RAMBLING Pt. 982726
Ok. So I’ve just watched The Gentlemen for the first time since it was in theatres. There’s just something about a man in a well tailored suit (and/or outfit) that just draws you in. Is it gender envy? Possibly (most likely). Is it the fact that the actors are easy on the eyes? Possibly (most likely). Is it the fabricated physicality of how they carried themselves with hand-to-hand combat, guns, knives, etc? Possibly (most likely).
Regardless of the above, there’s just something about the (well-dressed) men of this movie being manly in a passable (meaning not as oppressively patriarchal), more desirable way under one roof (movie). Examples include and are not exclusive to:
The Coach’s humor and understanding of what he is both willing and unwilling to do in concerns to an ethical code (i.e. owning up for his boys’ mistakes, coming back to help, inviting the young boys to the gym, respecting race and proper pronunciation of someone’s name (to an extent because I know it was more for comedic effect if anything)
Micky screaming MY WIFE (I will not expand of this one) as well as MY QUEEN TOLD ME THAT....he knows where he stands (as he should).
Raymond Smith on multiple accounts, but the idea of his warm house and the way he says home, which reminds me of how someone would say it as if their partner/wife/etc were waiting upstairs for you to come home after a long day
The obvious example of the idea of being smoking a joint in a tub with Raymond Smith
Glasses and glasses only. Amazing job to the costume director.
In summary, it’s basically me projecting my gender envy (I want all the fits). This is word vomit that has allowed me to avoid homework. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

SWAT Guy (Part 3)
(Gif @a-profoundbond)
Summary: Dean gets pulled out into a call and needs Sam for backup when some of his usual guys are out. But something isn’t right about the whole situation and is about to cause a world of trouble for everyone involved...
Masterlist
Pairing: SWAT officer!Dean x reader
Square: Dean Smith
Word Count: 2,300ish
Warnings: language, kidnapping, minor violence
A/N: For the purposes of this story, Sam is the reader’s brother. This was written for @supernatural-jackles Tell Me A Story Bingo. Enjoy!…
_______
“Hi Sammy,” you said. He popped his head up from his desk and smiled. “I’m fine. Dean’s truck is in the shop so I’m picking him up today is all.”
“Lucky you. You get to deal with that hot mess on the way home,” said Sam, waiving his hand across the way. You turned and saw Dean in a suit, reading over a file at his desk.
“Uh, what is he wearing?”
“He was deposed today,” said Sam. You turned back and cocked your head. “It’s like giving a witness statement kinda. We don’t always have time to go to the court house and not every case requires it.”
“He didn’t mention it.”
“I think he forgot. That’s my suit he’s wearing,” said Sam. You looked him over and noticed he was in his workout clothes, a smile crossing your face. “Shut it.”
“You guys are becoming friends,” you grinned.
“He’s a cocky asshole,” said Sam, flipping through some papers. “But he makes you happy.”
“Are his pants rolled up?” you asked with a smirk, catching site of the cuff at the bottom over his work boots.
“Oh trust me. We’ve been ragging on him all day long,” said Sam. “Staying over Dean’s again tonight?”
“Probably,” you said as you started to leave.
“Y/N. Don’t you think you guys are going a little fast?” he asked.
“Sam. He’s been my boyfriend for nearly two months and I’m a big girl,” you said. He held up his hands and your walked around his desk, giving him a hug. “This isn’t another Lou incident.”
“I don’t want to see you get hurt like that again is all.”
“Dean’s different than Lou. Even you can know that.”
“You still fell for Lou.”
“I was in love with the idea of being in love. I didn’t love Lou.”
“Do you think you might love Dean?”
“I could see myself doing that down the road,” you said. “I gotta take Mr. Grumples home so he can get ready to have dinner at our place-”
“No,” groaned Sam, his head thrown back. “I just spent nearly nine hours with the guy.”
“He’s been over there all day and Dean’s downstairs is torn apart from the electrician right now. Come on. He hangs out for one night? Pretty please big brother?” you asked. He rolled his eyes but nodded. “Sucker.”
“You’re cooking,” he said. You hummed and headed across the way to Dean’s office, rattling on the doorway.
“Howdy handsome,” you said. He lifted his head up and grinned. “Look at your cute little suit.”
“I hate it,” he said. “God, stick me in my SWAT uniform any day over this shit.”
“You do look nice, even if the suit doesn’t quite fit,” you said, one of the guys from his SWAT team poking his head in the door. “Hi-”
“We got a hostage situation downtown,” said Henry, Dean jumping out of his seat. “Hey Y/N. Gotta run.”
“Y/N, I’ll see you at my place tonight, okay?” said Dean, ducking out of his office. “It’s gonna be a few hours probably.”
“Okay,” you said, walking forward and grabbing his hand.
“Y/N, I gotta go get suited up,” he said.
“I know,” you said, leaning up and kissing him. “Be safe.”
“Always am,” he said, someone else from his team he recognized jogging down the hall.
“Dean! Hold up!” he called as Dean started to leave. “Micky’s out sick today.”
“Shit. Steve’s on vacation too,” said Dean. “Who’s on the roster?”
“Gary but I know he and his wife are driving up to the lake this weekend. He took a half day. He’s an hour out,” he said. Dean scanned his eyes and looked around the room, biting his bottom lip. “Weston!”
“What?” shouted Sam from his office.
“Dress. Now. Hughie, get him suited up. I want him on strictly surveillance. It’s all he’s cleared for,” said Dean as Sam jogged out of his office. “I said now Weston!”
“Dean,” you said as he started heading down the hall.
“I’ll keep him safe. I promise. I’ll talk to you later sweetheart.”
Four Hours Later
“Oh my God,” you said as Sam walked into the house, still in his SWAT gear. “What is going on? A cop showed up an hour ago and said I couldn’t leave. He’s been parked out front all-”
“Y/N,” said Sam, showing in another man you recognized from their work. “This is Officer Todd. He’s Dean’s supervisor and he’s responsible for the SWAT organization in our department. He needs to ask you some questions.”
“Where’s Dean?” you asked. Officer Todd stared at you and took a deep breath. “Where’s Dean?”
“I need to-”
“Is he dead?” you asked with a thick swallow.
“We don’t believe so,” said the officer.
“How the fuck don’t you know the answer? Either he is or-”
“An erroneous situation happened and we will all yell and place blame at another time. But if you want to help Dean, I need you to answer anything I ask of you and I mean anything,” he said.
“What happened to Dean? Where is he? Is he stuck on your call you-”
“Y/N, we don’t know where he is,” said Sam. You stuck out your neck and Sam shut his eyes. “It was a trap and we fell for it.”
“It was a hostage situation. You-”
“It was a mistake. We believe Dean was the real target. We’re unable to locate him. Now I need you to answer my questions. The sooner we do, the sooner we can find Dean, alright?” asked Officer Todd. You nodded and sat down on the couch, the officer pulling out a notepad.
“Hey,” said the cop that’d been parked in the driveway, Sam and officer Todd long gone. You lifted your head up from the couch where you watched late night TV, the cop giving you a smile. “Can I use your bathroom quick?”
“Around the corner to the left. First door on the right,” you said. He waved and stepped inside, ducking around as you let out a sigh. You tugged your blanket up over yourself, bolting upright when you heard a thud. “Officer Hendricks? You okay?”
You got up and looked around the corner, two men in masks standing there. You turned and bolted for the front door, a foot tripping you along the way, smacking you straight into the ground. You rolled and stared up at them, one of them squatting down close to you.
“We need you to get something for us,” he said. “It’s at the police station. If you get it for us, you can have back your boyfriend.”
“Look at this,” said the other guy, taking a picture off the wall. “She’s with a cop.”
“That ain’t Smith,” said the first guy, looking around the room and spotting a picture of you and Sam from when you were kids. “It’s her brother.”
“He could get it and we bring her with us.” They stared down at you where you’d backed up next to the end table. “It might keep Smith more complacent. We’re gonna need that password eventually and she’ll get us that password.”
You reached into the basket and pulled out the gun hidden there, both men more in awe than anything else.
“No I don’t think you two understand how this works,” you said, standing up. “You tell me where Dean is and maybe I don’t shoot your dicks off if I like the answer.”
“She wouldn’t-” You pulled the trigger and shot the shorter one in the thigh, the other guy jumping.
“That was a warning shot. Now where’s Dean?”
Three Hours Later
You spun around in the office chair you’d been sat in for over an hour, slumped down and checking out of the door every few minutes.
“Hey,” said Sam, suddenly in the doorway. You turned and he was smiling, looking to his right. “Got somebody who says they owe you one.”
Dean smirked as he stepped into view, a black eye and scuffed up cheek but he looked relatively okay. You got up and gave him a hug, Dean laughing to himself.
“So you can cook and have that level of marksmanship? You’re the full package, aren’t ya,” said Dean, squeezing you tight.
“Are you okay?” you asked.
“He’s fine. A few scrapes. Bigger issue is what these guys wanted,” said Sam.
“I’ve got the security code to our SWAT arsenal. It’s located near the back so it’s pretty easy to get in and out if you have the code,” he said.
“So it wasn’t you they wanted?”
“Just the info I had. The electrician at my house the past few days wasn’t a real one. They were snooping through my crap, trying to find it written down somewhere.”
“There’s a lot of stuff in that room that we don’t want on the street,” said Sam. “This is my case now. Something bigger is going on we don’t know about yet.”
“It’s highly unlikely they’d try that method of getting access again,” said Dean, glancing to Sam. “But Sam and I think it might be a good idea if I stayed with you guys for a while, until this settles down.”
“So you’re the one that gets kidnapped and I stop a kidnapping and save you yet I’m the one that needs protection,” you said.
“God no. I want you watching my back,” said Dean. “I’m the wimp around here.”
You smiled and he gave you a kiss, wincing a little as you noticed the split lip.
“If that’s okay with you that is.”
“Yeah,” you said, Sam ducking past you into his office. “Hey. When were you gonna tell me you signed up for the backup squad?”
“I thought it might help me look at things from a different perspective,” said Sam.
“You just wanted to wear the pants. They do make your ass look great I gotta say, Sammy,” teased Dean.
“Can you go get kidnapped again or something?” said Sam, stretching in his seat. “I gotta write up my report. Take him home Y/N. They’re leaving a few officers just in case.”
“I can do that,” you said. “Don’t stay too late, Sam.”
“I won’t,” said Sam, Dean leaving your side to head into his office.
“Y/N,” said Sam quietly. “Keep an eye on him. It might be a rough night for him.”
“He told you.”
“That he’s got PTSD? Yeah when we debriefed him he told me,” said Sam. “So keep an eye on him.”
“You tell him you do too?” you asked.
“No. Someday,” he said as Dean came back with his backpack. “I’ll see you guys later.”
“Later Sammy,” said Dean with a wave.
“I’m regretting this already.”
“Ouch,” hissed Dean as you put a new bandage on his writs at home. “That hurts.”
“You’re supposed to change them every few hours and your other ones were all bloody. This cream is supposed to help you not scar,” you said, undoing his other wrist. He pouted as you removed the roll, his right wrist as torn up and scabbed as the left was. You ran your thumb over the back of his hand and he yanked it to his chest. You held up your hands and he offered it back slowly. “It’s alright.”
You tried to be more gentle as you put on the cream, carefully wrapping up the wrist again. Dean put his hands in his lap while you put the rest of the first aid stuff in your bathroom. You found him still sat on top of your bed when you returned, Dean picking at the bandage on his ankle.
“Is there anything I can do to make you feel better?” you asked.
“I’m sorry I put you in danger.” He kept his head down and you sat beside him, tucking your knees into your chest.
“You didn’t put me in danger. Bad people did. If it wasn’t you it would have been your supervisor or someone else that knew that code. They thought you were the easiest to get to was all. Now is there anything I can do to make you feel better?”
“Hold onto me tonight?” he asked.
“That I can do.” You wrapped your arms around him and he rested his head on your shoulder. “Want to talk about it?”
“Not tonight. But I will. I’ll tell you about the other stuff someday too.”
“Okay,” you said. “It’s pretty late. How about I get you some of Sam’s clothes to sleep in?”
“That big hoodie over there looks pretty nice,” he said, nodding to the one draped over your chair. You slid away and got up, helping him into it, tugging it down.
“Looks good on you,” you said. You turned on your corner light and hit off the main switch, pulling back the covers for both of you to get under.
“Y/N?” You hummed as you tugged the blankets up and wrapped your arms around him. “Be careful. Sam was right. Whoever wanted those weapons is still out there. They want to do something bad.”
“I will be. Seems like a lot of trouble to go through to steal some guns.”
“It’s not just guns in there. Maybe you got a point. Maybe they want something else in there,” said Dean.
“We’ll bring it up tomorrow. Tonight let’s try to relax okay?”
“Okay,” he said, taking a deep breath, closing his eyes. “Thanks sweetheart.”
“Tomorrow’ll be better Dean, I promise.”

Dan Stevens & audiobooks
Many of you will already know that Dan has narrated, or rather performed, more than 30 audiobooks as well as numerous and varied radio dramas & readings.
However, many do not know or realise what a masterful grasp he has on languages, dialects, accents and the ages of the characters, whether they be man or woman, boy or girl.
I am listening, again, to “Fall of Giants” by Ken Follett which has one of the broadest range of characters, each one of which is amazingly “inhabited” by Dan.
Below is a very long list of characters in that book - and remember each is portrayed differently by Dan which makes it such an enjoyable “listen”. It is an amazing performance and I truly hope that one day he will find some time to provide us with more audiobooks to enjoy.
Those who already enjoy these works will need no convincing, and they will have many favourites, as do I, especially work such “My Dear I Wanted To Tell You”, “The Invisible Ones”, “History of A Pleasure Seeker”, “Wolf Hall”, “War Horse”.......and more

Dear Gus,
Today’s Leadership Greater Little Rock session was focused on education, but it was a weird one because the coronavirus is rushing into the state. I woke up around 5am to send emails cancelling our Saturday night ARS event. (And later today the Central Arkansas Library System will cancel my book launch event.) Our panels included UA-Little Rock Chancellor Dr. Christina Drale, Philander Smith College President Dr. Roderick Smothers, LR Christian Academy Principal Dr. Gary Arnold, eStem Charter School Principal John Bacon, LR Central High School Principal Nancy Rousseau, and James Reddish from the LR Chamber to talk about Ford Next Generation Learning in Central Arkansas Schools. We were also supposed to have superintendents from area schools, but they all cancelled because the state was insane. Our meeting was at the Arkansas State University offices across the street from the state capitol building, where the governor addressed the crisis in a press conference, but we watched it on television together. Since we’re all a bunch of leaders in various fields, everyone was texting and calling like mad, scrambling to cancel events we were leading. I know it’s vastly different, but I couldn’t help but note a similar feeling to when terrorists flew hijacked planes into the World Trade Towers in 2001. It’s the way these crises heighten the collective anxiety of a room. In a weird way--as terrible as it is--I love the rush of it. Reminds me of being at The Defense Information School at Ft. Meade, when they put our class in a giant Army tent and let us run communications from there about mock incidents. I can still remember fielding calls about a (mock) helicopter crash. I loved the thrill of it all. But this threat is real, and you and Papou are especially susceptible to it, and that terrifies me.
After the superintendents cancelled their panel, the chamber threw together a panel with the folks they could find in the building, so ASU System President Dr. Chuck Welch and ASU VP of Government Relations Shane Broadway spoke to us about higher education in Arkansas and how it interacts with the government. It ended up being my favorite panel of the day. Shane Broadway and Papa were good friends, so it was nice to catch up with him.
After all the panels finished, the Leadership Fayetteville kids joined us for cocktails on the patio. They were in town for their government session, but the capitol shut down this afternoon, so they won’t be able to finish their session. We were supposed to have our military-focused session next week at Little Rock Air Force Base, but they cancelled it today. It’s a weird time.
Dad.
Little Rock, Arkansas. 3.12.2020 - 1.53pm.
SIDENOTE 1: We got word that Pulaski County Schools would be closing while we had the three principals on the panel. They got the word at the same time we did. The eStem principal sighed and said something about having to deal with parents. The LR Christian guy puffed up his chest and said something to the effect of “We’re private and no one can tell us if we’re cancelling school.” The LR Central principal said, “I’ve got to find a way to feed my kids. So many of them get their only meals in our cafeteria.” Mom and I already talked about wanting you to go to Central, but still, I texted her in that moment to say, “I would put up a strong fight to get our kids to Central.” Because I want you in a school where the leaders care about the students they’re responsible for more than anything else.
SIDENOTE 2: I got a Facebook message from Ross Jefferson this morning letting me know that my friend Micky Stuart was killed in a head-on collision last night. Tomorrow, his wife will call me and ask me to write his obituary, which you can read here. And here’s another thing I wrote about him.

Top 25 Doctor Who episodes
They are in chronological order, from season 1 (2005) to season 11 (2018), not of preference, two parters are counted as one episode. (edit: I had forgotten about “Midnight, so there are 26 now instead of 25, ops?)
★ S01E06 "Dalek" this episode really made me love the 9th doctor, Christopher performance was fantastic, I wish they had given him more time on the show so that we could have seen more of that rage.
★ S01E09-10 "The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances", this will be no surprise to anyone because it's a fan favourite of almost everyone, but that's because it's such a well written episode, creepy and intriguing, original and with a beautiful and heartwarming ending. That "For once everybody lives" always makes me tear up a bit.
★S01E12-13 "Bad Wolf/The Parting of Ways", RTD has always had beautiful endings and this surely is one, emotional and beautiful, but also funny at times. The final part where Rose looked into the TARDIS and her interactions with the Daleks was badass as fuck, and her interaction with the Doctor was beautiful. And let's not talk about "You were fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. And you know what? So was I!"
★ S02E08-09 "The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit", this is such an underrated episode but a brilliant one. It's scary and it always keeps you on your toes because you don't know what's going to happen. I didn't appreciate it enough the first time I saw, only when I rewatched it I realized how good it was.
★S02E12-13 "Army of Ghosts/Doomsday", of course this is going to be on the list, Rose was my first companion and seeing her go was a devastating experience that I can't forget. I remember seeing this episode for the first time and crying like a baby just during the initial monologue "[...] But then came the Army of Ghosts. Then came Torchwood and the war. That's when it all ended. This is the story of how I died." Still crying over this. And let's not talk about the wall scene. You know which one.
★S03E01 "Smith and Jones", when I first watched season 3 I didn't appreciate it enough because I was mourning Rose's departure and couldn't get over it, however, when I rewatched it, I finally was able to appreciate this season because it's a really good season. I know this episode is an odd choice, not a lot of people talk about this specific episode, but I think it's a really good episode, really enjoyable, but not too heavy, and Martha in this episode is absolutely brilliant, we can see just how smart and brave and smart and smart she really is.
★ S03E08-09 "Human Nature/The Family of Blood", this is another really popular and loved episode by the fandom, and again, there is a really good reason. This episode it's fun but also emotional, it's really original and super intriguing. And of course we can't forget to mention the "fury of a time lord", that scene where he punishes the family of blood is just perfect. Loved it.
★ S03E12-13 "The sound of Drums/Last of the time lords", as I said, RTD finales are absolutely brilliant, and this, like the others, is brilliant too. It shows what a complete badass Martha is, traveling the world all alone because she is a woman on a mission. I didn't really like how the doctor got back to normal, but let's not think about it too much. My favourite scene ever, that gave me the chills is when Martha finds out what's inside those robots, it still gives me chills every time I see that scene.
★S04e08-09 "Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead", again, this is a really predictable episode, but it is a beautiful two parter. The villain is brilliant and super scary, the whole concept of the episode is brilliant and it's executed perfectly, and we are also introduced to River, for whom we are sad when she dies the first time we see it but it's so much better when you rewatch the episode after having watched all the other episodes with her, including The husband of River Song, which take place right after this episode.
★ S04E10 "Midnight" do I even have to explain why this episode, which is loved by everyone, is in this list? I don't think so.
★ S04E11 "Turn Left", this episode is criminally underrated. I LOVE this episode with all of my heart. When people talk about Blink, they praise it because it was brilliant even tho the doctor wasn't even in it, well this is brilliant and the doctor isn't in it. This episode is so devastating to watch trough the eyes of a human, the devastation and pain that is caused by the fact that the doctor is not there to save earth is just, you know, devastating. I don't know how to explain how much I love this episode.
★ S04E12-13 "The stolen earth/Journey's end" another beautiful finale from RDT. Not only because it's a beautiful episode but also because we got EVERYONE in this episode, Rose, Jack, Martha, Sarah Jane, Donna, Micky, Jakie literally everyone was there, and it was just beautiful to finally see again some old friends.
★ S05E01 "The Eleventh Hour" this was a perfect introduction to the new doctor, we needed something strong that could make us like him after loosing Tennant, someone that everyone loved, and this episode did it. Matt did and incredible job in this episode, which introduces to Amy and Rory, the crack in time and space and the new doctor. I loved the episode and 11 speech was just phenomenal, really made me like him instantly.
★ S05E02 "The beast below", I guess this can be considered an odd choice, because I never hear anyone talk about this specific episode, but I loved it, it was fun and it also showed us a bit more about the doctor, how he is, what's his moral compass like, how he acts and reacts to things, and also we learned more about Amy. The plot was really interesting and cool, at time a bit creepy but also really sad because of what happened to that whale-thing.
★S05E04-05 "The time of angels/Flesh and stone", I actually have no clue of how people feel about this episode, but I personally really loved them, we got the angels, the crack in time and space, cool moments with River, Amy and the doctor, it was exciting and it was cool, but also a bit emotional at times.
★S05E12-13 "The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang" Moffat showed us that he could make a good finale too. I really loved this finale, it's so exciting and it ties a lot of ends together, which is always cool to see it happen. The Pandorica speech is one of my favourite moments ever and also we got Rory back. Really awesome ending that didn't leave you underwhelmed and it was completely satisfying.
★ S06E01-02 "The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon" is one, if not the best opener ever. It just keeps you hooked and excited, not only for these two episodes, but for the whole season. The episode literally starts with the death of the doctor, and then it introduced a new and cool villain that is the Silence.
★S06E04 "The doctor's wife" is one of the best episodes ever, it has a cool and we'll executed concept, it's really emotional but also cool as hell? And it also has one of my favourite quotes ever "Fear me I've killed hundreds of time lords" "Fear me, I've killed all of them".
★ S06E07 "A Good Man Goes To War" is just PERFECT, the plot twist were brilliant, they left me speechless, I cry and laughed and I just loved the episode. Bonus points because in this episode Rory was a complete badass. It has my favourite doctor who quote of all times
"Demons run when a good man goes to war
Night will fall and drown the sun
When a good man goes to war
Friendship dies and true love lies
Night will fall and the dark will rise
When a good man goes to war
Demons run, but count the cost
The battle's won, but the child is lost"
★ S06E08 "Let's Kill Hitler", from what I saw people don't really love this episode, but I absolutely did love it and this is my list, so here it is.
★S06E10 "The Girl Who Waited" this episode was really devastating but so so beautiful, this is another fan favourite, at least it was before, I haven't heard a lot people talk about it recently. But again, there is a good reason if it is so loved.
★ S06E11 "The God Complex" surprisingly I haven't seen anyone ever talk about this episode even though it absolutely brilliant and spectacular. It's not a really heavy episode, but heavy enough. It's also a bit of a strange episode, but not in a bad way.
★ The day of the doctor/The time of the doctor
★ S08E05 "Time Heist" this is not a really popular episode and I saw a lot of people say that they didn't like it, however I did, probably because I'm a slut for heist movies and this episode combined two things that I love, Doctor Who and Heist Movies.
★ S08E08 "Mummy on the Orient Express", this episode really blew me out of the way, it was just brilliant. I don't even know what to say, it just was.
★ S09E11 "Heaven Sent" (I know I said that two parters would count as one episode but I HATED Hell Bent, I'm not going to get into why or it'll take to long) This episode was probably one the best doctor who episodes ever , the acting was phenomenal, Capaldi is just great, and the plot and dialogue and monologue and plot twist and everything. Even if you don't like doctor who this is episode is great. It has my favourite quote:
"As you come into this world, something else is also born.
You begin your life, and it begins a journey towards you. It moves slowly, but it never stops.
Wherever you go, whatever path you take, it will follow me. Never faster, never slower, always coming.
You will run. It will walk.
You will rest. It will not
One day, you will linger in the same place too long. You will sit too still or sleep too deep, and when, too late, you raise to go, you will notice a second shadow next to yours. Your life will then be over."
★ S10E11 "World Enough And Time" (In this case I did like episode 12 but it wasn't good enough to make it into the list) This episode left me speechless, I really wasn't expecting this episode to be that good. Absolutely loved this episode, it was brilliant.

Track01: An anthem to the club owner. It empowers rebellion in the way she walks. A song she played while getting ready for her high school prom. (In which she hadn’t wanted to go.) While her mother convinced her to wear a dress, hand sewn and all, Lou rebelled in a slick suit. -- After successfully stealing a girl away from her boyfriend, Lou skipped her senior prom. Her and the girl ended up sitting at the top of the city’s water tower screaming their teen angst at the world, and making out. --- You've got your mother in a whirl . She's not sure if you're a boy or a girl. Hey babe, your hair's alright. Hey babe, let's go out tonight. You like me, and I like it all. We like dancing and we look divine ---
Track02: About a man who doesn’t have enough money, so he robs, becoming a criminal to support his wife. One day he gets caught and is sent to jail. After a winding bike trip across the country, at a stop looking out at a view Lou had put her earbuds in after an entire ride of silence. Debbie had just gone to jail and playing this song made her mind collect an easing nature. She even chuckled to herself. As she was going to show up at Debbie’s loft with an apology, and even an emotional confrontation about how she felt over the woman. The timing was off, as she approached an empty loft finding out that Debbie was in jail.--- I left my baby and it feels so bad guess my race is run. She's the best girl that I ever had I fought the law and the law won ---
Track03: Song is about a woman who lives her life through materialism. Then when she’s on her way to heaven she’s not sure she will get in because she lacks spiritualism. That her fate is decided, she looks at life thinking if she asks she can receive anything. Though you can’t choose fate, you can look at your life and choose an enlightenment. Being a criminal, along the way Lou had become emerged in materialism. Everything was at her fingertips causing her to lose a sense of her mind. She began traveling more, taking her bike out on long journeys at the time. Being alone wandering the world brought her back down to earth in a humbling way. --- Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run. There's still time to change the road you're on. ---
Track09: Song being about romance with a transvestite has nothing to do with Lou’s meaning, but more so how often she has drunkenly sang the song with her bartender, Micky. When Lou would stay over after the club closed early in the morning, when others were passed out at home, she often danced around using a mop as a microphone. In her dramatics, she would sing with a cigarette hanging out of her mouth, aviators low on the bridge of her nose. They were nights she cherished most with the other woman. The song holds a heavier sentiment now as she stopped hanging around the club less, and less. Sometimes the tune is played to reminisce over the nights spent with the admired woman. --- Well that's the way that I want it to stay and I always want it to be that way for my Lola Lo lo lo lo Lola ---
Track16: While Debbie was away for five years, Lou had met a woman. She was younger, and more importantly not a criminal. She carried herself with a sense of innocence that lured Lou in like a breath of fresh air. The beginning felt a lot like falling in love, and that’s what it was. Lou hadn’t experienced a heavy romantic love before such as this one. She was beginning to act strange around the people who she knew, and there was a never ending giddy feeling left within her all because of this woman who had stolen her heart. --- Can you hear me calling out your name. You know that I'm falling and I don't know what to say ---

New Post has been published on https://freenews.today/2021/04/17/d-wade-leaps-into-ownership-with-stake-in-jazz/
D-Wade leaps into ownership with stake in Jazz
Three-time NBA champion Dwyane Wade has purchased an ownership stake in the Utah Jazz, joining majority owner and team governor Ryan Smith with plans to take an active role in the franchise and region.
Wade, an eight-time All-NBA player with the Miami Heat, is the latest of several Hall of Fame-level players with NBA ownership stakes, including Grant Hill (Atlanta Hawks), Shaquille O’Neal (Sacramento Kings) and Charlotte Hornets majority owner Michael Jordan. Magic Johnson previously had a 4% stake in the Los Angeles Lakers.
“This goes way beyond the dream I had to just play basketball in the NBA,” Wade told ESPN. “I’ve seen Shaq do it in Sacramento. I’ve seen Grant Hill do it in Atlanta. I’ve seen Jordan do it in Charlotte. If this partnership is going to be anything like my relationship is with Ryan, there are going to be a lot of things that I’ll want to be involved in. …
“Unfortunately, people in my community don’t get this opportunity, and I do not take it lightly to have this opportunity. To make real change, this is where you have to be — at the top — and Ryan knows that. I’m thankful for him, and I know too that I bring a lot to this partnership outside of just my basketball knowledge and skills.”
Wade, 39, met Smith on a San Clemente, California, golf course shortly after his retirement from playing in 2019, and they became fast friends. Wade wanted to understand about Smith’s tech empire, including his company Qualtrics, and calls him a mentor. Smith, 42, raised the idea of Wade joining the ownership group upon completing a $1.66 billion purchase of the Jazz in October.
The NBA has a bylaw that ownership stakes can be no less than 1% of the team, but Wade’s financial investment in the franchise is not immediately clear.
Dwyane Wade is joining Grant Hill (Hawks), Shaquille O’Neal (Kings) and Hornets majority owner Michael Jordan as Hall of Fame-level players with NBA ownership stakes. Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports
Wade joins a small ownership group that includes Smith and his wife, Ashley; investor and Accel partner Ryan Sweeney; Atlassian co-founder Mike Cannon-Brookes; and the Miller family, which previously owned the team.
“Dwyane has had a chance to be part of so many different [ownership] groups if he wanted that,” Smith told ESPN. “We’ve basically been in discussion from the time we closed on the team on how we can get this done. Like I run my tech business, you want the brightest people around.
“There is a broad picture here. It’s much more than just basketball. This league is the biggest platform that there is, and we ran toward that. This isn’t a league where we came in saying, ‘Hey, this has gone somewhere we’re not comfortable with.’ This is actually what we signed up for. We’re the newest ownership group. We’re the youngest. Dwyane’s a perfect fit.
“It wasn’t like we wanted more partners; that wasn’t what we were trying to do. I want to work with Dwyane on and off the court, on the business side, and so do our partners — because of who he is as a human being and what he’s accomplished. Those are the kinds of people you want around.”
Wade didn’t say whether he had significant conversations with Heat ownership surrounding a financial stake in the franchise where he spent 14-plus seasons of his career. He described his strong personal relationship with Smith and a shared vision for that business partnership as the driving force for securing the Jazz stake.
“The respect I that I have for that [Heat] organization will not go anywhere, the love that I have for the [Heat] fans — that goes nowhere,” Wade told ESPN. “But this is about the next phase of my life as an investor, a businessman, an entrepreneur. For me, this is an opportunity to grow.”
Heat owner Micky Arison on Twitter expressed disappointment that Wade didn’t reconsider a stake in the Miami franchise after previous negotiations, adding that he wished Wade “good luck and much success with the Jazz.”
Wade described a synergy to Smith’s progressive vision of transforming the Jazz’s success on the court — including a league-leading 41-14 record — into becoming a cultural leader in the community and state. Beyond Smith’s lifelong love of the Jazz and basketball, his devotion to social causes made the organization an easy sell to Wade. Smith has dedicated a four-year college scholarship to an underserved student for every Jazz victory this season and partnered with Apple CEO Tim Cook to invest $4 million into the construction of eight Encircle homes, which provide safe-haven homes for LGBTQ youth and their families. Smith has embraced the Black Lives Matter movement, publicly supporting his players on those issues.
“We’re not running away from the racial and social and LGBTQ conversations,” Wade told ESPN. “I’m committed to doing the work. I talk about the LGBTQ community, which everyone knows is important to me. My daughter is part of that community.
“I don’t look at this as only a Utah Jazz relationship. I look at this as a relationship that’s multifaceted — business, basketball, me being able to bring Ryan into my world just as he’s bringing me into his world.”
Wade has had a strong relationship with Jazz All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell, who has regularly been compared to Wade since his arrival in the NBA.
“I call him 2.0,” Wade told ESPN. “If there’s a player similar to me, it’s Donovan Mitchell.”
Before the coronavirus pandemic, Mitchell had spent time shadowing Wade in South Florida.
“He wanted to ride in the car with me, go to the gym and shoot, and really wanted to pick my brain,” Wade said. “He’s on that short list of people who call me and talk for hours. We’ve got a big brother-little brother relationship.”
That relationship will have an opportunity to grow, and so will Wade’s role on the basketball side with the Jazz. Saying “they have the right people in place,” Wade sees an opportunity to pick his spots to contribute on the team side.
From free-agent meetings to individual counsel, Wade said he is fully invested in the franchise’s future. Wade, wife Gabrielle Union and family live in Los Angeles, a short flight from Utah. They spent Valentine’s Day skiing in Park City. “I fell on my ass a lot of times,” Wade said. “Ryan is showing us every inch of Utah.”
Said Smith: “Every city in every state is looking at leaders in their community to help. Whether it’s Minnesota, New York or L.A., what we do is something that can be leveraged to drive the culture of an entire [region]. That’s the work Dwyane and our group are talking about. We’re in a world where basketball is uniting this state when everything else in the world is trying to divide us. If we can take that platform and do good and lead and write change for the future, we can look back and say, ‘Wow, that’s what legacy is about.'”

Picture portraying the Celtic hero god, Lugh. Credit to Mickie Mueller, you can see their signature in the bottom right hand corner.
This is my first post in what I hope to be a series, the Tuatha de Danann breakdown. Feel free to suggest who I should do next.
-Aelish
Lugh is the Celtic hero god of sun and storm. He is a jack of all trades and a warrior, young and handsome with thick curly red hair. When he was a child the god Manannan took him to Tir-nan-Oge where for twenty-one years Lugh grew. Manannan spoke to Lugh and gave him his sword, his horse which could ride over land or water, his helmet and breastplate. Then Lugh made his way to Ireland. After arriving to Ireland he made his way on foot to the dun of Nuada where he was told he needed a craft they did not already have within if he was to enter. The king approved his entrance after hearing Lugh alone could do everything his court members could combined. He was called the Ildana, the master of every craft.
When the sons of Turann killed Lugh’s father, Cian, the wind and the Earth told Lugh and let him to the body. To avenge the Earth and his father Lugh told King Nuada what the three brothers had done and sent them to gather many treasures with the boat of Manannan to pay for their crimes. When they returned to Ireland with all the treasures the brothers passed away. They met Cian in Tir-na-Moe, he gave them each a golden apple. When they ate the apples they knew everything that had ever happened in the world and everything that ever would. They knew the Tuatha de Danann would defeat the Fomor. It is there in Moy Mell they wait for news of the victory.
The Tuatha de Danann went to war with the Fomorians with the aid of Lugh and his companions from Tir-nan-Oge. In this great battle Lugh killed his grandfather, Balor of the Evil Eye. Some sources say he did so by thrusting his spear into the Fomorian’s eye, other sources say he used his sling. After the battle Lugh was named king as Nuada had been killed. He ruled for twenty (some sources say fourty) years. He had five wives, one unnamed wife had been seduced by Cermait, son of Dagda. Lugh killed him for this. Cermait’s three sons, Mac Cuill, Mac Cecht and Mac Grené drowned Lugh in the lake now called Loch Lugborta. He was succeeded as High King by Dagda.

Whoniverse LGBT+ characters
Just me keeping a list for myself of all the LGBT+ characters of the Whoniverse. Mainly inspired by these posts here.
Notes: I only know characters from the TV shows, not from the audios, video games and comics. If you do know those and you want a character added, just tell me.
Also, I see "canon Whoniverse" as very broad, so I also included original plans and deleted scenes. I also added more background information to all the background/guest characters, since they can be a bit obscure, and I also added additional information to main/recurring characters if necessary.
Lastly, since this show deals with travel through time and space, it is true that some species/races/people from a certain time or place don’t use the same language as we do. For this post, contemporary language is used anyway, because unfortunately, Doctor Who and time travel don’t exist in real life.

From the TARDIS Wiki: “In the 1970s, Liz Shaw was engaged to Michael, who died. (AUDIO: Primord) By 2015, she was in a relationship with Patricia Haggard, the ministry liaison for P.R.o.B.e. The two lived together and moved to Spain. (HOMEVID: When to Die)” and “The reveal in HOMEVID: When to Die that Liz was in a same-sex relationship with Patsy retroactively makes her the first onscreen LGBT companion of the Doctor.”

From the TARDIS Wiki: “In an alternate timeline, Adric had a wife and children, and after her death he married a man. (AUDIO: A Full Life)”
Dr. Judson (gay)
From the TARDIS Wiki: “In an interview included in the DVD release of The Curse of Fenric, writer Ian Briggs revealed that the story's Dr Judson was intended to be — like the man he was based on, Alan Turing — struggling with his homosexuality, but this was ultimately cut as it was not at the time considered appropriate to discuss such topics in a family programme. Briggs instead transformed Turing's frustration at being unable to express his true sexual identity into Judson's frustration at being disabled. (DCOM: The Curse of Fenric)”
Mathematician in The Curse of Fenric.
Nyssa Traken (unclear)
Is dating Tegan, revealed in Farewell, Sarah Jane
Tegan Jovanka (unclear)

Mike Yates (gay?)
From the TARDIS Wiki: “...while Third Doctor-era recurring character Mike Yates was "outed" as gay in PROSE: Happy Endings (although there is no suggestion of this in the televised episodes, which showed him flirting with Jo Grant on occasion).”
Katy Manning is a big Gay Mike Yates truther.
Ace (lesbian?)
From the TARDIS Wiki: “According to Rona Munro, the writer of Survival, there was to be a lesbian subtext to the relationship between Ace and Karra. This raises the possibility of Ace being the first intentionally LGBT companion on screen, (DOC: Cat-Flap) although she would not be the first taking retrospective continuity into account, as Liz Shaw was established to not be heterosexual long after her televised era, through her romantic relationship with Patricia Haggard.”
Harry Sullivan (gay?)
From the TARDIS Wiki: “Harry Sullivan, another Fourth Doctor companion, was originally planned to be referenced along with a boyfriend in the 2017 episode Knock Knock from Series 10. In the final version of the episode that was broadcast, a character named Harry still mentioned his grandfather and his grandfather's boyfriend, but the lines that identified the grandfather as Harry Sullivan were cut, on the grounds that viewers in 2017 may not remember a companion from forty years earlier.”
Leela (unclear)
From the TARDIS Wiki: “While working on the 2020 Time War: Volume Three story Unity, producer/director Scott Handcock and Louise Jameson discussed whether to make Leela's relationship with Veega, a woman with whom she lived for many years and raised a child, overtly romantic. Ultimately, it was decided to leave the exact nature of the Leela and Veega's relationship open for interpretation. (BFX: Unity)”

It is unclear if Owen genuinely likes men, or only kisses them to impress women.
Torchwood has been described as a team of disaster bisexuals, so that would include Owen as well.
Gwen Cooper (bi)
From the TARDIS Wiki: “Gwen herself, while predominantly heterosexual, expressed interest in her female hairdresser. (AUDIO: Love Rat) “
John Hart (omni)
From the TARDIS Wiki: "Like Jack, he was omnisexual, taking a sexual interest in both males and females, and, once, even a poodle, which he found "gorgeous". He and Jack were once lovers and, according to Jack, John was the wife in their relationship. (TV: Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang)"

Class:
Charlie Smith (gay)
Matteuz Andrzejewski (gay)
Tanya Adeola (pan/bi)
If Class had continued, Tanya would’ve come out: “Patrick and I first talked, as we often do, over burgers in London,” writes Juno Dawson (writer). “He was keen to get YA writers into the show. TV is really hard to break into and he wanted to knock down some walls for us. My episode was centred on Vivian’s character [Tanya] and had a Ferris Bueller vibe in that it saw her taking a day out of her life to try being someone else. We’d talked about her being pansexual or bi too.”
Other media (thank you mimeflower on PF for the information):
Fitz Kreiner (bi)
From the TARDIS Wiki: "While there is no major confirmation of Fitz being anything other than heterosexual, The Blue Angelbriefly indicates that Fitz may be bisexual. Other novels such as The Year of Intelligent Tigers, The Book of the Still, History 101, Time Zero, and Halflife make strong implications regarding his relationship with the Doctor, as well as other male characters like Sasha and George Williamson."
Companion to the Eight Doctor in the books
Oliver Harper (gay)
From the TARDIS Wiki: "As of December 2018, Oliver is, chronologically, the earliest known non-heterosexual human companion of the Doctor, from an in-universe point of view."
Companion to the First Doctor in the audio series
Izzy Sinclair (lesbian)
From the TARDIS Wiki: "The revelation that Izzy is a lesbian makes her the first unmistakably LGBT companion, and the first modern-day Earth companion without a heterosexual orientation. (...) By contrast, Izzy is fully and clearly shown to passionately kiss Fey, and to have dialogue which confirms her feelings."
Companion to the Eight Doctor in the comics
Chris Cwej (omni)
From the TARDIS Wiki: “The book which depicts Chris's sexual encounter with a gay man, Damaged Goods, was written by future executive producer of the series, Russell T Davies, whose works often include gay themes. Much like Jack Harkness, an LGBT companion introduced to the TV series in Steven Moffat's The Empty Child, Cwej opines that sexuality is not an issue where he comes from. This same-sex encounter was released just before the debut of Izzy Sinclair, the oft-cited first LGBT companion, in October 1996. In the same year, Jason Kane would casually introduce himself as someone who has slept with 9 women, 5 men, and various humanoid aliens. (PROSE: Death and Diplomacy)”
Companion to the Seventh Doctor in the books and audio series (?)
Jason Kane (omni)

From the TARDIS Wiki: “James Goss and Scott Handcock revealed that the character was pitched by Russell T Davies, who helped to develop Aliens Among Us for Big Finish Productions. rory williams, micky smith, danny pink, captain jack for the character thing
so i am rly bitter i just lost all my answers for these bc my computer froze but anyway i love you and i will do it again
Why I like them: he’s so loving to his wife and considerate and brave but he doesn’t need everyone to know that he’s content how he is
Why I don’t: his whole “i love you more than you love me” thing um every time moffat does smthg like that to rory i lose a year of my life
Favorite episode (scene if movie): the girl who waited i think
Favorite season/movie: 5!!
Favorite line: i’d forgotten that not all victories are about saving the universe:
Favorite outfit: centurion outfit duh
OTP: amy/rory
Brotp: rory/doctor
Head Canon: he and captain jack (and other friends of the doctor) became friends during the time he spent waiting for amy
Unpopular opinion: him coming back to life all the time isn’t actually that funny (it was okay) it was just bad writing
A wish: that maybe i see him again before we finish s10??
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: pls don’t let moffat ruin his characterization if he ever does come back
5 words to best describe them: the love of my life
My nickname for them: roranicus
mickey smith: (i’m bitter this deleted bc i had the BEST RESPONSE)
Why I like them: he ultimately gave up the girl he loved and left home to stay in a parallel world bc he finally found his true purpose in life and even though he wasn’t always the best boyfriend to rose he did his best to do right by her and he deserves the world
Why I don’t: this is so hard?? i guess how he treated the shop girl he dated when rose left
Favorite episode (scene if movie): hm i quite like boom town but i’d have to say rise of the cybermen/age of steel
Favorite season/movie: s1
Favorite line:You left me! We were nice, we were happy. And then what? You give me a kiss and you run off with him, and you make me feel like nothing, Rose. I was nothing. I can’t even go out with a stupid girl from a shop because you pick up the phone and I comes running. I mean, is that what I am, Rose, standby? Am I just supposed to sit here for the rest of my life, waiting for you? Because I will. (DISCLAIMER: not his best moment, but one of his most compelling and interesting ones)
Favorite outfit: hm. his UNIT one?? i liked that one
OTP: mickey/martha to the death
Brotp: him/doctor, him/jack, him/rose, although i think nine/mickey and also mickey/jackie are my faves
Head Canon: him and jackie became rly close while rose was gone and he became something like a son to her and cared for her all the time even though she thought he murdered rose once
Unpopular opinion: i think he is one of the best characters ever to come out of doctor who. i also think he was good since the very first episode, he didn’t even grow into it. his arc is absolutely amazing and his sense of self worth makes me want to cry. he treated rose well even when he was hurting, and though he could have done better, he didn’t purposefully guilt her into anything. he’s such a compelling, relatable character
A wish: that ppl would appreciate him more. also that he and rose still found some way to keep in touch when they were in different universes (I KNOW BUT LET A GIRL DREAM)
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: don’t forget him?? he’s so important.
5 words to best describe them: underrated, underrated, underrated, underrated, underrated
My nickname for them: rickey or tin dog (ik i suck)
danny pink:
Why I like them: he was a caring guy who was great with the kiddies.
Why I don’t: he didn’t get enough screen time and he gave clara a lot of ultimatums (they should have been better to each other)
Favorite episode (scene if movie): dark water i guesS?
Favorite season/movie: hahahaha 9 (jkjk)
Favorite line: “one person is more amazing than universes”
Favorite outfit: in the forest of the night
otp: oswink i s’pose
brotp: him/doctor ig…. honestly the relationship was shafted bc of the dumb “i hate soldiers” arc
Head Canon: his soul lived on post death in heaven and that he managed to find peace within himself
Unpopular opinion: he had potential but he was too rory-like and underdeveloped and steven moffat did his character dirty when he had a lot to offer
A wish: that he could have been what was promised
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: don’t bring him back moffat he’s the only character you left dead
5 words to best describe them: caring, intelligent, affectionate, loving, brave
My nickname for them: dan the soldier man
captain jack:
Why I like them: what’s not to like honestly?? he’s brave, he’s redeemable, he’s strong, he’s caring, he’s pan (omnisexual technically)
Why I don’t: idk i p much always liked him haha
Favorite episode (scene if movie): boom town yo
Favorite season/movie: s1
Favorite line: Being here, I’ve seen things I never dreamt I’d see. Loved people I never would have known if I just stayed where I was. And I wouldn’t change that for the world.
Favorite outfit: his outfit in boom town i think??
OTP: i hear jack/ianto is great, but i’ve always been fond of rose/doctor
Brotp: him/doctor, him/rose, him/mickey, him/martha,
Head Canon: he and martha stayed in touch :’) also that even though he was devastated abt getting left behind, he still helped ppl bury the dead and console the living
Unpopular opinion: he’s not that hot??? also john barrowman isn’t great lol (i do love his line on dw confidential when he teared up abt the show tho)
A wish: he and jenny met up (whispers meekly: go read jenny returns on ff.net my user is danahscott and i think you might like it??)
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: don’t get decapitated (too LATE)
5 words to best describe them: cheeky, funny, cocky, slytherin, smart
My nickname for them: captain cheesecake
send me a character!!

Billie Allen
Billie Allen (January 13, 1925 – December 29, 2015) was an American actress, theater director, dancer and entertainer. Allen was one of the first black actors and performers to appear on television and stage in the United States, at a time when those venues were largely closed to African Americans. During the 1950s, Allen became one of the first black entertainers to have a recurring role on network television when she was cast on CBS' The Phil Silvers Show, beginning in 1955. She was one of the first African Americans to appear on television commercials in the U.S. She was also one of the earliest African American actors on daytime soap operas as she appeared in the mid-1950s as the character Ada Chandler on the popular daytime soap opera The Edge of Night. Allen assumed the character of Ada Chandler, after yet another Broadway veteran and groundbreaking actor Micki Grant left the role as the original character "Ada Chandler." Allen was also known for her work on and off Broadway.
Life and career
Allen was born Wilhelmina Louise Allen on January 13, 1925, in Richmond, Virginia. Her father, William R. Allen, was an actuary, while her mother, the former Mamie Wimbush, was a teacher. Her interest in the performing arts, especially ballet and opera, began early in life. A fan of singer Marian Anderson, Allen attended her 1939 concert at the Lincoln Memorial after the Daughters of the American Revolution barred Anderson from performing at the DAR Constitution Hall.
Allen attended the Hampton Institute, now known as present-day Hampton University. She then moved to New York City during the mid-1940s to pursue acting and dance. She was cast as a dancer in several Bradway productions early in her career, including the 1947 musical review Caribbean Carnival; a Broadway revival of Four Saints in Three Acts in 1952; and My Darlin' Aida, an adaptation of a Giuseppe Verdi opera, which also opened in 1952. She also appeared with one of her mentors, the legendary Ethel Waters in the revival of the off Broadway production of Mamba's Daughters.
Allen was accepted into the Actors Studio, where she studied under the renowned acting teacher and actor Lee Strasberg. She was later cast as understudy in the part of "Beneatha Younger" in the 1959 Broadway premier production of playwright Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun. She later assumed the full-time role of "Beneatha Younger" when actress and friend Diana Sands exited the role. Allen befriended several members of the cast, notably actress Ruby Dee, with whom she shared a friendship that lasted over 55 years. She later directed her lifelong friend Ruby Dee in the 2001 off-Broadway dramatic play, Saint Lucy's Eyes which premiered at the Cherry Lane Theatre in New York and was later staged and directed by Allen in the early 2000s at Atlanta, Georgia's Alliance Theatre.
In 1960, Billie Allen portrayed a maid in the Broadway debut of Ira Levin's Critic's Choice. Her character "Essie" was the housekeeper of the play's main protagonist, theater critic "Parker Ballantine," played by Henry Fonda, and his wife, portrayed by Georgann Johnson. She also appeared in James Baldwin's Blues for Mr. Charlie, a 1964 dramatic play loosely based on the killing of Emmett Till. Her last Broadway production as an actress was in A Teaspoon Every Four Hours in 1969. A Teaspoon Every Four Hours ran for a record 97 preview performances before closing the day after its official opening night.
Aside from her breakthrough recurring role in The Phil Silvers Show on CBS during the 1950s, her other television roles included Car 54, Where Are You? on NBC in the early 1960s and Law & Order during the 1990s. Allen's film credits included Black Like Me in 1964, The Wiz in 1978, and Losing Ground in 1982.
In 1973, Allen joined with actor and founder Garland Lee Thompson, Jr., actor Morgan Freeman and journalist Clayton Riley to establish the Frank Silvera Writers Workshop, located in Harlem, as a tribute to its namesake, Frank Silvera, a character actor, theater director and acting teacher. Notable students of the Frank Silvera Writers Workshop have included award-winning playwrights Charles Fuller, Ntozake Shange and Samm-Art Williams. By the early 1980s, Allen was established as an impeccable director, directing such edgy and provocative productions as Kathleen Collins's play The Brothers in 1982, Anna Deavere Smith's Aye, Aye, Aye, I'm Integrated in 1984, and the musical Miss Ethel Waters.
Allen received a Lucille Lortel Awards nomination in 2006 for directing Funnyhouse of a Negro, a ground-breaking one-act play by Adrienne Kennedy, in 2006. Allen had originated the role of the lead character "Sarah" during the play's debut in 1964. She was also awarded in 2006, The Rose McClendon Trailblazer Award from The Classical Theatre of Harlem.
Billie Allen had been married twice. Her first marriage to aerospace engineer Duane H. Grant, Sr. ended in divorce. Her second husband was Luther Henderson, a pianist, and prolific Broadway composer and arranger, with whom she had co-created the musical, "Little Ham," which was based on the play of the same name written by poet and playwright Langston Hughes. Allen and Henderson, who were both AUDELCO Award Winners, remained married until his death in 2003.
Billie Allen died peacefully at her home in Manhattan, New York City, on December 29, 2015, at the age of 90, just 15 days shy of her 91st birthday. She was survived by her son and daughter, Duane H. Grant, Jr. and Carolyn J. Grant; one granddaughter; several stepchildren; a brother, Dr. Edward B. Allen, and a host of relatives and artists that she directed and mentored throughout her long career.

Billboard awards giving tribute to Pink as a “legend.” What? Nothing against Pink or any of the other people that are honored too young in the award shows but… really?? People in this country have to be told not to put gasoline in baggies? India is begging for more vaccines and many in this country have to be bribed to get a shot to help themselves and their fellow man?? Many cannot believe that they can get something for nothing. Free vaccine? Many hard working poor never get a break and have to wonder what the catch is.

I am really routing for Naomi Osaka. Nobody should be forced to respond to ridiculous questions from reporters. I get that it is part of their job but if one is willing to pay the fine, who cares?? I can’t imagine being exhausted and putting up with the nonsense. It reminds me of running up to victims of a tragedy and getting in their face. We can communicate by social media now. I am all about writers but use your heads. Much like Marshawn Lynch, it is time to stand up!! Protect your mental health!!** Well, this updated just before June. Officials warned her that she would be expelled so she left the French open. She was honest about her anxiety. I see this every day. When will people be allowed to truly be themselves with no penalty?? I think this when I see a restaurant worker forced to wear a humiliating costume or a cashier with a giant name tag with ridiculous advertising slogans. Yes, a company or event is paying you so they should have their promotion but put yourself in their shoes. These are all varying degrees of the same problem. Why must we be pushed into the same lane all the time??
*****
It costs about 2 mil to remove 4 statues due to litigation and safety for the removers.
*****
Hooray for the Texas Dems who walked out to block the outrageous voting bill there. I mean, amongst other things, the GOP want to make it EASIER for a judge to throw out votes based on ALLEGATIONS. They say the removal of hours for Sunday voting was just a “mistake.” There is talk of not paying the Dems but I don’t think they can do that. The GOP claims there are hundreds of incidents of voter fraud and they will prove it when the time is right. Um…..

Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction. –Blaise Pascal Pensees** Are you sick of hearing about the angry white men on shooting rampages. It is alarming how we always hear about how everyone knew of their anger or that they had been looked at before and just left to go on their merry way. C’mon law enforcement, stop picking on minorities and old women and concentrate on the real threat.
*****
Brendan Fraser, Matt Damon, Jon Hamm, David Harbour, Benecio del Toro, Ray Liotta, Don Cheadle and Kieran Culkin will star in No Sudden Move on July 1.

Word is that Arizona congressman Andy Biggs was one of the main organizers of the insurrection. GOP Rep from Oregon, Mike Nearman, was caught on camera letting the culprits into the capitol on Jan. 6. TREASON! When will the wheels of justice get to them?** Newt Gingrich said of the Biden administration: They are “attacking people of traditional values,” by flying the “gay flag at American embassies.”** When will this latest religious fervor die down?** Word is that Tiffany Trump and Vanessa Trump had flings with secret service.
*****
Fuck you Trump, you left us on the battlefield bloody and alone. –Proud Boys leader Ethan Nordean. He explained that “We followed this guy’s lead and never questioned it.” I mean what kind of sheep are these guys? Can they not think for themselves?** There is talk that Trump’s justice department was spying on reporters. ** Hey Kimmel: Can you stop talking about Trump? Enough already!! And.. Reality is boring? What?
*****
On Trump: I imagine it is a chilling final turn of the plot. His world is coming to an end. He will never have another good day. Loser label will haunt him, the law will pursue him. Mental illness will hobble him. His properties will bankrupt him. –Peter Marks
*****
So, the terrorist GOP in the senate does not want Jan. 6 investigated. Of course they do not want to shine a light on their wrong doings. They say they love law enforcement and then they shit on them like this. The very people that were killed or injured trying to protect them mean nothing to them. ** Mitch McConnell thinks he can stop the full truth from coming out. He cannot. The House can empower a bipartisan select congressional committee to investigate the insurrection. The select committee would also have stronger subpoena power because GOP members can’t block subpoenas.
*****
Rand Paul is to medicine what Flashdance is to welding. – Rob Reiner

“We birthed a nation from nothing, I mean, there was nothing here. I mean, yes, we have Native Americans but candidly there isn’t much Native American culture. Why is everybody surprised about the UFO revelations? Of course there are UFO’s. Nobody is saying they are filled with space aliens. Another country could be testing them. There are always things we cannot explain.** We also can’t be surprised that the Q types fight the UFO stories. Once scientific voices of reason come into play, they turn away.

So, there is a worker shortage?? Perhaps if we made it easier to get hired, things would work better. Can owners and managers actually look at a person and go with their gut? Can we get rid of drug tests and long online applications and psych exams? The $ spent on administrative work for hiring is ruining this country. A normal person has to jump thru hoops just to wash dishes anymore. We are not ll cookie cutter people. Often there are no rewards for loyal employees, not to mention benefits. And the laziness of employers who will then not do anything about bad employees that disrupt the work place is astounding. C’mon, give people a chance and then hold them to account and reward the hard workers. Most everyone I know has these same complaints. Who wants to go thru that?

Onwards and upwards
As the 2018-19 football season kicks off, we ask a number of people connected with Millwall FC – from fans to a member of the board – for their thoughts on the club’s past, present and future
As told to Luke G Williams
Michael Avery from the Millwall Supporters’ Club assesses how Millwall did on the pitch last season, and their prospects for next season “Where do we begin? After promotion from League One and a start where Lady Luck seemed to be flirting with our opposition, it seemed like we may be looking over our shoulders for the 2017-18 season. The trap door was just behind us creaking, but there were teams who were destined for the hangman’s noose before us.
“Our season changed on January 20, 2018 at Elland Road against Leeds United. After months of away fixtures where we would cruelly have points we deserved snatched from us, our boys in navy finally faced their demons and got the three points. The 4-3 away win was the catalyst we needed, and we never looked back.
“The trap door disappeared out of sight and we were now looking up. Away wins kept coming and coming and before we knew it we were talking about unbeaten streaks, daring to dream. The team many fancied for the drop now looked like they would leave the Championship via promotion to the Premier League.
Lady Luck was on our arm, but unfortunately for The Den faithful, she was seduced by a team from west London and left us for the soon-to-be promoted Fulham.
“Last season was fantastic, and we would love to replicate it, but we have to be realistic. I don’t think Millwall will go down, instead I think we will be comfortably mid-table.” Mark Baxter, a Lions fan for 50 years, explains what the club means to him and his favourite Millwall memories
“I’m Camberwell born and bred and so that made it a choice of Millwall or Crystal Palace for my local club. My dad was a Millwall fan and I’ve stuck with them ever since. Millwall isn’t a glorious, glamour club; it’s a club that’s handed on to you. You either stick with it or go looking elsewhere for trophies.
“Most of my mates growing up supported Chelsea or West Ham or Spurs, so I stood out as a Millwall fan, but supporting them meant I could go and watch live football locally, which I loved.
“The amount of trouble down there in the 70s was ridiculous so I stopped going for a bit. My dad said he would give me a slap if I went! I came back to Millwall around the late 80s and I’ve had a season ticket pretty much ever since.
“Millwall is in my blood. For Millwall fans, I think the club is part of their being. We don’t win much in the way of trophies and the ground is quite a hard place to get to, but if it’s in your blood and your heart you keep going. You’re addicted to it.
“And then you get those great moments – there was the goal Gary Alexander scored at Wembley, which was one of the best goals ever scored at Wembley by any player for any club.
“That was particularly special because I know Gary, he’s a local boy, my wife grew up knowing his family. To see someone you know score a goal for the club you support at Wembley was quite a moment.
“Plus the FA Cup final at Cardiff in 2004, of course. I never thought I’d see that day. I went in a minibus with all my mates and my family, including my mum who was in her 70s then. That was quite a day, a really big occasion.”
Micky Simpson, current “fan on the board” and founder of the Association of Millwall Supporters, on his role and the development saga surrounding Millwall’s stadium
“The easiest way to describe my role is that it’s a fan liaison role. It’s about giving the fans a voice within the club. I take fans’ concerns to the relevant people, including to the board if needed, depending on the level of concern.
“These concerns might be about ticket allocation, transport issues or police dealings with the fans. Or I might take ideas to the board. There’s no job description set in stone as such, but I do pretty much anything and everything I can to support the fan base.
“Then there’s other things I do. Just yesterday I was chatting to a guy in a caff, a Millwall fan, near the ground and I was able to take him into the stadium to meet [former player] Jimmy Carter and take some pictures pitchside. Meeting and talking to this Millwall legend pretty much made a 50-odd year old man cry with happiness.
“I try to use my role to do good and make sure there is a connection and communication between the fans and the club. I use Twitter and various forums to do that. The role works and I think it shows a lot of forward thinking on the part of the club to have this role.
“I just hope that with a new mayor and cabinet in Lewisham that we can now move forward as a club with the development of the stadium. It’s hard to believe that a club as big as Millwall weren’t originally placed at the centre of the regeneration plans for the area, rather than treated like a nasty boy in the corner. That never would have happened to Arsenal or Manchester United.
“If the media were to look at Millwall without blinkers on, they would see that we are a very strong community club with our heart in the local working-class community.”
Peter Garston, former “fan on the board” and still a member of Millwall’s board of directors, on why he believes the club’s community work deserves more attention
“I am a lifelong Millwall fan – my first game was in 1969. For me it’s more than a football team; coming from a dysfunctional family as a child, Millwall was my first real family, to the extent that I named both of my children after players, Harry after Harry Cripps and Alfie after Alfie Wood.
“In 2005 I was voted on to the board of directors of Millwall as “FOTB” by my fellow fans, an honour I will never be able to repay. In 2016 I decided to stand down and was honoured that chairman John Berylson asked me to remain on the board as a director. He also invited me to become a director of Millwall Holdings. Then last year I was offered the position of trustee on the Millwall Community Scheme – I still hold all these positions.
“I have followed Millwall through many ups and downs; I was a travelling fan during the 70s and 80s and that experience, along with the board positions I hold, has enabled me to have an all-round overview of the club.
“I have seen many things during my time – both good and bad – but the one thing I can never understand is the media’s inability to report on the excellent work we do in the community week in week out – work we have been doing for many years.
“With over-50s clubs and Irish clubs to name but a few, we are truly all-inclusive. As fans every year we also raise considerable sums for every cause you can mention. Recently we raised thousands for the young girl Isla Caton who was suffering with a rare form of cancer and whose family were all die-hard West Ham fans, while our contribution to Help for Heroes annually is immense. I just wish there was more balanced reporting to reflect this.”
Ayse Smith, editor of Millwall fanzine The Lion Roars on the club’s current prospects on and off the pitch
“The Lion Roars magazine is now in its 30th year of publication, and hopefully we will have an amazing season – on and off the pitch – to report on.
“Last season we were one of the favourites to be relegated, which I thought was a bit harsh, and a bit silly really, as newly promoted teams normally do really well in their new league as they are still flying high with momentum from the previous season. Despite that, we exceeded even our own expectations.
“This coming season is going to be tough though. The team is pretty much the same as last year, and although they have united amazingly, expectations are going to be higher, from us fans at least. We are again one of the favourites to be relegated, and I hope this spurs the players on to prove our critics wrong.
“The current progress of the compulsory purchase order (CPO) and redevelopment plans on Millwall’s land is unclear at the moment. The council have not said that they will not apply for a CPO again, and the fact the newly elected mayor Damien Egan and MP Janet Daby were both on the council cabinet and voted in favour of the CPO in the first place, is quite alarming to me.
“Drawing up plans and architects’ fees are hugely expensive, and although Millwall have already paid for these in their bid to redevelop the land themselves, I don’t think they can afford to spend any more on it unless the council gives us the go-ahead to redevelop the land to provide the much-needed homes that Lewisham borough needs.”
