there have been a few speculations in the tag and among the fans and they are all very good SO i am going to take this opportunity to insert a bit of my shipping bias as i like in my interpretation LMAO agdsfgdfgv

i noted that in actuality shuro seems to have a very good grasp on laios' character??? this is most obvious in the manga later on but even seeing how he criticises laios in their fight... iirc nothing he says is actually untrue or wildly exaggerated, and while he does express frustration over something he feels like laios Should have control over (noticing his cues), he is also aware that laios isnt being malicious and that hes Just Like That. what i mean to say is that while i think his version of laios may seem more pushy and in-your-face, i dont think it will be overwhelmingly so. if its post-fight, i think the idea of laios (and marcille) being willing to do anything to get falin back made a big impression on him, as well as the idea that they need to eat and rest in order to succeed in their goals, so those aspects would be prominent in his version. he seems pretty observant, so i think for the most part the physical traits would line up, but i think there would be specific things that stand out to him that would appear strangely striking on his version of laios (like. idk something about his eye colour or the subtle contrast of his armour and chainmail. he seems to have a weird sense of aesthetics if extras are anything to go by lmao). if hed actually been paying attention all those times laios had gone on about what the hell ever, then it might be even MORE hard to tell apart his version since he would also have a good grasp on what laios should know. so either his version of laios is pretty difficult to pick out, OR despite the character being accurate his appearance is too. stylised lmao (exaggerated features or something) OR!! they just get him to pull out his monster gourmet guide thing and are able to tell from there. iirc everyone was surprised at its appearance so its possible toshiro had also never seen it before

IN MY IMAGINARY SHIPPING SCENARIO............ lets say that his laios isnt able to be picked out immediately and that the monster guide thing also doesnt immediately occur to anyone. what the real laios Specifically notices is how close this other laios keeps getting to shuro. and hes like. ??? why is he getting so close to him, theres no way i get that close to him??? but no one else seems to be picking up on it as weird, so hes having a small crisis like do i REALLY get that close to him???? and now that hes on the outside he notices shuro subtly leaning away and he feels both a wave of shame and..... protectiveness??? (JEALOUSY??????) and he immediately steps in and grabs him like Hey!!! cant you see hes uncomfortable???? weve been through this already!!! and like. ok i cant believe im doing this again but i need to separate this into different endings

a) the whump route: i dont think shuro ever envisioned Actually Telling laios about his frustrations outside of being basically cornered into it. has he ever spoken up against what was expected of him?? has he ever been confrontational???? i think part of what held him back from expressing his frustrations, along with the cultural norms, could be fear of what the reaction would be. if he had done the same in any other aspect of his life (his family, his inheritance), i think he would expect disappointment, disapproval, more proof that he doesnt add up to expectation. to be honest i dont think he Truly believes that laios is the type of person to react like this. but it was strong enough to prevent him from acting and i think would be projected onto his image of laios. maybe fake!laios says something dismissive like Well if it really bothered him hed say something right? what, he cant even stand up for himself? cmon, shuro, prove that you cant handle it just like everything else. and thats pretty much the fastest giveaway that it isnt really laios. of course this would be a HUGE tonal departure from what the actual episode/chapter was, so:

b) the dumbass route: both laioses break into fisticuffs, and, yes.... barking. and so they speedrun the entire encounter as the shapeshifters true form appears and, after laios points out that thinking too hard about others versions of you can tear apart groups and peace of mind, they pointedly do not speak of it again. they think about it though. a LOT

c) the normal route: both laioses argue normal like and the group ends up being able to tell them apart because the fake laios goes on a little too long about how theyre all here for falin and everyones like ok its not like he DOESNT love his sister but.......... the rest of the scenario probably goes like canon, though then i would want to see what everyone Else thought of shuro

genuine question but is there any fandom where a character is well written by the majority. im thinking about fandom culture and the spread of frustration when people dont write characters well but. honestly in all the fandoms ive been in there's only like, a Select number of authors who i trust to write Well, let alone write Well AND In Character. character analysis and writing and getting inside characters' heads are all separate skills (all of which are trained by roleplaying fyi can CONFIRM playing pretend with your friends is good for you). there's been more than once where I've disagreed with an interpretation that others agreed with, and then I turned out wrong. or i turned out right. like it doesnt matter WHO is right it just matters that differences in character analysis exist, so even if you DO write well AND write in character, your in character is still going to be someone else's out of character

there's this sort of. vibe. that to play in the sandbox you Need to be able to make a castle, and if you can't make a castle then you shouldn't bother, and it completely dismisses the idea that youre in that sandbox to PLAY in the first place. there's this Weight of disappointing someone if you can't build something that they like, but that forgets that you aren't there to build them a castle. like, be KIND. if you disagree with someone then please make an effort to do so kindly. i dont give a shit about fandom discourse but there is a reason kids get removed from sandboxes if they keep throwing sand in people's eyes. but if they don't like your misshapen sand pile, then youre not obligated to change it. even if you yourself end up hating that same sand pile later- youre not building a legacy. youre playing. and sometimes the result of that play is out of character drivel. theres a reason there are so many authors and so few who i like to consistently read and thats because everyone is Fucking Around in their hobby space. hash tag brag or whatever but i can build castles. ive built several that im v proud of. ive also dug holes in the sand for fun and then tripped on them when trying to get up. Things I find frustrating/uninteresting while reading Cherik fics*:

Writers treating Charles like he should be omniscient, and siding with Erik on anything.

Letting Erik get away with everything, making Charles the one who should "change" -insert wtf???? meme-

Opposite situation where Charles life trauma is worse than Erik's?????? WHAT? Or making Charles not capable of coping with his own trauma - something he's been, honestly, awesome at throughout all the movies, except for that brief decade of break down (much deserved cause fucking hell, poor guy, just wish those closest to him weren't assholes, except Hank for that time being)

Agreeing with Erik on Mystique's choice of no clothes, like he wasn't being a fucking WEIRDO.

Babifying Charles or Raven.

Justifying Erik's fears of Charles' powers, like WHAT? WHAT? Like, I know the movies never go into how people treat Charles' mutation, but, like, come on! I'm so sick of seeing Charles bend over backwards for people who don't do the same for him. (Genuinely in character for Charles, not me dissing your writing, me just tired of Charles getting the short end of the stick)

Sadly accurate to the movies, but Raven being a little brat, and everyone treating her with kid gloves.

Erik being mad at Charles for leaving him in prison, like Charles did NOT owe Erik anything, Erik knew that. He wasn't upset at Charles for not doing anything about that. He was upset that Charles seemingly didn't do anything for the rest of mutant-kind. I just think Erik bitching about that is ludicrous, considering Erik left Charles on a fuckin beach surrounded by, to his knowledge, enemies. He's got no fuckin grounds to be pissy.

Another sadly movie accurate thing, Erik thinking Charles should be just able to DO fucking anything, looking down on Charles for sitting in his mansion teaching kids and giving them a safe haven, and acting like that isn't enough? When Erik is the REASON Charles can't DO more. When we saw Charles being VERY active when he had mobility with his legs. Like, holy fuck, are you for REAL, fam?

Just in general people thinking Charles should train his kids to be soldiers???? Everyone's on crack, I swear.

This should be higher but I don't tend to read these fics, Charles not being disabled. Like, I do get it, it's harder to write, most people wont understand the perspective until they research more on it (which would be good for everyone to do) though I get why people don't. Not against fics like this, but they do feel a bit like a cop out so I tend to avoid.

Im biased but like, Charles' transgressions are WAY lower than Erik's. Like, they are SO not on the same level of cruelty. A little valid to make Raven say shit like they are (She's like that in the movies, and genuinely pisses me off), but god, that's partially why her character became so irritating to me.

*Not saying these fics are bad or anything, nor me saying they should change and be the way I would like them, just me being exasperated with X-Men movies, and sometimes fandom stuff I disagree with, so I gotta write it all out and am curious if others feel the same.

oh that's totally valid to think! and I can absolutely see it, what little we know does fit Zod's typical traits and it would work for an Evil Krypton sorta thing, but for me it's sorta down to two things as to why I think Brainiac - the faceplate thingy opening up in that weird way when they did a big ol' heat vision laser blast(?) that felt. overdramatic for a humanoid face lmao. and more importantly imo, the logo on the machines - and the one on the big bad, how it's just a plain triangle that's maybe raised up -

and I think they'd show his shield if it were Zod - Zod's crest has been different across adaptations iirc (snyderverse's had sort of a horseshoe/U shape? smallville had a funky Z etc.) so there wouldn't be much given away there for the more casual audience at least - it could look like anything, might even be just a fancy Z similar to the S on Clark (which would be reason to hide it ig. keep the surprise till the end. or maybe that IS the Zod logo here which uh. weird but it could work? eh?)

but also personally my theory all season long has been that Sam/etc. misunderstood the events of Zero Day in some way due to it being Brainiac's doing - with Brainiac being some creation on Krypton (ala TAS, iirc) that rose up and doomed the planet, then sought out other planets for the typical Brainiac reason of putting them in a bottle, and that misunderstanding can be more. well. understandable if Brainiac looked Kryptonian, if he looks somewhat like Supes - the cape, the build, the triangle on the chest, etc.

now don't get me wrong, again, super valid read on things and would make sense, Zod loves him a good conquest, typical Zod Stuff, totally works, and really I'd love it to be him because he might be my second favorite Superman antagonist at this point - really wished he'd shown up in S&L - but I feel this more a Brainiac thing given the machines and how indirect this has all been. and also Zod's been weirdly absent in Supes stuff since MoS for whatever reason
