Auto Glass Replacement or Repairs: Which is More Practical?
When dealing with damage to your vehicle’s auto glass, you face a crucial decision: should you opt for a replacement or a repair? Both options have their benefits, but understanding which is more practical depends on several factors, including the extent of the damage, cost, and safety concerns. Here’s a detailed look at each option to help you make an informed choice.
When to Choose Auto Glass Repair?
Minor Damage:
Auto glass repair is generally more practical when dealing with minor damage such as small chips or cracks. These issues can often be repaired effectively, restoring the glass’s integrity without the need for a full replacement. Repairs are typically recommended if the damage is less than a certain size (usually around 6 inches for cracks and 1 inch for chips) and located away from the driver’s line of sight.
Cost-Effectiveness:
Repairing a small chip or crack is usually less expensive than replacing the entire windshield. Most repair services are affordable and can be completed quickly, often in under an hour. Additionally, many insurance policies cover the cost of repairs with little or no deductible, making it a cost-effective option.
Quick Solution:
If you need a swift solution, auto glass repairs are often the better choice. Repairs can be done on-site or at a service center, and they require minimal downtime. This is particularly useful if you rely on your vehicle daily and cannot afford to have it out of commission for an extended period.
When to Opt for Auto Glass Replacement?
Extensive Damage:
If the damage to your auto glass is extensive—such as a large crack spreading across the windshield or significant shattering—a replacement is usually necessary. Repairs may not provide sufficient safety or durability in these cases, and replacing the glass ensures your vehicle meets safety standards.
Safety Concerns:
The windshield plays a critical role in vehicle safety, contributing to the structural integrity of your car and providing support during a collision. A damaged windshield that cannot be adequately repaired may compromise safety. In such cases, replacing the glass is the safer option to ensure full protection.
Insurance Considerations:
While insurance often covers repairs with little to no cost, replacement can sometimes be covered as well, depending on your policy. It’s important to check with your insurance provider to understand your coverage options and any potential out-of-pocket expenses.
Choosing between auto glass repair and replacement depends largely on the extent of the damage and your specific needs. For minor damage, repairs are generally more practical due to their cost-effectiveness and quick turnaround. However, for extensive damage or safety concerns, the best auto glass replacement in Phoenix is the more appropriate choice. Always consult with a professional to assess the damage and determine the best course of action for your vehicle.

Factors Affecting Windscreen Replacement Cost in Melbourne: What to Expect
A damaged or cracked windscreen not only compromises the safety of your vehicle but also poses a potential hazard to you and other road users. When it comes to the windscreen replacement cost in Melbourne, it's essential to understand the factors that can influence it. In this blog, we will explore these factors and provide you with insights into what to expect when considering windscreen replacement in Melbourne.
Type and Quality of the Windscreen:
The type and quality of the windshield replacement in Melbourne you choose can significantly impact the replacement cost. There are different types of windscreen glass available, ranging from original equipment manufacturer (OEM) glass to aftermarket options. OEM glass tends to be more expensive due to its high quality and precise fit, while aftermarket glass may offer a more budget-friendly alternative.
Vehicle Make and Model:
The make and model of your vehicle play a role in determining the windscreen replacement cost. Some vehicles may have unique windscreen designs or features that require specialized glass, which can be more expensive to procure and install. Additionally, luxury or high-end vehicles may have pricier windscreen options compared to standard models.
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS):
Modern vehicles often come equipped with ADAS technologies, such as lane departure warning systems or forward collision warning systems, which rely on sensors and cameras installed on the windscreen. If your vehicle has ADAS, replacing the windscreen may require recalibration or reinstallation of these systems, adding to the overall cost.
Additional Features and Accessories:
Certain vehicles may have additional features integrated into the windscreen, such as rain sensors, defrosting capabilities, or acoustic insulation. If your windscreen replacement requires transferring these features from the old glass to the new one, it may increase the cost of the replacement.
Accessibility and Labor Costs:
The location of the windscreen replacement service and the accessibility of your vehicle can affect labour costs. If your vehicle is difficult to access or requires additional steps for the replacement process, such as removing trim or mouldings, it may increase the overall cost.
By understanding these factors, you can make informed decisions and find a reputable service provider that offers competitive pricing without compromising on quality and safety.

So I have vision insurance again which means I was able to go to the optometrist and get glasses through insurance for the first time in 11 years (instead of paying out of pocket and getting glasses from zenni) and here are my notes:
It's *NOT GREAT* that Luxotica is mentioned by name on the insurance card printout
I know everything got more expensive in the last ten years, but frames also got a lot more expensive and for some reason there was a huge gap in prices - my insurance covered $130 for frames and the office had a bunch of frames for $70 and a bunch of frames for $150 but basically no frames between those two price points.
When you say "I can't afford to go over the allowance" on XYZ thing they are not even *considering* the cost of progressive bifocals. So I was like "no coating, cheap frames, no extras" and then they were like "okay so the progressive bifocal is going to be over a hundred dollars more" and I was like "how much is the bifocal with a line" and they were like "oh that's only $15 but we don't consider that appropriate for your age, we recommend this other kind of lens" and it doesn't matter what you consider age appropriate for me, I can't afford that so we're not doing that.
The seventy dollar frames are all kind of trash. Super thin, super bendy, and not in a good "flexible fit" way but more in a "if you fall asleep in these you will wake up with broken glasses" way.
They wrote down my reading prescription wrong? For the last ten years I've been slowly creeping up from +.25 to my current +2.50; they told me it had increased but the printout said +.75 so either my prescription has been wrong for a while or they missed the 2 at the front of that number and my glasses are going to show up with a low magnification. (I noticed after I'd left the office but before the glasses arrived).
Given all of that, with insurance: $25 for a pair of glasses, which included the office copay.
So then of course I went to zenni and ordered glasses anyway because I've been wearing the same frame design for seven years and want another pair that look exactly like that.
Progressive bifocals WERE the most expensive part of the order, and because my prescription is stronger they are getting progressively more expensive - initially the upgrade to bifocal cost something like $30 for a lower magnification, now they're $85 for the stronger prescription.
And that's it, that's the expensive part. Fifteen dollar frames, five dollar anti-reflective coating, total for bifocals was around a hundred dollars; I got a pair of single-vision sunglasses for under $20.
Part of the reason I decided to spend more at zenni than at my optometrist's office was because I was able to get good, sturdy frames that I know fit my face and will survive mosh pits and me falling asleep on them without cracking. In order to get the same thing at the optometrist's office I would have had to pay thirty dollars more for lenses as well as forty more for frames so I would have walked out of there paying more for a pair of glasses with frames that I wasn't super excited about (there was a pair that was *okay* but not great that were similar in construction to my current frames but more bulky and square) than I did for glasses that I know I like and a pair of sunglasses.
I did end up paying less out of pocket for the visit than I would have without the insurance, and $15 for a pair of back-up glasses isn't bad. But it was all-in-all a frustrating experience.
However: I've been wearing the same pair of glasses for three years and the anti-reflective coating is worn away in some places and they're so scratched that they're impossible to actually clean in some places and large bastard looked through them last week and was like "OH! No wonder you can't tell when you need to clean your windshield! You don't get to drive at night until those are replaced" so no matter what glasses I'm wearing next week they're going to be an improvement.

The car was originally powered by a 365 cubic inch Cadillac engine, later replaced by a 427 cubic inch high-performance Ford engine, and had a 125-inch wheelbase, with a tubular aluminum frame and a hand-fashioned soft aluminum body. The car has Batmanesque set of rear fins dominating the bodyline and ruby red hubcaps on whitewall tires.
The car was designed by Andrew Di Dia, a clothing designer, who Bobby Darin had met while on tour in Detroit in 1957. Darin telling Di Dia at the time that he would purchase the car if he ever "hit it big".
For seven years, from 1953 to 1960 the DiDia 150 was hand-built by four workers, at a cost of $93,647.29 but sold to Darin in 1961 at a cost of over $150,000 (1.5 million today). At the time the car was listed as most expensive "custom-made" car in the world by the Guinness Book of Records. The body was hand-formed by Ron Clark and constructed by Bob Kaiser from Clark Kaiser Customs.
Di Dia toured the car around the country, when Darin wasn't using it for public appearances. After publicity and film use, Darin donated his "Dream Car" to the National Museum of Transportation in 1970 where it remains. It was restored by Mike Manns of Manns Auto Body in Festus, Missouri before going on display.
The gasoline-fueled V8 engine (originally 365 cid, later upgraded to 427 cid) is located at the front. It is rear-wheel drive. The body and chassis are hand-formed from 064 aluminum with a unitized alloy tube frame.
It has a glass cockpit in back, a squared steering wheel resembling a superellipse and thermostatically controlled air conditioning system. The interior is rust colored in contrast to the ruby paintwork. The design included the first backseat-mounted radio loudspeakers and hidden windshield wipers, which start themselves when it rains. Other features include retractable headlamps, rear turn signals which swivel as the car turns, 'floating' bumpers and a trunk that was hinged from the driver's side. Each of the four bucket seats have their own thermostatically controlled air conditioning, individual cigarette lighters and ashtrays, as well as a radio loudspeaker.

@kodedgeekthings eyo you mentioned wanting a dpxdc prompt for Howard, Batman’s mechanic!
Harold misses fixing toys for kids and in his off hours has taken up the habit of answering questions on forums about machining, electrical, engineering, mechanics, and mechanical design that are often frequented by students.
One day, he comes across a request by a college student who is trying to assemble his own car out of scrap he bought from a local wrecking yard.
Ghostly_Boy states that he has previous experience in machining and can make replacements for broken or too-damaged parts if need be, but he doesn’t know where to start and what specific requirements he needs to reach to ensure it’s street legal.
Harold willing to help, he answers a few of Ghostly Boy’s clarifying questions:
- Great questions!
It’s good to note that if you’re not careful, fixing or making your own car from parts can be a moneysink and can cost you more than a brand new vehicle. - That being said, your first major step to ensuring you can drive the car is to get the title of the body/frame of the car you plan to build. It’ll have the VIN on a plate welded to the frame usually near the lower edge of the windshield wipers on the drivers side. It’s how the DMV identifies vehicles for licensing.
- Generally, you’ll at first get a “wreck out” title that shows the vehicle is listed as a total loss, but if you can assemble the parts for the car with that frame, the DMV can check if it’s properly running and road worthy & license for you to use it on public roads if you’ve done the proper paperwork.
- Once that is done, it’s largely a case of getting the right parts and assembling them. Depending on how much you have to repair, you could be taking on a task that could give a challenge to even a seasoned mechanic. There may be additional paperwork depending on what exactly you need to repair, like the breaks, lights, steering, etc.
- If you want to build the car entirely from scratch, chassis and all, that’s an entirely different story with a much more complicated list of requirements to make it street legal, so getting a frame from a junkyard is a great first step!
- Make sure to keep all bills of sale, junkyard receipts, invoices and manufacturers’ certificates on any major parts you used in building the vehicle to prove its road worthy to the DMV when it’s complete!
Harold doesn’t always answer first but over time he’s found the adventures of this kid amusing and keeps up with it.
Ghostly_Boy keeps the forum updated with his progress:
The kid spontaneously deciding to scrap the wiring system and make his own in a span of 3 days, leaving experienced mechanics on the forum practically screaming at the kid for his updates showing him using random wires he salvaged and pigtailing them together to get the length of wire he needed.
Mixing not only multiple types of wires but ones that didn’t have the protection needed for auto use. DIY-ing his own relay and fuses he didn’t have and connecting the wrong grounds and switches. And planning on leaving the wires unwrapped and loose.
Leaving Ghost to promptly redo the wiring, correctly this time, within 78 hours.
Making a repair of a massive rusted hole on the passenger side by the bumper and the front tire via cutting 1/2in past the rust, grinding it pretty and clean, tac & seam welding the vintage aluminum housing material of a toaster to cover the hole to the response of Harold and many others in the forum just going “… I guess that would work?”
Harold and many others telling the kid that this “ectoplasm” material wasn’t cleared through the EPA’s Clear Air Act and could be illegal to drive with it as it’s fuel source unless he got the emissions tested & the center of gravity of the car adjusted to have the center of gravity a gas car has, it wouldn’t pass Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Nor would the previously untested on material make it easy or quick to get an Emissions testing certificate. Best to just stick with gas.
Removing what he thought was a “skid plate” that turned out to be another rusted out section on the frame on the bottom of his car and repairing it with steel he salvaged from an old medical table he had laying around. (To the multiple slightly confused commenters asking how Ghost had a spare medical table, he replied, “eh, my folks visit every so often and they’ve been giving me things they’re clearing out of the house so they can move closer to my older sister. I just so happened to get the ye olde medical table. They’re an odd couple of folks but that’s why I love them.”)
People just crying at the kid to go to rockauto.com and just buy the damn parts he needs for his car. (A good resource btw)
The kid kept cutting corners to save cash but through the badgering of Harold and many others that he actually would have to spend money to make this car be safe to drive in, he finally got it completed.
Ghost’s post of him leaving DMV waving the updated title to the car in its envelope in the air, titled, “THE DMV FINALLY SAID IT WASN’T A FIRE HAZARD! ONLY TOOK 2 YEARS! THANKS EVERYONE!” Got the most amount of responses he’d ever had with congratulations from lurkers and previous commenters.
Over the course of those two years, Danny learned how to draw his own wiring diagrams, properly solder and weld, and learning to actually plan out his projects so he got it right at least the fifth time instead of the 20th. Not bad for a kid that went straight from graduating high school with a 1.5GPA to construction jobs.
But after finally getting the car approved, Ghostly_Boy returns to the forum with a new problem. Lamenting that his parents keep coming over and “modifying” his car to no longer make it street legal.
At this point, about half of the answers to the submission think it’s either a joke project taken very, very seriously with a good chunk of money behind it, or a kid with parents that have narrowly avoided falling completely down the mad scientist rogue rabbit hole.
After all, what sort of parent would think that the DMV would approve to “anti-ghost missiles” being attached to the outer body of the car? Either way, the submissions always had video attached showing a demonstration, proving that Ghost wasn’t just completely yanking their chain. And a good amount of money would have to be sunken in to not only pay for the fines Ghostly continued to get from the additions to his car, but to actually manufacture and make a unique working product for each plea for help request.
Harold is not only taking notes on some of these defense measures but also decides to bring up the boy to Alfred. Intrigued, they together keep an eye on Ghostly_Boy. Bruce may be their employer, but they can handle a case or two on their own.
- I wanted Danny to try to make smth for himself now that he doesn’t have access to his parent’s lab anymore but he also doesn’t have access to ectoplasm so he’s fairly unfamiliar how to wire things Not for ectoplasmic standards.
Also I wanted to make a prompt where Danny had a good relationship with his parents & went into a fairly realistic job after high school with his fairly bad GPA so he’s saving up for a technical school via construction jobs as he doesn’t like the idea of working fast food for understandable reasons.
#dpxdc#bones writes#i have about 3 dozen ideas for dpxdc ideas to do with Howard#I’m going to be a manufacturing engineer.#i got so many ideas for this dude teaching one of the batkids or a visitor to the batcave about how cad programs work#& why he’s using x material for its purpose#instead of y material#like this dude could just be any of my automation profs

Weak
[ 04 ] — an offer she could definitely not refuse
⟵ prev | master list | next ⟶
My daily routine is very simple. I wake up and I suffer.
There wasn't a day in (Y/n)'s life where she didn't think about how to pulverize Gojō in multiple excruciatingly painful ways. From the moment she had met him up until the present where her hatred for that blasted sorcerer was at its peak.
Even now as she maneuvered around the city on her black motorcycle trying to get away from the three first years who were still pestering her to help them.
Tch! Persistent brats!
(Y/n) shifted gears and proceeded on running three red lights all the while swiftly and barely dodging the cars that had met her as she throttled full speed on the opposite lane.
I have a bloody helmet on! How can they even tell it's me?!
Detouring through a truck lane, she looked back to see if those pesky brats were still on her tail. Through her tinted visors, (Y/n) saw a huge bird-looking thing up in the sky, seemingly dotting on her current location.
Nue...
At the sight of the flying chicken on her side mirrors, a flash of black, spiky hair flooded her vision, momentarily blinding all coherent thoughts.
Tch! I remember who you are now... blessing.
An ear-piercing sound shattered her train of thoughts. (Y/n)'s head coiled so inhumanly quick that if she had not been a sorcerer, it would've twisted and detached from her neck before rolling onto the asphalt road.
Her (e/c) irises had met with the front of a container truck. The bloodstained cracks painting the windshield, confirmed the existence of a curse. How it even got inside the cabin, she had no idea. What more, how it perfectly intercepted her at this very second, she had no clue.
Her assumptions that were thought of on the spot was proven to be correct when she saw that in the place of the driver was a blob of internal organs all mushed up like a pile of freshly dissected intestines with a mix of vomit, staring right into where she was currently speeding—straight into its direction.
And with not enough time to think, her fingers had moved on their own to cast a perilous technique, one she had not done in many, many years.
"Charge—" with her fingers crossing and holding one another... "Hellfire." She cast.
The atmosphere around the vehicle had erupted into flames, glittering fire that had framed the truck into that single frozen motion. Quickly as the flames had eaten the hunk of metal, (Y/n) jumped from her vehicle and found herself rolling onto the road, barely preventing herself from being consumed by her own Jujutsu. Originally, she was worried about having to replace her handbrake, how expensive it would cost, the meals she'd have to cut to afford that. Now, she didn't have to think about that anymore... because now, had to replace everything! Her motorcycle just drove itself straight into the hellfire that was quite literally her jujutsu.
There goes my baby...
The sorcerer released a relieved breath as what stood now in the place of the truck and was once her bike was a stuffed bear with white fur that radiated a huge amount of cursed energy.
(Y/n) stood up to wobble her way to the little bear in the middle of the road.
This... was... a bad... idea—
Tossing her headgear somewhere, the woman struggled to catch her bearings as anything and everything multiplied into two more versions of itself, distorting her vision as the reality of what she did dawned on her in finality. A throbbing pain ripped at her body as she felt as if her organs were being burned and iced at the same time.
Why... did I do... that?
Her vision began accumulating dark spots as breathing suddenly became such a difficult thing to do, and the constant blares of truck horns did not help one bit. (Y/n)'s hand grabbed the fabric of her shirt as the other held on the railings for support.
This is all your fault, Goj ō !!
The ringing in her ears became deafening as (Y/n) felt a warm, metallic-smelling and tasting substance drip from her nose and pool inside her mouth.
"(L/n)-san!"
(Y/n)'s vision had contorted as she looked up and suddenly began seeing two to three younger versions of an all too familiar Zenin outcast running towards her.
The sorcerer had tried to fight back the urge to pass out, not wanting anyone—especially not his child—to have to be the one to bring her home or worse... kill her.
"I don't need... your... help."
But before the intended words could roll off her tongue, the sense of consciousness and awareness had slowly begun detaching itself from her body leaving her completely defenseless to the young sorcerer in front of her, and to the entire Jujutsu society.
"She's knocked out." Itadori skidded to a stop right in front of the unconscious woman. "Hurry! Let's take her to the school before she wakes up!!"
---
"LET ME GO YOU LITTLE MOTHER FU--"
Yuuji and Nobara both hid behind Fushiguro for protection. Their eyes reflected fear with a glimmer of worry as they watched the older woman scream and thrash around the ropes and talismans they had wrapped around her.
"(L/n)-san, we just really need your help—" Fushiguro tried to reason, holding up his hands in defense as he slowly began to approach the fuming woman.
"I TOLD YOU!" (Y/n) glared menacingly at them, eyes practically glowing with the intent to slaughter these little pests until they were no longer anything but a bunch of compiled meat.
"EVEN IF SOMEONE WERE TO BLOWTORCH A JAR OF RATS ON MY FACE AND HAVE THEM EAT THROUGH MY SKULL I. AM. NOT. HELPING. THAT. NARCISSISTIC. PSYCHOPATH. EVER!" The way she had pressed on every syllable made it obvious that there was no room for argument, but of course... the three first years were persistent.
Although they wouldn't show it, the sight of the sweaty woman tied up on the chair whose messy hair was sprawled all over her face was downright terrifying. And her ragged breath and the deadly glint in her eyes added more effect to her already intimidating and horrifying appearance. The scenery that had met their eyes looked as if Sadako had crawled all the way up from her well and possessed the woman to keep being so irrationally impossible.
The reasonable of the three first years was so close to giving up. A little more push on his patience and the thought of letting Gojo die will begin to seem pretty decent in his eyes.
"(L/n)-san—" This time it was Itadori who tried to talk, he hoped that perhaps a little friendliness and warmth in this harsh, held-against-your-will situation could coax some consideration into (L/n)'s wretched and selfish soul.
But of course, it only caused (Y/n) to exasperatedly sigh and dramatically roll her eyes at him.
Her response caused the young shaman in training to flinch and back away to the far corner, fearing that another meep from him would result in that horrendous witch to obliterate him to dust.
"You're being so unreasonably unfair—" This time it was Kugisaki who butted in, accusingly pointing her finger at the unfazed woman.
"PUH-lease!" (Y/n) exclaimed, startling them all into silence.
"Let us make one thing clear here, brats." She eyed each and every single one of the children who wouldn't stop annoying the living daylights out of her, drilling in the much-needed heavyweights of spooks into their overconfident veins.
"I... do NOT care... what happens to that brainless idiot! Even if he were to die a gruesome death, you would never see me mourn for the likes of him! You three are lucky enough to even have this conversation with me right now much more still breathe with that tone you are using on me."
"So... while I can still manage my anger—" (Y/n) gestured to the ropes that were made binding her, "let me go."
(Y/n)'s suppressed cursed energy threatened their own as her growing rage began thawing what was left of the students' resolve to help their teacher. "I was okay with living my quiet life, alone and away from that eyesore. Now, I just want to regain that peace of mind knowing that I'm a hundred thousand kilometers away from that Oompa Loompa."
Your students take after you... couple of little shi—
"What will it take to convince you, (L/n)-san?!" That pinky boy was the first one to muster up the courage and ask, slowly inching away from the corner he had hidden himself in. His eyes shone with the determination that vaguely hid the looming sense of fear that continued to haunt him.
(Y/n) scoffed at him, spitting her accumulated saliva to the other side of the room.
Desperate now, are we?
The older sorcerer looked them up and down and began estimating that the only thing keeping these first years from running out the door was their sheer willpower and probably the innocent compassion that they had for Satoru.
"Nothing—"
"We'll pay you." Now it was mini-Fushiguro who had bargained. From (Y/n)'s experience with Clan outcasts, they were the ones who were most likely would hold true to their words, as opposed to those who are reveled and worshiped by their family like some sort of god, nothing but filthy, dirty little traitors.
His words had made her put a small gram of adoration for the boy with sea urchin-like hair, the gram that Satoru would never get given his relationship with (Y/n) at the moment.
"Oh yeah? How much are we talkin' 'bout here, spiky?" (Y/n) challenged, teasing the sorcerer to egg him on.
"Five million dollars. Five million and you can leave with your sanity intact."

Sometime overnight something struck my car's windshield and shattered it badly enough that it isn't safe to drive. Fortunately a local repair guy can replace it for $295 later this week; I just need a some help covering the cost because I'll be missing a few days of delivery work in the meantime.
If anyone can spare a couple dollars to toss at my paypal, I'd greatly appreciate it!! No worries if not - please make sure your own oxygen mask is on first, etc etc.
Thank you once again, and I hope you have a fantastic day!

Open Icon Commissions: Need To Pay For More Car Repairs
We need to replace the muffler and the windshield on the car, so I'm opening up a deal and doing avatar/icon commissions of your characters!
You can also access my portfolio and information about other types of commissions here.
They'll cost $25 USD! Which is a deal because I usually price stuff like this (Bust/headshot + clean line work + color + fully shaded) at $50. You're getting it half off!
Avatar size is 500x500 pixels, you can request for them to be resized to a smaller scale.
I can do payments through Ko-Fi or P*ypal! I can also do monsters, furries, and other humanoids.
RULES
Do not use my art to train AI.
Do not claim art as yours; please credit and link back to me.
Do not use my work for commercial use, or resell it. Gifting it is fine.
