Linktober, Day 12: Tarry Town!
You defeat the final boss in the volcano causing the floating islands to float! Congrats. Unfortunately, with the destruction of the said monster, the islands are no longer floating and are, in fact, slowly coming down enmass as the magnesis scatters.
Zelda would like to point out people are much more likely to survive walking around slow giant rocks from the sky versus dodging flaming lava. She’s practicing this new thing called positive thinking.
(This is a totk au called Familiar Familiar where zelda does not go back in time! Click here to see the full comic masterlist)

Hey, kid. You aren't wrong for feeling that way, and you aren't being dramatic. It's a pretty common sentiment I've gotten from my male friends over the years. Some of the nicest guys & strongest allies I've ever met in my life have had to live with a lot of insecurity because of these unchecked man-hating sentiments. Some of the chillest people I know feel like they have to make themselves smaller and more palatable for the comfort of other people. And that sucks.
It's okay to be a man. It's okay to have problems as a man. It's okay to make mistakes as a man. It's okay to reach out to trusted friends & adults to express your pain when someone hurts you, even if that hurt is caused indirectly. If anyone is making generalized statements about a whole group of people, they are the ones in the wrong, and they are the ones pushing you away. You do not have to tolerate people being mean to you or saying mean things about a group you belong to -- not ever. You are allowed to tell those people that they are being hurtful and that they're hurting your feelings. And if they double down and prioritize their right to say mean things, then you definitely don't have to just shut up and take it. That's not what good friends would do, it's not what good feminists would do, and protecting yourself from their anger and hostility is not betraying them. If anything, it is their problem that they are not naming the actual shitty behavior of the person who messed up, but rather pinning it on his gender identity. That person might take away the message that his behavior wasn't the problem, but rather it was his gender identity. And in the meantime, the men who had nothing to do with it also feel the brunt of that sentiment. It's also a scary thing to witness as a trans man, to realize that your would-be friends and self-described "allies" might just hate you for a part of yourself that you love or who secretly believe you're not a real man or who clearly don't consider men fully capable of both good and bad behavior just like any other human. And to know that you might have that hatred of men wielded against you the moment you want to speak up about how they've hurt you or when you disagree with them on something. Anyone who doesn't see that as a problem is either being shitty on purpose or is totally oblivious to their own capacity for causing harm.
Really, though. Your being a man is not a problem and will never be a problem. If you make a mistake or say something insulting or do something awful, it is not because you are a man, but rather because you are a human and many humans need to work on themselves to become better versions of themselves. People justifying their man hate are not as morally grounded as many of them would like you to believe, and it is okay to reject the narrative that they deserve to say mean things uncritically and that anyone who disagrees with them is a misogynist who doesn't know how bad they have it. I promise you there are people who will see you as a person and who will embrace and love your masculinity and not see it as a mark against you. You are fully human and fully justified to be upset when people try to diminish that humanity. Standing up for yourself is not the same as stomping down on someone, and it is important to learn the difference.
I feel for you, friend, and you'll always be welcome in my side of the queer community. Don't let anyone convince you otherwise.
you don't need to reply to this, especially since it's really vent-y. sorry.
hi, i just wanted to say that your blog makes me feel safe as a queer teenage boy. recently, the spaces i socialize in with people my age have been somewhat making me feel ashamed of being a boy, i guess?
it's because a cis boy that was our mutual misinterpreted something and said something hurtful (as well as other context), so a lot of people just Hate him now.
but the main thing is people began to send him stuff like: "i hate all the men on this site, all of them are weirdos, and you're one of them", "the fact people still like you after everything is proof that men can get away with anything", "what is it with men and showing no kindness for anyone ever", "fuck men", and stuff.
and i felt really. bad. and disgusting, for being a boy. i hope it isn't dramatic for me to feel like that. i am a boy, i am a man, and that is me! but with people suddenly acting like this, i feel ashamed and scared. i don't know what to do, or how to feel.
i'm sorry this is happening, people are just wearing their transphobia and queerphobia on their sleeves lately, i don't understand why anyone views this as okay? why do they instantly jump to dehumanizing you and any other man
making blanket statements like this is dehumanizing men. so people suddenly just fly off the handle the second a man does anything they don't personally like. bad faith call after bad faith call. catastrophizing, black and white thinking. it's so hostile for no reason. people are taking their trauma out on people who have not hurt them. really that's what it is and they project toxic masculinity on to all men as well and it hurts people
i'm sorry that people are treating you like garbage for being who you are, but i hope you stay safe. take care of yourself. you don't deserve to be harassed because of your gender. that's profiling. it's violence. it's queerphobia. people really should care. especially if you're a teenager that's just awful

i love the (slightly cracky) premise that the newer batkids like duke who weren't around during jason's genuine "i hate the batfam" era would sometimes forget that it even happened so there'd be times where it would go:
Tim: where are you going
Jason: got a call from a friend in the alley, some fuckers need bullets in their knees. tell B and i'll kill you
Tim: no you won't
Jason: i dunno, i almost did it twice, third time's the charm
Tim: boooo you'll have to try harder
Jason, flipping him off as he leaves: watch your back, timmers!
Duke, who was sitting next to Tim the whole time: ??? he almost did it twice???? i thought he's joking when he says that????
Tim: oh, he is joking whenever he says that now. try a few years ago and it wouldn't have been as much of a joke
Duke: ???????????
Tim, snorting: i'd like to see him try again, anyway. once you realise that spends 80% of his free time in the local library he becomes no better than a nerdy loser who happens to be a bit dangerous
Duke: DUDE
Tim: what? do you find jason scary?
Duke: not usually but DUDE?!?!?

Lan Wangji Goes To Lotus Pier AU: Part 3: Enveloping Feelings.
(Part 1, Part 2, Part 4)
#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#lan wangji#Yungmeng Jiang training arc AU#I wanted to try out a different paneling style for this one - sorry I'm a day late! (there will still be a post tomorrow to keep on track)#The original 3 panel comic idea was fine but the point of this new schedule was to take time to push myself a bit more.#I was taking a look back through some comic artists I felt inspired by#and I really loved how Lynda Barry fills her gutters with patterns and doodles!#Obviously I'm not going as absolutely wild with it as she does but it was a great exercise!#I truly think the gutters are the most important and most overlooked part of any comic. There's lots going on in that space.#It's the same with timeskips. The implied movement between moments that we don't see changes depending on how wide that gap is#You're here for the funny tags so here's some that ties this time talk together:#I think LWJ was thinking about that second note from day 2 but it took him 7 days of hazing to commit it to paper.#I think he sends it a day later and immediately regrets it. Chasing down the messenger and everything.#You know if something actually happened to his brother he would never ever forgive himself for putting the bad vibes out there.#Third time skip was the hardest because there was so many possible flavours of jokes here. Day 8/9 was a personal favourite.#day 14 was also funny (week by week). I think the debate on 'how long does lwj take to catch feelings' is more or less:#'how long does it take for him to arrive at a particular stage of grief and yearning (and awareness of it all)#This is a symphony. There is an act by act structure. Every day he is fighting to keep his old sensibilities. He is losing so badly.#(I'll be returning to the main comic soon but there is more of this AU to come!)

you know what. i actually love that trying to talk to solas was the last thing varric did and it ended in complete failure. especially if you put it in the context of his feelings about anders. varric was so bitter every time he mentioned him because he could not stop him. he didn't even realize that anders was up to something and when it was too late he started to think of him as of someone who destroyed that fragile peace in kirkwall that actually never existed.
it adds layers to the way he felt about solas. he believed that time he could stop a friend who simply lost his way. because varric tethras can talk anyone out of anything, can't he? anders was just too dodgy and self-centred and cut everyone off just like solas did but this time varric is completely prepared. surely. absolutely.
he could have never talked anders out of it even if he had known what was coming. he could have never talked solas out of it either. anders was a desperate person standing against (as varric himself put it) forces he couldn't possibly defeat. solas was a god standing against a couple of mortals and his own conscience buried under his guilt and regrets. being a good friend would not stop meredith's oppression. being a good friend would not stop someone who fears so much that all of the atrocities he committed were for nothing and would mean nothing at the end. varric died because he didn't realize it. he died and left his second in command with an immense guilt because they believed he knew solas enough to pull that off and there's something tragic about it
