hi! i was wondering if you all had the storyboards for jim's fight with nomura in his house from the episode win lose or draal? I could have sworn I had them saved on my tumblr but if they are, the search function is not helping me find them

so my interpretation of jim, and the reason why i drew him the angsty way i did was because i looked at his character in ToA from like, a mental illness metaphor perspective. i dont think(?) it was ever the showrunner’s intention to do that, but its just a personal way i viewed it bc i saw and felt a lot of his struggles between the lines of the series.

like in episode 6: Win Lose or Draal- where Jim thinks hes going to get killed in battle, writes letters to his loved ones, cooks a last meal for his mom, felt and acted like was the last day he was going to live. Claire interpreting his letter to her that he was talking about having “internal monsters” and “being in some kind of trouble” didnt help much as well AHAH

jim hiding so much from his mom, that one shot in season 1 episode 12 or 13 where he hides the damage on his arms from the goblins behind his back-AHHHHH

and dont get me started on the bathtub scene in A House Divided like idk what the showrunners were thinking doing that but okay i guess😭 that one made me sob on the floor like TWICE

and Jimhunters-god that really felt like your life being altered, and seeing everything in a much darker lens when going through depression. the first time i watched it and when Jim ran to the school rooftop i was legitimately horrified and scared out of my MIND but thank god they didn’t go much beyond that. STILL. thanks for the heart attack 😭😭😭

so back to the tags on that post:

i never liked a hero w a thousand faces because of how chaotic and exaggerated everything was but i guess its because it was different parts of jim split and personified.

but i guess it just messed me up seeing that episode again and having Hunter Jim, the highest functioning one out of them all being the one hunting HIMSELF DOWN, one by one. it really felt like a lot of self loathing going on, and he literally was looking to “kill” other parts of himself, and then the Real Jim as a whole. sorry that was jumbled up and a lot but it was what made me go like

thats kinda the gist of how i saw some moments of Jim’s character back then, and i guess it explains why so much of my art leans towards angst and that hurt comfort, because of all those interpretations i had going on in my head. it was rough a couple years back and this series helped me to reflect and process a lot of what happened and the feelings i had, through Jim. it was a like a safe little sandbox i could toss around in and it genuinely helped so much in healing :”D!! so yeah its more of a personal take, but hope this answers ur question?

What do you think would happen if Steve had found out Jim had the amulet before Toby did?

He still acts like canon Steve at this point, but he could change and (or potentially because he) take Toby's role in the Trollhunting team.

So, let's say that instead of waiting for the scheduled fight like in the canon, Steve decides to humiliate Jim asap. His dumb plan involves sneaking into Jim's basement, scaring him and recording a video of his embarrassing reaction (and obviously posting it everywhere). The thing is that Steve sneaks into the basement only some minutes before Blinky and Aaarrrgghh do the same. So, the revenge plan fails gloriously (as Steve gets scared way more than Jim and passes out earlier), and Jim ends with rather inconvenient team mate.

When both Steve and Jim wake up next day, Steve is fully convinced that the trolls will eat them if they tell about their existence to anyone. Jim's arguments against it have no impact - Steve is still paranoid and starts to follow Jim everywhere, not letting him tell about trolls to Barbara, Toby or Strickler (ironically, because of Steve, Strickler learns the secret later than in the canon).

Meanwhile, Jim suddenly realizes that he isn't scared of Steve at all - not after seeing his reaction to trolls. He finds out that he can easily argue with him if needed.

The problem is that Steve's odd attitude and constant hanging out around Jim picks up everyone's attention (and Coach starts to suspect some bullying involved), so Steve finds no better option than to claim that Jim is his new best friend. It's quite a bombshell, as Steve's friends have no idea how to react, and Toby is just upset (because he can clearly see that Jim is rather comfortable around Steve). Toby encounters Jim, demanding explanation, but Steve butts in once again, only making the misunderstanding worse.

Steve is more confident around the trolls during their next visit. He realizes the situation better this time and is rather annoyed that Jim is 'the Chosen One', claiming that he will be a better pick. By this time, Jim already can't take him seriously and can only roll eyes at his comments.

Strickler learns the secret right before tryouts for Romeo and Juliet as Jim accidentally summons the armor (and Steve complains loudly that it's unfair when they hide together). Both Steve and Toby end at the tryouts - Steve because he refuses to let Jim stay alone (as he now wants to keep the secret exclusive to the two of them), and Toby because he still wants to talk to his best friend. Steve ends up as Tybalt in the play, and Toby is Mercutio. Ms. Janeth is elated, LOL.

After school, Jim and Steve meet Blinky and Aaarrrgghh again (there's no encounter with Bular as Strickler had no time to inform him). They go to the Trollmarket where they meet Draal who is really pissed about the whole situation, claiming that Jim isn't worth the amulet (and Steve, being his first-season ass self, joins Draal in that, not realizing that Draal will be as pissed about him being the Trollhunter). Jim loses the spar like in the canon, and Steve uses it as another argument that he should be the Trollhunter. He even challenges Jim to fight him for the title. Blinky tries to encourage Jim, but it's not enough. Moreover, at the exit to the Trollmarket Bular is waiting for him and Jim barely escapes (he's alone too, so his confidence plummets even more).

At school, Toby sees that Jim is obviously down and tries to initiate another talk, but Steve butts in again. It results in a verbal spat between Jim and Steve, and Steve resolves to the fists approach. It's where Jim one-hit KOs him, finally realizing he can actually fight for the things he cares about, so he challenges Draal to the battle. Like in the canon, he leaves letters to everyone he cares about. Steve is the only one who doesn't realize it's a death battle (he genuinely believes that Draal will just beat Jim and humiliate him), so he cheers for Draal. Jim wins, much like in the canon. It's still not enough for Steve to acknowledge him (he keeps claiming that Draal wasn't serious enough).

Meanwhile, Toby actually reads Jim's letter, but like Claire, he thinks it's a metaphor (he believes that the monsters mentioned are Steve and his goons who bullied Jim into some deranged scheme). He teams up with Claire who also wants to find out the truth.

Strickler visits Jim's house like in the canon and eventually starts to date Barbara. However, he also tries a different approach by talking to Steve (as he's sure that Steve's loyalty to Jim is minimal) and stealthily feeding his ego, hoping to use the inner discord in the team Trollhunters. However, he clearly miscalculates here as Steve doesn't feel that comfortable talking to Strickler. It's a gut feeling and Steve simply starts to avoid the History teacher at some point. Yet, unlike Toby, he never suspects him of being a changeling.

Steve just keeps trying to prove himself and getting into trouble. However, because of Steve the team finds the hideout at the museum. Steve is also the one who accidentally discovers that Gladys is a changeling (he suspects Toby of being one, much to Jim's annoyance, and follows him everywhere).

When there is a mess during NotEnrique babysitting session, both Claire and Toby are convinced that Steve actually bullies Jim into participating in some dumb activities. They encounter Steve together and try to force him to stop without any result. Then Toby tries to follow Steve and find some dirt on him to use as a bargaining chip. Unfortunately, that day, Steve ends up finding the hideout under the museum and both he and Toby are kidnapped.

At the same time, Jim learns about Strickler's true identity and is devastated. It's like his world is falling apart as he cannot hang out with his best friend Toby anymore because of the trollhunting and his favorite teacher is actually a changeling. Because of that, he doesn't even realize at first that Steve and Toby are missing until Claire encounters him about that. Claire believes that Steve has done something to Toby, but Jim realizes at once that some troll stuff might be involved. It looks as if Jim tries to excuse Steve to Claire at first and she's furious. It ends with Jim accidentally revealing the troll stuff to her. At first, Claire is in disbelief, until she sees the amulet. Jim tries to omit revealing the information about NotEnrique, but Claire pressures him for answers, so he has no other choice.

Jim and Claire team up to save Toby (and Steve, while they are in it). Jim tries to find out the possible lair's location, while Claire acts independently and tries to find the changeling NotEnrique is working for. She is the one who learns Strickler's true identity and encounters him about it (she still has quite a vague understanding of how dangerous their opponents are and thinks that Strickler might be willing to negotiate). Strickler doesn't harm Claire but he scares her a lot and uses her to deliver the message to Jim, proposing to switch the amulet for his friends.

Much like in the canon, Jim seemingly agrees to the terms while his team barges in later. Bular dies and Toby and Steve are saved.

The kidnapping seemingly taught Steve some humility - only until he learns that Jim is his opponent for the king's title (which Jim honestly doesn't care about at all, but Steve is pissed that Jim is always the chosen one). Even though Steve is on the team and even tries to help, when it comes to the competition, he becomes insufferable, which gets on everyone's nerves.

Steve truly realizes how wrong he is, when Barbara is injured, and when Jim goes to the Darklands alone, Steve feels truly guilty and separates from the team to start his own trollhunting activities which Eli joins by accident.

Claire and Toby are initially angry with Steve (before knowing what he actually does), as they think that he just bailed when things went South. They apologize though, when they realize that Steve actually protects the city.

The Creepslayerz remain semi-independent, but they cooperate with the main team when Claire and Toby decide to infiltrate the Janus Order headquarters (they go in too) and when the main team goes to rescue Jim to the Darklands (they guard gates together with Draal and stay once Draal goes to the Darklands too). Steve and Eli witness Gunmar's return, so the Trollhunters team knows that he is out for sure. It leads to Nomura staying, Strickler coming back earlier and Draal never getting under Gunmar's control (as he never goes investigating alone).

I'm having flashbacks to Draal's fight with Jim in "Win Lose or Draal".

Absolutely nutty idea.

Trollhunters but Jim physically performs a 100% better when music is playing. You know like Mad Rat Dead or Hi-Fi Rush where the main character moves better as their actions match the beat of the song. Only Toby and Barbara sees it like an odd quirk while anyone else thinks its either magic or the guy took something.

Just imagine when Jim is fighting Draal in 'Win, Lose or Draal', the Trollhunter's phone flies out of the arena. The moment it hits the ground, it plays something like 'Find Your Flame' at full blast and everything takes a 180. It's Draal now backed into a corner.

Jim somehow bumps from amateur to seasoned sword wielding gremlin. Man is fucking everywhere as his moves and attacks seemingly shift into a vicious dance. The trolls are so confused at the huge leap in skill while Toby just shouting 'Dance, Jim, Dance!'

It pretty much leads Blinky, AAARRRGGHH and Draal to believe Jim has some sort of enchantment that triggers under music. A thought which suddenly becomes mutual to all his enemies because no way is this normal. Not even Morgana or Gunmar believe the Trollhunter isn't using some undetectable magic.

Also, the image of Jim being a menace in the Darklands to 'You're Gonna Go Far, Kid' by the Offspring is hilarious to me. He's a song based adrenaline junkie whose fully ready for a beat to drop. I'm pretty sure it scares the shit outta even the mightiest troll without any context.

Heads up if you don't like dark angsty stuff, contains blood and takes place in a bathroom and depending on how you take it, themes of suicide

-simply, if rott went for a darker sort of tone and toby didn't get the amulet (Because HELLO! unbecoming?)

Deep red blood swirls down the porcaline sink with the help of tap water, it falls like an everlasting stream from his gaping maw as he gasps in pain. Occasionally the addition of salty tears drips into the monsoon of swirling blood.

He doesnt look into the mirror, even if he could see through the barrage of tears he still wouldn't, he just grasps the sides of the sink firmly

He remembers looking into this mirror many a time, as a happy child brushing his teeth, as a hurried 10 year old late for baseball, and a halfway terrified 15 year old with two huge trolls hiding in his shower

Flashes of forgotten memories cling to him, they strangle the last morsel of hope in his eyes as that too drains away

The distant hum of static grows louder and louder, what should be a soft metalic ticking is gone, what should be a gentle blue glow is replaced with pitch black

Like the pitch black of that awful elixir, like the pitch black of the cavernous dimension it sucked him into, Like the pitch black of his insides as they twisted and clenched in pain and like the infamous darklands that he spent two hellish weeks in

The static grows louder and louder. Whispered voices trickle into his ears. His eyes clamps shut

'shut up!' he wills it away, he does not prevail

More blood pours out of his mouth as he chokes on rising bile, the tears just keep coming. Scalding his stone cold face

God forbid if his mom heard him, she's in the next room. She would worry so much..

But why is it him, why choose him, why curse him, out of all people in this world why poison him with knowledge only he remembers

(Becaue as per his own words "I can't do this alone")

High pitched ringing flooded into his ears, it brings out a burning, pulsing, bleeding, stabbing headache. The static seems to get louder, overwhelmingly so, so loud that he opened his eyes and could see it

He was so tired, if he dared look in the mirror he would see black circles that would never truly fade.

he carried the worlds weight and it was breaking his back. Crushing him ever so slowly until he couldn't see the path that was lay for him

He knows he can make this burden go away, make this pain stop forever but he can't

There will always be other trollhunters, but never another one of him... Never one who remebers the way to fix things, it would never even work anyways. He is the amulet's champion and if Draal inherited the amulet after he died he would never forgive himself

But can he do this again.... For the third time? He bearly did it once, but on the other hand he's been back for a few weeks now, everything's according to plan, the school trip to the museum is in a few days where Toby will loose his chubby tracker and could die as they faces the goblin hoard

his hand shake, a whiney sob escapes him

He almost wants to run away

But he can't let his fear overtake him, what would happen if he leaves? Who will save everyone? what consequences would take place? who would suffer because he isn't...

Who would answer the call? only he truly knows how to save the world! he can't let his manic thoughts win

Fear is the precursor to valor, let fear overtake him and he can't take himself to greater heights, to become again

To move on from lingering thoughts and prevail in the face of darkness, he can't tell anyone about his little escapades with the time stone

It's too much of a risk, too much to go wrong, too much to lose.

With an iron grip now latched into a fist James Lake junior turns off the tap and quietly storms off, into his room and onto his bed

1) Trollhunters. Just yes. If I had a chance to marry a show it would be Trollhunters and we could be the happiest couple ever. I think this show is the best because:

a) There is Nomura!

b) There is Draal!!

c) They share THREE joint scenes, two of them trying to kill each other. That's all c:

16) ANGOR ROT. At the first I was thinking about Strickler from s1, but I totally forgot about this legend (my bestie can kill me for that). Angor feels so rational and it makes him very dangerous. He is smart and strong and after losing his soul he is going crazy so at some moment I've thought that he will kill Jim or Barbara in their house (he almost did it). And his design is perfect. We can talk a lot about disadvantages of Golden Gunmar, Morgana, Morando and other villians' designs, but Angor's is the best in the show. It is balanced, practical and hot, you know, hehe. Also we have to remember that he has killed a lot of trollhunters and was a pro head hunter with magic powers. Villian Hot ancient husbando with magic powers and animal lover thats him

20) "don't make it weird". I like so much "win lose or Draal" and all the scenes from it! Honestly, when I was watching battle between Jim and Draal I was very sweaty like I was in forge with them. And when Draal repeated the same phrase that told him Jim after their battle I've understood that my heart ISN'T MINE TO COMMAND HSJSHSH

@xdeusxmachinax okay, but Strickler and his former students though???

The impression the show gives us is that despite everything, Strickler is a good teacher and he's trusted/respected by his students. And this guy has been a teacher at Arcadia Oaks High for years; he's helped shepherd hundreds of kids from freshman year to graduation, and he's bound to have made an impression on more than a few.

How sweet would it be for some of his former students to reach out to him after the whole changeling thing comes out? Kids he hasn't heard from in ten or fifteen years send him emails or letters letting him know how much his support and guidance meant to them during high school and that what he looks like on the outside doesn't change the amazing person he is on the inside.

Now they say this not knowing what he's really like on the inside of course. They only knew Mr. Strickler, never Stricklander. But the sentiment is still touching, and it does reassure him that losing his human form doesn't mean he's lost all the relationships he fostered in it.

I am now back on Freaky Friday AU.

Jim has a delightful realization after landing in Strickler's body: Strickler is super freaking strong. Which is weird because he doesn't look like he should be, but after a day or so Jim realizes there's a sense of...potential in Strickler's movements. One that requires a series of rigorous scientific tests:

Can I bend this fork? Yup.

Can I punch a dent into a tree? Yup! But, ow.

Can I lift this heavy rock? Yup.

Can I throw this heavy rock? Yup!

Can I lift a car?! Yup--well, the frontend at least. But now Strickler's pissed and he's yelling at me about wrecking his body and his suspension so maybe I'll stop.

And when he's in troll form? Forget it. He gains a sobering appreciation for the opponents he's up against. If Strickler can do all of this, imagine what Draal, or Bular or, Gunmar must be capable of.

And that comes with a realization of its own: Strickler has always been capable of this. At any time since learning the truth he could have hurt Jim--badly. And that's just physically; poking around in Strickler's stuff, and hearing the colorful stories associated with what he finds, reveals that Strickler's got a lot of ways to kill people, and most of them wouldn't leave a trace of foul play behind.

So now Jim's upset because Strickler's been holding back on him this whole time. And he's not sure what makes him angrier: the idea that Strickler doesn't take him seriously as an opponent, or the knowledge that Strickler is going out of his way to avoid hurting or killing him, which means he does care about him--just not enough to be on his side.

Trollmarket was beautiful. The underground city was full of colorful lights, even with the market empty the place looked alive. Immediately, Y/n’s eyes found the heartstone. The gigantic cristal and it’s warmth light left her completely speechless, even made her forget, for a moment, the possibility of her brother dying.

“Where’s everyone?” Y/n asked. She was excited to meet Jim’s new friends and the creatures his book depicted.

“Probably waiting for the fight” explained Toby.

“Oh, right” she took her eyes from the heartstone and looked at her brother “Don’t worry if you die I’ll bring you back” she joked.

Jim gave her a half smile. They were both terrible at hiding their fear.

“Master Jim! Welco-ah! Witch” Blinky stopped mid greeting.

“Blinky! This is my sister Y/n!”

“Oh! My apologies, I must've confused her with someone else!”

“You know a lot of humans?” Y/n lifted her eyebrow confused.

“Oh…well” Blinky’s arms fell down to his side but he put them back up fast “Come on, master Jim. A…great warrior always…shows up in time…” he started pushing Jim to the hero’s forge.

At the forge all the trolls were already excited, filled with the rush of battle.

“Hey, I… I want you to have this” Jim gave a letter to Y/n and another to Toby.

“What’s this?” Asked Toby.

“It says everything I want to say”

“You promised me tacos”

“Now is not the time for lunch, Tobes” Jim scoffed.

“Last week, the three of us went for tacos. I paid. You said, ‘Next time on me’ You’re going to get this letter back unopened after the fight, and when you get back, we’ll get tacos”

“He’s right, Jim. You owe him tacos” Y/n smiled.

“Tacos sound good” Jim laughed.

“Draal, son of Kanjigar, son of Tarigar, Draal “the destroyer”, come forth.” Vendel, the white troll announced.

A spiky blue rock started rolling down a path, jumping in the air transforming into a big blue troll with six horns.

“That’s Draal?” Y/n whispered to Toby “He’s huge”

“Yeah” he sounded as worried as her.

“And now, Draal’s combatant, James Lake Jr, son of…Bar-bu-rah. Come forth human trollhunter”

The crowd started booig the second they saw Jim.

“Fight from your heart, Master Jim. It’s strong, stronger than any rock” screamed Blinky.

They close the arena and Blinky said quietly to himself “And certainly, stronger than mine”

But Y/n heard him.

“Don’t worry, he’ll be fine.” she reassured “He has to”

Y/n could hear Toby, Aaaarrrgghh and Blinky speak but she couldn’t pay attention to anything they were saying, only the troll trying to kill his brother.

“And, I am Jim, son of Barbara and the amulet choose me”

The flying axes send Draal over the edge of the arena.

“Yes! He did it!” Celebrated Toby.

“It’s not over yet” explained Blinky.

“He has to finish the fight” completed Y/n without taking her eyes off her brother. She had studied the book all night alongside Jim. She knew what her brother had to do next, what the crowd was asking him to do next, they were screaming for death.

Jim grabbed his sword and Y/n closed her eyes. She couldn’t look at her brother killing someone.

Suddenly the crowd was booing again. Y/n opened her eyes and saw her brother standing next to Draal.

“Look, I may not have followed your rules, but neither did the amulet when it chose me. Right now, over our heads, changelings are in Arcadia..”

Fear and confusion filled the room.

Blinky and Toby ran to Jim before he could unveal the secret.

“What is he talking about?” Screamed Vendel.

“You’ll need a Trollhunter who doesn’t have to live in the shadows. This is a time to work together. They’re building the Killahead—“

“STOP! Say no more! We must leave this instant!” Blinky grabbed Jim by the arm.

“Killahead” Y/n repeated. The word left a metallic taste in her mouth.

“Oh, praise! You’re alive!” Toby hugged Jim like he would disappear

“And sore. Ease up” Jim chuckled

Aaarrrgghh and Blinky were called by Vendel before they could celebrate the trollhunter’s victory.

“He opened the letter” Y/n laughed.

“I can tell”

“I didn’t” Y/n smiled and gave Jim back the envelope “You can tell what you wrote if you want but I can’t read the words you thought would be your last message to me”

Jim took the letter and smiled back at her.

Y/n turned and started walking. The tears were escaping from her eyes and she didn’t want to be seen like that, especially now, when they were celebrating.

“Remember just a normal teenager and his older sister and their normal life” Jim said more to himself than to Y/n.

“Hi, mom. We’re back!" said Y/n while she took her jacket off. A shiver ran through her spine.

‘Strickler?’ She thought. The same uneasiness she felt when she met him was running through her spine again.

She walked behind her brother and saw that it wasn’t Strickler with her mother but a woman.

“In here. Jim, guess who brought tea?”

Jim stopped in front of the woman that was accompanying her mother. Y/n recognised fear flashing in her brother’s eyes but his face suddenly shifted back and started kicking Nomura out. Y/n wanted to stop his brother but Barbara passed out before she could do anything.

“Mom?” She ran to her mother.

“That speech was very moving” The woman left the table “Too bad she won’t remember it when she wakes up and find your body”

She grabbed Jim and threw him to the kitchen.

Y/n hug her mother trying to protect her from the fight.

“What’s going on?” She screamed.

“Go upstairs!” Jim told her sister.

“Jim I won’t …”

“Go!” He screamed while grabbing his backpack looking for the amulet.

She went and hid in the bathroom, her brother quickly joined her.

The troll whistled a song letting them know she was close.

“Not creepy at all” whispered Y/n.

“Yes! Thank you!” Jim grabbed the amulet from behind the mirror.

Before the troll could open the bathroom door someone grabbed her. Y/n and Jim shared a look and went out to investigate. In their backyard, Draal was fighting the troll.

“What are you doing here?” Screamed at the woman-troll.

“Delivering you pain again, Nomura” Draal answered, shielding Y/n and Jim “Do not touch the Trollhunter”

“Suddenly you’re honorable? Sorry to hear about daddy. Bular always liked the way he screamed”

The fight started again and quickly finished when Draal threw Nomura through the air.

“You were right”

“So, you’re not here to kill me?” Jim asked with his sword in his hand.

“Not kill. Protect” Draal looked at Y/n. She smiled at him.

Jim thanked the troll.

Draal quickly started to walk around the house looking for a place to stay.

“Since I can’t go back to trollmarker I’ll stay here, guard your home”

“I don’t think my mom would be down for that” said Jim.

Draal went downstairs to the basement. Eating a piece of coal and taking a couple more out of the heater he said “This is nice. Here I shall protect you, your witch and your fleshbag mother, Bar-bu-rah”

“What did you call me?” Y/n started walking up to him half confused and half offended. Why were the trolls calling her a witch?

Jim stopped his sister from fighting his new protector “Mmmh close enough” he laughed.

“Your mother will awaken soon. I protect. I don’t clean”

Y/n rolled her eyes and went upstairs along side Jim.
