Hank Pym taught me that there are choices beyond programming! Janet Van Dyne, that there was beauty in the smallest of people. Pietro Maximoff, that if one's father is evil, it does not mean the child must be! Clint Barton, that there is no such thing as a powerless man! And Wanda, my dear Wanda... taught me that even an android can love!

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to Janani K Jha songs, bc why is everything she writes so AoS-coded?
Achilles Heel: Very self explanatory, I feel, a song about being the other's weakness, FitzSimmons
Thanatos (End of Us): Another romance song, being together even if it kills, so very Huntingbird (I think that's the ship name?)
Ms. Protagonist: The loss of innocence from childhood to adulthood, so very s1 Skye to s7 Daisy Johnson. Could also apply to Jemma over the seasons
Library Card: A song about growing up as a nerd? Jemma Simmons
Golden Age: Really could be any woman in the MCU, but since this is more about the hidden and misunderstood women of history, I feel like it's better suited to the "background characters" of S.H.I.E.L.D., for lack of a better word, such as Victoria Hand and Piper
Sunday Crossword: Philinda struggling to convey their feelings, slowly falling out of love and ending as friends
Machine Learning: Fitz. 100% Fitz, oh my god, it's so him. It's literally a song about not knowing how to socialize and always feeling like a robot
Three Specters: Daisy in season 5, feeling lost and thrust into a position of power with little preparation. The song specifically describes being haunted with past memories, which is so her in those moments
Prophecies: Technically a song dedicated to the artist's parents of how they sacrificed everything for her, Daisy's family dynamic w/Coulson and May
Two Roads: Honestly I had a hard time with this since it's about choosing between the safe path and the new one. I'm going with Mack always having to choose between his personal life and S.H.I.E.L.D., especially since he's always threatening to quit (and never does)
Rome (Outro): the collective trauma everyone had by the end of the season and finally taking time for themselves. The song is basically about calming down and taking it slow
Slow Burn: Being in a relationship that just consumes you in all the right ways, that makes the both of you better is so Dousy (OTP frfr)
The Maze: Stuck in a mental/physical maze that you struggle to get out of is perfect for the Framework arc
Hellbent: About literally going through hell, about agency. Melinda May, SPECIFICALLY after the situation in Bahrain
Gladiators: The team fighting any opponent, but the season 7 finale would fit best
Royal We: Staticquake. It's a song on toxic codependent relationships, and I am not loathe to admit (sorry Staticquake fans), that the way Lincoln's death leaves Daisy is quite close to what the song describes
The Siege: Deke Shaw, especially with how much shit the team they gave him later on (May could also apply to this, bc one of the lyrics is "and no cavalry will cave")
Weird Hills: Ward's betrayal on the team; the song is all about trusting someone who called themself a friend only to stab you in the back
Polyxena: A song about sacrifice and being used to further the story. Trip's death
The Judgement (I Think Too Much): The main lyric is "you think too much with your head and not enough with your heart", very Aida becoming Ophelia
Cut the Cord: While it's technically about "dreaming a release from validation" as Janani puts it, I also think this fits well with the whole prophecy subplot of s3b and Daisy trying to subvert it
Nike: Phil Coulson, how his death is always weaponized against him but everyone forgets about him all the other times
Library of Alexandria: the lost innocence of S1, Bus Kids and how we never see them happy following s1

Thanks for the tag @thecomfywriter!
Character Profile Tag
I kinda feel like answering for Avymere :)
Name:
Avymere Kalaphon Spearsong III
Nickname:
Avy (Elsind tried this once and it did not work out)
Kind of being:
Skysheerian elf
Age:
153 (equivalent to late 20s/early 30s)
Gender:
Fe'penche. Skysheer has a broader concept of gender than most human societies. Fe'penche basically means a nonbianary person who fills a traditionally female role in society. A politician, in this case.
Appearance:
Standing at about 5'6", Avymere is tan for a Skysheerian, which means deathly pale for a human. They have an athletic build, wear gold-rimmed glasses, and have a scar on their right ear. Their hair is snowy white and kept short. Their face is a bit hawkish. They dress in an elegant, feminine fashion. Actually, here's a picture!
Tumblr media
Occupation:
Avymere is their heir to the duchy of Salis. Their title is Duchon, and they will become Archduchon when their father, the Archduke, steps down. They also serve as their father's spymaster.
Family members:
Eluan Faltharin Spearsong IX (father)
Amarell Tethanven Spearsong I (deceased mother)
Pets:
Girl, they don't have time for that lol
Describe their room:
It hardly looks lived in. Avymere's room is a vast, marble space of gold accents and mahogany furniture. It's spotlessly clean and at the top of a tower, so it's got a massive window that looks out onto the nearby mountains. The only place with any clutter is their desk. This clutter is a diversion. All of their real paperwork is hidden under their bed, along with multiple weapons and a first aid case.
Way of speaking:
Incredibly formal. They're noble, and they talk like it, even in informal conversation. However, if need be, they can fake almost any accent or style of speech.
Physical characteristics (posture, gestures, attitudes):
Avymere is constantly on their guard. They never sit with their back to a door, always keep an eye on people's stance, and can focus on several streams of information at once. Their posture is royalty perfect. They also have an unconscious tendency to mirror people's accents and mannerisms.
Hobbies:
Talmel Valkys is an ancient elven martial art from when before Skysheer and Nabafyr were separate nations. Even though Skysheerian nobles tend to look down on physical arts, Avymere finds great solace in their practice. When they spar is the only time they get to be sort of a normal person.
Favorite sports:
I guess Talmel Valkys counts for this, too.
Abilities/talents/powers:
No magic for Avymere, sadly. They're the first Spearsong to be born without sorcery in a thousand years. They are a master spy and a top-tier fighter, though.
Relationships (interaction with others):
Despite coming off as exceptionally polite and charming in professional scenarios, Avymere is very stiff when it comes to close emotional relationships. They just don't have much experience in that realm. They could ask you out to lunch, but it'd sound more like a court summons.
Fears:
Given how their mother died, Avymere is very paranoid about assassination. More for their father sake than their own. They fear failing their people and losing loved ones. Also, they've kept up a facade around everyone for so long that they're terrified to be themself or show emotion in any true capacity.
Faults:
Avymere can be single-minded to a fault. They act as a leader even in situations they don't have the experience for because they've been trained to do so. Though they are compassionate, they have a very poor understanding of how the serfs of Skysheer live their life and have some definite unconscious prejudice. Not a good look for a noble.
Good points:
While their single-mindedness can be a detriment, it can also be a great asset. Avymere never gives up, never loses hope, and never backs down from a fight. They will sacrifice anything for the good of their people. On a smaller scale, they care deeply for their friends, and though they can be stiff and unnerving when they attempt to be heartfelt, they do try.
What they want more than anything else:
Avymere will give anything for the prosperity of their city. They hardly see themself as a person outside of their role as heir to Salis. They will kill, lie, and blackmail if it means the happiness of Salis's citizens.
I'll tag @ashen-crest @lavender-gloom @harleyacoincidence @pluppsauthor @vallkary and anyone else who wants to play :)

For the dark oc asks. I can't remember the name of Sid's bio mum who is now a vamp but her. 3, 4, 8, 9
Thank you for the ask!
Actually, it's Sid's aunt, Elizabeth Swanson Helen Straud!
Tumblr media
3. Has your OC killed a friend/family member/loved one?
None. Rather, she would kill for her family. Prior to having her memory "wiped out", the reason she agreed to be a vampire is to train under the Vatores and Straud and defeat the killer of her real family. The killer that was Percival Asvang. Things happened, and she wasn't able to avenge her family, as the vampires around her decided he gets to live, he won't be killed nor would he become a sacrifice to speed up Lenora's full recovery.
4. What appears in your OC's darkest nightmares?
As Elizabeth, prior to becoming a vampire, her nightmares are always her, reliving the slaughter of her family. Percival and her sisters moving as bats and mist in a dark stormy night, the vampires attacking their household staff, her parents, her beloved sister, until all that's left is the butler, and Sid.
Sometimes her nightmare would turn into something more sinister. The attacker is her.
These nightmares no longer happen when her memory was wiped clean.
8. Would your OC consider themself evil?
Again, as Elizabeth, she would. She left her only family, her niece, Sid, and she became the very thing she sought to destroy - a vampire.
9. Would you consider your OC evil?
No. She did what she thought was best. She did that to avenge her family and to protect her remaining family.

Hey! Mama of a very creative 11 year old girl! She wanted me to put her characters online in hopes of inspiring an artist or two! I told her to not hold her breath, but we both agree it's worth asking! Even if no one bites, she'd love some questions!
Welcome to New Hades, a chaotic, crime-ridden city of crime families and fire. Godhood is impossible, but becoming a New Hades Legend is a close second. Here are a few.
Freddy No Nose: A sadist through and through, this skeletal robot is a veritable terminator with weapon augmentations all over his body, hidden...and glaringly obvious. Tactics be damned! This guy wants to scare and hurt people. A rare breed of sadist, this skull-faced bot with eyes burning red will even sacrifice money if it means he can shed blood or oil. His bomber jacket is fire tho B)
Viole/n/t: The youngest Legend of New Hades at 17, Violet Mendes is a small, frail girl with white hair caused by a rare genetic disease that does give her electric powers, but makes them slowly consume her. She is currently housed in a high security prison for numerous computer crimes. Some call her Robin Hood, given her habits of hacking rich folks dry and giving poor people a very pleasant surprise.
Scales: Some people are just born unlucky. Hans Bank is one of them. What do you get when you combine gigantism, super strength, a bioweapon that causes the skin to become scaly, hard, and sharp teeth to grow? You get one of the top paid fighters in the Erebus Crime Family. It's said that they haven't even bothered to come up with a plan for "when" he's beaten.
Whisper: Age: Unknown. Race: Unknown. Gender: Unknown. What is known about this hooded figure that introduces themself with a metal wire to your throat? Seeing them and dying are about identical. 151,300 people die every day, a surprising amount to the same shadow of a person. (Note: The word "person" is our best guess, their species is also debatable.)
Ronnie Sharp: Money can't buy happiness. You know what it can buy? Everything else. There's a price tag on all creation, it's all pocket change to this man-shark beast of a mafia don. A skinny, short, diseased runt of his brothers, Ronnie is a spiteful, wretched, fervid demon of a shark. But it hardly matters when anyone who calls him out on this is quickly shown how cheap their life is.
Pearly White: Years ago, Mayor Zeus Chandler fiddled with a little underground super soldier experiment. He had his scientists put together a serum that makes psychotic, devoid of empathy, astonishingly clever super soldiers with strength and a healing factor to boot. But as it turns out, kidnapping homeless people and torturing them into psychopathy, then giving them superpowers is a bit of a lousy idea. The pale skin and red lips caused by the serum is what gave The Clowns their name, and if you've met one, you've met them all. Pearly is just their leader.
Harold Finley: Ah, a classic if ever I've seen one. You know those RoboCop street punks? The unrealistically mean ones? Yea, them. Those guys would run screaming if they met Johnny. What does he look like? Good question! Ask the people who've seen him. I'll take you to the cemetery. Hope you're a necromancer.
Nyx: Reading file...pros: passion, literally magic charisma, encyclopedic knowledge of explosives. cons: passion, literally magic charisma, encyclopedic knowledge of explosives. Is this leather-clad, half-shaved, blindfolded lunatic your friend? That's a coinflip if ever I've seen one. Yes, even for her. Heads? Best buds, she'll never let you down. Tails? The Devil shivers.
Simon Shady: The Ministry of Shadows seldom sends out one of their own killers, but when they do, Simon is another word for death. This man is literally made of magical shadows, complete with a noir detective getup. He always kills his target within 7 days of them hearing his name. Each, day, the target loses something they love. More than once, he hasn't even had to finish the job himself.
Gabe Golden. A bear. A literal bipedal bear. In a suit, with golden hands. Actual solid gold hands. Number 1 boxer, huge crime boss. An actual bear with golden hands in a suit. :P

✦ biography ›
for a phoenix who has been alive for seven centuries, telling one's history requires ... discretion. to tell the whole story would take too long, and be rather dull — nobody does interesting things for their entire life. to be truthful, ravi does not remember their first death, the original one which turned them into a phoenix. all they remember is that it hurt. which, given they died five times within their first hundred years, makes it rather unmemorable. most of those deaths were foolishness, rather than old age — climbing cliffs, getting into fights, rushing into burning, collapsing buildings to save others. since then, ravi has learned better, and has only been reborn a further two times from non-age deaths — once from sheer bad luck involving a very embarrassing kitchen incident, and once from a malicious entity they took on in order to protect a loved one. they have always loved fiction, and spent much of their more recent centuries wandering the world collecting rare books and snagging first editions from any author they could. once wandering grew tiring, it was only natural they would find themself called to portum and established aphelion books. about five years ago, five years after the kitchen incident, ravi met [ tba ]. the two hit it off quickly, and soon enough fell in love. after two years, and mostly to get their friends off their backs, the two got married and have remained together ever since.
✦ abilities ›
immortality a phoenix lives forever, and ravi is no different. while they age like a human, they return to life after each death. invulnerability a creature of healing fire, phoenixes cannot be killed permanently and are immune to fire. pyrokinesis the ability to manipulate and create fire ; for a being known as a firebird, this is as easy as breathing ... at least, after sufficient practice, anyway. pyroportation fire-based teleportation ; appearing instantaneously in a place with a flash of fire. limited by their knowledge of the destination, though for a several hundred year old phoenix with a lot of travel under their belt, there are few places that can't be reached. incineration touch an extension of pyrokinesis, the ability to instantly incinerate something on contact. ravi has only ever used this to burn correspondence when in rough situations. healing tears a single phoenix tear can heal a wound ... though more may be required for severe wounds. a sought-after ability, but ravi has never cared for a career in medicine — though they are happy to provide the occasional jar of tears to portum general. superhuman strength with healing fire imbued into their very being, ravi can lift many times their own weight. weaknesses iron, magic
✦ miscellany ›
loves a good adventure. enjoys collecting antiques, particularly music-related.

My takes on the 6 other human souls from undertale (+ their stories) also TW: A LOTTA DEATH!!!!
Sharpay was always a bit of a cynical little girl, always carrying a toy knife from a kitchen playset wherever she went; despite that, she loved to explore and always found herself in danger, one day she went out while her family wasn't looking and accidentally fell into the underground. There she was taken in by toriel, sharpay wasn't very trusting of toriel at first and wanted to attack her as soon as she saw her but instead decided to simply just wait and see if toriel had bad intentions before doing so, and so sharpay lived in the ruins for a few days before unfortunately falling off the balcony to her death while chasing a froggit
Zach was sharpay's older brother; he was very protective of sharpay, obsessed with every single sport you can imagine and was always there to help those who needed it. After the dissappearence of his little sister, zach had decided to go out and look for her when he too had fell into the underground. He exited the ruins and entered snowdin completely oblivious to the fact that sharpay died, zach soon met the same fate after being found by a royal guard and was killed
Cygnet never spoke to a lot of people, they were always caught up in their ballet classes and always planning their next show; to many people this gave them a sense of mystery and even beauty. Outside of ballet, they had an interest in interpretive dance and had preferred communicating through such whenever they could. After they fell into the underground (i couldn't think of how they did so, soz) and made their way through, they came across waterfall and absolutely loved it there. Soon they met undyne and knew that she was going to kill them; after hearing all the stories of how the monsters were trapped there and needed human souls to break the barrier, cygnet ultimately decided to sacrifice themself
Skai was a nerd in every sense of the word; they always felt as though every small detail was important enough to jott down in their many, many notebooks.....that being said: they didn't have many friends due to how antisocial they were, despite this, they seemed to have had some kind of insane luck (i imagine it being similar to how nagito's luck works in danganronpa 2). One day while studying various flora and fauna in the woods, they accidentally fell into the underground. They were able to escape various royal guards and survived several near death experiences until they reached waterfall and met gerson who then decided to take them under his wing. Unfortunately though, someone had found skai and reported them to the royal guard...skai wasn't lucky enough to survive
Cider was an orphan who lived at the same orphanage frisk would eventually end up at before the events of undertale, unfortunately she stayed at the orphanage for so long that she became too old for people to want to adopt her so she decided to help take care of the children instead; her favorite thing to do was cooking and generally just helping out in the kitchen. She especially grew attached to a specific little boy named dusty and had plans of adopting him once she became an adult, one day while playing outside with dusty they both had fell into the underground. After a while the two were confronted by royal guards and cider let herself be caught to give dusty a chance to escape
Dusty was another orphan, he was a very energetic and cheerful human who was obsessed with cowboy movies and dreamed of one day BECOMING a cowboy, he had always hung around with cider and saw her as an older sister figure. After falling into the underground and losing cider, dusty had begun to believe that cider was kidnapped due to not actually seeing her get killed and that the monsters were evil so he made it his goal to try and "save" her....unfortunately he was but a stupid 5 year old and was immediantly killed by the very first royal guard that saw him...

💧 🌟 ☁️ Shooting back with those for any of your character >:]
I'm gonna do multiple ocs for funsies >:] (Saturn, Pip, and Void)
Under the cut bc uhhh it got long lmao
💧 random angst hc
Saturn: This bad boy has so much TRAUMA. One specific thing is that they almost always flinch if anyone moves too fast near them, mostly due to all the fights they were in when they were younger. It genuinely triggers a fight-or-flught response, that almost always ends in fight. They're working on it but also they would rather just not be near people to avoid the risks
Void: ik I've mentioned the whole "Void feel what Mk feels/gets the same injuries as him" thing but what I HAVENT mention is how it negatively affects their mental health. Like, they get hurt bc of Mk, then they have to go and tell other people that Mk is hurt, and they rush off to help him, leaving them feeling really alone and unwanted. It takes them ages to ever communicate it to someone but once they do the others make sure they aren't left alone when they're hurt like that :)
Emerald: angst hc that he gets beat to death violently wt a hammer by Saturn Gadget and Infinite /j
Pip: I've talked abt it b4 but the way they die is so tragic like. She was trying to save her friends, her family, and died believing she had; she thought her sacrifice allowed the jackal squad to live on. Except, they died too, and her death was in vain
🌟 what do they think about when they look at the night sky? is there someone they want to star gaze with?
Saturn: They like the continuity of it. After all the changes their life has been through, all the pain and joy and shifts, the night sky stays the same. If they could star gaze with anyone, they would do it with Pip. They miss sitting quietly next to one another, just taking in the beauty of the sky (and maybe Pip, too, bc they're a huge lesbian)
Void: They think about how big it all is. They named themself after it, in a way; the void of space. Space is so amazing, something idealized and loved for its beauty and mysterious nature. When you get there, though, it's mostly just void, nothingness, not nearly as amazing as what you see from earth. They thought of Mk as space from earth, and them as the void of it all (they were Not doing the best emotionally when they named themself but they stuck with the name afterwards bc they liked it :] ) If they could stargaze wt anyone, it would be Mk, so they could both talk about it (Mk likes space just as much as them, they'll spend hours ranting at each other)
Pip: Cool days and relaxation. They stargazed between missions. If they could star gaze with anyone, it would be Saturn (She has a crush, and maybe this time she'll finally confess. Or maybe not. After all, she has all the time in the world to do it. All the time in the world.)
☁️ a soft hc
Saturn: After long days, they'll often curl up on the couch with Finn and Gadget and just fall asleep together. Sometimes, after a bad nightmare, they'll go to their room and sleep with them, too
Void: Sometimes, Void and Bai He will have sleepovers together. Since Macaque is taking care of Bai He 9 times out of 10, he gets dragged into their sleepovers. They all end out having hot chocolate, binging movies, and falling asleep in a pile of blankets and pillows :]
Pip: Sometimes, when one of her squad mates are feeling down, she'll go out of her way to find the prettiest and brightest flowers she can, and braid them into a flower crown. It usually cheers the others up (also, sometimes she just braids them directly into the others' hair)

👻🎃OCs as Horror Tropes🎃 👻
/j
Hola again :D!
My friend @bunniletto tagged me for this one, and it was really cool!
As always- I will ramble about what I think the results could mean- so, you can ignore that if you want to! Bible of text incoming-
Thanks for stopping by!!!!
Valentina: Isekai
.:The Killer:.
"Was there ever a choice ? Maybe, but that fork in the road is far, far behind you.
You surround yourself now with sharp things, tools to harm, and they have become your only family. You are the thing that goes bump in the night, and you hunt for scurrying mice like a hungry cat.
Maybe, just maybe, though, one can finally put an end to your hunt, and allow you to finally rest."
Oh shit-
Interesting...well this fits with me becoming a werewolf in Skyrim...and especially with me desperatly protecting all my characters in their respective games (since they are the Protagonists of each one)
I guess the end of my hunt is the team of Modded followers in Skyrim, since they protect me at all costs from...well, everything. They are doing the job that I normally always did...
Valentino: Shivering Isles
.:The Sacrifice:.
"A knife to your back is your first memory- it will also be your last.
You cannot help but let things into your heart, such is your nature. Time and time again, however, they hurt you and leave you to rot. But your heart remains open, and you continue to let more in.
Is it kindness, at that point, or is it sacrifice ?"
I actually wanted this one or Monster for him, so WOHOOOOOO, suffer young one.
It's obvious everyone in Oblivion is off to fend for themselfs, but Val still feel the need to protect the ones around him, be it warriors, daedras or even Princes. They don't show him love, some don't even care about him, but Val still will sacrifice himself for their attention, for their affection, even if it's just a "you're not that bad."
Even if daedra hurt him, threaten him or ignore him, Valentino will follow them, silently, but never ever leaving them alone, to the point of obsession for their acceptance.
Zamira: Last Dragonborn
.:The Monster:.
"It was not your fault- at first, at least. You cannot help being the way you are. And even if you could, would you choose to change ? They met you with torches raised and shouting mouths, the only choice you had was to flee.
But you will not stay away forever. They whisper your name in fear, and you will make sure you hurt them just as much as they hurt you."
I mean, makes sense, they are pretty rude to your dragonborn in Skyrim...
Zamira is an Anti-Hero, for the empire she is a Hero, for the Dark Brotherhood a leader, and the rest of Skyrim has to prey she is not in a bad mood for when they ask something from her.
After getting all the artifacts from the Princes, she has every dark thought from those artifacts trapped in her basement...But Mora...Hermaeus is the stronger one, the one thought and dream that just won't let her rest with her family in peace.
I don't think she will ever act on those thoughts, but she is not the same person she was back in Helgen. She wouldn't hurt the people of Skyrim on purpose...but if they threaten her family, she will not hesitate.
Arvius: Nerevarine
.:The Haunted House:.
"Decrepit and falling apart at the seams; time has not been kind to you, has it? Termites have nestled in your bones, and stray cats find comfort in your sinews. You may be victim to time and erosion, but your abandoned corpse remains a refuge for unwanted things. Vermin and ghosts thank you.
What greater kindness can there be than offering shelter?"
I feel this in...he has accepted being the Nerevarine, it hurts, it's lonely, sometimes you want someone to come and fix you, help you...but even after all of what happend, even if you are broken, the people he saved, the experiences he gained, how he bacame stronger and learned to stand up for himself...it was a nice feeling, he helped people, and freed a WHOLE nation in the end.
So it's a bittersweet feeling for him, just like the haunted house.
Emilian: Hero of Kvatch
.:The Ancient Evil:.
"They have wronged you. Perhaps, once, you were something powerful– something to be looked at with adoration and worship and fear.
But time does not yield to you, and when you lay to sleep, you awake to find yourself forgotten. Your rage is insatiable.
No matter what, you will make sure they do not forget this time."
OHOHOHOH HOLY SHI-
I MEAN THIS MAKES SENSE, THE THALMOR TOOK CREDIT FOR THE OBLIVION CRISIS
So the sacrifice of Martin and Emilian was forgotten, and now that Emilian is Sheogorath, I CAN JUST- JUST IMAGINE, THE MOMENTS WHERE EMILIAN HAS CONTROL, WHERE HE COMES BACK, AND SEES WHAT HE BECAME- AND HOW NO ONE CARES- LIKE SBKSFBSI oh my god,,,,,,I need to make a drawing of this
But yes! That would be all! Thank you so much if you've read this far 😭
I hope you have a good day/night!!!

[ jon bernthal, cis man, he/him. ] ✧・゚ is that [ snap wexley ] who just stumbled into town? rumour has it that they’re the [ forty-six ] year old originally hailing from [ star wars ]. if they had to choose a side they would consider themself [ good ]. i’ve also heard that they’re [ reliable ] but [ pessimistic ] and have [ one ] child. i could almost swear i heard [ farewell - john williams ] playing when they appeared.
pretty much as soon as his life began, snap’s life was thrown into turmoil. his father was taken by the empire and his mother left and joined the rebel alliance. this left him with his aunt and her wife to look after him. however, he decided to leave them and create his own life as a junk dealer. still a teen, snap’s mother came back and mended the gap between them – convincing snap to join the cause. he was trained to be a star fighter pilot and went on many missions for the rebel cause. one of these missions was to rescue han solo from the wookiee planet of kashyyyk.
during this mission, snap and his mother were reunited with his father. however, his father had been turned into an imperial assassin and was used to attack many of the rebel leaders. he was left behind and over time, snap continued to work with the rebel alliance. he participated in the battle of jakku, became a member of black squadron, and even became the captain of blue squadron.
two of snap’s friends perished at the hand of the first order, their child left without his parents. arin was only little and snap could see himself in the young boy – a child who lost family to the enemy and was left without anyone to care for him. wanting to shield arin from a childhood too similar to his own, snap took him in under his late friends’ request. he swore he was going to be a father that arin deserved and that the boy’s biological parents would be proud of.
however, despite showering the boy with all the love in the galaxy, snap still doubted his ability to be the best father for arin. he knew his faults and knew that being a pilot for the resistance had its risks – something that caused snap to never get involved with anyone until now. still, snap taught arin about flying and building things, staying with him as much as he could. he would do his work as quickly and safely as possible to ensure he would always return to the boy. he loved arin as if he were his own biological son, finding joy in seeing him grow.
unfortunately, with the battle of exegol, snap was shot down by the enemy and met his end. this left arin to be looked after by rose tico at the age of thirteen, rose being the only one other than poe dameron he would trust to watch over him. however, considering how reckless poe is, he very much preferred rose.
snap can be rather sarcastic and pessimistic at the same time, but he likes to say he’s realistic.he will always fight through strife for the people and things he loves. he’s a willing sacrifice, really. in town he doesn’t remember taking in arin, and he obviously doesn’t remember dying.
memory trigger: seeing arin’s face smeared in grease.

I think u may be stuck on the dashboard of 4 days ago but u should know that martin scorsese himself reacted to goncharov 😳
Yes I do know!!!! It’s amazing this is peak goncharov
The reason Im reblogging posts from 4 days ago is cuz I hit the post limit in like 4 hours on the first day of goncharov and then I filled up my queue with at least 400 goncharov posts. In addition to the normal posts. So now I have 500 posts in my queue. I regret nothing.

My #1 post of 2022
Hello, I'm once again asking you about your OCs because I'm curious! I hope that's okay? Who are Iphi and Jack? I love the first one's name. And if I remember right Jack is aro? That's neat, I haven't really seen a lot of aro characters before! /pos
Thank you for the ask!!! Sorry this is pretty late btw, I haven’t had time to answer it lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(That’s Iphi on the left, Jack on the right. First is a picrew, second isn’t my art but like. I haven’t drawn Jack yet so that’s kinda their ref for now)
But it is rant time!! Imma start with Iphi! Because I kinda need to explain her to give context for Jack’s lore.
So Iphi is the god of sacrifice in this little fantasy world I made, Kunyang! She’s a pretty old god, a couple of thousand years old, but she’s still the second youngest one lol.
In Kunyang, gods are born when they sprout from the seeds of the god tree. The god tree is in the divine realm, which is a different realm entirely from the physical realm, but very rarely, a god seed can arrive in the physical realm.
Anyways, this seed fell into the hands of a very magically powerful person. They had magic potential that could honestly rival a god- and yeah, they believed they were destined for great things because of it. So, they were determined to be the person who caused the god seed to sprout.
So in Kunyang, there was once this library called the Archives, run by the god of knowledge himself, Ephius. This person went to Ephius, and they were told that the seed was for the god of sacrifice. Ephius told the person that to sprout a god seed, they’d need sacrifices from thousands of people. This person wanted to do it, all by themself.
And so, they sacrificed everything. Family, friends, fortune, and fame. All gone, in the hopes of making a legacy. The seed did not sprout, because it wasn’t enough. So this person decided that they would need to make a very big sacrifice, one big enough to make the seed sprout.
They decided to banish the Archives from the physical realm into the divine realm, sacrificing humanity’s access to the library of all knowledge. And that was indeed a big enough sacrifice to give birth to a new god!
And that’s how Iphi was created. But the thing is- that’s really not how you’re supposed to create a god. So she was kind of corrupted from birth. This corruption prevented her from having a lot of character traits that one might consider important to being human.
Iphi does not feel happiness, or satisfaction. No sorrow or regret. Nothing of that sort. But she is working towards a goal: and that is creating a legacy. Having an effect on the world. (Her only contributor to her creation imprinted heavily on her.)
And because of that, she is very active in all manners of sacrifice. Every day, she’s constantly getting people to make sacrifices to her, amassing followers in many different lands. This also increases her powers heavily.
The way her powers work, they’re kinda like payment based. She gets someone to sacrifice something for her, and she can create something else of equal value to that something. (The more important that something was to the person who sacrificed it, the more she can create and do.) Like, she could make a giant wall of fire, or acid rain, or bury a country in gold if she had enough magic. Which she absolutely does. But she mostly saves the magic potential she receives for later.
And also, Iphi doesn’t truly care about anything other than making a mark on the world. She doesn’t mind if people die or suffer because her sacrifices took something too important- if anything, she wants to do that, because it’s quite a way of making your mark on the world.
Oh, and I gotta add- she can’t do this all without a little help! And that’s where Jack comes in.
They’re also a couple thousand years old, but quite younger than Iphi. So they used to be a court jester. Mortal and everything. They should have had a life of a normal length, be just another person in the world, but then they fell in love with Iphi.
And yeah they’re aromantic! It’s not romantic love, it’s alterous love. But yeah they felt a deep emotional attraction, and they wanted to be in a relationship (not a romantic or platonic one though). Anyways, Iphi doesn’t feel the same way. She doesn’t love Jack. But she thought it was convenient to have someone in love with her, and to keep them around, so she offered Jack a sacrifice.
She’d give them eternity, and they would be her servant.
Jack honestly didn’t want to do that at first, but then they had a near-death experience, and agreed to her terms.
So Iphi took their physical body, and also their independence.
Because it would be inconvenient if her servant got bored or wanted to take back the sacrifice. So Jack quite literally cannot think unless she wills it. They’re barely conscious until Iphi needs them, and only then can they think again.
Jack isn’t even aware this happens. To them, it feels like they just woke up, or they just simply forgot what happened during that time
Iphi also messed with Jack’s mind a bit, to amplify their devotion. And yeah, Jack is completely, utterly devoted to her. They would die for her, they’d be tortured for her, they would kill for her too. Nothing is off the table. They’d do anything she says. And they truly love her.
Jack mostly stays in the divine realm, usually, until Iphi sends them to the physical realm to do something for her. That something is usually extorting people to get more sacrifices. Jack pretty much curses people, and then offers to remove that curse in exchange for a sacrifice. (That’s how Janessa got cursed, actually [have I talked about her?] but Jack forgot they cursed her lmao.)
Anywayssss there is some more lore, but this is pretty fucking long already lmao so Imma just end this here. Unless you’d like to hear more!!

Hariel Potter reborn as Rosalinda Satoshi
what If... Harriel Lilac Potter died during the final battle she end up meeting Death instead of Dumbledore, and death have given her a choice wither she want to return or be rebirth but she would be given 5 wish to help her along to her new world of chosing.
When Hariel Potter sacrifice her life so that Voldemort would be mortal once more in order for her friends to defeat Voldemort, but he choice not return to life instead he chosen rebirth since her parents already chosen rebirth so their is no way for her to meet them so rebirth what she chosen to exprince to be have a real childhood instead of one she had with the Dursley, but with her death is the end of the Potter family.
She end up meet Lord death and return all three of his hallows she has unknowningly collected so lord death gaved her five wish for her new life in a world of her chose which she chosen the world of Pokémon which she has secretly watch when she was a child while doing her chores the Dursley gaved her.
I wish to be reborn in alternate world of Pokémon as the daughter of Yellow and Red Satoshi.
I want to have knowladge to how to take care and train different kind of Pokémon and make different kind of Pokémon food.
I wish to understand pokémon and connect with them.
I wish to have knowladge to make anicent and modern different medicine for both Human and Pokémon.
I wish have the skill of Cooking Master Chef, Akido, Judo, Karate, Bussiness
After Lord Death gaved Harriel Potter her 5 wish, he sent her way to her new life to be reborn. She is reborn as Rosalinda Satoshi the only daughter of Yellow and Red Satoshi but during Yellow's pregnancy with their daughter, Red Satoshi got drunk one day and Delia Ketchum took that opportunity to seduce Red into her bed even though she knows that he's already married but she didn't care she always wanted yo have a child with Red but that never happen since he has been in love with Yellow since they were kids so she never had a chance until that opportunity.
Luckly Yellow didn't blame her husband Red since she know how obsessed Delia was with her husband that she willingly took advantage of Red drunk and get her self pregnant in hope that Red would leave his wife but that didn't happen. While Red help for the care for the son he unknownly created with Delia Ketchum while he was drunk.
After Green and Blue Oak heard what Delia Ketchum did to Red while he was drunk, they didn't like her when they were kids and they most not like her nown that thry are adults, they feel sorry for tge child she's carrying should that kid look like Red she would transfer her Obessesion with Red to that kid.
~XxXx~
It wasn't long before Green Oak gaved birth to her son who she named Gary Oak he look identical to his father except for his eyes which are brown instead of Green eyes like Blue, Gary seem have inherited his grandfather's Samuel Oak.
While Yellow Satoshi gaved birth to her daughter Rosalinda Satoshi having her mother's Yellow hair but with her father's red eyes and if she is anything like her parents she would be a strong pokémon Trainer like her father or Coordinator like her mother or she could chose to be both who knows time will only tell.
It wasn't ling after Gary Oak and Rosalinda Satoshi were born that Delia's son Ash Ketchum was born a few months later and he look identical to Red Satoshi except for his eyes, and after Red gaved Delia the money for Ash cared she distance herself since she had it in her delusional mind that Yellow would try to take him from her just because he look like red that she wouldn't allow red near him after the first time he saw the kid, which was find for Red so long as she rise him.
~XxXx~
5 years later...
Red Satoshi & Blue Oak decided to get a pokémon as a gift for their own child 5 years old birthday and their old enough to know how to take care of pokémon themself and this would also teach them responsiblity by the time comes for their own pokémon Journey.
Both Red and Blue decided against get their child two pokémon each from Kanto instead chosen to get them pokémon from other region, blue decided to catch a the first one was a Snivy which is from Unova
Snivy the Grass Snake Pokémon. Cool, calm, and collected, Snivy uses photosynthesis to collect energy with the leaf on its tail.
and one of the Unova starter and it's a Grass type Pokémon and catch the secound pokémon in Shinnoh region another starter from the region a piplup a water type.
Piplup, the Penguin Pokémon. Piplup's limited walking skills often cause it to fall down, but that never hurts its pride.
While Red Satoshi deicided to catch the first pokémon was a Shinnoh, and it's non other than Gible.
Gible, the Land Shark Pokémon. Gible once lived in the tropics, and to avoid cold, it lives in caves warmed by geothermal heat.
while the secound Pokémon he catch in Alolan region which is an Alolan Vulpix which an Ice type pokémon unlike the Vulpix found in Kanto who are fire type pokémon.
Vulpix, Alola Form. The Fox Pokémon. An Ice type. Vulpix is covered in white fur and was discovered on Mount Lanakila. Its breath can reach a temperature of 60 below zero, freezing anything it touches. When carefully groomed, its six tails can be extremely beautiful.
Both Gary Oak & Rosalinda Satoshi were both happy with their new pokémon they got from their dad for their birthday and promise to take care them both and even train it.
Ash Ketchum is jealous that both Gary and Rosalinda already had their first Pokémon and he hasn't even seen a pokémon upcloss before. He tried to befriend them once but his mom didn't want him to be near them for some reason mostly Rosalinda and her mom and if he can't near Rosalinda then Gary wouldn't even go near him since they are each others bestfriend.
Gary & Rosa both began training their own pokémon and they are taught by their own mothers how to take care of their Pokémon right and they even learn how to make pokémon food specially made for the type of pokémon.
~XxXx~
5 years later...
Rosalinda "Rosa" Satoshi, Gary Oak and Ash Ketchum are now 10 years old. They would soon began their own pokémon journey by then both Gary and Rosa was thought everything by their parents and Gary's two original Pokémon are now in their final form
Serperior, the Regal Pokémon and the evolved form of Servine. A Grass type. Serperior's glare can halt its opponent's movement. It increases the solar energy it absorbs.
Serperior is one of Gary power house pokémon along side his Empoleon.
Empoleon, the Emperor Pokémon. A Water and Steel type. Empoleon can swim as fast as a jet boat. The edges of its wings are sharp and can slice through an iceberg with ease.
but Gary's pokémon weren't the only one who evolved so has Rosa's Gible into his final form into a powerful pokémon.
Garchomp, the Mach Pokémon. Dragon and Ground Type. When it folds up its body and spreads its wings, it can fly like a jet plane at the speed of sound.
And Rosa's Vulpix recently turn to a powerful Ninetsles after obtaing a Ice stone to evolved her.
Ninetales, Alola Form. The Fox Pokémon. An Ice and Fairy type. This peaceful Pokémon is known to rescue people from treacherous mountain accidents.
Professore Oak required to give them both a starter pokémon even if they already has starter but those pokémon gifted to them for their birthday so they are still required to a start him directly which suprise thrm both but neverless they chosen their starter the first to chose was a girl with brown hair and blue eyes wjo chosen as her starter
Bulbasaur, the Seed Pokémon. A young Bulbasaur uses the nutrients from its seed for the energy it needs to grow.
before she went began her Pokémon journey. The next to chose was gary snd it wasn't a suprise that he chose Squirtle for a starter.
Squirtle. This Tiny Turtle Pokémon draws its long neck into its shell to launch incredible Waterattacks with amazing range and accuracy. The blasts can be quite powerful.
Since he has slways wanted to have a Squirtle like his father while I have Charmander.
Charmander, the Lizard Pokémon. Charmander's health can be gauged by the fire on the tip of its tail, which burns intensely when it's in good health.
Which I had no problem with since I always wanted to have a Charmander of my own like my father which is now one his powerhouse pokémon and strongest.
Tumblr media
(This is what Rosa Satoshi Look like and let's pretend her hair is blonde instead of pink)
After getting their pokémon they were both set leave when they saw Ash Ketchum run to the Lab to get his starter and he is still in his pajams, but they didn't pay him anymine and got in Gary's and drive away.
While they were both leaving Pallet town, they spotted a pokémon that look like Ho-Oh a legendary Pokémon of Johto and two feathers seem to have fallen into their hands they were amazed to see a Legendary Pokémon for the first time.
Ho-Oh, the Rainbow Pokémon. It is said that when it flies its huge wings compose bright, colorful rainbows. The rare few who bear witness to Ho-Oh are promised an eternal happiness. It also flies through the world in search for trainers with Pure Heart.
-Note: Ho-Oh is a Legendary from the Johto Region.
-Second Note: It is also said to be the Creator of Three Legendary Beasts.
People say that if you find a feather from one of Ho-Oh’s seven-colored wings, you’ll be promised eternal happiness.
And the feathers in their hand hidden to a safe place at all time.
~XxXx~
Ash Ketchum come running out of his house after waking up late to get his starter pokémon that all the three starter are gone but luckly Professor Oak just catch a new pokémon a few minutes ago a Pikachu but he dosen't think Pikachu would even fallow his order for a while until Ash himself earn his trust and Professor Oak himself is reluctant to give Ash that pacific Pikachu but Ash beg so he allow it and he went home to get change their journey
Gary & Rosa weren't the only one who saw Ho-Oh in the sky so did Ash and like both if them he also has gotten a feather from one of Ho-Oh's seven color wings.
~XxXx~
5 months later...
Rosalinda Satoshi and Gary Oak offically now dating so they both decided to go in the St. Anne ship which is well-known luxury cruise liner which sails the world, stopping annually in Vermilion City, Kanto. This ship contains many Pokémon Trainers, including many Gentlemen and Sailors. While they were their they spotted Ash along with his traveling companian.
They both have a look around on the ship they even play games won some prize! One of the prize that Rosa won is a pokémon egg
Tumblr media
But Rosa and Gary don't know what pokemon would hatch from the egg and the secound prized she got was a couple evolution stones and they are
Tumblr media
Fire stone, Water stone, Thunder Stone, Leaf Stone, Moon Stone, Sun Stone, Shiny Stone, Dusk Stone, Dawn Stone, and ice stone. And she even won a couple Mega stones for Ninetales, Garchomp,Charizard,Melotic, Diancie and I even a Surprising Pokémon as a gifth a Diancie
Tumblr media
I always wanted to catch one for myself when I get the chance to travel to Kalos.
Even Gary gotten a mega stones for Empoleon,Serperior, Blastoise, and a Lucario. He even got a Litten
Tumblr media
a pokémon only found in Alola region. But it wasn't long before St. Anne began sinking Gary and Rosa got out of the ship using Rosa's powerful gyarados while everyone abandon ship before continue her pokémon journey.
~XxXx~
6 weeks after nearly sniking at the bottom of the sea along with the st. Anne ship. Gary and Rosa decided to go to the Safari Zone to catch a few pokémon.
As both Gary and Rosa enter the building when a gun suddenly pointed at Rosa's face.
" What are you bratz doing here?" The man ask who also happen to be the owner of the gun pointed at Rosa's face.
"We're here to catch some pokémon" Gary said fast since he was afraid if he fosen't fast enough he might end up shoot his girlfriend.
"I'm Kaiser the caretaker of the Safari zone" the man introduce himself before he gathered a box that was filled with 58 Pokéballs and two fishing rods.
"Here" he slide the box over and both Gary and Rosa split the Pokéball equally to 29 Pokéball each.
Before getting the items they were given before entering spliting going to search For Pokemon they each want to catch for themself.
Rosa went fishing in the lake and catch a female Lanturn. A piplup which she didn't think she'll found one here along with a Mudkip along with a Primarina
Tumblr media
Which he quickly catch before she could escape. Before leaving the lake search for other Pokémon that might intrest her. And quickly found Wurmple
Tumblr media
Which are usually only found Hoenn region, I must be lucky since I kept finding pokémon only found in other regions. And I also catch a Growlithe at the same time as Gary did.
Rosa Satoshi change her traveling outfit
Tumblr media
(Let's pretend all the Pink is Red while the flowers are all hot pink)
~XxXx~
3 months later...
Gary Oak and Rosa Satoshi both reach the semi-final of them Indigo League while Ash manged reach the top 16. Both Gary and Rosa are reaching the breaking point which is no suprise since both their pokémon are equal in stregth and power but Charizard and Rosa won but both Gary next time they finght again the out come would be different.
They return to after Rosa won her first league became a Indigo League Champion for a little while before returning home to her home town with Gary and the others along with their parents by then Ash Ketchum already left after he lost the League. While Rosa was at home her pokémon egg final hatch into something unexpected a baby suicune which Rosa and her parents to see a legendary pokémon up close in front of them.
7 years later....
Tumblr media
Gary Oak has gotten alot stronger but he still in equal stregth with Rosa Satoshi like their father and they already travel to the other region, their now 17 years old and Gary Oak recently became the new Champion of Kanto Region while Rosa Satoshi became the strongest Elite of Kanto. Who specialist in Water & Ice.
Ash Ketchum has been trying to catch up both Gary and Rosa after all these years he is still no where near as strong as the two of them that Gary already became a Pokémon Master along side Rosa like always. But no matter how much I train my pokémon I could never reach the stregth their Pokémon specially not
Tumblr media
(this is Rosa Satoshi looks and outfit. Let's pretend her eyes are red like her father)
Rosa who turn out to be my older half sister and that my father is Red Satoshi who was seduce by my mother while he was drunk and by then he was already married Yellow Satoshi who was pregnant with Rosa at the time so while he provide mom with the money to take care of me he could never be a father to me since mom fear that Yellow would take me as her own son since I look like him alot.
I also learn my mother's past obsession with my father Red Satoshi from non other than Green Oak who happen to be the mother of Gary Oak. It also explain why Gary's parents hate my mom so much if They both know Yellow so well like my father.

[ jon bernthal, cis man, he/him. ] ✧・゚ is that [ snap wexley ] who just stumbled into town? rumour has it that they’re the [ forty-six ] year old originally hailing from [ star wars ]. if they had to choose a side they would consider themself [ good ]. i’ve also heard that they’re [ reliable ] but [ pessimistic ] and have [ one ] child. i could almost swear i heard [ farewell - john williams ] playing when they appeared. tw: death, kidnapping.
pretty much as soon as his life began, snap’s life was thrown into turmoil. his father was taken by the empire and his mother left and joined the rebel alliance. this left him with his aunt and her wife to look after him. however, he decided to leave them and create his own life as a junk dealer. still a teen, snap’s mother came back and mended the gap between them – convincing snap to join the cause. he was trained to be a star fighter pilot and went on many missions for the rebel cause. one of these missions was to rescue han solo from the wookiee planet of kashyyyk.
during this mission, snap and his mother were reunited with his father. however, his father had been turned into an imperial assassin and was used to attack many of the rebel leaders. he was left behind and over time, snap continued to work with the rebel alliance. he participated in the battle of jakku, became a member of black squadron, and even became the captain of blue squadron.

I'm okay with a bunch of disorganized rambling honestly 😂. But if I had to narrow it down then I guess I want to know about main and side characters and how they compare to the original?
I know that tumblr is the Prime Site for disorganized rambling, but I have perfectionism issues. But that is a great question, nonnie, and I will be happy to ramble is a slightly less disorganized fashion.
When reading Maximum Ride as a somewhat-formed adult who discovered they enjoy English classes about 3.5 years ago, I noticed that JP, when writing, doesn't understand consistency. At all. Which means, in many ways, I have a free sandbox to work with.
Spoilers for my rewrite WIP, because I strongly believe that if a story would no longer be good if one had spoilers, then it wasn’t a good story in the first place.
I'm trying to keep the backstories the same, plus or minus the scientific method and a few characters (RIP my OCs. I want to bring you back so bad but it wouldn't fit with the thematic narrative). I've mostly kept their (starting) abilities the same, too. Without further ado, I'm going to introduce some WorldBuilding. (If I'm good at nothing else, I'm good at world building)
First off. Logically.
How are they getting Cable?
How are they getting internet?
How are they getting money to eat and stuff?
JP's answer: handwave it off. Sometimes you need to ignore logistics for the sake of plot. This is an answer I'd accept from an author that I like, such as Julie Kagawa, that makes amazing worlds, characters, and narratives that I will happily handwave a few things that wouldn't work in the real world. James Patterson, on the other hand, did not make any of that; he made a cool concept, some good rough-draft characters, and nothing else, and therefore this is an unforgivable sin.
Wasp's answer: They are not getting any of that.
Introducing Cottagecore.
The house is off the grid. Solar Panels and a wind turbine create electricity. They have their own well. They grow their own food, raise livestock for eggs, milk, and wool, and trap fish for meat. They get money through dumpster diving and pawning. They still have to steal half of the necessities they can’t make themselves. They do have a TV, but it can access about three channels on a clear day. Internet is only a thing when they go to the public library.
Giving the flock a background that’s heavy in farming and livestock rearing shores up the plot holes mentioned above, but in my opinion, ties the flock more tightly to the environment, thus giving them something tangible to lose when they have to leave the E-shaped house. Because they’re not just leaving a house and a safety net— they’re leaving their entire way of life with no promise of getting it back. It also gives them a tangible connection to the earth in case I want to actually pursue the global warming themes.
Main Characters
Maximum “Max” Ride (Birthname: nonexistent)
First off, I'm letting her be Latina, James Patterson.
In the original, Max was very much the headstrong, independent, action girl. Leaning into Strong Female Character (TM), but overall she had a strong, solid foundation and enough character consistency through the first three books for me to not have to just make an entire new character. However, I felt that she was, in some ways, a bit too Action-Girl and Strong and Capable. Yes, Max is incredible and competent, but she’s also fourteen. She’s a child.
In the rewrite, Max’s character is still headstrong, independent, capable, and sometimes not the best at listening to others. All of that’s the same. But she’s that way not because of girlboss energy, but because there’s no one else to do it. She doesn’t want to lead, necessarily. She wants to get some rest and let someone else handle the problems life keeps throwing at her. But she knows if she did that, the responsibility of leader would fall to Fang and Iggy, and she can’t ask that of them. She doesn’t want to place that burden on anyone else (Look, there’s a reason I chose Ayano’s Theory of Happiness as one of her signifier songs, okay?). Her narrative is very much centered around burden, and also around loss. She lost her cultural heritage when she was taken away from her birth family, she lost her childhood to being a leader, she lost a good deal of her friends to the school (RIP my OCs), she lost Jeb, and then she lost her stability. And she’s going to lose a lot more before the end of the story. So a lot of her character arc deals with learning that there are some things she can’t fix, some things that can’t be recovered. She can’t get the E-shaped house back. She can’t get her Little Baby Angel back, even after they rescue her. She can’t get her friends back from the school. And instead of working so hard to recover those or find something to replace them, she has to learn to live with that sense of loss and move on with her life without feeling guilty for leaving things behind. And she has to learn that asking for help and sharing her burden is selfish or weak.
Other changes I made that don’t necessarily fit into her narrative arc, but you asked for rambling so rambling you shall get:
Max hallucinates, because mental illness is also a prominent theme in the rewrite. She doesn’t have a psychotic disorder, but her C-PTSD causes visual/audio hallucinations, especially when she’s stressed or sleep deprived.
Max ends up having a Gender Discovery throughout the story and goes by He/She pronouns eventually. I don’t know when, but it will happen.
As far as genetic modifications/special quirks go, she can fly faster than the rest of the flock, but not 300 miles per hour. She averages about sixty mph with diving speeds of 240. She cannot breathe underwater or shut down her organs on command. She also has the Super Special Power to predict the weather, but that’s not because of genetics, it’s because she has chronic pain in her right arm that gets worse when weather fronts change.
Her favored weapon is her trusty rebar that she picked up from a condemned building. I think she’s going to name it eventually but I don’t know what yet.
Fang (Birth name: Gabriel Xue)
In canon, Fang is characterized in early books by being the “dark, strong, silent type”. He’s probably the most reserved member of the flock, to the point of falling into the Brooding Mystery Man trope in parts of the book. They care a lot, but they’re not the best at conveying that, especially with the younger members of the flock, and at times their high empathy leads them to making mistakes. Despite the high empathy, he’s often compared to a robot due to his lack of expression and external emotions.
Well, first change is that they’re not a man, so jot that down—
If Max’s narrative is centered around burden and loss, I would probably say that Fang’s is centered around humanity and moving on. None of the flock was treated as human while in the school, but Fang was more often than not treated like a wild animal due to “behavioral issues”, and therefore had and continues to have a difficult time considering themselves real and alive, let alone human. This manifests through a several different ways— where in canon Fang definitely had a ‘fight’ reaction, in the re-write they have a ‘freeze’ or ‘shut down’ instinct. They’re selectively mute for multiple reasons (including derealization, jaw pain, the fact that they didn’t learn how to speak until they were 10, and genuinely forgetting it’s something they’re capable of), a period of Cotard’s syndrome, and a tendancy towards self-loathing and self-sacrifice. In short, Fang is still halfway stuck in the mindset that most of the flock grew out of when they escaped in the school, and doesn’t know how to move past it.
Much of their character arc revolves around not necessarily seeing themselves as human, but learning to treat themselves as human even when they don’t feel like one (or even feel real), and knowing that just because they don’t feel human all the time doesn’t mean anyone else can treat them the same. They never start easily expressing their emotions, and they’re always going to be selectively mute, but they learn to accept that those aspects of themself aren’t character flaws or signs that they’re sub-human.
Other additions to Fang’s character include:
They don’t get their hair cut in New York. It stays long through the entire series. They have the longest hair in the flock by the end of the series, and they can wear it in so many styles.
Fang uses they/it pronouns because themes of reclaiming the weapons used against it and, more importantly, Gender.
They’re actually really good at spelling compared to the rest of the flock, because they and Iggy communicate with Print-On-Palm when they’re nonverbal, and they’re nonverbal for some pretty long stretches of time.
They and Max have... zero romantic tension. At all. There is none. The number of times Max calls them her sibling/little sibling in the first arc alone is staggering, and that will not change.
Igneous “Iggy” (Birthname: Jamsetta “Jamie” Griffiths)
I’ve talked about Iggy before. Canon doesn’t give us much to go off of, but from what’s shown, he’s smart, sarcastic, has sharper edges than Fang and Max, and also has a sizable ruthless streak. So that’s what I have to go off of.
The big difference between Iggy and Fang&Max is that Iggy has a much better memory of the School. Most of the flock have areas (months or years) that they don’t remember, or people that they’ve blocked from their mind, but Iggy... doesn’t. So he’s the one that remembers all of the other AVIAN test subjects that were old enough to have names and identities but died due to complications. Max might have the burden of leadership, but he has the burden of memory. And that has lead to both a massive fucking guilt complex, because why did he survive when they didn’t, and, as mentioned above, a ruthless streak that he doesn’t shy away from.
Which is to say, by the end of the story, Iggy has the highest kill count.
I love, love writing Iggy next to Max and Fang. I love writing Iggy next to Gazzy and Nudge. Because, I say this with all of the love of the world, but Iggy is not a good person. He is loyalty and love incarnate, and the world can burn down if he and his siblings are safe. Max and Fang will always try to save as many people as they can. They will wonder what’s wrong with them the first time they kill and don’t have a mental breakdown about it. They are good in a way that Iggy is not. He’s okay with killing Erasers. He’s okay with killing humans. He’s okay with killing people who might not necessarily deserve it, if they show themselves as a threat or are simply in the blast radius. He knows perfectly well that most of those Erasers he’s murdering are four and five and he is okay with that, because a lot of the AVIANs were that age when they died. (Yeah, in the rewrite it’s not Fang who has an issue with Ari; it’s Iggy who wants the 7-year-old wolf-boy dead.)
And this is, of course, juxtaposed with Iggy being really, really good with Nudge and Gazzy (especially in the beginning). Because, again, he actually remembers being a child. He remembers a lot of kids that died and is therefore fiercely protective of the kids that didn’t, as well as fiercely protective of the innocence that he never got. So he’s the one that cooks their favorite foods when they’re having a bad day, always makes time when they want to talk about something, and convinces Max to let them go to that toy store in New York because, yeah, he Max and Fang aren’t kids. They never were. But Nudge, Gazzy, and Angel can be. (And if he has to be a murderer to preserve that, then he’s perfectly okay with that.)
He and Angel don’t get along very well, though. The telepath doesn’t like hanging out with the person with the most clear memories of the school.
Other additions:
Iggy is trans and says trans rights
He also has paranoid episodes, because C-PTSD. Sometimes they’re very helpful. Sometimes they are not.
I actually decided that he’s one of the flock that doesn’t meet their parents. I know in canon he did, but I always found that very clunky because it didn’t add to his character. He was one of the characters who, until it was convenient for the plot, seemed to care the least about his family. I’d much rather give that to a character whose arc would benefit from it.
Iggy! Gets! Older Sibling Rights! Seriously, he’s two months younger than Fang, he is just as capable.
Iggy does not know braille because Jeb decided it wasn’t necessary for him to know. Iggy is also the best speller in the flock, because Print-on-Palm was the only way to talk to Fang for a solid year. Yes he mocks everyone over this.
Iggy is the only member of the flock that enjoys swimming and can take into the air from water. Everyone else in the flock is incredibly jealous.
Nudge (Birthname: Monique Robinson)
If Iggy is defined by his memories, Nudge is his polar opposite. She was seven when she left the School, but she has next to no memories of it. She is missing a lot of time in the first year she escaped. And that causes... a lot of things. It makes her feel disconnected from her older siblings, it gives her the ability to function in society in a way the other’s can’t, it lets her feel less grief over the ones that didn’t make it and she doesn’t remember, it makes her feel guilty that she doesn’t remember what she’s old enough to know.
Basically, in order for me to keep the character of Nudge as I saw her (more extroverted, not afraid of the world, fascinated with humans like her siblings aren’t, desiring to fit in instead of isolate), I had to put a little bit of distance between her and the flock. Of course, she loves them— that will in no way change— but she’s old enough that she should remember the school (and her dead friends) unlike Gazzy and Angel, but she can’t, and she very much fears forgetting the flock if anything happens to them. So she’s trying desperately to keep the flock close and wants desperately to experience the world at the same time, and doesn’t know what to do when she can’t have both. That’s her biggest character conflict throughout the series, along with that in-between area where she’s not quite where her older siblings are but understands so much more than Gazzy and Angel, and where she stands in that.
So yeah. Nudge’s journey is that in looking for belonging in the world, in her family, and in herself.
This is why she’s one of the ones that gets to find her parent, James Patterson.
Other additions include:
She never straightens her hair. Never. Her resources at the E-shaped house aren’t perfect, but she still has learned how to take care of her hair and has a few styles she cycles through.
She becomes the default person Max sics on people when the flock is trying to befriend them. Also their de-facto diplomat around strangers.
As in canon, she does take some time away from the flock to expirience ‘normal life’. This does not last long due to the stress of being separated from her siblings/not being able to help them and [REDACTED]
Nudge is... not the only person in her head. I’m not focusing on it much because she doesn’t actually know and neither does the flock (I don’t know if they ever figure it out during the series, either), but she has dissociative identity disorder. She’s not aware of her alter(s?). Her alter isn’t super aware of her, either.
The alter that I’ve developed is named Oxy and is not super aware of the outside world. In her eyes, she’s still seven and they’re still at the School. She would not recognize the body as her own if she looked in a mirror.
Nudge actually leaves the flock for a while to pursue her dream of living a normal life. She deserves it. She learns how to make muffins and the basics of software development. These things are unrelated.
Gasman (Birthname: No first name, surname “Falk”)
Honestly, writing Gazzy is kind of hard for me. Partially because I’m not great at writing kids, and partially because I feel like he’s a pretty surface-level character in-series that... isn’t super compelling in canon. But even if that’s the case, I try to treat all of my characters with respect, so here we go. In my rewrite, he escaped when he was four, which was half a lifetime ago for him, so his memories are ill-defined. Therefore, he managed to circumvent a lot of the trauma that the rest of the kids have, and not in the way Nudge did, which is by creating an elaborate blockage in her memories.
Which means Gazzy... really doesn’t know how to deal with all of this traumatic stuff happening. So much of his development turns out to be a coming-of-age narrative. Learning how to deal with the horrors of what his siblings grew up with. Learning the fears that they had the entire time. Losing his innocence when everyone around him never had it in the first place, and being so terribly alone because of it. Because, really, how can you explain such a deep loss to people who never had what he had? How can they help in a way that matters?
Also, relationship-wise, I’m slowly deteriorating the relationship between him and Iggy. Slowly. Or, changing it, at least. Gazzy hero-worships Iggy in-series, and for good reason, because Iggy is super cool, especially in the eyes of an eight-year-old, and especially when Iggy has taken care to cultivate parts of his behaviors to be child-friendly. Part of growing up is seeing the flaws in your heroes, and Gazzy has to learn how to deal with it. End of the series Gazzy is much less closer to Iggy than beginning of the series Gazzy, and neither of them are really okay with that, but they learn to live with it, because that’s really all they can do.
Notes:
I’m keeping the mimickry! It plays a bit of a bigger role because that’s how Gazzy learned to talk. I’m debating whether or not he has his own voice or if he just borrows the flock’s as he sees fit. He also uses it to scream really loudly and occaisonally burst the eardrums of Erasers.
At one point he cosplays as Jessica Jones. No you don’t get any more context than this.
He has a horrible sense of fashion.
I’m changing his name eventually because it sucks. He’s either going to change it to Gannet, Garrison, or Ivy Mike temporarily, and permanently to Zephyr. (I never said I was going to make his name GOOD, because he’s eight, but it’s changing. You’re welcome.)
Angel (Birthname: No first name, surname “Falk”)
It’s just... a completely different character, at this point. I’ve changed so many things about her in an attempt to make her consistent and act like a six-year-old and work in the whole “telepath before she has a solid sense of identity”, so it’s a different character. Also, I’m tired of writing coherently or in paragraphs, so have some interesting facts.
She has epilepsy! Super severe epilepsy! I think she might also develop juvenile MS in the future because her brain has so many scars from being a fucking six-year-old telepath. There’s no way she could get out of that unscathed.
She has more memories of the school than Gazzy, but only because she keeps accidentally reading the minds of Max, Fang, and Iggy. On a related note, she interacts with Iggy as little as possible.
The mind reading means that she has a hard time developing as a normal child with a normal sense of identity or reality. She can’t tell how much people are individual people and how much they’re just extensions of her. Conversely, she can’t tell how much of herself is actually her instead of the thoughts/opinions/identities of someone else. It’s... kinda fucked? But also super not-her-fault.
She’s albino because white wings. Also, because I thought it was cool. This also means that her vision sucks, though. Also she has the biggest straw sunhat and the most stylish sunglasses a six-year-old can have.
She’s responsible for Max shaving her hair off.
She has the highest swear count because I think it’s funny. She’s the only person allowed to say the fuck word in writing. Everyone else can only say ‘hell’ and the occasionally ‘damn’ but she can say whatever she wants for dramatic and comedic value.
She is NOT THE FUCKING VOICE, J*MES P*TTERSON.
Honorable Mentions
Jeb
I’m skipping Jeb because of how little I care about him. He’s a little bitch, next character.
Ari
STILL HASN’T BEEN REVEALED AS AN ERASER. I’ve been writing for 50,000 words and he’s over here saying ‘nope nope not yet, not dramatic enough’. He’s had speaking lines but has refused to make himself known to Max. I am so frustrated with this seven-year-old wolf-child that I’ve already considered how I would kill him, if I decide I want to kill yet another child in my writing.
So, my main thoughts for Ari is that he... really just drew the short end of the stick in every possible way. While Jeb didn’t sign him up for Eraser expirimentation, he didn’t do anything to stop it, and pretty much cut his losses when he realized this expiriment made a wreck of his ‘perfect, unflawed’ son, because Jeb doesn’t consider children of any species to actually be humans. So, Ari really hates his dad, which makes things complicated, because he also really loves his dad and really wants his approval.
Which means that he also really hates Max, because she’s the child that always got Jeb’s time and attention, even when Ari was human. I think, on some level, he knows that trying to tear Max down to a less-favored level isn’t actually going to help his situation— infighting for the love of an abusive parent won’t make them any less abusive— but he’s also seven, and his development is already severely stunted due to becoming an Eraser, and he doesn’t see ‘leaving ITEX’ as an option like the Flock does. ITEX is his everything. It’s all he’s ever known, and they tell him he’s doing the right thing, and he wants them to love him. He wants his father to love him. He knows that if he ever questions ITEX, his father will never love him. So it must be his older sister that’s ruining his life and being a horrible child, and once Ari drags her back down to his level, Jeb will realize who the best child is and love him properly again.
Ari, on an even deeper level, does care for Max quite a bit, because she’s his older sister and he wants that to mean something in a way that ‘Jeb being his father’ obviously doesn’t. He wants what she made for herself, and he hates the Flock because she loves them and obviously doesn’t love him.
Ari, if anything, is the product of neglect, and both loves and hates everyone who shows a chance of caring about him. And he’s seven, so he can’t notice these patterns, let alone break them.
So. Notes!
He doesn’t look like an adult. I thought that was gross and unnecessary. He’s seven, but he looks closer to thirteen or fourteen. Still young enough that he looks like every Eraser’s little brother, and the Erasers high-key treat him like it.
On a related note, he’s the only Eraser who can talk. The others don’t have the mental capacity or vocal structure to replicate human speech, but they can understand language (at about the level of a two or three year old) and are very good at nonverbal communication. This is why Ari managed to climb the ranks despite only having three years of “service” and also looking like a tween.
He doesn’t have an expiration date because that is SUCH a stupid plot point.
I’m giving him a chainsaw! I don’t know how, I don’t know when, but he deserves to have a chainsaw and GODDAMN I will give it to him.
Emergency and Gene
The OCs that I love and also killed pre-series. They don’t have any scenes, because they’re dead, but their deaths greatly effected Max, Fang, and Iggy, and they are very commonly referenced. Their voices are probably Max’s most common hallucination, to the point where she sometimes pretends they’re ghosts that she can talk to. They’re not ghosts. They’re dead.
Dr. Valencia Martinez
I’m actually keeping her pretty close to canon— loving, supportive, the type of person to take in a gsw victim with minimal questions. The difference is that rather than kindness fueling her actions, it’s incredible guilt. She has three goals surrounding Max: Give her as much support in any way she can, teach her as much about chicane culture as possible, and never let Max know that she’s her birth parent.
(She’s probably going to fail at AT LEAST two of those, but it’s the thought that counts.)
Notes:
She has a pet fox named Robin Hood that she rescued from an exotic animal salesman that got arrested.
I think I’m going to kill her. I don’t know yet, but it’s on the table.
Anne Walker
Y’know, the fake FBI Agent. Who’s not actually a fake in my story because I hated that plot point. She’s genuinely an FBI agent who put the Flock into pseudo-witness-protection in order to build a case against the Institute of Higher Living, accidentally got attached to her prime witnesses, raised them for a few months, realized a [SPOILER] and promptly had to let them get the hell out dodge.
I really like the Anne Walker that lives in my head. She is a VITAL part of the Flock’s development, their mental/emotional recovery, and adding to their safety net to fall back on. She serves them as their first adult role model, and is the first adult to show them what parent/child are supposed to look like from a healthy perspective. Though she has several fuck ups, she becomes someone that the Flock genuinely trusts and loves, which makes it all the more difficult for them to leave when [REDACTED].
Notes:
She and Max do butt heads initially, because Max is paranoid and also afraid of becoming uneeded. This ends up being incredibly important because Max needs to learn how to live and find meaning in life without being the designated Leader/Parent/Big Sister
Anne, at one point, sits the entire flock down to teach them about consent, which was something no one ever talked about with them before. She goes in talking specifically about consent in a romantic/sexual sense (because they’re fourteen and that’s something they need to know), but quickly turns into a full-fledged no, people are NOT allowed to do that to you, what the FUCK.
She’s responsible for giving the flock a laptop. It’s because Angel is online schooled (bc telepathy makes actually learning difficult) and was therefore provided with a computer.
Anne is also allowed to swear, but only when it’s funny.
Michael “Grey” Rivers
Aka Grey from the Sewers Aka GR3Y H47 Aka Mike from the Bronx Aka Gifted Child Syndrome Incarnate Aka Would-be-in-MIT-if-his-parents-weren’t-horrible. He’s my son, your honour.
Basically, his backstory boils down to him being a genius, getting into MIT at 14, his (horrible) parents wanting a perfect child who could “make it out” of the Bronx and represent his family/neighborhood/borough to the world. When he inevitably failed their expectations due to stress, a schizophrenic-spectrum disorder that completely alienated him from the rest of his support network, and refusing to take his psych meds because the side effects were horrible and they made it harder to think (and therefore pass his classes), they kicked him out. He fully intends to go back to MIT when he turns 18 and has control of his finances/scholarships/medication/therapy.
So that’s how the flock meets him.
Mike ends up in a very prominent support role for the flock both in technological persuits (helping them track their parents, helping them get information from ITEX, trying to disable Max’s chip and failing multiple times until it becomes a matter of personal honour—), in helping the older members of the flock figure out how to deal with hallucinations/delusions (because he’s actually been to therapy, unlike them), and in being one of the only people who talks to them and helps them without any ulterior motive. He’s not trying to build a case against ITEX/The Institute of Higher Learning, he’s not double crossing them, he’s not plagued with guilt. He just genuinely wants to help them, and they genuinely want to help him, and that’s their first introduction to a healthy, non-codependent relationship.
My many disorganized notes on Michael Rivers:
He’s from specifically Morris Heights, Bronx, NYC.
He would say that his last name is actually Rivera, but his grandparents changed it to Rivers so it would sound more English, and his family has been in America for so long that he doesn’t know much about any Latino heritage he may or may not have. He identifies as African American, not Afro-Latino. He’s just bitter that his family felt the need to change their surname to have better opportunities in New York.
Nudge aggressively befriends him pretty much the moment she meets him, bullies him into teaching her how to code, and he very quickly adopts her as his pseudo-little-sister.
His delusions in the book seemed to involve government conspiracies, but as that’s the one delusion that is proved correct in the book, I’ve decided it would be best if his delusions and reality intersected a bit less if I don’t want to write him having a manic/paranoid episode in the second scene he has screen time. So his delusions are more based on “none of this is real”, “someone is recording everything I do and setting me up to fail” and “my ill-wishes on people can and will come true if I dwell on them too long.”. Government conspiracies are one of things he is skeptical about because he thinks most conspiracies are either “CIA admitted to this twenty years ago” or “antisemitism”.
He’s taking online free college classes that don’t actually give him any college credit, but they have good information and help him feel like he’s working towards something. He plans to double major in computer sciences and electrical engineering, minor in marine biology. He’s wanted to join NOAA since he was twelve and he is nothing if not stubborn.
There you go. These are my characters, now. I have custody.

It has been a week since the Banquet.
Eret cannot sleep.
He has tried. Kind of. Sort of. Maybe. He has, at least, attempted to try.
But it hasn’t worked.
And it’s not like they particularly mind.
It has been a week since the Banquet.
Eret has not stopped moving.
Well, she refuses to stop moving, does not feel like they should. It would be… It would be wrong to stop. Foolish did not give up his life for hers so she could waste it in idleness.
(Her legs hadn’t moved, her hands had been immobile and her very lungs had frozen, when he was taken, you did nothing—
They do not know how to forgive themself for that.)
She can’t just… stop. There’s… There’s no time for pauses, no time for quiet, only time to move forwards. Eret builds, and he digs, and he does his best to keep away from everyone else’s land of sight.
(your fault your fault your fault what did you do for them but make a toast and place your hopes in their clawed hands what did you do but kneel before your execution what did you do but spill ichor over obsidian with your lies—)
She does not want to stay idle anymore. And… and she doesn’t really know what she would do with rest, anyway. Eret has much to do, builds to finish, people to look after. Legislation does not happen overnight and without supervision. They have already failed enough.
(Now, isn’t this so much better?)
(... the darkness… within you...)
It’s been a week since the Banquet.
Eret knows. They could tell you the exact amount of minutes that has passed.
Even if the hours pass them by as they fill out paperwork, as they pile stone together and mine for andesite, Eret knows how much time has passed them by, knows the information as well as they know the back of their hand.
There is a golden watch around her wrist.
For Eret, it says, the letters carefully carved in its lug. She has never seen Foolish’ writing, but there is a certainty in his heart, born from the proud look in his emerald eyes the night of—
Born from the proud look in his emerald eyes that night. This is his handwriting, measured and neat so it will fit their name. She has not seen him write, but she has seen him type in the communicator, and knows that his typing is a mess. The idea that impatient, active Foolish sat still, the thought that he carefully, delicately carved these letters, one stroke at a time, on a surface so tiny, not for the grand memory of a build to impress others but for this detail that nobody else would see, it… it…
(“Anything for you, old pal.”)
It’s too much to consider. They do not dwell on it.
He’d carved a small figure in the crown of it, too, a poppy.
It’s her favorite flower. She does not know how the god knew.
(he looked at them with bright, proud eyes and extended a hand, come look, he said, he pleaded, a field of red stretched before their eyes, old pal, he was trying to not be weak, to let himself be vulnerable, there was a look in his eyes, look, i have made you a gard—
Shhhh.)
She does not know how he knew. He does not know, and it’s slowly making him desolate.
Sometimes, he finds himself angry at the god who so graciously gave her this gift. It was much easier to go on about her life when she didn’t know a part of themself was missing.
(and do you know he spoke the truth? perhaps he was simply a liar—)
But that sounds ungrateful, and it sounds wretched. Those thoughts make her out to be someone she does not wish to be. He would like to be worthy of Foolish’s sacrifice. He would like…
He is so tired. So very tired.
He must keep moving.
It has been a week since the Banquet.
She has not slept a single day of it, yet he is not tired.
Physically so, at least. There is a buzz thrumming on his veins, a shimmering sensation over her skin. She has not slept and yet she is not exhausted. He goes without eating but is not starving. He hadn’t felt thirsty until he tasted water. She spent hours mining for andesite, armorless, and not a single mob strayed close.
(Tell them their importance to the Universe.)
It has been a week since the Banquet.
She looks down at their hands. Not a single scratch. Not even a bruise. Even though her hands were bare, even though he hasn’t stopped for hours, in days, there is not a single ache in their body. There is nothing that hurts. Not even their back, usually tired after cartography work, after building and finding more resources, tired from the weight of their guilt, does not hurt.
She finds herself in front of a mirror.
The person who stares back does not look like a monarch. The person who stares back looks flawless, unweighted, magical. Beautiful.
He has not changed out of the dress since... that night, and yet there is not a single tear on it besides the ones from the Eggpire’s trap, not a stain or a loose thread. Their crown is gone—
all their gold is, only the watch remains, she cannot stand the look for it but she could stand much less to lose it
— and so is the corset, the shoulder pads, but the red gown still flows and falls, precious in its detailing. There are no bags under their eyes, no grime in his hair. There is nothing wrong with them.
(You look lovely, the captain had said, present tense, when they found each other by the spider spawner, when she showed Eret her graveyard.
Eret builds and Puffy does too. Different families of the same typeface. Different translations of the same text.)
Her hands shake, she steps closer. She is barefoot. How has she not stepped over a rock? How is he not hurt? Why are their heels not sore?
He steps closer.
There is a fine line of gold around her throat, settled into skin.
(You look lovely.)
(Does it know we love it? That the Universe is kind?)
Totems do not heal an injury from before the mortal blow.
But with Eret, there was no mortal blow at all. They know magic, and that night they felt it sink into their body. It had nothing to heal, nowhere to go. It could not reach Foolish, so it curled around her heart.
And the Universe, even then, watched.
The gods are the Universe’s favorite children. One of them died for Eret. It will not let her get hurt. It will not let his sacrifice go to waste.
No matter how much they deserve the pain for taking Foolish away from the living.
(You are not alone.)
Eret collapses into the mirror, catches herself with one hand. Suddenly, they feel like crying again.
You idiot, she wants to tell him, wants to scream it to his face. He wants to tell Foolish off for this. They want to make sure he knows to never do it again, that his life is not a trading card, that she does not want it, that she would rather die herself than see his body dissipate into divine light again and be haunted by his spirit, by his love, by his fear.
But she can’t.
He is back. She knows he is. Sam had told her, when they discussed the Banquet as Puffy collected some dirt, the words he sacrificed himself for me had spilled from her mouth before he could stop them.
Sam had looked at them with a mixture of pity and guilt.
(Those had been his friends once, had they not? Bad and Ant and Skeppy. The Badlands, a land of chaos, a land of love. Always together. Bad and Ant had been Sam’s choice of prison guards.)
(And Ponk had been his choice of beloved.)
(And Hannah had been his chosen ally.)
Sam had said he was with Ranboo and I last night and had closed his mouth around something else he’d wanted to say.
But Eret must have looked pitiful enough, because he’d continued after a pause.
He was pretending nothing was wrong.
Eret’s heart had broken.
She cannot see Foolish, because inevitably she would bring up his sacrifice, and whatever fragile peace Foolish had built around himself, she’d destroy.
He doesn’t want to hurt him anymore.
(All you would do would be to hurt him, guilty, harmful, poisoned, you are but a wicked seed of pain.)
She cannot see Foolish.
So she ignores her communicator when it rings.
(—always late, old pal, you should keep your communicator on you at all times, i will send you signs across the sky, here’s a messenger, did you seriously just leave me waiting—
No.)
It keeps beeping as she retrieves her sickle, as she finds the mirror again.
It keeps beeping as she throws the sickle towards its surface, as the mirror shatters at her feet.
Not a single piece of glass sinks into her skin.
(All you do is destroy. You were not meant for peace.)
(You are growing restless.)
It keeps beeping. She keeps ignoring it.
Eventually, it stops.
Hours pass before she retrieves it.
Old pal.
Hello.
We should talk.
Tomorrow after sunrise.
If you can.
See you soon.
There is not a single mistake in these messages. It strikes her more than it probably should.
(You are not alone.)
Her hands are shaking again. Maybe they never stopped shaking at all.
It has been a week since the Banquet.
Foolish sacrificed himself for them.
(“How do you always keep waiting?”
“I have infinity laid before me.”)
(When he spoke of their past, he looked so sad when you did not recall, guarded and wary and hurt.
What have you done but hurt him?)
We should talk.
The words echo in their head. They can hear it in Foolish’s voice even if they have never heard him speak them.
Perhaps he should go. The time Foolish proposed is early in the morning but it’s not like Eret has been sleeping. They haven’t even changed, even though it’s been nearly two weeks and counting. They should… They should go. If Foolish wants to see them, maybe they could talk, and he did promise to figure out their memo—
(“Its okay, Eret.”
Your fault. Your fault. Your fault. Your fault.)
Perhaps he should go. But the time Foolish proposed is early in the morning and it’s not like Eret has been sleeping. They haven’t even changed, even though it’s been nearly two weeks and counting. They should… they should rest.
“Maybe next week,” she whispers to no one, to the Universe. “Maybe we can meet next week instead.”
If Foolish wants to see them, maybe they could reschedule.
It has been a week since the Banquet.
It can't hurt to wait a little longer.
.
.
.
.
.
“Just… just let me check something,” Foolish tells the creatures at his feet. “Just let me… Let me see… Just a second…”
But no matter how many times he looks at it, his communicator stays empty. There is no message, no call, there is no rushed footsteps from his portal, no apologetic grin.
“Just let me check…”
.
.
.
.
.
(Sometimes, through the noise of its thoughts—)
.
.
.
“Hey… Hey… Hey, forehead, hey—
can you hear me— Hey, it’s—"
.
.
.
(—almost at the familiar door—)
.
.
.
"— it's me— Hey—
Eret?”
.
.
.
(I wish to tell them that they are—)
.
.
.
(Wake up.)
.
.
.
.
.
There is a cat by the steps of Eret's castle. It looks a little like a toasted marshmallow.
Eret finds it some food. He sits in the steps while the cat eats from a bowl that may have been too precious to use for a pet's food once.
"Do you have an owner, kitty?" They ask, scratching between the cat's ears. It looks too well-kept to be a simple stray, but there is no name tag around its neck. Then again, name tags are rare to find, that might not mean anything.
The cat simply blinks at her and bumps its forehead against her hand.
Maybe she should give him a name.

Heyy i hope this is ok, I really love your Verin x reader where he goes to see his brother is it ok to ask for a continuous of it like he visits the empire to see his brother but also the reader ???
I'm doing okay, thank you for asking! The dreaded double shifts have returned but I have a moment of freedom now. Anyway, I hope you enjoy! 😘
-
The sudden disappearance of Essek Thelyss had left quite the ravage in its wake. The Lens; the network of spies of the Dynasty was left in disarray and without a commander, valuable information had been lost and the underground threats of the Empire still posed a risk. The loss of their connection to the Empire and their own spies to keep tabs on the higher ups Essek had provided had disappeared with him leaving little to no information of the inner workings and plotting on the Dwendalian side of the border.
It was the perfect cover story. Verin is by no means as clever and cunning as his brother. He’s the first one to admit so. He’s got his own strength but that doesn’t leave him lacking a skillset similar to his brother’s. Verin knows how to get information. Verin knows how to stick to the shadows. Verin knows what he’s doing. That’s the words of those who spoke in his favour at the Lucid Bastion when he offered the prospects of temporarily providing that bridge until a suitable replacement was found.
Verin had proven to them his loyalty through providing them with answers to the questions they had been asking about the ongoings in Rexxentrum, limited but answers no less which was much better than what they had before. He offered them a remedy against the chaos and they could do nothing other than take it. So Verin got to frequent his resources of this information insisting he’d take care of this personally due to the fragility of them and risks associated; willing to make that sacrifice for his country and not needlessly put lives at risk, especially not after the disgrace his brother had brought them and his family.
Little did they know that his link to the Empire was you; one who sits on the Kings’ Council and you pointing him in the right direction, leaking through formation that was common knowledge between the higher ups of the empire; information that could have been provided by simply striking up a conversation with one of them. It was merely an excuse for Verin to visit his brother… and you as his social visits now included you many a time. He may have grown a bit attached to your company and you’d not risk sending another drow, let alone a Thelyss to stay at already suspected-of-lowkey-treason-every-Thursday Widogast/Thelyss household. No, you’d let Verin stay within the safety of your home escorting him wherever he needs to go to assure none of you get arrested for conspiracy and treason yourselves.
The cover used for the Dynasty was a little easier to maintain than the one for the Empire. Essek’s disguise had of course been in play long before Verin’s arrival. Essek claimed himself to be a former student of Yussa Errenis. That’s how he got to meet Caleb and when Caleb went to settle and teach at the Soltryce Academy he went with, settling down together going on their occasional adventures.
Verin’s had to be tied to that in some way or their frequent interactions would draw attention, be that people suspecting an affair between the two or something deeper. So the story in nature had to stay simplistic as Verin’s frequent traveling had to be explained and excused in a believable manner. He’d be the so-manieth son of a Nicodranian lord who was given little to no attention from his parents and siblings until he proved capable politically making friends and more importantly connections all over. The downside of these connections; they had to be maintained so he’d travel the world to do so but never too bothered to visit his childhood friend; the former apprentice living with professor Widogast.
Now of course you got some encouragement from the king’s council to nurture this relation with the Nicodranian lord’s son and opening up your own home instead of letting the man stay in one of the many lavish taverns was just that extra personal touch they needed to know you’d do so in name of the king of course. They just didn’t know this was all a lie and you’d keep it that way. The four of you and by extension the Nein and their allies aware would do anything to keep it that way even if that meant a certain little blue tiefling blackmailing a Nicodranian lord or two to keep up the facade with the things she had learned and overheard over her years at the Lavish Chateau.
You’d spent your day off with Caleb, Essek and Verin on a double date of sorts wandering the city, going sightseeing and just exploring ending with a dinner at your place. It had been a pleasant day and you and Caleb had taken a few moments away to allow the brothers to go out on their own for a while as you’d usually done. It still felt strange having the both of them in one place and acting civil no less. Essek had expected his next meeting with his brother to end with one of them dead but that dinner with the Nein had proved him different. Verin refuses to tell him what you’d told his brother to convince him to stay his hand exactly but never stalled to playfully remind Essek he had you to thank for his life.
Essek was happy to admit his relationship with his brother had almost gone back to normal. The normal before both of them were left to the responsibilities and expectations of the world and their country. There were still some hindrances and disagreements but they managed to work through them one by one as adults, though you and Caleb might have something different to say about the bickering children at times. They were siblings and even the semblance of normalcy and a healthy relationship between them brought smiles to your faces as both you and Caleb had been there when it came to your own makeshift family.
The night of your ‘double date’ had ended in a lovely dinner at your place after an eventful day. Caleb and Essek had headed home but a few minutes ago and you’d resigned yourself to washing the dirty dishes. Caleb and Essek had offered to stay and help but you’d shooed them and told them not to worry. There’s just something peaceful about the manual labor of such a mundane task letting your mind wander wherever it went.
“You know you could just cast a spell to clean them, or leave them for your help to clean in the morning.” Verin leans against the door frame watching you clean. You had this argument before. Yes you could speak a few words and snap your fingers and done nor would your housemaid complain about doing them in the morning should you leave them. You’d always felt uneasy with live-in housekeeping for some reason. Perhaps it’s the feeling of lack of privacy or maybe your need for independence but Verin blames your upbringing among the common folk where these were simply tasks you did every day.
“I could also cast a spell and make you do it.” You laugh setting another wet plate on the stack of clean ones ready to be dried and flick your wet hand at Verin who gives you a disapproving look seeing the droplets being absorbed by the fabric of his shirt. he knows better than to argue with you on this and instead picks up the dishcloth beginning to dry the stack of washed plates and putting them in the cabinet where you store them.
“You could just leave them for for the servants.” You mimicked his tone best you could with a laugh and now it’s Verin’s turn to dip his finger tips into the water and flick it at you. You gasp. He’d been getting bolder the more at ease he’d become and you got to see the drow more as the real person behind the layers of responsibility and complexity of his life and just let him be him. You’d seen this transcend with Essek before and knew well enough were it lead. If you could provide a similar haven of peace and allow him to be himself you’d do so. It wasn’t even a sacrifice made as you enjoyed Verin’s company. Though, you could do without him never putting your precious books back onto their shelves when not reading them. He blames losing the tome in your extensive collection if he did so.
“And if I’ve learned anything I know you’d dry them yourself. Last I checked you’re not a servant or am I mistaken?” Verin jokes as he stacks the dried bowls carefully.
“And you’d know all about that, wouldn’t you? Tended to by servants cleaning up after you wherever you went?” You grin finishing the last dish and putting it on the stack turning to lean your hips against the counter behind you. You cross your arms with a teasing grin on your face as you look at him. He knows that grin all too well, enough to know what’s coming.
“Need me to lay out your clothes for the morning, m’lord? Should I bring you a midnight snack, m’lord? Do you desire a bath, M’lord? I could wash your hair and style it just the way you like it m’lord. Would you like me to help you get dressed, m’lord?” You put on a light voice and curtsy holding back laughter as Verin picks up the last dishes and puts them in the cabinet. He’s laughing with you, the act you put on quite hilarious to him. He knows you’re over exaggerating and he knows you know. He’s proven himself independent but it doesn’t help he actually knows people who are tended to in such a way.
“Not far off. I’ll applaud your efforts but you’re mixing tasks. Clothes do not leave the wardrobe until the moment before they’re meant to be worn. You wouldn’t want to wake your lord in the middle of the night so if a midnight snack as you say, should be desired, it should be prepared or provided when asked for. If you’re tending to the lord themself you wouldn’t be the one drawing the bath. As for getting dressed, I doubt you’d be able to help me because I recall you saying my enormous ego gets in your way too much already.” Verin speaks with all seriousness until he’s standing in front of you, hands clasped behind his straightened back. You share a look before bursting out in laughter.
As a reward for this moment of joy you pull out a bottle of wine and two glasses pulling him over to the table by the window he’d once climbed through to hide from the guard patrol. You set down the glasses and begin pouring the wine like a properly schooled server. Verin shakes his head as you pull out the chair for him and let him sit with a bow as you take your own chair at the other side. He may have some comments on the proper posture and manners but holds them back for the sake of humour. He knows you know so instead you just enjoy your wine together.
“How was your day?” You ask taking a sip.
“I’d tell you you’d know since you were there.” Verin commented and you kicked at his leg giving him a look. When you kick again he grabs your leg between his squeezing his shins together to trap it between his and gives you a wink as he takes a sip and releases you smugly.
“I enjoyed it. The gardens were lovely and seeing Essek get in the middle of an intense bet, letting loose like he did… I have not seen that side of my brother in a long time. Not but months ago whenever I tried to take him for a fun night out he’d complain and be a stuck up.” Verin speaks and you can imagine this truth of Essek. He had changed a lot ever since getting entangled with the Mighty Nein. For the better; that’s something you and Verin can agree on.
You enjoy the rest of your wine conversing about the rest of your day, Verin’s travels, your daily business and more. It’s something you’d grown so accustomed to. You pour yourself and Verin another glass, splitting the last contents of the bottle between the two of you with a ‘thank you’ from Verin as you give him just a little bit more.
“How long will you be staying this time round?” You ask changing the subject.
“Trying to get rid of me already? I’ve only been here for one night.” Verin sends you one of his usual charming grins and you wink back at him.
“If I wanted to get rid of you I’d simply call for the guards. How many times do you have to keep sneaking through my window? You know I have a front door right?” You know of his nightly endeavours. You know he really does have information to collect from sources you may or may not have hinted at but he could simply use the front door. You don’t mind either way but getting the living daylights scared out of you when you go into the kitchen for a midnight snack or a glass of water still half asleep, you could do without.
“I’ve been granted three weeks.” Verin has to admit, the Bright Queen’s acceptance of his time came as a surprise. He suspects the Dusk Captain might have gotten her in better spirits that morning and he couldn’t be more thankful. The ‘why’ at the end of his question was implied so he awaits your reply.
“I have some business to attend to at noon but the Mighty Nein is meeting up in Nicodranas for a little side adventure.” Oh. Verin does his best to not let his disappointment show. It’s the downside of not being able to send word ahead or know your schedules beforehand. If he’d known he’d planned differently. He doesn’t want to stand in between you and his brother’s friends.
“I will see you off then.” The crestfallenness in his voice is clear for you to hear so when you reach out over the table to clasp your hand over his, his eyes are drawn to you. Your gentle smile confuses him.
“Actually, I was wondering if you’d like to join us. We’ve worked around the sunlight sensitivity before, especially in the Menagerie Coast so if it’s no bother to you, why don’t you join us?” Verin looks at you, thinking you’re kidding or lying but sees none of this. He thinks for a second.
“I wouldn’t want to intrude-“ He begins but you cut him off with another squeeze to his hand and a reassuring look.
“You won’t. You’re one of us now, Verin. You can’t get rid of us anymore.”
“Then I will come along. Thank you, you and your friends, for everything you’ve done for me.” Verin doesn’t really know how to handle this; getting closer to his brother’s friends, especially you that is. He’s never been in a similar position and the sheer genuineness of it is heart melting, even for him. Not even within his own family has he encountered this and he had been a lot closer with his family than his brother in their younger years.
“You’re very welcome.” You’d be off with Verin and the others. Another sea voyage? Perhaps, but like always you’d see where the winds would take you even if that’s by the literal winds, or a name on a map that sounds funny, or when you’ll unavoidably be on the run from some kind of creature chasing you. Let’s hope that dragon turtle stays far away, and if not, you’d have one hell of a time fighting it. With Verin at your sides this time. He’d be in for an adventure. He’d be in for a surprise. He’d be in for an undoubtable amount of chaos. And he’d welcome it all with open arms. Damn his sentimental side. He blames Essek for that one.
