Few weeks back I asked what y'all think who Fugakus Sensei was and no one answered :')
But anyway, I'm gonna share my answer now. Who was the Sensei to Wicked Eye Fugaku, who rivaled Minato in status and position. Who was Hokage candidate. But in the end didn't make it.
Tumblr media
We all thought it was 'Uchiha-hate' that prevented him from becoming Yondaime. But what if it wasn't? All Hokage were chosen bc of their lineage. Like 'Kakashi can't become Hokage, he's the student of the Yondaime who was the student of Jiraiya who was the student of the Sandaime and we don't want the Sandaimes thinking anymore'. What if the same thing happened to Fugaku? Warhero, one of their strongest, Hokage candidate. But in the end Minato 'won' the title. Why? Maybe bc of Fugakus Sensei. Hatake Sakumo.
Tumblr media
They needed someone to blame for their war and putting it all on one man was the easiest way. So Sakumo, Fugakus Sensei, had fallen into disgrace and 'betrayed' everything Konoha stood for. His student could never become Hokage. What if he shared his thoughts? How deep had Sakumos teaching poisoned Fugakus mind? They couldn't risk it. Letting the student of their villages disgrace and cause for the whole war become Hokage.
Hatake Sakumo would be 16 when Fugaku would become Genin with 8.
With Sakumo (19) and Fugaku (11) they would get a new team bc the other two died.
His teammates would be Kushina (10, I changed her and Minatos age bc Minato doesn't really make sense... like... Minato becomes Genin with 10 but is JoninSensei with 15 when Kakashi, Obito and Rin meet him? Another topic, I changed their age and they're now close to Fugaku which makes way more sense, tell me what you think) and Hizashi (8). Great Shinobi get great names and potential.
Tumblr media
For comparison: Team Jiraiya (18) one year after graduation (they lost a teammate) consisted of Minato (11), Teuchi (12, yes, I love that hc, check his age, he wasn't old in og and would fit with Minatos and Kushinas upgraded age) and Uchiha Mikoto (7).
I digress...
What do you think about Sakumo being Fugakus Sensei? Would the Uchiha heir train under some no name? Or the greatest Shinobi of his time? Why wasn't he chosen as Hokage? Were they wary of the Uchiha? Was it discrimination? Or his 'disgraced' lineage?
And have you ever thought about Minatos and Kushinas age? How he graduated with 10 years and was supposedly Jonin with 15 when Kakashi graduated with 5? How come he had way more missions in 14yrs of service than Kakashi who fought 2 world wars and was 25yrs in service at the time? I made Minato 7yrs older in my hc. So he and Kushina died with 31. It would make more sense, I mean, Mikoto and her being pregnant around the same time, Minato and Fugaku being rivals. And seriously. Kakashi went from Genin (5) to Jonin (9) in 4yrs. Which is insane. And desperate. Were they that desperate in 'peace times'? Minato graduated with 10 and was Jonin Sensei with 15. Really? So, in my hc he's 7yrs older.

It's such an interesting juxtaposition between Minato and Fugaku.
Minato was willing to sacrifice his own life, yes, but he was also more than willing to sacrifice his son's as well. Even after he knew the horrid treatment both outsiders and the Jinchūriki faced by the village-- Minato and Kushina were in the same classes while the bullying was happening, for god's sake.
Then you have Fugaku, 4th Hokage nominee "Wicked Eye" Fugaku, the very same man who showed his young toddler the end result of battle and war, sitting peacefully, willing to die for his son's ideals-- even though he could defend himself easily if he so chose.
I dunno, it's just really neat how you have this bright-colored, affable leader and a much more dour and cold leader; and yet, the friendly one is willing to sacrifice you for his goals, whereas the unfriendly one would die for yours. Now that I think about it, their dynamic is not too dissimilar from the one Hashirama and Madara had!
I do not want to ignore the fact that Minato was, in fact, under an incredible pressure when he sacrificed Naruto. But he STILL did it while claiming a newborn was a shinobi and the sacrifice for the village was his duty. A newborn! (<- my main problem with him right here)
While Fugaku, as you just said, died for his son's ideals he did not agree with. I am obviously biased, but I don't think he would have sacrificed Sasuke if he was in Minato's place.

How would things go if your father was the fourth Hokage instead of Minato?
Tumblr media
Honestly, I learned more about my father once he was in the ground than when he was alive. We didn't have all that much time together. You may want to turn this question to @retiredsenju, instead.
Politically, though, you have to understand that Minato-sensei's rise to the position wasn't exactly guaranteed. It was more so that the late Sandaime felt he had to give up the hat, after his unpopular actions concerning what many considered to be a premature end to the Third War on our part. Sunk cost of our shinobi's lives and the terms of the treaty that we could have pushed more on... well. It made sense to step down and place one of our war heroes in the spotlight instead, be it the Yellow Flash, Fugaku of the Wicked-Eye, or one of his own students. There were, admittedly, merits to all three of the choices.
Personal history aside, the White Fang may not have been a very popular nominee. Unlike the Sannin but similar to my own sensei, Hatake Sakumo was less a powerhouse and more a very competent shinobi with a few very specific tricks up his sleeves that he relied on heavily, and a good head for on-field leadership. He would have been... forty? Forty-one? To Sandaime-sama's mid-fifties and Minato-sensei's early twenties, though, which is past the age that most shinobi retire from the field. I don't know how he would have fared in office during peacetime, but who knows. He was born during peacetime two years before the First War broke out, and much of his youth was spent in the twenty-year interim between the First and Second Wars. Maybe he would have handled the change better than Minato-sensei's and my generation did when the world finally got around to peace again.

it is truly so exhausting that a lot of fans are obsessed with powerscaling and especially powerscaling wrt feats, when so many ""featless"" characters are the result of poor writing
for example fugaku was in the running for hokage against minato, had a whole ass scary nickname known as Wicked Eye, but my partner just said minato clears because fugaku "has no feats." like okay, that's clearly not what you're meant to gleam from a character being pit against mfing namikaze minato for hokage candidate
these are the same guys who hype up characters like shisui but when you say "well he got bodied by danzo" they try to counter it with "danzo had to poison him first." ok well shisui's "feat" was still getting his ass beat by danzo so......which is it? do we care about feats or not? can we just admit this is such a poorly written aspect of the series or not?

I don't think this is anything groundbreaking, but the argument that Hiruzen Sarutobi couldn't find a suitable replacement for himself after Minato's death was absolute bullshit. Fugaku Uchiha was right there. The only reason that didn't happen was the discrimination against the Uchiha that the other 3 village elders (and presumably Hiruzen himself since he went along with their prejudice) held. He was called "Wicked Eye Fugaku" and had his own run on sight order against him from other villages, just like Minato. He had the power, and the experience from being head of the Uchiha clan and head of the Konoha Police Force.
And don't give me the argument that he didn't have the temperament. The other frontrunner besides Minato was *Orochimaru*. Fugaku may have planned a coup d'etat against the Leaf, but that was after decades of political isolation, discrimination and outward distrust/hatred of the Uchiha, even more so after the Nine Tails' attack on the night of Naruto's birth. He was loyal to the leaf and would have gone to fight the Nine Tails himself if orders didn't come on down from Hiruzen and the elders to "patrol the borders", an obvious indicator that they distrusted the Uchiha and thought them responsible.
The clan was not only forbidden from helping with their Sharingan, but made to move entirely to the outskirts of the village after the attack, and then spied on. As well as being blamed for the Nine Tails attack thanks to Danzo (the eternal ruiner of everything good in the Naruto universe, fuck him to death forever) spreading rumors that they had. Most people would question their loyalty to their village if they were treated like that.
Fugaku absolutely would have been a better choice than having Hiruzen stay hokage into his late 60s. Hiruzen was a man that tried his best, but he made a lot of mistakes. For example, earlier in his reign, he was too militaristic. Later on, he tried too hard to compensate for that by being too lenient and letting Danzo do way too much in the shadows. And I don't think Fugaku would have tolerated Danzo's actions nearly as much as Hiruzen did. Do I think Fugaku would have been a saint? No. Fugaku was the head of the military police, so it's pretty easy to assume his way of ruling would be a bit more strict and involve some darkness of it's own. But I don't think he would have tolerated Danzo doing the shit he did with no oversight, especially when Danzo did things that ultimately didn't benefit the Leaf, no matter how much he thought they would.
So what am I talking about in regards to Danzo? So there's a few things that Danzo did that Hiruzen absolutely should have imprisoned him for, if not executed him for.
1. Danzo leaked the fact that Naruto was the jinchuuriki of the Nine Tails *against orders from Hiruzen himself* just to create a rallying point of hate for the rest of the villagers. And conveniently left out the part that Naruto was Minato's son and that Minato wished for him to be seen as a hero for the burden he was taking on. He should have faced consequences for that, like at the very least losing his position of power and having Root dissolved. Yes, I know Hiruzen didn't have proof, but that's what investigations are for. And there's really no excuse for not finding out when you can just have a particularly talented Yamanaka clan member, even the clan head, read Danzo's damn mind. Or at the least publicly dare Danzo to submit to such a method. Danzo would look very suspicious to all of Konoha if he refused.
How would Fugaku have handled that? Probably using the Sharingan to force Danzo to tell the truth himself. And would probably have been able to find proof as well considering *he was literally a goddamned ninja cop*.
2. Danzo literally tried to have Hiruzen assassinated. And how did Hiruzen respond? Let him off with a warning. A fucking warning. And Danzo responded by telling him his softness would be his downfall. Like gee maybe rescind the warning and just go straight to having him killed, considering he had basically just made clear he felt no real remorse for his actions? Or at the very least imprison him right then and there?
Now do I really need to say how Fugaku likely would have responded? Dude was a ninja cop. Safe to say he knew where the lines had to be drawn. He'd at the very least have had Danzo exposed and imprisoned for his crimes. Execution would probably be the better option in Danzo's case... but I digress.
I won't bother going into how Fugaku would've handled Danzo's greatest crime, that being pushing and manipulating Itachi into massacreing his entire clan, considering that would by default require Fugaku to be dead. But obviously it never would have even happened if Fugaku had become 5th Hokage after Minato. The reason for the planned coup would never have even existed at that point. The Uchiha would've felt much more validated by the rest of Konoha had Fugaku become the 5th, and it's safe to say he wouldn't have allowed his own clan to be mistreated.
Now onto some other reasons:
1. Fugaku certainly had earned the fear of other villages, what with having his own run-on-sight order, his nickname "Wicked Eye Fugaku", and his own Mangekyo Sharingan. Much like Minato, no one wanted to face him on the battlefield. No one was going to try to attack the village while he would have been in power.
2. He had the power to control the Nine Tails, thanks to his Mangekyo Sharingan. Hell, he might not have necessarily needed his Mangekyo considering Sasuke suppressed the Nine Tails chakra in Naruto after the time skip with BASE Sharingan. If Naruto ever started losing control, Fugaku could run in and suppress the Nine Tails then and there (provided they were inside the village at the time).
3. He almost certainly would have been able to fight off Orochimaru during the Konoha Crush, as well as being really valuable in the fight against Pain. Even if he couldn't have fought Orochimaru alone (I doubt that though considering how easily Itachi humiliated him), it's not like Hiruzen wouldn't have still been around and able to aid him. Reminder that Hiruzen, even at 69, was able to defeat Edo Tensei versions of the 1st and 2nd Hokage and almost kill Orochimaru as well. He was called "The Professor" for a reason. And Hiruzen certainly wouldn't have died to Orochimaru in that case, since Fugaku would have been the one to fight him.
4. If Fugaku had become the 5th after Minato's death, Hiruzen could've done a much better job honoring Minato's dying wish for him to take care of Naruto. You know, by directly raising Naruto himself, or at the very least being able to be much more of a mentor for him, seeing as he didn't also have to continue the duties of being Hokage. Or hell, Fugaku could have made the decision to adopt Naruto himself considering he literally has the kyuubi sealed inside him and Fugaku has the power to control it. Kind of a no-brainer solution there, frankly.
Now to address some potential issues that might come up if he had become the 5th Hokage:
1. Some people might assume that if he had, he'd be overly partial to the Uchiha and treat them better than everyone else. While this is a possibility considering he was literally the head of the clan, I'm not so sure that would be the case. First, it's a common fear of those in power that if the oppressed come into power, they'll then do the same thing to the former oppressors that the former oppressors did to them. It's generally not true either. Sure, there's individual exceptions *cough Netanyahu cough* but most people who have faced oppression generally don't want to visit that oppression on others.
And while it's possible Fugaku might be that type, I don't believe so. Remember, when Kakashi received a Sharingan from Obito as Obito's (at the time) dying wish, a lot of Uchiha were furious and didn't think he deserved it. Fugaku however, as head of the clan, decided that it was better to honor Obito's dying wish. That at least gives an indicator that he's more reasonable than the most extreme members of his clan. It indicates to me that at worst, he would have *mild* favoritism towards his clan, but would try to be as reasonable as he could. Again, remember that it was only after years of discrimination and isolation from the rest of Konoha that he formulated plans for a coup d'etat. This is also a man that was willing to die instead of fighting his own son, despite said son literally betraying the clan. Itachi himself had doubts about whether he could face his own father in battle, had Fugaku chosen to fight, but Fugaku refused to fight him at all despite Itachi literally massacreing the rest of the clan and being there to kill him and his wife. He is not ruled purely by clan mentality.
2. There is the possibility that he would have been too strict as hokage, using too much of an iron fist style of ruling as opposed to trying to negotiate with others. I admittedly have less justification for denying this possibility. I don't think we have a lot of evidence either way for this.
We know that he made some questionable choices as a father (bringing Itachi to a battlefield at fucking FOUR YEARS OLD, having to be guilted by Itachi into attending Sasuke's induction ceremony into the Ninja academy, using his own son as a spy against Konoha without even telling him it was for the purposes of an impending coup, etc), but I don't know how much we can attribute this to him personally versus just being a product of his time as a ninja of his generation. He just fought in the 3rd ninja war, and presumably was at least alive when the 2nd war was happening. He wasn't that much younger than the Sannin afterall. We also don't know that much how he handled his job as a ninja cop, or how he disciplined members of the clan.
However we also have the aforementioned cases of him being fairly reasonable in his dealings with others. We also have the distinct possibility that Hiruzen would stay on as an advisor, with Hiruzen in his more benevolent later years being more likely to preach compassion. While I have my issues with Hiruzen as Hokage, I think he would have been a pretty good advisor. Fugaku would also have the counsel of his wife, who we know from Itachi Shinden was the softer and kinder of the two. She was the one that often reminded him that Itachi, though already a genin by age 7 and extremely talented, *was still only 7 years old*. He would have been more likely to listen to her on such things without having been hardened by the aftermath of the Nine Tails attack in canon. And well.. he'd also have those 2 useless old fuck elders Koharu and Homura, I guess, though I don't know how much help THEY would be. Granted though, I think they'd at least keep him from being overly partial to his own clan.
3. There's the possibility that he wouldn't have allowed Naruto as much freedom as Hiruzen did. And I mean, maybe. While I don't think he'd be full authoritarian, he probably wouldn't be as lax as Hiruzen was.
But that being said, I think he wouldn't have had a lot of reason to keep Naruto on a short leash when he could personally make sure that Naruto was always teamed up with a strong Uchiha on missions. Afterall, in this presumed timeline of events the clan wouldn't literally be massacred. I could see Naruto's jonin squad leader being Itachi or Shisui, or some other strong Uchiha capable of suppressing the Nine Tails. Or hell, maybe even if he did still team Naruto up with Kakashi, he could personally train Kakashi (or have some other Uchiha train him) to use his own Sharingan better. He already honored Obito's dying wish afterall. And I don't doubt he'd consider his own son Sasuke trustworthy enough to be Naruto's teammate, too. I also don't believe Fugaku would be the type to disregard Minato's dying wishes regarding Naruto either, as he already respected Obito's dying wishes regarding the Sharingan he gave Kakashi. Naruto might have been able to master Kurama's power a little quicker too, having all those Uchiha to suppress Kurama whenever Naruto did start to lose control.
Alright though, I'm theoried out at this point lol. I've been writing this for literally hours. Hopefully I got my point across without getting too fanfiction-y lol.

Fugaku Uchiha Mangekyō Sharingan (TW: mention of war, death)
Warning: Spoilers
Such a complex character, Fugaku, the father of Sasuke and Itachi Uchiha. He fought in the third great ninja war and was so feared that he was dubbed “wicked eye Fugaku”.
As for his Mangekyō, it was awakened after one of his close friends sacrificed himself during the war. Fugaku did not want anyone to know he had awakened the Mangekyō as he could control the Nine-Tails with it, and he was afraid those in his clan would try to use this power of his for evil purposes.
Other than this, not much is known about Fugaku’s Mangekyō.

People also don't realize that the Uchiha had the power to ensure that the coup would be bloodless as Kishimoto revealed through Obito, Orochimaru, Madara, and Danzo that the sharingan, contrary to what Sasuke thought, was actually a lot more common than was assumed, so a majority of the clan had the sharingan with only a select few like Mikoto not having an emotional trigger to awaken it for themselves.
But regardless, with a ton of sharingan users, several of whom having fought during the great wars like Wicked Eye Fugaku Uchiha, and with how potent and powerful sharingan genjutsu is the Uchiha could've easily genjutsu'd Hiruzen and his cronies before any blood is spilled.
As a quick aside: I kinda think that Ame and Suna would've accepted the Uchiha if they successfully got away from Konoha.
Pain/Konan and / or Hanzo would've been pleased to have the Uchiha clan on their side, especially the former two after learning about why they left Konoha, and as such it would've been beneficial for them in more ways than one, to ally with the Uchiha and grant them sanctuary.
Suna was the weakest and poorest of the great hidden villages. If it had the Uchiha clan in its midst, some of its issues could've been stopped, like Shukaku's rampages, the village itself could make more bank thanks to having one of the strongest clans and its prized kekkei genkai fighting for it. Again, look at all the patrons and investors who showed up to Sasuke's match during the Chunin Exams and Konoha sending so many teams to bring him back alive. With all that cash, Suna could easily make things better for itself if it had the Uchiha.
Both of them were royally screwed over by Konoha, Ame more than the others, but if the people in charge of these villages played it smart and gave the Uchiha what they wanted there wouldn't be much I imagine.
Please don't take this too seriously, as it's just me playing with hypothetical scenarios.
From time to time I read someone saying that the Uchiha should have not organized a coup, that they should have just left and joined another ninja village. This is absurd for so many reasons, but what amazes me more is people pretending that the Uchiha fighting for their rights in their own land was such a treason, and that they should have just joined an enemy nation instead.

It's true that in Itachi Shinden is said that Fugaku was actually supposed to be Hokage after Hiruzen stepped down and the majority of the village, both uchiha and non uchiha wanted him as Hokage because of how he fought during the war and also because he was a good person but Danzo worked in favor of Minato and rigged the votes, and because of that, Minato became Hokage?
Not exactly, Danzo had nothing to do with Minato's selection, and Yashiro only mentioned rumours regarding how the village officials didn't want an Uchiha in such a position of power, so they kept quiet about Fugaku's accomplishments. However, those rumours said nothing about Danzo or any official actively pushing for Minato instead - that choice was Hiruzen's alone. Besides, Hiruzen's first choice to succeed him as Hokage was Orochimaru, not Minato:
Tumblr media
However, due to the former's twisted thinking, he decided on Minato instead after the latter's heroics during the war.
In any case, the link to the novel is over here, and the the relevant excerpt is below:
"Why should the fourth be Minato?!" The fierce voice on the other side of the closed sliding door stopped Itachi in his tracks.
"You don't know who could be listening." His father's even tone. "Keep your voice down, Yashiro."
"But I just can't accept it. The only name other than Minato put forward for the selection of the Fourth was Lord Orochimaru! Why did not a single person say your name, Lord Fugaku?" the man named Yashiro demanded of his father.
In Itachi's head, Yashiro's face popped up. A man with narrow eyes and closely cropped white hair. Although he was older than Itachi's father, he served him as a subordinate.
"It's just as you say, Yashiro. I cannot accept this either."
"Inabi..." His father spoke the name of the master of this new voice. Uchiha Inabi was a leading ninja in the Konoha Military Police Force. His distinguishing feature was his long black hair. He was also Itachi's father's subordinate. "Ninja from the other lands trembled at the mention of 'Wicked Eye' Fugaku during the Great War."
"The head of the Konoha Military Police Force. That is my position in the village."
"There's talk it's all the administration's plan!" Yashiro shouted, and then spat out, "Village officials don't want the Uchiha clan standing on center stage. They said nothing in the village about all the work you did during the Great War, Lord Fugaku. Because of that, it was Minato and the Sannin, and even Hatake Kakashi - who has the sharingan despite not being a member of the clan - who shone. If the people can make a fuss over Minato and Kakashi, then your name should also-"
"Enough." Fugaku's controlled voice cut Yashiro off. "My son is listening."
So, there were indeed views that he should have been a prime candidate for the 4th Hokage, and the nickname he earned during the war - "Wicked Eye Fugaku" which caused people to tremble, was a testament to his skill and prestige. Those were all facts, however, Danzo/the officials hampering Fugaku's selection remain rumours, and he definitely didn't rig any votes because the choice was still Hiruzen's, and in another life, he would have chosen Orochimaru.

Daddy’s Girl  + Uchiha Fugaku and his daughter, Toshiko.
Uchiha Fugaku was brought to his knee’s twice. Once by his oldest— he’d heard his kinsmen’s screams as they were slaughtered in the streets, Mikoto had taken his hand and squeezed as they waited with bated breaths and heavy hearts for their own ends —and once by his youngest.
There hadn’t been as much blood then as when his first born became a Clan Killer but there had still been blood; Toshiko’s birth had been hard on Mikoto. Harder than either Itachi’s or Sasuke’s. The Iryo-nin had needed to perform an emergency  C-section, Mikoto had begun to hemorrhage and what had turned into her third labor became her last as in the end, the maternity wards staff had ended up needing to perform an emergency hysterectomy.
But that hadn't been what brought Fugaku to his knees; waiting for some kind news on Mikoto and the baby with the boys— Itachi, Sasuke, and Shisui because after nearly three years Shisui had become like another son —hadn’t been what had brought Fugaku to his knees. No, what had made the Military Police Chiefs knees begin to shake had been the pink coated iryo-nin placing his daughter in his arms.
He hadn’t known a baby could be so small. Neither Sasuke nor Itachi had been so small when they had been born.
He hadn’t known a baby could be so beautiful.
She had Mikoto’s coloring; like the boys Fugaku could tell she would look more like his wife then him but she had his nose’s bridge and when she opened her eyes and Fugaku’s knees hit the hospital’s maternity ward flooring all he could think about was how those had been his mothers eyes.
They were sharper— more narrow —than both Itachi and Sasuke and not nearly as dark. The boys had gotten Mikoto’s eyes; Madara’s eyes. But she, his daughter— his Toshiko —had gotten his mothers eyes. His eyes.
Her tongue rolled out from between her lips as her eyes blinked closed then open slowly. Fugaku could hear the boys in the hallway getting impatient and rowdy, he could hear Mikoto’s heavy breathing from her bed as she slept peacefully, still unaware that the baby in his arms would be their last.
She’s always wanted such a big family. One that had put her own great-grandfathers to shame.
“Hello my sweet girl,” Fugaku said softly. Had he ever spoken in such a tone to either of his boys, not even when they had been born, “I am your father.”
There was so much he could tell her. When he had first held Itachi he had told the newborn boy that he was head of the village military police force, that he was clan head and he would make sure his first born would have the world.  When he had held Sasuke he had promised him much of the same, though not the exact. He couldn’t, as second born Sasuke would never inherit what Itachi would but still, nonetheless, Fugaku  had promised the boy power and honor and notability.
He promised to make him a great ninja, an even better man and the best of the Uchiha.
But he didn’t do that with her; he didn’t promise Toshiko power or notability, Fugaku didn’t swear to turn her into the best— the smartest, the toughest, the most elegant —woman to ever be brought up in the hidden leaf like he had done with his sons. She was already so perfect he hadn’t felt the need to promise her a world that was already hers for the taking.
So instead he swore, “I’m going to protect you. You won't know the feelings of loss or pain, nor hurt. Not the way I have. Not while I’m around, my girl. Not while I can protect you.”
And a chuckle echoed throughout the room, a warm, bell-like one that warmed Fugaku’s heart. The clan head looked up from his daughter and to the bed his wife had turned over in, onto her side so that she was looking at him and their youngest.
“Who would have thought,” Mikoto said with a grimace, “Wicked-Eye Fugaku, wrapped around his newborn daughter's finger.” Fugaku couldn’t help but smirk.
“Yes well, perhaps don’t tell anyone my love, I do have a reputation.” It was almost ironic, one would think living in a shinobi village would mean everyone had tight lips but Fugaku knew if word got out that he was— would be —at the will of his infant daughter, then everyone in Fire Country would know before tomorrow morning's breakfast.
And while part of him wouldn't mind— he wanted the world to know he loved his family; that he had fallen to his knees at the sight of his newborn daughter out of love —Fugaku knew no one could because he was the Chief of Police, the Uchiha Clanhead, a hero of the Third War and any sign of weakness would have the sharks circling.
And he couldn't protect his family— his daughter —if that happened.
“My lips, my dear, are sealed,” Mikoto promised, “Though, perhaps you should try to control your smile. You are making it a bit obvious.” And Fugaku's smile got larger.
“Of course my love.” Mikoto held her arms out.
“May I?”
“You’re her mother, you don't have to ask.”
“Please,” Mikoto rolled her eyes a habit Sasuke had picked up as of late, even if he didn't quite realize what it meant —“if this is any indication, the moment she starts moving, she’ll be trailing after you and I'll be long forgotten.”
Fugaku laughed. It was low and rumbled as not to wake Toshiko up but his heart squeezed pleasantly in his chest and a pressure built up behind his eyes as chakra flooded them and his committed the scene— Mikoto holding Toshiko, close to her chest, tired but with a face only a mothers love could reflect —to memory.
I’ll protect you, Fugaku swore to the sleeping newborn. I’ll keep you safe.

A continuation from this: hope you like it @books-n-guns ;) took me long enough
.*.
Mikoto had suggested a restaurant for their not-date, but any kind of restaurant fancier than a food stand makes her uncomfortable. Her options are limited but she also has intention on making this as comfortable for him either.
She hears the flapping of the noren being pushed aside and she’s looking up at the vaguely terrifying features of Mikoto’s erstwhile suitor. He doesn’t look like he smiles a lot—or at all, really.
But he’s polite enough, doesn’t wrinkle his nose at the simple food that’s slid across the counter to them, and eats with enough of an appetite that Kushina grudgingly admits he’s not too bad. If only it weren’t for the near-monotone of his voice. At this point she’d gladly take Minato’s stupidly philosophical rambling.
T&I, Mikoto said. Torture and Interrogation. Kushina is pretty sure he just talks his victims to death. She feels pretty close herself, even as she hums vaguely in response to any of his (infrequent) questions. It seems enough to keep him going. Right now he’s on some complaint about the washing machines in his apartment building getting clogged with sand from too many nin returning from Suna missions.
She inhales another bowl, catching the vendor’s eye. If she’s going to be stuck here for the foreseeable future, at least she’ll be well fed. Fugaku continues his diatribe, surprisingly talkative for someone who looks like his fingernails are being forcibly removed. It becomes a background hum, mixing with the chatter of other patrons and the clanking pans.
Until he says something she really can’t ignore.
Kushina, who’s zoned out the whole time he’s been talking, jolts back into awareness. She realizes she’s holding her chopsticks like she’s ready to stab him with them. “I’m sorry. What did you just say about Obito?”
It’s a credit to Fugaku’s seeming lack of social awareness that he doesn’t notice the edge to her voice. He blinks, unsmiling mouth curling further into a frown. “I assumed Mikoto had told you. With his grandmother not being able to—”
“No. I heard what you said.” She hadn’t. But that isn’t the point. She’ll simply ask Mikoto later. “But what did you say about Obito?” He’s one of her favorite genin, has more of a personality than most of the others and isn’t afraid to get sassy. And she’s pretty sure Fugaku just called him a half-breed.
Not in those words, exactly—but putting that kind of emphasis on Obito being part Senju and with that expression, there’s not much room for interpretation. She knows the Uchiha have a long-seated dislike of the Senju—everyone does—but her threshold for bigotry is very low.
For the first time the entire evening, his eyes are fixed completely on her. The prospect of Wicked Eye Fugaku’s complete and undivided attention would have sent many other shinobi running for the hills. But Kushina is a predator in her own right and she can read challenge in those inky eyes.
With a chill, she realizes he’s been testing her the entire ‘date’. Finding out what gets reactions, what buttons to push. He’s been toying with her. What for, she doesn’t know. She’s never even talked to Uchiha Fugaku in her life and she doesn’t know what Mikoto’s told him, if anything. But either he’s got some grudge or there’s something else going on. And Kushina doesn’t like being toyed with.
Her palm cracks down on the counter and that’s all the warning the patrons of the stand get.
While her being a jinchuuriki isn’t common knowledge, her being an Uzumaki is. People dive out of the way the moment she’s on her feet. It’s a messy fight in such close quarters, kunai digging deeply into the counter and the cook shouting something at them.
It doesn’t take long before the fight spills into the street and there’s suddenly space for them to exploit in the war they’re waging. Civilians and shinobi alike crowd out of the way with the frankly terrifying knowledge that an Uchiha and an Uzumaki are trying to kill each other.
But Kushina is intent only on the Uchiha asshole, wondering for the thousandth time why she’d said yes to Mikoto’s dubious request. It’d be one date, she’d said. You’d never see each other after it. But Kushina has a feeling that they’ll be seeing each other more than is wise.
Several senbon whistle just past her cheek and she whips a thin chakra chain back in retaliation. Fugaku isn’t nearly as powerful, but he’s fast.
His eyes spin red and Kushina can’t stop the rush of excitement that courses through her. She’s always wanted to fight a Sharingan user and Mikoto, while willing, has yet to even achieve a second tomoe. Fugaku is on an entirely different level, brutal and willing to go to whatever lengths.
She can feel the Kyuubi stir uneasily inside her—but he remains silent and still, for which she’s grateful. Sharingan users have been used since the first jinchuuriki’s sealing as a protective measure and she doesn’t care for distractions now.
They whirl around each other, mismatched but equally balanced—power and expertise fighting for dominance. And Kushina can’t stop the feral grin splitting her face. This is what she’s been missing, what she’s been searching for during battle. True competition.
It would have continued, true ninja-style, all the way through the village—but with one of his senbon pricking the artery in her throat and her fingers curled around a kunai pressed to his ribs, there’s no way to ignore the fact they’ve fought to a standstill. Kushina realizes just how close they’ve ended up, practically in each other’s arms.
She leaps back, frantically putting space between them. Fugaku doesn’t follow. He remains statue-like, sendon bristling in his fingers. Kushina can’t stop herself from thinking she sees approval in his now-black eyes.
The spell has broken and their surroundings seep back into place. But Kushina won’t (can’t) look away from the man. And he looks back with an expression she can’t read..
All she knows is that this is a truce, balanced on the blade of a kunai.
One more move and it could start all over again. Either way they’re not going to let this go, and there is promise in their eyes—there will be a rematch. And when they do, there will be no holds barred. Nothing stopping them from bringing this—whatever this is—to completion.
And when Kushina turns and disappears into the crowd that has gathered, Fugaku is left alone in the middle of the street. People eye him warily as they begin to assess the damage in the aftermath. But no one approaches him.
Fugaku wipes the blood from his mouth, and looks after the redhead with the barest trace of a smile.

Update on my future Charasuke x Menma video series
Part 2
Sasuke’s Dad died. (I don’t know how or why, yet. I’m still thinking on that.) So Kakashi’s talking with him about it. Because, this Charasuke is the complete opposite of canon Sasuke. Yet, ever since his Dad died. He’s been acting rather odd. It’s understandable that he’d be depressed. But, he’s starting to worry him. Because, Charasuke is always putting himself in harms way. It’s like if he’s in a hurry to die. He’s always trying to rescue people even, if it means nearly dying during missions. He’s also the strongest he’s ever been. But, he’s always putting himself down and thinking he’s not good enough. He’s constantly his own worst critic and tells himself that he’s still too weak.
Kakashi: Are you sure you don’t want to talk about it? I mean, there’s nothing wrong with you physically. But, you’re a completely different person now.
Charasuke: …
Kakashi: You seem to pay extreme attention to discipline now and to weighing the value of human life.
Charasuke: Is that going to cause problems?
Kakashi: These are positive traits for a ninja. Do you think subconsciously you’re comparing yourself to your… Father?
Charasuke: …
Kakashi: That may be the underline cause of your insecurity. It’s quite common in the children of famous people. Your father, the former, Fugaku Uchiha. Also known as, Fugaku of the wicked eye, was the Leader of the entire Uchiha clan. He was a great man.
Charasuke: *fakes his old cheerful grin* It’s not like that, at all. I’m fine. Don’t worry about me. Now if you’ll excuse me. I’ve got to get back to training. I need to get stronger and fast. So that I can bring back, Menma.
