i think im playing revelations wrong

so it seems the exclamation mark i kept avoiding was actually just an introduction to recruiting potential assassins and doesn’t start sequence 3 like i thought... i just avoided it as long as possible and did everything else i could. explored every corner i had access to got almost all the treasure chests on my map and lit up all the templar towers... they were so easy what the heck. i guess it’s bc the borgia towers gave me ample training and i developed a foolproof strat for these. but i still feel like there’s fewer guards around or the captains are in really easy spots or smth. they’re just a lot easier than the borgia towers which is a bit sad. still cool tho

so i went through all that the entire time wondering when i’d get recuits lmao. getting recruits is a bit more creative this time like there’s ones that are exactly like in brotherhood where you just kill some guards but here the citizen can die (idk if that was possible in brotherhood) and some are actual very short side-quests which is really fun. also none of the towers are locked so you can just destroy all of them then save like 12 citizens and you’re set. now instead of pigeon coops we have crafting tables that basically serve the same function but you can also make bombs with htem?? somehow?? they don’t really show up on the map tho so that sucks.

also the hideout in this game is a lil bit... annoying... there’s always other assassins around who react to you walking past which i like but it’s so confusing i always get lost there and i just can’t find shit lol. don’t like the structure or the music of the place eh

speaking of bombs you can find all sorts of ingredients in treasure chests and you can craft bombs with them provided you’re introduced to the bomb somehow. there’s also a black market guy who can sell you bombs provided you find him when he shows up on the map. and yea it’s kinda cool like different bombs do different things and they’re good for distracting guards for example so you can get a treasure chest or smth. buuuuuut you can also only have 3? types of bombs at once and only four pieces of one bomb. which. makes me not want to use them and instead rely on the crossbow which works great most of the time and now i can have 25!!!! bolts

eh idk i don’t think the crafting part is really well explained at least so far. also this game’s collectible is the animus data fragments or whatever, there’s like 100 of them. i havent been vibing wiht hte modern storyline in this game and i honestly have no idea what the fragments do so i dont really feel like hunting them down... i’ll still try to get one if i happen to see it but yea.

there’s also this horrible slomo effect when you do a chain kill? or something? idk it only shows up on the last guy you kill i think and it’s so annoying pls why. like some thigns are a bit slower bc ezio is older and stuff but that just breaks the gameplay pace and i hate.

i do love ezio tho like i haven’t /seen/ much of him bc ive barely seen anything of the plot but every time he speaks he sounds so much calmer and more mature, and the things he says are so???smart??? and the game fits that vibe, it’s all so very chill, even the guards are less likely to attack you for no reason. well there’s guards on roofs with shotguns which i hate with a burning passion but i don’t actually spend a lot of time on the roofs so it’s fine.

also the templar awareness system in this game isn’t that bad. igniting a tower doesn’t actually increase it and you can just bribe a herald then turn a corner then come back and bribe him again if needed. there’s also these templar stalkers that kinda show up out of nowhere and you could hunt them down if you wanted to but if they attack you you can just hit x and they’ll die, and it decreases your awareness significantly soooooooooooo i kinda like them

there’s also a tower defense minigame that everyone seems to hate but that i havent seen at all outside of the tutorial bc it only happens if the templar try to take back a den you took over, which in turn only happens if your awareness goes way up. which im paranoid about and i never let it happen. altho ive heard they kinda stop attacking if you take over all of their dens??? i havent tested it out yet but that’d be fun lmao. 

but yea im having a pretty good time, its a lot of fun. i haven’t played as much as i wanted to this week bc ive been pretty busy irl and that’s prob how it’ll be next week too, but its fine i dont wanna rush through this game, i’d rather just take my time and enjoy the experience while it lasts. i hope there’s some cool collectible other than the animus fragments and the treasure chests so it doesn’t end up feeling too short. oh and also appearances of other characters we know and love such as leonardo and claudia and all them :’)))))))

i was a slutty lil dan and phil fan lmao. which i say with truly the most love and affection - i am very genuinely grateful for my time in what i would consider a very wholesome, supportive, and tight-knit community cause i think it really gave me the confidence and encouragement to keep writing and trying out new things (lmao)

3. Do you write fics from start or finish, or jump around?

mmm although i will put some dialogue or thought snippets into my discord for later use, i really genuinely cannot jump around while writing? and that's partly the fault of my characters, sometimes they just go off and do smth totally unexpected and i have to follow that train even if it goes off the rails lmao

4. Do you outline before you start writing? If so, how far do you stray from that outline?

lksdfjkl yeah this kinda goes along with the last one - i really cannot outline sdlkfjklsdf and there's a couple things that go into that? first is, ofc, characters do not like to do what i say lmao

which, i feel like i see this said a lot but without any explanation behind it for people who may not write/who might not get what this means? for me at least, it's not so much that characters 'have a mind of their own' exactly, it's more that once i get into the story, there might be decisions or actions or dialogue that comes up as i'm going and feels very natural to the characters/circumstances that it would feel forced or inorganic to ignore or to steer in a different direction. and sometimes, it leads the plot or characters in a direction i hadn't really thought about from an outside ("planning", i say very vaguely) perspective?

so there's that component lmao which often renders a lot of outlining or planning moot. but the other piece is that i suffer from 'end of the story' syndrome which i have just invented right now but basically, if i know how a story ends, i sorta...feel done? with it? and it's not so much like 'i know they get together at the end so i'm done' but more like. if i have a more solid concept of the specifics of the ending (events, dialogue, etc), my brain likes to tell me that i'm finished with the story - even when i'm only partway through, or close to the end lmao. so planning smth from the start (in what i'd typically consider an outline) tends to deter me from actually working on the story lmao

but! i do usually have some sense of direction at least, just a matter of how exactly i get there - ends like 'they get together' or 'this problem is resolved by this action/choice' or smth are usually vague enough to keep me motivated to see how exactly it plays out in the end lmao

13. Is there a trope you wouldn’t write if it was the last trope on earth?

uhhhhhh,,,,,,,,are there any that i detest that much? tbh i think i could be convinced to try writing anything once lmao. i think there are probably kinks i'd never write just cause i think i'd fail to emulate the vibe of like "this feels sexy" but trope-wise? there's probs stuff i wouldn't write often or more than once, but i'm always up for a challenge lmao. i have joked before that i think i could write 1k about pretty much anything, and i think i could write smth that i had a good time writing with the right story behind the trope

SANGYEON - MIRRORS AND PILLOWS

mirrors make a place look bigger than it really is - i feel like sangyeon has that ability to make you feel like you’re more important on your worst days

the things he’ll do just to make sure you’re alright, even when he knows you’re not

he also has the ability to reflect what you need: sad? he’ll come and hug you and let you cry or talk about your shitty day. happy? he’ll joke about the way you snort while laughing then he’d probably do something dumb to keep the energy up there

mirrors also feel very private and at-home, and that exactly how i feel he curates an environment

pillows are self-explanatory ig, smth to cry into, smth to fall asleep with while hugging, has the best homely scents ever, very comfortable

i imagine going home after a long day and finding your partner also tired, but he’s cooking or like in the couch watching tv and he just invites you into his arms uwu

JACOB - FLOWERS AND MUSIC

ok like jacob with a guitar is just a stellar sight to behold, he looks like he was born to hold one, and his vocals are super underrated imo, most of tbz’s discography doesnt really suit his voice - i really wish he had a chance to have more lines in more ballads or maybe even a solo thing

he would drag you out to go on walks after he knows you’ve buried yourself in your work the whole day, and he’d be the kind to stop at a pretty flower and contemplate plucking it but he wouldn’t cause he’s a fairy and wouldn’t hurt a fly, much less a pretty flower

would probably play a piece in the background while you’re stressed w work and hum a tune so the singing wouldn’t distract you

he definitely radiates tsundere vibes on first sight, but when you get to know him, he’s obviously the opposite: a crybaby

but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t keep up his model-like appearances when he’s outside - in fact, he’d be the one to influence you into caring more about how you look (of course not materialistically, but more into actually caring about making yourself feel good with your fashion and appearance)

i chose winter coats as a symbol of coverage - he doesn’t show much of himself unless he’s close to you (like when you wear winter coats to keep warm, he’s a burrito because he doesn’t bother too much about sharing his feelings), but when he does, it feels like he has the ability to keep you warm and comfortable, even on the coldest days, even if his inner savage comes out

it’ll be like he scooped you into his coat and has you warm in one of this inner breast pockets

i see him as the kind to get regular coffee and like, a tart or something, at a cafe. it adds on to the warmth, when he remembers what you like. the details. maybe you like your coffee with cinnamon or less sugar or something, but then he tops it up with a muffin and he knows you like it heated up so he specifically asks for them to do so

ok but he’s defo the kind of guy that catches people’s attention at public spaces so every now and then when he’s laughing or smiling, some girl would gawk at him and he would be embarrassed about it, but lucky for you, you’re already wearing matching coats so they know the man’s taken uwu

HYUNJAE - CONCERTS AND CONVENIENCE STORE DATES

classy but calm. dream-like but realistic. 

i say concerts as in the instrumental, ballad kinds. he loves it and he knows you probably need the sleep where you have that kind of background white noise/music that provides you the best quality of sleep there is. but when you’re not dosing off, he’s admiring how much time you’re willing to invest into being at something he loves

of course, in turn, he doesn’t complain much when you’re hungry and you meet him down the street at the nearest convenience store for some instant noodles and potato chips with a coke and he lets you ramble about your day 

he would probably buy you an ice cream just so you’d feel better, then regret it when you get a stomachache later cause it was like 2am in the morning

you probably have like 5 of his hoodies at home that you refuse to wash cause his scent is tainted all over it and the only time he gets to take them home is when he stays over or visits and he sneaks one into his bag when you’re in the kitchen making tea or a bowl of noodles

then you’ll get it back without even knowing it was gone

the kind that would probably surprise you after a day of work with a casual date idea to the movies, and i mean showing up at your place, impromptu, after he knows you’re home with two tickets

JUYEON - STARGAZING AND VR GAMES

as dumb and sometimes bimbotic as he seems he is, he’s gotten most of the visible constellations memorised and he would not hesitate from telling you all about his childhood with his family when they would travel and try to spot every single constellation they can remember

which brings me to the point where he remembers what you like, but... backhandedly. he doesn’t remember what you like but he remembers what you hate instead, so you don’t ever have to worry about getting that licorice flavoured jelly bean

he would offer a midnight walk to help you relieve your stress, cause he knows you just like seeing the nightsky amidst the peace and quiet while he rambles on for his own satisfaction. not everything has to be so emotionally attached and shared. you can share blissful moments without being the reason for each other’s and that’s totally fine.

juyeon is kind of a scaredy cat in the sense that he isn’t really into horror movies or games but he’s always had that dream to become a pilot and so for his birthday, you brought him to a vr game arcade where he played some plane simulator and ever since, you’ve been taking turns to surprise each other with a new vr arcade spot or adding on to the vr game console set you have at home

KEVIN - KARAOKE SESSIONS AND NEON LIGHTS

the best-friend kind of partner you would come across once in a lifetime

a billion film shots of you after he drags you to the karaoke and he beats you at super intense songs like the bohemian rhapsody just cause he can hit those high notes and solely because he was screaming on the floor when he did it

almost left his film camera behind 

absolutely LOVES those walks along streets where there are a million neon lights

would come across that one sus neon light signs that indicate a sex toy store and he would give you that sly smile and probably joke for you to go in

sometimes he’s a drama queen but that makes it alot easier for you to know what he’s thinking or feeling - it makes communication alot easier

he’s also very empathetic but straightforward, exactly like how comedy shows are - because they are relatable, they are funny because they bring out the irony and sarcasm and all the dumb things in life that people are sometimes afraid of talking about and hak just says whatever he wants to say, even if he knows it might be hurtful or upsetting

beach walks - very calming, very liberating. he lets you yell and scream and kick sand back into the water because you can, and he does it with you

very, very competitive and does not like to lose

you would always play the ‘ladies first’ card but then he’d throw the ‘feminism’ card back at you

Hello, Icarus! Please infodump to me about Danganronpa?

okay so! I had written out a whole thing but then tumblr deleted it! so that was fun! /s but now that I know what I'm going to write it's much easier, so that's good 😌

n e ways, I'm gonna do like a basic timeline w explanations and some other stuff that hopefully I'll remember once I start writing!! so let's go :D

a list of everything danganronpa in chronological order (not the order that you should play/watch the stuff in, I'll put that in the explanations)

Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak High School - Despair Arc (DR3) - second anime, watch along with the Future and Hope arcs after playing the first two games (and UDG if you want to). backstory for the cast of the second game.

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc (THH) - first main game, play first. also has an anime that's basically the same as the game, but since there's not enough time to put everything from the game into the anime I definitely recommend playing the game. high school students from a prestigious school trapped in said school are forced to play a killing game, hijinks ensue.

Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls (UDG) - third game, not main. play after playing the first two games. very different game mechanics from the main three, and widely considered not cannon by the fandom. I like it though, and it introduces a lot of really interesting characters along with giving a v underdeveloped character from the first game a lot more character development. it's not necessary to play it (though one of the characters plays a pretty big part in the third anime, so that would make more sense if you already knew her), but I think it's interesting and fun. there are also robot fights.

Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair (DR2 or SDR2) - second main game, play after playing the first game. same basic premise as the first game, except it's a different class (same school though) and this time they're on an island. even more hijinks and plot twists than the first game.

Super Danganronpa 2.5: Komaeda Nagito to Sekai no Hakaimono - (I could only find the Japanese title for this one, sorry 😔) kinda also part of the second anime? watch after playing the first two games (and UDG if you want) and watching DR3. character is woken up from a coma via overdramatic and overpowered other character.

Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak High School - Future and Hope Arcs (DR3) - second anime, watch along with the Despair arc after playing the first two games (and UDG if you want to). aftermath of the first two games.

Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony (DRV3) - third main game, fourth game in total. I don't actually know when it happens bc they're v secretive about everything, so I'm just putting it last. play last. same premise as the first two, the class is trapped in a school with a courtyard and a huge sort of dome around everything. peak hijinks, too many plot twists to count.

woo!! that's the timeline as I know it, hopefully I didn't miss anything. and I have managed to remember what else I was going to say, so let's move on to section two:

the mechanics of the games

danganronpa is, at its core, a glorified visual novel. every character has a certain amount of sprites for when they talk, as well as voice lines that aren't usually the exact text on the screen but fit the vibe of whatever they're saying. and as I've said before, there's quite a lot of talking. these games have more plot than should really be possible and most or all of it is done through dialogue. cutscenes and class trials are the only parts that are reliably fully voice acted, but there are a lot of those.

as for the parts that are less visual novel-y: you can walk around, and the settings are pretty much as 3d as the 2d-ish style of the game allows. you can also click on things, and sometimes clicking on stuff will get you monocoins, the currency of the game, which means you'll be able to buy presents for the characters!!

"now why do I need presents for the characters?" you ask. well, that's because you're given a certain amount of free time each game to hang out with characters you want to get to know better! the game's ending is fixed, so you won't change the course of the game by who you do or don't hang out with, but you can learn more about characters and become closer to them! giving them presents they like makes them like you more :D

and the most exciting part of danganronpa, what a lot of people play the games for, the true lure of the game.... the class trials!!

so these characters are in a killing game, right? basically, they're faced with a sort of lose-lose predicament: stay trapped in the school forever, or kill one of your classmates to "graduate". but it's not as simple as that, because in order to graduate, you can't be caught. and how do you determine whether or not a criminal has been found out? well, a trial of course!

enter the class trials. every student (barring dead or severely wounded ones) is required to participate in a kind of mock trial- except someone's really dead, and they need to find the murderer or they'll all die too.

(right, did I forget to mention that? only one person can graduate. getting out alive insures that none of your classmates get the luxury of doing the same.)

so, yeah. the class trials are a true fight for life on both sides, because who ever loses will be executed.

and they're really, really fun.

entirely voice acted! enough minigames that the list of them is probably longer than this entire post! the joy of solving the mystery! the... execution, right in front of everyone.

hey, it's a dark game. not like they're trying to hide that. and the executions aren't actually all that gory most of the time, but they're still very much there and onscreen. also as close to fully animated as the games ever get, which is pretty cool.

so how the class trials work is this:

there's a murder. dun dun duuuun. you investigate everywhere related to the murder to get "truth bullets", which are the reason you don't immediately fail at the trials. you don't have to remember all of them, they're all written down in your e-handbook. plus, the protagonists all seem to have really good memories.

time for the actual class trial!! Monokuma (asshole bear running the killing game) introduces everything, explains the rules. and everyone starts talking.

there are a lot of different parts to the class trial, but most of it is "nonstop debates". everyone talks one after the other, and you have to find inconsistencies and shoot the right "weak spot" with the right truth bullet. you refute the lie or mistake and everyone goes back to arguing normally.

there's also hangman's gambit (weird hangman to find a key word), multiple choice things (self-explanatory), and plenty of others.

near the end of the trial (or sometimes only a little over halfway in, it varies), the killer will.... kind of become obvious. there's a specific kind of change in behavior that's the mark of the murderer in these games, but I'm not sure how to describe it exactly. a lot of times there's an accent change, and in general they start acting much more erratic. since it's a trial, though, even after this presents itself you still have to prove your case beyond reasonable doubt.

and once it's become clear to the killer that they're backed into a corner, you have to do the "bullet time battle". it goes by different names in different games, but the basic mechanics are the same: you battle against a student (usually the killer, but not always) in a rhythm-based battle where you have to click to the rhythm to refute your opponent's statements. once you've dealt enough damage, you shoot the final piece of evidence, and that's the end of it.

the murderers react differently different times. sometimes they break down and confess. sometimes they keep denying it. sometimes, they're just calm. however they act, though, the end is the same. they are caught and punished accordingly.

but before that, there's one more thing to do. the closing argument.

your final task is to explain how the murder was committed, from idea to execution (look, a pun! see I can be funny too 😌). and you have to do it... as a manga.

you don't have to draw the whole thing yourself ofc- you just have to fill in the missing panels and then watch as the protagonist narrates it to the rest of the class.

and that's all for the class trial, not counting the long talks after every execution while still in the courtroom.

wow, this is getting...... really, really long. there's only one more thing I'm gonna add, and I promise it will be much shorter than the other two bc it is late and I am officially Incredibly Fucking Tired.

with no further ado, a very short part three:

my general impression of the game. its vibes or smth, I dunno this is just what i think about it

when I first heard of danganronpa, I thought it was a horror game. I can now assure you that it is not. thriller? maybe. debatable. but definitely not horror.

and despite its extremely dark premise, this game is not all doom and gloom. there's so much stuff about hope, and overcoming despair even when it seems impossible... it's not exactly a happy game, but there's a lot more of that in there than you'd probably expect.

all in all, I love this game. so much. it means a lot to me, and I think it's a really good game. thanks for letting me talk about it so much asdhfd :D

Not quite sure how original the thought is, but I think I came up with a way to make The Force Awakens not just a ln A New Hope clone. It’s real simple and really only requires two changes.

The first one is simple; change the opening planet (that Rey lives on) from Tatoonie 2: Jaku Boogaloo to Corescant.

Poe does the exact same shit, just instead of desert camp #65, it’s docking platform #69 which happens to be a resistance cell tasked with Intel gathering on the husk of the imperial throne world. While he’s talking with the old guy, BB8 is just vibing as per usual, noticing all the handy dandy maintanence batches that would be great for future escapes.

Then Kylo and the white boys rock up in their shuttle, slaughter everyone as per the original, and BB8 ditches through one of the aforementioned tunnels. Kylo and gang then rock back to their star destroyer vibing behind a moon or some shit. It’s been like thirty, fifty years. They can invent cloaking tech or smth. Doesn’t really matter.

Then we cut to Rey, still a tech scav working for fat guy, just this time the trade stall is in the middle of a lower floor. She still rips pieces from old imperial trash (cause imperial throne world) and she can still live in some decaying ATAT. Preferably one that pokes its head into a big exhaust shaft so she can get that scenic staring shot, but instead of a copied twin suns, it’s at the premise of natural light and clean air at all.

She then returns home to the second big change; a friend or two she works with. Who they are or what they do doesn’t really matter. What does is we establish Rey cares about them, and that, through accident, she leaves them behind, but promises herself to return to rescue them. This is important for later.

Shit happens as per original, with Boyega escaping with Poe (though this time Poe surviving makes a lot more sense and builds his abilities, cause he can later return in his built or “borrowed” ship). He finds Rey, they find droid, blah blah, but now when the white boys find them, finding the Falcon makes a lot more sense.

When Han lost the ship, it should not have been dumped on Samuri Jack- the Return Of Jaku, it should have been run to the busiest hub imaginable and returned to its original use; smuggling. With the opening now on Courscant, it makes sense when Rey and Boyega (Finn! Just remembered his name) stumble across and swipe it.

The movie can then continue as it did (with a moment where Rey marvels at space and light and shit, as well as makes that aforementioned promise)

End up at temple place with little orange lady. Death Star 3, the split pea fires, but now, as we watch corscant (never did find out if that’s what got dusted) get wasted blasted, WE CARE! Cause now we get a brief shot of Rey’s friends being turned into little crimson people char.

On temple planet, instead of Rey getting insta yoinked by MC Edgelord, she can instead feel the physic backlash of her close friends biting the dust, and this, while introducing her to the force (making her later power usage less Mary Sue-esque) also weakens her so Tall Dark And Dumb Saber design can insta catch her.

Then the rest of the movie can play out exactly the same, but now everything, at least in my eyes, fits better and has a touch more impact. While it is still SIMILAR to the original, it also takes its own risks and plays the universe more, making it unique while also playing things safe.

But yeah. Just was in a writing mood but couldn’t pick something and this popped into my head. Can’t really think of how best to save the rest of the trilogy, (aside from not playing director yo-yo with it) but yeah. Felt like with this two little changes, the first one would have bumped from a 6/10 to 7.5-8/10.

Personal preference though. Let me know what y’all think.

BITTERSWEET AF,,, sort of just treading the line of ‘hopeful’ and ‘hopeless’ at all times to fully portray the feeling of being at your lowest, but with that classic tss ‘silver linings just around the corner’ kind of undertone

hHH theres actually a LOT of scenes like that and i think a lot of my general motivation to keep going comes from that ‘WAIT FOR IT WAIT FOR IT’ vibe slkdf:SDF but the Plot Twist tm in the latest chapter was definitely a big’n, and theres a few more of those still to come :^)

i actually have a short list of what i somewhat consider to be the story arcs in my notes !! mostly just for organization and obvs i wont list the future ones but so far we’ve seen the kushtaka arc, the enki arc, and now we’re in what i call ‘the annunaki’ arc.

🎢- Were there any scenes you were nervous about? For audience reception or otherwise?

ALL OF IT JSHDJSKD, but again a lot of the enki scenes i was worried would be too edgy TM, and the whole annunaki plot as well i was worried might be too ‘out there’ for ppl, but it takes the story exactly where i always wanted it and lines everything up perfectly so i went for it lol. i was also ofc worried if people would like ila or not bc oc but most ppl love her actually which is so 😭❤️

probably ! ive learned i definitely like the edgy/darker and emotionally driven stories with ongoing plot, so that trend will almost definitely continue. idk if ill write a dystopia again anytime soon, but i think my future stuff will at least retain that long and heavy vibe

oh yEA like basically i was ready to quit after the very first chapter before it was even written and kinda just got it all out on a whim of motivation but was expecting to flake on it like i tend to do with projects, but the invested response to it was just so uplifting that its what ive been riding on all ten chapters and im so grateful for it :’)))

hHHHHHHH yes and ok this is terrible but i actually tend to avoid re-reading my older chapters until i hAVe to bc i suffer from that sO much ,,, , its just little things like tiny words i wanna change or bits i wanna take out/put in and once or twice ive even caught a mistake or plot hole/smth i forgot to add that i rly do have to go back and edit and i just turn to dust every tim e

i really liked the northern lights scene!! it was meant to be a pivotal moment of that ‘bittersweetness’ vibe i was talking abt and it was another one of those scenes i had been planning for a while;;;

isdfhSDF YEs, part of my hesitation to write came from this thing where i always just assumed there was a wildly high standard of writing in fandom spaces like in original literature spaces, where you had to have like 10+ sentences to a paragraph and you had to describe every tiny detail of a setting and you had to follow every single grammar rule or it was unreadable but like. genuinely its like sculpting with words as long as you have a shape ppl get the idea which is such a weight off my shoulders lol, its still a lot of work but so much fun to know i can to an extent do what i want and ppl actually like it like that. i also learned that like most other writers i have to cause my favs emotional and physical pain,

🎁- Any writing advice for people who want to write something like this?

hhHHHH 1. please do it its so fun just give in to the edge my guy , 2. try to get comfortable re-reading your chapters, for me its like when ppl listen to themselves sing/act but im trying to do better bc its so much more consistent when i keep it fresh in my mind and it also boosts confidence when u can pick out the things u like instead of the things u dont, 3. trying to have at least one scene in mind for each chapter that ur excited to write so u can have motivation to update faster! for me it doesnt have to be smth i think would excite the audience either like it could be the most basic thing but just having an idea of it and knowing i want to see it come to life rly helps me stay on top of it all

Stranger things is still horror though?

i mean not really, but also thats not exactly what I mean.

Stranger Things season one homaged the 80s not just by references to things from that time like brands and pop culture, their storylines followed 80s movie archetypes. I've posted about this before but my tags are dead so i can't search my blog for it so I'll just say it again.

There's three clear narratives in Season One, the Kids, the Teens, The Adults. The kids' narrative follows the 80s movie archetype of the family friendly Steven Spielberg esque movies, it's reminiscent of E.T. and The Goonies. Then the teens' narrative is teen horror, which was the most popular horror genre in the 80s. Mainly slashers, but rather than that it has more of a Nightmare on Elmstreet vibe, also obviously Alien which wasn't a teen movie but s1 Nancy specifically does seem to draw some inspiration from that end. Then the adults' follow a more thriller/crime archetype. The season overall had a very strong horror vibe that I feel the following seasons haven't been able to keep up, but Season Three especially was a huge offender, the season was very slapstick and any attempts to take itself seriously like when Nancy and Jonathan are in the hospital felt a bit like tonal whiplash imo.

Season Two narratively lost that tight 3 narrative structure, after watching it the first time I thought they had just switched which group was in the family friendly versus horror versus crime thriller (i feel like crime thrillier isnt the best way to describe that archetype, the narrative always has smth to do with the government, but im drawing a blank on a better 80s genre to describe it with) with the kids in horror and the teens dealing with the crime thriller, but Steve genre jumps a few times, the adults don't really fit the Spielberg description, and the teen's narrative becomes VERY weighed down by general teen genre cliches. I can't just point and define it anymore. And then Season 3 is even looser. It seems rather than sticking with 80s archetypes to parody they decided they were just parodying,, the 80s, leaning into the fact that they could just point at something decade specific and the audience would chuckle and press the nostalgia button, and probably realizing that their audience was a lot more adolescent heavy then they probably expected a horror tv show centered around making people from the 80s feel nostalgic would attract so they didnt really need to be accurately 1980s so much as capture the aesthetic and idea of it (cartoonishly 80s fashion and retro visuals in season 3 with less subtle references to the culture and mindset of the 80s that any american teen could recognize like the red scare mindset and vintage brands). The villains are all different recognizable 80s villain archetypes, The 3 separate narratives have divided even further, etc. They also don’t feel as necessary, in season one each narrative came to a strong revelation before they all connected, forming different pieces of the puzzle that would solve the problem. This season the Scoop Troop didn’t really help any bigger picture, they dug themselves a hole and then had to get out of it, Nancy and Jonathan contributed nothing but the Worlds Most Underwhelming Relationship You’re Somehow Supposed To Root For, Joyce and Hopper’s narrative was “Looking into political corruption in the town turned looking into russians in the town turned oh shoot there’s a monster? better go deal with that, but also none of this matters as much as our relationship issues”, and the kids were just slowly finding their way to the final monster showdown scene, which felt incredibly anticlimactic when the monster plot had often taken a sideline and even when it wasn’t it was less engaging enough that you were kind of just waiting for them to go back to the Scoop Troop. I mean I guess The Scoops team needed to explore the evil.. russian facility... underneath the mall...... god this season was so cheese, so that they could lead Hopper and Joyce to where they could close the gate, but aside from that it all felt unnecessary, they would’ve encountered the monster so that they could face off and kill it no matter what they did because it had a personal vendetta against El and was literally looking for her. At this point the show is just “80s Nostalgia and Whatever Fanservice We Saw Requested The Most Online In Between The Last Season And Now”.

i don't feel like any of my fics are overrated? maybe the old drarry one but that one was while i was still on the german server so it doesn't count. i am, however, rather baffled at the amount of kudos this drabble got? it's literally just 200 words of dumb utter nonsense but it has a hundred more kudos than "on crossing paths" which is 5k long?? it's also my first and so far only fic that got translated? of all my fics this is what someone wanted to translate?? like, i wouldn't call it overrated, it's not like it's a popular fic or smth, but it did get more attention than any of my other drabbles and i just.. don't know why? but it's whatever lol

wednesday: name a fic which you have posted which you think is underrated?

"in another time" for sure. in comparison to my other winteriron fics, this one got much less attention and i just don't know why. it's still my proudest fic but... idk. doesn't seem to resonate with others.

also some of my sarahbucky ficlets, though ngl it's mostly the lack of attention on the boards than the fics that have me disappointed. i put way more effort into those than the drabbles, i'm not going to deny it. but the secret lovers fic and the last one i posted? i'm pretty proud of those, but those are exactly the ones with the fewest notes...

friday: most self-indulgent fic you have ever posted?

difficult to tell since everything i write is what i want to read. except for a few prompts maybe. those just happened bc the muse happened to be there. but if i think abt it, it's probably "wonderwall" which is sort of an "anti"-soulmate fic. but ironically, i never finished it and therefore never posted it either so idk how much it counts

saturday: what gets you excited whilst writing?

getting to the scene i've had in my mind all along and being able to read it!!! one of the reasons why i prefer writing drabbles and ficlets is cause most of the time i just have one specific scene in mind but don't want to think of a story around it. and getting to that scene, esp when sentences already started to form in my head, is what makes me want to write, so i can read it then. it's why i write in first place

sunday: how frequently do you take requests or prompts, if at all?

lmfao uhm. okay so i still have 12 unanswered prompts in my inbox and they're all over a year old by now xD and i don't want to take new prompts until i answered the old ones' but at the same time i am just. not doing the old ones sooo... i'm not sure how i'm supposed to answer the question xD

august: are any of your fics associated with certain genres/artists/songs/etc?

i'm a bit confused at the genre part since every piece of writing belongs to a genre? unless they meant music genre? not sure how a writing could be inspired by music genre but maybe i'm just not imaginative enough. anyway, apart from one songfic from forever ago i can't think of one, no. some of my fics have song titles but that's bc i'm terrible at titling fics and just go through my playlist to see if a title fits lol. i rarely ever pay much attention to the lyrics, i just vibe with the sound and that alone is not enough to inspire me tbh

The first character you loved:

1.Deku!! Could relate to him to some level, and i loved the hard work he put in not losing his kindess on the way! A real role-model if u ask me

2. That’s gotta be Sanji! He’s so COOL! Always sticking by his principles even if it kills him (which happens more often than u’d think), not to mention he is a badass cook! I almost gave up on my plan on becoming a doctor to try becoming a chef, but then Chopper hit me like a truck.

3. THAT’S GOTTA BE YOH! My boy! I love him so much! All he wants is to have a chill life and hoo boy, can i relate to that. And just like him i got on the hardest path possible for that... we are not the brightest heheheheh!

The character you never expected to love so much:

1. Id say Kirishima! Dude is a simple jock on the outside but he’s acutally very uncertain of himself and that is relatable af! Comparing himself to those around him all the time and still trying to become as good as possible! Neve give up Kirishima! Im rooting for u bud!

2. Id say Robin... ever since she joined the crew i was suspicious and not exactly sure what her role there was. But after Enies Lobby she grew a lot on me and now i rly like her! Not to mention that her knowledge will be useful to get to Laftel, im sure of it.

3. Not gonna lie, im not usually a fan of villains. Usually am with the ppl on “cool story, still murder” vibe. But Hao is SO FUCKING PRECIOUS! I mean, he HAS to make up for all the shitstorm he made to get to where he is imo. But after readin Mappa Douji, u will have to think twice on his beliefs.

The character you relate to the most:

1. Tbh id say Kirishima! Upon closer inspection id say the boy has too much going on and still trying his darnest, cant be more relatable than that ehehhehe

2.  Tbh ive felt too much like a monster in my lifetime not to relate to Chopper. Wanting to fit in when surrounded by ppl who dont give u even a small chance at being a friend is rough and by the time i got to Chopper’s arc in OP i was feeling like that in school. Everytime i watch those few episodes of Hiluluk flashback i have to hold out on crying a bit, part bc of feeling like u want to fit in and part bc their relationship reminds me a lot of me and my dad and hoo boy am i gonna cry now

3. Chocolove. Sad but going for the smiles! Make comedy your weapon and any weapons fall before your hand made kangaroo 

The character you’d slap:

1. Everyone would say Mineta. Id punch him tho. Bakugo on the other hand deserves a backhanded slap to the face!! Im from the not so well recieved opinion that the whole bullying he put deku through was not smth to be treated as lightly and even tho i get it that this is a lighter themed show, i would rly like for this toppic to be adressed sometime soon. I agree, however, that he is just a kid and should not be held accountable for this through his whole life, but to me, he still hasnt come to the conclusion that what he did was wrong. i dunno, i just want them to get along, but i need more development on this part reggarding bakugo

2. Luffy, of course. He is a great guy, dont get me wrong, but he NEEDS to learn to be a bit more careful. He almost dies with such a frequency that ANY insurance company would turn down ALL Gold Roger’s treasure if they had to take him in

3. Hao tbh. If he’d just go through the Shaman Fight like everybody else he would have won. Didnt need to fuck up half the character’s backstories just to do that.

2. Im kinda sorry to say Vivi... I rly miss having her in action, i hope she gets to travel alongside them again sometime soon

3.Tao Ren, he was ok as a rival and all, but when he  Vegeta’ed he lost a bit of the impact i thought he would have. A powerfull ally, yes, but he wasnt exactly my favourite as one of yoh’s allies
