Umm shyly kissing the winter spirit while he sleeps? 👉🏻👈🏻😶 or seems to be sleeping....
oh that's cute!
---
In the dark, he is still. Still and quiet and, it cannot be denied, extraordinarily beautiful.
When the sun has vanished below the horizon and the skies are darkened, all deep blue-and-black with dotted stars, that is when he shimmers. Like fresh snow under moonlight, like finely embroidered sequins on a dancer's costume glittering from the gas-lights.
Like this, in the dark, in his sleep, you can almost forget who he is--what he is.
You can forget the way he sometimes doesn't remember how long it's been since he took you, or where he took you from in the first place. "Does it matter, my beauty?" He asks, on those days, and you must admit you can never find a way to argue against it.
And so, tonight, as you watch him rest, you can't help but wonder. Would his kisses feel different, when he sleeps? When he's so quiet, so beautiful?
That's why you lean forward, careful to keep quiet, but for the rustling of your furs--you're so close that you can see the frost forming on his eyelashes as you press your lips against his.
And if there is a brief moment before he wakes when you taste him at his most tranquil, when the deep beauty of winter--snow coating the mountains, the soft snow prints of an infant doe trailing behind its mother, snowflake patterns frosted on the kitchen window--shines through, it is all too brief. A snowflake on your tongue.
Because when he wakes and captures your lips in a painful, burning kiss, you know he won't be falling asleep again tonight. Not until he's had his fill and winter, cold and greedy he can be, likes to overstay its welcome.

Prompt #3
Geralt is the spirit of winter. He brings death and sickness wherever he goes. He understands when the people in towns shun him and cower in fear rather than greeting such a powerful being. He's just kind of... Grown used to the hatred. The fear. Humans don't like him. He is nothing but death. A killer. It's near the end of his time, this year. The seasons will change and he can stop tormenting the poor humans. He doesn't like his job, but it's the only job he can do. The world needs winter. Just like how the world needs spring. But spring just... Isn't coming. Where is the spring spirit? Thus the spirit of winter goes on a journey atop his trusted mare to find the lost spirit of spring, only to come across him captured by idiotic humans and on the edge of life. Winter defeats the villains and brings the spirit of spring back to his own home to watch over him as he heals. When the spirit of spring, Jaskier, comes to, Geralt finds it hard to dislike him. No wonder the humans love spring so much. It's bringer sings nearly all words and soothes with every move he makes. Geralt is sure the spirit of spring could never even grow to like him, let alone love him. This becomes a problem, because Geralt is growing head over heels with Spring's Spirit as he hosts his convalescence.
♡!Optional addons!♡ • Jaskier has always looked up to the spirit of winter, and has just been afraid to introduce himself (perhaps even already having made songs about him)
• Maybe instead of just normal humans, perhaps Jaskier was kidnapped by mages
• Perhaps we could also meet the spirits of autumn and summer. Eskel and Lambert? Yen and Ciri? Triss?
• Geralt is afraid to touch Jaskier in fear of making his flowers and goodness and warmth die (Jaskier wants nothing more than for Geralt to touch him)

His Cold Icy Heart

Since we're now in winter season, I want to start writing the Frozen AU which means the Tangled AU will be put on hold for now. I've seen some other people do this AU so I changed mine up to be more unique and original where this has its own story that still follows the basic premise of the movie.

According to the folktale, the Giubiana was an old witch, thin, with very long legs and red stockings. She lived in the woods and because of her long legs, she never set foot on the ground, but moved from tree to tree.  On the last Thursday of January, she used to go in search of some children to eat. One mother, to protect her child, decided to set a trap for her. She prepared a large pot full of yellow (saffron) risotto with luganega (sausage) and put it on the windowsill. The Giubiana attracted by the smell, came out of the woods, and began to eat all the contents of the huge pot. The risotto was so good that the ravenous Giubiana did not notice the time passing. She did not notice that the sun, which kills witches, was now about to rise. By the time the Giubiana finished all the risotto, the first ray of sunshine had come out: the Giubiana was thus pulverized by the sunlight, and from that day all the children were saved. To remember that event at the end of January, risotto with luganega is prepared and the puppet in the guise of the old witch is burned.
The name "Giubiana" seems related to the Roman god Jupiter, but other possible reference figures are Juno, Janus, and Diana.
In the medieval centuries the popular narrative created a variety of legends and numerous folk tales, in which Giubiana thus became a female figure alluding to the Great Mother, sometimes an old woman, sometimes a witch, a variant of the Befana, to be symbolically driven away along with the rigors of winter. The most distinguishing element of the festival is the great bonfire, which even today is perceived by all as a symbol of renewal and a new year's restart.

nibbling on winter spirit's nose like the "jack frost's nipping on your nose" line or whatever 🥺 reverse uno
y'all really want to be up in his face!!
--
"My sweet," he croons, taking a step closer, glass-toed shoes crunching on snow that leaves no prints underneath.
"My beauty," he continues, as you take another step backwards; not quite so ethereal, your fur-lined boots depress in the snow with every movement.
"My trinket, my lovely, my treasure--" the words sigh out of his mouth with his frosty breath, until finally you are out of steps and backed up against a tree. The bark scratches against your warm coat, snagging against the fabric.
"Yes?" You ask, feigning innocent. Hard to do, though, with nowhere to run. With his body so close to yours, his face closer, close enough to touch or kiss or--
The thought comes so quickly, so stupid, a rush of immaturity in the frigid air that does so much to sap your strength.
You lean forward and nip at his nose with your teeth, catching the cold-tinged edge of it before you pull away.
There is nothing, at first. No reaction. Only the unnatural stillness of his expression. And then, he jerks away, quirking his lips down in a frown. The winter itself seems to shift with that quirk, growing heavier, the pretty blues turning grey and dour.
You have only a few moments to avoid anger, so you offer up a shaky smile.
"Jack Frost... nipping at your nose?"
His frown twitches.
And then--he laughs, throwing his head back, a delicate thing; the sound of icicles chiming in the wind.
"Oh, sweet! How I was not impossibly bored without you, I'll never know!" He smiles, a wicked, lovely thing. "Do live a long time, if you please, for I don't know what I would do without you."

📚December 2024 Book Review📚
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Happy New Year everyone! And to end it up with only one day of delay here's the last reviews for 2024!
Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood
It was interesting but not my favorite Atwood so far. Grace's point of view was sometimes hard to follow, but the change of writing style to mark the difference of class and education between her and the doctor was a meaningful choice. I liked the mystery, the contradicting versions of what happened and the confusion of the poor doctor trying to unravel all this.
I am not opposed to open endings so the lack of answers at the end was not a problem to me but I understand that it can bother others. When you write about real events it's delicate to whether someone is or isn't guilty, better to let the readers judge by themselves.
Le Père Porcher (Chroniques du Disque-Monde #20) by Terry Pratchett
I wanted to reread it for Christmas season and, for a twist, to read the french translation by Patrice Couton. I don't credit translator enough but I always heard the highest praise for his work on the Discworld Novels. They are well deserved, the translation is amazing! Incredible work on the names, hilarious translations of the puns, it works so well! The story itself is just as good as I remembered, Death is really an amazing character.
Soie by Alessandro Baricco
I don't see the appeal. There is some nice writing, the repetitive aspects give it a nice fairy tale vibe but that's it. It barely mention the journey to Japan, barely mention silk. Which is the damn title. Instead you have a guy that travels across Europe and Asia to cheat on his wife. This wasn't was I hoped for from the title and blurb, I am just disappointed.
A Day of Fallen Night (Root of Chaos #0) by Samantha Shannon
I loved The Priory of the Orange Tree when I read it three years ago so I was excited to read the prequel. If you are like me and picked if long after reading book 1, I strongly recommend catching up on the lore before reading and if you haven't read book 1 yet DO NOT start with A Day of Fallen Night: this might be a prequel but it is not an introduction.
That said I loved it, convoluted and lore heavy as it is: it brings back all the places I loved in book 1 with even more details put on the world building and tradition. The multiple point of views are well used and they come together in really satisfying ways. Even if the threat is more or less the same as in The Priory of the Orange Tree the way they figure a solution and the fight was so good!
Retour à St Mary (Cosy Christmas Mystery #1) by Carine Pitocchi
Plain bad, and that's not the just me saying it, that's 100% of my local book club. Don't hope for a whodunit, the mystery barely qualifies as a police novel, the investigation is confusing and the culprit, obvious. This is also half of a Christmas cheesy hallmark romance. The bad half that is, because at the end Unsufferable Female Lead takes a train and just leaves behind Secretly In Love Childhood Best Friend Who Happens To Be An Anglican Priest For Some Reason Male Love Interest. It just sucks. Don't bother.
The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson
I really liked it, the main character spiralling down pulled me down two and at several moments I was genuinely spooked. I read it a little too quickly to fully appreciate it tho I think, I will need to reread it again!
Prince Caspian (The Chronicles of Niania #02) by C S Lewis
I don't really have much too say. Just like the first book I had watched the movie a hundred times before and I was just too old for it. It is a cute story tho, I love the talking animals, especially Reepicheep.
Winter Spirits short story collection
Overall a nice read: this is an anthology featuring 12 different authors which means 12 different spin on the spooky christmas ghost story. There's only one I actively didn't like and four where I went to check what else the author had done because I needed to study how their brain worked. I originally picked the book because it features a story by Stuart Turton, who wrote The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle. His story is good but I especially loved those by Laura Shepherd-Robinson, Andrew Michael Hurley, and Natashe Pulley.
The Agatha Christie Book Club #1 by C A Larmer
This was fun but not as good as reading an Agatha Christie novel. The investigation is a little convoluted, with clues that aren't really clear to the reader. And honestly if I were the characters being interviewed by the book club member twenty seven times in one week I too would have been annoyed and slammed the door. It was a bit frustrating that the pay off required to have biographical knowledge of Christie's life. It was all explained in the end but you couldn't really follow along. The book is good but my expectations were miscalculated, I'll adjust when reading the rest of the series.
The Stardust Grail by Yume Kitasei
This wouldn't be enough to call it Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade In Space but this is very much what it is. And more. It has some really cool element of world building and alien species with complex history and dynamics. The characters were very good too, the relationship between Uncle and Maia I was especially fond of, medic is touching too, I just took most of the book to warm up to Will. Emotional, action packed, full of twist and investigation and museum heist. Very warm recommendation.
Summer Sons by Lee Mandelo
Gut punches galore. It had been a long time since I read a horror novel that genuinely scared me and boy was I scared. I have next to zero knowledge of the US South but the description were so vivid I could feel the heat. Also a gold star for most fucked up gay relationship to Andrew and Eddy, this should be so hot but somehow it is, good luck to Sam unpacking this mess.
A Local Habitation (October Daye #2) by Seanan McGuire
This. Was. Wild. Never saw so many deaths and especially main characters narrowly avoiding death I was SO SURE I had figured it out and in the end I was barking at the wrong tree. What a ride. I am growing very fond of October Daye and I hope we get to see more of Quentin too because he's a good kid. I was promised by
