Hmm. So uh. Guys. Heaven Official's Blessing fans. I need you to understand that this match up is like. Sadistic Genocidal Hydrogen Bomb (Mo Ran) vs. Slightly Mean Coughing Baby (Jun Wu). There is no comparison. Oh my god.
WN Criminal Upper Bracket
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mo Ran from The Husky and His White Cat Shizun (2ha)
[No Propaganda Submitted]
Crimes: where do I even start. World domination? SA? Murder?
Wiki Link
Jun Wu from Heaven Official’s Blessing (TGCF)
Submission: This is MAJOR SPOILERS for Heaven Official's Blessing- but as for his crimes, just like. All his actions as Bai Wuxiang were so iconic. Jun Wu was so single mindedly focused, he manipulated so many people and brought so much death, destruction, and despair to ruin Xie Lian's life and to turn him into a Calamity like himself. It's the dedication to the bit for me, he wiped everything from his disastrous past and became emperor of heaven. Jun Wu had all of the heavenly court fooled and under his thumb for centuries and played the part of the caring mentor/father figure to Xie Lian all while gladly placing the cursed shackles on him.
Wiki Link
[Please be kind and respectful in the notes. Anti-Propaganda is NOT allowed.]
#yes i have read both of them all the way through#everything jun wu does to xie lian? mo ran does that AND worse to chu wanning#everything jun wu does to the heavenly court and xianle? mo ran does to the entire cultivation world#i know these polls are always biased towards heaven official's blessing but my godddd you guys are like. the tamest story#mdzs was criminals do worse things than jun wu imo#it is a crime that nobody has submitted mo ran propaganda here btw. and that his list of crimes is so short.#if you need it though i would supply this:#taxian-jun (aka emperor mo ran) commits (at minimum) like 20 war crimes#(spoilers) he full on destroys the country-sized rufeng sect. the only person be spares is his war bride. that's tens of thousands of lives#he similarly destroys sisheng sect (his and chu wanning's home) and kills his immediate family#he then crucifies chu wanning and makes him slowly bleed out from a small wound on his neck for hours#when he decides he can't let him die he instead imprisons and sexually assaults him#he spends the next several years hunting down his cousin xue meng for resisting him#while still torturing chu wanning#oh and he's also busy being a necromancer. you know. killing people en masse and turning them into puppet soldiers#in these intervening years he regularly goes out and slaughters whole towns and villages he suspects are against him#and then creates more flesh puppets! yaaay!#he kills his war bride by throwing her in boiling oil and jokes about it on her tomb stone#and while not a war crime i think his era names should get a mention here#at least jun wu didn't name his reign as heavenly emperor Big Dick Time#anyway thus concludes my propaganda.#2ha#tgcf

ooh i saw your tags in the post about ppl hating female characters for the same things they love about male characters, and i thought about sqt vs jgy, so i wonder what you think about both of them! (if you feel like answering! it's not like a 1:1 comparison)
*vibrating* Yea I like those characters a normal amount why do you ask!! (Also I had a super busy week at work and I kept thinking about this ask and monologuing about it in my head, so thank you for the enrichment in my enclosure)
(very messy thoughts incoming!)
Ngl, I never considered how they are similar until this ask, and there are a lot of ways that they are! A background that includes abuse, being seen as less-than for the circumstances of their birth (SQT as a Butterfly Boned Beauty Feast, JGY as an illegitimate son of a sex worker), both gravitate towards powerful men to protect themselves, both are navigating the confines of society trying to move upwards, again, in order to protect themselves. Also both use torture (or at least the 0.5 timeline SQT does)! So that's a fun little similarity.
Now, a big difference is there is the element of revenge in JGY's actions on top of the base need to survive (and a desire to thrive in a world that looks down on you), and I think considering his intelligence he would have gotten away with his plans if not for the completely buckwild re-introduction of WWX back into the plot after his death. I personally think SQT is just focused on survival, and even when she is cruel to Chu Wanning in the 0.5 timeline, I believe she does so because considering TXJ's own treatment of CWN she thinks that is want he wants, and doing so will improve her standing with him (which, sidebar, I am always floored by people who hate on SQT for hurting CWN while they woobify TXJ). Her accusation of Ye Wangxi is only done in an attempt to survive, and I think should be viewed in the lens of the danger that Mo Ran's planted evidence places her in - she's a known Beauty Feast and you know in the world of Erha the second she is out from the protection of Nangong Si her life is likely literally over.
SQT is also just not as smart as JGY, which isn't a slight towards her, JGY is obviously brilliant on many fronts. But I think there is an element of SQT batting above her level, and that leads to her downfall in both timelines. Another glaring similarity is the fandom reaction to them and their actions being a smidge... shall I kick the hornets nest and say hypocritical especially when compared to the actions of the main character? Or other characters in the story who get woobified? (I will also throw Ye Bingchang from Till the End of the Moon into this category). At the end of the day, they are people who are just trying to survive in a deeply messed up world in the only way they know how. Now! Are they both innocent of any wrong-doing because of this? Of course not! That's what makes them interesting and why I gravitate towards these types of characters. The TL;DR: of this is essentially, "people doing fucked up stuff to survive in a world where you have to do fucked up things to survive? It's more likely than you think!"
I will say the fandom's feelings towards JGY has chilled a bit lately, but people were nasty towards him back in the day. Unfortunately, people still are towards SQT and I don't see that changing. I actually ended up including her in my 0.5 fic because I was tired of seeing fics that she either didn't appear at all OR was killed off in a way that was obviously done with malice on behalf of the author. Now she uh doesn't meet a happy end in either of my fics where she features but she's actually a character I really enjoyed writing, and I hope I did it with some sense of sympathy.
There was more I wanted to say but this is already long so I shall post this before it withers further in my drafts! <3
Also gonna link my own fics in case anyone is curious since I mentioned them. SQT appears as a character in this one here - my take on "hanahaki but worse" which has a sad ending - and her death is an inciting incident in this one, an AU where Chu Wanning is the one who got the flower and has become a zealot trying to cleanse the cultivation world (a WIP but I will finish it!).

Now reading: The husky and his white cat shizun
So i finished the first book. It's been what, not even a week? (EDIT: 2 fucking days since the og post i made) How am i supposed to wait till the rest is released if i keep swallowing them at this pace i feel like i still restrained myself but not enough ig
And like what, that last arc was utterly insane. Meatbun just tortures their leads, she's truly more cruel than Chu Wanning himself. It's not even characters in the world thats against them its just the author plainly tormenting them. That last scene … ehem spoilers for the first book here
…where Chu Wanning gets forced into Shi Mei's body? And he's going through all of that for Mo Ran while Mo Ran think its Shi Mei?
Tumblr media
They just are so clueless, both of them. It's so tragic. The author just forces them into those situations rjuiefknhijugv And the fact we get POV's of both of them how they misinterpret each other's words and gestures… And as readers we can only silently scream at the book and observe the tragedy.
Getting back to my bullet points from the original post:
Chu Wanning is cruel AND pathetic but just like i mentioned earlier, not exactly like Mo Ran sees him. I still don't know how can he be both mean and kinda caring but only when nobody watches. I mean i get that its just that the level of his ruthlessness is scary. I still think his mom beat him as a kid for him to turn out this way
Mo Ran is dumb, i can't with him. I can't with how he doesnt realize why he is the way he is towards Chu Wanning, why he is so possessive. EVEN THAT DAMNED BROCADE BOX DIDN'T MAKE THAT LIGHTBULB IN HIS HEAD LIGHT UP. Great character, i love him but he is so utterly dumb...
Okay I can maaaaybe see why they will end up together, like everything seems like they are fated to be together. And Chu Wanning is pinning over him for whatever reason. But then i still believe in Mo Ran / Shi Mei supremacy. I love him being all lovey-dovey towards Shi Mei its just so adorable when he's talking about him or about his wontons. It still makes me giggle and kick my feet.
I have no idea what happened when Shi Mei died, it just seems unlikely Chu Wanning would be cruel like that. Probably Mo Ran was too dense to understand what was going on. There surely is more to Shi Mei, i'm just scared to think he's gonna turn out to be two faced.
Shi Mei is still my precious please don't be evil please don't be evil
i am convinced there will be a lot of pain and misery
WHAT THE FUCK WENT DOWN AT THAT LAKE
will i have enough strong will to wait some time before i get the 2nd vol
probably not
im gonna keep myself occupied with drawing Shi Mei <3333333333

The Husky and His White Cat Shizun Vol. 4
Tumblr media
Haha, I almost forgot to post about The Husky and His White Cat Shizun Vol. 4 by Rou Bao Bu Chi Rou. Like last time, talking about this book at all is going to spoil volume three so, I'm going to put my recommendation at the top and then talk about the book itself under the read more break.
I thought this book was probably the slowest paced out of all the books so far, but it was also the sweetest and fluffiest. Don't expect any big bombshells in this one, but it still advances the plot.
So book three ends with Master Huaizui accepting Chu Wanning's souls from Mo Ran and telling Mo Ran it will take him five years to put Chu Wanning's souls back into his body and revive him. Book four starts in an epistolary style, showing a few quick snapshots of what Mo Ran is doing in the five years Chu Wanning is still being revived. He desperately wants to become someone who can support and protect his shizun, so he travels and studies and helps people selflessly. But, he's also still absolutely tortured by the knowledge of who he was and what he did in his past life. It haunts him constantly.
When Chu Wanning wakes up, it doesn't really sink in that it's been five years until he sees Xue Meng and doesn't recognize him. Xue Zhengyong tells Chu Wanning about all the good that Mo Ran has been doing, how he's been making a name for himself in the cultivation world and working hard. But, it's still a shock to see how much Mo Ran has changed when Chu Wanning finally meets him again (in the bath because of course that's where their tearful reunion takes place, fucking butt ass naked). Mo Ran 2.0 has finally arrived, and he's tall and tan and ripped and also the sweetest boy that ever happened!
I'm not going to recount every event of this book because I think it would take forever. But, yeah, this book definitely has a different tone and feel. Mo Ran is both sweet, but tortured. Also! He doesn't realize until THIS FUCKING BOOK that he LOVES Chu Wanning?!?! I was. My guys. My dudes. I started to cuss this book out loud, I had to put it down (loudly) I was so. I don't even know what I was feeling. I was laughing, but I was also mad. Apparently? He thought he just SUPER respected Chu Wanning, but all that fucking they did in his past life was just mucking it up with lust. It isn't until this book that he's like "oh fuck, I'm in love with him". In his defense he does say he feels like an idiot for not realizing it before but like. God dammit. I'm not even mad. It feels like it's my fault, honestly. I signed up for this.
This book is primarily both Chu Wanning and Mo Ran pining for each other, but trying to keep it professional. With a lot of silly situations thrown in to make their lives hard. They're both struggling with lusting after each other while also respecting the hell out of each other. Chu Wanning is freaking out because he's never felt lust for anyone in his life (supposedly because he's practiced asceticism his whole life, but I'm just going to plunk the demisexual label on his forehead just to make myself happy) and Mo Ran because he's afraid that if he gives in to his baser instincts he'll turn back into Taxian-jun.
The book ends with them all going to Rufeng Sect to attend the wedding of Nangong Si and Song Quitong. Mo Ran meets Ye Wangxi the day they get there, and Ye Wangxi is so fucking sad, Mo Ran decides then and there he's going to fucking ruin this wedding. God, I love this idiot boy so damn much.
ANYWAY! How am I going to survive until next month when the next book comes out? I'm really asking. I've already preordered it! Til next time, I guess.

Additional propaganda from the notes for Mo Ran:
Mo Ran absolutely deserves this more, he is the Truer shizunfucker. Fucked his shizun in multiple lifetimes!!!!
Mo Ran is like, objectively better at fucking his shizun, on account of being good at sex and having multiple lifetimes in which to practice on CWN.
Mo Ran did not tell wanning to watch him fuck himto death for binghe to beat him I’m sorry.
There is a reason why modern AU bingqiu fics usually make shen yuan like binghe’s TA at most, while modern AU ranwan fics always commit to making chu wanning mo ran’s professor or something. Vote Mo Ran!!!!
#obviously it's Mo Ran#because there's two of him and they're BOTH shizunfuckers#he is the supreme the ultimate the nonpareil
#listen im only on volume 2 of erha but mo ran should win#mo ran takes the fuck in shizunfucker to whole new levels
#but i had to go for mo ran#on account of his particular levels of horniness over his shizun at all times
#mo ran however. even at the height of his hatred for his shizun was still balls to the wall insanely horny about him#even when he believed himself in love with someone else he was STILL HORNY FOR CWN ALL THE FUCKING TIME#mo “ill fuck you to death” ran#i also believe the phrasing specifically is more on point for mo ran
#Meanwhile Mo Ran fucks his shizun in two timelines and even with his two personalities in the same timeline! And he fucks him so good-#His Taxian-Jun persona would never stop fucking Chu Wanning. Source: 2ha novel. It's in there.#There are many many instances of Mo Ran describing his shizun while referencing something about when they fucked#i'm remembering that passage about the size of his shizun mouth and how he created perfect sized candies based on when he sucked him#and looking at the motifs and themes of the narrative of 2ha fucking is a great deal for the protagonists#it is by connecting through sex that they discover they can also be loved
#I’ve read all of svsss and only 2.5 volumes of 2ha so far and hands down mo ran is the ultimate shizun fucker
I'd even argue that Mo Ran wanted to fuck Chu Wanning even more BECAUSE he was his shizun, whereas Binghe fucking his shizun was more a happy accident
#erha#like mo ran got a whole power dynamic kink going on#the winner is clear
#mo ran did not married his shizun 3 times and went litterally to hell to save him
#i think ill go with moran because hes just#such a shizunfucker through and through#he saw cwn#and his mind was set#'hole is goal'#or smth idk#also erha has shizun in teh title#so checkmate-#jks aside i think also because cwn is more a shizun to mr than sqq was#or rather cwn taught mr very basic skills etc. while i remember sqq bullshitting his way through more often than not
#Having said that Mo Ran is 100% the bigger shizun-fucker#Yeah LBH loves SY!SQQ and is highly and unhealthily obsessed with him but have you SEEN Mo Ran?#Mo Ran loved CWN in 2 lives despite being convinced it was mutual hatred in the first life#he captured him and ''hate''-fucked him for YEARS in his first life#on his wedding night he ditched his wife in the bedroom and went to fuck CWN instead#LBH kept his shizun's corpse preserved for years? So did Mo Ran! (though I concede that I don't recall him cuddling it to sleep)#Anyway! Mo Ran literally chose CWN to be his shizun because he thought he was pretty#When CWN was harsh on him and condemned him and shit (and MR took it as abuse) he still loved him (despite thinking it was mutual hate)#When SJ!SQQ abused and condemned LBH he despised the man and tortured and killed him#In MR's 2nd life when he understands CWN more and doesn't think what he feels is hatred he's kinda obvious another character casts a spell#on him that makes him pursue his true love or some shit (thinking he'll go after his love from his previous life) he just continues being#obsessed with CWN!#He completely neglects his ''love'' from his previous life including their friendship because he's so down bad for CWN#In the 5 years CWN is being brought back from the dead MR gets a blank book made with enough pages to write him a letter every single day#(which he does!) and then he has to get more paper because he ran out of space!#He also starts dressing like CWN to the point that when they're reunited in a hot spring bath CWN mistakes MR's robes for his own#When MR can't make it back in time for the celebration CWN waking from the dead he uses an emergency firework to paint a greeting across th#sky from hundreds of miles away#He's down bad#and for 2 whole lifetimes!
#mo ran didn't say “watch me fuck you to death!” to his shizun in chapter 6 for ya'll to fail him like this
#it's moran!#all diff versions of him wanted to fuck his shizun (reasons vary)#i love binghe but my dude would've ended with a harem if shen yuan didn't transmigrate#moran always wanted to fuck his shizun lol even when he was the evil emperor
#this was v difficult but I decided to give it to Mo Ran#cuz he fucks his shizun in every universe <3
#HOW is MO RAN losing this one ????#he fucking ATTICWIFED his shizun in the timeline where he “HATES” him#HOW IS HE LOSING ????#and he BASICALLY did it again at the end of the novel - this time just consensually#Binghe WISHES he could live with his shizun on a little mountain without anyone for miles around all year round#except for certain dates to see friends and families and THAT'S IT#WITHOUT sqq binghe has a harem#WITHOUT cwn Mo Ran kills himself#COME ! ON !!
#The Husky and his White Cat Shizun#Mo Ran#VOTE FOR MY BOY#He wanted to fuck his Shizun in both lifetimes!
#When 0.5 1.0 and 2.0 MR all were obsessed with CWN there’s no competition
#how is mo 'i will fuck my shizun in every timeline' ran losing this?#mo 'i literally gave up on life when shizun died' ran#mo 'i spent my wedding night fucking the shizun i thought i hated while my new wife was left abandoned' ran
Canonicals Tournament FINAL
Tumblr media
The final is between Luo Binghe from The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System (shizun: Shen Qingqiu) and Mo Ran from The Dumb Husky and His White Cat Shizun (shizun: Chu Wanning)
Propaganda under the cut! (Warning: Propaganda may include spoilers about the characters and their media)
Luo Binghe:
Luo Binghe's shizun Shen Qingqiu caused his sexual awakening and they lived together with Luo Binghe acting similar to a housewife.
Even after being betayed, stabbed, and pushed into the Endless Abyss, Luo Binghe still loved Shen Qingqiu and wanted answers instead of revenge. Instead he had to repeatedly suffer his shizun dying in his arms and assumed abandonment. Which makes him absolutely lose it, made even worse by his evil sword Xin Mo which worsens all of his negative emotions and destroys its hosts, along with additional trauma over the course of the story.
He reused the sword that his shizun sacrificed himself to free him from, cuddles the corpse every night for five years to preserve it, he creates dreams of their happy years together but never made a Shen Qingqiu that would speak to him, he kidnapped and destroyed cultivators' cores so he could feed xin mo and preserve sqq's corpse, he rebuilds their house in his demonic palace, he spent years fixing sqq's destroyed cultivation and trying to revive him, he forces Shen Qingqiu live in that new house, he rescues and repeatedly puts himself in harms way to protect sqq, he tries to destroy the world so Shen Qingqiu can only love him (due to being driven mad by Xin Mo and his believed abandonment by sqq). He tries to kill himself after Shen Qingqiu dies for him again. He would do absolutely ANYTHING for Shen Qingqiu! He's increadibly jealous of everyone Shen Qingqiu gives attention to, including stairsweeps he smiles at. Luo Binghe has sooo much wrong with him and it makes him so lovable. He's so incredibly traumatized, driven by love and desperation for a majority of the story. He loves Shen Qingqiu so much and can't bear to live without him.
After everything? He lets Shen Qingqiu go, wanting him to be happy even if it means sqq won't stay with him. But sqq wanted to stay together! He gets his man! There is in world porn written about them, they have weird kinky sex inspired by the porn, they get married! Luo Binghe cries regularly for sqq, so sqq can dote on him despite his thin face. Luo Binghe is shameless and adores sqq. Lbh got so nervous that he fell flat on his face when proposing! Lbh loves sqq so much and wants him to be happy more than anything else!
More on disciple era:
Luo Binghe's sexual awakening was his shizun tied up and shirtless. He fell in love after Shen Qingqiu got poisoned protecting him. He moved into his shizun's house and handled all of the cooking and cleaning, would regularly fake fall into Shen Qingqiu during training to get hugs. He got a boner from being forcibly cuddled to heal his injuries. And ran to jump into a lake after being spanked for struggling too much during the forced cuddling. Sqq still never noticed lbh's affections.
--
It took him like 3(three) interactions with nice shizun (transmigrator who replaced his old one) to fall irrevocably in love. baby boy was ready he had mommy issues daddy issues and honestly by that time shizun issues too... luckily his new shizun can fill all those roles and more!
#lbh is THE shizunfucker
#binghe calling him shizun is a kink at some point its definitely him
#vote binghe!!#he wanted to fuck shizun so much that shizun died twice for him
#... i mean. luo binghe is a satire of the shizun fuckers character trope. hes an exageration of it so hes Very It
#luo binghe#again its basically a kink for him as well that puts it on another level
#cmon man#binghe is THE shizun fucker#activily has to be told to not call his husband shizun during sex
#binghe is THE shizunfucker supreme. no competition.
Mo Ran:
*gestures helplessly at the whole damn book*
#Mo 'I died and went into the past after the teacher I hated died in my arms and I dream of him every night' Ran???#of course its him
#vote for Mo ran I’m sorry but he is the emperor shizunfucker of all the shizunfuckers#he is the man the myth the legend#he’s the one you think of immediately when someone says shizunfucker
Extra Propaganda here. There are 3 versions of Mo Ran throughout Erha and every single one of them either wants to or did fuck their Shizun. Even in the darkest timeline when he thought he hated CWN more than anyone he fucked him. This boy is obsessed.
#mo ran 100%#he truly has the shizunfucker mentality
#mo ran#HAS TO WIN#he wants to fuck his Shizun so bad
#but it's gotta be mo ran#the all-time shizunfucker in this world that world and beyond

Whatever you do , DO NOT imagine kim coming home to the minor family compound with blood stained clothes and eyes darkened by rage . DO NOT imagine him walking with deliberate steps , slowly , while dripping a few stray drops of blood on the way to his room. DO NOT imagine him walking into the shower bypassing a sleeping Chay , to wash off the blood , sweat and tears after torturing, maiming and murdering people who were less than human.
But what does that make him? Was he as small a monster as them , or the devil himself who feasts on lesser evils? Would a few of his other sins be forgiven for committing these greater sins for the greater good? Were these hands even worthy of touching his angel?
Till the water ran clear , till the few sparse tears dried up , and even later still , thoughts running through his head.
Till a warm hand pressed itself onto Kim's strong one braced against the shower's glass wall.
The sleepy whisper of "P'Kim?" was the only thing he could bear , so he closed the distance and his angel's mouth as fast as he could, both of them drowning , together.
*********************
“No matter which lifetime, Chu Wanning’s scent always seemed to calm him down; in the past life, whenever he returned from a bloodbath, he always had to bury his face into the crook of Shizun’s neck just to breathe again.”
********************
If it hurt , Chay didn't complain. He never did . Only the next day , when Kim wakes up to the sounds of Porchay foraging through Kim's mini cooler , did he survey the extend of damage his desire had left on Porchay. True , he had heard the screams, but he always seemed to be begging for more. To hold him tighter , to go faster , to claim more and more , he had asked.
The blooming purple all over his thighs , back and the heaven on earth that was his waist , all in evidence of kim and his barbarism.
The sun then turned it's face and smiled at Kim. All happy , mouth stuffed with his favourite icecream sandwiches.
Kim stared. His lips were bloody where Kim's desire had left it's trail. A bite mark adorned the left part of his Chin , just below the mole. And he had handprints at his baby's neck where Kim had held him tight enough to bruise.
The angel turned his entire body to face the devil slowly coming to terms with his sins, and smiled again.
More bruises blooming on his chest and near his belly button. On his waist and all over the sparse trail of curly hair that was slowly edging above his waistline.
Kim slowly sat up , and sauntered over with glassy eyes. He took a swig of the water from the cooler , and ate the offered bite of the icecream from Chay. Waiting only till Chay's hands were licked clean off by him and his own were freed off the empty bottle , he picked chay up and walked over to their bed again , throwing him on his shoulder.
His angel looked like sin, and he was ready to commit more.

In response to your fav ship dynamic, flawd holy being/demonic being devoted to them, what are the ones other than Good Omens? Please and thank you? I love ineffable husbands and need more of that dynamic in my life. 💖
Hey! I checked your profile and didn't find anything about whether you're a minor or an adult (which is super valid! heck yeah practice online safety), so I'm saying this with the disclaimer that these are all adult novels with adult themes including but not limited to sexuality and gore/death/etc. If you're a minor, as a blanket statement, I don't recommend reading them until you're older, though of course reading them would be your choice still and you're the one who knows your tolerance for adult themes.
With that out of the way: Hualian, Bingqiu, Ranwan, and maybe Wangxian fit that dynamic! Those are all canon gay pairings (as in, the books focus on the romance between two men who kiss on the mouth multiple times on the page, and Hualian is the only pairing that doesn't have explicit sex scenes, though it is clear that they do canonically have kinky sex) in novels by the Chinese authors Mo Xiang Tong Xiu and Meatbun.
Here, I'll copy-and-paste my summaries for each novel from this post:
Tian Guan Ci Fu, or Heaven Official’s Blessing (Hualian): a disgraced god meets a disguised ghost king who treats him with a surprising amount of respect, and starts to work on healing from eight centuries of trauma. My favorite book ever. Sweeping fantasy romance with fascinating background characters and themes of criticism of mob mentality. Main content warnings: abuse, gore, suicide. No explicit sex scenes; definitely still an adult novel.
(Note on the dynamic: this is the one I was mainly thinking of, making that drawing. It's SO good.)
Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System (Bingqiu): a terminally online webnovel-obsessed Redditor-equivalent isekai’s into his favorite/most hated harem novel, and finds out, to his surprise, that the protagonist is gay??? Comedy that would be angst from any other character’s perspective. Main content warnings: dub/noncon, painful sex, internalized homophobia. There are a few explicit sex scenes between the main couple, including a dub/noncon/fuck-or-die scene.
(Note on the dynamic: Shen Qingqiu, the not-Redditor, is the flawed holy being, kind of. He's a cultivator - something like a wizard, maybe, in Western terms? though of course it's its own thing. Luo Binghe, the protagonist of the harem novel, is the demonic being devoted to him.)
Mo Dao Zu Shi, or Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation (Wangxian): a disgraced dead man who’s definitely straight, trust him, is given new life and proceeds to unravel a mystery with the help of an old friend. Casefic vibes with themes of criticism of mob mentality. Main content warnings: uhh it’s been a while but definitely at least death and torture. There are a few explicit sex scenes between the main couple, including dubcon/drunk sex and CNC.
(Note on the dynamic: Lan Wangji is the flawed holy being. Wei Wuxian is the not-dead-anymore man "Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation" refers to, though watch out for the differences between how people perceive him and how he actually is.)
Erha/2ha, or Dumb Husky and His White Cat Shizun (Ranwan): an emperor who’s committed every crime, especially rape and murder, kills himself and wakes up as his teenage self, given a second chance with his teacher, the man he wronged most. Casefic vibes with themes of criticism of punitive justice, very dead dove. Biggest, most important content warning: rape. There are multiple explicit rape scenes, and they are integral to the story. I read this book for the rape scenes, and I was not disappointed. Do not read this if fictional rape is a trigger for you. Very good book.
(Note on the dynamic: Chu Wanning is the flawed holy being - another cultivator. Heads up that Mo Ran, the emperor, is very unlikable at first, but there is a happy ending.)
To anyone following me - please feel free to add on with other examples of this dynamic! I'd be interested as well. :D

The Husky and His White Cat Shizun - Chapter 28
Original Title:  二哈和他的白猫师尊
Genres: Drama, Romance, Tragedy, Xianxia, Yaoi
This translation is based on multiple MTLs and my own limited knowledge of Chinese characters. If I have made any egregious mistakes, please let me know.
Chapter Index
Chapter 28 - This Venerable One is A Little Confused
Elder Yuheng broke the rules and was punished. He might as well have sprouted wings. There was no need to wait until the next morning; Almost all the disciples of the sect had heard about it that same night.
Two hundred strikes; if he were replaced by any other ordinary person, they would probably be beaten to death. Even a cultivator isn't indestructible.
Xue Meng jumped up after learning about it: "What?! Master went to the Court of Discipline?"
"Young Master, go and talk to the Lord. He's already injured. How could he stand two hundred strikes?"
Xue Meng was going crazy: "My father? I can't. My father is still at the Snow Palace and hasn't returned yet. A carrier pigeon wouldn't even get there for another day. Why didn't you guys stop Shizun?"
Mo Ran and Shi Mei glanced at each other.
Stop Chu Wanning?
Who in this world could stop him?
"That's out of the question. I'm going to find him right now." Xue Meng roared and ran towards the Court of Discipline. Before he entered the courtyard, he saw a group of Elder Jielu's disciples blocking the entrance of the main hall, whispering about something.
"What are you standing there for? Move! Get out of my way!"
"Young Master!"
"Ah, the young master is here."
"Make way, the young master is here."
The disciples quickly separated and gave way to Xue Meng. The gate of the Qingtian Temple was open, and Chu Wanning was kneeling silently, his posture straight, his eyes closed. Elder Jielu, with an iron rod in hand, was reciting the laws of Life-Death Peak. Every time he finished reciting one, the iron rod slammed against Chu Wanning's back.
"The ninety-first law of this sect: do not indiscriminately hurt the innocent, and do not use cultivation against a mortal. Under this rod, do you have any objections?"
"None."
"The ninety-second law of this sect; do not act arbitrarily, do not act selfishly. Under this rod, do you have any objections?"
"None."
Elder Jielu didn't dare hold back and had to execute the punishment as he would with any other disciple. After more than ninety sticks came down, Chu Wanning's white robes were stained with blood.
Xue Meng respected Chu Wanning the most. When he saw this, his eyes went bloodshot, and he shouted: "Shizun!"
Chu Wanning ignored him. His eyes were still closed and he frowned slightly.
Elder Jielu glanced at the door and muttered: "Elder Yuheng, the young master is here."
"I'm not deaf, I heard him." Blood dripped out of the corners of Chu Wanning's mouth, but he didn't raise his eyes. "He's a noisy child, don't worry about it."
Elder Jielu sighed. ". . .Yuheng, why are you doing this?"
"Who is the one that is always punishing my disciples for being disobedient?" Chu Wanning said indifferently. "If I'm not punished today according to the law, how will I be able to face my disciples in the future?"
". . ."
"Carry on."
"Hah. . ." Elder Jielu looked at his pale, slender neck protruding from the edge of the wide collar that hung gently like thin smoke and asked: "Then can I at least make them lighter?"
". . . This is nothing more than deception." Chu Wanning said. "Don't worry. It's only two hundred strikes, I can bear it."
"Elder Yuheng. . ."
"Jielu, if you don't have anything more to say, carry on."
The iron rod finally fell again.
Xue Meng's voice was frantic: "Elder Jielu! Are you not going to fucking stop? Do you know the situation you've put me in? That's my shizun you're beating!!! My shizun!!!"
Elder Jielu had no choice but to bite his tongue and pretend he didn't hear him.
Xue Meng was about to explode: "Can't you hear me, old man? I'm ordering you to stop! You - If you dare hit him again, I'll, I'll, I'll—"
He thought for a while and couldn’t come up with anything to say. After all, he was only a fifteen-year-old boy. Regardless of the fact that he was "the proud boy of heaven," his strength and qualifications are far less than those of the elders. He could only blush and throw out an outrageous claim --
"I'll tell my father!!!"
Elder Jielu: ". . ."
Chu Wanning let out an almost inaudible sigh.
Ninety-seven strikes. Ninety-eight strikes. Ninety-nine strikes. One hundred sticks. . .
His clothes were torn and blood was glaringly seeping out.
Xue Meng couldn't hold back anymore. His eyes were red with anxiety, and he was about to recklessly rush in, but Chu Wanning suddenly opened his eyes. He waved his hand and a barrier instantly lowered, blocking the entrance. Xue Meng bounced back a few steps, almost falling to the ground.
Chu Wanning coughed up blood. He shifted his glare, narrowing his fierce phoenix eyes.
"Disgraceful! Leave!"
"Shizun!"
Chu Wanning sternly said: "Since when can the Young Master of Life-Death Peak order an Elder to bend the law for his own personal gain? Leave now!"
Xue Meng stared at him. His eyes widened and it looked like little beads of water appeared in them.
Next to him, Mo Ran stroked his chin, and the corner of his mouth was still playfully curled upwards: "Oh, that's not good. Little phoenix is going to cry."
Hearing these words, Xue Meng harshly turned his head and fiercely glared at Mo Ran. His watery eyes were red, but he kept any tears from rolling down.
He had no more objections and no more talk back.
He climbed up from the ground with a single movement. He lowered his head, grit his teeth and wiped the dust off his body. Then he knelt down facing the Qingtian Temple: "Shizun, I know my mistake."
Chu Wanning was still being tortured by an iron rod. His straight posture never wavered, but his face was pale, and his forehead was coated with a fine layer of cold sweat.
Xue Meng stubbornly said: "But I'm not leaving. I'll accompany Shizun."
He said while kneeling.
Mo Ran rolled his eyes towards the sky. Xue Meng, courtesy name Xue Ziming, the proud son of heaven, was only ever humble in front of Chu Wanning. In front of others, he was a phoenix, and in front of their shizun, he became a quail. If he wasn't positive that Xue Meng didn't like men, Mo Ran would start to suspect that this guy was probably in love with Chu Wanning, so much so that he would throw himself in front of death itself for him. If Shizun slapped his left cheek, then this little bitchy quail would humbly slap his right cheek.
Real convincing.
Like an obedient little puppy.
Although he despised him in his heart, he couldn't understand why he was feeling somewhat upset. Mo Ran looked at Xue Meng. The more he looked at him, the more uncomfortable he got and he felt that he could not let him show his loyalty alone.
Chu Wanning already didn't like him. If Xue Meng made such a fuss, does that mean Chu Wanning wouldn't be as harsh with him in the future?
So he simply went over and knelt beside Xue Meng.
"I'll also accompany Shizun."
Of course, Shi Mei also knelt down, and the three disciples all knelt and waited outside. When disciples under the other elders heard the circulating rumours, they all hurried to the Court of Discipline to watch the excitement.
"Oh my god, why is it Elder Yuheng. . ."
"I heard he went into a rage and beat a civilian."
"Ah! He's that cruel?"
"Shhh, keep your voice down. If Elder Yuheng hears you, he won't hesitate to whip you!"
Others: "Why is the young master kneeling?"
"Young Master Mo is also kneeling. . ."
Mo Ran was handsome and he had a way with words. He didn't know how many female cultivators he'd earned goodwill with over the years, but right now, there were several people who couldn't help but feel pity for him and whisper: "I feel so sorry for Young Master Mo. What should I do? Should we intervene?"
"We shouldn't concern ourselves with their shizun - disciple issues. Do it if you dare, I'm not that brave. Do you remember the senior sister who was whipped hundreds of times by Elder Yuheng..."
". . ."
The two hundred strikes were completed.
The barrier was finally removed.
Xue Meng quickly got up from the ground. He ran into Qingtian Temple and approached the scene. Seeing Chu Wanning's appearance, he cried out. He turned his head and grabbed Elder Jielu's collar. "You're dead, old man! Couldn't you have hit him a little lighter!!!"
"Xue Ziming." Chu Wanning closed his eyes, his blood-stained lips moving, and his hoarse voice carried a hidden deterrent.
". . ."
Xue Meng's knuckles creaked. He violently pushed Elder Jielu away, letting him go. This was when Mo Ran came in. He was still smiling, thinking that Elder Jielu must have taken into account Chu Wanning's status and wouldn't deal heavy blows. But looking down at Chu Wanning's injury, the smile on his face suddenly fell.
Didn't Chu Wanning tell Elder Jielu that he had a shoulder injury?!
The two hundred strikes had all more or less slashed across the older wound on his shoulder.
New wounds overlapped old wounds.
Chu Wanning, you. . .
Are you insane?!
His pupils shrank sharply, and a strong resentment surged into his heart.
Mo Ran didn't know what he was resenting, or what he was so annoyed about. He only knew that he felt a blazing fire in his gut, torching through all his organs. He was used to torturing Chu Wanning to death himself, crushing his self-esteem and tarnishing his purity. Mo Ran couldn't stand seeing injuries on Chu Wanning that were made by someone else!
He could move on from his past memories because Mo Ran subconsciously felt that this person was his. This person, whether dead or alive, hated or hated, was all.
He originally didn't care about Chu Wanning being punished because he thought that, since Chu Wanning was an elder, the two hundred strikes would hardly be considered a severe punishment.
At the very least, they would avoid the fresh wound on his shoulder.
But Chu Wanning didn't say anything! He didn't even mention it! What was this lunatic so stubborn? Why did he put up with this? What point did he so stupidly and stubbornly need to prove?!?
His mind was in turmoil. Mo Ran raised his hand to help him, but Xue Meng was already one step ahead of him. He took Chu Wanning in his arms and helped him up.
". . ." Mo Ran's hand hung in the air, and after a while, he slowly lowered it again.
He watched Xue Meng help Chu Wanning walk away, not knowing the feeling that was stirring in his heart.
He wanted to catch up with them, but he wasn't willing to move.
What happened in his past life was all in the past.
Nowadays, Chu Wanning was just his shizun.
Any chaotic, hateful, or intimate entanglement hadn't happened between them yet.
He shouldn't have such thoughts. Whether Chu Wanning was beaten by someone, supported by someone, loved someone, or was even killed by someone, it had nothing to do with him.
Shi Mei came to him: "Come on, let's join the young master and go take a look."
"I'm not going. It's enough having Xue Meng there. I wouldn't help much. Any more people would just create chaos." Mo Ran's face remained unchanged, but his heart was a bit confused.
He really didn't understand what he was feeling right now. What was this feeling called?
Was it hatred?

Hello !
I was wondering whether you could rate and tell us of your top 5 favourite webnovels/cnovels of all time ?! (Sorry if this has already been answered lol😅)
Thank you, stay safe and have a nice day🖤
Awww, thank you and that is such a lovely ask!!!
From n1 to n5, here they are (they happen to be all danmei.)
1. The Husky and His White Cat Shizun (2ha) - my n1 forever and ever.
Taxian Jun, the horrific cultivation emperor of the world who razed cities and destroyed sects, is surrounded on his mountain. The righteous sects are terrified to confront him but tired of living, Taxian Jun consumes poison and dies by suicide at the age of 32. And opens his eyes as 16 year old Mo Ran, Mo Ran long before he became Taxian Jun, Mo Ran who is excited at a chance to save the one person he loved and lost. Oh, and to deal with his loathed shizun, the unapproachable and strict Chu Wanning, his past life’s biggest enemy.
I have no idea if it’s objectively the best on this list but it hits every trope I love, its bleak worldview (the world will change only incrementally but that’s enough, average person will not appreciate the sacrifice but it’s still worthwhile, and love is worth everything) mirrors mine, and the sheer complexity of the plot and cascade of plot twists each of which is insane and yet completely logical, is amazing (this is a rare novel where it’s even more fun to reread than read for the first time because you keep seeing all the hints and trail crumbs laid out that you did not see the first time.)
And the characters!!! I mean, this novel has multiple universes/timelines, a side trip to the Underworld AND the demon realm, a plot more twisted than a store’s worth of pretzels and yet the thing that hits me the most are the characters. Mo Ran is my favorite web novel character of all time and I love Chu Wanning so. All the secondary characters are wonderfully written (and some of them made me bawl) and they are all complex. My opinion of all of them changed many times over; the novel doesn’t make it easy to love some of them but then you do and it’s so worthwhile! That slow change is one of the delights of the novel - I started out disliking the unpleasant, superior Chu Wanning and cruel, callow Mo Ran and then I loved them so so hard and cried for them so so hard and was in awe of their heroism and sacrifice and selflessness and capacity to love.
Oh, and the fact that this novel does something almost impossible - it has its protagonist start out as so clearly irredeemable and then slowly and painfully and thoroughly redeems him (without ever letting the reader forget what it is he needs redemption for.)
Also, for a novel that made me cry so hard I felt ill, this book is just so damn funny with the most sarcastic sense of humor imaginable (the serious angst doesn’t even kick in until 90+ chapters!)
Anyway I should stop or I will write a dissertation. But this is the one web novel that I would put in my top 5 not just web novels but any novels in any shape or form. The plentiful trigger warnings are there for a reason so stay away if they are an issue, but if not, if anyone hasn’t read it yet, what are you doing with your life?!
2. Stains of Filth (Yuwu) - another novel by the author of 2ha. Clearly she just pushes all my buttons every time. This one is much shorter and has a plot that is twisty but less twisty than 2ha. Still, all that means is that intensity and the pain are more concentrated.
Aristocratic Mo Xi and former slave Gu Mang were both legendary generals of the empire and lovers. But Gu Mang betrayed the country and switched to the enemy. Now he is back as a peace offering by that country and Mo Xi has to deal with the fact that his feelings are as strong as ever.
This novel!!! So much pain and intensity!!! So many amazing plot twists and supporting characters. The same bleak world view, the same unjust society, the same protagonists doing right things despite the cost. Mo Xi’s intensity and inability to let go (he’s imprinted on Gu Mang and that’s it) is romantic, bone-shakingly intense, and tragic all at once. And oh Gu Mang! So many times I just wanted to reach into the book physically to protect him. The novel deals with unjust societies, memory versus personality, what it’s like to be good in a bad universe etc. And it both made me sob and giggle, repeatedly, and sold me on literally death-defying (but not honor-defying!) love.
Oh, and special shout out to the fact that like 2ha, you may start out hating some characters and end up a rabid fangirl (cough Murong Lian!)
3. Qiang Jin Jiu - a dense political tome that takes a while to get going but then it’s a runaway train.
In a fictional dynasty, Shen Zechuan, the only remaining son of a disgraced aristocratic family and Xiao Chiye, the younger son of a family of generals guarding the border join forces (and then something else) to get power and pull down the dysfunctional system.
This is so elegant and smart (a rare web novel I’d recommend to anyone who just loves solid period fiction) and you probably need a notebook to keep track of the politics and military strategy. These characters are very very smart not just because the author says so.
As to the characters, there is a large cast and I love many of them, but for me the novel is made by Shen Zechuan and Xiao Chiye. SZC is gorgeous and delicate and icy and can kill you before you have time to blink. Saddled with the sins of the family he had no pleasant interaction with, he claws his way out of hell (seeing the sinkhole he was trapped in, literally as well) to take down those who wronged him but also to amass power so all the tragedy and corruption won’t happen again and the whole rotten system comes crashing down. XCY is a military genius who is trapped as a hostage in the capital because the court doesn’t trust his family. He longs to return to the plains of home and to take his rightful place. The two men start out as bitter enemies, then reluctant and sniping allies, then as friends and eventually as one of the most gorgeous, tender, swoony OTPs.
Anyway this is one is a bona fide masterpiece, equal parts smart and emotionally intense.
4. Wu Chang Jie - are you an emotional vampire? I am and this novel is a banquet.
In a highly fantastical setting, we meet our protagonists - the sunny Xie Bian and the intense and surly Fan Wushe. Xie Bian is a human who assists his master in conveying souls to the underworld and making sure no mishaps happen. Bian is concentrated sunshine in human form and to meet him is to love him. When the novel opens, his drunk master brings back another human to be his shidi and assist with duties - said human is uncommunicative, intense and surly Wushe. Bian is excited to have a shidi but little does he know that a story dealing with the horrors of past lifetime is about to start.
Anyway, why WCJ? So many reasons. It has such a dark bleak worldview - this world is a horrifying system where powerful cannibalize each other’s cores for an impossible chance to ascend, where gods have sealed off their realm and all that’s left is neverending human misery and hell (the only way you’d see a deity is if they’d been sent down to suffer over and over and over), where even reincarnation doesn’t fix things and bad acts are often unpunished. And the novel then asks - is it worth being a good person in such a world? More, is it worth being a good person in such a world when nothing good has ever happened to you and you have been repeatedly betrayed due to your goodness? And the answer, on Bian’s part, is an uncompromising yes.
Ah yes, the other reason to love this novel - the protagonists and their fucked up fucked up relationship. Bian (who was Prince Ziheng in the past life) is so genuinely good. But he is that rare thing - good but not saintly, noble but not cloying. So much of the novel is his getting taken apart over and over and barely able to put himself back together every time but his soul is still as amazing as ever.
And then there is Wushe (who was Prince Zixiao in past life, Ziheng’s not-bio-related brother.) Wushe is not a good person. He is a monster. And he loves Bian/Ziheng more than his life and his soul and the entire world but he’s also the one who hurt him more than anyone else ever could and did it over and over. His love survived a literal century of torture in the worst kind of hell and refused the usual memory loss of new life. But it also humiliated and broke Ziheng down to his constituent parts.
One of the things that is so fascinating to me about this novel is the question of what can be forgiven/what should be forgiven/what kind of expiation is enough/can you ever love someone who you loved so much and then he hurt you so badly and is now repentant? And it never sweeps trauma under the rug or hand waves it away but deals with it head on.
If you want healthy relationships, you should stay far away from this novel but if intense insane ones with a feral barely human one capable of destroying the world leashed by love and guilt to the sane deeply good one is your bag, come right in.
There is also the world building and the fact that yes, the big fall out between Ziheng x Zixiao is based on not knowing all the facts but it’s not “why can’t you talk?! This is dumb!” But is totally in keeping with both events and their characters. It’s reasonable for Ziheng to do what he does and for Zixiao to misunderstand and decide Ziheng is now his biggest enemy (but still one he’s fixated on) and for Ziheng to never be able to clarify.
Anyway, once again this is trigger warning central so please heed those, but if they are no issue, this one is wonderful.
5. OK, this is hard and switches between Sha Po Lang, Heaven Official’s Blessing and The Golden Stage depending on my mood. So what the hell, I am gonna write about all of them.
Sha Po Lang - so smart and so much clever world building. There is enough politicking to satisfy a Qiang Jin Jiu fan, it’s steampunk, and our two protagonists - Gu Yun, the empire’s most powerful general, who’s loyal to the empire despite being badly wronged by it, and Chang Geng, a cursed prince with barbarian blood and horrifying childhood - are wonderful separately and together. This is a huge slow burn but it’s totally worth it! They fall in love with each other’s hearts and brains and ability as much as anything. (Yes, this is the one with the yifu thing. Gu Yun is made Chang Geng’s foster father when he rescues him and brings him back to the capital as a way to keep CG safe in imperial strife. They are 12 and 19 at the time so clearly it’s never a parental relationship.)
Heaven Official’s Blessing (TCGF) - I love it’s sprawling narrative and cast, I love its inventive setting and picaresque story. It’s hilarious and can make me cry. But the novel’s place on this list is due to Xie Lian who is part Kenshin part drama WWX part pure goodness wrapped in heartbreak and trauma wrapped in sunshine.
The Golden Stage - two smart and principled (yes, they both have principles different though they may be) men navigate their arranged marriage, their past friendship and their past break up, become a super couple (one of the healthiest danmei couples I’ve ever read and proves healthy doesn’t have to be boring), save the country and bring down the emperor or two and just generally this is my rainy day book.
I guess I didn’t write as much for the three n5 candidates as I did for 1-4 but my brain is beginning to curdle so...

Hi, I'm reading 2ha currently but I've stopped atm because I'm at the part where it's explicitly stated that wanning fell in love with mo ran when moran was 15years old? Is it true? That wanning has had a crush on mo ran when mo ran was just 15 while wanning was 30+? Isn't it grooming then?
LOL, no offence, anon, but I had a little chuckle at the idea of CWN grooming anyone 😂 He is just not capable!
OBLIGATORY WARNING: SPOILERS!!!
The fact is, this book has a list of warnings as long as my arm that includes all kinds of obscenities, including mutilating and cannibalizing children, treason, torture, murder, genocide, sexual slavery and all flavours of non-con and rape. There are plenty of legitimate reasons to be uncomfortable and not touch it with a ten-foot pole, however, grooming is not one of them.
When the mentions of this novel first crossed my dash, I checked out the summary and was immediately put off by it being a teacher/student relationship, which is a particularly squicky power imbalance for me and something I usually can’t click out of fast enough. However, when I actually sat down to read it, I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that 2ha actually subverted the power dynamics.
First of all, grooming implies a predatory intent. It involves manipulating a minor into entering a sexual relationship. All key elements that would make it grooming are missing in this case. CWN has no predatory intent (or any intent, for that matter, unless it is to protect Mo Ran, teach him well and watch him prosper), he is incapable of manipulation and, honestly, sex does not really occur to him as more than a vague theoretical concept and something he knows other people practice, but which is certainly not a possibility for him.
In addition, in the context of the society that they live in, the taboo of their relationship is not the age gap, but the fact that they are master and disciple, which, again, makes all the sense to me, because of the inherent power imbalance between a teacher and a student, and the sacred obligation they both have towards each other (but especially CWN towards Mo Ran).
Another important thing: loving someone, and even finding them sexually attractive, is not inherently predatory. Acting on it is. There is a reason why the “But he wanted it!!” and “We’re in love!!” line of defence is laughable and gross in the context of large power imbalances, be it age gaps or teacher/student relationships. No matter how horny the teenager is, as an adult, it is your responsibility to make sure that no lines are crossed, and CWN absolutely maintains that boundary. Before the time skip, there is not a single instance of sexual contact between them that was not initiated (or forced upon CWN) by Mo Ran.
When it comes to CWN’s feelings towards Mo Ran, yes, they are soft, and yes, they are deep, and yes, even idealistically romantic, but everything about them is just so... innocent. All it ever amounts to is, ‘If I had a better temper, and if I was more beautiful, or if I was not so old, then maybe I could hope he could love me!’ But he never ever acts upon it. He does not think it is even an option for him. In fact, the book makes a point of underlining that he makes sure not to burden Mo Ran with his feelings.
There is absolutely no grooming going on here, CWN keeps his love well hidden, to the point that for the longest time, Mo Ran thinks he does not even like him. In addition, CWN is ashamed of his feelings. He is well aware of the master/disciple taboo, he thinks his feelings are dirty and inappropriate and he does his absolute best to suppress them, to the point where these thoughts don’t even get the chance to fully form before he squashes them.
Another important thing to mention here is that CWN was was raised by a monk and that his cultivation path was one of abstinence. Left to his own devices, sex with Mo Ran (or anyone else, for that matter) would never have happened. Another sad aspect of this whole thing is that CWN is utterly inexperienced, he has no idea how sex between men is even supposed to work, until Taxian-jun gets a hold of him. In his second life, the only reason he has any sexual thoughts at all is because of his explicit dreams involving adult!Mo Ran, which are not really dreams, but memories of a very thorough sexual education forced upon him by Taxian-jun. It is also important to note that CWN is very ashamed of what he thinks is a product of his own dirty mind and that he takes extra measures to make sure that he maintains an appropriate distance between himself and Mo Ran.
I think it is no coincidence that CWN’s sexual attraction towards Mo Ran comes to the forefront after the time-skip. It is pretty clear that CWN is suddenly all hot and bothered and cannot control his boners only after Mo Ran has fully grown into an adult. It is obvious that he gets hard for the adult man in a way he never did for the boy. Another important aspect of the time-skip is that a lot of Mo Ran’s character growth and maturing (mental and emotional) takes place during this time, apart from Chu Wanning, which creates this huge dissonance in CWN’s brain and also eliminates the inevitable squickiness that would have resulted from him lusting after someone that he personally raised to adulthood.
And all this is without even getting into what TXJ did to him when he captured him. CWN was so unwilling, it took a lot of time and extended torture before TXJ forced him to cooperate in bed. Even Mo Ran 1.0 was extremely predatory towards CWN, though he did eventually grow himself a moral compass after the time skip, and though the instincts to just hold CWN down and take him were still there, he had learned the importance of consent. When it comes to their sexual relationship, there is not a single moment where Mo Ran was not the one pulling all the strings.
Anyway, TL;DR Chu Wanning never did a single thing wrong in his entire life.

生不如死| torture worse than death
Rating: M Fandom: 二哈和他的白猫师尊 - 肉包不吃肉 | The Husky and His White Cat Shizun - Meatbun Doesn't Eat Meat Word Count: 1608 Pairing: Chu Wanning/Mo Ran | Taxian-Jun Summary: Chu Wanning lay sprawled haphazardly on the floor, strands of black hair fanning behind his head in a halo. Pale veins decorated the light pink of his closed eyelids, two haitang petals set against the paper white of his skin. His breaths, slow with unconsciousness, came softly through parted lips, the rise and fall of his chest almost imperceptible. --- OR: Set directly after MR's flashback in Ch. 89. What happened after 0.5 Mo Ran and Chu Wanning's first time?
[read on ao3]
Chu Wanning lay sprawled haphazardly on the floor, strands of black hair fanning behind his head in a halo. Pale veins decorated the light pink of his closed eyelids, two haitang petals set against the paper white of his skin. His breaths, slow with unconsciousness, came softly through parted lips, the rise and fall of his chest almost imperceptible.
Taxian-jun adjusted the last few ties of his robes and stood back to admire his work, gazing almost pensively at Chu Wanning’s prone figure. All of Chu Wanning’s clothing had long since been feverishly torn away, and garments cluttered the room sporadically, thrown atop furniture or heaped in piles on the floor. Some unfortunate articles lay tattered and useless, ripped apart in Taxian-jun’s cruel haste to access the intoxicating warmth of his Shizun’s body.
His eyes raked across the smooth canvas of skin offered by Chu Wanning, pausing at each bruise, each crimson mark interrupting the pale expanse of flesh. Chu Wanning had slipped into exhaustive slumber on his back, with his arms and legs splayed as if to present the evidence of his degradation. Dried bits of fluid, tinged pink with blood, had tracked streaks down Chu Wanning’s inner thighs, a watercolor of debauchment painted between his legs. Taxian-jun’s irises darkened, a vicious expression frightfully twisting his handsome features. Hunger, malice, and perverse satisfaction flickered across Taxian-jun’s face in turns.
Suddenly, as if struck by a memory or the onset of a nightmare, Chu Wanning’s long lashes trembled against his cheek, and a soft murmur escaped from his lips. His sharp brows scrunched, forming a wrinkle that creased his forehead. His face stayed like that momentarily, troubled even in sleep, before gradually smoothing out once more.
Unbidden, a sharp wave of pity rose within Taxian-jun. To see his Shizun, Yuheng of the Night Sky, the Beidou Immortal, reduced to this, nothing more than a whore writhing beneath the prowess of the First Emperor of the Cultivation World— Taxian-jun almost felt sympathetic. Of course, so thoroughly humiliating Chu Wanning had brought him a grim sense of sadistic pleasure, but his gratification still seemed to fall short somewhere, like an arrow that had missed bullseye by a few marks. This faint unease churned within him along with the pity, leaving Taxian-jun feeling strangely out of sorts, as if he were a lost traveler who had somehow stumbled his way into Wushan Palance, stumbled into standing over the naked body of his ruined Shizun.
Taxian-jun shook his head to dispel the filmy wisps of his thoughts. He had originally planned to call an attendant to drag Chu Wanning, naked and debased, away to some corner of the Palace. Physical conquest wasn’t enough to slake his animalistic thirst for vengeance; he wanted to irrevocably tarnish Chu Wanning, to incinerate his pristine, austere image into wisps of ash. Taxian-jun had even imagined Chu Wanning’s reaction upon awakening to four unfamiliar walls, picturing with a sort of vicious glee how his Shizun’s face would blanch white upon finding himself so unceremoniously carried away and dumped aside.
But now, just considering the idea of someone else having the privilege to lay eyes on Chu Wanning like this, so completely fucked out, ignited a possessive rage that burned like forest brush up his esophagus. Mine, he thought. Chu Wanning belongs to me.
Letting out a puff of a sigh, he stooped down to pick up Chu Wanning, maneuvering Chu Wanning’s head to rest on his shoulder. Chu Wanning’s lashes flickered; he seemed to make a grumble of protest, but he eventually burrowed closer into Taxian-jun’s chest, an unconscious effort to seek warmth, like a sunflower tilting to catch rays of light on its petals. His hair splayed down in rivulets and framed the elegant lines of his face. The strands reflected the dim candlelight in a dull luster, like shimmering black pearls.
Before he was even aware of the impulse, Taxian-jun dipped down to catch Chu Wanning’s petal-soft lips in a chaste kiss. The faint taste of dew permeated his mouth and melted like candy on his tongue.
A servant, shakily bowing, brought a tub of warm water and some linen towels to the room. Taxian-jun shot him a glare in dismissal and turned back to face the bed, scarlet-gold curtains drawn closed around the mattress. Steam licked upwards from the water and filled the room with a smoky, intangible haze.
The curtains swished open under Taxian-jun’s hand, revealing the figure of a man still sleeping, wrapped up in an animal pelt.
Taxian-jun extricated Chu Wanning from the covers, hoisting his pliant body into his embrace and bringing him to the tub. When the warm water submerged Chu Wanning’s listless limbs, his eyes blearily cracked open. He affixed a distant, cloudy gaze towards Taxian-jun, dazed and unaware.
“Mo Ran?” He asked, leaning against the wood of the tub.
“Go back to sleep.” Taxian-jun responded roughly. His voice rang hoarse and gravelly in the still air.
Perhaps Chu Wanning had truly suffered beyond his limit, or perhaps, in the realm between sleep and clarity, he had forgotten his current situation. For rather than his usual intransigence, Chu Wanning instead obediently closed his eyes and drifted back into unconsciousness.
Taxian-jun felt as if something blunt had cleaved a groove into his chest, heart raw with wound and spurting fresh blood. He reached out as if to touch Chu Wanning, to stroke his hair, but then abruptly retracted his arm and fisted his hand at his side.
Taxian-jun genuinely never knew how to regard this Shizun of his. The gulf that bridged them spanned vast and had only grown throughout the years. Its gaping maw stretched wide, a welter of contempt, loathing, and pain brought to boil in its abysmal depths. His entire being ached to see Chu Wanning completely and utterly subjugated, yet a small part of him still felt fourteen, like he would pick down the stars in the sky just so Chu Wanning would direct him with a hint of a smile.
The wood beneath Taxian-jun’s grip creaked. What a pitiable disciple, what a despicable teacher. Chu Wanning had whipped him bloody, and a piece of Mo Ran still wanted to turn like a docile lamb and present his other cheek.
“You’re a bastard, Chu Wanning.” Taxian-jun spat at Chu Wanning’s unperceptive figure. As expected, Chu Wanning remained silent in the onslaught. He had soaked for so long that the tips of his fingers had pruned. Yet unmoving and unaware, with lurid marks littered across his body, he still managed to radiate an ethereal sort of beauty.
Taxian-jun’s anger receded as fast as it had surged, leaving him oddly deflated. He bit his lip and finally picked up a linen, wiping away at Chu Wanning with all the care of a collector cleaning his most prized figurine.
Somehow, Taxian-jun ended up spending the night with Chu Wanning. They were in his personal bedroom, after all, and though Taxian-jun didn’t want someone to take Chu Wanning away, he also couldn’t very well let Chu Wanning oust him from his own room. So, after drying Chu Wanning from the bath, Taxian-jun, a bit begrudgingly, laid him down again on the bed.
The night had deepened to an inky obsidian, and fatigue blearily lapped at Taxian-jun’s consciousness. Chu Wanning, that selfish ingrate, had blissfully slept for the better part of a shichen while This Venerable One assiduously waited on him on hand and foot!
Even so, when Taxian-jun slipped beneath the covers, he curled himself around Chu Wanning possessively, holding him tight against his chest. Like this, the crisp haitang scent that lingered on Chu Wanning overwhelmed his senses, heady and soporific. He nuzzled into Chu Wanning’s neck, pressing kisses atop the bite marks he had left earlier, sighing with something close to contentment.
Eyelids growing heavy, Taxian-jun allowed himself a final kiss on Chu Wanning’s parted lips, tongue gently grazing across the pink mouth, tasting his delicate flavor. He pulled Chu Wanning’s soft body even closer into his embrace, and the First Emperor gradually stilled to the steady rhythm of Chu Wanning’s heartbeat.
Chu Wanning woke up subsumed in an oppressive heat. He scrunched his nose and opened his eyes, registering the hard muscle pressed against his back, the arms wound around his waist. Like a bucket of cold water, sharp clarity drenched him in an instant, and he shot up in a rage, pushing Mo Ran off his body.
With his cultivation gone, though, Chu Wanning’s violent shove barely registered in Taxian-jun’s sleep, and he only mumbled a bit, turning around and kicking the sheets off the bed.
Chu Wanning stared down at himself in a daze, the cruel events from the night before slicing him open like thousands of blades. He wasn’t familiar with how Taxian-jun had rearranged Wushan Palace, so slipping away now would chance his intrusion into unwelcome spaces. Still, Chu Wanning thought he would rather die than meet Taxian-jun’s gaze when he woke up, so he salvaged whatever pieces of his clothing he could, hurriedly arranging himself to appear somewhat presentable and striding to the door.
Yet before he left, with a hand still hovering over the doorknob, Chu Wanning turned back to look at Mo Ran’s form on the bed for a long, long time.
Taxian-jun awoke to an empty bed, the sheets wrapped firmly around him.
He didn’t truly think about the way he had been so carefully swaddled, the top edge of the covering folded down two inches and tucked around his body, until he was thirty-two, as pear blossom white burned a searing trail of bitterness down his throat.

It’s time for the weekly training that I already know, but they want us to participate so okay, I guess, but that means it’s ALSO time to listen with one ear while I yell about another gay webnovel.
So, okay. I yelled a bit about Yuwu (or Yu Wu) before, but when I started reading it this summer, there were only 30-something chapters translated, and as of last night, I think it’s up to eighty (the current translator is working like a beast, and i’m honestly in awe). Yuwu is by meatbun, the author of erha, and is technically set in the same universe, just significantly removed in time. This doesn’t have too-too much bearing on things (Mo XI and Mo Ran are not related), and you run into concepts like the ‘butterfly bone beauty feast’ in both novels.
And as a meatbun story, this book has hilarious highs and horrifyingly dark lows, and I love every minute of it. I’ll try to bold relevant warnings as I go!
The story stars Mo Xi, a cold, upright, proper nobleman, and one of the foremost generals in the kingdom of Chonghua. Years ago, he fought alongside another general, Gu Mang, until Gu Mang turned traitor, stabbed Mo Xi right over the heart (symbolism!), and defected to the enemy kingdom of Liao. As the story opens, Mo Xi has just received word that Liao... is giving Gu Mang back.
Yeah, the story doesn’t beat around the bush for long, they were absolutely 100% banging. They were having a long, passionate, extended love affair until Gu Mang turned traitor, and Mo Xi is still absolutely not over it. I’m no longer positive in what order the information is revealed, but Gu Mang was a slave, and the first slave in Chonghua to be freed and promoted to the rank of general. Does this have anything to do with his later decision to turn on the country? Mayyyyybe! But back in the day, even as a slave, he met Mo Xi, at that time, a child of a disgraced noble family, and as his shixiong, took it on himself to protect and care forthis sad, lonely little shidi. The latest chapters have been revealing the moment this transitioned from a platonic relationship into a distinctly not-platonic one, but there was really, really a lot of genuine love, admiration, and respect between the two of them.
But, back to the present! Mo Xi gets word that this notorious traitor is being extradited to Chonghua, but he’s out in the field with the army. Gu Mang is being sent to the capital. He can’t do anything about this right now except stew in private, unhappy emotions.
Smash cut to two years later, and Mo Xi’s return to the capital. Finally, he can find out what Gu Mang’s been up to. Prison? Probably? HA, no, this is meatbun, and meatbun goes harder than that. Content warning: sexual slavery, because apparently it’s standard policy in Chonghua for traitors to be placed in a brothel specifically for purposes of clients taking out their anger on them or humiliating them in whatever way they so desire.  For bonus D: points, the brothel is owned by the same nobleman who used to own Gu Mang. Things are not completely dire for Gu Mang, for reasons I’m not going to try to describe here, but when Mo Xi finally can’t stand not knowing, and goes to see him, Gu Mang is... not the same shining, bright, clever man he once knew.
Yeah, so his mind and sense of self are literally fractured. I’m not too-too familiar with the philosophical(?) concepts driving this, but it’s similar to how Mo Ran had to collect all of Chu Wanning’s souls when he almost died. Gu Mang is missing a number of souls, and he doesn’t remember who he is, he doesn’t remember his history, he’s even lost most of his vocabulary. When Mo Xi finds him, he struggles with basic communication. The story hasn’t explained what happened yet, or what can be done to fix it, but the Guoshi of Liao Kingdom is sketchy as hell, and this sure feels like something that was done to Gu Mang.
So, relatively early on, Mo Xi extracts Gu Mang from the brothel and brings him back to his estate. This isn’t necessarily a happy development, because Mo Xi is still incredibly angry and incredibly betrayed, but now, it isn’t even like he can ask for an explanation or find closure. Gu Mang is... slowly recovering bits and pieces of his memories, but this isn’t necessarily a happy development either, because the emperor has said that he’s going to pursue content warning: sketchy human experimentation/torture. He said this outright to Mo Xi, and Mo Xi goes ahead and communicates it to Gu Mang, and honestly, the whole outlook is so focking bleak, but for some reason, Meatbun balances incredibly dire situations with just enough optimistic flavor that I never quite lose hope.
I’m not going to try to describe the supporting characters, because their storylines are just starting to blossom, and I feel like I’d cause more confusion than I’d resolve. But honestly, I’m having a delightful time right now, and I’m getting probablyyyy two chapters with every three days, and it’s been SO tasty.
The tragedy of the old relationship was really tasty to begin with, but the additional class-related tragedy that fuels it? Honestly, that’s not usually my cup of tea, but this story leans into the difficulties of a relationship between a noble and a slave, even once the slave is free, even once they both become generals, and it all hurts so good. And we still haven’t gotten a full accounting of all the ways Gu Mang suffered, but we’ve gotten so much, and he’s such a sweet boy, and it hurts in all the best ways. It hurts to see the way Mo Xi is hurting, and then it hurts to see the way Mo Xi treats Gu Mang.
But then, in terms of the characters themselves, it hurts Mo Xi to realize Gu Mang is coming back to Chonghua, and to know that Gu  it hurts Mo Xi more when he learns about everything Gu Mang has been through, and it hurts him when Gu Mang can’t remember the history that is still so, so, so important to Mo Xi, but then!!! It hurts him even more when Gu Mang does start to remember! This is all the angst I could ever ask for, and it’s set up so that no matter how someone breathes, it’s virtually guaranteed to hurt Mo Xi.
And I would Die for Gu Mang, honestly. We only get to see bits and pieces of him in his prime, before everything went to hell, but he is really truly the best of boys, and he has so much suffering ahead of him. I have no idea how quickly the story is going to explain what exactly led to the specific decisions he made (we’ve seen enough to understand why he would make a decision, but not this decision), and still know almost nothing about what happened to him while he was in Liao, or how possible it is for him to recover what he’s lost, and I’m honestly so invested. This is probably a little more incoherent than most of these rambles that I’ve done, but this is a surprisingly difficult story to describe, haha. It’s a very tragic experience, but especially if you’ve read and enjoyed erha, it’s one that I highly, HIGHLY recommend

breeding kink, you say??? might you share for..... research purposes?
Sure! The book is
"Dumb Husky and his White Cat Shizun" (Commonly just called 2ha) by Meatbun Doesn't Eat Meat
***** The title is just alliterative of their personalities, it isn't about animals, and the author name is her online pen-name
Once upon a time, the Evil Emperor Mo Weiyu covered the world in darkness.
His power was unparalleled, his cunning and with unmatched, and his ruthlessness allowed him to use magics so depraved that all record of them was supposed to have been erased from the world.
At the root of Mo Weiyu's cruelty was a heartbreaking loss- the death of a man he loved, Shi Mei, at the hands of their teacher. The venerable, cold, imperious, and hateful Chu Wanning. A man seen as the paragon of virtue, dignity, and power, once upon a time.
Until Mo Weiyu, mourning the loss of Shi Mei, turned himself into a monster, destroyed the world, slaughtered thousands, and finally took his frigid teacher captive and made him an unwilling consort. For years Mo Weiyu delighted in torturing his teacher's body, breaking his mind and shattering his soul.
But then Chu Wanning finally died, and with his dying breath begged Mo Weiyu to forgive himself. Mo Weiyu went mad, refused to admit his "Consort Chu" was dead, and locked himself away in his palace.
Alone, lost, and joyless, Mo Weiyu dug himself a grave beside his teacher, drank a vial of poison, and laid down to die.
... and promptly woke up in the body of 16 year old Mo Ran- Mo Weiyu himself before he became a dark emperor. His beloved Shi Mei is still alive, Chu Wanning is still alive, and the darkness that will take Shi Mei's life is years away- plenty of time for Mo Ran to save him!
But as Mo Ran tries to take advantage of his knowledge of his past life, things begin to change. Small joys he'd always believed were the result of Shi Mei's flirtations turn out to be the actions of Chu Wanning, quietly taking care of his students.
Mo Ran's entire life from beginning to end was a mess. Son of a prostitute, raised in a brothel, kicked around unwanted and unloved by any after his mother's death- the only sure thing was that Chu Wanning was evil. Cold. Hateful.
Not that he was warm but unsure. Kind but afraid of attention. Good- only because he knew the tragic weight of warfare and death.
As Mo Ran lives his life again and grows into an adult, he will learn to see the world through different eyes, and come to realize that at the root of his hatred in Chu Wanning is a poisoned love he twisted into cruelty.
But the past changes too rapidly, events that should be set in stone are changing, and Mo Ran quickly comes to a horrible realization:: Someone else has come back in time with memories of the other life. Someone else has mastered the forbidden Zhulong Chess Formation- the dark arts only Mo Ran is supposed to know.
And they mean to destroy everything Mo Ran holds dear.
While he fights to protect Chu Wanning, Shi Mei, and his cousin Xue Meng from the gathering evil, Mo Ran will have to acknowledge his own soul-shattering love for Chu Wanning... and find a way to atone for the horrific sins of his past life.
Sins that did not stay buried in the past.
Mo Ran is not the only person who remembers the past. He is, in fact, one of three.
The dark emperor.
The enemy in the shadows.
And Chu Wanning himself, who sees flashes of the degradation and sexual humiliation Mo Weiyu put him through in that past life... and is very much interested.
Chu Wanning and Mo Ran have been given a chance to find love in one another. If they can hold on to that love, they might just manage to survive the years to come and find their happily ever after.
Mo Ran is the one with the breeding kink... and the Domination kink... and the sadism kink... and in this life the CNC kink.
Chu Wanning is masochism, CNC, humiliation, edging, and submission.
And if you'd like to read it and want a hook up for the English version, just send me a DM and I will point you to the epub!

Chapter 24 - This Venerable One Declares Cold War on Him
For a while, no one spoke in the hall. The only sound that could be heard was the choked sobs of Mr. Chen.
Shi Mei lowered his head and covered his cheek. Then he raised his head to look at Chu Wanning, his eyes full of earnestness: "Shizun, don't fight anymore. If you continue to fight like this, it will reach Life-Death Peak. . ."
Mo Ran was even more frightened. Although he was an asshole, he was infatuated with Shi Mei. When he was born again in this life, he secretly vowed to hold him in his arms and protect them. But it hadn't even been a few days and Shi Mei had been injured by the willow vine. What the hell is this!
He didn't care about going to settle things with Chu Wanning. He hurried to Shi Mei's side to check the wound on his face.
Shi Mei said softly, "I won't get in the way. . ."
"Let me see."
"It's alright."
Even though he resisted, Mo Ran still pulled down the hand covering the wound.
His eyes suddenly closed.
A deep bloody scar hideously stretched across his face. The flesh was flayed and blood kept oozing out, flowing down his neck. . .
Mo Ran's eyes burned red. He bit his lip and stared at it for a long time. He abruptly turned his head and yelled at Chu Wanning: "Are you satisfied now?"
Chu Wanning's face was sullen. He didn't say anything, didn't apologize, didn't step forward, and stayed frozen in place, still holding Tianwen, lifeless without any spiritual power, in his hand.
". . ."
Mo Ran's chest seemed to be filled with a myriad of dancing spirits and demons.
Who could stand having a beloved, who died once in a previous life, repeatedly suffer such aggravation and torture?
He and Chu Wanning just stared at each other; neither gave in, neither conceded. It felt like blood vessels were bursting in Mo Ran's eyes. He had hated Chu Wanning with such intensity for so many years. He and the man in front of him were always at odds!
When he had first entered the sect, whenever he did something wrong, Chu Wanning just beat him. Later, Shi Mei was injured. Chu Wanning only had three disciples in his life, but he had stood idly by and insisted on not saving one of them. Later, when Shi Mei died and Life-Death Peak was destroyed, he, Mo Weiyu, had become the emperor of the cultivation world, who wouldn't obey him? Only Chu Wanning was working against him, ruining his great campaign and poking at his conscience - constantly reminding him that the Immortal Emperor, no matter how powerful he was, was nothing more than a heartless and rebellious madman.
Chu Wanning.
Chu Wanning...
Before this life and after his death, it's always been him!
Both of them were still wearing matching auspicious clothes. The red shirts faced each other, standing at a distance. There seemed to be an unfilled gap between them.
Eventually, Chu Wanning finally recalled Tianwen.
Mr. Chen heaved a sigh of relief and knelt in front of Shi Mei. "Thank Buddha, thank Buddha. This immortal cultivator is a living buddha who ends all suffering. Thank you for saving my family. Thank you, cultivator, thank you."
It was always like this.
He dealt with the problem but he drew the willow vine every time. Chu Wanning cleanly did what he was commissioned to do and broke the strict sect rules in the process. In the end, the 'Buddha' was someone else and he was a villain.
It had always been like this.
He had a bad temper, he admitted it.
He had no regrets either.
Only the willow vine had missed its target and he hit his disciple. He finally felt some semblance of guilt, but he had no real dignity and was reluctant to say anything about it. He left on his own and moved towards the Chen family's youngest daughter.
When the little girl saw him, she unconsciously took a few steps back in fright, shivering.
Out of every surviving member of the Chen family, she was the only good one left. Chu Wanning spoke in a slightly slower tone: "Your mother has been possessed by a malevolent ghost and has lost more than 20 years of her life. If she still doesn't want to repent and still has evil intentions in her heart, she'll die in the near future. After she wakes up, tell her to personally set up a red mahogany spiritual tablet for Miss Luo. Miss Luo's identity needs to be acknowledged on the tablet. Luo Xianxian is Chen Bohuan's legitimate wife. You have been hiding the truth for years. The truth needs to be known. This will fulfill her life's wish."
After a pause, he kept going:
"In addition, your whole family will kneel down three times a day, three bows from the knees and nine full kowtows, and recite the 'Send Off Incantation'. Only then will you be able to satisfy Miss Luo and drive away the ghost plaguing your family. This incantation must be recited for ten years without stopping. If you stop halfway through, Miss Luo will come back to seek revenge."
The little girl trembled: ". . . Understood. Many thanks, Dao Master. . ."
Chu Wanning turned his head again, his eyes as sharp as a snow-covered dagger. His gaze swept across the youngest Chen son and Mr. Chen and said sharply: "After Chen Yao wakes up, you both need to tell her everything you've been hiding. Whether you get to stay or go is up to her. If you try to hide anything, I'll cut your tongues out!"
The two of them who were originally rebellious individuals, who wouldn't have dared to agree to this, repeatedly bowed as a promise.
"As for the Hundred Butterfly Fragrance Powder, Luo Shusheng prepared it with his own hands yet you brazenly claim that you made it. You know what to do. I don't need to spell it out for you." Chu Wanning brushed his sleeve aside.
"W-We'll go to the shop to fix this, to clarify things. We'll tell everyone that this powder was Mr. Luo's. . . Mr. Luo's. . ."
After everything was arranged, Chu Wanning asked Mo Ran to help Chen Yao back to her room. I'll cleanse the poison from her body.
Although Mo Ran held hatred in his heart, he knew that being so young meant that he should offer his shizun more respect than disobedience, so he stayed quiet. He shook Shi Mei's hand and whispered: "Go treat your face and stop the bleeding. I'll help her to the room."
The Chen family’s eldest son’s bedroom still had a large red 'double happiness' banner. He was pretty sure that the accident happened so fast and hard that he had been too occupied and forgot to take it down. Chen Bohuan had become dust at this point, so it was extremely ironic to look at it like this.
In this absurd situation, Chen Yao had eventually become the victim of greed. What would she do once she woke up?
Her body was not as resilient as Shi Mei's. After all, she was an ordinary person. Chu Wanning silently cleanse her body and fed her a pill. During the process, Mo Ran was at his side to provide towels and water. The two didn't speak, nor did they look at each other.
When leaving, Chu Wanning inadvertently glanced at the wall. His eyes shifted away, but he suddenly realized something, and turned back, staring at the words hanging on the wall.
It was a few lines of regular script in ink that shouldn't have been written that long ago. The ink should not have yellowed yet.
The writing was --
Soft rosy hands, yellow sealed wine, the city brimmed with the colours of spring as willows lined the palace walls.
East wind devastates, happiness wears thin. A cupful of melancholy, several years of separation. Wrong wrong wrong!
Spring remains the same, but her frame grew thin, tears washed away the rouge and dampened her silk handkerchief.
The peach blossoms are falling, by the empty waterside pavilion. Our oath to each other still remains, yet I can no longer profess my love. Don’t don’t don’t!
Chu Wanning's heart suddenly skipped a beat. The regular script was neat and correct, and the three characters spelling Chen Bohuan were very eye-catching.
The son of Chen, who was forced to marry the daughter of the Yao family, had an unspeakable sadness in his heart. In the last days of his life, he could only stand by the window, with an ink and brush, transcribing the first part of "Phoenix Hairpin"??
Never wanting to stay in Chen home anymore, he endured the sharp pain from the wound on his shoulder and turned to leave.
Chu Wanning and Shi Mei were both injured and weren't able to travel back to Life-Death Peak on foot. Chu Wanning especially didn't like flying with swords, so they went into town to find an inn to rest. It also gave them a chance to see the aftermath of the Master of Ceremonies Ghost's ritual the next day.
Although those ghostly corpses were obliterated into dust by Chu Wanning's "Wind", only the bodies controlled by the Master of Ceremonies Ghost were destroyed. The souls were left alone. They would stay a few more days to make sure there were no residual effects.
Chu Wanning walked silently in front and the two disciples followed behind.
A thought popped up in Shi Mei's mind and he asked: "A-Ran, the clothes you and Shizun are wearing. . . they're. . . what's going on?"
Mo Ran froze. He suddenly remembered that he and Chu Wanning were still wearing auspicious wedding outfits. For fear of Shi Mei misunderstanding, they had to take them off.
"They're. . . from the illusion that happened earlier. Don't think too much about it, I. . ."
Halfway through the conversation, he took another look and discovered that, because Shi Mei had also participated in the Master of Ceremonies Ghost's wedding ceremony, he was also wearing one. However, its style was different from theirs. In addition to the wear and tear of the tattered outfit, it was hard to make out what its original design was supposed to be.
But nonetheless, it was also an auspicious outfit.
Standing side by side with Shi Mei right now, he could almost imagine holding his hand, celebrating in the Master of Ceremonies Ghost's illusion and drinking a cup of ceremonial tea together.
Because of that thought, he just couldn't bring himself to take off the outfit. He just stared at Shi Mei blankly.
Shi Mei asked with a gentle smile: "What's the matter? You trailed off."
Mo Ran muttered: ". . . Nothing."
Chu Wanning was in front of them, a few steps ahead. He didn't know how much of their conversation he heard, but he suddenly stopped and turned around.
The sun had started to rise. After a night of ups and downs, the twilight faded away. and the first ray of dawn emerged from the horizon. The bright red sun rose like a broken and bleeding heart, struggling out of the abyss of the dark night, with a glorious, splendid touch.
Chu Wanning stood against the light, standing at the end of the long night that was getting more and more translucent, standing in the light of the first rays of sunlight painting the sky.
He was facing to his side, his clothes looked as dark as blood. The sun painted a faint golden edge on the side of his face, making it difficult to see his expression.
Suddenly, with a strong surge of spiritual power, the auspicious outfit was torn to shreds by a powerful force.
The fine red fabric, like the red petals of a begonia flower, blowing in the wind, scattering in all directions.
The outfit fell away, revealing the white robe underneath. It fluttered in the wind along with his long black hair.
Fresh blood on his shoulder.
Fragments of cloth flying in the wind.
The splotches of blood that he had obtained trying to protect Mo Ran were especially prominent and vibrant on the white robe.
Chu Wanning sneered rather mockingly: "Mo Weiyu, what's there to misunderstand between us?"
When he got angry, he would call Mo Ran 'Mo Weiyu'. He stayed cold and polite, no bite to his words.
Mo Ran choked, preventing him from making any kind of comeback.
Chu Wanning smiled and walked away.
At this time, there was no one around. He walked up ahead by himself, as if the vast world was small and he was its only inhabitant.
His mocking face was angry and bitter. As soon as he arrived at the inn and closed the door, he couldn't help but tense up.
Chu Wanning grit his teeth, with a painful look on his face, and raised his hand to touch his shoulder.
The Master of Ceremonies Ghost's claws were an extension of an immortal being's body. Because of that, they were almost as powerful as the heavens itself. They were extremely powerful weapons. His entire shoulder was torn and scrapped down to the bone. But, because of his rush to eradicate the evil spirit, he didn't deal with it in time. Now the wound was infected and had started to fester. The pain was unbearable.
Standing in his room, he calmed his breathing. Chu Wanning wanted to take of his robe, but the blood on his shoulder had already started clotting. His clothes and his flesh were stuck together, every tug causing severe pain.
Mo Ran was in the room next door. The inn wasn't very soundproof. He didn't want anyone to hear him, so he bit his lip and viciously tore the bloody cloth off his shoulder!
"Ah. . .!!"
After a muffled grunt, Chu Waning slowly loosened his lips. His lips and teeth were painted in blood. He panted. His face was drained of blood, a cold sweat breaking out all over.
Dropping his long and thick eyelashes, he trembled slightly and glanced at his injuries.
It wasn't too bad.
He could handle this. . .
He supported himself on a table and slowly sat down. With some clean water and the handkerchief that Shi Mei had brought, he pushed through the pain and used his uninjured hand to slowly clean the wound.
He used a sharp knife to cut off the festering skin.
Then he applied the wound medicine made by Madam Wang.
And then, slowly and with difficulty, wrapped himself in gauze.
He wasn't used to showing weakness in front of others. He had experienced this kind of pain many times, and every time he had survived it alone.
If an beast was injured, it would hide itself and lick its wound. Sometimes he felt like those animals. In the future, he would probably always be alone.
He knew he wasn't likeable so he didn't want to pitifully ask anyone for help. He had his own inexplicable paranoid obsession with his dignity.
When he took off his clothes, a pouch fell to the ground.
An acacia tree was embroidered on it in red silk. He moved his painful and trembling fingertips and slowly opened it. Inside was two pieces of entangled blue silk.
His and Mo Ran's.
Chu Wanning was at a loss for a while. He wanted to hold the pouch over the candle flame and burn it along with the ridiculous knot of hair. But in the end, he couldn't do it.
Binding hair as husband and wife, the love between them is clear.
The pitched laughter of the golden boy and girl seemed to ring again in his ears.
He knew the deep throbbing sensation he felt in his heart and he hated himself even more. He held the soft pouch tightly in his hand and slowly closed his eyes.
He couldn't accept the thoughts of Mo Ran he had always had in his heart. He wanted nothing more than to be able to dig out his heart, and slice out those nasty thoughts. Cut them out then throw it away.
What was wrong with him?
Is Mo Weiyu really the one he should be concerned about? What kind of shizun was he? He really was worse than an animal!
Knock knock knock.
There was suddenly a knock on the door and Chu Wanning, who had been chastising himself, was startled. He quickly raised his eyes and swiftly put the pouch into his wide sleeve. He put on a not-so-convincing composed expression.
"Who is it?"
". . . Shizun, it's me." Mo Ran's voice sounded outside, making Chu Wanning's heart beat a little faster. "Open the door."

Chapter 10 - This Venerable One Goes on His First Mission
Fortunately, Chu Wanning didn't seem to hear any of the "mouth torture" that Mo Ran had acted out himself. He barely managed to make sense of the nonsense he had heard.
When he returned to his bedroom, it was already very late, and Mo Ran quickly fell asleep. The next day, he went to morning training as usual. Morning training was definitely not how he would choose to spend his morning: it was way too early.
After morning training ended, Meng Po Hall, the place where everyone grabbed breakfast, got more and more crowded.
Mo Ran sat across from Shi Mei. Xue Meng got there late and the seat next to Shi Miao was taken. With a grimace, he reluctantly sat down next to Mo Ran.
If Mo Ran were to pick one of the best aspects about Life-Death Peak, he would definitely say: this sect never needed to worry about fasting.
Unlike many of the floating out-of-the-way sects in the upper cultivation world, Life-Death Peak had its own set of cultivation techniques. They didn't abstain from meat and fish and didn't require fasting, so the food in the sect had always been plentiful.
Mo Ran sipped a cup of spicy and fragrant tea, along with a side of crushed peanuts and chopped vegetables, crispy soybeans, and the crispy pan-fried buns in front of him were specifically for Shi Mei.
Xue Meng squinted at Mo Ran, rather mockingly: "Mo Ran, I can't believe you're still standing after leaving Red Lotus Pavilion. I'm impressed."
Mo Ran didn't even raise his head: "Then you don't really know me at all."
"Then who are you?" Xue Meng snorted. "Shizun didn't break your legs. Are you so crazy that you don't know what onion you are?"
"Oh, I'm a scallion, What about you?"
Xue Meng sneered, "I'm Shizun's chief disciple."
"Did you declare that yourself? Hey, you should go to Shizun to prepare a seal. Get it framed and hang it on the wall for offerings, otherwise, you wouldn't be able to live up to the title of Chief Disciple."
With a snap, Xue Meng broke his chopsticks.
Shi Mei hurriedly tried to settle the argument happening beside him: "Stop fighting. Hurry up and eat."
Xue Meng: ". . . hmph."
Mo Yan smilingly imitated him, "Hmph."
Xue Meng was furious and slammed his hands down on the table: "How dare you!"
Seeing the situation escalating, Shi Mei tried to calm Xue Meng down: "Young Master, so many people are watching. Let's eat. Don't argue."
These two people were incompatible. Although they are cousins, they always bicker whenever they met each other. After Shi Mei talked down Xue Meng, he was bitterly caught in the middle to ease the atmosphere, trying to talk to both sides.
A moment later, he asked Xue Meng: "Young Master, when will Madam's cat give birth to her kitten?"
Xue Meng replied: "Oh, you mean A-Ri? My mother was wrong, it's not pregnant, It just eats too much and looks like it has a big belly."
Shi Mei: ". . ."
After a while, he asked Mo Ran: "A-Ran, do you still have to go work with Shizun today?"
"I don't think so. Everything that needed to get done is done. I'll help you copy the sect rules today."
Shi Mei smiled: "Why do you want to help me? You still have to copy them a hundred times."
Xue Meng raised his eyebrows and looked a little surprised at Shi Mei; he had never received a punishment before: "Why do you have to copy the rules?"
Shi Mei looked embarrassed, Before he had time to speak, the buzzing conversation in the dining hall suddenly fell silent. The three of them turned their heads and saw Chu Wanning fluttering into Meng Po Hall in white robes. He walked expressionlessly to the kitchen cabinet and began to grab some dim sum.
In a dining hall with 1000 people inside, when Chu Wanning entered, it went as silent as a cemetery. All the disciples awkwardly played with their food. If any did start to speak, they did it extremely softly.
Shi Mei sighed softly, looking at Chu Wanning holding his tray, sitting in his usual corner, eating congee silently. He couldn’t help saying: “You know, I think Shizun can be quite pitiful sometimes."
Mo Ran's eyebrows shot up: "How so?"
"Look; no one goes anywhere near where he's sitting. When he came in, everyone went dead silent. It was okay for them to talk before he showed up, but not once he got here. Doesn't it seem lonely that he doesn't have anyone to talk to?"
Mo Ran snorted: "He's getting what he asked for."
Xue Meng grew angry again: "You dare make fun of Shizun?"
"Where was I making fun of him? I was just telling the truth." Mo Ran put another pan-fried bun in front of Shi Mei. "The only thing that wants to stay by his side is his temper."
"You--!"
Mo Ran playfully looked at Xue Meng with a smile, and sneered: "Don't believe me? If so, go over and sit with Shizun. Don't sit with us."
That one sentence rendered Xue Meng silent.
Even though he respected Chu Wanning, he feared him more than others. Embarrassed and annoyed but unable to argue, he could only kick the legs of the table with his feet with a sulk.
A trace of lazy complacency hung on Mo Ran's face. He glanced at the little Phoenix provocatively, and then glanced at Chu Wanning's body through the crowd.
For some reason, looking at the only white figure in a room of dark blue and silver armour, he suddenly thought of the man who had fallen asleep on the cold metal last night.
Shi Mei was right; Chu Wanning was really pathetic.
But so what? The more pitiful he was, the happier Mo Ran was. Just thinking about it made the smirk on his mouth became even more obvious.
Life flies by.
Chu Wanning never did tell him to go back to Red Lotus Pavilion. Mo Ran's daily chores became scrubbing and washing dishes, feeding the chickens and ducks kept by Madam Wang, and weeding the herb garden. It was much more leisurely.
In the blink of an eye, his one-month confinement period was up.
Today, Madam Wang had called Mo Ran to Danxin Hall. She stroked his head and asked him: "A-Ran, are your wounds healed?"
Mo Ran smiled: "I'm sorry for worrying you. I'm alright now."
"That's good. You should be more careful in the future. Don't make another big mistake and upset your Shizun, alright?"
Mo Ran was particularly good at playing the innocent victim: "I know, auntie."
"One more thing." Madam Wang took out a letter from the small pearwood table. "It's been one year since you've been initiated and it's time for you to take on the responsibility of removing demons. Yesterday your uncle sent a letter by pigeon, specifically asking you to go down the mountain to complete this task once your punishment was done."
In the list of rules of Life-Death Peak, one year after being initiated, disciples must wander through the world to dispel demons.
The disciple's master will accompany them on their first demon removal mission. In addition, the disciple must also invite a fellow disciple to go with them in order to let the disciples support each other and understand why "loyalty is a lesson, life and death changes for no one."
Mo Ran's eyes lit up. He took the request letter, tore it open and read it in a hurry, beaming with joy.
Madam Wang worried: "A-Ran, your uncle wants you to have a famous first battle. Therefore, you've got a lot of responsibilty. Although Elder Yuheng has a high level of cultivation, he is ruthless in a fight and he may not be able to protect you very well. You can't be too cocky and underestimate your opponent."
"No, no!" Mo Ran repeatedly waved his hands, grinning. "Don't worry, Auntie. I can take care of myself." After saying that, he was ready to go pack.
"This child. . ." Madam Wang looked at him from behind, her gentle and beautiful face full of worry. "How can he be so happy after receiving this kind of task?"
How could Mo Ran not be happy?
The demon removal mission that his uncle gave him occurred in Caidie Town and was entrusted by a local clerk named Chen.
Regardless of what kind of ghosts there were, the key thing was what happened in his previous life. It was in Caidie Town where he was bewitched by demons, lost his mind, and forcibly kissed Shi Mei under their illusion. It was also one of the few times that Mo Ran had been so close, which was really soul-crushing.
Moreover, because he was bewitched, Shi Mei couldn't find it genuine. It was all for nothing! He hadn't been able to settle things with him afterwards.
Mo Ran's eyes were curved into crescents. Even if he had to do this assignment with Chu Wanning, he didn't mind.
The master can take care of the demons, and when he was on his own, why not enjoy this perfect opportunity?
He invited Shi Mei, reported it to his Shizun, and the three of them rushed all the way to the evil town of Caidie.
This was a town full of flowers. Flower fields stretch for dozens of miles outside the residential area so colourful butterflies were always flying around town, hence the name*.
*(T/N "Caidie" [彩蝶] translates to "bright colour" and "butterfly.")
It was night when the three arrived. At the entrance of the village, drums and music sounded, and a line of musicians dressed in big red clothes blew suona horns and walked out from an alley.
Shi Mei asked curiously: "Is this a wedding? Why is it being done at night?"
Chu Wanning said: "It's a ghost marriage."
A ghost marriage, also known as Yin marriage, was a post-death marriage for unmarried men and women who have died. This custom wasn't prominent in poorer regions, but Caidie Town was very wealthy, so it was commonplace to find spouses for boys and girls who have never been married before they died.
The procession of the ghost marriage was incredibly large, divided into two rows, one is carrying real silk and satin, and the other carrying paper ingots. Like this, surrounded by a red and white eight-person sedan chair and the glow of the golden lamp, they filed out of the village.
Mo Ran pulled on his horse's reins, moving off to the side and letting the ghost marriage procession pass first. When the sedan chair approached, he noticed that it wasn't a living person sitting inside, but a ghost bride made with paper mâché. The ghost bride was covered in cream and powder. Her lips were painted bright red, her pale face prominent because of the two dots of blush on her cheeks Her smile was extremely sullen.
"What a dumb tradition. They're just burning money away." Mo Ran muttered under his breath.
Chu Wanning said: "The people of Caidie Town are very concerned about the art of geomancy, and they believe that there should not be a lonely grave at home otherwise the family fortune will be implicated by the lonely ghosts."
". . . Is that a real saying?"
"The townspeople think so."
"Well, yeah. Caidie Town has been here for hundreds of years. If I told them that the evil they believed in doesn't exist, they probably wouldn't be able to accept it."
Shi Mei whispered: "Where's the ghost marriage procession going?"
Chu Wanning explained: "When we came just now, we passed through an earthen temple. The temple was not dedicated to any gods or Buddhas. The lintel still had the word "囍" on it*. The table was piled high with red satin, and they all had a similar message of 'good fortune from heaven' or 'good fortune under the spring' written on them. I think that's where they're going."
*(T/N Pronounced "Xǐ," means "double happiness;" a symbol of good luck, especially for marriages.)
"I also noticed that temple." Shi Mei pondered, "Shizun, is it the Master of Ceremonies Ghost that's enshrined there?"
"Very good."
The Master of Ceremonies Ghost is a folk image of what people believe the god of ghosts looked like. People believe that the deceased soul to marry also need three matchmakers and the six kinds of bridal gifts, the exchange of wedding invitations, but also need to have a master of ceremonies as a witness to recognize two dead people as married.
And because of the customs of a ghost marriage, Caidie Town naturally built a golden statue for the Master of Ceremonies Ghost for the town outside the cemetery in front of the burial site. Before the participants are bound together through the ghost marriage, they must carry the ghost bride to the temple first to worship.
Mo Ran had rarely seen such a ridiculous scene before, watching with great interest, but Chu Wanning only looked at it coldly for a moment. He turned his horse's head, and said: "Let's go and take a look at the infested house."
"Three cultivation masters, my life is really hard! You're here! If no one cares about what's happening, I-I don't even want to live anymore!"
The person who commissioned Life-Death Peak to remove ghosts was the richest merchant in town, Mr. Chen.
The Chen family was in the incense powder business. There were four sons and one daughter in the family. After the eldest son got married, his wife didn’t like the noise at home, so the two of them thought about moving out and establishing their own business. Chen’s family was rich and powerful, so they bought a large piece of land in a secluded part of the northern mountain with a natural hot spring pool, which guests would especially enjoy.
However, on the first day of excavation, some shovels broke ground and a shovel hit a hard object. The eldest daughter-in-law leaned over to take a look, and immediately fainted. On the north mountain, they had dug up a new coffin covered with red lacquer!
Caidie Town was really a mass burial ground. After the death of the town residents, they were all buried there. But this lonely coffin appeared on the North Mountain inexplicably. There was no grave or monument, and the wood of the coffin was blood-red.
They didn't dare dig anymore and quickly put the soil back, but it was too late. Ever since that day, strange things have happened to the Chen family.
"First was my daughter-in-law." Mr. Chen cried. "She was so frightened, it affected her baby and caused a miscarriage. Later, it was my eldest son. He went to the mountains to collect medicine to help his wife, but his feet slipped. He stumbled and fell to the bottom of the mountain. He wasn't breathing by the time we took to find help. . . Ah!" He sighed, choked up and couldn't speak anymore, just waving his hand instead.
Madam Chen also took out a handkerchief and wiped her tears: "My husband is right. A few months after that, our sons had accidents one by one, either going missing or losing their lives - four sons, three are gone!"
Chu Wanning frowned, his gaze sweeping past the Chen family couple and fell on the pale youngest son. He looked about the same age as Mo Ran, fifteen or sixteen years old, good-looking, but fear made his face a little distorted.
Shi Mei asked: "Could you please tell me how the other children. . . went missing?"
"Oh, the second-eldest was on his way to find his brother, and was bitten by a snake. The snake was an ordinary grass snake and isn't venomous. No one thought twice about it at that time, but within a few days, he suddenly collapsed while eating, and then. . . ahhh, my child. . ."
Shi Mei sighed and couldn't bear to ask: "Then, did the body show signs of poisoning?"
"Ah, where would the poison come from? Our family must be cursed! The first few sons are gone, and the next one is the youngest! The next one is the youngest!"
Chu Wanning frowned. His eyes struck Madam Chen like lightning, and he asked: "How do you know that the youngest will be the next one? Why not yourself? Is this ghost only killing men?"
The youngest son of the Chen family was hunched there; his legs were trembling, and his eyes were swollen like peaches. When he opened his mouth, his voice was shrill and distorted: "It's me! It's me! I know it! The person in the red coffin is here!" He's here! Daoist Master, Daoist Master, help me! Daoist Master, help me!"
Talking about his emotions, he began to lose control, and he rushed over to hold Chu Wanning's thigh.
Chu Wanning, who didn't like contact with strangers, immediately avoided it and raised her head to stare at Mr. and Madam Chen: "What's going on?"
The couple looked at each other and said with a quivering voice: "There is a place in this house, we-we dare not go again - the Daoist Master will know when he sees it. It's truly evil, it's really-"
Chu Wanning interrupted: "Where?"
The couple hesitated for a while, stretched out their hands, and shakingly pointed to the shrine room where the ancestors were enshrined in the house: "It's there. . ."
Chu Wanning took the lead and went over, followed by Mo Ran and Shi Mei, with the Chen family following far behind.
Pushing open the door, the interior resembled a joss house where some large families would offer sacrifices to gods and ancestors. There were several rows of spiritual sigils densely arranged, with pale, tall candles burning on both sides.
All the tablets in the room were engraved, painted in yellow, with the names of the deceased and their position in the family.
These spirit tablets are very well written, showing ancestral so and so's great heavenly spirit, and so and so's heavenly spirit.
But only the spirit tablet in the middle, the words on it were not carved then painted in, but a line of words written in a brilliant red:
The spirit of Chen Yanji.
Master Yang. Chen Sunshi.
Perhaps the Chen family hiding behind the Taoist chief was a fluke. They looked at the ancestral hall where the white silk was flying timidly, only to see the words painted in blood on the tablet again, and suddenly collapsed.
Mrs. Chen howled. Her younger son's face shared its colour with a corpse.
This memorial tablet, firstly, was written improperly, and secondly, the characters on the memorial tablet were crooked and twisted, resembling a ghost sigil written by someone when they were half-asleep, and the scribbles were almost unrecognizable.
Shi Mei turned his head and asked: "Who is Chen Yanji?"
The youngest son of the Chen family was crying behind him, shaking and saying, "Yes, it's me."
Mr. Chen cried and said, "Daoist, this is what it looks like. Since the second-eldest went there, we have discovered. . . that there was an extra spiritual sign in the ancestral temple, and the sign was actually the name of a living person in our family. As soon as the name appeared, within seven days, that person would suffer misfortune! When the youngest's name appeared on the tablet, I shut him in the house, and the door was covered with incense ashes. I invited people to try and cast spells on it. I tried everything. But on the seventh day! He was still dead. . . for no reason, just like that!"
The more he talked, the more excited he became, but the more he talked, the more scared he got, and he knelt down with a thump: "I, Chen, have never done anything in my life that would hurt God. Why did God treat me like this! Why!"
Shi Mei looked sad, and hurriedly went to comfort the crying old man, while raising his head and softly shouted: "Shizun, look at this. . ."
Chu Wanning didn't turn around. He was still looking at the spirit sign with great interest as if a flower could bloom on the spirit sign.
Suddenly, Chu Wanning asked, "Master Yang, Chen Sunshi; is it talking about you, Madam Chen?"
[T/N Hello! Sorry about this chapter taking so long. My family is moving and I've been helping them do that plus a wedding I was in so it's been busy. Things should be calmer now so it shouldn't take this long for the next one!]
