“The little owl family” (Part 3)
(RZ!Michael Myers x GNReader)
Summary: your and your little sister’s life had an 180° turn when your parents got into a severe car crash, dying on the spot. You, being already past 18 had to figure out how to keep things afloat and give yourself, specially your sister, a good future. And you did! It was hard but you did it and became the absolute hero in the little girl’s eyes. People would often involuntary smile at the dynamic of your two, so wholesome and supportive, the perfect family bond.Bond that a certain Boogeyman noticed as well…
Warnings: typical mentions of murder, Mikey being obsessive and violent.
Word Count: 4k. (Sorry for so much text- )
Additional info: Gender Neutral reader. (S/N) = sister’s name.
(Part 1) (Part 2) (Part 4) (Part 5) (Part 6)
Both siblings have returned home after making a visit to the plice station. (Y/N) was a bit moody but mostly relieved that the police finally listened. They already visited the station, the day after finding the dinosaur drawing, but of course everyone thought they were crazy for freaking out over a scrible, saying that maybe some teens saw them around the Myers house and decided to prank them. They had non of it yet couldn't do much, the only advice the cop gave them was to close the doors and keep the inside of the house private.
Now however, when the police heard (S/N)'s testimony that's when they took it more serious. Sure, the probability of it being some dumbass dressing up to be funny was there, yet it worth checking just in case, specially when knowing that the real Michael Myers kidnapped his sister. And who knows, maybe he'll do the same but with some random child...
—"(Y/N)..."—
(S/N)'s gentle voice shut all overwhelming thoughts inside (Y/N)'s mind. They slowly put the knife next to the cooking board and look at their sister.
—"What is it songbird? Still scared?"—
The girl fidgets with her fingers a bit while staring on the tiled kitchen floor. Eventually she sighs and her arms drop.
—"I'm sorry..."—
(Y/N) blinks a couple of times, confused with their sudden apology.
—"Sorry? For what?"— you ask, genuinely confused.
—"For starting all this mess... I think Terry is right, I'm just a scaredy cat that overreacted."— she says, her expression guilty.
Their eyes widened slightly, they walk over to their sister and kneel in front of her.
—"You did nothing wrong sweetheart, you actually did the right thing! The police is there to help, to protect us."— you say softly as you cup her cheek. —"And you better get ready because tomorrow I'll say Terry some not-so-nice things to that goblin so he leaves you alone."—
—"It's... It's not about Terry anymore, it's about you (Y/N)."— she lowers her gaze even more. —"I- I don't like how much you have to worry now, and it's all because of me! If-... If I just stayed quiet, if I didn't ask to see that dumb old house we would be okay and happy, and we would be able to celebrate Halloween!... I ruined it all I- "—
Before (S/N) could continue with her rant, her sibling wraps their arms around her form tightly, holding her close in silence for a few seconds.
—"I said you did nothing wrong. This situation could've happe to anyone, and we got the unluky number. I know you're worried about me and I admit that I may not be at my best state, but it will pass eventually and everything will be right again."— you lean back a bit, your gaze warm. —"We just need to hold on a bit, until the police catches that scary man. I'm sure it will be soon."—
(S/N), more calm, nods as she wipes the little tears that were threatning to slide down her cheeks.
—"Was that man Michael Myers?... Is he the Boogeyman?..."—
(Y/N)'s body goes stiff as they think what to answer. They haven't told their sister about the stranger's identity, not wanting to scare her even further but it seems like (S/N) started to figure out the whole situation by herself.
—"I-... I don't know."— you sigh, but she doesn't seem convinced. —"Myers is supposed to be in the asylum and- "—
—"He escaped... Did he?"— she glances at you.
After a little pause, their sibling nods, their expression a bit sad, even ashamed for trying to keep her oblivious. But the girl had no anger or resentment in her eyes, but a desire to know.
—"What did he do so everyone are so scared of him?..."—
—"I'm... I'm not sure you want to know that... Long story short; very scary and bad things."—
—"What things? Please tell me (Y/N)! I promise I won't get scared!"— she begs you in a childish tone.
(Y/N) remains quiet, thinking. Eventually they sigh and stand up.
—"You better take a sit, I'll go get you a poptart."— you simply say.
The girl gets a little spine chill, both excited and worried about what her sibling is about to tell her. Ones the girl took her sit on the dining table and was munching the sweet treat, (Y/N) starts speaking while resuming their cooking.
—"Last year, a few days before Halloween, all grown up Michael Myers escaped. He killed people while doing it, and not in a pretty way..."—
(S/N) freezes mid bite.
—"K-Killed?..."—
—"Yes... Killed. One of the victims was one of his caretakers, a sweet old man that was there since he was a kid..."—
(Y/N) could see how physically uncomfortable their sister got, even if the details of how he killed him weren't mentioned. They began to feel bad for the little girl and were ready to stop the 'story telling', but the girl proved to be tougher than expected.
—"And what happened after he escaped?..."—
—"He... He tracked his little sister, that is now a teen. He murdered her adoptive parents, a friend and then kiddnapped her, nearly killing her as well in the process. The sister survived though, and Michael Myers supposedly died when she shot him, but as we can see he didn't..."—
The little girl listens quietly, taking in the information and shrinking on her sit every second, the munched poptart still untouched in her shaky hands.
—"Is he... Is he coming to kills us?"— she finally asks.
There are a few seconds of silence, until (Y/N) breaks it, their tone loud, strict, cold... Yet burning with anger and determination.
—"I won't allow it."— and you meant it. —"If he dares to come, I will break every single limb of his. He's not touching you while I'm still breathing."—
Such tone took (S/N) off guard, she never saw her sibling be so cold and serious about anything.
—"But... But what if he hurts you?..."—
—"He won't. Mom and dad won't allow him."— you reply with a softer tone and then turn towards her. —"Even if they're not here, they still taking care of us. We'll be okay, songbird. I promise."— you smile.
The girl remains silent, observing their expression to see if they're just pretending, but (Y/N)'s look and words seemed genuine. She eventually smiles back with a toothy grin.
—"You're right! Bet the ghost of mom and dad are going to haunt him if he dares to come!"—
—"Oh they definetely will! Dad was scary but angry mom was even scarier!"—
And the dull atmosphere from before vanished in a blink of an eye, the siblings talking about random topic which would make them either laugh or argue. The tunes coming out from the speaker only made their afternoon even better, singing or even dancing, anything to keep the dark thoughts away.
But of course, they weren't enjoying it alone. The dark presence was outside, hiding in the shadows. Even though he couldn't see (Y/N) through the windows anymore, due to the curtains they strictly maintained closed, their tone alone was enough to make him feel the same adrenaline spike, his chest heavy with some sort of excitement. The way their cold voice managed to penetrate and shake every single bone and muscle inside of him was an indescribable feeling, yet so, so adicting. They knew who he is, the atrocities he commited and how much of a threat he is, yet they made it clear how many fucks they give about it, only worrying about the safety of the little one.
And now... Now that the atmosphere inside of the house changed, so did his mood. The way they both laughed, chanted, danced... Every single interaction between these two radiated with warmth, warmth strong enough to keep the crude outside world away from their little happy home.
From their little happy family...
Happy family...
He should be envious of them, he should be mad at them for having what he could never have, she should try to destroy it, to destroy the both of them so he stops feeling bad...!
But... He doesn't. He doesn't feel bad at all, none of these negative and destructive feelings are haunting him, not ones. It's the oposite, he actually feels warmth whenever he observes them, some alien coziness that unknowingly to him would make his body relax and gaze soft. He's not sure why he feels like this, but he can't deny the fact that if feels good... Peaceful, he feels at peace for ones in his wretched life.
He should be content with that, with what he has it should be enough, it should... But he knows that his mind will crave for more...
And it's only a matter of time before he loses control.
. . .
October 28th.
The last couple of days been pretty uneventful, the 'Boogeyman' wasn't mentioned anymore and didn't appear ones, even the owl family resumed their carefree lifestyle and were already teaching their babies to fly!
But unfortunately, tonight the siblings couldn't observe the birds due to a hard storm outside. Rain, wind, thunder, you named it all.
(S/N) was in (Y/N)'s room, she was quite scared of thunders so of course she would ask to sleep with their sibling who, unlike the young one, was probably having the best sleep of their life.
The bed was quite wide so they both fit without any issue, each one with their own blanket.
At some point though, a particulary loud thunder resonated, which made (S/N) cuddle closed to (Y/N). The mentioned sibling woke up due the loud sound but thought nothing of it, ready to close their eyes and go back to sleep.
But suddenly, an alarming feeling striked in their gut. Something felt wrong, is the air colder? Heavier? Is their heartbeat too loud? Is the house too silent? It's hard to tell what exactply isn't right, but they know something is.
They suddenly sit up, their eyes wide and staring at the door. The little girl felt the sudden movement and also sit up, though her form sleepy and confused.
—"Uh?... What's wrong?"— she mumbles before yawning.
—"...I don't know."— you reply, still staring at the door.
The girl blinks a couple of times and also looks at the door. They both remain in this position completely still, barely breathing, until a very faint thud resonated somewhere downstairs. Sure, the noise could mean whatever, but the sense of dread inside of (Y/N) only increased, demanding them to take actions.
—"{Songbird.}"— you whisper, your tone urgent. —"{I want you to tiptoe towards the closet and hide in there, do not come out until I say so.}"—
—"{B-But- }"—
She has no time to ask questions because (Y/N) had stand up and was already searching under their bed for something. They eventually find what they've been looking for, a hunting rifle.
They then look up and glance at their sister, who was completely frozen on the bed with a horrified expression.
—"{Just go hide, please. And if things get ugly...}"— you pause, glancing at the door briefly. —"{Then run away, run towards our next house neighbors and ask them to call the police, okay?"}—
—"{But (Y/N)!... Y-You-...}"—
They nudge her side gently, silently telling her to stop talking and hide. With a huge effort the girl manages to make her body move again and as quietly as she could she made her way towards the closet, hiding her form inside and gently closing the door.
(Y/N) remained in place, near the bed with the rifle already pointing at the door. For solid five minutes absolutely nothing happened, the wind kept howling, the rain pouring and the thunders striking, but nothing else, there were no more odd sounds inside the hou-
Footsteps, the unmistakable sound of footsteps resonated from the stairs. Whoever was walking was doing it slowly, casually even, as if they owned the place. (Y/N) kept their posture, pre aiming at the door and simply waiting, if the intruder is bold enough to enter into their room they'll shoot without thinking twice. Sure, the idea of killing another human is scary and definetely puts their mind even more on edge, but it's either their and (S/N)'s or the intruder's life.
The footsteps eventually stop right in front of the door. There are another good few minutes of silence but it's suddenly interrupted by a loud and bright thunder, which illuminated the whole room and the hall. And right there, through the door crack, they saw an unmistakable shadow of a human.
With no time to waste and with enough evidence that there is an intruder, (Y/N) pulls the trigger.
BANG!
A faint line of smoke is coming out the rifle, but there was no thud or screams of pain at the other side of the door, nothing.
They remain in position for a while but after not hearing anything, or seeing through the tiny hole they just made, (Y/N) slowly lowers the gun, questioning if there even was someone or it's actually their unhealthy paranoia getting the best of them.
They got their answer when the door practically flew off it's hanles and a giant dark mass charged at them. They try to aim and shoot again but the intruder is way faster and manages to grab the end of the rifle and tilt it up the moment (Y/N) pulls the trigger again, making them shoot at the ceiling.
They both struggle, (Y/N) desperately trying to get the gun free but the intruder is way too strong, he's also big, which makes it nearly impossible to push away.
Realizing that things are actually about to get ugly, they shout.
—"(S/N)! RUN!"—
The closet door swings open and the little girl sprints out the room, quietly crying and extremely scared. The massive stranger stopped for a brief moment when he heard the girl, it was just a moment of stillness that ended up with him practically ripping off the rifle out of (Y/N)'s grasp and throwing it agains the wall with great force.
The next thing they know is that the intruder managed to get to their neck. Ones has a firm hold of it, he stands up to his full height and slams their body against the wall, knocking out any oxygen left in their lungs. It didn't stop (Y/N) from struggling though, doing their best to land a kick on his stomack or the lower (and more painful) parts, yet their attempts were cut short when the stranger began to squeeze their neck with both hands, making their struggles weaker.
Eventually, the lack of oxygen began to affect (Y/N) and their arms drop and their body goes numb. Only when they nearly fainted, is when the stranger lose his grip, not enough to let go but enough to let them breathe as they're kept in place.
Durning this little moment of calm another thunder striked and illuminated the room, allowing them to see the emotionless face of the stranger, staring right into their sould.
—"{Myers...}"— you mouth breathlessly.
A sudden little thud followed by a rubber squeak got their attention. (Y/N)'s eyes wide and fill with terror when they see (S/N) standing in the doorway with a little pile of toys in one arm.
—"Leave them alone! You ugly monster!"—
She exclaims as she throws another toy into Michael's broad back, the toy making little to no harm. The man merely glances over his shoulder, his gaze now focused on her little frame.
—"You're mad at us because we visited your home, are you?! (Y/N) did absolutelly nothing wrong, we went there because of me! I am the guilty one! You should've punish me instead!"—
She exclaims again, tears sliding down her cheeks like rivers yet she didn't care. The girl stood high and threw another toy.
—"Or you want to take them away?! I know you have a little sister too, I- "— she hiccups a bit. —"I can be your new little sister! Please take me! Punish me! B-But please! Please leave (Y/N) alone!"—
The girl ends up desperately sobbing, both scared of the man in front of her and the fact that her sibling may disappear forever. Michael slowly turns towards her as he lets go of (Y/N), their body falling into the floor as they gasp for air.
The man starts to slowly and menacingly walk towards (S/N). The girl suddenly realized the mess she just got herself into as she starts to back away, throwing the rest of her toys at the man in a desperate attempt to slow him down, but all they did is bounce off his body into the floor.
—"W-Wait! Ne-Never mind! I- I ch-changed my mind! I don't want t-to go anywhere!"— she lets out a squeak when her back hit the wall in the hall.
The massive man gets even closer, his shadow making the already dark house even darker, darkness that threatens to engulf anything and never let go. The girl lets out a terrified cry as she shields herself with her hands.
—"(Y/N)!"—
The desperate cry of their name made them regain their conscience quickly, they see Michael Myers being just two feets away from their sister, blocking any escape with his broad figure as he extends his hand towards the little girl. Oh god he's about to strangle her just like he attempted with them!
(S/N) is in danger.
They must save her.
No matter what.
But what both siblings failed to see, was the way Michael moved his arm towards the little girl. His movements where slow and smooth, no aggression reflected in them.
When he was about to brush his finger agains (S/N)'s arm, a spartan-like war cry resonated behind him and something cold was wrapped around his neck. (Y/N) tugs the thick wire back rougly, causing the behemoth to stumble backwards, leaving enough room for (S/N) to escape.
—"RUN GODDAMNIT!"— you yell.
And this time (S/N) listens, sprinting through the stairs as fast as her body allows, leaving the house and not return.
The struggle between Michael and (Y/N) continued, they held tightly into the wire, trying to squeaze it even more while Michael attempted to get them off his back. The man eventually gets the solution and slams his body, back first, agains the wall, but (Y/N) doesn't give up. He repeats this maneuver a couple of times until their grip is lose enough to peel them off him and throw them into the floor.
The fall didn't go well, (Y/N) ended up going face first into the floor, but whatever pain they felt is quickly overshadowed by the adrenaline rushing through their veins. They know they won't be able to kill this monster, they know they're going to die, they know they have no chance, they know... But they refuse to go down so easily.
Durning the struggle, it seems like the man dropped his weapon, which (Y/N) had already grabbed as they stand up again. They hold the knife tightly as they stare into the man’s eyes, blood was leaking through their nose down their chin like a river. And despite this, despite all of these disadvantages, they stand hight and ready to keep fighting.
The killer must think they’re insane for even daring to get back to their feet, that they’re delusional for attempting to fight back… But (Y/N) does not care, not when their most loved one is in danger.
Michael remains completely still, looking at (Y/N)’s form. The moment their eyes made contact again, the same spine chill jolted through his body. The feeling was electrifying, so adictive, it began to intoxicate his mind, his eyes half lidded and breath heavy. He shouldn't be like this, (Y/N)'s eyes should not cause his body to react like that, but he can't help it...
Their eyes... There was no fear on them, only cold rage, a burning determination to protect and fight back. This gaze could be compared to the one of a wild wolf protecting an injured member of their pack.
The sacrifice they were ready to make in order to protect their sister caused Michael to feel a bit of respect towards them... Maybe even admiration, no, obsession. He was obsessed with their eyes, with their voice, with them... He was obsessed with (Y/N).
They both remains still, but eventually, and to their misfortune, Michael makes a move. He charges at them but (Y/N) seemed to learn from their previous mistake as they step aside and make a clear slash on his shoulder, causing the man release a low groan.
They attempt to stab him on the neck but Michael quickly grabs their wrist mid attack and tightly squeezes it, to the point that he felt something pop inside and right after that the knife was released from their grasp. But (Y/N) still refused to give up, this time they attepts to land a hit on his face or grab his mask, attempt that was cut short when Michael pushed them into the floor and practically tackled them.
(Y/N) glares daggers at him, their gaze hateful.
—"Don't you get it you sick fuck?!"— you exclaim, voice full of anger.
Michael only tilts his head, action that only pisses (Y/N) off.
—"I am not stopping, I won't stop fighting, not when my sister is in danger! Not while I'm still breathing!"—
And after these words they start struggling under Michael's large body, as the man himself got entranced with them again. Their bloodied visage looked so beautiful to him for some reason, their eyes filled with hate, not only towards him, but towards everything in the world made his breath shake. If it was any other victim he would be frustrated with such behavior... But not with (Y/N), never with them.
At some point, their struggles began to morph into quiet sobs, desperate and disappointed. They were disappointed with themselves, their helplessness and their inability to protect (S/N), not from this monster. They failed her...
They look away and bite their lip, holding their cries as best as possible, not wanting this beast to see them cry, to give him the joy watching them slowly break. This new picture of (Y/N) caused something inside of Michael's chest squeeze painfully, this new broken and vulnerable (Y/N) was very different from the previous one. It may not cause him the same thrill, but in ignites a new emotion, something he though he lost very, very long ago...
Protectiveness.
The same one he felt when he saw Angel cry, when she cowered away from him before he tried to reveal himself... And even after she tried to escape, he still felt protective of her in his own way... And now he feels it towards (Y/N).
Michael's head then straightens as he began to lean down, closer to them. (Y/N) tries to use their last bits of strength to push him away, slow him down, anything to keep him away from killing them in that same instant. When they feel his large arms wrap around their form, they shut their eyes tightly, expecting to feel pain at any second as he breaks their body limb by limb... But that doesn't happen.
They keep their eyes closed for a solid minute, and when still nothing happen, they open them just to be greeted by Michael's large form holding them in a tight embrace. His body warm despite his clothes being wet, the heat slightly soothing any pain in (Y/N)'s body, but not their mind. Being this close they can feel how powerful and strong Michael's body is, even embraced they can barely move, he could easily break their spine at any moment with enough force if he wanted to...
But (Y/N) had no time to question it or had any strength to push him since the adrenaline started to worn off and their vision and senses to slowly black out.
They're not sure how long Michael held them, but eventually he let go and stood up as the plice sirens got closer. He throws one last glance at (Y/N)'s nearly unconscious form before grabbing his knife and walking away.
But, it wasn't the last time they will see him...
Because the monster inside of him will force him to return…

My Visual Method of Learning Japanese Kanji (漢字) part①
~ Let's Pair-up Similar-lookin' Characters Next to Each Other♥!~
There are many ways to learn Japanese. 📔
This way might not be effective or efficient (or even reasonable) for anyone else, but this is the visual approach that I'm currently developing + sharing for possibly any like-minded students it might resonate with!
【Background】
At first, I did the standard "write it down with repetition until you get it right" on flashcards, notebooks, etc. I don't think I ever got it 'right'ーevery optimistic attempt of "I'm gonna get in some daily lessons in today, and successfully absorb this knowledge!!" was always accompanied with this state of... confusion? and being so, so overwhelmed that neither the meaning, the reading, the stroke order, nor even the appearance of the kanji stuck to me at all. I don't think I've ever made it past the list of N4 kanji, even though most words I come across tend to be scattered around the N3-N1 level.
I've tried studying them strictly in order of the listing / then tried loosely with some doodling / or even a cherry-nitpicky minimalistic approach; just-take-what-is-frequently-used-style... but there just seemed to be no end in sight。
『Issue①:』 I wanted to see ALL of the kanji displayed at once, instead of dreading the 'higher levels' hidden from the limited amount displayed at a time; be it from reference books, screen displays on websites or mobile applications, etc. It's definitely just a personal issue, I think haha I just didn't like the surprise sneak attack from so much identical kanji from differing levels that scrambles my brain everytime I encounter a doppelganger. And boy, there's a LOT of those (as you will see).
I thought about making a series of biiiig posters or scrolls I could stick up on a wall, like those kiddie info posters but completely filled with kanji as decoration + motivation + and a bit of a cheat sheet I could easily access at a glance. But just imagining over 2,000 jumbled characters looming over me while I work on my desk or seeing something like that first thing after waking up………it feels a lot unsettling, I think-
『Issue②:』 They're often arranged according to their frequency of usage, stroke order, or general difficulty of the word. Although it's for practicality, it leaves the visual impact completely all over the place. I don't know if I have any underlying conditions that contribute to something trivial like this greatly bothering me past the point of productivity, but it's not even about aesthetics I have an issue with, I don't think? It's just...the arrangement feels so chaotic, or sometimes oddly restrictive that I keep getting distracted. It's like some kind of puzzle I've been trying to solve for 10 hours straight, but it's just me going in circles back to zero. Speaking of puzzles....
Maybe, to save physical space for literally thousands of characters, I thought about placing one kanji on each of a rubik's cube's faces. But that would take a ridiculous amount of cubes and printer ink/alternatively, manually cutting, pasting, and poorly writing very very tiny 0.5inch labels for...two thousand times, at least. By hand.
I'm still tempted to incorporate this idea in some way, but felt unmotivated and lazy with how flimsy and shoddy my handwritten labels were…also printer ink prices continue to be a goddang scam--
I've unfortunately never been a studious student, especially not when it comes to conventional learning methods. It tends to make me want to try ridiculous ideas to get around my own dysfunctionality, because the other option would be... to continue a system that doesn't work and be frustrated, and accomplish nothing; not even a smile.
Because I was learning Japanese out of my own free will, I wanted to have fun with it, because the whole concept of kanji seems really fun in theory!… but not so much in attempted practice as a clueless outsider with no knowledge apart from the standard English reading and writing system.
Even if perceived as a complete waste of time by a lot of people, I still want to understand each individual character to be able to appreciate and greet them accordingly when I encounter them in the wild.
For fun☆!
【Conventional Systems】
I mostly took inspiration from other existing popular learning systems that many people use:
➊The standard N5-N1 System was alright, but I found myself tempted to skip straight to ~N3 where frequently used characters appeared more, despite being barely at the lowest N5 level myself. I wanted all the characters to be visibly accessible…but it got intensely overwhelming so fast. The hierarchal labeling made finding a N1 character have this weird sense of pressure? Like, "oh sht , this word has N1 kanji. mY ELEMENTARY GRADE DUMBASS AIN'T SUPPOSED TO BE IN HERE--"
➋Then there's pictographs. It's interesting, but I thought a lot of them were a little bit of a reach? haha it's basically a visual mnemonic, right? But other people's mnemonics usually have their 'creative logic' that my own may not agree with, so I just end up getting distracted with the internal logic of the image and how it correlates to the kanji instead of absorbing any actual information. I think it has potential, but I'd need to personalize the visual imagery for it to be effective…or at least, have the mnemonic make enough sense to me and not be abstractly distracting. Even by then, the more strokes there are, the more convoluted it looks to even liken it to anything in the real world...Kanji by itself is already a pictogram, I guess...?
➌Then there's the Heisig method. I liked the concept; the goal is for (mostly) foreigners to easily familiarize the 'look' of the kanji character and attach it to a singular meaning. But personally, it wasn't working with how much my brain was confusing every variation of similar-looking patterns that kept reappearing over a span of different kanji, with the same radical appearing in different positions or orientations. Heisig's compilation was good in a sense that I could see a reoccurring pattern and it was most definitely less chaotic to look at now, but they continue to persist so far away from each other? Then adding that element of "the unknown" with kanji I've yet to encounter or seek out for being 'too advanced' with this doppelganger dilemma was driving me absolutely coconuts.
Plus, since it's a method created with absolute beginners in mind, it falls short with the lack of kun- and on- yomi readings…which were what I needed to learn the most.
I decided to combine these three ideas to make my own way.
【??? Personal System】
This system will continuously be developed from here on out until it can actually be functional, but so far, here's what's been done and being planned:
Apparently these were from 8 months ago good lord-
I pretty much just lined up screenshots of a full kanji listing (I believe it was a Jouyou listing) and just...painstakingly played a Match-3 game, but irl, pretty much... and with more back pain
※Reference used to curate these kanji and their information are primarily from ①an app called 'Satori', and ②another app called 'Yomiwa'. Both apps source information from KANJIDIC and JMDict + mixed with a variety of online dictionaries to cross-reference and check for additional info.
I was working on and off on it because staring at nothing but kanji all day will probably make a few screws loose, but I generally continued anytime I was feeling a little down, stressed out, or just had free time. It was oddly therapeutic when I saw the finished arrangements, though. This feeling of "I can't tell if I like it or hate it" reminded me of my thesis days lmao
I had originally planned to put them on 3x3 rubik's cubes, so I initially had to group them by a full set of 9 characters. But the distribution was so unbalanced that each look-alike group was either lacking or exceeding in numbers, and trying to evenly incorporate 'leftovers' into the other groups just looked forced as hell, visually. So, I gave up on the rubik's cube concept and just tried to match at least a row of just 3 look-alikes to then ascend or descend in complexity with their other cousin-distant-lookalikes.
EXAMPLE:
人 大 木
person・big・tree
▲These three I would consider 'cousins'. I wouldn't classify them together in a row of 3 because there are far more identical characters, but after I gather all of each of their sibling groups, I'd most definitely arrange them next to each other in succession as if the 人 was growing more limbs.
太 大 犬
fat・big・dog
▲These three I would consider 'siblings'.
It reminds me of twins that only have differing beauty marks for distinction.
▲And these...are kinda cursed ngl, my double takes had to do their own double takes everytime I would finish grouping something to the 'tree radical' family, and suddenly spotting another one I could've sworn was the exact same character. It made me feel like I was going insane lol I know that the context showing the connecting hiragana is usually a dead giveaway on which kanji it is, regardless of how similar in appearance + how it's going to be read... but man. It's so surreal seeing them all lined up next to each other?? All I see is a forest-
Somewhere along the way, my brain remembered about the elemental periodic table and drew some layouting inspiration from there, too. Ideally, I would love to have all the information already present at a single glance with each character. But with the limited display space, assigning chronological identification numbers on them for now would help in navigating this wide, colorful kanji blanket.
I might've discarded a couple of archaic / overly complex kanji that no one really uses for this list at this moment, but in total, there appears to be 952 rows of trios.
= A total of 2,856 kanji have been included. Unless I miscounted somewhere-
my back hurts-
【Personal Limits + Goals】
I've been learning Japanese the same way I have Englishーvery, very informally; simply picking up what I hear and read in random places and applying them to how my brain interpreted their usage. It's literally like 'playing by ear', musically? except I'm tone deaf as hell-
There are some words (both Eng and Jp) that I surprise even myself when I know how to say it, or suddenly somehow using it during very specific situations, even if I don't know how to define their exact meaning…or even how to pronounce them correctly. Then there's very basic words that are so foreign to me because I have never heard or seen them before, despite possibly being one of the first things teachers introduce in proper lessons.
I can understand verbal Japanese just OK (some common dialects are recognizable too, just as long as it ain't extreme keigo-), my attempt at constructed sentences is weab-level at best and my butchering of the intonations is an atrocity, but most importantly, I can't read most kanji I come across for the life of me without furigana. Even with it, it's usually too dang small in print to even read…
Basically the nutshell of my 'Japanese Reading Practice with Manga' series orz I was so worried about potential copyright infringements, but I misread everything, it just became transformative on its own--
※ADDITIONAL NOTE: There is the onyomi (Orig. Chinese reading used when compounding the character with another to create a word) and the kunyomi (general Japanese reading of the kanji) that I ranked as the 'most important' thing to learn for me...then there's their long-lost wayward sibling: Nanori for Japanese name readings.
It is a whole new world out there......and I'm good staying indoors, thanks- don't even get me started on kirakira name readings I will cry for those poor unfortunate souls deadass named things like 'PEGASUS' or 'ANGEL LOVE' as their government name good lord
Speaking of names, when I saw Kaedehara Kazuha's name (Genshin Impact) in kanji for the first time :
「楓原万葉」
I read it as "Kazewara Manba"💀he is Manba-kun to me now
ーEven if my overall proficiency is at kindergarten level, for now,
I want to improve at at least recognizing the correct kanji at a regular reading speedーwith no mistaken identities, frantic dictionary pulling-out, or furigana dependency necessary!★
And that's what I want to achieve first and foremost with...whatever this is I'm creating。
+ so I can read manga and novels in peace without constantly squinting at a magnifying glass orz Fluency is kinda moot in my case because... I don't talk to anyone lol-
also, online shtposting in the Jp meme side rly do hit different
〘ーand I'd like colors to accompany me!〙
『Issue③:』 Every Kanji list overview, regardless of arrangement or method, always gives me anxiety with how sharply white and black it is. That minimalistic uniformity forces you to depend on shapes alone to make inferences... but then you see sht like:
土 VS 士
(dirt)・(samurai)
末 VS 未
(tip)・(sign of the sheep)
where it's literally the subtlest of LINE LENGTH, a tiny splotch, or the more complex characters that don't even share the same radicals but because they both vaguely have a similar silhouette, they start looking confusing to the brain, I just...............colors are absolutely necessary!! At least, it is definitely the case for my very easily bamboozled noodle that demands distinctive visual variations. I am in the belief that shapes alone will not suffice to memorize the correct information when you have over 2,000 subjects to sift through that... literally copied each other's homework. They kept gaslighting me throughout the process- Ask a Chinese or Japanese friend today if they're doing ok bc holy sht how do ya'll live like this, especially when web browsers tend to squash anything exceeding 14 strokes at regular display font sizes I-
I made the コロレッテKoroLife System (Kororette Life; a wish for a 'colorful life') that pushes more focus on the creative and productive use of colors and patterns for myself, initially for drawing composition purposes... but I found that it was something just as applicable with making everyday tasks way easier and fun to look at.
It eventually took over this project too, and finally gave me what I was looking forーinner peace with a lifetime of beef and animosity with kanji…but in style★
When I said I was a heavy visual learner... this is exactly what I meant-
So…this is my way of arranging nearly 3,000 kanji by rows of 3 visually identical characters that confuses my dyslexic 外人 dumdum the most + making use of colors for subcategorizing them according to their shapes. And, hey, they make for pretty neat stickers!
⇒[FREE TO DOWNLOAD!]
△contains x4 parts of higher quality of each quadrant (transparent bg) + this huge overview display map...or kanji blanket, however you see it as-
Unfortunately there's very little to make of it apart from a display, but as soon as I add some practicality to this system, I will compile them into the 0+ Resource Shop. For now, please feel free to personally use them however you like~! I'm already sticking 'em everywhere-
I divided them into 6 colored categories according to the character's overall perceived 'shape'*: ・Curves (orange)
・Sparks'n'mix (pink)
・Criss-crossing (dark blue)
・Lines (light blue)
・Cubes (yellow) ・囧メ (violet)
・imperfect matches (green)
Highlighted ones are stand-outs, or visually the easiest to digest (to me anyway).
*these are very arbitrary classifications with flawed, subjective internal logic that has been revised multiple times over. (eg. Even if something has a curve, if I feel like the overall shape has lines that stand out more, then it's in the light blue category instead.)
And with that, I think I'll call it...
The「色々色 / IROIROIRO」 Method!! otherwise known as the 色³ for short!!!
■ 「色」・いろ・(Iro)
➊lit. Color, tint, hue, shade ➋kind, type, variant
■ 「々」・のま・同の字点 / どうのじてん・(noma / dou no jiten)
Kanji repetition mark; placed beside a repeating kanji.
■ 「色色 / 色々」 ・いろ・(Iroiro)
various, all sorts of
■「³」・3乗足す / さんじょうたす・3の立方 / さんのりっほう・(san jyou tasu / san no rihhou)
mathematical term.; Cubed, to the power of 3 pls don't ask me for the actual application specifics, I get a 3/10 average on my math tests-
It's a fun pun! Kinda.
【Preliminary Conclusion】
Is it an effective strategy to master Japanese kanji at all, though? Maybe not. At least, probably not just by this visual display alone. I honestly don't expect anyone else benefitting much from this project, but it personally really reinvigorated me to continue studying Japanese again. It's strange how something that caused me so much feelings of dread and anxiety for the majority of my early teen years, suddenly feels so much fun to work with. All it needed was sleep deprivation, some touch of personalization, and a little bit of color!… ok, well, a lot of color-
It's a complete homebrew, unverified by anyone, and I guess a little insane, but I thought it turned out kinda cool anyway, so I thought I'd share it! What do you think? I'll write up an update about any further developments in this silly lil system the next time. I'm thinking of somehow fitting in all the definitions, readings, stroke orders, and maybe samples of their usage... but also in style★ somehow-
We'll workshop it, even if it takes another additional 8 months!!!
Until then! バイバイ( ̄▽ ̄)/
つづく

More replies~ Not a lot of the short ones today.
Starting off with the thing that was brought up by one of the Anons yesterday…yeah…
Anonymous asked:
reddit cylinder thread?
Anonymous asked:
NOT THE FUCKING CYLINDER THREAD 😭
Anonymous asked:
The thing about the cylinder incident is that so many of the boys can be dumbasses so it could be any of them who gets a…cylinder…stuck in an m&m container
Sooooo for those of you who don’t know, it’s this thread. Truly a manifest of ingenuity and inventiveness lol
Totally agree with the third Anon, this is why I didn’t just say “oh it was definitely (name)”: I don’t trust a lot of the nrc boys not to do this type of shit 😭 amazing
Anonymous asked:
Makes me wonder about what Ortho is like meeting Eric Venue when Vil introduce to him. I can tell it is a happy meeting especially when Vil' father is the only father of the overblot gang to have good relationship to their child. Same goes to Azul's mom once she meets Idia as they even try some food. (Idia having questions on why a sweet mom has someone like Azul who basically done nothing but capitalism) I want to ask what Vil and Idia meeting the Shroud's parents but seems to have small info especially chapter 7 spoiler. Although they would be resentful against their parents. (FOR OBVIOUS REASONS)
Oh Ortho would be super excited. As a little film buff, he is very aware of Eric’s filmography, and he would probably be happy both because he’s meeting Vil-san’s dad and because of his own fanboying. He’ll definitely ask for a photo and an autograph, as if he didn’t just get a permission to call Eric “dad” (he doesn’t call him that so, he’s always Eric Venue-san)
How much I want to see Azul’s mom… I’m not sure if Idia wants to see her, and I’m not sure if Azul wants Idia to see her (he seems like someone who would be afraid that his mom would embarrass him), but Idia is definitely going to meet her one day. And she’s definitely going to feed him while complaining about how both Idia and Azul seem to be such picky eaters >:( But yeah, even though Idia would be overwhelmed, he would definitely address the fact that Azul is too mean for someone who has such a caring mom.
Can’t say anything about the Shrouds, so I won’t comment on the last part for now lol sorry.
Anonymous asked:
If Vil is gonna be part of Idia's life, then so is Rook. There is no way he'll miss a chance to see Vil with the shroud family.
Rook is inside of the STYX’s walls, don’t worry about it. No matter the universe, Rook is always going to be right there by Vil’s side <3
Anonymous asked:
So um I'm wondering if two people your account or is it just one? I'm asking because I see that you use We a lot instead of I so I was just wondering no like hate or unintentional offending (jeez I sound stupid) but genuine confusion
No worries, we get asked this question quite often!
There’s two of us. You can see more info here.

me @the stuff i have to do this week
day 50-56 // 100dop && day 29-35 // 100doc
saturday/sunday: finished lab report and data structures lab, spent what felt like a really long time trying to understand the instructions and distro code for speller.c and wrote lots of notes and some pseudocode for the load function.
monday: finished 2 and a little bit of a 3rd section of chem chapter. wrote drafts for the load, check, and unload functions in speller.c but it's returning the opposite of what i should be getting. ☹️🧐
tuesday: it seems i have to accept that as the semester wears on, my study space will inevitably become very very messy with scrap paper (note to self to sift through them tmr and keep only what i need rn)... finished 2.5 sections of chem chapter but didn't take notes on everything yet (halfway through the chapter whooo 🙌). answered tutorial worksheet. also, for some reason i didn't have to change anything except for some minor things in unload and load and check50 works for everything now???? now all that's left to do is figure out why my size function is not returning the same number as the staff's solution and improve on that dreaded hash function...everything i've tried so far takes longer than the one already in there... 🤔 in my impatience to move on, i started the python lecture (YAY PYTHON 😁💗 i'm so ready to be done with C for now)
wednesday: OMG i wasn't expecting to be able to finish speller today but i DID!!!! i thought it would take me much longer to figure out that hash function - i owe it all to cs50's reddit (and stepping away from it and doing smth else when stuck) 💗💗💗 now i can REALLY enjoy myself w python (my beloved XP) and not have that unfinished problem hanging over my head ☺️ also almost done making notes for the sections covered yesterday and finished 3/4 practice assignments.
thursday: i woke up at 12pm 😑☹️ finished all except 1 section of the assignment bc i haven't covered all of the chapter yet. i haven't even finished taking notes on...several things, it's kind of all over the place and i'm just trying to learn enough to do the assignment and then go back in more detail once i'm done bc that's how bored and overwhelmed i feel rn (did not know it was possible to feel both at the same time until uni XD) 😅 watched a little more of the python lecture even tho i should be prioritizing chem rn... still got the lab report to write and a quiz to do after the assignment 😵💫😑 (it'll be fine, ik, but if i'm being completely honest, it would be soooooo nice if those things could just do themselves and i could download all the info i need into my brain and instantly understand it and be calculator-fast at the math and not make any mistakes 😤)
friday: finished practice assignment, actual assignment, writing all of the lab report except the intro and references, and the python lecture. got through the remainder of the chem chapter but still gotta write notes on it... it was late at night when i got to the python problems and gaaahhhh coding is sm harder on a sleepy brain, i only finished hello.py XD also dunno how much time i'll have to spend on 100doc this weekend but at least i was able to keep up the streak through the weekdays this time!!
saturday/sunday: finished lab report, notes on chem chapter, quiz, and mario.py. am now working on credit.py and uuuggghhh i did not read the instructions carefully for the checksum!!! 😡 i just followed their example but not all credit card numbers are like the one in the example, so...i have to redo and rethink what seems like a lot of stuff so i basically just wasted all of that time getting confused as to why it wasn't working XD aaaannnddd idk if i should be doing this but i keep converting strings to ints back to strings and then back to ints as needed cuz i lovelovelove iterating through strings but also it seems kinda messy? it also feels super weird writing in python after writing in C for a while...

Hey! If you're still doing those character asks (no stress if not!!!), how about Nicky?
Heya baba :D!! Yes, these are still open and thanks for the ask~ <3
Nicky:
Nicky is another character I find very easy to relate and project onto. There's his relationship with his dad of course that reminds me of my mom and I. And being home alone due to work schedules in general. But there's also that strong desire to impress his family! Getting lost in trying to enjoy their interests while not leaving much room to openly explore his own. He, in any timeline, struggles with identity along with emotional vulnerability which feels very realistic. While I think Nicolas may have felt a bit more comfortable opening up, there were still moments where he was unsure like how he knew Glenn was a stranger but somehow familiar or how confused and troubled he was at the thought of his dad maybe being a hell demon in disguise. Sometimes I think Nicky is still feeling lost, never certain about his place in the world. Lots of bottled up frustration at everything that's happened and desperately wanting to make his own path but not wanting to lose anyone by doing so. And yet, he loses people anyway: his mom in one timeline, his dad Glenn faded from his memories temporarily, losing his closest friends, and finally-- Having to leave his own kid alone to keep both Cass and Taylor safe from the chaos that's always nipping at his heels. It all makes me so sad :( Seems like he would have loved to be there for Taylor before! Hope they get to bond more...wishing them happiness! I do wonder why he never like called or wrote a letter or something--probably to be extra safe (along with the memory stuff)? But consider...he has this box in his bedroom full of unsent letters that he writes every year. And they are basically like journal entries--stream of consciousness stuff about his thoughts about Cass and Taylor etc. From talking about an item that for some reason reminded Nicky of them. Or reminiscing some anniversary or date or silly inside joke. And even the first time he taught Taylor how to jump in rain puddles and Cass showed their little guy how to shake rain off like a dog might. They were all drenched and giggling that day, running back home hand-in-hand and Taylor between them. Whenever his emotions start overwhelming him, he rubs at his eyes and calms the swaying flames in his hair and on candles nearby. He carefully places the letters back in that box. Tells himself he'll work up the courage to set up a safe, stealthy plan to send one next year. (He may have some letters written for other people too. Though certain ones are a bit burned). So yeah, Nicky cares very deeply for his loved ones and is intensely protective! I think that's really sweet and cool...and love the soft and silly sides he has too! For the canon and bullied squares, I'm thinking mainly of his friendship with the other boys. I really wish we got more info on how they all interacted together. Though I think all the headcanons about the group dynamic are fun to read and brainstorm too!! Oh yeah!! I know there's the weird only visit hell once thing unless you're demon(?) but for my ideas...I imagine it wasn't always like that so it was easy for his friends to visit and hang out with him there before. But after the betrayal and the fbi getting more persistent, the stipulation came to be for safety reasons. Seems like his relationship with Jodie is rocky at best right now yet Jodie remains protective of him anyway (as shown with him destroying part of the fbi group in anger) so seems reasonable to do.

Hey Kait, I know you must be probably so weary and emotionally drained of hearing our vent requests...and I'm so sorry about that, especially because I'm well...about to do just that. I don't mind if you don't answer this, it's a total info dump. But on the other hand I would be so grateful if you could. I'm sorry for this, it's so selfish, but sometimes I just feel like I've got no one to talk to who might be willing to listen.
But you always listen to us, and I'm so thankful for that.
And you always remind us that the mysmes boys are always here for us too.
Haha;;
...so well,
Here I go.
I live in a family situation I don't really understand.
My parents don't love eachother.
There aren't any real negative issues between them. They just seem so...blank, and unwilling.
I've always thought it must be because they're getting a bit older, 50s, 60s - but there are plenty of older couples who still love eachother deeply.
And the way they should.
But my parents have never looked to be in love. Not at all.
I've never seen them say I love you. I've never seen them hug. I rarely even see them smile to eachother. They're just two people living in the same house, lacking any sort of connection. Not even friends. If they weren't living together, I sometimes doubt they'd even get along in the first place.
It feels like an empty house, and it's always been this way. A weird void between them.
They argue all the time - never like explosive or really angry, just like...disagreements. Only they're constant, and I always flinch when i hear them swear
I've always been weird about swearing, I don't know, I just...hate it.
My dad had a difficult childhood, so that might mean he might feel...uncomfortable? But then why would he even marry in the first place?
I don't know
It's all just so confusing.
Love is a weird taboo in our house. Nobody even says the word. There's nothing between my parents. They never do anything which might even suggest they ever loved eachother. And it's all just so awkward that even I find it difficult to tell my parents I care about them. Even when I was little.
When I was a little kid I don't think I ever noticed anything. I think I must've thought things were normal. Nobody talked about affection, love, so I just must've rolled with it.
It was only as I got older and started watching TV shows where couples were all lovey-dovey that I was like huh?? What!!
I can't really remember, but I'm pretty sure my mind must've been blown lol...
But at the same time, I don't think my little mind could understand it, in some weird way. But I still don't think I ever asked my parents why they weren't like the couples on TV.
Maybe the taboo's just always been ingrained in me; lol?
But anyway. I guess as people get older and into teen years things start getting real, don't they? In terms of like dating and crushes and all.
I don't think I'd ever be able to talk to my parents about things like that. They don't do love. They don't even do affection.
I don't think I even know what it is and it hurts.
What are crushes? What does it feel like to feel a connection to somebody that you can actually feel it inside?
For a while I've been so scared that I might be on the aro-ace spectrum, because I don't want to be. I'm scared, I'm terrified, because all I've ever wanted is to feel love. Real love.
Am I being punished? Is the universe laughing at me??
Am I selfish for wanting something I don't understand and maybe never will?
I don't know if I'm in pain or if I'm just numb, or if I'm just clueless.
Totally clueless. Helpless and absolutely hopeless.
Romantic love is what I've always desperately wanted (um, s*x is a whole different thing, it's...a weird phobia...?? of mine. So...nope...)
I even struggle to make friends. I struggle to bond with people without feeling afraid that they might not care about me, but it's always me who runs away and feels overwhelmed
You know, that might be because my parents don't even look like they're friends either.
Are my struggles actually all connected to my parents??
I thought so until my counsellor said no for some reason, and like...smiled weirdly like it wasn't even a problem.
...
Sometimes I feel like I actually don't know how to feel. Like...anything.
This is so depressing, but the only things I can clearly identify are confusion, anxiety, and fear.
I just want to feel like I can be part of something without having to try so hard. Without people judging me for looking so cold when all I feel is so much shaky anxiety for simply not knowing how to talk to people.
That's...where MysMes comes in.
In comes this group who immediately accepts me, and don't ask any questions - a group who are just so...kind.
And I was so confused. Again.
Yoosung is bright and shamelessly kind and brimming with hope. He's helpful and thoughtful, so smiley, and he's even a stressed college student just like me, haha ..
Zen is uplifting, encouraging and protective.
Saeyoung is bouncy, full of laughs and jokes and unconditionally accepting of everything weird because he's...weird too. He's silly, he's affectionate, and he always makes me feel happier and just...like I'm included in something.
Jaehee's like...an older sister figure to me. She always checks up on us and makes sure we're doing okay. I really like that. I'm not good at taking care of myself, or even being independent.
Jumin and V are kind of the same to me. The only routes I've played so far are Yoosung, Saeyoung and Zen (and Saeran but I'll get to him soon in this...essay lol) Oh no wait, I actually have played V's route, but I never looked at it romantically.
It's more that Jumin and V to me are 'father' figures, as...weird as that must sound.
Jumin is serious and straightforward, he's logical and rational. He always seems to calm me down when I'm feeling a bit like, aaahhh;;;
His comfort and advice is direct and considerate, and I've actually screenshotted a lot of his messages haha; (V's too)
V is the same, only he's comforting in a whole different way. He's poetic, gentle and soft-spoken, yet clear. He's kind, he's wholeheartedly caring.
And that's something I don't think I've ever received from others. I feel like I don't deserve it. Especially if V knew what I was really like and what I really felt inside. But that one chat late at night when he asks what you're doing still awake and you can pick the option where you say you're lonely - which I did - and he comforts you by his unique way of being so eloquent, and saying to imagine your troubles fly away in an imaginary world. I really felt that. I think it made me cry.
...
But - um, Saeran!!
He was what I wanted to get to.
Kait, I know you care about Saeran a lot to, so maybe you'll like this section?? I dont know haha.
So...whenever I first started Another Story and we're introduced to Ray and get to know him, I think the first thing I thought was wow. I felt like he was a mirror image to myself. I just felt immediately and weirdly connected to Ray.
Even though our situations are nothing, nothing alike...I've always felt so close to Ray. To Saeran.
I've read other anon posts who really feel drawn to him too, so that's a bit of comfort I guess.
I really feel him.
I guess it must be because we have exactly the same mindset. In believing we're...really not very valuable to anyone. A lot of the time I feel really worthless, I feel really isolated from the world, I don't understand love and I'm scared I never will.
I wonder if anyone actually cares about me, and this is so stupid, but if somebody ever said oh hey, let's hang out...my mind would be blown. Because I would genuinely, genuinely think, what???!?! Really??!?!?! Somebody actually thought of me? Somebody wants me to be somewhere?!!
And I'd be so, unbearably clingy.
It's so dumb, but sometimes I wonder if Ray understands how I feel.
Suit Saeran shattered me when he burst out. Even though I wanted to help him, his words hammered me to the ground. I'd be too weak to fight back against a force like his.
I don't think I'd be able to heal him. I don't think I'd be able to help Saeran reach his good ending.
Just like I don't think I'll be able to get myself out of this hole.
Sometimes I feel like because I feel so weak and overwhelmed with my own problems, I would never be able to help somebody else with theirs. I'm so selfish and stupid.
Saeran would just be floating in his abyss of darkness and I'd never be able to help him.
GE Saeran is a literal angel to me.
Omg I feel like I'm about to cry -
He's beautiful. He's kind, he's sensitive and loving. He just loves. And loves. And loves.
His AE calls always make me sob.
That one where he says he doesn't matter where you are, what you do or what others say, he still loves you.
And he even loves the ugly parts. But how can he love my ugly parts when I feel so broken?
How can I accept his love when I struggle to understand what love is but desperately, desperately want to?
What if I never understand it?
Saeran would just leave, like nope. This girl just doesn't care.
Aagh
I'm literally about to cry now.
Saeran is the first character, let alone person, I've ever felt attached to. That I've ever wanted to feel connected to.
I feel something, so that's amazing. But what it is, I don't know.
I want to love him. I want to feel it and I want to understand what he's giving me.
It would be wrong to blame my parents, wouldn't it? I shouldn't.
...
If I could, I'd cling to Saeran for dear life, because he's the first thing which has given me hope in a very long time.
But then it all comes full circle with the heartbreak of knowing that he just isn't real.
I can never reach him.
I think the one thing that you need to remember is that the characters that inspire you and make you feel like a person are a part of you. You take all of it; Their lessons, stories, and experiences, live deep in your very heart as you grow up and learn all about yourself as a person. You never stop learning about things. You're supposed to learn something every single day that you didn't know the day before, and that ability shapes us. The willingness to be open to conversations and change is what makes us human in the first place. Stories help us. We identify with a lot of media, see ourselves and the people around us in their journeys, and take what we like and don't like into consideration as we learn.
We learn from them just as we learn from each other, and I think that's the beautiful thing about the media we consume. You can learn a lot about yourself through a character that means everything to you. When you see somebody who you can relate to go through something similar to your struggles, it can give you a boost in confidence. It can help you believe it's possible for you to get through whatever is holding you back. Fear, uncertainty, insecurity, or whatever it is inside you. When it comes down to it, I don't think you should be afraid of your thoughts or feelings. It's okay if you don't really understand yourself yet. You don't have to know everything all the time. In fact, it's okay to make mistakes 'cause you don't know something. It's even okay to figure something out today and then feel like you've found some better answers for yourself later in the future. Be open and willing to work on yourself.
Don't be afraid of any answers you find. You don't need to be afraid of anything you figure out about yourself. I don't think you're broken and I don't think there's anything wrong with you. I think you've gone through some tough things in your life. Trauma can make it hard to face your fears and to think about yourself in any capacity. When it feels like all you've ever had to do is survive, it's hard to just live. When all you know is suffocating hardship, the first taste of knowing what it's like to be something else can be overwhelming and confusing. I've been through that. It's hard to go from hurt to liberation. Nobody ever talks about the messy stuff that's in the middle.
The only person in this world that can reach you and give you the comfort that you need is yourself. There's no magic words that I can say that can take away any of the things that you've been through. If anything, just knowing that you've been able to let out some of these messy feelings in some capacity is a good thing. It's better to let these feelings out even if they don't make sense to you. It's better than letting them fester inside of you and confusion. I'm sure of one thing, though, Saeran loves you. He is warmed by you. He would admire you and think the best of you. Even if you can't think well of yourself, he can think well of you until you're able to believe it. After all, isn't that what you did for him?
You believed in him. Even if you were afraid or you had a hard time getting through all of that trouble in Mint Eye, you were right there for him all that time. You were there with him. Just like he's always going to be there with you even if you can't physically feel him there. Isn't that what he said then? Isn't that his words that he repeated so many times?
It doesn't matter how far apart you are or what comes between you, his love for you will blossom and bloom just like the start of every new season.
Now, dear, self reflection will do you some good. I think the best advice I can offer is to look inward and see how Aromanticism feels to you. It may not be the right definition for you today, but I would feel wrong if I didn't at least offer that to you. Nobody in this world can put a label on the way that you feel or the way that you experience emotions. Only you can define who you are as a person. I just want you to know that you're not being punished. There's nothing wrong with you. If anything, you've gone through a lot of awful things that nobody deserves to go through. Don't think less of yourself because of the trauma you've gone through.
The RFA will always be your family. They'll always be there for you. Always hold that fact close to your chest. It will never change.

Hello, i found your blog while i was researching some info on witchcraft and deitywork. I have NO experience in any of this, however i always found interest in learning about gods, myths, cultures of any kind, gems and herbs and other things that seem to relate to these practices, and after randomly coming across posts regarding these topics many times i've decided to look more into it, maybe even starting to take part in these kind of things. I honestly don't know where to start and i can't find much info so, if you could share maybe your experience as a beginner? What made you take this path or how did you start? Any info, experience, tip would be very helpful. If it doesn't bother you, of course
I want to start this off with thank you so much for the question 😁. It is totally normal to feel confused or frustrated when you are just starting out but stick to it! I have no problem sharing my experience as a beginner but my path and yours are going to be totally different so remember to just follow what interests you.
I didn't really consciously decide to take this path if I'm being honest, it kind of just happened. I experienced (like many) some unsavoury experiences in my childhood and never really felt like the religion I grew up with (Christianity) was there to support me. I felt more suffocated than safe. I was around 12 or 13 when I began exploring alternative forms of spirituality but none of that was the witchcraft I practice today, at 22. I began seeing the things that you mentioned, like gems and herbs, in my mid-teens but never really dove into them. I loved history though and learning about how different cultures viewed the concept of God. It was until a few years ago that I really start to solidify my personal opinion on life, death and the universe. This is also when my "formal" witchcraft practice began.
You asked about my experience as a beginner in witchcraft and to tell you the truth, it kinda sucks (I wish there was a better way to say that lol). You feel so excited about all the things you want to learn and yet you feel like there’s no possible way that you can consume it all. It felt just as overwhelming as it did exciting. Not to mention that I dealt (& still deal) with imposter syndrome all the time. I often felt like I would be ridiculed for my beliefs (& I was) so I hid what I was doing from friends and family. It wasn't until I opened up to some friends about what I believed that I really felt like less of a beginner and more of a novice. The idea of being a beginner felt so uneasy to me, like I didn't really know what I was doing or what I wanted. Once I admitted out-loud that I was practicing witchcraft and explained what I believed in, that's when I felt like I was no longer a beginner who needed guidance but a novice who was starting on their journey. That experience gave me the confidence to move forward and affirmed for me that I was doing what was best for me. I'm not saying you should go tell everyone you know what you’re interested in or doing, I just wanted to say that once you have decided what you want, head towards it as best you can. Be confident in your ability to research, trust your intuition and follow your own path wholeheartedly.
Now here are a few tips which helped me when I was starting:
Read about other people's experiences- a good way to find things that interest you is hear about it from others. People recommend things online all the time so if it interests you, look it up.
Utilize free resources- websites like zlibrary and google are free and you can find a lot of the answers you are looking for if you are willing to dedicate the time.
Approach your practice with a "long-term mindset"- if this is something that you want to last in your life then you can't put impossible standards on yourself or try and make yourself an expert overnight. Consistency is key and everything about this takes time. That's why practitioners who have been practicing for 20+ years are valued in this community (but not always right about everything). The acquisition of knowledge isn’t a race.
Be your own cheerleader- no one is going to sit with you and motivate you to research or to practice. No one will be able to tell you what to do or hold your hand (although mentors do exist and are great resources). You need to be able to have confidence in yourself, trust the decisions you make and fistfight the imposter syndrome (because it hits us all eventually).
Let me know if you are interested in a post dedicated to research topics and I can definitely do that for you. Feel free to send me any more questions and I'll do my best to answer them. I hope this was helpful to you and thank you for your support🖤

AWW TY FOR THE HUGS— AND OKAYY JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE! i saw some in the event too but i didn't understand if you meant separately or together?? lmao— if that's what you mean by wips,, im excited for all of your works your writing is phenomenal and yeah i already fell in love <33 i am curious to see more :) as for my request,, first of all take your time to write it cause you got a life, have other wips to finish and ur imagination + creativity may lack sometimes. so, tyt!! (note: this is kinda long lmao-)
second, it is based of a dream i had because i cannot stop thinking about it yo 😩 modern au, where reader is the younger sister (im a sucker for these pls- obv reader isnt a minor, just a bit younger) of childe's and thoma's best friend, where she is quite shy + gets flustered easily. u aren't good with talking to others so when u first met em u just hid behind ur bro— sadly breaking his heart cause he thought his 2 best bros would have a different effect on u— but no. ajax and thoma were confused and tried to look behind ur bro— but there was no need since you peeked a bit, looking up at them with big timid eyes, while theirs widened. a small, soft hello left your lips, and it was set.
the 2 deemed you as adorable and precious as hell. and breedable lmfaoo
you often saw them coming to your house so they could game with your brother, or heard him talk to them through phone- sometimes they even asked about you and u blushed really hard cause "they asked for me?-" and since they seemed like nice ppl to u, you asked to your bro if you could join them sometimes, either playin at home or going out. u may have developed a crush on them- he was so happy u asked since ur so shy- his besties were perfect 4 u. so, yes. ok next- after days, months of hanging out and stuff, you got closer to them, felt more comfy, even gave em hugs cause u were rlly affectionate. that didnt stop em from teasin u tho, when ur bro wasnt lookin cause u were so easy to fluster. (childe def being the worst out of the 2-) they just couldn't get enough of your cute reactions, so they... kept doing it. ajax's flirty demeanor + thoma's smooth ways = u ded. and all they did was chuckle at that. meanies
then came the big day where u asked them if you could go hang out with them... without ur bro. u told him tho, but he was ok with it cause he trusted them- so u went out and childe came to pick you up and u both went to thoma's place. (or they come to urs and ur bro is gone somewhere?? lmao idk)
it was ur first time bein alone with em so u were a bit overwhelmed- so they tried to calm you down, and u felt better again :) played games etc... then after one of their comments, u went full flustered mode and everything they did to hold themselves back went out of the window, ur cute innocent dress already testing them. so they,, just started ravishing u. they teased u relentlessly, and u just sat there red af cause u weren't used to this much teasing. u were too shy to do anything urself, too inexperienced, so they took those matters in their own hands and... yeah. ur moans so cute they couldn't stop fucking you roughly. filling you with cum. so much cum was dripping down your thighs, but you had no time to focus on that as one kept pounding ur moist, small cunt, and the other fucked your tight ass, both with no intention to stop anytime soon. tears streamed down ur face cause it was so much... but they said you could take more so, it had to be correct, right?
and at the end u all sleep together after mumbling i love yous. because fluff warm,,
SO YEAH- since i mostly included the sfw part ur free to only do the nsfw one?? i tried giving as much info as possible so you have the idea set in ur mind,, now swarm it with urs cause i cant write </3
but yeah it's ur choice i don't wanna make you feel like it's too much or anything 😭😭 once again, tyt with it and pls take care!! AND TRY TO SLEEP A BIT MORE OKAY?? OKAY TY AND HAVE A NICE DAY
I'M SO SORRY THIS TOOK AGES AND I KIND OF WENT OFF OF WHAT YOU SAID BUT CHECK IT OUT HERE BABY <333

Hi! I'm new to the witchy scene and don't know where to start on anything tbh. It's hella overwhelming, esp bc I'm finding planetary stuff v interesting but also incredibly confusing. Any thoughts, suggestions, etc? Any blogs i should follow?? Favorote resources??? Idk. You seem v cool so i figured i would ask. My witchy sideblog is kosherkitchenwitch. 💜💜💜 (im on mobile 24/7 so sorry if you have that info somewhere and im being repetitive!!!)
I usually have a very long winded explanation for this question. Its just hard to write a very short answer because the topic itself describes several life styles and cultures and practices. To really get you started you have to be ok with journeying down a rabbit hole. (This answer by the way is it’s own rabbit hole so get comfortable lol).
Witchcraft is a practice but it’s also very spiritual so it’s definitely one of those things that become a lifestyle and you are forever learning something new. Don’t feel too overwhelmed that it is forever going on cause like its something that expands with everyone’s unique experiences!
I honestly should write a book for beginner witches with tips and exercises but for now I will leave you with this: (Though it’s very long and I apologize, I want to give you something concise to research and start with so that you have someplace to begin instead of just short and concise answers since that still won’t give you a good enough foundation.)
Here’s the top 5 tips I will tell you:
1- Know these Basic Terms
2- Know Yourself
3- Know Your Roots
4- Know Your Local Nature
5- ResourcesBelow I will flesh these points out:
BASIC TERMS
Ok so if we start with point 1, people will always tell you READ READ READ! And honestly that isn’t great advice cause most popular witchcraft books are either written by European people in the 60s and they are outdated as hell or they are full of rigid concepts or appropriation. Like don’t waste your time or stifle yourself diving into the typical witchcraft books cause you might feel like you can only exist in this narrow idea of what magic is and you won’t learn most of your abilities out of an old Scott Cunningham book or god forbid a Silver Ravenwolf published monstrosity.
The books that you would REALLY need eventually are moreso Witchcraft 201 type of books when you are diving into the specifics of practices. This is like for example if you are getting more into herbalism/herbology and now you are investing into books like local herbs or medicinal plants, or now you are getting more into astrology so you are buying books about astrological movements, or books on tarot tips and symbolism, or books like the Crystal Bible for all the esoteric crystal info. But don’t worry about all those books YET cause you are STILL JUST starting out.
However the things you should know are these terms: (also I have given some brief descriptions but please look them up even further lol that is your homework).
MagicKind of too complex to narrow into a definition here but there is a force of the universe and everything that flows within it that can be manipulated by projecting energy outward into the universe. That manipulation is referred to as Magic.
WitchA magical practitioner that uses magic to manifest their goal. Witch does not describe every magical practitioner as there are many from different cultures, but witch tends to describe one that uses magic of nature and the universe in a “grey” way (neither specifically to do good or evil) to bring about their desires.
Wicca/WiccanWicca is a religion founded in the 60s in England. A wiccan is a follower of this religion. They are witches that practice magic from revived practices of pre-christian western europe that fall under the ‘pagan’ umbrella. Not all witches are wiccan though it’s something people get confused over. Popular cultural ideas that are wiccan is the worship of the green god and triple goddess, the wiccan rede, the wheel of the year and also the terms ‘Blessed Be’ or ‘So Mote it Be’.
WizardIn popular culture referred to as a male that practices magic YET that’s cause we live in a dumb gendered society because Witch is gender neutral, anyone can be a witch and wizards/wizardry actually refers to a specific magical practice that includes elements of alchemy and transformation. I like to think of wizardry as the blending of the scientific process and magic.
Closed CulturesMagic exists in every form of the globe and in every aspect of nature but many magical practices/spiritualities or religions that deal with spirits and magic are closed for very obvious reasons that no one should be offended over. For example practices like Shinto or Mugyo have to do with the LAND they are on. Like with Mugyo for example, you literally can not practice this if you are not in Korea cause it has to do with the land itself and the spirits that live on it and the ancestors of korean people. (Theres a blogger on here that’s been raising money for a long time to be able to travel to Korea to do this). In other practices like Hoodoo or Brujera, it was carved out of the oppression of people that lost their roots and reforged a connection to protect themselves and their community from white colonialism/slavery. Indigenous American practices have to do with bonds that animal spirits and ancestors have had with tribes for generations (and also the land they live on) that will lose its context once taken out of the tribe’s culture. I think stumbling upon closed culture territory is very avoidable if you stick to the nature local to you and your roots, plus there are a lot of open cultures to choose from (and the culture that mostly dominates modern western witchcraft which has celtic roots is open to all), but honestly all cultures come from (1) nature, (2) local spirits that you’ve bonded with and (3) your history so you can always build your own magical foundation that will be stronger with your own personal connections instead of seeking something in a closed group. It’s very common when you meet witches from a hereditary line that they have their own unique practice passed down from their family. A lot of witches I know tend to make their own practice outside of a cultural tradition. Some closed folk practices and religions that you might stumble across in America are:
HoodooAfrican American folk spirituality that helped the black diaspora subjected to slave trade and racism find their ancestral roots and protect their community. It uses root work that deals with the roots, dirt and spices they have access to. Though you might see a lot of magic practitioners interchange this term with witchcraft, it exists in it’s own culture and it’s own context outside of witchcraft. This form of magic is closed to nonblack magical practitioners.
VodouIs not interchangable with Hoodoo. Its a religion of Haiti that haitians used to connect with their ancestors and spirits that watch over them.
SanteriaA religion that uses magic and has catholic influences yet the catholic saints are more like guides that help them fulfill magic. They’ve adapted the catholic imagery due to colonialism forcing christianity onto their culture but it was a way to disguise their old gods. (Hoodoo also uses christian tools to disguise their magic).
BrujaA form of folkmagic that can be found in Latinx culture. Just like Hoodoo and EVERY. OTHER. FORM. of FOLKMAGIC culture (just emphasizing these points cause like people do get UPset when you talk about closed cultures when there’s no reason to be) it uses plants and spices that were accessible to the people, they elevate their ancestors with altars, and have their own practices like using eggs for cleansing spells or eggshell powder (cascarilla).
BrauchereiI am UNSURE if this is closed or not but this is a type of magic found in Pennsylvania and in Appalachia due to German settlers. They use the bible too as a conjure book along with diviner rods and magic symbols (like the Haagel). Some people refer to this as “Pow Wow” magic but I feel weird about that for obvious reasons but if you want to do more research on it you can find stuff underneath that term. It has a very Country Aesthetique™ and you might recognize it by the tradition of Hex Signs painted on Pennsylvanian barns or Barnstars as a goodluck charm.*As a personal note I would say almost all folk magic is closed cause like it comes from a specific land, culture and context so it might lose meaning outside of the context unless if you are welcomed within the community and find people to teach you their folk magic secrets. Anyway Magic is EVERYWHERE so this is in no way to discourage you but also its interesting and fun to learn about other magical cultures as long as you don’t try to claim it as your own.General Magic Terms:
Energy WorkRefers to exercises or magic that is purely energy based. Some magic likes to use candles or tools but energy work is just using the body and your own energy.
GroundingA way to center your energy within your body typically through focusing on the connection of your feet or roots into the earth. There are many ways to ground and many places in nature you can ground other than your bare feet on the earth. For example some witches like to do it while their feet is under the waves by the sea, or some witches like to do it on a breezy hill or in front of a lit candle. You just focus on the energy flowing through your body by the environment surrounding you and center this before going into a ritual or casting a spell.
Chakras vs Energy PoolsChakras is a term taken from it’s cultural context and appropriated BUT the concept of Energy Pools is is A LOT of cultures and even creeping it’s way into science due to acupuncture and other therapeutic practices involving pressure points and energy pools being accepted into the mainstream. When doing energy work it’s good to be aware of the various energy pools in our body. (Its important to be familiar with the term Chakras since it’s still widely used so at least you will understand it’s meaning.)This can also be studied forever but I can try to write a brief blurb on it: The feet often obtain our lowest form of energy, the thighs can store emotional trauma and can hold our hidden emotions. The Pelvis is our root and connects us mostly to the physical world (when you do grounding work you can focus here as well as your feet if you feel you are drifting), the womb/bowels is where we have our passionate or lustful energy and that allows us to create. Our stomachs is our influence power and ego, our hearts is our compassion and empathy towards others. Our throats can help us communicate, our hands help us manifest, our third eye helps us with our intuition and dreams and our crown helps us be connected to the universe and receive messages from our guides. When you have physical ailments that are reoccuring in a part of the body you should think if maybe any emotional stress in those areas are contributing to physical sickness. I know the thighs might have more energetic abilities but I learned that they can store emotional trauma cause I used to feel a kind of stiff pain there when I was stressed and my friend who is training to be a yoga instructor told me that emotional trauma gets stored in the hips and thighs. She would give me yin yoga lessons for free to release that tension. Also if you feel you need to be more Compassionate, Confident, Vocal, you can focus on doing energy work in those corresponding areas of the body.
AstrologyThe study of planetary movements and how it effects our lives and the flow of things.
PlanetsKnow the planetary effects on yourself and society INCLUDING Chiron and mathematical points such as Lilith and the Ascendant
Star ChartThe positions of stars and planets when you were born and the strengths and qualities they’ve given you along with karmic lessons you must overcome. Look up your star chart here.
Moon CyclesThe phases of the moon have power to them too. Full is a great time to release energy and manifest things where as new is a great time to begin new plans and cleanse. The moon rules our emotional body and each sign it has a new or full moon in has a lesson for us.
Zodiac Signs and their ElementsEach zodiac sign has a sort of attribute to it. The way we think of the Four Elements as a type of quality, the 12 signs have their own unique qualities as well. Just familiarize yourself with them as best you can and their element. This will come in handy later when you are more familiar with the signs and will understand what it means when certain planets are transiting signs. (Meaning when planets are crossing over a zodiac sign in the sky).
ElementsThe Four elements Earth, Water, Air and Fire are like a quaternic attribute that can be applied to anything. Earth rules the solid form, The physical body and can be thought of as having qualities of structure and providing. Water rules the liquid form, the emotional body and can be thought of as having qualities of nurturing and cleansing. Air rules the gas form, the mind and can be thought of as having qualities of change, innovation and inspiration. Fire rules the energy form, the spirit and can be thought of as creative or explosive. You can apply these qualities to almost any thing such as: Carnelian the stone is Fiery because it possesses qualities of bursts of inspiration and motivation and sometimes sexuality. The Dandelion is very airy because it can spread far due to it’s seeds and its a poofy tuft. I also think the quaternity of the elements adds more flexibility in assigning attributes to things where as the binary is very black and white and I find it confining. (Also reinforcing gender stereotypes but we will get to that later). This quaternity will pop up in many places in your magical research, from the zodiac elements, to the tarot card suits.
Sun cyclesAs the moon has cycles so does the sun. The sun changes the zodiac sign like once a month and these periods of times are usually referred to {zodiac} season for example: ‘Sagittarius Season’ or 'Capricorn Season’ when the sun has lined up with the Sagittarius or Capricorn constellation in our sky. These moments of time also have lessons for us.
SabbatsThe Sabbats are witch holidays that derived from western europe that were revived in the wiccan religion that have to do with the earth and sun’s position throughout the year. Witches celebrate Spring and Autumn equinox and the winter and Summer Solstice. There are also crossquarters for points in between this time like Halloween/Samhain on Oct 31st/Nov 1, Beltane or May Day on May 1, Imbolc on Feb 1st and Lughnasadth on August 1st.
Wheel of the YearThe name for the cycle of sabbats. You can search the tumblr tag to learn a little more on it!
Agrarian CyclesEvery region has their own unique seasonal change and foods and living beings local to their environment. The Wheel of the Year does have Celtic western European roots but you can take the concept of celebrating nature and the seasons and make it secular and apply it to any region and put your own cultural roots into it. Just research your local land and your local farmers almanac and you can get started. Here are a few wheels and concepts taken from other cultures and regions (1)(2).
Bioregional AnimismThis is a fancy term meaning that local nature has it’s own spirit. You should be familiar with your local “magical terroir”. Being connected with nature is important for a witch as nature is where magic can be found. The body itself is a magical conductor but for a witch that does not have a connection to nature, using the body’s energy without any recharging can be draining. Most books on magic are very eurocentric based which does not help magical practitioners or witches that live in other climates that are not four seasonal or temperate. Also there are unique spirits and plants to each environment that can help you with your magic. I will link a post on this later.
SpiritsEntities that are noncorporeal that exist everywhere. Some live on this plane, some live solely on the astral. I feel like dealing with spirits is a Witchy 201 issue so I won’t dive in it here but know that almost everything has a spirit (disclaimer: I am an animist so I believe everything- especially everything living has a spirit), and the more you form friendships with entities like trees, plants, animals and your guides you will gain a stronger practice. I believe for a witchling its best to try to befriend or get to know the spirits of things you can see like local trees, animals, stones etc. Don’t mess with ghosts or astral entities yet haha. (Until you know how to ward and banish)
Spirit GuidesWe all have spirit guides. Whether it be our ancestors looking out for us or some spirits that genuinely like us and want to help us out. You can form a relationship with them to help you succeed in your goals.
Astral PlaneI might not be the best person to define this (your witchy homework is to further do research on all these vocab words I’ve put on here so far lol) but the astral plane is the realm beyond this physical one where dreams, thoughts, spirits all coincide. I think its kind of like a world in between worlds cause you can travel to other worlds within it. You can access it through dreams, trancing, guided meditation or astral projection (when your spirit leaves your body). Other spirits may not be friendly so it’s wise to protect yourself before trying to travel.
Astral ProjectionWhen you project your spirit from your physical body to travel.
Wardinga form of energy work to create a boundary so something won’t cross into your space. It’s like a magical security field.
BanishingTo get rid of an entity or toxic person in your life. It’s seen as a form of cursing since its a long term spell that’s not to the target’s benefit.
Hexing/Jinxing/CursingThere are multiple definitions for these but I define jinx as a quick kind of malicious energy put on someone to cause them bad luck. Like putting energy towards someone to wish they bust their ass going down the stairs and they do. A hex is more aggressive and usually pretty specific since a jinx is just general bad luck. A hex is usually more thought out and you want a specific outcome to happen yet its just general misfortune instead of any real physical harm. A Curse is the most long term and often is difficult to be free of until it’s over. Some curses last lifetimes or can even become generational. Usually you are forever barred from doing something or it reveals something about you to damage your reputation. A curse is often the most damaging out of the three. In Wicca there is the wiccan rede that forbids any negative spell casting but that’s only a rule for wiccans.
BlessingA form of positive spellwork to be casted upon someone. Opposite of hexing obviously lol.
SigilsI believe this has some long history with summoning entities but it’s now usually used to refer to magical symbols a witch can create to store energy or influence something with energy. For example you can carve a sigil in a candle to infuse the candle with a certain energy or put a sigil in your coffee with the creamer or paint a sigil on your nails for glamour magic. You should just search the tumblr tag for sigil.
Use of Masculine and Feminine EnergyUpon your witchy research you will find this binary to describe energy and I personally find it archaic but you should understand the difference despite my personal opinions. Since most are agreeing that referring to something active/fast/powerful is masculine and something passive/slow/nurturing is feminine is problematic, they are now rebranding the binary as “active” and “passive” but in my magical experience I find that active and passive are not great ways to think of energy because its more of a spectrum than a binary. Anything can be active, passive or neutralizing. Fire can be passive when it’s used as lighting to see. Earth can be active when it’s shaking the ground during a quake to form new surfaces. Water can be active when it’s changing topsoil and causing mudslides and floods. Air can be passive when it’s a gentle draft being pushed through a vent. I’d suggest thinking of this type of energy as a spectrum but also its good to know about this too.
The Use of X Witch/WitchcraftYou will definitely find upon your witchy research the use of 'Fire Witch’ or 'Kitchen Witch’ or 'Sea Witchcraft’ or 'Desert Witchcraft’ and to put it simply: Someone who calls them self an X witch basically is defining most of their craft around one aspect that they gravitate the most to wield magic. A LOT of witches however won’t use this because most witches have many aspects of magic they use in their craft so it’s hard to define themselves simply as X witch. However the easiest label most witches like to use deal with the local nature because your local nature usually always defines your magic in someway whether or not you are a City Witch, a Sea Witch, a Desert Witch, Swamp Witch, Mountain Witch, Farm Witch, Prairie Witch, Island Witch etc etc. Usually someone who really sticks to a label of X witch that’s not nature orientated really has a joy of that craft and on a platform like tumblr it’s used to find other witches that practice that. (Don’t feel pressured to pick a label) Other than labels you might find terms like Candle Witchcraft, Tech Witchcraft and Kitchen Witchcraft and those are just categories of witchcraft that have to do with those specific subjects. I sometimes refer to myself as a Cottage Witch (witchcraft that has to do with the home) and a lot of my magic deals with daily rituals at home!
Cottage Witchcraft/WitchMagic that has to do with the home, protecting the home, cleansing, the garden, the kitchen, the bedroom, the bathroom. It’s essentially kitchen/bath/green witchcraft all combined.
Kitchen MagicMagic that has to do specifically with cooking, using herbs in oils and recipes for magical outcomes, recipes as spells. Charming hot cocoa, magical teas.
Bath Magic/ Bath WitchMagic that has to do with the ritual of bathing. Face masks, bath bombs, home made soaps as spells, cleansing the body, infusing scents with intent. Wearing scented creams, lotions, perfumes as spells.
Glamoursa type of illusion magic to influence others to perceive you a certain way. (examples: making yourself invisible to others by spells that make you less noticeable, or making yourself more alluring to grab needed attention, or making yourself more intimidating to avoid confrontation). Glamour magic kind of goes hand in hand with bath magic too.
Green Witch/WitchcraftMagic that has to do with nature and gardening and herbs. Plants are our allies and have spirits that are willing to help us if we nurture them.
HerbologyThe study of plants and their properties
Hedge WitchcraftA form of magical practice that deals with working with spirits and traveling to other worlds for spirit work.
DivinationThe practice of fortune telling. There are MANY different ways to divine which are listed below:
Dream OraclingInterpreting your dreams based on your personal omens and experiences to do shadow work or to interpret omens that might signal something for your future.
Shadow Work (not divination- I’d categorize this as energy work- but I’m putting it here since I mentioned it)The practice of self reflection that’s often followed by meditation or sometimes coinciding with practices of dream oracling, tarot reading or trancing to delve deep within oneself to undo traumas and understand the “shadow” side of our self or our ego.
CartomancyDivination that has to do with reading cards. You can use regular 4 suit playing cards as many card readers do.
TarotThe most used card deck to divine with. There are 5 suits in a tarot deck. The Major arcana are cards in it’s own suit with a stronger symbolic meaning and the minor arcana are suits like hearts, spades etc (But instead cups-water, coins-earth, wands-fire and swords-air assigned an element) that tell an evolutionary story. There are a lot of simple tarot spreads on tumblr to help you get started if you wish to read tarot cards. Tarot tends to give very introspective answers.
LenormandA french style of divining cards using mostly archetypes instead of suits (though some cards are assigned a suit but its kind of irrelevant to the reading).
Oracle DecksCards that only have symbols and no suits. Each oracle deck is very unique from the next! I enjoy using oracle decks for one card draws for daily advice.
PalmistryThe divining technique of using palms to read someone’s qualities and obstacles in life.
RunesI will define them here as the divining practice of using small trinkets, or painted stones with symbols on them to toss and read your future. Some practitioners use bones, some use crystals, some use acorns, some use stones that are painted or carved. One set of runes you will see a lot are the Elder Futhark which is scandinavian (sorry I don’t know exactly from where) symbols that are carved in crystals or stones and read by tossing them.
NumerologyMagical Numbers. Each number has a power to it. You can find your life path number here. Also if you get drawn into the rabbit hole of numerology you should also look up Sacred Geometry.
TasseomancyDivination of reading tea leaves.Other Divination Forms that you can refer to by with less fancy names like Bone reading and flame reading (like with candles), scrying (looking for symbols in mirrors or crystal balls), shufflemancy (music and tech can be used as divination too!)
Tools:
PendulumA weight (usually a crystal or coin) used at the end of a string that’s used to find answers on a grid. (Usually if it swings vertically it means yes and horizontally means no but look up pendulum on the tumblr tag you will find a lot of wonderful examples).
Smoke CleansingEither using incense, a bundle of dried herbs or a twig of a tree or herb to burn to cleanse the air. Rosemary is great for warding along with lemongrass, sage and dragonsblood. Also FYI Some appropriating witches might refer to this as “Smudging” But Smudging is a specific practice of offering smoke to guides of a tribe in indigenous American cultures and it would be bastardizing the practice by referring to any form of smoke cleansing as smudging.
CrystalsSome crystals do have an electrical charge due to their crystaline structure. I am unsure of the specifics and I’ve already wrote too much lol but its a subtle and gentle force many magic practitioners like to use to create energy fields for rituals. They are often used as energy amplifiers and some crystals tend to have different energy than others. (For example lepidolite can help amplify the energy of healing and self love where as fire agate can help amplify the energy of motivation and starting new things).
CauldronUsed for burning loose herbs or cooking things. Large pewter cauldrons tend to be wild expensive so I haven’t seen a lot of witches use them. I typically see smaller ones to burn herbs in. Its a great tool to use in spell crafting when you toss ingredients in a spell to bubble and burn in.
Mortar and PestleTools to help crush herbs and roots into powder
BesomsBroomsticks made from certain twigs that can help cleanse the home with symbolic sweeping. The idea of witches riding on brooms come from a time where witches would put flying ointments made of mandrake or datura on the end of the broom and “ride” them by grinding their genitals on it therefore absorbing the ointment and “tripping” to another plane. Its a way of also acheiving astral projection and “flying” in on others to spy on them or completing tasks on other realms. This is like.. Witchcraft 301 its kind of dangerous please don’t try at home lol.
WandsA tool used to direct energy. If the body is its own source of energy and can conduct energy, the wand helps to focus it’s direction. Most wands have crystals or magical items fused onto it.
CharmA magical item charged with energy to have a purpose. For example a lucky necklace can become a charge if it is charged with the energy to bring luck or prosperity. Charms (unless they are made with a crystal or magical metal) tend to not have their own energetic charge so they constantly need to be recharged by the witch when the energy runs out.
AltarA space to work magic. A witch can have many altars. It really doesn’t need to be fancy. Some witches use their altars to put all of their tools and often the surface is like a grid of their crystals. Some make an altar to an entity or their ancestors and the things they put on it are very specific in order to devote the offering to their ancestor or entity. Some use an altar as a workspace. When I have my own place I will do all three. I have my bedroom altar which the surface is a space I work magic on but the bottom is where I keep my books and crystals. The bathroom and kitchen will have more messy spell crafting altar space where I concoct bath potions or food and the living room will be a very clean and organized altar dedicated to spirit guides. What all altars have in common is that they are sacred spaces so even if its a messy magic working space you still can’t dump whatever on it. Also some altars can be spacious where as some can be inside of an altoid tin box. Some altars can be inside of closets and some can be sprawled across a ground. Some can be set up just for a ritual and some can be forever apart of the living room space. They all just have in common that they are sacred magic spaces.
Ouija BoardA way to contact spirits that are currently around you in your space. The thing is that it doesn’t have a great filter so it’s like Chat Roulette but for spirits and you can get any creep coming in to harass you.
GrimoireBook of a witch where they keep all of their spells, remedies, techniques and magical secrets within.
Animal FamiliarSo I believe (though not sure) that familiars refer to 'familiar spirits’ or spirits that are companions to witches and help them complete tasks. In modern witch media this has been mixed up with the idea of witch’s animal companion. Regardless of the roots of the meaning (I have my own research to do lol!) you should know what a familiar means and that in most cases people will use it to refer to their animal companion though I have seen it in a few contexts to refer to a spirit companion.
Sorry this list is super Extensive but think of this as your Witchcraft 101 homework haha. Witchcraft is something used across many cultures for a long time so there’s a lot to know.
I am unsure if I should elaborate this much on the other points, but knowing me I will haha. Hopefully I can find other posts I’ve written about it to save this from becoming a novel but I will try to keep it brief!
Anyway the next three points is where the magical practice comes in!
2.Know Yourself
You are a magical conductor and have your own unique magic. Every witch is unique. Things that will help you bring out your own magic is knowing yourself and what brings out the best energy in you. You can learn about your magical self by learning about your star chart, your zodiac signs and elements, your life path number and of course your passions or hobbies! You can infuse magic into any practice you can be creative in. If you enjoy cooking there is kitchen witchcraft. If you enjoy make-up there are glamours, if you enjoy singing there is intoning and musical magic. If you don’t like making music but listening there is shufflemancy. If you like sleeping there is dream oracling. No matter how obscure your preferences are you can make magic from it. Even if you spend all day obsessing over fanfiction or fictional characters you can create your own pop culture magic path (I saw a post here once with someone making sailor moon magic a thing it was very cool), even if you just like blogging and putting aesthetics together you can make vision boards on pinterest. The best advice to this 2nd point is GET A MAGIC JOURNAL. Not a grimoire but Journal where you can be messy and just take magical notes. Write your favorite colors, the elements that call out to you, animals that you feel drawn to, your favorite places in nature, your favorite hobbies and how you can put magic into them. Knowing yourself and finding your own unique magic is the first step to being a powerful witch!
3.Know Your Roots
This point can be glossed over but it is an extension of point 2 and will also help going into point 4. This is very important point if your cultural identity bears a lot of meaning to you. Magic can be found anywhere in the world and if you would like to follow a tradition you can definitely find one in your own heritage. Every culture has its own magic and even if you can’t find something specific you can definitely find aspects of your culture that you can make magical! For example: vodou is closed and I am half haitian but theres not much of a way I could access it. Anyway that is fine because I still incorporate a lot of my haitian heritage into my magic, mostly by foods that are native to Haiti, using tropical fruits and roots and sometimes offering of rum to spirits and sometimes intuitively (like I made flower water and my mom commented once thats something that people did in vodou and I was like lol I had no idea I was just making this water..) I am also half French and I use Lenormand to divine with and also like recycle my dad’s fancy wine bottles for oil infusion haha (that’s more of a 'what I have access to’ then a cultural thing tho). Every culture has something special like in witchcraft there is knot magic but if you were chinese you can incorporate that with the chinese knot charms, or for south asian/east african heritage could make sigils on their body with henna or assigning different spice mixes with spells in kitchen magic, or southwest asian/northern african witches using their hookahs to smoke various herbs to help them do shadow work or astral traveling, or afro witches braiding spells into their boxbraids and adorning them with crystal beads for protection or european witches baking spells into bread. Like since this is also a continuation of point 2, this is about how magic relates to you and whatever you are surrounded by. You can make magic yours and incorporate it into your culture!
4. Know your Local Nature
I have spoken ENOUGH on this post haha I am sure I have given you enough reading material for two months but I will link this link here on it.
http://ofcloudsandstars.tumblr.com/post/165455994141/local-witchcraft (read all the links in it too they are all great posts!)
I think on this post I have already spoken enough about nature and how important it is to magic so you understand by now.
5. Resources
Seek out your local metaphysical, new age, crystal or magic shops! Even if you have none you can sometimes find helpful books in used book stores, or find tools in craft stores. Michaels is an incredible franchise that sells potion bottles, labels, crystal beads, edible glitter, pretty journals, things for altars, candles and candle wax and candle making things, JARS, pots for plants, jewelry making kits, mini mirrors and all kinds of things you can use in magic.
Here is my resource tag for more resources
OK THAT WAS A LOT
sorry for the novel, but I hope you will have time to research and start your journey! Good luck with everything! Feel free to shoot any more questions!! °☆.。.:*・

Also, given that this is a question I'm asking myself in regards to Ups and Downs, I'm gonna ask it here, are the toons created with basic knowledge of how to read, write, etc., or does Joey have to teach them?
Hmm, I suppose they do have a sense of understanding when it comes to the concept of words and such. But no, they don’t have any basic knowledge in the slightest regarding education when they’re created other than what they already know as cartoon characters. This quickly becomes apparent to the studio members in the days after the toons are created.
When the studio starts working on rough drafts for poster designs, the three cartoons are first of the few to be shown what had been drawn out so far for their show. The first one of the siblings to see the posters was Boris, who likes the posters but comments on the “funny-looking things” on them. When asked what he means, the wolf isn’t entirely sure of how to describe them other than they look funny. People initially thought Boris was just being… well, Boris, but it doesn’t take long for Bendy and Alice to notice the “funny-looking things” either.
A few minutes later, Henry, Joey, and the gang would eventually realize that the “funny-looking things” the inky siblings had been talking about were the words on the posters (though it doesn’t fully register yet that the trio couldn’t read). This would cause the dancing demon to mutter to himself in a slight mix of surprise and wonder “So this is what words look like!”, and someone (probably Sammy) would scoff and make an offhand remark on how ridiculous it seemed that the toons were instilled with the knowledge of how to throw pies yet couldn’t identify the word “pies” if it was staring them right in the face; it was as if either the three all needed glasses or just couldn’t read a few simple words on a measly little-
And that’s when it clicked.
The crew’s initial reaction to the revelation would be to gawk at one another in dead silence as their minds slowly chewed on that concept before turning their gazes to the toons, who were undeniably confused and a bit concerned with the way everyone was looking at them.
“You…” Henry stopped himself a bit, giving himself time to give verbal clarification of what everyone in the studio was thinking, “You can’t read… can you?”
Bendy blinked in surprise at first and didn’t say anything initially before in a mischievous grin slowly formed on his face and a light chuckle escaped his non-existent throat. “Heh, ‘Can we?’ “ He then turned to Alice and jabbed her playfully with his elbow as chuckles and giggles continued to increase like someone had just told him a rather hilarious joke, “ ‘Can we?’ “
He continued a few seconds longer before his giggling slowly came to a halt, his eyeline dropping to the floor and his brow furrowing almost as if in deep thought. He looked back up at his superiors and tilted his head, genuine feelings of both confusion and curiosity becoming ever so apparent in his inky black pie-cut eyes.
“Can we?”
Joey had to take some time to think over this newfound predicament a bit. A part of him felt the urge to bang his head against the wall for having overlooked such a small yet exceptionally significant detail, but he also felt relieved to have learned about it sooner rather than later (for Bendy and the gang’s sake). If the toons couldn’t read a few words on a poster, he didn’t want to imagine how overwhelmed they’d be feeling if he had just handed them scripts for the show like he planned to do later that day. So from then on, Joey declared that all the episodes Bendy, Boris, and Alice will take part in would be majorly reliant on improv until all three cartoon characters have obtained a basic education.
While most of the studio members were in favor of the idea, others like Sammy Lawrence didn’t really take Joey’s proposal seriously nor saw the point in wasting their time educating the inky siblings. The trio wasn’t exactly certain how to feel about this “education” concept either, but they all decided to make the most of it together as their superiors made it clear that getting one would greatly benefit them in their careers.
If there’s any more info that you’d like to know regarding who teaches them and how fast Bendy, Boris, and Alice are at learning new things, please feel free to let me know; I’d be more than happy to elaborate! I hope this helps!
(Sorry I took so long to answer this; I wanted to go into further detail regarding this topic and may have gotten a little carried away.)
