Watching Wicked (2024) and I'd forgotten how much I want to fight Glinda in the first part of the story

love that in the wickedverse, this poor 12 year old is just stuck in the middle of the most insane dyke drama Oz has ever seen

On a plane from London to California by way of Salt Lake City, couldn't sleep anymore, debated what to do while awake, considered working on something (either fic or actual work), and decided to watch "John Wick" instead, (a) because I saw long-haired Keanu Reeves on the screen in front of the guy sitting next to me and got inspired, and (b) so I can get to the installment that Robin Lord Taylor is in.

Alfie Allen (a.k.a. Theon Greyjoy) is playing the shitty son of a Russian mobster... I guess because he has such a hateable face? Poor guy seems to be getting himself typecast.

1.18 will never stop hurting me. john placing a loaded shotgun on the floor so it’s easier for his child to reach. shoot first, ask questions later, recited in the tone most kids use to say please and thank you. john clapping his ten year old son on the shoulder and saying “that’s my man.”

the look, barely a step below hatred, on john’s face when dean fails him and sam gets hurt. dean gets one sentence out before he stops arguing, realizing his father is right, he has no excuse. john cradling sammy like the baby he is and petting his hair while dean stands in the doorway and watches, knowing he has no right to even approach them. maybe thinking about the last time he was held like that, if he can even remember it.

the fact that sixteen years later, dean hasn’t forgiven himself. won’t even let sam try to comfort him. It’s all just excuses, like dean had given back then, but sams voice is drowned out by john’s, i told you not to let him out of your sight. he sees this order from john not as a punishment, but a chance at retribution. dad will never forgive me, but maybe he’ll hate me less.

Also I need y'all to know that I last saw Wicked like. nearly twenty years ago, and a lot has happened in twenty years, and I've had the soundtrack for a little longer than that and listened to the music and stuff.

But things hit so much differently when I saw it on Monday. Like. I GOT it. I GOT Defying Gravity in a way I never had before. I GOT that opening scene with the Munchkins celebrating Elphaba's death while Glinda was not here for it but had to be here for it.

And I just.

MAN this musical is SO good and I knew that but it's even better than I thought.

Elphaba hits so much harder for me now than she did twenty years ago. Like.

Listening to Wicked the Musical for the first time after not caring about it for years

No One Mourns the Wicked (5/10)

I like the drums

Glinda sings high—not sure why I’m surprised

Not really memorable but not bad, an ehhh song

Dear Old Shiz (4/10)

Ohhhh the musical is Glinda telling a story i get it

I love the chorus’ harmony

So short i didnt even realize that we moved onto the next song after it ended

Would be 1/10 but the choir boosted it by 3

The Wizard and I (7/10)

The ‘I want’ song, I presume

Pretty good, not the best ‘I want’ song I’ve heard

BUT ARE THEY WRONG?

Mokona’s cuteness is one of the strongest powers in the universe. It’s always a good reason to cook something!

Though I’m interested in the fact that not only can Watanuki not remember what things taste like, he apparently will forget the taste of anything pretty much immediately and so cannot taste test anything. Either that OR they meant that he can’t compare THIS dish to his previous dishes, since he can’t remember the taste of his own past meals? Which would make a bit more sense to me, but I guess go with whichever sounds best to you. 

Either way Yuuko is once again leading Watanuki right up to a fact that two people have already communicated to him already and at this point is just prompting him until he figures it out himself. Doumeki isn’t reacting to the physical taste of the dish at all - or at least, not the cooking quality of it. I’m sure Watanuki will figure it out, eventually, over the course of many chapters - but he’ll get there!

But not on this day in particular, since he is currently preoccupied with the fact that they enjoyed the dish enough to finish it. 

But he’ll get there!

My want to fight Glinda is inversely proportional to wanting to fight the Wizard. Mostly because he's not around when I want to fight Glinda and she's starting to grow and learn when he shows up
