WoL QotD: What made you choose your WoL's name? Does it have any important meaning or did it just sound nice?
Follow up: Is it lore accurate? If it isn't, why not?

Someone should make an analysis of Amphibia's geography for fanfic writing purposes and by someone I mean Oh god please let there be something out there so I won't be tempted to procastinate on studying for my finals working on a detailed world map for a fantasy Disney show about talking frogs and polyamorous lesbian divorce when the writers themselves probably didn't think much about it beyond what would be funny in each individual episode
#so there's a train running through frog valley right?? but there are only like 5 settlements in frog valley#those being wartwood bog bottom lily paddington swamp shiro and the southern toad tower#but we never see any train stations going through neither wartwood nor toad tower#which means the train must connect at least two of the other settlements. why would wartwood be excluded? is the railroad still#under construction? why create such a huge piece of infraestructure for such a scarcely populated region connecting only three towns?#because we know for a fact that train doesn't connect frog valley to Newtopia or the rest of the continent#otherwise Anne and the Plantars would have traveled via train which would have been safer and faster#plus if the only way in and out of the valley is inhabilitated during several months a year it would explain the absence of said connection#since it would be really hard to maintain#maybe there ARE other ways out of frog valley but that road would mean going AROUND the mountains? rather than through them?#which could be more dangerous AND take longer than waiting for the ice to melt away in the most commonly used passage#the train could take advantage of that by going through those other passes#but it wouldn't explain why Anne had to wait for like 3 months to leave#the only explanation I can come up with is that the railroad system is incomplete#either because it's still under construction or because important parts of it have fallen out of use due to lack of maintenance#resulting in short and tiny tracks you can't take to go fucking anywhere#you know. like in my country!#my posts#amphibia

I am so serious that, as a punk band, the Linda Lindas' music is so full of joy, even when it's cathartic (both for them and probably their listeners, too), that I can't wrap my head around anyone not wanting to listen to them/their music. Like, what, just because it's punk music, it can't sound as full of joy as it does? You know pop punk doesn't even inherently sound joyful, either, and yet it's still called [pop] punk? Not that "pop" = fun/joy, but historically and media-wise, that hasn't ever been too far off the mark.
I don't know, I just feel like if there's anyone out there (especially fans of punk music) unwilling to let the Linda Lindas be a punk band with an unabashedly vivacious sound, then they should reconsider who they consider a punk band. Why not the Linda Lindas? Could the answer be because of something the band already wrote a song about? Or–

Found a disturbing and deeply patriarchal Swedish folk ballad, Maria Magdalena (Types of the Swedish Ballad B 16, if you want to look it up, nr. 43 in Sveriges Medeltida Ballader), which originates as a ballad from Catholic Sweden that illustrates Purgatory (I think) - in its origin, it's explicitly about Mary Magdalen, who encounters Jesus, who knows her sin (that she has birthed three children, two with a father - in other words, a married man - and one with his brother), and he condemns her to seven years wandering the forest, sleeping on hard mountains, drinking only the dew and eating only the bitter shoots of birch trees, and with only bears and lions for company. On the eighth year, she walks to church (!) and encounters her Saviour ('sin frälseman') again, who asks her how she found her drink, food, bedding and company, respectively, where she responds positively to all of them, and Christ grants her a spot in Heaven on account of her noble bearing of her righteous punishment; end of ballad.
Of course, there is no indication that the men who slept with her and shared her sin are ever punished.
A later version from the early 19th century, in what seems like a competition over the years in who can most emphasise the depths of her (and her alone, obviously) sin, is way more grim. In this version, she (it is no longer clear that it is Mary Magdalene, just a woman called Magdalena) makes it clear that she has had two children, one with her own brother and one with her father, which she has drowned in blackest river and reddest sea, for which reason he completely refuses her touch (she is apparently so sullied by her being the victim of the worst kind of abuse that the Redeemer won't touch her). She is condemned once again to wandering the forest for seven years with only dew to drink and birch to eat and moss to sleep on, which she endures, after which she once again meets Christ, who asks her how she found her punishment. She responds that the dew was as though she was drinking angels wine, the moss was as bedding of clearest silk, and you get the idea. Jesus grands her leave to ascend into heaven 'because of her strong faith', which is clearly a nonsensical tacking on of Lutheran doctrine onto what is clearly a Catholic song - it's not her faith, but her suffering, which actually redeems her.
I might sing it at some point, I really like the tune.

Ok as much as I would like to post something funny or profound about things that don’t matter, I have nothing. So you know what? I’m going to throw a question out into the dark and see if the demons respond. I need help coming up with embroidery ideas and I really want to get back into it.

Lily of the Valley
Not finalized design I think . But since I made Slater incarnations before that had inspirations from The Vessel and The Heart, this is kinda ?? Similar to that,, more inspiration from Vessel specifically (angel motif and how his coat looks), but tried to keep it looking like canon Slater, just with less gray.
Also inspired by the design of the yumemiushi angel, except without the halo. (Unless the halo is like.. a gold ring on his finger or something?)

Trying to get info on gardening with native plants has so many of the same issues as trying to id bugs, but only finding pest control websites - so much material online about "getting rid of this stubborn weed" but zero info on what actually makes it a weed?? I'm out here googling "what's so bad about common yellow woodsorrel" and getting nothing. Girl if it's native and edible and beneficial to pollinators and self seeding and competes out nonnative weeds and it's PRETTY....... literally WHY are you ripping it out of your garden?

I finally watched Lost Angel: The Genius of Judee Sill, and wooooooow, I have a much deeper appreciation for her music now than I did before. I don't even think I ever listened to her second album, Heart Food, but I want to hear it now, for sure, as well as give her debut album a re-listen, too.
