Feel safe and secure in your own private cocoon. Listen to your breath, relax your facial muscles, and allow your low back to be heavy as you rest your hips on your heels. Play around with where you place your hands. Maybe try behind you instead of out in front. If you normally bring your knees close together, try spreading the knees apart allow for your body to settle in the V you’ve created. It is the best investment in your self care. I’ve been known to watch a show while in sphinx especially if the lower back is saying a loud hello to me!⠀ ⠀ The posture also helps in improving blood circulation while relieving the body of stress. It opens the chest, lifting the heart, allowing more space to the lungs. It strengthens the legs and the arms. Actually it strengthens and stretches the whole body. Let's bring it back but with a #yoga twist!⠀ ⠀ From @sierrayogawellness :: Who knew? Plank pose is one of the best exercises for the core and having a strong core is super important. Why? The abdominal muscles provide support to our entire back and spine. Plank also stretches out the muscles that may contribute to stress and tension in the body. So, it may calm the mind and reduce anxiety. ⠀ ⠀ Do it once a day, starting at 10 second holds and build up to one minute or more. You’ll notice better posture and balance. It is not only grounding and calming to the body and mind but gives you all of the benefits of doing an inversion. ⠀ ⠀ This is my go to pose on stressful day. A couple of minutes is all you need to feel refreshed!
