So- Steven Universe Movie x Hazbin Hotel. OOH OH OH what if trolls x su au takes place after world tour or in trollstopia when branch is finally started to move on but come across the rejuvinator (made by the funk trolls btw cause who else would be technologically advanced to create a device like that) and I don't know if he decides to forward with the plan like spinel or if there's an external force in this

I was so focused on the su part of the au that i completely forgot what to do with the trolls timeline whoops 💀

I might have a potential way of how the timeline goes.

So we know in tbt that the hideout was something branch and floyd were gonna make when he came back. In this au the hideout was already made and it was where brozone hung out the most. It's also where the break up happened and where floyd asked branch to stay until he returned. Only brozone knows the location of the hideout so when the escape from bergen town happened the village didn't know branch was living there so they assume he died.

The first movie and world tour is probably going to be mostly the same minus branch being there.

(Maybe a bit after world tour)

John dory discovers new pop village. He comes across peppy who tells him the news of branch's death. After that JD searches for his brothers to tell the news. Because of the news brozone decides they should try to be a family again because they feel guilty for branch's death, thinking if one of them had stayed they could've protected him or if they had talked it out the break up never would have happened and branch would still be alive. So they talk it out and learn to forgive each other.

Maybe some times passes and that's when poppy wants to make trollstopia. When they finish it (which probably took a few months) they're going to throw a party to celebrate the start of trollstopia and brozone is gonna perform after 20 years. In the beginning they weren't so sure about it but in the end agreed to do it for branch. So poppy starts spreading invitations all over troll kingdom. While she is doing that, branch is foraging for food (it's the only time he goes outside and when he is, he tries to go back to the hideout asap just to make sure he doesn't miss floyd when he returns) and discovers one of the invitations. This is how he finds out that floyd was never going back for him. So while they're preparing the party that is when branch shows up.

About the injector and rejuvinator. Yeah they're definitely created by the funk trolls because I don't know who else could make something so advanced. The problem is that i have no idea yet how branch would know that and how he would take it. So im gonna have to figure that out.

The rejuvinator is probably going to be made out of some special gem because we know that in ttbgo they have some very strange gems in their world (an example the switcher-ruby).

And there is no external force at play here. Idk if I'm going to be able to explain this well. branch has been suffering severely mentally (being isolated for 20 years and staying in denial that floyd would return really messed him up) so when he finally has a confirmation that floyd will in fact not return, all these emotions just come crashing down on him. So what he does is let out all his anger and pain onto his brothers. He is not at a good place rn in his mind. He's feeling all that pain that he's been trying to repress for years. It's after the final fight with floyd when he tired himself out that he has the realisation of what he's doing. (I'm sorry if this isn't right I'm not really good with mental health stuff)

Another Time Travel SU Idea

Consider! A time travel fic where it seems like only one gem has memories of the future, and they try to change things subtly at first, only as time goes on more people start to remember the cannon future(which is no longer the future because butterfly effect lol) and it takes a while for anyone to notice since they figure its cause X thing changed that the others are acting different, only for it to eventually reach the point where one of the Crystal Gems lets it slip (im preferable to Amethyst, Pearl, or Peridot myself) and suddenly everyones like "OH YOU REMEMBER TOO!?" and so they begin planning and Steven helps come up with a (hopefully) less traumitizing way to get through to the diamonds and they all head off to homeworld! So they show up ready for a full scale confrontation with the diamonds, only for them to be like "Steven? Your not supposed to be here for another few months?" Cue Everyone relizing the diamonds came back too, and the diamonds immediatly being like OH its really you Steven! Great! Can you help us? We are trying to fix things but It is so hard to explain the sudden change of heart without you showing up as a clear catalyst! Also, despite our best efforts we are reaaaaaaly bad at talking to other gems in a nonthreatening manor :(

I dunno if that makes sense to anyone else but I love the idea of Everyone going back in time and gearing up for a big battle with the diamonds being like "This will be harder then even last time but Im sure we can do it!" And then they show up only for the Diamonds to be like "Thank goodness you are here! We need your people skills to fix things!"

im thinking a lot of thoughts sporadically rn but OBVIOUSLY the iconic duos fuse at least once, ie clingy duo, emerald duo, (wildcard but) foolish and eret probably fused back in the day in their shared backstory to commit the Atrocities

em duo and happy duo tend to casually fuse pretty often(when the Horrors arent happening) and i think it would be CRIMINAL not to make em duo watermelon tourmaline. for happy duo tho, i was thinking black opal with primarily blue accents for their fusion, but then i remembered that i made bad a black opal with primarily red accents so i cant do that

clingy duo's easy answer would be bloodstone. so im gonna go with that one, and they usually fuse to punch things good. bee duo on the other hand, i dont think they fuse ever. its just not something they do

the schlatt/quackity fusion would be so fun to play around with theyre so awful for each other and i eat it up(the fiances have also fused and it was much better)

OHH i think maybe MAYBE in the butcher army arc when they go to techno's house, quackity makes them all fuse to fight him (he kicks their ASS) and that sorta put ranboo off fusing in a sorta "hmmm no thank you" kinda way

going back to tommy for a sec, i think MOST of his fusions are for power. like if they need to get the upper hand in a battle he'll ask to fuse but its not a common thing for him. schlatt/dream also do that but like in an asshole kinda way

i think wilbur also doesnt fuse. like an extension of his early l'manburg ideals but more personal "youre free to fuse but its not my cup of tea"

doomsday trio fused once but phil wasnt a big fan of it

this is NOT fusion related but i keep thinking about it SGFHFSDJ that one phil stream where kristin was walking around as him and got day drunk(i think about it often) i think that was her sorta 'white diamond'ing him, temporarily taking control of his body from a remote location to experience everyday gem life(ofc this was voluntary unlike white diamond's)

now WEAPONS

techno has the classic rose shield but thats about it for Gem Specific weapons, he has his sword, but he forged that himself, and of course, later down the line ranboo gifts him his axe which he ALSO made himself and everybody is shocked by this

phil has a scythe and it CAN shatter(angel of death teehee)

tommy, tubbo, ranboo, wilbur and probably a few others dont have traditional weapons. for the most part they have lights or gem powers, but no weapons as theyre not built for combat theyre built for other things!(the sword phil stabbed wilbur with was a rejuvenator that wilbur owned, but that also was not his 'Gem Weapon'. he also never used it ever and that certainly has implications)

-yuya is finally the canonical clown ygo protag I needed. he dresses as a clown in ep 1! he has! a circus deck! thats so fun! hes a LOT more melancholic/prone to moodiness than I expected...the goggles as a mood indicator is fun. also seems to care VERY much what ppl think/need lots of applause and praise or he gets upset quickly which. like, wanting to put smiles on ppls faces with dueling is a sweet goal, but a lot of it feels self-serving, too, which is Inchresting for a protag...I LIKE it and want to see where it goes

-and the whole 'laugh when you want to cry' is, ngl, very Bad and Unhealthy and I cant imagine we're going anywhere good with that. (seriously, dont recall what ep, maybe 4 or 5, when the kids and yuzu were in danger he started LAUGHING trying to imrpove his own mood and i was like DUDE. UNNERVING STOP THAT.) let him feel his feelings guys. or this is going to go severely Bad I Think

she's nephrite/centipeetle (nickname when corrupted) from steven universe !!

she's not a major character not by a long shot, but she reappears a few times throughout the show - she's the first "monster" the gems fight in the first episode!!

idk if you know how corrupted gems work but, short story - pink diamond poses as rose quarts, starts a rebellion, that turns into a war against the diamonds, the diamonds then basically use a war mega weapon that corrupts everything on earth. and rose managed to only save garnet and pearl

the mega weapon is like a flash of bright light and by fans its been often called the corruption song and what it does is corrupt the gems into monsters. it messes with their mind and their bodies reflect that - by becoming confused, scared, and often aggressive monsters

one of them was nephrite!! she was a ship captain and had a crew, she "talks" about this in the episode i mentioned i just rewatched

she got corrupted like everyone else - and she turned into a centipede gem monster which earned her nickname - centipeetle

her gem type is nephrite, though! its also her eye. her corrpution is terrible and scary but she remains a gendered little beaft to me even when she eventually gets uncorrupted (though obviously, i have a Creatur bias) (but her being uncorrupted is Her Finally Being Happy Again and that is Good)

anyways shes defeated in the first episode and is bubbled - her gem put in a pink magical bubble that stops her from reforming. (gems ARE their gems and when they're badly damaged they poof into their gem form and take a while before they regenerate their body)

but in a later episode steven finds her again and unbubbles her and shes...! very tiny this time around

steven feeds her chips and goes around and wants to prove to the gems that she's good even if corrupted. even takes her on missions but uh oh things go wrong and shes poofed again and they bubble her again but steven still sees her as a friend.

then another thing to know steven has healing powers but also early in the show his powers kinda come and go as he learns to use them or realizes he has them - in this episode they came back and his first idea was to go back and try to heal nephrite

the gems allow him to do so and...! well! shes bettter than before but not healed. thats where her skrunkly semi corrupted form comes from

ITS FUCKED BECAUSE. she both remembers but is also struggling to remember. but she remembers her past after being probed a bit (by steven giving her the same chips he gave her before)- and she can write pretty decently. (comes up later but i wanted to say this to remind you shes not... like a feral animal anymore).

but she cant talk and her body is all different from what it used to be. she can't talk so steven and her talk through drawings and she explains her story. in this episode we also learn the cause of the corruption im sure, but i believe there were hints about it previously. thing you forget with rewatching is sometimes forgetting where exactly a thing was revealed, because youre going in knowing all of that already and noticing hints of it

anyways through drawing she explains that she was once a captain of a ship with her crew and that she and others were on earth. then the rebellion and the war started and she didnt have time to leave before everyone got corrupted. as she's drawing this, she begins crying. this unstability causes her to start corrupting again and she's clearly depicted to be both in pain and emotional turmoil

she runs off to a warp pad to teleport somewhere, but she cannot activate it due to corruption so steven takes her to where her crashed ship is. as they run towards it she keeps corrupting and what breaks me is just how desperate she is. how scared she is of corrupting further. she can't do anything about it. and this time she's aware of it all happening

eventually as she's basically fully corrupted again, steven and her get to the ship to reveal other centi nephrite corrupted gems - her crew

meaning all she wanted was to see her crew she cares so much about again. and i just

ghhghnghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh shes portrayed as like the mother before right she could basically spawn little smaller centipede gems to attack with and she was refered to as "the mother" and the way she got poofed later in her small form is by saving steven and her being a captain slash commander is like... she cares she cares so much . she didnt want anything else as she was being corrupted than to see her old friends again as her memories and full consciousness was fading away and im just.. ghgnhhghHGH

she instantly sees the diamonds and salutes and speaks to them, fully back as her old self, unaware of everything that happened. she sees them and thinks she survived the evacuation and DOESNT REMEMBER BEING CORRUPTED and her mentioning pink diamond upsets yellow and blue and they back off (they were holding her to like. keep the power flowing thru at her) and she CORRUPTS INSTANTLY AGAIN SHE HAD LIKE 20 SECONDS OF BEING BACK TO NORMAL ONLY TO OKAY BYE FUCK YOU AGAIN

anyways HERES WHERE THE OFFTOPIC RANT STARTS because being a su fan in 2023 is still scary i feel like i must talk about the issues before anyone jumps on my neck

steven is pissed and tells the diamonds off to fix this because hey dont be angry at a corrupted gem that theyre wrong YOU CAUSED THIS . and then the episodes goes to where they go off to see white diamond and i think we all know how that went. hard to talk abt these episodes considering how much strong hate they get - that i dont agree with. though i do agree the diamond redemption was quick and questionable - but people criticizing this often ignore the context that the show had to be kinda rushed after the wedding episode and that the message SU is trying to put out is about kindness and forgivness to kids - besides the diamonds are still clearly painted as being in the wrong. they havent suddenly become nice and they still call steven as pink diamond.

The Owl House reminds me of that tumblr text post complaining about tumblr recommending shows because theyre LGBTQ+ and not because of any characters/plot

Now, Im NOT gonna say that TOH doesn’t have a plot or a story bc we all know it does and ig what it’s trying to do. I will, however, agree that the show is constantly recommended based on the “representation” it has.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with letting people know the creator or some characters are LGBTQ+ because sometimes people want something they know they’ll be able to relate to. Same goes for nonwhite people finding solace or interest in something when there’s a character who looks like them. (I, myself, love to consume ANY media with a darkskin black woman lead where they’re not being mistreated)

When I think of tons of reasons why TOH was recommended (what I’VE seen), I also think about Steven Universe and it’s reasons that I’ve seen it recommended for. On the surface, they both have LGBT+ characters and while having a story that hits emotional beats about certain problems. Both are fine shows, overall.

However, before I started watching SU, I didn’t really wanna give it a chance(i was in my hating popular things phase in HS). Whenever it was recommended, it was always bc of the music, the development, the diverse body types, the fact that there were “black-coded” gems as well as the town being diverse, and they alwsys topped it off with the lgbt representation. I can say that SU pretty much delivered in those aspects esp with plot they started to develop.

Now the funniest thing about TOH was the fact that (this feels like a meme atp) almost every person started with “the main character is a bi afro latina”, which isn’t a problem, then people either talked about Amity, then people talked about Eda and the found family aspect(never about Willow and Gus until it was convenient to point out the nonwhite cast). People bragged on TOH’s representation and diversity but the POC characters are underused or ignored. The lgbt “representation” is fine on the surface level but that’s as far as it goes(FOR ME). The plot is still fine with a few good mysteries but it’s never really why i hear about the show.

and one thing i was very happy to see was how raya handled it

the subtle shows of culture in the way the characters acted, and the environment of the movie was just CHEF'S KISS

not only that but the ideas the movie had in terms of its world and the people in it felt genuine, it felt alive

a dragon that isn't the typical fire-breathing lizard

characters who look like they could easily be my neighbours or children i've played with

instead of pandering to this movie felt like an actual homage to sea cultures

and for good reason bc seeing all those familiar names rolling in the credits had me feeling some type of way :")

also that fucking soundtrack gave me chills throughout my watch of the movie

okay now that we've got the things i actually like about the movie, let's talk about what i don't like

if there's one word i could use to describe disney's raya it would be: rushed

like i said in the beginning, all the groundwork for an astounding disney movie were already there

but all of it just goes to waste bc the plot and it's characters feel so Unfinished

the movie felt like a bullet-point presentation of the story

WHICH IS SO FUCKING DISAPPOINTING BC THE CHARACTERS SEEMED SO INTERESTING but all we got were shadows of what they could have been

cardboard cutouts of the archetypes they filled

i'm not asking for a bottomless well of depth, but i at least wanted more for the cast than just: angry misunderstood princess, angry misunderstood princess with an undercut, that one dancing kid from moana but with more spice, boss baby, and the mountain

and i get that they had to sacrifice some of their depth to keep the run time of the movie short but you have got to be better than this disney

i hate to compare but it felt like this movie tried to go beyond what moana gave us, and shot so far that it ended up back to where it started, and then stumbled back a few steps

Hello Sine, I read your post few days back on Howard. I didn’t know the MCU had an influence on the comics. I’m really surprised. My question is; were comic Tony or Steve subjected to some changes? Were they influenced by the MCU like Howard or is it mostly for unknown/side characters with no solid foundation? Thank you

Oh, yeah, comics have changed a lot in response to the MCU.

They have a habit of coming out with new events to run at the same time as MCU canon that are theoretically supposed to draw in new readers, I assume, but in practice really have nothing to do with whatever MCU thing is coming out and are generally very confusing. When CACW came out they ran Civil War II, which was a fight between Tony and Carol (who did not, at the time, exist in the MCU) about an Inhuman who I am pretty sure does not exist in the MCU. When Infinity War came out they ran Infinity Wars, which also featured a bunch of people who did not exist in the MCU and was about running a weird bodysharing AU inside the Soul Stone.

They also like to reprint older issues to coincide with MCU events, which is nice of them, but, like, God help you if you watch Age of Ultron and then decide to read Age of Ultron. There are collections of Sam’s complete Cap tenure coming out now, which is very nice, but if you are here from the MCU you may be confused about the part where Sam becomes Cap because Steve is unexpectedly 95 years old (okay, so maybe that part is easy to get now that Endgame has happened) and then also Steve is young again but secretly Hydra and simultaneously Captain America. (They are not reprinting the Steve run that was going on at the same time, as far as I can tell.) And then they push other series into prominence because people like the MCU versions -- and, I mean, I am enjoying the hell out of the current Guardians run, but its major characters include Moondragon, Phyla-Vell, and Rich Rider, so good luck, MCU fans.

Fandom is pretty sure that they stopped FF for a few years because they didn’t have the movie rights and also that they went around retconning a bunch of characters to not be mutants back when they also didn’t have the movie rights to the X-Men; the two most famous are Wanda and Pietro, but, I mean, there was also a Squirrel Girl issue devoted to explaining that she definitely was not a mutant now. They probably also pushed a lot of Inhuman characters and tried to position Inhumans as sort of the next mutants, narratively, because they had movie rights to those.

The main Avengers team is now pretty much mostly made up of characters they want to push in the MCU as well as characters people will know from the MCU. You can tell they also tried to do this at the beginning of Hickman’s Avengers run because he started with the MCU team from the Avengers movie before shoving like twenty additional people onto the team, and then they came out with Avengers Assemble which was very continuity-light and featured a lot of MCU dynamics (like, Bruce being anyone the Avengers regularly hang out with, which was definitely not the case before the MCU). They added Coulson to the comics, too. And Nadia is definitely not the same as Hope, but, uh, her name means “hope” in Russian which is, as we say now, very sus.

Also the Infinity Stones are now Gems and their colors, I think, match the MCU.

In terms of specific changes to Tony and Steve’s comics:

The RT node was obviously clearly introduced because of the arc reactor, and I would bet that Zeke Stane was created because suddenly people cared about Obadiah Stane a lot more. (Am sort of surprised they didn’t decide to resurrect him, actually.) The comments from Marvel editorial in the letters column during Bendis’ IM run were explicitly clear about the fact that they were trying to make 616 Tony sound more like RDJ in terms of quippiness and general personality. There is at least one armor that is a straight-up port of MCU armor.

Coates’ current Cap run has brought Peggy Carter back to life -- she died several years ago -- made her young, and also not made her a blonde anymore. You know, so she looks more like MCU Peggy. (The hair color thing is particularly weird in light of the fact that Steve originally noticed Sharon specifically because she looked so much like Peggy.) You get a lot more comics putting Steve’s origin in Brooklyn (although this is not 100% consistent and never was) and also I read an entire miniseries that seemed to be under the impression that in 616 it was the Red Skull’s fault Steve got iced. (It was Baron Zemo.)

There are probably more but that’s all I can think of right now.

Toxic Family and Friends: Steven Universe

People share there thoughts and feelings about things on Tumblr and Youtube :) Just blurt it out, and, maybe find likeminded people too? I dont know if theres a word for it but I kinda felt like it right now, and sometimes. I get a bit scared sometimes to say like, where do you start? But, hey, I figure, just say

Right now “Steven Universe” is playing on my mind. A show that has a lot of faults, which is a pity cuz it can be better. Best thing about it? Music I reckon. Cant deny the songs are really catchy. Worst? Writing.

And right now I wanna talk a bit about the sadness of Steven.

The gems... They are really, really not good people. Okay there not people I get it there aliens, but they dont even TRY to be better? The have no concept it seems of empathy, kindness, understanding, not even to eahc other. They onyl care about themslves and there problems.

Lets take “Keystone Motel” for example.Ruby and Sapphire realise theyve been making Steven feel bad, that he was to blame somehow for there fight and being assholes?...And still they make it about them. They dont apolgize or say Im sorry for making Steven feel bad, they just sort it out between themeleves and then act like the last few days havent happened at all.

There all guilty of this at one piotn or another. Dont even get me started on Pearl. She is the worst in my opion, and, well cant be helped kinda she was LITERALLY made to kiss Pink Diamonds ass?SO is her supposed “love” for her even real, or just programming? But either way she is cruel, petty, selfish.And I feel like shes got some soprt of “shield” your supposed to take into account but yeah, its flimsy and a poor excuse? “Oh no one can hate me or get mad at me, becuase Im in PAIN you have no idea what it was like.” Especially screamign at Steven “You dident even know her!” A extremely cruel thing you can say to a child and she doesnet even seem to feel the slightest remorse, much less apologize(not to mention letting him hang there when nearly falling to his death).  And like she never gets called out on her shit, it feels like, she thinks she can just do or say whatever she wants and there are no consequences, she doenste havta take into account anyone elses feelings but her own.

Well there all a bit like that but, Pearl especially.

I feel like also, if we get serious for a minute The gems dont really love him, not in any helahty sense of the word, despite what they say?

They just want him to be like his mother, EXACLTY, or at best a poor substitue becuase shes the closests thing left of her. They ignore him, they have no idea of his likes, interests what hes doing when there not with him. And only bother with him when THEY feel like it. They see him as a pesky pet at best thats also a WEAPON they need to defeat the diamonds.They DONT see Steven at all

Oh, and also, hes kinda like there short order therapist. They use him to make THEMSLEVES feel better but never ask or wonder if hes okay, much less the damage they do to him when theyve done cruel unkind acts(Amethyst morphing into his mother, KIDNAPPING him as a baby). He doesent register to them. Hes literally there JUST for them

I feel like by SU future this is really starting to effect the kid. Hes starting to see the unhealthy pattern and hes getting sick of it, that this is the “normal” and there happy for it to remain that way. But they wont ever change, there still the same selfish stupid creatures they always have been, even by the end. I dont feel like they apologized and still make it about them even when he changes into a Kaiju. That ending was VERY dissapionting in this sense, they still dont take responbility or try to be better people, for all there lip service about “love and peace and understanding”

Anyone thinks or feels similiar, I admit I’d like to know.

i said i wasn't gonna say anything about the su eps (the finale) but me being myself i just Gotta say what i think. please know it's my own personal opinion and feelings, if you even read at all lol

i havent been... liking suf that much. i tried very hard to like it since it started airing, but i just liked it less and less as episodes came out, to the point i wasn't even excited to tune in whenever new ones came out. i've been a fan since the day jailbreak aired which was march 2015 and this was the first time in all these years that i wasn't excited for new eps

i really wanted suf to be an actual epilogue and resolve things that were left in the air (we never did get the amethyst and mother figure rose episode at all, peridot's send off ep was just about steven, etc...) and when it began and it was just about steven i was like oh, well, i guess this'll do! i trust the crewniverse and it's true he needs his moment of aftermath!

i... "liked" the ending. i do like he leaves beach city, i think it's fitting, and i did feel emotional and etc. and all the unconclusive things can be overlooked, i mean as much as i love this cartoon it obviously isn't perfect and i have never ever glorified it and as much as it means to me (seriously, it's my biggest comfort) i've always watched it with a critical eye. that said, to just antagonize rose like this is unforgivable to me

her arc is told in reverse i get it, she's supposed to be good but everyone forgets this, and apparently not just the fandom. the moment they took down her painting the show itself just straight up finished painting her as the villain

i really, REALLY wanted the corruption to be an opportunity to somehow connect steven to his mother and talk. i desperately wanted him to reconcile with the image he has of pink/rose, and if he did, for ROSE to be there. she wasnt pink anymore when she died, and rose as rose quartz hasn't really been mentioned in forever. which is why we all forget who she really was upon having steven. steven's mother wasn't that bratty child anymore at all.

we are never reminded of the current person she was before dying. still not perfect but the most human she ever was in life. it would've been such a beautiful way to conclude this show, when she was the beginning of everything. when amethyst says "you know who'd be good at this" ("who?") "STEVEN!!!" i really thought she'd say rose instead of steven.

my twitter is on private but ive been talking about how i thought this would happen and i literally said that steven's corruption being fixed through love/family would be underwhelming because family, love and HELP are the very same things he's been rejecting since the beginning.

why does the same thing he's been saying can't help ends up helping? the only difference is that this time they realised he's always been there for them but they weren't. which...isn't true. at all. literally the episode "what's your problem" from season 5 tells us there's at least one person who says she wants to put him first for once. it's just not true that no one's ever been there for him. not even just that episode, like several ones after that, and throughout suf itself. everyone's known for A WHILE that they needed to stop putting themselves first and help him for a change

of course that help and steven ACCEPTING that help are two different things which is why he gets corrupted in the first place. but why is it that when he's corrupted he finally listens? i just can't seem to agree with the narrative here because apparently... being corrupted is what finally made him understand? why, of all things? when he was the most lost? i think it was just...for edginess points, and it breaks my heart. i think it's an interesting concept and all, especially manifesting from the half gem/half human version of ptsd but the resolution seems so lousy to me.

to me at that point the only person who could've understood him and helped him in a way no one else could was rose. she's the one he's been the most angry at. she's the one that made him a diamond. she is the CORE OF THE SHOW. if they could've only talked and he could come to terms with who he is and who his mother was, the fact he finally understands everyone's there for him would've made more sense. the way it was handled just made it seem... unreasonable?

anyways, that's mostly what i wanted to say. if you even read this whole thing, wow, thanks. again this is just my personal take as someone who holds steven universe VERY close to their heart and it just made me asdghgfdsd to see everyone glorifying the ending/show like it's flawless (and also i hate how if there's people who don't glorify it, it's just people straight up being su critical which hey, yikes, get a life)

the show still means so so much to me, but my heart is absolutely broken over the fact the ending was so underwelming and almost meaningless, or at least not as meaningful as it should be, being the CONCLUSION to a show like this. im just disappointed they forgot rose quartz was a character at all.

first of all ty for the pendulum post it worded my own thoughts about Greg. like he is tried best with what he knew, what he had, the circumstances surrounding Steven being an alien hybrid and such, ie none of the Gems are citizens, or even in the world of su where people don't fret much over weird stuff a doctor probably would have looked at his gem and been like "what the fuck is that? we must operate immediately" 1/2

however reminding Steven that he's not like other kids, and the whole "you can be whatever you want to be!" is just. Not what Steven needs to hear presently, obviously. What you already said. Anyway Greg's family reminded me my own, too. like yeah we had a nice house and vacations but they also emotionally abused and neglected me. I know was supposed to paralell Pink's "childhood" but those flashbacks were in a fantastical space setting and not a suburban house with uncomfortable family photos 

I understand to some others who didn't have stability or nice stuff as a kid it may seem ridiculous that I left the moment I could with no plan. But It's like, they had the means to support me and my interests and my transition but instead  they looked at every thing I did were like "that's stupid. why don't you do this other thing?" like I don't think people understand how damaging that is to a child 

as a Gay I also couldn't help but notice that the stuff his parents forced him to do, (wrestling, having a buzzcut, mathletes kinda) are all more traditionally masculine things. that detail may be coincidental but to me feels like part of why they wanted him to do that despite it him having no interest is to make him "man up". Greg isn't particularly feminine but you know how the straights can be OK IM DONE SORRY ARTIE

tbh, I don’t blame Greg at all for not taking Steven to a doctor either because, yeah, I can easily envision a, like, ET scenario where Steven is confiscated and tests are performed on him. Also, because of Steven’s innate healing powers, he never got any injuries or illnesses that would prompt a doctor visit and any problems he did have were likely Gem-related which Earth doctors likely couldn’t do much about anyway. The difference between Dr. Maheswaran and any other doctor is she has general knowledge of Gems via Connie and had performed basic tests on them for science so she had the ability to determine what might be causing his problems. I’d also imagine Greg might’ve been concerned what human treatments might do to Steven. Like, vaccines work on humans but they’re totally untested on Gems and Gem-human hybrids. What if the Gem part of Steven caused it to react in an unexpected way to devastating consequences?

Yeah, Greg’s “you’re unique” speech wasn’t what Steven wanted to hear but it makes sense that’s what Greg would say for the same reason Greg raised Steven with unrestrained freedom. Likely, Greg grew up feeling confined in a dry, personality-less role where he was doomed to be just like everyone else, not special at all. I’d wager as a kid he wanted nothing more than for people to say “You are the only you that exists, you’re special and unique and no one else can define you” so that’s what he says to Steven. To quote The Sunscreen Song (or the essay it was based on, I guess), advice is a form of nostalgia. It always stems from one’s own experiences and thus can never be completely applicable to another person (and sometimes can be totally off the mark!)

I think there are a lot of different bad situations people can grow up in that cause their own brand of problems. No amount of stability can make up for a suppression of the self just as no freedom of expression can make up for a severe lack of stability. It is very very emotionally damaging to consistently have it drilled into you during your formative years that nothing you want, think, or like matters and worse, be mocked and belittled for it. We’re complicated beings and have a variety of needs that need to be met and severely lacking in one can have devastating effects when we grow up.

That’s a good point re: the masculine activities. I hadn’t really thought about it, but you’re right and it would not surprise me at all if his parents were motivated by the desire Greg be more “manly”. Greg always struck me as a guy not concerned much with gender roles, I could easily see his parents wanted to curb that when we was younger. I mean, his favorite musical artist was the SUniverse’s version of David Bowie, I can’t imagine his parents were thrilled about that, given what little we know.
