#25: Izana Kurokawa

I decided to do something special and, since he looks kind of ethereal here, I applied white ink fornthe line work in the hair and the earrings. This was done with a dip pen + comic tip, and Windsor&Newton white ink.

I had some serious trouble with this, since I still have little experience with darker skin tones and I couldn't find a resource in my folder that matched him, and the trial and error process proved frustrating since the tests I liked at a small scale came out sickly and yellowish when applied to a bigger surface... I had to trace the sketch and start over three times before I was satisfied. The blending is a bit sloppy, maybe it always is but it just doesn't show with the lighter shades... Still, I am satisfied with the overall result.

I mentioned offhandedly that I need a new feather for my dip pen, and someone in my larp group went SAY NO MORE and handed me a giant macaw feather?? I would've been fine with pheasant. Pigeon would've done the job too if I'm honest.

Pencil for scale. And then I jokingly complained that I don't have fancy ink to match (a lie), so someone brought me a jug with a litre of home-cooked black ink.

I'm not kidding it's literally just a jug of ink.

hello i haven’t posted on here in fucking forever lol

my drawing & comp class this semester was a doozy. i did the top drawing first, and at 40 hours it is the longest i have ever worked on a single piece by far. in the second half of the semester, i was supposed to deconstruct the same subject, which led to drawings 2 & 3. they’re supposed to just be portfolio pieces, but this is the first time i’ve been able to easily think of a name for a piece, so i’m gonna call them matryoshka i and ii anyway.

i never want to draw another cow ever again.
