originally put this in the tags and realised it made a massive unreadable block of text sooo putting it in the body instead
i also think it is very very helpful - especially with things like denser political/economic/scientific articles - to see if you are able to neutrally paraphrase the content into your own words (your OWN words!! not feeding it into chatgpt etc!! the work of doing this is the entire point). you want to check if you are able to answer basic questions based entirely on facts provided within the body of what you are reading, with minimal inference/filling in gaps/jumping to worst (or best) case scenarios.
the best questions to ask deal with those fundamental question words we all deal with in primary/elementary school
what: what is happening? what has been discovered or proven?
when: when was the article published? (<- arguably the most important question; check you're not reposting content from, for example, the previous trump presidency as if it's current news). when did the events being described happen, or when are they planned to happen?
where: where is it happening? (in particular, check that you are not falling victim to phenomena like us-centricism here. e.g. it's wild that i have to say this but seeing as it's a real mix up that's happened on here, if an article mentions "georgia", are they talking about the country or the state?)
who: who is making it happen? who are they working with? who are they working against? who are these people in a broader context (e.g. if a government official is mentioned, can you identify what branch of government they work for? if a scientist, economist, businessperson, etc, is mentioned, do you know what company/institution they're affiliated with and what their specialty or industry is?)
why: why is a politician (in their own words) enacting a specific policy? why is this economic phenomenon happening?
how: how is this policy going to be enforced? how did scientists make this discovery?
and some bonus what questions: (in the case of e.g. government policy) what barriers might they face towards enacting this? what are some potential (realistic/tangible/short or medium term - this is not the place for long term catastrophising) consequences if it does/does not come to pass?
if you are unable to answer these questions (or you just can't be arsed - happens to us all sometimes) you have two options: don't repost the content at all, or repeat the process finding additional sources that fill in the gaps you were unable to answer the first time round. because either you don't understand key fundamental factual aspects of what the original was trying to say, OR the source itself is too vague/biased/unreliable/uninformative to be used as a worthwhile source of news in its own right.
it should go without saying that this goes hand in hand with op's original points about checking for bias, credibility, etc - you may be able to answer all of these questions based on a single article but the "facts" presented to you therein could still very well be total bullshit. but i see so many examples on here of people reposting articles where it's very clear they have skimmed it and filled in what they think it is saying, so i think it's very important to not just check how reliable & trustworthy your news is, but also to make sure you actually understand it before you share it any further.
it's completely okay to not understand things on your own, but sharing - and unquestioningly believing - things you don't fully comprehend based on what you kind of think is going on (especially if you append some sort of fear-mongering summary based on the worst case scenario you could possibly glean from the headline or a brief skim or an explainer from your favourite generative AI model) is a very common way not only for misinformation and panic to permeate, but also for propaganda to sink its teeth into you.
(p.s. you don't need to actually write down and paraphrase every single news article you read - just asking the questions in your head can be enough and it becomes a pretty much automatic process once you've had enough practice at it - but if you're really struggling with a particular article writing it down like it's a proper school worksheet can be helpful. yes, it's extra work, but combating the spread of misinformation is worth that work.)
Not perfect and not always right but basically:
Is it a screen shot?
Is there a link?
Did you click/read the link?
Was it a real source (AP wire, local news, the original online post - not Fox, not the Sun, not NY Post, etc)?
Did you find any confirmation?
Did it strongly confirm a bias or suspicion?
Did it make you feel angry, smug, disgusted, superior, and/or helpless?
Is it important enough to you that you think it needs to be shared?
Do you have the energy, time, ability to research, confirm, and provide sources, links, and some additional clarifying details?
Generally I have this in mind, not necessarily always and not always observed, and I forget and blah blah. But it's a pretty simple guide to remember, and honestly items 1 and 9 cover me most of the time.

So the official logo for Sonic 4 was released along side some concept art from Sonic 3 and Well well well, it looks like I might've been right about Sonic 4 being possibly a Time travel story, because judging from what I'm seeing it looks that's what might actually happen, which begs the question: What's next for Sonic 4? Like it's obvious that after Sonic 4 they wanna continue the franchise, however that's basically impossible Because there's only so much you can do before eventually things start to get stale especially when you have it take place in a "realistic" setting, (after all this world isn't like the games) so in a series that is basically structured like this what is the next step after Sonic 4, And I tell ya after taking some time to think on that, I think I might have come up with the Ultimate conclusion, and that is instead of just ending the story right here, why not just start a new trilogy, let me explain.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now this may sound crazy to a lot of people but What If Sonic's 4 5 and 6, is basically the start of a Time travel trilogy, with Sonic 4 being the film that introduces that concept with having Amy traveling back in time to save Sonic and possibly prevent the future Terminator style, and then with Sonic's 5 and 6 introducing the next big characters like SILVER! Like what if at the end of Sonic 4 after defeating metal Sonic they end up basically thinking that things are ok, only for Silver to show up and basically accuse Sonic for destroying the future by explaining to him on how not only did he mess things up even more, but that metal sonic isn't even probably gone, and then in the next film you can probably have Silver, Sonic and maybe even Shadow, go up against someone like either NEO metal Sonic or maybe even Mephiles, with the 3rd film setting up the endgame by introducing Blaze (Silver's partner in crime) and have her basically explain that not only are things still broken, but that something bigger is coming, something or SOMEONE like Black Doom?
Tumblr media
This will basically give them the chance to explain Shadow's origins a bit more and maybe even pave the way for his spin off by introducing the concept of the Sol emeralds. Omg i don't know about you, but that sounds absolutely effing COOL >_< but lemme know what you guys think, do ya agree with my idea's or do you basically think that Sonic 4 might not even go this route let alone set up a new trilogy, and that they should basically end things right here?

cw: platonic!zoro x reader. established romantic relationship with luffy. selfship-coded, reader has a devil fruit.
It’s not often that you and Zoro end up alone together, but today it really is just the two of you, him carrying the majority of the provisions you’d gone into town to collect for the next leg of your trip, and the remainder in the safekeeping of your internal storage.
“Are you sure you don’t want me to just stow away the rest?” you ask for the third time and by this time, Zoro decides to pretend he can’t hear you. In any other scenario, you’d make a comment about him needing to get over that silly fear of being emasculated, but for now you allow it, shoving your free hands in your pockets as you continue on on your stroll.
Even if when you’re around the rest of the crew there’s a huge and frequent show of you generally disliking each other, it’s hard to bicker when it’s just the two of you, because the truth is that you appreciate him tremendously. Zoro doesn’t always talk much, but he’s honest, and that is particularly important to you, making it easy to pour out your heart to him.
Perhaps that’s why today, you feel compelled to tell him exactly how you’ve been feeling these days since your return from the last island. Luffy has been asleep for days, recovering from injury that would probably have killed you on the spot, and while he apologized upon waking up two days ago to see you saddled with huge undereye circles and an open book with tear-staged pages at the foot of his bed, the fact of the matter is that you’re not sure how much longer you can handle this.
The crew is familiar with his wanton disregard for his own life, and perhaps you should know better by now, but it’s just too hard sometimes, and you can feel your heart starting to fill with resentment, and even that adds to your guilt.
Luffy is free, and freedom means choosing to live your life however dangerously you want.
“You know I hate complaining about him, and I know you’ll just tell me that I shouldn’t expect otherwise from Luffy, but just once, I wish he would take better care of himself.”
The thought slips out in a small voice, and Zoro lets it marinate in the quiet afternoon air. Discomfort rises like bile in your throat.
“I shouldn’t have said anything,” you immediately backtrack, but Zoro looks at you and shrugs.
“I get it. It’s fine.”
You bite your lower lip, keeping the gaze at the ground before you. Zoro should know that you’re only frustrated, that you love Luffy more than anything, and don’t mean to speak ill of him, right? It’s just eating at you, the idea that only one of you is preoccupied with the idea of separating for good.
Luffy would be fine without you even in death. You, on the other hand…
You take in a deep breath.
“I trust him,” you say out loud, to which Zoro chuckles to himself for a moment, which makes your cheeks warm in embarrassment.
“What’s so funny?!”
“That you’re this worried about him.” Zoro shoots you a glance, and mercilessly adds -
“Realistically, you’d probably croak before he does.”
“Wow!” you exclaim in dramatized offense.
Zoro shrugs. “I mean, I guess he probably cares enough about you that he wouldn’t allow that to happen, but still, I don’t think much can put that guy down for good.”
You pout, but something about that is reassuring, and that heaviness in your chest seems to alleviate just so.
“I guess that’s a relief.”
Zoro snorts again, which has you frowning at him again.
“Is it really this funny?” you ask, indignantly, but when he finally speaks again, his tone is serious.
“I think you’re misunderstanding him a bit,” he finally adds. Stopping for a moment, he gives you his full attention, and suddenly your heart starts to thump at the change in mood. He sizes you up for a moment, as if he’s trying to decide if what he has to tell you is worth it in any way, then lets out a sigh.
“He told me if something ever happened to him, there are a few things he wants to make sure happen for you, so that you’re okay.”
Your eyes widen for a moment, incredulous.
“What?”
Zoro resumes his stride.
“Can’t tell you what they are, though.”
You find yourself running to catch up to him, your heart pounding in your chest. The idea that Luffy has thought ahead, considering you even in the process, is almost too good to be true.
“So what was the point of even telling me?!” you hiss.
“So you don’t make up some narrative about not being cared for in your head, dumbass.” Zoro says. You stick your tongue out at him which has him scoff and look away, but you’re thankful.
The ship starts to reappear along the horizon and your outlook has changed a bit.
By the time you make it back on the ship again, Luffy has woken up from his restorative slumber and is already asking you if you brought any meat amongst your groceries, an arm looping around your shoulders and your waist. But instead of pushing him off of you for grabbing you too quickly, you look at him for a moment, and the sudden affection in your eyes is enough that it actually catches him by surprise.
“Hey, ___, what’s up?” he asks as you really take him in, but you just smile and plant a kiss on his cheek.
“Nothing. I’m just glad you’re back.”
He grins widely.
“Can’t get rid of me if you tried.”

A Needlessly Thorough Analysis of What Hardening Actually Means for Alistair
Tumblr media
You can also read this analysis in a Google Doc if you find that format more palatable: here.
(I do recommend desktop for the comfiest viewing in either case, but both should be serviceable.)
Disclaimer: If critical discussion of a character’s feelings, motivations, and reactions to certain in-game choices could be personally upsetting to you, maybe don’t read this. None of this analysis is me judging you/your choices as a player, I am simply looking through the lens of Alistair’s characterization and the in-universe consequences of choices. Of course this analysis will be colored by my own bias, it’s inevitable. I can’t realistically include every potentially relevant line of dialogue, but I’m always happy to discuss if you think there’s something crucial I left out.
Hardened Alistair is often described as learning to stand up for himself and becoming more assertive, but why? Is it an accurate assessment? Even Alistair himself reacts to the hardening dialogue by saying he’s going to start thinking for himself and looking out for himself more, so surely it’s true… right?
To the contrary, I would actually argue that hardened Alistair tends to put others before himself more than unhardened Alistair. Let’s start by looking at how he becomes hardened.
The Hardening Process
After meeting Goldanna, Alistair is understandably devastated to find that the family he’s been dreaming of his whole life is not what he had hoped. He’s just been yelled at and turned away by the sister he’s never met, the only family he’s ever had a chance of knowing. He’s lost his hope at finding that sense of connection and belonging he’s always been looking for.
If the Warden wants to harden Alistair, they need to tell him, “Everyone is out for themselves. You should learn that.”
The message being sent is basically: suck it up, move on, grow up. This is the way the world is. Stop being so idealistic.
The message Alistair seems to receive, however, is a bit more complicated. In the follow-up conversation after meeting Goldanna, Alistair tells you that his takeaway from the hardening dialogue was that he needs to look out for himself more. This is, obviously, perfectly in line with the common belief that hardened Alistair is more assertive and more willing to stand up for himself.
But is that the reality that we see reflected in hardened Alistair’s choices?
Pre-hardening, Alistair tells you many times that he feels like no one cares what he wants; he believes it’s unfair and openly complains about it. Hardened Alistair, however, knows that no one cares what he wants and he accepts that as the way things are and must be. Unhardened Alistair will freely say he doesn’t want to be king and fights against it until he can fight it no more, while hardened Alistair will accept it, even going as far as to say he wants it.
Why would he change so suddenly from saying it’s his worst nightmare to saying he wants it? Does he mean it fully? Is this truly him seeking to fulfill his own wants and meet his own needs?
What actually changes if he’s hardened?
he is seemingly less reluctant about becoming king
if romanced, he will agree to a threesome with Isabela
he will agree to make you his mistress if you push the topic
if not married to Anora and chosen to fight Loghain, he will execute Loghain and take the throne
if not chosen to fight Loghain, he will insist on being made king
if married to Anora, he will become king instead of being exiled if Loghain is spared (Alistair will still leave your party, however)
he will approve of executing Jowan in Redcliffe
With the idea of “hardened Alistair putting his own wants/needs first” in mind let’s break them down one by one:
Note: some lines of dialogue have flags for “hardened”/“changed”, alternatively referred to as Alistair’s motivation being changed from “good to glory” or “Alistair 2”. These all refer to the hardening mechanic. The screenshots do have text that’s a bit small, because I wanted to be sure that I included the flags that show when lines are exclusive to hardened Alistair.
Less reluctance about becoming king
All along he’s said he doesn’t want it. You could potentially make a case that he didn’t truly feel that way and was only saying it because he’s insecure (which he is), but I don’t find this to be a terribly compelling argument.
Tumblr media
This is hardened Alistair’s response to being told he would be a good king after he’s decided to sacrifice himself. There are several lines like this that I feel contradict the theory that unhardened Alistair only says he doesn’t want to be king because he’s insecure in his abilities. It’s not that his insecurities are not a factor, it’s that hardening him doesn’t get rid of those things, meaning that this factor alone would not change his attitude about accepting potential kingship. In fact, he still believes that realistically Anora is better suited.
I’d argue that someone who has consistently said one thing without fail and is now only changing the tune after basically being told to shut up and grow up may not be expressing their truest desires. He is going along with what Eamon is telling him, with what the Warden is telling him, with what he’s told is his duty and responsibility. For the greater good, not for himself.
And you might be saying that can’t be true, hardened Alistair says he wants to be king!
Personally, I’d argue that Alistair saying he wants to be king is much the same as your average person saying they want a job. Do most people want to go to work every day? No, not really, but you have to because it’s just what you need to do. So when asked, you’d say you want a job. Of course you would, because you have to have one. But removed from that necessity, would you still say the same? Likely not. I believe the same holds true for Alistair. If he wasn’t being told at every turn that him being king is what must be done, he wouldn’t feel a need to bow to that.
Hardened Alistair confidently wanting to be king is often accepted as plain fact, when it’s really not so cut and dry. We can dig into some of his dialogue and really look at his feelings on the matter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hardened Alistair is saying he wants to be king. Even he’s surprised by it. But what is the context of this line? He’s about to sacrifice himself. He believes that his sacrifice–not living to rule–is the single best thing he can do as king.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But is it pure happiness and willingness, or is it a man simply trying to make the best of a situation he’s locked into? I vote for the latter.
Tumblr media
I often see the argument that having a Warden queen would make him happier with the idea of being king, but by all evidence it really doesn’t seem to be the case. Here is his response to the Warden confirming that she does want to be queen. Alistair still doesn’t like the idea of ruling. This isn’t a line exclusive to hardened Alistair, he will always have this line available.
Tumblr media
“I wouldn’t be in this position if it weren’t for you” … “you owe me” … Even hardened, Alistair seems to see being king as something negative being thrust upon him. A punishment, perhaps? What would his response be to being told that being king is not a punishment?
Tumblr media
On the surface, he agrees, but take a look at that VO comment for his actual feelings on it. He does consider it a punishment. This is indeed a line for hardened Alistair, as it occurs during the mistress conversation, which is a hardened Alistair exclusive.
Tumblr media
Even if hardened, Alistair would prefer to stay a Warden if he can.
Tumblr media
And if you don’t make hardened Alistair king? He’s grateful. Happy. Happier.
Agreeing to a threesome
Unhardened or hardened, he will push back when you suggest this. However, only hardened Alistair will relent and agree to it. Unhardened Alistair will simply refuse. Which one sounds more like someone standing up for his own wants?
Tumblr media
This is the path the conversation goes if Alistair is hardened. His initial refusal and discomfort with the situation remains, but if you tell him to go along, he will.
Tumblr media
He is, regardless, clearly not as comfortable with the situation as one should be. It certainly isn’t the kind of enthusiastic consent one would look for when asking someone to engage in a particular sex act. But he had fun, so it’s okay, right?
Tumblr media
Well… did he have fun? Isabela jokes about borrowing him in the future and it seems quite clear that he isn’t interested in a repeat occurrence. Not only is he not interested, he’s awkward, uncomfortable. “Oh, but he makes a joke about wet frocks right after this!” He does. But it’s Alistair. He’s constantly making jokes to mask his discomfort.
Agreeing to making the Warden his mistress
Again, he will push back on this at first, only relenting if he’s hardened and you push the issue. If unhardened, he’ll stand by his original statement that he feels it would be wrong. Is he just saying he believes it’s wrong, or is that what he truly believes? Based on what we know of Alistair, I’d say it’s far more likely that he truly does find the idea of making the Warden his mistress to be disrespectful both to the Warden and to his wife, and that he is somewhat disregarding his own beliefs on that to bend to the Warden’s insistence that he take a mistress.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Whether he’s marrying Anora or not, his views on the matter are the same. He intends to be loyal to whoever he marries, and he knows he cannot do so if he continues the relationship with the Warden.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s clear that he finds the entire idea distasteful.
Much like the threesome, you do have to press him to get him to agree. He’s quite set in his beliefs on the matter, but he will acquiesce if the Warden pushes it.
Insisting on becoming king in the context of dealing with Loghain
These are the choices where I’d say there is potentially a case to be made that Alistair is making the decision he wants to make. However, I wouldn’t say that the decision being made is that he wants to be king. I would argue that becoming king is simply a means to an end to give him the power to get revenge in the way he wants.
In the first potential scenario here, Alistair will insist on being made king if he is not chosen to fight Loghain. Why? He wants Loghain dead, and he isn’t being given the choice to make that happen. He wants the power to make that choice, all else be damned.
Tumblr media
Here you can see that hardened Alistair insists on taking the throne while making it abundantly clear that the reason for doing so is to take care of Loghain in the manner he wants.
Tumblr media
Unhardened Alistair does the same. Why? Because the motivation remains the same whether he’s hardened or not. Unhardened Alistair simply hasn’t become so resigned as to pretend he’s any less displeased with it than he is.
In the second potential scenario, Alistair is chosen to fight Loghain and kills him. He finally achieves the goal he’s been working towards all along: getting his revenge on Loghain. He’s running on that high when Eamon immediately suggests he take the throne, he says yes, he’ll do it. There’s not really anything to break down dialogue-wise in this scenario, as his acceptance of the throne is the exact same dialogue as it would be in any other case. He simply says he accepts when it’s proposed.
Is it what he truly wants? Maybe. You could make a case for it. However, I interpret it more as running on that adrenaline high, feeling powerful and not fully thinking it over in the moment.
Accepting being king & marrying Anora if Loghain is spared
Alistair has been tunnel visioned on getting his revenge on Loghain the entire time, and this is the only circumstance in which sparing Loghain will not result in Alistair leaving and becoming a drunk. He both accepts marrying Anora (which he isn’t happy about) and sparing Loghain (which is very counter to his wishes).
Tumblr media
He doesn’t like Anora and doesn’t want to marry her, but he does anyway. Hardened Alistair knows that marrying Anora is politically advantageous and prioritizes that over his personal desire to enact his vengeance, though he makes it clear to the Warden that his personal feelings on the matter have absolutely not changed.
Tumblr media
Hardened Alistair goes along with marrying Anora after Loghain is spared and leaves the party, unhappy with the Warden’s choice to spare Loghain. If this line alone didn’t make his displeasure clear enough, there’s also this one:
Tumblr media
He refers to the Warden’s actions as a betrayal. He’s obviously not happy.
Tumblr media
Unhardened Alistair, however, stands his ground and refuses.
Approving of executing Jowan
Another case of a changed tune to go along with what the Warden is doing. Unhardened Alistair actively disapproves of the Warden executing Jowan. We could assume that hardened Alistair is just more pragmatic, or perhaps simply more willing to accept it when the Warden tells him this is what must be done.
There is no Alistair specific dialogue to look at here, just the approval points, so it’s really just a matter of looking at what we know of him and the situation. I would say in general Alistair values life and values mercy. Are there exceptions? Yes. Loghain, for example, whose crimes Alistair has judged worthy of death. Clearly unhardened Alistair does not feel that way about Jowan. Hardened Alistair though? He approves of his execution, but is it because he personally thinks it’s best or is it because he accepts the Warden’s judgment?
I would argue that it’s the latter primarily because it’s completely in line with everything else we’ve seen from hardened Alistair. There really are just no solid cases of hardened Alistair asserting his own will when compared to unhardened Alistair, so I don’t see this case as being any different.
In Review
In each case of behaviors changed by hardening Alistair, we see him putting his own wants and needs on the backburner in favor of an externally imposed sense of duty or to bend to another’s will because he accepts that his personal feelings are irrelevant. I’d go as far as to say that hardening is really a misnomer, because what we’re really looking at would be better called resignation.
I actually didn’t include every single line I found of hardened Alistair expressing the sentiments I’ve laid out in this analysis because I didn’t want it to be too long, but there is more in the game. Now I will get into less concrete analysis and a bit more of an explanation of my own personal opinions on hardening.
Aside from looking at what hardening actually means for Alistair, we can also question its necessity. Do you need to do it if you want to do certain things in Origins (threesome, mistress ending, etc.)? Yes. But I often see people argue that hardening Alistair is necessary for him to grow or mature as a person, and I completely disagree.
My personal opinion is that hardening Alistair is neither necessary nor kind.
In terms of helping Alistair to grow as a person, I maintain that Alistair will become more naturally “hardened”, or more accurately, he will mature on his own if you give him the chance to do so. Why do I say so? Look at Alistair in Inquisition. That is not the same idealistic young man we see in Origins, and this remains true regardless of hardening status. Whether it’s Warden Alistair or King Alistair, he’s clearly grown and changed.
Sure, you can mod the game to make the hardening dialogue more palatable, but that’s an entirely different discussion. As is, you’re required to essentially kick him when he’s down, and I simply do not find it to be necessary for his own personal development.
If it’s not already completely obvious by me doing all of this in the first place, I really, really love Alistair. Of course I’m quite settled and happy as an unhardened Warden Alistair truther, but I’m always happy to discuss and debate. I’m very interested in any thoughts you might have, whether you agree with my assessment or not (as long as you’re nice).
Thank you for reading my (almost sickeningly thorough) little analysis if you made it this far!
As a treat (or unhardened Warden Ali propaganda depending on your perspective), here's my Warden, miss Neria Surana with her very happy unhardened Warden husband:

While I agree that not everything can be effectively translated from page to screen, I don’t buy that in this case. I just recorded myself reading these lines, not rushing, but reading them how I’d like to hear them spoken, and it took me 12 seconds. 12 seconds. It might take me one or two seconds longer if I really slowed down for emphasis. More on this in a minute.
Why do you think it would be comical? Not if it were done well, and Miranda Otto would certainly have done it well. Not if it were allowed to have the same importance that some of Tolkien’s other canonical dialogue had in the movies. This scene has nothing in common with a real emergency situation or a real combat situation, even if it’s depicting one: what it actually is is art, and the rules are different.
Was there time for Théoden to make his speech before the Battle of the Pelennor Fields? In a real emergency situation, shouldn’t they have just charged? Yes, but the thing is, it isn’t a real situation, it’s a story. It works for Théoden to make that speech. It makes the scene infinitely better. In fact, it’s one of the best scenes, if not the best scene, in both the books and the movies. This should have been treated no differently. Cutting down Éowyn’s dialogue didn’t make her scene work better, it removed the full gravitas that it could have had.
Théoden’s speech in the movie takes a long time. First he gives commands to Éomer, Gamling and Grimbold, and I’m not going to count that part, because it’s the most “realistic” part of his speech in the sense that it’s necessary for winning the battle. That takes about 11 seconds, for reference. Then this takes him 18 seconds to say: “Forth, and fear no darkness! Arise! Arise, riders of Théoden! Spears shall be shaken! Shields shall be splintered! A sword day, a red day, ere the sun rises!” After a pause, he says: “Ride now! Ride now! Ride! Ride for ruin, and the world’s ending!” That’s 11 more seconds of dialogue, not counting the pause. This is already significantly longer than Éowyn reading those lines would have been! And this is all before they start chanting “Death!”
Between “Forth, and fear no darkness” and the time they charge, more than a full minute passes. Is that realistic? Is that what you should really do in an emergency? No! But it's REALLY REALLY REALLY GOOD IN A STORY. If this speech had been cut down for brevity or so-called realism, the scene would have been much, much poorer for it.
Movies get a lot of criticism, often rightly, when opponents talk to each other during a fight, because it can seem absurd to talk while actively exchanging blows. But dialogue during a fight is different that dialogue before a fight. When Éowyn confronts the Witch-king, they’re not actually fighting yet. Théoden has just fallen beneath Snowmane and the fell beast has landed on it. He’s trapped. The Witch-king is in no hurry, and not only that, he’s used to being unopposed: most mortal Men fall to the ground in terror just at the sound of his voice. He has no expectation that anyone will try to challenge him, let alone kill him.
There’s actually even more dialogue before the quotation we’re talking about:
‘Begone, foul dwimmerlaik, lord of carrion! Leave the dead in peace!’ A cold voice answered: ‘Come not between the Nazgûl and his prey! Or he will not slay thee in thy turn. He will bear thee away to the houses of lamentation, beyond all darkness, where thy flesh shall be devoured, and thy shrivelled mind be left naked to the Lidless Eye.’ A sword rang as it was drawn. ‘Do what you will; but I will hinder it, if I may.’ ‘Hinder me? Thou fool. No living man may hinder me!’ Then Merry heard of all sounds in that hour the strangest. It seemed that Dernhelm laughed, and the clear voice was like the ring of steel. ‘But no living man am I! You look upon a woman. Éowyn I am, Éomund’s daughter. You stand between me and my lord and kin. Begone, if you be not deathless! For living or dark undead, I will smite you, if you touch him.’
Note that the fighting happens after this. She kills the fell beast and they fight after all this is said. Now the dialogue is long, and I understand cutting it down, and I get that there are changes that need to be made from page to screen. But we’re talking about 12 seconds, the part at the end right there, just 12 seconds, give or take.
Now let’s talk about the movie scene for a minute. It’s quite different:
Éowyn says, “I will kill you if you touch him.” The Witch-king says, “Do not come between the Nazgul and his prey.” She kills the fell beast. They fight. He chokes her, which didn’t happen in the book, and I really hate it because it was completely unnecessary. He says, “You fool. No man can kill me. Die now.” Merry stabs him in the leg. Éowyn says, “I am no man,” and kills him.
In my opinion, the way they expanded the fight part of this scene actually removed some of its drama. Cutting down the dialogue also removed its drama. The part where he choked her was awful and should have been changed. And do you see how in the movie version the dialogue is actually interspersed in the fighting, which is not the case in the book? That also reduced the drama of the scene. Imagine instead a version of the movie that more heavily relies on Tolkien’s dialogue and how the scene actually went:
The fell beast lands on Snowmane, poised to attack. Éowyn draws her sword and says, “Begone, lord of carrion! Leave the dead in peace!” The Witch-king says, “Thou fool. Come not between the Nazgûl and his prey. Or I will not slay thee in they turn, but bear thee away to the houses of lamentation, beyond all darkness, where thy flesh shall be devoured. No living man may hinder me!” Éowyn laughs and says, “But no living man am I! You look upon a woman. Éowyn I am, Éomund’s daughter. You stand between me and my lord and kin. Begone, if you be not deathless! For living or dark undead, I will smite you, if you touch him.” Then the fell beast attacks her and she chops off its head. The Witch-king attacks her and breaks her arm and Merry stabs him in the leg and she kills him.
This is so much more dramatic and carries so much more weight and meaning than the scene in the movie. Of course some things could be added or subtracted, and there are different ways it could be done, but I’m just showing you that the original dialogue could have played more of a role here. It not only adds to Éowyn’s gravitas, it adds to the power of the Witch-king and makes his defeat more satisfying. And it actually builds to a crescendo. It’s far better to have the dialogue first and the action after rather than breaking up the dialogue with an unnecessarily extended fight scene.
Tolkien knew what he was doing. It absolutely does make sense for Éowyn to verbally challenge the Witch-king this way, and it works within the style of writing and the story that Tolkien created. There were many times when his dialogue translated beautifully from page to the screen, and this could have been no different!
The movie dialogue could never measure up to this:
“But no living man am I! You look upon a woman. Éowyn I am, Éomund’s daughter. You stand between me and my lord and kin. Begone, if you be not deathless! For living or dark undead, I will smite you, if you touch him.”
How could anyone cut this?! How?! How?!?!?!?! These lines are so incredibly stirring, so powerful, so moving. “I am no man” doesn’t even come close.
First of all, I like that the negative statement of “No living man am I” is followed by the positive statement of “You look upon a woman.” It’s direct and definitive. She’s been disguised as Dernhelm up until this point—another thing that was cut from the movie—but now she’s revealing who she really is.
Second, in a similar way, I like that she says, “Éowyn I am, Éomund’s daughter.” It’s like a challenge. It’s like announcing one’s identity before a duel—which is in effect what she is doing.
Third, “You stand between me and my lord and kin.” This reminds me of one of the most poignant quotes from the book: “I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend.” It’s very important that Éowyn did this brave deed out of a desire to protect Théoden.
Finally, “Begone, if you be not deathless! For living or dark undead, I will smite you, if you touch him.” THIS IS LITERALLY SO AMAZING! THIS IS SO COURAGEOUS! I CAN’T EVEN EXPRESS HOW THIS MAKES ME FEEL! I don’t know which part is better—the fact that she threatens him, or that she gives him the choice to forfeit and flee the battlefield.
There’s an incredible heroic resoluteness to the final line, “For living or dark undead, I will smite you, if you touch him.” This, right here, is the essence of the courage of mortals in Tolkien’s books. It’s the acceptance of death, but the desire to go down fighting—the knowledge that death is inevitable, but the one thing we have control over is how we meet it.
Éowyn is facing Sauron’s most powerful servant, who is almost a personification of death itself, and she is declaring that no matter what he is, and no matter the outcome, she WILL fight him. When she says these lines, she doesn’t know that she and Merry will vanquish him. It’s sheer determination against impossible odds, it’s extraordinary courage in the face of death—and THAT is why this scene is so powerful.

hiii I hope I'm doing this correctly! I haven't been on Tumblr in ages but I stumbled upon your posts and would love to hear your recommendations for spicy bls that are realistic with not many goofy sound effects like in Thai bls. By spicy I mean shows or movies that do include some intimacy... I really enjoyed the pornographer, the cornered mouse dreams of cheese and my beautiful man. I don't mind the show being happy, I just want it to feel real. Jbls tend to be my preference lately because of that. TY
Spicy Realistic BLs with No Camp Aspects
similar to: Pornographer, The Cornered Mouse Dreams of Cheese, My Beautiful Man
Here's a short list of more recent stuff, since lots of my posts on this are somewhat (I put a star* next to the ones I think you'll especially like)
This Love Doesn't Have Long Beans
My Stand-In*
Jack and Joker
Deep Night
Every You Every Me
Unknown*
Love Sea
City of Stars (pulp warning)
At 25:00, in Alaska AKA 25 Ji, Akasaka de
To Be Continued
Step By Step
The Eighth Sense*
Jun and Jun
My Personal Weatherman AKA Taikan Yoho*
Love is Better the Second Time Around AKA Koi wo Suru nara Nidome ga Joto*
Bed Friend*
Never Let Me Go
Moonlight Chicken*
Between Us
Tokyo in April is AKA Shigatsu no Tokyo wa*
FYI I had to eliminate quite a few (like Pit Babe, Two Worlds, and The Sign, I Feel You Linger in the Air) because of your "realistic" restriction. That said I think you would REALLY enjoy IFYLITA.
More obscure and historic BLs
Older post: Everything not Thai qualifies, and some of the higher rated Thai stuff on this list:
Everything mentioned on this list also applies:
These BLs are all quite realistic, but may not always have high heat:
FYI
Hope that's helpful. There should be some stuff you haven't seen before.

Helloo 🙋🏼‍♀️, I’ve been thinking about this for a while. I haven’t read the book yet, but I follow a lot of book fans and would like your opinion on something. If Lestat loves and says “I love you” easily to everyone, albeit in different degrees, why would we think his love for Louis is different? it just feels like love isn't a big deal for him.
He loves Armand, David, Rowan, his mother, and I’ve even read that they might be more with Marius. I won’t talk about Niki since he’s dead, but why should we believe Louis is so special, when he is not even that present in the books? Don’t get me wrong, I love Louis! But I don’t see what makes him so special. Why would Lestat reject someone like Armand, who accepts vampirism and isn’t constantly fighting against his nature, or a David, in favor of Louis, who struggles with his condition? (I’m not trashing Louis, but he is more difficult when it comes to embracing what he is)
I love their scenes together both actors are at the top but i think what bother me the most is that it wasn't realistic how they fell in love you don't really see why? Yes it's fiction you have to suspend believe but sometimes i see their love described as this great big love story and i'm just like waiting to see.I'm digressin, sorry.
Hey!
Falling in love is not logical, and there is no "correct" way to do it.
You can fall head over heels, like they did, or slowly, over years, like Armand and Daniel did in the books.
Yes, Lestat loves easily, but "love" does not equal "love". Lestat also "loves" Armand, but it is not the same love.
Armand... Lestat saw the damage in Armand - we will get to see that in s3 I bet, and though there was attraction Armand did something that made sure there never would be something deeper between them - and I bet we will get to see that in s3, too :) Marius is a teacher and a friend, David is also maybe more than a friend, but they never reach the level of intimacy Louis and Lestat do. Rowan... Rowan he fingers, tells her he loves her and then sends her to live her life (and die, ultimately).
Not comparable. And, I mean, Gabrielle is his mother. THAT is quite another love, too.
As per Louis... Louis is just "it" for Lestat. He is sharp, keeps Lestat on his toes, is no pushover. Has a head of his own, allthewhile being deeply empathetic, and loving.
Lestat returns to Louis. Again and again. They always return to each other. Care for each other. Louis is the one book Lestat needs to come to him to France, into his old castle, so it become a "home" once more. Louis is the one for whom the intimacy in the books is always only implied, a curious detail which threads through nonetheless. Louis is the one who know what Lestat cannot tell.
Louis is the one Lestat loves.

Skizz is an amazing artist. One of the best if you ask the hermits. They all see his art and hang it up in their bases but when they ask Skizz to draw a night sky full of stars, he draws the stars as the way them as children would draw them. The image would be a very realistic picture then the stars. They would be out of place.
Impulse has the most art pieces of any of the hermits. It's not even close! I mean he has a whole city to make. He requests Skizz to do some art around the city as well. He knows Skizz does art to calm down and to just pass time. He always adored Skizz's art, but him seeing the number of night sky pieces he hates because of the stars. The stars. He can't tell why Skizz needs help with stars, but he does.
Impulse visits Skizz's area one day to just see what new project he is working on, just to not see him there. He looks around the area, around the mountain and around the other areas and doesn't find him. He decides to just send him a private message to find out where he is.
<ImpulseSV> hey Skizz, where you at?
<Skizzleman> im at "coords bc I don't wanna give some" why do you ask?
<ImpulseSV> im coming over there because i wanna see you
<Skizzleman> alright!
Impulse sees how far Skizz is from everyone. He wonders why Skizz is there but starts to fly over there.
It's around dusk when Impulse finally makes it to Skizz. He lands gracefully behind Skizz.
"Hey Dippledop!!!!"
"Hey Skizz, what you doing out here?"
"Hmmmm, just wanted to find a new area to draw you know?"
"Huh, you gonna draw this landscape?"
"YEA!! I'm so gonna draw this. I just don't know at what time I should."
"Well why not at nig-"
Impulse was cut off by Skizz saying "NO." It shook him because he didn't understand why. When he looks back at Skizz, he is looking down at the ground, sadly. Impulse decides to sit down next to him.
"Can I ask why you won't draw this at night?"
"...stars....."
"Huh, can you say that a bit louder?"
"..Stars...I can't see them....what do they look like?"
Stars. STARS. The thing Impulse couldn't understand in Skizz's art. He couldn't see them. He couldn't see them.....
"Stars are like dots, very faint with a light glow. They glow white, Skizz. Almost like how your wings seem to glow at night."
Skizz looks up at Impulse. He doesn't say anything but writes that down in his art book.
"Stars are pretty, there are many stars in the night sky. They all glow together to make constellations. One being called Gemini, like Gem's name. But if any constellation I would say is the best is Lyra. It's not a big one but it reminds me of you."
Skizz seems intressed in what Impulse is saying. He seems to some what understand. Impulse smiles at that.
"Stars are amazing. The all remind me of you. Pretty and perfect. They can fall as well you know? The falling ones are the best also. Skizz you are probably the best star I know. Even tho you aren't a star, your one to me. A star artist as well."
Skizz blushes at that.
"So, Skizz, will you draw this area at night now? In a sky full of stars?"
"Yes, I think I will....I also know what to call it."
"You're naming the pictures now?"
"Yea! I mean I always was but..."
"Well what will you call it Skizz?"
"... either the Cliff of Stars or the Cliff of Lyra"
"I'll show you what Lyra looks like, especially because this is probably the best area to see it."
"The Cliff of Lyra it is then"
------------------------------------------
Some Skizzpulse and my headcannon of Skizz not seeing stars.
-May
They go 'star' gazing numerous nights after, and Impulse lies there on a comfortable pile of pillows beside Skizz, describing all he can see. He's had to come up with ways to describe tricky things, like the ways stars twinkle. The different colours they can be, though only for a moment...
And Skizz will sit and draw it. Impulse has tried to draw an example but, well... He doesn't quite have Skizz's skill for art.

Let's be real, what weight does being called a salter by most Marinette stans even hold anymore? I'm not trying to be a bitch, I'm serious. What does that even mean anymore?
Marinette stans are more often than not very transparent with their priority being defending their made up version of Marinette. So their arguments barely ever hold up when put to the test because they don't care for what actually happens in Canon.
So why should I be offended by being called a salter and awful person by people who switch the moral approach of their argument on a dime flip every time a new episode drops? One day prior they chew you out for saying that Marinette will act jealous and sabotaging again because she never learned shit, and next day with the new information they turn around bending over backwards to justify why Marinette still acting that way is actually totally realistic and no problem at all.
Excuse me? How am I supposed to take you serious after that?
Or the way Marinette stans before Kwamis Choice swore and yelled from their self claimed moral high horse that Ladynoir will totally get fixed in season 5 and that Cat Noir was only sidelined so much because now season 5 will have Marinette dedicated to making it up to him and returning the partnership to one of equals again as Ladynoir becomes canon as pay off. Only for that to NOT have happened at all, so suddenly Marinette stans pulled a 180° and suddenly go on bout how there was nothing to fix anyway, and that accountability shouldn't always require immediate communication and effort to fix the unfair treatment. It's fine if that only happens in season 8 or 9, that's "realistic" and its what makes Adrien's support so "great". Because he understands that redeeming oneself shouldn't need to include... accountability... though of course only when it MARINETTE. Everyone else and Adrien in particular taking all accountability is just him being mature and fair to her uniquely stressful and soul crushing circumstances that make it unbearable for her to do the same in return.
She cries about being awful once or twice so no need for her to apologise or acknowledge or fix what she did wrong if she isn't comfortable with it yet. Don't you see how awful and cruel you are for saying that redeeming yourself needs of you to redeem yourself now? Dont you see that Adrien understands that Ladybug can't give anything right now and that his love language is selflessly serving her and wants nothing in return because that's the right thing to do in his position? She still loves and respects him so much, he just understands that she shouldn't need to show it if she needs to heal first through Adrien taking care of her.
Do you even understand the beautiful DEPTHS of redemption? And how long it takes sometimes to do so for a broken complex individual like Marinette? Seriously, in my made up season 10 all of that will have played out in a way where non of that will ever have been a problem, just stfu you don't GET it like I do 😒
This is an actual paraphrased conversation I had with a person who's opinion I once respected a lot and I wished my paraphrasing made it worse but honestly, that's exactly what they said. And I'm still taken aback that they said that. But they sure weren't the only Marinette stan I found saying things like that.
What the FUCK am I supposed to take from that besides the revelation that they just do not apply any kind of moral baseline to Marinette's character? What is there for me to respect?
Marinette stans say they are against bullying until Marinette does it or benefits from it. Then they openly romanticise and defend it with the only argument being "that wasn't bullying, Marinette wouldn't do that!" as if that changed what happened on screen. All it reveals is that Marinette stans' words don't mean anything, their moral standards are entirely dependent on who is doing it and benefiting from it. Thats not a moral standard, that's a biase you don't owe up to.
Marinette stans say they are against violence and abuse of power until Marinette does it or benefits from it. Then they will defend hypocrisy with whatever random excuse they come up with in that moment that more often than not is either "that doesn't count cuz I said so" or "it's fine that Marinette benefits from sexist double standards and a clear main character biase bc it is her show". Once again showing that they don't actually draw any kind of line moral wise for Marinette's actions and the writing, their opinion of said morality entirely depends on what works best for Marinette. And then they get angry when that gets called out.
I won't lie, I do think that some people in this collective therapy group here ARE to harsh sometime, but I can definitely respect that alot of them make it clear where they simply draw the morality line and they won't budge on their core beliefs the show is shitting on.
There is a massive difference between simply salting Marinette and angrily speaking up against something you think is genuinely morally wrong or harmful in a kid's show like this.
Alot of people I see around here say that they wished they could go back to liking the show, Marinette (or whatever character) the way they were once used to but simply can't because the show keeps on making whatever problems they had worse.
I don't necessarily always share the points of no return but I can fuck with the reasoning because it's a consistent angle they always stand by that goes beyond the complaint that their fav is simply not getting the special treatment or has hurt feelings. I can trust most Adrien stans I see who dislike or salt on Marinette to form a proper argument and a whole pov that stays consistent when you bring up other parts of the show.
I can't say that I've had the same experience with Marinette stans and for me it's obvious why. Marinette stans were never forced by the show to take a step back and lay down their core principles they won't budge on because Marinette always gets put first and that's what they care about the most.
They can say however they like that they don't support bullying, ableism and abuse, they are absolutely doing so with full chest voice for their Marinette biase, they are just not willing to reflect on that bc that would reveal to them that their made up Marinette isn't real.
They have no coherent moral baseline in their arguments, they're proudly hypocritical, and then get angry when you call them out for going back and forth on their moral "standards" in a discussion about moral principles.
What is there to respect anymore? Being called a salter by them has long started feeling like a compliment because for me it became synonymous with "isn't changing their option on a fucking whim the second a new episode dropped". And if that makes me a salter, then so be it. I'm not throwing my moral principles out of the window for a cuddled protagonist who's became the poster girl for harmful white feminism on kids tv.
---
The irony, when I went to my inbox to read this message I saw that a Marinette stan had also sent me an ableist insult. Some Marinette stans have no convictions or moral standards even for their own behavior, and the extreme individuals in the Marinette fandom never fail to prove the criticisms of them correct in a single harassing message. Like, of course they’re gonna excuse Marinette bullying people, they themselves would most likely do the same for petty reasons. I can be petty too, but my pettiness takes the form of me feeling immense moral superiority whenever I delete one of these little hate messages. Like, I might be a jerk about a fictional character, but at least I’m not a pathetic anonymous troll in someone’s inbox.
Marinette stans lie when they say they don't support bullying, because they excuse it when Marinette does it as well as when they themselves do it. Like, I’m not saying they’re all like this, I get these messages so rarely that there’s no way the entire Marinette fandom is full of assholes. Still, this isn’t the first time I got an anonymous message from some random hater right after I posted something spicy about Marinette and it isn’t the first time such a message included at least one example of ableism. It's just a fact that a lot of Marinette stans are hateful liars who spout ableism as soon as they can do it anonymously, so, like, why should we take anything they have to say seriously anyway? Every time a Marinette stan says: “I don't support bullying or harassment” there’s a high chance they actually mean: “until someone says something spicy about the flawless queen Marinette, then I’ll use bullying and harassment without hesitation”. We really shouldn’t care one bit what these people have to say, because they’ll say whatever suits their agenda of the day.
When I say I don’t support bullying or harassment, I mean it and I live by it. I don’t do it, because I don’t think anything can be solved by sending people hate mail, nor would I get any satisfaction from it. I don’t even want to encourage anyone else to do so. That’s part of the reason I invite people to send their gripes to me; this blog is already a Miraculous-negative space, so here people can put their grievances into words without anyone who’s just minding their business getting harassing messages, even when people send me stuff clearly inspired by a specific person or group. Like, Marinette stans can make a fuss about how we’re terrible people for discussing our gripes amongst ourselves, but we aren’t the ones harassing other people here.
Although, since I’m being honest here, I have to say I do agree on the harshness. I don't always agree with everything the anons who message me say 100%, but I try to focus on the parts I do agree with or have something to add to. I’ll even admit I sometimes look over a response draft and wonder if I’m being too harsh, but often I’m just not motivated to watch my tone. I know from past experiences that Marinette stans don’t care how you’re wording your criticisms, just the act of criticising Marinette makes you the bad guy.

Hard agree! People don't like hearing about it because it's taboo and "icky" or they're afraid that awknowleging it reads as condoning it. But the thing is it's there, mostly subtextually, though not always, see: "If it was legal to marry my sister I'd have done it already" lol.
People have called me gross as well but it's very much woven into the story. The nuance that seems to get lost is framing. Like when I say Wynonna has a thing for her sister I'm not saying that's a healthy thing or something that should be normalized/glorified and neither is the show. I'm saying she's kinda messed up and it makes sense that she's messed up in that way. The reactivity around it is to the point where I've hardly anylized it on my main blog, which to be abundantly clear to anyone who may be reading, I would never in real life encourage someone to engage in a sexual or romantic relationship with their sibling, even in adults the emotional power dynamics still have a high risk of putting strain on consent. Please do not conflate my willingness to explore taboos within the safety of fiction with condoning any violation of consent or even with encouraging high risk relationships in the real world.
On top of the repressed bisexuality Wynonna has pretty severe trauma and doesn't form secure attachments, she's very avoidant in most of her relationships, but with those she let's closest to her she will often become anxiously attached. Waverly was the one really stable connection through a lot of Wynonna's life. We know her mom wasn't affectionate but was critical, her dad was severely abusive, and after she shot Ward by accident she was a social pariah in the town, plus we see in episode one that Gus openly saw her as so mentally ill she should be kept away from Waverly. Meanwhile Waverly not only loved her through it all but knew about the revenants and believed her when no one else in the world did. I think it's feels like a kinda real thing to happen for someone put through all that to attach unusually to their sibling. And I'm sure it didn't help to go years without seeing her and then be confronted with her being fully grown. See their first encounter in the series: "Hey sis. You grew out your... Hair." *wynonna gestures vaguely near her chest*
And maybe part of it is that people are afraid of their hero having this flaw. But Wynonna's flaws are why we love her. Even when we don't like particular flaws, like when she had her big fight with Waverly, they make her feel real. People don't want to look at Wynonna having an attraction to her sister because it so extremely taboo, it's a "she's not that kind of person" sentiment. Which is in a way both right and wrong. Because yeah it seems apparent to those not so adverse to pondering taboos on an intellectual level that Wynonna is attracted to her sister to some degree, but it's also true that she really isn't "that kind of person." Because there's a difference between feeling attraction and violating consent. So yes our beloved and realistically flawed hero has an attraction to her sister, but she obviously also would never violate Waverly which is what people associate with a word like incest. Instead she just tucks it away as she does with all the feelings she doesn't know what to do with and we get little glimpses. Wynonna's worst crime in that department is having a poor verbal filter and being kinda codependent, ultimately Wynonna's little crush on Waverly is harmless. Something she doesn't act on and probably feels immense shame about. Yes because of her discomfort with her orientation but mostly because there is nothing Wyononna regrets more than times she's hurt Waverly and there's nothing she fears more than hurting her again, so much so that she left for four years with little to no contact. It would be unthinkable to Wynonna to ever put hands on her sister in a way Waverly didn't want. Which even when you remove the element of attraction that dynamic of Wynonna wanting so much to protect Waverly and thinking so low of herself that she thinks Waverly needs to be protected from her is part of what makes their family dynamic so compelling, and for those with strained family dynamics in their upbringing it's extremely resonant. I ramble but all that to say that Wynonna having these socially unacceptable feelings may be considered a flaw but at the same time it in no way takes away from her role as a hero and a protector to Waverly.
The thing is in my fiction I do enjoy this kind of thing, I do enjoy shipping sisters, what can I say I like some twisted drama, I like that in a pair that aren't sisters too (not that I'd ever get the same hate for shipping characters like Villanelle and Eve, or for loving the rift arc in Xena. Though considering Wynonna has never tried to kill Waverly of her own accord it's arguable that Wynonna/Waverly is the tamer ship in question). And I know that kind of thing isn't for everyone, and can even be triggering for obvious reasons, but when it comes to Wynonna Earp I do get annoyed. Because in this case it is part of the show. I don't have any expectation for other fans to enjoy it like I do, I don't even expect everyone to feel a need to think about that aspect of the story, it's uncomfortable! But the fact that it's one of those flaws that give Wynonna depth make it something people should be allowed to analyze.
Yes referring to it as a choice was me saying it was intentional. I almost feel crazy analyzing it sometimes because I'm surrounded by people either just not seeing it or telling me I'm gross for interpretating things that way. But then I look at a scene like this and think how Melanie absolutely leaned in and closed her eyes and how that, like basically everything that ends up in a final project is a choice that came from somewhere. If it didn't come from a writer it came from a director, if not a director from the show runner or Melanie, and even if only one of the takes was played that way it still got chosen in post and approved by the director and producers.
I would love to read what you wrote about it!
Tumblr media
Choices were made with this kiss. It really could've have just been a twisted thing a demon did to Wynonna, they could've had her recoil, or be completely frozen, but no, Wynonna looks down at Waverly's lips, closes her eyes and leans in!
There's such a moment of relaxing into it before the panic of 'omg I'm kissing my sister' sets in, plus whatever discomfort being possessed by a demon brings

Honestly Raeda will def have their wedding at the end, trust. I mean even if its shown in those end credit pictures, like cmon guys. They'll totally get married and be happy for the rest of their lives and nothing will ever stop them. No one will die hahahaha-
I'm less worried about Raeda possible dying and more worried about if they'll get together in a satisfactory way.
Ideally it'll be like Varick and Jhu Li's wedding in Legend of Korra. Ending the show with a wedding to basically symbolize the characters celebrating their victory. In their case, they were NOT even dating before Varrick proposed to Jhu Li, he had only BARELY caught feelings for her. But for Raeda maybe after the final battle they kiss, get back together. And then it can skip to a few months to their wedding.
Worst case scenario they get a Korrasami ending where they just walk off holding hands or something and then get confirmed on Twitter, like we're still in 2014 before Gay marriage was legalized in the US.
After everything they've been through. I want Raeda to kiss ONSCREEN and confirmed to get back together IN THE SHOW.

I keep seeing fanarts of ppl's OC's being on the ship, so do you think that if there was 6st crewmember (specifically, another woman) Anya would've been more safe? Like, someone to actually call Jimmy's begaviour out, someone Anya might wanna trust? Is there a possibility something might have changed (even if a little) or it would not have mattered at all?
-💀
I feel like the game would make it part of the commentary on where she would believe and help Anya but still be sort of dismissive? Like the whole “don’t waste time crying and being scared keep going and move on, don’t let him win”. It’s supposed to be positive and reinforcing but sometimes it does more damage in those times of mourning and grief, it feels patronizing, like you don’t understand what you’re going through but they do. Even if they did call out his behavior it’s still on Curly to act and while another voice would help, it’s still 4 against 2 on guys that don’t get it until they have to vs women who always have to.
I don’t mind mouthwashing OCs but I do get a bit bored as they tend to be borderline saviors or like Jimmy aligned. They are either more complicit than Curly or just Jimmy haters for no reason, outside of what the creators know about what he did to Anya. I am never irked by OCs but in a story like mouthwashing you really need to think about what your character adds to the commentary, especially if they are there during the crash. It’s nice to have like characters on Anya’s side more whole heartedly and interesting to see characters who placate Jimmy but sometimes it’s one note.
I can’t and don’t want to police peoples OCs it’s never my intention when I comment on trends I notice, but I do feel like the way people make their OCs interact with these two characters and especially Curly, really show a grave misunderstanding of the narrative and these characters as people vs roles in the story. Still, I know people just make up characters for fun and that’s fine. Great even, but I guys I’m focusing more on OCs that are supposed to have those serious dynamics. My favs tend to be pretty-Tulpar or post-Tulpar au OCs.
The inevitably of the crash is on Jimmy. He did that not because he wasn’t stopped but because all his means to kill Anya were taken. The gun, the axe. Even if Curly did strip him of his co-pilot privileges and try to keep him contained there’s only so many people. An extra body helps but they have jobs they have to do, he’s the only one steering the whole ship and Jimmy would likely have an out: food, bathroom, etc. He’s not new and if he couldn’t crash the ship directly, who’s to say he wouldn’t sabotage something else? A clunker like the Tulpar wouldn’t take much. An extra person helps but it’s just another thing that prolongs what a person like Jimmy is willing to do to shirk responsibility.
It’s more than just needing someone to stand up to him and think that’s what is missing when it comes to inserting a character into the mouthwashing setting.
#like again most people treat Jimmy like a misanthrope and he’s not and the way he’s just evil/rude to everyone all the time just isn’t real#like he’s snarky and rude but it can’t be 100% of the time like hes not going out his way to instigate#he’s the type to say shit and hope it stirs the pot like Daisuke likes him at first#thinks he’s a bit of a jerk but he likes him like unless you specifically make a character he’s dislike he’s not just gonna be#readily antagonistic to strangers or at the get go#not to mention it’s not just about Anya needing a friend but someone with the power to do something#a point in why she confides in Curly is he’s the captain she’s not just gonna tell the only other woman just because it’s still personal#not every girl tells their friend or another woman especially if they are new and they don’t know how they react not all girls are#girls girls some can be just as toxic as the men they are being confided in about#the nuance of the situation is not solved by having more people who actively hate jimmmy if anything it would make him escalate further as#clearly has issues with how people perceive him and being liked like another woman who hates him that’s gonna do something crazy in his mind#I think it’s interesting when OCs explore another side of the pre established dynamics as Jimmy uses each remaining crew member to fill a#something Curly provided for him and represent his dynamic with Anya and being an abuser I just feel like a lot is being missed out on#and it’s mainly cause people don’t want to make OCs that aren’t great people like it’s okay to have a grey mediocre OCs in situations like#this its realistic and helps you write more grounded characters like idk i like the ocs but eh im not like a super fan#I really should make an analysis on Jimmy cause people hate discussing him and his character is being really misunderstood#like not saying she’s innocent or an excuse but just not getting how he is supposed to work like he’s no dick fucking dasteredly#he’s a shitty guy who gets shittier like he ain’t start out an avengers level threat#mouthwashing#💀 anon#mouthwashing game#ask#anya mouthwashing#curly mouthwashing#jimmy mouthwashing#mouthwashing oc#now I gotta make an oc just to prove myself but I can’t draw#so maybe not cuz what’s the point if I can’t explain the fly drip

Hello I have once again upset myself thinking about Logan an the effect Aurora had on him and his relationships.
Walter is a father figure to him and HOBW and their relationship is in TATTERS, and as far as canon shows, it's never mended.
Does Logan believe the man who raised his sibling and took care of him after Sparrows death died hating him? Does he believe Walter only saws the bad in him? Does it have any impact on his decision to go into his self-imposed exile? Does he regret not telling Walter about what happened to him in Aurora soonee??
Did he and Walter ever have a chance to reconcile, to speak of what happened to them on their respective trips to Aurora? Did he ever express regret for Logan feeling as if he couldn't speak of what happened to him?
Did Walter ever embrace Logan as one of his own again, or did they stay away because of their history?

Fun little thought I thought I’d share 😋
Imagine, it’s the big showdown between Red Hood and Batman, Joker’s unconscious form slumped nearby, completely bound.
Red hood, Jason, demands that Batman kill him. That after everything he’s done, all the people he’s killed, he pleads with his dad to kill the Batman (although he’d never admit that he still loves the man as a father, not yet).
There’s some dramatic back and forth where Batman refuses and Red Hood insists pleads that Batman Bruce kill the joker, until Bruce rips off the cowl and reveals that he did!
He did kill the Joker! He wore his favorite suit and grabbed two $1000 watches and used them as brass knuckles and beat the fucker to death! He burned his body and buried the ashes outside of the goddamn Fortress of Solitude so no one would find them! He folded up the bloodied suit and boxed them with the broken watches and put them a hidden compartment in the base of Jason’s memorial in the cave, where no one would ever touch or find them! He waited until Superman was off world so he wouldn’t stop him again and told no one of what he did!
And how that ends is up to y’all. I just think that it’s interesting how there are canonically 3 Jokers (possibly more if dc changes their mind) and wouldn’t it be fun if Bruce knowingly murdered one of them only for another to pop up and make him suicidal to the point where a little Timothy Drake needs to blackmail his way into being Robin so he doesn’t kill himself?

Dean is such a paradox for me because on the one hand, I have been actively triggered by him in the show, there are moments where, intentionally or not, the writers managed to create a portrayal of manipulation and abuse and control issues that it sets off actual alarms for me. And on the other hand, I would not have him any other way. There is something — not comforting, that’s too soft a word — about knowing where Dean’s actions stem from, having seen and learned all that we do about his childhood neglect and parentification and the trauma he goes through repeatedly in the show, and that he doesn’t come out clean. He comes out a goddamn mess who ends up hurting the people around him in reaction to his own pain!
There’s a reality there that’s. Almost nice, actually. Distressing to watch, but it is a fucking mess, it’s a good mess! He’s got zero healthy coping skills and a healthy relationship with say, his brother, is terrifying because it leaves him open to abandonment!
I’m not sure I’m wording this correctly. There is a way to be a good abuse victim. Take the pain, martyr yourself on it, and then, even if you have no support or idea how to, then you have to become a Good Person who never hurts anyone the way you have been learning to your entire life. Simply toss everything that shaped you out the door and emerge a saint with a tragic backstory. And Dean is not that. And that’s so fucking good. Everything that he has gone through continues to effect the way he treats the people around him, and he can’t fight the behaviors he might recognize as harmful because he also sees them as protecting him (or protecting Sam by keeping Sam with him.)
And sometimes, idk. It feels good to see a guy who didn’t heal the “right way.” Who mostly didn’t heal at all, just keeps the wound open because it’s easier that way.
#there’s a whole other bit to this about how like. it’s hard for fandom to hold the idea that someone can be both a victim and abusive#at the same time. that the ways someone has been hurt don’t always shape them into kindness and wide-eyed sympathy. occasionally it just#makes them hard to live with. and I think most obviously is the thing that a lot of what Dean does is an expression of love. of protection.#he’s very much his father’s son in that way. that’s why Sam. the guy he’s been Told to protect his whole life. is also the person he ends up#hurting the most. it’s tragedy. it’s realistic. it’s a good fucking mess.#and that’s why I don’t get interpretations of dean that are determined to shave off the ugly parts of his character. to me those are the#parts that make him a character worth revisiting. he’s so full of love. and he uses it to hurt people. he means to sometimes. a lot of the#time he doesn’t but hurts them anyway. he has been shaped by violence his whole life. and it’s just. I get why someone might take this#part of him away. to make him easier to love. because I get that he’s stressful to watch also like I get that. but he is.#he is compelling. in his anger and his controlling behavior and his strangling love. he is compelling in all the ways he has become this.#Dean’s degradation into these behaviors can be both a failure of a show that ran to long but also the believable trajectory of a man who#can’t heal. and I love him for that. I love him for emerging from pain as a angry sharp thing. I love that it brings the glimpses of him#being gentler and recognizing his actions as bad into stark relief. I love that this recognition often only lasts until he is hurt again and#then he backpedals into the safety of behaviors he knows will allow him to control a situation through force or manipulation.#it’s good fucking mess. you know? dean winchester everybody.#maybe I should have put all that in the main post. oh well. too late now.#spn#dean winchester#tw abuse
