Liam went live today, to promote the LP Act 3 watchback (which is tomorrow!), as well as talk about...well, anything but himself, because he “talks about himself every day” and aren't we bored with it cause he is! He let us know that he and Tom Felton will be doing a duet of Little Things tomorrow during the watchback, so SOMEONE better put it on here so I can see it and SOB. He did an impression of Roman Kemp doing an impression of Harry Styles (though he didn’t know what Harry was doing tonight): “ummmm, hi, guys,” he said, in a nasally voice and deep register. “It’s not perfect,” he admits, “but I did manage to fool someone the other day!”. Liam also tried other character voices, including Tom Felton, Voldemort, and Mickey Mouse, but he couldn’t do Louis (“I can’t do his voice without listening for a long time”) or Niall (“he doesn’t like my impression of him), but he did sing a bit of “This Town”, as it’s his favorite Niall song! Liam talked some more about his art, and how people get better at it - draw some artistic theory study drawings (“like a glass of water”) and things that you’re comfortable with (“I’m quite comfortable with rats at the moment” can’t wait to see his rendition of Simon Cowell).  His sister Ruth tried to get on the live with him, but to no avail :(, as they had some connection issues (“I didn’t cut my sister off,” he said indignantly. “U did”, Ruth replied in the chat). He also reassured us that he won’t ever stop talking about One Direction (“I’ll be talking about it ‘til the day I roll over”) because it was the best time of his life. It was so good, in fact, that just the other day he went back and rewatched ALL of the One Direction adverts ever made (“because Maya hadn’t seen them all” mhmm sure, keep telling yourself that!). Liam also tweeted about World Children’s Day, posted more pictures of him in his Hugo capsule, and did another zoom call with fans! 

Niall's behind the scenes video from the RAH is out and it's actually an Ashe behind the scenes video and it’s...odd. I mean she's great, but the video is a sequence of discombobulated shots leading up to the day of the Royal Albert Hall show. Favorite parts include: the disconnected captions throughout the video (including the random “Gucci” floating around), Niall and Ashe awkwardly flirting (“you’ve been working out,” she says. “Yeah! Is it good for you?,” Niall laughs) and some studio practice content. We also got some behind the scenes content from Harry’s team: an article about how they shot ‘Falling’! Francois Audouy - a design magazine - walked through the tech of building the set. We got behind the scenes pics- scuba divers on set!- some fun trivia about the piano- it was 100 years old and belonged to starlet Deanna Durbin who died in 2013 at age 91, talk about the Harry's-tattoo inspired paintings they added to it, and we learned that the piano, unfortunately, died that day, as a result of being submerged in water- “the black keys falling (haha) away like broken teeth”. The video itself was shot in heated water with divers on hand to assure everyone’s safety. Harry has also been named one of Brandwatch’s most influential people on twitter, which is quite a feat, considering he’s never ON twitter!

I’ve been going to Coffee Island for over a year now, but somehow I don’t recognize the barista taking my order. Maybe he’s new. He’s probably new. Or he has shifts later in the day (this one doesn’t check out, I’ve literally spent an entire day here). I desperately want to order hot chocolate but the usual Barista, Ruth, isn’t here. Instead, she’s replaced by the new guy, he’s far too handsome to be real. Maybe I’m making him up. I don’t want Hot Barista (he doesn’t have a name tag on, what else am I supposed to call him?) to judge me. I mean what 20 year old man orders hot chocolate in the middle of summer? Me that’s who.

Instead of embarrassing myself I order an iced latte, a classic. Except I actually hate iced lattes, I hate most coffee in general. I’ve thought about just buying hot chocolate from the store, but I can’t even use a microwave correctly (Penelope is constantly making fun of me for it). “Simon! You’re twenty years old! How do you mess it up everytime?” she’ll say. Hot barista gives me my latte and I head out. As I’m walking to my first class, that’s when I notice it. Written in neat, loopy handwriting says, “You’re brew-tiful!”. I have to stop just so I can admire just how beautiful the handwriting is (this causes a few angry businessmen to throw expletives at me). The pun is atrocious, but I don’t hate it.

Just the thought of Hot Barista thinking I’m “brew-tiful” makes my insides flip.

I don’t have class today. Normally I’d be glad, but I’m a little upset that I don’t have an excuse to go to the coffee shop. I need to see Hot Barista. He keeps my heart beating, the blood pumping through my veins. Okay, maybe that’s a little exaggerated, but he’s hot, okay! His hair is beautiful, it’s wavy and sits just above his shoulders. And oh God, his FACE. He has a nice face, a very nice face.

Just as I’m about to declare this fine Saturday as Sulk Saturday, Penny’s voice rings out through our flat. “Simon could you please get me a black coffee from Coffee Island? I’ll pay”

Of course I’m ecstatic at the chance to see Hot Barista, but I can’t let penny know that I’m crushing on someone who’s name I don’t even know.

“I mean, I guess I could” I shrug out.

“You’re a lifesaver, Si” Penelope shouts.

I throw on some jeans and a t-shirt and head out the door. I’m halfway down the first set of flights when I realize that I forgot the money, and my shoes. I run back up the stairs to the flat and grab everything I forgot.

I’m practically running to Coffee Island. Am I really this excited to see a barista? The answer to that question is yes, obviously. Who wouldn’t be excited to see Hot Barista? I’m kind of hoping that Ruth is there though, just so I can get my hot chocolate (I want to see Hot Barista more though). The coffee shop isn’t that far so I get there within five minutes. I take a moment to compose myself outside and make sure he’s actually here, which thank God, he is. If there’s a God I’d like to personally thank him for sending an angel down to earth. I open the glass doors and step into the line. It’s a long line, which means I have plenty of time to rehearse what I’m going to say in my head. One black coffee and one iced latte. One black coffee and one iced latte. The line moves unnaturally fast, or maybe I’m just so caught up in my head that I didn’t notice it. It’s my turn and I can already tell I’m going to stutter because my heart is beating so fast and my face is all red. How can someone be so hot yet so cute? Hot Barista has a name tag today. Baz.

“One black coffee and one iced chocolate- I mean iced latte.” Of course I fucking mess up, how fitting. Hot Barista- Baz- smiles. He actually smiles, it’s a closed mouth smile, maybe a smirk, but it still makes my insides twist. If my heart wasn’t already melting then it is now.

I grab the drinks when they’re finished and notice that there’s another pun on my iced latte. “Words cannot espresso how cute you are.” My heart is officially bursting. I walk back to my flat in a daze. When I reach the fourth floor I pull my keys out, only to realize that I don’t have my keys. You have to be kidding me. I rest my head against the door and let out loud sigh. Suddenly the door is being pulled away from me

“Simon I could literally hear you sigh from inside,” Penelope said.

I hand Penny her coffee and head to the kitchen. In the kitchen I dump out my latte (I know okay, a waste of perfectly good coffee, but it’s just so nasty.) and rinse the cup out.

It’s official, today is Sulk Sunday. I don’t have an excuse to see Baz. I could just go to the coffee shop, but why would I go outside if I don’t have to? I’m perfectly content with lazing in the living room with Penny and watching American Horror Story (except I’m not, I desperately want to see Baz). Penny must notice that something is up because the show is being paused and she’s pulling her feet out of my lap.

Simon,”she sighs, “What’s wrong? You keep staring off into space and you’ve been pouting all day.”

“Nothing's wrong, I’m perfectly fine. Great even,” I push my lips into a pout and reach for the remote. Penny jerks her hand back,

“I’m not pressing play until you tell me what’s wrong,” she rolls her eyes, and I look down at my lap.

“Penelope”, I drawl out her name, “Please don’t make me tell you. It’s embarrassing!”

“If I promise not to judge your life choices will you tell me?” Penny looks up at me.

“Fine, I guess,” I turn my body towards her. “There’s this guy at the coffee shop, named Baz, and he keeps writing horrible puns on my cups. Penny it’s so freaking cute,” I take a breath in and hold it, waiting for Penny to respond.

“Simon, that is adorable. You have to talk to him,” Penny is full on smiling now.

“You’re insane if you think I’m actually going to talk to him,” I cross my arms.

“Fine then, I’ll just let you pine relentlessly,” Penny grabs the remote and presses play.

I get ready in record time. I woke up late and barely have time to get my coffee (even if I was late I would still go to Coffee Island, just to see Baz). I think today is the day I order my hot chocolate. Probably not, but one can try.

Unfortunately, when I get to Coffee Island, Baz isn’t there. In his place is Ruth. I order my hot chocolate (they make outstanding hot chocolate, and it’s been too long since I’ve had one) send a text to Penny.

To Penny: Baz wasn’t at Coffee Island today :(. Why is God punishing me?

From Penny: Don’t be dramatic Simon, he probably had the day off.

I only have one class Tuesday, thank God. I have no idea why I thought it would be a good idea to take morning classes, if I could go back in time I would slap myself. To say I’m excited to see Baz is an understatement, I’m buzzing with excitement.

When I arrive at the coffee shop I peer into the window just to make sure he’s here, which he is. I order my coffee, and head out. This time the cup says “I like you a latte”. My insides do the twisty thing.

I’ve been going to the coffee shop everyday this week, Baz is there everyday, aside from Monday. It’s almost like he’s waiting for me to walk in. He smirks when he sees me, and always gives me a horrible pun. The ones I’ve gotten this week (discluding Tuesday) are:

Penny convinced me to go to Coffee Island today, instead of sulking. I’m not sure what I would do without her. I convinced her to go with me because today is the day I finally plan to tell baz that I like him too, with a pun preferably.

“Simon, are you ready to go? I want to see what happens. I can’t believe my bestfriend is getting to live in a cheesy love story,” Penny says.

“Penny I don’t know. I think I’m sick, maybe we shouldn’t go,” I sit down on the couch.

“Nuh-uh Si, we’re going. I will literally drag you out the door if I have to,” Penny walks over to me and extends her arm out.

I grab her hand and stand, “Fine, but if I make a fool of myself it’s your fault!”

We walk to the cafe in silence, Penny has to remind me several times to slow down. I stop in front of the cafe and took a deep breath. Why am I making such a big deal out of this?

“Penny what if he doesn’t like me? What if he’s been writing these puns because he thinks they’re funny, and not because he likes me? Oh god I’m going to humiliate myself,” I cling to Penny’s arm.

“Simon, don’t be stupid. He likes you! I don’t think he would write cute puns telling you you’re cute just because he thinks you’re funny,” Penny rolls her eyes.

I let go of her arm and we step inside. There’s only three people in line so it shouldn’t take very long.

Just as expected, the line moved fast. I stepped up and said the words that could determine my relationship status.

“Hi Baz, I like you a latte too,” I manage to breath out. Baz smiles at me (not a smirk! An actual smile, with teeth). His smile is beautiful, it feels like I’m staring directly into the sun (okay maybe not the sun, but something beautiful).

“I think you just made my day, Simon,” Baz says.

I order an actual hot chocolate this time, and on the cup is a number. Below the number he’s written “Call me?”

3) What would be their favorite physical trait about themselves?

Sarah's favorite trait is also one that secretly causes her a little sadness as well: the fact that she looks very much like her (deceased) mother. She suspects it's one a few reasons why her father (who was never the same after the loss of his wife) distanced himself from her.

11) What is something that would make your character fly into a rage?

Seeing people picked on or bullied is something Sarah can't tolerate, as she was often bullied growing up herself. Because of that and her religious background, she always strives to protect the weak, the needy, and/or the downtrodden (one of the factors that ultimately led her to become a junior deputy).

15) Is there a certain person in this world that they cannot stand? The very mention of this person's name makes them tremble with anger or fear.

At the moment, that 'lucky' individual happens to be one Jacob Seed. After everything he put Sarah through in the Whitetail Mountains (including brainwashing her and attempting to force her to kill Eli), the very thought of him makes her tremble with both anger and fear (...mostly anger, though). She's stayed away from the Whitetail region ever since what happened to Eli - but she knows that sooner or later, she'll have to go back and deal with things one way or the other...

17) Does you character have dreams of getting married and/or having children?

Sarah was engaged once..... it didn't work out. Before and after then, she never received much positive attention from people. Deep down, she'd probably like the thought of giving her heart to the right person and maybe starting a family of her own... but since she's hesitant/afraid to give herself completely to anyone, having been hurt by people before, the thought hasn't really occurred to her as something that's even on the horizon, unfortunately.

20) Does your character like animals? What are some of their favorite animals? Would they want pets? What about mythological creatures?

Sarah definitely likes animals... better than people, sometimes. They do what they need to in order to survive, not necessarily to be cruel or manipulative (for the most part), like people are prone to do. She became fast friends with Boomer, and even though they scared the hell out of her at first she quickly grew to care for Peaches and Cheeseburger as well (and they her, also). Up until 'the Reaping' she hadn't had time for pets, but if things EVER 'settle down', maybe she'd consider one in the future. 

As for mythological creatures, she once read a story in the bible about a dragon and has thought they were kind of neat ever since (Revelations 12, for the curious. Revelations is also Joseph Seed’s ‘favorite’ bible section, remember? Lol). But really, anything imaginative can be fun for her to think about, since she was often ‘encouraged’ (lectured) by her father to concentrate on her studies and not get ‘distracted with trivial things’.

29) What is one of the most courageous things your character has ever done for a loved one?

Unfortunately Sarah doesn’t have too many loved ones, and maybe this isn’t necessarily ‘courageous’, but she once tried to learn sign language to communicate with one of her father’s housekeepers. The woman, Ruth, was deaf, and the small staff of hired help was directed to simply ‘do their job’ and not to ‘distract’ David or Sarah Rook. Sarah took pity on Ruth and, often being lonely herself, used some of her free time to learn to sign. She and Ruth started developing a makeshift friendship, with Ruth even teaching her a few more signs - but Sarah’s father eventually caught onto this and soon replaced Ruth with a different woman who didn’t pay Sarah any mind. Sarah always resented that her father took Ruth away from her, and got her ears pierced as an act of rebellion (the 1st of 3 pairs in her ears. David Rook was not thrilled. Each subsequent pair was done as a different act of defiance - but that’s another story.  ;-) ).

...And of course, she has done many good deeds for the people of Hope County as well.  ^.^

30) When it comes to the arts (music, film, theater, etc), what does your character like?

Sarah didn’t have a lot of people to go to the movies (or theater) with growing up (her mom was gone, father always working, and she didn’t have many friends), so the ones she’s seen, she usually caught on TV. That said, she’s a true ‘geek’ at heart and tends to enjoy ‘the classics’: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, Jurassic Park, the Lord of the Rings movies, Disney movies, superhero movies, etc.

As for music, she enjoys classic/soft rock, and often listens to the music that Wheaty plays on his radio station (though she might enjoy a showtune every now and then... hey, just because she’s never seen it doesn’t mean she’s never heard it). She might not be a disco fan, but will indulge Sharky on the few occasions she lets him drive (lol).

40) Does your OC have any guilty pleasures they enjoy? Hobbies, pastimes, music, etc that they wouldn't want known by others?

Sarah has extensive knowledge of the bible - she was often lonely growing up, and before her mom died she’d encouraged her to turn to ‘the good book’ whenever her heart felt heavy. She hides her religious side from others 1) because she was often picked on about it in school - sometimes very cruelly - and 2) because a certain religious cult in Hope County brings negative connotations to anything related to religion, and she doesn’t want people to misunderstand/misjudge her based on the negative actions of others. Even Pastor Jerome doesn’t know about this side of her - not that she’s worried about him judging her, but she’s just so used to ‘hiding’ that she doesn’t share this part of herself with anyone anymore (so far). She even hides her silver cross necklace (which once belonged to her mother) under her clothing all the time.

When she wasn’t reading the bible, she’d love visiting the picturesque ‘fish church’ in Stamford, CT (real church, to be mentioned in an upcoming chapter of ‘The Book of John‘), or going to the coast (she loves the beauty of the beach and the ocean - one of the things she misses about New England).

43) Does your character have a switch that changes aspects of their personality whether they are around friends, family, etc. Is there someone who gets to see their true self?

As said in the previous answer, Sarah hides her religious side away from others, not wanting to be ostracized (again). Especially nowadays, where she’s finally beginning to make friends in Hope County - friends aren’t something she’s really used to, and she really doesn’t want to risk losing them and being alone all over again. Trust is something she has trouble with, and opening herself up to others is very difficult, so she puts up a tough front and - while joking around and being friendly to others - hides her ‘true self’ away.

The only person she's slowly showing her ‘true self’ to is someone who half-forces it out of her, half-coaxes it out by gradually revealing vulnerabilities of his own (...funny what abducting someone, tying them to a chair, and talking with them at great length can do for your resolve, lol).

Synopsis

John Ritter wanders into the Hardware Store to buy doorknobs and ends up with multiple injuries, thanks to a star-struck Lucy. She brings the star home to rest and then escorts him to a rehearsal for his new play. When Ritter’s co-star suddenly quits, Lucy naturally wants to get into the act.

Guest Cast

John Ritter (Himself) was the son of country singing sensation Tex Ritter. He is best known for playing Jack Tripper on the ABC sitcom “Three's Company” which finished its run two years before his appearance on “Life With Lucy” but was widely syndicated. The role earned him an Emmy and a Golden Globe. He also starred in the ABC cop series “Hooperman” from 1987 to 1989. Ritter was also active in theatre and films. He died suddenly in 2003 at the age of 54. 

Ruth Buzzi (Mrs. Wilcox) is probably best known for her many characters on “Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In” which was competition for “Here's Lucy” for several seasons.  This did not stop Lucille Ball from creating a guest-starring role for her in “My Fair Buzzi” (HL S5;E13) in 1972. She was nominated for five Emmy Awards and won a Golden Globe in 1973.

Greg Mullavey (Randy Van Adams) is probably best remembered for playing hapless husband Tom on “Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman” (1976-77). He made his screen debut in 1964 in the Desilu series “Gomer Pyle: USMC.”

Randy Van Adams is the director of “The Soldier's Song.”

Sally Kemp (Mary) had played Marcia on “Dynasty” from 1982 to 1984. In October 1981 she appeared on an episode of “Three's Company” with John Ritter. She died in 2017 at age 84.  

Mary plays the Nurse in “The Soldier's Song.”

The final draft of the script for this episode was dated August 13, 1986.

This was the fourth episode filmed, but it was decided to air it second in the belief that John Ritter's appearance would help fight a ratings slump after the premiere. It did not work. The show earned a 10.1 share, down from 14.6 the week before. “Life With Lucy” also failed to beat “Downtown” on CBS which earned an 11.9 share, and a two-part “The Facts of Life” on NBC, which won the time slot with 15.6. This was likely due to the fact that it was the first episode for Cloris Leachman, who replaced Charlotte Rae (Mrs. Garrett) as when she quit the hit show. Although not competition for “Life With  Lucy,” the evening of September 27th also saw the debut of NBC's new sitcom “Amen” starring Sherman Hemsley.

John Ritter: (to Lucy) “I just don't think you have enough experience.”

Of all the current [1986] comedic performers, perhaps Lucille Ball's favorite was John Ritter. Ritter died in 2003 of the same heart ailment (an aortic dissection), the same malady that took the life of his father, Tex Ritter, and Lucille Ball in 1989.

Lucille Ball was such a fan of John Ritter that she agreed to host a clips show retrospective called “Best of Three's Company” which aired on May 18, 1982. 

John Ritter: “What difference does age make?”

This episode combines Lucy's love of physical comedy with her usual tropes of causing mayhem and wanting to get into show business.

During the filming of the scene where Lucy force-feeds Ritter a concoction of tofu, wheat germ, and sauerkraut juice (aka “health in a bowl”) Ritter ad-libbed "This is real sauerkraut juice!" His pained expression breaks Ball up, and the scene had to be re-shot. Lucille Ball later said that this was only the third time in her entire career that she had to yell cut because she was laughing. She called Ritter's propensity to make her crack-up 'Ritter-itis'!  

In the book With Love and Laughter, John Ritter author Amy Yasbeck recalls that Ritter called his black knee socks ‘Mr. Mooneys’ because he once saw Gale Gordon's character on “The Lucy Show” wearing them.  

Lucy: (to John Ritter) “I'm Lucy....er... Barker.   almost forgot my own name!”

Lucy Barker is a big fan of John Ritter. To demonstrate her devotion, she says the names of his wife (Nancy) and his children (Jason, Tyler and Carly). She didn't, however, know that his dog's name is Mikey. Actress Nancy Morgan and Ritter were married from 1977 to 1996. At the time of filming Jason was 6, Carly was 4, and Tyler was a year and a half. In 1999, Ritter married actress Amy Yazbeck with whom he had a fourth child Stella, who is now living life as a trans man named Noah.

Mrs. Wilcox (Ruth Buzzi) says she has tickets to John Ritter's play “A Soldier's Song” at the Pasadena Playhouse where he was an alumnus from 1969. Like his mother, Dorothy, Ritter trained at the famed Pasadena Playhouse. Ruth Buzzi was also an alumnus of the Playhouse, a real life venue. 

Ritter says “A Solider's Song” was first produced at the Playhouse in 1926. The play is set during World War I with Ritter playing the title character, a wounded doughboy. A sign mounted on the wall of the set for “A Soldier's Song” sets the action at an American Red Cross Base Hospital in Contrexéville, France. Unfortunately, “Life With Lucy” sign makers misspelled the name of the town as 'Contrexville.' Contrexéville was known as a health resort from as far back as 1864.

Ritter says that his wife is Hawaii with the kids. Hawaii is a popular destination with Lucille Ball and her sitcom characters. Curtis returned from a vacation in Hawaii in the previously aired episode.

Randy: “Look at John. He's a big star and he never knows what he's doing.”

Sitting onstage at the Pasadena Playhouse, Lucy tells the director (Greg Mullavey) that she was in her high school play “The Girl Next Door” where she didn't play the girl next door, but played the girl next door to the girl next door.

As the doughboy in “A Soldier's Song” John Ritter plays “Oh! Susanna” on the harmonica. One of the most familiar songs in America, it was written by Stephen Foster in 1848.

When Mary (the Nurse) quits the play, Randy says that Joan Collins will do the part as a favor to John. Lucy, however, wants to play the part herself. Collins was the star of the tremendously popular nighttime soap “Dynasty” (also on ABC) from 1981 to 1989. In 1984, she hosted “All Star Party for Lucille Ball” (above). Coincidentally, Sally Kemp (Mary, the actress that quit), played Marcia, Blake Carrington’s secretary on “Dynasty” for several years. 

John Ritter: “It's an ugly little story.”

In “Lucy Goes to the Rodeo” (ILL S5;E8) Ricky Ricardo is listing possible acts for his western act at Madison Square Garden and mentions Tex Ritter, who is John Ritter's father. The episode aired in November 1955 when John Ritter was just seven years old.

While feeding him a home-made meal, Lucy calls John “Mr. Ritter.” Lucy Ricardo also fed a man named Mr. Ritter (Edward Everett Horton) in “Lucy Plays Cupid” (ILL S1;E15) in 1952. Both Mr. Ritters find Lucy's food pretty awful!  

Lucille Ball played nurses in the films: Carnival (1935), Room Service (1938), Look Who’s Laughing (1941), and Yours, Mine and Ours (1968).  

Lucy Carmichael and Carol Tilford (Carol Burnett) were in a show-within-the-show in which they also played World War I Red Cross nurses in France. “The Lucy Show” episode was aired in 1967.  

Lucy Carmichael donned nurses whites and wreaked hospital-wide havoc in “Lucy Plays Florence Nightingale” (TLS S2;E14) in 1964.

I am drawn to Jo’s blog, My Chestnut Reading Tree because I too adore mysteries. I don’t review them too often because it’s so hard to not give away the ending when you’ve read a good one! However, if you are looking for a good recomendation Jo’s blog should be one of your firsts places to go to fill up your TBR! You can imagine how excited I was when Joe wanted to participate in my Blogger to Blogger Series. Here’s my chance to find out a little more inside information about the life and reading habits of the woman behind My Chestnut Reading Tree!

Here are Jo’s answers to my 10 questions…

Blogging is universal and even though we inhabit the same community, we don’t always live in the same country. What country do you live in?

I live in a village in Cheshire in the U.K.

What is the view outside your front door?

Most blogs have a fun story of origin. Please share the story behind your blogs name and/or why you started blogging.

My neighbours used to have a beautiful Chestnut tree in their garden which is why our street is called Chestnut Drive. I could see it from my spare bedroom where I used to read in the afternoon as the light was just perfect in there then. So I decided to name my blog after that tree. Unfortunately 6 months later we had new neighbours and the first thing they did was cut the tree down! One morning I walked home from taking my granddaughter to school and it had gone!!

Describe where you write your blog. 

I write my blog at my desk in my old dining room which is now an office although it also shares space with a large treadmill (that has been waiting to be fixed for over a year now!) I have all my bookshelves in that room too.

Most of us have a stack of books sitting next to our couch or bed waiting to be read. What books are in your stack?

I have a pile of blog tour reads and also other ARCs that I keep in my study. There are so many books that I’m desperate to read on these piles but I try to read in date order. Here’s a pic of a few awaiting my attention!

I love a twisty psychological thriller and it is always these I tend to search out if I want to read away the stresses of the day. I also reread Lady of Hay or Kingdom of Shadows by Barbara Erskine if I need some comfort reading.

When you aren’t blogging, how do you spend your time? Work, Play, School?

What don’t I do!? I have 2 jobs in my local primary school where I work everyday as a Welfare Assistant and Lunchtime Supervisor. I also look after my grandchildren before and after school and in the holidays. And I have a little eBay business selling preloved children’s clothing.

What is your favorite blog post you’ve ever written?

My most popular blog post is actually related to question 7 as it was my A Typical Day in the Life of a book blogger post! Here is the link-I only had one of my school jobs at the time so it’s slightly more manic during my day now!

A Typical Day in the Life of a Book Blogger

Have you ever met one of your favorite authors? If so, what did you say to them? Looking back, what do you wish you had said instead?

I’m really lucky in that I have met lots of my favourite authors mostly when I attend Theakstons Crime Writing Festival in Harrogate which I have done for the past 3 years. The one that is probably my favourite though, is when I met Linwood Barclay and had afternoon tea at Betty’s in Harrogate with him and my fellow blogger Sarah Hardy. We were both a bit shy but he put us at ease and we had a fabulous chat for over 2 hours about absolutely everything! And the cakes were pretty good too!

If you could sit down with an author for a slice of cake and a question, who is the author, what kind of cake would you serve, and what is the first question you’d ask?

As you can tell I already think authors and cakes go well together as per question 9! I’m really lucky that I’ve met most of my favourite authors but one that I’ve never met, and would love to, is Amanda Prowse. I would serve my favourite carrot cake or a lemon and blueberry cream sponge and I would ask her first how she manages to look so bloody gorgeous in her Instagram pics even first thing in the morning with no make up on!!! And then I would serve prosecco and ask how her ideas come to her for her novels and tell her that I’ve yet to read one of her books that hasn’t made me cry!

    Jo, apparently you and I share a love for cake!  Lemon and Blueberry cream Sponge cake? YUM! If that cake doesn’t make Amanda Prowse spill all of her secrets to you then I don’t know what would!
