Also would love to know what you think of Lily/&Sirius as well! I can totally see the slight resentment on his part you mentioned but i loveee the letter Harry finds in DH. AND tell me your thoughts on jilypad bc I just need to dig your brain
thank you very much for the ask, pal!
i know this was prompted by me saying - while discussing jily - that my preferred version of lily and sirius' relationship is one in which sirius resents lily for stealing the love of his life [and i don't mean lupin!] away from him. so i think it's worth clarifying what i mean by this:
because i certainly don't think that sirius' resentment towards lily would be overt - i don't think he'd ever be openly hostile towards her, i don't think he'd do anything to undermine james and lily's relationship, and i don't think he'd ever be anything other than sincerely delighted that james was so happy. he evidently values the relationship he has with lily - enough to have kept her letters somewhere he could retrieve after his sojourn in azkaban [the most plausible date of the letter harry finds in deathly hallows is august 1981, which means that we know sirius wasn't living at grimmauld place when it was written. this is something he's stored deliberately, rather than something he had just lying around.] - and i don't propose that he was pretending.
what i think, instead, is that sirius' canonical tendency towards suffering and abiding would make him actively want to cheerlead jily's relationship. he's someone who clearly believes that it's honourable to make sacrifices and that his own happiness is subordinate to the greater good. and while this is all very noble, it's also an enormous - and somewhat toxic - burden for someone like lily to bear.
i like the idea of sirius - much like his narrative mirror, snape - having an extraordinarily idealised view of lily which the real lily struggles to live up to [which provides an interesting watsonian explanation for why he only mentions her once in canon - the doylist reason is just that the series needs to obscure lily's centrality to the mystery for as long as it can, but it's much more fun to imagine that sirius actually knows nothing about the version of lily he didn't construct in his head]. i also like the idea of him struggling constantly with guilt over how he secretly would like to see james and lily split up, so that he could comfort james with tender forehead kisses [and much, much more...]
when it comes to lilypad as something non-platonic, then, my preferred version of the ship is one in which sirius and lily end up together after she survives voldemort's attack [and is, therefore, able to exonerate sirius by revealing that wormtail was the secret keeper] as an extraordinarily unhealthy way of dealing with the earth-shattering weight of their mutual grief. this doesn't mean that i think it would be an abusive or toxic relationship - nor that it couldn't last - but that it would be a... strange and quite melancholy one, haunted constantly by james' ghost.
which means, i suppose, that it's also my preferred version of jilypad. i don't like it as a triad when it's just written as really happy and flawless [well-functioning polygamy takes introspection, and none of these three strike me as possessing that ability...], but i do like it as a mess.

My only issue with the idea that the Fidelius Charm was casted +1 year before their death, is that you're implying it's possible to change Secret Keeper while the charm is still working? Because I always felt like it's such a complex charm that once a decision is made you cannot go back on it and just switch your SK so easily.
But honestly it would explain why Peter never betrayed them before: he literally couldn't... And having people like Bathilda in the secret is safe since she cannot say anything.
Although, I don't know why Dumbledore would lie and say to Fudge the charm was performed a week before their death. Could it be that the "evidence" Dumbledore gave to the Ministry to prove Severus was 'innocent' was the fact he was the one to inform him about Voldemort going after the Potters? Therefore he had to pretend he hid the Potters only after it?
Going back to my timeline though, I think it's possible the Fidelius Charm was actually destroyed when Voldemort's spell backfired. It not only destroyed a part of the house, but the powers behind it also destroyed the charm who was already weakened by the death of the caster AND the death of the people in the secret (I imagine it was something along "The Potters are located X"). It was like a crack in the charm and the explosion of magic that happened here destroyed it.
After all, we actually never know if Dumbledore was the caster of the Fidelius Charm on Grimmauld Place, only that he was the SK. It could have been Snape for example. Except if I forgot, it's never actually stated you can be the caster AND the SK, even if people assume Bill was:
“Fidelius Charm. Dad’s Secret-Keeper. And we’ve done it on this cottage too; I’m Secret-Keeper here."
The fact Bill uses "we" means it's possible Arthur was the caster for Shell Cottage and Bill the caster for the Burrow. Therefore, we can theorize that the death of the caster can weaken the charm or even break it. The only confirmed caster who died was James/Lily, and the charm did break.
I also think Dumbledore was not surprised by what Snape told him because he already knew or found out along the way that he was a DE so obviously he would have told what he heard that night to Voldemort. Dumbledore just didn't know yet what Voldemort would do with it (since he is the kind to think that the prophecy only works if Voldemort gives power to it). Maybe he pushed the Potters and Longbottoms to keep low when their pregnancies were revealed, helping them with casting protections but it's only when he learnt from Severus that the Potters were the target that he decided to suggest the Fidelius Charm-- I am going with the idea that you cannot switch your SK once it was casted in this scenario.
I think it's interesting to see different versions of what we think could have happened. Like, we it's pretty open to interpretation but also we need for the details to make sense which is not always easy with the HP world lmao
Referring to this post.
I don't think you can switch Secret Keepers, I think it was always Peter (for all that year and a half-ish) but that Voldemort actively started to look for them much later. Like, I don't think he really believed in the prophecy until after he died. Talked a bit about this when analyzing Voldemort. I just think Voldemort waited a year+ before attacking the Potters.
I mean, even assuming the Fidelius was cast a year after the prophecy was made (which I don't think is the case), Voldemort knew the prophecy and about the Potters' pregnancy before Harry was born, he had a whole year and a half that he could hunt them down and yet he didn't. That's why I think Peter was always the SK and it was Voldemort who decided not to do anything with this information.
This actually lines up nicely with the Order being whipped out entirely in these final few months leading up to the Potter's deaths after July 1981. If we assume that's the point Voldemort started caring about the prophecy for one reason or another, it would explain the drastic change in behavior since we don't see such killings in this war before that point.
But yeah, all of the first war is pretty up for interpretation and heavily depends on how you view the magical theory behind the Fidelius Charm, cause I don't think the spell backfiring could've been what broke it. We also know it doesn't break when the SK dies from Dumbledore, so it could only break if the secret doesn't exist anymore, which would depend on exactly what was the phrasing of the secret (discussed more here).
So, the only way it makes sense to me is if Harry wasn't included in the spell. Especially since the fact that muggles crowded in suggests they could hear and see the explosion of the house, meaning the charm broke before the spell backfired.
As for why Dumbledore would lie to Fudge, there could be a lot of reasons, from Snape's defense, as you mentioned, to obfuscating the existence of the prophecy and its connection to Harry. There are various possibilities actually.
Like, there aren't really definitive canon answers to the timeline, but that's how I think it went down as it's the only thing that makes sense to me.

The Lestrange couple is actually interesting.
Bellatrix does come from an extremely messed up family. Not only do they behead their slaves after they become too old to carry tea and stuff their heads and hang them on the wall, you know, normal stuff. Then, according to the Black family tree, her father was only 13 when she was born. So you know, clearly healthy stuff. Also, if Filch is to be believed, hanging students days on end by the thumbs was common practice not too long ago from the 90s, and torture instruments are manufactured with enough regularity (I don't believe those things would have survived Fred and George, nor the Marauders).
In his forth year, Arthur was punished badly enough so that he has scars he keeps well into adulthood despite the wonders of magical medicine. (Most scars do fade away after a decade or so, which makes me think the whipping was either extreme or their was some Black Magic involved) for being out of his dorm.
We don't know much about Rodolphus, but his father or uncle was one of the first associates of Tom Riddle, and he would also in all likely hood attended school to taste this kind of extreme discipline that left Arthur scared for life. Also, according to Sirius they were part of a gang of bullies.
So is it any surprise that Voldemort was able to recruit followers who if not violent themselves, where quite desensitized to violence. So, even if Voldemort is extremely sadistic and does not treat his followers well to put it mildly, to people like Bellatrix, it must have seemed not that bad and normal. Also, their hatred for Muggleborn might have also mixed with envy. During the second half of the XXth century, corporal punishment was on the decline, and frankly, six of the best cannot in honesty be compared to the strappado. I would imagine members of these pureblood Slytherin gang of bullies viciously mocking muggleborn students and their inability to keep up with what they would perceive as normal things. It would probably like humiliation through babying, escorting them to "safety" while constantly mocking them:
"Twenty and already dizzy ? How adorable ! Let me take pictures of you. See, we don't hate muggles, we find them so wee!" (proceed to wrap them in frilly stuff before taking pictures).
Is this a response to my post about Severus and Lily? If it isn't, please ignore this whole post lol.
I agree that in the wizarding world, these acts were perceived as normal, as evidenced by the prevalence of bullying and violence that went unpunished and ignored everyone, even by the teachers who were responsible for safeguarding them. Regardless of the gravity of the situation, students were only ever subjected to detention as a form of discipline.
But we must consider that Severus hated the Marauders for bullying him and always tried to persuade Lily to stay away from them for this specific reason. It's understandable that, given his character, he might find it difficult to empathize with others. However, it's still a shame that he couldn't see the similarity between the Marauders and Mulciber's group. If you see your housemate bullying other kids, shouldn't it remind you of your own bullies? I think this situation was also heavily influenced by the house rivalries at Hogwarts.
Severus probably harbored a "serve them right" attitude when Mulciber bullied Mary McDonald, as if attacking a Gryffindor student was a form of avenging his own bullying. This is a childish mindset that many victims adopt, seeking to hurt their bullies by wishing harm on those around them. You may have heard people say things like "I hope your child experiences bullying in the future, then you'll know how it feels" or "I hope your daughter gets cheated on, so you'll feel the pain you caused others." It's the same type of mindset where you can't hurt the bully, so you hope someone they care about gets hurt instead. As someone who was once a victim of bullying, i totally understand why some people might think this way, but I refuse to defend this behaviour as it is wrong in my book.
Hence, I truly believe that even if Severus hadn't called Lily 'Mudblood', their friendship wouldn't have lasted long. Severus cherished Lily because she was the first person to ever show him kindness, and he loved her deeply to the point that he thought she was the only friend he needed. He only cared about his and Lily's well-being (as an individual) He couldn't care less about other Muggle-borns and this didn't sit well with Lily.
Things were already looking bad for Severus. But here's where things got worse. Lily Evans... the only person Severus ever care about... failed to comprehend why Severus refused to let her to associate with the Marauders. In fact, she felt offended by it.
Snape’s whole face contorted and he spluttered, “Saved? Saved? You think he was playing the hero? He was saving his neck and his friends’ too! You’re not going to— I won’t let you— ”
“Let me? Let me?”
Lily’s bright green eyes were slits. Snape backtracked at once.
But we also shouldn't ignore the fact that Severus called everyone(muggleborns) aside from Lily 'Mudblood', which mean she had probably tolerated him a lot, hoping that he would finally get a grip and realised what he was doing was wrong.
But of course, that never happened. Doesn't really help that his only friend wasn't very understanding herself and already had feelings for James even when he was bullying Severus, which was confirmed by JK Rowling herself in an interview. (I mean... why would Severus feel the need to remind Lily that James wasn't a good lad if she wasn't interested in him?)
Interviewer: How did they get together? She hated James, from what we’ve seen.
JKR: Did she really? You’re a woman, you know what I’m saying. [Laughter.]
She was referring to the stereotype that women are attracted to 'bad boys' *puke*
#what was i talking about?#i wrote so much i got confused halfway through#but yeah i do understand why some things are seen as normal#but i'm not defending them#he had a lot of opportunities to learn his mistakes#and she had a lot of opportunities to educate him#she shouldn't have 'tolerated' him#real friends should create boundaries#Severus would be more likely to realize his mistake if Lily were to be tough on him#You're calling other people mudblood? yeah no that's not happening#but what am i saying? lily was as bad a Severus... that will never happen#like how can you fall in love with your friend's bully?#bullying is not hot#can't relate#the whole swm kinda makes sense now#lily literally ignored his whole existence and kinda flirted with James a little#lily is so tolerating but not very understanding at the same time idk how to describe this...#she tried to be understanding but she couldn't help but fell in love with the jerk that bullied his friend#there's just no way to save their friendship here#severus snape#pro snape#pro severus snape#pro severus#lily evans#pro lily evans#platonic snily is so cute but toxic

This is,, a tough question. My go to answer would be Barty but I've been on a bit of a Xenophilius and Peter kick lately and I talk about Barty so much already soooo,, Peter's gonna get some attention for once.
I love Peter so much,, I just,, I fear I relate to him a bit. I think it's also for that reason that I love to imagine what he could have been if things had turned out differently.
The fact that people make him out to not be the rest of the marauders' friend is ridiculous. He's often portrayed in two ways, either he's evil to the core and Sirius, especially for whatever reason but also just all of them in general, never really liked him or he's innocent to some weird degree where he's stupid, everything flies over his head, he only cares about food and he either doesn't understand anything sexual, don't care for it or he's a huge pervert. Peter is seen in canon to enjoy James and Sirius's pranks. He idolised James and Sirius which is never a good building ground for a friendship, but it certainly doesn't suggest that he dislikes them. It's noted in Snape's worst memory (I'm pretty sure that's the one but either way it's in one of the memories Harry sees of them all) that he's laughing and getting all giddy and excited at the idea of tormenting Snape. One can of course interpret this in whatever way but I could see it being two things and likely at the same time. He enjoys the power and he enjoys being part of something bigger but also he enjoys that it's not him (if I had to describe him with one word it would be opportunistic and this is just one of many ways we see that). If he's as heavy, ugly and below average as everyone makes him out to be, he's likely thankful their bullying isn't directed at him (similar to Remus but for different reasons, I feel). Him being a hatstall only adds to this. He's one out of three known hat stalls in the entire history of the sorting hat and it was only after "long deliberation" (aka over five minutes) that he was placed into Gryffindor. So he's likely also very aware of what his relationship with the remaining marauders would have been had he been in Slytherin instead. Also, I will forever fight people who say he doesn't belong in Gryffindor, I firmly believe he does, not because of his death which is often cited as the reason why people consider placing him in Gryffindor the right choice. While many people don't like it, I would argue that switching sides in the middle of a war is a very brave thing to do. From the good/bad perspective the story frames it in it wasn't a good choice, but it was a brave one still, it took a lot of fucking nerve to do that. (Also people are like "well he was a coward, a big part of his character is being a coward". Correct. A person can be more than one thing it's called being put in different situations throughout life). Also one could call his actions regarding switching sides reckless, another lowkey Gryffindor trait if I remember correctly. When it comes to characters and their houses I have so many thoughts like the whole whether Barty was a Ravenclaw or a Slytherin debate. I will never see Barty as a Slytherin, the only reason people do so is because Slytherin=Evil apparently. Speaking of Barty, his "friendship" or whatever you want to call it with Peter is also one people seem to completely gloss over. They spent a significant amount of time together before the 1994/1995 school year, they brewed polyjuice potion together, they attacked Moody together and while sure, you could argue that it was only because of Voldemort's orders I can't help but find it interesting when you add the fact that he also travelled with Voldemort to free Barty from the Imperius curse and to put Barty Sr. under it. It's also Peter who's put in charge of keeping Barty Sr. under the Imperius curse and to look after him while he's under it. (Also that alone makes me think he's not really as dumb and useless as everyone makes him out to be, but that's another thing. This is in no way me saying he's smart tho, just not as dumb as people make him out to be). He's such a complex and interesting character and people just look at him and go "ew, fat evil man"
The fact that that is a rant I've had saved that I was trying to figure out when I'd post jvngjbnejbn anyways, now is the time apparently. Like I said, I think Peter is opportunistic if nothing else. He's grown up seeing the alternative to the situation he's in and he does not like it. He likes winning, he likes being on top and he's willing to risk a lot if not everything to get it. He's brave in the most cowardly manner and him being a hatstall!! I know I've mentioned it already but it just makes so much sense.
I think if Peter saw more security in the good side of the war there was no way he would betray his friends. Where Remus was certain he could not find friends like James, Sirius and Peter elsewhere, Peter was likely persuaded by nice words, appreciation and validation (the things he wanted the most). I'm a sucker for childhood friends Peter and James and I think it would explain their relationship so much. They've known each other since they were around six or seven, a time when you don't necessarily express how much you appreciate your friends. I don't imagine James did at the very least, so when they grew older it didn't cross his mind that that's the sort of thing Peter needed to hear from him. Peter came from a nice family, mum, dad and two older sisters and they all get along—just about the complete opposite of Sirius. By the time James got to know what Sirius was dealing with at home, he was able to give him the validation that he needed. Only Peter needed it too and he instead got to watch Sirius get it. I don't think that was easy for him and I think it was the first rift in the group. I'm not a fan of Peter and Sirius hating each other, after all, it was Sirius who told James to make Peter the secret keeper, but I do think Peter was jealous of Sirius at times and I think both James and Sirius were too emotionally immature for a good bit of their young lives and that made them unable to see Peter's needs.
James matured more than Sirius did when they graduated Hogwarts and had it not been for the war and having a child in the middle of it, I think he would have recognised the warning signs with Peter and they could have mended things.
I recently chatted with some friends about what characters I think have kids and in an ideal universe I think Peter would definitely have kids. He finds a nice, pretty girl and Sirius is in shock when he introduces her to the rest of the group and keeps asking what's wrong with her since he considers her out of Peter's league. Remus and James keep telling him to shut up but when he finds out the girl has a stutter he's all like "aha! I knew something was wrong with her!" and it's a whole thing. They get married at some point and live a cute suburban life together with their two kids—a boy and a girl. His wife likes his friends, some more than others, but there's a lot of "oh my god Pete, please get some better friends/tell them to grow up" after their nice little house has been egged for god knows what time. In a muggle au he drives a blue Prius and works a casual 9-5 and he's quite happy with his life, I think. I think his mum is very involved with his little family (as is the rest of his family tbh) and she's big on keeping family traditions alive. I'm a sucker for half-Danish Peter and they would definitely have a little cookbook of Danish treats, a handful of Danish designs, Danish holiday traditions etc.
As you can tell I uhhh have a lot of Peter thoughts,, he just makes me happy when I get to think about them all being happy together and Harry having little playdates with his kids while he watches something with James and they joke around in the garden while they're grilling and something. At some point I will feature suburban dad Peter in one of my fics istg
I tried to add something happy towards the end jfnbjgnbjg hopefully someone enjoyed this little rant

he has had twelve long years to dwell on his grief , allowing the wound to fester and infect every inch of sirius black's fragile frame . at times his cell had transformed in his mind , had become the warm comfort of the gryffindor common room , his broken mind offering him the sweet comfort of delusion and allowing him to see his best friends in some form of fevered madness . his eyes had sunken in , and at times , sirius found himself speaking to a spectre of james , had imagined his hand against his clammy forehead telling him to go to sleep , to sleep and never awaken again if it means escaping such pain . it was the promise of revenge and the knowledge that harry was out in this world without him which pushed sirius to live on despite the pain which feels tethered to him .
and so this inaction is gaining on him , crawling behind his eyes in the form of migraines , anger , a certain terror which keeps him awake all night ; candles burning into the early hours for a fear of the dark which will haunt him forever . he is glad , to a degree , that severus doesn't rise to it , doesn't allow sirius to take out the near constant , blinding rage upon him . they've done enough to this man , no matter how much he might despise him .
" an accident with a potion ? " he arches a disbelieving brow . severus is a good liar , but sirius is well versed in his abilities . " you're the best potions master hogwarts has ever had , so apologies if i don't believe you . not that i need to know . " he shrugs , rooting around in his pocket for the silver case of hand rolled cigarettes he keeps on him , swiftly lighting and , out of habit , holding them out to the other man in offering .
he is glad that severus doesn't linger on his half arsed apology . there is history between them , long and tainted by the way they treated him — bullied him simply because they were bigger , bolder , and they hated him and the rest of slytherin . he is rooted in his childishness , can barely meet severus' eye but this will have to do .
of course he trusts albus dumbledore ; the man is a genius and has always taken good care of his godson , but the doubts have begun to infect him . " i just hope he has harry's best interests at heart . regardless of the outcome of this war . lily would always put him first , severus . " he knows what james and lily would want , and it isn't for harry to be faced with voldemort once more . it pains him to think of that poor boy clutching cedric diggory's corpse , free of danger only for barty crouch to attack once more . the terror still lives in harry , he sees it when he can bear to look at him . " i understand his reasoning for keeping us in the dark , however harry deserves to know even something of what we are doing here before he dives headfirst into battle with voldemort . "
If Severus were to allow himself to feel much of anything these days, he could possibly understand Black's position where James was concerned. Lily had been the closest thing to a best friend that Severus ever had and losing her --- despite how turbulent their friendship had ended --- was a bitter pill to swallow. He felt like… even more of an empty shell, if that were even possible. The bit of light and hope that once lingered in the shadows of his heart died that night in Godric's Hollow. He could almost imagine Black feeling something similar. James was like a brother to him. Maybe something more once upon a time ( he suspected anyway ). Regardless of what they were, a piece of Black was gone and Harry Potter was but a stark reminder of what was lost.
Snape could ALMOST feel his pain.
Except Severus wasn't allowed to feel pain. Perhaps physical pain, yes, but otherwise pain was obsolete. Being an expert Occlumens came with its fair share of burdens, particularly where Voldemort was concerned. Tom could sniff out sentiment better than most trained Legimens. Severus was tasked with the difficulty of acting the part of one who had undergone the most rigorous of lobotomies from day to day. Anything other than that raised several brows from Tom, and that was never a good thing. It would prompt him to invade your mind in the worst way and while Severus did well to keep him out, resisting him resulted in far worse repercussions than simply allowing him to dig. Severus could tell Black horror stories but he would spare him the various tales from the dark side.
At any rate, he chose not to comment on the matter. James was a touchy subject for them both. Of all the 'squad' so to speak, James had been by far the worse to him followed closely by the one seated before him. But James had always been the ring leader; le meneur of his gallant crew. While Severus loathed James with every fiber of his current and past existence, in Black's case, it was mostly a healthy indifference. And his defense of James didn't tip the scale any closer to something more favorable either.
It is Black's question that catches Snape off guard; that allows another sliver of emotion to seep through the carefully crafted mask of triteness. A limp? And here Severus thought the billowing robe hid the pain well enough. They were on break from Hogwarts which meant he wasn't on display and forced to proceed through the halls each day gritting through the pain to keep up the act. No. Here he could have a small hitch within his performance as few paid careful attention to him when he was about. Aside from Potter, whose keen eye rivaled the Dark Lord's own, no one else had noted anything off about Sev.
Until now.
His first thought is to lie. Why should he divulge any personal hiccups to one who'd sooner see him over a cliff when this was all said and done? It wasn't like Severus to complain about anything let alone seek validation from anyone other than Albus so why bother with truths? But then he had the thought that maybe the truth would be better in hindsight. He was likely to come bursting through the doors in the night far worse for wear than this. May as well let it be known he was quite the punching bag when Tom was having a bad day.
"An accident with a potion," he lied. It slid off of his tongue with practiced ease. The truth, he discovered, was far too difficult for one so proud. He could never tell Black or anyone for that matter, how much Tom had whipped him. He had a trail of scars from the magical whip that would last for days until the potion he concocted kicked in properly.
And he was going to leave promptly, embarrassed beyond words that someone caught him 'slipping'. Yet he found himself pausing in the doorframe, his head slowly turning to look back at Black with a curious gaze that, once again, revealed itself --- if only for a second. He didn't need --- hadn't expected --- ANY form of an apology from Black. God only knows it likely burned the man's insides to spit even that much out. But in an effort to keep things civil and, perhaps, give partial credit to the effort given, for the time being he simply nodded. He was going to keep Harry safe --- that much was definitely certain. If Black couldn't count on anything else, he could at least, sleep well knowing Severus would die for Harry. ( And in all likelihood, it would happen in the end. He was resigned in his fate. )
"Ah, Albus." His tone was quiet, revealing little to nothing of his true feelings on the matter in terms of tone. However, he saw no harm in confirming Black's thoughts. After all, such was a thing that frustrated even Severus at times. "If I were you, I would not take it to heart. I have a feeling he purposely keeps us all in the dark as a failsafe. If one of us knows too much, if captured, that person puts the rest of us at risk. I doubt anyone in this house would sell us out on purpose, but Tom's methods of extracting information are…unpleasant. Many crack as they lay dying. I'm certain at least some of Albus' lack of forthcoming is to protect us all."
And he firmly believed that too except… Except there was more to it than that. Even Severus hated the way Albus kept secrets, but… it would be unwise to complain. Far be it for Sev to be the reason Black blew up at their leader. "There's a method to his madness. I, like many others, can only hope it's truly for the best in the end."

Someone Like A Parent: The Beginning of Bond in POA
I have seen people struggle to understand why Harry sees Sirius as "someone like a parent" in the beginning of GOF and why he reaches out to him about his scar hurting.
There are many, many reasons within the Shrieking Shack chapters of why he attaches himself to Sirius so strongly, to the point he grabs onto his "wasted arm" when Dementors attack in POA climax and think "they weren't going to take him" (brb going to cry about Harry's hunger for father figures)
So let's start with the reason that is easiest to understand:
1. His parents' appointed Sirius as his godfather
Once Sirius' innocence is established, the idea that this man was appointed by Harry's parents is important to Harry. It's a gateway of connection to his dead parents, a longing for whom that permeates the entire 7 books. Harry Potter as a series is largely about Harry coming to terms with his parents' death. Harry even makes this connection - "he had believed he would be living with Sirius from now on...his parents' best friend...It would have been the next best thing to having his own father back."
2. Sirius' dialogue points to message that centers around Harry
...which is not something Harry has ever had before, that the fact he is in danger motivated this skeletal and starved looking man to break out of prison.
"But then I saw Peter in that picture...I realized he was at Hogwarts with Harry...perfectly positioned to act, if one hint reached his ears that the Dark Side was gathering strength again.."
..ready to strike at the moment he could be sure of allies...and to deliver the last Potter to them. if he gave them Harry, who'd dare say he'd betrayed Lord Voldemort? He'd be welcomed back with honors....So you see, I had to do something. I was the only one who knew Peter was still alive.."
The initial fire that sparked the obssession and drive to come out of prison was the desire to protect Harry. Not only does his dialogue send that message, it's in the way he backs down with barely a protest ("You are the one who has the right to decide Harry, but think he did") when Harry asks him to. Given that Peter framed Sirius to endure a hellish prison after putting target on the Potters' back, I would say Sirius is entitled to argue his case and have his say. But he doesn't.
The other way Sirius centers Harry is when Harry attacks him, and while Sirius tries to get him to listen - he stops immediately after Harry mentions that he remembers his mother's murder. He essentially lets Harry decide what to do with him - which is an indication of his immense guilt but it also puts Harry first.
"You've got to listen to me," Black said, and there was a note of urgency in his voice now. "You'll regret it if you don't...You don't understand...."
"I understand a lot better than you think," said Harry, and his voice shook more than ever. "You never heard her, did you? My mum...trying to stop Voldemort killing me...and you did that...you did it...."
Before either of them could say another word, something ginger streaked past Harry; Crookshanks leapt onto Black's chest and settled himself there, right over Black's heart. Black blinked and looked down at the cat.
"Get off," he murmured, trying to push Crookshanks off him.
(.....)
Harry raised the wand. Now was the moment to do it. Now was the moment to avenge his mother and father. He was going to kill Black. He had to kill Black. This was his chance....
The seconds lengthened. And still Harry stood frozen there, wand poised, Black staring up at him, Crookshanks on his chest. Ron's ragged breathing came from near the bed; Hermione was quite silent.
And then came a new sound --
Essentially Sirius hands over the anger in the scene to Harry, until Lupin intervenes.
3. Harry deeply understands what it means to suffer under Dementors
Harry spends the whole book learning how to fight Dementors, and how it makes him relive his parents' murders. He knows, very intensely, what it is like to be near them and to suffer for it. He understands this aspect of Sirius' suffering immediately - and in GOF and OOTP, is shown to have nightmares about Dementors cornering Sirius in shadowy alleyway. He doesn't want that to happen to Sirius again, and tries to protect him.
In fact, his suffering makes Harry emotional as we see when Harry finally believes him - "throat too tight to speak, Harry nodded"
4. Sirius is associated with hope.
The moment he is free, he offers Harry a home, which causes an "explosion" inside Harry's stomach. It's such a radical idea to him that he can finally escape his abusive home, and there is someone who wants to be with him, live with him.
Even when that couldn't happen, Sirius' letter comes bearing a permission slip to Hogsmeade (something that caused Harry much angst earlier in the book) and a new pet for Ron. That is not counting the Firebolt he gifted Harry. With these offerings, he is associated with hope and happiness.
Over the summer, he reminded Harry to call on him if he ever needed him - therefore reiterating the idea that he intends to be there and wants to be in Harry's life.
Therefore, Harry thinking of him as someone "who cares about him, like a parent" and forming that immediate bond isnt a stretch at all

𝕃𝕒𝕤𝕥 𝕠𝕗 𝕌𝕤: ℂ𝕙𝕒𝕡𝕥𝕖𝕣 𝟙
Genre: Angst
Summary: This is the tale of how we children were forced to bear our fangs from a young age, to never trust anyone and icy glares at whoever was a threat. Venom soared through our veins, fulfilling our parents' duty, which was forcibly placed upon us. Wishing for a break, a chance to run. But what happens when we don't run soon enough?
Warning: a few cuss words here and there.
<><><>
We should have run, we should have just bloody ran. But I'm getting ahead of myself,
We are the villains of this story, and this is how we ended.
Hogwarts 1991,
Y/N
The sounds of people wishing their families goodbye are muffled by the silence from your family walking. The only noticeable sounds of your mother's heels clicking against the concrete of platform 9 ¾. This was normal, or well should we say your normal. Watching as some families step to the side as you pass by. A look of dread spread across their face. If they weren't gasping about The Harry Potter, aka the boy who lived, aka an annoying boy whose only reason for being popular is he survived Voldemort's attacks, they were inching away from you. Avoiding everyone's eyes as you continued walking, only paying attention to the presence of your parents. The rest of your siblings are at home with the house-elf, Elowen.
Finally coming to a stop, the pressure of your father's hands now resting on your shoulders from behind. “Now remember everything we’ve taught you, y/n.” His words lay thick in the air, almost suffocatingly. Tightening your clammy hands around the handle of the trolly. “ We expect great news...don’t disappoint us.” Looking up into your father's icy glares, simply nodding. You knew what he meant, make it into Slytherin and live out its legacy as those before you did. Unless you wanted to end up like the Blacks' eldest son, Sirius.
Rather than hugs and kisses, firm handshakes and pats on the shoulders were given. Getting on with all your luggage, you found an empty cabin. A plus from coming earlier, you suppose. After a few minutes of sitting quietly while staring out the train window, a boy walks in. “Mind if I sit here?” Turning your head rather quickly, eyeing where the voice came from. Tilting your head ever so slightly to signal he can sit. Not that you were really given a choice as he started to sit down before you could even approve. “The name Malfoy, Draco Malfoy,” He continued once he was settled in. “and your name?”
You knew all about the Malfoys, venom lacing your parent's voices when mentioning them. They believed they were a family of cowards who would run away with their legs between their legs. Not that they were wrong, but like damn. Your eyes scan him thoroughly, from his greasy hair to the smug smirk that is plastered on his face. Everything about his presence annoyed you. Fingers picking at the hem of your skirt while you debated telling him your name.
Why give him the luxury of knowing you, moreso your name. Your parents would be so disappointed, wouldn't they? Making friends with a Malfoy, someone who your family speaks so ill upon. Or maybe that’s your plan. Just maybe, for even a split second, you can do what you want. Rebell against your family and live the life you wanted. It’s not like you're under servelince anymore. You’re a free bird, right? Doubt flooded your mind, if you were to befriend him, nothing would change, but everything would at the same time. Lying to your parents in a manner more than what you did now. You’d be putting a lot of things at stake. Trust…not like there was much, but it was there. Ability to roam about when you please. After what felt like minutes you finally spoke up, “L/n, Y/n,” mimicking the boy. A small smirk displays on your lips as you join hands.
“Hate to interrupt this lovely interaction, but can we sit?” A girl with dark hair asked, arms crossed and leaning against the cabin door. Draco and your hands immediately come apart, like it was a crime to be seen touching. “I don’t have time for this.” The girl spoke, immediately sitting down beside you as the boy followed, sitting by Draco. Talk about patience, am I right? “Pansy Parkison, your Draco Malfoy, and you two are?” her eyes peering between the other boy and you. (Shit if it's a crime then mama I’m in love with a criminal)
“Balise Zabini,” The boy spoke, quick and straight to the point. He would be a good person to acquaint yourself with. Similarly to you, he is reserved and appears to not want to be here. He is also quite tall for his age, his lanky ankles hitting against yours as the train makes its way to Hogwarts. Vibrations of the train rolling against the track rumbling against everyone's feet. The squeaky wheels of the candy trolly made it's way down the aisle.
Mustering up the courage after realizing their eyes were officially on you. “Y/n…L/n.” You spoke, the pads of your hands rubbing harshly against the fabric of your skirt. Your cat Lucifer, laying between your legs, his tail swishing against your stalkings. The odd sensation causes the hair on your legs to stand up. The silence was loud before it finally clicked in the young girl's head.
Pansy’s voice raising as she spoke, “As in the L/n family!” Her reaction was a mix between excitement and fear. Her eyes glanced over all of your features, hands grasping her knees. Everyone's attention was now on you, or well the three's attention was on you. You were used to getting this type of reaction, people had many emotions towards your family and you. Envy, Hatred, Admiration you name it. Typically those of admiration were equally fucked up as your family and their twisted ideals. But what pureblood family wasn’t, or shall we say isn't?
Nodding, dreading to hear what comes out of the girl's mouth. Wishing you could be back in the solitude of your own room. “We’ll L/n, I think we're going to be exceptional friends.” Her hands were holding onto yours, while she stared straight at you with a smirk setting upon her mouth. It was like every alarm was triggering inside your head, but it was unable to see if it was good or bad. Who would betray who first? You or her? Or neither, could this friendship really go somewhere special, or could it be rotten like an apple.
Nothing much more than a few words spread around here and there, if you want to call Draco’s “rants” quiet. Just the way you like it, nice and quiet. The only sound was the train tracks running against the wheels of the train, if you were quiet enough you could hear the sound of metal scraping. Soon enough, after a ride of stiff joints and a mix of excited and horrified students, you all arrived at Hogwarts.
The booming voice of a giant man guided all the students to the boats, introducing himself as Hagrid, the keeper of keys and Hogwarts. The four of you split apart, minus Pansy as she stuck herself to your side. Her sinful smirk gleamed through the night as you both made your way onto one of the boats.
“Pansy Parkison, '' Professor McGonagall called out, the girl detached herself from your side as she stepped up to the chair. Her shoulders raised in excitement. “Slytherin,” The hat yelled as it was placed upon your head. The yells and cheers emerged from the Slytherin table, claps echoing throughout the room. “Y/n L/n,” McGonagall spoke, and everything quieted down again, as it did for those before you. Rolling your shoulders back you made your way toward the chair. McGonagall gave you a kind smile before she placed the hat on your head. “Hmm, you would be exceptional in Ravenclaw but I sense a desire for something else.” The hat spoke. He knew, or at least you think he knew. You had to make Slytherin- “Slytherin aye? Just like the rest of your family.” The hat's voicous laughter echoed. Just like the rest of your family, constantly repeating inside your head. “Slytherin,” The sorting hat shouted.
Making your way to the Slytherin table you were met with cheers and congratulations from others. Your previous cabin mates gave you either high fives or smiles as you sat down. After waiting a while for each first-year student to be named, you listened to those around you mingling. Draco met two boys named Crabbe and Goyle, while you thought they were complete blokes, Draco must have seen something in them. The time for the feast had finally arrived, everything from Pumpkin juice to turkey legs was placed on the table for all of the students to enjoy. And let's not even get started on dessert, your parents never let you have this much of it at home. But you aren't at home, are you? It's time to dig in.
Classes for the most part were fairly easy, flying class was nothing new. Your parents had you on a broom the moment you could walk. They exhausted every possible skill that they could out of you from a young age. Transfiguration was boring, but seeing professor McGonagall turn into a cat and scare the absolute knockers out of Harry Potter and Ronald Weasley was absolutely delightful. Potions were well eventful, a family friend, Severus Snape was your professor. He was even more brooding and intimidating during classes than outside of Hogwarts. Outside, or at least when he is with your family, he is quiet and doesn’t bully children. Well, he doesn’t bully you, you can’t speak for others. Astronomy had to be your favorite class, not that you didn’t already know much about it. Greek Mythology was your favorite growing up and with that, you learned a lot about astronomy. Maybe not everything, but enough to help you get through classes.
Draco had dragged you from your dorm when he heard that Potter and his little gang were out past curfew. Spying on them from the window when you had seen the group look up at you after Hagrid had said something. Dragging Draco by the arm you rushed away until you had lost sight of the bunch, who quickly on your departure, left as well. “We should tell a professor about them,” and that's exactly how you ended up here. Looking for a creature that has been killing unicorns inside the forbidden forest.
Draco’s “smart” plan, to snitch on the trio, which you told him would get you in trouble, got you in trouble. “I’m sorry professor, I must have misheard you.” Draco started, digging your graves even deeper. “I thought I heard you say, “you five,” Draco finished. Inside your head yelling at him to shut up, wishing you could just thump him on the forehead.
“You heard me correctly Mr. Malfoy. You and Miss L/n were also out past curfew.” Professor McGonagall said. Is it too late to go lay in the ground forever? You thought. So that's what brought you here, with The Harry Potter, like omg you should be shaking in your boots. Kidding. Deep in the forest, two whimps and Potter. You can’t even make fun of him when he has more courage than Draco at the moment. Walking through the forbidden forest with these bloody idiots was not how you wanted to die. Why did they even send children to go looking for what was killing the unicorns, you ain't trying to be chopped liver. Stepping over roots and pushing bushes, you all stumbled upon a unicorn being feasted on. Draco being Draco ran as fast as he could away.
“Draco, you prat get your ass back here.” You yelled out for him. The first time you had spoken that night, it was used to yell at Draco. The boy ran as fast as he could back towards the castle. Groaning, you took your leave after him, leaving Harry with Fang to deal with the monster eating the unicorn. It would have been quite cool to see this monster, but noooo Draco just had to be a scary cat. Catching up to him, just a little ways past Hagrids Hut. “You really do run with your tail between your legs,” You said, hands on your knees, catching your breath.
“Piss off,” He said, pushing you by the shoulder. A smirk was plastered upon your face, but you remained quiet as you both made your way to the dormitories. A simple “night,” was released from his mouth as he made his way up to his room. Making your way up to your room, Pansy was waiting for you. Telling you about how she watched the Weasley twins get in trouble with Snape and how they're now forced into detention. Grabbing your sleeping cap, placing your hair into it before tucking yourself into bed. The moonlight mixed water shining down, illuminating the room. The year was already off to an interesting start.

Chapter 6: Your life is not enough
You needed a couple of weeks to fully recover, even if it meant having Bill on your back every hour and taking you away from your duties with the Order. The mission that Remus Lupin gave you had to wait until further notice, all for William's excessive concern about your wounds
The task of keeping you away was complicated, more so when the Death Eater attacks had gained strength that no one expected. The members of the order spent twenty-four hours a day on watch with no time for breaks, even Bill went three days without sleep until you, still recovering , left the room and dragged him back with you regardless of his constant complaining. Molly supported you in the decision - thank god - telling her son not to worry that the rest of the Order would keep their eyes fully opened and he could rest comfortably next to you
The drastic change in Mrs. Weasley's behavior confused you because there was no reason for it, but the relief helped make your recovery quicker and less painful. The healer who you the morning after the accident with the Death Eaters took too long to close the wound as it was a curse wound and it needed a counter spell to heal properly, but not having one, he used other tactics and Dittany to help it heal. However, the help had come too late, and the scar was a throbbing fact that stung terribly when you made the slightest move. The healer said the burning and discomfort would go away with time, but the redness would stay forever. You thought that would be the last of your problems until you got your first glimpse of the result of the attack.
It was a disastrous thing, but it could have been much worse. You sighed as you looked at your disheveled image in the bathroom mirror. You had just taken a shower and Bill was still dressing in the bedroom. You took off the robe Ginny had given you a night before, watching the scar glisten across the valley of your breasts ending above your ribs. You sighed again, if you didn't consider yourself pretty before, at that moment you felt awful.
A new figure appeared in the reflection accompanied by a bright smile. William wore his white shirt tucked into his pants, his bow tie dangling from his collar and his suspenders placed perfectly flush against his shoulders. You smiled, looking at him through the mirror.
“Getting used to your dazzling new short hair?” You asked as you noticed Bill's nervous hand run over his head for the fifth time after the shower. Bill groaned, burying his face in your neck.
“I hate this style”
“And why did you cut it off, then?”
“Mom made me," he stated, tightening his hands around your waist, "She wants me to make a good impression, and for once I wanted to please her in something”
“Wow, your mom wanting to impress my family? That's new”
“Well, not every day you get to visit Lord Voldemort's brother," you gave him a bad look, smacking his hand, "Too soon for a joke, sorry”
You shook your head, escaping from Bill's embrace putting perfume behind your ear, on your wrists and neck. You gasped when a small drop of perfume touched your wound, reddening it. Your eyes lost in the scar again, knowing that even if your dress managed to cover most of it, the initial edges would be exposed like the body of a worm crawling through your clothes. Bill discovered your discontent. He hugged you again, running his fingertips over your sore skin as he kissed your bare shoulder. Maybe you couldn't see it, but for Bill you were perfect. Not just for the way you looked, but the beautiful heart that, even if he didn't deserve it, you had given him without any qualms. You deserved to be appreciated by the rest of the world, not just by him.
“I love you. You know that, don't you?”
“Even with the scar?”
“With the scar even more. It shows how brave you are and you should be proud of it. You saved Mad-Eye”
“The others will see it”
“It's their problem, not yours. You're still the most beautiful woman in this world.
You smiled, stroking the short hair of the man behind you.
“Not as much as that”
“You're right. I stand corrected. You are the most beautiful woman in both worlds”
“William...”
“I'll help you get dressed," he said, noticing that you were blushing up to your ears. William smiled without understanding why a sweet comment could make you blush, but not the fact that he was looking at you naked from the waist up. He picked up the dress hanging on the dresser reaching over to help it over your head pulling it down gently so as not to hurt you. Then, he zipped up your back leaving a wet kiss on your neck.
Bill's false calm didn't go unnoticed by you. As you smoothed the folds of your dress you noticed the trembling in his hands and the way his feet drummed on the floor. He was playing with the zipper of your dress pulling it up and down, trying to calm his nerves
“Bill, it's not necessary to do this”
“It is!” He replied looking up. You turned to him, crossing your arms around his neck, "I want to respect the traditions, to do things right. I want to show everyone that we mean business. It's just that...”
“My grandfather scares you?”
“What? No” You raised an eyebrow “Okay, maybe a little”
“You don't need to talk to him. He'll understand”
“I want to”
You gave in to Bill's pout. A few days ago, just after he asked you to marry him, Arthur Weasley spoke to his son asking him how he would go about keeping the traditions of the family. Bill didn't seem to understand what he was referring to when his father explained that the Weasleys used to always, always, visit the bride's parents' home right after the engagement to ask for their approval. Offerings were usually brought in a show of respect and the parents in question would respond by offering dinner for the guests. Bill's eyes widened, was that a real tradition?, he didn't know, “why didn't you ever tell me about it!” he questioned his father in a shout. Arthur knew about his son's untimely ignorance, returning the accusation, “Would that have made any difference on your desire to have her as your wife?” Bill didn't have to think too hard. “Of course not!” he shouted and his father laughed, patting him on the shoulder. His son was brave and would have asked for his bride's hand even from Voldemort himself. Bill was lucky tho cause he only had to talk to the old alchemist Tim Grant.
Your grandfather was the only one in the family who seemed to be neutral in the war caused by his brother, but above all he was the person who loved you most as you had both been banished from the Grants for standing up for your own convictions. Maybe Tim wasn’t an active member of either side, however, the blood connection with his brother Tom Riddle sent shivers down the spines of those around him. The man isolated himself in the Galapagos islands dangerously close to a volcano, where he was sure his brother wouldn’t dare to look for him. The Weasleys, hearing the story from your lips didn’t understand why.
You used a portkey to get to your grandfather's house. Arthur had communicated with Tim hours earlier and the two of them managed to establish a connection undetected for the ministry thanks to the old Grant's powerful magic and his skills as an alchemist. You couldn't hide your excitement at seeing your grandfather again, which encouraged Bill's eagerness to formally introduce himself to his next.... grandfather-in-law?
“Well then, but you don't have to worry. Grandpa is a very understanding man”
“Yeah, I'm sure he is”
“Bill Weasley, who knew talking to an old man would make you so nervous?”
“Very funny” he rolled his eyes, gluing his forehead to yours “I just want him to like me, (Y/N)”
“He likes everyone”
“That doesn't make me feel any better.”
“It will when you talk to him and see there's nothing to be afraid of” You stood on your tiptoes cause even with your high heels you couldn't reach his height. You kissed his cheek, snatching a warm smile from him “He's not like the rest of my family”
“I didn't mean to imply that, I'm sorry”
“It's all right, I know you didn't mean it. Now let's go downstairs, your mother must be going crazy”
“As if she wasn't already”
You slapped his arm as you descended the stairs. You didn't want Molly to hear them and relive her recently dissipated discontent with you
The rest of the family were already near the portkey with their arms full of baskets with offerings for your grandpa and the twins carrying some strange ornaments. Bill's sister Ginny greeted you with a smile, handing one of the baskets to her older brother. Molly and Arthur approached their children, both hanging on the opposite arm dressed in their best sunday clothes to make a good impression. You smiled without waiting for Bill's mother to smile back.
After the accident at Little Whinging Molly's rudeness disappeared. Not that she accepted you with open arms, but she stopped making bad comments and avoided looking at you in a bad way. Bill didn't know what Mad-Eye said to his mother that night when he told everyone how you had saved him knowing how much he owed you, but Bill didn't understand the size of the changing till he saw his mother offer you a piece of litchi pie the night after the attack when you were recovering from the wound. It was not that big of a deal really, but it had left you with a permanent smile on your face.
It was Molly herself who had taken the initiative to encourage Bill to fulfill the family tradition. If a Grant was going to come into their home as their son's wife then she should do it the way they knew. Her first piece of advice to her son was cutting his hair to a normal length. Bill was horrified by his mother's words cause he knew she was taking advantage of the moment to make him suffer with his precious mane. He did it anyway, because there wasn't anything in the world he wouldn't do for you
It was a drastic change, but it was worth it. Molly saw your eyes sparkle at the sight of her son so changed, with his hair cut short and his beard shaved. Your fingers danced over his face appreciating the effort Molly, not yet convinced of your influence at home, had made for you. Molly stifled a smile, unaware even to herself, that you were slowly beginning to win her heart.
You touched the shuttle at the same time falling precipitously in the sand and Harry helped you up with a smile. Then you walked straight appearing in front of a huge house that was sheltered by the foothills of the bubbling volcano on the other side of the island. The twins, like the rest of the family, let out an exclamation of astonishment as Ron, harried by the huge spiders hovering in the sand, ran for the door.
The smell of freshly cooked food escaped through the cracks in the door before it was opened. The twins' eyes widened as they recognized the delicious smell of cooked prawns and coconut sauce wafting over their heads. You knocked on the door three times, then stopped and resumed the knocking four more times. The Weasleys watched you, did you have a special code to communicate with each other?
"Come in" You gave way to them closing the door behind you and sealing it with an unknown spell. Bill waited for you at the threshold as his family was already making their way to the table where a very well dressed Tim Grant was waiting for them sitting in the main chair. Bill looked at him from his position, shaking “We still have time to run away” you joked “If you're not ready...”
“I am," he said confidently.
“Okay”
You both walked toward the dining room. Tim was greeting the rest of the family enthusiastically. Bill sighed. At least Tim seemed to get along with his parents, so that was good. They all filled a seat, with Tim occupying the head and Arthur the opposite end; Molly sat on Tim's right side and you sat on Mr. Weasley's right side. The twins, Ron, Harry and Ginny took the middle seats leaving Bill the only vacant spot on Tim's left side. Bill took a breath before taking the seat and receiving a curious look from the man.
“Ah, how wonderful is to have more people to fill the empty spaces! A table this big doesn't serve any purpose unless it's fully occupied, does it? That's what I always say!”
“Don't you usually get many visitors?” asked Molly, breaking the ice. Bill felt sweat trickle down his back. Tim guffawed, patting the back of Molly's hand on the table.
“I’m afraid so. I think that is cause I'm the only one crazy enough to live near an active volcano and my family's fame doesn't help me much either, I'm generally a lonely man. Most of the time it's frustrating, but I can deal with it. You are a big family from i can see, are they all yours, Arthur?”
“Only the redheads," he replied. You recognized in his tone of voice a slight pride “The other one is...”
“Harry Potter” Tim Grant's eyes sparkled with recognition. He looked at Harry with a smile, bowing his head to him in respect. Harry did the same “I know him. He's the guy who's been giving my brother headaches”
Tim's laughter echoed through the house being followed by the twins and you cleared your throat to get his attention. Tim spotted you from across the table waving his hand dismissively.
“Grandpa, please”
“A little joke to lighten the mood, my dear, oh, are these for me?” he questioned, bringing closer the baskets offered by the Weasleys resting on the table. Bill's basket was in front of him waiting to be properly delivered, so he stood up and did as he should. Tim Grant gladly received it, complimenting the selection they had made “What a cute boy, did you see him, dear,? he's gone red!”
You let out a chuckle, nodding at your grandfather's words. Bill's face was flushed as he returned to his spot and looked down at his hands. Tim guffawed again and banged the table.
“I appreciate the gifts, Arthur, I've never been part of a tradition like this before”
“It was important for my son and the rest of us to do it, to introduce ourselves properly”
“Sure! It's what a family with honor does. I'm not surprised. No, not at all. The Weasleys were in the book of the sacred twenty-eight for a long time until they were struck off the list. Tell me, that was quite a blow, wasn't it?”
“Not so much, my family has never cared about that sort of thing”
“Of course! It never did, I could see it up close. Did you know I was friends with your grandmother, Lysandra Yaxley?”
Arthur's eyes widened.
“Really?”
“Really. My family also once belonged to the most important pureblood families until I was born, of course. Lysandra and I became friends because her family also got kicked off the list when Cedrella, your mother, married your father Septimus Weasley. Even your grandfather Arcturus was removed from the Black family tree which was an embarrassment for him being that the ancestral Black family is too proud and such. Anyway, that's part of life, right? Creating new families, bringing people together...”
“Was your family always purebloods?” Fred asked. Tim shook his head
“It was. As I mentioned, before I made my appearance in this world”
“Why?”
Tim was suddenly silent. You scanned your grandfather's face waiting for an answer. Dinner plates flew in from the kitchen and positioned themselves at each guest's place setting while a huge chocolate fountain was set up in the center accompanied by a plate overflowing with assorted fruit. The baskets took a turn and took a place on your grandpa's shelves. Tim sighed, looking at the Weasleys asking to begin dinner.
“I’m the son of a witch, but not of a pure blood wizard”
“Don't you and Lord Voldemort share the same father?”
“Harry...”
”It's all right, Molly, I can answer that” Tim rubbed his chin, thinking “I understand your concern boy, being hide here doesn't make me ignorant to what's going on out there and I know better than anyone what you're going through. You need weapons against my brother and you do well. Tom is a big threat, a very big threat indeed. You're right, Tom and I don't share a father, but that doesn't make him any less my brother.
“I think we're straying from the subject that brought us here” mentioned Arthur feeling a sudden warmth. You supported him, but Tim continued to speak
“I was the son of Merope Gaunt and Aleister Grant. My father was a famous son, grandson and great-grandson of brilliant alchemists, and unsurprisingly he was one himself. Merope Gaunt was... a direct descendant of Salazar Slytherin and a Parselmouth. She had a brother named Morfin and my grandfather was Sorvolo Gaunt. My parents met when the Gaunts had just moved to Little Hangleton after their exile and needed a place to stay. They became the owners of a squalor ridden shack on the edge of town and well, my father was a young alchemist who lived near the Gaunt abode”
You sipped from your wine glass as you listened to your grandfather speak. Never, even with the rest of the family, had he ever struck such a chord as he was doing with the Weasleys. The truth was that you didn't understand why he was telling them all that, however, you weren’t interested in interrupting the story as you knew your grandfather had a purpose with him.
“Those of us who are dedicated to alchemy have never enjoyed an enviable reputation because our transmutation abilities are mostly underestimated by the things that magic in general can produce and it makes a science like alchemy reserved for muggles in their attempt to approach the power that the wizards possess. Personally I think there is something right about that, precisely cause the transmutation in the Muggle world is divided into subjects they taught in schools like chemistry or physics, but alchemy goes beyond that, it’s a connection between the wizard and the spirituality that each one possesses...” the man's gaze was lost in a place at the table, pausing the story. Harry settled back on the seat waiting for him to continue “But it's very difficult to erase the deep-rooted ideas about it, so the best is ignore that and continue doing what we believe is right. Anyway, ah! I got off topic, didn't I? Okay, okay, well my parents ended up meeting and my father fell in love with my mother as fast as my socks get cold at night, but that infatuation wasn’t well regarded by my uncle and even less by my grandfather, of course, for the fame of the alchemists at the time”
“So what happened?” you asked. Tim smiled at you, taking a bite of the rye bread on his plate.
“My mother was treated worse than a house- elf by her father and Morfin, so she decided to run away with my father to France where he had several alchemist friends who could protect them. The Gaunts might have been exiled, but they were still dangerous and to be honest I think my father was terribly afraid of uncle Morfin. They eventually made it to France, but they encountered an infamous muggle who tried to hurt my mother”
Everyone stopped eating to pay attention to Tim as he drank his third glass of wine. You thought that your grandfather wouldn't even be able to stand up by the end of the night.
“He was known as Gilles De Rais. He was a sadistic muggle who tried to become a wizard even though he wasn't born a wizard and used my father to tell him secrets of alchemy. One night they were having a conversation when my father revealed him that there were certain amounts of gold in people's bodies. Gold is a very valuable component, as you already know, so the man's greed didn’t take long to show itself and he questioned my dad how it could be obtained. My father told him that the only way to obtain the gold was by draining the blood and dividing it with a very complicated procedure, however, the gold of an ordinary adult was quite scarce. The real wealth was in the blood of children of no more than ten years old because they possessed a great amount of gold and other components that could be transmuted into riches. The muggle did so, and when he learned that my mother was a real witch, he wanted to know if golden blood ran through her veins, which would make him richer than he already was. My father refused, and decided to leave the place before he hurt us, because they knew she was already pregnant. The muggle went mad and unleashed in him a fury that spread throughout France”
The Weasley twins chorused an astonished murmur as the others moved up to the table so as not to miss a word of the story. You sent a glance at Bill as he hadn't stopped sweating and going over his words all evening.
"They wanted to go back to Little Hangleton but my uncle and grandfather were still in a rage waiting to see them arrive, so my father sent my mother alone while he found another place to stay as he could not expose her to the cold streets of France while on standby, so they had no choice but to leave her with her family avoiding revealing my existence to them. Uncle Morfin didn’t want my mother back, but my grandfather convinced him because they needed someone to take care of the house and their needs. Time passed, my father didn’t come back and I was born in the garden of the house while my mother watered the plants”
“My birth was a surprise to everyone because my mother knew how to hide me well until my father's arrival but, as that didn't happen, I couldn't stand it any longer and made my triumphant appearance on my grandfather's favorite bushes. Uncle Morfin was furious and even tried to get rid of me immediately, but my mother clung to me like a lioness.
“Really?”
“Really," he replied with a broad smile, "I think a part of her was still holding on to my father showing up at some point and getting us out of there, but again that didn't happen. Mom had to endure her brother and father's abuse for me and that's a debt I can never repay”
The whole table fell silent, thinking. Dinner continued as a heavy thunderstorm rumbled overhead, accompanying old Tim Grant's story as if it were yesterday. The man paused to eat and the others did the same with no desire to miss a word. Harry's eyes sparkled in wonder and Mr. Weasley's strong hand on yours helped to soothe your fervent anguish.
“I guess that's what mothers do, isn't it? Anyway, the years passed and I had to live under uncle Morfin's shadow and at the mercy of his growing wrath. When I turned five I started helping the market men with their chores in exchange for a couple of pounds which we had to exchange later for galleons and sickles to survive for two weeks. Mom helped bring money into the house, but it wasn't enough. Then, at seven, the Dream Messengers showed up one night telling me I was required to study at the Uagadou magical college in Africa so I couldn't refuse”
“Wait, Uagadou takes students from the age of seven?”
“Oh I see," the man settled back in his chair, wiping the corners of his lips with a napkin as he stared at Ron, "I forgot that the rest of the magical schools aren't very well known around here, are they? Well, yes, some schools take in very young students as is the case with Uagadou or the Japanese school. It depends a lot on the traditions in each region i guess, because in the African school they select only descendants of alchemists or who have had at least someone in their bloodline whose spirituality helped them to become one. It wasn't all as easy as that, of course, because each student had to pass a test before having a permanent stay, but....
“What kind of test?” Harry questioned when dinner was over and they start dessert. The twins were the first to help themselves a piece of fruit, playing with the chocolate fountain in the center of the table.
“One that only wizards with alchemist ancestry could pass, Mr. Potter. I passed the test so I had no choice but to move to the castle immediately. I didn't want to leave my mother alone, but she convinced me to do it. Going to Uagadou was a great opportunity for me and for her cause it meant I could follow in my father's footsteps” Tim's face suddenly darkened as he pushed away the overflowing plate of fruit Molly offered him. He folded his hands on the table and thought for a long moment. The twins continued to play with the chocolate fountain but a fierce look from their mother made them stop. Then Tim Grant sighed, wiping the sweat from his brow with the handkerchief on his coat “I regret that decision to this day. I could have gone to Hogwarts like any other wizard, but I suppose my ambition got the better of me. Maybe... if I hadn't left Little Hangleton she never would have met Tom Riddle”
You tensed as you felt the pressure of Mr. Weasley's hand on yours a little too tightly. One glance at the others was enough to understand the dread the name struck their nerves. You even caught a glimpse of the hiss on Molly's lips and saw the sting in Harry's scar. Tim let out a chuckle, taking another drink from his wine glass.
“My brother’s father. I didn't hear from him until a couple of years later, when my mother wrote to me saying that uncle Morfin was in Azkaban and that my grandfather had died. She didn't give me many details, however, she did very vaguely mention the presence of a muggle who was quite striking to her. For better or worse, my mother was already forgetting my father, believing that he had abandoned her or, at worst, that he had dropped dead somewhere in France. I didn't believe the same, but it was logical that she got tired of waiting. I would never have grown tired, at least not having loved the way they did”
Your gaze rolled to meet Bill's eyes as he looked back at you. He smiled at you, causing you to blush. Then you both looked back at your grandpa who was sipping a new glass of wine.
“It was a couple more years before I stopped hearing from my family. Mom never wrote again and with uncle Morfin in Azkaban there was nothing that could be done. When I was eleven i returned to Little Hangleton only to find that my mother had married Tom Riddle, got pregnant and he had thrown her out on the street like a dog. She was left with nothing, unable to return to her father’s old house, and was forced to wander in the streets for months, until one rainy december night she went into labor in the middle of an alley. I helped her as much as I could, dragged her to the door of an orphanage where my mother no longer even had the strength to save the three of us. She had her wand in her hand, but she never used it. She gave up in front of me, the baby was born and asked me to name him after his father. She put him in my arms, the door of the orphanage opened, but mother had already died”
“Grandpa-”
“As you can understand, it's kind of hard for me to remember all that," Tim Grant's reddened eyes closed, choking back tears, "I was just a little kid taking care of a baby and I didn't do my best job of raising him. I was upset with my mother for a long time after she died, but I don't judge her now. After living an almost totally miserable life, my mother had no hope and not enough courage to make her want to keep trying, even for the sake of her newborn son. That decision had a considerably negative impact on Tom's psyche as he was growing up I suppose cause I had to go back to school and I couldn't take him with me, I would have! Of course I would have. I tried, but Tom wasn’t descended from any alchemist and there was nothing I could do about that. I tried, Merlin knows I did. I felt the need to leave him in that orphanage. I visited him whenever I could. For a year I went back and forth from continent to continent to see him, but that wasn't enough for Tom to grow up feeling loved. Orphanage life is hard, dear friends, we shouldn’t judge others too harshly, much less a lonely mother” Tim Grant's irritated eyes were fixed on Harry, reflecting deep pain “She was weakened by her long suffering and she never had Lily Evans’ courage. Everyone sacrifices for those they love in different ways, and my mother did it in her own way”
“Why didn't you ever talk about this?” you asked from across the table. Everyone looked at you “when dad asked you so-”
“Your father didn't need any more reasons to support Tom's follies” Tim shook his head “My brother is a very convincing person not only with his family members but with anyone who gets in the way of his plans. He has a very affiliated serpentine tongue, he inherited the gift of gab from our ancestors and your father grew up under his influence”
“We're very sorry for what you had to go through, Tim, but there's nothing that can be done about you-know-who and all that's left for us to do is to fight him”
“I understand, Arthur, but that doesn't stop me from blame myself. I did what I could, but an eleven-year-old can't take the place of his parents. When I graduated from school and wanted to take care of him Tom was already at Hogwarts and completely disappeared from everyone's eye," he lamented, scrunching his eyelids together, "That was the last time I saw him as the real Tom and not the ghastly grayish mass he is now”
The twins and Ron laughed at the comment and were immediately silenced by their father. Tim scrunched up his eyes, took a breath and let out a laugh looking around the room.
“Well, enough whining, that's not what you guys are here for, is it?” Bill, that had kept silent, denied when the man turned to see him, "What's done is done, and lamenting won't do any good, but I hope that what I've just told you will help you to see Tom's human side if he still has it, which I doubt it very much”
“Thank you, sir”
“You're welcome, Harry, dear, well? What was you wanted to tell me, my boy?”
Tim Grant turned his full body towards Bill, almost climbing up on the table fixing his huge opaque eyes on Bill's. Bill held his gaze noticing that the man was drunk since the beginning of the evening. He looked to you for help, but you were too busy watching Mrs. Weasley's reaction to hearing the reason for your visit.
“Come on, boy, don't be shy”
“I... well, I wanted to-”
“Oh, Arthur, your son is so cute!” he shouted as he squeezed Bill's cheeks. His brothers and Harry laughed and even Molly hid a mischievous smile by putting a piece of apricot in her mouth “Poor frightened boy. But, come on! I'm not going to make it harder for you, I know you're here to ask for my granddaughter's hand in marriage, aren't you?”
“Yes, that's right, sir”
“Well, that's a great gesture of you, but this is a job for (Y/N)’s parents”
“It is, but you understand that under such circumstances we couldn't pay a courtesy visit to the Death Eaters," Arthur interjected with an amused smile.
“Indeed”
“So...”.
“So..." repeated Tim. You sighed, "You love my granddaughter?
“Yes, sir”
“How much?”
“A lot”
“Are you going to protect her, take care of her, and love her?”
“With my life, sir”
“Your life is not enough for me, William” Tim smiled at him, tapping Bill's chin with one of his fingers “My granddaughter is still a Grant, descended from very powerful wizards. My hand will not tremble to revenge the suffering you put her through, am i being clear?”
“Y-yes, sir. Crystal clear”
“Good boy," he replied, patting his cheek. Then he turned to Molly, took her hand and kissed the back of it, giving her a beautiful smile. The woman blushed, but it didn't last long because the man turned to her husband and bowed his head in respect. Arthur pressed your hand on the table and also kissed the back of your hand, making a promise “Well, then. Arthur, your son has my blessing to marry my granddaughter”
Mr. Weasley raised his glass, offering it to Tim.
“Thank you, Tim. We promise to take care for (Y/N) as a member of our family”
“I hope so." The man rested his chin on his hands, watching the huge smile form on your lips and kissing Arthur's cheek. He turned to Molly lightly patting her shoulder offering her a sweet roll which she accepted with a giggle “It's nice to see you accepting my (Y/N) so well” Molly wrinkled her nose “Since who she is and coming from a family as complicated as ours...it was hard for me to believe that someone from the outside could fall in love with her someday. I always knew my little girl was different from everyone” Tim's brown irises clouded over. Molly fell silent “You could put her in a basket of rotten apples and she'd make them blossom, so I'm glad to hear you've taken her in as one of yours. Being a Grant is a very complicated task, i never had a problem with people speaking shit about me, i was never ashamed to be recognized as Lord Voldemort's brother, but my yoke should not fall on my granddaughter” Molly Weasley listened carefully “I have always been a faithful supporter of being judged individually and not by the others actions, that would be like punishing children for their parents mistakes, wouldn't it? That wouldn't be fair and it wouldn't make us any less guilty than my brother, isn't that what he’s doing? Punishing Muggle-born wizards just because they weren't born under Merlin's blessing? I like you, Molly, I know you understand.
A pain in her chest made her look down, embarrassed. But then Tim lifted her chin at just the right moment for her to catch the moment her son rose from his place to walk over to you and lock you in a breath-stealing hug. Arthur was at your side watching you and then his attention focused on his wife giving her a beaming smile, the kind she hadn't seen in a long time. Even the rest of their children had joined in the celebration and Harry rose to congratulate you while you and Bill happily sealed your engagement with a kiss. Tim moved Molly's chin towards him, their gazes colliding.
“Yes," Molly whispered, "I understand.
“Good” Tim let out a laugh, pulling away from Molly to toast. The woman watched you as she smiled thinly ”Then my story was useful somehow”

oh hello I don't think Dumbledore knew for sure that Tom had murdered people he definitely didn't know about Horcruxs BUT - He had been working at Hogwarts for decades, without much incident - and then suddenly when he personally brings Tom in: - The Chamber of Secrets is opened - A little muggleborn girl dies - A half-breed student is thrown under the bus - Tom's relatives are murdered He has no proof any of this is Tom's doing. He doesn't want to believe it's Tom's doing. He is kind and polite to Tom while everything is taking place. But he is paranoid as fuck. He has JUST dealt with his ex while Tom is going to school: A man who was expelled from Durmstrang for his secret experiments and near-fatal attacks on students.
Gellert has only just been taken down, the wars are only just over - now Hogwarts is going through some sneaky dark magic fuckery. The fun just never ends. One dark magic thing after another - deaths of innocent little girls, blood purity fucking over muggleborns and half-breeds, of old magical secrets being uncovered... Tom reminded Albus of himself and of Gellert. Three of a kind.
I doubt Tom worked at Borgin & Burkes for a bad reason - just a deep interest in Dark Magic. Which Albus had once, too. Which Gellert had. But Albus wasn't unreasonable for not wanting him to be a teacher. This kid, which he has always worried is too much like himself - has a really big head - walks into Hogwarts after decades and says: "Hello my name is Lord Voldemort - I would like to take control of how much/how little Dark Arts the next generation learns please. :^)"
The first time Tom was rejected - Dumbledore may have had a hand in it, yes, but it was not his decision. He was just a teacher. The staff of Hogwarts all liked Tom. Even if Albus was staunchly against it - he is one obviously paranoid voice amongst many.
Britain is fresh off of the Global Wizarding War / WWII (closely intertwined) where Dark Magic specifically was a big scary problem. Not to mention the school is still recovering from the Chamber. If that is not enough reason for Albus' request to seem reasonable: to demand a little more experience from Tom before he applies as a full time teacher of a core subject... idk what is. Ultimately it isn't even the Headmasters decision, but the Hogwarts Board of Governors and the Ministry - but it is certainly not Albus'. He taught Transfiguration and got a medal for his skills and service in the wars. He was essentially McGonagall, not a political powerhouse.
EDIT because I wanted to add something: I don't really buy into Albus preventing Tom from getting any work anywhere, even if people like him enough to listen. Albus, Mr 'puts himself and his job in danger to house needy people' Mr hires squibs, ghosts, 'violent' half-giants and centaur Mr invites muggles to the school Mr bend over backwards so a werewolf isnt pushed out of society... ...stopping an orphan who might just be naughty from getting work? Just like werewolves can't get work? I don't see it.
I love Dumbledore saying Tom was evil for working at Borgin & Burkes while also admitting to sabotaging his job opportunities at Hogwarts. (And tbh given the reach of Dumbledore’s influence he probably sabotaged him elsewhere too.) Like dude. Tom didn’t even want to work there. And I dint buy that it was part of some evil plan since during his whole time there he committed one (1) act of theft that obviously wasn’t pre-planned and led to him essentially fleeing the country.

You and Me || Harry Potter
Pairing: Draco Malfoy x Slytherin/Reader
Summary: It's always been you and Draco since you can remember, the invincible duo, the two of you against the world but some things have changed along the way and it's not news to any soul at Hogwarts but it's time your parents knew too.
Word Count: 2,8k
A/N: I took a bit to finish but here it is your story @x-dratie-x. I hope you all like it! Tom Riddle is not Voldemort in this oneshot, Voldemort didn’t exist at all but the events of the first war and its consequences still is valid, but with another wizard.
Warnings: A very very slightly sexual conversation and that's all
1987
I didn't want to be at that dinner, I didn't want to have to listen all day long to how well I should behave because the Malfoy's were such an important family or something.
I had plans for the week, I would go with our elf to buy more art supplies and I was allowed to spend the day outside the house, just drawing the landscape.
My parents never let me participate in events like this, because I might mess up, say something inappropriate for the moment, or whatever excuse they decided to make up. But out of the blue, I was told that I would have to be there. Why? I couldn't understand and I didn't even ask them, what good would it do? None.
The day was only getting worse and worse by the hour for me, I just wanted to take off that dress and go play but I couldn't, obviously. So I did what was left to me, smile and eat politely without making any noise or comments, not that there were any comments I would like to make. I had no idea what they were talking about, it was absolutely boring. The only thing that made me feel slightly better were my own thoughts and the fact that their son was as bored as I was.
We knew each other because of some casual encounters between our parents but never had the opportunity to talk to each other, because of course, only grown-ups talk.
But it seems that I drew the long straw after a horrible day, after dinner Mr. and Mrs. Malfoy were invited to stay a little longer and I was excused along with Draco to play.
I could hardly believe it, I wouldn't have to sit there and smile for another 45 minutes, my happiness couldn't be measured at that moment. Not even waiting for my mother to say it again, I stood up and said goodbye politely with a smile before walking up the stairs and I could hear footsteps following me somewhat hesitantly but I didn't care at the moment.
"Come on, let's go play in my room", I exclaimed with a huge smile and threw the bow tie, which was pinning my hair, on the floor and quickly walked over to it uncaringly.
I missed his shocked expression but as soon as we reached my door, he made sure to make it clear to me.
"Do your parents let you do that?", the question made no sense in my head but stopping to think about it now, it makes sense, he should always be flawless.
"They don't care as long as it's not in front of guests, you won't tell them, right?", his greyish blue eyes reflected mine and for a few seconds I thought that was a beautiful effect.
He looked away from me and nodded slightly in agreement, his face covered in shyness and I just squealed with delight. I opened the door and pulled him inside, his hand was so cold that I thought about taking one of my jackets and handing it to him.
"So what do you want to do? I have some toys in my closet, I'll get them", I walked happily to the door and proceeded to try to decide what I would want. Some was not the best word, there were a lot of them, far more than I would ever use.
I came back with a big mulberry box that I've only been able to carry within the last year and placed it on my bed but he didn't even notice, he was looking at my drawings.
"Oh, you liked them. I wish I had done one more today, do you want to try?", I asked him and walked over to the table where my sheets were.
"Yeah, they're not too bad", he stated nonchalantly and I didn't believe him for a moment but I chose to keep my mouth shut for once.
I picked up two white sheets, two quills and sat down quietly on the floor, since I didn't have two chairs for the two of us but it seems he wasn't used to that.
"Come on, hurry up, your parents won't be here forever", I patted the seat next to me and soon he sat down as well, I noticed his posture still uncomfortable and my goal for the day turned to change that, if only for 5 minutes.
From that day on, we became closer and our parents obviously understood and liked that, because we were strengthening their relationship and at no point that crossed my mind. I was just happy to be supported by my parents to visit Draco.
1991
My Hogwarts letter had arrived some weeks ago and I hadn't let go at any point, going to Diagon Alley had become a completely different experience and I couldn't wait, but I had to because I pleaded with my and his parents so that we would go together.
But the day had finally arrived and I had to contain all my energy to not look like an out of control little girl, nothing out of the ordinary but today was more difficult because I was genuinely happy. I was always genuinely happy with my only real friend.
"Y/N, you must hurry or we are going to be late", I could hear my mother's voice from downstairs just as I finished putting on my flats.
As it was a very important occasion I had chosen my favorite outfit, even my parents were a little excited too. They had told me that they had met at Hogwarts and that I would find someone from a good family at Slytherin as well. This part was completely ignored by me but they never found out about it.
"I'm here mom, we won't be late", I said as soon as I came down the stairs and approached them without running. We were near the fireplace and I mentally thanked them for not having to apparate, because it was always a horrible experience for me.
"Okay, I'll go first and you two right after", my father made sure to announce although he always goes first when we go out like that.
After a few minutes, we arrived in front of Flourish & Blotts and there was the imposing Malfoy family. After a small talk in which I had no interest in paying attention to, we all went inside and we were finally able to talk while our parents were engaged in a conversation with the attendant.
"I've already said it once and I'll say it again, I honestly don't understand how you're not that excited, it's Hogwarts", I whispered to him as we walked through the messy shelves full of books.
"It doesn't seem like a great thing after hearing it so many times", I could clearly see that there was something more there, I had known him long enough to know that and also that he wouldn't tell me easily.
"Okay, so you're telling me that you're not the least bit excited to leave Malfoy Manor to start your life?", his lips twitched trying to hold back a smile, his eyes shifted from mine, looking for something to distract himself.
But I could stop him, my cunning little hands went to his waist tickling that area before he could prevent me from doing so. That was enough to make him laugh, although he denied that he was ticklish every time I asked.
This attack did not end well for me, because revenge existed in his vocabulary and was even overused. I had to run, as fast as I could, and it still didn't work.
And why? Because I went to a dead end corridor upstairs, I had never even visited the second floor of that store, the day I went there I had to get unlucky.
In short, I was attacked twice more without mercy, my glasses almost got broken and we were so noisy that the owner gave us a scolding and our parents did the same as soon as we left with our packages, but this was not enough to ruin the day and our good mood.
1993
It was already expected that we would both end up in Slytherin, which was great because we didn't have to be separated, on the opposite, we became closer than ever. It also didn't take long to form our group of friends, actually not more than a month but the thing that made us truly close started in the third year when I had a genius idea.
We all had a reason to dislike Harry, mine was nowhere near Draco's, no one's was but we shared it anyway. It was always fun to pick fights with him, make pranks and get him into trouble on purpose, so why not make it a little game? It was so easy that the idiots, Crabbe and Goyle understood the first few times, you can't expect more than that from them, and this was certainly a record for both.
The game had three main objectives:
- Take the most materials from Harry or his friends: ink, quill, books, whatever they were carrying would be a prize and would get a point.
- See him or his friends more often, with the intention of spying on them just for fun, of course. It could be in class or in the corridors, each time would be an extra point.
- Pick fights with him or his friends, each minute was worth one point and to be proven, had to have someone to confirm it.
Of course, there was no room for lies, and I made sure to put a spell on our board to prevent this. Yes, I had made a small board that stayed with me but each team wrote down their own score.
To make it more fun, we split up into pairs. Draco and I, Pansy and Blaise, Grabbe and Goyle, Astoria and Millicent and Tom and Theo.
And finally, the best part, whoever had the most points at the end of the year would win 5 galleons from each person, as well as having a celebration party financed by the losers.
Needless to say, Draco and I always won since the day I created the game. Our friends always complained about us playing dirty but it was never necessary and deep down they knew it, it must be hard to lose every year so I don't judge them.
1995
"Are they still complaining?", I remained with my eyes closed, it was comfortable to lie curled up against Draco on the couch in the common room. We had two free classes, which was being put to good use to get some rest after a year of N.O.M.S. and a devastating victory in our little game.
"They'll get over it when we come back in September, I guess.... You're missing the best part", his voice came out whispered directly into my ear and I couldn't help but smile.
I didn't need to see the scene to know what was going on, Tom and Theo blaming each other for the defeat, everyone standing back from them because no one wants to get involved in their ego battle and our other friends trying not to laugh because it was a funny scene, even if they didn't know it.
"They're taking longer than last time...", I commented slightly annoyed by the noise. I had no idea what had happened to me, because usually I spent the afternoon celebrating my victory but not today.
"Let's get out of here, you seems so good", he hadn't even completed his sentence when I agreed and painfully got up to go to his room.
But before I could take two steps, I felt his arms go around my waist and legs, leading me up the stairs in a bridal style.
I smiled wider and snuggled into his arms, enjoying more of the warmth and good feeling it gave me until we reached the bed.
"Thanks honey, I don't know what happened today", I commented under my breath as soon as he had me lying on the bed, but I knew it was a lie.
"Are you sure? This isn't related to the fact that our parents will know about our relationship in a few days?", I hoped he would pretend he didn't know but that wasn't the case, I wasn't going to be able to run away from the subject.
"It's just that I don't like them meddling in our lives, of course I have nothing against your parents, I'll love to be introduced as your girlfriend but my parents will be twice as unbearable", I sighed and hugged the blond once more, if there was one thing that made me better it was this.
"Like my mom isn't going to start a 3 year planning for our wedding after she finds out, but at least they'll be used to it by the end of the summer and we won't have to go through this again", he began to fiddle with my hair and curl the strands between his fingers, slowly my shoulders relaxed and a considerable chunk of my worry faded away.
"Yes, I think so but it's going to be a lot harder for us to be alone now. You definitely won't be stepping foot in my room like you did when we used to play together", the memories flooded back and I felt him smile too, it had been a while since this had escaped my thoughts.
"I don't need to worry about that, we slept together for almost the entire year at Hogwarts and they can't do anything about it and we'll keep doing it", I couldn't see him since my face was buried in his neck, but the perfect image of his mischievous grin formed in my head.
"The question is, will you survive for two months without me? Because I don't see that happening", I teased with a huge smirk as I turned to look him in the eye.
"It won't happen because your father won't be enough to stop me love and I'll make sure you don't have to resort to your hands, because we know it wouldn't be enough", smugness was all over his face and as much as I searched for an answer to that, I didn't have one. Not in the first few seconds.
"Good love, that's good because I'm sure your hands wouldn't do a better job either. In fact, I'd be a little worried if they actually still work, in case we get separated", I had managed to wipe the smirk off his face but I also knew it wouldn't stay that way, revenge was still an overused word in his vocabulary.
A week later, there I was on one of the Hogwarts Express cars with Draco, since we couldn't fit all our friends there anyway, we decided to enjoy the last hours of freedom we had together.
And how quickly it went by, one moment I was chatting with my boyfriend while my puppy slept peacefully in her travel bed and the next, we had arrived and a wave of students were trying to get through the doors at the same time.
We stepped off the train holding hands, while I carried only my baby in the other, and this detail did not escape the trained eyes of our parents who were talking side by side but as soon as they noticed us they stopped.
"For Merlin's sake, you two finally decided to listen to me and are in a relationship now?", my mother's eyes sparkled with excitement and I could already hear her voice asking me all sorts of embarrassing questions. "Narcisa, our family is finally becoming one, this is the best news I could ever receive", she could jump for joy now but because of the good posture of a London high society woman, she did not do that.
"How about dinner at our house today? We have a good reason to celebrate," I had seen his mother smile at me several times but even Lucius Malfoy seemed satisfied enough to show a little bit of his teeth, which is indeed shocking.
My parents agreed to the idea immediately and only one look was exchanged between Draco and me, it only took a single look to know that we both acknowledged it would be an insufferable night.

I don't want Percy to be MC's friend. He's a complete jerk who only cares about himself more than his friends, parents and siblings but at least, he learned his mistake in the last Harry Potter movie. Watch the video called "The Entire Life of Percy Weasley (Harry Potter Explained)"
I can’t say that I agree, anon, though I can understand finding Percy obnoxious, especially in this game. His personality can definitely rub people the wrong way. However, having just watched the video, I have to say that I think it’s very one-sided. I’ll try and go through everything that it talks about - under the cut because I have no filter.
Fred and George
To say that he didn’t like his brothers Fred and George, and that he wanted to control them, isn’t really accurate and it doesn’t acknowledge that whenever Fred and George were mentioned in conjunction with Percy, they were usually bullying him. Vandalizing his Head Boy badge, even though he was proud of having gotten the position and it meant a lot to him. Or the time that they literally sent him dragon dung. Or the time that they tried to leave him for dead in a Pyramid tomb. And it was played for laughs. I’m not condemning Fred and George because they were the human embodiment of the chaos alignment, so it makes sense that they would butt heads with Percy. Brothers pick on each other, I know it happens. But it’s not fair to act like Percy feeling distant from his other siblings was his own fault. Fred and George were really popular with the Weasleys and other kids. Percy, by comparison, was just tolerated. Even though he was the model student and the one who followed rules, and the twins were constantly causing trouble. Why should Percy be ashamed of doing what he’s supposed to do? Why shouldn’t he want attention and validation from his family? Maybe the reason he talked constantly about his accomplishments was because he wanted to be appreciated.
The other Weasleys
Most of the moments where he doesn’t get along with his family in the early books are not moments that Percy himself initiates. It’s primarily Ron, Ginny, or the Twins picking on him. He didn’t even feel like he could tell his family he was dating someone because he guessed (correctly) that they would bully him for it. Speaking of that, Ginny promised she would keep Percy’s secret, and then turned around and told basically everyone.
Despite all this, Percy very clearly cared about his family, well before Deathly Hallows. Like the time he boasted about Ron helping to win the House Cup. The time he tried to comfort Ginny, believing she was upset about Ron. The time he scolded Ron over this and warned him to stop going near the site of the Basilisk attacks because of how it would look. Or the time he watched out for Harry because Mrs. Weasley asked him to, “like an extremely pompous guard dog” as the video says. (Like I said, very one-sided.) Or the time that he refused to let go of Ron after Ron was used as a hostage in the Second Task. The video also attributes the end of Percy’s relationship with Penelope to him working too much in GOF...but there’s literally nothing in the books that ever suggests that.
The Triwizard Tournament
Like Bill, Percy is show constantly shown to be a good leader. He was named Prefect and Head Boy and he utterly embraced the positions. But the video mostly focuses on how proud he was of having gotten these positions and now enough on how he got them...because he earned them. In the same breath as talking about how he would apparate in the house every morning just to prove he could the video also talks about how Crouch barely gave Percy the time of day. Couldn’t be bothered to remember his name and just gave him pointless tasks. Despite how excited Percy was and how eagerly he would talk about all this to the rest of his family, who found it boring and avoided the topic. Percy is all alone in GOF. Even more so than he has been before. It’s really no wonder that he poured himself into his work and looked to the Ministry for support and validation, because he wasn’t getting any at home. He was just being belittled and humiliated at every turn. Of course, once Crouch was imperius’d, Percy thought he was finally getting recognition, but he was just being used. He was being set up as the fall guy. Even the villains are indirectly dismissive of this character!
Because Crouch was out of commission, Percy was having to deal with all his work. So to say that he valued laws and rules over his own family is not only cruel, it’s completely wrong. Percy is resentful of them because to him, it feels like their actions are creating more stress for him at work and ruining that environment for him too. Ruining his dreams. The Ministry (and the video) blames Percy for not figuring out that something was off about Crouch, but it was still the same hand-writing, so why would Percy question it?
The Estrangement
His supposed reprieve came when Fudge hired him as a Personal Assistant. Percy was excited and came home, hoping his Dad would be proud of him. But like always, Percy was disappointed. Arthur was right in his suspicions about why Fudge hired Percy, but that doesn’t matter. What matters is that Percy heard “You aren’t good enough to have gotten this job.” He heard Arthur refuse to believe that he might have actually earned this. That he was succeeding. “No Percy, this job isn’t real. The one person who’s actually valued you in recent memory is just manipulating you and it’s totally our fault for siding with Dumbledore, but I won’t admit to that.” That’s how it felt. And yeah, it was one time too many. The Weasleys have never conveyed to Percy that they appreciate him or want him around, so why should he want to stick around? Why didn’t anyone step in sooner, or come to his defense when he was taking the fall for Crouch? Why is it only when their agenda is threatened that they say something? And Percy is the selfish one? Why should he believe Voldemort has returned? I agree that what he said to Arthur about Arthur’s reputation and their family was horrible...but I think Percy-Antis view this as totally without cause. And the cause is clear.
I take issue with how the video describes Percy slamming the door in Molly’s face “without even giving her a chance.” Because that scene was never depicted. We don’t know what happened or what was said. We don’t know how long the conversation may have lasted. But y’know, if I was Percy, I don’t think I’d even answer the door. He’s made his choice - cut ties with his family. To Molly’s credit, she was one of the only Weasleys who praised his accomplishments...but neither she nor Arthur ever did anything about the constant, constant bullying. That might be pretty hard to forgive, and Percy never receives any apology for it. He’s the only one who apologies in the end.
The letter that Percy sends Ron seems pretty terrible until you look at it from from the perspective that he’s genuinely trying to protect his little brother. Which he has always done in his own way. It’s an olive branch. Look, the word on the street is that Harry Potter is constantly lying and potentially dangerous. Percy might very well have made the judgment call that his family was blinded by their loyalty to him. It’s not like Percy and Harry were ever close. Think about it. After befriending Harry, Ron consistently got involved in dangerous adventures like confronting acromantulas, dementors, devil’s snare, the list goes on. It’s not unreasonable at all that Percy might want Harry to stay away from Ron. I’ll agree that giving Umbridge an endorsement is jaw-dropping...but we don’t see them interact. Umbridge might have put on a completely different face around Percy. Or he might have simply trusted Fudge and repeated his words. We just don’t know.
Fudge’s Departure
Dumbledore said that it’s harder to forgive someone for being right, then it is for being wrong. I’m not going to go off on a Dumbledore-bashing tirade right now, because that’s hardly the point - but while that is very wise advice in general...it completely misses the real point of why Percy left. It doesn’t matter if Dumbledore was right and Fudge was wrong. (Though Percy no doubt felt horrible and humiliated yet again when he realized that.) What matters is that Percy’s family pushed him away and made him feel so isolated that Fudge valuing him was the only good thing going on in his life. Percy leaving doesn’t make him an asshole. But it does say a lot, not about him, that he decided Fudge’s approval and his job at the Ministry were worth moving out and cutting off all contact with his family. Dumbledore's assessment of Percy’s feelings once again ignores any responsibility that his family has in why he left in the first place.I genuinely do love the Weasleys to no end (just look at my URL) but their relationship to Percy was toxic.
Scrimgeour, like Fudge, used Percy to get to the Weasleys, and forced him to pretend that he wanted to see them when he didn’t. Try to imagine being in that position, especially when Molly was the only one who even acted happy to see him. Fred, George and Ginny threw food at him. Literally why would Percy ever want to see them again if this was the welcome that he got? It was already painful for him and they did not make it any easier. Sure, I know that it was probably painful for them too, but they were once again not even considering Percy’s feelings, just their own.
The Battle of Hogwarts
I’ve already talked about how Percy apologies for everything, and the other Weasleys apologize for nothing. Not gonna lie, this is realistic to an uncomfortable level. Family members who have been mistreated wind up being the ones to apologize because they miss their family, even though they often aren’t completely to blame. But this is probably never going to be addressed because immediately after the reconciliation, Fred died. Just imagine how much undeserved guilt Percy felt about that. And then look to the epilogue where there’s one final humorous moment about Harry seeing Percy at King’s Cross and making a mental note to avoid him. Literally nothing has changed. Percy is still the joke of the family. He’s just accepted it because without them, he’s alone. He’s learned to see himself as the problem, and not them.
...I am such a nerd. But I hope you can see where I’m coming from as well. Again, I love The Weasleys. I adore Fred and George. But Percy is not, and was never a bad guy. In some ways, he’s my favorite Weasley. I do love his character arc. But...I just...I wish there had been some apology from the twins as well.

Brave? Bravery is standing up to your enemy. Snape repeatedly tried to Thwart Voldemort, but when he could have stood with the school he ran to Voldemort. Snape only ever did what was best for himself. That is not bravery.
Dude... what? How is it possible to read a book made for children and manage to not understand what's written in it?
So for you, Snape, the spy, the double agent, should have... destroyed his cover and everything he'd worked for the past year, all of that to add one wand to their side, meaning that he'd be targeted by both sides and killed in seconds?
Yeah, smart plan that.
Snape would be dead, Harry would be dead, Ron would be dead, Hermione would be dead. Voldemort would be very alive.
Dudley was a bully. Dudley repeatedly hit children all around him with no remorse. [...] No, I don't think James was a bully, as that statement involves malicious intent of someone else's pain on a repeated basis on a vulnerable other.
James repeatedly hexed student all around him with no remorse. Lily says it. Remus and Sirius say it. The school records say it.
Even, if by some brain dead intervention, you somehow think that James didn't bully Snape, you'd have to willingly ignore the direct quotes from 3 different sources that all say, including James's best friends, that he attacked students just because he felt like it, which is the exact definition you gave for Dudley being a bully.
A quote from the book none ever seem to acknowledge that always fascinated me, Lily does get some sort of petty relish out of Snape's torment in this scene but doesn't ever let anyone see.
So, Lily is just as much of a piece of shit as James, and as Snape too I guess. This make sense, since she was Snape's friend for around 7 years, and then went on to date James.
I never for once believed Snape was vulnerable, let alone never retaliated with just as many horrible things back.
Yeah, I too when I see someone choke on the ground, unable to breathe, being held down forcefully by a group of people think "Lol, that guy's not vulnerable anyway".
If you don't see the extremely obivous power imbalance between Snape and the Marauders, there's nothing I can do for you. You can believe everything you want, but the book tells us that James was a bully.
Even Harry, who hates Snape with every fiber of his being and for good reason, sees what happened, and not only feels sorry for Snape, but relates to him. He understand what that feels like, because Dudley The Bully did the same to him.
Considering Snape is a bully to the entire student population the past years already as a teacher I don't believe for a second he wasn't the same in his youth
Wait wait wait. So, James can go from bully to non-bully in the span of a few months, but Snape, according to you, can't change even one bit in the span of a decade?
James' entire character should not be based around this sole instance as so many people do
"James's entire character". James is barely a character. He exists for two reasons: impregnating Lily, and giving a backstory to Snape. James barely even exists as a character, he's a cardboard cutout of a character. He only exists through the memories of those who knew him.
And yeah, the very few actual, objective scenes that we see of him, are James being an absolute dickhead.
Snape had years to change his behavior both before and after what he did to Lily
Again saying that Snape didn't change.
I don't think it's physically possible to read 7 novels, and come up with such a ridiculous statement. Genuinely, how?
It's not in-depth analysis either that is required here, the books literally show us in one single chapter how Snape went from a scared teenager who desired power and recognition, to a man who was willing to make himself the most hated man of the country after Voldemort (by killing Dumbledore), just to make sure he was destroyed.
He literally went from someone who only cared about saving one life, Lily, to someone who tried to save as many people as he could, to the risk of his own, and including people he hated.
He literally went from a follower of Voldemort, to someone who risked his life to take him down???
Hate Snape all you want, but this kind of bullshit is the dumbest possible take.
Snape is a horrible person and here is why
There is one fact in the books that destroys the whole argument for snape being a good/brave person. And that fact is Lily Evan’s was a king person.
Lily and snape were friends before they even went to school, and then stayed friends for most of school before they went their separate ways. Why did they stop being friends you ask? bc snape was a bad person and lily finally realized it. she then got to be with James, realized that even tho he may be obnoxious, he’s a GOOD PERSON, then fell in love married and had harry.
Good Kind people will always give the benefit of the doubt. Lily knew snapes home situation and she excused his behavior bc of it. But finally when they were getting older and snape started having control over his own decisions lily saw that those decisions didn’t reflect who she thought snape was (a good person who was misunderstood).
Lilys best friend was snape, he was the only friend she had went she went back home! Hell the only person she could really talk to since her sister wouldn’t. Snape was a huge deal to Lily, she wouldn’t have just dropped him for any reason. I imagine she was pretty upset when she realized she’d have to not be friends with him anymore.
Let’s also remember Snape only switched sides bc he yet again didn’t get what he wanted. He did NOT care that harry or james was in harms way, he only cared that lily would be hurt. which is so fucking weird bc if he really loved lilly he would have been happy that she found her soul mate in james. Would have not joined voldeys army, and he would have worked with james and sirius to fix their issues so that lilly could still be a friend in his life.
Anyways, snape was never a good guy, and never will be considering he was a 30 year old man who never got over high school drama. The character we could compare him best to is Ross from friends (and no ross was not a good guy either and rachel deserved better) And Lily evan’s being the icon she is had basically warned us about snape from the beginning.

I really don't understand how magic can't heal Kai. I feel like that doesn't make sense in the universe. Healers would be able to fix him. I just feel like there wasn't enough research done for that and wouldn't make ANY sense. Y'all should've approved that. And if you did, can you give the reasoning because I really don't get it.
First I want to start this by saying that I cannot stress enough that if you have some issue with anything in the roleplay, your absolute best bet is to come off of anon and contact the main in a mature and private fashion. When you do this, it creates a lot less awkwardness, stress and hostility on the dashboard, and it’s a lot easier for us as admins to address and workout situations when you come to us this way. I also want to apologize for the delay. You were clearly impatient for an answer and thought to go and contact the player about this instead of exercising patience, and for that I am sorry. One of your qualms is that you felt no research went into this decision. I felt the need to do a lot of research into what we know from canon about healing spells and dark magic in order to give you an educated response to something that you have legitimate questions about.
To clarify, the detail in question was not something approved by the admins. While we do ask that players consider discussing large and ambitious plots and details with us, we also support our players having freedom to make decisions for the sake of character development. In this case, our Kai player had contacted the main about the attack and having their character seriously injured as a result, and this plot was approved. We have since spoken about the situation, and while some details have been changed to better fit canon, overall the storyline where Kai’s wounds are not easily healed is going to stay in place. My reasoning, as you so desire, is under the cut as to preserve space on the dashboard. If you have any more questions, consider coming off anon and we can have a discussion on it. Otherwise I think I explain this well enough in my answer below the cut:
Now onto the actual question that’s being posed here: Is it probable that Kai couldn’t be healed by magic? In short, yes… and no. One thing that is very irksome about the universe that JK Rowling created is that there really aren’t very clear rules and limitations to the magic system in her wizarding world. Before you come at me with your pitchforks and torches, let me explain this. While this is a fantastical universe and is in many respects realistic, there are also portions of this universe that don’t entirely make sense and lack proper laws to explain things. Healing Magic and the limitations of it are a huge example of this.
We know that healing magic and potions can be used to fix a large number of things, such as: Broken limbs, illnesses like the common cold and the flu, some (and we stress some) instances of memory loss charms, as well as magical illnesses like Dragon Pox, Spattergroit and Vanishing Sickness. But we also know that there are cases of situations where magic couldn’t fix certain calamities and injuries - some of which kind of go with the aforementioned illnesses that are proven to be fixed by magic.
Confusing? Let me elaborate.
So we know that Hermione’s parents were obliviated by her in 1997 to protect them from Voldemort and his Death Eaters. We also know sometime after the battle in 1998, that she was able to return their memories to them. This is an example of magic (to some capacity) being able to cure memory charms. However, we also know that Gilderoy Lockhart’s memory could not be cured after he used a mangled memory charm on himself. Magic couldn’t fix that case of a memory charm. Vanishing Sickness is an illness that causes a wizard’s body parts to disappear. We know that this is a magical ailment that can be healed, but then you have characters like Mad Eye Moody and George Weasley who lost limbs and weren’t able to regain them.
You’re telling me that in a universe where a potion like Skelegro, which can literally regrow a person’s bones, exists it is also not possible for George Weasley’s ear to have been regrown? Or for Mad Eye Moody’s leg and eye to somehow been charmed back into place? Do you see what I’m getting at here? We’re told that magic can cure a lot of things, even fantastical things like vanishing body parts, but then we’re also told that Bill Weasley’s scarring was irreversible, even though Fenrir Greyback was at the time of the attack just a human man with sharp claws. That’s a mundane thing and yet somehow magic could not cure these scars? Or What about the Longbottoms? Frank and Alice Longbottom remain permanently damaged and legally insane because of magical torture, which cannot be fixed. I mean we also know that Luna’s mother, Pandora Lovegood, died because one of her own experimental spells went terribly wrong. Magic went wrong, and it couldn’t be cured. The point is - there are literally no limitations to what magic can and cannot do. In fact, it’s a very conflicting law because some situations are fixable with just a flick of the wand but then some other similar situations are written off as “incurable with magic”.
But there is a common factor in a lot of these medical cases where magic was unable to fix them - a number of them were caused by dark magic. Suddenly there’s a new factor at play.
So let’s talk the specifics here. Kai is unable to be healed by magic, following an encounter with a dark wizard who used a severing spell with an incantation we all know well - Sectumsempra. Let’s look at the canon and what we know about this curse. This is a curse that was invented by Severus Snape that operates almost like an invisible sword being unleashed from the wand and slashing their opponent in the motion of the wand movement. In canon, this spell was used two times - once against Draco Malfoy in Half Blood Prince and then again against George Weasley in the Battle of the Seven Potters. (the aforementioned ear-losing incident) Now going off these canon incidents, we can come to some conclusions that do in fact support the notion that Kai’s wounds from the curse are unable to be healed by magic. Let me elaborate on these.
We know that when George’s ear was lost in the Battle of the Seven Potters that the Order of the Phoenix was unable to regrow his ear, and for two reasons:
Curse Wounds, especially those in the nature of the Dark Arts, are unable to be healed
The counter curse was unknown
This is a curse invented by Severus Snape, this wasn’t a widely known curse at the time of its use in 1997 - there was no counter curse readily available to them, and wounds inflicted by dark magic are unable to be healed. This explains why magic can’t cure the Longbottoms, why they can’t cure the injuries inflicted by werewolf Greyback on Bill Weasley, and why they cannot cure Mad Eye’s missing limbs - because healing magic cannot heal wounds and injuries that are a result of dark magic. The Sectumsempra spell is dark magic.
Now we have to look at another case where this was used in canon - when it was used against Draco Malfoy. From this encounter between Harry and Draco in Half Blood Prince, we learn a couple things about the treatment of the curse. First we know that the spell can be cursed by vulnera sanentur. Kind of. I’m going off of what I found online due to not having a copy of the book before me, but what we know about this spell as a counter to sectumsempra is that it works in stages. The first usage will stop the blood flow, the second will cause the wounds to knit and close, and the third will remove the “worst effects of the curse”. While this may appear as the end all to healing it, it’s also known that the victim will require further medical treatment even after this spell has been used three times. Scarring can only really be avoided if dittany is used immediately.
This is where that conflicting law comes in. So we are told that the curse can be cured… But that certain side effects of it cannot be reversed. This is again because it’s dark magic, and dark magic has a lot of permanent effects. Once again, George’s ear vs. Draco’s body - One effect of this curse was non-reversible, the other was treatable.
Now comes a question I think a lot of us ask when we discuss these issues - This roleplay is set in 2025 - shouldn’t they have figured out a way to cure it by now? Let’s discuss. This curse was created during Severus Snape’s time at Hogwarts, presumably around his fifth year. That was 1975 for all you Marauder’s Era fans. The curse was used again (twice) in 1996/1997. That’s about 21-22 years later, and at that point, no counter curse was found. Our roleplay takes place in 2025 - that’s 28 years after this curse had been used in those two canon occurrences. Given what we know about dark magic having permanent side effects that are irreversible (remember, the ear) and that 22 years after its initial creation there was still no counter curse…It’s actually not bizarre to assume that a counter curse hasn’t been discovered even in 2025. We’re told 19 years after the defeat of Voldemort that “All Is Well”. Considering this isn’t a well known curse and that shortly after its reemergence in the Second Wizarding War that this community ended up in this peaceful sort of euphoric state, it’s really not a stretch to assume that a counter curse was never created for this. It’s actually pretty accurate to assume this isn’t a very well known curse at all. It’s dark magic, it was invented in the late 20th century and it was rarely ever used. I mean there aren’t really counter-curses for the Unforgivables and they’ve been around (presumably) for centuries. And (once more) we know of occurrences regarding the cruciatus curse where the damage sustained was irreversible. Isn’t it therefore pretty safe to assume that a counter curse and full treatment for sectumsempra hasn’t been found even in 2025? Yeah, I think so. So no, it’s not at all unreasonable to assume that a counter curse hasn’t been found.
Really, looking at canon alone, it’s not far fetched to believe that someone would have a hard time being healed by magic when attacked with a dark curse like that one. It’s actually canon to assume so. Therefore, it’s totally reasonable for Kai to have a tough time being healed, even by magic, after being faced with a dark curse like this one. Now as to whether or not it’s probable for a character to be absolutely incurable through magic - this is obviously a very different scenario. Magic can cure the mundane, but there are limits in response to illness and injury inflicted by magic.
In this case with Kai, we have spoken directly with the player and have made changes that don’t interfere too much with the established threads going on and still follow canon as we know it. Kai’s wounds are not going to easily be healed due to the nature of dark magic. I hope that this makes sense and clarifies any of your concerns. If you have more questions please consider coming off anon and we can continue the discussion.

Death Eaters were mostly a bunch of idiots. Careless, impulsive, and simply stupid.
Raven hated to work with them. After all, he had join Voldemort for the same reason he had joined Grindelwald decades before: some cheap thrills. And he was the same sure he would have given it all up soon enough.
Tom Riddle was an ultimately interesting being though: a very skilled wizard, barely human, more broken than Raven. But his insane research for immortality was ridiculous in his eyes. Nonetheless, he was there for thrills and thrills was getting, and that was making Voldemort very satisfied with his methodical, cold and very efficient work.
Which was why he was assigned to the protection and supervision of the newly joined Banshee, apparently very previous for the Dark Lord. Luckily for himself, Nilo had adapted quickly enough to his new, unfortunate condition, even making himself useful as he could.
The attack they had just faced had come totally unexpected. Those weren't even Aurors and it was easy enough to get the best of them and Disapparate.
The smell of blood has gotten very pungent right after, more and more intense every passing minute, in spite of the scent of the wet wood all around them. Raven was probably the only one who could detect it and it was clear it wasn't human.
He turned to Nilo, who was desperately trying to pull his coat tight. When they locked eyes, the Banshee appeared in heavy distress, but didn't say a word. Raven understood his concern, he was surely afraid the Death Eaters would have killed him there and then once they realized he could no longer travel.
He casually grabbed Nilo's arm, silently signaling to slow his pace. Once they got at the end of the group, Raven held him tighter and Disappeared with him.
He brought him to the first place that came to his mind, an abandoned cabin they had passed a few minutes before. It surely wasn't luxurious, but at least it was dry and clean.
"Show me." He ordered. Without waiting for an answer, he tugged Nilo's coat open. The Banshee shivered, his whole body twitched. He must have been in awful pain. He was horribly pale and looked about to pass out.
Raven threw Nilo's arm around his neck, and lifted him up with no effort at all. He carried him to the bed to the very corner of the cabin and laid him down there very carefully.
Then he gently undo his clothes till he uncovered the wound. It didn't look good, not at all. Raven had never healed a Banshee before, he had no idea if common Magic would have worked on him, but he had no other plan.
"This might be very painful, and totally ineffective too. Don't move, and please don't wail. I can't stand it." he asked the Other.
"Vulnera Sanentur." he softly spelled. To his own surprise, the wound actually sealed. The Banshee though didn't look any better.
Raven touched his face, he was burning up, and still panting. He doubted that was anyhow normal, even for his kind.
"The bleeding stopped." he explained, while drying the other and himself up with his wand. "I'm going to start a fire, we are staying here till you're fit enough to travel."
Then he took his own coat off and cover the Banshee with it. "You're under my supervision, don't you dare dying."
@the-raven-dhampir asked 👀 19. wrapping up (or trying to hide) a wound Or 5. dancing/standing in the rain For your muse Nilo please
Voldemort got whatever he wanted. So when he requested to have a banshee to help predict his death and to use his wail as tool, that was exactly what Voldemort was going to get. Unfortunately, Nilo happened to be that unfortunate banshee. The first couple of weeks with the death eaters had been bad. He tried to escape, he tried to fight them, he was consistently in trouble. But he was quickly learning how to adapt to this new life. The small group of death eaters he always had around him for protection had become something he'd started to accept. He did as he was told. He went where they took him. If needed to wail, then they would be there. It simply was that he belonged to the death eaters and Voldemort.
Nilo was travelling in that group to something he didn't quite understand beyond that he was required to be at. When there was an attack of sorts. When ever events like that occurred, Nilo knew he had to trust the death eaters. He held no magic himself, and using his wail was exhausting. That attack, he'd gotten hurt. A spell must have come flying his way, he wasn't quite sure, but his side was bleeding and bleeding badly. Instead of alerting anyone he hid it. He tugged his jacket round tighter and tried to make sure none of them could see. Everything was done, and they were all preparing to get out of there. Nilo gripped his coat tighter as he moved next to the person he'd be travelling with. Briefly catching eyes with Raven as he shifted his coat more.
In a blink of an eye they were all gone and in the next location. It was raining heavily, which worked well for Nilo to keep his coat tightly pulled. But he looked eyes with Raven again. He was certain the other had seen what he was hiding. He was certain that Raven had seen Nilo trying to hide that he was bleeding out right now. But he didn't do well with this type of help he avoided like the plague and right now was no expectation.

"Snape is a blood supremacist."
No canonical proof. He only said a blood supremacist slur once and never again. And the one time he did, he said it in a moment of pure humiliation and distress. An act for which he apologized and blamed himself. There is absolutely nothing in any of the books that shows he is a blood supremacist. On the contrary, we even know that he prepared the mandrake-based potion to cure petrified muggleborns or ordered to Phineas Black to never used the term "Mudblood" again.
"The marauders weren’t “picking on him” just to pick on him."
James literally used the fact that Snape "exists" to justify going to attack him with the Marauders at the Black Lake.
"I’m pretty sure the pants-ing scene was in response to him calling Lily a slur, but even if it’s not, he still called Lily a slur."
And so ? Does that justify a sexual assault ?
"Remember, this is the woman he claims to ‘love’, even though he’s also on board with blood supremacy that would see her killed"
He was groomed by future Death Eaters for 7 years straight since the age of 11 and join them only because he was powerless (stated by JK). There's no evidence that he knew anything about their plans at the time and he's even never shown to be a supporter of their ideology.
"Snape was a bad person. He started as a bad person, he ended as a bad person."
He just saved the entire Wizarding World, defected from Lord Voldemort, being a spy for 17 years or protected and saved children/adults many times with no regard for his own life. He literally went through hell to save everyone and to bring peace to the Wizarding World with nothing in return but yeah, clearly a "bad" person.
"The only reason he ever did anything for Dumbledore was because of his obsession with Lily."
Fanon bullshit. There’s nothing in the books that states Snape was obsessed with her. He completely respected Lily’s wishes and never talked to her again after she ended their friendship. Also, his Patronus changed to match hers and Patronuses are light and pure magic. It would not respond to obsessive feelings/behaviour from Snape to Lily.
"If Lily hadn’t died for Harry, Snape would still be a wizard Nazi. Like???"
Biaised speculations. Not an argument.
And for the fan cast :
"I think your casting was lazy. Not too much more to say about it. I think it’s lazy to stick white actors into Asian roles."
Moral lesson. I don't care. Not much else to say either.
"I think it’s lazy to stick white actors into Asian roles. You could have researched East Asian actors, or looked at fan casts made by people who know of more East-Asian actors. Some of the actors you chose were pretty obscure so I’m assuming you did some research"
I didn't do any specific research, I mostly chose actors from movies and series I watch. My choices are based on similar roles they have played before and their vibes. So I wasn't going to base my choices on actors and actresses I don't know anything about just because they are Asian.
What I commented on a fan cast…
I give it 24 hours before white weebs ✨eviscerate✨ me.
It’ll be the YOI fujoshi thing all over again!
