Theodmon (he/him, @yourfriendlygaymer) is always looking for test subjects for his awful awful science. Kinga (she/her, me) is sometimes too okay with things.
Anyways I'm not used to drawing this kinda thing, so be nice lol. Also quality may be bad

I think a minor but valuable strength of Candela Obscura's chapter 2 is that it's run by the game designer who then proceeds to kill multiple characters from the Quickstart Guide and wreck several locations as well. Particularly given that Rowan and Spenser talked about wanting to leave room in the world for GMs to make a story for their table, this feels apt.

Okay but, if the Assembly actually does have some idea of what Ludinus is up to, probably to varying degrees, but cannot act, and they've essentially turned a blind eye to Caleb's activities of hunting down amoral criminal mages and possibly run some interference on his behalf particularly with regard to Ludinus.......
Nonzero chance that someone (Astrid) has in fact covered tracks for Caleb's wanted criminal mage boyfriend who would be VERY easy for Ludinus to exploit as blackmail, and is being SO chill and collected and professional about it.
In other words, workplace dramedy-turned-spy thriller surrounding the last year of the Cerberus Assembly WHEN.

Limpet [Vesuria]
[2]
The maze walls were half her height. Half of Jigow were goblins, but the other half were orcs—Vesuria was surprised they hadn’t built the makeshift walls higher with them in mind. Their loss.
Jigow was the furthest north she’d been. Every step north, further than before. In late summer, the midday sun wasn’t enough to keep her as toasty as she liked anymore. She’d have to start investing in warmer clothes, but it was impossible not to be in high spirits—it was as though the whole town had poured out onto the streets and the collective joy and bustle filled her like a song. The salt from the nearby sea sharpened the smells of the festival: the packed dirt, the savory pies, the flowing ale, the woodsmoke. The several medallions clinking at her hip were a cheerful reminder of her spoils, proof of her aptitude, and a promise of future entertainment at the closing ceremonies.
In the maze, she was quick to notice she had someone attached to her side in the shape of Varis. A handful of them had formed a loose group by virtue of showing up to the same games at the same time: her, Hamish, the cloaked drow, the weirder-drow-with-feathers, the giff, and Varis.
Ves was more used to Varis’ harengon appearance than any of their disguises. There was always a consistency to them, though—snowy hair, gleaming red eyes. It didn’t seem to matter how common or uncommon a trait they were in whatever race they chose to don. Ves, for her part, had always found the red-eyed glow comforting. It was among the most common colours from home, a partial mirror to her own.
She glanced down and around at them, a single eyebrow cocked. They met her gaze with a level stare. Either they noticed her getting a good look at the maze from the outside or somehow knew there was a benevolent rando in her head offering instructions. Luckily the disembodied voice didn’t mind Ves declining, but she didn’t relish the idea of Varis knowing about it.
In the end, what did it matter—she could figure out the solution to the maze. If anyone asked, she’d give the truth: she was competent, and there were fucking hyena tracks in the mud she couldn’t ignore.
“Looks like I’ve got my own limpet,” she teased. Varis didn’t react and continued to follow.

I am 100% convinced the Bright Queen knows exactly where Essek lives. I assume she’s quite furious, at times irrationally so. But I also feel once she becomes aware he’s Caleb’s partner, it really changes the strategic calculus and she calls off the assassins.
She owes Caleb a great debt and respects what the M9 have done for the Dynasty. It’s entirely in the Dynasty’s best interest to watch from a safe distance while Caleb and Beau continue to hunt down corruption in the Empire. Wildemount is a better place for having the M9 around to reunite occasionally to fight something no one else could. They are a real asset as things currently stand. She is not interested in becoming their enemy. She could easily have thrown them into the dungeons when she met them. The power dynamic’s really changed since then. They’re incredibly powerful, and they have allies.
There’s no way she doesn’t have people scrying on the M9 occasionally for general situational awareness. Knowing what the M9 are up to is important, especially in times of chaos. Caleb and Beau’s ongoing business is definitely of international interest. They’re more discrete than the others, but not flawlessly discrete.
The rest of the M9 have zero discretion. Caleb tries so hard early on. “Where’s Essek? Is he coming with you?” “I have no idea what Essek is up to,” stern look, sounds aloof, changes the subject. It’s a lost cause. The M9 keep using their secret wizard’s real name in open conversation, no matter what disguise he wears in public. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out who Seth is.
Most importantly, the Bright Queen is damn near immortal. She can afford to play a very long game, even longer than most elves. As long as Essek keeps his distance from the Dynasty’s affairs, he is safe as long as the rest of the M9 are alive. After that she has a wealth of time at her disposal to reassess.
TLDR The Mighty Nein are incapable of keeping their second wizard a secret, and the Bright Queen is no fool. In this essay I will

S3 eps 7-9 thoughts below the cut
This is all fresh after the episode and I gotta be up in a couple hours so it won't be fully thought out but...
I love a lot of the creative choices being made! But I think many weren't implemented well, or balanced nicely.
Just! as someone who has deconstructed Campaign 1 and made deviations to the timeline of events and etc (mind you, without the same goal of condensing things for television… but somehow the show has an equivalent perc'ahlia focus to a ship-centered fic?) I think… I can see several avenues of narrative choices that would strengthen the ideas they're going with instead of weakening them.
(My credentials here are 'almost 300k canon divergent AU that converged on a handful of similar plot points to TLOVM', but also the aims of an AU fanfic =/= that of a show. I understand and respect that challenge the team faced. But when a single amateur can point out issues that would be pretty easy to solve and detract from a very enjoyable experience... there might be a Problem)
Ripley doesn't need a sob story, she's getting a book anyways leave it there. Fully agree with @/aq2003. The whole point is that she's monstrous and evil and got her PhD out of a fucking cereal box. Percy is less like her than he thinks. But he dies and she just??? escapes??? IF Percy had to die without VM being present, having Ripley either die of her wounds right after or be unable to flee and get torn to shreds by them would have been excellent.
On that note - only Vex and Cass seem to show strong emotion about his death. Keyleth's supposed to be his best friend, and he and Grog were close this season, but. Well, not like we have any platonic relationships. Everyone's just Kinda Sad.
MAYBE IT'S BECAUSE OF THE MUSIC OVER PERCY'S DEATH HUH. Flashbacks to watching Vampire Diaries as a teenager and pop songs coming on over the end-of-episode drama.
Again just. All the platonic, non-familial (Pike n Grog count. to me. buddies <3) relationships are so scant, which is especially hard on characters who lean on that so hard! Grog and Keyleth especially are hurt by this. Does Keyleth have a single conversation (not quip, conversation) that isn't with Vax? And in group contexts she only loudly brings up her distrust of Raishan without any of the solid backbone it has in fact. (Also her going from Raishan was right last time we should trust her now / She betrayed us! Knew it! / oh maybe she didn't and I should apologize. girl. come on. please)
I have Concerns about 'late Game of Thrones teleportation' syndrome happening here. Scanlan goes from Wildemount back to Whitestone (which are completely different continents) with no explanation. Kash and Zahra make it to Emon (again, different continent to Issylra) just in the nick of time. Which, sure, would take a couple of days to carve Percy a nice likeness (but you have a druid who can manipulate stone right there), and if Kash and Zahra changed their minds and set out as soon as Vax talked to them they might make it! But uh. There's a lot of transport that's omitted, while the scenes give the impression everything is happening within a short period of time. And a lot of these conversations are one-on-ones with the relevant characters without acknowledging they couldn't be there without magical transport. Where is Allura or Gilmore or Keyleth in the back of these shots twiddling their thumbs 'hey can we teleport to the next person on our HELP US list'?
IDK what's going on with Kash. He's likely gonna be used as a lead-in to Something to rez Percy (and him?) but. That quick buildup of him being too carefree to getting smushed was very transparent and Zahra's grief didn't feel earned (though it WAS baller. yes they made them bleed girl <3).
The fact Vax didn't ask him At All about the resurrection ritual in the Tomb stuns me tho. You think Vax remembered the offhand comment Kash made about the body needing to be warm while his sister was dead? We as an audience could have used a reminder, and Vax too. Because anyone who Doesn't remember this one line from S2 is Extra frustrated at everyone for being stupid.
Raishan or Ripley being moved to be the 'Vox Machina, united, with all their Vestiges' fight is... hmn. You could argue Raishan has solid buildup (what with the cameo in Brimscythe's lair), and it does follow campaign canon. She lacks the devastating power to justify the use of all the Vestiges (tbh given Thordak it might feel like a curbstomp unless her necromantic plans are successful)... but I could see it working. But why the fuck has Ripley escaped A THIRD TIME. Percy even duped her twice! How many times are we gonna do that song and dance?
If anything, I'd have moved some Ripley stuff here. If she escapes so be it but VM putting the fate of the world on hold to avenge their friend, THEN have Percy be back for Thordak, would be tasty.
... wait does this mean Percy might not have Cabal's Ruin by the final dragon fight of the season? ffs-
DID NO ONE LOOT CABAL'S RUIN FROM THE FACTORY.
Thordak fight was baller, having all our NPCs there to worry about? a bit much. Cass why are you here. Go home before Whitestone loses its last de Rolo.
Also. Thordak my dude I know you're insane. mad even. but uh... you sent your children into battle. A TON have already died by the time you sadly nuzzle the hatchlings. This was kinda your fault. There's a reason animals don't send their babies into combat. then again you're a large reptile who talks about milk so what do I, a reptile researcher, know -
(Don't give me that crap about reptiles being bad parents we have several snakes who require maternal attendance after birth or they're Asocial Weirdos, crocodilians are VERY goo parents, and there are social lizards too.)
'fix him - FIX HIM' being gutted fucking killed me :c
I sure hope Pike's 'IT'S ME' was uh. about faith in herself. Not abandoning the god she spent all of S1 figuring out how to devote herself to. While wearing the Vestige associated with another god. the vestige that explicitly made this possible and not a nuke fire falls u all die tpk. haha. ha. (@/burr-ell)
Yes yes yes I know the voiceover and visuals fill in for 'I hear my mother in the morning. Fuck you'. but. idk. Felt like the grief of that moment was taken out of it? Also it's a banger line
Raishan's little killsteal attempt being bumped from Vorugal to Thordak was tasty! Go green girl go! ... except it did nothing but set up a few quiet moments before she turned on everyone again.
The amount of times I'm seeing things happen Again in this is... not great.
Glintshore is Not Glinting. Where is my broken glass difficult terrain?
Perc'ahlia arc fuckin impeccable tho. Delicious
And Pike got lots of fun and stunning moments so far! And Grog takin down the lair!
I love a lot of this though. The hallucination gas. Percy vs Ripley in the factory was so cool. Percy downright being Put in a Box for a while. VEX'S CONVERSATION WITH SYLDOR!!! SO MUCH!! Her being the leader and feeling so responsible for all this, and seeing herself become her father! ELAINA BACKSTORY! Scanlan leaving the party only to miss Kaylie too! Thordak being A Dad! Percy's death/Vex's grief being the catalyst for Vaxleth! The animation was fucking stellar - Vax killing Thordak, Percy's death, Pike mastering the Plate.
I don't have concrete thoughts on how I'd restructure the episodes/season (seasons?) to better balance platonic and romantic relationships, and utilize the changes to their fullest potential. But damn if the temptation to do ANOTHER canon divergence rewrite / exploration of cause and effect to make things hit a bit more nicely... make myself a challenge to only use X amount of scenes per episode/chapter, to try and match the difficulty of adapting this to television... idk

🔮Mandatory Mods: these are the ones that make the pretty/gameplay mods work.
BG3 Script Extender: The Script Extender adds Lua/Osiris scripting support to the game.
BG3 Mod Manager: What it says on the tin; allows you to organize and import mods to your game.
Improved UI: Changes existing UI to enhance the current modding scene by removing intrusive in-game warning and enhancing character creation options. Only download IMPUI.
Item Shipment Framework: This framework is designed to supersede Tutorial Chest usage by enabling mod authors to easily add new items to the camp chests and player inventories.
Volition Cabinet: A library mod for creator's other mods.
*When modding on Nexus, don't ignore pop-ups before downloading because some particular mods require some less common support mods to work. I don't list every single one here especially if it's like, a one-off for one mod. (Nexus will give you a pop-up before downloading so you don't miss it)
Be sure to check Requirements and creator's additional info + FAQ when downloading mods. GLHF <3
🐲Gameplay Mods
Origin Themed Weapons & Cloaks: A selection of weapons and cloaks inspired by and for the origin characters. (Not game breaking or over powered).
havsglimt's Class Mods: This creator makes really good looking class mods from existing settings like Grim Hollow's First Vampire Warlock, College of Spirits Bard from Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft, and Graviturgy Wizard inspired by Wildemount's Dunamancy Wizard.
🌈Aesthetic Mods: let’s beautify this game some more!!
Unique Tav Custom Appearance: Gives Tav unique body textures and model, unique face makeup textures, unique face tattoo textures, and also adds body tattoos as an option. I also upscaled the body tattoos because I love you. Now you are very special.
@astarionposting on Patreon and Nexus makes fantastic face presets, recreating some of our favorite fantasy characters to play as in BG3. I currently have her OC Presets VOL. I, House of the Dragon Presets, and Ada Wong from RE.
@cedastarions also on Patreon and Nexus, makes a wide variety of face presets for pretty much any style of character in BG3, along with some very pretty Reshades. I have the beautiful Maya and Talia, Solo and Aurora Presets.
jerinski adds some edge to your Tav with Jerinski's Alt Hair and their Piercing Edits.
Previous Looks of Minthara: choose 1 of 2 hair options from Minthara's Early Access appearance. (I use Patch 4)
Style the Blade; Wyll's Devil Form, Alternate Hairstyles for Wyll, Alternative Eye for Wyll
Edited Heads for Hag!Ethel and Sceleritas Fel; changes their noses.
Basket Full of Equipment SFW: Over 800 pieces of new armor and equipment, mainly for human-like races. (Not as overwhelming to navigate as it may seem; organized. Compatible with dye mods).
Camp Clothes in the Camp Chest: This mod adds a new wardrobe to the camp chest, housing all camp clothes, shoes, and underwear.
Astralitie makes beautiful, fun mods like: Elven Anthology, Natural & Fantasy Skintones, More Hair Colors, and Feywild Eyes.
Tav's Hair Salon: Collection of hairstyles. Mostly for elf/half-elf/drow/human/tiefling bodytypes 1&2. Not an override, they're additional hairs added to your game.
Icon and Race Patches for Tav's Hair Salon: Adding icons to the hairs and to add compatibility with some custom race mods.
Piercing Improvement: Adds physics to piercings, so they look animated when the character moves.
Extra Dyes for the Fashionable Folk of Faerun: Adds new, unlimited-use dyes to the game! (Yes, they're actually unlimited and also, gorgeous.)
Kryo's Dice Collection: A collection of various dice skins based on the vanilla Behir Blue die. (I've had 0 problem with this)
*Mods not working? Check the mod's Description or Posts to see of there's a specific order for your mod to be placed in BGMM. Mods have to be placed in a certain order to appear and work properly in your game. Desktop users, avoid using the in-game mod manager as much as you can because it will reorder your mod list.

I sort of got off topic in the ask I just answered, and this is also a repetition of stuff I and others have said pretty frequently before but: an unbelievably consistent theme across Critical Role especially, but also D20 while we're at it, is that sitting forever in resentment of your personal traumas, valid though they may be, can very easily become a source of villainy. It leads to a mentality in which you are always the wronged and oppressed (structurally or individually) party, even when you surpass those who wronged you in power, even if you start perpetuating the same harm. We see it constantly. It's the entire premise behind how Orthax functions and both Percy and Ripley fall to it; it's Delilah's eventual motivation after her initial defeat; it's the underpinning of Wildemount's many cults and something Lucien repeatedly cites in-game (and he is more sympathetic than most when finally given more internality in the book); it's essentially what Trent relies on to indoctrinate students. It's how the Vanguard recruits and it is, above all, what drives Ludinus and his generals and (reluctant, resentful) allies. It's why Kipperlily is one of D20's greatest villains, and why Calroy betrays in ACOC. Even more so than a thirst for power on its own without necessarily the accompaniment of this resentment (Goldenhoard, Avantika, Briarwoods pre-initial defeat, Chroma Conclave) this is portrayed as the enemy.
The thing about that resentment is that it relies on the villain forever portraying themselves as powerless, as just a little guy who you can't hit because they're just a little baby boy. As, as I said last night, an NPC rather than someone with immense agency. It's a lie; don't fall for it. It's true that with great power comes great responsibility, but with any small amount of power does come small responsibility. This resentment essentially is an abdication of that responsibility to take what you have and try to improve things, and instead focusing on how everything is someone else's fault. And something I love about actual play, since power through agency is indeed at its core, is that this abdication of responsibility is consistently portrayed as something terrible.

Ok, I've been thinking about this and I'm really curious. If you got to pick a Prime Deity to represent at the Downfall table (or a similar situation, playing the mortal avatar of an immortal god) which one would you pick?
RULES:
Assume whichever of the following two scenarios is most comfortable for you: either A) everyone else who was at the table is playing the characters they played in Downfall, unless you want their character, in which case you replace them and they happily take a week off. Or, B) you are going to be playing a Downfall-esque game with your favorite D&D players (friends, other CR cast members, faceless perfect beings of your imagination, etc.) wherein you get to choose your character first and everyone will seamlessly accommodate you.
No, you can't choose The Luxon or one of the minor deities. Maybe that will be a different poll later.
No, you can't choose a Betrayer God. That poll is here.
Below the cut is a short description of each deity's domain, ripped straight from the chart on page 21 of Explorer's Guide to Wildemount.
The Change Bringer: Change, freedom, luck. Chaotic good.
The Platinum Dragon: Honor, justice. Lawful good.
The Arch Heart: Art, beauty, elves. Chaotic good.
The Law Bearer: Civilization, law, peace. Lawful neutral.
The Knowing Mistress: Knowledge, learning, teaching. Neutral.
The Storm Lord: Battle, competition, storms. Chaotic neutral.
The Wild Mother: Seas, wilderness. Neutral.
The All-Hammer: Craft, creation. Lawful good.
The Dawn Father: Healing, sun. Neutral good.
The Everlight: Atonement, compassion. Neutral good.
The Matron of Ravens: Death, fate, winter. Lawful neutral.
The Moon Weaver: Illusion, moonlight, night. Chaotic good.
