Alright bird nerds, buckle up. It's profile picture lore time.
This is an I'iwi (ee-EE-vee) or a Scarlet Honeycreeper. They are endemic only to the Hawaiian Islands and high high altitudes. Although they will sometimes head further down to forage for food, which is flower nectar (unsurprising after peeping that beak). They are in the same family as the American gold Finch and Pine Siskin - which is a fact that blew my mind.
They are at risk from mammal introduction to the islands and avian pox/malaria and scarce food. The 'ōhi'a tree, one of their main food sources, is similarly vulnerable from a fungus that can kill a tree in a matter of days.
This I'iwi was photographed at Hosmer Grove in Haleakalā National Park. We were able to watch them for a few hours before heading up to the summit. I had gotten a few of the photos below, but not up close shots. On our way back down the volcano, I asked my boyfriend if he minded stopping for an extra 20 mins to see if I could get a closer picture. Right as I walked into the grove I got this shot.
Few others from the same day:

#dishonored#the outsider#my favourite thing in your art is the storytelling. there's just so much happening between the purely visual quality of it / the layers of#interpretation. especially with how creative you are with text in your work. and i suppose the “coded” captions too#(idk what they mean but they surely mean something and tbh i like the mystery)#also i love how you render the light in his hair... it's got a nice glossy look#there's something about the composition w/ multiple layers of framing that's just. idk. unsettling in a very good way. 10/10#so very inspiring as always 🙏

"When [Lawrence of Arabia] was in production, screenwriter Michael Wilson was not paying much attention to Lawrence's sexuality. Wilson was more concerned with the theme of colonialism versus nationalism, and Lawrence's scholastic pursuits. This clearly displeased Lean, who wanted to paint more of a controversial character study, albeit on a large canvas, than Wilson had so far achieved. As far as one can judge from Wilson's notes, Lean had two overriding concerns - Lawrence's sexual make-up, and the scene that he would film in Petra. As far as the former is concerned, Wilson noted that Lean had, revealingly, compared the Lawrence-Ali relationship to Brief Encounter, his 1945 film about an unconsummated love affair starring Trevor Howard and Celia Johnson." - Brief Encounters: Lesbians and Gays in British Cinema 1930 – 1971 by Stephen Bourne
BRIEF ENCOUNTER (1945) & LAWRENCE OF ARABIA (1962) dir. David Lean (insp/insp)

Can we talk about this scene? About this shot, to be more specific.
For context, this is set after Lawrence is captured in Deraa, he’s back in Cairo Headquarters, meeting with Allenby. He wants to stop fighting but General Allenby convinces him of going back to the desert, to take Damascus.
Now, the brilliance of this shot is that Lawrence is standing in front of a tapestry depicting the fall of Phaeton.
In greek mythology Phaeton is the son of Apollo and Clymene. When Phaeton asks the Sun-God to prove he’s truly his father Apollo promises to grant him anything he wants. Phaeton asks to drive the chariot of the sun. Apollo tries to dissuade him, explaining that no one but him can master the horses but his son insists. As predicted, Phaeton loses control of the chariot and the horses veer from their course, scorching the earth. Ultimately, Zeus has to kill Phaeton with a thunderbolt.
Heedless of Ali’s warnings, Lawrence claimed he could walk into Deraa and pass for a Bedouin, instead he got captured and tortured; like Phaeton, it was the direct result of his hubris. In this scene, when Allenby offers him money to gather the Arabs, Lawrence declares “The best of them won’t come for money, they’ll come for me.” Deraa was the beginning of his fall but he’s still plummeting down, he’s going to massacre the Turks outside Tafas’ village, and fail to keep order in Damascus. Scorching the earth.
I don’t know if it was David Lean, Freddie Young or someone in the Art Department, but this take is a perfect example of the incredible attention to detail the film displays all throughout. Lawrence’s journey described in one single image.

Well, I'm not so embarrassed anymore, so I'm here to share these wips. Older Laurence! Someone get him a cane, he's tired!
Laurence, my test subject for drawing. Now I wanted to draw his face looking straight ahead, and I got the result I wanted. I think he looks more gaunt, haha.
A vial of blood! It turned out pretty good! The idea of this drawing is basically to fill the canvas with doodles and let go of my perfectionism. I plan to draw Lady Maria and Gehrman in the most primitive and imperfect way, and maybe compare their heights to my Laurence design, see how it turns out.
More headcanons of how I imagine Laurence, haha.
A pathetic and alcoholic guy.
During his stay in Byrgenwerth, he was very ill. I still don't know what illness to give him, but I would like to make a design of him as a young man with crutches.
That's all, I might post the final drawing here. For now, I'd like to think of more ideas for drawing him.
I don't speak English! Sorry if anything is confusing or unclear.
I literally use the translator and my basic understanding of English, which is why I'm sometimes embarrassed. 😭
