How to start a pair of punk patch pants
(a potentially really shitty tutorial)
I've seen a couple videos on this but a lot of them seem to skip out on some really key information and tricks so I thought I'd just write a probably really long and really rambly post about it!!!
Step one: gathering supplies
In terms of supplies the main things you'll need are:
The pants
Approximately 4 rolls of dental floss (this can change depending on number of patches and your pant size)
A needle with a big enough eye to fit the floss through
Acrylic paints
Brushes
Scrap denim or other scraps of fabric for the patches
Pins
Some kind of marker or pencil that will work on the fabric you've chosen
I will be going into some detail below about why you need each of these items!!
The pants themselves
personally I prefer either using a pair of jeans I already own or thrifting a pair to be as sustainable as possible, however if you really need to go out and buy a new pair for whatever reason get a high quality pair, this will help in the long run with preventing them from falling apart as easily.
The second main point I want to make is that the pants should not be skinny jeans. This is because when you sew on patches it slightly cinches in the fabric, and with skinny jeans generally being stretchy, this is going to result in the thread of the patches stretching out and snapping. Your patches will all just start falling off and it'll ruin your hard work.
This is why I'd recommend using a pair of jeans or pants that are a bit looser of a fit, such as straight legged pants or a pair of pants a size up from your actual size if possible!
Dental floss
The reason it's generally suggested to use dental floss rather than actual thread is because dental floss tends to overall be a lot stronger than your average thread, as well as often being more easily accessible to buy.
Needle
This ones pretty self-explanatory, just make sure you get a needle with a long/wide enough eye (the hole the thread goes through) for your floss to be able to fit through without trouble.
Acrylic paints
You may be wondering why I'm suggesting acrylics over fabric paints and there are a few reasons!
The first is simply that they're both cheaper and far easier to purchase for the average person than fabric paints, and I want this tutorial to be as accessible as possible for as many people as possible.
The second reason is that fabric paints require a lot of fucking around with setting the paint, whereas acrylics can just be left to dry and be finished, and so long as your pants are hand washed, the paints won't come out (unless you layer it on super thick or are really rough when you clean them).
Brushes
Another pretty obvious one, these are needed so you can actually paint your patches!!!
Fabric/spare denim
You need fabric or scraps to be able to actually create patches for your pants, so this is essential.
Any kind of scrap fabric can do, a lot of fabric stores tend to have bins of scrap fabric that are either pre-priced or priced by weight and that can be a really good opportunity to acquire the fabric you need!
Another way (the method I tend to use) is thrifting a few pairs of jeans alongside the pair I want to patch and then ripping them up into patch-sized pieces!
Either way, I really advise against buying straight up new fabrics by the metre for this as it kinda goes against the entire idea of sustainability and reuse.
A really big tip I have for when you're cutting the fabric of your choice up for patches is to actually only cut a little slit, and then rip. This produces a really nice distressed edge and will help add some texture and more of a fucked up look to your pants a lot quicker than if you waited for the fabric to fray by itself!
Marker/pencil
This is literally just so you can draw your designs onto your patches! I've personally found that either a black or white (depending on how dark the fabric you're using is) pastel pencil is generally good enough to get the general gist of what you want down well enough for you to paint it on.
Pins
These are literally just to hold your patches in place and literally any kind from proper sewing pins to safety pins will work! (just don't forget they're in the jeans before you put them on I promise you it isn't fun to put on a pair of jeans full of pins).
Optional: a sketchbook
You may want a sketchbook or alternatively scraps of paper if you have any kind of original concept for a patch so you can draw it out a few times first to really nail it, and it's also helpful to have if you aren't as confident in your painting and drawing abilities!
Step two: patch making
I personally pre-rip/cut all of my patches before I paint anything on them generally speaking and then fit whatever design I want onto whatever piece I think it would fit on, however if you want to paint your patches and then rip/cut the design out that's also an option (and probably a much smarter one I'm just incredibly stubborn).
For punk pants you want a good mix of both punk bands, politics, and also maybe something a bit daft (I have the "he scream at he own ass" possum on the back pocket of a patched skirt for example). If you don't have bands and such, it kinda defeats the point of them being punk patched pants.
I personally generally pick a theme (eg. colourful patches, all black and white) when making anything patched because I think it makes everything look a bit more cohesive, but that is by no means a rule you actually have to follow I'm just autistic a fuck tbh.
Step three: the assembly
I personally put my main/bigger patches on first and put them on in a few different places until I get the placement I like, and then sew them on with the floss like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The main thing you want to do to make sure your pants don't wind up looking a bit weird or bare is to fill in any gaps between your painted patches with small, blank patches. Like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and that's pretty much it!!! I can't really explain via written text how to sew and how I personally tie off etc but if anyone would like a video tutorial lmk!!!

I've noticed that people take writing advice way too literally and then get really mad about it, so here's a quick guide of what the typical "bad' writing advice is actually trying to tell you.
[Note: you don't have to take literally any piece of advice. It's just there for your consideration. If you hate it, leave it and do things the way you want. But the reason all of this advice is regurgitated so often is because it has helped a lot of people, so it's okay if it's not for you, but it may still be life changing for someone else.]
Write Every Day
"Write every day" is NOT supposed to be a prescriptivist, unbreakable rule that dictates anyone who doesn't write literally every day isn't a real writer. It's supposed to be a shorthand way of saying "establish a writing routine. Get used to writing at certain times or in certain places or in certain patterns, both so that you can trick yourself into writing even when you don't feel like it by recreating certain conditions, but also because if you only write "when you're in the mood", you may never get around to finishing a project and you likely won't be able to meet publishing deadlines if you decide to pursue publication."
The point of this advice is basically just to get used to seeing writing as part of your daily routine, something that you do regularly. But if you decide you can't write on Tuesdays or weekdays or any day when you have certain other activities, that's literally fine. Just try to make it a habit if you can.
2. Show Don't Tell
"Show don't tell" DOES NOT AND HAS NEVER meant "never state anything plainly and explicitly in the text". Again, "show don't tell" is a shorthand, and its intended message is "things tend to feel a lot more satisfying when your reader is able to come to that conclusion on their own rather than having the information given to them and being told they just have to accept it." It's about giving your reader the pieces to put the puzzle of your book together on their own rather than handing them a finished puzzle and saying "there. take it."
So if you have a character who's very short-tempered, it's typically more satisfying that you "show" them losing their cool a few times so that the reader can draw the conclusion on their own that this character is short-tempered rather than just saying "He was short-tempered". Oftentimes, readers don't want to take what you tell them at face value, so if you just state these sorts of details, readers will push back against that information. People are significantly more likely to believe literally any information they are able to draw conclusions on without being told what to believe, so that's where this advice comes in.
3. In Medias Res
This one is so often misunderstood. "In medias res" or "start in the middle", DOES NOT MEAN to literally start halfway through your plot. It also DOES NOT MEAN that you should start in the middle of an action packed scene. It just means that when you start your story, it should feel like the world and the characters already existed before we started following them. It shouldn't feel like everything was on pause and the world and characters only started acting the moment the story begins.
This is why starting with a character waking up or something similar can feel jarring and slow. We want to feel instantly compelled by your character, and the most efficient way to do that is [typically] to have them already doing something, but that something can be anything from taking a shower to commuting to school to chopping off a dragon head. We just want to feel like the story is already moving by the time we enter.
4. Shitty First Drafts
The idea that you should let your first draft suck and not revise it as you go is a tip presented to combat the struggle a lot of people have with not being able to finish a draft. If you find you've been working on the same first draft for five years and barely gotten anywhere, you might want to try this advice. The point is to just focus on getting to the ending because finishing a draft can give you renewed energy to work on the book and also makes it easier to get feedback from readers and friends.
That said, if your story is flowing fine even as you go back and make edits, then don't worry about this. This is advice specifically designed to target a problem. Likewise, this doesn't mean that you can't clean up typoes when you see them or even make minor edits if you want to. It just means not to let yourself get completely bogged down by making changes that you never move forward.
A "shitty first draft" also doesn't mean that your story has to be completely illegible. It just means that you shouldn't let perfectionism stop you yet. I see a lot of people say "well, I can't keep going until this first part makes sense", and that's totally reasonable! Again, the point of this advice is just to get you out of that rut that keeps you from making progress, but if you spend a couple weeks editing and then move on or you find the book is still making forward strides while you edit, then you're fine. You don't need this.
5. Adverbs
The idea that you "shouldn't use adverbs" DOES NOT MEAN that any time you use an adverb, you're ruining your story. It just means that you shouldn't *rely* on adverbs to carry your story, namely in places where stronger verbs or nouns would do a lot more heavy lifting.
For instance, you can write "she spoke quietly", but generally speaking, that "quietly" there is a lot weaker than just subbing out this clause for "she whispered". You probably have the word "spoke" all over your draft, so subbing out one instance of it here for a stronger verb in place of the same verb + an adverb makes for stronger prose. This doesn't mean that you'll never want to use the phrase "spoke quietly" over the word "whispered". For instance, if I write, "When she finally spoke, she spoke quietly, like that was all the volume her weakened lungs could muster." In this case, I'm using "spoke quietly" specifically *because* it echoes the previous spoke earlier in the sentence, and it evokes a certain level of emotion to have that repetition there. I also used it because she's not actually "whispering", but trying to speak at full volume only to come off sounding quiet.
So when people tell you to cut adverbs, they're saying this because people often use adverbs as a crutch to avoid having to seek out stronger verbs. If you're using your adverbs intentionally, having considered stronger verbs but ultimately deciding that this adverb is what does the job properly, then there's nothing wrong with using them. This is just a trick to help you spot one common weakness in prose that a lot of authors don't even realize they have.
6. Write What You Know
This is potentially the single worst-underestood piece of writing advice. "Write what you know" DOES NOT MEAN to write only what you know or that you have to put all of your life's knowledge on the page. It just means that drawing from your own experiences and already there knowledge will help you craft a better story.
So, for instance, being an eye doctor doesn't mean you have to write a story about an eye doctor. It doesn't even mean you need to write a story that directly deals with any eye knowledge. It just means that there are likely things you've experience as an eye doctor that can help inspire or inform your story. Maybe you remember a patient who always wore the same yellow shoes, and so you include a character who does exactly that. Maybe you spent a lot of hours dealing with insurance so you decide to write about insurance agents. Maybe your practice was located next to a grocery store so you decide to write a zombie apocalypse story that takes place in a location inspired by that shopping center.
The point is that, as people, our lived experiences allow us to relate to other people and craft more believable worlds. So don't limit yourself to your lived or experience or feel obligated to only write the things you've done, but when you find yourself wondering what to write about next or how to give a character more depth or how to describe this random location, pull things from your life and let what you already know bring a certain level of unique you-ness to your writing.
And the MOST important advice I can give you is to stop looking at writing advice as some holy, unbreakable rules passed down by the gods that you cannot ever deviate from. And if a piece of advice sounds totally bonkers, do some research on it. There's a good chance that whoever's passing it to you has no idea what they're talking about. But even if every other writer swears by a certain piece of advice, you absolutely do not need to take it. Try it on if you want, and throw it away if you don't, but stop making yourselves miserable by letting random internet people dictate your life. Most people giving advice on the internet aren't where you want to be anyway, so don't expect them to be able to guide you somewhere they've never been.
Everything's made up, and nothing matters. Write what you want.

Translation of Tatsuya Endo's Interview with Katsumaru: (You can read the original here X)
Katsumaru: My wife and child are both big fans of "Spy x Family", so they were both excited for me to be able to meet you today. Why did you choose the theme "Spy" in the first place?
Endo: I didn't have any particular desire to draw a spy story or something like that, but I had always liked military kinds of things and was interested in war related things, so when I combined those aspects with the theme of "lies", it naturally ended up as a spy story. However, I haven't seen many spy movies, and for movies like "007", I've only seen one or two of them.
Katsumaru: What? Really? The information about spies that appears in the story, even for someone like me who's been an avid follower of the genre, gives an impression that it's very well thought out. How on earth did you acquire such knowledge?
Endo: Most of it is from books. And then some of it is from documentary films and the likes. There was an old movie called "Shiri" (This is a 1999 Korean film), it's about the battle between North Korean Special Operation Forces and South Korean Intelligence Agency. I liked that very much.
Katsumaru: The setting, in which the husband, Loid, is a spy and the wife, Yor, is an assassin, reminded me of the movie "Mr & Mrs Smith"
Endo: When the series was just starting, I see that title being mentioned a lot in the comments, but to be honest I've never seen it before....(Laughs). I didn't have much time to prepare for the serialization, and since it's a comedy, I thought I didn't have to be that particular about the settings as I drew it. I incorporated the knowledge I had gained from books, but since it's still a manga, I kept the "No way, that's impossible" aspects to it.
Katsumaru: I think it has a really good balance between realistic depiction and entertainment. Spies are part of everyday life, and some of them even established a "fake family" as in "SPY X FAMILY". In reality, there are cases where married couples had been living together without realizing that their husbands are spies.
Endo: That balance is what I pay the most attention to. I guess you can say it's a process of determining the "minimum level of reality" in each scene.
Katsumaru: How concerned are you about the difference between "reality and manga", Endo-sensei?
Endo: This one is difficult. It's a case by case basis, but in manga, there are many parts where I can just go "let's fake the reality at this part for the time being". When you're working alone, you don't have time to do research about this or that fact. However, in anime, you have to create much more detailed settings, so there isn't much room to put on tricks. When the anime team would ask me "What would happen in this part?" I would often reply with "I'm sorry but I haven't thought about it yet...." (Laughs).
Katsumaru: Have you not strictly defined the scene or time period the story is set in yet?
Endo: I had the image of the period setting somewhere between the 1960s and 1970s. I'm trying to explore what I can do with the technologies in this era thinking "This technology might be possible". I also have softened the reality of things, such as the political form. The cold war between the East and West is also part of the motif, but if you just tell the readers that "it's a conflict of ideologies" , it won't make sense to them. So, I put it into a form that is easy to understand as a manga, there are also some parts that I, myself don't know about after all. Similarly, in the real world, for example, spies probably have very few horizontal connections, right? Like for security reasons. However, as a manga, in order to develop the story, it was necessary for me to depict conversations between spies. All the more that this is a comedy story, so it wouldn't work without conversation. It's difficult to find the right flavor between the two.
Katsumaru: It's pretty unique that you came up with the name "Dalc" which is similar to the name of the currency "Mark" (It's Deutsche Mark which is no longer in use since 2002) used in Germany.
Endo: It's actually a combination of "Mark" and "Dollar". I often use names of places and buildings that actually exist in real life. However, I have a pretty bad memory, so I often ask myself later "Where did I get the name of this place again?" (Laughs)
Katsumaru: Is there any expert historical research or supervision of intelligence agencies involved in this?
Endo: I basically think about all the detailed settings all by myself.
Katsumaru: Since the real-life aspects are well-constructed, I thought an expert in international politics was involved in supervising this.
Endo: There are also some readers who read too deep into the historical situation, but I didn't actually put much thought into the details in writing the story. This is just a fictional country called "Westalis and Ostania" after all.
Katsumaru: In "Spy x Family", there are some Russian-speaking names such as "Anya" and "Yuri" that appears, but spies in that country uses more analog method. For example, "flash contact", in which documents are handed over to another person as they pass each other, or a "drop dead", in which documents are hidden in an agreed-upon location and later picked up by a colleague. There is also a method for communication. Although this method is considered extremely inefficient, it is sometimes considered to be highly secure because it prevents interception of communications.
Endo: So there's still that kind of analogs even now huh? Now that technology has developed and everything is digitalized, I certainly think it's much safer now. In other countries, there are organization such as M16 (United Kingdom Secret Intelligence Service) and CIA (US Central Intelligence Agency), Japan also has organizations with such characteristics.
Katsumaru: The "Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department Public Security Bureau (Public Safety)", where I worked, is the counterintelligence arm of Japan. In "VIVANT" (It's a 2023 Japanese Drama), which I supervised, Hiroshi Abe and Ryo Ryusei are playing roles with these type of characters. We have obtained as collaborators people who have a lot of information and people who are in position to meet various people such as reporter.
The only problem was that we didn't have enough people. The CIA has a large number of subordinates under it's station chief, and a large budget. When I was temporary transfered to a Japanese embassy overseas, I was alone, my budget was limited, and I was also reponsible for issuing passports, so there is no doubt that working at an intelligence agency overseas with better environment had allowed me to concentrate more on my mission.
Endo: Do you hire locals overseas?
Katsumaru: There are times when we ask locals to work with us by paying them a reward. Or, we can ask them to connect us with people who has information. The Public Safety is very good at finding and training people who can bring good quality information and can do good work.

PLEASE READ THIS!!! NEOPENTANE5 TOLD ME TO KILL MYSELF AFTER I TALKED ABOUT THAT SHE SUPPORTED RAPE TO MY FRIEND
Tumblr media
Someone sent this to me, and I have something to say about it. Don't buy what she said on her Twitter, I explained every single detail below.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm adding these pictures as well since these tweets were basically her referring to me and saying a lot of bad things about me. I've heard this meant "I wish you go kill yourself", "You don't deserve any friends" and so on, so I decided to translate it. She deleted it, and it's gone by now, but I could get a screenshot of her saying it.
TL;DR: I cut neopentane5 off and blocked her last year, I've been struggling because of severe depression since last year and she was the main reason who caused it, I vented about how I felt and what I couldn't understand her to my friend, and somehow it ended up with Neopentane5 seeing my DM with my friend and she self attacked me on her Twitter because of the DM, revealing my personal information and writing on her Twitter that I need to kill myself.
Below this is about what exactly happened and how Neoepentane5 tried to justify her actions. I explained it with all the proof that she was wrong and spreading misinformation, including some NSFW pictures she sent.
I don't know where to start, but let me talk about what happened last year between me and her.
The first reason I cut her off :
A few months ago, a guitarist of my favorite band passed away, so I was really shocked and sad, and I wanted to talk about it to someone and get comforted. There was a discord server where I, Neopentane5, and some other people were so I went there and talked about it. One of them asked me about it, but Neopentane5 just said nothing but sent a nsfw pic right below my text, completely ignoring me.
Tumblr media
It was really rude and disrespectful, not just because the guitarist was my favorite but it was really weird and absurd of her to send a nsfw pic when she heard that someone died. Because of this, I was feeling depressed, so I tried not to pay attention to the server and her. I muted the notifications and tried to do something else like watching movies, playing games, or going out and so on because I thought it would become better if I could ignore this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But she kept sending a bunch of nsfw pictures like these pictures without my consent and I was really overwhelmed and mad because of it.
This is the uncensored version of the screenshots.
The second reason why I cut her off:
Around last Halloween, I posted this to do inbox trick or treating. People who wanted to join it left likes there, and everyone who left likes on that post answered back, but Neopentane5 was the only one who didn't do anything even though she left her like. I thought she might be busy, and I asked her why she hadn't answered. She said she read it and wanted to draw something for it and would post it that night, but I didn't really mind if she wanted to draw something or not, because I was content with communicating with people by sending some candy pics and it was wholesome.
Tumblr media
She really seemed to draw one for it, and I didn't want to let her down by saying I didn't really need her drawing or so, so I gave her enough time and she didn't post anything about it even two weeks had passed. I was really getting upset and depressed because it felt like I was worthless and not worth being remembered or cared about. I stopped texting her and everyone back then because of my depression.
Then she suddenly texted me first unusually and it was like this.
Tumblr media
She just wanted to use me for translating that picture when she clearly knew that I didn't like the reboot stuff and didn't want to see it at all. She could've just googled it and used a translator, but she still decided to ask me to translate it for her. I had been feeling really down that time, and I didn't want to text back, but I also didn't want to make her feel bad so I just joked like I was all good and translated it for her. I felt I was worthless than the google translate and she just laughed it off and didn't really care about it when she should've made a proper apology. It didn't look like a person who was genuinely feeling sorry and it made my mental state worse. So I said just forget about it, and she didn't even answer back.
Other reasons I cut her off:
I had been already feeling depressed because I had always felt that I was the only one who cared about the 'friendship' she claimed to call it. Whenever I wanted to 'talk' with her, I always had to bring something interesting related to the fandom stuff, or she didn't even reply or reply very carelessly like "okay cool" a few days later when I texted her. She also didn't text me first usually, and I noticed it when I started talking with her last year. I thought I could talk about it to her and solve the problem together, so I seriously asked her to text me first sometimes and told her that I was feeling neglected because of her lack of messages. She said she wasn't just a talkative person and didn't really start a conversation first, but it was also the same for me because I wasn't a talkative one either. At least she promised that she would change and try to message me first, but she didn't. I talked about it to her more than three times, but she didn't even try hard to keep her promise and I lost trust that it would fix anything if I talked with her.
This was the last conversation when I blocked her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was trying not to be rude, and I explained why I decided to distance her. If she actually cared about the 'friendship', then she should've apologized to me and asked me if we could start over. But she immediately decided to cut me off (which means she didn't care about me) and started making excuses to justify her actions.
About Neoepentane5 saying something supportive about rape:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She tried to make her words promising about rape is okay by using the logic that she's Asian and Asian people are like that. Me, as a Korean, I don't support rape and I am against people who tolerate rape in any case. I couldn't understand how could a person be okay with rape at all and I was so disgusted by it, so I vented it to my friend because I'd already cut her off and there was no way for her to see this, a few days ago. But somehow, Neopentane5 was able to see my DM which I only intended to share with my friend, and wrote about it, making excuses and revealing my Discord name and Tumblr blog to the public, allowing her followers could easily attack me when I had no intention to expose her when I was talking with my friend.
Tumblr media
We used to be friends, but we didn't quarrel and the quarrel she means is the last conversation I wrote about above, where I was explaining why I decided to block her. I didn't drive a distance between Neopentane5 and her friends, in fact, there was only one person I asked why didn't they distance Neopentane5 yet. The friend she was talking about was also my friend, and when I decided to block her, I told the friend too. I was genuinely worried about the friend because they said that they also had problems with Neopentane5 before and had an emotionally hard time because of her.
Tumblr media
I talked about my interaction with her to my friends, not making it go on the public. Every person can feel bad and hate someone, and I needed to vent my feelings to my friends, Neopentane5 is talking about this as if I did something wrong after seeing what she wasn't able to see. About how she could manage to see my DM, my friend shared it with someone else without my consent and their friend shared it again to another, and so on. This is a wild guess, but when I talked to the friend after blocking Neopentane5 they said they already knew what happened, and in the way Neopentane5 talked in the last conversation I had with her, it's not hard to assume that she probably said many bad things about me. I don't blame her for talking back behind my back, because it's natural to vent someone's feelings to someone, but it's very disappointing and frustrating to see her attack me.
Tumblr media
When I said I could make her an account, she denied it because she didn't want to look weak in front of me and said it was cheap to buy a new phone number, saying it didn't even cost a single dollar.
Tumblr media
It was one game she bought, and I told her how much I appreciated it enough that she told me to stop praising her. However, she hadn't played it once when I asked her to play it together later. I don't know what she's talking about the 'learning new ways to use AI for me' because if she's talking about CAI, I was the one who was making characters mostly and I've never asked her to make one for me.
Tumblr media
I asked her to do RP with her because it looked like she was getting tired of CAI's waiting line and the limited responses. I said it was totally okay if she didn't want to do so, but she accepted it and then I made a server to invite her. She talked like she didn't enjoy it at all, but as embarrassing as it might sound, I enjoyed it and appreciated her for doing it together, and when I asked her if she was enjoying this too, she said yes and saved funny moments we had.
Tumblr media
I say it again that it wasn't an argument or a quarrel. I explained why I wanted to distance her instead of just blocking her without any words, giving her the last chance to apologize and to make things better again. I explained it in the last conversation I had with her, you can read about how she keeps trying to justify her careless actions toward me by saying she's just forgetful and I don't understand her at all when I was struggling because of my depression and I needed someone to show me that they cared about me, but she couldn't understand me at all. I expected her to show it to me because she said I was special and different unlike the other friends she had, but maybe I was too naive.
Tumblr media
I've never talked about anything related to her to the public or in my account where anyone can see it until now. Look at who decided to point me out and blame me, revealing my blog and discord account.
Tumblr media
It's also not healthy to write me to go kill yourself.
This is all, and it was Neopentane5 who started blaming me on the Internet first. These are her Tumblr, Twitter, and Instagram pages. I hope anyone who reads this will distance yourself from her and her devotees, and it would be appreciated if you could reblog this post and share it on other websites like Twitter too.
Sorry for tagging the fandom tags, but I don't want other people to suffer the same thing I did. Thank you for reading a long post. + I edited the post since it was flagged.

Note
might be bit of a stretch but since i saw you use clip studio, would you know any workaround around brush lag in clip studio paint in large files?
my brushes start lagging at around 150px
hey! I happen to run into the same issue sometimes on large files, and it's likely due to RAM being overworked. Long story short you need to optimise your RAM, I'll detail a few things I do under the cut so it doesn't clog anyone's TL:
I work in super large files, all of which are 600dpi. Generally I'll look to lower the size of my files, so no timelapse recording on large files (this makes large files lag BADLY), merge layers as you go, lower your resolution (600 dpi is luxury and largely overkill lol I just do it out of habit, 300 is more than enough, 150 is good for drawing, personally I think 72 is too little esp if you have textured brushes). To keep the same effects and textures size on your brushes at smaller resolutions you can play around with the "enlarging ratio" (or something similar, it's "rapport d'agrandissement" in french) under the "textures" menu in your brush settings.
Tumblr media
Something SUPER important if you haven't done it already: under "performances" in the software's settings menu, you can also allow CSP to take up more RAM. Mine's at 90%, I can't remember what the default is but you can bring it up anyway. Shut down and restart the program to make the change effective.
Tumblr media
Otherwise, anything that can help you optimise your RAM: open your task manager (ctrl+shift+esc) and see what else is clogging it, and kill those softwares temporarily. Web browsers especially tend to take up a lot of RAM, Adobe softwares as well (it's why I switched to CSP in the first place) so if you're running Photoshop and CSP at the same time for instance, you might want to kill Ps. Same with OBS if you're streaming. Similarly, you might want to disable softwares opening when you start your computer (e.g OneDrive if you don't use it, Teams, Creative Cloud or whatever the fuck is launching on start and then passively taking up resources). Same with apps that just get minimised instead of completely shut down when you close the window (discord and Teams do this by default for instance, you can change it individually in the softwares' settings).
Last resort would be to simply increase your hardware RAM. I have 32GB which is super comfortable (and would be more comfortable if my canvases weren't 600 dpi hahaha), but I think 16GB would be enough to run CSP smoothly.
These aren't magic tricks unfortunately, I wish there was such thing, but a little optimisation here and there can go a long way. I'm absolutely not there myself so don't take my word for it, but anything you can do to free a little space on your RAM can make a little difference.

Dislikes: crowded places, early mornings, sour foods/drinks, loud noises (except music)
Free time: video games, baking, drawing, working out, journaling

Appearance: averagely built trans guy, sorta messy brown hair, green eyes, the sun is not my friend (ie: pale!), a few black-ink tattoos on my arms/chest, small ear gauges, glasses
Personality: Quiet and maybe a little shy at first, but chill and easygoing once I’m used to someone. Kind of protective ‘older brother’ vibes, very responsible but not overbearing - I am there for support but won’t be pushy about it. I laugh easily and love jokes/puns, can be very playful once super comfortable with someone. Love casual touch but unlikely to initiate it, not a fan of clinging, but happy to be used as a pillow.

i match you with...
Mammon!
Tumblr media
★ i have a feeling that Mammon would be the absolute king of halloween. he'd love to scare people, dress up, go trick or treating (even though beel would end up eating all the candy anyway)
★ oh he'd love your tattoos, 100%. would love to look at them, ask their meanings and details, trace them with his fingers
★ Mammon is super scared of all kinds of horror movies (which is funny cause he's a literal demon), but he will act like he's not. "The Great Mammon scared of some movie? Don't make me laugh!" but then he'll cover his eyes throughout the whole movie. will still agree whenever you ask him to watch it with you lol
★ your love language is gift giving? say no more. he's into that lmao
we all know him as an avatar of greed, who only ever wants to sell whatever will bring the most money. he could sell literally anything, but not a present you gave to him. he cherishes those way too much
★ he'd love to watch you getting more comfortable with him, especially if he sees that you get along with him better than with his brothers. such an ego boost lol
★ will laugh at all your jokes, sending a glare to anyone who, in his opinion, isn't showing enough interest. will definitely complain about them later. Levi only smiled instead of laughing out loud? "When i tell you, this man has NO sense of humor-"
★ he loves to see you being an "older brother" who's protective towards others. mostly because he think he's like this too.. or at least he also wants to be seen this way. my man just wants his demon brothers to appreciate him for once:(
★ one of the reasons why i chose Mams for you, is because of your dream bday present! i imagine he'll make a list of things that he knows you might need, and another list of things you two could do together. so in the end, your birthday becomes a whole day of receiving different things you needed, with doing a lot of fun things in between
Tumblr media
your second match was levi btw! hope you like it:)

Here are the two new characters and the other half of the misfits (if I could draw, they would look different. maybe someday I will post what they look like in more detail. Also, I may add more things to their descriptions as the story progresses.)
Tony
Tumblr media
Born and raised in inkopolis, he grew up in house by the pier. He was always labeled as a problem child due to his desires to be "cool" in the eyes of others leading him to adopt a Greaser like aesthetic and tone. When he got into high school, he found a group of like-minded people who, all together, became a major menace to the local area. Vandalism, shoplifting etc, they even made a "gang" which was just them but with an edgy name. Overtime they got into more and more trouble and began to do more than petty crimes. muggings, breaking and entering, and actual crimes. Tony, trying to fit in, went along with this even having to serve a month in juvey for assault. After a while, he began to back pedal on the "gang" idea after seeing how they weren't 'cool' they were just criminals. But despite his attempts to persuade his friends, they stayed on their path and pressured him into staying as well. He reluctantly did so, not wanting to be alone with no friends, despite the pleads of his parents. When the octolings started coming to the surface, he noticed that his friends were incredibly racist to them. Always singling them out and mocking them, with everything else they were doing it started to break him, not wanting to have no friends but not wanting to be a part of the gang. One day he spotted them cornering an octoling girl and mocking her, for how she looked, who she was, telling her that her kind should go back underground. eventually trying to beat her up, having enough he steps in and defends her. His "friends" don't take kindly to this and attack him. He tells the octoling to run but to his surprise, she begins beating seven bells out of them. He joins her in fending them off, still being surprised that someone being backed into a corner a few seconds ago was now fighting like a soldier. After the gang ran off and they began talking, she thanked him for (trying) to help her and told him her name was Vanessa. They became friends after this, hanging out and playing turf together (he was also surprised by her combat ability's there too) and making his fear of having no friend's a distant memory he also begins to develop feelings for her but fears losing the friendship so doesn't confess.
Age:16
Weapon: heavy splatting
personality: a mix of outgoing and laidback, with a "it is what it is" look on most things and a but childish.
fun facts:
He forced the accent he has so much, it became how he talked.
barely passing high school (its summer currently so he doesn't have to worry about that right now)
Has an octarin tattoo on his shoulder, Vanessa told him it meant "warrior of the shadows." but it actually means "Mark of the gullible fool" (she thought it was funny to trick him, which it is)
does community service to try and make up for some of his time in the gang.
basically, my only character on good standing with their parents
Will eat almost anything you give him
-----‐------------
Vanessa
Tumblr media
Backstory: [REDACTED] please contact an official with class 8 access to view this file.
Age: 16
Weapon: splattershot
Personality: a bit shy to most but can quickly open up. Is the type with deep thoughts and a lot to say. Loves gossip.
Fun facts:
Is a super fan of off the hook, has almost all their merch and a signed copy of ebb and flow (oddly enough she will refuse to go to any fan meet and greet or backstage event where the band is. She refuses to talk about why)
Is a near master of hand-to-hand combat and stealth.
Loves anything strawberry flavored
Is an only child, but is unable to contact her parents since they stayed underground. (..... well that's the official story.)
Hates salty stuff
she is trans but is not public about it

My thoughts on the BSD S5 finale (what I did not like, and what I liked, and how real-life issues might have influenced BSD)
⚠️ spoiler alert!
Late to the party because I was busy (and still am, so I've only seen the main spoilers for the last episode). Now, I have loads of mixed feelings.
Spoilers below!
*Takes a deep breath* Now.
The finale violates so many rules of story-writing and characterisation:
First, characterisation: Fyodor, our genius Fyodor, could not simply be defeated by a pair of contacts and fake fangs that even a normal person can tell apart). That is not the same person who had tricked Ace, nor is that the same person who was able to speak with Dazai in code. If Asagiri had made the contact-lenses-and-fake-fangs decision, he had truly done Fyodor dirty. There is an alternative take on this specific plot that I agree with, more on that below in Fyodor's section.
Second, storyline progress: as of Dazai's death in Chapter 109 (and S5E10), we're at the climax of the DOA storyline. There is a rule in story writing that it must always be followed by a "falling action" phase, and it is severely lacking in the finale, and as a result everything feels rushed.
Number 2 leads to loose ends. Lots of them. Sigma is a glaring one. Crime and Punishment another. Nikolai's motives too.
Oh, and that poison Dazai and Fyodor injected. Given that there's no explanation given, the poison violates the rule of Chekov's gun. Asagiri put so much focus on the poison when it was first introduced, and it was just hand waved away? Asagiri, what are you doing? Please give me an explanation soon, this is unlike you.
ALSO, Sigma's death. Really? Asagiri? Bones? Another rule of storytelling is to never write in a character and hype them up only to kill them, unless there is a damn good reason why. And I will be waiting for the damn good reason why. Or for you to write Sigma back to life. That's all I will say about Sigma for now. Give me my precious cinnamon roll!
My first thought when I saw the spoilers was pure anger, because the rushed finale = shoddy writing and is seriously not up to Asagiri's usual standards. I hope this was (at least) partially Bones' own creative adaptation of Asagiri's storyline. I have no qualms about Bones and Asagiri making Dazai turn the tables. After all, BSD still falls into the shounen category, so it doesn't really take a genius to figure out Dazai is going to live and the Yokohama tripartite was going to win (even if I panicked a lot when I saw Chapter 109). However, again, what I do have a lot of qualms with is the abrupt ending, and the way Fyodor's characterisation and the details were handled.
The only believable thing in the S5 finale was Fukuchi's change of heart and motive, and that's only because BSD is still a genre-savvy shounen series.
The main problem is how quickly Bones has written the rest of the DOA arc out, squeezing them into a span of one episode. To make an apt comparison, the storyline exploded like Fyodor's helicopter :-/ There was simply too much buildup (two seasons worth! And around 50 chapters worth of storyline development in the manga!) for it to end this way. It's like that horse-drawing meme (if you don't know what it is, look it up), and it leaves a really bad taste as a viewer. I was expecting a grander scheme or method of reveal, only to be disappointed.
It's unfair to blame Bones and Asagiri entirely, however. There are a few things that might have caused this, but it's highly possible that real-life factors have influenced the way the anime and the storyline were handled.
Harukawa-sensei is not at her best right now, which means progress for the manga is slow, and the anime had only been advertised until Season 5. Which means unless Bones ties everything up quickly, we’ll be left with an incomplete finale.
The intellectual rights for BSD are held by Kadokawa, and the manga for BSD is selling well. They are also getting a lot of money from the anime (from Bones as well since Bones has to pay them royalty fees), but less so compared to their other IP that have been turned into anime (Oshi no Ko is very popular right now, and is top 1 anime IP revenue for Kadokawa according to their most recent report). The BSD anime, however, has struggled with dwindling sales* in comparison to the manga and Bones' other series. One of these said series is an undated, upcoming project (I will refrain from naming it because fandoms are sensitive sometimes) which I think will be announced soon. From an investor and profit standpoint, it's better for the company to finish BSD quickly and focus their efforts on that, especially since updates for the manga has stalled and Bones has done nothing but focus on BSD this year. This means they are feeding Kadokawa money at a loss.
*I wasn't able to find an official investor report for Bones Inc., because unlike Kadokawa, they are not a listed company. If anyone has the official data, please let me know.
On Fyodor:
Right now, I think it's highly likely that Fyodor and Dazai's last scene is Asagiri-canon instead of Bones' own creation. While Bones has deviated from manga/LN canon occasionally, the changes they make are usually not big. This is no longer an era where animes have their own storyline adaptations. However, due to the limitations of an one-cour run, Bones might have changed the details on how Dazai and Fyodor got there. Otherwise, I can't understand why Asagiri would do both Fyodor (and by extension Dazai) dirty like this, this easily. Even his blunder with NLH in the Fifteen Light Novel was more forgivable compared to this. (Yes, I am in severe denial over Asagiri being able to do this to one of the smartest characters in the series. He had hyped up Fyodor's intelligence and observational skills too much for him to fall for this specific trap.)
This does not necessarily mean that Fyodor is completely dead and gone from the storyline. We now know that he's not the final villain (a development that leaves me feeling conflicted because Fyodor is a great villain), which means that there is a high likelihood he will return as an ally given, ah, Fitzgerald's development and the typical shounen manga storyline progression. Or, if he is truly dead, he will continue to influence the storyline in some manner. I based this guess on his lines under the night sky. It's only a wild guess.
Another possibility that's worth mentioning: It has been theorised (and hinted) that C&P is an ability that creates a doppelgänger of Fyodor in a way. There's a chance that it was the ability that died. Maybe. There's also a guess going around that Dazai knows it's not the real Fyodor but the doppelgänger that died, but as of the finale, we don't know for sure. I personally am unsure about this one, because Asagiri has indicated that NLH also works when Dazai touches abilities (see his battle with the Number-ability user in the Azure King/Apostle case, as well as Soukoku's battle with Rimbaud), and Dazai actually held Fyodor's hand after his helicopter crashed. If that Fyodor was an Ability, he would've dissipated the moment Dazai made contact…unless the bandage and cloth act as a barrier (which also does not make sense because Dazai had stopped Steinbeck's ability through his clothes…unless Asagiri had forgotten about that…which he has before.)
Or…C&P allows for body-switching, and Fyodor’s mind/soul switched out before his death? Idek I’m just throwing out guesses at this point. I’m still confused as to what C&P actually does.
This last one, which is my favourite, is that Fyodor fell for the trick on purpose (which, alright, I guess he's choosing the greater good over himself) and chose not to expose Dazai and Chuuya for whatever reason. Perhaps because of the other person he had mentioned. So he's basically acting to the bitter end and paying with his life. If this is true, fine, it absolves Asagiri of his guilt of making Fyodor fall for such a simple trick.
I'm a Fyodor fan, but even I gotta admit he's as resilient as a cockroach (ahem) Dazai, so there's a chance he's really not dead. (This might be my wishful thinking, aha.)
Now, onto things I actually like about the S5 finale:
Soukoku. Enough said. Nice to see you two going about your business as usual. Imagine how much effort Chuuya had to put into not laughing when he shot Dazai.
Aya and Bram's relationship. It's been heavily implied that Aya is the reincarnation of someone important to Bram (manga), more specifically, his daughter (anime). You don't get a lot of relationships like this in anime, and I am stoked (geddit?) to see their relationship development from here. Not from a shipping point of view, but from a familial and platonic (and a knight-and-lady) point of view. Aya is a character filled with possibilities, and Bram seems like a fun character. They have so much potential together. Asagiri, don't ruin it.
Dazai's characterisation: Dazai and Chuuya's little act, and Dazai's influence on Sigma. He could have had Chuuya kill Fyodor immediately, but held off, possibly because he wanted to turn Sigma to be sympathetic and emotionally-attached to the thought of joining the ADA. Now, Dazai is on the side of good, but we know it is within his character to be manipulative enough to do this. Had Dazai made Chuuya kill Fyodor immediately, that emotional connection would have never been established. This is very much in-line with Dazai's method of doing things, and with his characterisation. If that farce actually worked, this is actually a great way to demonstrate how Dazai's darkness can be used for the side of good.
On Fyodor and Dazai: After one movie and three seasons, Fyodor finally acknowledged Dazai! He went from underestimating him to enjoying his battle with Dazai, to finally acknowledging him upon his defeat. Nice.
There's more coming based on Fukuchi and Fyodor's lines, and Akutagawa and Atsushi's last scene, which is great, because I need to know more. There's so much left unexplained and/or unexplored: the Transcendents, Christie, Crime and Punishment and Fyodor, and the Book, just to name a few.
(Also, I quite like Aku's new design :P)
I don't know when we'll be able to see the anime again, but as long as Kadokawa doesn't drop BSD, and Harukawa-sensei takes her time to recover carefully, I'm sure, one day, we'll get an anime adaptation of the upcoming seasons.
Still, I'm desperately hoping that the manga storyline will offer us a more complete explanation.

Log #4 My Best Friends
Disclaimer, this Au goes into detail about death, mentions of sexual assault, cults, religion, gore, and explicit details about violence. viewer discretion is advised. I do not own any of the characters unless stated otherwise and everything is purely for entertainment purposes. I only own my writing.
My plans for today went completely down the drain. I was supposed to go try and get on Tims good side in an attempt to gain some favors but it started to rain and it seemed the 3 boys had disappeared from their side of the woods. ████   says they are most likely on patrol which makes me feel slightly bad due to the weather. I didn't let this get me down ( even if the roof to my cabin is leaking)
████  and I have decided to just relax at home, or try to. I figured it would be productive to do some more logging and since I already have logs on myself, the 4 brothers and a few of the proxies, I figured it would also be beneficial to record my two best friends.
Yurei Reid: St Bernard    z██m██ dog     Age: 4   Weight: 120 pounds
Yurei is the sweetest dog in the world. She has been my loyal service dog for around 4 years now and has helped me everyday we have been together. I love her like she's family and I would give her the world (she deserves it). She knows a many tricks and helps me h█n█ ████ ███ █s████e ████ ████████ it ████ ███████ ██ ██p ████ ███ f█e█h ██ ███ ███ br███ █e █████ c█r██p█  Shes such a good dog. Yurei Fun Facts:  She hates lemons Likes to hunt down mice Is nervous around men (mood) Insists on sleeping on top of me despite weight more than me Loves the snow
█████ ███g███ : Ghost  Age: 19? 29?  Weight: 0 pounds???  Height: could be around 5'4 (she floats)
████  won't tell me much about her past but if I had to guess due to her appearance she passed away in the hospital. I don't wanna pry much since it's probably a sensitive subject but she worries me sometimes. I can tell she tries to have a good time and have fun but there is just this overall sadness that seems to consume her body. Maybe that's a ghost thing but I wish I could help out in any way.
She won't tell me if she had any siblings or anything about her dad but she has talked about her mother a few times. Apparently her mother is very kind and is quite the baker but besides the food her mother made and how she always wanted to be a nurse. She sounds like a very nice lady and I had to guess she might still be alive. A few things Ly has told me are her interests, we often like to play games on my old ds and the shows she often references consist of ‘pretty little liars’ and ‘ jersey shore’. If I had to guess she was alive for the early 2010’s but not much past that. Ly is also very dramatic, she speaks a lot with her hands and knows how to ramble and gossip which isn't too surprising considering i'm the first person she has spoken to since her death, plus i like her dramatics. It helps me understand her body language better and how she is feeling. The three of us are a good trio.
████  Fun Facts Enjoys video games Is very competitive Very paranoid Speaks her mind (she rants a lot) Very good spy Makes me feel safer in the woods Is my best friend
The storm isn't dying down anytime today so I decided to draw ████. She hasn't seen what she looks like since she was alive and since she is a ghost she cant see herself in mirrors so i figured drawing her was the best i could do for her.
████  liked the drawing but afterwards told me to get rid of it. I didnt understand why and figured keeping it in the notebook would be fine. I dont understand why she wanted me to get rid of it.
I left the drawing in the notebook and when I came back the page was destroyed and ████  seemed upset. I'm sorry, I don't understand what I did wrong. She left to go somewhere in the woods, she didn't tell me where she was going but I'm a little worried, I know she cant get hurt but I wish she would tell me what made her so upset.
Feelings are hard to understand.
Ly eventually came back, she seemed better and when i asked her what i did she just said it's best to not keep anything about her around to keep me safe. I don't understand what she meant but I trust her.
I just wish she would tell me why she needs to be secret.
Hey guys, just wanted to thank everyone who has been enjoying the story so far, i also posted this AU on tiktok along with photos specifically for them, and eventually it will also be on A03. The stories will all be the same obviously, but each platform might have its own hidden things in its specific post so if that's something that interests you my tiktok and A03 accounts will be in my bio. The next post is going to actually be the first chapter in the story and from now on the posting will consist of a log one day and then the next a chapter. Thank You.

Random ask: share something weird/funny/quirky about your creative process (could be writing, could be art) that you've discovered recently and went "huh."
Hi!
I can share a few things, been thinking about my painting process a lot because of the tutorial I'm making, though I don't know if they're unique or anything XD
I spend my doom-scrolling time looking for art references, Pinterest, goggles, I buy a lot of reference packs, whatever for inspiration. Sometimes during a doom-scroll I find a reference that gets my mind working and I have to drop everything immediately and draw it. It basically becomes an intrusive thought until I spit it out in Photoshop. This has been more frequent since going off of my old medications, I got my brain back.
I can not, have never and probably will never make thumbnails or practice sketches because I see the image in my head too clearly. It's not an amorphous concept, I do not feel the need to play with it. (My brother has a similar thing with his music).
I essentially use a bastardised version of the oil painting process when I make my art. And there's a heavy, heavy influence from Baroque styles since I fully admit to being in love with that art style completely. I say this as someone with zero formal training in fine art whatsoever. I just read a lot of books, got hounded by a shiddy partner who gave me a bunch of art-related hang-ups and watched a shit ton of youtube tutorials as I developed my painting process.
I start with a sketch, though when I do this I prefer a white canvas and royal blue (it's a holdover from when I used to scan all my art for digital painting, back when I used a mouse and drew exclusively anime vampire boys). I differ quite heavily from more classical styles here just because I don't like black or dark red for drawing. I still use Loomis though.
I layer values starting with mid-tones and then blocking in darks and lights, though I put them mostly together as opposed to leaving them for last. I always skip the eyes and mouth though, no idea why, it's just a preference.
Then I blur the shit out of it and carve it all back in!
Background colour-main base tones-skin-mouth-eyes-hair-clothing-metalics-background detailing if any is necessary.
I may rely too heavily on references but Vermeer traced using the world's most easy light magic trick so...ner!
Like I have 5 up right now for skintone alone.
I've used the same 3 brushes for the last 9 years and I don't want to change them. I modified their settings to my exact liking over the years and nothing else feels right.
I fix all my main lighting at the end of painting, and even out colour mistakes.
My reliance on chiaroscuro as a crutch, there's so much of that. But it gives skin a glowy effect that I'm obsessed with right now.
I actually love painting hands a lot. So I started painting a lot of hands XD

“Klug is a painter. That's about it to him. He's friends with the local baker, Sig, but a few years ago, he had more friends. One such friend is Amitie, a rookie idol who wants to make her dreams come true. They are not similar in any ways, but perhaps their old friendship will reblossom, or perhaps something a bit more.”
Tumblr media
Fresh from my google documents, this is the (slightly polished) fanfiction, “One Plain Loaf of Bread!” Now for consumption on the site that doesn’t make me gouge my eyes out!
For reference, this is a Steam City Alternate Universe! The Primp kids are 16 years old, or somewhere around that range! Some mentions of other characters!
Which is why, you’re going to give me one plain loaf of bread!”
A painter and a baker stood on opposite sides of a counter. It was around 18:00. The air was calm. The only problem was Klug being louder than usual.
“Mr. Klug, this is a bug themed bakery..we don’t have plain bread.. we’re thrilled to have you here--” Sig’s face was truly thrilling “-- but it’s just not on the menu.”
Klug, upset, slammed his hand on the counter. “It’s just bread, Sig. I need plain bread to use as a model for an upcoming masterpiece! I mean, It’d certainly go well with a window-- wouldn’t it?” He stopped himself before speaking too much, clearing his throat. “Even faux bread will do the trick, Sig. You owe me.”
Sighing, Sig went to grab a single fresh loaf of bread, and plopped it into Klug’s free hand. “There you go…” He mumbled. “Go paint your thing.. I assume in your other hand is--” He picked up the slammed hand to reveal said payment: 5 bronze coins.
With a smug smile of victory, Klug took his bread and left the establishment. He looked around for an adequate vacant house. Luckily there was one close to a rather appealing train station. Klug found those rather interesting, though those usually had people.
Eyes on the prize, he left the loaf on the window, and began the sketch. With most of his work, he sketches the basics; foreground, light background, clouds, and some details. It was the painting part that was rare.
His focused eyes occasionally darted to the train station. How he wished he could paint there, painting the slow moving cogs, perhaps with blurs of people. It’d make for a rather nice landscape.
No, No! Focus! You have to focus, Klug!
Furiously sketching, Klug’s eyes shifted between his canvas and the house. Something’s..changed, he felt, but nothing felt truly different. When he finished, he took a sigh, and looked at his work.
There’s something in the way! A person! A girl, even!
This can’t be good, Klug thinks. This ruins the whole composition! Not very good! The girl was still there, so he called out to her. “You there!” He shouts, looking up from his sketch. “How long were you here?”
The sitting girl got up, with a confused look. “What? You didn't notice me? I’ve been here since the last train arrived! I was watching you draw!” She smiles, waddling over. “Well, I didn’t actually see it until now! You’re really good at it, Klug!”
Obviously embarrassed, Klug lifted his sketchbook, having the drawing face him, obscuring his lower face. “Who said you had permission to look?! You- hey, wait! How did you even know my name! I don’t recognize—“ He yelled, somewhat stumbling over his words.
She frowned. “That’s no way to treat one of your friends! Just ‘cuz you became unemployed and lonely doesn’t mean you have to forget we were once buddies! It’s Amitie! Don’t you remember?”
So this is Amitie? She’s a lot different in cat ears.
“First of all, I’m an AR-TIST! I make money by painting, and I’m the best in this town! And I’m not lonely either! I just spoke with Sig! That’s how I have bread to paint!” Klug points to the now empty window. “...Where’s the bread?”
Munching, Amitie looked at Klug. “Ahhh- might’ve taken it! I was hungry, sorry! But we can always buy some at Sig’s!” She offered. “He makes some good bread!”
Klug sighs heavily. “If you insist, Amitie. We can go for bread at Sig’s” He repeats. As Amitie dragged him, Klug felt a tinge of anger. He figured it was due to not being to finish his “masterpiece”
As the two enter the soon closing bakery, Amitie waves cheerfully. “BA-KER! SIG! WE’RE HERE!” She shouts, not aware of how annoying she is. “I know I offered, but I’m sooorta broke, so maybe you could pay for us, Klug?”
Confused, Klug raised an eyebrow. “Aren’t you like… a stage performer? Wouldn’t you get paid, perhaps by anyone who hires you? You should be at least able to pay for our meal.” He explained, upset. “You.. ARE a stage performer, yeah?”
Amitie nervously presses her fingers. “I a~m. But.. ah-- I don’t have any popularity..soo nobody hires me!” She smiles, in a goofy, innocent, idiot way.
Whatever, Klug would’ve paid anyway. Unlike Amitie he is a responsible Adult (Perhaps in Steam standards, despite being considered a high schooler). He makes money. “Sig, we’ll have the Deloyala guttata decorated Baguette de Pan, s'il vous plait.”
Sig, blankly, nodded. “Yep, baguette, mottled tortoise top, mmhm..” He mumbled. “Y’can pay when it’s ready, glasses..” He vanished into the back, presumably to make said bread.
Klug and Amitie took a seat, Amitie childishly spinning. “It’s super nice of you to pa~ay for us Klug! Especially since I ate your bread! Sorry, by the way!” She spun. “And-- uh-- can I-- uh-- have the drawing you did? It’s super cute and you seem to think it’s not, so-- ah-- gimme!!”
On one hand, Klug HAD no use for it. On the other hand..
He crumpled it up and tossed it over the counter. “It doesn’t serve any purpose. You don’t need it...Oh, look, our food’s here” He diverted Ami’s attention, though she was a little sad.
“Here you go, Glasses, Ami, Mott Top Baguette.” Sig broke the bread and placed it next to the two. “May their journeys be safe.”
Amitie began to eat her half. “Oh gosh, this is so good! Sig really is the best at making these things!!” She exclaimed. “You’re the best!”
Sig smiled, a calm smile. “That’s nothing new. Everyone says that. Thank you, Ami.” He says, still there. Not like he can close up shop with two people still eating. They’re his friends too, right?
Klug ate his half too, watching Amitie with mild interest. Her eating manners are..not refined like the others, or himself for that matter. Despite that, a free hand lightly scribbled her silly eating way, somehow without Klug’s own knowledge.
“What’re you drawing, Glasses? It doesn’t look anything like your usual work..” Sig pointed out.
Excited, Amitie leaned her head over to the page. It was of her eating, in the similar manner she was drawn earlier. “Neat doodle, Klug!”
Once again embarrassed, Klug snapped back to the situation. “I didn’t notice—tch! Must be the lack of interesting scenery getting to me—” Klug mentally berated himself. “Regardless...Don’t get used to it, Amitie! You’re only being drawn because- well- erhm-“
Sig and Ami looked at Klug like he was crazy.
“Maybe it’s a sign of you wanting to draw people.” Sig suggested, looking at the display bread. “Your drawing of Amitie seems good anyway.”
Not sure of what else to say, Klug swallowed and nodded. “Suuure.. She’s...very.. Sketch friendly.” He awkwardly said. “Aaand she can.. Be.. a .. subject..” He trailed off.
Amitie, however, jumped up excitedly. “HOORAY! Klug’s gonna draw me! I bet that’ll attract so many people to my shows!! We can even have it held at the empty performance place near Suzuran Station!” Amitie rambled, throwing an arm over Klug’s shoulder. “You’re the greatest ever!”
Klug wasn’t expecting such a response, it took him by surprise. Well, Klug already knew he was the greatest ever, but hearing it from someone else felt really...good? That’s probably it.
Taking Ami’s wrist, Klug got up. “Come, I know a spot we can try at this hour.” He ordered, pulling her for once.
Sig watched the two leave. “Glasses..didn’t pay the bill.” He confusedly said. “I guess he’s too busy.. Spontaneous.”
As the two made their way towards a particular part of the city, the destination became more apparent. It was a random building’s rooftop, but it had a perfect view of the Massive Clock, which rung for 22:00
“Okay, Amitie.”
Klug began making preparations, moving Amitie’s limbs to see if there’s a pose he liked. Klug never made a planned picture for people, even in the few times he drew them. It wasn’t like Amitie’s special, but it’d be better to catch her AND the clock.
In the end, he positioned her in a way for her back to face him, and her head slightly tilted. Lightly getting a basic shape, Klug made some more minor adjustments, and finally, began work on the clock tower.
Amitie may be the star of whatever show she's on, but to Klug, something far more interesting is the landscape. Every fine detail must be captured, even as the clock’s hand’s move. “What time is best for you, Miss Amitie?”
Amitie, breaking her pose, turned completely back. “Oh! My concerts usually happen around 15:00! Why?”
Upset, Klug ceased his sketch to readjust Amitie. “You know, you sure move a lot. Do you want to be immortalized on paper form or not?” He asked, annoyed. “I suppose this can be a concert advertisement.. Whatever. Hold still from now on.”
Hands taking to the sheets, Klug finalized the clock with the time firmly on the 3. It was now time to finish the backdrop. Time advanced more and more, as Klug went from Backdrop, to Amitie, to working on the painting process. Klug was rather particular about this last part, seeing as so much can go wrong if he’s not careful. He’s..never really painted a whole human person, so he had less eyes on his paper, more so on Amitie, trying to guess what color she’d use under the lighting the clock had.
In the end, Klug decided to give in and just do Amitie slightly brighter than her real life counterpart, despite all the mental warnings. “Amitie! You can look now!” He called, waving to the girl.
“Woaaah..” Amitie gasped. “It’s so...realistic! Nothing like the sketches! You really pour your heart into this Klug! You should really turn this into a job of sorts!” She praised, squealing in cute Amitie noises.
“Amitie, this IS my occupation! You keep saying it’s not!” Klug explained, frustrated. “Regardless, it’s high time for you to sleep. I presume you want to perform tomorrow, so I’ll dry this off and hang it near the train station. Suzuran’s Performance Center, yeah?” He asked, waving a free wrist around.
Amitie nods, very excited. “Yep Yep! It’ll be so much fun! You’ll be there too, right Klug? You WERE a good artist and paid for our food, right?”
Klug didn’t say anything.
“You...You are coming..right?” Amitie asked again, her cheerful nodding now halted, her smile a frown. “Can you? You’ve never shown up to any of them! And I’d really appreciate it if you showed up this time!”
“I don’t need to see the performance. I’ve got work to do, Amitie.” Klug said, sounding not upset, but rather, as if he didn’t care. “You and I have different paths to follow, and it’s not likely we’ll reconnect.”
Amitie saw Klug begin to walk away, and went after him. “Hey, but, we never get to speak anymore! I didn’t even see you until today! I thought it’d be— I thought it’d be… I thought we could finally become friends again! Like we used to be!”
Klug paused while walking, and turned back to Amitie. “We’re not 10 anymore. We all have to do things more important than hang out. I have my job, and you have yours. You understand, right?”
Klug tore out the paper he drew on, the paint having since been dried at least an hour ago. “You can deal with your life, and I can deal with mine.” He said, handing it to Amitie.
“But wait!” Amitie cried out, but it was a bit too late.
Klug began to climb down and return to city level, leaving Amitie on her lonesome. Her performance? Her struggling career? Why should he care, he’s not her friend. That ship has long since sailed. He’s not spending money on something like that anyway.
A part of him was frustrated, angry with how Amitie was back, and only wished for self-gain: the eating of his centerpiece, the thought of the art being for her, the want of an audience…
But another part was... wanting to try to reach out. Did he want to go to a show? He never really enjoyed such. The thoughts were clashing and driving him mad.
While on his way home, another one of his childhood friends stopped him. One he would’ve rather not kept up with. “Hey! Do you know how late it is, Four Ey- I mean- Sir?!” She spat, obviously annoyed. It’s not very good to annoy someone with a weapon.
“..Salutations to you, too, Raffina. Amitie was taking most of my time up while I drew her. Her being fidgety didn’t help.” Klug explained. “Don’t you have better things to do than harass me?”
“Ohoho~” Raffina did her generic noble giggle. “I didn’t even know you still spoke with any of us. I thought you were ‘too good to be shackled to nobodies’ like us.” She mocked, her smile now malicious in nature
“I wasn’t speaking to her out of any desire! It was for business. She and I don’t associate with each other.” Klug argued back. “Amitie’s nothing more than a silly person I was formerly acquaintances with.”
Raffina rolled her eyes. “So you claim” She sarcastically replied. “Tell you the truth, I saw you with her earlier. What business would you have to speak to a customer not once, not twice, but THREE times!”
Raffina prodded a finger at Klug’s chest, knowing the truth was basically all but revealed. “Well, am I right?” She said in a low tone. “Perhaps you’re more of a Sham Artist! Or maybe you’re not as high-and-mighty as you believe yourself to be. What’s the truth, goody-two-shoes!” She continued, her taunting purposefully annoying.
“Hey! I’m not a sham, and I’m at least better than the likes of you! At least I’m not— faux…intimidating!” Klug pushed Raffina away, slowly but surely losing the carefully crafted coolness. “I’ve told you before, I’m a scenery artist! Its beauty can’t compare to any living person!”
Raffina frowned, upset with Klug. Readying her special, golden whip, her glare cutting deeply into the boy, her voice hissed. “You’re lying, I know it. You were never good at pretending. You should just admit you’re a fraud or I’ll have to strike you!” She said, though inreality, she didn’t really have the authority to strike him, but the intimidation was what mattered in the scenario.
“You do- you don’t scare me, Raffina! You’re all bark!” Klug sputtered, trying to stop the conversation. “What are you even trying to get at! What does me hanging with Amitie equate to me being a sham!” He says, trying to come up with increasingly silly excuses. Really makes him sound like Amitie.
With a sigh and a grin, Raffina, for lack of a better term, cracked the whip. “You can just admit it, you know! Just say something, you lousy excuse of a human person!”
Klug bit his lip, trying not to yelp of fear. “Ack!” He squeaked. “I owe you nothing!” He took off, holding onto his sketchpad as he left for his house, wherever that may be.
Setting the pad on the bed table, Klug laid down and sighed. Amitie wasn’t his friend, and nor was Raffina. Why were they even childhood friends in the first place, none of them really connect to each other. Klug tried to remember as he also tried to sleep.
Eight years ago.
That was when Klug’s friend, Sig, introduced him to Amitie. Klug can’t exactly remember when exactly he met Sig, but he definitely remembers meeting Amitie through him. For a brief while, it was just those 3, until Amitie introduced them to Raffina.
Raffina was a lot nicer back then. She was still uppity, but she wasn’t really cruel towards her friends. Soon after, Lidelle came, a friend of Raffina’s and Amitie’s. Klug remembers Lidelle, she occasionally talks to him even now. The only reason both groups were connected were due to Amitie. She united Raffina and Lidelle, and due to her friendship with Sig, Klug joined too.
Amitie was truly a good person, Klug used to think.
6 years ago, they all split. Not because of an accident, but due to them all wanting to pursue different dreams. It just so happens that a Stage Performer and an Artist don’t meet that much. Raffina didn’t entirely believe in Klug either.
Hell, it’s probably her fault Amitie keeps calling him unemployed!
Simpler times.
In the back of his head, Klug thought about Amitie, and the show she asked him to attend. He wasn’t really intending on going, nor did he really want to.
He.. hasn’t seen Amitie in a long time— he’s seen Raffina enough (unfortunately.), and he’s on okay terms with Lidelle and Sig.. but he doesn’t recall seeing Amitie before now since maybe when they were 12 or so.
Tomorrow’s another day, though. He has to make some purchases, anyway.
Amitie was resisting the urge to stick her head out a window. She LOVED trains, and the idea of going from here to there was SUPER exciting! Especially with her greatest friends! Granted, the train was still getting passengers, so it was, well, still.
Raffina sat down with Lidelle, the two trying to see if the light generator made by Witch would work in a bird. Their results: Birds are allergic to light on the inside. They explode.
“M-Miss Ami! We may have a slight problem with how these things work! We might have to cancel the sparkling birds!!” Lidelle panicked. “We have lights working there, right?” She asked, leaning her head to get a better look at Amitie.
“Eh? We’ll have it covered, don’t worry Lidelle!” She smiles, waving to tell her it’ll be okay. “B’sides! As long as you guys can see it, it’s good, right?” She eagerly went to sit with her friends.
Raffina and Lidelle looked at each other.
“...Don’t tell me!” Amitie sniffed.
Raffina cleared her throat. “Well-- I can’t exactly leave the Primp District, it’s my sworn duty to protect it, you know! Suzuran is a lot more dangerous, especially with all the news I hear. It’s rather worrying you’re going yourself..” She continued.
“We- I- It’s what I- well- I even advertised it!” Amitie strung together. “So, everyone has to come, right?” She tried to assure herself, fearing for a repeat of last night.
Lidelle began to try to say something, to even agree to come, but Raffina put a hand on her shoulder. “I-I don’t think I should go, Ami—“ She mumbled. “We’ll work on the birds! I-I wish you the best of smiles in your audience! You’ll be the best performer ever! You-”
“We don’t have time for this; the doors are gonna be closing!” Raffina ordered, dragging Lidelle by the sleeve. “Don’t screw up for us, Ami!” She winked, as the girls left the train. The two maidens let out a sigh of relief.
“I...feel really bad for Ami.. she’s gonna be somewhere dangerous without anyone to protect her! Raffina, you should’ve gone!” Lidelle whimpered, holding her desaturated sleeves to her face. “You wouldn’t want Amitie hurt, o-or perish the thought, killed.. Right?”
Raffina thought about it, looking at the train, seeing the back of Amitie’s head, most likely sulking. “You know as much as I do that I wouldn’t want Amitie hurt.. but she’ll be in the performance center. There’ll be people there.. if she’s attacked, someone will save her. I hope…” She reasoned.
Lidelle pondered, before realizing something. “Do you know if Sig’s going? Or even Klug?” She asked, concerned with her other friend’s safety.
Raffina responded with a blank stare and a monotonous answer; “Why would Klug go? When’s the last time he’s been so much as not rude to us? Just yesterday, he lied like a rug, of course he’s not going.”
Lidelle, tearing up, stepped away from Raffina. “U-uhm, you know, that’s not very..” She quickly blinked away her tears, trying to bring forth her ability to stand up for herself. “That’s mean! You probably don’t know what Klug is going through! He could be in a terrible situation-- o-or he could be really broke-- o-or someone close might’ve died!” She asserts, unaware that the topic of the discussion has gotten on the train.
As the doors shut behind Amitie, she looked at her bickering friend’s. They could’ve at least gotten along before they abandoned her. It doesn’t matter anyway! Amitie will perform for more smiles! It’ll be fine!
A curly redhead scuttled across the train cart, hat bouncing off her head. “Ex-cuse me! Pardon! Is there a “Miss Amitie” on board?” She panted, almost like she changed carts often looking for Amitie.
Amitie raised her hand. “Yep! That’s me! Amitie! I’m gonna become the best-est performer!” Her cheerful disposition returned, almost as if it never left. “Is it another letter from my Teacher?” She thought aloud, bursting with anticipation.
The redhead pulled out a rather fancy looking envelope, handing it to Amitie. “This is actually from someone anonymous! They told me to not disclose their identity, but it’s from them!” She smiled warmly. “It must be lovely to receive secret letters, Miss Amitie. I hope your letter is jam packed with care!”
The girl trotted off, likely to deliver a different letter.
Amitie not-so-carefully opened her own. It wasn’t marked with a paw print, so this definitely isn't a beloved Teacher note. But it’s the contents that matter. Ami’s eyes directed themselves at the top.
The letter, of course, was another one from Arle. Something about being unable to make it, but wishing her the best. Amitie really admired Arle… she was a singer like her, but everyone seems to go where she goes, even if it’s somewhere scary. She even took off when she was 16 years old! Amitie has to be like her, at least she hopes!
“Warm Regards…” Amitie finished, as she smiled. What a nice letter. She put it away.
As the train came to a screeching halt, Amitie hopped off. This was Suzuran District..it’s way cooler than Raffina said it was! Where’s the scary? It’s so modern-er! Even simple folk are cute too, like that running curly drilled girl! Suzuran District! It’s like Primp, but Neater!!
Next to the station was indeed a performance center. Amitie pushed the doors open to let in that sweet Suzuran air. This was indeed the place advertised, wasn’t it? It’s as good as any place, so it’s time to mark it under “used”!
After setting it right smack on the door, Amitie hid behind a convenient curtain. “It’s so exciting to perform...ehehe! I can’t wait for everyone to come. If it was almost 14:30 when I got he- wait what if Suzuran runs at a different time!? I better-- perfor- blwah!”
Amitie fiddled with the backstage, since it wasn’t really supervised anyway. She fiddled with the lights, and even found props! She didn’t need those, anyway.
14:45, the time was coming soon. Amitie took out her partner: a pink little radio that the inventor, Witch, had made. The Radio was special, in that it was more of a modern record player; you’d use it to play already recorded music, rather than tuning in to a station.
14:59, the time was set. Amitie and the radio shaped player stepped onto the stage. There was only darkness, which she had set up herself. With nothing to do, she tapped the microphone, getting a test.
Tapping the microphone caused a spotlight onto her to be cast. In that light, she could see the crowd.. or rather, the audience…
The audience was..empty..
There’s nobody here… none of her friends, none of the people of Suzuran. Did she not advertise it well enough? Did nobody bother? Did Klug write some secret message to say “DO NOT COME SEE THIS SHOW”?
Sniffling, Amitie expected this. Her tears hit her shoes, despite this being a natural outcome. But..she was here anyway, right? She might as well go anyway. The stage is hers.
Amitie turned on the radio, a song starting up with a light sputter. She worried the radio would explode, but.. the music came out fine! A miracle!
She began to sing, words falling like-- well, there’s no metaphor that properly encapsulates how mediocre she is. But it’s that! It wasn’t how good it was or how many people were watching. Despite her crying, she still went on, with her song geared around how much she loved the breakfast meal from a place she went to when she was a kid.
Watching from outside, Klug peaked his head in to see how many people were exactly viewing. As expected, zero. He almost felt bad for Amitie. He also, more importantly, felt insulted that nobody liked the advertisement!
Wait, why does that matter?
Regardless, hearing Amitie go on anyway, drew him towards the performance center itself. Despite its darkness, Klug could tell why nobody came— the place looks like it hasn’t seen actual usage… ever? But yet, there Amitie was: singing her heart out to an audience of now one.
Taking a seat close to the front, Klug hid his head down, watching from an awkward angle. It’s apparently very hard to see her face, or the full view of her cheering and shouting and singing, but at least she can’t see him. His hands were screaming to draw the backdrop behind her, but he didn’t take out the book. He wasn’t here to draw.
Amitie, pausing in the midst of one of the later songs, had gotten a brief glimpse of her audience member. The sweat rolling down her forehead felt as if it was not there anymore… no matter how tired she is, at least there’s somebody!
The general mood of the show changed, as Amitie felt even more full of the passion she had for bringing joy, her smiling even brighter, and how her voice refused to give out— even as she screamed out a lyric in the final song, she would not let herself flop.
By now, Klug was tired of seeing Amitie from an ant eye’s view, so he got himself back into his chair, which was unfortunately when Amitie’s song ended. The girl was panting, almost like she was tired.
“Whew...how was that? Did I put a..smile on your face? I… wow… hah..” Amitie says, smiling at her audience. “You know.. whew.. I can see you… right there!” She goofily points at Klug, who has tried to hide again.
“A-uh- how long did you notice me?! My plan was perfect to sneak in, you airheaded idiot blonde!” He angrily yelled, mostly out of shock. “..how long did you know about me watching..” He mumbled, genuinely curious.
Amitie got down from the stage to the seat in front of Klug’s. “I’m not stupid! Even if I’m clumsy, a little bit forgetful, and not too good at money, I’m perceptive!” She grins. “I noticed since you got here! It made me feel a lot better knowing one of my friends was watching me.” She admits, still staring right at Klug.
The two awkwardly stared at each other, before Klug broke the silence. “You consider me a friend? You don’t need to. You’ve got the other three.” He questioned, despite feeling rather honored that Amitie at least considers him a friend despite them only remeeting again recently.
“Well, of course!” Amitie asserts. “You and I and Sig were friends for a long time, so it’s fair of me to consider you two super duper DUPER close!” She illustrates, lacing her own fingers. “The only way this could’ve been better is if Sig was here!”
Klug sighs. The feeling of importance was fun while it lasted.
“Regardless, I think I’m going to continue being here, you wanna come with, Klug?” Amitie invites, holding a hand closer to Klug’s side of the chairs. “I mean, since you’re here an’all!”
Klug thought about it. This was...like… an outing, right? One two friends would have? Nodding, he took Amitie’s hand. “Ahh..uhmm.. On a few conditions!” He decides, his answer lightening up Ami’s eyes.
“Firstly!! Do not mention this to anyone! You and I being friends shouldn’t be a big deal!… Raffina would never let me hear the end of it.” Klug began.
Amitie nods. “Okey-dokey! A secret it will be! What else is there?”
“Secondly, We start HERE! I want to capture these seats in canvas form!” Klug continued.
Amitie nods. “Oh, sure! We can stay for a while! Want to sit on the stage? It’s got a great view!” She lifts the two of them up, as they went to sit down on the stage.
As Amitie dangled her feet around, Klug cleared his throat for her attention. “And-- thirdly, you’re most likely tired and hungry from your performance, yeah?” He asked, knowing full well Amitie would say she was.
When he got the confirmation, he smugly grinned. “Close your eyes.” He orders, and Ami listens. “Don’t think of it as a ‘gift’ by the way. I just thought you may enjoy a little present to remind you of Sig. You like that, huh?”
Klug handed her one plain loaf of bread. “This was something you stole a while back, and I figured you enjoyed it…” He began.
Amitie readied to snatch it, but restrained herself. “Wow, so you bought it again? For real?” She asked, grateful.
Klug dropped it in her hands, immediately taking out the sketchbook to divert his eyes away from her. “Well- er- whatever! Let me work!”

Beneath Miscellanium - what lay beneath
So, last time I explained what happened in the real world for the first game in my D&D setting. From here on out I'll be exploring things that came up in game, and from there extrapolating onwards to what I want there to be in future games. I'm gonna be focusing on the end state of the campaign, but if even one person asks for more detail there will be no stopping me providing it. Onward and downward!
The City of Miscellanium - An inland city built on a river, surrounded by farmland with some nearby forests. The city is ruled by a Dragonborn Lord Mayor (or possibly a Lord whose surname is Mayor. There was some confusion about this), has a large church devoted to the Cataloguist faith (more on that at a later juncture, hopefully), a unusually sizable public library, and a small wizarding school that probably grew out of studying the main odd thing about the town - small treasures and trinkets periodically appear around the city. Most inhabitants make a habit of giving their house a deep clean every few weeks because there's the chance some coins, a bit of jewelery, a nice vase, a very minor magic item, or something else of that nature has randomly materialized in an un-noticed corner. For centuries this was considered to be a blessing on the town, and traders and travellers would come to buy the weird random stuff.
Turned out the appearing loot was a symptom of strange things happening deep below…
The Sunken King There's a legend in this universe, akin to our King Midas. A ruler who wished for infinite treasures, and an ever-growing castle to protect them. The weight of the gold and the castle eventually became too much and the entire thing was swallowed by the earth.
The being at the bottom of the dungeon wasn't the Sunken King, but may well have been an inspiration, and was called such by many people.
In my original premise, I envisioned the King as being the devine offspring of Tiamat and Asmodeus, a devil-dragon, banished to the mortal realm, who ultimately fell to the consuming greed and evil of his parents. He had lusted after an elven princess, and waged war on all that was good in the land, killing or kidnapping her sisters and dwarven husband, until she eventually submitted to being his bride. This was a trick - she had learned some ancient magic of stonework from the dwarves, and combined with the power gifted by the King so she could stand beside him forever, she cursed him to sleep and wove the dungeon around him, forever digging deeper and drawing in treasures and curiosities to keep him satisfied in slumber for a thousand years. Until some brave heroes discovered the dungeon, and slew the Sunken King.
(This was somewhat inspired by/ripped off of Zelda and Calamity Ganon in Breath of the Wild.)
Looking back at that story, I kind of want to revise it a little. The King still has (well, had, he got killed by a bunch of PCs) divine powers. He's still a dragon. He still looks like a devilishly handsome man with great horns and glittering armour when he wants. And he still claims to be the chosen ruler, the destined some of the queen of all dragons
…but in my re-write, he's worse than a demigod laid low by bio-theo-essentialism. He's an entitled mortal empire builder who should have known better, but chose to be the way he is.
Ordelnax the Just was a gold dragon (taking inspiration from here) whose hoard was a kingdom. He had liberated land from a tyrant, and taken their place as a king, albeit it a reasonably just one. Hence the name. He had made friends and alliances with his neighbours - including a kingdom of elves. He met their many princesses (who I will probably do a post on later because they kind of have a lot of impact on some setting things). He fell in love with one of them, and was disappointed when she did not return the interest, instead marrying a dwarf (a dwarf! of all things! Why would she settle for 4 feet of hair when I have 40 feet of glorious scales?!).
So, he goes and festers a bit on that, before being visted by an angelic messenger. The gods have chosen him - the mortal realm has gotten too chaotic, there are too many tiny kingdoms fighting over too many things. He will be given power, and the duty of bringing it all to heel under one rule - his rule.
(I am currently imagining that this may have come from a cabal of gods, some of whom were 100% down for colonialist assholery, some of whom were a bit naive about how this would turn out. Bahamut is in here. As a god of justice, gotta hope he's part of the naive half)
So, we've got an empire growing under the rule of a shining beacon of justice and might, bestowed a quest from the gods themselves to bring all of creation to heel - and he's still lusting after the girl that got away. Not a healthy situation. Not helped when Asmodeus and Tiamat offer to back him. Maybe with a wager? They'll throw their divine might behind him, and if he takes all the lands, he gets to keep them and have his elven princess. If he fails, they get his soul. Or something.
So he signs up. Ordelnax ramps up the empire-building. He threatens the lands of elves and dwarves. Enemies fall before him, divine and hellish power allowing him to slay, enslave, or both, as he pleases. Until the princess has enough, comes to meet him, and curses the both of them into an eternal dream-dungeon.
But all that's in the past. What impact is this supposed to have on the setting now?
Yeah, fair point. The Sunken King was slain by adventurers, but I'm thinking that Ordelnax the Just Emperor is a figure that most in the world don't think of as the same being - few would know of his devil-dealing and nice-guy-syndrome-ing. So perhaps to some he is a Julius Ceasar - a mighty statesman laid low for the betterment of the empire he built. Or a King Arthur, who will one day return to save his subjects. A saint of the god Bahamut (who is maybe too embarassed to mention what he actually got up to). Somebody whose symbol modern asshole colonialist empire builders can rally around.

As a small apartment dweller, you may be struggling with how to make your space feel cozy and put together. One simple solution is to incorporate rugs into your design scheme. Rugs not only add warmth and texture to a space, but they can also define zones and create visual interest. In this article, we will go over some tips and tricks for incorporating rugs into your small apartment.
Benefits of Incorporating Rugs
Before we dive into the details of incorporating rugs into your small apartment, let’s take a moment to discuss the benefits of using rugs in your home. Here are a few reasons why you should consider incorporating rugs into your design scheme:
Rugs add warmth and texture to a space, making it feel cozy and inviting.
Rugs can define zones in a room, creating distinct areas for different activities.
Rugs can serve as a focal point in a space, drawing the eye and adding visual interest.
Rugs can absorb sound, making your apartment feel quieter and more peaceful.
Rugs can protect your floors from wear and tear, especially if you have hardwood or tile floors.
Now that we’ve established why rugs are a great addition to any small apartment, let’s discuss some tips and tricks for incorporating them into your design scheme.
Choose the Right Size Rug
When it comes to choosing a rug for your small apartment, size matters. A rug that is too small will look out of place and won’t do much to define the space. On the other hand, a rug that is too large can overwhelm a small room and make it feel cluttered. So, how do you choose the right size rug for your space?
One general rule of thumb is to choose a rug that is large enough to fit all of your furniture on top of it. This will help anchor the furniture and create a cohesive look in the room. If you have a small living room, for example, a 5×7 or 6×9 rug may be the perfect size.
Layer Rugs for Visual Interest
Another way to incorporate rugs into your small apartment is to layer them for visual interest. This technique works especially well in open-concept spaces where you want to define different areas without putting up walls. For example, you could layer a small, colorful rug on top of a larger, neutral rug in your living room to create a cozy conversation area.
Mix and Match Patterns
If you’re feeling bold, try mixing and matching different rug patterns in your small apartment. This can add visual interest and make your space feel more eclectic and unique. However, it’s important to keep a few things in mind when mixing and matching rug patterns:
Stick to a color scheme. Make sure the rugs you choose all share a common color palette, so they don’t clash with each other.
Vary the scale of the patterns. To keep things from looking too chaotic, mix patterns of different scales. For example, pair a large, bold floral rug with a smaller, more subtle geometric pattern.
Define Zones with Rugs
As we mentioned earlier, rugs can help define zones in a room, which is especially important in a small apartment. For example, you could use a rug to create a distinct dining area in your studio apartment. Choose a rug that is large enough to fit your dining table and chairs comfortably, and make sure it contrasts with the rest of the room to create a clear separation.
Use Rugs to Add Color
If your small apartment is feeling a bit drab, consider adding a colorful rug to brighten things up. A bold, colorful rug can serve as a focal point in a neutral space, adding visual interest and personality. Just be sure to choose a rug that complements your existing decor and color scheme. If you have a lot of cool tones in your space, for example, consider a rug with warm tones to create a sense of balance.
Use Rugs to Hide Imperfections
Finally, if your small apartment has less-than-perfect floors, rugs can be a great way to hide imperfections. A rug can cover up scratches, stains, and other blemishes, making your space look cleaner and more polished. Just be sure to choose a rug that is large enough to cover the area you want to hide, and that complements the rest of your decor.
Conclusion
Incorporating rugs into your small apartment is an easy and effective way to add warmth, texture, and visual interest to your space. By choosing the right size rug, layering rugs for visual interest, mixing and matching patterns, defining zones with rugs, using rugs to add color, and using rugs to hide imperfections, you can create a cozy and stylish home that feels just right for you.

What do you do when there’s not much to an AU? You make up your own stuff, ofc. And as is per usual when I make Character Designs, I make up a shit ton of lore too.
The ramblings under the cut, but what I’m really interested in, is what you guys think. Do you guys have any headcanons/ideas for this AU? Let me hear them! Also, if you don’t wanna read on tumblr, here’s the Google Docs link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/151yshHxnb_--P6eMKkwkI2dee9xC_Llb/view?usp=sharing
Before I get into the characters’ roles, here’s some general facts and backstory of their town:
- Basically, it’s Undertale meets Harvest Moon / Stardew Valley. Well, kinda. I at least used that approach for coming up for the jobs for the characters. You know, how there’s always a general store, a doctor, a smithy, etc.
- The usual story of a HM game is that you come to a town that’s way past its glory days and you, as the player/farmer, help them get back to that. The “backstory” of the town is that that already kinda happened. I’ll get into it more in the character description, but basically when Asgore was still mayor, the town got really popular. Then yadda yadda, a certain tragedy happened, two kids died, and the town suddenly got very bad publicity. There was a lot of stuff going on back then, bad reputation being spread and also a lot of law stuff, cos, you know, supposed child murder ‘n all, so Asgore made the decision to shut off the town to ppl from outside. This was in the interest of most monsters living there, because as fun as it is to have a lot of people coming there, most just wanted to live a quiet life. Not everyone was happy with that though, so many moved away from town and some others are trying to get the town back on its feet. But more on that later.
On to the characters:
I’m just gonna start with the skelebros, cos it’s their fault in the first place I got so invested.
Basically, they are what the player is in hm/sdv. They just showed up one day, took over the abandoned farmhouse and began their life there. The two came to town way after it was “closed” and since then a new mayor has opened the possibility for new residents to move in. Their farm helps the economy of the town a lot and the mayor, like usually in hm games, is trying to use that to make the town more known again. The skelebros aren’t really working towards that goal however.
So, now a bit more detail on them individually.
Papyrus:
- The design is mostly based on what’s “canon” in this au.
- He works mostly on the fields and is in charge of the crops. Their fields aren’t spectacularly big, but still big enough to plant a few dozen rows of veggies.
- Paps also helps out a lot in town when he has the time. He helps Asgore with his plants, he goes fishing with Undyne, helps Toriel carry crates around and so on. This is inspired by the part-time job mechanic in HM ToT.
- Unbelievably, in this AU Pap is not an absolutely awful cook. Since he helps out at Muffet’s and Grillby’s a lot, they tend to show him some tricks to cooking. Even though Pap’s not a big fan of the greasy or overly sweet cooking those two do, he picks up a lot.
Sans:
- Again, design mostly based on the “canon” look. Maybe a bit more baggy.
- This is finally an AU this dude gets to rest. Since there are no resets and he doesn’t have to see his bro die again and again, for once in his life, he’s not a sad ball of depression. He’s just a chill and lazy dude that loves to make puns. Though, since he’s not too experienced with the feelings of loss, helplessness or grieving, he still tends to hide behind puns and fakes smiles if he does feel bad.
- Sans is in charge of the animals on the farm. Papyrus begrudgingly gave him that role since Pap’s loud demeanour and hectic movements usually scare the animals. Sans’ relaxed attitude draws the animals to him naturally and even if Pap mostly finds him sleep against a tree, in a stack of hay or on one of the sheep, the animals are always fed, healthy and relaxed, so Sans seems to be doing his job.
- Sans always has a small chic sit inside his hoodie or hat. Is it always the same one? Who knows, maybe.
- Sans also, somehow, can produce eggs out of thin air. Grab into his hoodie pocket, in his pants pocket, in his hat, in his slipper, there’s suddenly always an egg there. On good days he can even make butter or cheese appear.
Gaster:
- He’s literally just a scarecrow in this. Though, if you ask any of the bros why they designed their scarecrow that way, they won’t have an answer.
Frisk&Toriel:
- Frisk is mostly based on what I wore myself as a kid in summer. Just a loose shirt with a cappy. Toriel basically has her ut gown, just with an apron on top.
- Frisk just appeared outside the “magical” forest one day. Napstablook and his cousin found them and brought them to Toriel, who has been taking care of them since.
- Toriel runs the general store in town, but also often takes care of the few kids that still live there.
- Frisk usually helps out in Toriels store, plays with the other kids or sits around at Asgore’s. They’re notorious for nabbing small snacks, mostly from Asgore’s plants. You’ll always find them munching on something.
- Frisk was in town before the skelebros. Since they’d moved in, Frisk often went to spy on their farm. After a small incident with angry chicken, Frisk got to know the two better and now they see them as something between brothers and uncles.
- But Frisk honestly gets along with everyone. Just like in UT, they’ve not only been adopted by Toriel but literally everyone.
- Toriel and Asgore’s relationship is not as bad as in the main game, since, you know, Asgore didn’t kill literal children, but there’s still tension between them. Back when Asriel and Chara died and the whole thing with the bad rep for the town began, Toriel felt betrayed by Asgore focusing more on the town than giving their deceased kids the grieving they deserved. They’re not divorced, but Toriel still moved out and said needed space to think. Now that Frisk is in the picture though, the both of them are slowly coming to even ground and may even be able to talk things out and clear up the uncertainty of their decisions.
Asgore:
-Asgore has his UT Ending / Deltarune clothes, just with a gardener’s belt.
- He’s the previous mayor of the town, but after all the crap that happened, he stepped down from the position. Now he has his own little shop and sells seeds, saplings, homegrown veggies and fertilizer. So, basically what e.g. the Marimba Farm is in HM AP
- His main customer is Papyrus and they’re on friendly terms. Asgore is worried about how much and how hard Pap works, so he often gives him a discount.
- Since his family’s past tragedy, Asgore is kind of nervous around kids. So, when he first met Frisk, he hoped they’d not visit him too often. But to his chagrin, Frisk took an instant liking to him and spends a lot of time at his shop (and steals eats the fresh grown veggies). Now, he’s really grateful for that, because for one, he loves Frisk as dearly as he had his own children, and also because now the tension and mistrust between him and Toriel seem to grow smaller day by day.
Undyne&Alphys:
- I gave Undyne a pretty basic fisher’s outfit. Alphys basically has Elli from HM’s outfit, just a bit more doctory stuff added. She still has her canon lab coat too.
- In essence, Undyne and Alphys have 2 completely different jobs. Alphys is the resident doctor and Undyne runs the fish market.
Two things. Yes, I know Alphys is more a mechanic than a doctor, she fits the aesthetic though, so she’s the doc now. And no, Undyne being a fisherwoman is not cannibalism, think of it more as a shark hunting smaller fish.
- The reason I lump them together is because they act as the local “smithy”. Alphys is still really tech savvy in this (I mean, Mettaton is still part of this AU), so she takes on most problems with electronics and stuff. For Undyne, I didn’t want to lose her Royal Guard’s Captain image, so she’s really good at handling tools (and weapons, but Al doesn’t let her make them anymore). So basically, if there’s a broken tool, you can be sure that either Undyne or Alphys can fix it.
- As for relationships, those two are still an item. Alphys is still really shy and a shut-off, but since Undyne and Pap become best friends, she gets to know the skelebros better. She and Sans especially get along well, since most of the time Undyne and Papyrus are let loose, they sit back and talk about science-y stuff. (no, Sans doesn’t have a background in science but he’s still into sci-fi)
- Alphys has a bit of a strained relationship with both Asgore and Mettaton.
Back when Chara and Asriel died, it was because of “illness” (maybe poisoning?). Alphys feels awful because with her back then limited knowledge on medicine she couldn’t help the two. Asgore doesn’t hold anything against her but Alphys can’t help but feel guilty.
Alphys still built Mettaton’s body in this one. The two had a really big disagreement, because Mettaton hated the fact the town was going to close, and he couldn’t understand how Alphys could feel otherwise, even more so endorse the idea.
Mettaton, Napstablook, Mad Dummy/Mew Mew:
- Napsta and Dummy are pretty self-explanatory, they got straw hats. Mettaton’s outfit is a bit of a joke cos it’s a play on “work at the top and party at the bottom”. The tie has two different sides, one with the yellow red pattern, the other completely red. His “top part” is the business part, because when he’s on tv or in the mayors’ office, you don’t usually see his feet. The bottom is his party/dance part, cos his dancing/entertainment channels mostly feature his legs.
- Mettaton, still a robot, Napstablook and Mad Dummy are all still cousins in this AU.
- Originally, they all lived and worked at the Blook Farm, the Animal Farm of this AU. Mettaton, however, despised that simple live and after befriending Alphys and her building him a body, he left the Farm to pursue bigger things.
- Mettaton runs the local tv network. From weather to game shows, he does it all. He also runs the tailor shop in town that sells his designer clothes and merchandise. After Asgore stepped down, Mettaton also took over the role of town’s mayor and now works towards making the place more known again. Not everybody is happy with him doing that though.
- One of those people is the Mad Dummy. He can’t stand people anyways and he always claims that history would just repeat itself.
- Since the whole family is made of ghosts, they have different dummies and scarecrows they can use to take care of the animals. To mock Mettaton and kinda get back at Alphys for giving MTT such an opportunity, Mad Dummy found the blueprints for the Mew Mew robot and now modelled one of their scarecrows after it.
- Napstablook isn’t fond of taking over obejcts like his cousins do, so he mostly takes care of the snails. Somehow, he can interact with them even when incorporeal.
Muffet&Grillby:
- The two of them run the Inn together. Muffet cooks in the daytime and makes desserts, Grillby manages the bar in the evening.
- The two still can’t really stand each other but working together like this benefits them both because their rivalry just spurs them on more.
- Even though Grillby is a patient person, somehow Muffet is the only person who riles him up enough to retaliate. (Well, maybe except for Sans, he’s a strong second).
So, basically everything between those two is a challenge in some way. Even if Papyrus doesn’t notice, even his cooking lessons are a challenge for them.
- Even though they’re constantly bickering, after working together for so many years, there’s a strange level of respect and trust between them. Even if back when they first started this business, they’d pour salt into an already open wound, nowadays they’d know better and just take a step back from the other or even comfort the other (on very rare occasions only).
Asriel&Chara:
- They be dead. Kinda.
Some Characters that’d live in that town too but that I haven’t made designs for:
- Gerson is the original smithy of the town. He’d grown up in a family of smiths, but he’d always had an appreciation for the sea. That’s why, when the town became more deserted and Undyne had a good enough skill level as smith, he took up the Captains hat and now mostly spends his days out on sea. He also ferries people to places if they need him to. Oh, and just like in canon, Undyne learned most of her skills from him.
- Burgerpants is a poor dude Mettaton basically kidnapped when he was trying to get fame in the city. Now Burgerpants works wherever MTT needs him to, be that as cameraman for the tv shows, cashier in his tailor shop or his slave secretary in the mayor’s office.
- MK is Frisk’s best kid friend. MK’s parents are in charge of shipping the goods out of town and paying the individual people. MK’s the one that usually collects the goods at the end of the day.
- Other than that, there are only a few people in town. I’d imagine the older folks or the really young families stayed in town after it was closed. I think the librarby dude would still run the library. Some Snowdin residents like the stone family or the dogs also might still live there.

Don’t ask me why I made this, just know that I’m right and this is not just a Headcanon post but real. It’s not me having brain worms haha that would be insane. Honestly I just started thinking about how the hell arc introducing Seireitei approved social media would be such a mistake but god would it be fun to watch.
The Current Captains On Social Media
Shunsui Kyoraku - Failed erotic novel author turned romance/erotic novel reviewer. The fan base for his work is very small compared to his actual following. There is some divide in his followers—those who follow for his life updates and those who want to hear him talk at length about his latest read. Funnily enough, his quick, messy posts usually paired with scenery or a selfie are his most popular writing, often hailed as snippets of his poetic soul. Lots of people want to give him a hug.
Soi Fon - Adamant privacy and safety poster. Took to code and anti-virus technology well, much to Mayuri’s annoyance. Posts tips and tricks that read more like demands. Is known for her bitchy responses when followers @ her with their progress that are eaten up gratefully. Her advice is punctuated by posts admiring athletic women and these women make up the bulk of who she follows. She seems to admire runners and lifters the most. Her threatening posts when people hit on her too hard/with too many notes to back them up are turned into copypastas.
Rose Otoribashi - Has one of the larger followings thanks to his nostalgic visuals as well as his dedication to frequently posting new music. He has a personality that’s easily digestible when viewed through snippets. The fact that his passion is music and his job is news/editing also do him a lot of favors. He loves doing live streams and encourages his followers to perform for & with him.
Isane Kotetsu - Her growth being captured on social media not just as a captain but as a person has given her a fan base that feels extremely protective of her. She’s less known for what content she brings and more for her personality. Any creative content she posts is likely to start trending. Especially her ‘peaceful morning’ videos and reflective writing. She’s one of the more interactive posters, beloved for her encouraging responses.
Shinji Hirako - As a more private person, he doesn’t have much of a following and his most popular posts are candid moments posted by others. Lisa is a large reason people consider him endearing in anyway. Definitely the kind of person who is either considered cringe or cool with little in between. The kind of guy who asks what he should do with his hair and then goes with an option that wasn’t listed.
Byakuya Kuchiki - Has an extremely scheduled and curated presence on any site he’s on, but is nonetheless adored. He used to ask Renji and Akon for advice on how to handle some of the more online behavior (like being @ed by women who photoshop them as their date to events or being asked how many notes a date would cost) but stopped quickly. Turns out saying something is flattering leads to more of that behavior. Any selfie he posts is edited and reposted into oblivion until it’s thousands of people’s pfp.
Tetsuzaemon Iba - Despite him being one of the most well rounded captains personality wise, he gets put onto block lists the most for his dedication to concepts of manliness, which are easy concepts to feed to the social media outrage machine. Women’s Association vs Men’s Association is a popular meme where the former is something sensible and the latter is something ineffective/archaic. That being said, he’s also known as a ‘problematic fav’ and people will often post memes about abandoning their feminism for a few minutes to like his selfies and training videos.
Lisa Yadomaru - Another captain with a large love and hate following. Often picked apart for interacting with porn/hentai accounts, thirsting after women openly, and posting pictures alluding to her sexual escapades. Despite her account being regular food for the outrage machine, she doesn’t seem to care or pay attention to it and is forever horny on Main. She posts a lot of candid photos/videos of her friends. Recommends the best fucked up fiction.
Kensei Muguruma - Of course he does cooking videos, but what really does well are his cooking challenges. He forces his lieutenant, friends, and colleagues to compete with him on making a better dish on a time limit and often with other handicaps. Usually wins. His bloopers get a ton of mileage when he posts them. His merch is constantly sold out. People often dress up as him for Halloween/conventions, usually with foam or blow up arms/abs.
Toshiro Hitsugaya - Another captain with a huge following due to him approaching social media with his tireless work ethic. His ice sculptures are very popular and his pop-up galleries sell out in hours. Is actually a huge fan of ‘cozy’ games and is known for having beautiful towns/farms/ect that showcase his attention to detail. He does events in Minecraft sometimes, where he guides people through building large scale projects (and also feels like he’s making friends but that’s left entirely unsaid). A bit harsh, but beloved.
Kenpachi Zaraki - People question if it’s really his account because it’s so random at times, but he posts videos of him mowing down his subordinates during training so it has to be. The odd content includes engaging with easy recipes & activities for toddlers and increasingly complicated punk hairstyles that he really does try out. He also posts weekly, asking for people to volunteer and fight him. The human world especially loves this and he gets a lot of responses. He tries to set up times to fight them but Nanao threatens to delete his accounts and put him on suspension if he attempts to follow through. He posts a lot of post-battle pictures and humans gobble it up. “Just fought *insert ridiculous thing here*” is a huge meme.
Mayuri Kurotsuchi - He is constantly making new accounts and circumventing bans for posting links to his old lab work, that often involves heinous amounts of gore. Actually does have a following, often from those within his own division, those hoping to be in his division, or humans who see him as edgy and a little bit off his rocker, which they think is cool. He posts pictures of himself whenever he switches up his look. And posts Nemuri a lot with unhinged captains about how she’s going to outpace even the head captain and no one could make someone as special & smart as her. Just comes off as a really passionate dad. Plenty of people are convinced he’s a creepy pasta project ran by a dude with a daughter.
Rukia Kuchiki - Like Isane, she’s really loved for who she is rather than creative content. Even her attempts at being stern and ‘captain-like’ are fawned over. She has a line of children’s books, stickers, and notebooks with her cute drawings. Her most popular set was when her daughter contributed. The human world is convinced Renji is her house husband and her life is generally seen as all around ‘goals’. Her posts are riddled with mistakes and very sporadic; she’s posted accidental live streams while she did paperwork and they went viral. She posts tons of candids of her subordinates and family but they are usually blurry or actually videos.
