Corvo for the ask game - I don't really go here (at least not yet) but I am curious 👀

How I feel about this character my dear Corvo. yeah I love Corvo despite everything and I support his rights and wrongs. he's a good protagonist I love him. also yea dh2 Corvo >>>>>>>> dh1 Corvo :)) (sorry not sorry).

All the people I ship romantically with this character Outsider (obviously). corvosider is my ship #1. I rarely go there but Daud is also fine. I've seen some good Corvo/Martin stuff as well.

My non-romantic OTP for this character well Corvo and Billie? I just like how she taunts him :^) in my eyes, Corvo and Emily's dynamic isn't too pronounced aside from "he loves her and will kill for her but still" so I cannot say it's my otp.

My unpopular opinion about this character not giving him a voice was a mistake :( also, my Corvo and Emily dynamic opinion in the question above.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon. I seriously wish Corvo felt more negative about imperialism (as someone who comes from a colony he should be at least a bit repulsed by Dunwall politics towards Isles I believe. I will die on this hill. and yeah maybe dh1 very high chaos ending isn't too bad) (also weird void sex with Outsider)

How I feel about this character

i fucking love Laurence bloodborne. He's such a cunt but in a very very compelling sorta way yknow. There's so little we know about his personality too, we only know the void he left behind him, and that in of itself is compelling but also i get to make up a guy which is my favouriiite. We do know he's apprehensive about the hunt and also a violent dictator which is soooo fun to play with because it feels like they should be contridictory. Love a guy who does mental gymnastics to justify his own attrocious actions :]

That's half a joke. I can see pretty much any romantic ship with Laurence working because he impacts every major character's lives immensely. So even though i only really view him as being romantic with Gehrman and maaaybe Brador (even then it's under layers of repression so they don't really get anywhere) I can see where basically any romantic reading comes from. It's good. Poly King.

My non-romantic OTP for this character

I have three!! Actually!! Ludwig, Caryll and Maria all have such facinating dynamics with Laurence in a toxic friendship sorta way and I love love love thinking about them. With Ludwig I love the angle of Ludwig trusting his friend to such an extent that he becomes a facist for him. With Caryll it's watching your respective peer and brother deteriorate before your eyes, before your gods. And with Maria it's someone you trust and have repor with waiting for you to die so they can massacre your people for politcal gain. It's good.

My unpopular opinion about this character

He's Bloodletting Beast. And also VERY violent. I think he's a masterful shooter and basically the reason Church hunters carry poison knives in their sleeves. He has assassins to make you think he can't hold his own in a fight but he definatly can. I've been meaning to write a fic where he slits the old mayor's throat and enjoys it probably a little bit too much.

Also he's fat not sorry. And very pretty :]]

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

I WISH they had more time to work on his bossfight. The DLC was very rushed and we can tell from game data that the Laurence we fight in game wasn't meant to be him initially. I wish they had more time to flesh that moment out and didn't have to resort to a boss reskin that they already had done. Also that they kept that flashback with Gehrman in it's like where half my interpretion of him comes from I wish it was cannon.

Heeeeeey! ❤️ Here, I finally consider myself having read 'enough' Bloodborne fanfics, sooooo let me just share a few! Though I will be sincere; my selection of characters and themes to read is a bit narrow (for now), I do not read anything in the row x) Let's see!

This is a short and finished fanfic that explains the mechanics of Micolash's mirrors teleportation from alchemical and occult standpoint, as well as HOW and WHY he is 'the Host of the Nightmare' and... without any exagerration or flattery?

This is basically all I've ever wanted from fanfiction about Micolash. I was honestly impressed by alchemical and historical knowledge elaborated and how precisely it is explained how things WORK. Fictional universe giving very exact formulas, mechanics and rules of worldbuilding always felt like absolutely next-level thing for me, and something I think Bloodborne fandom REALLY needs. ESPECIALLY regarding the dark academia horror related characters like Micolash. Writing level is also very good.

ALSO, this particular fanfic made me realise something about School of Mensis that BLEW my mind, so I will bring up a bit from it in another post, stay tuned in

(Not to mention that I am absolutely in love with this portrayal of 'early' Micolash, only just having set a foot on his path to insanity, being very stubborn and determined yet clearly having no realistic esteem of how HARD this way will be. Almost childish naivety of a boy that fell in love with inhuman knowledge...)

Now finished works end. x) This fanfic I actually got recommended several times as one of like, two people that love Edgar. I am already enjoying it VERY much, it was definitely worth the hype from my friends I'll say.

It is written in the style of letters and diary notes mostly by Edgar, though sometimes scribbles of other characters are found and... Well, in this case, I did not KNOW I needed this. I absolutely love reasonable and analytical approach of Edgar and how well old English is imitated. (I personally also find this fanfic very handy as a reference to how people in Bloodborne setting would talk, since I just can't imitate this style as someone for whom English is not even the first language... Thank you for teaching me 5000 old-fashioned synonyms. )

Honestly, I think this is the best format for describing Edgar's slow descent into insanity possible; we can see how he loses his objective and falls in love with Micolash through his eyes, it illustrates the progression much more effectively than third face writing would in my opinion. I would not even call it a ship fanfic not yet at least?, he falls in love not with a man but with a cult leader but that is... even better? I don't want to spoil at what point the fanfic is right now as I write this post, but it was SO awesome that I've been thinking about it all day. Without irony, I want Whatever This Is even more than normal "ship" now o_o'

This is also a work in progress, an ambitious project to tell the full story of discovery of the Old Blood and Pthumerian secrets, getting help of Cainhurst in investigations, all the researches, forming of the Healing Church and so on so on...

I am really impressed that Fantomette, as someone without prior experience with writing (and not speaking English as native language, like me) jumped to something so big. But honestly? I've had a lot of fun reading this story. It is just... so many characters, so many themes, and chapters are written absolutely correctly in how they lead events from point A to point B and how the mood changes. There is never too much emotion+information, and never not enough. I don't know how to explain it well as I am still a visual artist, not a writer, but it legit feels like watching a fun TV show! You get invested.

I will be blunt; skill, artistry, grammar (especially in foreign language), sometimes even consistency... they all are important but there is always time to develop them. The most, and most, and MOST important thing for the writing, without which NO skill matters is to be entertaining and engaging. And this fanfic did entertain me and did make me care about what was going on, so of course I can recommend it with clear conscience.

(Also, side note, I gave her many advices on how to improve this or that sentence and pointed out some wrongly used synonyms or typos... I was worried that I'd accidentally destroy her self-esteem, but she has been receiving constructive criticism very well and is willing to improve. Like.. I can just say this person has talent and will go very far.)

So yeah! Waiting for the latter two to get more chapters and be finished.. and also hoping for more stuff like the first one please!

I'd say I am very particular on the 'gives my blorbo a justice' fanfics, and those that either do not focus on a ship or make it weeeeeeeird. Each of the listed fanfics are an example of what I am after; exploration and exact explanation of the science and magic, study of a character and their progress as a person, and detalization of 50000 events and characters that formed Yharnam's story! If you got some more, let me know too!

Cosmos - what’s the best compliment you’ve ever received? Who was it from?

While I have attempted to answer it here (and still can’t give a whole one honestly), there have been others which are really sticking in my mind atm, both from the long and short-term.

Long-term: In a conversation with another believer friend in 2022, she heard from the Lord and relayed to me in the moment, and it even ended up being the source of inspiration for my current url. “You are an enigma of My absolute delight.”

(I personally hope I never stop being an enigma, honestly. Who wants to fit in a box anyway?)

Short-term: I’d been talking with a coworker expressing some concerns about one of the students I teach in class today, but she reassured me that it was fine, and the fact that I was able to have such a good rapport with the student in question was a rarity, so it was nothing to worry about. The relief I’m knowing I’m not screwing up is. Well, you get it.

Lotus - what is your favourite colour and in what shade?

BLUE.

More specifically, it’s the kind of blues you’d expect to see in the ocean, but also fit right at home in space too. R2-D2 blue. The sky is not black but navy blue. The light of a star through said sky kind of blue.

Poppy - out of the four seasons, which season of the year is your favourite and why?

Good question - because of my status as someone who’s lived in the southern hemisphere for all my life and only been to the Northern hemisphere in the spring/summer seasons on *their* ends, they all have different connotations to me compared to most people Generally Online.

I don’t associate Autumn with Halloween, for instance, because of it. It’s just ‘oh costume season huh?’ because it’s spring turning into VERY warm summer here on my end. June-July-August aren’t summer to me, they’re the coldest part of the year and feed into my excitement to get back into layering my clothes up. I really do wanna have a white snowy Christmas at some point in my life, but when New Zealand’s mountain ranges are too warm for snow and Australia literally has surfing Santa as part of the usual marketing, grilling at a barbecue with the Hottest Temperatures to Become A Human Kebab In, good luck to me dreaming of said white Christmas when it’s sand, surf and MELTING.

That being said, I think I still enjoy my different perspective on the seasons. Autumn in the second quarter of the year looking like cozy vibes you don’t really get anywhere else, certainly not in the states. Winter in the middle of the year reminds us that we’ll get through it all somehow, despite the cold. Spring signifying the end of the main uni year (if you’re not someone taking trimester 3) and finals about to be over. Summer meaning the biggest break, the school holidays running in and the very physical reminder that despite all its rough patches, the first days of the New Year are bound to be bright, warm and sunny, just like they were in the end of the old one. That it’s a miracle to have the sun shining down brightly, you can get out of the house and run around having adventures in shorts and a t-shirt.

And personally for me, as someone who was born in that last one, it means a new lease on life being granted, knowing that the gifts of the Christmas just passed aren’t the only ones alone, and there’s bound to be more incoming.

For all the spite I have against summer, I don’t think I’d trade my ‘slip slop slap’ of a shirt, sunscreen and hat for any of the other seasons. I’ll sweat like hell, but that’s what cold water is for.

Okay that's a really good question and I had to scratch my head at it for a while.

I'm not even sure how to define happiness; it seems too personal of a thing to be turned into a mere description.

Can't tell too much without compromising my writings lol, but I do think he had some measure of happiness — if only it could be called as such — before all started to go south for Byrgenwerth.

Only I'd translate "happiness" as a sense of normalcy. Even after seeing the remains of Kos, desecrated on a beach and dissected like a feast for the eyes of the others; his own, too, but not so much yet. He watched and did not take part in the proverbial meal. Did it preserve him somewhat?

Not really, as I like seeing Rom's ascension as the turning point. Their relationship is voluntarily left ambiguous; I'm not even certain they shared the same view on it. She is the one who has plunged her hands into the carcass. The blood is still on her hands. She longs to wash it away. She craves it. She pulls Micolash into it, and as she falls down the stairs, he treads them carefully.

Until the nasty business finally happens. Then something snaps. What, no one knows — but Willem, perhaps, ever-looking at the lake, has an inkling. Micolash threatens to throw him into the water with the niece he so carelessly used as a vessel for his experiment. Instead, he leaves Byrgenwerth behind. The college looks like a mausoleum: empty and cold and utterly sunless.

Mensis brings no happiness, but respite, in some way. The oddest experiments serve to lure him away from sleep and his thoughts. He has not forgotten Rom. She chews on him bit by bit, even from the bottom of her watery grave. Like a parasite. He barely realises that he has become what she was.

His hands search for the carcass of the Great One, but she's gone.

Thus he yearns for a surrogate.

Do you think Micolash has ever been happy? Sure he's laughing during his boss fight but is there joy anywhere in that laugh or is it maddening desperation?

I like to think he was once, maybe with a friend or a lover at Byrgenwerth. But then the whole Great One/Kos thing happens they get really jealous when you start to think of someone else.
