i can’t believe this will just be me rambling about ONE song but the reason why i love classical sm is for the way it can literally tell you a narrative and evoke a whole spectrum of emotions with absolutely no words. like it is such a beautiful thing to convey stories purely told from the compositions and interplay of instruments.

i’m not a musical expert or a musician but when i can hear a story being told i get so caught up in it and i’m outing myself as a silly goose but it’s such a visceral experience for me (which is why i sometimes tear up when i’m listening to live performances sskjhahwkajwja). anyway the point of me saying all this is that there is a specific song i always associate with ryucifer because it kind of sets the tone for our dynamic and lore. scratches head i don’t have a lot of om mutuals or know who is willing to read something this long-winded about a single song from a specific genre but honestly that’s okay. if i didn’t get this piece of lore out of my system i would’ve imploded. so read only if you want to!

i’d like to think this song mirrors how lucifer and i interact with each other from the moment we meet to the day we accept our feelings for one another. he obviously isn’t my enemy but in the beginning, as i settle at the HoL, he’s clearly wary of me despite his brothers accepting me. lucifer remains polite and guarded, but he keeps his distance - almost like he’s waiting for me to prove myself. either as trustworthy or as trouble. and i think this dynamic is captured at the start of the song with its gentle and innocent melody.

i’ve decided to adopt this scene from early og game where he asks mc for a dance at diavolo’s castle and use it for ryucifer lore. i can’t actually remember how the canon scene went but basically for ryucifer, on the surface, the dance comes across like a formal gesture however as we move across the floor, the mood shifts entirely much like how the song does at 0:25-0:28 (it’s actually my fave part of the song). what starts off as light becomes much darker and that’s exactly how the scene unfolds. yeah so lucifer asks me to dance, and i assume it’s a gesture of good faith. then i realise it’s anything but. he actually uses the dance as a cover to deliver a threat: that he’s watching me and if i bring harm to his brothers, there’ll be consequences.

the tension peaks at the end of the dance when he squeezes my hand tight enough to make me wince and pull it away. he gives me a smile that doesn’t quite mask the threat in his eyes and walks away like nothing abnormal has transpired. i’m not afraid of him but i don’t know how to react, and i’m ultimately left feeling off balanced bc wtf. and ouch? it was unsettling (and i hate to say it) but strangely compelling.

as the song progresses, it becomes gentler, like how lucifer’s walls start to come down over time. they don’t disappear entirely because he’ll always be lucifer but they soften in ways that are almost imperceptible unless you’re paying close attention. the suspicion gives way to a grudging respect, then to affection that neither of us fully acknowledges at first. this slow unraveling of his defenses matches the song’s progression since the darker undertones fade and the melody grows warmer and more open

and pardon me if i’m using the wrong term but the crescendo around 2:20 is like a culmination of everything. as if this part of the song reflects the moment we finally accept what’s between us. it’s lush and expansive. it’s not rushed or sudden, like our love. and by that point we’ve stopped fighting against whatever is pulling us together and have decided to let it flow naturally. our relationship still feels like a literal and figurative dance (and since we both love classical, it always will) but it no longer feels like a battle or an act of wariness. instead it’s fluid and full of trust. we are moving in sync and learning to rely on each other <3

so yeah, the title of the song fits the story it’s trying to tell because if i imagined this whole scenario then the composer is definitely doing something right!!!!! thanks for reading my essay? analysis? word vomit??? whatever this is lmfaooooo thank you for making it this far :o)

You got down from the pipe and walked up to them, not taking your eyes off of the “clone” version of your boyfriend. Your mask peeled off the same way G’s did, revealing your beautiful but tired face.

You had seen the day Mr. Morales died, you almost died that day. Everything was going fine, everyone was gathered at the park for a cookout. Music, laughter, and smiles was the only thing you could see. Miles was smiling so widely, his laughter being contagious for you. All of it was so nice…til it wasn’t. Some f*ck head gangster decided that the cookout was a good place to test out his shooting abilities.

Mr. Morales died a hero, he was trying to save you, you were the closest to him at the moment. Miles wasn’t nearby so he had to get someone to safety. You were already shot and losing blood, he had to do something. As he was trying to get you to safety, he got shot in the process. You had already passed out from shock so you didn’t see it happen but it still stuck with you.

You feel that you were the reason he got shot, you were the reason he died. Survivors guilt like a mf. Rio and Miles had reassured you that it wasn’t your fault, all of your friends and family reassured you that it wasn’t your fault. But you still can’t help but think it was.

Y/n stood next to G, eyeing every little trait the clone had that was similar to Miles.

“Hmph…quite scrawny aint he” you joked, putting your arm on G’s shoulder and leaning on him.

The clone Miles stared at you with sadness and disbelief, it was you, but it wasn’t. His y/n was always cheerful and happy, always with a smile on their face. His y/n died, y/n died trying to save him from kingpin. The y/n he was looking at looked as if they’ve seen better days, there was no hope in this y/n’s eyes, no joy or anything. But this y/n was alive, this y/n is breathing and looking STRAIGHT into his eyes.

“...y/n?” Miles choked out, with a tear strolling down his eyes.

“Damn…I must’ve died in his world by the way he lookin’ at me” You said, softly laughing a bit.

Miles took a second to gather his thoughts, you weren’t his y/n. This “conversation” clearly showed that. He had to go, maybe he pleaded more and reached some caring and innocent part of you and G.

You and Miles activated your metal claws and put both of them on the sides of his head. Nearly moving in sync.

Doesn’t want his baby hurt :(( frets and freaks out like not really freaks out cause I think he’d be calm but he cares. Wants to know how it happened and if you’re in pain. If someone else caused it he’s out to kill. You ask him to sign your cast and he almost sobs. Doesn’t let you lift a finger. He never lets you lift a finger but even more so now. Helps you shower or take a bath and is just so careful. Loves to wash your hair for you. Puts in effort too to learn how you do your hair. Helps you get dressed even if you’re like I can do that >:(( cause he doesn’t want you to overwork yourself. Helps you carry things. If you came to him crying when it happened his poor heart would shatter. Getting a cast to match his eyes :((. He wouldn’t like that you’re hurt but I think he’d like taking care of you more. Like he understands you wanting to do things for yourself and thats why he never pushed before but now he has a reason to push. Complaining about how you look with the cast thinking it makes you look ugly or something and he’s instantly like. Take that back. Take it back. Cause you’re cute always don’t you see? He just wants to nurse you back to health. He loves you so much.

THIS. GAME. IS. GORGEOUUUSSSS AAAHHAGHAHH OH MY FUCKINGNGNHNHNGN CODDDD 10/10 GAVE MYSELF A HEADACHE BINGING IT THE ENTIRE DAY 9AM TO 11PM

ahem. very first thing i noticed was the bg elements being in sync w the music on ohhhohgh my holy fuck whatever nintendo is doing w microdosing their games w some rhythm game elements it is fucken wORKING.

i noticed the ink is shimmery like it was in splat2's finalfest ink, and also when you walk/swim in it it sounds like sand??? i Did not like that bc of The Phantom Textures it gave me at first but it's a really cool concept!!!

ok from here or there r gonna be SPOILERS going from light to heavy bc i finished this thing on like my fourth run(???? genuinely didn't think i would finish it so fast, i was really hoping to savour it better but the hyperfixation really locked in 😭😭😭) so um yeah SPOILER WARNING don't say i didn't warn u :p

ok first off, acht. UGH I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. I LOVE HOW ANIMATED ALL THE CUTSCENES ARE HRRRNGNNGRH. AND THE MUSIC?? OF THE TUTORIAL BOSS????? IS SO FUCKING COOL HELLO???? I DID NOT EXPECT TO SEE MARINA SO SOON, WHY DID NINTENDO FRAME HER DISAPPEARANCE LIKE THAT 💥💥💥💥💥💥

also aGENT 4 MENTIONN!!!!! i'm kind of really sad that the intensifying_harmony(? i forgor the name) boss fight didn't at least have a Trace, a Hint, a Crumb that it was agent 4 somewhere in there. i thought that bc we were given agent 4's palette so early that she was gonna at least have sOME part in side order but no 😭😭

speaking of side bosses the very first time i encountered the layered rotating one i was like. genuinely scared when the ambience when out as i rode the cage to the stage n then the music just blasted 😭😭 but i think its gotta be my fav bos fight of the three :] i'm particularly fond of its soundeffects n such! idk what it is abt them but they're like a safe horror to me if that makes sense hshfkf

and the final boss,, ohhhhohggh myhccod that was the most cathartic boss fight ever. again with the rhythm elements it makes everything so satisfying!! AND THE PART WHERE YOU LITERALLY HAVE TO TAP TO THE RHYTHM. I SCREAMED. OTH FEAT DEDF1SH. AAAUGAHAUAGH ACHT AND MARINA DJING TOGETHER, ACHT'S GAYASS PIERCINGS. N THEIR SINGING VOICE IS SO PRETTY FUUUUCKCJHCHCGCH

n then after that, the 30f boss u fight after having completed the spire once already,, I LOVE THE MUSIC THAT PLAYS THERE SO MUCH 😭😭😭😭 and smollusk,, what the fuck is up with that guy (lovingly)
