(William had a dream, once. A strange one. He wrote about it in his advanced Brindisian course at the Guild wherein the teacher declared that students were to: Write a short story about a dream that could have been a memory. Make sure to use the conditional tense throughout. And William opened his little essay with: I once dreamed my father killed a man in our kitchen as February turned into March. It could have been a memory, of course. He received a middling mark. Not for a lack of prowess with the language, for he grew up speaking it, but because he didn’t follow the parameters of the assignment. Mr. Downey, you were to write a dream that could have been a memory. You just wrote a dream.)
(William would have been seven if the very vivid dream that got him marked-down in his Brindisian course had happened in real life. Maybe eight. Maybe six. Somewhere in there. He would have come down the back-stairs and huddled against the railing watching his father work in the kitchen which is why William thinks his teacher likely right, that this must be a dream because his father never works in the kitchen.)
(There would have been a man appearing suddenly and he would have had a knife and William would have been frightened and then the man would have been on the ground and his father would have been beating him with a fire poker until the man stopped moving then Amos could have come into the hall where he would have been eye-level with Willian, as William was on the stairs, and Amos could have looked his son straight in the eye and said, gently: go to bed, William.)
(And William likely would have done as his father said. But he might have watched from his window as his father and mother took a large object out the back gate into the alley and from there William wouldn’t have known.)
(But the thing is, William doesn’t remember this. It’s a feeling, not a story. It’s a dream, not a memory. He’s never asked his father and never will. What a horrible thing, to have your son ask you if you’re a murderer. They’re getting along. They’re learning about each other, for the first time in over a decade. William doesn’t want to ruin things and he knows he has a bit of a talent for that. Anyway, Amos doesn’t work in the kitchen. Has never worked in the kitchen. No, no, he works in his counting room. Always. Therefore, it was a dream.)
(Oh, well, except when there have been floods and the counting room suffers a little damage because of it—spring melt off, poorly maintained riverbanks—and Amos would work at night in the kitchen, then.)
(Anyway. None of that matters.)
never underestimate Amos’ stress level at the end of financial quarters.

Trains won! Does anybody want to hear the dumbest thing Texas has done with trains?
FUCK YES
So, Crash at Crush was an event.
The MKT train company had some old trains and no clue what to do with them. A man named Willian George Crush suggested that they let people pay to watch two trains crash into one another.
September 15, 1896 was the date the event actually took place. As promised, the company trashed two trains into one another head on around 5 pm!
There was even a song written for it by Scott Joplin called Great Crush Collision March.
The present day historical marker is in West, Texas which is a town in East Texas.

[Image ID: The black and white photograph shows the moment just before the two trains used in the event Crash at Crush collided. There is smoke coming out of the trains chimneys and trailing behind them.. /.End ID]

On Being Thirty
Almost half a lifetime ago now I wrote a poem on the eve of my sixteenth birthday called  “On Being Fifteen.” It went like this:
Ridiculous. Not for the oversung anathemas, but for being like fingernails: us you will see drawing blood like Caravaggio on canvasses of skin, carving our stigmata as a coat of arms on tables and trees, singing symphonies on blackboards like cheap violins, our tireless grins growing with each crescendo.
In reflection I think I had a decent sense of metaphor, even then, and I remember the feeling of quiet dread for the day ahead, which I took to be a waymark on the long march toward death. Now I am almost thirty
and the quiet labors of death seem  in a way friendlier, more familiar:
Mr. Sabella, whose voice I hear every now and again when certain integrals appear;
Ed and Helen, the neighbors next-door, in whose backyard pool I conquered my fear of water;
Willian, from my kindergarten class and later marching band and occasional game of Starcraft;
Jeff, also from the marching band, with piercing eyes and a confidence I admired and had not yet seen;
my grandparents, whose home I remember full of plants, birds, and shrines and thought would never change.
But all things change. That is the lesson of physics, or at least one of them. Who am I now, who will I be? Have you found it yet, the meaning of your life? It seems to me, in some small part, that we, the living, are the vessels for the dead, who remain with us until we join them. In fifteen years
perhaps I will have another one of these. And that is all I can say.

Japan's New Six-Month Residency Visa for 'Digital Nomads'
Tumblr media
In a bid to attract global talent and capitalize on the growing trend of remote work, Japan is set to introduce a new visa status that will allow IT engineers and other highly skilled workers to reside in the country while working remotely. The Immigration Services Agency announced this groundbreaking initiative on Friday, envisioning a program that will enable "digital nomads" to experience the beauty of Japan while continuing their professional pursuits. pexels willian justen de vasconcellos Details of the Program: The new visa status, designed for highly skilled workers, will permit individuals to engage in teleworking activities within Japan for a duration of up to six months. This move aims to appeal to a diverse range of professionals, including IT workers, owners of consulting companies abroad, and content creators such as YouTubers who generate advertising revenue from overseas companies. The current visa options for short-term stays in Japan typically cater to tourists, allowing a maximum stay of 90 days without work authorization. The proposed system, however, recognizes the evolving nature of work in the digital age and aims to provide a more extended and flexible stay for eligible individuals. Eligibility Criteria: To qualify for the new residency visa, applicants must meet specific criteria. They should have an annual income equivalent to 10 million yen ($68,000) or more, representing a focus on attracting individuals with higher earning potential. Additionally, applicants must be citizens of one of the 50 countries and regions that have visa waiver agreements with Japan. This reflects Japan's commitment to fostering international collaborations and partnerships. Furthermore, applicants must possess private health insurance, emphasizing the importance of healthcare coverage during their stay in Japan. Self-employed individuals can also apply for the new status, provided they conduct business that generates revenue from overseas. These entrepreneurs will have the option to bring family members along, who must also be covered by private health insurance. Public Input and Launch Timeline: In a transparent approach, the Immigration Services Agency plans to gather public opinions on the proposed program starting this Saturday. This inclusive strategy seeks to incorporate diverse perspectives and fine-tune the details of the initiative before its official launch. The agency aims to implement the program by the end of March, signaling Japan's commitment to staying ahead in adapting to the changing global landscape of work. The Rise of Digital Nomadism: The introduction of this new residency visa aligns with the global surge in digital nomadism, a trend accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. With approximately 35 million digital nomads currently navigating the remote work landscape, Japan recognizes the potential economic and cultural benefits of attracting this dynamic demographic. Japan's move to introduce a six-month residency visa for digital nomads reflects a forward-thinking approach to workforce trends in the digital era. By embracing the flexibility of remote work, the country aims to position itself as an attractive destination for global professionals seeking both professional opportunities and enriching cultural experiences. As the program unfolds, it is expected to contribute to Japan's global connectivity and economic growth while fostering a diverse and vibrant community of digital nomads. Read the full article

i woke up, went on tumblr.com like one does, and the first thing i see is “to you, with love” reblogged for me.
so i closed the app. screamed a bit into a pillow. and came back to write this.
THE THING IS.. i read that work, im pretty sure i even left an ask but it was more shy, timid (?)in a sense - “thank u, this was beautiful ,i cried.”cuz i was overwhelmed lol <- the lol is to make is seem more causal as if my heart didnt feel like it was punched ^^
but i remember vividly going through heeseung hashtag and seeing this for the first time.. and the title was cute, i was like “oh fluff”. i had not read the genre or warnings notes before diving into it….
so u can imagine my reaction to this sentence…
“however, heeseung’s death changed that for you.” BTW  ofc the best time to read angst its dead into the night with taylor swift playing on my headphones :>
if i remember correctly, you deleted it (?) and then posted it again? i read it the very first time it was uploaded. this might have been a changing point cuz i didn't read angst.. not in it full potential like that before this and know im knees deep
i finished reading it. and time kinda froze. the concept of hearing the voice of the love of your life. when things were good, were fine. i wept. BUT hearing them talk about what future could hold for both of u? knowing what u know now? literally curled with my phone in my hand and bawled my eyes out
promises… the forever heartbreaking factor of life.. what are they? meant to be broken or kept.. maybe neither.. i hate them… they give false hope for those who long and yearn to be reassure and make u believe that a single person could hold such a power over the universe… well, heeseung certainly couldn't.. no matter how genuinely his heart was beating while he said “forever”
wow, im in my feels again, i just loved it, truly loved it and cherished it for so long, in my own little world with spiraling thoughts about this,
thank u thank u thank u  thank u!!!!!!!!!!! ur works mean the world to me
im sorry for making u sad with my ask, but i cant help it :] u made me feel too much !!!!!!!!!!
i loved the poem. the flashbacks from the fic hit me like a truck. whats ur favorite poem? ^^ i would love to read some if u have a recommendation
thanks for the little career stuff note, i appreciate it a lot truly
thank u in general, ure the coolest writer,  love u too
ps. hee angst ?? i might die tho
                                               - > swift anonie ♡♡♡
ANON MAY I INTEREST YOU IN ANOTHER THOUGHT I HAD . about 'to you, my love' being set after 'if lovesick was a person' 😁😁 IT FITS SO WELL im so devastated actually . and that's why they tell u to read the warnings but who am i to say bc i straight up jump to the content ( i like surprises ) also i didn't delete it, my brother deleted my whole acc before i remade under the same user and reposted it 😭 oh but im so honoured that was the beginning of your angst reading arc, you should not be missing out on such a genre
and ur thoughts on promises, umm i can't say you're all wrong but i think they can serve as a driving force to do something? like some sort of motivation, or a reason idk . obvs, not saying that empty promises should be made. actually i dont have any opinion here, head empty. please never apologise for sending sad asks or wtv, i enjoy reading ur thought processes ure really really cool 🫵💗 as for poem recs hmm; i wandered lonely as a cloud by willian wordsworth, cadabianca by felicia dorothea hemans, la belle dame sams merci by john keats, rain before dawn, on a play twice seen and marching streets by fitzgerlad ( anything by him and emily dickinson is worth reading ) that's all i have on the top of my head
and no, thank u for taking ur time to write these asks, you're even cooler than me fr ☝️
