PSA, if you've attended any of the following universities from 2004-2024 as an undergraduate and received any need-based financial aid, you're entitled to submit a claim in a class-action lawsuit that could get you $2000.00 by filling out a 15-minute form online:
Brown University, California Institute of Technology, University of Chicago, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Duke University, Emory University, Georgetown University, Johns Hopkins University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Northwestern University, University of Notre Dame, University of Pennsylvania, William Marsh Rice University, Vanderbilt University, or Yale University
All the information is posted online on their website here:
To be clear, if you received *any* need-based financial aid from these universities from 2004-2024, you're entitled to file a claim. They estimate that, if every applicable claimant submits a claim, that the average payout will be $2000.00. But if not everyone submits a claim, that number could be even higher, and I personally find it unlikely that all 200,000 affected people will submit a claim in time. Idk I'm not an attorney in this lawsuit, I'm just regurgitating information in the hopes that someone who wasn't aware of this will see if and maybe get a few thousand bucks out of it
These motherfuckers take so much from so many people, and if you have the capacity to take anything back from them, I *strongly* encourage you to do so - especially given that it's such a quick process!

The Rice quad right now
Tumblr media
This is a photo from after 10pm, so the fact that it came out this well is surprising. But you can see that the Rice quad is competely ruined, and is closed completely during the school year, despite being the center of campus.
Why?
Woke students demanded the removal of the statue of the university's founder William Marsh Rice, which also contained his ashes. His remains have been moved to a local cemetery and his statue will be moved somewhere else on campus.
And for some reason the administration had to destroy and close the beautiful quad. While school is in session.

Atomic dance gives rise to a magnet - Technology Org
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Quantum materials are key to a future of lightning-speed, energy-efficient information systems. The problem with tapping their transformative potential is that, in solids, the vast number of atoms often drowns out the exotic quantum properties electrons carry.
[embedded content]
Rice University researchers in the lab of quantum materials scientist Hanyu Zhu found that when they move in circles, atoms can also work wonders: When the atomic lattice in a rare-earth crystal becomes animated with a corkscrew-shaped vibration known as a chiral phonon, the crystal is transformed into a magnet.
According to a study published in Science, exposing cerium fluoride to ultrafast pulses of light sends its atoms into a dance that momentarily enlists the spins of electrons, causing them to align with the atomic rotation. This alignment would otherwise require a powerful magnetic field to activate, since cerium fluoride is naturally paramagnetic with randomly oriented spins even at zero temperature.
“Each electron possesses a magnetic spin that acts like a tiny compass needle embedded in the material, reacting to the local magnetic field,” said Rice materials scientist and co-author Boris Yakobson. “Chirality ⎯ also called handedness because of how left and right hands mirror each other without being superimposable ⎯ should not affect the energies of the electrons’ spin. But in this instance, the chiral movement of the atomic lattice polarizes the spins inside the material as if a large magnetic field were applied.”
Though short-lived, the force that aligns the spins outlasts the duration of the light pulse by a significant margin. Since atoms only rotate in particular frequencies and move for a longer time at lower temperatures, additional frequency- and temperature-dependent measurements further confirm that magnetization occurs as a result of the atoms’ collective chiral dance.
“The effect of atomic motion on electrons is surprising because electrons are so much lighter and faster than atoms,” said Zhu, Rice’s William Marsh Rice Chair and an assistant professor of materials science and nanoengineering. “Electrons can usually adapt to a new atomic position immediately, forgetting their prior trajectory. Material properties would remain unchanged if atoms went clockwise or counterclockwise, i.e., traveled forward or backward in time ⎯ a phenomenon that physicists refer to as time-reversal symmetry.”
The idea that the collective motion of atoms breaks time-reversal symmetry is relatively recent. Chiral phonons have now been experimentally demonstrated in a few different materials, but exactly how they impact material properties is not well understood.
“We wanted to quantitatively measure the effect of chiral phonons on a material’s electrical, optical and magnetic properties,” Zhu said. “Because spin refers to electrons’ rotation while phonons describe atomic rotation, there is a naive expectation that the two might talk with each other. So we decided to focus on a fascinating phenomenon called spin-phonon coupling.”
Spin-phonon coupling plays an important part in real-world applications like writing data on a hard disk. Earlier this year, Zhu’s group demonstrated a new instance of spin-phonon coupling in single molecular layers with atoms moving linearly and shaking spins.
In their new experiments, Zhu and the team members had to find a way to drive a lattice of atoms to move in a chiral fashion. This required both that they pick the right material and that they create light at the right frequency to send its atomic lattice aswirl with the help of theoretical computation from the collaborators.
“There is no off-the-shelf light source for our phonon frequencies at about 10 terahertz,” explained Jiaming Luo, an applied physics graduate student and the lead author of the study. “We created our light pulses by mixing intense infrared lights and twisting the electric field to ‘talk’ to the chiral phonons. Furthermore, we took another two infrared light pulses to monitor the spin and atomic motion, respectively.”
In addition to the insights into spin-phonon coupling derived from the research findings, the experimental design and setup will help inform future research on magnetic and quantum materials.
“We hope that quantitatively measuring the magnetic field from chiral phonons can help us develop experiment protocols to study novel physics in dynamic materials,” Zhu said. “Our goal is to engineer materials that do not exist in nature through external fields ⎯ such as light or quantum fluctuations.”

Tumblr media
Are you get bored and want to do something interesting things then this is the best and entertaining platform for you. Everyone Loves when anyone has a Question and the answer is just like a surprising way.
All couples boys and girls are enjoying it and also within a second you can find your result. In This 2021 All are get bored with their life but these days you can also keep your smile it's the best part of this text.
If you have time and want to spend your time getting an answer from Rice Purity Test. If you guess its name is rice purity test, then you are wrong dear this test is the name of a well-known person, William Marsh Rice and he is founder of rice purity test. That's, Why this test is called the rice purity test.
What is a Rice Purity Test?
Tumblr media
This test is started as a survey of 100 questions at Rice University, Houston, Texas. It is a self-survey that assesses the participants' supposed degree of innocence in matters such as sex, drugs, deceit, and other activities assumed to be vices.
What Does Rice Purity Score Mean?
Nowadays, Every website has its way of calculating the rice purity score. But, it’s mainly on a scale of 0 to 100, 100 being the best innocent person—and 0 being the lowest ones.
Real Purity 2021: When People who get the highest scores are the pure ones in this test. Usually, a score of more than 50 means you are not as bad you thought. But scores more than 80 are the real morally bad people.
A bit of Naughtiness: When people get Scores between 30 to 50 indicates that they’re a little bit evil type person. While you may not be that of a ruthless person, you still know what being immoral feels like.
Active Evil Within 2021: If a People score is less than 20, you have done some terrible fun things. (Just joking). Most adults who had a social life would score less than that. But it’s not always for a teenager to get such a high-grade Person. So, tone it down, guys.
Tumblr media
What is the innocence test?
The description of the text reads, "Fun fact (actually really, really sad fact), the Rice Purity Test was made in the '80s. that means that it includes none of the quintessential.
21st-century rebellious activities (think sexting, fake IDs, and tinder). Welcome to 2 best friends' re-imagining of the classic purity test, we hope you have as much fun as much as possible.
The Point of Taking the Purity Test of Rice
Honestly, there’s no real point. It’s a questionary to have fun. However, people use it for various purposes. (See below).
Just to know how naughty you are
Don’t you wonder who immoral you are? Do others believe that you’re a polite person while you don’t think so? Well, take the Rice Purity Test and prove it.
Show off
Are you proud of your weird and immoral experiences? Do you believe in being a bad boy/girl? That’s okay; our test can reveal how to disorient you are. It’s an excellent way to show off your impishness.
Joining Twitter trend
Twitter users are sharing their scores these days. And the Rice Purity Test is a trend right now. So, if you want to join the trend and share YOUR pureness with others, take the quiz right now. QuizExpo lets you share the results directly to your Twitter feed.

Reactor turns greenhouse gas into pure liquid fuel
A common greenhouse gas could be repurposed in an efficient and environmentally friendly way with an electrolyzer that uses renewable electricity to produce pure liquid fuels.
Tumblr media
The catalytic reactor developed by the Rice University lab of chemical and biomolecular engineer Haotian Wang uses carbon dioxide as its feedstock and, in its latest prototype, produces highly purified and high concentrations of formic acid.
Formic acid produced by traditional carbon dioxide devices needs costly and energy-intensive purification steps, Wang said. The direct production of pure formic acid solutions will help to promote commercial carbon dioxide conversion technologies.
The method is detailed in Nature Energy.
Wang, who joined Rice's Brown School of Engineering in January, and his group pursue technologies that turn greenhouse gases into useful products. In tests, the new electrocatalyst reached an energy conversion efficiency of about 42%. That means nearly half of the electrical energy can be stored in formic acid as liquid fuel.
"Formic acid is an energy carrier," Wang said. "It's a fuel-cell fuel that can generate electricity and emit carbon dioxide -- which you can grab and recycle again.
"It's also fundamental in the chemical engineering industry as a feedstock for other chemicals, and a storage material for hydrogen that can hold nearly 1,000 times the energy of the same volume of hydrogen gas, which is difficult to compress," he said. "That's currently a big challenge for hydrogen fuel-cell cars."
Two advances made the new device possible, said lead author and Rice postdoctoral researcher Chuan Xia. The first was his development of a robust, two-dimensional bismuth catalyst and the second a solid-state electrolyte that eliminates the need for salt as part of the reaction.
"Bismuth is a very heavy atom, compared to transition metals like copper, iron or cobalt," Wang said. "Its mobility is much lower, particularly under reaction conditions. So that stabilizes the catalyst." He noted the reactor is structured to keep water from contacting the catalyst, which also helps preserve it.
Xia can make the nanomaterials in bulk. "Currently, people produce catalysts on the milligram or gram scales," he said. "We developed a way to produce them at the kilogram scale. That will make our process easier to scale up for industry."
The polymer-based solid electrolyte is coated with sulfonic acid ligands to conduct positive charge or amino functional groups to conduct negative ions. "Usually people reduce carbon dioxide in a traditional liquid electrolyte like salty water," Wang said. "You want the electricity to be conducted, but pure water-electrolyte is too resistant. You need to add salts like sodium chloride or potassium bicarbonate so that ions can move freely in water.
"But when you generate formic acid that way, it mixes with the salts," he said. "For a majority of applications, you have to remove the salts from the end product, which takes a lot of energy and cost. So we employed solid electrolytes that conduct protons and can be made of insoluble polymers or inorganic compounds, eliminating the need for salts."
The rate at which water flows through the product chamber determines the concentration of the solution. Slow throughput with the current setup produces a solution that is nearly 30% formic acid by weight, while faster flows allow the concentration to be customized. The researchers expect to achieve higher concentrations from next-generation reactors that accept gas flow to bring out pure formic acid vapors.
The Rice lab worked with Brookhaven National Laboratory to view the process in progress. "X-ray absorption spectroscopy, a powerful technique available at the Inner Shell Spectroscopy (ISS) beamline at Brookhaven Lab's National Synchrotron Light Source II, enables us to probe the electronic structure of electrocatalysts in operando -- that is, during the actual chemical process," said co-author Eli Stavitski, lead beamline scientist at ISS. "In this work, we followed bismuth's oxidation states at different potentials and were able to identify the catalyst's active state during carbon dioxide reduction."
With its current reactor, the lab generated formic acid continuously for 100 hours with negligible degradation of the reactor's components, including the nanoscale catalysts. Wang suggested the reactor could be easily retooled to produce such higher-value products as acetic acid, ethanol or propanol fuels.
"The big picture is that carbon dioxide reduction is very important for its effect on global warming as well as for green chemical synthesis," Wang said. "If the electricity comes from renewable sources like the sun or wind, we can create a loop that turns carbon dioxide into something important without emitting more of it."
Co-authors are Rice graduate student Peng Zhu; graduate student Qiu Jiang and Husam Alshareef, a professor of material science and engineering, at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Saudi Arabia (KAUST); postdoctoral researcher Ying Pan of Harvard University; and staff scientist Wentao Liang of Northeastern University. Wang is the William Marsh Rice Trustee Assistant Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. Xia is a J. Evans Attwell-Welch Postdoctoral Fellow at Rice.
Rice and the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science User Facilities supported the research.

There’s there reason for calling it @riceuniversity. William Marsh Rice made his fortune in real estate, railroads and cotton trading. In 1891, Rice decided to charter a free-tuition educational institute in Houston, bearing his name, to be created upon his death. Rice's will specified the institution was to be "a competitive institution of the highest grade" and that only white students would be permitted to attend. The university was established in 1912 and thank god its not restricted to whites anymore. #houstontexas #travel #houston #traveler #travelgram #instatravel #usa #travelblogger #houstontx #texas #riceuniversity #visittexas #tx #htx #college #education #myhouston #downtown #history #college (at Rice University) https://www.instagram.com/vishal1mehra/p/Bu5NCDeAede/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1n3mqtdphab36
