so after using my free blaze for the month, my takeaway is that blazing a post isn't worth it unless your post is really good I guess. you get a few likes for 30 minutes and then nothing and also probably get silently blocked by a lot of people lmao
#ough knowing only 0.5% of people who saw my art even liked it is rough I don't like knowing the numbers#ofc like I said I think a lot of people block on sight when they see the blaze icon#and also it was a long post with a lot of art (annoying)#maybe next month I'll try with a single piece that I particularly like#also non-fanart always does bad notes-wise unless you're REALLY good and appeal to a lot of people#which is why I stopped caring about notes after I stopped drawing fanart as much#bc my art is only decent and my tastes have always been a few degrees off from what people like#but also I'm doing all this justifying but now that I think about it these stats are consistent with what I typically get on deviantart#which is 100-150 views and 0-1 favourites#so maybe I really am only appealing to 0.5% of people

Meet the Fankids!
It’s about time that I made a blog like this. Seriously, I’ve had these fankids for so long and I’ve never introduced them as a full group before? Preposterous! That had to change, and so it has. Here’s a full list of all of the fankids present in Danganronpa 21 -- complete with appearances, personalities, likes and dislikes, hobbies, fatal flaws, dreams, and other random details like blood type.
Happy reading!
Hope Naegi-Kirigiri:
The eldest daughter of Makoto and Kyoko Naegi-Kirigiri, standing at 16 years old (April 9th, 2020). She holds the talent of the Super High School Level Costume Designer, and holds positions both on Hope’s Peak Cheerleading Team and on their Student Council. She is 5′6 and boasts 118 lbs, and has AB blood. She is of Japanese descent. Her affiliations include Hope’s Peak Academy and the Kirigiri Detective Clan, though she is notably not the heir.
At sixteen years old, Hope is already widely believed to be living up to her namesake. Cheerful, bubbly, and caring; Hope is a girl who is greatly admired by many for her charm and grace. Those who admire her would say that she’s always ready for adventure and fears nothing, but she herself would tell you that that’s a stretching of the truth. And those who dislike her would tell you a completely different story. They would tell you that she is childish and overly fanatical, to the point of letting it consume her very being. Others might tell you that she’s stubborn and constantly refuses to see when bad things are happening right in front of her. The one you’d probably hear the most is that she’s headstrong, for someone who tattles on others when they break the rules. And in a way, all of them are true, although she would insist that those traits are probably not as bad as they seem.
Some of Hope’s favourite things in the world are mystery novels, animals (especially dogs), pop music, make-up, her family, and craft projects. Her hobbies include costume design, theatre, cosplay, photography, playing video games, reading novels, and helping her younger sister out with mystery solving. Otherwise, Hope tends to dislike foul language, being called ‘bossy’ by her peers and being underestimated overall, her mother’s cooking, her great-grandfather, and generally anyone who has the audacity to disrespect her baby siblings.
Hope is someone with many goals in life. She hopes to have a successful career in the costume design industry. If she cannot do that, she would like to succeed her father as Headmistress of Hope’s Peak Academy. She is also incredibly passionate about nurturing the world around her, and ensuring that people blossom to their full potential. So much so that she is certain that she’d like to have children some day, too. Her one major shortcoming that will likely get in the way of her life goals is that of her pride. She is often too proud to admit when she’s made a mistake or had any sort of shortcoming, which will hinder her in her journey if she’s not careful.
She will be the second protagonist in the Danganronpa 21 series.
Sakura Asahina:
The adoptive daughter of Aoi Asahina, standing at 16 years old (November 17th, 2020). She holds the title of the Super High School Level White Water Rafter, and is the manager of the Hope’s Peak Academy Swim Team. She is 6′0 and 150 lbs, and has Type O blood. She is Japanese according to immigration, but her actual background is unknown. She is a student at Hope’s Peak Academy, as well as a waitress at the Sakuhina Cafe.
Sakura is the primary example of looks can be deceiving. Though she is a tall and buff-looking girl, she’s the walliest wallflower there ever was. She is highly shy when it comes to new people, and tends to stick to smaller social groups (which often leads her to spend time with Leon and Hope exclusively). Still, don’t let this gentle heart fool you. Apart from her reluctance to socialize, she also has a personality of her own. She is adventurous and compassionate, and has been described by others as dependable at any and all times. The kind of girl you go to when you have a problem and need help. She’s not a girl with a particular temper, and tends to be sort of dreamy-minded. The sort of person who believes wholeheartedly in the goodness of the people around her. If you manage to capture a spot in her heart, she will be as gentle and generous with you as possible -- granting you almost all of her attention. Still, Sakura is no manic pixie dream girl. Much like her mother, she is impatient and tends to jump to conclusions. These conclusions can often lead her to being oversensitive and emotional, and creating big, unnecessary reactions to small things. She is notably also socially awkward, and tends to worry about every detail of her social interactions... sometimes to the point of making herself ill.
Among her list of favourite things is donuts, rabbits, physical activities, the sauna, fresh fruit, her mother’s cooking, and matchmaking TV shows. In terms of hobbies, she loves to bake, binge-watch TV shows with her mother, swim, babysit, quilt, jump rope, and white water raft. She also has a fondness for caring for plants. On the other side of things, what Sakura hates most in life is the fact that some people fear her. That, and a slew of other things. Yelling and loud noises, when others neglect their responsibilities, neglecting proper nutrition, dressing up formally, tofu, back aches, and shoulder tension. She also seems rather displeased at the amount of boys who don’t seem particularly interested in pursuing her romantically... not that she’d know what to say to them if they did choose to pursue her.
Sakura is unsure of what she wants to do with her future. She thinks she would like to continue with her talent; perhaps working with a team to lead them to victory. Unfortunately, her sport isn’t in the Olympics just yet. Otherwise, she thinks she might take over the Sakuhina Cafe if Aoi will allow her to do so. Or maybe be a social worker! She hasn’t decided yet, but likes having the options. She also dreams of getting married some day, but still struggles to talk to boys her age. Her biggest flaw in getting what she wants stems from the fact that she is emotionally vulnerable, and thus more prone to hurt and manipulation.
She will be the sixth protagonist in the Danganronpa 21 series.
Leon Hagakure:
The son and eldest child of Kanon and Yasuhiro Hagakure, standing at 17 years of age (January 8th, 2020). He holds no ultimate title nor any exciting extracurriculars, but he does have a great interest in music mixing and DJ work. He is 6′0 and 151 lbs, and has Type A blood. He is of Japanese nationality, but is a quarter Jamaican from his father’s side. His affiliations start and end with Hope’s Peak Academy.
The number one thing Leon might tell you about his personality is that he tends to wear people out on occasion. Not because he’s an overbearing person or anything, but mostly because being Kanon and Yasuhiro’s son has made him into a very weird person. At his best, Leon can be described as a laid-back, yet energetic young man. He is overall good-humoured and generally idealistic in comparison to his peers, albeit a little more naive than them, too. He struggles with knowing when to take things personally. In spite of what people might believe about him, though, he actually inherited Kanon’s courage and cleverness. The boy is much brighter than most tend to give him credit for. Likely because it is overshadowed by his larger flaws, such as his laziness and disorganization. His idealism frequently leads him to have unrealistic expectations of people, and also produces a lot of ideas that just cannot work in the real world. Not to mention that he’s just flatout irresponsible when it comes to just about everything. The only point in which he shows some competency in being responsible is when it comes to his baby sister, Kameyo.
Leon’s favourite things include manga, dubstep music, electric guitar, wasabeef flavoured chips, the scent of vanilla, and aliens. In terms of hobbies, he likes to mix music, play soccer, go mountain biking or hiking, doodling, calligraphy, playing baseball, playing video games, and wood carving. Alternatively, he notoriously hates homework, nagging, classic novels, whale meat, haircuts, and when his mother uses him as a test subject for make-up.
Leon isn’t someone who has a lot of direction. He’s a pretty good-with-the-flow guy. If he had a main goal to describe at the moment, it would probably be to graduate from high school. Maybe see if he could get a career in mixing music. If it’s not possible, he thinks he might like to become a teacher or a tour guide. Still, his major flaw in achieving those goals manifests mostly in the fact that he is lazy and lacks motivation.
He will be the ninth and final protagonist in the Danganronpa 21 series.
Koichi Naegi-Kirigiri:
Makoto and Kyoko Naegi-Kirigiri’s son, standing at 15 years of age (February 5th, 2022). He holds no ultimate title, and currently boasts no extracurriculars at school. As apart of his Reserve Class Talent Study, he is choosing to study martial arts. He is 5′1 and 100 lbs, and has Type B blood. He is of Japanese nationality and background. His affiliations include Hope’s Peak Academy and the Kirigiri Detective Clan, and is notably not the heir... he was actually never considered for the position of heir at all.
The self-proclaimed “most normal” member of his family, Koichi would consider himself a relatively uninteresting boy. His main traits include being sarcastic, somewhat serious, and leaderly. He has never been the kind of kid who has lots of confidence in himself, and as such tends to be modest and self-critical. He sports a sort of sophisticated understanding of the world in spite of his young age, and traditionally tends to view the world a bit differently than those around him. Much deeper into his soul, though, there is much more of a nervous boy trying to hide. When it comes down to it, Koichi is caring and reliable, often willing to give all of himself when shown that someone is deserving. Still, this also makes him much more sensitive. A lot of the time, people would categorize Koichi actually as a huge crybaby, and thus rather brittle. In truth he holds a certain degree of strength, but is often overcome by his own insecurity and worry of what others think of him. He is desperate to please those around him, and secretly dreams of living up to his father’s legacy.
Things that Koichi really loves include novels, ramen, manga, tea, being challenged, video games, his family, and penguins. His hobbies include martial arts (with him being able to manage aikido, taekwondo, ju jitsu, judo, and hapkido), skateboarding, language study, playing the piano, playing basketball, playing video games, and volunteering to help others in need. What he dislikes, though, can be brought to a list of excessive attention, doing the laundry, not being allowed individuality from his parents, lecturing, coriander, and those weirdos who drink milk straight out of the carton.
Koichi isn’t sure what his goals in life are yet. He’s only a kid, after all. All he knows is that he’d like to graduate high school at some point. He doesn’t really know where he would like to take this whole martial arts thing, but figures he will pass it onto his children. You know, to continue the Uzuchi family legacy somehow. Really, though, Koichi’s biggest life goal is just to have an adventure. The trait that will get in his way? His recklessness and insecurity over uncertainty.
He is the first protagonist of the Danganronpa 21 series.
Natsumi Kuzuryuu:
The daughter of Peko and Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu, currently 14 years old (August 16th, 2022). She holds the title of Super High School Level Fire Dancer, but makes no attempt at adding any extracurriculars. She is 4′11 and a measly 90 pounds, with Type A blood. She is of Japanese descent and nationality. Her affiliations include Hope’s Peak Academy, the Jabberwock Islanders, and the Kuzuryuu Gumi. She is notably the heir to the Kuzuryuu Clan, but after the traumas of the Tragedy, she and her family have stepped away from Yakuza work. When attending school, she utilizes the name Natsumi Kitagawa to protect her identity.
If one thing can be said about Natsumi, it’s that she is absolutely Fuyuhiko’s daughter. At first, Natsumi projects herself as a boisterous and loud girl. She is ruthless, rude, and has an uncontrollable vocabulary of curse words. She is short-tempered and hot-headed; going as far as loving to get into fights with people just to watch them back down. She is aggressive and disorganized most of the time, and in spite of her family’s lack of real connection to the Yakuza anymore, she is still highly arrogant about being a rich heiress. A little too proud to be a Kuzuryuu, it seems. Deep down, though, she really means well. She is surprisingly patient with those who have earned her respect, as well as loyal to them until the very end. She may be rough around the edges, but truthfully Natsumi’s core is very soft. She is soft-hearted and highly romantic, as well as daring and freethinking. Justice is always the first thing on her mind, and she’ll fight for it no matter what. She loves people very deeply, and is always a shoulder to cry on for a friend in need.
Natsumi loves swords, flowers, any sort of wit, sour candy, seashells, and the smell of the ocean. Alternatively, she is not particularly fond of know-it-alls, her father’s lectures, the Island’s loneliness, and being criticized for her family’s past. For fun, she likes to craft weapons, garden, draw, play volleyball, mix drinks (mostly non-alcoholic... cause, you know, Fuyuhiko’s kid), and surf.
In all truth, she’s not sure that she really intends to take her fire dancing dream to a larger career. She’s considering reserving it for the people she loves, and as a means of showing the culture that Jabberwock developed post-Tragedy. Instead of using it as a career, Natsumi is hoping to eventually get married and have a family. She’s already picked out names for the four children she wants to have, and hopes to spend her time with them as a housewife. If she has to have a career, she thinks she could maybe enjoy being some sort of protector of the people. Perhaps an advocate? She’s not entirely certain. She just likes to joke that her Yakuza background makes her “want to help in a way that surprises people”. The thing that stands in the way of her goals the most is honestly her own ego, and sense of self-importance.
She is the third protagonist of the Danganronpa 21 series.
Phoenix Bartholomew Nevermind:
The only son of Sonia and Gundham Nevermind, aged 14 (September 18th, 2022). He holds the title of Super High School Level Parapsychologist, and currently boasts no extracurriculars. He is 5′9 and 145 lbs, with an AB blood type. He is half-Japanese, and half-European. His affiliations include the Jabberwock Islanders, Hope’s Peak Academy, and the Novoselican Royal Family. He notably has potential to be the next heir to the throne, should he challenge his mother’s second cousin, Amaris. For his protection, he utilizes the name Phoenix Tachibana while at school.
Phoenix is, admittedly, sort of a strange kid. On account of his sort of strange parents. He’s an eccentric boy with a joy for life, a taste for culture, and the absolute glee that comes from accepting who you are wholeheartedly. Most others use the words energetic, fun-loving, and friendly to describe him. His attitude is, for the most part, carefree. He refuses to let anyone tell him that he’s being too odd, and will try to treat them kindly even if they do so. Not to mention that he is imaginative and resourceful, able to handle himself better than most people might expect. However, the boy is still human. Unfortunately, he’s rather clumsy and extremely gullible. He is incredibly vulnerable to manipulation, and falls for it more often than he doesn’t. His perseverance skills could also use a bit of work, given that he is the type to give up easily when things don’t necessarily go his way. His father’s influence has also made him defensive of his views on the world, and he admittedly has some prejudice towards “non-demons” on account of his parentage.
Phoenix adores all things supernatural. Old movies and plush animals, too. Oh, and any food that’s sweet. Japanese dramas, fantasy novels, and fireflies are also pretty high on the list of favourite things. On the list of least favourites, there’s spiders, the smell of kusaya, seagulls, his contact lenses, and Natsumi’s insistence on fighting literally everyone that so much as looks at her funny. His hobbies include yoga, sand art, fishkeeping, sewing, reading, learning new languages, and making up mythical creatures for fun.
Phoenix’s big dream in life is to someday return to Novoselic. He wishes to challenge Amaris, and take back his family’s position on the throne. Admittedly, part of the appeal does come from wanting to return his mother’s title to her, after it was stripped following the Tragedy. But a lot of it comes out of love for his country and his people, and wanting to connect with the part of him he has yet to meet. He does someday hope to get married, but he worries that Novoselic might object to his “less traditional” preferences in a partner. His biggest obstacle to his dreams (apart from Amaris) is his soft-heartedness and emotional vulnerability.
He is the fourth protagonist of the Danganronpa 21 series.
Junichi “Jun” Togami:
The only son of Byakuya Togami and Aceline Aleshire, currently age 9 (May 16th, 2027). He holds no ultimate talent. He is 4′3 and 66 lbs, with Type B blood. He is of Japanese-European descent (French & German mother). His affiliations include the Akamine Academy for Gifted Youngsters and the Togami Conglomerate. He is notably the heir of the Togami Conglomerate. Among friends, he tends to go by the name “Jun”, but when his father’s around... well, everyone’s told that they’re obliged to call him Junichi.
Referred to lovingly as “The Mini Byakuya”, Junichi is a child of ego, bluntness, and an overstatement of the value of wealth. He has a tendency to be arrogant, as well, so much so that he developed a rivalry with Seiko over which of them is more intelligent. He willingly looks down on anyone who he perceives to be below him, unless actively given a reason to respect them. Fortunately, unlike his father, he does think a sort of kindness warrants respect. When he’s not perpetuating his father’s questionable life lessons, most would categorize the boy as efficient, sensible, and articulate. He is straightforward and well organized, keeping everything neat and working as hard as he can to get what he wants. Sometimes, he can even manage to be helpful, when he really wants to be. Most likely on account of the loneliness he feels deep down.
Some of Junichi’s favourite things include math games, lizards, the piano and the violin, foreign novels, the night sky, and Renaissance art. He secretly also likes playing in the mud, but he’d never let anyone but Kameyo and Seiko know that. Generally, he has a distaste for rodents, the sight of blood, chocolate, cluttered spaces, eggplant, manga, death metal music, and his own mother. He is all too grateful that she is no longer in the picture. His hobbies are limited due to his business training, but when he has time to engage in them, he reads, plays the violin, does calligraphy, paints, and does ballet. He’s also always been kind of curious about make-up, but neglects this for he fears his father wouldn’t approve of him.
Junichi’s main goal in life is to succeed his father in the Togami Conglomerate and restore the family to what it used to be. He has no greater goal than making his father proud by being strong, successful, and intelligent. He has already planned out his life all the way past graduating university with a specialization in business, and birthing a proper heir to come after even himself. Deep down, though, another one of Junichi’s dreams is to learn to accept himself for who he is. He’s awfully proud of him family legacy; however, he feels he can’t embrace all of himself if he’s choosing to follow it. His biggest flaw/hinderance when it comes to his goals is his unstable behaviour born from insecurity, and his possessiveness over the people he has in his life.
Junichi will be the fifth protagonist in the Danganronpa 21 series.
Kameyo Hagakure:
The youngest child and only daughter of Kanon and Yasuhiro Hagakure, age 8 (March 17th, 2028). She currently holds no Ultimate talent, but as of her story debut, she is under consideration for the title of the L’il Ultimate Medium. She is 4′3 and 61 lbs, with Type B blood. She is of mostly Japanese descent, with a quarter of her background being Jamaican. Her affiliations include the Akamine Academy for Gifted Youngsters, although she someday hopes to go to Hope’s Peak Academy.
One of the biggest staples of Kameyo’s personality is her absolute cluelessness. She tends to have moments of absent-mindedness and is somewhat spacey, unable to always understand the things that are happening around her. She is not always the best listener, and tends to take action before she can even think about what needs to be done. This makes her forgetful and somewhat careless in activities that concern her everyday life. Most would not say that Kameyo is responsible. Still, the girl absolutely makes up for her flaws in heart. She is honest, humble, and passionate. She has high levels of empathy and can quite easily understand behaviours based on the energy they give off and what she knows about them already. She is warm and kind, which tends to help as she is extroverted and highly sociable. Overall, she is just a sincere young girl that others love to be around. She may not always seem like she’s paying attention or make the smart choice, but when she is, you can’t help but love her.
Kameyo is especially fond of fortune telling, dolls, make-up, sunflowers, scented candles, crystals, pop music, and of course, ghosts. She tends to dislike the dark, bitter foods (especially matcha), slurping sounds, being unable to identify where a sound is coming from, and when others compare her to Junichi and Seiko. In her free time, she loves playing baseball, doing ballet, doing crafts, playing pretend, doing make-up, and collecting dolls.
Given that she’s so young, Kameyo wouldn’t say that she’s someone with a profound collection of goals. Really, she’d say that her big thing is wanting to prove to people that she’s not crazy. That she really can hear ghosts, and that most of the time, the ghosts don’t want to hurt you. She really struggles with the fact that most people tend to assume that she’s disturbed or just a child, and wishes she could do something more to show them. She thinks maybe getting into Hope’s Peak Academy as the Super High School Level Medium might change that for her. Otherwise, she’s just a kid who wants to have fun; she would love to make as many memories as possible with Junichi and Seiko at her side!
She is the eighth protagonist of the Danganronpa 21 series.
Seiko Naegi-Kirigiri:
The youngest daughter of Makoto and Kyoko Naegi-Kirigiri, currently 8 years old (December 14th, 2028). She currently holds the title of L’il Ultimate Detective, but cannot claim it yet. She is 4′2 and 59 lbs, with Type B blood. She is of Japanese descent. Her affiliations include the Akamine Institute for Gifted Youngsters and the Kirigiri Detective Clan, to which she is the heir.
Confusing is the way most people would describe Seiko Naegi-Kirigiri. Probably due to her tendency to flip back and forth between being weirdly mature and then insanely childish rapidly. Her childishness shows most when someone first meets her, and she resorts to stoicism and shyness until she can get to know them better. Time will begin to show Seiko as an impish and impatient young girl, determined to get what she wants from the world. She is highly brilliant and confident in herself and her capabilities, and takes great pride in being a detective. Courage and willingness to stand up for others seems to pump through her veins, sometimes something she interprets as her “Kirigiri Blood”. She is friendly, dedicated, and kind. However, this doesn’t always show, due to other traits she possesses. She is commonly described as opinionated, graceless, and tends to speak bluntly about others. Given that she is so young and also of Kirigiri blood, she is frequently disobedient and impatient. One of the harshest things about her, though, is that she holds grudges and refuses to let go.
Still, Seiko isn’t as harsh as she might seem. She’s still a little girl, after all. She has a child-like love of many things, such as snacks, Japanese mythology, chocolate, pretty rocks, and playing dress-up with her big sister. On the other hand, she dislikes secrets, pickles, green peppers, creepy old men, and being told to be more “lady-like”. Her hobbies include collecting stuffed animals and dolls, ballet, reading, climbing trees, playing chess, keeping a journal, and baking.
Seiko’s primary goal in life, above all else, is to become a great detective like her mother. She wants to be a honourable part of the Kirigiri family, and ignite pride in her parents and great-grandfather. She hopes to someday open her own detective agency. If she can’t do that, though, she thinks she might want to be a professional ballerina. The only thing that might get in the way of this might be her impatience and spiteful nature.
Seiko is the seventh protagonist of the Danganronpa 21 series.

WordPress: 11,000 +
Twitter: 8,900
Facebook: 800 +
Pinterest: 10,300 +
Of all of the blogging regrets that I have, my lack of knowledge when developing my blog and hesitation when setting up my social media accounts are the biggest. Why?
My social media is now responsible for HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of referrals of my total views.
The problem with social media is that (during the initial set-up months in particular) it can incredibly time consuming, even when using schedulers. Posting a blog post now doesn’t just involve pressing the publish button – I think about keywords and SEO, create a pinnable image for Pinterest and then pin it, tweet it using specific hashtags, share it on Flipboard and then share it again into specific Facebook groups. How, when and where I share it will depend on the specific day and time so that they get the maximum audience.
And that’s just the beginning. I have created interesting Pinterest boards that fit within the themes that I cover, along with a successful group board, and participate in link-ups (even starting my own which is now the biggest blog sharing hashtag on Twitter at the weekends) and various Twitter chats. I share high quality pins and tweet interesting posts from others. I follow a daily checklist to make sure that I don’t forget anything.
Sound exhausting? Don’t even know where to start? Don’t have the time?
What if someone could do that FOR YOU?

Here’s what just some of my clients had to say about my advertising and social media management services…
If you’re an author or blogger who wants to grow their stats, if you’re busy and struggling to manage your social media, or perhaps you just want to focus on something else, then Suzie’s your gal. There are few people I’ve met online that are as shrewd, talented and social media savvy as Suzie. In my first month I saw my follower growth (per month) quadruple compared to my efforts the previous month, and my referrals from Pinterest saw a 90% increase on the previous month. As far as I’m concerned Suzie takes growth hacking to the next level. But one of the things I love most about working with her, is that I don’t have to do a thing. I sit back, concentrate on writing and she takes care of Twitter and Pinterest. I genuinely cannot recommend working with Suzie more … Sacha Black
As an independent author, having a presence online is vital. I’ve learned that by employing the services of Suzie Speaks I have been able to market my site, attract a wider audience and sell more books without spending hours campaigning. Shelley Wilson, Motivate Me Now
She is very skilled at what she does and has helped me significantly grow both my Twitter and Pinterest followers. Because of her efforts, 50% of my blog views now come from Pinterest vs 0 when I started working with her – Ana, Project Life Wellness
My Pinterest views went from 104 page views to 1263… Suzie has given me great ideas to implement for both platforms and is in touch with the current news of social media – Tiffany, A Girl and Her Passport
I have used Suzie’s services to help widen the reach of my blog, Love, Laughter & Truth. I have been very pleased with the response to Suzie’s work and she really does have so much expertise around blogging and using social media to reach a wider audience. Just as importantly Suzie is an absolute pleasure to work with – friendly, professional and gets the job done efficiently and effectively. I couldn’t recommend her services highly enough. Thank you, Suzie! – Matt – Love, Laughter and Truth
My followers on Pinterest have gone from 3 to 3200 and I receive hundreds of views a month which is pretty amazing, plus I’ve met some great new bloggers, which has been a nice bonus – Helen, Journey to Ambeth
I was a new-ish blogger and rebranding my blog when I started working with Suzie. It was invaluable to have an experienced blogger available to help me through the complicated process. Suzie helped ensure all my social media branding was consistent and patiently answered my endless questions. She helped me get started on Canva, work more effectively on Pinterest and showed me the value (and enjoyment) of interacting with other bloggers through Facebook Groups and Twitter chats. A month or so after working with Suzie my stats had trebled – so I was well chuffed! I’d recommend working with Suzie to any blogger out there looking for some help in getting their blog up and running or revamped. In my book, she’s a star! Jill – Midlife Smarts
Suzie has managed areas of my social media for a while now and is extremely dependable in her support and guidance. Her organisation and management has enabled my blog to be a constant presence in the social media world and I have seen very positive and consistent results. I would highly recommend Suzie as a Social Media Manager. Donna – Jot to Jot
I worked with Suzie for one month while I was building my business. She managed my Pinterest and Twitter accounts and not only did she completely take on full responsibility for both of those, so also massively increased engagement. I got a lot more exposure on Pinterest which is now converting into much more web traffic, as with Twitter. I got to connect with a lot of people in my line of work in Twitter thanks to Suzie tweeting almost daily on my behalf. She also got me added to a lot of Pinterest group boards, optimised my profile and made me look so much more professional on both platforms. She made ten graphics for my blog posts and a couple of landing pages which got great engagement on both platforms and I’m continually repinning them. They’re still converting into web traffic thanks to her great copy. I’d love to work with Suzie again in the future. She’s very friendly and always responds to my messages, no matter how busy she is. I can’t recommend her services enough to busy professionals who need someone to take on that big part of maintaining a business and helping you to grow online. Charlotte – Charlotte Produces

We love exploring the great outdoors and one of our favourite things to do on the weekend is to go out for a hike. Each weekend we try to tackle a new hike, as there are so many beautiful one’s in and around Cape Town. Below are a few of our favourites that we would suggest.
The Beard has an immense fear of heights, but has been doing what he calls “bravery training” to overcome this fear. Thus we attempt walks with heights and so far, we have managed to complete all of the hikes below.
Pipe Track
Wallys Cave
Platteklip Gorge
Sandy Bay to Oudeschip Peninsula
Cable Car to Maclears Beacon
1. The Pipe Track
This is an easy walk, that follows an old water pipe along the base of Table Mountain, below the peaks of the 12 Apostles. If you are looking for a scenic, gentle and mostly flat walk, then the Pipe Track is perfect for you.
The hike starts at the intersection of Tafelberg road and Kloof Nek. Park in the car park next to the Myciti bus stop, walk across Tafelberg road and then head towards the stairs (sign posted). The views from this track are breathtaking, with Lions head in the distance and constant views of the ocean, camps bay and beyond.
The walk is very popular with local’s for both trail running and walking. There are also a few paths that lead off this track up towards Table Mountain.
Duration (time that it took us): 3 hours (with some photo stops) Distance: Approximately 6km one way to Corridor Ravine, you will go back the same way. Difficulty: ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ Heights: ★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆
Back to the top
2. Wallys Cave
The infamous Wally’s Cave walk (the trail is usually a well-kept secret), there are a couple of routes to Wallys Cave, but this is the route we have always taken. Start at the hut/boom for the Lions Head hike as per the pic below.
Walk up the jeep track for about 500m, past 2 viewing benches on your left. Then keep your eye’s open for a slightly hidden path and some steps which will be on your right.
Follow this trail up, it’s quite a climb, but totally worth it. Keep heading left on the trails (when they split) and you will eventually find Wally’s Cave. The path is narrow and goes through a small Silver Tree forest and some beautiful fynbos.
Once you reach the cave, it’s a great spot to have a snack, a rest and admire the views of table mountain and Camps Bay. And don’t forget to take some photos, because if it’s not on Instagram, it didn’t happen. 🙂
Duration (time that it took us): 25 minutes up, 15 minutes down Distance: Approximately 2km Difficulty: ★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆ Heights: ★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆
Back to the top
3. Platteklip Gorge
This hike takes you up Platteklip Gorge to the Front Table of Table Mountain. This is no easy walk, but you really do feel like you have achieved something great when you get to the top.
The walk starts on Tafelberg road, drive past the cable car until you see a security hut and a sign board that says “Platteklip Gorge” park anywhere around here and start your walk up the stairs.
The trail has the most amazing views with Lions Head, Signal Hill and Devils Peak framing the city, with such beautiful views, you almost forget about the fact that you are breathing so deeply and that your legs are starting to ache.
Once you reach the top of the mountain, take a few moments to congratulate yourself and then make your way to the Cable Car (currently R120 for a 1-way trip), it’s a short 10-minute walk. Be sure to stop at, at least a few of the viewing points to admire the stunning views of the 12 Apostles, Camps Bay and Cape Town from the top of Table Mountain.
This is quite a popular hike and you will pass many other people on your way up, which is great as everyone encourages each other and motivates you to keep going.
Duration (time that it took us): 1,5 hours to the top Difficulty: ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆ Heights: ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆
Back to the top
4. Sandy bay to the Oudeschip Peninsula
Sandy Bay, well know in Cape Town as a nudist beach, is possibly one of the prettiest beaches in the area. Drive to Llandudno and follow the signs to Sandy Bay. The walk begins from the parking lot at the end of the road.
You will walk along a sandy track and some board walk before you reach the beach (there are a couple of paths that lead off from this one, but if you keep right, you will eventually reach the beach). From here you will need to cross the beach (eyes averted down, as you will be one of the few people there fully clothed). Feel free to stop for a swim in the cool ocean or to bask in the sun, in a bathing suit or birthday suit :), the choice is your’s and Sandy Bay allows both. As you get close to the rocks at the end of the beach you will see a path up the dunes, and you need to take this path to continue with the hike.
Stay on this path that follows the coast until you reach the Oudeschip Peninsula, at this point you will be able to spot the shipwreck (Harvest Capella, 1986). We stopped along the way for a snack and to admire the view over the beach with Lions Head in the distance. This is an out and back route, so come back the same way.
It is advised that you walk in groups for safety reasons.
Duration (time that it took us): 3,5 hours, including a picnic stop Distance: Approximately 9km Difficulty: ★ ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ Heights: ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
Back to the top
5. Cable Car to Maclears Beacon
A very easy walk with the most spectacular views of Cape Town, to the highest point of Table Mountain – Maclears Beacon. Park at the bottom of the cable car and purchase a return ticket (currently R240). Once you are at the top of the mountain, follow the path to Platteklip Gorge/Maclears Beacon
Once you pass Platteklip gorge, follow the path towards Maclears Beacon. On our way there we took the track that went across the middle of the mountain. From this side of the Table you are able to see as far as Hout Bay and pretty much the whole of the False Bay coast. Make sure you stay on the path and follow the yellow footprints which mark the route. Climb up a small rocky hill and from there you will be able to see a small mound of rocks which is Maclears beacon. We had a picnic up here with incredible views from every angle.
We chose a different path back to the cable car, which takes you along the front of the table. Again just follow the path and signs back to Platteklip Gorge. Please only take this route if it is not raining, windy or misty as it gets quite close to the edge of the mountain. (the Beard had the odd moment of fear along this route). This path follows along a couple of boardwalk’s and then leads onto trail again, running along the front of the mountain with the cable car in the distance.
You will rejoin the path close to Platteklip Gorge, and from here you make your way back to the cable car. Remember at the cable car, there are shops, a restaurant and even a bar for a celebratory beer or glass of bubbly.
Duration (time that it took us): 1,5 hours including a picnic Distance: Approximately 6 km Difficulty: ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ Heights: ★ ★ ☆ ☆ ☆
Back to the top
Always remember to take enough water with you, a hat, some sunscreen and a snack/picnic, something warm (especially when hiking on top of Table Mountain as the weather on top can be freezing even in summer) and be respectful to nature.
Hike safely and in groups and leave nothing behind but footprints.
*Distances and time are approximate

So, I could pretend that I haven’t posted the rest of our holiday because I was building anticipation… but truthfully, I have been in a bit of pain and trying to recover, carry on with daily tasks which normally would not take all my energy but currently does, as well as work, kids returning to school and a thousand other things, a mum has to do on a daily basis.
But I hope it will be worth the wait, as we move into part four of our Italian adventure:
Day 6 – Sunday
After our wonderful trip to Pisa and our relaxation day in Lake Brachianno, we decided to carry on with our taking it easy tour by having a nice stroll around Rome to see some of the sights. We had a nice stroll around seeing more of the sights and I let the kids take photos of whatever they wanted, wherever they wanted. I followed behind and took a photo of whatever they did, as I wasn’t 100% sure of there photo abilities and I thought it would be nice to see what they thought was interesting in Rome. It was beautiful, fun, exciting, tiring and hot, very, very hot!!! But incredible!
Stroll through Rome
Fascinating trees
We started at the Roman Forum as that was right outside our apartment, and just headed off into Rome. The kids loved the trees, and I must say I find them fascinating too!
I think this is my favourite photo the kids picked! They loved seeing angels in all the art and architecture! Happily to say, I am raising some cultured children, and I love it.
Our first proper stop, is one of my favourite places in Rome, its also a favourite for thousands, so I knew it would be busy, but I also knew the kids would love it. I wish we could have made it back at night time. Next time we go, Rome by night, will definitely be on our agenda. Anyway, drifted off course there, back to our next stop…it is the largest Baroque Fountain in the world, it features the Titan God of the Sea, if you throw three coins into it: this will ensure your return, a new romance and marriage apparently, (on a side note – the coins have funded a supermarket to help Romans in need.) And it is visited by roughly 1200 people every hour. A crazy amount of people, but it is beautiful and totally worth it.
Trevi Fountain
Trevi Approach – so many people!
Butterfly children posing
Trevi Fountain – Oceanus (Titan God of the Sea)
Trevi Fountain
Of course, as you have probably guess, it is the Trevi Fountain. A glorious, beautiful piece of art and architecture, a true feast for the eyes. The fountain which is located at the junction of three roads, (the most accepted explanation for the word Trevi – from Trivium – or the crossing of there streets) is a display of an ancient aqueduct termination. The main central statue is Oceanus – Titan God of the Sea -not Neptune as many believe. I love my Ancient myths and stories. I love reading about Gods, Titans, Emperors, so coming to Rome was always going to relight this passion, and seeing the Trevi Fountain and telling the children as much about it as I can remember has only made this passion grow.
It was so crowded here, that we decided to move on quite quickly. Next we headed onto somewhere, that Mamma Butterfly had set a challenge for the kids and they were eager to follow through with it.
The Challenge: How many steps are there at the Spanish Steps? As Mamma BC and I waited at the bottom, Mr BC and the kids took on the challenge!
Challenge Accepted!
Spanish Steps

Counting the spanish steps
Bella Poppet – Beautiful
Poppet running ahead but couldn’t remember how many steps. Monkey had a number but as Mr BC later told us, he kept getting ahead of himself or skipping steps! 😂 So probably wasn’t the most exact amount of steps.
Aqua Potable
Mr BC cooling off and refilling
Aqua Potable – fresh safe water on a hot day
Cooling down
Aqua Potable – Monkey having a quick drink
Cooling Down
On a ridiculously hot day, this is one of the best things about Rome. Aqua Potable – fresh and cold drinking water. The kids loved it and even Mr BC got a little wet to cool himself down. Refilling our water bottles before heading off to our next stop! We actually spent a good amount of time here, it was still busy but as Mr BC and the kids wandered off up the steps, me and Mamma Butterfly got to people watch.
We stopped, for what turned out to be the most expensive lunch we have ever had, ever! It wasn’t even that nice, we have had some amazing food in Italy, todays lunch, not so much. But it filled us, and helped us move onto our next stop.
Our next stop, is also one for the architecture lover, its also appeared in a few films like the Trevi Fountain, so its probably quite familiar. I remember the first time I visited Rome with Mamma Butterfly (before my butterfly children were even thought off), we wandered around for ages, trying to find this site, and as we gave up looking, we wandered down street and I used my small bit of Italian to ask where we would find it, the kind gentleman turned me around and there it was, in all its glory, if we had just taken a couple more steps down this road, we would have found it on our own, but still the gentleman was very lovely helping us.
This building was a former Roman Temple, now a church, no one knows quite the date of completion for the newer building Hadrian completed as it still has the inscription kept from the original building by Agrippa, which unfortunately burnt down. I think it is quite a peculiar but wonderful building. Forgive me, my description as I am not sure of the exact wording, but it has 8 columns at its front followed by more columns as you enter. And from pictures, I always think it looks like a smaller building, but it is not. It is impressive in its size, and as you enter and see all the little alcoves and the huge portion for prayers and services in the centre, you can tell why it is so big. Of course, the ceiling is impressive, a big circular domed ceiling with an oculus in the centre… It is of course, The Pantheon.
“God shines down through the hole”. Whenever we see the suns rays, the kids both say its God shining down on us. Which is beautiful!
Pantheon Oculus
I think I was probably the most excited by this stop, the kids took some pictures, and they like the Oculus, but I think they were getting hot and sweaty and couldn’t see the beauty as much as I could.
We wandered for a little longer and soon came back to a very similar view. I don’t think I will ever be bored of seeing some of these buildings. They are truly beautiful to behold, and if you are not sure on whether to add Rome to your list of places to visit, I will happily chat to you all day about truly breathtaking it is, in fact, I would say that about all of Italy. I have fallen in love with Italy all over again, and I don’t think I will ever tire of it! I cannot wait to return (by car probably!) 🙂
Altare della Patria – absolutely stunning building
Beautiful Architecture
On day 6 and still a truly wonderful sight!
We found ourselves back at almost where we started. We took a quick side step to a toy shop to take home with us, but then walked along this beautiful road, taking in the view of the colosseum again.
After our disaster of meal from previous nights, and our not very successful lunch, we returned to our old favourite stomping ground for dinner. And we were not disappointed, I cannot thank the waiting staff at Iari the Vino more. The food was amazing and tasty, the staff are friendly, polite and most important to me, so great with the kids. They didn’t mind that the kids were a bit excited, they helped them with their Italian and encouraged them to try new words and foods. As we had already visited a few times, most of the staff recognised us and we got the warmest welcome ever. I would highly recommend if you are looking for food around the Ancient side of Rome near the Forum or Colosseum.
I want nails, makeup and this skirt – she knows what she wants!
I want to be a mermaid tonight mummy! ** Only stick on not glued**
Poppet eating pizza … again, in her brothers glasses!
Almost got my perfect shot – but it was yummy desert
Poppet loves a good cheesecake
Finally remembered to take a photo of my food before eating it and Monkey couldn’t help himself!
Find someone who loves you as much as Monkey loves Gelato
Poppet is going through a Mermaid moment (still going through it) and so wanted to have makeup, hair and nails like a mermaid. I was always worried about having a girl as Im not always the girliest but I love it now, I love spending time, doing her hair and makeup and picking cute clothes. Don’t get me wrong she will climb trees and wants to be a firefighter when she grows up, but I have a proper girly girl on my hands and I love it. (** Please don’t worry, the nails are stuck on with sticky flaps not glue).
All week, I have been trying to pretend to be a food blogger, but I always get too excited to eat the food to take a picture beforehand. On this day, I was patient and calm (with desert, lol) but Monkey wasn’t and put his finger in my shot! 😆
Final Day – Day 8 – Monday
For our final full day in Italy, we planned a trip to the Vatican. I will admit, this stop was the day that caused me most worries. I loved the Vatican when I came previously, even without an audioguide/guide, just wandering around the museums, and the Sistine Chapel was incredible. I was a little worried that the kids would get bored and want to leave. My fears were unfounded, as the children loved everything from the moment we stepped of the bus and walked into The Vatican City. They loved hearing about the City within the City, the immense St Peters Basilica was a wonderful sight, and Monkey loved it and wanted to get a little statue of it like he had the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain and Pisa tower.

Panoramic of St Peters Square
Fontane di Piazza San Pietro
I had planned our trip knowing all the rules we had to follow, I instructed the children are behaving their best and to be respectful, I was really worried it wouldn’t be that child friendly in the museums. We even made sure we were dressed appropriately, as its important to me that I show the children to respect other cultures. So off we headed into the Vatican Museums. I had arranged for a child audio guide for each child but didn’t know what to expect. I was blown away with how child friendly it was. Even though, we did a shorter child friendlier route this time, I think I enjoyed it more this time than previously as I loved seeing the children engage with the art, culture, history and heritage. I was so excited to wander around the children, I didn’t get nearly as many photos as I would have liked.
The guards were all incredibly friendly, they smiled to the kids putting them at ease, they answered questions (the children aimed at us, but we didn’t always know the answer), and they made the day wonderful. The audio guide was incredible, I have no words to describe how exciting it made the museums, each room we explored had its own linked guide that came alive from a piece of art of sculpture and told a story to the children, and then they had to find pieces of art/sculptures to move onto the next room.
We got off to rocky start as the children got so excited in the first room. We didn’t know what to expect from the audio guides, so I hadn’t warned the children to be calm or anything. An angel from one of the Frescos “came alive” and told them a story and sent them on a quest to find the next piece of art in another room. Monkey went strolling off and got very excited when he found the piece of art, he wasn’t naughty or rude, he just squealed a little in excitement. Another visitor, a young women without children, got a little huffy and snapped at him. I was going to tell him to calm down a little not tell him off though as he was so excited by the place, but her attitude was a little upsetting as all the staff seemed happy to let the children explore and enjoy their guided tour. Happily, I didn’t have to say much as a kind guard told him quite loudly, “well done for finding the right piece”, and asked did he know what the Angel had asked him about the painting. I did still remind Monkey to be a bit calmer as everyone wanted to enjoy their visit, but I was so happy he was excited and enjoying himself.
This was one of the first pieces they had to find, causing all the excitement.
All the Angels – didn’t really want to blink in this room – just in case! Did not tell the children this!

The Sphere within a sphere
Both are my children are quite arty, and so loved finding the art work and sculptures, and luckily the tour skipped us past some of the more brutal paintings, so really there was no need to worry as they both enjoyed it. Even with having quite arty, cultured children, I still believe the day was such a huge success because The Vatican Museums have made it such a child friendly and entertaining place to visit. I would gladly go back again, and I have raved to all my friend show have children, who may have had reservations about visiting. I would recommend it, maybe not for really small children, as it is a lot of walking and you have to have a certain level of understanding to follow the audio guide (they are aimed at 6+ and Poppet isn’t quite 6 yet, but she got along just fine.) and map they hand out, with picture clues to help find the artwork.

Ceilings in The Vatican Museum almost as exquisite as the Sistine Chapel
We have been reading Percy Jackson series together, so the kids were excited to come across some statues the characters are based on.
Perseus and the Head of Medusa
I could write forever about how good a day we had, we spent much longer than I thought we would and when we finally got to the Sistine Chapel, the children were just as surprised as I was when I first saw it. They couldn’t quite understand how someone could paint on the ceilings, especially in such detail, to be honest, I can’t quite understand it either. Even so, they could still the beauty of it and were amazingly well behaved, even more so than some adults in there.
A final photo of our day – lunch at The Vatican – finally got a photo of food!
Delicious Lunch at the Vatican
Overall, today was a huge success and was an amazing end to our holiday. Unfortunately, all the walking and excitement got to me, and I ended up in bed as soon as we got back to the apartment and everyone went for our final meal at Iaris without me. It took Mr BC a while to get across I wouldn’t be joining them this evening, and the waiters didn’t want to serve until I had arrived. It was a true testament to how amazing the restaurant was. They did bring me some takeaway home, so I was very happy!
And so, even with me being in pain, today was a wonderful end to an amazing holiday. I didn’t want to leave and I cannot wait to explore more of Italy in the future. I have fallen more in love with it ever before. Poppet said she might move to Italy when she is older, and as much as I would hate to be so far from her, I think as long as I can visit, I’d be ok with this! Once again, I am trying to learn to speak Italian, and this time I am trying harder and even now I am still going strong.
Our own little Roman Holiday - part four. Sorry in the delay, part four of our Roman Adventure awaits. #Rome #VaticanMuseums #Pantheon #Trevi #Spanishsteps So, I could pretend that I haven't posted the rest of our holiday because I was building anticipation...

July Watches: Brooklyn Nine-Nine
July Watches: Brooklyn Nine-Nine
More often than not, TV has disappointed me these last few years. My favourite shows have either been cancelled—e.g. Marvel’s Agent Carter and Cracked—or just lost their spark for me, like The 100 (which I had previously considered my all-time favourite show. I’m kind of wary now of starting new shows, because I don’t want to see them fall apart, or watch in dismay as they get canceled. But…

Everybody told me Ferrara is less famous, but just as beautiful as Florence. So in my latest trip to Italy I just HAD to include it in my itinerary! Even if Mondays are the worst for museum freaks like me, I still managed to fill the day to the brim with things to do and see in this lovely Renaissance UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here are my recommendations for a 1-day visit to Ferrara!
One day in Ferrara, Italy
The moated medieval Este Castle (Castello Estense) is definitely the symbol of the city and the most famous landmark in Ferrara. Built in the 14th century as a defensive fortress for the ruling Este family, it soon became the residence of the court. At the end of the 16th century, the dukedom moved its headquarters to Modena, so all the art collections form the Este Castle were moved there. Nowadays, the castle houses a museum where visitors can find out more about the building, the Este family and the history of Ferrara. My favourite spots: the Garden of the Oranges (Giardino degli Aranci), the Lion’s Tower with its beautiful panoramic view over the city and the superbly decorated ceilings of the 1st floor rooms.

The Estense Ducal Palace was built in the 13the century in front of the city’s cathedral. It was the duke’s residence up until the end of the 16th century; now it’s the headquarters of the Ferrara municipality (Palazzo Municipale). You can enter the interior courtyard, called Piazza Municipale, and go inside the palace through the Grand Staircase (Scalone D’Onore). There are beautiful frescoes and decorations in the interior halls, open to visitors.

Being the largest religious building in the city, the Ferrara Cathedral shouldn’t be missed. Dedicated to Saint George, this church is a 12th century masterpiece of art and architecture. Be advised that the facade is currently under renovation and that the cathedral is closed for a couple of hours at midday.

Another photo-worthy landmark in Piazza della Cattedrale is the Clock Tower. Also, opposite the Cathedral you can enjoy savoury pastry and delicious Italian gelato at the Leon D’Oro pasticceria & gelateria.

In Ferrara, almost every house is a Renaissance palazzo! Some are private residences, while others house local museums. Here are some that drew our attention: The Palazzo dei Diamanti takes its name from the 8,500 white marble blocks on the facade, carved to represent diamonds. It’s an absolutely spectacular sight, which attracts many tourists and curious people. Art aficionados can visit the Modern and Contemporary Art Gallery and the National Painting Gallery of Ferrara.

Across the street, the monumental doors and stairs of the Palazzo Prosperi-Sacrati are a popular places for tourists to take photos.

Those who enjoy antiquities, coins and medals should head to Palazzo Schifanoia. This rather strange name is thought to originate from “schivar la noia“, meaning literally to “escape from boredom“. Since this palace and the nearby villas were the places where the Este court relaxed, the name describes accurately the building’s purpose.

The Palazzo Costabili (also know as Palazzo di Lodovico II Moro) is the house of the National Archaeological Museum in Ferrara.

For a change of scenery, go visit the Certosa Cemetery, known as the Certosa di Ferrara. Visiting a cemetery is always half cathartic, half creepy. But here, while walking under the porticoes decorated with sculptures, it is impossible not to feel a sense of calm and peace.

The 18th century Massari Park close to the cemetery is a nice place to rest in on a hot day. Must stop to take pictures with the impressive Lebanon cedar by the entrance!

Lascar Electronics have been providing digital display, data logging instruments globally since 1977. Lascar have a wide array of loggers each with their own distinct differences, some of which are more tailored to specific industries whether it be pharmaceutical or food preparation. My review is in the context of carrying out short dampness inspections within the social housing environment.
My favourite logger currently is the EL-USB-2+ or EL-USB-2-LCD+ which I have reviewed in the past. Whilst these loggers are not perfect they are more than capable of completing the tasks that I need from them. They are reliable, accurate, simple to use, fast to set up and are easily transported. In this review I want to know whether the brand new Lascar EL-SIE-2+ will knock the older USB loggers off the top spot to be the go-to data logger of choice.
Initial impressions
Firstly I want to briefly touch on Lascars product naming conventions. EL-SIE, EL-USB, EL-MOTE, ELWiFi.. they are not very good names. I feel like whoever is tasked with creating the name for a new device needs to inject some creativity for a name that is a bit more catchy and memorable.
The initial impressions of the EL-SIE are that it is a very slick looking device with a stylish brushed metal look. In my view its Lascars best looking data logger they have created to date and it only gets better once you take a look at the specs.
This logger has a memory capacity of a whopping 1,000,000 total readings, which equates to 500,000 readings per channel. When you compare this to the 16,000 readings you can get from the EL-USB loggers, the improvement in memory capacity is really impressive.
Other general specifications for the logger are as follows:
Operating Temperature Range -18 to +55°C Accuracy ±0.2°C Measurement Range (RH) 0 to 100%RH Accuracy ±1.5% typical 0 to 80%RH Logging Rate 10 secs to 24 hrs, user selectable Battery Life >Around 1 year (@ 10 min logging rate) Environmental Rating IP4X
The batteries are inserted into the side of the logger after removing two small screws. The logger takes two AAA batteries, I am very glad Lascar has opted for the AAA battery as they are very easy to obtain if they ever need to be swapped out and provide plenty of battery life. Inserting the batteries is foolproof with the battery diagram on the rear of the logger.
The logger will give you a warning when the battery is low and has a symbol showing you how much battery is left in the device. This is good as the last thing you want to do is set up a logger and have it in place for a week only to realise that it ran out of battery half way through the session.
Setting up the Logger
Setting up the logger is super easy and those familiar with the EL-USB logger set up with the software or datapad will find the options to be much the same. You have four sections when setting up the logger are general settings, temperature settings, humidity settings and start mode.
The settings are pretty self explanatory and allot of the settings I actually keep off. For example I do not set alarms on the logger as I am not looking for the logger to alert tenants to potentially tamper with them. I leave the LED screen off unless you press the button so that the loggers remain as discreet as possible.
After the general settings are complete, it is then just a case of putting in your basic parameters and then you can select the start mode. The start mode is how you would like the logger to start recording, this can be:
Push to start (push the button on the device to start logging)
Delayed start (set a future time and date to start logging)
Immediate start (start logging immediately)
Triggered start (set a parameter of RH or °C to trigger the logging session)
These options give you more than enough ways of starting the logging session. For me the push to start option is the most flexible as I can set up name and label each logger and then start the logger up when I arrive at the property. The other option that I would commonly use is setting them up using a laptop on site for the immediate start option.
Retrieving Data
Once the logging session is complete you are left with a few options for viewing the data that you have collected. If you connect the logger to a PC using the USB C cable you can immediately see the data on the logger through a web portal. The portal only remains open when a logger is connected. I tried connecting two loggers at the same time using two cables and opening two different portals but this would not work for me.
You can view a dashboard which gives you a general overview and a summary of the maximum and minimum readings. You can also view the graph view of the data, this view allows you to analyse he data recorded by zooming in to certain areas.
You can download the data from the logging session to your PC, this comes through as a .csv file that can be opened with Microsoft Excel. This is where I think Lascar have missed an opportunity as the file is not compatible with the EasyLog software that is used with the older USB loggers. This presents an issue if you want to analyse data saved on to your computer at a later date.
Another more minor gripe is that there doesn’t seem to be a way to clear the data from the logger without starting a new session. It would be nice to be able to clear the logger so that after you have used it you can clear the data and store them away until they are next needed.
The Cloud
Another option for viewing data is by uploading the logging session to the EasyLog cloud. By doing this you can view the data from multiple loggers simultaneously. This is exactly what I want when analysing multiple loggers after conducting a condensation survey as I will want to get a holistic view of the property.
When you record new data with a logger and upload it to the cloud it replaces the previous recorded session from that logger. This means what ever you are looking at on the cloud will be the most up to date recordings taken. Overall, the cloud functionality works really well.
Conclusion
If you are looking for a data logger with a larger capacity than the EL-USB loggers and that can view data quickly without the need for a software download the new EL-SIE logger is for you.
However, the portability of the older USB loggers when used in conjunction with the datapad as well as the ability to view historic data through the computer based EasyLog software might still be a deciding factor when deciding on whether to go for the upgrade.
If Lascar develop new software (or update the existing) to allow the downloadable .csv file to be viewed in graph format this will solve the issue of not being able to analyse historic data as well as giving the user more choice. If this happens, the EL-SIE data logger will truly be the best of the best.

Nat West Bank 1 Princes St Poultry Bank London City.
The bank area of London is one of my favourite areas. It looks like the NatWest branch is still open, but the flagship Midland Bank head office which was just behind it was closed down years ago. The Midland Bank became the Ned hotel. In the past at night, the various banks located here would swap gold bars etc to balance up each night.

At last we’re heading to Russia in Episode 8: Yuri vs Yuri The Horror!! Rostelecom Cup, Short Program. Victor and Yuri overcame a real hurdle as coach and student in episode 7 and came to understand each other a lot more as people but how has that prepared them to take on the competition in Victor’s homeland? Not to mention the long awaited rematch of Yuri Plisetsky against Yuri Katuski.

That said, last week I asked on Twitter which was your favourite free skate routine. Here are the results:
Right, time for a new Yuri on Ice poll and this week it is about your favourite free skate routine. If yours isn’t listed, feel free to reply.

Episode 8:
This episode opens a bit differently from normal as we don’t have an initial narration. Instead we hear the sound of a plane, we get some text that tells us we’re in Moscow and then we hear squeals as Yakov and Yuri Plistesky’s group are walking together. It’s a nice touch and a good lead in to getting some narration from Yuri Plistesky. Despite his fairly lengthy appearances in episodes 2 and 3, we really don’t know much about him nor have we heard his view on things. So the transition here is nice as is getting to see Yuri with his family. Also nice to see how Yuri Plistesky goes from being a much softer more human character when talking with his grandfather about food and then instantly becomes irked when he hears that Victor has arrived in the country. Sometimes it is hard to remember that Yuri Plistesky is still just a teenager and moments like this really help to make sense of some of his more over the top moments.
I’m not going to spend a huge amount of time on them, but here we meet quite a lot of the other skaters at the hotel. After transitioning from Yuri Plisetsky arguing with Victor we run into Yuri Katsuki standing in front of the elevator where he is joined by Seung-gil Lee (and I’m just going to point out that if anyone ever wants to make a spin-off anime about Seung-gil I’m 100% for that). Yuri takes the moment to once again show off his social anxiety and mentally notes there is no one in this round that he’s really friendly with making it a very different atmosphere. We then have the elevator door open and are introduced to Mickey and Sala (siblings who have their own dramas that play out as a minor plot point) and Emil. Sala, probably sick of Mickey and Emil’s bickering and possessiveness makes a minor pass at Seung-gil and he turns her down flat before attempting to exit the scene. The storm this causes allows Yuri to sneak off to a different elevator and leave the scene.
You could view all of this as filler but at the same time we’re about to watch these characters compete against Yuri so it is kind of nice that we see a little of their personalities as they arrive in Russia and prepare for the competition. Much like with Minami earlier in the series, despite only appearing for a couple of episodes, each of these characters leaves a mark in the narrative and on the viewers.
Of course, Yuri’s plan to avoid drama backfires as Yuri Plisetsky also gets on the same elevator and after a moment of strained and awkward attempted small talk from Yuri, Plisetsky essentially declares war once again. The contrast between the two characters is nicely managed here though unlike in earlier sequences neither is looking down at the other and they are standing side by side. It shows the growth they’ve both had as characters, despite Plisetsky’s sour expression. It also shows that the real rivalry between them is still for Victor’s attention even though Victor has made it pretty clear where he is interested.
Emil, Mickey and Seung-gil all skate in the first half and there’s a bit of build up around Mickey and Sala’s relationship and Mickey’s codependency, but I’m not going to focus a lot on that here. Finally we see Yuri preparing to skate and then we cut to Yuri Plisetsky who gets the news that his grandfather won’t make it to watch him skate. Now, all the way through the series Plisetsky’s seemed like the kind who isn’t very sentimental and other than his fixation on Victor doesn’t seem to hold onto emotional connections. And yet, the look on his face and the tone of voice when he realises his grandfather won’t be there speaks volumes and given what we’ve seen on the show so far, it is clear this is going to have an impact on his performance just when he has the chance to face Yuri again.
After the eye-catch we get a sequence at the hotsprings in Japan where we see the super cute Makkachin eyeing off some plastic wrapped offerings and you just know this isn’t going to end well. I remember the first time I watched this episode and how worried this sequence made me. Even knowing where it goes, I still feel a little sad for Makkachin as he watches the food so closely with that adorable look on his face.
But now it is time for Yuri to skate and once again we get a Victor and Yuri sequence to remember on the edge of the rink before beginning. It has been building up since episode 1 when Yuri asked Yuuko to watch him and every time since when he has been more aggressive in asking for Victor’s attention. Episode 1 he asks ‘please watch’ of Yuuko and that is the same request he makes of Victor in Episode 3. By episode 6 he tells Victor to ‘Never take your eyes off me’.
However, episode 8 takes this to a very new level of aggression and possessiveness. Possibly spurred on by the crowd cheering Victor’s name and feeling left out, Yuri forcibly pulls Victor toward him and commands his full attention as he states the performance has already begun. The sequence demonstrates where they are in their relationship as well as the uncertainty that Yuri is clearly still feeling about whether Victor is going to stay with him if he doesn’t make the final. There’s a lot of pressure riding on Yuri for his performance but he knows what he wants here. Even as he skates away we hear him thinking how embarrassing the scene was and yet he admits he’s trying to push back at the crowd and make his own stand. For someone who never had any confidence in himself, he finally wants something enough to overcome that fear and try to grab it and hold onto it.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Yuri Katsuki follows this with a fairly brilliant performance of Eros. However, as the fourth time we’ve seen this routine, we cut away a lot to the judges, Victor’s reactions, and to Yuri Plisetsky’s preparations for his own skate. There’s a sense of melancholy surrounding Plisetsky and we see him mostly from behind and looking fairly isolated as he prepares and watches the final moments of Katsuki’s routine. However, in typical Plisetsky fashion, he speaks with hostility when he Yuri Katsuki comes off the ice. Still, it is clear the young skater is putting up a tough front here and while he’s trying hard a lot of the usual impact is lacking from both his words and expression.
I think one of the things that gets overlooked about Yuri on Ice is that it isn’t just the people like watching Victor and Yuri. What really works for both of these characters is that they are genuinely nice people. They both have flaws and rough edges, they clash and have issues, but overall they are really the kind of people you would want in your life. This is evident when they see Yuri Plisetsky take the ice and they note that he’s found his agape and are both overjoyed. Yuri Katsuki is competing against Plisetsky and yet he is still happy to see his competitor has improved and has come a long way. This is just such a great part of the show and a lot of the reason it remains a joy to watch because it doesn’t let itself get bogged down in hostile rivalries that are actually destructive. Whether this is realistic is another story, but it is certainly a lot of the fun of watching.
The final skater to take the ice in the short program after both Yuri’s is JJ. JJ is a character we’ve seen a couple of times in news updates but until now we hadn’t actually met him at a competition. If Yuri Katsuki is someone who is overwhelmed by anxiety and a lack of confidence, JJ is his complete opposite. He is oozing confidence both in the lead up to taking the ice and as he prepares to skate. I find it interesting that both Yuri and JJ have songs named after themselves, JJ for the short program and Yuri for the free skate.
Everything about JJ’s performance is big. His personality come across through his music that he created that tells his story. He inspires the audience to clap and sing along and he’s working the crowd at every moment. For the first time we see JJ take the ice he leaves a large impression as a character who styles himself as larger than life. As much as you could call him arrogant, it isn’t as though he hasn’t worked to get there, and he isn’t actually antagonistic to the other characters. Still, JJ is the kind of personality I find hardest to deal with in real life and as a result he’s a character I find it difficult to feel anything for other than a hope that he doesn’t get in Yuri’s way. Still, he creates a fairly solid contrast in personality to a lot of the other characters and ultimately he’s a necessary personality in the final mix so he works well in the story.
For the most part, Yuri on Ice has avoided last minute cliff-hangers so it when this one came up while it did feel like a slightly cheap way of building some drama, it isn’t as though the event wasn’t foreshadowed earlier. At the end of the episode Yuri gets a call regarding Makkachin and he’s at the vet. This leads to Yuri telling Victor to return to Japan meaning Yuri is going to be on his own for the free skate. And I love this moment as Yuri desperately wants Victor with him but remembers his own pain at losing a pet when he wasn’t there and so tells Victor to leave. He does it without any strings attached and out of concern for Victor.
While Victor does ask Yakov to take care of him, I think we all knew this wasn’t a great situation and wondered how it would impact on Yuri’s next performance. Not to mention, don’t hurt the dog. I’ll leave you with the final screen before the credits.

Darjeeling in June will be a nature lovers delight. Birds chirping, wind blowing gently, green mountains smiling down and the clouds floating inside the rooms, that’s what holidays at Cedar Inn Darjeeling is all about. Located in Jalapahar road in Darjeeling, this picture perfect resort is like a fairytale palace.
It is designed at multiple levels with family rooms, deluxe rooms, suites and regular rooms.
Children play areas and small landscaped gardens at every level of the property make exploring fun. There are well laid out trails, which will help you take your dose of daily walks, without going out of the property. They have some of the best views in Darjeeling. Clouds, however, will be a big part of your trip. But that’s what makes Darjeeling magical.
Family trip to Darjeeling: What you must not miss
If you are traveling with children, you must visit the Darjeeling zoo
Do visit the mall and go for a horse ride, half trip, full trip or more. The horse trips are fun for both kids and adults.
Go for a toy train ride and visit the Batasia loop war memorial (10 min stop). The Darjeeling Himalayan railways, Batasia war memorial and Ghoom Museum are #World Heritage sites . The railways made traveling from the plains to the hills a matter of days while in the time before the rails, it took roughly a month!
All the pictures were taken in mid-June this year at around 12 noon. But the fog makes it look mysterious and middle of winter!

The Ghoom museum (20 min stop) is full of history about the toy train and the iconic Himalayan railways.
Both are stations on the train journey from Darjeeling to Ghoom and back. The toy train tickets can be booked online through the irctc website. It’s recommended you book tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.
Visit the Glenary’s bakery and restaurant. It’s iconic. The first-floor restaurant is gorgeous. They have both indoor and balcony seating. The menu includes continental, Chinese and Indian dishes . Food is simple and tastes good.

DARJEELING GLENARYS
This spacious all-day snacking destination has a selection of yummy baked desserts and other savory options.
My lazy day at the mall went something like this.
Walk up to the mall. Visit the tea shop at Golden tips. Roam around the shops while daughter goes for the pony ride with my hubby. Lunch at Glenarys.Back to the mall, looking at people, shopping and strolling down the road next to the Mahakaal temple(Shiv Mandir )near the mall. It’s strangely quiet, dreamy and green. There was a tree on the hillside with a land for sale written on it. I so wanted to call up the number. But was not encouraged to do so by my dear husband.
Darjeeling
Then back to Glenarys for cups of fragrant Darjeeling chai and my favorite blueberry cheesecake. Get one more packed and head for the car pick up stand. At the hotel some more chai and then dinner.
Amenities at Cedar Inn include:
Multi-cuisine restaurant
Children’s play area
Well stocked library
Garden areas
Indoor and outdoor play areas.
Cedar Inn is exemplary as a holiday property. Smiling service is the first reason. This one should be a no-brainer right? But the hospitality of each member of the staff makes the stay pleasant.
The views at Cedar Inn Darjeeling
Darjeeling views can be erratic in monsoons. The clouds play hide and seek all the time. More so during premonsoon and monsoons. The trick is to enjoy the clouds as much as await a glimpse of the gorgeous Kanchenjungha.
I visit Darjeeling Cedar inn for the green views tranquility and total distance from the crowds.Hustle and bustle and cacophony of the urban jungle is absent at the Cedar Inn.
But Darjeeling itself is overcrowded in tourist season you need to book your rooms in advance during holiday seasons. The good news.Plenty of hotels bed and breakfast guest houses to suit all budgets.
Sitting on the windowsill at Cedar Inn (Do not try without supervision)
Traveling from the hotel to tourist spots:
The Cedar inn has free drop and picks up services from the hotel to the mall area. You can also book local tours. The private taxis are in plenty. It’s expensive. If walking is not a problem you can skip . But sometimes you will need them if you have children or elderly in your group.
DARJEELING CEDAR INN
How to reach Darjeeling?
By train to NJP station or by plane to Bagdogra. Most of the hotel will arrange for pickup car for an additional charge. You will need to definitely mention while booking. It takes around 3 hours to reach the Cedar Inn hotel from NJP(New Jalpaiguri Railway station).Book those trains and planes which reach NJP or Bagdogra early in the morning. Traveling to the hills is best done in daylight.
Is it a Budget Hotel?
Cedar Inn is a tad expensive but well worth it. It is not a budget hotel.
Darjeeling weather and the best time to visit:
March to May(spring, summer), October to November ( autumn). The days are pleasant and gets cold as the sun sets. The skies are clear with good views of the majestic mountains.
June to September: Monsoons.E nd of June there was light to heavy rains with foggy days at most times.A very cool vacation to spend with your family.
December to February its very cold in winter but not withput its own beauty.
Next up :

I often take the kids to the beach to spend an afternoon – now that autumn is setting in and the days are not so hot and humid anymore, I think it is the perfect time to go! No need to worry too much about sunburns, the kiddos actually enjoy it more as it’s not that hot. Most of the time we go to public beaches, as the one in Mont Choisy or Trou aux Biches – the other option is to spend the afternoon at a hotel.
Last Friday I decided to treat the kids to a little luxury afternoon – Kiddos 1, despite being very nervous, did super well in her swimming gala and I thought that must celebrated. Big celebrations are great, but I think that smaller things are as important.
Sugar Beach Mauritius – gardens and pool
The Sugar Beach Mauritius
Part of the Sun Group, the Sugar Beach is one of these hotels that has been around forever. The first time my parents came to Mauritius they actually stayed there, that was 20 years ago.
The hotel is a big favourite for tourists and locals alike, and there are good reasons for that. It is truly a beautiful property: huge gardens, fabulous beach, gorgeous sunsets – many food and beverage options and well appointed rooms.
Garden rooms entrance and terrace – Sugar Beach Mauritius – Hotel in Mauritius
Room at the Sugar Beach Mauritius with welcome amenities! Sugar Beach Mauritius – Hotel in Mauritius
I have never stayed at the hotel but we did take a day room – I find it easier when with the children (also because we were coming directly from school) and we were lucky to get all these lovely amenities you can see on the bed! The kiddos loved all their pouches and other goodies. I have to say I didn’t find the rooms particularly big though they do have a nice bathroom and the terrace had beach view, which is lovely. Other of their rooms have garden views but they are all in the direction of the ocean, some are located on ground floor, others on the first floor.

It was such a beautiful day and we had lunch in Tides, the beachfront restaurant. They offer an international cuisine – salads, pizzas, tapas or sushi for example. They are very children oriented and have a large children menu. My salad was very nice – palm heart is a speciality both in Mauritius and Reunion Island. It is fresh here, nothing to do with the ones you get prepacked in brine in supermarkets in Europe: this one is crunshy – palm heart is high in fiber and potassium, low in calories. It is not at all served in the same way on the 2 islands – I actually prefer the Reunion Island style, but this is also nice! It was served with smoked marlin (Mauritius’ answer to smoked salmon) which is actually very good. Specially when enjoyed with gorgeous views, happy kiddos and a crisp glass of rosé! The kids were quickly finished with their food and off runing on the beach, to the pool or to the kids club. The great thing about being in a hotel is that the kids can roam freely around.

Activities for Children at the Sugar Beach
Sun Kids, the kids club for all the hotels of the Sun Group, is reknown for being very good across their hotels (La Pirogue, Long Beach and Sugar Beach of course) – my favorite goes to the Long Beach – but the kids had a very good time here as well. They asked to go, only stayed for an hour – but managed to get a good play as well as the traditional ‘gouter de 4 heures’ – that’s the name of the snacks kids get when back from school in France (why it’s called “4 heures” I am not entirely sure!). They have a large garden and a swimming area for the small ones. The actual indoor space is a bit dark and the other thing it is located in a far corner of the resort, so it’s quite a walk. As long as the kids like it, that’s the most important though! There was painted T-shirts hanging outside to dry, if I should guess from an activity earlier in the day – Sun Kids are usually very good with daily activities.
Sun Kids Club – Sugar Beach Mauritius
Pool at the Sun Kids Club – Sugar Beach Mauritius
Gardens at the Sun Kids Club – Sugar Beach Mauritius
The pool is located in the centre of the resort – there is a ‘kids side’ that is shallow and also a deeper end. The kids thought the water was starting to be a bit cold (but now they are completely spoiled and say it’s cold when it’s 25!) – I wonder where they get that from, or maybe not! If you know me, you also know that I don’t have much viking blood when it comes to coldish weather (or water, for that matter). The pool is very nice though and the kids had tons of fun!
Main Pool at Sugar Beach Mauritius – Hotels in Mauritius
Main Pool at Sugar Beach Mauritius
The beach of course is always full of wonders and the one at the Sugar Beach does not disappoint: hermit crabs, shells, shallow waters with small fishes swimming around and of course crab hunting – they love to run after the tiny crabs and see who can catch the most.
Beach of Sugar Beach Mauritius at Sunset
Other Activities at the resort
Well mammies also deserve some R&R – not that I really took advantage but for adults there are obviously also some things to do! Just as Long Beach, Sugar Beach’s spa is also Cinq Mondes – now I haven’t tried this one, but I would assume that their rituals are the same and well it is a nice treat! They have numerous water-sports to enjoy (some are free, others for a fee) and they have a lot of diving options just outside the lagoon. The also have a very nice adults-only pool (located not far from the kids club) – I think that is needed for those who need a little break from the very kid friendly hotel. The hotel is very big, it is not like you have screaming children everywhere at all, but some adults do like it quiet (even parents!).

Other than this, I was lucky that they were organising a small event on the beach for sunset the day we went. People of the Sun is a musical event organised at the Sugar Beach during some week-ends. Last week-end they had EvaD playing for sunset. I thought it went very well with the location and the sunset. You can check out next week-ends program here; if you are coming from the outside, make sure to call ahead for a reservation.

They are serving snacks and drinks on the beach during the event and there was a nice atmosphere – shame we couldn’t stay a bit later, but we have along drive home from the west coast!

Just before we left, we enjoyed a magnificent sunset! I just love this time of the day. We really had a lovely time and if I listen to the kids we should go every week-end!

I have just received a notification on my Facebook account, that the Long Beach Mauritius, our neighbour and one of my favourite in Mauritius, is organising a People of the Sun event this week end! So even though it happens without sunset (being on the east coast) am sure the set up is going to be awesome! I know what I am doing Friday for sunset – here is the event: People of the Sun at Long Beach. I like these kind of event that showcase local musicians and as for the Sugar Beach, make sure you make a reservation!

A day at Sugar Beach Hotel, Mauritius - from lunch to sunset I often take the kids to the beach to spend an afternoon - now that autumn is setting in and the days are not so hot and humid anymore, I think it is the perfect time to go!

The Peninsula is one of the most prestigious and renowned hotels in Hong Kong, every bit oozing with class and elegance. Felix is situated on the 28th floor serving modern European fare, with a smart casual dress code. Once we got in the dedicated elevator to the restaurant, we knew we were in for a treat. The lights dimmed halfway up to accustom our eyes to the dim lighting in the restaurant and after a short ride up, we entered the beautiful restaurant. Both sides of the restaurant were lined with ceiling to floor glass windows, on the right we had unobstructed views of Victoria Harbour and on the left we had stunning views of the city skyscrapers of Tsim Sha Tsui.
Decor of Felix at the Peninsula, Hong Kong
Decor of Felix at the Peninsula, Hong Kong
We barely had time to take in our surroundings before we were ushered to our table. The restaurant was dark, every table was lit with a single candle and the decor was minimalistic and chrome like. The back wall housed an enormous light table with two fake trees contrasted on a wave like textured metal-like background whilst the front of the restaurant had classic decor (above).
There were 2 tasting menus on offer along with a la carte options. We chose the classic tasting menu priced at HKD $1,688 (USD $216) per person with no wine pairings, HKD $2188 (USD $280) per person with 3 wine pairings of your choice and HKD $2438 (USD $312) per person with all 6 wine pairings.
Bread Basket: Hard crunchy rolls and soft rolls were served along with creamy soft butter, olive oil and a pot of light mustard. The mustard was light and not pungent and complemented the bread perfectly. Personally, I am not a massive bread fan but kept going back to the bread basket throughout the entire meal. My companion even stated that the bread was “on par with bread found on the streets of Paris”.
Botan Shrimp Tartar: This starter came on a shiny black block, simple, modern and visually stunning. The shrimp was fresh and buttery and the caviar was not overly salty. The crab salad and mousse came in a separate square container topped with a crispy seaweed cake which provided much needed crunch between the creamy mouthfuls. The dry champagne was perfect to cut through all the richness – a perfect pairing.
Duck Liver Mousse: This was my least favourite dish, mainly because I wasn’t a fan of the gamey flavour of the duck livers. The dish was served with cut up muscat grapes (!!!) and the apple sorbet served on the side was perfect as a palette cleanser to accommodate for the richness of the dish. There was also some sort of deep fried leaf on the top, apart from the presentation, I had no idea what else it was there for as it just tasted like…. a leaf.
Pan-seared Rock Fish: Now this dish was something special. First off, the Chardonnay-Riesling was not too dry and had a hint of sweetness to it, perfect for a hot summers day. The rockfish was served with squid ink foam, chopped up tomatoes, a squid dumpling and an ice plant. Lets just say this was a little slice of heaven. I would 100% come back just to order this dish again.
Slow cooked French Pigeon: The pigeon came medium rare and was tender and moist and mash was creamy. However, the quinoa was still grainy and unimaginative and I left that untouched. This was a standard dish in any high end restaurant, but nothing to write home about. The merlot however was surprisingly mild and very very smooth.
Grilled Japanese A5 Beef Striploin: This dish was hands down the standout dish of the evening. The medium-rare striploin was sliced and placed on a bed of fried garlic and beef consomme was poured over the top. The braised short rib was served in a separate bowl along with more consomme, diced potatoes, carrots and peas. My first bite of the striploin was mind-blowingly amazing. I have never been so moved by food before and was on the verge of tears at how good this beef was. It was tender, flavourful, moist and melted in my mouth but also had a bit of bite to it. The charred outside brought a different dimension to the dish, whilst the flecks of fried garlic gave it a punch. The consomme was heavenly and gave the beef more of that wonderful moisture. The braised short rib was tender, whilst the peas were surprisingly chewy. I did not want this course to ever end. This was such a stand out dish it justified the price of the meal outright.
“Felix Wall”: The dessert was not overly sweet which was a perfect end to the meal
and was not too dense or overpowering. The whiskey also had a surprising orange and chocolate flavour to it.
Tea/Coffee & Petit Fours: I had the chamomile tea whilst my companion had darjeeling. The petit fours were served on more black dishes, and consisted of madeleines, salted caramel tarts, chocolate ganache and coffee bites and sesame cookies. I was already super stuffed but had to try one of everything. My favourite was the salted caramel tarts followed by the chocolate ganache.
★★★★★
Overall this meal was stunning and our palates were tired from all the different explosions of flavours but I say this was a win. This is hands down the most expensive meal I have ever had but I think it was well worth the price tag.
Food Highlights: The Grilled Japanese A5 striploin (HKD $1,180 a la carte) or the Pan-seared Rockfish (unfortunately only available on the tasting menu)
One thing you must do: The bathrooms are stunning. The ladies has the view over the harbour which you can admire whilst fixing your makeup in the three mirrors in front of the large window. The mens have three open air urinals made from green marble overlooking the city. My companion says that the freedom of urinating whilst staring at the city made him feel powerful and invincible. Both bathrooms have a toilet attendant there to tend to all your needs and boast a large free standing sink that could double as a work of art.
