Tell me how does it feel When your heart grows cold? How does it feel? How should I feel? Tell me how does it feel To treat me like you do?
#aliasedit#alias#irina derevko#julian sark#userthing#irina x sark#irina x khasinau#isplus#myedit#that sark/khasinau gif... the pure hatred in khasinau's eyes... INSANE.#khasinau feeling threatened by a 20 year old will NEVER not be funny. i mean he was right. he was literally right. right about everything.#he knew that irina was planning on killing him and that sark was counting on her to do it. knew that sark was on his way to replacing him.#knew that irina and sark were already making plans together - plans that did not involve him in any way.#and it's insane to think about how he probably watched sark grow up. probably knew him as a child.#probably didn't take him seriously - didn't see him as a threat - until it was too late.#and after he realized what was happening - he also realized how many chances he had to put a stop to it.#and how it wouldn't have mattered anyway. killing sark in his sleep when he was ten years old wouldn't have fixed anything.#irina would've just started all over again with someone else. because she had always intended to replace him with someone younger.#with someone who had no life before her. with someone EASILY impressed EASILY manipulated EASILY led.#the reason why she'd choose sark over khasinau - khasinau who she first met when she was eighteen;#khasinau who was her kgb superior; who followed her into the criminal world;#who chose her over his past over his family over his country over every single person in his life;#who stayed by her side in her shadow now content with following HER orders -#the ONLY reason the ONLY explanation possible is that she was there to follow sark's progress from the very beginning.#she was there when he saw a gun for the first time in his life. and she was there when he first killed someone.#she was there every step of the way. and she knows him better than he knows himself.#and she'd choose sark over khasinau because khasinau knows what it's like to have power over her and use that power against her.#and putting him in a situation where he might be tempted to again is unthinkable. he might remember what it's like - to have freedom.#sark doesn't want freedom from her. she made sure of it. surrendering to the cia when it's sark on the outside is a better option.#like who would you choose. someone you made from clay all by yourself or someone who used to control your life when you were eighteen.

If I see one more person say Kate & Maya have no blame in this I might scream.
He went to rehab and got out last year sober. She continued to drink around him, go party (spend his money and seek attn every chance she got) tell me how a recovering addict fresh out of rehab is going to resist temptation when the gf is CONSTANTLY DRINKING.
I’m sorry but your partner who you love sooooo much is fresh out of rehab has severe addiction issues tried AGAIN to do rehab( sadly at that point I think he was so far gone, he checked out after two days) and she STILLLLLLL didn’t change up behaviour. Still kept alcohol around still stayed with him, before he got REALLY bad. Then left him in a foreign country with Fckn Roger who clearly had no issues with Liams addictions until he abandoned him drug induced in a (shady)hotel room without alerting authorities. But she left him there knowing the label and management had recently dropped him knowing he clearly was still not ok. I DONT CARE that he was a grown man and made his own decisions. He clearly wasn’t capable of that.
Maya has every hand in this damn situation. She threw the man off a cliff into a pack of fckn rabid wolves ( the Internet) when she reopened the publicity and hate train over her dumb ass book. Nothing anyone says will change my mind on her part in this. Man had lost management and label and she dragged up publicity over a book that had died. Shr wanted him to leave her alone THE MAN WAS SCREAMING FOR HELP. & she couldn’t keep his name out of her mouth. She wanted attn. she had her space to talk about her issues. She did that when it dropped then brought it all back up and brought One D into the mix…. After knowing what one d fans and the internet had done to Liam after fully knowing his mental health and addictions while knowing he wasn’t ok. Girlie straight pushed every button she needed. And when we go back further she’s no better than Kate in terms of alcohol and drugs. Enabled him constantly drinking with and around him, constantly needing to party and get attn. and I’ve seen more than a few times she’s had drug problems as well. But she’s so innocent.
I am utterly sick of people saying he did this himself he chose his actions. NO his past and traumas and the issues and actions of those around him for the last few years did this. He wouldn’t have been in that state had the above not been an issue. Had the people in his every day immediate life for the last so many years been better fckn people and actually cared. His problems didn’t start the day he passed. He in truth had been LONG gone for quite a few months. The fact he was able to get that far gone that soon after rehab, last year is so messed up. He wasn’t alone in this he had “supportive” people every day Roger and Kate his team …. He came out of rehab clean and wanting a fresh start. The people in his life FAILED HIM. His family knowing and trying to help they didn’t live with him to see his every day. They knew and tried to help but when those in youre daily life are failing and enabling you and he was as gone as he’d been for months……
This was all preventable in every single way. I’ll never stop saying it. It was utterly senseless. I’m so angry more than any other emotion. And as heart broken as I am. In some way I’m glad he’s gone. I don’t know that things could’ve gotten any worse than what’s come out but I do know at least now the leeches and fame sucking people he had around him daily can all go to hell and can’t abuse and use him. No one can hurt him anymore. Man’s at peace and that’s more than they’ll ever be.

No, hold on, I'm actually mad about this now (again).
Like, I just want everyone to stop and think about how completely nonsensical this version of Leon that's being pushed actually is.
So, he's a blonde second-generation Italian guy (despite the fact that him being so aggressively American is a running gag in OG RE4) named Scott Kennedy (because that's not ridiculous on its face already. Also he spends literally every single moment of his adult life outside of RE4 making sure that his roots never show because ??) who is the most naive motherfucker on the planet going into RE2 despite the fact that he grew up in a mafia family. Said mafia family, by the way, was murdered by a rival gang, and the only memento Leon has of his late father is a Zippo lighter that he then, later, as an adult, got the RPD logo engraved on. Because fuck sentimental value, actually, I guess.
He hits on every pretty woman who crosses his path, except it's just a joke and for funsies and he doesn't actually sleep with any of them or even want to, and when he tells Shen May he wants to take her out and doesn't care that she has a boyfriend, that's completely innocent and in no way reflects badly on him as a complete and total scumbag. His arrested development at age 21 and his brain being frozen permanently in 1998 paired with his extreme loneliness caused by forced isolation are just accessories for window dressing, actually, and have absolutely no bearing on his personality because he's just a clueless well-meaning introvert at heart who accidentally stumbles on the scummiest shit to say to women sometimes, but it's ok because he's doing his best.
Also, despite being an obnoxious do-gooder and perfect student, he was late to his first day of work at the RPD because he irresponsibly got drunk over being dumped by a girl that is never mentioned or even alluded to at any point during his character arc.
But he's definitely not a slut.
Not only that, but he's said to be one of the smartest people in the cast ("practically a genius," Ada calls him in a report) and yet he hero worships and unconditionally trusts and respects the man who kidnapped him off the streets outside of Raccoon City and held a gun to his surrogate daughter's head and ruined both of their lives.
All of this makes sense. This is definitely 100% the true intended interpretation of Leon S. Kennedy and is in no way a bunch of bullshit slapped together with no evidence for it in canon.
This absolutely makes way more sense than the interpretation of:
Leon has no canonical backstory but is so aggressively American that it's a running gag in OG RE4 (he's literally called "The American pig" at one point), so chances are he had a really mundane upbringing by parents who are part of families that have been in this country for several generations past already. He was an honor roll student who got top marks in police academy and specifically chose to apply to and join a police force in a city that had a gruesome serial killer investigation on-going because he has something to prove.
(Also, he's only blonde in one singular title out of the ten that he's appeared in because his natural hair color is, in fact, actually brown.)
In his stubbornness, he pushes Claire away because he's still trying to prove something to everyone and also himself by insisting that he'll be fine taking care of Sherry on his own. This hubris born from insecurity bites him in the ass when he gets snatched off the street by faceless CIA goons and forced into being trained to and actually performing the government's dirty work.
His captivity, forced isolation, and personal failures in and just after Raccoon City have dealt a massive blow to his sense of self-worth and his self-image, creating a desperately lonely man who has the maturity of a 21 year old well into his late 20s and 30s. This causes him to pursue superficial, physical relationships with women, because he fears being vulnerable enough to actually open up to anyone emotionally. Unfortunately, all of these little details culminate in some self-sabotaging and scumbag behavior, up to and including being an outright homewrecker, unconcerned with whether a woman he's trying to fuck has a boyfriend or is married or whatever -- as evidenced by his interaction with Shen May.
His self-isolation and depression get even worse later in life when an outbreak occurs in Tall Oaks, and he's forced to shoot and kill one of the only people who's ever cared about him -- a military officer turned president whose goals and values align with Leon's own, and who genuinely values his company and expertise and takes his (Leon's) emotions and trauma seriously. Adam Benford can't undo the damage that was done by Leon's capture and forced servitude, because he can't go back in time and he wasn't even there when it happened, but he did give Leon hope for a brighter future.
^^^^^ THIS??? ^^^^^ is using information that is strictly found in the games and CGI movies -- and does not conveniently omit any other details about him (other than the whole Ada thing, but like -- that's irrelevant to the point I'm trying to make). It is the whole picture of Leon as the games paint him and nothing else. THIS is what the intended canon for him is.
NONE OF THAT OTHER BULLSHIT is in the games, because none of that other bullshit makes sense -- which should be really fucking evident to anyone paying attention, especially now that it's been written out in full.

Exiled in Seoul
TW for mentions of dramatic weight loss.
Sera was completely oblivious. Not by her own doing, as she didn't know. Most people would perhaps find it odd that it became a very common occurence to have the police visit your parents home, but it was explained away. Her father was in the finance industry, and he didn't have control over what every single one of his clients did. There had been a few times in the past where a client began using his services for illegal activities, and he had been cleared of any knowledge every time. In fact, Sera could easily recall a time where the police seemed to show up almost every other day to gather information on a specific client. Her father ended up testifying at the man's trial, even. So all she assumed was it was simply another case of a terrible client.
That's exactly what her parents wanted her to believe, too. They fed into the assumption before she could even ask one day. Her parents had given her an entire explanation that made it seem that way. It happened before, so surely it could've happened again, right?
Sera wasn't home when her world began cracking. She was out at a cafe when a friend of her parents called her, letting her know that the police had arrested her parents. It was a call that was followed only fifteen minutes later by the police themselves, asking her to come in for questioning. That was a much more terrifying call than the first, but one she was much quicker to respond to.
That first day of questioning seemed to go easily enough, with simple questions being asked of what she knew. Which was nothing. An answer that they clearly weren't satisfied with by the third round of questioning. The same questions were met with the same answers, her own emotions growing as their frustration became more obvious each time. After all, it was hard to believe that she knew nothing while spending thousands on a weekly basis.
It was true, though. If there was one thing her parents did for her sake, they didn't let her in on their illegal scams. Ever since she could remember, her family always had millions lying around. At only 13, she was receiving an allowance that one could easily be envious of. They weren't pushing her into a career path, or even to follow their footsteps. Instead, they allowed her to be one of the most spoiled women in all of South Korea, if not the world. If she asked for it, she received it in the blink of an eye. There was never a hint that they were up to something so…Evil.
After months of questioning, by different officers trying different tactics. After undercover cops going on 'dates' with her, and other attempts, they gave up. It was nearly a year later that they finally came to the conclusion that she was never going to speak up, or she truly didn't know. Clearly, it was the former that they chose to believe. It was the former that the entire country came to believe about her.
How could a woman who was so close to her parents not know about their illegal dealings?
Well, first of all, she wasn't that close. The relationship with her parents didn't have that very tight, emotional bond that most had. Their bond was about money, and spending it. She attended boarding schools until she was old enough to have her own apartment, in which they outright bought her a penthouse in one of the most exclusive buildings in Seoul. They barely even knew she was alive, except for the lack of a phone call from the coroner. Still, Sera was naive. She held tight to the belief that they absolutely loved her, and would do anything for her…A belief that was shattered by the fourth month of questioning.
By the end of 12 months, it was formally announced that her parents were being charged with one of the biggest scams the country had seen. Nearly all of her parents wealth, from the past 20+ years, was stolen. Her allowances, her penthouse, her cars…It all came from stolen money. And just as her parents had stolen money from thousands of people, all of those things were 'stolen' from her. The conviction a year later through a poorly fought case only cemented her new reputation.
Sera tried to plead her case to the public, doing interviews whenever she was able to, but none of it changed how she was viewed. Instead, it only lead to far more insults thrown at her.
"How can she show her face like this????" "How stupid does she think we are?? She absolutely knew what was going on." "Look at her, still wearing a designer dress while begging for sympathy." "She should give acting lessons." "Where did she learn to cry like that? Not even the best actors are that good."
Sera couldn't help but to read the comments, looking for even one that was sympathetic towards her. Just one person who saw she was telling the truth, but none. There were none.
The comments weren't limited to anonymous faces on the internet, however. They spilled into her daily life. She was literally chased from stores, restaurants, and cafes…Delivery services refused to accept her orders. Even if she tried to hide her face with a mask, she was recognized and chased out with insults and curses. It almost became impossible for her to even go grocery shopping for essentials.
The hospital was the scariest. There came a time where she had gotten so sick, that she needed to go. She was certain she had the flu or pneumonia, or something. For days on end, she had been coughing and struggling to breathe, but she had been chased from the pharmacy when she tried to get some medicine for the symptoms. The paranoia as she walked down the street only made it harder and harder for her to breathe, to the point she collapsed as soon as she reached the hospital doors. It was the biggest surprise of her life when she woke up in a hospital room, her last moments before being nothing but fear that she would simply be left in the cold to die. Finally, someone had sympathy for her. Even if it was a mandatory part of their job, there was some sympathy shown somewhere for her.
The hospital bill still looms over her to this day, creditors now coming after her even though she has nothing. Instead of an exclusive penthouse, she's barely able to rent a closet of an apartment. Instead of taking a taxi, or driving a car, she's left to walk everywhere. Meals? She found herself able to once in a while buy a frozen meal at a convenience store on the otherside of the city. Perhaps the good news was that being so poor helped her lose weight that she didn't know she wanted to lose.
Sera had almost nothing of her life before the scandal, except for a single designer dress that remained protected in a garment bag. An evening dress that probably needed to be tailored at this point, but that would be something she needed to learn later. She had nowhere to wear it, and probably wouldn't for the rest of her life at this point.
What her parents did to her was horrible, and disgustingAnd she was the one being left to take the lashings. To take the public's exiling. Sera started to wish she did know what was going on, because she could only imagine prison life being better than her life now. It had to be. Even the slums sounded like a better life.

If anybody believes they are being gouged now, wait until a Harris presidency. If she is able to install price controls, of any kind, it won't be long before you won't worry about your wallet being gouged but your belly. Renter, yeah your landlord won't bother maintaining the property. Price controls cannot be sustained long term. It will destroy every single family farm and break supply chains across the globe. People do not seem to understand just how interwoven economies are. More importantly, they do not seem to understand just how hard it is to rebuild those supply chains. We aren't even remotely recovered from those lockdowns most of the country/world went through. That living wage they promise, let's see how far that goes when goods and services start to diminish as their cost stops covering the cost of production.
The second her economic ideas were released should have been the end of her run. After that the only reason I can see to vote for her is a hatred of trump. Not abortion, like some people say. Anybody with a single brain cell knows that the entire decision overturning roe v. wade was about clearly stating that the federal gov't has no say on abortion, it is a state decision. The idea of codifying either abortions or abortion bans at the federal level is unconstitutional and can be fought. Anybody who wants to posit the theory that the current court would uphold a ban needs to remember that Thomas wrote the decision and chose his words specifically. The choice to say that the abortion issue,in its entirety, is a state issue was deliberate.
There is no other reasons to vote for her than Trump hatred. Tough on crime, bullshit, actually look at her record don't just listen and repeat. Tough on the border, the past 3.5 years says bullshit. She had opportunity to do something and did nothing but make it worse. Absolutely zero political accomplishments. Not only backed but bragged about bidenomics, idiotic. Afghanistan withdrawal, the only good thing that can be said is we aren't there anymore but there's a caveat.... this administrations handling, of which Harris bragged about having a significant part, of the withdrawal condemned all Afghan women to abject slavery and zero, fucking zero healthcare at all. It is now illegal for a woman to be treated by a male doctor and illegal for women to be educated at all much less in the healthcare field in Afghanistan. Feminist mount that plaque on your wall. Not to mention that the spinelessness shown did, in fact, give the green light to russia and iran.
I'll get to an end, after all nothing I say matters to anyone but me but it's nice to get it out once in awhile. But first, one of the most infuriating things about her is the refusal to do any in depth interviews, at no point in my life would I hire someone without some sort of interview and at no point in my life would I expect to be hired without some sort of interview. Being as how the US president is probably the most influential person on the planet, take some damn questions. Not just some, as many as fucking possible.
And also anyone saying "she's a woman, we need a woman".... Fuck off. We need someone who is qualified and will actually work. Say what you want about trump, you had 4 years of him. Those 4 years saw the lowest fuel prices in my lifetime, the most peace since the '90s, shit I was just a kid there might not have a been a stretch in the '90s to compare. The US will see a woman president,( it could have been Tulsi but the dnc said no, dnc also said no to Bernie in '20 and '16, come to think of it the last time democrat voters had an actual choice of candidates was Obama in '08.... So much for defenders of democracy) that woman needs to be good or her failures will be attributed to her sex and will set women back politically. This one isn't the right one.
Understand I'm not going to respond to any comments to this, my therapy session is over✌️

Hiii Hii!!! May I request for Draco🥺
Fluff prompt 3: "It's you. It's always been you."
Steams scenes 6: "Touch Me"
And miscellaneous 12: only one bed AU
Thank youuu❣️
Travelling Companions  // Draco Malfoy
a/n: NSFW - minors DNI. FEMALE READER. 2k words (not really a blurb anymore), and the fic that has inspired my latest series so pieces of this will be taken and used there that’s why this may feel very rushed. The series will be slower.
Fluff 3: “It’s you. It’s always been you.”
Steamy Scenes 6: “Touch me.”
Misc 12: only one bed.
Upon the end of the Second Wizarding War and the disgrace of his family, Draco Malfoy left the country. There was very little keeping him tied to England; a family torn apart by their beliefs, a cold house that was not a home, an inheritance built off the very hatred pedalled by his father.
No, Draco Malfoy did not want to stay in the country.
Similarly, you refused to stay at home too. Having seen the lifeless bodies of your friends, the nightmares had become too much for you to remain at home. Instead, you packed up your things, kissed your parents on the cheeks, promising to send them a postcard from every destination.
It’s in Italy where the two of you cross paths.
The night was unusually warm; sweat rolling down your back as you walked through the thick crowds on the Ponte Vecchio. You had no distinct aim of your night; happy to wander until the early hours of the morning, falling into your bed with very little to think about other than your plans for the following day.
It’s as your dodging multiple bodies that you spy a shock of blonde hair that you swear was familiar.
“Draco?” You call, watching the tall figure pause, “Draco Malfoy?”
The blonde turns at the sound of your voice.
“Of all the people to meet in Florence,” You smile, “What are you doing here?”
“An extended gap year as the muggles would call it,” He answers, looking mildly uncomfortable at being recognised abroad.
“Well,” You nod, “It was nice to see you, enjoy the rest of your travels.”
Draco nods, a small, polite smile on his face. He doesn’t say anything to which you turn away, continuing your journey across the bridge in the hopes of finding something to eat and soon.
“(Y/N)!” Draco calls after a moment.
You turn back to the man, finding him only a few steps behind you. His eyes are bright, cheeks flushed as he asks, “What are your plans for tonight?”
“I was going to get some food and then walk about aimlessly. Why?”
“Can I join you?” He asks; the words leaving his mouth in such a rush that Draco looks shocked at the speed. “What I mean to say is: would you like some company? It would be nice to catch up with a friendly face.”
“Of course,” You laugh, “You’re more than welcome to join me.”
Draco falls into step beside you as you wander the length of the bridge, both eagerly looking for a restaurant to catch up in.
Conversation flows naturally with the blonde, as does the laughter and the wine. You reminisce over the lighter days of your education, as well as sharing countless stories of your travels, finding yourself enjoying Draco’s company far more than you expected.
“Where are you going to next?” Draco asks, grey eyes inquisitive as he sips at his red wine.
“Greece,” You answers, “I’m island hopping for a little while. I’ve heard stories of an island that feels like the end of the world, and I want to check it out. Where are you off to next?”
“Greece, if you can believe it,” He answers, topping up your wine glasses with the dregs of the bottle.
“I’ve a proposition for you, Malfoy,” You announce over your refreshed glass of red wine. “I’ve grown tired of travelling alone, I miss conversation and company. We’re both travelling to Greece next – why don’t you join me?”
Draco ponders your proposition through his next bite of food, weighing up the pros and cons through a mouthful of Tagliatelle Funghi Porcini e Tartufo. “Alright,” He eventually says, wiping his mouth on a cloth napkin, “I’ll join you. I’ve grown lonely on my travels too.”
Your shoulders sag as Draco’s words wash over you. It had become lonely travelling alone, that much was true, but you couldn’t shake the feeling that you were meant to run into Draco tonight. That there was something bigger at play.
-------
The Ionian Islands were beautiful; travelling with Draco at your side made it easier for you to rest at night, no longer plagued by nightmares as often, but it gave you someone to talk to when the night had been bad.
Kefalonia held its own charm; its quiet punctuated only by the clinking of wine glasses on the wine tours shared with Draco.
Your time on the Ionian Islands had you seeing Draco in a different light; the sun had bronzed his skin and you couldn’t help but stare when his shirt came off at the beach. Something was changing between the two of you; the both of you lingering on a night, not wanting to be the one to say good night, not wanting to be the one to draw it all to a close.
You could only hope that things would change soon.
---------
“Are we staying in the port?” Draco asks, eyeing you carefully as you hold your hand out for a taxi. Wearing black slacks and a white t-shirt, Draco was unintentionally drawing the attention of most women and men in the port of Skiathos
“Nope,” You answer as the taxi pulls up beside you both, “We’re staying in Troulos.”
The hotel was a small, family run establishment that you had read about in one of the many travel guides bought before you left England. Draco leaves you to check in, letting you admire the scenery as you wait patiently for him to return.
The owner is the one to lead you both through the hotel, smiling politely at you as he leaves you outside your room, explaining the opening times for the bar and the pool.
“There’s only one bed, Draco,” You state obviously as you enter the room, pointing to the bed in offence.
“I noticed,” He deadpans, fixing you with an unimpressed look. “Look, I’m not sleeping on the tiled floor. So, we either share, or you sleep on the floor.”
“Ever the gentleman,” You drawl, arching a single eyebrow. Draco smirks as he bows; the motion executed perfectly, highlighting his very expensive etiquette lessons as a small boy. “Fine,” You huff, dropping your bag onto the bed, “We share, but I’m warning you now, Malfoy, I hog the blankets.”
“I wouldn’t expect anything less,” The blonde snorts, wandering to the bathroom where you hear the shower begin to flow.
Settling down on the bed, you press a hand to your forehead, already sticky with sweat. Your stomach turned with butterflies as you think of the night to come, sharing a bed with Draco. The feelings for the man had surprised you; you hadn’t expected to feel anything for him, simply happy to have company on the last leg of your travels, but here you were – craving his touch and his attention as if it were your lifeline.
The shower turns off, and you jump up, grabbing your toiletries in an effort to give you something to do to draw your mind from the sight of Draco in a towel.
“I’m going to shower and get ready, and then we’ll go get some food, okay?” You call out, pushing past the blonde as he leaves the bathroom in nothing, but a small, fluffy, white towel wrapped around his waist.
“I’ll be waiting!” Draco calls out, laughter rich in his voice.
As you sink against the bathroom door, it’s then that you realise, you’re fucked.
-------
It became a quick tradition on your travels with Draco that you would alternate who would pick the restaurant that evening. As you chose where to eat the previous night, it was now Draco’s turn.
The restaurant he chooses is quaint, set off just from the main road running through that part of the island. It’s fairly busy, many families laughing and drinking through the evening.
The waitress hands you the menus, her eyes lingering on Draco a little bit too long for you to feel comfortable. You smile politely as you give her your drink orders, immediately feeling awful for the curtness of your tone when you had no claim to the man sat next to you.
Food is ordered and conversation continues to flow, but you find yourself caught up in the way that Draco makes you feel. Every glance, every smile, every unintentional touch – it leaves you close to breathless with butterflies raging in your gut and your heart close to pounding out of your chest. You had never felt like this, and your poor heart could only hope that Draco felt the same.
When the food arrives, it doesn’t take long for you to gush over the meal. “You have to try this!” You cry out as you take your first bite of your meal, gathering another forkful for Draco. “It’s wonderful!”
Holding your fork out, you expect Draco to take the utensil from you, but he doesn’t. Instead, he leans in, his lips wrapping around the fork in a manner that leaves you hungry for something that certainly wasn’t food.
“What do you think?” You ask huskily, throat dry.
Draco chews, pondering over the food. A smirk gathers on his lips as he swallows, “Delectable.”
The both of you fall silent as your meals are finished; the only sound between you being the scraping of cutlery on plates, but you cannot help but wonder whether Draco can hear the pounding of your heart every time he smiles at you, or whether he can sense the change in your feelings as you yearn for him silently.
“You were jealous – of the waitress – weren’t you?” Draco’s voice sounds, breaking your reverie. Blinking, you find him watching you with a curious look on his face.
“Yes,” You confess in a single breath, shifting your gaze from Draco’s, fiddling with the napkin in front of you.
“There was no need.”
“Oh?”
“It’s you,” He breathes, tucking a strand of your hair behind your ear, “It’s always been you.”
“Take me back to the room, Draco,” You whisper, leaning into his touch.
Draco wastes no time paying the bill, whisking you from the restaurant and down the road to your hotel.
The door slams against the wall as you both fall into the room; hands pulling at clothing, lips attached save for the breathy laughter filling the room. He tastes of the anise instilled into the Ouzo shared at dinner; his lips fit seamlessly against yours as he backs you through to the bedroom, his hands wandering – memorising every dip and curve of your body.
Draco lays you out on the bed gently as if worried of hurting you in some form or another.
“What do you want?” Draco asks, grey eyes bright in the muted light of the room.
“You,” You state, sitting up on the bed, pressing your hands to the man’s bare chest, scraping your fingernails down his pale skin.
Draco shivers at your touch, barely repressing the low groan growing in the back of his throat. “Where do you want me?” He hums, not giving you the time to answer the question as he begins his onslaught of addictive kisses.
“Here?” He purrs, kissing your jaw. “Or here?” He asks, dropping a feather light kiss to your neck, pushing you back onto the bed. “What about here?” Draco teases, pressing blazing kiss after blazing kiss down the centre of your cleavage to the top of your underwear leaving you a wanton mess as you writhe underneath him.
“Darling,” He whispers, “What do you want from me?”
“Touch me,” You all but beg, reaching for the blonde’s hand, fitting it where you need him most.
It’s then that all self-control Draco had snaps; his hand slips into your underwear, fingers slipping through your slick folds. The gasp that leaves your mouth is swallowed by Draco’s lips, his teeth tugging on your bottom lip as he wrings every single ounce of pleasure from your body.
No nightmares are had that night; finding peace in each other as you sleep wrapped up together in the one bed.

He was fortunate to have the family he did. Chris, the girls, Ed, Al, and his team—he couldn’t ask for a better family if he tried. Some days, he wondered what he could have possibly done to deserve such love. A monster who killed thousands deserved life in a prison cell, not a warm home with smiling children and the smell of fresh cinnamon rolls wafting through the air. Every time that thought dared to creep into his head, though, Ed had some strong words prepared. He knew his Papa and how his stupid brain, with its self-doubt and depression, worked. Sometimes, it just needed some encouragement.
So, Roy kept going to work. Every person in Amestris deserved to know that kind of warmth and safety. They needed to know what peace felt like in their lifetime. He could make it happen. It wouldn’t be easy. The Homunculi weren’t exactly the sort of opponents he pictured when he initially started working towards his goal of the Presidency, but he wasn’t about to stop now. Hadn’t the people of this country suffered enough at their hands?
Hadn’t Kain Fuery suffered enough?
His words spoke that he clearly suffered, and it was not merely due to the Southern border war. The wound was older than that, deeper and still bleeding. He mentioned previously that he didn’t let anyone in. His Colonel’s negligence contributed, sure, but that thinking existed beforehand. If he had to guess, Roy imagined Fuery lacked any sort of loving family before joining the military. He wasn’t about to ask—Fuery’s personal life was his to bring up. But still…
He couldn’t go back in time and repair his past mistakes, nor could he take the place of loving parents who should’ve been there. The only thing he could do was show his love now.
"Love's a choice,” he started, “It's one we make every single day. My mother chose love not just when she adopted me, but by making me part of her life. She didn't have to, but she did. My sisters are all her employees, and they had no obligation to me. They chose to make me part of their lives, and I did the same. I love them and consider them my family because I choose to—and because I don't know how else to exist. Choosing to love is like choosing to breathe for me. Always has been. I'm just working on showing it better."
He let out a sigh. Every word had to be just right. Rushing to answer the question wouldn’t help anyone. Fuery needed to know that words mattered—that he mattered.
"You’re not stupid. Not in the slightest.” To emphasize, he shook his head. “I will never think you’re stupid. To answer your question, though: do I think someone will love you like that? I do because I love you, and I consider you as part of my family. You always will be, no matter what you do, and you don't have to do anything to earn that. It's not conditional. I’m the one who’ll sound stupid because I don’t want to let go. I have to keep telling myself that you’re real, that you’re really here, and that you’re safe here. I have to keep telling myself that over and over because the thought of losing you… I can’t go through that."
The tears came back without his permission. He tried to will them to stay in his eyes, but, like everything and everyone else in the universe, they refused to listen to him. They streamed down his cheeks before he could stop them. This couldn’t keep happening. White Cloud might have told him that he had permission to break down, but this was ridiculous. He was crying over something that hadn’t even happened.
Well, not to Fuery. But, it happened to Hughes. To Edward. So, how arrogant did he have to be to say it wouldn’t happen again? Especially here in Wonderland?
“I’m sorry.” One hand went to cover his eyes as he took a breath. “Just gimme a minute.”
Tumblr media
At least you have them, he wants to argue. Your mother and your sisters and your sons.
Jealousy has probably always been his worst vice, the one that gnaws at him whenever he so much as lays eyes on a father and son playing catch in the park or two friends on a walk together or a couple holding hands.
At least you had Hughes. At least Breda doesn't talk over you. At least people believe in you. At least you know what 'home' means and at least you've heard 'I love you'.
He keeps it all back. It wouldn't be fair. It's not Roy's fault that Kain is like this. Roy is trying to help, even.
Being difficult, that's what he's doing. He doesn't even mean to, especially not when Roy had sought him out to help instead of the other way around.
Maybe this is why he's got people and Kain doesn't. Maybe his father and his mother were right when they scolded him. Weird, difficult, annoying, disappointing - those were the words they used most often.
Maybe, he figures, he should go back to what he knows, shrink away from Roy, and let the formalities slip back into his speech as he pleads his commanding officer to forgive him for forgetting the protocols.
But he doesn't want to. He's warm, and he feels mostly safe, and someone's being nice to him.
And it's not just any someone, it's the man who'd believed in him just enough to bring him onto his unit, who'd given him the only flicker of hope he'd ever felt before that.
He'd been so excited, too. Maybe, in some other universe, he'd have called his mother to tell her about how somehow he'd caught Colonel Mustang's attention. And maybe, in that other universe, she'd have told him how proud she was and how he should have come home for dinner that weekend to celebrate. Maybe he would have, and maybe he would've had some friends waiting for him as a surprise, and maybe everyone would have been happy to see him.
Instead, he'd gone back to his dorm that evening, laid his jacket over his chair, tugged off his boots, and skipped dinner to go straight to bed so he could be well-rested and at his best the next day.
The sergeant forces that away the best that he can. Roy didn't come in here for a sad, insignificant story.
But it's still floating, the memory of how empty his room seemed that evening and of how he'd spent most of it fantasizing and of how that day had been his happiest memory even with how sad he'd been by the end of it.
Roy can never understand what Kain means by 'weird'.
Roy, like everyone else, has the rules of the game.
Roy has a family. They love him and he loves them and so the man cannot possibly get it, even though he thinks he does.
Kain can't be mad at him for trying, even if he's jealous, even if Roy doesn't understand him. He will choose kindness right now. He will choose kindness and love over the venom he could very well easily spit out instead. He will choose it through gritted teeth against every urge to be cruel to the world that is so cruel to him.
"I'm glad you have them," he says. "They'll turn up soon, I'm sure."
And it will sting. He knows it - he'll be standing there off to the side wishing someone were that happy and relieved to see him, but like always he won't say a word as not to ruin the moment. Roy can claim he considers Kain family all that he wants to, but when it comes down to it, he already knows that he can't compare to the people Roy's been telling him about.
Maybe he'll sit with Cid, because as far as he knows Cid doesn't have anything to rub in his face even accidentally. They can sit together in silence, one working while the other grieves in the weirdest way possible over a person who never existed at all. For now, though, and perhaps only for now, he has company and warmth.
"Do you think maybe there's some sort of chance that I'll have someone love me like that someday too, Colonel? Or even just be close enough, like... I dunno." He shakes his head, refusing to let himself finish his sentence.
"I'm being stupid, sorry. Thank you for the hug."

Lady Of The House Pt. 2 (Henry x Reader)
Heyyyyyy, so I finally finished this part, please let me know if you want to see more of this. Enjoy!
Tumblr media
Part one
-
After the delicious breakfast Henry and (y/n) had he told her that they must attend a charity event that his brother was throwing. She always enjoyed those types of outings with him, she liked the attention and how Henry would proudly show her off and twirl her around the dancefloor, Henry always made her feel wanted and appreciated. However with that type of short notice, she was left running around her wardrobe room with Jennette and Angelina on her side, trying to pick an outfit, it wasn't like she didn't have any, but she always wanted to be perfect, the Cavill family had accepted her but not without difficulties, at the end of the day they all saw her as this little shiny toy Henry would dispose at some point.
"What about this? It still has the tag on it"
Angelina spoke lightly holding up the extravagant green gown Henry had bought her one day, she had mentioned her favorite designer so the next day Henry sent her 8 different gowns that he liked.
Angelina was new to the roaster, Jennette (y/n) quickly came to the realization that a few of the maids and butlers were giving out information about (y/n) to Henry's mom, she was a wonderful lady when (y/n) was around because she saw her as just a girlfriend and not the wife, so they swiftly got replaced. (Y/n) approached Angelina and let her fingers trace the fabric as she turned to look at Jennette.
"Isn't the slit a bit too much for a family event?"
"I think it's finally time for you to make this statement... miss Cavill"
(Y/n) giggled at the name, Jennette liked calling her that as a small joke and a reminder that she is now the lady of this house. (Y/n) was always a big personality but this life made her feel small and uncertain. She bit her lip before she started nodding to herself, Angelina smiled in triumph due to feeling accomplished with finding the dress for (y/n).
"Angelina help miss (y/n) put the dress on, I'll be downstairs if you need me"
"Yes miss jennette"
As (y/n) started to take off her robe to slip on the right dress, jennette walked out of the master bedroom and towards the entrance of the house, that's where Mister Henry was waiting for his lady. Jennette was curious about the reason he had asked to see her privately to talk about (y/n).
she wasn't worried about it though, Jennette had a good feeling about this since everyone could clearly see how madly in love he was with her, he had brought other women home in the past yet they were never introduced to the staff, they had remained anonymous visitors. She slowly walked down the marble stairs while Mister Henry was standing in front of a mirror, fixing his tie.
"You asked to see me sir?"
"Yes Jennette"
His tone of voice was light as a feather, kind and melodic as he finally rearranged himself and took his eyes off his reflection and turned to Jennette who was patiently waiting close to him.
"How's (y/n) been doing?"
"She is finally getting comfortable, Angelina has been helping with making her feel in charge"
Henry slowly nodded as a ghost of a smile on his lips. He remembered how scared she was in the beginning, how she would stutter while talking to the staff or some days she wouldn't even leave the bed until he came home. He could recognize how much she has flourished and rose to the occasion. He was so thankful when (y/n) started to smile while talking to him about Jennette, she needed an ally and now Angelina was another soldier
"I'm going to ask her to marry me"
Jennette gasped in a happy demeanor and started to clap fastly with her fingers while her palms remained together. Henry was aware how close the two of them had grown to become, Lady Jennette has been around his family since he was a young adult, when he first started getting involved in the "family business".
however all his brothers had kids and a wife, (y/n) was the only woman he could see a future with, just the thought of her with a big round belly made him feel all warm and fuzzy, he felt alive next to her and her presence never left his mind, he had a reason to keep living and working. As soon as he had laid eyes on her that night he stayed at the hotel she was working at he just had to have her, it was almost compelling
"Of course you can't tell her"
"I would never dream of such a thing sir"
Before Henry could speak he heard the door of his bedroom open, along with giggles that probably came from Angelina and (y/n). Both of them waited for her to turn the corner and appear.
(Y/n) felt his eyes on her as soon as she stepped at the top of the stairs. Jennette was smiling at the sight of her while Henry remained silent. Angelina helped her lift up her dress ever so slightly so she can take the steps down without a problem. You could hear her heels click on the well polished floor. Ever since she met him the look he gave her every time he saw her was addictive, she felt like the most beautiful woman in the world when he gave her this intense look that scanned her body.
"If the slit is too much I can go change"
"You look stunning my love"
He reassured her and walked to her. His hands immediately found hers and her raised one to his lips to place a gentle kiss on her knuckles while never breaking eye contact. She smiled back and instinctively she filled the space between them so she could hug him, his cologne made her feel safe knowing that he was there was the most comforting idea.
After a few moments she pulled away but their hands remained intertwined. Every single time they had to attend a family event he could sense her anxiety, at any other gala she was right at home but when it came to his family she looked like a kid going through school exams.
"Don't be nervous love"
"I'm not nervous"
She quickly shot back in defense. She could tell that he wasn't convinced, yet he chose to let it go, acknowledging the fact that pushing her more would only do more damage than good. Her hair was down and styled to perfection, her make up was done to bring out her beauty even more, she looked like a true goddess coming to bless the mortals.
"Don't wait for us jennette"
"Yes sir. Have a good night"
-
The car ride was spent by (y/n) looking out the window while her one hand traced her necklace and the other held Henry's, he chose to silently support her. He could comprehend how scary his family could be for an outsider, of course they were nice when she was around but (y/n) was no fool, she noticed the quick side eyes and the few whispers when she turned her back, she only bit her lip and smiled for Henry's sake, as well as the fact that if she wanted to be in this family she had to outsmart them, she was aware that they acted like that because she was the girlfriend, as soon as Henry would propose nobody would dare to say anything, she would officially be a Cavill. It was a shallow reason but she just wanted to be recognized for what she was, a woman that all she did was fall in love.
As the driver opened the door Henry got out first and then he helped (y/n) get out, before she got the chance he slightly kneeled in front of her to fix the end of her dress that touched the floor. His gentle grace of his fingers from her calf that went over her thigh brought goosebumps all over her body.
"I love this dress on you"
"I think you will have to wait until we get back home to show me how much you do"
Henry's reply was to lean down and press a kiss on her naked left shoulder before offering his arm for her to take as they walked in the Mansion as a couple.
(Y/n) felt the awfully familiar tightness in her chest as they entered, people were mingling, the smell of cigars lingered in the air as you could see the smoke in the air, even though the staff had done it's best to open windows and keep the air fresh.
"(Y/n)!"
She heard a woman call her name at a rather enthusiastic tone. As she turned she saw it was Henry's sister in law Chiara. She was dressed in a black dress that was a bit more modest than hers, yet it complimented her delicate figure in such a way that made her look like the glamorous Hollywood stars back in the day. The brunette woman opened her arms and offered (y/n) a warm hug. (Y/n) hugged back, feeling grateful that the host was one of the people in this family that she actually got along with. Chiara had married into the family years ago, she was rather tall and very intimidating, she vividly remembered the story of how Charlie traveled back and forth from the UK to Austria just to get a date with her.
"You look exquisite"
(Y/n) complimented her, Chiara smiled as she gave an up and down look with a smirk on her painted lips.
"Same goes for you dear, the hawk is going to have a heart attack… love it"
Chiara and (y/n) had bonded over how tightly Henry's mother held the strings, Chiara was the first to pull (y/n) aside and warn her that she is like that with anyone however she is all bark and no bite. Many nights have been spent over the phone with Chiara giving advice to (y/n). They were so different yet they found comfort in one another.
"How are you Chiara?"
Henry joined in, he didn't care that Chiara forgot to greet him, quite the opposite he was pleased (y/n) was getting the attention she deserved. Chiara looked at him and in the meantime Charlie started to approach her from behind, (y/n) had to admit that even though she met Chiara while she was married she still felt like Chiara was a single woman, Charlie traveled a lot which Chiara had stated multiple times that it was the reason she was still married to him, she needed her space and craved time alone. So as one can assume that she wasn't really eager to have a baby either.
"I'm well, I'm surprised you guys made it. I thought you had to be in Scotland"
"(Y/n) is not fond of Scotland"
He simply responded. To be fair she thought it was a beautiful country but it was springtime and she wanted to go somewhere with a bit more sun. A waitress approached the two couples and offered champagne, Henry reached for two glasses and offered (y/n) one, Chiara and Charlie were already holding a glass.
"Here you go love"
"Thank you"
"Cheers, to another successful season"
Henry raised his glass while the others followed. As they clinked their glasses and all the group took a sip, the taste of the bubbly drink soothed (y/n)'s nerves, her shoulders started to relax and the tightness on her chest was little to none.
"Where's mom and dad?"
"Oh last time I saw them they were talking to our brother"
"We should go say hello"
"Alright, it was nice seeing you"
(Y/n) said before Chiara leaned in a bit to whisper in her ear "you got this doll".
(Y/n) giggled at her and Chiara just stepped back and gave her a playful wink. Henry's hand found the small of her back before gently guiding her away from the couple, the last glimpse she got off the couple was Chiara turning to say something to her husband as she flipped her long wavy hair back.
(Y/n)'s heart stomped so loud she started feeling the pressure on her ears, out of instinct she clenched her jaw and tried to mask her nervousness. Henry spotted his parents and walked to them, knowing well that (y/n) is already done with the situation and depending on how this goes they might have to leave immediately.
"Henry and (y/n), is so good to see you"
Henry's father, Colin, was the first to greet them with a kind smile on his face. Colin had always been nothing but kind to (y/n), which was surprising to her since she had stereotypically thought that the father would be the hardest one to crack. Colin hugged his son and then proceeded to take (y/n)'s hand and give a kiss on her hand.
"It's good to see you young lady"
"Thank you"
"How are you dear?"
His mother Marianne said before going in for a very forced hug, yet she was grateful they still had a civil type of communication especially around others.
"I'm well, how are you?"
"You've lost weight, I was hoping you would have gained some, oh you would look so cute with a little baby bump"
(Y/n) let out a nervous giggle, not knowing how to answer. They weren't even married, let alone have a baby, she wanted to have kids but she was still young and wanted to enjoy having henry for herself a little longer.
Henry's hand went from the small of her waist to wrapping around her as a way to bring her closer to him. He had heard this over and over again, the only difference was that to him they questioned if she was worthy to bring an heir to the family.
"Not yet mother, I still enjoy seeing her in these tight clothes"
"Henry we are still your parents. He is right Marianne, let them have some fun"
"I'm sure (y/n) can have fun but Henry you are not getting any younger"
(Y/n) was at the edge of just disassociate as her gaze started to focus on a vase behind Marianne. In any other case if this woman was a random stranger she would have popped off and started to insult her. The squeeze she received from Henry's hand pulled her out of her trace. She bit her lip as she tried to find the right thing to say, she wanted kids but the subject of babies was something they hadn't even discussed other than the cheeky comments during sex. The squeeze she received from Henry's hand was enought to bring her out of her trance and now the tightness on her chest was replaced by a fire of anger.
"You know last time you questioned my credibility as a potential wife, so this new situation of wanting me to get pregnant is at least a step"
"Honey I don't know what you are talking about"
"You do, we all do"
She hit back before downing the rest of her drink. Henry smiled in triumph, he was taken back by her boldness on one hand, on the other she held her own and showed the spark he loved to see.
"I think it's time for us to leave. I love you both"
Henry hugged both of his parents and his dad gave (y/n) another kiss on the hand, when she turned to Marianne (y/n) smiled and took her in for a big hug, making Marianne let out a small "oh".
"Water under the bridge… dear"
(Y/n) said at a lower tone before she pulled away and took her spot again next to Henry.
"Have a good night"
Henry said before taking (y/n) away from them. Henry's hand slowly slid from her waist to her bum, he didn't do anything he just let it rest on it. (Y/n) was smart enough to understand that this small change of movement meant that not only was he not mad she responded, he was turned on by her.
"You never seize to amaze me love. I'll call the chauffeur but we got 15 minutes before he arrives"
"Plenty of time to see what decor they have in the bathroom"

It’s Disbarment Day come get y’all’s comfort.
- Trucy was truly Phoenix’s light in every conceivable way. She can make him smile like nobody else and uses Mr. Hat to give double hugs to her Daddy. Whenever Phoenix can’t bring himself to leave his home, Trucy pesters him into taking her out for ramen or ice cream. She was the sole thread that kept him hanging during the first few days of his disbarment, the only thing really keeping him tethered to the world around him. She was what kept him going even during his darkest times.
- After Miles heard what happened, he nearly broke international laws trying to make his way back to Phoenix as soon as possible. And the moment he arrived, he held Phoenix and refused to let go. He made sure that Phoenix knew just how wonderful he was and how much Miles appreciated him. Phoenix figuratively and literally saved Miles’s life several times, and Miles repeats one of those incidents every time that he can tell Phoenix’s thoughts are getting the better of him. Afterwards, he becomes the foundation of his family’s financial state. As a prosecutor, he makes enough money to support his family in every way they need and more. He moves in with Phoenix and Trucy, bringing Kay and Sebastian along with him, until Phoenix has a part-time job that affords him enough money to make rent.
- Sebastian teaches Phoenix how to play piano. Though Phoenix may be woefully inadequate, Sebastian is patient and a better teacher than many would expect. While they practice, they talk about everything. Sebastian tells Phoenix about the time he nearly caused a mistrial for a dangerous criminal and tried to help his father get out of murdering someone, Phoenix regales Sebastian with tales of his courtroom antics and the Matt Engarde situation. They have heart-to-heart talks with each other about everything from relationship drama to feeling inadequate to whether it’s a ladder or a step-ladder. The bond Phoenix forms with Sebastian helps him remember that he’s not alone in feeling set up for failure or betrayed, giving him a person who genuinely understands how Phoenix feels.
- Kay keeps Phoenix moving. She gets him out of bed, takes him to ‘stakeouts’ (secretly an excuse to get free help on heists), and brings him to whatever local events interest her. Kay knows that constant activity and stimulation help her get out of depressive slumps, so she figures that the same would help her new dad(?) keep himself going. Though Phoenix isn’t quite cut out for tree-climbing and running through the mall after Kay commits felony theft, her antics certainly make sure that Phoenix is never left with nothing to do. Her joy from the most minor things (seeing a cool looking rock on the beach, learning how to use a pottery wheel, or even just walking through town) helps Phoenix see that there are little things in life that are worth living for, even if it’s only a dog on a skateboard.
- Franziska VonKarma is pissed. She is pissed because Phoenix Wright is a fool for not checking that his evidence was authentic and she is SUPER FREAKING pissed that someone would frame him for this. Franziska drops everything she is working on and flies to that foolish country to give every fool within a 100 mile radius a piece of her mind. She is the first to actually tell Phoenix that she knows for a fact that he would never submit forged evidence, that she would stake her life and her name on it. Franziska tears through the bar association and the prosecutors’ office alike. Once she has calmed down, she helps Phoenix prepare to retake the bar exam, even before he was found to be innocent of forgery. Seeing even Franziska support him, Phoenix began the fight to prove his innocence. And after the truth behind the Enigmar trial was exposed, Franziska was the first person to begin procedures to have Phoenix reinstated.
- Gumshoe may not be the smartest guy, but he knows how to help people find part time jobs. He helps Phoenix with his search for jobs and offers to write personal recommendations for him, though Phoenix rejects this offer. Gumshoe and Maggy also help Phoenix work through how it feels to get fired, with Maggie being especially helpful by teaching him how to joke about it.
- Ema knew from the very beginning that Phoenix was innocent. So when he started asking for weird devices, she never asked why. When he asked for her help developing a camera for the Mason System, she quickly made it her top priority. She’s not great at offering comfort or emotional support, but she’s an excellent problem-solver. It was her idea to have Phoenix wear the camera in his beanie and she helped develop the Mason System from a technical perspective.
- Maya and Mia had a fight over who got to talk to Phoenix first. In the end, Maya won out. She was crying before even he was and kept repeating that he would never do something like this. She had half a mind to channel the spirit of Magnifi or Zak or anyone in order to prove Phoenix’s innocence, but he convinced her not to. So instead she finally paid him back for all of the times he took her out for burgers, taking him out for them instead. She would talk about whatever they usually talked about, trying to make everything seem as normal as possible. And it worked. Maya was one of the very few constants in Phoenix’s life, so having her by his side made everything feel just a little more normal.
- Mia dropped her ‘an attorney always smiles’ act and lets Phoenix cry to her about everything. She reminded him that she was always there for him, just a channeling away, and that her belief in him was set in stone. She believed that he would get through this and come out better for it, and thus Phoenix believed it.
- The people in Phoenix’s life are what give him hope and happiness and light every single time. Every time that he felt pushed to the brink, someone would  keep him from falling. But in the end, he was the one who decided to keep going. To become a lawyer again and keep facilitating justice, regardless of what had happened in the past. Everyone else helped him along his way, but Phoenix was the one who chose to keep going every single time. And he’s proud of that.

I have ask my lovely fanfic write! What if we get Liams POV when Drake and Riley are star gazing at Lythikos. It never really says what Liam was doing when all of this was happening. And we know his room has the best view so how could he not see Drake and Riley laying in the snow? I wonder how he feels knowing he can’t be the one she’s with.
You know, it would have been great if Liam, in canon, had a chance to ask about what MC did when out with Drake, Maxwell, or Hana. As incredibly sweet as he is, he had to have suffered with twinges of doubt and jealousy. I would have loved for him to mention Drake and the MC becoming nearly inseparable at Lythikos, especially after Drake being a jerk in the previous chapters. Here's my take on Liam's POV during that scene.

One Night in Lythikos
Tumblr media
It had taken a while to finally break free of Olivia, but Liam managed to end her tour of her home by pleading exhaustion. He hated to do that to one of his oldest friends, but she was starting to act like their relationship was more than what it was. He didn't know how to gently break it to her that his own feelings remained unchanged since first meeting her at the age of six.
How could he possibly feel anything more for any of the ladies when a certain American continued to steal his heart?
Liam leaned against his bedroom door after bidding Olivia goodnight. He wished he could have returned downstairs to see Riley once more. Their few minutes of ice skating had not been anywhere near enough the amount of time he needed with her. His lips quirked into a fond smile as he thought of the glimpses he had seen of her with Drake snow skiing. Asking his best friend to look out for her had been the best idea he had ever had.
If he couldn't be with her all the time, at least he could rest easy in knowing she would be cared for by Drake and Maxwell. He couldn't think of anyone better for support and encouragement.
Maybe Hana. That particular lady had surprised him with her genuine sweetness. He was relieved that she was not a suitor who chased after him. After their cronut trip in the capital, he knew that Hana was nothing more than a friend and viewed him as such. He had no doubt that once he chose Riley that she would be a part of their close circle of friends. She had the ability, like Maxwell, to bolster their moods with kindness and a willingness to be of service.
He was thrilled that she and Riley had each other to help them through their first foray into Cordonian society. He had known most of his suitors his entire life and he sadly knew how catty and insulting some of them could be. Court life could be cut throat amongst the nobles. They rarely did anything without expecting something in return. Hana and Riley were both breaths of fresh air in his world. They were nice and thoughtful simply because it was who they were. He hoped once this was over that neither of them became jaded.
After stoking the fire in his fireplace, he poured himself a much needed drink, slipped his overcoat on, and stepped outside.
He walked past the hot tub and stood looking out over the snowy wilderness of Olivia's home. The quiet peacefulness reminded him how hectic his life had become these past few months. He missed his old life and the ease of being a spare to the heir.
He had never envied Leo's place in the royal line. All the expectations and pressures his brother had been under had worried Liam. So much of it was caused by Leo's rebellious nature, yet he knew his older sibling desired to do the right thing for Cordonia. He had tried to encourage him and help guide him towards what was needed from their future king. He had no idea that his efforts would be the central reason behind Leo's abdication.
Somehow, Leo had seen the king Liam could be before anyone else. It was perhaps the greatest compliment his brother had ever given him. Their late night walk though the capital had been eye opening. Once Leo placed the notion of Liam taking the crown in his mind, it felt right. It felt like he had finally found his purpose in this world of theirs. It felt like his destiny.
And now, as he stood there looking over this icy part of his kingdom, he felt the next part of his destiny seem to crystallize.
Riley.
Their meeting in New York followed by Maxwell seeing that the two were meant for something more than a chance encounter pointed at how special she truly was to Liam. Just the thought of her made him smile. The happiness he felt grow with every single moment spent near her was an unexpected delight that life had given him. It was as if she was his reward for not shirking his duty to his country and family.
Liam took a long sip as snowflakes began to fall around him. Flipping his collar up when a brisk breeze blew, he decided to go back inside for the night. He took one last look at the majestic mountains and took a step back. Movement in the valley caused him to pause.
His eyes narrowed as he tried to make out who was down there.
That's Drake.
He shook his head at his friend roaming the countryside without a coat on. Something must have happened to make him leave the manor without it. The man had always been a stickler with making certain one has the proper essentials when outside.
There was only one thing that Liam could think of to drive Drake into rushing out. He must have had a fight with a noble. Given the animosity between his friend and a certain duchess, he knew who had made the freezing temperatures more preferable to her hospitality.
"Drake! Wait!"
Liam froze at the sound of that particular voice. He immediately saw the woman he was unable to stop thinking of run through the snow.
"What are you doing out here, Brooks?"
What is she doing out here? More importantly, why is she chasing Drake?
"I wanted to see if you were okay." Riley replied.
Liam could tell just by Drake's posture that he was shocked. No one else in their lives had ever run after him to see what upset him.
Drake rubbed the back of his neck while speaking in too low of a tone for Liam to hear. The prince found himself leaning out over his balcony's railing, hoping to find out what they were saying.
His eyes widened when Drake pushed Riley down into the snow.
"Hey!" She yelled. "What was that--"
Drake fell back beside her.
Very close beside her.
"Yes, m'lady?"
Since when did Drake ever purposefully use m'lady?
"Drake, this is gorgeous!" Riley exclaimed.
What is gorgeous? What is going on?!
"There's nothing like a meteor shower, especially up here at this altitude."
Liam looked up and saw what they did. He had forgotten how often Drake and Savannah would chart and plan camping trips around these astronomical events. It had become a special time for the siblings once their father died.
And now he is sharing this with Riley.
An unusual feeling crept over Liam as he watched the two lay with their heads close together, pointing up at night sky. A bitterness intertwined with a growing anger that Drake got to do something like this with her. Something romantic.
If anyone should be enjoying this with Riley, it should be me! I'm the one she came here for! I'm the one who longs to simply see her smile. Drake has been cruel about her becoming a suitor. Why is he now being so nice? He got to spend the entire day with her while I was stuck with Olivia. Don't I deserve some part of Riley's time away from the court?
Liam couldn't believe his own thoughts and feelings. He had never been jealous of anyone before. Drake was more than just his best friend, he was family. Yet in this moment, Liam thought he could have easily banished him from the kingdom.
Guilt began to take over his frustration.
Why would I begrudge my best friend receiving kindness for once at court? No one gives him a chance or even an ounce of the respect he deserves. Riley has the ability to cut right through a person's outer appearance and see their true self. How could I selfishly wish to have that all to myself? I want the two people I care about the most to be friends. Don't I?
He watched as Drake stood up then reached to help Riley off the ground.
Is it my imagination or is he holding on to her hand a little too long?
Liam's eyes narrowed as they walked side by side back to the manor. At one point, Riley stumbled causing Drake to reach out and take her hand again.
"Can't have you hurting yourself out here." Drake told her. "The last thing I need is your death on my hands."
Riley's laughter drifted up to Liam.
"I think Bertrand might even be upset if that happened."
"Which is why we are going inside. Dealing with one Beaumont is hard enough." Drake added.
Is he...teasing her?
Liam lost sight of them as the pair headed for the front door.
He turned and headed back into his room, tossing back the rest of his scotch. Once inside, he tore his coat off and went to the fireplace. Bracing his hands on the mantle, he dropped his head forward while dealing with the new emotions flooding through him.
He needed to spend time with Riley. Not only for the sake of seeing what type of queen she would be, but he simply needed her. His mind went through possible activities they could do over these next few days.
Whatever I do, it has to be more romantic than what Drake did tonight.
That thought made his head jerk up. He stared at his reflection in the mirror above the mantle. Had he become a jealous man? Had Riley awakened this unknown part to his personality? Was he going to be petty enough to try and outdo what was most likely an innocent activity Drake had allowed her to take part in?
He honestly did not want to answer any of those questions. He doubted he would enjoy learning what kind of man he truly was.
He rubbed his hands over his face and turned back toward the balcony doors. His eyes fell upon the hot tub outside.
"I'll invite her to share that with me." He said softly.
Plans to do so and how to enhance the romance it presented began to form in his mind.
Liam knew he shouldn't feel this way, but he was bound and determined to make a memory for Riley be one of the two of them sharing an unforgettable romantic moment.

❝ haikyuu boys reacting to getting headlice ❞
Tumblr media
an - i couldnt possibly tell you where the motivation to write this came from but here you go
Tumblr media
HINATA SHOUYO
-> he doesn’t care. they’re little bugs living rent free in his head? who is he to kick them off his head when they’ve probably settled, made a nice home and got a growing family started? considerate king but disgusting
KAGEYAMA TOBIO
-> disgusted. but also thinks just a few rinses of water will do the trick. he doesn’t understand he’s actually got to get in there and pull them out. miwa is horrified walking into the bathroom to see tobio leaned over the bath with a tub full of cold water he’s ultimately wasted. he’s lucky miwa knows what she’s doing
TSUKISHIMA KEI
-> no mercy. rips the little mfs off his head like nobodies business. his brother can only stare in awe and disturbance. kei isn’t scared over a few bugs they’re only a minor annoyance. he won’t tell a soul he had headlice though and if anyone were to snitch on him, he’d probably shake a few off his head and onto yours.
YAMAGUCHI TADASHI
-> stressed. his hairs kinda long so they’re a pain the ass to get out some may think he’d be a little hesistant to tackle them alone but yams has several lice killing lotions in his bathroom ready to use. he is sympathetic but no way is he letting little bugs crawl around his head while he’s around tsukki
TANAKA RYUUNOSUKE
-> the bugs don’t even get to step on this kings prestine head,, next caller !!
NISHINOYA YUU
-> merciless. who tf do these bugs think they are stepping onto his territory? feral. probably put a few in a jar after pulling them out to bark at them and show them that they’ve crossed the line stepping onto his head
ASAHI AZUMANE
-> have sympathy for the guy they’re gonna be a nightmare for him. more upset than anything. now he’s being reduced to being ridiculed by tiny ass bugs too? give the guy a break. gets them out within the first day because he’s not going to suffer longer than he has to and continues doing the treatment for the rest of the week even though they’re certainly long gone
SUGAWARA KOUSHI
-> brutal. like tsukki he’s got no shame in just ripping them out. suga is the type of guy to catch spiders and gently let them out the window and not kill them. lice don’t get that treatment from him. will straight up throw them down the drain and smirk in the process
DAICHI SAWAMURA
-> just another minor occurrence for him. he’s got short hair it’s no biggie. will probably get his mother to help just to make sure he does it right but overall he’ll get rid of them effectively and quickly you wouldn’t even be able to tell he had them in the first place
KINDAICHI YUUTAROU
-> good. he deserves them. maybe this will teach him to get a good haircut. at least the lice like your cut g
KUNIMI AKIRA
-> tortures them after. probably wets a paper towel to keep them stuck to and jabs at them with a thin needle after he’s got them out. sadist little bitch probably has a deadpan expression while doing it too. the lice fear him across the country and avoid him from now on
KYOTANI KENTARO
-> again he’s got short hair so they’re not too big of a pain to get out but why the hell did they have to pick his head? probably picks them out and just throws them wherever he has no regard for where they land and who might catch them from him
HANAMAKI TAKAHIRO
-> little bugs are just chilling no biggie. probably tells the team he’s got them and shakes his head near them to piss them off. oikawa keeps his distance approximately 5 metres and refuses to be included in any rotation makki is in during practice. even after he gets rid of them he doesn’t tell the team and continues shaking his head near them just to ‘keep them on their toes’
MATSUKAWA ISSEI
-> won’t tell anyone other than makki. the two probably pick them out and throw them in oikawas direction leaving their captain confused as to why the hell the two of them keep throwing ‘nothing’ at him. probably gets rid of them within a week and sleeps with a shower cap on so they don’t touch his pillow, that’s his only rule while they spend their vacation on his head
IWAIZUMI HAJIME
-> isn’t scared of no bugs. probably would keep one and press it down just to stick in his childhood bug diary and sneers at how inferior the lice is compared to the other cooler bugs he’d caught before. his hairs short so again it’s not a huge issue for him. he’ll get rid of them quickly and effectively without too much hassle
OIKAWA TOORU
-> screams. begs iwa to take them out for him insisting that it’s his hobby but iwa rejects and leaves oikawa to handle it alone. oikawas sister dips as soon as she finds out and oikawa believes this is the end of his life. after a week of moping and being a brat, iwa gives in and sorts it out for him to finally give him a peace of mind.
LEV HAIBA
-> never had lice before and is genuinely interested rather than concerned. where did the little bugs come from? why do they like his hair so much? is he the chosen one? probably let’s them live on his head for a while until they become infuriatingly itchy and yaku finds out he’s been letting a cult of lice live on his head and forces him to get treatment
KOZUME KENMA
-> thinks bleach with solve it. everyone who hates kenma’s dark roots better be ready for them to go because he will just bleach the shit out of his hair and assume it’s killed them all. for the next few months his hairs gonna be nice but he’ll let his roots grow out again and you’ll secretly hope for him to catch lice again just so he’ll touch up his damn roots again
TAKETORA YAMAMOTO
-> it’s the blonde mohawk that’s the issue. why tf did he have to make his hair to awkward to work with. doesn’t take him long to get out but he probably picks them out walking home from practice or school and just chucks them in bushes or drains he walks past
MORISUKE YAKU
-> you really think he’s about to let some stupid bugs live on his head and not pay rent? absolutely not. has several different brands of lice treatment lotion and uses at least 4 in one go. that amount of chemicals probably isn’t good for you in one go but his only goal is to kill the lice which he achieves. these bugs are mercilessly killed, revived and killed again all in one treatment session
KUROO TETSURŌ
-> this hurt to write knows exactly how to kill them and won’t hesitate in doing so. by that i mean he’s going straight to his grandmother to do it for him because as much as he knows about treatment and such, nobody does anything better than his grandmother and he’ll sit in a chair with a towel around his neck chattering on about his day as his poor grandmother slaves over his head ripping out the stupid bugs from his inconviently styled hair. kuroo’s lucky his grandmother knows he’s her boy
AKAASHI KEIJI
-> bless his soul he’s horrified. disgusting little creatures, believes they’re vermin of the world. mutters in disgust at them as he watches them drown in the pool of water in his bathtub sink eventually sending them down the drain where he hopes they suffer a painful afterlife
KONOHA AKINORI
-> he’s grossed out but doesn’t make a huge deal about it. probably violates himself and gives himself the nickname ‘nitty nori the bug explorer’. he can take a joke and get rid of them in the same week. ugh king shit
BOKUTO KOUTARŌ
-> pain in the ass. he’s excited about these bugs but also worried? do they want to suck his blood? will they crawl into his ears at night? his sisters are the ones responsible with dealing with them and the whole time he’s asking a abundance of random questions regarding the lice and why they chose his head to make their residence
TENDŌ SATORI
-> probably sings at them to make them uncomfortable as he pulls them out. his fingers work magic as he flawlessly picks them out and sends them on their way down to the depths of the drain. the last thing these bugs hear is the terrifying voice of the man who mercilessly sent them to their death beds
USHIJIMA WAKATOSHI
-> his hairs short it’s okay it’s not the end of the world but rather than killing them he believes they have more use to them. he’s going to throw them in this soil in the garden and assume they work the same miracles worms do. he’ll be disappointed to know that they had no effect on his soil and he wasted his damn time making sure to evenly spread them out of the compost heap
MIYA OSAMU
-> will eat with a hat on. if these bugs are gonna live on his head no way is he sharing his food too. they’ve already taken enough from him. atsumu probably bullies him for his lice but freaks out when osamu tells him that because they’re twins, the lice will seek out his head too and they’ll both be infected. he only survives the short period of time with his lice because of the amusement he gets from watching atsumu consciously stay away from him even to the point where atsumu moves onto the couch. maybe he should let the lice vacate a little longer next time
MIYA ATSUMU
-> hates them. calls them every name under the sun but doesn’t actually effectively try to get rid of them. he doesn’t actually know how to get rid of them but is too embarrassed to admit it so he just lives with it. luckily, the lice decided to move in a few days before his hair was due for a touch up so like kenma, he just bleached the shit out of them and it seems to do the trick. it would be concerning had his hair not needed a touch up though who knows how long he would’ve had them.
SUNA RINTARŌ
-> his little sister notices his hand scratching his head constantly and begins to refer to suna as ‘nit boy’ and only ‘nit boy’. he doesn’t really care at first because surely a single shower will do the trick but his sisters provoking gets so annoying he just ends up treating them 7 times over but not before threatening to leave a few dead ones on his sisters pillow if she doesn’t stop calling him names
ARAN OJIRO
-> again, the lice don’t even get to step on his head. they see aran and they respect him. he seems like a nice and reliable guy so why would they go to the efforts of bothering him? probably nod their tiny ass antennas from atsumu’s hair and let aran go about his day in peace
KITA SHINSUKE
-> lice simply don’t exist in kita’s presence. the second a lice stepped foot on kita’s head, he senses it and ripped the mf off before it could even find a nice area to settle. lice keep away from kita at all times and never intend on crossing paths with him
KIYOOMI SAKUSA
-> an indescribable level of disgusted. refuses to accept it at first, insists that lice simply wouldn’t have been able to touch his head but alas he is wrong. tempted to shave his hair off but then again why should he have to suffer just because some stupid bugs said so. has no mercy, will treat his hair every day for the next month and a half and cusses the bugs out as they fall down the drain

Two Homes (part 6/7) - Nikolai Lantsov
Request: no Pairing:  Nikolai Lantsov x reader Summary:  you’re finally back in ketterdam Warnings: language Word count:  3.8K A/N: I literally love the crows so much they’re my comfort idiots <3  PREVIOUS PART | NEXT PART TAG LIST (two homes and/or all grishaverse fics): @godsofwriting @im-constantly-fangirling  @ayushmitadutta @mrs-brekker15 @dancingwith-sunflowers @thegirlwiththeimpala @parker-natasha @story-scribbler @romanoffstarkovs @daliareads @meiitanoia @itsnotquimey @sanktaesperanza @whymyparentscheckmyphone @aleksanderwh0r3 @ilovemarvelanne1 @marlenaisnthappy (if your name is in bold it means I couldn't tag you) add yourself to my tag lists here
The cold wind on your face feels welcoming. You can smell the salt and there’s water all around you. You’d made the journey across the True Sea before, but it felt like a lifetime go.
Maybe because it was a lifetime ago.
You look down at the golden ring on your finger. It feels heavier than it used to. As if you’re suddenly aware of its presence.
When you first sailed across the sea, you were Y/F/N Y/L/N. A merchant’s daughter who had joined a gang in secret. You had learned how to fight, to steal, and a number of other illegal but useful things. You had earned your place among the Crows, joining them on jobs and secretly stealing small bits of your father’s fortune job by job.
And now you’re on a ship again, as Y/F/N Lantsov. A queen, of all things. Of a country you barely know. Married to a king you met less than a year ago.
Of course, you hadn’t given the captain of the ship you’re on your real name. You’d used a name Kaz had given you once as an alias for a job. Luckily, the captain didn’t ask much questions.
You look out at the sea again. Would the Crows treat you differently now? You wanted to believe you hadn’t changed. But everything had changed. Your entire life. Still, you loved the Crows like they’re your family, and they loved you back. But you couldn’t help but wonder if they would love Y/F/N Lantsov as they loved Y/F/N Y/L/N.
You’re lost in thought, unaware of the people walking around the ship behind you. It isn’t until you hear a loud voice, you look up.
Someone is standing at the front of the ship, pointing ahead. He shouted something in a language you didn’t know. When everyone moved to see what he was pointing at, you followed them as well.
After making your way to the front, you see what he was pointing at. In the distance, barely visible on the horizon, you can see land. A city. Your beloved Ketterdam.
You’re home.
You feel like it takes forever to dock and be able to get off the ship. After pulling your hood over your face to hide your identity, you finally set foot in the city again.
Nothing’s changed. You see people moving swiftly between the people who just got off the ship. As a member of the Dregs, you know they’re pickpocketing. How many hours had you spent on the docks yourself, under Kaz’ watchful eye as he taught you.
And now, you realise you’re among their targets. You grin as you start to manoeuvre through the crowd. You know the weak and strong points, and where it was most likely to find a gang member.
Because this part of the docks belonged to the Dregs, you make sure to give them all the signs you have money on you. You keep patting your pocket. To them, it would look like you were merely checking if your money was still there. But you know for a fact your money isn’t in that pocket, and you’re simply luring them to you.
You know how to pick pockets, so you know how it feels. You walk through the crowd, fixated on your coat pocket. When you feel something brush against it, you grab the wrist of the person who walked past you, pulling them back.
The person lets out an annoyed sound and tries to pull their wrist out of your hand, but you hold a firm grip.
‘You’re still bad a this.’ you say. ‘You should let Jesper do it instead.’
You smile and let go of the wrist. When you look up, you meet Nina’s widened eyes. Your hood is still covering most part of your face, but you know she recognised your voice in an instant.
She opens her mouth to say your name, but you stop her.
‘Not here.’ you say, grabbing her hand and leading her away from the crowd. You’re impressed by her patience. But once you’re away from the crowd and in a deserted alley, she fires questions at you.
‘Y/N, it’s so good to see you!’ says Nina. ‘How are you? How is Ravka? Why did you come back to Ketterdam? Oh, tell me you pissed Zoya off in some way, I would have loved to see the look on her face.’
You chuckle at her rapid questions and hold up your hands. ‘Slow down, Nina, remember to breathe in between questions.’ you say, smiling at her.
‘I’m just so glad to see you.’ says Nina.
She reaches out to you and pulls you in a tight hug. You hug her back and inhale the scent of her signature perfume. When Nina pulls back she looks at your face and smiles.
‘Bags under your eyes, but still as gorgeous as ever.’ says Nina, winking at you.
‘Not as gorgeous as you, though.’ you say and Nina laughs.
‘You worked on your flirty comebacks!’ she says.
You smile briefly. ‘That’s what you get when you spend so much time with Nikolai.’ you say.
‘Of course!’ says Nina. ‘How is he? Why isn’t he here?’
‘I chose to come alone.’ you say. ‘I got homesick.’
‘Well, I’m glad you’re here, we have a lot to catch up on. Matthias finally took the next step.’ says Nina, smirking.
Your eyes widen. ‘He did what?’ you say. Before you left, you were Nina’s favorite person to talk to about Matthias. Whenever he said or did something, you were the first one to know. Nina told you she was hinting for Matthias to kiss her, but he remained oblivious as ever. Looks like he finally managed to figure out all of her hints.
‘Later!’ says Nina. ‘Let’s get you to the Crow Club first, I don’t want them thinking I’m keeping you all to yourself.’
Nina links her arm through yours and together, you start walking toward the club. You look at the familiar streets and shops, constantly smiling. You were finally back in Ketterdam. You’d missed it so much, it felt good to be back.
While it’s in the middle of the day, the Crow Club is busy. It always is. As you walk to your usual table with Nina, you spot three familiar faces. Inej is the first to see you.
When she does, she leaps to her feet and runs over to hug you. Her hair tickles your cheek as she hugs you. Like Nina, she immediately starts interrogating you about your time in Ravka.
After promising her you’d tell her everything, you walk the last bit to the table, where Wylan and Matthias are sitting.
Wylan smiles brightly at you and stands up to hug you as well. He’s happy to see you as well but unlike Nina and Inej, he doesn’t ask all about Ravka. Instead, he asks you how you’re doing and how your journey was.
You smile at him and tell him you’re fine, that the journey went well. Sometimes you still wondered why the always energetic Jesper had been able to find his match in Wylan, someone who you’d always considered so calm and quiet.
Matthias holds out his hand for you to shake, before Nina pulls him to his feet and basically pushes him into your arms. You laugh at his bewildered face as you hug Matthias as well.
Meanwhile, Inej had ordered a round of everyone’s favorite drink, and you all sit down. As expected, they all start to ask you all sorts of questions. About Ravka, the palace, the wedding, what it’s like being queen, and of course, Nikolai.
You tell them you refuse to answer their questions until Jesper and Kaz are here, so you can tell them all at once. Wylan had told you they were away on a job. To kill the time, you asked them what had happened in Ketterdam while you were away.
Apparently, a lot.
‘I got shot.’ says Inej.
‘Twice.’ says Wylan, taking a sip of his drink and turning back to you. ‘And Jesper almost dropped me off a building.’
‘Come again?’ you say.
‘We were on a roof during a job, Jesper wasn’t paying attention and nearly knocked me off of it.’ says Wylan, not a single hint of fear in his voice. He had changed so much since you first met him. Maybe that’s what Ketterdam does to you, it hardens you, forces you to grow up.
‘I got in a fight with the Stadwatch.’ says Matthias.
‘And I had to bail you out of a holding cell.’ says Nina.
‘Only because someone knocked me out from behind. It wasn’t a fair fight.’ says Matthias.
Nina turns to you. ‘Heleen wanted for Inej and me to come back to the Menagerie.’ she says.
‘You’re kidding, right?’ you say. ‘You’re telling me she had the fucking guts to ask you that?’
‘Well, it was more like sending one of her new guys to deliver the message. Kaz sent him back with five fingers instead of ten, and without a tongue. I think she got her answer.’ says Nina.
‘Sounds like something Kaz would do.’ you say. ‘What else did I miss?’
‘Jesper almost let Wylan shoot with his guns.’ says Inej.
You raise your eyebrows at Wylan. ‘Jesper allowed you to touch his precious revolvers?’ you say.
‘Almost.’ says Wylan, correcting you. ‘He changed his mind right before handing me one.’
You’re enjoying their company. You laugh and catch up on what’s happening in Ketterdam, buying rounds for the table. Every now and then they ask you something about Ravka, but you still refuse to tell them anything until all of the Crows are present.
Several drinks and card games later, the club slowly begins to empty. Just as Wylan beats you in a game of card, his eye catches someone behind you and he waves at them.
Before you can turn around, you feel a pair of arms wrap around your shoulders, and a chin on top of your head.
‘There’s only one person who always sits in this spot.’
You smile and turn around. Towering over you, and with a huge grin on his face, Jesper is standing behind you. Your expression mirrors his as you stand up. Jesper wraps you in a bone-crushing hug. You close your eyes, grateful for his embrace.
When you let go of him, you smile up at him, then your eyes catch the person who had been standing behind Jesper.
‘Hi Kaz.’ you say.
Kaz nods at you and you’re convinced you can spot the smallest smile on his lips. Barely visible, but still there.
Wylan pulls two more chairs from the empty table next to yours, and Jesper and Kaz sit down.
‘So.’ says Jesper as Wylan hands him his drink. ‘What did we miss? How much have you all heard about a certain king?’
‘Nothing.’ says Nina. ‘Y/N didn’t tell us anything. She wanted to wait until you two got here a well.’
Jesper turns to you and winks. ‘Here I am. I’m all ears, darling.’ he says.
You take a breath and finish your drink. ‘Alright.’ you say. ‘What do you want to know?’
Everything, it seemed. They asked you about life at the palace, about your daily routines, if there really was a buffet every day, and if it was as big as the stories described. And they wanted to know all about Nikolai. What he’s like, if he’s a good king, what it was like to be married to him.
You told them life at the palace couldn’t be more different from the life in Ketterdam. You told them about the gardens, the meetings which were boring almost all of the time, the triumvirate. You told them Nikolai is very sweet, handsome, and a great king.
The rest of the night is spent talking, laughing, playing games and ordering more drinks. You’re exhausted but grateful to be back as you lay down in your old bed. Just before you fall asleep, you realise just how happy you are to be back.
It’s easy to fall back into your old routines when you walk down the stairs to the kitchen. Wylan and Inej are already there, along with a plate of steaming hot pancakes.
You’re grateful to be back, and eager to accompany them on jobs again. Still hiding your face and true identity. Last time you were in Ketterdam, you worried about your father finding out you were a member of the Dregs. Now you had to hide the fact the queen of Ravka is running along with gang members. Needless to say, you were slightly more nervous about someone recognising you.
But when you joined Jesper, Wylan and Nina on a job later that day, their presence was enough to soothe your nervousness.
Everything felt right. Though you had been away for almost a year, it was like you never left. The way you knew what to do without them having to tell you was comfortable. Everything was all right. You couldn’t believe you were finally back in Ketterdam.
You had missed life in Ketterdam and your crows very much. And you were thankful to see they didn’t treat you any differently. On your first night back, your life in Ravka had been the number one topic, but now you felt like Y/F/N Y/L/N again.
You joined them on jobs, played card games, chatted with Nina and Inej over drinks. It felt good to be home.
But a little over a week after you arrived in Ketterdam, you start to feel down. You didn’t know why. You’re finally back home, just like you wanted. You should be happy, grateful, not miserable.
You’re sitting at a table by yourself, silently drinking your favorite drink, when suddenly Kaz joins you.
It was unusual for Kaz to join anyone for drinks. Mostly he was upstairs in his office, doing whatever the hell he did up there. Looking for new jobs maybe, or making sure the younger Dregs didn’t do anything stupid.
When he would join you and the others for drinks, it was mostly because you all had begged him to come along. Kaz wasn’t one to join someone for a drink out of nowhere.
Nevertheless, you were happy he decided to join you.
‘How are you liking Ketterdam?’ he asks.
‘It’s good to be home.’ you say, smiling at him.
You watch as Kaz studies your face. You know there’s something on his mind, and you’re waiting for him to speak up as you nurse your drink.
‘Something has made you upset.’ says Kaz.
It wasn’t a question, more like a statement. You look at him in silence for a while. You tried lying to Kaz once, and he could tell immediately. You figured it was some sort of hidden talent of his. No one could lie to him and get away with it.
You look at your hands, to avoid his eyes.
‘Why didn’t you come to my wedding?’ you say.
‘We didn’t want to risk it.’ says Kaz. ‘Traveling abroad would have ended in our capture. Besides, I thought you didn’t want to marry king Nikolai.’
‘I didn’t.’ you say. ‘Not at first. But once I got to know him, well, it all changed. He’s actually a really great guy.’
You finally look up at Kaz. You finish your drink and signal to the bartender for another one. Again, Kaz is studying your face. You wish he’d look away, you always felt like he could see right through you.
‘There’s something else.’ he says.
You frown. ‘No.’ you say, truthfully. There was nothing else to mention.
‘Come on, spit it out.’ he says.
‘There’s nothing to spit out?’ you say, confused.
‘You’re not yourself. Not like I remember, at least. You said you’d be happier once you got back to Ketterdam. Well, you’re here now. You were happy last week, when you arrived. I have yet to see you genuinely smile, aside from the night you got back.’ says Kaz.
Why did he always have to be right? It was starting to get annoying. Kaz would tell you the truth, even if you didn’t want to hear it.
‘I thought I’d be happy to be home.’ you admit softly, avoiding his eyes again. ‘I’m not. And I don’t know why. I’m finally home, like I wanted, but it doesn’t feel like it.’
‘Y/N, look at me.’ says Kaz.
You keep looking at the table. The bartender sets down your new drink in front of you and you briefly look up at them to thank them. Still, you don’t look at Kaz. As you reach to grab your drink, Kaz’ cane lands on the table hard. Shocked and a bit offended, you look up at him.
‘Listen to me.’ says Kaz. ‘You can have two homes, Y/N. You came back to Ketterdam because you miss us. But you haven’t taken your ring off. Despite leaving the palace, yous till use Lantsov as your last name, aside from when you had to travel across the True Sea. Go back to the palace. Tell that king of yours that you love him. And come visit us during the summer.’
You look at Kaz, letting his words sink in. Two homes. Os Alta and Ketterdam. It could work. You’d spend your days with Nikolai, and spend the summer in Ketterdam.
Suddenly, you think back to your goodbye with Nikolai before you had left for Ketterdam. It wasn’t a proper goodbye, because you couldn’t wait to go to Ketterdam. He deserved more.
Maybe Kaz is right. Maybe you could have two homes.
Kaz had been looking at you as you went over it all in your head.
‘Two homes.’ you mutter softly.
You quickly finish your drink and get up. ‘I have to go.’ you say.
Despite it being late at night, you head up the stairs of the Slat and to knock on everyone’s door. You knew they’d be alarmed if you wake them, because there was an unwritten rule that you didn’t wake someone up in the middle of the night, unless something very bad was going on.
When you knock on Jesper’s door, Wylan is the one who opens it. There’s still light in the room and there’s a pencil in his hand. He must have been working on some sketches for a new project. When you glance over his shoulder you see Jesper sprawled out on the bad, fast asleep.
‘Is everything alright?’ says Wylan.
‘Yes, it’s fine, I just came to say goodbye.’ you say.
Wylan frowns, then smiles. ‘You’re going back to Ravka.’ he says.
You nod. ‘I need to see Nikolai.’ you say. ‘Can I say goodbye to Jesper real quick?’
Wylan steps aside so you can enter the room. You walk over to the bed, kneel beside it and shake Jesper’s shoulders. He wakes with a string of words you can’t quite understand.
‘Jes.’ you say softly. ‘It’s me, Y/N, I'm here to say goodbye. I’m going back to Ravka.’
He mumbles a “good for you, have fun” before falling back asleep.
You smile at move to rise to your feet again. You hug Wylan and after another goodbye, you leave their room, walking the stairs to the next floor.
Inej walks out of her room, holding a bunch of dirty dishes in her hands. She must have been on her way downstairs to put them away.
‘Hey.’ she says. ‘What are you still doing up?’
‘Saying goodbye.’ you say. ‘I’m going back to the palace.’
Like Wylan, Inej smiles. ‘Tell the king I said hi.’ she says.
‘I will.’ you say. ‘Goodbye Inej, I’ll be back for a visit soon.’
You walk to the next floor and knock on Nina’s door. It takes her a while to open the door, but you knew she would. When she does open the door, her hair is messy, she was clearly fast asleep just like Jesper.
‘What happened?’ says Nina, voice thick of sleepiness. ‘Who’s in trouble?’
‘No one’s in trouble.’ you say. ‘I’m here to say goodbye. I’m going back to Nikolai.’
‘You’re leaving again?’ says Nina. ‘But you just got here.’
‘I’ll be back for a visit in summer.’ you say. ‘In fact, I’m going to visit every summer. But right now I need to go back.’
‘To Nikolai.’ says Nina.
‘Yes.’ you say.
‘Give him a kiss from me.’ she says.
‘Nina!’ you say, making her laugh.
‘I’m kidding!’ she says. ‘How about give him a hug from me?’
You nod and Nina pulls you in her arms. You close your eyes, trying to capture the moment. You were going to miss them. But you’d be back in summer. When Nina lets go of you, she smiles brightly.
‘Wait here, you can say goodbye to Matthias too.’ she says.
She enters the room and seconds later she reappears, with Matthias behind her. Just like Nina, he looks like he just woke up. He’s squinting his eyes as he looks down at you.
‘You’re leaving?’ he says.
‘For a while.’ you say. ‘I’ll be back in summer.’
‘Alright.’ says Matthias.
Unlike the night when you arrived in Ketterdam, Nina doesn’t have to shove him into your arms. Matthias steps forward and pulls you in for a hug.
‘Take care.’ he says as he pulls away.
Nina moves past Matthias and pulls you in for another hug.
‘That first one was for Nikolai, this one’s for you.’ she whispers.
You blink furiously to stop the tears from falling. Saints, you really were going to miss them. But there was no need for tears, you’d see them again in summer. You smile at her as she pulls away.
‘I’m going to miss you.’ you say. ‘All of you.’
‘You’ll see us again.’ says Nina. ‘Now go! You’ve kept him waiting for long enough.’
You walk down the stairs, and grab your coat when you get to the bottom of the stairs. You poke your head around the door and see Kaz is still sitting in the same spot.
‘Bye, Kaz!’ you say and you wave at him.
He nods at you and briefly smiles. And then you’re out the door.
You don’t even know if there would be a ship at the docks that would sail to Ravka. But you’re still determined to head to Ravka as fast as you could. You walk down the streets toward the docks.
You were going back to Ravka, to your king.

The evidence was clear, the position you were currently in had come about because of some very poor performance on your part, the news had echoed the catastrophes you had caused, especially the attack on Lagos, the governments had lined up to stop it and come to a common agreement to keep you under their command. Deep down you all knew that day would come, though you were confident it would be further away. It had been almost four years since Tony Stark had rescued you from your past, from being a contraption held in a laboratory for research. You had been offered a future where you no longer had to run or hide, you had been offered freedom, a purpose in life, but that bundle of paperwork in front of your eyes was meant to make you a prisoner of the government once again.
The discussion had been getting louder and louder, the different opinions countering each other were causing the nerves to come to the fore, alternating the atmosphere. Although the resolution was clear, there was nothing to be done, you were either with them or against them, becoming a fugitive wanted by the whole world. The Sokovia Accords were established by the United Nations and ratified by 117 nations, and what they proposed was to regulate the activities of the altered individuals, namely that the Avengers would cease to be a private organisation, and from now on would operate under the supervision of a United Nations panel, and only when and if that panel deemed it necessary.
There was no turning back, the consequences had been placed before you for the acts you had committed, it was a one way street, not a return. Secretary Ross had been in charge of presenting you with the whole set of papers that would have to be signed by you, but convincing you all to agree was not going to be so easy.
“So let's say we agree to this thing,” Sam said, unresponsive to the situation. “How long is it gonna be before they LoJack us like a bunch of common criminals?”
“A 117 countries want to sign this,” Rhodes reminded him.  “117, Sam, and you're just like, ‘No, that's cool. We got it.’”
Unlike them, you chose to keep a few metres away from the meeting table, remain silent and meditate with yourself on the proposal, not that you didn't know the pros and cons or the consequences of not signing the agreements, but that you wanted to analyse the situation from different points of view without the others questioning your opinions.
"Tony. You are being uncharacteristically non-hyper-verbal," Natasha said, turning her gaze to Tony.
“It's because he's already made up his mind,” Steve's tone seemed harsher than usual.
“Boy, you know me so well,” Tony countered sarcastically, then turned his gaze and gestured in your direction.  "She does seem to have made up her mind what her decision is."
You felt the gaze of everyone present focus on you, who unlike him preferred to be absorbed in the shadows, hiding from the attention of your companions. But in the end, perhaps his words were true and you had made a decision, a decision that you were not going to allow anyone to choose for you.
"I guess it's not as simple as you're trying to make us believe Tony," your tone was calm and affable, knowing that you were about to receive a sarcastic and ironic counterattack from him.
"Simple?" he gets up from the sofa raising his hands, walking towards the kitchen area, where you were sitting on a stool. "You think it's simple for me?" he pulls a mobile device out of his pocket and sets it down right in front of you on the top, the device projecting an image of a smiling young man. "Oh, that's Charles Spencer, by the way. He's a great kid. Computer engineering degree, 3.6 GPA. Had a floor level gig at Intel planned for the fall. But first, he wanted to put a few miles on his soul, before he parked it behind a desk. See the world. Maybe be of service. Charlie didn't want to go to Vegas or Fort Lauderdale, which is what I would do. He didn't go to Paris or Amsterdam, which sounds fun. He decided to spend his summer building sustainable housing for the poor. Guess where, Sokovia."
You look down, you understand perfectly what he means, you remember what happened in Sokovia, you remember because you were there, you saw with your own eyes what happened and also the consequences of your actions. But you knew that any decision had consequences and they could have been much worse if you had not acted, although there were also causes for your own fault.
"He wanted to make a difference, I suppose," Tony continued, looking directly at you, his tone rising and stiffening. "I mean, we won't know because we dropped a building on him while we were kicking ass."
After his last word, silence filled the room, everyone in the room was reliving the ghosts of the past. Tony definitely realising that you weren't going to look up to return his gaze decided to head back into the room with the others.
"There's no decision-making process here. We need to be put in check! Whatever form that takes..."
You felt his voice trailing off, then Steve seemed to come in to debate various points, but you could barely focus on what each of them was saying. An internal struggle was going on inside you, and you couldn't wait to see who was going to win.
"I have to go."
You looked up after hearing those words spoken by Steve, his body rose energetically, dropping the agreements from his hand. That was the beginning of all the consequences that were to come after we had made the decision not to sign.
Your steps were decisive, you walked through those long corridors that had become your home for the last few years, knowing that you would most likely never see them again, or at least not for an indefinite period of time. You truly believed you had made a decision, a decision that could become the decision of a lifetime, a before and after in the life process you had created for yourself. You believed that you knew the consequences, that you would be willing to face them as they came. You knew there were going to be setbacks, obstacles, but you didn't expect one as big as him to stand in your way.
"So you've made your decision?" the figure of Tony stood in the doorway of your room, a serious look on his face seeming to immobilise you. "Are you going to leave with Steve?
"I think it's for the best," your words were blunt, as you packed your most essential belongings into a rucksack.
His body entered your room just before the door closed behind him. You knew Tony well enough to know that his next words to you were likely to make an impression on you, but your mind was made up.
"Did you hear anything I just said in the living room?" he pursed his lips and ran his fingers nervously over them.
"Don't make this difficult for me," those words left your lips almost as a plea.
You barely looked at him, your back was turned to him and your eyes were focused on the inside of that backpack that seemed to have no end.
"I suppose you know that your decision is a single ticket," his words were firm. "That you're basically signing your own fucking sentence."
"No," you dropped the backpack and turned to him to find yourself face to face. "That's exactly what I'm running from," you sighed. "I think you of all people know that I know what it's like to be someone's property, that I've been for far too long and that's what really scares me," your pupils dilated as you remembered every single moment you'd lived hidden from the world, being an experiment. "I don't need guys in ties fighting for their own interests telling me what to do or where to go, because my freedom ends when they command me," the seriousness on Tony's face had relaxed, he kept his gaze on his feet and nodded. "I want you to know that I'm going with Steve because you had already made your decision."
The tension spread slightly around you, so much was hidden in those words, much more than what was shown. The complexity of the situation went far beyond signing or not signing the agreements, it was the break-up of a group, of friends, of family, something that could never be put back together again.
"I... I don't know if I'm going to be able to protect you," Tony clenched his jaw as he denied to himself, resting his brown eyes on yours again.
"I never asked you to."
You knew perfectly well how much your words must have hurt him, and what he meant when he said he couldn't protect you. There were so many hidden things in the air, but this was not the right time to start that conversation, maybe it was too late, nothing was going to change things so you asked yourself to please not make things more complicated. You turned around and nimbly zipped up your backpack, everything you had of great sentimental value was inside.
"I'm sorry," you whispered, hanging the backpack over your right shoulder and looking up at him.
"You're not sorry," his tone became serious, but at the same time indifferent, he was hurt. His gaze turned away from yours.
"This isn't what I wanted to happen," you whispered hoping that wasn't the last image you would see of him before you left.
"So, all you have to do was stay," those were the words that almost caused something inside you to stir, but you only gave a small, wistful smile as you looked at his face.
"You know I can't," you whispered hoping he wouldn't extract his share of indifference towards you again. "Please don't make it more complicated for me, because I can't deal with you right now.”
It was impossible to explain to you at that moment the dilemma that was building up inside you. On the one hand your ethics and your values were what prevented you from signing those damn papers that limited and curtailed your freedoms, it was something you assumed. On the other hand, how could it be so hard to leave Tony, why, what was going on right now that you couldn't face?
"Maybe you should just leave now," Tony slipped his hands into his Tom Ford trouser pockets and focused his gaze on the door to your room.
You nodded slowly, your brow furrowed and your lips parted as you didn't expect those words at all, you were ready to start an internal struggle, but he had already sentenced the conversation.
"Alright," you muttered, taking a step backwards, away from him. "Bye Tony."
As you got closer to that door a lump settled tighter in your throat, like a dramatic movie you expected him to say something to stop you at any moment, but he didn't. The door opened and allowed you to leave. The corridors seemed miles long, perhaps because time was slowing down. A black car could be seen from the wide glass windows, there were Steve and Sam waiting for you. A guilty smile appeared on your face as you walked back through the hall, bidding farewell to those present.
As you stepped outside, the air seemed to open up your lungs again, which had been stuck after the last goodbye you had said to Tony. Sam was inside the car, and Steve took care of getting your rucksack into the boot, along with his shield and Sam's wings.
"Are you all right?" muttered Steve, to which your response was a gentle nod.
As you rested your hand on the handle to open the car door, you couldn't help but direct your gaze towards the top of the building, right where you had left Tony a few minutes ago. But there was definitely no sign coming from that spot to stop you from continuing on your way.
The next few days the situation became more complex than anyone here would have expected. Agent Carter's funeral passed without incident, Natasha appeared to inform you that she was leaving for Vienna to sign the agreements, that there was still a chance for you to change your minds, but none of you did. Perhaps it was for the best, because during the signing an attack happened on the spot, an attack that changed the course of things. All eyes were on the Winter Soldier, Bucky, that directed Steve, Sam and you to Bucharest in a supposed attempt to get to Bucky before the authorities did.
"They're on the roof," Sam reported over the intercom.
"Steve get out of there right now," you said hiding on the roof of the building next door. "I can sense you but I can't surround your body with psychic energy unless you come out into the open."
That day was one of the worst failures you had ever managed to pull off, perhaps it was obvious that things didn't go quite right when feelings ran high, and it showed in Steve, especially when law enforcement trapped you in that tunnel.
"Stand down, now," War machine appeared before you to end the fatal chase and set you on your way to Berlin.
You knew what would follow, there was only one way out or the consequences would be far more extreme, either sign the agreements or become prisoners of the law. Things were different for you, Captain could have his shield removed, Sam could have his wings removed and T'Challa, who had appeared in pursuit out of nowhere could have his suit removed too, but you and Bucky were far more dangerous, especially as your powers and dangers were in the mind.
When you arrived at the facility in that armoured truck Bucky was put in an extreme protection capsule, that marked memory making you remember the past time.
"What's going to happen to him?" asked Steve walking beside you in the direction of Everett Ross, Deputy Commander of the Joint Forces.
"The same as you. Psychological evaluation and extradition," he focused his gaze on you.  "Miss Y/L/N, let's hope you'll be cooperative."
You understood his words, you knew the fear you could cause, force could be controlled, the mind was much more complicated.
"Of course," you affirmed with all your good intentions.
You didn't know where, but you assumed that in a few minutes you were going to meet him again in some remote part of that building, you could feel it. First it was Natasha who approached you, and then when you stepped inside the control room there was Tony, talking on the phone.
"[...] consequences?" he turned his body towards you, his gaze fixed on you, which made you cross your arms and look around, avoiding her. "Of course there will be consequences."
"Consequences?" asked Steve with a serious look on his face.
"Secretary Ross wants to prosecute the three of you. I had to give something."
You walked away from them, realising that you had two armed men following your every step around that room. You watched the monitors, every corner of the planet seemed to be controlled by them, there was nothing they could miss, you could even see yourself reflected in one of them.
"Is it worth it?" you turned your face to find yourself face to face with the one who had made you doubt your decision a few days ago.
He took his right hand out of one of his trouser pockets and made a slight gesture for the two security officers who had been assigned to you to move a little away from you, offering you some privacy.
"What do you mean?" you cocked your head to one side. Your voice was stiff, you were tense enough about the situation to offer him a friendly tone.
"I don't know, was it worth risking everything to find yourself back here with possible legal charges?" you didn't deny it, Tony's words hurt.
"Are you rejoicing?" you squinted, uncrossing your arms and turning your whole body towards him.
"How do you think this will all end?" he ran his index finger down the side of his mouth, his nervousness showing. Those words made you shudder. "Now you have a chance, don't let it slip away."
"Please, don't make this worse than it already is," your pleas were in vain. The last thing you wanted right now was a lecture from Tony.
"This wouldn't even abe problem, if you wouldn't make one out of it!" his voice was authoritative.
Your refusals and hesitations had gotten on his nerves, it was evident in the way he was addressing you. That was the last thing you wanted to do, to cause trouble, but it was clear that you were on the defensive against any verbal attack Tony might offer you. Sparks could almost fly between your gazes, which were still on after the conversation was over. You had no idea what was going to happen next, so you were grateful that Natasha caught Tony's attention at that moment, breaking into a battle that wasn't going anywhere.
The hours passed really slowly, so you found a space in a glassed-in conference room to settle in, under, of course, the watchful eye of the guards in charge of you, until you were called in for your psychological analysis.
"Do you need anything?" the door closed behind him.
"Are you playing good cop?" you asked watching as he dropped his blazer on a chair and sat down right next to you. "You're not giving up, are you?"
"I'll take every last cartridge," he leaned his elbow on the table and dropped his chin into the palm of his hand. "You know, I was just remembering earlier when we all went to that Italian restaurant in Soho on your birthday, and then we were at the concert by.... Oh, what was the name of the band? "
"What are you trying Tony?" you cocked your head to the side with a small smile on your face.
"I'm trying to... how do you say?" he rested his index finger on your lips. "Signing a peace agreement? Trying to get to your sensitive spot, because you have one, right?"
"I don't know, I guess if you have one I might as well, huh?" you arched an eyebrow, intertwining your fingers on the table, causing him to make a gesture of placing his hands on yours, but he never got to touch them by restraining himself, so you ignored the gesture.  "Do you want to sign a peace agreement with me, or do you want me to sign the Sokovia Accords?"
He took a breath and let it out slowly through his nostrils. He was completely frustrated, you knew it, you could feel it, he had rarely been involved in those situations that were out of his control.
"Listen," he paused slightly, bringing his fingers to his chin. "I think it's time that I..." he tore his gaze away from yours, let it wander, searching for his words as he gestured with his right hand. "I've tried many times, to do this but.... God, this really is the worst time to do it." He looked around nervously and then crossed his arms, but quickly pulled them apart. "Whatever. We're... well, I... it's likely that I, maybe, can feel..."
You would remember that moment all your life, especially since you wouldn't know until many years later what he meant to say to you. At that moment the lights went out, the monitors stopped working and everything was dark around you, only red flickering lights would have made their way into your darkness. Your head swivelled around you in search of whatever it was that was going on, Tony got up from his seat and placed his glasses over his eyes.
"Friday, give me the source of the blackout," he said to himself.
Finally your eyes focused on Steve and Sam, who were standing next to Sharon in the next room. You listened as Sharon informed them of Bucky's location, and a last glance towards you informed you that they were going to head that way, but just as you were about to leave that meeting room a hand came down hard around your arm.
"Stay with me," the trembling words that came from his lips seemed to shake your insides.
"I can't," you mumbled through your teeth almost with all the pain in your heart.
His fingers loosened, allowing you to leave the room as quickly as possible, but you took one last second to contemplate his face and how many feelings were hidden in it. You knew you only had one chance, everyone present was distracted enough to find the reason for the blackout, you had only a few seconds to get out of the room without being seen, and a couple of minutes before they noticed, so you didn't take long to do it.
A new decision piled up on your list, always facing the consequences you had acquired, and fighting against the feelings your heart presented to you. It wasn't easy, you hadn't given it much thought either, but what you did know was that you didn't regret having done it, at least so far.

¤~°Ghost Marriage: Lovely Bride To Be?! Part 2°~¤
Previously...
"Your right. You will become my bride and then become a princess."
"Huh?"
(Y/N) could feel her skin turn cold after what Elias said. "Your joking right?" (Y/N) blurted out with fear creeping into her soul. Elias just kept smiling as he placed his cup down on the counter and goes closer to (Y/N). Taking the bear mug from her paleling hands. The Ghost Groom placed it next to the other mug. Elias almost translucent hands holds (Y/N)'s gently.
"No. We will be married twomrrow, my dear princess!" Elias said sweetly like honey. (Y/N) could feel herself grow faint as she falls into the Ghost grooms hold. Then the last thing she could see was her mugs before sleep consumed her body.
Present Time...
"*Yawn~*" Grim found himself awake as he stretches his body. He looks at where (Y/N) was supposed to be. But she wasn't there at all. "Weird.. Did (Y/N) awoke earlier than the Great Grim? She must be down stairs making tuna for breakfast!"
Grim cheers loudly, hopping out of the bed and starts heading down the stairs.
"Tuna~ Tuna~!" Grim sang as he reached the the hallway to the kitchen. He then heard a yell and stopped singing. "You, Trespasser! Stop right there!"
"Huh!?" Grim found himself being surrounded by three ghosts. "Oh it's just the usual ghosts. Or not.. They're wearing something different?" Grim asks himself with confusion.
"This mansion is the prince's and his brides reception hall. It's off limits four outsiders!" One of the odd ghosts yells. "Prince? Bride?? Reception hall??" Grim was growing even more confused than ever before. "I don't get it, but it's my dorm. The outsiders are you guys!" Grim says in retaliation.
"What a proud sentence. Before youngsters like you were born. We decided this place was going to belong to our country!" The leader stated pridefully.
"If you don't want to get out, then we'll drive you away by force! Get out before your beaten up by us!"
"Ffnga!!" Grim cries out in shock as the ghosts rush towards him. Not having a enough time to use his fire breath. Grim flees, rushing towards the exit of the Rambschakle dorm. Yet the ghosts kept chasing after him until he got outside the  gate.
"*Huff, huff!*" Grim pants out of breath. Grim looks behind him to see the ghost guards nowhere in sight. Yet the gate was locked shut to let anyone in the dorm. "Those ghosts took away me and (Y/N)'s dorm. What the hell is happening right now!" Grim growls out after regaining his breath.
Grim heads over to the main campus to talk with the principal about this ghost problem. Once he made it to his office and explained what happened. Mr. Crowley responds with. "Since no one was using the Ramshackle dorm. It became guest house last year before you two arrived."
The headmaster mutters under his breath. "It's that season of the year again.."
"Huh? What do you mean by "season"?" Grim asks confusingly. Mr. Crowley gave a calm smile. "The one who drove you l off is the family of Ghost Groom." The headmaster says simply. "A Ghost Groom? I don't know if that's something we should admire or be scared of..." Grim thought of the Ghost Groom
"Even if you say so. He's still a princes of a destroyed country from a long time ago. The princes always dreamed of getting married to his "dear princess". Sadly before he could fulfil his wish, his life ended right then and there. Even though he became a ghost. He still is looking for his ideal prince..."
"When that season of the year had come. They will search all over Twisted Wonderland to find the perfect bride." Mr. Crowley explained. "It seems like they had chosen Ramshackle dorm as a place to stay when they accomplish their mission. I'm glad they chose one of NRC building for such a occasion!" Mr. Crowley states with pride.
"It's not time for you to be proud! Just drive those troublesome ghosts away!" Grim says furiously. "It would be trouble if we drove them away... *Cough!* Don't you feel sorry for them? Just let them be."
"Why?!" Grim questions angrily. "Because the prince will be looking for a princess that doesn't even exist in our school."
" "A princess that doesn't even exist"? What do you mean by that?"
"Well...The Ghost Groom ideal princess is... Someone who is (Your Height). Someone with smooth looking skin. Someone with kind eyes. A charming smile, a sweet voice that holds determination. Someone with cuticles and soft (h/l) hair. And lips that you would want to kiss unconditionally.~  Those are the terms the ghost groom is looking for."
The headmaster started to laugh. "He is trying to find someone super beautiful and kind. Someone like that doesn't exist, he would have to search everywhere for his ideal princess. Especially at a all boys academy!" The headmaster said, trying to stifle his giggles.
"Wouldn't you agree (Y/N)?" The headmaster says as he waits for the female to answer. But not a single peep was heard. "Huh? Wasn't (Y/N) with you Grim??" Mr. Crowley said with a eyebrow raised in confusion. "No? She wasn't even in the Ramshackle dorm when the ghosts attacked..."
Before the two could ponder over the fact that where the female was. Ortho rushes into the principles office. "Young Shroud, what is the matter?" "Ghosts are taking over the school and kidnapped (Y/N)!!!!"
"Ehh?! Kidnapped?!!" The two idiots yell in sync. Ortho nods his head in agreement. "Yes! Look at this video! It’s last night’s video from the school’s cctv!" Crowley gaped in shocked. "Hey! Please don’t hack the school’s security system!"
Ortho shakes his head and whispers. "Shh, be quiet! I’ll play the video." The younger Shroud pulls out Idias tablet and types in something. Soon Ortho shows the video to the two. The video slowly starts to play.
"*Bzzt... Bzz..*"
The video showed Idia walking about the campus. A slight skip in his step as he walked. "I’ve ordered my favorite manga’s newest print... Along with the spacial mini colored papers. But why is it not delivered by the release date!?" Idia sighs, "it’s a disgrace as an otaku to not get it on the first date. There’s nobody around too, let’s hurry and go to the shop..."
"...ound you..." A unknown voice whispers.
Idia goes quiet, "Eh? Just now... Did I hear someone’s voice?" The unknown voice speaks again. "I finally... found you..." Soon two figures rush past Idia. Though mainly it was a male ghost carrying a, what seemed to be a unconscious (Y/N).
"MY PRINCESS!!!!!!!!" The male ghosts shouts into the air with glee. Not noticing poor Idia who was spooked. "GYAA———!!!!!" He screamed in fear as the ghost flys past him. Then the video ends.
"*Bzzt! Bzzzzzz———*"
The three people in the room went silent. "... this ghost is..." Grim tries to say, but his words turned quiet. Mr. Crowley "Yes... Such a thing... Has happened." Mr. Crowley takes a deep breath. "It seems like the ghost groom has finally found his ideal bride!"
Grim was stares at the Headmaster with fear. "The ideal bride is... (Y/N)!? She’s not at all a princess! She may be kind, nice and stuff. But that's just in her nature! (Y/N)'s always determined because we deal with problems that you or other students give us! And you call her tired grin a charming smile?" Grim states truthfully.
Mr. Crowley starts to mumble a bit. "Huh..?" "(Your Height), kind eyes, sweet voice, charming smile... or not. (h/l) hair.. I think it’s fits the ideal of the ghost prince." Mr. Crowley tells himself quietly.
Ortho (who had heard Mr. Crowley) also agreed with the Headmaster. "Yup. Based on my brothers taste and other students. (Y/N) is cool from every angle. Damn you ghost, what a precise eyes you have!"
"I can’t really agree..." Grim sighs out.
"Anyway, it seems like we have a trouble." Mr Crowley remarks as he placed a gloved finger under his chin. "If (Y/N)'s chosen to be the ghost’s bride, then that means..." "It’s a problem—-!! The three heard a student screamed loudly.
" "It sure is noisy outside!" Mr. Crowley tells himself as he, Ortho and Grim rush outside the office. Standing in the middle of the interior hallway. "What is this riot!" Mr. Crowley yells out.
Ace, who was in hall. Runs up to the three with Deuce beside him. "Headmaster... ah, and also Grim! There’s a problem!" "There are so many ghosts that we haven't seen before. They appeared out of nowhere!" Deuce adds on, "they are taking over the cafeteria and are saying something like. "This will be the ceremony hall of the wedding"! We resisted them, but no matter how much we take them down. The ghosts keep reviving!"
"STOP YOUR STEP!!"
At the end of the hall, Senior Vanrouge and Sebek were conversing with the ghosts knights. "They became angery just because of a mere joke I made about them. Such a bunch of narrow minded ghosts." Lilia jests with ignorance in his tone.
"Ugh, the guys from Diasomnia! Why did you bring these ghosts here?!" Ace yells out in fear. "You naive ghosts who dare to snarl at Lilia. I'll get tid of you guys!" Sebek said with very little amusement.
To be continued...
(Okay! Part 2 is out! I hope you guys liked this and part 1. Notes and reblogs are appreciated (with credit)! Also, if anyone wants to chat or ask questions, hit me up! I wanna here some chapter five theories too.)

Tumblr media
Two years later…New York
Steve would never admit it but even after two years, he takes a detour when he goes for a run to clear his mind – or rather to get away from his wife for a few silent moments.
Steve always runs along the streets leading to your home. For a few moments, he just stares up to your window, wishing he could ring and tell you all the things he never said.
It’s too late, he knows it is, but he wishes he would catch you look out of the window or at least see your shadow. Sadly, every time he passes your building your light is never on.
Darkness greets him and he sighs, every time before he turns to run back to the woman, to the life he chose over you. He doesn’t know you moved out of the apartment a few days after you got out of the hospital.
Steve doesn’t know anything about you, your dreams, or life anymore. He lost his place in your heart and now that you moved on from him there will never be a place for him in your life …
I'm not sitting with my head in my hands right now
I don't care where you've been
No, I ain't watching the clock or getting my phone out
I won't drink myself to sleep
Oh, oh
Tumblr media
“A wonderful engagement party, Pepper,” you smiled wildly, hugging your friend. “I’m glad Tony finally manned up and ask you, Pep.”
“Careful, kiddo,” Tony smirks, wrapping his arm around you. “We all missed you kid. I can’t tell you how often Wanda and Natasha argued who can use my secured communication system to call you first.”
“I’m sorry for causing trouble, Sir,” giggling you hug him back, not missing the way he holds you tight enough to take your breath away. “I promise to not become invisible again. Tons, I had to take my time, lick my wounds to come back stronger than before.”
“That’s my girl,” Natasha squeals, running toward you. You always wondered how the assassin manages to run in ten-inch high heels. “I knew you would hit the party.”
“How could I miss Tony Stark's defeat? Pepper Potts made him an honest man,” you tease, hugging your friend. Acting as if you didn’t see Natasha on a regular base you hug laugh when she whispers ‘missed you’.
It pains you that anyone believed you left the country to get better. Truth is after you burned every trace, every single piece that was left of Steve in your life you rose like a phoenix out of the ashes of your relationship.
Natasha was the one helping you to find a safe place, not giving away she knows where you went to. “I’ve missed our best girl too, Romanoff,” Sam smirks, tugging at Natasha's shoulder. “Let me hug the pretty rogue lady.”
“Sam Wilson, the eternal charmer,” you hug Sam, holding him tight. “I’ve missed my wingman too, Wilson. I never thought watching awful movies without you would bring me to tears.”
“Next weekend, Y/L/N. You, me and the gang will watch a marathon of movies I will choose,” Sam smirks, letting you hold him a bit longer.
“Don’t you forget an important date?” Tony clears his throat. “Next weekend, a wedding. Tony Stark marries?”
“Damn, Stark. Do not ruin our plans,” Natasha teases, giving Sam a wink for the great prank. “We will of course come to your wedding, Tony. Now our girl is back she will have to bear movie nights every month.”
Looking around the small round, seeing all their happy faces you feel a pull in your chest. It almost feels like back then, when you and Steve were still a thing and the team cheered for you.
“Doll,” Bucky waltzes toward you, flashing you a smile. “I must admit, you stole my heart the moment you entered the building,” you giggle, wrapping yourself around Bucky, Steve’s eldest friend.
“Barnes stop worming your way into Y/N’s heart,” Clint smirks when Bucky won’t let go of you. “Fine, I’ll have her back in that case.”
Sandwiched between Clint and Bucky you don’t see another pair of eyes watching you reunite with your friends, your family.
You can’t see the way Steve’s eyes roam your body, admiring the dress you wear. It’s a red dress, backless, with a large slit, revealing your right leg. While you wear light make-up your red lips and the black heels Natasha helped you to pick scream ‘sexy bitch’.
“I think Wanda is missing. Where is she?” Wanda waves at you, pointing toward Vision who awkwardly tugs at his suit. “Vision hates suits, huh?”
“Don’t ask, Y/N. I had to beg and plead to get him into a suit,” Tony sighs, waving at Wanda to join your reunion. You smile at Wanda, but your eyes drift toward Steve who tries to maintain eye contact but looks away when you refuse to look away.
You don't, you don't get under my skin no more
No, it's gone, it's gone
I ain't thinking 'bout you no more
All your friends talk about the things happening over the last two years. Laughter fills the room when Bruce and Thor along with Loki finally join your group. Peter is awkwardly glancing around the room, not feeling in his element at all.
“You adopted another one,” you tease, holding out your hand to greet the shy boy. “I’m honored to finally meet you, Peter Parker.”
“Same, ma’am,” of course Peter heard about you, the woman who was the glue to the Avengers, the one who almost caused a rift between the team and Steve.
“Don’t flatter me, Peter. I only was someone’s girlfriend until he found someone new. I was just…”
“Family,” Tony jumps in.
“A friend,” Clint adds.
“The one keeping us together,” Bucky slings one arm around your waist to peck your cheek. The way he holds you close to his body, his hand on your hip, and the fact he glares at Steve whenever he dares to look at you tell Tony one thing…you moved on and Steve won’t like it.
“I was just me, guys, okay. You were the ones taking me in, giving me a home and task,” you sniffle squeezing the hand Tony holds out. “I had to go to not cause a deeper rift. If I could’ve done it differently…”
“We get it, Y/N. Steve is still Captain America, douche or not,” Peter’s words make you chuckle. You never thought the boy had it in him. “He broke your heart, and the Avengers were on your side. What you did was heroic. I admire you for giving your friends and family up for the greater good.”
“Tony keep that fine young man,” you hug Peter, pressing a kiss to his cheek. “Thank you, Peter.”
“You’re welcome, ma’am. I admire Captain America, but Steve Rogers did the wrong thing back then,” Bucky nods, watching his friend finally walk over to you.
Tony expects you to stiffen or to see a flash of emotions in your eyes but oddly, there is nothing. No reacting. No hurting. Not even a nervous huff.
I found a way to let you go
So you don't have to stay now
A broken mind, I came close
But you can't rip my heart out
I'm giving up, I'm giving up, I'll give you up
I found a way to let you go
It's gonna rip your heart out
When you step away from Peter to grasp for Bucky’s hand Tony nods silently, a smug grin on his lips.
Until now you wore elbow gloves but when your eyes hold Steve’s gaze you slowly roll the gloves down your arms, taking the left one off first.
“Y/N, it’s good to see you,” Steve’s voice trembles when you do not hug him or at least recognize his presence until you stripped your hand gloves off.
Two years ago you wouldn’t have been able to face the man breaking your heart but now – you are stronger.
Got your picture covering up the cracks on the wall
But the lines won't fade
Didn't think that I would be missing you at all
Maybe that was my mistake
Oh, oh
You don't, you don't, get under my skin no more
No, it's gone, it's gone
I ain't thinking 'bout you no more
“Steven, a pleasant evening to meet again,” your voice strong you hold out your hand, letting Steve shake it. He frowns feeling a ring poke his hand.
His eyes flicker for a moment when they drop to your hand to find an engagement ring on your ring finger. There is no hint of the vulnerable girl he left two years ago when you meet his eyes again.
“You’re engaged,” he chokes out now, hand trembling. Steve is too engrossed in staring at you that he barely recognizes Sharon stepped toward your group, a grin on her pink lips.
“I…I guess it’s on me to congratulate you and your soon-to-be husband. Maybe you can bring him next time too?” You smile, holding Sharon’s gaze. Face stoic you hold out your hand and Steve swears his heart stopped beating for a moment.
“I don’t think we will need to wait until next time, Sharon,” you spat her name, feeling Bucky interlace his fingers with yours. “We wanted to announce our engagement after Tony and Pepper's wedding, but the cat is out, I guess.”
Steve’s face falls when Bucky wraps his arm around your waist, holding you flush to his body to kiss you passionately. “When did you happen? I mean…” Sharon stammers, seeing her husband’s face turn pale.
I found a way to let you go
So you don't have to stay now
A broken mind, I came close
But you can't rip my heart out
I'm giving up, I'm giving up, I'll give you up
I found a way to let you go
It's gonna rip your heart out
“I don’t know when it started to become more than friendship,” you look at Bucky who looks at you as if you are the sun and moon. You smile, gently cupping Bucky’s cheek to stroke his skin. “I moved out of the apartment with Natasha’s help. I tried to hide to not, well, destroy the Avengers by forcing them to choose.” Sharon snorts, glaring at you.
“As if the Avengers would’ve chosen you over Captain America, my husband,” she spats, grasping for Steve’s hand. You can see the struggle on Steve’s face whilst his wife tries to convince herself she is holding Steve’s heart.
“We would’ve chosen Y/N over him anytime, Agent Carter,” Tony grits out. “Steve is a good fighter, a loyal friend and colleague but, what he did to be with you crossed more than one line.”
“That’s what I tried to avoid so I hid, pretending I’m out of the country,” you give Tony an apologetic smile. “Sorry, but I had to do it, Tons. I wanted to move on and started to write again. At first poems, later short stories. I wrote at a park, had my own bench. That’s how I met Bucky.”
“Around four months after she moved out I saw her at the park. She looked so cute but lost at the same time,” Bucky smiles at the memory. You ran toward him, hugging him tightly, not wanting to let go. “I know that moment I will never let her go again. I must admit, I always loved Y/N. Steve just asked her out before I got the chance to do so.”
“As a good friend Bucky wanted Steve to keep his luck,” you huff, looking at Sharon. “Honestly, I’m glad you stole Steve. I never was happier than I’m now, with the right man by my side.”
Another stab to Steve’s heart makes him visibly flinch. You never thought it would be you being the one moving on from your past with Steve.
Tumblr media
The party is almost over. Most of the guests left but you are still slow dancing with Bucky. You don’t care Steve watches you. Arms crossed over his chest, jaw set his blue eyes follow your every step.
“We should head home, Stevie,” Sharon swallows thickly when you lift your head from Bucky’s shoulder to meet her eyes. For the first time you see uncertainty in her eyes, and it brings a wicked grin on your lips.
“That’s the result of stealing someone else’s man, Sharon,” Pepper smirks, watching Bucky sway you gently. “Whilst you believed Steve is finally yours, Y/N moved on. Unlike his ex-fiancé, your husband still clings to his past. Must be hard to compare with Peggy Carter and the great Y/N Y/L/N, good luck.” Tony chuckles when Pepper grasps for his hand to have one last dance.
“You’re evil, Pep. One of the reasons I love you so much,” Tony swoons, leading his fiancé toward the dance floor.
Steve closes his eyes, remembering the first and last time you danced like this. A single tear rolls down his cheek when he realizes he should’ve cherished the dance as you will never be in his arms again…
Nothing you say will change my mind
You couldn't wait to leave me behind
Nothing you say will change my mind
You couldn't wait to leave me behind
Nothing you say will change my mind
You couldn't wait to leave me behind
I found a way to let you go
So you don't have to stay now
A broken mind, I came close
But you can't rip my heart out
I'm giving up, I'm giving up, I'll give you up
I found a way to let you go
It's gonna rip your heart out

An Agreement Between Gentlemen (Chapter 2/?)
Continuation of the E/R Bridgerton AU (chapter 1 tumblr | AO3) with all the shenanigans. And some fake marriage. Because why not.
This Author has long been of the opinion that there is nothing so dangerous during the season as a mother desperate to make a match for her daughter, especially when that daughter is plain, or comes without a substantial dowry. But this season may bring a danger even greater than a desperate mother of daughters: desperate mothers of sons, unable – or unwilling – to seal the deal.
While certainly families with daughters, no matter how titled or landed, stand to lose much if they are unable to find a suitable marriage, the prospect of title or land passing out of the family without a suitable heir is enough to drive even the most respectable of families to desperate measures. Especially in the case of the Marquess of Enjolras, who is approaching thirty without a suitable marriage match in sight.
It is rumoured that the Dowager Marchioness is at her wit’s end and determined that her son shall marry by the end of the season. She is even accused of going so far as to negotiate terms without her son’s knowledge. There were several reports of a great row coming from the elder and younger Enjolras earlier this month, with son and mother shouting at each other for the entire park to hear.
The Dowager Marchioness finds herself in good company, at the least: the Duchess de Courfeyrac has long despaired to any who will listen that her eldest will never settle down, and the rumour is that the Baron of Pontmercy has proclaimed he is refusing to marry any girl save for young lady he caught glimpse of for but a moment at the Thénardiers’ ball (and whom he has never seen since, assuming she does exist). And of course, the landed gentry without titles find themselves in similar straits. Just take Mr. Grantaire, who, despite owning one of the largest houses bordering the park, has yet to find a wife, and as he is well past the age one would expect, his father has all but given up on him and retired out of the country.
Of course, with the exception of Baron Pontmercy, it is well known that neither Lord Courfeyrac nor Mr. Grantaire, nor most other young rakes who have yet to settle down, finds himself short of unsuitable women, but our gentle readers will know that unscrupulous women might warm a bed but will rarely walk down an aisle. And on a contrary note, the Marquess may well be a monk – there is not a single rumour that this Author has heard of any woman, suitable or otherwise, who has warmed his bed.
Then again, there is none who would ever think to bat the term ‘rake’ in the direction of Lord Enjolras.
But speaking of our notable rakes, this Author has learned that the Marquess of Enjolras has called upon Mr. Grantaire this past week. And our readers may remember that despite several seasons’ worth of acquaintance under their belts that neither man would consider the other friend, which causes this Author to wonder just what those two have to discuss.
Whatever they may be up to, this Author is certain it will bring nothing but more despair to their poor guardians. LADY WHISTLEDOWN’S SOCIETY PAPERS, 18  APRIL 1831
Grantaire blinked. "I beg your pardon?" he said, and Enjolras thought it was too his credit that he sounded only mildly baffled.
Still, Enjolras could not help the flush that rose in his cheeks at the absurdity of his request. "I am fairly certain that you heard me perfectly well," he said, a little stiffly.
"Heard you, certainly, but..." Grantaire trailed off. "You wish for me to help you get married."
"Correct."
"But you need that marriage..."
Again he trailed off, and Enjolras cleared his throat delicately. "To not be real, correct," he finished in what he hoped was a helpful way.
Judging by the look Grantaire gave him, it had not been. Still, Grantaire was silent for a long moment, taking several sips of whiskey before telling Enjolras, "I will not claim to be anyone's first choice to ask for help with any variety of matters, but I still never thought I would see the day when I would be asked by a marquess to assist him in committing fraud."
"And yet if memory serves, once upon a time, you offered me your help with anything," Enjolras said. "You even offered to black my boots."
Grantaire looked momentarily surprised. "I did not think you would remember that."
Enjolras shrugged. "It was not I who drank my weight in wine that evening."
Grantaire smirked. "True enough." His smile faded slightly and he finished his second glass of whiskey before standing and crossing again to the drink cart. "While my offer of assistance still stands, there is something I must know first."
Enjolras eyed him warily. "What's that?" he asked.
"Why," Grantaire said simply, pouring himself another glass. "If you wish for my help, I need to understand the circumstances that have driven you to this most desperate – and patently absurd – endeavor."
Enjolras scowled, though he had certainly assumed that Grantaire would not just blindly assist him without asking why. "Fine," he snapped. "If it will move this conversation along, then I will tell you."
He waited for Grantaire to return to his seat with his whiskey before sighing and telling him grudgingly, "It's my mother."
"Your mother," Grantaire repeated.
"Yes," Enjolras said stiffly. "Do you intend on repeating everything I say? Because if so, this tale may never be finished."
Grantaire arched an eyebrow. "Forgive me, my lord," he said coolly. "Your statement merely took me by surprise, as I did not expect you to be a man who is cowed by anyone, let alone his own mother."
Enjolras sighed and drew a hand across his face. "No, it's you who must forgive me," he said, even more grudgingly than before. "I should not have snapped at you, but my mother..." He sighed again. "There is none who vexes me like she does.
"
"Not even I?" Grantaire asked, a small smile twitching at the corners of his mouth.
"Well," Enjolras allowed, "perhaps one other who vexes me like she does." Grantaire smiled, but it was too soft to be his usual smirk, and there was something in his expression that Enjolras could not quite place, but made him flush again, and he looked away, busying himself by pouring another cup of tea. "In any case, my mother is insisting that I get married so that my future bride's dowry can support the lavish lifestyle to which she has become accustomed."
Grantaire took a sip of whiskey. "And I suppose telling her no is off the table?"
"I have told her no many times," Enjolras said with a sigh. "And cut her off from the money I control to boot. But her only other assets come from some land she inherited in her own right, and she is threatening to raise levies on the poor people who work that land if she does not receive any additional funds."
"Like the fiefdoms of old," Grantaire murmured, a dark looking crossing his face.
Enjolras nodded. "Precisely."
It took a moment for Grantaire's expression to even out, and he gave his head a swift shake. "So then, give her more of your money," he suggested.
"I cannot."
Grantaire's brow furrowed. "Why ever not?"
This, honestly, had been what he had been looking forward to least about having this conversation with Grantaire, in large part because he knew the man was liable to mock him with the reminder that the road to hell was paved with good intentions. "Most of my money is tied into trusts and investments to maintain the houses and lands, and to support infrastructure improvements in the village," Enjolras said. "And what remains is held in a trust by my solicitor that only I can draw on, and for specific purposes only."
"And let me guess, supporting your mother is not one of those specific purposes?"
Grantaire's tone was wry, and Enjolras sighed. "Indeed it is not. In fact, when I wrote the trust covenant, I deliberately chose to strictly forbid that type of use."
It looked as though Grantaire was trying very hard not to roll his eyes, but for once, Enjolras couldn’t really find it in himself to blame him. “So if you can’t use the money already under an existing trust, then you need new money, and the easiest way for that is…”
Grantaire trailed off and Enjolras nodded, relieved that Grantaire had finally caught up. “Some poor girl’s dowry,” he finished.
Grantaire pursed his lips, his expression skeptical. “You truly believe your mother would not just sell some jewels or something if the situation were truly that dire?”
“She might eventually,” Enjolras allowed, but his tone turned grim. “But I know my mother, and purposefully cruel is the kindest way to describe her. She would sooner squeeze every cent from her workers than suffer even a minor inconvenience, no matter the pain or destruction she leaves in her stead.”
“And you’re certain this is not simply a ploy to try to get you married off?” Enjolras looked affronted at the question and Grantaire held his hands up defensively. “I beg your pardon, but it had to be asked. Mothers are known for resorting to extreme measures in their desperation to see their children married off...or so Lady Whistledown would have us all believe.”
Enjolras wet his lips with his tongue as he contemplated his answer. “She might,” he said honestly. “I certainly wouldn’t put it past her. But I believe that if that were her true motive, she would’ve tried to force me into marriage through guilt over wanting grandchildren or a daughter-in-law, not going straight to the money angle.”
Grantaired nodded. “Well,” he said, “it’s good to know that you come by your manipulation tactics honestly, at least.” Enjolras gave him a withering look that Grantaire blithely ignored, asking instead, “What if you used some money from your trust to make a large purchase, a house or a tract of land, and then sold it quickly? Surely the profits from the sale would not fall under the terms of the trust.”
“They would not, but the trust—”
Grantaire groaned. “Do not tell me that you set up the trust so that you could not use it to expand your lands or holdings.”
Enjolras threw his hands up in frustration. “You know damn well I wish to be rid of these things!” he half-shouted, his irritation at the entire situation getting to the better of him. “Why would I allow myself the right to purchase more of that which I wish to depart from?”
“Because you really should have foreseen this becoming an issue,” Grantaire sighed, rubbing his forehead. He drained his glass of whiskey but to Enjolras’s relief, set it down on the table instead of getting up to pour himself another. “May I ask a question you will certainly find foolish?”
“Have you ever asked for my permission before?” Enjolras returned.
Grantaire half-smiled. “A fair question,” he said. “And I suppose I should not get in the habit now. Very well.” He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. “Why can’t you just get married? Most marriages of your social strata are loveless, or at least start out that way, more business arrangements than unions, and most if not all have at least financial motivation.”
Enjolras just shook his head. “I would not do that to any poor woman,” he said, his voice low. “Even if they imagine they would be stuck in a loveless marriage, I would not take from them the chance at one, or at having a family of their own, neither of which they would get from me.”
For a moment, Grantaire’s expression was almost soft as he gazed at him. “I see,” he said slowly, and Enjolras frowned at his sudden change in tone.
“What?”
Grantaire shrugged. “Here I thought you might be waiting for true love.”
Enjolras rolled his eyes again. “Hilarious,” he said dryly.
But Grantaire just gave him a small smile. “I would suggest you do not dismiss the idea until you have tried it.:
Enjolras’s eyes narrowed. “Is that why you’re not wed?” he asked snidely. “Are you waiting for ‘true love’?”
Grantaire’s expression didn’t so much as twitch but Enjolras still immediately regretted his words, or at least the tone with which he delivered them. “I am not wed because I do not wish to be. Now forgive me, but I believe we were here to talk about your nuptial problems, not my own.”
Enjolras nodded stiffly, not quite willing to apologize yet again for the crime of sticking his foot in his mouth, but luckily, Grantaire moved on quickly. “So then borrow money from one of us,” he suggested, tracing a finger idly over the brocade fabric of his chair. “Certainly I can give you the equivalent of a good dowry.”
“And explain it to my mother how?” Enjolras asked. “A dowry is a one-time cash injection that my mother knows will not come again, and she can plan accordingly. If she knows or suspects that I have borrowed money, she will not stop until I have bled my friends dry.”
Grantaire arched an eyebrow. “I did not know that I was counted as one of your friends.”
“Do you really think I would ask this of someone I did not consider friend?”
Grantaire looked away, his expression unreadable. “Well,” he said, his voice a little strange, “in fairness, you do let Marius join us at the Musain, so.”
Enjolras rolled his eyes. “Fine,” he snapped. “I will not let my mother bleed dry my friends, acquaintances and occasional nemeses, then.”
Grantaire looked back at Enjolras, his usual smirk back in full force. “Occasional nemeses,” he repeated. “Oh, I do like the sound of that.”
“Are you going to help me or not?” Enjolras asked impatiently.
Grantaire stood abruptly, but he didn’t return to the drink cart. Instead, he wandered over to the window, tucking his hands in his pockets as he stared out the window overlooking the park. Enjolras knew him well enough to know that he was thinking, and he stayed quiet despite everything in his nature wanting him to ask what was going through Grantaire’s mind.
After a long moment, Grantaire gave his head a little shake, still staring out the window. “It’ll be tricky,” he murmured, almost solely to himself, as if he had forgotten Enjolras was in the room. “We will need a plausible explanation, a suitable scandal...and of course, long-term…”
He broke off and stared out the window in silence for one long before turning back around, his troubled expression replaced by something like resolution. “Adélaïde,” he said, and Enjolras stared at him.
“I’m sorry, who?” he asked blankly.
“My sister,” Grantaire said firmly. “She is the solution. You will marry my sister for her dowry.”
Enjolras opened his mouth and promptly closed it again, completely taken aback by how this conversation had suddenly turned. “And dare I ask what you will say if I tell you that I have absolutely no desire to marry your sister, for her dowry or for any other reason?”
Grantaire didn’t look remotely deterred. “I can’t imagine she’d be too thrilled with the match either, but seeing as how she has no say in the matter…”
He trailed off as Enjolras recoiled, his expression darkening. “I did not think you the kind of gentleman who would think so little of his own sister’s consent.”
To his surprise, Grantaire rolled his eyes. “I think a great deal of her consent,” he said impatiently. “But she gets no say because she has been dead for almost twenty years.”
“Oh.”
Enjolras barely breathed the syllable, the word more an instinctive response less to what Grantaire had said and more to the pain he could see painted across Grantaire’s expression, even as his brusque tone tried to hide it.
Grantaire just jerked his head in what may have been a nod, a muscle working in his jaw, and Enjolras hesitated before saying, tentatively, “I am sorry. I did not know.”
“No one does,” Grantaire said quietly. “I…” He trailed off before shaking his head. “She and I were quite close when we were children, and after she died, it was simply easier to not speak of her.” He did not wait for any additional sounds of sympathy from Enjolras, instead straightening his shoulders as his tone turned businesslike. “But that works in our favor, as it means that no one in London knows that she is dead. It will not be difficult to tell a few key people about her, that I indulge my sister for nothing and that she has fallen in love with someone back in the country, the vicar’s son or something. And why should I subject her to the marriage market when her hand is already spoken for?”
He delivered this scenario as if it was one he had thought about before, and Enjolras shook his head slowly. But Grantaire did not let him interrupt. “Then you can come visit me,” he continued. “Just a friendly visit out to the country for a few days, mid-season. But we can stage a scandalous encounter between you and my ‘sister’ and leak the details to Lady Whistledown. A quick marriage without any of your family in attendance will be the best way to settle the scandal, and you can be ‘married’ with none the wiser.”
“Save for you,” Enjolras said faintly.
Grantaire considered it and nodded. “Myself, and likely my butler and housekeeper. I cannot imagine pulling this off without their assistance.” He looked at Enjolras expectantly. “So what do you think?”
Enjolras shook his head again. “It seems almost insane enough to work,” he said slowly, because he could not think of anything else to say. “But it’s also a ruse I cannot imagine keeping up for long, and while I might pray every day that my mother drops dead, I doubt this ruse would outlive her.”
“Ah, but you are missing the beauty of it,” Grantaire said. “As my sister is already dead, it’s easy enough to stage an illness and then her death.” Enjolras made an unconvinced noise and Grantaire added, “And besides, because of the nature of the scandal, it would make it only natural that she would not wish to subject herself to London, giving you plenty of time before she needs to grow sickly for you to carry on without any concern.”
“It certainly seems like you’ve thought this through,” Enjolras said, scrambling for some protest that would make Grantaire stop and listen, that would get him to reconsider this almost certainly asinine plan.
Grantaire smirked slightly. “I have,” he said simply.
Enjolras gave him a look. “Then I know beyond doubt that it will not work.”
Grantaire just shrugged unconcernedly. “It may not,” he said. “But what have you to lose in trying? And what other options do you possibly have?”
None, was the answer, and it was all that Enjolras could tell Grantaire, a little helplessly. “None. And I have nothing left to lose.”
“Good,” Grantaire said. “Then we have a plan.”
