I come wielding the part where they actually play spin the "bottle" (2021). Transcript under the cut!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Harrison watched Lonan as he rose, slowly, dusting himself as he went, bringing his set of cutlery with him. There was very little point to this—the holding cells, all located in a damp, sunless basement, were akin to dust bowls. There was no way to avoid it. Still, he flicked lint off his good shirt, adjusted his collar. Then he walked toward Harrison and kneeled in front of him.
It was more of a treat than a threat to have Lonan so close. He was maddeningly put-together, smelled once again of vanilla and sandalwood. He was the type of person who likely carried a comb around with them—his hair was split perfectly down the middle, a thin, pale thread indicating his parting. When he looked at Harrison, his eyes like burning forget-me-nots, Harrison looked at the portrait he’d half-finished. This is why he didn’t understand what the sound was, a plasticky whirring, until he glanced back in Lonan’s direction.
A plastic knife twirled along the concrete, slowing to a stop at Harrison. He should not have been surprised that this is what that godforsaken handsome devil had done. It was both sweet, and irritating.
When Lonan reached for Harrison’s injured hand that at this point, had healed almost fully, Harrison didn’t resist. A line of butterflies fluttered through his chest. Lonan’s touch was cold. Disastrously careful. He turned it so his palm was face up and they both saw its wide, neat stitches. In a day or so, Harrison would be back to normal, like nothing ever happened. But still, Lonan held his hand. Then like a prince, he bowed his head and kissed it.

Spin the bottle - Seventh Virtue
The fun part about early Seventh Virtue was writing Lonan & Harrison meeting each other for the first time all over again. Here’s an early section where they prove they cannot have a single normal conversation!!!
Their meet-cute is when Harrison gets caught thieving (by Lonan) and they almost kill each other. ❤️ Soooo on brand.
Seventh Virtue, circa 2021.
Text transcript under the cut!
“So you cut me, arrest me, throw me down here, and now you want to dine with me?”
“Yes,” Lonan said. He ripped open his cutlery packet, slipped out the black fork. As he unloaded bouts of fried rice, mounds of glossed orange chicken, and a generous helping of black pepper beef, he added, “And I didn’t cut you. You did that yourself.”
Harrison snorted. Oh god, he was starving. He wasn’t sure how long he could keep up the façade before he started drooling.
“That’s because you were going to stab me in the gut,” he said.
“I wasn’t going to stab you.”
“So what were you going to do with the knife? Use it to play spin the bottle with me?”
Lonan arched a brow. “Would you like to play spin the bottle with me?”
“If you’re the one I’d kiss, then sure.”

This Can't Be.
Pairing: Tom Holland x F!Reader
Genre: Angst, Fluff (enemies to friends to lovers)
Warnings: mentions of an eating disorder, curse words lol
Requested: By anonymous
How about a Tom Holland x Reader where the reader is also famous and they fight a lot, and then a few days later she stops eating, and ends up exhausted and passes out and he goes to her house crying and apologizing, well, do it cry lol.
Summary: Y/N and Tom are in a new movie together but they don't really get along. Tom calls her a fatty, so she tries to lose weight by starving herself. After she ends up in the hospital, they make amends.
Author's Note: Hi y'all! A request after a such a long time! Also, I would like to apologize to anon if this isn't exactly what you were looking for. I still hope you like it.
---
Y/N POV:
"Tom from Marvel? Surely… surely you mean Tom Hiddleston?" I blurted out, my eyes going wide. "No, honey, Tom Holland. He's much closer to you by age, he's the perfect fit," my manager said, giving me a small smile. She knew how much I loathed that man.
"No, shut the fuck up, this can't be! It can't! You know I hate that overgrown manchild—"
"Please, Y/N. Try to understand. This movie can be your next big thing. It's offering a lot of money and they specifically requested for you. Come on, sharing one kiss with him can't be that bad," Ellie tried reasoning. "It can be that bad! I don't like him! It will be awkward! Why don't they choose Zen? She's awesome and they get along well!" I whined, covering my eyes with the palms of my hands.
"She has already done a lot of movies with him. From what I've heard, she rejected this movie and suggested your name. Come on, do it," Ellie urged tiredly. I groaned and flopped down on the bed. "Fine, I'll do it. If I end up murdering that man, try to save me," I muttered. Ellie laughed and left my room.
I curled up on the bed, my stomach turning. Just his name made bile rise up my throat and my blood boil. "Fucking Holland," I hissed under my breath. It all began on the sets of one of the movies we did together as teenagers, called Exile. The thing is, he— wait a minute.
My brows furrowed. What did he even do to me to make me hate him so much? "Come to think of it…" I mumbled, desperately trying to remember why I disliked him. "Eh, still," I huffed; even if I couldn't remember the reason, I hated him.
I got off the bed and went to the bathroom for I had an interview coming up soon.
---
Tom POV:
"Ew, Y/N? Are you fucking kidding me, mate? I can't do this movie with her," I spat, glaring at Harrison. "Why do you even hate her? She's such a sweet person," he sighed exasperatedly. "I— she just aggravates me so much! Plus, she decided to hate me first! She is never polite to me, why should I like her?" I stammered, throwing my arms up.
"Whatever. You are doing the movie and you are doing it with her. It's just one fucking kiss, dude, you'll be fine," Harrison said, rolling his eyes. I huffed and looked away when he walked out of the room. "Fucking Y/L/N," I hissed, crossing my arms.
She irked me so much. She always called me names and teased me. Except, when she teased me, she meant every word— she bullied me. I wondered if she had matured and decided to leave our childish banter behind but knowing her, I knew it was impossible. She was an overgrown child. "As if she has grown up," I laughed cruelly.
I shook my head and ridded myself from the thoughts of her, putting on my jacket. I had plans of going to the nearby bar with Harry, Haz and Sam. I wouldn't let Y/N destroy my night with the boys.
---
Y/N POV:
"Ugh, is he even coming? See, you can never expect him on time! Probably putting on his diaper or something, that takes time," I grunted, glaring at nothing on the wall in front of me. "Stop being rude, Y/N. Please, leave this old, childish and irrelevant banter and grow up. You don't even remember why you fought with him."
"It's just…" I looked away from Ellie and she rubbed my arm, a small sigh escaping her lips. "Where is she?" I heard and looked up. Tom was looking for me. "Over here, asshole," I called out and he stared at me. For a brief second, a look of confusion and shock came over his face. Then he quickly snapped out of it.
"Still the same entitled brat, I see. I would love working with you," he said with faux affection, a sarcastic smile on his face. "Likewise. Are we done here? I don't want to waste my time with you, I have lots more important things to do. To be honest, really everything is more important than you, so…" I poked my tongue out at him and walked away.
When I was about 15 feet away from him, I wrapped my arms around myself. For the first time in forever, I actually felt guilty about being so rude to him. Maybe Ellie was right, why should I fight with him if I didn't even remember why we started? I couldn't let down my guard now, though, I was too deep into this mess.
If I tried to be more cordial, he would start taunting me even more. I would snap and insult him, thus starting our fight all over again. I'd just have to swallow my guilt and keep being rude, I guess. I shook my head and walked out of the place.
---
Tom POV:
"How are you, Ellie?" Despite having enmity with Y/N, I really liked her manager. Ellie, unlike Y/N, was cute, sweet and polite. "Hi Tom, I'm good! I'm sorry about Y/N. I tried to tell her that your banter is childish but she completely ignored me," she sighed and we hugged each other.
"Y/N is a stupid bitch, you don't need to pay attention to her. She has always been rude and bratty, at least you're not like her. You're so much better," I chuckled. Ellie and Haz shook hands, smiling at each other. "Are you sure you'll be comfortable working with each other? What if the fight escalates?" Ellie asked worriedly.
"I will try my best to be friendly with her, I won't let the fight escalate. Nothing should ruin the movie," I sighed, rubbing my forehead. "I don't know why she wants to fight with you, Tom. She herself told me she didn't remember why you fought in the first place and now…"
"Wait, she what?" My eyebrows knit together in confusion. "Yes! She doesn't remember why you started your banter and now she won't listen to me when I tell her to give up the enmity," Ellie said, her lips pulled into a thin line. "Wait, I don't… I don't remember either…" I mumbled. Haz and Ellie looked at each other.
"Why don't you two just try to be friends? Please? Both of you are amazing people, this banter is nonsensical," Haz insisted. "I'll try my best but I don't know about her dram—"
"Tom."
"Ugh, sorry!"
---
Y/N POV:
"Yo, wassup pussy! Too scared, huh? No wonder your roast game is weak AF," I laughed, walking into the room with a packet of chips in my hands. Two months had passed since we started working together. For some reason, though, he absolutely didn't try to rile me up with his smartass comments. Somehow, I felt as if he was holding back, but I don't know… I had to find out.
He looked at me and rolled his eyes. "Will you shut up, fatty? I'm trying to do something here and working without your overweight ass will be so much easier! I tried to end our fight but you surely don't want to grow up! Leave and don't come back," he snapped, glaring at me.
I froze. His comment… actually hurt. It hurt me in my heart. Fatty. Overweight. I looked at the packet of chips in my hands and walked up to the nearby bin, throwing it away. I tried to hold my tears in as I ran out of the room to my trailer. Once I was in the comfort of my own trailer, I let the tears roll down my eyes.
For 15 minutes, I sat crying. I felt ashamed of insulting him, now. He grew up. I was still the rude teenager he worked with in Exile. Of course he hated me, I hadn't been nice to him at all. This was my fault. When I finally stopped crying, I looked at myself in the mirror.
I promised myself that I would be more polite to him after this.
---
Tom POV:
"Yo, where is Y/N? Our scene starts in five minutes! Ellie?" I questioned, looking at her. "The last time I checked she was in her trailer, should I go check on her?" she offered. I shook my head. "Let me go." I walked out of the room and went to her trailer. "Y/N! Don't you know our scene starts in five minutes? Get your ass up!"
When I got no snide remark in return, my brows furrowed. What was she doing in there? "Y/N?" I called out, knocking on the door. The door, I found out, was open. Against my own wish, I opened the door. A loud gasp escaped my lips. "Y/N!" I shouted, swiftly climbing into the trailer.
She had fallen on the floor, unconscious, her head resting against the bed. My eyes widened in horror when I observed her pale skin and skinny body. Her bones were poking out; it looked as though she was wearing her skin on her skeleton like spandex. "Y/N!" I whispered, picking her up. My heart broke when I noticed how lightweight she was.
"Tom? We heard you shou— what happened?" Ellie gasped, running towards me. "She's too cold, we need to take her to the hospital," I spoke rapidly. The two of us called an ambulance and within half an hour, Y/N was being taken to the hospital. Ellie and I were with her.
"What happened? She… she looks so skinny…" I asked Ellie, my chest heaving. "Fucking hell! She wasn't eating! Every time I offered food she said she wasn't hungry or that she ate already… now I know! She was starving herself! It's been 5 months, she hasn't eaten a single thing—"
5 months. I knew what happened 5 months ago. "Will you shut up, fatty?" I whispered, a sharp pain coursing through my chest. She wasn't eating because I called her fat. I shouldn't have, not when she wasn't fat at all! This was all my fault. Why did I let this happen?
"Tom, is everything okay?" I looked at Ellie, snapping out of my thoughts. "Uh, yeah— yeah I'm good," I muttered. Upon reaching the hospital, Y/N was immediately put up for an emergency operation.
I stayed at the hospital for 5 hours with Ellie, that's how long her operation took. The shooting was temporarily put on hold and news outlets started talking about Y/N being in the hospital. The hospital was shut down.
---
Y/N POV:
Darkness. All around me. What happened? Where was I? I tried to open my eyes but it hurt. I groaned and forced them open, trying to sit up. I moved my hands but found out they were connected to something. "Ms Y/L/N!" a surprised voice gasped. "Where am I?" I moaned.
"I'm Dr Watson, you're at the hospital," he said soothingly, scribbling something down on his notepad. "Like Sherlock?" I chuckled weakly, giving him a smile. "I've been asked that many times. Good to know you're feeling better, Y/N," he smiled, ruffling my hair.
He then proceeded to walk out of the room. A few seconds later, Ellie and Tom walked in. "What the fuck, Y/N? You thought starving yourself while shooting a movie was important? Why did you do this? You gave us all a heart attack!" Ellie scolded, glaring at me. I looked away, ashamed.
"I know someone didn't care," I muttered. "If you're thinking of me, you're wrong. I found you unconscious, Y/N, and brought you here. Of course I cared. I would also like to apologize for my rude remark, I shouldn't have called you that," he said, rubbing the back of his head.
I stared at him. He brought me here? "Oh, uh, thank you, I guess," I said softly, giving him a small smile. He smiled back. "I'm going to speak to the doctor, you stay here." Ellie left the room. Tom looked around and finally pointed to the bed. "May I?" he asked awkwardly.
"Sure," I laughed. He grinned and sat down near my abdomen. For a few minutes, there was silence between us. "So, I guess we should stop fighting, huh? I mean, none of us remember why we fought, so…" Tom said, looking out of the window. "You're right. Friends?"
"Friends." We shook hands, smiling at each other. "I'm sorry for all the rude things I've called you over the years, I really am," I apologized sincerely. "I'm sorry, too. Maybe we can forget all that and try to get to know each other?" Tom suggested. "I like that idea," I chuckled.
"Why did you starve yourself, though?" he asked quietly. "Every time I saw food, your voice echoed in my head. Fatty. I lost my appetite and didn't eat," I explained, looking at my lap. "I'm so sorry," he said, frowning at me. "It's okay, I'm fine now. We're friends now, I'll be fine." We gave each other small smiles.
Turns out, I had to stay at the hospital for a month and after that, the shooting would resume. Every single day for a month, Tom and I hung out at the hospital. Our getting-to-know-each-other sessions were going really well; we actually had a lot of interests in common! I would've known this, of course, if I wasn't too busy fighting with him for absolutely no reason.
---
Tom POV:
"Today's the kiss scene, right?"
I fixed my bow tie, running a hand through my hair. "Yeah. Thankfully we're friends now, it shouldn't be that awkward." I grinned at Harrison. He grinned back. "I'm glad. Your fight was pointless anyway."
We left my trailer and walked towards the sets. When I walked in, I paused— Y/N was looking adorably stunning in the dress she wore. Her hair was done amazingly and she was chatting with Ellie. Not many people were at the set today, the scene was going to be shot privately.
I had to admit, after hanging out with her for a month, I started forming a crush on her. Maybe I could ask her out on a date, see how that worked out… "Tom! Here!" I looked at Y/N, who waved me over. I walked to her, a wide smile on my face. "You're looking really beautiful," I complimented, smirking a bit when she blushed.
"Not too shabby yourself, sir," she winked. "If you're ready, shall we start?" the director called out. The two of us gave our signals and took our place. The setting was such: A ballroom, the two of us were dancing. We simply had to say I love you and give each other a kiss. Not too difficult, we would be done in five minutes.
"And… action!"
We said those three words to each other, smiled dreamily and leaned forward. When our lips connected, I felt real-life butterflies in my stomach. I liked Y/N and the kiss… the kiss was amazing. "Cut!" We pulled away. After gazing at each other for ten seconds, we burst out giggling. "You're a pretty good kisser, Tom."
"Not too shabby yourself, ma'am," I teased, repeating her previous words. "Wanna get coffee after changing?" she asked, a twinkle in her eye. "Do I? Meet you at the gates in thirty minutes, last one there's a loser!"
"Tom, come back, ugh!" Y/N yelled as I ran towards my trailer. "It's not my fault you're wearing a dress!" I yelled back, laughing loudly. "Shut up!"
Our date went extremely well, needless to say.

There Was So Much Crying - The Bachelor, Season 25, Week 11 & After The Final Rose Recap
Tumblr media
Image from abc.com
We made it. We finally arrived at the finale of what may have been the longest season of The Bachelor ever. Perhaps not in weeks and episodes, but definitely in years it took off my life. The episode opens with shots of Matt and the two remaining ladies, Michelle and Rachael, all looking very serious. Rachael was even staring pensively off in the distance while writing in her journal. Every season there’s a shot of one of the final girls journaling, and I refuse to believe that that many people keep a journal. I try to journal, and I am good for like two entries a month, and that’s only until I completely forget about journaling for half a year until I find the notebook in a drawer I never open.
Matt then goes and sees his mom, Patty,  and older brother, John, who looked so much like him it was actually distracting.
Tumblr media
Matt’s family first meets Michelle, and Patty starts crying almost immediately. Michelle and John then go off to speak privately, and it was clear that John prepped for this conversation. He had a line of questioning memorized, and they were personal, such as “When was your last relationship?” and “Why did it end?” I think John would get along well with Michelle’s kindergarteners.
Patty then gets a chance to talk with Michelle, and the two of them had an instant connection. Serious bonding happened. Patty starts crying (again) because she is so happy that Matt has found love. I would be remiss if I did not say that if my boyfriend’s mom were crying like this, it would be a red flag for me. Like, why are you this grateful that someone is willing to be with your son? What is wrong with him that you’re not telling me?
Tumblr media
The next day it is Rachael’s turn with the Jameses, and John lays into her just as much as he did Michelle. He hits her with questions like “How many relationships have you been in?” and “Have you ever been in love?” It did not seem like he was as satisfied with her answers as he was with Michelle’s. When Rachael talks to Matt’s mom, they discuss the importance of religion in both of theirs, and Matt’s, lives. Patty cries, and Rachael says that the show is “God’s way of bringing her and Matt together.” God, Chris Harrison, same difference.
After Rachael leaves, Matt gets a chance to debrief with his mom and brother. His mother seems to like both girls, which was probably quite unhelpful for Matt, who needed to decide between the two. She also says that she does not think Matt is ready to get engaged, which was pretty evident at this point. She then goes into quite a speech about how “love ends,” and it’s “not the end all be all.” Patty’s clearly been through a lot, and desperately needs to go to therapy. John counters by telling his brother that he supports him no matter what, but he also shouldn’t jump into a decision if he is not ready.
This whole conversation (understandably) confuses Matt, and he asks to speak with Chris Harrison. He tells Chris that he’s unsure if he’s ready to get married and fills him in on the conversation with his mom. Chris simply replies, “that’s a lot to unpack,” which is a very fitting response. He then tries to talk Matt into it in an attempt to salvage what has ultimately been a complete shit-show of a season. My personal opinion is that if you’re not sure if you’re ready to get engaged, you’re not ready to get engaged. You need to be 100% confident before you get down on one knee. (I also think you need to be 100% confident the other person will say yes, but I won’t get into that right now.)
Tumblr media
The next day, Matt takes Michelle to the top of a building and brings her dangerously close to the edge with her eyes closed. When she does open her eyes, he announces that they will be repelling down the side, and that would be the point where I would break up with him. If he really loved her, he wouldn’t ask her to risk her life. Matt was really bad at the repelling but still took it upon himself to explain how to do it to Michelle, who was having no issues. That night, Matt goes over to Michelle’s hotel room. She gives him a gift; matching “World Changing Warriors” basketball jerseys with “Mr. James” and “Mrs. James” on the backs and he then breaks up with her. She says to him, “just tell me where you’re at,” and he responds, “I don’t think I can get there with you.” Harsh, to say the least.
The following day, we see Rachael getting ready for her own date with Matt. Chris Harrison then knocks on her door, and she is delighted to see him, unfortunately not realizing what is happening. Chris Harrison does not show up with good news. Chris tells Rachael that Matt’s going through some things and doesn’t want to see her today (imagine getting stood up on The Bachelor), but conveniently omits that Michelle was sent home the previous night.
Matt meets with Neil Lane, the official diamond provider of Bachelor Nation. Neil asks Matt if Rachael is expecting a proposal, and he says, “she’s expecting honesty.” Uh, no, Matt. She is definitely expecting a proposal.
Tumblr media
Rachael gets a date card asking her to “meet me by the lake,” which is extremely ominous. Rachael does meet him and gives her pre-proposal speech, which is filled with clichés like, “I’m not gonna run when it gets tough,” and “when you’re hurting, I’m hurting.” Matt then tells her that he can’t propose to her (then why the hell did he get that ring?), but he still wants to “commit” to her. Then they all lived happily ever after. Just kidding, she got exposed on the internet, and the whole show exploded.
Tumblr media
Which brings me to the third hour of the finale, “After the Final Rose”. Because Chris Harrison decided celebrating slavery was defendable, he’s been put in time out, and Emmanuel Acho was asked to step in and host. For those who are not familiar, Acho is a former linebacker for the Philadelphia Eagles (go birds!) and current analyst on Fox. He also wrote a book titled Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man and hosts a video series on topics involving race.
Tumblr media
Emmanuel brings out Michelle first, who looked stunning. She tells Emmanuel that after she was sent home, she asked for two minutes with Matt, not to change his mind but just to get closure, but he refused, which is actually pretty shitty of him. Emmanuel then asks for her thoughts on Rachael’s scandal. Michelle, very tactfully, says that those photos hurt her and that she does believe Rachael has a good heart, but she was just ill-informed and inconsiderate.
Matt then comes out to speak with Michelle. She confronts him over how she was forced to walk away without closure, and he says he wishes he had pushed more for that conversation. This phrasing interested me because it implied that not speaking with her may not have been his choice alone. As Oprah would say, was he silent, or was he silenced? Emmanuel asks Michelle if she still loves him. She says that she still cares for him, and he will always hold a piece of her heart. She also roasts him by saying he needs to come up with more phrases than “thank you for sharing that with me.”
Tumblr media
It is then Matt’s turn to speak alone, and oh boy, did he look tired. It was so painfully clear that he just wanted to be done with this whole thing. He and Emmanuel discuss how he was under extra scrutiny because he was the first Black bachelor and how he is the only representation of a Black man in some of the viewers’ homes. Matt speaks about how other leads would only be asked to find love, but he also had to represent all Black men. Emmanuel asks him how much of the pressure may have been internalized, and Matt responds that the pressure comes from the fact that Black people are conditioned to make people comfortable with their Blackness.
Their conversation then shifts to his relationship with Rachael, and Emmanuel asks what made Matt first fall for her. He says her authenticity, which is a bit ironic in hindsight. Matt then breaks down their trajectory after leaving Pennsylvania. At first, they were in a honeymoon phase. When the rumors started bubbling about Rachael’s past, Matt dismissed them as rumors and just tried to be there for her. He said that “you hear things that are heartbreaking and pray that they’re not true.” When he discovered they were true, he was taken back to growing up in the south and the people and places that made him feel unwelcome. Eventually, he broke up with her. He said it was a tough conversation, but “if you don’t understand that that’s problematic in 2018, then there’s a lot of me you won’t understand.”
Tumblr media
Emmanuel then spoke to Rachael one-on-one. He shows her the controversial photo, and she says she sees “someone who was living in ignorance without thinking who it would be hurting.” Her use of the phrase “someone who” is important to note because she is separating herself from the actions and thus not actually taking responsibility for them. She also says that she never asked herself about where the tradition comes from because if she had, she would’ve immediately realized it was problematic. Remember she said this, it’ll come up later. Emmanuel asks her who is to blame for her ignorance, and she says there is no excuse. This is the point where it became painfully clear that everything she was saying had been scripted and rehearsed a thousand times. Acho also asked her what steps she was taking to educate herself, which she did not actually answer. She said it wasn’t about reading books and watching documentaries (you know, the tools of education) and even said, “we need to take action.” I’m not sure who the “we” she was referring to is exactly because she was the only one on that stage who was photographed playing Slave-Owner.
Matt joins Emmanuel and Rachael, and calling the situation awkward would be an understatement. Matt clearly didn’t want to have to talk to her anymore, and it was evident that a lot more went on during their break up than either of them were willing to say. Emmanuel asks Matt if there is anything else he has to say to Rachael, and he was silent for a long time. They went to a commercial break, and when they came back, he was still silent for a good 10 seconds. I would’ve taken that as a no, but they just kept on waiting. Eventually, Matt says that the most disappointing thing was having to explain to Rachael why the party was problematic. Remember back when Rachael said, “if I had just asked myself where the tradition came from, I would’ve immediately understood it was problematic”? Well, apparently, that was bullshit because in the year 2021, she didn’t, and she clearly fought with Matt about it and defended herself. In addition, Matt tells her that she doesn’t fully understand his Blackness, and she wouldn’t understand that for their kids. He also points out to Emmanuel that he didn’t sign up for this conversation, which I found such a perfect encapsulation of why this entire situation has been so unfair to Matt. Emmanuel asks Matt if the door is still open for a relationship with Rachael, and Matt says that feelings don’t just go away, but she needs to do the work on her own. I.e., Matt doesn’t want to be her babysitter and shouldn’t have to be held responsible for her actions or inactions.
Tumblr media
After a palette cleansing commercial break, we return to a different graphic on the screen, that of The Bachelorette. Michelle and Katie then come out and announce that they will both be the Bachelorette, each with their own season, and Katie going first. Katie’s season will premiere in May, giving us just enough time to recover from this shit show before diving headfirst into the next one.

Game On
Summary: You and Tom have known each other and bumped into each other here and there at the parties his frat hosts. It’s the first week back and you’ve found yourself at his frat’s party with your friends and you don’t know what to expect once you and Tom separate from your friends.
Pairing: Uni/Frat! Tom x Reader
Warning: drinking, mild swearing, fluff
Word Count: ~4k
Author’s Note: Hi everyone! It’s my first Tom fic I’ve written and wanted to publish. I’m sorry if the summary is a little crappy, I’m trying to get better at it, haha. Tom Holland has recently wrecked my life and I needed someplace to let out all of the emotions I feel for him. Please let me know what you think! It’s a goal of mine to write more so if things go well, then hopefully I can continue sharing more of my work on here. xoxo, Astrid.
*Italics = your thoughts
A sigh escaped your lips as the bass of the music blasted throughout the house. The house you were in was dark and the LED lights were the only source that helped you weave through the crowd of unknown faces. You didn’t know why you were there, but after a good hour of begging from your best friend, she dragged you to the frat party she’s been talking about all week. It was the first week back to university after summer vacation and the excited chatter surrounded you as you made your way back to your best friend. Your eyes landed on her who was surround by a couple of your other friends on the couch in the living room and a string of curses left your lips as you noticed the people who joined your group.
“Y/N!” she exclaimed as she met eyes with you and waved you over.
You smiled at her as you gazed at the handful of boys that intermingled with your friend circle. Brad, the resident playboy, had his arm lazily wrapped around your best friend’s shoulders and you mentally rolled your eyes. Hannah always knew how to get herself in trouble, so it wasn’t a surprise that Brad had found himself by her side. Harrison who was the frat’s vice president sat next to your other friend, Jade, and both were engaged in this heated debate about a show they liked. Your eyes fall onto the president, Tom, who sat on the side and pitched in his two cents here and there with your group. His curls were tucked underneath the black snapback he wore. Before you could stop yourself, your eyes began to unconsciously check him out. The grey V-neck shirt he wore snuggly fit around his torso and complimented his arms as he leaned over and rested his elbows on his knees. His signature black joggers were paired with the latest pair of kicks he bought, and you noticed that he had added small accessories to his outfit. The sterling silver Rolex watch and matte black ring sat on his right hand and you had to mentally block all the dirty thoughts that began to entire your mind. Damn, he looked good. You looked back up, only to have his brown eyes met yours and you mentally cursed at yourself. Fuck, I got caught. A smirk crept onto his lips and nodded his head at you as you tried to play it off, taking a seat on the edge of the couch.
“Y/L/N, nice to finally see you join us.” He greeted as he casually took a sip of his beer, a playful glint present in his eyes.
“Holland.” You greeted and nodded back at him.
The two of you knew of each other due to your best friend being a constant guest at his frat’s party. You crossed paths with him multiple times whenever Hannah called you to pick her up or ended up dragging you along so you could get out of your apartment. Being friends wasn’t something the both of you considered to be, but more like close acquaintances who occasionally bonded over the shared love of people watching and roasting anyone who passed by. If the atmosphere called for it, a flirtatious exchange would ensue between the both of you.
“So, what have you guys been up to?” You asked as you eyed the group and took a sip out of your drink.
“Haz here was telling us about a girl he was trying to hook up with but was immediately turned off when he found out that she’s never watched Friends before,” Jade replied and stuck her tongue out at the guy.
Harrison shrugged his shoulders and said, “What can I say? A girl’s gotta have good taste in television in order for me to be attracted to her.”
You rolled your eyes and laughed. “Haz, I’m not sure if I should agree with you or tell you that what you said is one of the shallowest things I’ve heard.”
Tom nodded in agreement before adding, “She’s right mate, you can’t just base an innocent girl off of her knowledge about a TV show.”
“Fuck off mate, I thought you’d at least be on my side because of your reputation with girls.”
You snickered at Harrison’s comeback and Tom playfully nudged your side. Your eyes met his as you smirked at him and shrugged.
“It’s facts.” You said to Tom.
“I’m not that bad.” He huffed as his eyes traveled to the rest of the group who started to nod in agreement.
“Oh yes you are, Holland. All you want is a simple fling.” You said as you flipped your hair over your shoulder.
“Am I really?” he asked.
Everyone murmured in agreement and you lightly nudged him so he could look at you. Leaning onto your palm, you turned your body towards his and said, “Holland, you are literally seen with a different girl every week.”
He arched an eyebrow and tilted his head to meet your gaze.
“And how do you know that I’m seen with a different girl every week? I thought you didn’t care about my whereabouts?”
Damn it. You could feel your cheeks heat up as everyone began to tease you. Out of the corner of your eyes, you could see Hannah and Jade sharing a certain look and you simply rolled your eyes at Tom. Amongst the three of you girls, the attraction you had towards Tom was pretty evident. It was something you wanted to keep on the down-low because you knew you just weren’t on his radar.
“It’s what I hear from everyone, Holland. Don’t get too ahead of yourself.” You smoothly replied.
He feigned being hurt and put a hand on top of his heart. “Ouch, that kind of hurt darling.”
You laughed and leaned forward so that both of you were at the same eye level. “It just means I have standards, Holland.”
Tom playfully pretended to get the air knocked out of him as Harrison exclaimed, “And Tom just got triple knocked out by Y/N!”
The entire group burst out laughing and you held your hand out towards Tom who stayed laying down on the couch. He took it wordlessly and nodded in thanks before turning his attention back towards the group. Everyone began to talk about the upcoming semester and just thinking about the stress that was going to be thrown at you made you want to take a sip of your drink. You looked down towards your cup and noticed that it was empty. Scrunching up your nose at the fact I was empty, you pushed yourself off of the couch and asked, “Anyone else need a refill? I’m gonna go get myself another drink.”
Everyone else shook their head but Tom was the one that set his beer bottle onto the table and stood up.
“I’ll go with you; I’ve been meaning to get a new one, so I guess now’s a good time.”
Both of you headed towards the kitchen and as you made your way through the crowd, you spent the entire time trying to calm down your racing heart. Once you made it to the kitchen, you made your way towards one of the coolers. Bending down, you opened up one of them and noticed that it was the one filled with beers. Fishing through the icy drinks, you looked behind you and raised an eyebrow. Tom was casually leaning against the island that was in the middle of the kitchen as he shamelessly checked out your butt.
“Hey Holland, eyes up here bud.” You smirked as you motioned for his eyes to meet yours.
He coughed and gave you a lazy smirk. “Sorry sweetheart, I couldn’t help myself especially with the outfit you’re wearing tonight.”
You turned away from him as you pretended to look for the beer he preferred. The outfit was not your personal choice, but Jade was the one that wanted to dress you up for that night. You were wearing a red tube top and black high waisted shorts that were a little cheekier than what you would usually prefer. It was accompanied by a black, cropped denim jacket and with Hannah’s support, your friends insisted on this outfit in hopes that you would gain someone’s attention. Smiling to yourself, you mentally thanked the girls since it looked like the outfit was certainly doing its job.
“On to more important things, which one do you want? I don’t think there’s any more of the beer you were drinking earlier.”
“Aw, were you thinking of me?” he teased as he walked over and stood next to you.
You straightened out as he scanned through the options presented before him. A scoff escaped your lips as you took his previous position and crossed your arms over your chest.
“Only in your dreams, I was just trying to be nice.”
He stood back up with a new beer in hand and laughed. “Oh, trust me, you’re in my dreams every night. Your every guy’s dream in this house, love.”
You gave him a look of disbelief and laughed. “I don’t know if I should actually take that as a compliment given you sleep with different girls or say thank you because that means I’m actually decently attractive. Don’t play with me, Tom. I can’t be in your guys’ top ten list.”
Trying to distract yourself, you browsed through the coolers before finding a bottle of vodka. You busied yourself by taking the bottle out and making yourself the mixed drink you always liked so you wouldn’t have to look at him.
“I’m not kidding Y/N. You need to give yourself more credit.” Tom replied.
You felt his presence next to you and you glanced the other way while taking a sip out of your drink. It was the start of the cycle that you guys would fall into whenever you appeared at one of his frat parties. The both of you flirted here and there when there was enough alcohol in both of your systems. Time would quickly pass before you know it with your guys’ banter and nothing more would move on from teasing touches and meaningful gazes.
Tilting your head up to look at him, you stared into his brown eyes and searched for what his intentions were. The cheeky smile that attracted you was plastered on his face as he confidently held your gaze. He took a step closer to you and rested his forearm on the island while leaning his weight against it. Tom’s eyes broke away from yours as he looked over the features of your face. You didn’t know what was going through that mind of his and you wanted to know why he was suddenly interested in constantly flirting with you.
“Why are you suddenly interested in me, Thomas?” You asked.
He chuckled and quirked an eyebrow at you. “Are we going by full names now, Y/N”
You shook her head and laughed, “No, but I’m really curious as to why you’re wasting your time on me. You can get any other girl on this campus so why me? What changed your mind?”
Tom shrugged and said, “I can’t help it, I love watching your expression getting all flustered even though you try not to show it.”
You bit your bottom lip as he stared you down and rolled your eyes as you felt your cheeks heat up. I hate how I get flustered so easily... Tom chuckled as he watched your inner battle with yourself and before he could stop himself, he reached out and tucked a stray hand behind your ear. You were snapped out of your daze and looked back at him.
“Tom I’m serious.”
Looking down at your drink, you swirled it around as your thoughts began to go everywhere. He pursed his lips and looked back to where you guys came from only to find out that your group had dispersed from the central living area. He knew that you wouldn’t give in so easily, but Tom didn’t think you’d be this hard to get to you. His reputation was one he wasn’t proud of, but the times that you guys were together were the most memorable times compared to any with the nameless girls he couldn’t remember. Your previous encounter was what made him realize that he had begun to grow feelings for you. The both of you ended up staying awake until sunrise at the summer bash his frat threw before everyone went on summer break. You didn’t feel like going home because Hannah had sent a text that she was bringing a boy to your guys’ shared apartment with Jade. He found you sitting by the bar outside enjoying the time to yourself. Tom decided to join you and that was the first time you guys had a serious and meaningful conversation. There were no awkward pauses and the flow between the both of you was natural. And by the time you left after he watched you drive away safely, Tom realized that he already missed your presence. That summer, he promised to himself that he was going to work hard to make himself the best he could be for you. Now that the odds were playing in his favor, tonight was the night he was going to take the chance to pursue you.
Snapping out of his thoughts, Tom noticed that you two were left by yourselves and he sighed before reaching out to grab your hand. With a questioning look on your face, you let him drag out of the kitchen and towards a more secluded part of the house. He led you into their backyard and towards the alcove that was nestled in a back corner by the pool. Both of you sat down, side by side on the love seat that was there, and you looked at him expectantly as you set your cup down on the ground beside you.
You watched as he pursed his lips, a habit of his that you noticed when he was thinking and waited patiently for him to say something. He played with the beer bottle in his hands and Tom finally looked at you again. The confident aura that he usually exuded towards the people he was around was replaced with a nervous and contemplative one.
“Tom?” You asked softly.
He smiled and let out the breath he didn’t realize he was holding as he looked at you. “You probably wouldn’t believe me, but you’ve got me smitten.”
Once you heard those words you couldn’t believe your ears. Your eyes widened slightly, and you began to deny it.
“I think you’re a little bit drunk, Tom. Sure, we’ve flirted here and there but we all know you wouldn’t go for me. You’re probably just horny and want to get in my pants.”
He mentally winced at your words and he set his beer bottle down before grabbing your hands.
“I’m serious about this, Y/N. I know it might take a while for you to believe me, but you’re like a breath of fresh air for me. It wasn’t until recently that I realized my feelings for you. After the first couple of times we crossed paths last year, I would look forward to seeing you. Whenever I spot Hannah or Jade amongst the crowd of people, I hope to see you near either one of them. Whenever we have our roast sessions after our friends ditched us it always leaves me in a better mood.”
Butterflies began to arise in your stomach as you listened to his words but a part of you didn’t want to give in so quickly. The sincerity in his eyes was genuine as he looked at you and you didn’t know how to react. You were attracted to him with no doubt and you enjoyed his company a lot, especially whenever he found you at parties while Jade was off trying to win beer pong and Hannah was trying to find a new boy toy. He had a great reputation all throughout campus besides his notorious playboy ways, but you knew he was well-grounded.
Tom patiently waited for your response as he admired your beauty. The gentle glow from the pool reflected onto your face and there was a feeling inside that warmed him up. It always happened whenever he was with you and no one else. There was something comforting about the way you presented yourself to others. Tom admired you for the way that you knew what you wanted and didn’t conform to following others. You welcomed others into conversations and got along with anyone who you crossed paths with.
“Tom, it just makes me confused that this is happening all so suddenly. Last week I just saw you with this random girl you picked up at a party and now you’re telling me all these things?”
He nodded to your words and caressed your hands with his thumbs. His gaze was cast down as he tried to figure out what his next move was. You concentrated on the comforting feeling he was giving you as he began to get lost in his thoughts. It was hard for you because this was all that you wanted, but because of how you’ve gotten hurt in the past, you wanted to make sure he was serious about everything that he was saying. You naively believed those types of words before and your heart was broken to pieces at the end of it. After taking your time to heal, you promised yourself that you would never let yourself go through that type of pain again. You wanted things to work out between the both of you because you dreamed of this type of scenario happening. In order for all this that was developing between the both of you, you needed to make sure it was on equal terms that were respected.
You sighed and cupped his cheek so he could look at you. Giving Tom a small smile you continued what you wanted to say to him.
“Don’t get me wrong Tom, I’m really attracted to you and would like to see how things go. You have to understand that I’m trying to protect myself from getting hurt. I know you’re a great guy, but the way you’ve presented yourself with girls is something that I don’t know I can trust.”
Tom noticed the broken look in your eyes, and he leaned into your touch before grabbing your hand then softly planting a kiss on the inside of your palm.
“I know we’ve always just playfully teased each other here and there but trust me when I say that I’m serious about this. Let’s take the time to get to know each other more because I know I want to get to know more about what goes on in that mind of yours. If you would just give me a chance, let me prove to you that I can be the guy to treat you right.”
You could hear the sincerity in his voice as he warmly gazed at you. Throughout this whole exchange, you didn’t see his playboy character, but Thomas. The boy that was in front of you was Thomas that all the boys of his frat look up to and the boy that is known for always talking about his family. He took the risk to let down his walls when it was just the two of you and you knew that he put the ball in your court for what was to happen next. Your heart was already in it, but it was your mind that was holding you back. There was a part of you that wanted to immediately show him that you reciprocated the way that he felt about you, but all the scars you’ve been working so hard to heal from served as a reminder to not let history repeat itself.
Your eyes traced over his facial features as you worked out what you wanted to say as your answer to him. Memories of both of you flooded your mind as you looked back at how you got yourselves in this situation. The first-time you guys met, your friends ditched you and in your mission on finding them to go home, you bumped into Tom. He immediately tried to flirt with you in his drunken stupor. You rolled your eyes at him and laughed before pushing him away telling him that you were trying to go home. He was persistent and followed you around trying to get a rise out of you. When you found out that your friends had already left the party to pursue their own hookups for the night, Tom took it upon himself to walk you to your car. From that moment, you guys noticed each other more and unconsciously gravitated towards each other every time you crossed paths. He was great company at the parties if he wasn’t on a mission to hook up with someone and once you both found out you had the same type of humor, that was when the roast sessions began when there was nothing left to talk about. On campus, you’d occasionally bump into each other. He’d be the one to playfully send a wink your way and you’d stick your tongue out at him. You often wondered why you guys hadn’t grown closer, but as time passed you realized it was always due to both of your busy schedules trying to graduate that year.
Something just clicked inside of you as your heart and mind came to a mutual agreement after reflecting on all that’s gone on with Tom. You wanted to give him a chance, but it was going to be on your own terms. Your idea was a bit cliché, but it would help both of you in the long run. If this was going to be a thing for the both of you, you had to make sure that it would all work out. A cheeky smile appeared on your face as you let out a chuckle. He raised an eyebrow at you and smiled back at you.
“…What?” he asked.
You rested your elbows on your knees as you clasped your hands together to meet his eyes. With a playful glint in your eyes, you smirked and said, “Let’s give it a go Holland.”
His grin widened and was about to say something, but you held up your hand to stop him. “Before you say anything though, you need to listen.”
Tom pouted and said, “Don’t play with me like this, sweetheart.”
You laughed before continuing, “It’s nothing bad just a bit of a challenge.”
“A challenge?”
“I’ll give you a month. One month for you to prove to me that you want this to actually be a serious thing between us. Within that time period…let’s just say you need to make me fall in love with you.”
A confident smile appeared on his face as he stood up and offered his hand to you. “That’s it?”
You gladly took his hand as he pulled you up and he wrapped his arms around your waist. Biting your bottom lip, you nodded in response and rested your hands on his chest. You could feel his rapid heartbeat and he leaned his forehead against yours.
“That’s all, Holland. You got one month.”
“Game on, darling. It’s going to be an easy game for me. You won’t be sorry.”
Before you knew it, he swiftly swung you around in a hug and you let out a squeal. Both of your laughter filled the air as he set you down and a comfortable silence fell between the both of you. You’d never admit it to him just yet, but finally being in his arms felt safe. He kissed your forehead as he tightened his grip around you. A blissful feeling spread throughout your being as you began to look forward to what would occur in the month ahead.

@whumptober2020: Day 21 – Infection
Fandoms: Psych & Fringe Characters: Shawn Spencer, Peter Bishop Universe: Pre-Canon (both accounts, ~1998 (both around 21-22)) Summary: Shawn ignores the signs of an infection. Thank god another runaway genius is there to steer him in the right direction.
Despite the churning of his stomach, rent was steep and Shawn’s bank account too low to cover the expense it posed, so he geared up for yet another shift at the twenty-four-hour diner down the road. Being already a month late in payments and in the bad graces of his landlord, Shawn summoned all the strength he could, wiped at the sweat beading his forehead, and took to the streets (on wobbling feet). Worse comes to worst, he could always run to the restaurant’s toilet, should he need to unload.
He walked into the diner at eight-fifty-two in the evening, punched in, and prepared for a gruelling, overnight shift.
The night began, thankfully, uneventfully. Shawn wearily rubbed circles of a paper towel into the countertop until ten-thirty p.m. when a young man, maybe a year older than Shawn if that, sauntered in. He made a beeline for the bar stools, slid onto the vinyl, and hunched over a scrap of paper. Shawn eyed the new brunette half-attentively. Swap the rumpled M.I.T sweatshirt for a leather jacket, throw on a cowboy hat, and maybe he could pass as an Indiana Jones impersonator. Shawn bit back a laugh at the thought. Though the young man was handsome in a charm-your-parents sort of way, there was no matching the great Harrison Ford.
Movie references aside, Shawn itched his wrist, tugged down his sleeve again, and shifted across the bar to greet the newcomer. Upon closer inspection, he noticed key features of the young man’s: dark circles under the eyes, a stain on the sweater’s left sleeve, the lack of order to his hair.
“How’s work at the garage?” he asked, coming to a stop directly across from the newbie. It might have taken him a few decades, but he’d finally understood how he wanted to use his gifts (who knew it’d take running out on his childhood home to figure that out).
The man looked up, confusion frozen in the shining blue of his eyes.
“Grease stain,” Shawn said, nodding to the man’s torso.
"Astute of you,” he muttered.  “Where’d you learn that party trick?”
Shawn shrugged. “Well, when you work here long enough,” he dismissed. How easy it was to pretend his dad hadn’t had influence on his life. Like he wasn’t the reason Shawn was fifty states East of his stomping ground; like he wasn’t the reason Shawn could derive intimate life details from other people; like he wasn’t any of that, all of that was Shawn’s doing. How easy– how addicting it was to have agency over his own life. “What can I get you?”
“Coffee.” Not even a hesitation. Shawn lifted his brows but turned around to grab the brewing pot with the black handle. His left arm smarted with the motion, but other than a grimace in response, he ignored the pain.
He threw a reply over his shoulder, “I’m guessing, not decaf?”
“Right again.”
Shawn topped off a ceramic mug with delicious smelling French roast, spun carefully around, and slid the mug across the counter. “Any milk or sugar?”
The young man smirked. “Why don’t you try to guess that as well?” he asked, already slipping his fingers through the handle. Shawn made a show of holding his hand to his head and scanning the guy up and down only to release his position with a dramatic gasp and drop of tension.
“You prefer it black,” he announced.
“Couldn’t be more wrong,” was the answer. “Cream and sugar, please.”
Shawn ducked down to the fridge and pulled out a handful of cream pouches. He piled them onto the counter where they promptly skittered apart from one another. One tumbled over the other edge of the counter, yet before it could fall, the customer stuck out his hand and caught it in his palm.
“Nice catch,” Shawn said. Absently, he brought his right hand to his left wrist and scratched through the shirt sleeve.
The man cracked open a cream container. “”Nervous tick?” he nodded to the itching.
Shawn jumped out of his head and right back into those sky blue eyes. “Oh!” He disengaged his fingers from scratching and pulled his sleeve down once more. He chuckled. “Uh, no, just itches. You don’t have sugar yet.”
“Or a spoon.”
“Stole the words right out of my mouth.” Shawn chuckled again. “I’ll go get you one.” He disappeared into the back room, coming out five seconds later with a spoon and sugar dispenser. He set the sugar before him and handed over the spoon. A quick “thanks” received, Shawn parted for the position he’d left mid-clean, not that he wanted to finish the job. His knees shivered with strain, and his stomach rolled with nausea. He reached out to steady himself on the espresso machine.
“You okay over there?” Shit, the guy saw. Shawn pressed his lips together, waiting for his vision to clear of black spots, before calling back a (supposedly) reassuring ‘yeah’.
“Tripped,” he dismissed the stranger’s concern. Eyeing the rag within reach, Shawn snagged it with his good hand before and wiped the excess sweat from his brow before spinning on his heel and facing the customer. “So. You got a name?”
“Peter,” he said casually before shaking the stirring spoon towards Shawn’s lapel. “Don’t employees usually wear name tags?”
Shawn glanced down at his shirt. He bared a breathy laugh. “You’d think,” he smoothed over. “Yeah, I forgot mine.” Again. Thank god the store manager wasn’t working this night, so Shawn could skate by without so much as a mention, let alone a lecture about responsibility to maintain business dress code. It’s just a name tag, he’d roll his eyes, which in itself received a bark back. “Usually, it’d say ‘Shawn’ right there,” he pointed to his chest, “just imagine it. And if my manager asks, I always have it on.”
“Gotcha,” Peter said. Shawn only wished he’d heard it. The black spots resurged upon him with a vengeance. He jerked away from the counter’s edge, eyes squeezed tight, wrist flaring in pain. “Shawn?” But queasiness washed over him like the downpour of a storm front. The entirety of both his legs morphed into jello.
“Fine, I–” Suddenly, the walls and ceiling switched places. The black spots in his vision won out. The last thing he felt was the floor.

Stuff that I started but never finished ♥︎
An actual compilation of my mess of a writing. This is stuff I never finish in 2019 because I lost motivation, ran out of ideas, fell asleep because it was just a 2am thought. It’s messy but here it is! Some of it is promises I could never even get around too, I’m sorry but I hope you enjoy!
Boxer!dad!tom x reader(I might finish this one for a writing challenge)
Summary: Tom comes home from a match, bruised and bloody. He hates the way he looks and never wants his daughter to see him like this, broken and in pain, but sometimes all his daughter wants to do is help.
Two clicks, two clicks was all you heard as Tom tried to stumble in quietly after a match. The door unlocked and swung open hitting the wall and you can hear Toms uneven breath begging for help. His body glisten in sweat and his hands held onto his stomach trying to cover up the large gauge that rested there.
“Tom?” You rubbed your eyes as you walked into the living room seeing him in the kitchen grabbing a bottle of water from the fridge and chugging it as if it were his last bottle of water he were to ever drink. “Tom, come here.” You rush over to him and assist him with walking.
“I’ve got myself darling, you go back to—“ He starts and you look down at what he was holding. His hand covered in blood, that was no secret. The cut was oozing and it was stained purple and green around to show just how bad it was.
“Don’t tell me to go back to bed, you’re hurt.” You warned him as you helped him into the bathroom where you kept his emergency kit.
“Where is she?” He spoke mentioning your daughter who normally stayed up waiting for her father to tuck her in, even if that meant 1am.
“I put her to sleep hours ago.” You look at him and he breaks eye contact.
“Good, she doesn’t need to see me like this.” He sniffled. You knew that tom hated this, at least the day after Sophia was born. When his daughter was born he promised she’d never see her father broken, stumbling in and falling into pieces as her mother tried to fix him. Promised her she’d be safe and normal.
“Hey,” you tilt his chin up so he can look at you. “This doesn’t make you a bad parent.” You remind him and he nods. He feels the alcohol hit his skin and immediately hisses in pain.
“Daddy?” A small girl—
Peter Parker x reader
Summary: peters heater is broken so he substitutes his cuddles instead
Warm mug of tea meets your cold quivering lips.
Peters heater was broken, for the third time this month his heater was broken. He refused to get a new one, it was understandable since it was so expensive and peter was college student who could barely afford his own books. It also didn’t bother him, he had way more warmth for some odd reason and it didn’t bother his roommate ned either. But you swore If he didn’t get it fixed you would stop coming over.
“Peter,” you shiver and he looks up from his book. His face innocent and his body clean from goosebumps. “I’m cold.” You pout and he sees how you already have his flannel, his hoddie, his sweats, fuzzy socks, and you were ready to put on some gloves. There sat peter, short sleeves and sweats.
“Do you want a heating blanket? I think may packed some away somewhere.” He gets up to find something to help and you shake your head.
“Can we take a break and cuddle?” You asked. Peter loved cuddle breaks, more than any break in the world. Holding you in his arms and talking was just the start of something beautiful. Sometimes you’d fall asleep, sometimes you’d watch movies, others you’d simply just talk and then get up to do more work.
“C’mere.” He holds out his arms and you gladly fall into them. His skin warm and you’re still surprised that not a single goosebump messes with it. You curl into his chest as he holds you and you listen to the sound of his beating heart.
Ceo!dad!tom x singlemom!reader
From the series dine and dash I worte and loved over the summer. I wanted so badly to do an mini series but didn’t have enough ideas and people wanted black beauty more. So here is the start of something i never figured out
Dark roast coffee filled your nose on the early Tuesday morning.
Somehow, being six months pregnant, you got to sleep in. At first, the smell of coffee made you nauseous. Tom had Harrison bring him coffee since you didn’t like him making it at home. Now all you want is to have the taste of coffee and the feeling of caffeine run though your veins again.
“Daddy! I can’t find him! I don’t wanna go without him!” Cara whines as the Time was 8:15 and Cara didn’t have school so she was going to get dropped off at Toms mums house for the day.
“I don’t know Then princess, did mummy put him in the dryer?” He asked. It was pascal, the lizard from tangled she brought around everywhere.
Her feet pad down the hall as she nearly runs into you with a distraught look on her small face. You walked with her over to the dryer before handing her the doll.
“I found him!” She holds him up and then runs back to the couch.
“Can I have just a sip?” You joked. Tom always looked best in the morning, in your opinion. His hair gelled back and his suit still nice and crisp. His glasses sat pretty on his face just like the rest of his features.
“Very funny, hows He?” Tom asked. He was very excited, he would’ve loved a girl but there can only be one princess in charge, that was Cara.
“Wanting out, I can feel it.” You hold your swollen stomach. Everything hurt, it wasn’t as fun or cute as tom tried to make it.
Fwb!Tom x reader
Summary: too many weddings and too little people to fall in love with. You and tom both desperate for the love you deserve and what better place to realize it at your best friends wedding?
The dark blue dress hugged your body, it was tight, it felt so right against you skin. Parts of you wished you went with the gold but the dark navy blue was just as pretty too for the autumn wedding.
Your best friend was getting married, this would be the third wedding in the year span you’d be going to. First it was your sisters, then it was your cousins, now your best friends, and in a couple of months your other best friend would be getting married too in the nice London summer. You, you had this trouble finding love. You would have it in the palm of your hand and then it’d vanish. You tried everything, endless dates, one night stands, nobody stole your heart.
Now you had tom, Tom who was one of your friends who wasn’t getting married this year. You found him though Harrison, your best friends soon to be husband, after getting drunk at the engagement party a year ago you two started sleeping together. Swearing that even if you didn’t have lovers you’d have each other and a bed. It was just something so you two wouldn’t drown in your own sadness.
Soft fairy lights littered the ceiling and people danced. Tables with white tablecloths and a warm array of yellow and orange flowers, perfect for this season. You came alone, which you immediately regretted because everyone here had a date, everyone.
“I’m so glad you could make it to the after party!” Your best friend comes up to you and holds your hand. Her nails painted a beautiful pink and her dress now different than the one she wore this morning. She had the worlds biggest smile and the best diamond ring.
“Me too!” You smile and she looks behind you.
“Oh, thought you’d come with tom,” her smiles drops and your heart speeds up. She was probably the only one that knew about Tom, well, Harrison too since they were best friends.
“No, w-why would we come together?” You asked.
“He just...seemed disappointed this morning that you didn’t stay long after to talk with him. Thought maybe you two were trying to keep it low key but then you left and he got pouty and went back to his hotel too. I mean he came down for lunch and was better, thought maybe you two—“ she started to ramble but you shake your head tucking a hair behind your ear.
“No, I haven’t talked to him all day really.” You told her and she pouted again.
“Oh, well, he’s here...somewhere.” She smiles at you before kissing your cheek. “I’ve gotta go, Haz is gonna lose it without me!” She giggles as she runs off to her husband.
You walk around a bit, trying to find at least someone you knew who wasn’t occupied by a date. That’s when you found tom, all alone playing with the cherry in his drink as he scrolled through his phone.
“Hey stranger.” You walk up somewhat awkwardly and he smiles as he sits up a bit.
“Hey,” he sets his phone down and faces you. “Thought you might not show up.” He says and you look around.
“How could I not show up to my best friend's wedding.” You have him a warm smile. He nods as he looks around.
“I’m kinda over weddings.” He admits and you see some disappointment in his face. “My brother, Sam, he’s getting married soon. Well, engaged. He showed me the ring he got for her and it’s beautiful and I’m proud it’s just...I’m over seeing people get married.” He’s honest and you nod.
“My sister got married earlier this year, it was pretty but hell for me. It’s like we’re old now.” You take his drink from him and take a sip before making a sour face.
“It’s just a Shirley temple darling, not that hardcore.” He laughs a little and you shake your head.
“Still.” His arm moves around you and you lean your head on his shoulder. He’s your fuck buddy, you two sleep with each other and then leave. No hard feelings, no actual feelings, just fuck and leave.
“Do you wanna...dance?” You asked swallowing hard in the process.

jonmartin voice requests transcript
i don’t think anybody’s made a transcript of the requests from the gaming & giving stream yet so here it is. i cut out the first few minutes where they’re just getting ready and a few minutes at the end, but otherwise it’s the full thing
ALEX (out of character): So, we are going to be going through a bunch of reads which are what people have been, basically providing us to say. I’ve not seen these beyond checking that I can open the document, so this is sort of, a bit of a blind read on my end.
JONNY: I’ve read through some of them and they are awful.
ALEX: (laughing) Fabulous. Great. So with that in mind, I’m now opening it up. Um... okay, cool, so for the first one, you- I need to interrupt you. (frustrated) Oh, fine.
JONNY: Okay, so this is from donut_bridgetrose. (spooky voice) The Magnus Archives is a podcast-
ALEX (ooc, very loud and overenthusiastic): FUCK, DUDE! YEAH IT SURE IS!
(Jonny starts laughing out of shock)
ALEX: I thought that was an appropriate level of enthusiasm.
JONNY: (laughing) Sorry, I didn’t expect you to put quite so much pepper on that one!
ALEX: I mean, I don’t know what to say like-
JONNY: No, fair enough, fair enough.
ALEX: I’m just reading with (???) intent. I’m up next, who’s this one from?
JONNY: Uh, reatx.
ALEX: Okay, given the writing of this one, I’m going to assume this is actually intended as a Martin one, not an Alex one, so I’ll do it as such. (clears throat to do Martin voice, disappointed tone) Jon, please j-just stop reheating tea in the microwave!
JONNY: The next one is from sofairycakes. Again, I’m gonna assume it’s a- like, I think these are all pretty much JonMartin ones, to be honest. I don’t think anyone’s actually said- the thing is, Alex, I don’t think anyone actually cares what *we* say.
ALEX: (laughs) That’s true. So I think we need to do this one like-
JONNY: No one’s paying to have, like, Alexander J. Newall say something, you know?
ALEX: It’s fine, I’ll pay me. Okay, I think we have to do this simultaneously.
JONNY: Yeah, because it says “both.” Or... let’s- do you want to go first?
ALEX: I don’t know if it is- no, let’s say it together, let’s say it together. Let’s try and sync up.
JONNY: I don’t- I don’t think they want it simultaneously. I think what this means is they don’t mind which one’s which.
ALEX: Very well, in which case then, I’ll go first.
JONNY: Okay.
ALEX: And I’ll do it as a Martin one, then. (clears throat, Martin voice, soft) I-I’ll take care of you.
JONNY (Archivist): (hoarse, upset voice) It’s rotten work.
ALEX (Martin): Not to me. Not if it’s you. (ooc) There you go.
JONNY: Okay. Ac3yspac3y-
(Alex laughs)
JONNY: Or, ace 3 space 3.
ALEX: Okay, great.
JONNY: (clears throat)
ALEX: Yeah, really get the-
JONNY (ooc, looking straight at the camera): Four rats in a trench coat is the best Peter Lukas, and we love him.
ALEX: (laughs) Direct to camera address, very nice, okay. (as Martin) Jon, why isn’t Lonely Eyes *our* ship name? (ooc) Who was that from, by the way?
JONNY: That was from compostwitch. Next one is from theoceaninmotion, there’s a whole bunch for you.
ALEX: Ooh, yeah. Oh, my formatting’s terrible, I’m gonna do the unspeakable, I’m now just gonna start looking at the text instead of your face. (computer screen shines in his eyes) Ooh, that’s bright, maybe not, maybe not. Okay, gimme a second to just mess with my formatting because I can’t see nothing.
JONNY: There’s very little like streaming to make you realize quite how absurdly pale you are after a year of just being inside.
ALEX: Outside is bad time. Right, okay, I’m gonna give this a go, then. Forgive me if I hesitate here, I’ll do my best. (clears throat) No, don’t-
JONNY: This is from- sorry. This is from theoceaninmotion.
ALEX (Martin): No, don’t click- Peter, just-just give me your phone, I’ll get the emojis set up, but I-I *refuse* to help you understand Elias’s texts any further from here. There are just some things I don’t need to know! (grossed out noise)
JONNY: This is from joeytwoeyes.
ALEX: I’m gonna assume Martin as well. (as Martin) Mm, assassins killing Elias? My favorite!
JONNY: This one is from nagev.
ALEX: Uhh. Alright, I think this one might be for me, like not a Martin one. (deep sigh) Harrison Campbell is my favorite author.
JONNY: This is one for me from riotcontrolcamp. (as the Archivist) Sometimes people will ask me about my life aspirations and I’m like, I don’t know, I thought I’d be in a car with my hand out of the tail light by now.
ALEX: (laughs) I like that one.
JONNY: This one’s from Cassidy.
ALEX (Martin): Forgive and forget? (very quickly shifts into a hysterical voice that’s very much not Martin’s) No! Resent and remember! (cackles evilly)
JONNY: From cucumberkale, this is a two hander.
ALEX: Oh, yeah, I’m first. (as Martin) I have done nothing wrong ever, on my life.
JONNY (Archivist): I know this and I love you. (ooc) Good little Parks and Rec reference there.
ALEX: Oh, yeah!
JONNY: From the bluescapegoat.
ALEX (Martin, mischievous): Jon, uh, did you hear about the explosion at the cheese shop?
JONNY (Archivist): What? What cheese shop?
ALEX: (wiggling eyebrows) Yeah, da brie [debris] was everywhere.
JONNY: (deep sigh) This apocalypse has officially gone on for too long. (ooc) This is from alfcommittingcrimes.
ALEX: (laughs) (as Martin) Hello, Jon. Apologies for the deception, but I would like to remind you I love you. (laughs)
JONNY: Aww.
ALEX: Cute reference.
JONNY: Um, this one’s from Monty. This isn’t actually-
ALEX: This is more of an instruction.
JONNY: They haven’t scripted anything, yeah. Um, okay. (as the Archivist) Martin, I’m very sorry for ever saying that I hated your tea.
ALEX (Martin): It’s okay. Some things are more important than tea. (ooc) There you go. I thought I’d go sincere-
JONNY (ooc): Oh no! Martin’s been replaced! (Alex laughs) Anyways, this one is from tomakeitworse and it’s for you, Alex. Well, as Martin, not as you.
ALEX (ooc): I mean it’s wrong, but okay. (as Martin) Oolong is the best tea.
JONNY: From shikashaman. (statement voice) Statement of Benedict Avalanche regarding clown milk. Statement begins. Honk.
ALEX: (laughing) I think that’s a call back to earlier this stream, so. (makes ok symbol) Very class act.
JONNY (ooc): One from ladymystree for me. (Sasha giggling in the background)
ALEX: I’m hearing giggling on your end, I think someone’s enjoying themself.
JONNY: No, it’s fine. They’re doing a cryptic crossword and I’m sure they’ve just stumbled across a-
ALEX: It’s really cryptic. Really cryptic. Yeah, it’s a cryptic giggle, alright. Carry on, then.
JONNY (Archivist): Ceaseless Watcher, evict this feline, Her Serene Highness The Empress Nyx from out of the *goddamn* Christmas tree.
ALEX: (laughing) I like that one.
JONNY (ooc): This is from myth_ac. (as the Archivist) Martin and I have this connection where we finish each other’s-
ALEX (Martin): Sentences!
JONNY (Archivist): Don’t interrupt me.
ALEX (ooc): (laughs) I quite like that one as well.
JONNY (ooc): Yeah, I don’t know what that one’s from, I recognise it. But it’s, uh, redderie. (as the Archivist) I’ve been asked why I changed my opinion on poetry. I do not know this. This information is unattainable such as it is. Not even my endless resources could solve such a mystery. No, I did not fall in love with a poet on purpose, next question. (Alex laughs) (ooc) This one’s from coinmaster. Uh, and it’s for you, Alex.
ALEX (Martin): Thank you so much for asking, Jon. My ideal date, uh, would be getting home after a long day, curling up next to a roaring fire and listening to Rusty Quill Gaming. It’s-it’s a podcast, it’s distributed by Rusty Quill.
JONNY (Archivist): Oh, yes, I’ve heard of it. It’s not very good. (roasting) Ohhhh!
ALEX: But it does have a Creative Commons attribution non-commercial sharealike 4.0 international license, so that’s quite cool, too. (ooc) (laughs) I may have riffed there, I apologise.
JONNY (ooc): It’s fine, it’s fine. We’ve said what they’ve asked us to say, anything additional is- that’s bonus. (Alex laughs) This one is from mstars, for me to read in statement voice.
ALEX: Oh! (laughs hysterically, tries to compose himself)
JONNY (statement voice): Why are you so far away in Galactonium? Hey, won’t you save me? Hold me, maybe? I just want to be your little clone baby.
ALEX: (laughs) And that’s in my head for the rest of the day.
JONNY (ooc): This is for you. I refuse to listen to it. I’ve- too many people have told me it’s good. Which means that-
ALEX: Automatically, yeah. Understood.
JONNY: Well, no, it’s just, like- I don’t want it stuck in my head. I’m aware, if I listen to it, it’s in my head forever, and I can’t risk that.
ALEX: You don’t want him- you don’t want Tim getting- well, Tim and Ben, you don’t want them living rent free there.
JONNY: They can’t win!
ALEX: Understood. Okay, in that case, then. (as Martin) Sorry, Elias, I can’t hear you, there’s a panopticon in the way! (ooc) Fair.
JONNY: One from b_ees. Another for you.
(TheBrothersMeredith in the chat: Coward)
ALEX: Oh no.
JONNY: Mm-hm.
ALEX (Martin): (grunt) I’m trying to sneak around in the Lonely, but I’m-I’m dummy thicc and the clap of my ass cheeks just- it keeps alerting the Eye!
JONNY: One from thequack04. (as the Archivist) I have had a very long day, I am very small, and I have no money, so you can imagine the stress I’m under. Square brackets this is a John Mulaney quote close square brackets. (Alex laughs) (ooc) One for you. Uh, from misssunflower94.
ALEX (ooc): I’m gonna assume this is for actually me.
JONNY: No, I think it is for Martin, because remember, Martin’s opinions on poetry.
ALEX: Uh, no, fair, actually, no, I take that back. You are correct, you are correct. (as Martin) I don’t know, I just- I’ve always found Oscar Wilde to just be a bit... overrated?
JONNY: One for me, from awildmeerie. (as the Archivist) Hello demons, it’s me, ya boy. (Alex laughs) (ooc) Um, (stumbles over the name) emperiocism. Sorry for that, emperiocism. Can Jonny sing/speak in his most serious Archivist voice? (serious Archivist voice, speaking) Now, this is a story all about how my life got flipped turned upside down, and I’d like to take a minute, just sit right there, I’ll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel Air.
ALEX: Oh, don’t- (incomprehensible frustrated noises) god.
JONNY (ooc): From marsmagnusandkbouchard, this is for you.
ALEX (Martin): (very angry) Fuck being the bigger person, I’m just- (feral) I’m just gonna start biting people!
JONNY: Excellent. One for both of us from zestymayos92.
ALEX (ooc): (laughing, tries to compose himself) (as Martin) The world ended, and that is super not poggers.
JONNY (Archivist): You’re right, Martin, very not poggers indeed. (ooc) One from catskeleton for you.
ALEX (ooc): That’s just- oh. (as Martin) Roses are red, violets are blue. I’m definitely not a ghost, and Jon, I love you.
JONNY: I have a really difficult one- this anonymous one is difficult because it says “in the style of Sailor Moon” and I’ve not seen many anime, um, animi, sorry, in my life.
ALEX (ooc): The plural is anipodes.
JONNY: And Sailor Moon is not one, so I have no idea what-
ALEX: As far as I am aware, if you want to do it representatively, your clothes need to fly off in a large elaborate explosion and be replaced with some kind of dress-based armor. But that may not be feasible.
JONNY (Archivist): (very awkward) I am the pretty Avatar who fights for the Eye and for knowledge! I am the Archivist, and now, in the name of the Ceaseless Watcher, I’ll punish you! (ooc) I... I don’t know.
ALEX: I think that might have been actually pretty decently close. It’s been a few years since I watched a Sailor Moon, so don’t hold me to that though.
JONNY: I’ve only ever seen silent gifs on... your Tumblrs or your Twitters. Anyways, this is from theraccoonfriend. (as the Archivist) Get out of my swamp. (ooc) Uh, from Kath, for you, Alex.
ALEX (Martin): I’m fine! Stop asking!
JONNY: From sunnyjordie, for you, Alex.
ALEX (Martin): Hey, would you help me out? I’m very gay and a few- and I’d like a few dollars. (ooc) I’m gonna do that again, I think I screwed it up. (as Martin) Hey, would you help me out? I’m very gay and I’d like a few dollars.
JONNY: Square brackets this is a John Mulaney-
ALEX (Martin): Square brackets this is a John Mulaney quote close square brackets.
JONNY: Um, from Linothy, for both.
ALEX (Martin): Please, pleeeease stop drinking tea by just putting the bag in your mouth and just chugging hot water.
JONNY (Archivist): I’m *cultured*, Martin. (ooc) And dang3rgrang3r, or dang 3er grang 3er. Uh, for both.
ALEX (Martin): God, Jon, why don’t you ever wear your own clothes?
JONNY (Archivist): I like your sweater! It makes me feel...
ALEX (Martin): It makes you feel like a thief!
JONNY (Archivist): No, it makes me feel *safe*.
ALEX (Martin): Aww, Jon...
JONNY (ooc): One from voidbean.
ALEX (Martin): I’m sorry, you were STABBED??
JONNY (Archivist): *Lightly* stabbed, I didn’t want to frighten you. (ooc) I think that’s a Brooklyn 99 one.
ALEX (ooc): Yeah, so do I, actually.
JONNY: Sarafifi24.
ALEX (Martin): Press X to pay respects.
JONNY: So from alfcommittingvoicecrimes, they’ve asked “sing chorus of Pump Shanty.” And the thing is, if you want to hear me singing the chorus of Pump Shanty, that is available on Bandcamp, Youtube, and Spotify. So, Alex, why don’t you do it?
ALEX (ooc): Okay, I have no idea so I’m gonna take a random stab in the dark.
JONNY: I’m very excited to hear it.
ALEX: With a tune that doesn’t even scan in terms of meter.
JONNY: No, like just- it’s a folk tune so just sing it like a folk. Sing it to an old folk tune.
ALEX: ...Yes.
JONNY: You know, an old folk tune.
ALEX: (to a tune that’s definitely not Pump Shanty) Pump me boys, let’s a-fly, down to hell and up to the sky. Bend your backs and break your bones, we’re just a million miles from home. (cringing) I have no idea what that should be-
JONNY: (trying not to laugh) Brilliant. No, that was it. You got it.
ALEX: Oh, wicked. I was worried for a moment.
JONNY: No, that was... uncanny, to be honest. We’ve got a few more that are from Nobles donations, so these don’t have specific donor names, so we can just go back and forth.
ALEX: The first one’s as Wilde. (as Wilde) I am so clever that sometimes I don’t understand a single word of what I’m saying.
JONNY (Archivist?): Blartin, that is, Paul Blartin Martin Cop is on his segue and eye ass Jon is sitting on the handlebars. He is facing Blartin in a koala-esque embrace which is not quite an embrace but rather for structural support. His ass eyes are out and alert. He knows all. Petty theft perishes under their collaborative iron fist.
ALEX: (laughing incredulously) Okay!
JONNY (ooc): Do you want to do this one? I think- yeah.
ALEX: Okay, okay, sure. (deep breath, as Martin) Hey, you can do this. It’s been really, really rough, but you can do this.
JONNY (Archivist): Working at the Magnus Institute was like a four year game show called “Do my friends hate me or do I just need to go to sleep?” but instead of winning money, you lose your bloody soul. (ooc) Okay. (as the Archivist) You’re a child, an infant. Your mocking is thus infantile. He’s not my boyfriend. This man is more to me than you could dream. He’s the moon when I’m lost in darkness and warmth when I shiver in cold, and his kiss still thrills me after a millennia. His heart overflows with the kindness of which this world is not worth of. I love this man beyond measure and reason. He’s not my boyfriend, he is all and he is more.
ALEX (Martin): You’re an incurable romantic.
JONNY (Archivist): (next request) He thinks I don’t notice, but the bodies in the hallway speak a clear language. Death is all around us, no one is safe. The signs all point in one direction: Martin’s totally sus.
ALEX (Martin): (noises of disbelief) O-okay, come on, I am innocent! How could you even think that??
JONNY: Martin was ejected.
ALEX (ooc): (laughs) I think that’s it.
JONNY: Yeah, I think that’s the list.

hewwo Erika 1-20 pwease uguu uwu
Holiday
New Year Eve/Day. Erika likes it because she sees it as a reset button for the stuff from the year before, but also, she really likes the parties compared to other holiday parties she's been to. She also likes the New Year's kiss tradition. She will always choose Clara to be her New Year's kiss.
Cooking
Erika can throw stuff together if she needs to, but she mostly runs on healthy low effort foods like salads and roasted vegetables. She also eats a lot of healthy snacks like fruits and rice cakes with peanut butter. So overall, cooking really isn't her thing.
Sleeping
She has trouble sleeping. Erika is a very light sleeper, and any little sound will wake her up. Her panic around sleeping has subsided a bit since her father has died, but she still has nights where she has nightmares about him. She sometimes sleeps with Willow after a particularly bad nightmare, but she has never told Willow about them.
Driving
Her parents wouldn't teach her how to drive, but she did manage to get her license despite that thanks to her older friends teaching her. She passed her test first try when she was 16
Bathing/showering
She bathes daily I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Hugging
She hugs the people she's close to often, which really only includes Clara and Willow.
Kissing
Erika likes feeling control while she's kissing someone, so she will be very forceful and intense. She kisses Clara a lot in public as a way to solidify her "ownership" of her, and to display this to everyone around her. She doesn't really care who's watching, but she has been way more likely to initiate kisses in front of Alora to piss her off.
Sex
Like with kissing, she likes to be in complete control of her partners. She ensures this by taking control of things involving her sexual partners outside of the bedroom, too. Erika lets sex dominate her life. She doesn't care if the other person consents or not, as seen with Clara, Willow, and her attempt with Zerx.
General physical contact
She touches people a lot to show her affection. This is unwanted by a lot of the people she interacts with, but is entirely useful when interacting with Harrison and Kaya.
Physical appearance
Erika is 5'9
Her natural hair color is light brown, but she recently dyed her hair orange.
Wardrobe
Erika has a lot of pink in her wardrobe. I imagine she wears a lot of dresses, but I don't have a whole lot of ideas on her outfits specifically yet.
Jewelry
She doesn't wear a lot of jewelry, actually. Erika likes necklaces, but not much else other than that. She wears necklaces only if they go really well with her outfit for that day.
Nickname
When she was younger (like middle school), she started calling Clara "Clair De Lune" because of her name, and it was her favorite composition at the time. She calls her that still, but only when she's trying to manipulate Clara in some way. She knows Clara is very fond of the nickname and the feelings attached to it.
As far as nicknames for Erika, I don't think there are any.
Dancing
I mean, she likes dancing. I guess she's good at it? She goes to a lot of parties n shit so
Singing
I imagine Erika has a really nice voice. It was one of the things she and Clara bonded over when they were little and just getting to know each other. They used to sing together and encourage each other's talents. Erika doesn't sing as much as she used to, but Clara occasionally asks her to and sometimes she will oblige.
Anger
Erika usually lets her anger out in passive aggressive comments and actions. To the people that really anger her (like her father and Alora), she will go out of her way to do things to hurt them. For Alora, that translated into her trying to turn everyone against her and break her down. For her father, that's still a secret :3c
The physical fight she had with Alora helped her release a lot of anger, but she didn't initiate it and she probably never will initiate a fight.
Soft spot
Clara. Clara, and everything about her. She loves the piano, and the color of her eyes, and her favorite blue sweater.
She really likes bunnies, and has a soft spot for them.
Blue and pink things, specifically hair accessories and sweaters/jackets
Favorite possession
Clara's blanket. Clara gave it to her while they were in middle school, and it became like a security thing for her.
Favorite photograph
It's a picture of her, Clara, Jaiden, and Kaya while at school. She has it saved as her phone background picture.
Relationship with ___
Clara
Erika is genuinely in love with Clara. All the things that she does to Clara to make the relationship toxic is intentional. Erika knows their relationship isn't healthy, but she ignores the thought every time it surfaces.
From the time they met, Erika and Clara have been very drawn to each other. They always felt that they just understood each other. As they got older, Erika struggled a lot with her sexuality. The trauma she faced as a child left her feeling confused about sexual attraction and the act of sex itself. Her relationship with Clara felt incomplete somehow, which is why she asked Clara to be her girlfriend initially.
She's constantly worried that Clara will leave her, which is why she does everything she can to control and manipulate her. Erika doesn't want to lose her. Honestly though, Erika thinks Clara is the most perfect person she has ever met.
Willow
She both hates and loves Willow. She feels a sense of natural superiority over Willow, but she's not sure where this feeling comes from. She knows the things she's doing to Willow is wrong, but she thinks she should be allowed to get away with it because of her trauma.
Part of it is her anger towards the fact that Willow never had to go through what Erika did with her dad. To Erika, Willow was getting off easy in life, and she hated that she was the one targeted by her father rather than Willow. Also, Erika is just. Well, I mentioned this before but sex dominates her entire life.
Other than this, Erika does care about Willow to some extent. She thinks that they are becoming closer through their shared trauma, disregarding the fact that it doesn't really work that way, especially since she's the one causing that trauma for Willow. The only reason Willow is able to convince herself into thinking Erika loves her anyway is because she's the only one who gives her attention compared to her parents.
Alora
Erika absolutely hates Alora. She hates that Alora is seemingly the only one who can see what she's really doing to Clara, and she feels threatened by her. Erika doesn't want to give up Clara, and Alora is a threat to their relationship.
Part of Erika's interest in Zerx stems from the desire to hurt Alora. She wants to cause Alora so much pain that she won't be focused on her relationship with Clara anymore and leave them alone.

Vids and Tricks
Tumblr media
Free days are the best days, everyone knows that. The reason what weekends are the best and why all of those days in between hard days of work were the best had a really simple explanation and it is simply because they are the best in the world, just like today. So far, today it’s perfect.
It is one of those days, if not the only day that I and the rest of the team have had some sort of free time in between all of the mess it’s been going on in this production. I work with my boyfriend, I have done it for a while and being his ‘stylist’ and assistant was not as easy as it sounds, not easy at all if you really think about it. As an actor, he had to be in so many places at a time and rarely had some sort of break in between productions but in the middle of all the projects he was currently working on, this one took the big crown for a lot of reasons and it’s been by far the biggest and most complicated one I have ever witnessed.
Funny thing, we thought we were over with the filming of this project almost a year ago, we call it a wrap and went back to London happier than ever for completing such a big thing, but little did we know, there were some major mistakes in post productions, scripts and everything in between, a series of unfortunate events that lead us all the way back to the middle of Canada, on a house with no cell service, bad internet but an amazing view, thing that we could barely enjoy since the hours of filming were crazy and our free time was mostly spent on crucial things like eating or sleeping or usually getting a lovable but that is another story.
We have been crazy busy these last months. Until today, the perfect day.
It was a hot summer day in Canada, a Sunday to be exact and for once, we were work free and had a full mansion to ourselves, again, it was the perfect day in all shapes and forms. Since the moment we woke up, we knew, this is the kind of day we have to prepare for, so we did; we spend all morning getting all the equipment: beers, some big stake to roast later, groceries of all kinds, floats and last but not least, sunscreen, because we decided, today it’s pool day and we will make the most of it.
The moment we finally got back to the mansion, the moment I changed into a good swimsuit and go out in the sun, I love summer and I would make sure to enjoy it at it’s best while I still can, make my best to get a good tan and relax, turn my phone off, forget the world, today is a day to relax.
So I changed my clothing, dragged one of the long chairs in front of the pool and laid in there, headphones on my ears, canceling the world and the ones around me. This is me moment.
I felt like I was in heaven, the warm sunlight against my skin, the freshness of the air around me and the beat coming from my headphones made me feel like I was in my zone, the perfect zone to be in and that is just how I laid, for hours and hours. I barely notice what goes around me, I am too in my head to even think about anything, but just when I am starting to catch some sleep and fall into some deep slumber that I was feeling the need of having for the past week, a splash of water hits my feet and my eyes are opening in big surprise. That really took me off guard.
“(Y/n)!” I hear my boyfriend’s voice yell from the other side of the pool with a hint of impatience in his voice.
“Yes?” I say in the exact same tone, as I slide myself up on the chair and sit up, lifting my sunglasses off my face and looking over at Tom, who had a sneaky smile on his face as he got himself out of the pool and walked to my direction.
“Are you listening at all?” He asks, shaking his head like a dog and splashing little drops of water all around.
“Sorry, I had my headphones on” I say, pulling the chord from them and leaving them on the little table right beside me along with my phone “what’s up?” I ask, looking up at him with a questioning look.
“I’m just about to make my biggest trick” he says, bragging, as he walks fast along the perimeter of the pool and reaching the diving platform and going up on it and walking straight to the edge.
His movements were too quick. I guess he’s been doing this for a while, it’d make sense, that would explain the splashing sounds going around and laughs everywhere, maybe I was missing out, but I didn’t care, I was having fun on my own.
“Which is?” I ask, raising my eyebrow as he happy bounces a little on the platform with the balls of his feet.
“So I jump from here, right?” he explains, pointing down at his feet and looking at me directly, making sure I was following.
“Ok” I nod
“But then Harrison throws the float and I go right through it, with… wait for it, a flip”
“Oh gosh” I shake my head, not believing or even picture how that would look like.
“Easy” he teases nodding at Harrison, who is already picking the float from the pool and walking out of the pool.
“No, not easy, you’re going to hit yourself or something” I say, Immediately objecting. Don’t get me wrong, he is a great gymnast in general, when he is on the ground but in the water it seemed a little dangerous, he looked too convinced, I knew how a good (bad) hit in the water feels like and I would hate for that to happen to him. “babe” I say, a little whiny tone in my voice.
“Babe, I’ll be fine, I’ll just hit the water at best, it’s alright” he says, chuckling. Again, too sure of this and waving this all off  “just record everything, would you?” he asks. So just for the record, I do it.
“There’s no way you’ll make that jump” I say, grabbing my phone from the table and opening up the camera.
“I will!” he says, making it sound like he was defying me.
“Don’t break your back” I say as a full warning “We don’t want broken lead characters in here” I scoff as I get him in frame.
“I won’t, I promise” he chuckles, taking a deep breathe and preparing for his biggest trick.
Sometimes he didn’t believe me when I said I loved him doing tricks all around and perfecting his ability as a gymnast after such a long time of quitting training, he said I was too paranoid that he would get hurt and become something bigger when he assured me ‘he knew what he was doing’ and I got to admit, he is right, I was paranoid and I did not want my baby to get hurt, so naturally, when things went don't to him doing these kinds of tricks, they would end up either really good or really bad. We couldn’t afford another broken nose from jumping, so I got my fingers crossed that he will be fine now that he’s in the water.
He takes one big breath and backs up on the platform just enough. He and Harrison make one serious eye contact before going on with the trick, because he seems to give his friend one silent green light as he moves on, he takes a big impulse on the platform and jumps up high, Harrison throws the float with great accuracy and Tom does indeed go through it in the first try(ish). His body go straight to it at first, but when the float is around his torso he curls his body up, doing one big flip in the air and landing on the water in the perfect position.
It takes him a brief second to catch his breath and I take it as well, because my jaw drops at the he just did and I have to control my hand from dropping the phone, that jump was really amazing.
“WOAH” He yells in emotion “OH. MY. GOD” looking up at everyone as Harrison laughed and his mom shook his head in surprise.
“That was awesome!” Harrison’s mom says, laughing in happiness.
“Did you get that?!” Tom yells, pointing at me  “Did you get it?!”
I stutter and struggle to find coherent words as I laugh “I did, I think I did” I said laughing as I stopped the video “I can’t believe it”
“Let me see” he says, sinking in the water and swimming to the edge. I move to the edge of the pool and sit on the slightly hot floor being careful to not be too close to the actual water. Tom emerges from the water and grabs on the edge of the pool as he pulls himself up and sits beside me on the floor. I put the video on the phone and show it to him as he cleans the bits of water left on his eyes and stares at the screen. He laughs at himself.
“That was awesome” He laughs, getting a little closer and leaning his chin on my shoulder this time. “I told you I would do it” he mumbles on my ear, kissing my cheek softly.
“I eat my words I guess” I chuckle, playing the video once again.
He finds it hilarious like we all did and before we can even notice, my phone is being passed around between the people around us, all of them playing the video a million times and checking out one more time, the incredible talent my boyfriend has.
I watch everyone’s reaction one by one and smile at their happiness. This was definitely being a good day for all of us. I think I was getting too much in my own thoughts like it has happened in the past, I yell in surprise when two familiar arms grab me and pull me out of my spot, throwing me in the pool along with him. There’s a cold current going around my body, all of it and I can’t help but yell in surprise once again and I emerge to the surface and find my boyfriend laughing and hugging me and I shake the excess of water off my face. That was not very nice.
“Ah! TOM” I exclaim loudly, splashing water on his face, totally with the intention of pushing him off just a little. “shit, it’s cold” I say, hugging my own body and shaking.
“Post that” He says, ignoring my words and pointing at Harrison as he swims towards me.
“Fine” he nods, making a thumbs up as he grabs my phone and sits on the same place he has been sitting for the entire afternoon.
I feel Tom wrap me in a hug, kiss on my forehead repeatedly and then presume “You defy me and I proved myself”
“I know I’m sorry” I chuckle, looking up at him  “you can do cool tricks, I think I know that”
he proudly smiles “I will take that as an apology and I accept it” he says, kissing my lips shortly and hugging me closer “now are you going to stay and swim with me or are you going to be boring and sleep in the sun?” he asks, his faded eyebrows raising.
“I wasn’t sleeping, dummy” I say, pinching his tummy a little once and then twice.
“Ouch, ouch” he says, laughing, so I stop. He moves his hands to mine and wraps them around his torso as he asks once again “so?”
I consider it for a good five seconds. Yeah sure, laying under the sun with music on for the rest of the day did not seemed like a bad idea at all, but really thinking about it, I liked the idea of hanging out with Tom just a little more on his free day, I was a great time before, but I was sure that with him I would just make my day a lot better.
“I think I’ll stay like this” I say, hugging myself to him as he smiles and kisses my forehead “not everyday you get a free day so” I mumble kissing his cheek lightly “I’ll take some advantage”
“That’s the spirit” he chuckles, squeezing my sides and swirling us around.
We hear music being played on the background, which is just perfect because it sets the perfect scene, so I lay on him and let him lead us whatever he would like us to go. Suddenly the cold was being lifted off my body and his body heat was passing onto me, making me comfortable and making me stay between his arms longer.
“Don’t be gross on the Pool” he hears his friend call in the background.
We laugh.
“Fuck off man” Tom says laughing, lifting his middle finger in the air for a brief second as we kept walking in the pool and dragging me with him.
“Where are we going?” I ask him in a small mumble, looking up at him and that smile I love so much.
“Be gross on the pool” He mumbles back, looking down at me and pecking me on the lips.
That was how I noticed he was done doing all of his tricks for the day, because today it’s his free day and it will be all about relaxing, and if relaxing meant that I would get to stick all day to his side, then I would do it without question. Because this kind of days, along with him, made it seemed just like a dream.

Lime Green: Your favourite kind of scene to write
I love quiet, descriptive scenes that implement clever dialogue but aren’t motivated by it. Any time I get to play with atmosphere and get really introspective while also taking account of details of the world around a character is so fun for me! I thrive off a pretty description lol so scenes motivated by atmosphere are my absolute faves.
Blood Red: Favourite piece of dialogue from your wip
A masterclass in my favourite dialogue from Feeding Habits:
1. “This doesn’t look like eight hours.” - Eliza (ch. 1 - Bad Vegetarian)
Eliza suspects Lonan isn’t sleeping (she’s right) and pulls out this one-liner that I’ll probs use on myself in the future:
“What happened here?” She smooths the dip of his under eyes, her fingertips cold. He smells her perfume, different today, always different, a smell like cloves and lavender. “Are you sleeping?” She presses onto her toes, examines the other side, and her frown deepens. “This doesn’t look like eight hours.”
2. “It’s probably from the back of our medicine cabinet.” - Lonan (ch. 2 - Wicked Child)
Anya, Lonan and Eliza’s neighbour from a few floors up, appears at the duo’s apartment to pick Lonan up as he’s been voluntold to paint her kitchen, interrupting Lonan’s breakfast of stale sourdough. Anya, a hobbyist baker is hyped to see the sourdough, to which Lonan suggests it's most likely from the back of the medicine cabinet. Anya thinks he’s joking but he def isn’t lol.
“Breakfast?” She points to the crumb stuck to the corner of his mouth.
Lonan swallows the remainder of the sourdough quickly, combing off the crumb with a shallow smile. “Sourdough.”
“Did you make it yourself?”
“It’s probably from the back of our medicine cabinet.”
The woman laughs at this, though he’s not fully meant for it to be a joke.
3. “I could’ve jumped over the moon.” - Anya (ch. 2 - Wicked Child)
Anya serving with probably my favourite lines of dialogue I’ve ever written:
“When Eliza told me you’d paint the wall, I could’ve—what is that saying? I could’ve jumped over the moon. I would’ve. The entire thing. All its phases.”
4. “I’m so bad at hallways.” - Anya (ch. 2 - Wicked Child)
(Proof I love every line of dialogue Anya has ever uttered:)
Eliza hasn’t returned any of Lonan’s phone calls since he tried dialling somewhere between the first and last half of the wall. It’s obvious Anya knows he wasn’t aware of the plan, which is why every few minutes, she states new reasons for her forgetfulness with the time. “Eliza ran into me in the hallway, and I’m so bad at hallways,” she said, while rolling the dough between her knuckles. “So many turns.” Brushing her benchtop with more flour: “Time as a mother is such a commodity. It’s like, what’s the down payment for five minutes alone? But Joey’s worth it. Joey’s always worth it. He’s just magnificent. Can’t stay away from magnificence.”
5. “Are you going to clone me?” - Lonan (ch. 2 - Wicked Child)
Anya seemingly collects hair and Lonan verbalizes his concern that she’s prepping to clone him (he seems down for it tbh):
Anya squints, and there the gold goes, focusing on him until she leans forward and plucks a strand of hair from his jaw. It sags with green paint, and before he blinks, she’s clipped it with a pair of kitchen shears.
“You got some paint on you.”
“Oregon,” he says. “Boston. New York.”
“What?”
“You asked where I’m from.”
Anya pockets his hair. He’s sure it’s a subconscious tick—she hasn’t even realized—but still, he wonders what she’ll do with it. If she’ll send it somewhere to get scanned, bagged, tested. How much you can find out about someone with just a nib of hair.
“That’s a lot of places,” she says. “You’re basically transcontinental.”
From her pocket, Anya’s hand twitches. He wonders what she’s doing, if she’s touching the hair, or flaking off its paint, or simply flattening out her pocket.
“Are you going to clone me?” He gestures to her pocket.
Anya doesn’t look.
“I could.”
“Why?”
“You paint walls fast. You’ve got nice hair.”
“Do you collect hair?”
“Just from the people I like.”
6. “You need hobbies.” - Eliza (ch. 2 - Wicked Child)
Always here for the soft Lonan roasts:
“You don’t need a car to do things, Lonan.” She stirs her bowl of congee, the plastic spoon scraping against the Styrofoam. “You need hobbies. Like cross stitch. Pickling. Painting neighbours’ walls.”
7. “I’m the grass.” - Lonan (ch. 4 - Coup de Grace)
Shared this yesterday and idk why but I find this response to this question so hilarious even knowing the context from Isaiah 40:6-8 “All people are like grass, and all their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field. The grass withers and the flowers fall, because the breath of the Lord blows on them. Surely the people are grass. The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”
“Do you feel you’re the God of these women, Lonan? Are you their saviour?”
Lonan shakes his head. “I’m the grass.”
8. “Wish I believed in this shit as much as I believe nutmeg is my new holy saviour.” - Suz (ch. 6 - Blood Sister)
As we move into Harrison’s POV, we also get a lot more humour because his mother Suzanna just says the most iconic things:
The apartment smells overwhelmingly of cloves and apple peel, and he is unsurprised when his mother rushes over to him, flushed from the kitchen heat, her #1 Dad apron bunching at her hips, and pushes a highball glass into his palm in exchange for his findings.
“It’s a secret recipe,” she says, twiddling through his errands. Suzanna lifts the bottle of holy water to eye level, unscrews its cap, and daps two soaked fingers to her lips just as he dips his fingers into the glass, around its rim, and then into his mouth. The hot mull of liquid bursts against his taste buds, citrusy. “Wish I believed in this shit as much as I believe nutmeg is my new holy saviour.”
9. “The Lord?” - Suz (ch. 6 - Blood Sister)
Suz being the comedian she is:
“Is that the secret?” He runs his pinky along the base of the glass so the last drops of liquid climb up his fingernail.
“The Lord?”
Harrison laughs and accepts the holy water she hands him, rescrews its cap in place. “Nutmeg.”
10. “It sounded illicit.” - Suz (ch. 6 - Blood Sister)
I! love! this! woman!
Like the kittens, its nose twitches back and forth, its eyes small enough to be the ovular black beads on Suzanna’s rosary which hangs, decorative, above the front entrance. “It’s a cleanse for the spirit,” Suz said when he questioned her reasoning for bringing religious memorabilia into a house of two atheists. “Dianne from church told me.” Dianne is a beer-bellied schoolteacher, proud pothead and mother of four who frequently volunteers at the church’s weekend functions with his mother. “She’s into that kind of thing. Seances. Jesus Christ. I think she mentioned they had something spicy going on in college.”
“Something spicy?”
“Spicy. Like hot wings. Habaneros. One-night stands. I don’t know Harry, it sounded illicit.”
Caribbean Turquoise: Which character has the most traumatic past?
I think they all experience or have experienced traumas in their own ways like most of us so it’s difficult to “rank” but if we’re looking at it in this way, Lonan for sure had a very difficult childhood + young adulthood that has leaked into his twenties as he’s finally begun addressing/remembering this trauma. He has very little memory of his childhood so it gets very overwhelming as these memories are triggered back, but slowly, as the series has progressed, we’ve gotten an idea for what he’s gone through. He’s working on it!

Trust Only the Solid Rock
Fandom: The Librarians
Rating: General/SFW
Relationship: Flynnstone
Word Count: 7155
After watching The Librarian: Quest for the Spear on New Year’s Day, I had an idea: what if Flynn’s first Guardian was Jacob Stone instead of Nicole Noone. So this is what I came up with, how things would’ve been different, and the same.
Also posted on my Ao3.
-----
“And remember, trust only the solid rock,” Judson said. Flynn stuttered in confusion but Judson disappeared off the screen without clarifying his cryptic message.
At that moment, a rather gruff looking man entered the cabin, chatting with the pilot like they were old buddies. “Let Harrison know I said hi, alright?” the man said, clapping the pilot on the shoulder as he grinned at him. The pilot nodded, smiling as well, and then headed off to the cockpit.
The man, who Flynn thought belonged somewhere in Texas, based on the blue and orange plaid western shirt and well worn jeans, continued down the aisle, stopping right at Flynn’s row. “Aw, was hopin’ for the aisle seat, little more room ya know?” The man’s southern drawl confirmed Flynn’s southern United States theory.
It was at this moment Flynn noticed how the blue on the cowboy’s shirt was the precise shade that matched his eyes. Flynn cleared his throat. “Uh, yeah, sure,” Flynn stammered, hastily moving himself and the book in his lap to the window seat. He forgot he had the tray of the window seat out, so his side slammed uncomfortably into it. It took ten obnoxious seconds for Flynn to finally get himself into the window seat. He expected the man to be annoyed with him, and it’d be a lie if Flynn said he wasn’t a little scared of the muscles underneath that shirt, but the man didn’t seem mad at all, in fact, he looked somewhat amused.
They both settled in to their seats as the flight attendant did the standard air safety spiel. It wasn’t until they had taken off that the cowboy gave in to his clear curiosity about the old book on Flynn’s lap. “What’s that there? Looks ancient.”
“That would be because it is,” Flynn replied. He knew he shouldn’t discuss the book with a stranger, but he had such bad impulse control when it came to anything he knew something about. “Written in the language of the birds, in fact, which no one can read. Well, not yet anyway.”
The man glanced down at the book, then back to Flynn. “And you’re gonna translate it on an airplane?”
“I have roughly seven hours to do so, so yes, I’ll be translating it on this plane. And I would like to get to work as soon as possible,” Flynn snapped.
The man just shook his head at him. “Sure you don’t want help on that?”
“No!” Flynn lowered his voice when other passengers looked at them. “No, I can do it, trust me.”
Now the man looked annoyed. “Fine, then.” He then faced forward, leaning his head back and closing his eyes. Flynn thought the man fell asleep, and would hopefully stay asleep the full flight, but an hour in, he opened his eyes and tried to sneak a glance at the text.
“Do you mind?” Flynn growled, shifting closer to the bulkhead.
“Am I not allowed to be curious?” the man growled back.
“It’s not like you could help anyway, Cowboy,” Flynn retorted, and then flinched when the man tensed. He’s not going to punch me on a plane...right?
The man closed his eyes for a moment, took a breath, then looked down at the text for a moment. “To best protect the staff of old from the hand of evil, split twice and scattered abroad-”
Flynn jerked the book away from the man. “How did you...who are you?”
The man smiled smugly. “The name’s Stone, Jacob Stone. And you’re Flynn Carsen, current Librarian I assume.”
How did know my name? How doe he know the language? “Trust only the solid rock,” Flynn muttered, eyes narrowed at Jacob. Then Flynn sucked in a breath and grabbed his arm excitedly. “You’re the rock, the one Judson was talking about.”
Jacob let out a huff of air at the mention of Judson. “That’s how he briefed you on me? Classic Judson.”
“You didn’t answer my question. How do you know the language of the birds?” Flynn asked, releasing his arm and settling back into his chair.
“I know a whole lot. Enough I could’ve been in that seat right now,” Jacob said, nodding at Flynn.
“Then how come you aren’t? Surely if you know this,” Flynn shook the book gently, “then you’d be more than qualified to be the Librarian.”
“That’s what I thought a few years ago, but when I met Charlene, she congratulated me on becoming the new Guardian for Wilde,” Stone said, folding his arms across his chest like he was still annoyed at the decision. “Apparently my brawn was more important than my brains.”
“What’s a Guardian?”
Jacob looked at Flynn with pity. “They really didn’t tell you anything, huh?”
Flynn shook his head a bit too forcefully. “They don’t tell me anything, and when they do, it’s cryptic, or not useful things like ‘save my receipts.’”
“I’d get used to that, if you wanna keep the job,” Jacob said, smiling at him. “A Guardian protects the Librarian. It’s a dangerous job in a lot of ways, and it’s my job to try to keep you alive to keep on doin’ it.”
Flynn nodded, then tilted his head like a dog. “What happened to the last Librarian?”
Jacob’s mood darkened. “He died, because I didn’t do my job good enough. And I’m not gonna let that happen again.”
Flynn was not sure how to respond to that information. “That’s...good to know.” He cleared his throat, not a fan of having Jacob brooding next to him. “So this book, you can translate it?”
“Sure, but so far I have no clue what it’s talkin’ about,” Jacob said, looking down at the book. “I’m better with art and literature and languages."
“Well, I can handle that,” Flynn said, savoring the fact that he still seemed to be the Librarian for a reason.
---
They made it through most of the book, then as soon as Jacob got up to go to the lavatory, Flynn was promptly almost kidnapped. Thankfully Jacob heard the commotion and burst out of the lavatory and knocked some goons about, krav maga style Flynn noted. To say Flynn wasn’t impressed by the speed at which Jacob disabled their wannabe captors would be a lie. And then Flynn forgot all about Jacob’s fighting style when the Guardian shoved him out of the plane with no parachute.
For a good ten seconds, Flynn was free falling, screaming all the while. And then an arm grabbed him by the torso, pulling him flush against someone, and then there was a jerk of a parachute unfurling as the other arm of this person secured Flynn.
They were drifting at a much less deadly speed now, but Flynn was still screaming. “Shut it, would you?” Jacob rumbled in his ear, loud against the woosh of the wind around them. Flynn stopped screaming, mainly because within another ten seconds they were tumbling to the rainforest floor.
Once Flynn righted himself, he turned towards Jacob, somehow already standing there like Flynn took five minutes to stand up. “You! Do not shove me out of a plane!” Flynn shouted, poking Jacob harshly in the chest.
Jacob stared him down. “We had no choice. If we stayed, we would’ve been captured.”
“You don’t know that! It looked like you had it handled.”
“Don’t question my judgment,” Jacob snarled, putting some space in between them. “Where are we?”
Flynn thought for a moment, thinking of the flight plan and their trajectory. “I need to get above the canopy to know for sure, but we should be fairly close to the secret Mayan temple.”
“Then get up that tree there,” Jacob said, pointing to a thick tree.
“Sure, I’ll just...climb this tree here,” Flynn said, walking over to the tree. Fueled by Jacob’s unimpressed look, Flynn scaled the tree.
Above the canopy, Flynn got confirmation of their location. Annoyingly, Jacob climbed the tree too, and looked annoyingly less winded than Flynn felt. “I’d say we’re about twenty miles away,” Jacob said, squinting at the temple in the distance.
“Nineteen and a third,” Flynn grumbled under his breath.
Jacob rolled his eyes. “Then we should get going,” he said, then left Flynn sitting at the top of the tree.
---
Trekking in the forest was not a thing Flynn really wanted to do, at least not so unprepared, but Jacob didn’t seemed to mind roughing it. They were sitting around a little campfire, eating roasted squirrels that Jacob had trapped earlier. It was quiet without it actually being quiet; the rainforest had plenty of noises, some Flynn didn’t want to think about, but he and Jacob ate in silence, at least, for a little while.
“So...what did you do before you came to the Library? Professor? Grad school?”
Jacob chuckled, shaking his head. “None of that. I was working on an oil rig when I got the letter, and before that I had a couple year stint at land surveying.”
Flynn blinked. “Oh.” He took a bite of meat to occupy his mouth, but the question came out anyway. “Then how did you...learn?”
“Not everyone has to learn through school, Flynn,” Jacob replied. “There wasn’t anythin’ stoppin’ me from reading books from my town’s library as a kid. And the internet is pretty nifty.”
“But...you’re brilliant. Why oil?”
Jacob kicked a little stone into the fire. “My dad has...had an oil company, one of the biggest local ones in Oklahoma. He expected me to run it, and for awhile I did.” He paused, pulling at meat with his teeth, but he eventually continued when Flynn wouldn’t quit staring at him. “My pa, he wasn’t one for smarts, or for people who had ‘em. He was worse than the kids at school.”
“So you hid it,” Flynn said. He hadn’t meant to be sarcastic or anything, but he was bad with the whole social interaction thing.
“Yeah, I did, and what of it?” Jacob glared at him. “Just because I didn’t study like you doesn’t mean I’m any less smart than you.”
Flynn cleared his throat awkwardly, finishing his roasted squirrel. “You, uh, wouldn’t happen to have toilet paper on you?”
Flynn hated the fact that the fire made Jacob’s eyes very piercing, because they were attempting to murder him with a look. Jacob took a knife from his boot, stabbed a leaf, and offered it to Flynn. “Be my guest.”
“Thanks,” Flynn said, taking the leaf and walking away from Jacob. Conveniently, he walked towards the cliff they’d camped near, and happened to see a group of not nice looking people around their own fire. He near sprinted back to Jacob. “We have friends!” he shout-whispered.
Jacob sprang up and followed Flynn to get a glimpse, and then promptly went and put the fire out. “They won’t scale the cliff ‘till morning.” He then settled down next to the dying embers, apparently ready to sleep for the night.
Without the fire, Flynn was acutely aware of the drop in temperature. “It’s, uh, it’s getting cold without that fire. We may need to do something to keep us warm.”
“Are you askin’ to cuddle?” Jacob looked at him with an eyebrow raised.
“No! Uh, I just, was making an observation,” Flynn stammered, pacing around the dead fire.
“Get over here,” Jacob commanded, and it was a voice Flynn was not going to disobey. He sat down next to Jacob, leaving space in between them. Jacob eyed the gap. “That’s not gonna keep us warm.”
Flynn tried to restrain himself, but still probably got right up against Jacob a bit too quickly. The cowboy-fighter didn’t seem to notice. Despite the exhaustion, Flynn’s limbs were buzzing with energy. What am I, a teenager? Jacob made it worse when he wrapped an arm around Flynn’s waist and said into his ear, “try to get some sleep, you’ll need it.”
---
They were up and moving as soon as it got bright enough to make out general shapes of plants, hopefully leaving the people down below none the wiser. They continued hiking through the rainforest...happened on some locals, where of course Jacob spoke their dialect of Portuguese perfectly (and it sounded stupidly good coming out of his mouth, Flynn noted). Jacob even didn’t seem to mind when Flynn geeked out about the mating dance they got to watch that night. In fact, if Flynn wasn’t in such a weird situation, he’d say Jacob was watching him fondly that whole night.
It would’ve been nice to spend more time at the village, but the Serpent Brotherhood showed up the next morning, prompting Flynn and Jacob to flee into the jungle. They ran as fast as the forest floor would let them, and took a plunge over a waterfall to put distance between them and their pursuers. Flynn noted that Jacob’s soaked undershirt (he had his western shirt tied around his waist to dry), clung obscenely to his solid torso and muscular arms.
They got to the temple as the sun neared three in the afternoon. Flynn took over on that one, about got them killed but then saved them, thankfully. When they walked into the treasure room, Jacob kept Flynn from being stupid by dragging him back before he could go mess around with the piece of spear on the pedestal. “Woah there, these things are near always booby trapped. Don’t ever go wanderin’ up to something like that,” Jacob said.
Flynn felt himself flush. “I knew that.”
“Uh huh.” Jacob looked around the room, trying to find a release for whatever trap was inevitably on that pedestal. Flynn wanted to beat Jacob to the punch, so with his quick thinking, he took a rock and threw it at the spear piece, knocking it to the floor.
Jacob spun around to Flynn. “What did you-” A large stone face slamming into the space in front of the pedestal cut him off. Jacob looked at it a bit, then said, “Well, that works.”
They left the temple much quicker than it took them to get in, however the Serpent Brotherhood goons were standing right outside. Considering the odds if they tried to flee, Jacob and Flynn complied, and were dragged harshly through the jungle to a makeshift camp nearby. Someone was in the farthest tent they were facing, based on the rustling Flynn could hear. The person stepped out, and Flynn couldn’t believe his eyes at who was standing in front of him.
Jacob was furious. “Ed...you died...you...how…” It took three men to restrain him.
The apparently-not-deceased, previous Librarian shook his head like Jacob was slow. “What you saw was a special effect. Though your tears were perfect,” Edward said. Jacob bristled, but stayed put as the men restraining him prodded his sides with their guns. Edward looked to Flynn with disgust. “You’re the Librarian?”
Jacob ignored Edward’s jab. “Why?”
Edward swaggered closer to Jacob. “Absolute power, who wouldn’t? Oh, that would be you, the Guardian who hated magic.”
Then three men were not enough to restrain Jacob. He lashed out, grabbing Edward by the throat, before two more men joined the first three to push him back. Flynn noticed the red finger-length marks on Edward’s neck.
Edward coughed a little, grimacing, but then cocked his gun and aimed right at Jacob’s chest. “Goodbye Jacob. It was nice to see you again.”
Before Edward could fire, Flynn leaped in front of Jacob. “You can’t kill him.”
Edward looked at him. “Why not?”
Flynn stood a little straighter, adrenaline substituting for confidence. “Because you need me to find the last piece, and I won’t do it without him.”
Shoving his gun in the back of his pants, Edward closed the five feet between him and Flynn. “I don’t need you. I have this,” he said as took the book out from Flynn’s messenger bag and started flipping through the pages. Edward looked at Flynn in disbelief. “The language of the birds. No one can read this!”
“No one except a real Librarian,” Jacob said from behind Flynn.
Flynn bit back the immediate thought that Jacob technically translated it first. Instead, he started speaking in the language of the birds. “Tu zak su auk chi, coo coo coo coo coo coo coo caksi, kappa pippsi pash. In the language of the birds, that means you’re up a creek, and I’ve got the only paddle.”
Edward slammed the book shut. “Tell me where the third piece is, and I’ll let him live.”
“Don’t tell him,” Jacob said to Flynn.
“It’s in Shangri-La,” Flynn said.
Jacob kicked him in the back of the leg. Flynn winced, but Edward didn’t seem to notice. “Don’t screw with me, that’s a legend.”
“Shangri-La is in Mount Kailesh, in the Himalayas,” Flynn said, then turned his head to look at Jacob. “Excuse me for trying to save your life...again.”
“The spear is more important than my life, Flynn,” Jacob growled, his menacing tone making the mercenaries around them anxious.
“He’s not gonna get anywhere near that spear, unless I interpret the clues in there,” Flynn said, nodding to the book.
---
In captivity, they were shoved through the jungle to an airstrip, onto a plane, under constant watch of at least four men at any time. Both Flynn and Jacob took the break to get rest, and eat what little food they were given. Only when they were scaling mountains in the Himalayas did the security dwindle, though there wasn’t exactly anywhere for them to escape to anyway.
Flynn did not want to visit Shangri-La like this, but Jacob seemed even more distraught about it. “What’s wrong?” he whispered, hoping to not provoke the goons dragging both of them along.
“I...I trained here, to fight, and now I’m here in captivity to take the very thing they’ve sworn to protect,” Jacob replied, looking at the ground the whole time. Flynn noticed the monks were watching the Guardian, giving various looks of concern, disappointment, and pity, but the one in the center had no expression on his face.
“Welcome. It has been long prophesied that you would come today,”  the monk in the middle said.
Edward, not one for pleasantries anymore, pushed in between Flynn and Jacob while the rest of the goons aimed their guns at the monks. “Give us the spear piece.”
The monk in the middle sighed, and then let them into the temple. The Serpent Brotherhood mercenaries shoved Flynn and Jacob through the temple to the golden statue in the back of the room.
“It is hidden inside,” the monk told Edward.
“Open it,” Edward demanded.
“We are the meer keepers. We have no idea how to open it,” the monk replied.
Edward shoved Flynn forward. “Fortunately, he does.” Flynn slowly made his way up to the statue, but apparently it wasn't fast enough for Edward. He pulled out his gun and aimed it at Jacob’s head. “Get the spear piece, or I blow his brains out.”
Flynn raised his hands to show he was complying, took out the book, and looked at it for few moments. “Uh...this can’t be right,” Flynn said, flipping through pages.
“What?!” Edward said, shoving Jacob forward so he could see but still keep his leverage on Flynn.
“Well, this says it can only be opened with the name of god.”
“So?”
“So, the name of god is only the biggest secret in the WORLD. Over four thousand years, people have been trying to figure out, you expect me to come up with it in fifteen seconds?” Flynn retorted.
Edward replied by cocking his gun and re-aiming it at Jacob’s occipital bone.
Defeated, Flynn rolled his sleeves up a little and studied the characters on the statue’s stomach. After a few moments, he smiled. “M...E,” he said as he touched two symbols. The symbols glowed, then the whole stomach section glowed around the edges and retreated into the statue with a bright flash, revealing the spear blade. “Me, god is within us all,” Flynn explained.
The monk who had greeted them smiled and nodded at Flynn as Edward released Jacob and made his way up to the blade. Flynn, wanting to pull a fast one on Edward, stood up in resignation. “Go ahead, take it.” He winked to Jacob, who looked about ready to take out all the Serpent Brotherhood around him.
Edward about fell for it, going so far as to reach his hand just across the threshold of the compartment, but then he stood up and looked at Flynn. “No, you take it,” Edward commanded. Flynn, not wanting to show his concern, did so, but his hesitation gave him away. “Problem?”
Flynn shook his head, and proceeded to pull the blade out quickly, with no ill effects. That’s not right. Edward swiped the blade from him as Flynn glanced around the room in confusion.
“Lars, fly up here now, track my signal,” Edward said into a walkie talkie, staring at the blade in his hand like he just had the world handed to him. Just then, the statute started to descend into the floor.
“About time,” Flynn told the statue as a gong sounded, and the temple started shaking.
Things descended into chaos. The monks took advantage of it, targeting the Serpent Brotherhood. Jacob grabbed the blade from Edward after elbowing him in the stomach, then grabbed Flynn’s arm and dragged him through the chaos, though they had to get past enemies first...or rather, Jacob took care of them quickly in a similar yet different style than the monks were using around them.
Seeing their escape, Edward blocked their path. “Give me the spear!”
Jacob took the blade in his hand and chucked it across the room into the chaos.
“Noo! Get the spear!” Edward roared, pushing past them into the room.
Jacob continued leading Flynn out of the collapsing temple, ignoring his “but the blade!” until they were outside.
“Hold on, we have to get the spear piece,” Flynn said as soon as they stopped.
Jacob pulled out the blade in the sheath built into his boot. “If you wanna hide something, you do it in plain sight.”
The monk that had first greeted them ran up to them. “The spear must be protected.”
“Master-” Jacob started, but the man held up a hand to stop his sentence.
“Protect it. You cannot fight a crowd alone, Jacob. We will rebuild. Do your duty.”
Jacob looked like he had more to say, but he just nodded, grabbed Flynn’s wrist, and ran off to the helicopter that had just conveniently landed on the lawn.
---
With their new helicopter, they flew towards the nearest blip of civilization that was big enough to have a hotel, and promptly booked themselves a room. Flynn didn’t blink an eye at sharing a room, but he gawked when the manager informed them there was only one bed.
“It’s not like we didn’t just spend a week in each other’s company. Any bed is better than camping outside again, and I don’t want to let you out of my sight when they’re still lookin’ for us,” Jacob said. He then thanked the manager and took the room key, expecting Flynn to follow him to the elevator, which he did.
The room itself was fine. Flynn claimed the bathroom first, hoping the warm shower and scrubbing off a week’s worth of grime would let him fall asleep quickly. Eventually he forced himself out of the shower so Jacob could use it.
Just as Jacob stepped into the bathroom, the tv turned itself on. Judson was in the screen. “Mr. Carson.”
“Judson! You and everyone at the Library can completely relax. We have the third piece of the spear right,” he paused to dig under the bed to retrieve it, “right here. Completely safe.”
Judson nodded in approval. “Good work. I still can’t believe that Wilde joined the Serpent Brotherhood. He was a fine Librarian. Thank goodness we have a…a better one now.” Flynn wiggled a little where he was sitting on the bed, savoring the praise. “Get some rest, and return to the Library as soon as possible,” Judson said, and then the tv turned off, ending the conversation.
Once Judson’s image fizzled out, Flynn let himself lay down on the bed, the left side when looking at the bed, leaving more than enough room for Jacob to sleep on. His back ached at the soft mattress after several nights of sleeping on the ground, so he shifted around until he was on his side, back facing the edge of the bed. He was exhausted, but of course his brain didn’t want to rest quite yet, so he laid there, staring at the wall, trying to process his past week. He did his best to ignore the steam curling from under the bathroom door, to not think about how he'd rather be back in that shower, listening to that southern voice sing some country song without a door and a shower curtain between them.
And then all thoughts of anything ceased to be at the forefront of his brain when Jacob walked out of the muggy bathroom, only pajama bottoms on, towel draped around his neck. And of course, Flynn's mouth acted of its own accord. “You're not wearing a shirt.”
Jacob looked at him, thought a moment, and then said, in a rather gravelly voice, “No, I'm not. Accidentally left it out here.” He nodded at the shirt still sitting on top of the dresser.
“Hmm, was it truly an accident?” Flynn asked. And then he processed those words and sat up quickly. “I'm sorry, uh, I-”
“Do you want it to be on purpose?” Jacob asked. He kept eye contact with Flynn as he ran the towel through his damp hair slowly. “‘Cuz it could've been.”
“Uh, well, um,” said Flynn eloquently.
Jacob chuckled. “You sure have a way with words, Flynn.”
“Well, you make it hard to think,” Flynn retorted. He meant it to be a jab, but it just came out as a compliment.
“Do I now?” Jacob said with a smirk. He slowly walked over to the side of the bed Flynn was sitting. “Tell me, Flynn, what would you like to do right now?”
With Jacob’s solid body right in front of him, and the way he was practically purring Flynn’s name, it took a couple tries for Flynn to get words to work. “Right now? I, uh, I…”
“Would you rather show me?” Jacob asked, leaning down at the hips so his face was level with Flynn’s. Flynn nodded, and didn’t stop nodding until his face pressed against Jacob’s. Jacob kissed him for a moment, then pulled away, smiling at the way Flynn tried to follow him. “Hold on, now. Why don’t we get into a more comfortable position, hmm?” Flynn nodded yet again, but Jacob got him to stop by gently holding his jaw with one hand, the other stabilizing himself as he straddled Flynn’s hips. “There, now how ‘bout you go on and lay down,” he instructed, giving Flynn little kisses all the way down.
Flynn couldn’t restrain himself now that Jacob was above him; his hand went for Jacob’s torso, feeling the lines of muscle there. “I’ve been wanting to do that since the waterfall,” Flynn admitted.
“Have you, now? Well, don’t be shy,” Jacob muttered, leaning down to let his mouth explore Flynn more.
---
While they could’ve been more well-rested, they woke up the next morning to sun seeping through the curtains, a little stiff in places that hadn’t been sore the night before. Jacob was lazily carding his fingers through Flynn’s hair, where his head still laid on the Guardian’s chest. Once Flynn had savored the memories of the night before, his mind was on to more questions about the Guardian’s past. “How long did you train at Shangri-La?”
Jacob’s hand hesitated a moment before it resumed its path through Flynn’s bedhead. “A couple months, near soon as the Library hired me.”
Flynn traced the lines of Jacob’s torso. “Where else did you train? Your form was...unique.”
“There’s a lot to be learned from bar brawls and school yard fights,” Jacob said, hand moving down Flynn’s neck to his shoulders, making the Librarian shivver. “I had more than my fair share of them.”
For awhile they enjoyed each other’s touch in silence, but eventually Flynn’s curiosity returned. “What did Edward mean when he said you hated magic?”
Now Jacob’s hand stopped moving. “I don’t...Edward liked usin’ it, to save the day, he said. I hated that he did that. Magic is...it’s dangerous, and power corrupts. It’s the reason the Library exists, to keep it out of the hands of those who want to wreak havoc.”
Flynn turned his head so he was looking at Jacob, as much as he could anyway. “Was he always...how he is now?”
Jacob looked away in thought. “I never thought so, I mean, sure, he was headstrong, but his heart was in the right place, or ‘least I thought it was.”
“Were you two...close?”
“No, he, well, he didn’t even know about me,” Jacob said. He still wasn’t looking at Flynn.
“Well, I don’t know about you, but I think breakfast...or maybe lunch is in order,” Flynn said, sitting up.
Jacob looked back at Flynn, smiling, but he still seemed distant. “Sounds great.”
They got dressed and made their way to a cafe just down the street from the hotel, spear blade safely sheathed in Jacob’s boot. They ate their food and coffee in a politely ravenous manner, earning a couple glances from other patrons.
“Have you published anything?” Flynn asked Jacob out of the blue.
“What?” Jacob said around a mouthful.
“Any papers, books? I know the way you talked about the language of the birds sounded familiar, but I’ve read countless essays and articles and books to pin down the specific ones I’m thinking of that sounded like you. I mean you had to have done it under a pen name-”
Jacob held up his hand to get Flynn to quiet. “I have, under pen names,” Jacob answered, emphasizing the plural.
Flynn did not want to let this go. He racked his mind, temporarily ignoring his food. “Was Dr. Oliver Thompson one of them?”
Jacob huffed, more amused than annoyed. “Yup.” Just as he took another bite, a sizeable dart sunk into his neck.
“Jacob!” Flynn half shouted, shooting up from his chair. Jacob stood up too, albeit slower than Flynn, and he swayed a little on his feet.
Jacob pulled the dart out, looking around, but his head turned too slowly to really cover the area. “Flynn, run,” he slurred, somehow still standing. Flynn instinctively backed up, just in time for some Serpent Brotherhood brutes to descend on Jacob, who then finally passed out.
Flynn was torn; Jacob told him to run, and he wanted to, but he didn’t wanna leave Jacob. He didn’t get much time to think as the men dragged the unconscious Guardian over to a truck, and sped off. It was then that Flynn realized the blade was still in Jacob’s boot, though the mercenaries didn’t seem to know that as they had taken Flynn’s messenger bag too, not that it would do them any good. Freaking out, Flynn ran down the street in the direction the truck had gone, but there was no way he was going to catch them by foot. He stopped to catch his breath conveniently near another tv.
“Flynn, what’s wrong?” Judson asked. He was sitting in a chair, unlike yesterday’s magical video call.
“Jacob, they took him, a tranquilizer dart, they have the spear, the Serpent Brotherhood took him,” Flynn rambled.
“Alright, alright, not all is lost. It took a great power to split the spear, and it’ll take even more to fuse the pieces together again,” Judson said.
“How much?”
“Well, mysticism aside, you’ll need a local electromagnetic field registering over fifteen on the Shoum scale,” Judson explained.
“Okay, good,” Flynn said, nodding and pacing a little. “The only time that kind of energy’s ever been registered was during a peak full moon at the great pyramid, when it had its capstone. The Egyptian government refuses to replace the-” Flynn had an epiphany “-capstone. Next peak full moon is tomorrow night. Call the marines, Judson, I’m coming home.”
---
That night, New York time, Flynn sneaked up to a service entrance of the museum where just a few weeks ago, he had been working with Professor Harris. He tried busting down the door, but only gave himself a bruised shoulder.
“Flynn,” Judson said, startling him, “we can get in through the ventilation system.”
“Where are the marines?” Flynn asked, looking around.
Judson pulled back the collar of his shirt revealing a small tattoo of the eagle, globe and anchor. “Semper fi.”
“You were a marine,” Flynn said, to which Judson nodded. Flynn had no idea how they were going to get Jacob and the spear, just the two of them. “Good, good.”
“Well now, let’s get that spear back.”
They snuck in, through the ventilation system, and approached the gathering of the Serpent Brotherhood gathering around the scale pyramid from the second floor. Flynn spotted an annoyingly familiar face. “Well well well, Professor Harris. I should’ve known he was evil. He gave me an A minus.”
Edward stepped out of the pyramid, spear pieces in hand. His two main henchman-hench people...the bald one and the lady, stepped out from behind him, Jacob in tow with hands bound behind him. “Serpent Brothers, our dream comes true tonight,” Edward addressed the gathering.
“Doesn’t that guy ever die,” Flynn whispered to Judson.
“We call down the power of the gods, the ancient ones,” Edward said, lifting the pieces up. Then, from the capstone, the pyramid lit up, blue energy coursing down to the base and back up like a scanner before flashing at the capstone. Edward and the people on the stairs with him, Jacob included, went into the pyramid replica as the others outside started chanting, led by Professor Harris no less.
Judson and Flynn made their way to the first floor, hiding behind a large stone head. There’s just too many of them. “I can’t do this alone,” Flynn whispered.
“Well, you got me,” Judson said.
“No offence, Judson, but you’re-” Flynn was interrupted by Judson slamming a patrolling guard’s face into the stone. “You bad mother.”
“I was a Librarian too, you know,” Judson said, and then sneaked off to get a better position on the crowd waiting for Edward. Flynn, knowing all the entrances of the pyramid best, decided to sneak in there because Edward was up to no good.
Flynn’s suspicions were confirmed when he got in there just in time to see Edward stab the bald guy with the newly repaired spear, and consume his soul before throwing him into the magical field created by the capstone. He was about to do the same to Jacob too, but Flynn was not about to let that happen.
“Dying by the very thing you hate, how fitting,” Edward said, and started towards Jacob, spear aimed at his stomach, but Flynn jumped out and tackled Edward before it could touch Jacob. The Guardian looked at Flynn in surprise, and promptly followed him out of the pyramid, only to be greeted by the crowd waiting on Edward. “Kill,” Edward commanded, then went back into the pyramid. The lady followed him.
Seeing Jacob needed his hands, Flynn undid the handcuffs. “Ha, Houdini, Prague, nineteen twenty six,” Flynn said as he threw the cuffs away.
Just then Judson joined them. “We have to get the spear back to the Library,” he said, which prompted the crowd to attack them. Judson went straight to work, taking down several men. Flynn glanced to Jacob, who was gawking just as much as Flynn was. “Get the spear away from Wilde, before he gets too powerful,” Judson commanded. Knowing he wasn’t much good in a fight, Flynn sprinted into the pyramid.
Professor Harris stepped out in front of Flynn, so Flynn used his momentum to break his nose. “You...you broke my nose!” the professor said, blood dripping. “How dare you Flynn!”
“Yeah, I did what you said,” Flynn mocked, grabbing the professor by his jacket. “I learned a few things in the big, bad, real world!” He turned the professor around and gave him a good kick, sending him down the stairs to the floor. Flynn couldn’t get farther into the pyramid though, as the lady came out, gun pointed at him.
“It doesn’t have to be this way,” she said, voice disturbingly gentle despite the chaos around them. “We’re gonna rule the world. We can be together.”
Flynn blinked at her in confusion and fear, but thankfully Jacob had been paying more attention and ran up and decked her square in the temple. “Get your own geek,” he growled. Flynn moved past her on the floor, going up to Jacob, grinning. Jacob nodded towards the doorway, and Flynn ran inside.
Edward was standing just at the edge of the energy field. “It’s too late Flynn. The power of the spear is MINE!” He backhanded Flynn with inhuman strength, sending the Librarian into the nearby wall head first. Blood trickled out of gash above Flynn’s temple. He felt it, just a surface wound, but head wounds always bleed a lot.
Edward stalked over to him. “You’re the best they could come up with?” He then went to stab Flynn with the spear, but Flynn rolled out of the way, letting the spear impact the stone right where he had been. Edward pushed it back a couple inches with the force of his jab. Flynn barely got to his feet before Edward was swiping at him. In his backpedalling, Flynn tripped over rubble. “You’re too clumsy to even die properly!” Edward snarled, spear in one hand ready to throw. Flynn scrambled backwards into the wall, then promptly rolled out of the way.
Just then Flynn realized which stones Edward had shoved back. So he ran to the next corner, Edward trailing him. Edward caught him with the butt of the spear, recovered, and did what Flynn wanted on the third cornerstone.
After Edward hit the fourth cornerstone, Flynn was just beat up enough that he couldn’t get away quick enough. He got roundhouse kicked in the jaw, sending him dazed into a pillar. Edward then took him by the throat and hoisted him up like Flynn weighed nothing.
“Goodbye Librarian,” Edward said, and tossed Flynn towards the energy field, which promptly dissipated as soon as Flynn neared it.
“If even one of the support stones are off even by an inch,” Flynn said, struggling to get to his feet, “the whole pyramid collapses.” He picked up a bit of rubble already crumbling in his hand. “I’d say this was out of alignment.”
“I will destroy you!” Edward roared.
“You never will!” Flynn retorted. “You know why? Because the things that make life worth living can’t be thought here-” he smacked Edward under the chin with the rubble in his hand “-they must be felt here!” Flynn sent Edward stumbling back with a forceful blow to the sternum, enough to put him just under the capstone. And just as Flynn predicted, the capstone came crashing down onto Edward, finally killing the previous Librarian. The spear, undamaged, flew to Flynn’s hands.
Outside, Judson and Jacob had taken care of all the other Serpent Brotherhood people, leaving mess of bodies on the floor. “I believe this belongs to the Library,” Flynn said, using the spear for more support to stand than he’d like to admit.
Jacob didn’t seem to care, he was looking at Flynn with a proud smile...and maybe a bit of bedroom eyes, but Flynn couldn’t be certain considering he did hit his head.
---
Three Months Later
Flynn had taken his mother out for a brunch at a café, where of course she was trying to set him up with the three ladies at a nearby table. “Flynn is a librarian now, but he’s capable of so much more. He just needs the right woman to push him.”
“Mom, you don’t understand. Being a Librarian is actually a pretty cool job,” Flynn said. He leaned towards her a little. “And you don’t need to keep trying to fix me up, I told you that.”
His mom seemed a little taken aback at his bluntness, but brushed it off. “This mysterious J, never quite around to meet the mother, or even have a real first name.”
“I told you, it’s their first initial,” Flynn said, a bit exasperated. “Well, it’s complicated.”
Just then, a motorcycle jumped a potted hedge, drove right into the middle of café patio, and stopped right at their table. Flynn’s mother was shocked, but Flynn looked cool as a cucumber, though in his head he was battling the sudden rush of adrenaline.
Jacob pulled his full-face helmet off, smirking at Flynn. “Hey there, handsome,” Jacob said as Flynn stood up to greet him via a kiss. His mom gasped, making Flynn remember that he should introduce Jacob and not stand there thinking about how stupidly sexy the leather jacket looked on his Guardian.
“Jacob, this is my mother,” Flynn said, forcing his gaze to his mother for a brief moment.
“Pleasure to meet you Mrs. Carsen,” Jacob drawled, putting on that stupidly charming smile of his (it took all of Flynn’s self-control not to kiss it off his face) and offering Flynn’s mother his hand.
“Oh no, the pleasure is mine,” Mrs. Carsen said, taking his hand, which he then brought up to his lips to give a polite kiss on her knuckles before letting her hand go. She looked thoroughly charmed.
Jacob then looked at Flynn. “The Deadly Scorpion League has found H. G. Well’s time machine. We’re the only ones who can get it back.”
“Deadly Scorpion League, what is it with these bad guys and insect names for clubs,” Flynn said, a bit exasperated. Then he looked to his mother. “Mom, I get going,” he leaned down to give her a kiss on the cheek, “see you soon.” He then got on the back of Jacob’s motorcycle, though he narrowed his eyes at the grin on Jacob’s face. “You’re smiling...why are you smiling?”
“Oh, deadly time-travelling ninjas out to kill us,” Jacob said like he was describing the color of the plates on the table.
Flynn shook his head. “Just a normal day at work,” he said, smiling as he put on the spare helmet. Once Flynn had secured his arms around Jacob’s waist, the Guardian sped off into the street, said ninjas hot on their tail.
-----
Apparently I just needed some more Flynnstone, because I had seriously thought my first Librarians fic for 2019 was going to be another Jazekiel one, or another installment on my Land Pirate AU. Though it wasn’t near as original as my other stuff, considering I used dialog and scenes directly from the movie. Oh well, whatever gets me out of my writing slump I guess!
I always pictured Stone as one of those “on the fence” characters, where he had the ability to be either a Guardian or Librarian with his skillset and personality. That’s probably why I wanted to play with him being a Guardian. Also, I wanted to play around with Stone’s history more, mainly giving him access to the Library earlier in his life. I didn’t think he actually went to college, so he did all his degrees online or something because of the aliases he used, but wiki says Stone went to college so idk. Mainly, my thinking is if Stone actually went to a college in person...he wouldn’t go back to oil rigging and he’d be a professor instead ( see “And the Happily Ever Afters” where that was his dream job).

Chapter 1| Chapter 2| Chapter 3| Chapter 4| Chapter 5| Chapter 6
It has been two weeks since the incident and (Y/N) was already sort of forgetting what happened. Nikki decided that in order to help (Y/N) forget what happen, they should go down to the family beach house and have some fun together. (Y/N) was finishing with her packing when Tom came into the room wearing a tank top and khaki shorts. “You ready to go and do you have your passport as well?” Tom asks, she nods her head and he picks up the bags for her. “Why do I need my passport?” (Y/N) questions the young man. “We are going to take the private jet out and since it is your first time going on it they need your passport,” Tom answers. She nods her head in understanding, of course the wealthiest family in England would have a private jet and a beach house somewhere else. “Where is it anyways?” (Y/N) inquires whilst they both walk to the cars.   “Santa Monica, California. We have a nice beach house along the coast,” he explains. “(Y/N), honey, can you go in the car with Tom, Harry, and Harrison?” Nikki asks her. “Yeah, that’s fine. I call shotgun!” (Y/N) screams as she puts her finger on her nose. Tom chuckles beside (Y/N) and puts her language in the back of the car, there was one other car for whatever language didn’t fit in the two other cars. Everyone got into the car they were told to be in, and then it was time to go to the airport.
(Y/N) puts on “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran for the car ride, she starts singing along and saw that Tom looked over from the corner of her eyes with a big smile on his face. Half way through the song, Tom joins in and then Harry and Harrison decide they want to sing as well. Once the song finish, the next one came on and they all stop singing together. “You are a pretty good singer Tom, did you know that?” she compliments him. “Thanks, you’re not so bad yourself,” Tom accepts the compliment as he looks back at the road. The car ride was short with nice conversation between the four young adults and before they knew it, they were on the jet having a great time together. “We only have five rooms in at the beach house, so Harrison and Tom will share a room and Harry you’ll share a room with Sam. (Y/N) and Paddy will have their own rooms,” Nikki informs while she places a Uno card on top of the pile. Paddy, Nikki, and (Y/N) were playing a game together whilst the other boys talked business. “Why do I have to share a room with that div?” Tom complains while pointing at Harrison. “Because (Y/N) is our guest and she is the only girl amongst you boys; Paddy is the youngest and needs his privacy as a growing boy. You guys got your privacy while you went through puberty, now it is Paddy’s turn,” Nikki explains to her eldest son.
Once they got to the beach house, everyone went to their assigned rooms and started to unpack. (Y/N) got the nicest room, other than the master suite; it was the only room on the third floor and had a nice view of the ocean. The modern four post bed with curtains was facing the balcony and ocean view on the back wall in the middle of the room. To the right was the bathroom and a walk in clothes; in between the two was a sitting area with a fireplace and a TV on top of it. The left side of the room had a desk and was lined with book cases; it was absolutely stunning and (Y/N) could not believe she got it for herself. She started unpacking her bag into the walk in clothes and she couldn’t wait to take a look at some of the books. After she finished unpacking her stuff, (Y/N) went out to the balcony to take in some fresh air. Tom knocks at the door, after he too finished unpacking, he saw her on the balcony and he couldn’t help but admire her beauty. He went to join her when she didn’t answer in order to get an answer for what he came for, “Hey, my mom was wondering if you wanted to go shopping for a dress with her tomorrow?” “For the Yule Ball in a week?” she asks while looking out to the ocean. Tom nods his head indicating that the dress shopping would in fact be for the event in a week. “Yeah, I would love to go with her,” (Y/N) informs him with excitement because she loves spending time with her. “That’s great! BTW, the family is throwing a bon fire tonight and you are invited,” Tom invites. She nods her head and Tom goes downstairs to tell his mother.
In the afternoon, they go down to the beach to have fun and to start setting up for the bon fire. (Y/N) is lying down on a towel reading a book whilst Tom and his brothers play ball in the water.  Nikki and Dom are the only ones actually setting up, so (Y/N) figures she could maybe help them. “Hey, do you need any help?” (Y/N) offers her help. “No, sweetie, it’s okay. You can just relax, we have some people coming later to help us,” she explains. (Y/N) was going back to her towel when out of nowhere a ball hit her head then someone yells, “Heads!” “Don’t you think it’s kind of too late for that,” she retorts back as she picks up the ball and walks over to the boys. “You got to admit it was pretty funny,” Tom laughs. “Hahaha, let’s see how you like it,” she mocks then throws the ball at his head. The ball doesn’t hit him and they all just laugh, instead Harry picks up the ball then throws the ball at his head. He flinches, but then looks over at (Y/N) and smirks at her. “I think it is time for you to come in the water. Don’t you think boys?” Tom inquires. He starts walking over to (Y/N) and once she realizes what he was going to do, she starts to run away from the boy. Tom chases her around for a bit till they were both a laughing mess on the floor. Seeing this as an opportunity, Tom runs to put her over his shoulder, then makes his way over to the water. He slowly lies her down into the water, so that she is completely drench in water. “Tom!” she squeals in delight as they both start laughing. His family and Harrison are watching this scene unravel, Nikki knew that the young adults were most definitely in love with each other which made her smile at the two. Everyone watching could tell that they both liked each other, but don’t know it.
(Y/N) is getting ready for the bon fire that already started, she decided that she would wear a flowy romper because it was hot outside. The music coming from the beach could be heard from her room, and from what she could hear the music was great. Once she was ready she put on her sandals and made her way to the beach. Harry greats her as soon as she got to the beach, he hands her a cocktail then goes off to dance with someone. She starts sipping the cocktail and goes over to the bon fire to see Paddy roasting some marshmallows. “Hey, Paddy. Whatcha doing?” the young woman questions. “I’m making s’mores, want some?” he asks while offering her one. “No thank you, maybe later if you are still making them,” she politely declines. With that she goes off to get another drink after finishing the first one.
As the night went on, drink after drink was had by (Y/N) to the point where she was drunk. She was a giggly mess and was dancing with a stranger. “I’m hungry. I think I’m going to go get some s’mores,” she shouts over the music to the stranger. She heads over to the bon fire to see that Paddy was nowhere near the fire and instead Tom was roasting marshmallows with a beer in the other hand. He takes a sip and offers, “Do you want some?” “Yes, please,” she giggles as she touches his arm in a flirty way. “Okay, well one s’more for giggly drunk,” he laughs whilst putting it together. He hands it over to her and she takes a bite of it. She had some chocolate at the corner of her mouth and Tom couldn’t help but think she was adorable. His drunk self-had no self-control over his actions, so he put his hand on her cheek and wiped it off. They both got really giggly and then the giggles stop, so that they were looking into each other’s eyes. They both lean in so that their lips were touching and butterflies erupt in both of their stomachs. The heat between the two could pop popcorn by itself and Tom couldn’t help but smile into the kiss. (Y/N) pulls away because she could not help but giggle, and then the both of them ended up giggling on the floor.
Tom stands up and offers her his hand to help her off the floor. “Come on, I think it is time that you go to bed,” he tells her. “Okay, but don’t tell your mom that I got this drunk. I just wanted to forget,” she giggles as she takes his hand. He brings her to her room and helps her on to the bed. “Can you help me put on my pyjamas? My head hurts,” (Y/N) questions. “Umm, I don’t know. You are pretty drunk, so I don’t know if you really mean it,” he explains. “No, it’s okay. Let’s have sex,” she giggles as she pulls him into a kiss. “I don’t think I could do that. I feel like I would be taking advantage of you,” he clarifies pulling away from the kiss. “Please, I need you. I know you’ll regret it,” the drunk woman whines. “Are you sure?” he interrogates knowing that he would really regret it. Instead of giving him an actual response, she starts unbuttoning his dress shirt very quickly and that was when the passion started.
(Y/N) woke up naked in her bed by herself, but when she looked at the floor she saw that her clothes were not the only ones on the floor. She rubbed her head because of the pounding headed ache that she had after getting drunk last night. She got on her underwear and put on a shirt then went back to bed. The second time she woke up, Tom walked into the room with breakfast on a tray and some pain killers for her head ache. She couldn’t help, but deny that he looked good wearing only his boxers. “Here you go darling. Breakfast just the way you like it,” he says, putting the tray on her lap. “Did we really do that?” she worries. “Yeah, so I was think that maybe we could go on a date tonight?” he requests. “Listen, last night was fun, but it was a one time thing. I say we enjoy breakfast together and then not let this leave this room,” she makes clear. “Come on, I must mean something to you if you were willing to sleep with me,” he returns. “No, you are just a friend. I was drunk and was not thinking. To make you feel better, you didn’t take advantage of me because I told you that I wanted it,” she comforts. Tom not wanting to push her any further on the subject because he knew he needed to give her time in order for her to actually agree to a date. They ate in peaceful silence till Tom realized she was wearing his dress shirt and all he could do was smile at her.

Ship meme
Since no one ever sends me asks, I’ll just answer everything. :D
what is your absolute favorite ship?
Obviously Luke/Leia.
what ship do you hate most?
In Star Wars Reylo. On average, I dislike rivalry pairings. Anything where two characters who canonically hate or dislike each other are inexplicably one of the largest ships in fanon defying all logic. (Harry/Draco, Hermione/Draco, Doctor/Master, Kylo/Rey, etc.)
what was your first ship, and what fandom is it from?
Billy/Kim from the original Power Rangers, probably. Though I like Star Wars before then, I didn’t “ship it.”
explain why do/don’t ship [pairing]
Since I’m answering this for myself, I’m going to go with “do” and “Luke/Leia.” For me, it’s because they’re so good to each other, and for each other. They make each other better people, and that’s always a huge plus for me in pairings I ship. Additionally, they have such an intense connection that I think is just beyond compare to any other pairing--connected through the Force and connected because they’re twins. It makes their relationship able to become so intense and deep.
how did you start shipping [pairing]?
Once again going with Luke/Leia. I shipped them as a kid. I liked Luke and I wanted him to get the girl. I didn’t (and still don’t) understand why Leia would be interested in the scoundrel that constantly belittled her, insulted her, and disrespected her. I always thought that once Luke matured and grew up and dealt with his Daddy Issues he and Leia would hook up (and she’d realize her initial instincts about Han were right). I thought it’d be a really nice growth arc for both of them. When it turned out that they were twins (as an attempt to resolve the love triangle) I thought, as a kid, that it wasn’t a good enough reason for them not to be together since they were clearly the healthier pair... and turns out I still feel that way.
is there a ship that you used to ship, but don’t anymore?
There are ships that I  used to be passionate about a lot but which I’m not super passionate about anymore, but I don’t know if there are any that I stopped shipping... Maybe Willow/Oz from Buffy. Not because I don’t think they were great together (they’re still one of my favorite pairings) but because canonically they broke up and Willow came out as a lesbian, which makes me still shipping Willow/Oz... complicated.
what’s a ship you like that most people don’t?
lol... Luke/Leia? I also liked Kirk/McCoy from the TOS which is uncommon among Spock/Kirk and Spock/McCoy shippers, I guess.
what’s a ship you hate that most people like?
Tenth Doctor/Rose. Also, every ship listed in “what ship do you hate most?”
what is the most underrated ship, in your opinion?
LUKE/LEIA. I get why it’s not huge ship in the face of Han/Leia, but the fact that it’s so small is really baffling to me. I think if Star Wars came out today it’d be a much bigger ship.
what is the most overrated ship, in your opinion?
Of all time? I have no idea... Reylo is definitely up there. Maybe the Twilight characters.... all of them....
do you prefer [pairing] as an otp, brotp, or notp?
Ugh, some of these are so hard to do on my own lol. Pass. Feel free to send me an ask if you have a specific pairing for this you want to ask.
why do you think [pairing] is so popular?
I’ll go with “Reylo” for this. Honestly, I wish I knew. Han/Leia I think is popular because Harrison Ford is attractive and Carrie Fisher is attractive, so they’re easy to see together. Men can self-insert into Han and “get the girl” and women can self-insert into Leia and “get the hot dude.” And since they’re canon it’s handed to you on a silver plate (so long as you don’t think too hard about it)... Reylo... idk. Daisy is attractive, but Adam Driver is not. But I guess he’s attractive enough for lots of people to want him? I think there’s a large group of women out there that into the “bad boy” (as evidenced by the popularity of stuff like Hermione/Draco, Twilight, 50 Shades, etc.). They’re all permutations of the same thing. For some reason that stuff is popular, and I think Reylo is a variant on that... It has no basis in canon (just like Hermione/Draco), but the fans want to see their self-insert save the bad boy, and maybe be corrupted into sexual funtimes as well. I’m sure someone’s written a dissertation on it. Maybe the women want to be corrupted in order to be allowed to enjoy their sexuality since society tends to give women shit for being sexually promiscuous. I honestly have no idea.... everything about Reylo is vile to me.
why do you think [pairing] isn’t popular?
I’ll go with Luke/Leia here. I’d say is 1 part “ewww incest”, 1 part “but Han/Leia are canon!!!!111″ and 1 part “Luke is a whiny gayboy.”
rate [pairing] from 1-10 and explain why
Ugh, pass. Feel free to send in an ask for a pairing if you want.
what’s your favorite headcanon of [pairing]?
I’ll go with Luke/Leia. I have so many headcanons... A favorite for me is that they both feel like they’ve been searching for “something” all their lives and that “something” is their other half/twin, and they’re constantly trying to feel whole. One of the only times they really feel whole is when they make love together.
what’s your favorite canon moment of [pairing]?
Going with Luke/Leia again. So many great moments. My choice would probably change any day of the week... but the one that immediately comes to mind is just the moment on the Death Star II when Vader threatens Leia and that’s what pushes Luke over the edge. (But I also love all the soft touches between them--Leia kissing him on the Falcon after he loses his hand on Bespin, and the way her body presses into him at the Endor party after he sees the ghosts.)
favorite AU ideas for [pairing]?
Luke/Leia again. Lots of AU ideas, but one I’ve thought about a lot is the timeline had extended just a bit--Luke and Ben got dropped of on Alderaan before it was destroyed and Luke and Leia could’ve met in a more natural (but still serious about-to-go-to-war setting). Luke trained as a Jedi on Alderaan under Obi-Wan, Luke and Leia got to become friends (with Bail and Obi-Wan freaking out about whether or not they should tell them the Truth), and then Plot happening to prevent it. Also Han gets his money on Alderaan and goes and pays Jabba and lives happily ever after.
rant about [pairing]
Send me a pairing if you want, but I can’t go off on nothing.
what’s a meme/quote that reminds you of [pairing]?
Send me a pairing, but I’m really, really bad about stuff like this.
what song(s) remind you of [pairing]?
Did I mention I’m really, really bad about stuff like this? Don’t send me this one, I won’t have an answer, not even for LL.
what kind of dates do you think [pairing] would go on?
For Luke/Leia it would depending on whether other people knew they’re twins and/or if other people know if incest is super taboo. In a perfect world, I think they’d do sweet dates... like strawberry picking or the space equivalent. I’m sure occasionally they’d go to trendy restaurants and stuff, but I think they’d both be most happy at like... a farmer’s market, dancing around the hay bales, buying fresh roasted corn, sharing a shaved ice, maybe a little ice skating, etc. Simple life after the war.
realistically, do you think [non-canon pairing] will ever be canon? why or why not?
Let’s go with Reylo. No. I really don’t. There’s no way. It’s unsatisfying on every level, and narrative makes no sense. If they wanted Kylo to have a redemption arc, they blew it with The Last Jedi. The ending of that movie is Rey running into Finn’s arms, so the only realistic romantic that could happen in IX is Finnrey.
have you ever written fanfiction/drawn fanart of [pairing]? would you consider it?
For Luke/Leia, yes. Yes, I have. I’ved posted most of the art I’ve drawn of them under #my art, though I’ve only done like... three pieces.
any other questions?
Feel free to send any in if you have any.

Part 7: stranded
More here: @aliens-and-shiz
Dr. Anne Harrison hated small spaces. But, when an enemy is gonna roast you and the people you work with, you make do.
God I hope mom got that message. Fuck that was a bad first test tho. Ten years of travel and I barely even finished it.
“Hey, Anne.”
She was wrenched from her mind, into reality.
“Yeah, Imani? What’s up?” She replied.
“Do you think Xu finished his FTL drive yet or are we gonna be stuck out here and have to engage hibernation for 10 years again?”
Fuck. I forgot she still loved that genius. “I don’t know. I mean, Alpha-Zero-Theta was a lot more than just faster than light travel. It’s also a possibility of weaponizing black holes. That’s what Mom needs to do to beat those fuckers. Unless the Plutonian Science Corps can finish Abbadon, and possibly completely annihilate this whole star system... We don’t stand a chance otherwise.”
Imani’s face drained of color. Fear glossed her eyes over.
“...he never...didn’t tell me... and Project Abbadon...?”
“If you don’t know about it I’ve said too much... But, you cant deny, Alpha-zero-theta would be the most devastating weapon conceived yet in the history of humanity... almost as much as project Abbadon... Imani. You never heard any of it. It’s top secret. Same with you two Carlos and Uri.”
Uri spoke next. “I knew all about it. Remember I went to Oxford with that fucktard. He knew he wouldn’t get funding from the United Solar Federation otherwise. I’m sorry Imani.”
She began sobbing. “...I wouldn’t... couldn’t... wish that type of death on anyone... to be tortured for eternity... it’s unbearable to imagine...”
The escape pod communications lit up, a song from over a hundred years ago began playing. Goddamnit that bastard did it. Nobody else would make an entrance with this song. “Goddamn you Xu!”
The speaker hissed “...nice to see you too Anne. Is anyone...”
“GODDAMNIT XU IM GONNA FUCKING KILL YOU!” Imani interrupted.
“...that’s a yes then. Don’t know why you’re gonna kill me since I’m here to save you’re sorry ass...”
“YOU LIED TO ME YOU BASTARD!!!”
“...You guys are gonna get sucked into the hangar bay so prepare for a jolt, and someone please keep my ex-wife away from me...”
Everyone started laughing, except Imani. They’re saved. The past ten years finally paid off.

10 Best Movies of 2019 (So Far)
With the summer movie season winding down, we look back at the top 10 films cinema has had to offer this far into 2019.
Tumblr media
The summer movie season of 2019 is over. While the heat continues to swelter, and school by and large remains out, the final weekend of new Hollywood blockbuster extravaganzas has sped off the scene like a getaway car. And given the box office receipts for most of the studio tentpoles this year, we imagine the whole industry is ready to put the summer behind them. Be that as it may, cinema remains strong, hence why we think is the perfect time to look back on the year so far. While many others like to take stock of the movie calendar at the literal halfway mark that occurs at the end of June, we prefer letting the biggest moviegoing season to wrap up and only start reflecting during the deep breath before film festivals like TIFF and Telluride kick off the awards season. Indeed, you’ll see below that this July and August have been unusually fruitful. Looking back at the first seven-plus months of 2019 reveals that, for whatever box office hand-wringing, it’s already been a promising time for new voices making an impact and legendary auteurs communicating with the changing filmmaking landscape. So without further ado, please join us in celebrating the top 10 movies of 2019. So far.

10. The Peanut Butter Falcon
Tall tales and the myths they build can be stronger than any river current in the American South. Many of the best works of fiction from that part of the country embrace such grandiosity, and The Peanut Butter Falcon is no exception. An infinitely sweet film populated with outsized personalities, directors Tyler Nilson and Mike Schwartz’s transcendentalist adventure was one of the biggest surprises out of SXSW earlier this year, and months later it still radiates an authentic breezy charm. Very much a modern day Huckleberry Finn for those labeled as disabled or special needs, the film crafts its own legend around Zak (Zack Gottsagen), a young man with Down Syndrome that society wishes to forget. Save for Eleanor (Dakota Johnson), his concerned doctor at the retirement home the state abandoned him in, no one really cares when Zak escapes to chase his dream of becoming a professional wrestler. Yet a dispiriting prologue gives way to the loveliest journey as Zak befriends Tyler (Shia LaBeouf) and hitches a ride with the good ol’ boy on a raft floating down the North Carolina Outer Banks. It’s a movie happily supplied with homespun love and wonderfully textured characters, including all three leads, among whom LaBeouf proves nigh unrecognizable as the reluctant Good Samaritan by way of Mark Twain’s St. Petersburg.
Tumblr media
9. Luce
The best movies provoke discussion, and few this year will be as challenging as the conversations borne by director Julius Onah and screenwriter J.C. Lee’s Luce. A film based on Lee’s own play, the movie interrogates the idea of the American Dream and wonders if even when it comes true, how much of that is a manipulation by those who espouse skepticism of it. The film is about a star athlete and valedictorian named Luce (Kelvin Harrison Jr.). Actually, Luce was just what his parents (Naomi Watts and Tim Roth) made up after they adopted him from a war-torn African nation, unable to pronounce his birth name. Even so, he very much is their son and not only the apple of their eye, but that of his whole school. Perhaps this is why his teacher, Ms. Harriet Wilson (Octavia Spencer), holds him to a different standard than his other African American peers. It’s a story about a school-sized tinderbox of good intentions that threatens to ignite after Harriet finds illegal fireworks in Luce’s locker, all of which bubbles with the tension of a thriller even as it plays like a truth-searching drama. Luce is a Rorschach Test for both the characters and audiences to examine their own racial biases, and the hypocrisy of expectations. Nevertheless, the film exceeds ours.
Tumblr media
8. Avengers: Endgame
It would be easy in more cynical circles to shrug off Avengers: Endgame as the ultimate fan service movie, and in fact it is. But after 11 years of world-building, and the even more impressive franchise-building occurring outside of its continuity, Marvel Studios’ 22nd installment is the grandest of commercial and long-form narrative achievements. By making a series finale to all the movies that came before it, including the cliffhanger in Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and his legion of collaborators, most notably directors Joe and Anthony Russo, and Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr., find the rare quality that most eludes traditional television storytellers: a fully satisfying ending. At three hours, Avengers: Endgame rises above almost anything else Marvel has ever produced and acts as a pseudo-manifesto for the studio. While many of the parts are lesser than the whole, the tight storytelling and tonal consistency over nearly two dozen films pays off with the kind of multi-tiered catharsis and spectacle that drives global moviegoers into theaters by the tens of millions. Not since the days of Cecil B. DeMille has there been an epic so brimming with familiar faces, but unlike the overstuffed Infinity War, this showmanship is wrapped in a bow of gracefulness. This is the ultimate Marvel Studios movie. With a renewal of the charisma and humanity Downey first brought to this enterprise, there is a creative spark shining bright here… and that leaves open the question of how Marvel can possibly repeat this high-note, both in terms of heart and gross, ever again.
Tumblr media
7. Toy Story 4
Toy Story 4 didn't need to be made. The ending of 2010’s Toy Story 3 was the perfect conclusion to a saga that began the day a child named Andy first played with a cowboy doll called Woody. Yet we’re so glad that Toy Story 4 exists, as Pixar discovered a soulful epilogue to the characters who first made the studio the preeminent animation house of the 21st century. Essentially a coda to an already finished yarn, Pixar’s elegant solution to being required to return to the childhood daydream of Woody and Buzz Lightyear is to permanently wrap-up their shared journey in the most adult of ways. On the surface, this is another story about Woody (Tom Hanks) trying to teach a wayward toy its purpose, in this case a do-it-yourself Frankenstein’s Monster named Forky (Tony Hale). But Toy Story 4 raises a much more interesting question about what would make Woody want to move on with his life as a lost toy? Experiencing something akin to a midlife crisis when he crosses paths with old flame Bo Peep (Annie Potts), Woody is asked to change his perspective of what life is meant to be after reaching a certain age, just as a post-John Lasseter Pixar discovers a new and hopefully more inclusive identity. This movie does, after all, finally give Bo Peep depth and a humanity as heart-rending as anything to do with the cowboy that has a snake in his boot. Not bad for characters made of cloth and porcelain.
Tumblr media
6. Midsommar
If you ever wanted a movie to burn down your toxic relationship, Midsommar is gasoline that comes with already lit flames. As Ari Aster’s heartfelt explanation of why some people do not belong together, this Swedish set film turns cult-based horror on its head and reverses everything you might expect from the director of Hereditary. Bringing horror out into the sunshine, Midsommar presents a world that is as shadowless as it is pitiless. Taking place almost entirely during the July rituals of an obscure (and fictional) Pagan commune, the film provides a set of antagonists who might kill you with kindness while displaying an egalitarian empathy as foreign to modern (and selfish) American traditions as their deadlier customs. This creates a striking backdrop to a potent allegory about why Florence Pugh’s Dani and Jack Reynor’s Christian really should have broken up long ago. Pugh is especially haunting as a young woman who’s in a state of perpetual trauma after hanging on to a worn-out band aid in need of tearing for six months. Her harrowing epiphany adds an insidious persuasiveness to cruel machinations that turn cooing Millennial intellectuals into horror’s new dumb American red meat. And the fumes produced by their roasting are quite beautiful, indeed.
Tumblr media
5. The Farewell
Another film about the shock incurred by contrasting cultures, The Farewell is also a gorgeously realized portrait of a woman who feels drawn yet alienated by both sides of her identity. But whatever confusion she might experience is supplanted by an absolute love for her grandmother and the connection that elder represents to an ever-fading past. Writer-director Lulu Wang’s incredibly personal drama is equal parts hilarious and heartbreaking, all while never once making a single false step in its unusual path through grief—one that must be made in total silence. The Farewell centers on Awkwafina’s Billi, a 30-year-old New Yorker who was born in China and was only six when her parents moved to the States, leaving a vague impression of an idyllic childhood with her grandmother Nai Nai (Shuzhen Zhou). However, what exactly this feeling of severed identity means to Billi comes to the surface when Nai Nai is diagnosed with lung cancer… something that her family will not tell her of because in China, it is the family’s emotional burden to carry the knowledge of a seeming death sentence. Believing she only is suffering from a cold, Nai Nai is thrilled that her adult children from America and Japan are returning home for a wedding that is in reality a pretense for everyone to say goodbye—although not Billi. Her parents think she’ll crack and admit this pantomime. Thus she must crash her grandmother’s own living wake. Billi’s saddened homecoming is constantly juxtaposed by her grandmother’s glowing delight to have a full house again. Occupying the space between tragedy and joy, Billi’s Western apprehension to Chinese custom and her longing to reconnect with it, Wang finds a canvas to paint every shade of anguish and exhilaration offered by nostalgia and an unfamiliar heritage. Awkwafina also confirms she is a star on the rise by carrying this intimate tragi-comedy with a role that requires her to speak in English, in Chinese, and most impressively not at all, while still saying everything.
Tumblr media
4. Us
Jordan Peele follows up his directorial debut with another horror movie that will be dissected and debated for a long time to come. More ambitious than Get Out, and arguably the most vividly photographed chiller in ages, Us is bigger but still razor-focused on its subject. A massive allegory about class warfare turning storybook supernatural, Peele imagines a conflict between the haves and have-nots in American society while noting that, at the heart of the matter, they’re the same exact type of people. With a deft touch and sense of humor that is as refreshing as it was in Get Out, Peele introduces audiences to the Wilson family, who have seemingly everything but are still envious of keeping up with the proverbial (white) Joneses. For patriarch Gabe (Winston Duke), this can be accepted as a point of obliviousness, but Lupita Nyong’o’s Adelaide cannot feign such innocence as she has seen the face of want and hunger—it was her own—and she left it to rot. Yet it rises for her again when “Red,” her doppelganger she once spied in a funhouse mirror, comes home with equally twisted doubles of her family. It is a tour de force showcase for Nyong’o, who gives an Oscar-worthy turn as both Adelaide and Red. Us provides a juicy parable as rich as the best Twilight Zone storytelling by Rod Serling that inspired it. The end might overreach, but the breadth of its vision and arm remains an inspiration.
Tumblr media
3. The Last Black Man in San Francisco
You cannot hate a place unless you love it. This is a paradox that Joe Talbot and Jimmie Fails’ The Last Black Man in San Francisco posits with illuminating insight. An epic poem for the modern age of gentrification, this is a movie that focuses on a Bay City whose skyrocketing real estate has pushed the faces and hands that built its skyline to the fringes. It’s a fact of life encapsulated by an opening image of a young black girl going to school by the edge of saltwater so poisonous that city employees will only venture there in hazmat suits. Pushed literally to the edge of society, Jimmie Fails—a character played by the man who has lived this life and wrote the story down—dreams of reclaiming what was once his family’s birthright: a Victorian home in the Golden Gate area that his grandfather claims to have built with his own hands. It is now owned by a privileged middle aged white couple, yet when they enter into an inheritance dispute with relatives, an opportunity opens up for Jimmie and his best friend Montgomery (Jonathan Majors) to move in as squatters. This is a lyrical love letter to cities that no longer exist, and landscapes that once allowed dignity for those who toiled in them. Obviously it is Jimmie’s personal life story, but it is the insights of Montgomery, Emile Mosseri’s mournful score, and Adam Newport-Berra’s surreal camera setups that elevate Last Man’s song and verse into a celestial elegy. One which provides as much hope as it does despair.
Tumblr media
2. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
The arrival of a new Quentin Tarantino movie always comes with debate and some degree of controversy. But when the smoke clears, Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood will be remembered as one of his very best. A film that demands multiple viewings, Once Upon a Time is the rare major studio movie that requires you to meet it on its own terms, a sad fact Tarantino is aware of and deconstructs with a surprising degree of wistful melancholy. An obvious love letter to the long-gone Hollywood of the 1960s, which by ’69 saw the studio system in its death throes, the movie is also a commentary of our own cultural moment where auteurs pursuing massive original ideas, like Tarantino, and movie stars not defined by what cape they’ve worn on screen, like Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt, are almost a thing of the past. Tarantino’s elegiac meditation is as much about his and movie stars’ own setting sun as it is the Hollywood movies he grew up on, but it is also an unimaginably ambitious and celebratory film that dismisses plot and audience expectations that have been flattened by a decade of formula. Here is a film that revels in just chilling out with morally ambiguous characters while also offering a vessel that connects the past and present via giddy historical revisionist madness. Starring DiCaprio and Pitt as fading TV star Rick Dalton and his stuntman Cliff Booth, the film champions the intangible alchemy between charisma and cinema, providing both with their best material in years. Pitt may, in fact, have never been better than as the smiling cowboy whose high noon is with a counterculture that is burying his and Rick’s livelihoods. Their journeys, meanwhile, are paralleled by the rise of a new star named Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie) and the youthful change she represents. The importance of Sharon, and her subtly interconnected world, is determined by how much you know of her going in. For those who do, she is more than just the idol of her age; she is the soul of Tarantino’s sweetest movie, both in terms of its ‘60s setting and its desire to divorce a lifetime of light from the specter of Charles Manson’s half-century of darkness. Unlike Tarantino’s last three pictures, this isn’t about revenge; it’s a bedtime yarn dreaming of salvation for Hollywood, for culture, and for a legacy that can live on past 26 years.

1. Booksmart
Despite her celebrity, Olivia Wilde has always seemed a little underrated as an actor. That should change going forward as Wilde also announces herself as a major directorial talent with Booksmart. A pitch-perfect comedy that writes a teen anthem for the next generation, Booksmart proves that the cinematic R-rated comedy is not dead, and further it can only get better as it invites new diverse voices to reconfigure the form. Among those voices accompanying Wilde are screenwriters like Susanna Fogel and Katie Silberman, and a fresh-faced cast that is more than game to refocus the coming-of-age narrative on the type of nerdy young women who previously might’ve been lucky to be in the fuzzy background, if included at all. Kaitlyn Dever and Beanie Feldstein make a banquet out of protagonists Amy and Molly, two Type A’s who are Ivy League-bound and think the perfect night before graduation is watching Ken Burns documentaries. But upon realizing that all the supposed flakes they wrote off in their senior class are also headed toward bright futures after four years of partying, Molly will make up for missing out by dragging Amy on an odyssey toward the perfect Gen-Z high school party. So there you have it, the 10 best movies of the year so far. Agree? Disagree? Did we leave something off? Let us know in the comment section below! liveblog. flash 3x23. spoilers.
---
That one thing everyone was saying would happen, happened. Oh joy. At least they addressed that Iris wasn’t okay with it.
---
H.R. sacrifices himself and leaves a few final words concerning Cisco. Instead of checking up on Cisco, Barry instead decides to check the future newspaper first to see that Iris is still alive to write that one story. What a friend. Fuckin’ Julian cared more about H.R.
---
Cisco straight roasted Savitar. omg. Never change, Cisco. You’re still the best dude on this show.
---
Soooooo... Barry’s operated on the idea that hating someone enough to kill them is A-OK, until now, conveniently when the big bad they’re facing is just himself, from the future? Talk about preferential treatment!
---
Barry is giving second chances to Savitar for pulling shit he’d throw a geriatric Eobard down a flight of steps for. I can understand that, because it’s stupid, and I may not like it but it’s the story they’re clearly trying to tell. I can’t abide by Iris being written to sympathize with her now-almost-murderer and vow to help him, though! I mean, the acting is okay but what the fuck is this writing? Julian, Joe, Wally, even Tracy, are the only people appropriately hostile to Savitar right now.
Also, Eobard disappeared within the minute of Eddie shooting himself. But Savitar got hours to live before the paradox caught up to him, even though he’s only years older than our current Barry and Eobard was over a century ahead of Eddie. Shouldn’t the paradox have taken longer to reach from Eddie to Eobard than it did from Barry to Savitar?
---
You know this episode is weird as fuck when even Savitar is trying to get people to see reason about the fact that he murdered someone close to them and they’re trying to buddy-buddy him. They definitely didn’t try pulling this on Eobard or Hunter when they got all murdery!
---
Savitar demonstrating exactly why you don’t trust a known murderer with a god complex to suddenly shake off all his neuroses just by people loving him hard enough was A++.
Iris was the last one taken out of there, though. What the fuck?
---
Let me reiterate. Cisco is still the best dude on this show.
---
“I care about you, you piece of shit” -- Cindy in a nutshell
---
So if Killer Frost could’ve put Black Flash on ice this whole time, shouldn’t Eobard have just gotten Captain Cold to do that in LoT? How much colder is Killer Frost than a gun firing off “absolute zero” temperature? Not to mention, Cisco deliberately built the cold gun to disable speedsters. Eobard would’ve known that. Did I miss the part where he at least thought of it?

I love how Savitar has so far: killed H.R., intended to kill Iris, kidnapped Cisco, almost blew everyone in the Labs up with the Philosopher’s Stone after they tried ( futilely ) to reach out for him, sicced Caitlin on Cisco, threatened Cisco with making him “die the same way twice”, and threatened the exact same thing that Eobard did in the end of Season 1 ( murdering everyone Barry ever cared for, and doing it out of spite ), and Barry just lays there and listens, then spares Savitar, and then Iris has to live with taking a life, because Barry’s too damn good for it, apparently. He needs to be free of all moral culpability even if it means his love interest is used as a scapegoat for troubling, less-than-clean acts.
Eddie remains the only one that had the good sense to Looper himself when a mass murderer threatened the lives of everyone around him, whereas Barry consistently finds loopholes out of self-sacrifice. It’s really stupid because I’m sitting here writing about characters doing something I wouldn’t condone in real life, but considering this show set the precedent of “suicide as a valid option to stop evil people” right in season fucking 1, I’m expecting them to stick with it.

So this guy who looked like a dead guy who was also a murderer impersonating another dead guy, this guy right here used a face changing tech so that he didn’t look like the murderous dead guy who impersonated a dead guy, but now he’s dead, and they bury him, and the gravestone has his name on it. His name that is almost the same name as the murderous guy before him and the dead guy before that. And I say ‘almost’ because we never heard Harrison’s middle initial ( which some assume is ‘G’ because of the Time Machine reference but it could potentially be ‘R’ ). The point is, how did anyone not question that? Did they bury him with Randolph’s face? Did he have an identity forged? What?
---
He wasn’t a genius, and he didn’t have super speed, but he saved Iris better than Barry did. Eyyyyyyyyyyy.

I can smell the Frozen jokes and crossovers.

... Iris deserves a lot better writing than “I just murdered the evil version of my fiance who I’d treated with compassion and regarded as the same as my actual fiance for the past day or so, but it’s okay, I’ll feel something about it at some point in the future, I have a marriage right now! :)”.
“I’ve always been yours.” Even when she was with Eddie? ... She needs magnitudes better writing than from people who think “OTP” legitimately makes every other pairing invalid or false or retroactively nonexistent. People that try that post-hoc bullshit in relationships are usually thought of as bad news.

Speedforce storm! Knew Barry wouldn’t get away with this bullshit scot-free! :) Could this be a comics reference? I don’t see why they could pass up the chance for a Flash: Rebirth-style plot resulting in more speedsters (including Godspeed). We may not get a speedster big bad for Season 4, but we can get a shitload more speedster heroes, technically! If they.... either omit or rewrite Godspeed.
---
Oh, right, the Speedforce Prison needs an occupant since Savitar is gone and Jay was freed. Now the Speedforce is revolting and destroying everything to get what it needs, starting with the city and potentially capable of wiping the whole planet if left unchecked. Who was it they said created that thing again? Oh, right. Barry.
---
How can Barry not be going to Hell after the shit he’s been pulling? I’d like to have a good, nice, half-season without him in it just for that.
---
There should be a counter for how many times Joe’s called Barry his son and Barry’s called Joe his father. It’s got to be in the high double-digits or something.

Iris Cries About Not Having the Chance to Be a Mediocre White Dude’s Wife.mp4
again, the acting is okay, but what the fuck is this writing?
Also why can’t she just keep her last name and Barry hyphenate his to Allen-West? He was adopted by the Wests over a decade ago and is more or less their family. He’s been their family longer than Iris has been married, so first things first, and there’s actually a family to be acknowledged with the name change. What the hell is Iris going to marry into when the only Allen is the dude she’s with? Barry should’ve hyphenated. Marriage isn’t the only reason people have more than one last name, anyway. JFC. Get with the times, writers.
