MH Wilds offical website updated!
Rey Dau: confirmed thunder element flying wyvern apex of the Windward Plains
Tumblr media
Lala Barina: New paralysis status temnoceran of a new locale named the Scarlet Forest
Tumblr media
Lala Barina = Ba-Lala-Rina = Ballerina. Lala Barina spins like a ballerina. Capcom thinks they're so funny (they are)
anyway HOT DAMN WILDS LOOKS GOOD
also... the Scarlet Forest, on the offical website, has "abundant water." Have we found Lagiacrus's new home?
Anyway, expect returning monsters in the Scarlet Forest to be originally from swampy environs like the Flooded Forest. I'm expecting Congalala (armor revealed in DB trailer) to be here, as well as at least one of the mud/swamp swimmers (Ludroth, Jyuratodus, Almudron, Plesioth, etc). Doshaguma confirmed to also be present, highly likely Chatacabra as well. Soft deconfirming of Espinas because Barina took its rose motif.

After driving about 8-9 hours yesterday, man I had some thoughts.
Do you ever look at the names on the billboards and highway signs you pass by? The people of the small blink-and-you-miss towns that in the mind of a driver only seem to serve the purpose of breaking up the monotony of the road. Names that if you were to search them would most likely bring up no results except for an obituary and a grave marker. Who were they to those towns, who were they to their families and the people around them that wrote about them, what made them so beloved so as to rename the streets or have a sign made in their honor?
And as your tires eat away at the miles and the minutes do you ever gaze out at the roadside and wonder how it came to look that way? I can sit and know and tell myself that yes, Texas was once part of the seabed of the Western Interior Seaway, which split North America in two, and that is why we have so much limestone and why our elevation is so low. Why we have the Edwards Aquifer as we were molded into a bed of karst at the tail end of the Great Plains. But what specific current made it so that we were perfectly hilly as you reach the Edwards Plateau? And how goofy must we look as you go from the tall, straight pines and forests of the Eastern Woodlands to the yawning deserts several hours west, having to cross through every biome in between. What winds and rivers and floods and storms shaped my seabed home into the geographical crossroads that it now occupies?
Do you ever think too much on how that influenced the way people lived when they came to live in those places? In all of Texas’ rivers it brings the alluvial floodplains that would later feed crops, then commercial farms as the course of history took. The draws formed by rains and that were used to hunt bison that would also one day break hooves and ankles in the age of the cattle trails. Who knew mesquite had so many uses? And though so many of them lay still and dormant half the time, the fact that we have enough wind for people to sport the great twisting turbines in an effort to try and be green.
I know I’ve never gotten to really travel outside the United States but honestly I wonder how I could answer these same questions if I did. What would I find if I looked long and far? And even driving through my home country, they still stand. What of the ontogeny of the Appalachians? The windward caress of the Rockies that made the Pacific Northwest? The evidential meteor that may have influenced the Chesapeake?

Counting down the hours until the new trailer. I want to see:
1. A release date
2. One new monster and one returning monster (please don’t show everything capcom)
3. A different local than Windward Plains. Just the Time of Abundance, keep the other times a surprise
What does everyone else want?

Monster Hunter Wilds ‘1st Trailer,’ screenshots
From Gematsu
Tumblr media
Capcom has released the first official trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds, which introduces the game’s untamed landscape teeming with new monsters, as well as first glimpses of the story, characters, system, and more.
Get the latest details below.
In Monster Hunter Wilds, players join the ranks of a special Research Commission team investigating the Forbidden Lands. Fully voiced for the first time in the Monster Hunter series, the hunter ventures into the unknown with their companions, including Guild-appointed handler Alma, their Palico partner, and a mysterious child. Monster Hunter Wilds features multi-dimensional biomes that can transform in unexpected ways. The first locale to be unveiled is the Windward Plains, a vast region encompassing harsh deserts, twisted rock formations, and swaying grasslands abound with life. These immersive ecosystems are populated with wildlife acclimated to their surroundings, including smaller monsters like Dalthydon, an herbivorous wyvern that migrates seasonally, and Ceratonoth, who rely on males to shield the herd from raging storms with well-developed dorsal horns that serve as lightning rods. Of course, large monsters also roam the Windward Plains, including Doshaguma. While massive and territorial, these fanged beasts are curiously sometimes sighted stalking the plains in aggressive packs. Meanwhile, the formidable amphibian Chatacabra uses its surroundings and adhesive saliva to become an even stronger adversary by armoring its body with natural materials like ore. To help hunters meet the challenges that await in Monster Hunter Wilds, the beloved gameplay of the series has evolved with an arsenal of new features. Players will experience a seamless flow from story sequences to gameplay without interruption. To traverse this world’s sprawling environments, the game introduces Seikrets, a new type of mount. These nimble creatures can guide their riders to destinations and allow hunters to perform actions on the go, such as sharpening weapons, gathering materials, and wielding the slinger. Hunters can also swap to a secondary weapon with their Seikret, empowering hunting parties to adapt to the changing conditions out in the field without returning to base. All 14 of the series’ iconic weapon types return in Monster Hunter Wilds and have now evolved to include new actions. Additionally, the game introduces brand-new systems, such as Focus Mode, giving hunters more precise control over aiming, guarding, and attacking monsters’ weak points. The new Hook Slinger also offers hunters additional abilities, including contextual actions and the power to collect items from a distance – even when mounted atop their Seikret. Monster Hunter Wilds players who link their Monster Hunter: World save data can receive special bonus items. This includes the Felyne Leather Set (Palico Armor) and Felyne Acorn Spade (Palico Weapon) for linking Monster Hunter: World base game save data, and Felyne Duffel Set (Palico Armor) and Felyne Trekker Peckaxe (Palico Weapon) for linking save data from the title’s massive expansion Monster Hunter World: Iceborne.
Monster Hunter Wilds is due out for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam in 2025.

So we got another Monster Hunter Wilds trailer yesterday and, contrary to what I expected, it wasn't just an extended version of last week's trailer and instead featured mostly new stuff, although I'd say it was more of a "Trailer 1, Part 2" than a proper "Trailer 2" since it still only focused on (what I assume) is the opening segment of the game.
The most notable new thing was the new Leviathan: Balahara. I'm not sure what to think of this guy, to be honest. It's just... kinda creepy. Which isn't inherently a bad thing, but Doshaguma is also an ugly bastard, and Chatacabra isn't much better. I don't dislike these designs by themselves, but I don't love any of them (yet) and as a group they don't exactly have the "vibes" that I tend to like about MH monster designs. It doesn't help that the only returning monster we've seen so far is Rathalos. The mystery thunder monster they teased seems cool but I can't really form an opinion yet. I think I just need to see one new monster that appeals more to my tastes and that will alleviate my worries about the monster design direction in this game. Thank Gog we have Seikrets though, I love their design and that gives me hope that we'll see more cool creatures.
Other than that? More vague story and "cinematic" stuff. I can't say that's what I want out of MH, but I'll reserve judgement for the time being. I just hope we can change our hunter and Palico's voices. Please, Capcom. Also please let me have a real beard, Rise's facial hair options were pathetic (the ones in World were alright but I still want more).
Beyond the trailer stuff, having crossplay is incredible news! It's what I expected based on other recent Capcom games, but it's great to finally have confirmation. I love that I'll be able to play with anyone who has the game regardless of platform. Now I'll keep hoping that we get a Switch 2 version so I don't have to buy a PS5. xD
We'll get our next trailer in August, in Gamescom, where they'll also have a playable show floor demo. I'm hyped to finally see some proper gameplay and see how the new mechanics work. Hopefully we get to see a new area too, I'm getting kinda tired of the Windward Plains after three trailers there. And of course, some cool new monsters! Our flagship monster, maybe? In any case, while I have a few concerns, I'm still really hyped for Wilds!
I might go back to Sunbreak in the meantime and resume the Anomaly grind...

Not a ton of new new info from that monhun live, but I must say that I think having migratory endemic life is a fantastic detail. "Baby pukei-pukei" (not what it is) living primarily in the Scarlet Forest and migrating to the Windward Plains during the Plenty to nest is such a fantastic bit of detail, and if that's the kind of thought and effort they're putting into the world of Wilds, I'm so excited to see the end result

They mostly live in the Scarlet Forest, but migrate to the Windward Plains during the Plenty, to breed. They mate and share nesting and feeding duties to raise their babies. In the field, you can see them catching grasshoppers and feeding in their nests.
