Did you know Whistle Down the Wind is a Christmas musical? Well, kind of, anyway, in the same way RENT is a Christmas musical. That's why we have two musical Christmas songs today from the first (but not last) Andrew Lloyd Webber soundtrack to disappoint me. (It was a 2-CD set! Those were expensive, especially as that was during the days of illegal pricefixing by the RIAA.)
First, even if you don't know WDtW you might know "When Children Rule the World" from the 1998 Winter Olympics:

For a more generically Christmas version, look for Donny Osmond's version off the "Songs From Whistle Down the Wind" album (which in my opinion is the far superior way to enjoy the musical).
Then, we have "Annie Christmas," which the Man (who may or may not be Jesus; the kids think yes and the adults think definitely not) tells as a 'Christmas story' to the demanding children. It is... not Christmas-y at all. XD

2007, conference finals phoenix vs san antonio
#politely i'm obsessed#also so the first gif is from essentially the game clinching play#there's a minute and a half left pho are ahead 89 to 85 [they've won the first game in the series if they win this they are through#to the championship. the game has been up and down with sas going on runs and one girl hitting 4 threes in the first#cappie pondexter winds down the shot clock penny sets a screen to let her through#all the sas run to cappie which leaves penny open for 3#she makes it she's fouled and 1#that first gif is right after she makes the shot and the whistle blows#then she makes the free throw phoenix mercury are up by 8 and sas has to foul for the last minute of play#i am also obsessed with their big 3 being 3 13 and 23#also that this is cappie's second year in the league and she is the reason they won this game#and she wins finals mvp#this footage well the first one is from the measly 1 minute and 48 second penny taylor highlight from the wnba#and the second one which is from the same game but not in the bootleg video on youtube is in an edit from inside the bun#which has in the description free diana so i can only assume it's from the modafinil situation but i cannot find that footage anywhere#it's actually unfortunate bc the merc used to like before youtube was big post video exclusives to their website#and not everything has been preserved#i have to go on the internet archive because i think there might be more there#it's where i see all the old late night clips that aren't on youtube#so and ik im yapping here that's why it's in the tags the way i figured out where the last one was from#was i cross checked getty images for the 2007 and 2009 playoffs#and there's an image of cappie you can see her in like the first frame talking to then gm annie meyers drysdale who now calls the games#diana taurasi#penny taylor

So today was my first day teaching an after school elective theater class (10+ 2nd 3rd 4th grade girls) and holy shit y'all I have even more respect for teachers now than ever before because that was BRUTAL lmao it was like they could smell my fear and knew they could trample all over me. Maybe my viewpoint is skewed, seeing as I was a really meek, easygoing kid at that age, but I can't fathom just...blatantly ignoring the teacher when they tell you not to do something. I get theater is a bit more loosey goosey but damn I can't imagine treating any of my past theater teachers (or any adult for that matter) with such disregard. Hoping that they were just crazy because it was their first day back at school after summer break and they'll mellow out a tiny bit by next week.
There were two super sweet and responsible 4th graders that I'm probably going to have to lean on to get through to some of their classmates. Like appoint them "team leaders" or whatever.
Either way, no more Ms. Pushover next Wednesday--Miss Helen is gonna lay down the fucking LAW lol I'm going to print out a set of class rules and expectations and have the kids repeat them back to me, and I may invest in a fucking whistle to cut through how loud they can get. If any of y'all have a background in teaching or otherwise dealing with large groups of children, feel free to drop any tips or suggestions you might have to get a handle on a rowdy crowd of munchkins and gremlins without yelling or being overly strict.
#I lose almost all patience as soon as I can tell a child is fucking with me lol#like if they're genuinely confused or anxious#I'm usually very patient#but man there were a couple kids who are the physical embodiment of the worst traits of adhd#speaking as someone who has it#but not the physical part#I've never been physically hyper or restless#it's just my brain going at 100 miles an hour all the time#but cant relate to the whole bouncing off the walls thing#also that school has an insane amount of floors and the theater is in the basement level 5 floors down from the entrance#and since the elevator was in use I had to lead those kids up the most insane amount of stairs I've ever encountered#truly humbled me because I was not prepared to drag my entire 200+ lb fat ass up five stories#first time my legs have ever felt so close to just giving out entirely#and now I have exercise induced asthma which will go away in a couple hours but OOF#I literally whistle like wind through a car window when I breath rn]#euthanize me#put me down like old yeller#personal

Once or twice a year I am hit by a massive wave of homesickness for America that makes me literally nauseous and almost feverish. Anyway I am metaphorically turning my heart inside out as I think about junky old Lincoln, Nebraska and a mice-infested farmhouse and living off of food stamps.
#mousehours#sort of#i was five years old and we had a pet rabbit named Floppy#we thought it was a girl rabbit but it was actually a male 🤷🏻♀️#also we had a garden but nothing really grew except our onions#and we had a scare-rabbit instead of a scarecrow because the rabbits were eating all of our vegetables#and I had a secret hideout behind a tree and some bushes where I kept my bob the builder toys#and once my brother and I locked ourselves in the attic and had to be rescued by our dad taking the door off the hinges#there were cracks in the bedroom windows that the wind whistled through#my sister and I got to paint our room half pink and half purple#my brother was seven and just starting first grade and he cut himself with scissors#and fell down the stairs to the basement one day#our neighbours were farmers and they let us put up a rope swing in their hay barn#I was so tiny the grass reached my chin and whenever we went running through the hay fields I was assaulted by grasshoppers#*ping* on my forehead#the church smelled like potatoes all the time and the Sunday school teacher was named Miss Becky and I loved her#she gave me a toy horse for my sixth birthday#…#personal

I started this fall expecting beautiful fall landscapes in the mountains and over the garden wall vibes
Turns out that it's kinda difficult when you're constantly getting wind gusting over 100 km/hr for days on end. I'm fighting to stay upright on my romantic and melancholic autumn strolls
#i live in one of the windiest places in north america#if that wasnt obvious#there's a reason my tiny town basically becomes a ghost town in fall and winter#the wind's not just whistling#its thundering through the streets and attempting to break down my window#this is why the majority of people board up their windows in the fall and winter here
