Clement, papalık merkezini 1308 yılında Avignon’a taşımıştır. Kendisi de iyi bir şarap içicisi olan papa sayesinde bölgede o dönemde şarap üretimine büyük önem verilmiş ve üretilen şaraplar “Vin du Pape yani “Papanın şarabı” olarak tanınmaya başlamıştır. V. Clement’den sonra gelen papa XXII. John, bölgede ünlü şatoyu yaptırdıktan sonra da Châteauneuf du Pape yani “papanın yeni şatosu” ismi kullanılmaya başlamış, söz konusu şato da bölge şaraplarının sembolü olmuştur. Papa VI. Clement ise 1348 yılında şehri papalık adına satın almıştır.Ağırlıklı olarak Grenache üzümlerinin kullanıldığı şaraplarda, toplam 13 farklı üzüm kullanılmaktadır. Bunlar Cinsault, Counoise, Mourvèdre, Muscardin, Syrah, Terret noir ve Vaccarèse üzümleridir. Beyazlar ise Grenache blanc, Bourboulenc, Clairette, Picardan, Roussanne, ve Picpoul üzümlerinden yapılır. Sulama yapmanın yasak olduğu bağların %72’si Grenache, %10.5’i Syrah, %7’si Mourvèdre, geri kalanı da diğer üzümlere aittir.Kırmızı şaraplarda olgunlaşmış Grenache noir, şaraba tatlı ve reçelimsi bir katkı yapar. Syrah renk ve baharatlılığı, Mourvèdre ise zerafet ve dokuyu oluşturur. Châteauneuf du Pape kırmızı şarapları, teroir’ı yansıtan topraksı tatları, tütün, av eti ve deri tonları ile dikkat çeker. Gençken sıkı ve tanenli olan şaraplar olgunlaştıkça baharatsı bukelerle zenginleşir. #stagsleapwinecellars #artemis has just about become my #House #CabernetSauvignon. #SouthCarolina runs killer specials on this one, and a few times a year, I can pick it up for $35 a bottle. This has everything you are looking for in a #Cab. It's dark and rich. There's beautiful spice and anise pouring out of the glass. The fruit is on point, without being too flamboyant. This one checks all the right boxes. It's easily overlooked in the sea of fine wine. You can spend a whole lot more and be disappointed. #Shafer is an amazing producer. If you love red wine, and see a Shafer label, you know you are in for a great pour. I was extremely happy to be able to share this #100point with someone else. I was able to snag a few back when it was current. This one is almost in peak drinking condition. The #Hillside #Vinyard produces some epic #CabernetSauvignon. If your local wine shop doesn't carry Shafer, it's always worth asking about. This one is a little pricey at roughly $300 a bottle but they almost never have a vintage scoring less than 95/100.
