The Cannonball Adderley Quintet In San Francico Featuring Nat Adderley Recorded Live At The Jazz Workshop コロナ自粛で聴き直し第二段。歴史的作品"Somethin' Else"(1958年3月9日)、"Kind of Blue"(1959年3月2日,4月22日)を録音、マイルス・デイヴィスのグループを離れた後に、キャノンボールが弟のナットらと再結成したクインテットのThe Jazz Workshopでのライヴを収録したものが本作です。 録音が、あまり良くなかった印象だったのですが、全くの誤解... 。ごめんなさい。 左右のチャンネル・セパレーション、奥行感、楽器の音色とバランス、申し分ありません。ドラムは割れんばかりの迫力です。 演奏は、先の二枚の名盤に影響されることのない全く別の世界で、これがキャノンボールのやりたかったジャズだったんだなぁって感じます。 キャノンボール全盛期のスタートラインに相応しく、その後に｢ソウル・ジャズ｣とか｢ファンキー・ジャズ｣と呼ばれる｢難解ではない明るく洗練されたブルージーさ｣の始まりを予感させ、会場との一体感や熱気まで伝えてくれます。彼は、スタジオではなくて、ライヴ・ミュージシャンなのだと思いますね。当時はライヴ盤と言うのは珍しかったようなので、クラブにいるような臨場感が受けたのだと想像します。大ヒットも頷ける素晴らしいアルバムです。 本作は1959年10月18,20日録音で、スーパーヒット"Mercy, Mercy, Mercy!"の1966年10月20日まで、7年間もクラブのライヴを中心に活躍し続けたわけです。勿論その後も1975年に脳梗塞で他界するまで、常に聴衆を楽しませると言う姿勢を貫き通しました。商人などと呼ばれたり疑問作もありますが、チャレンジャーでありジャズ・ライヴ・エンターテイナーであることで、ご愛嬌。 カートリッジの相性ですが、ライヴ感ならやっぱりShure SC35C、強さや管楽器の艶ならShure M44-7がお薦めですよ。 #Julian"Cannonball"Adderley (as) #NatAdderley (cor) #BobbyTimmons (p) #SamJones (b) #LouisHayes (ds) Produced By - #OrrinKeepnews Cover Produced And Designed By - #PaulBacon , #KenBraren , #HarrisLewine ,  Back-liner Photograph By - #WilliamClaxton Engineer - #ReiceHamel Mastered By - #JackMatthews ファンキー・ジャズの代名詞ティモンズはじめリズムセクションのノリも堪能して欲しいですね。 #jazz #fuzey #vinyl #jazzvinyl #vinylcollection #ジャズ #スイングジャーナル #レコード #stayhome https://www.instagram.com/p/B_1ESb8Jf7z/?igshid=rqciggac28i3

Barbra Streisand wore this fake lamb's wool, Rudi Gernreich ensemble for her Sept 1964 feature in Show Magazine titled: "Streisand: Gernreich: The This Minute Kids”. This thick lamb’s wool dress was belted to show off Streisand’s figure, and accented with a herringbone jacket with matching lining, a felt pillbox hat and thigh high suede boots. This look was titled “Who Needs Chincilla. This was Streisand’s first ever fashion shoot, by photographer William Claxton (1927-2008). Claxton fondly recalled in his memoir how his model wife Peggy helped Barbra learn how to pose on set. Rudi Gernreich (1922-1985) was one of the most fearless & Avant-Garde designers of his time. He introduced the thong, “monokini” (topless swimsuit), pantsuits for women and more. He had moved to LA and began his career after feeling Nazi Austria in 1938. As a former dancer, Gernreich was interested in liberating the body from the limitations of clothing. Flat feet were a design feature Gernreich emphasized, dressing his models barefoot or in sensible short-heeled or flat shoes. Today, his vintage designs sell for thousands of dollars.
