My Monterey trip ended with a visit to @winchestermysteryhouse! This historical (& haunted?!) landmark has been on my Must Visit list for a while & I’m so happy I finally got to go & on such a gorgeous day! The house is a veritable maze- truly gorgeous & bizarre -reflecting Sarah Winchester’s fraught life after the death of her child and husband. . . . The Winchester Mystery House has been on my list of places to visit for a while & it’s on my #30List! I finally made the trip at the end of my Monterey weekend & it was incredible! . . From the outside, it’s a sprawling Queen Anne Victorian Mansion. On the inside, it’s a labyrinth of 100+ rooms, stairways that don’t always lead where you think, & so many gorgeous windows. There are 47 fireplaces, 3 elevators, & a ballroom that supposedly inspired Walt Disney’s Haunted Mansion ballroom. Sarah Winchester built this house & spared no expense- whether it was from grief, superstition, or some kind of charity, the home she spent the last years of her life working on is a stunning landmark. . . I have much more to share about it, but since it was an item on my 30 before 35 list, I’ll probably blog about it in the near future. Plus, I’d like to do some further research. . . .
