Catching some Hometown Heat for this FB Post

This post on FB has upset my family and people in my hometown. But every word of it is accurate. If nothing else, people will know where I stand. I am no longer willing to be silent and simply keep the peace. If nothing else, people will know where I stand.

“I graduated from a school in In Alabama that was established so that white people did not have to go to school with black people. Thankfully, ACA is more diverse now, but our mascot is still a general who wears gray... and it's strange because in the 90s, the school was moving away from using that color at all in team uniforms, etc. One of our rivals was a school called Dixie Academy that sounds very much like the one in this story.

I'm posting this to remind myself that very real people are traumatized by racism and prejudice every day. And I am also hoping that institutions with racist pasts can discuss and learn from those mistakes.

I attended Abbeville Christian Academy K-12, and rarely heard about why the school was founded. When other folks wondered why the school was 99% white, people answered that some folks just couldn't afford tuition. The story was there, but no one discussed it.

I should say that I got a great education at ACA and loved my teachers and the small classes. The students still share special bonds. But there is this history that makes me conflicted about my years there.

Know history, talk about the stuff that went wrong, and get better.”

White Paranoia and Cowardice Part 1

You may remember the movie, “Higher Learning”. There was the character “Remy”. Remy was the portrayed insecure, lame white male without a sense of identity. Some people may have felt pity for him. I mean there he was in a white public institution and the “brothers” wouldn’t cut him a deal. In fact, most of his white peers rejected him.

Yet, Remy doesn’t react to the fellow white peers who treated him like a weirdo. Instead, he lashes out at the blacks. This in fact could be white privilege. It also, could be in my opinion cowardice.

A lot of whites know that institutionally them or let’s say the 1% has more power. Instead of attacking who is really controlling their livelihood they use Blacks or “people of color” as a scape goat. It’s quite interesting because it does not leave them more empowered. It gives them a quick dose of euphoria and still poor.

Now, back to Remy. He happened to not have any sense of identity or pride as a young adult. Thus he fell in line with an overt white supremacist group. They lead him to believe that the blacks were taking out all they have and leaving them a minority. Remy looks around at all the people of color in the room and realize how intelligent they are. He bugs out in this scene. In the end Remy kills a black woman on a massive spree of? Paranoia.

The black man who found his purpose with his former girlfriend has a wakeup call to the divisiveness on campus...and guess what?? The white public university survives in its same fashion institutionally.

 I speak on this because it is truly baffling how one could believe that a peaceful people who have coexisted among each other and nurtured the earth would kill them for merely existing.TO BE CONTINUED...

On the East side of South Cicero Avenue lies vacant buildings and lots where there is no motivation for change. Yet the West side of Cicero Avenue (which would be to my left or behind me) is filled with food establishments and hotels for people who are from out-of-town (even though they are in suburban Bedford Park).
