Day 2 - Into the Woods

Currently building/setting up a new uberhood made out of custom populated neighborhoods that I like to play, because I can never decide and stick to one thing. It's mostly desert setting so I'll probably make "empty" subhoods containing only the Sims out of the non-desert ones, so I can just add the Sims and move them in somewhere else. Main hood is gonna be Strangetown, but because I'm a completionist I've downloaded the Overkill-Strangetown SC4 Terrain by @chrisnewbie and plan to put all the Strangetown Sims from all the games in there, possibly add La Fiesta Tech and maybe even the TS2 Stories Sims (probably not though. Or maybe only Pet Stories).

So my current set-up looks like this:

- Main: Strangetown (uber version, no or few townies)

- Downtown: Emerald Heights

- University: Cactus Canyon, Quadington, LFT (Playable Sims + Secret Society only)

- Vacation: Winter Wonderland (mountain), possibly Felicity Island (tropical), ??? (far east). Maybe turn Nekojima into vacation hood? Hmm.

- Subhood 1: Sedona Deluxe + Copperhead City (Sims only) + maybe Pitstop Valley

-Subhood 2: Jeans Shaker Oasis

- Subhood 3: Service Area

- Subhood 4: Saguaro Desert + Douglasville + maybe Blackrock (no or few townies)

- Subhood 5: Softpines (on a dirt terrain) + Oak Hill + Oaken Valley

- Subhood 6: Arkhelios + Winterose (Sims only) + Nekojima (if not Vacation Hood)

I also got the Sims of Polgannon, Nekojima (not sure what to do with them yet) ... I've removed the bulk of dead ancestors from all the hoods to strip them down a little [edited to add I've also removed excess NPCs from all the hoods so far, in particular those stupid useless drivers] but still feel like this *might* be slightly overkill. Lol.

"Their parents will be back any minute now," Cemile said, sounding confident. Kerstin was less confident.

"I'm really proud of him," Cemile said. "He's come such a long way since we lived at home."

"Right," Kerstin said. "Winterose."

Cemile scoffed. "Winterose? That's what he told you?"

"Well-"

"We grew up in the place with a thousand names," Cemile said, smirking. "Does 'Shadowvale' ring a bell? Or 'Jubilant Accosts'?"

mmm okays, I should do an update, yes? I've switched my hair palette around again, reduced the natural families to three (a mixture of my most used colors + some new ones that feel like good replacements for what I removed). idk man, I saw Clouds and I really liked it, but I didn't feel like switching aesthetics around (like I have one beyond "Shove whatever I like in there and brute-force it to work together"?)

Also been working on a skinblend that I've had sitting around for... two-three years now? Faces are an Io/AlfredAskew blend but the bodies are from IdolFlex with marvine feet (i did good work on the muscles for females. i want muscular women dang it).

aaaaaaand playing Winterose. It's um. A trip, certainly. I'm three households away from the end of round 1 (i took pictures! i will post gameplay i swear!) and now I'm regretting it because I was supposed to redo my skin genetics and I have to choose between redoing a massive amount of skins or restarting the hood. Forsight!

Some further thoughts on @winterose-sims by @nappe-plays-the-sims ...

Vera Lövin has been in love with Zayn Abdullah all her life, and the other romances were meant to distract her from him. In my game, she randomly got delivered a genie lamp after having her Doe baby, so she brought Zayn back ... but he bolted right out of town, undercover, after impregnating her as a thank you. As if running from someone... He now lives in a suburb, lets his hair grow out and tries his luck as a musician.

I've been thinking about Ville's motives a lot. Maybe he's just an incel pervert (as the shape of his house would suggest, lol). Maybe he hates cheaters? Or people who are getting some in general? He (presumably) killed Nanami, who cheated on Min Su and left him at the altar. He hated Zayn after he had his thing with Vera, although that could have been for cheating on Lian in particular. Jane Doe *hates his guts*. Did he kill Yetunde because she refused him, thinking she was Yewande? Jane was in love with Yetunde, anyway ... Maybe killing her "awakened his appetites", so to speak. But then, why would anyone of the BFFs have wanted Yetunde gone? Was it because she was an obstacle to Inga and Yewande's relationship? (So was Tomoko though...) Is Yewande hiding from Ville, who thinks she's dead - and did she orchestrate Yetunde being killed by him so she could hide away? Is that why Jane wrote her that book?

I'm still very, very confused about Yonah Salomon. Tomoko was married to him, even took his name. He believes to be Yetunde's father, but not Yewande's, although they are (presumably) twins ... Pelle believes to have fathered both of them, and so do the girls. Did Tomoko keep Yewande a secret from Yonah? Did she give her to Pelle to hide her away, telling Yonah she had only had one daughter? Were the two of them only reunited after Yonah's death, and constantly fought about who got to go outside as "the one daughter" every day, with most of their friends not knowing there were actually two of them?

Then again, I'm thinking Sonya is the key somehow. Her bio says something about someone new tormenting her, which could be Tanya ... or someone else. She had recurring flings with Mikel Dell Levi and Nanami (the latter maybe only because she wanted to steal Min Su's girlfriend ^^), and both of them were presumably killed by Ville. However, I still kind of think her bio is about Tanya ... who maybe got inspired by the whole Yetunde-Yewande-thing and now tries to do the same to her lol. She already woohoo'd with Sky, despite him not having any feelings towards her, presumably pretending to be Sonya.

Custom Hoods?

I feel like having a nose around/play in a custom hood, are there any people have enjoyed recently and can recommend? I downloaded millions but a bit overwhelmed by choice haha! Can be all EP's required, but no cc and inhabited only please 😍

In my spare time I have been playing Winterose by @nappe-plays-the-sims. I explored the neighborhood briefly back when they first released it, but didn’t start seriously playing it until the end of November or beginning of December 2021. I am almost done playing the first rotation (I played the households in alphabetical order and I have 2 days left in the Wolff household) and although I know I will never find all the secrets in this hood, I adore it immensely.

Some takeaways (which will not be spoiler free, so if you want to explore the neighborhood on your own, I would stop reading now):

-My favorite household is probably the Greys. I love the fact that they are secretly aliens that were kidnapped/abducted and then deposited in Winterose (well, they appear to have crash-landed). I can totally imagine they attempted to decorate their house to appear as human as possible but failed miserably. Aileen’s twins were a huge surprise, and I sadly had to sell some of the decor around their bowling alley to fund the furniture for the twins until Aileen can get a job.

-Honorable mentions to the Bogomolovs, the Lovins, the Wangs and the Wolffs.

-I have big plans for the Bogomolovs and Ai Wang.

-Families like the Lovins are my favorite to play because I love the challenge of bringing a struggling family to glory. I successfully managed to get them on the right track in the first round (Vera is receiving money on welfare [a mod], Cash learned some skills and aged up well, all kids learned how to do their homework, Vera is on course to fall in love with the repairman, who has now visited their house many times, and yes, I managed to afford the family a toilet), but damn was it hard when I realized Vera was sick AND pregnant. And when her precious baby girl was born, I was very shocked indeed to learn who the father is/was.

-Basir Ali is my son and I would die for him.

-While editing the graveyard I noticed the letters “n o u j” spelled out in terrain paint around some of the graves and I really wanna know what it means.

I might post screenshots from my play through on here but I’m not sure yet.

A few days ago I saw @nappe-plays-the-sims​ repost Winterose, and as soon as I saw words “town” and “secrets” together, I hit that download button.

I hope that playthrough will help me to get back into simming and simblring.
