Promise me, Elphaba had said. Her eyes had been so earnest, so desperate, so loving. Glinda would've done anything to keep them in her life.
I promise, Glinda had answered. I promise, Glinda had lied.
Because Glinda loves loved loves Elphaba more than anything or anyone in the entire world. But she doesn't know if she can do this. She doesn't know if she has the courage.
Out of the two of them, Glinda had never been the brave one.

Though I, can't stay with you. Oh I, won't stray away from the truth. I, remember your warmth. And I'm, still learning to love anew.

so when i first started fallout i figured out pretty early on that maximus and lucy were being set up for a romance arc (because come on. everybody could see it. they spent all of ep 2 making gooey eyes at each other). however i was INCREDIBLY paranoid about it because, frankly, i did not trust the writers to properly handle a clearly traumatized character with empathy and grace. I have too much experience with media & fans treating characters like maximus as villains for what their circumstances have pushed them into doing, and the way his actor masterfully codeswitched between sad puppy man and stone cold bitch whenever he visibly shut his emotions down had me thinking they would do him SOOO dirty.
but I was wrong!!! and I'm so glad I was. fallout gave maximus grace and compassion, they portrayed him (and lucy, and the ghoul, and moldaver, and basically everyone including somehow the dog) as complicated characters in a traumatizing world each approaching survival in different ways, and they showed his growth and development in a caring manner. do i think he got enough screentime? no. do i hope he gets more in s2? very much. but am I so glad that I was wrong about how the writers would treat him in terms of character development? absolutely

I have no real desire to get involved in ship wars (And really, this isn't about shipping), nor do I want to argue over what I would/wouldn't like to be canon. I stick to enjoying what I enjoy with fellow freaks on the internet and leave everyone else to it...
But I must admit, it's slightly disappointing to read some of the takes disguised as feminist when in reality, they are arguably quite harmful and seemingly rooted in misogyny which are being shared around.
Women being in love does not "cheapen" their stories.
Women can be powerful characters and still be in love.
A woman being in love does not make her weak or any less powerful.
Women can be fully-fledged, powerful and 'badass' characters and still be in love.
If you think a 'powerful' woman having a romantic relationship makes her weak, it kind of seems like because falling in love and romance are seen as feminine, you actually just think a woman's femininity makes her weak...
I really wish there could be an acceptance that women can be both strong, powerful, intelligent and in love. Women do not have to choose, in life or in fiction. And there is rarely the same attitude when it comes to male characters. I never see anyone say that being in love would make a strong, independent man weak.
Anyway, I personally think that female characters who have been through horrible things deserve a happy ending and it does not weaken them to allow them to have a romantic partner. Being strong is exhausting and having someone there when they need a break after a busy day of being a girlboss is totally understandable, healthy and acceptable.
In conclusion, let powerful women fall in love!!!

they wrote a tragedy and marketed it as the perfect happy ending, accidentally making it seem as though chuck won and perfectly setting themselves up for a sequel series. honestly who is doing it like them

Mythological Sun/Moon Light/Dark ETL ship that didn't happen/ended tragically and was not only disappointing but actively brought down or ruined one or both of the characters arc or the narrative themes entirely

sometimes i think about the dwarves from twisted wonderland and think, yea actually, i can get why gran's annoyed all the time
imagine you were born shorter than others because of your race, and people infantilize and look down on you because of it, i'd be frustrated as well.
and like, imagine, you'll always be seen as this cute little child, even though you're already a sophomore, and you'll probably always be perceived as one, even when you're an adult, because at the end of the day, all you'll ever be is an extension of someone else's image (neige) and you're whole entire identity revolves around them.
idk i just find the dwarfs to be interesting. like whats their life like outside of neige? do they have hobbies of their own? i'm sure they do enjoy performing with him, but is that all there is to it?? like, what if one of them just goes "hey singing and dancing is fun and all but i wanna pursue a career in archaeology"
probably the other dwarves are bothered by this too, but they care about neige a lot, so they don't really say anything

to be honest i liked the zonau more when they were a barely if ever mentioned mystery and a meme in the part of the fandom that watched theory videos
i know their designs are neat but i think their sudden introduction was pretty unnecessary and robbed us of more interesting concepts than it gave us new ones

i posted starline's intro for his first chapter so here's sonic's!! --
Sonic was sick often. It happened at random; sudden, brief illnesses that wracked his body and typically left within a day’s time. They most commonly manifested as headaches and nausea, but he was sometimes prone to chills and feverish symptoms as well. He dreaded the fevers more than anything else—they tended to last a bit longer, knocking him off his feet for days at a time. Since there was nothing he hated more than staying still, finding himself bedridden with a fever was always a nightmarish experience for him.
There was no definite cause for his condition. The only time he’d seen a doctor about it was when he was fourteen, after a three day-long spell of nausea made Amy so nervous that she consulted the resistance’s medic against his will. The medic had asked him a few questions about his past, felt his stomach and listened to his heart, and then expressed her professional opinion: Sonic wasn’t sick, just extremely anxious.
Psychosomatic was the term she’d used. Apparently, his brain was sick enough that it was making his body feel sick, too. It didn’t make a lot of sense to him. During Eggman’s occupation of the East Pacific islands, he’d never felt scared—only very, very angry.
Her diagnosis especially didn’t make sense now, a whole year after Sonic had found Tails on Cocoa Island and learned the truth behind Eggman’s success. The little fox had singlehandedly purged every potential source of stress from the world, freeing not just the two of them but every other animal on the planet, too. There was nothing left for Sonic to fear.
And yet, here he was, kneeling on the grass of a mountain’s crest as he tried not to throw up his breakfast. He’d come up here to watch the sunrise. Instead, he could only manage brief glimpses of the horizon as he was forced to close his eyes to concentrate on overcoming wave after wave of nausea.

Sometimes I love how vague SJM is with the rules of magic in her world, cause then it means I can say stuff like, Tamlin can create a forest made up entirely of oozing writhing flesh, and technically it can be canon.
Ofc, then this also comes with a price, I have to make all the rules myself for my fanfics, but that's it's own kind of fun.
It's a little bit difficult though with shapeshifters, cause it's really easy to accidently make them overpowered. Like I decided, shapeshifters could take any kind of living matter and turn it into any other kind of living matter.
But I also wanted to cull back the powerfulness of that kind of ability, because my main character (Tamlin's daughter) lost her arm, and it's a lot less impactful when, technically, she could shapeshift a new one.
So, on one hand, I could theoretically, make it so that you can't make new matter, you have to work with what you've got, and without enough flesh already attached to make a new arm, you just can't. There are two flaws with that to, one being how do they shapeshift into massive beasts, where are they harvesting the flesh for that, and secondly I want these people to be able to fuck around with their bodily autonomy for non-conforming gender related reasons, and how tf can someone shapeshift a dick of convenient size but not shapeshift a new arm.
So, I've come up with an idea, they can engorge matter, and push it until you have enough to, yk, make a beast, a new arm, a dick, but after a while, it just gets super uncomfy, because their body just starts to reject it. And if they force it to stay in one form for too long, their magic will just force them to return to normal, and its a super painful process.
But then I also get to thinking, what if the magic making the body react like this is a learned process because of shapeshifters that stayed in a new form for too long and went insane, and like idk, molded to the earth itself and lost complete control of their senses.
I'm thinkin somethin like this (art by Alex Kuhn )
