"NO LUMP PAYMENTS WILL BE ALLOWED," Toronto Globe. January 9, 1913. Page 9. ---- Workmen's Compensation Will be Carefully Arranged ---- RAILWAYS BY THEMSELVES ---- Farm Laborers Not to be Included as an Industrial Hazard - Sir William Explains Points in the Proposed Legislation. ---- Sir William Ralph Meredith at the workmen's compensation inquiry yesterday morning made it clear in two important details which way his recommendations would go. In the first place there will be no scheme that would give the right of lump sum payments. Even the administering board could not authorize it. The other is that railways will not be grouped with other industries, but that any scheme they may adopt will be in line with the general principles of the proposed act. Farm laborers for the time being will not be included as an industrial hazard.
The non-appearance of Mr. F. W. Hinsdale, chief auditor of the Industrial Commission of the State of Washington, altered Sir William's plans somewhat, and instead of taking evidence the time was given over to a general discussion of the proposed scheme.
Mr. Wegenast, for the Canadian Manufacturers' Association, told the Commissioner that the Ontario system would affect 400,000 people, and Sir William figured that the probable cost would be $250.000. Mr. Wegenast contended that the grant in Washington State was inadequate, that the Commission should be allowed to group the classes, and that the payroll should not be the only standard of indemnity.
Farmers Not Included In reply to a question by Sir William, it was conceded that farmers would not come under the act in the meantime, as this might impede the passing of the act through the Legislature. The Commissioner said that he was mindful of the positions occupied by persons employed on the farm, but it was not the same as an employee of a railway or a factory.
"What would the manufacturers think if legislation was recommended under which the employer should be obliged personally to pay the whole of the compensation?" Sir William asked Mr. Wegenast.
"Any reasonable compensation for negligence would not be objected to. but returns from this source should not go directly to the employee, but to the general fund," replied Mr. Wegenast.
"I suppose in the last analysis the proposed legislation will be a tax on the community. Of course the railways, for example, can look after themselves, but what of the producers of wheat and of silver?" continued Sir Willlam.
Mr. Hellmuth - "But in the case of railways the rates can always be checked and established by the Dominion Railway Board."
The Act in Danger. Sir William - Yes, but my experience has always been that such rates are invariably far above those which ordinary business conditions would alone compel. I want to say that if the manufacturers or the railways can form schemes of their own they will break down the act. The idea that I have is that the railways should be excluded from any group for the present:
"From the standpoint of expediency I agree with your Lordship, but on principle I disagree," interrupted Mr. Wegenast.
"Principle is nothing in this case, and expediency is everything. To accomplish anything definite we must be prepared to compromise."
The labor representatives did not agree with this announcement, and Mr. Hellmuth objected to the C.P. R. being placed in a group alone and paying into the fund to judge the effect in the prevention of accidents and the consequent adjustment of the assessments.
Early in the discussion Sir William declared: "This legislation is social; there is no disguising the fact. The very basis of it is to prevent the injured workman becoming a charge on the community. If this were not so one of the primary objects of the scheme would be defeated. If we allow compensation in a lump sum it might be squandered, and if that were permitted it would defeat our primary object."
He also intimated that there could be no legislation that would imply a guarantee upon the Province.
Mr. F. N. Kennin, Secretary of the Commission, stated last night that he had word that Mr. F. W. Hinsdale would be present at the hearing this morning, and his evidence would probably cover the entire day. The sitting will commence at 11 o'clock this morning in the Private Bills Committee room at the Parliament buildings.

I'm sorry, I know I've shared this once before but it is a beautiful piece of music. So evocative of the British countryside and harkens to a bygone era. This gives me so much peace and reflection while the world outside is grey and dreary.
If you have 15 minutes to sit and listen to it, please do. It is so beautiful, it brings me to tears. Makes me long for rainy spring days in lush, verdant river valleys. They'll come soon.

He rises and begins to round, He drops the silver chain of sound, Of many links without a break, In chirrup, whistle, slur and shake.
For singing till his heaven fills, 'Tis love of earth that he instils, And ever winging up and up, Our valley is his golden cup And he the wine which overflows to lift us with him as he goes.
Till lost on his aerial rings In light, and then the fancy sings.

Which concerto do you prefer?
Propaganda:
Paganini:
- Finale is fucking fire - slaps so hard that K-pop group BLACKPINK sampled it - composed by a guy who supposedly sold his soul to the devil, how is that not the most metal thing?
Vaughan Williams:
You will never know the epic highs and lows [of high school football] of The Lark Ascending! This is a masterpiece of storytelling. It's got everything - basis on a poem of the same name by George Meredith, adapted for violin and full orchestra after wwi, the subtitle 'a romance'. Absolute slay by Ralph here, what else can I say but give the relevant portion of the poem?
He rises and begins to round, He drops the silver chain of sound, Of many links without a break, In chirrup, whistle, slur and shake.
For singing till his heaven fills, 'Tis love of earth that he instils, And ever winging up and up, Our valley is his golden cup And he the wine which overflows to lift us with him as he goes.

Written by Michael Michaelian Directed by William Fruet
This week, we are at Riverview Hospital, and join a surgery in progress. One doctor is not thrilled by a younger doctor's advice to proceed carefully. The older doc, Dr. Lamar, is also not a fan of both the low-income patient or the Native American nationality of the younger man, John White Cloud. Soon, the surgery goes awry, and John calls Lamar a butcher, causing the older surgeon to revoke all of his privileges at that hospital.
Later, at a small home, a Native American Shaman is chanting and telling an ill man he can rise and walk, but he cannot. Shaman then says his time has come. He doesn't want to hear it and offers money. John shows up, he is the Shaman's grandson. Him and a young woman, Sasheena, leave to talk. Seems his family wanted him to follow in his grandfather's footsteps instead of going to med school. Sasheena is learning, instead.
They go to a ceremonial place and John notices an old Shaman's rattle, a symbol of the power over life and death. It shakes as he holds it and spirits moan. A vision shows him the healing power of the rattle.
Later, at the hospital room of the surgical patient, John arrives to check on him. Another doc says Lamar is going to be pissed he came and picks up the phone. John holds the rattle up, it shakes and flies into the air. The other doc screams in pain and has a gory aneurysm and dies. John grabs the rattle and tells the patient in bed he will be okay.
At Curious Goods, Micki asks Jack to cover as she visits a sick friend, Blair, in Riverview Hospital. Seems her friend has a rare lung cancer. Seems only 1% survive.
John is at the hospital and another doctor, Jeffries, tries to talk with him, telling him to stop upsetting Lamar. John won't listen, saying Lamar isn't really interested in patients, just money.
John comes in to check on Vera, a patient who shares a room with Blair. She says she's in pain, John says he'll talk to Lamar as the man walks in. Lamar says they have done all they can for Vera. John tries to talk to him, but he won't listen, and tells John after today he better not see him in the hospital again. John appeals to the nurse, but she sides with Lamar.
That night, John follows the nurse to a supply room, and she isn't happy to see him. John says she just dopes the patients up and holds up the rattle. It flies about and kills the nurse. He then holds it over Vera and chants, as Blair watches.
Next day, Vera is arguing with Lamar, saying she is well and leaving. She won't listen and packs her bag. She tells Blair to visit with Dr. White Cloud. Blair tells Micki what she saw. Micki tries to calm Blair, who then tells her about the dead nurse. Micki tells her she will look into it.
The old man who the Shaman couldn't cure is seen by John, who asks how much a cure would be worth to him. John says he wants a fully staffed clinic. The man thinks John is just like the rest, but John offers to prove it with another patient.
Micki tells Jack and Ryan about what's going on at Riverview. They all agree it sounds like a cursed item. Jack remembers something in the manifest. He finds an entry for the ceremonial rattle Lewis sold to someone named Spotted Owl. He is the tribal Shaman of the local Iroquois reservation. Jack says he'll go alone.
Jack visits Spotted Owl and says he wants to buy back the rattle to keep it safe in their vault, but Spotted Owl disagrees. He says it belongs to his tribe, but Jack worries in the wrong hands it isn't so benign. Spotted Owl knows Jack means well, but says the rattle is in a safe place. Jack says otherwise, and the old man says he will look into it himself.
Sasheena, Spotted Owl's granddaughter, walks Jack to his car and tells Jack about John, but has faith in her grandfather. Jack isn't so sure, and leaves. Sasheena and Spotted Owl go to where the rattle was kept and find it gone. Sasheena says John was there with her.
Later, at a ceremony, Spotted Owl calls to the sprits to give him a vision of guidance. He sees John at the hospital, with the rattle, following Lamar. He hears Lamar talk about a patient of his that will help change medicine. John slips into this young patient's room and uses the rattle to kill him. Spotted Owl is shocked by this.
At his clinic, John brings in a young boy with the same illness as the old man. John uses the now-powered up rattle on the boy to prove what he can do for the sick man.
Micki is trying to help Blair deal with the treatment she is undergoing, but Blair is desperate and wants to go to John for help.
Later, John walks the young boy, now healed, out of the hospital. The old man says he will be back and his accountants will be in touch. Ryan shows up and asks John about what Blair saw him do. John says he uses herbs and extracts, and was just chanting a mantra to calm his patient. He leaves.
At the store, Ryan tells Jack that the old man's chauffeur told him the boy he was was deathly ill when he entered John's clinic. And that old man Harrison is just as ill. Micki arrives with info from the hospital about the young patient's strange death. Jack connects all the dots, from dead people to cured patients. Jack says he has to go visit Spotted Owl again. Ryan is unsure why John would use a cursed item.
Sasheena is visiting John and asking him to return the rattle. He says he can do more good with it, saying Spotted Owl lied to her. But Sasheena isn't buying it, saying John has changed. She asks him to bring the rattle back and that their grandfather is preparing a ceremony to take the rattle's power away.
Micki is trying to talk with Lamar, but he isn't interested and cuts her off. Dr. Jeffries tells Micki that Lamar was served with a malpractice suit. Micki asks what happened, and Jeffries fills her in on the death and the feud between Lamar and John. He then tells her Blair is leaving for John's clinic. Micki rushes to talk sense into Blair, who won't listen. She tells Micki she's fighting for her life.
Spotted Owl tells Jack he was right about John having the rattle, but he won't risk Jack's life. He says he will work on getting the rattle back himself, and tells Jack to return tomorrow.
Later, John arrives but tells his grandfather he's keeping the rattle. Spotted Owl tells him he saw him kill with it. He tells him to return it or he will call on the spirits. John argues with him, then holds the rattle up to kill the old man, who does battle with the item, but to no avail. The rattle kills Spotted Owl. Sasheena watches and goes to he old man. John grabs the rattle and screams, but blames the old man for not listening.
At the clinic, John has cured the old man, who walks on his own. He asks John if he wants more than just a fully funded clinic. He leaves, and Lamar approaches John. He tells him the medical board is shutting John's clinic down. John almost hits the man, but stops, even though Lamar taunts him.
Micki, Ryan and Jack try to figure out what John will do next. Micki wonders if John will kill Lamar and then heal Blair. Jack tells her this is wrong, no matter how horrible a person Lamar is. But Micki says Blair is young, and should be worth more than an old bigot.
At the clinic, Blair begs John for help. John tells her to come back in a few days, and hints that Lamar may even be of help to her recovery. Later, at the hospital, Lamar is grabbed by John.
Jack, Micki and Ryan go to Spotted Owl's home, but Sasheena tells them her grandfather is dead. She asks Jack to help her awaken the spirits of her ancestors to stop John, who has tied up Lamar and is torturing him first.
Sasheena takes the trio to the burial cave of the Shaman, and they all head inside. They find this is where John has Lamar, and Sasheena says John is trying to purify himself. She tells them they have to proceed the right way and calls to the spirits to stop White Cloud. The spirits appear and tell John he has to return with them. He vanishes, leaving the rattle behind. Which Micki picks up, then goes to comfort Sasheena as Jack and Ryan untie Lamar.
Another day, Micki is wandering in the store. Ryan arrives and tells Jack he watched Sasheena put the rattle back into the burial cave. He thinks it should be in the vault, but Jack says it isn't theirs, and is sure Sasheena and the spirits will guard it. Ryan asks how Lamar is, Jack says fine. Micki thinks it is unfair that Blair is still going to die and Lamar is fine. Jack tries to comfort her. We see Blair arrive at the closed clinic, looking hopeless.
My thoughts:
A good episode, with a different type of antique.
I like how most here all want to do the right thing, but go about it all wrong. Lamar is a good doctor, but mainly for the acclaim and esteem that brings to him. John wants to heal, but then has no problem killing others to kill those he wants to heal. Vera, Blair, the old man, all want to be well without knowing how. And even Micki herself treads a dangerous line when comparing Blair's life to Lamar's. Quite a lot of moral quandaries.
I like how good our trio has gotten about figuring out the curses and how to approach the prospect of getting them back without causing more deaths.
The deaths caused by the rattle are intense. I liked how Micki described the nurse's death as way less gruesome than it actually was.
I also liked how Spotted Owl and the other spirits stopped John, not by going after the rattle a second time, but just removing John from the equation. No John, then the rattle is just lying there.
Also interesting that Jack lets or rather accepts Sasheena keeping the rattle in the cave. I can see Ryan's worry, but Jack is right, I guess. Not their place to just take it.
Very sad end, with Blair just finding her last hope gone. Big downer.
Next week: The Prisoner

Hey, Oneshots will be made here in the next few days/weeks/months. No relationships have been entered yet, but that will change. Reader/character one-shots will be created here. You write me your wishes in the comments, which character it may be, maybe some other points on which I should orientate myself. BUT we will proceed alphabetically, I write more than 26 one-shots, but when we are at B, no more characters with A can be chosen. (Depends on the first name) Even if we are still at A, for example, there was a one-shot with Adam, Aaron (since D comes after A) can no longer be chosen. (I hope that sounds reasonably logical) I have already selected some fandoms above, but you are still welcome to try to bring in other fandoms (although it's a matter of luck whether I know my way around xD) The chapters are named after the people the reader will meet. I will mainly portray the reader as a female person (please note if you wish otherwise.) Have fun while reading.

SHEILA MACRAE
September 24, 1921
Tumblr media
Sheila Margaret Stephens was born in London in 1921, but evacuated with her parents to Long Island, New York, in 1939, shortly before the onset of World War II. She became a naturalized US citizen in March 1959.
Tumblr media
In 1941, she married actor and singer Gordon MacRae. They often appeared on the stage together. They were the parents of two daughters, actresses Heather and Meredith MacRae, and two sons, William Gordon MacRae and Robert Bruce MacRae. The couple divorced in 1967.
Tumblr media
Using her maiden name, Sheila made her screen debut in her husband’s film Backfire in 1950. It was quickly followed by three more 1950 films: Caged, Pretty Baby, and Katie Did It.
Tumblr media
Her TV debut came in February 23, 1953 with “The Romantic Type, an installment of NBC’s “Hollywood Opening Night” anthology series hosted by Jimmy Fidler.
Tumblr media
Two months later, in April 1953, she appeared on “The Jackie Gleason Show” as a guest. On that same show, Gleason did a “Honeymooners” sketch starring Audrey Meadows as Alice Kramden. Little did MacRae know then that she would take over the role in 1966 and play her until 1970. Coincidentally, the episode where she made her “Honeymooners” debut also featured Pert Kelton as Alice’s Mother. Kelton originated the role of Alice Kramden in 1951, before “The Honeymooners” was made into a series. In January 1954, Gordon MacRae was guest host for “The Jackie Gleason Show” while Gleason was on vacation and invited his Sheila on as a special guest.
All of MacRae’s color “Honeymooner” co-stars eventually worked with Lucille Ball:
Tumblr media
Jackie Gleason (Ralph Kramden) ~ Did a cameo as Ralph Kramden on the second episode of “Here’s Lucy” in 1968. He also played opposite Ball in “Three for Two” in 1975.
Tumblr media
Art Carney (Ed Norton) ~ Did two Lucille Ball Specials: “Happy Anniversary and Goodbye” (1974) and “What Now, Catherine Curtis?” (1976).
Tumblr media
Jane Kean (Trixie Norton) ~ Guest starred in a 1966 episode of “The Lucy Show” titled “Lucy and the Soap Opera” (TLS S4;E19).
Tumblr media
On September 29, 1954, Sheila and Gordon MacRae and Lucy and Desi Arnaz were on the red carpet for the star-studded premiere of the film A Star Is Born. Live television interviews from the Pantages Theatre later appeared as bonus material for the film’s DVD.
Tumblr media
Two months later she filmed “The Fashion Show” (ILL S4;E20) playing herself opposite fashion designer Don Loper. On the show and in real life, MacRae was a founding member of S.H.A.R.E., a charitable organization formed by wives of Hollywood celebrities. Although she organizes the charity fashion show for Loper, MacRae does not participate in it.
Tumblr media
MacRae and Ball did not appear on the same program again until 1966 with “Jackie Gleason’s 51st Birthday Celebration”.
In 1967 MacRae married Ronald Wayne, a television producer who also worked extensively with Gleason.
Tumblr media
MacRae’s last dramatic screen role was on an April 1993 episode of “Murder She Wrote” starring Angela Lansbury and featuring Neil Patrick Harris.
MacRae died suddenly in March 2014 in Englewood, New Jersey, aged 92, at the Lillian Booth Actor's Home.

i love... how flash loves.......... (homoerotic) poetry (He’s Gay)
obviously we know about the strongest canon example of this specific thing which is “The Archaic Torso of Apollo” by Rainer Maria Rilke, which Flash quotes the final line of
We cannot know his legendary head with eyes like ripening fruit. And yet his torso is still suffused with brilliance from inside, like a lamp, in which his gaze, now turned to low,
gleams in all its power. Otherwise the curved breast could not dazzle you so, nor could a smile run through the placid hips and thighs to that dark center where procreation flared.
Otherwise this stone would seem defaced beneath the translucent cascade of the shoulders and would not glisten like a wild beast's fur:
would not, from all the borders of itself, burst like a star: for here there is no place that does not see you. You must change your life.
Tumblr media
(and presumably other similarly gay-ass--i mean....devout--poems by Rilke)
There’s also a quote from a letter by Ralph Waldo Emerson to his daughter, in the final issue of Remender’s Agent Venom run--Emerson’s poetry has a kind of... stilted style which I PERSONALLY am not a fan of and it is very different from Rilke, but hey, a gay football player can have varied tastes. But also, he didn’t exactly quote an Emerson poem...
I don’t care about Emerson anyway I’m here to talk about my poetry headcanons for Flash mostly in the context of fanfiction I GUESS.
Not just homoerotic. I know that’s how I started this post but my intent was just poetry in general.
Copy-pasting from my notes for a particular timeline:
An analysis based on literally like one poem:
Flash seems to have a preference for poetry that is mildly abstract and descriptive, somewhere between literal and figurative. The style itself seems variable though. Emerson cuts his lines fairly tightly and with a specific structure and rhyme (not always—"Teach me I am forgotten by the dead" has a looser style without rhyme) while Rilke's "Archaic Torso..." specifically flows through lines and is cut partway through sentences without any rhyming scheme. [note I didn’t go looking thru rilke’s other work for this] Emerson is still willing to break grammar in things like using "builded" instead of "built," even if his punctuation and clauses are usually much more contained than Rilke's stream-of-words broken clauses.
Though that could be era specific. I only skimmed.
But from there, a while ago, I ended up going through some poets both contemporary to Rilke (or thereabouts)
But like.
No question, Dylan Thomas.
And NOT just because of the poem to his dying father. Everyone knows that one. Do not go gently in that good night blah blah
He just has those vibes, that flow, you know????
This one in particular caught my eye the strongest.
“My hero bares his nerves” is I THINK about Jesus and also pretty homoerotic imo
My hero bares his nerves along my wrist That rules from wrist to shoulder, Unpacks the head that, like a sleepy ghost, Leans on my mortal ruler,
The proud spine spurning turn and twist. And these poor nerves so wired to the skull Ache on the lovelorn paper I hug to love with my unruly scrawl That utters all love hunger And tells the page the empty ill.
My hero bares my side and sees his heart Tread, like a naked Venus, The beach of flesh, and wind her bloodred plait; Stripping my loin of promise, He promises a secret heat.
He holds the wire from the box of nerves Praising the mortal error Of birth and death, the two sad knaves of thieves, And the hunger's emperor; He pulls the chain, the cistern moves.
anyway, spider-man
But also here are some selected small snips from other Dylan Thomas poems: (with links so you can go read the whole ones if you like)
"Our eunuch dreams"
This is the world; the lying likeness of Our strips of stuff that tatter as we move Loving and being loth; The dream that kicks the buried from their sack And lets their trash be honoured as the quick. This is the world. Have faith.
"I see the boys of summer"
I am the man your father was. We are the sons of flint and pitch. O see the poles are kissing as they cross.
like i said, he’s got vibes, and judging by the One (1) poem Flash has ever quoted, it’s vibes that work for him.
anyway onward
Kinda in line with how clipped Emerson's poetry is (even though flash only quoted a letter and not a poem), I wouldn't be surprised if Flash liked Emily Dickinson—and she's skilled; her poems are easy to read and flow well. Emerson in comparison is sometimes hard to read.
At least for me.
Maybe I just like Emily Dickinson.
But listen.
Easy to read and depressed (and sometimes kinda gay but shhh) is a good choice for Flash.
I don’t really have a good specific example--she wrote a pretty sizeable chunk of work after all--but I think I like this one--
“I measure every grief I meet (561)”
(this is only a section of it)
The Grieved – are many – I am told –   There is the various Cause –   Death – is but one – and comes but once –   And only nails the eyes –
There's Grief of Want – and grief of Cold –   A sort they call "Despair" –   There's Banishment from native Eyes – In sight of Native Air –
And though I may not guess the kind –   Correctly – yet to me A piercing Comfort it affords In passing Calvary –
To note the fashions – of the Cross –   And how they're mostly worn –   Still fascinated to presume That Some – are like my own –
The last part in particular.... I think fits.
Some slightly more modern poets (ranging from mid century to like, actually contemporary) that would work well are I think
William Meredith
“Starlight”
Going abruptly into a starry night It is ignorance we blink from, dark, unhoused; There is a gaze of animal delight Before the human vision. Then, aroused To nebulous danger, we may look for easy stars, Orion and the Dipper; but they are not ours,
These learned fields. Dark and ignorant, Unable to see here what our forebears saw, We keep some fear of random firmament Vestigial in us. And we think, Ah, If I had lived then, when these stories were made up, I Could have found more likely pictures in haphazard sky.
But this is not so. Indeed, we have proved fools When it comes to myths and images. A few Old bestiaries, pantheons and tools Translated to the heavens years ago— Scales and hunter, goat and horologe—are all That save us when, time and again, our systems fall.
And what would we do, given a fresh sky And our dearth of image? Our fears, our few beliefs Do not have shapes. They are like that astral way We have called milky, vague stars and star-reefs That were shapeless even to the fecund eye of myth— Surely these are no forms to start a zodiac with.
To keep the sky free of luxurious shapes Is an occupation for most of us, the mind Free of luxurious thoughts. If we choose to escape, What venial constellations will unwind Around a point of light, and then cannot be found Another night or by another man or from other ground.
As for me, I would find faces there, Or perhaps one face I have long taken for guide; Far-fetched, maybe, like Cygnus, but as fair, And a constellation anyone could read Once it was pointed out; an enlightenment of night, The way the pronoun you will turn dark verses bright.
And I think...
Marilyn Hacker is like a LOT more modern (still alive!) but I can also see some version of Flash (in college) curious and wondering about things finding a poet like her and being drawn to her flow and the casual feeling. I believe.... she is a lesbian and was married to a gay guy.
“On Marriage”
Epithalamion? Not too long back I was being ironic about “wives.” It’s very well to say, creation thrives on contradiction, but that’s a fast track shifted precipitately into. Tacky, some might say, and look mildly appalled. On the whole, it’s one I’m likely to be called on. Explain yourself or face the music, Hack. No law books frame terms of this covenant. It’s choice that’s asymptotic to a goal, which means that we must choose, and choose, and choose momently, daily. This moment my whole trajectory’s toward you, and it’s not losing momentum. Call it anything we want.
I like this one
Aside from those I think you could probably get into things like Elizabeth Bishop or Jack Spicer...
Dylan Thomas is my strongest choice though, out of all of the above.

I have a list of ~900 albums from 2019 that I still want to eventually listen to / review [IMPOSSIBLE PROJECT ALERT]
For this project (already 125+ releases deep), which is just impossibly daunting and makes me head hurt. IDK how to streamline this process or is any “critic” out there really listening to “all” the good music? It’s impossible I guess... BUT needless to say, these have made this list from an even larger pool of music that I either listened to briefly and immediately dismissed or (gasp!) never even came across my radar (radar = many many music blogs I follow via RSS).
Anyway, because I’ll most likely never get to this (whatever this is, an Xgau parody or something)... Here is the list (please ignore some of my notations/typos):

Sorry about how long this is
Bojack - Joe Walker (also considering Brian Holden though because I think he seems more like he could be a sitcom dad)
Diane - Sango Tajima
Mr. Peanutbutter - Jeff Blim (he's a big happy-go-lucky dog man and it would be neat to see more of him playing against type)
Princess Carolyn - Rachael Soglin
Todd - Joe Moses
Sarah Lynn - Denise Donovan (or Lauren but I really wanted her as Beatrice because I think she has the right kind of coldness)
Herb - Joey Richter
Charlotte - Julia Albain
Beatrice - Lauren Lopez (but she's also Vincent Adultman)
All of the Patton Oswalt roles - Jon Matteson
Wanda - Meredith Stepien
Stefani - Jaime Lyn Beatty
Ralph - Dylan Saunders (also maybe Hank Hippopopolous because I like him as a villain)
Jonah - Jim Povolo (I could also see him as Meowmeow Fuzzyface)
Penny - Mariah Rose Faith

Hollyhock - Ali Gordon
Pickles - Tiffany Williams
A Ryan Seacrest Type - Tyler Brunsman

As names of the victims of jihad who died on September 11, 2001 were read out on Wednesday morning in New York, it occurred to me that a crucial aspect of remembering the tragedy was missing.
There was no mention of the evil that struck us that day and has continued to hit us wherever liberal secular democracy exists, be it on 7/7 in London or 26/11 in Mumbai, or for that matter Kabul, Bali, Madrid, Paris, Damascus, and right here in Ottawa and Toronto.
If aliens were to drop by to watch the ceremony, they would get the impression that we were not commemorating the anniversary of an attack, but some catastrophic natural disaster such as the 1883 eruption of the Krakatoa volcano in Indonesia or the 1775 Lisbon earthquake.
It seems that from the centre-right to the centre-left, no one in the West dares to utter the ideology that nurtures our enemies, let alone develop a determination to defeat them.
Some have tried to eradicate the malaria of jihadi terrorism by shooting down individual mosquitoes, but as anyone who has fought that disease knows, one can only defeat malaria by draining the swamps. Invasions of Iraq, Libya and Afghanistan to eliminate Al Qaeda, the Taliban and the Islamic State have all failed because the "war against terror" became a profitable venture for America's military-industrial complex.
Pakistan, the country that nurtured the mastermind of 9/11, Khaled Sheikh Muhammad, and hosted Al-Qaeda head Osama bin Laden, escaped all scrutiny as its wily diplomats ran circles of deceit around Western governments while corrupt jihadi generals profited immensely and still do. In the meantime, our allies in India and Afghanistan suffer as they are used as laboratories where dozens of jihadi groups practice holy war, which is then exported from Mindanao in The Philippines, to California on the Pacific and Nigeria and Somalia in between.
Canadian newspapers too had little to say on the 9/11 anniversary, notwithstanding our own recent skirmishes with jihadis. At times we have even rewarded them, then allowed 'former' jihadis to 'deradicalize' them. Both must be laughing at us.
I scoured the New York Times story on the 9/11 anniversary for words like 'Al Qaeda', 'Bin Laden', 'jihad', 'Taliban', 'Khaled Sheikh Muhammad' and even 'Arab' or 'Saudi,' but found no mention. It seemed the liberal media dares not to mention the enemy for fear it may be labelled 'racist' and 'Islamophobic'.
While the West is in disarray with Trump, Boris Johnson and Macron fulfilling the role of the Three Stooges on the world stage, Islamists keep up a barrage of propaganda positioning the Muslim community as victims of what they see as essentially hostile Western society.
Even as Canadians prepare to vote in the 2019 October elections, not a single political party has raised the issue of how it will tackle the rise of Islamist terrorism worldwide. Not one. There was a time when a prime minister had the courage to name 'Islamism' as a worldwide threat, but not his successor in Sussex Drive nor the man who leads his party.
And while they were reading the names in New York of the women and men who perished as victims of jihad on 9/11, no one in Canada cared for our Canadian brothers and sisters who died that day. As a courtesy to the voiceless, here are the names of the forgotten 27:
Michael Arczynski Garnet Bailey Ken Basnicki David Barkway Jane Beatty Cynthia Connolly Joseph Collison Frank Joseph Doyle Arron Dack Albert Elmarry Michael Egan Christine Egan Meredith Ewart Alexander Filipov Peter Feidelberg Ralph Gerhardt LeRoy Homer Mark Ludvigsen Stuart Lee Bernard Mascarenhas Colin McArthur Michael Pelletier Donald Robson Ruffino Santos Vladimir Tomasevic Chantal Vincelli Debbie Williams
Their blood is on the hands of those who engineered 9/11. Until they are defeated, we should not rest.
