how you transport your belongings (purse, tote, hands, pockets, etc.): tbh I usually get someone else to carry stuff for me because I lose shit like crazy. Sometimes a purse, but usually just a kind sucker that loves me.

the last movie you watched: shit, I am trying so hard to remember. I've been watching mostly tv series when I do watch stuff. Um...fuck. I don't know. I'm sure I've seen movies on tv since then but I did get dragged to see that terrible Civil War movie in the theater a few months ago.

how long does it take you to get ready in the morning? I work from home, in my bedroom. Despite my best intentions, I usually wake up about 20 minutes before I'm supposed to start. In my defense, I start hella early.

So, a few things have happened since this post started making the rounds(something im very thankful for) that I'd like to address:

User @shesgayfolks has made an incredibly helpful addition pointing out that MSF has donation-matching periods in which sponsoring organizations will match any donations emitted to MSF, making donations twice as effective. These donation matching events are subject to the country you're donating from. From what I've gathered they're fairly common in the US, but they may not be as frequent if available at all in other countries (In my time donating to msf from Argentina i dont remember a single instance of donation matching happening) Before waiting for a donation matching instance, I'd recommend checking the frequency of these events in your country.

User @wideblueskies identified themself in the comments section of this post as a former member of MSF who vouches for the humanitarian work of the organization and is open to recieve questions related to it.

Many people have decided to co-opt this post to argue against the legitimacy of gazan fundraisers and the vetting processes being ran by users of this platform. The objective of this post was to offer an alternative for those who are hesitant on this subject, however, I don't feel comfortable having this post attached to this sort of discourse. I personally have donated to fundraisers that are on @/el-shab-hussein and @/nabulsi's spreadsheet on occasions, and intend on continuing to do so to the best of my ability, unless i see something off about it, but i think everyone's free to make their own assessment on the risks and the proof delivered and make a personal choice.

I know I've said this a hundred times but if you're worried about palestinian fundraisers being scams at least consider donating to MSF. It's a highly reputable organization which has broken its long-standing neutrality to denounce Israel in front of the UN. Here's all the aid MSF is providing to Gazans (documentation available in multiple languages).

Yassssss! For the ask thing please! (OMG I love this fic!) "You were right about him, John," Clara sighs, and takes the roasties out of the oven. She nods at Sherlock and says, "You — set the table. When Sherlock is laying out forks and knives and glowering daggers at John, he hisses, "Oh, I see we're leveraging our psychosomatic limp then." John smiles sweetly at him. "I'm really very sore," he lies."

So I have weird complicated feelings about BBC Sherlock, which was a show that I was waiting for with agonized anticipation because from the previews I was seeing on BBC, it was using visual medium to tell a story in a way that really hadn’t been done before. I remember it being bitterly cold in London, and sitting in my old flat at my gawking because the series was SPECTACULAR, and so out of step with anything I had expected out of an endlessly reinterpreted character and series of stories. I fell in love: hook, line and sinker. 

Homemaking was a story that I wrote immediately after the first episode, A Study in Pink, because there’s something intoxicating about the domestic spaces in between the high octane narrative arcs of any show. (I was also that person in SGA fandom who mostly only wanted to write stories about them wandering around the city itself, fuck going offworld etc etc.) 

And part of the attraction of writing a domestic story is to throw the volatile element of Sherlock in with the oh-so-BORING elements of normal people. Clara was a fun cipher for me, at the beginning of the series, since all we know was that she’d probably thrown Harry out and has a weakness for Watsons, which John Three Continents Watson would no doubt exploit to make his roommate suffer.

Upon reflection, now, there are some weird rough edges in that story (there’s a weird bit where I have Sherlock call John “Watson,” which feels crazy because that never really happens in the show at all, and comes more for the shared Jungian archetype or whatever), but I’m still very, very fond of it.

How did you get into the fandom? 

I was watching gay compilation videos on YouTube and found the Gallavich season 1-4 video, then watched too many seasons of Shameless UK (because I didn't have access to US) then watched five seasons of Shameless US, then spent 3 months reading the whole tag on AO3.

How long have you been here?

Since... 2015?

I would say AO3, because I was on there reading people's fics for a long time before I started following their links to tumblr.

Fanfic trope that you were sure wasn’t for you but now you low key (or high key) love?

Not sure if there is one, I have tried most tropes just to check them out, and I have liked tropes I don't normally like when it's just the once and it's done in some interesting or particularly skillful way, but I don't think I've ever done a 180 on something? I suppose! I usually start out only reading canon compliant fic when I'm first entering a fandom. Then I will either run out of steam or start reading AU, or fully just transition to only reading AU (which is what happened with Shameless, more or less). So I normally start out not liking AUs and then given enough time and steam, I will make AUs my whole personality.

What surprised you most about this fandom?

I'm really surprised by what it has become, it's so nice to see all the crafts and community building that's going on here every week, and how nice and drama free (from my vantage point anyway) it has become, in the last few years. I'm not very good at participating, but I really want to because it feels like such an open and welcoming and community-focused space.

I had zero context for this scene when I first saw it, but oh. My god.

It’s been years, but when he startles awake in the middle of the night, Mickey still finds himself squinting over his shoulder in sleepy confusion at Ian, curled up behind him.

But Ian is asleep.

And from the living room, the unmistakable sound of lightsabers.

Mickey sighs and rubs his eyes, and for a second, considers just going back to sleep. The bed is warm. The living room feels as cold and dark and distant as Antarctica, and Ian is just stirring awake, reaching out for him, mumbling sleepily.

“Hey,” Mickey murmurs. “Be right back.” He catches Ian’s hand and presses a kiss to his knuckles. Ian squeezes his hand and seems to drift off again. Lucky bastard.

Mickey slides his feet into his slippers and shuffles out to the living room to see what his kid is up to now.

The last twenty minutes of Phantom Menace, apparently. Yev is huddled in one corner of the couch, his fist pressed up against his chin in a gesture Mickey remembers from a few years ago, when Liam first told Yev that thumb sucking was for babies.

Mickey flops down in the middle of the couch, not quite touching the kid, and stretches his arm out, resting it on the back of the cushions. After a minute, his eyes still fixed on the TV, Yev scoots over so he’s under Mickey’s arm. Mickey moves his hand down to Yev’s shoulder, and gives him a little squeeze.

“Didn’t think we had this one,” he says.

“SyFy channel,” Yev mutters.

“Hm,” Mickey says. Then, “Who’s your favorite?”

“Darth Maul.”

“Yeah?”

“He has the coolest lightsaber.”

“Sure fucking does.”

“Mom said stop saying fuck.”

“Whoops. You got me, kid.” Mickey pokes Yev in the ribs, and Yev giggles.

Obi-Wan does an especially cool flip, and goes after Maul again. Yev stifles a yawn.

“Bed?” Mickey asks, and Yev shakes his head fiercely. “School tomorrow,” Mickey reminds him. “That math test.”

“S’easy,” Yev says through another yawn.

“Yeah?” Mickey says, trying not to sound too proud of the little smartass. “Even easier if you go to bed before four in the morning.”

He lets the silence stretch out, broken only by the crackle of lightsabers. Qui-Gon is dead, and Obi-Wan looks he’s on the edge of tears, but then he turns and attacks.

“Bad dream,” Yev says, so softly Mickey probably wouldn’t have caught it if it hadn’t been what he was already expecting to hear.

“Ah, come on,” he says, lightly. “Can’t tell me it was something me or Ian couldn’t take care of. Hell, your mom could probably take out a zombie like it was nothing.”

Yev shifts back and forth, his eyes still on the screen, following the fight.

“Dreamt you were gone,” he says. Mickey takes a quick breath, the pain in his chest like a kick to the ribs.

He doesn’t know what to say.

Not gonna lie to him, that’s for sure. If he could count the number of times his mom told him she was getting clean, or his dad told him—actually, his dad never told him much of anything, come to think of it. Never thought of Mickey as someone who needed to know. Never really thought of Mickey at all.

Maybe it doesn’t matter if he gets it exactly right, just that he fucking says something.

“Never wanted to go,” he says, and God knows that’s the fucking truth. He’s spent most of his life running, it feels like sometimes. It’s good to come home to somewhere. To someone. “Gonna do my best to make sure it doesn’t ever happen again.”

Yev nods quick, not looking at him.

“But even . . .” Christ, he can’t say that. “You’ve got—a whole lotta people,” he says. “You know that, right? Not just Ian and your mom. Kev and Vee. Aunt Mandy, Carl, Debbie. There’s always someone. OK?”

“Yeah,” Yev says. He turns his head and burrows against Mickey’s side, but keeps his head turned enough to keep watching the movie. “Like having you, though.”

Aw, fuck. Mickey swallows hard, and leans down enough to drop a kiss on the top of Yev’s head.

“Yeah,” he says. “Same, kid.”

I frequently think back on the amazing outfit that Anthea brought George when she was in hospital. The bra without underwire but with elastic lace, and the coat with the beautiful blue lining. I love that Anthea anyway, and her relationship with Mycroft is really wonderful, but that scene in particular has stuck with me since I first read it years and years ago.

Anthea was BLISS to write in Least of All Possible Mistakes. She was so inscrutable and weird, and I imagined her as someone like the Holmes boys, exceptional and as a result exceptionally lonely. It’s hard to be a sharp tongued genius male, but much worse for women as in all things, and I think for Anthea, in George she made a friend who not only doesn’t mind her strange personality, but never makes a show of not minding her strange personality. George doesn’t like it or dislike it, she just takes Anthea as she is, in all of her voluminous Anthea-ness, and for someone like Anthea, I think it must feel like the dizzy exhalation after so long holding your breath.

To be honest I think that "the thing that's making it so good when it's good also makes it so bad when it's bad" is l o v e . Love is what keeps them together and draws them to each other, what makes them happy when they're together. Love is what made them figure their relationship out instead of giving up on each other when Even’s mental health seemed like an issue at first. But love is also what makes Isak drive out of his mind when Even isn't feeling good because he wants him to be content and happy. Love is (partially, the other part being his mental illness) what makes Even think he's a burden to Isak when he's not doing well. This is just a guess but it makes sense to me, I think Isak was just straight up scared to say the word love already.

remember the day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute advice from sonja? that’s what i think isak is thinking about when he says that. he told even not to worry about the future because an atom bomb could drop down on them the next day so there was no use in worrying. isak doesn’t know what the future holds but right now he wants to be with even.

i realize it sounds kinda pessimistic but i think it was meant as a way of telling us that as teenagers we don’t know what relationships will stand the test of time so we should focus on now instead of forever

The lock screen is something i googled, and I don't know the creator. Sorry! The song, "Down in a hole", is from my "grunge, dark and gloomy" playlist, and the selfie show how I look after a long day at work, with double chin and all. What's one thing you want in a picrew?

MORE GLASSES OPTIONS omg please. Colour and shape. I also really love it when I can build the hair in sections so I can colour my roots differently than the rest of the hair. Also, worse hair options. Come on, normalise 'I've got no hair texture or interest or time to do anything about it'. I feel like an imposter whenever I pick one of these perfectly swooshy dos.

Favourite thing you’ve created (or seen created) for the fandom?

None the wiser

Why is it your favourite? It's mad to think about but it was the first thing I decided to make for this fandom, and I'm still working on it (very very slowly) I don't know if I've ever spent this much time and effort on anything else. It's very special to me.

Did it come easily or was it hard to create? Both, right now it's very hard, but it usually comes back around.

Last ao3 fic you commented on? A Dead Boy Detectives fic, I'm pretty sure.

Biggest WIP heartache you’ve ever experienced? I'm embarrassed to admit that I don't usually read WIPs, not really because they're unfinished but because I don't often read long fic lol. My ideal fic for reading is a concise 5k oneshot, I am a terrible hypocrite.

Favorite trope or head cannon you like included in a fanfic? I do love a good outside perspective on Ian and Mickey's relationship not fully getting their dynamic and misunderstanding their special flavour of love. Also really like different canon-divergent stories where they get separated in different moments and then reunited in the future in various ways.

Least favourite? For most ships / fandoms I read fic of, I usually develop a set of icks that cause me to click out more or less immediately, often it's to do with a certain nickname or expression or act that I can't physically stand, or, you know, which signal a fundamental mismatch between mine and the author's focus/interests/views. Unfortunately, any mention of anything happening after season 5 has become a bit of an ick for me, which is deeply unfair to writers who embrace the later half of the show.

Secret or surprising kink or trope? No, I'm extremely basic tbh. My favourite time to read fic for a new fandom is always at the very start when everybody is writing the same super basic story over and over again.

Describe how you feel after you’ve created something new? The best feeling is when I know I've written the last sentence of a story or a chapter, it's always so clear that this, this is it, that's where it ends. I feel really accomplished and complete in that moment and it's great. Then there's still hours and hours of editing after that and it's usually 4 in the morning and I'm feeling slightly unhinged when I actually post.
