I've never listened to this song but I'm braining it a little too well.

Simon "Ghost" Riley had never learned how to love.

Ever since he was a child he never understood what love was for. His father loved his mother. But he always hit her and his children. If that was his affection, if that was love, the love first of all ust have hurt a lot. Both to give and recieve.

When he was around middleschool he was surrounded by people talking about love. Their crush, their first girlfriend or boyfriend, how the kissed, sometimes even how they fucked. Ads on the streets showing engagement rings, cinema trailers for romace films, even the few chocolates he had the luck to buy on special occasions was filled with sweet and lovely words.

Yet what he learned, from seeing love in first person and what it was described as, never matched in his eyes. So when he got in the military he just ignored all the chit chat about dudes who had girlfriends, spuses or even wifes. He just closed himself from the external world, hoping to never copy his parent's behaviour.

After all why would you hit someone you love? Why would you one day try to end their lives and the next one pray the be forgiven. Why should someone like that be forgiven.

He spent years of his life suffering in the SAS. First the selection, then the training and then Roba. That was where he learned what love was. Being woken up every day by the same person. Being so dedicated to someone you wake up every day for them. That was hate love. He could stll live under Roba's torture because it was full of hate love.

Years passed after that. A the start he was cared for by Price, who treated him more like a friend than a subordinate, and he always said because he actually was also his friend. He never believed him.

Years went by, all full of nothing but dedication to his job.

Years went by and he learned who "Soap" was.

Days went by and in little time he became Johnny.

Hours went by and thye could only trust each other.

Hours went by and he was smiling at him under the mask.

Hours went by and be damned the mask, he needed his friend's trust more than anything now.

Hours went by and Johhny killed Graves.

Hours went by and he saved Johnny.

Hours went by and they finally kissed. Once. Twice. In that shitty hotel room, with yellow lights, a screaching bed too small for both of them and walls as thin as paper. But fuck it, in that moment all he wanted was Johnny. So he could comprehend that he... Desired him, wanted him, admired him, wanted to open his own ribcage to protect him.

But that wasn't love. Love was something else.

He learned it from observing and what he had for Johnny was not love.

It was so much better.
