today, as I re-read ch 3 of Trigun Maximum vol 1, the focus of our story shifts to post-timeskip Meryl! what's she up to? what strange new translation discrepancies will I stumble upon next? let's jump right in and find out! 😁
(NOTE: I'm reading the Dark Horse [physical] and the Overhaul [online] translations side-by-side)
ok so the moment I saw the first page, I had to go grab Trigun vol 1 for comparison purposes.
SO. a couple things I wanna note about the in-'verse timeline, for posterity:
Lost July happened on July 21, 0104
Fifth Moon happened in October of 0110
at Fifth Moon, Vash references the Fall as having happened 150 years ago...
...which has me thinking that some major post-Fall event led to the decision to start a new calendar "era" - like how, in tristamp, the "Planet Era" was heralded by humanity managing to establish a planet-wide radio network using a satellite that was launched pre-Fall (source: Studio Orange on Twitter)
(SIDE-NOTE: on the sheet we see Meryl hand Roberto towards the beginning of tristamp ep 1, we see Meryl's birth year marked as "PE081" and her age as "23" - which tells us that tristamp starts in the year 0104 - which tracks with the date the manga gives us for Lost July! and also has me thinking we won't have a Fifth Moon in the new anime, but I digress;;;;; )
Trigun Maximum picks up 2 years after Fifth Moon (0112)...
...but we first see post-Fifth Moon Meryl on her 23rd birthday in February of 0113...
...meaning a few months have passed since we met Eriks!
oh, and that office lady, Karen, says Meryl's Vash assignment was 4 months long, which puts the start of Trigun vol 1 at July of 0110!
anyway. I thought that was interesting. if it hasn't been done already, it would be cool for someone to keep track of the manga timeline (someone who isn't me, lmao - I've already spent over an hour on this post;;;;; )
(Dark Horse on top, Overhaul on bottom)
anyway! here's the first little translation discrepancy that jumped out at me this chapter! similar wording, sure, but to me, subtle differences in meaning and overall vibes the phrasing gives off rly emphasizes Vash's softness in the Overhaul 💕
(Dark Horse on left, Overhaul on right)
but this? lol idk, man ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
additional shit in the Overhaul's translation! not surprised that Keele seems like even more of an asshole here lmao
...ok but it's rly funny to think about the possibility that all Vash knows about insurance agents comes from his impressions of Meryl and Milly. so. I guess in his mind, Keele's just par for the course 🤣
subtle difference in wording here, but thanks to the Overhaul, this little bit makes a lot more sense to me this read-through =u=
same deal here!
wow, they're married... 🤣🤣🤣
and again! Dark Horse had me thinking Meryl was talking about Vash here. the Overhaul makes it clear that, no, she's talking about that asshole Keele
#trigunbookclub#text postan 2k23#glad everyone's enjoying these posts! 😁#they take so many spoons to make so I'm rly happy they're not just falling on the wayside;;;;;

The best and worst films of 2023, so far
Updated 1 day ago | By Shelby Weimer
There have already been so many great films to come out of 2023, and some have been not-so-great. Look, not every film can be Barbie. So far, here are the 10 best and 10 worst films of the year.
1 of 20
Best: 'Spiderman: Across the Spider-Verse'
Sony Pictures
The long-awaited sequel to Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse did not disappoint! Spiderman: Across the Spider-Verse is a masterpiece in every way: it's visually appealing, has a stellar soundtrack, amazing performances by the cast, a great story, and well-crafted characters. 10/10.
2 of 20
Best: 'Oppenheimer'
Universal Pictures
Considered to be writer and director Christopher Nolan's best film to date, Oppenheimer is, in short, an experience. As someone who went into it with zero expectations, I was (quite literally) blown away by the artistry. The film doesn't glorify the man who made these weapons possible but instead focuses on the consequences of failing to stop and ask ourselves if this is something that should even exist.https://live.primis-amp.tech/content/video/amp/videoIframe.php?s=113281&kv_1=Entertainment&kv_2=39158737#amp=1
3 of 20
Best: 'Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3'
Disney
Like any Marvel movie, Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3 was a good time. Seeing Rocket in peril got me a little worked up at times. While I'm still not one hundred percent on board with the new Gamora, I enjoyed it and, as always, the soundtrack.
4 of 20
Best: 'John Wick: Chapter 4'
Lionsgate Films
I'm usually skeptical of an action franchise and certainly took my time before watching the first one, but four films in, John Wick is still unbeatable. It's the neo-noir stylization for me — and Keanu Reeves is a bađass. https://389065b186015edddebace3e1e4c5a84.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-40/html/container.html?n=0
5 of 20
Best: 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem'
Paramount Pictures
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhemwas so much fun! It is honestly the only animated TMNT film I care to watch due to its animation style and humor (Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg were involved, after all). On top of that, it had a great cast, which I'm sure will make the sequels just as successful.
6 of 20
Best: 'Barbie'
Warner Bros.
This film was everything I ever wanted and more, and dare I say "sublime"? First of all, its marketing was on point, and not only did it have a great message, but it was also super funny! Snaps for Greta Gerwig, as Barbie is the highest-ever-grossing film directed by a woman.https://389065b186015edddebace3e1e4c5a84.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-40/html/container.html?n=0
7 of 20
Best: 'BlackBerry'
Elevation Pictures
I am a sucker for biographical films, and BlackBerry, starring Glenn Howerton and Jay Baruchel, is no exception. Although it's a fictional take on the real story of the rise and fall of "CrackBerry," it's a fun ride that ultimately makes me miss BlackBerry. Tetris, starring Taron Egerton, is another biographical film that deserves an honorable mention.
8 of 20
Best: 'Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves'
Paramount Pictures
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is one of the funniest I've seen this year! I do not play D&D, so I had no real interest in seeing the film, but when Chris Pine is involved, I have to give it a shot. The decoy scene is, by far, the best. I cannot recommend it enough.https://389065b186015edddebace3e1e4c5a84.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-40/html/container.html?n=0
9 of 20
Best: 'Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny'
Disney
As a casual Indiana Jones fan, I enjoyed this film. It was a big improvement since Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which gave audiences a great story and a great cast, including Phoebe Waller-Bridge, John Rhys-Davies, and Karen Allen, reprising their roles. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny was no bomb, and I stand by this!
10 of 20
Best: 'No Hard Feelings'
Sony Pictures
No Hard Feelings was absolutely hilarious and deserves more praise. Given her range, Jennifer Lawrence could have chosen any project and would have been amazing, but I was happy to see her show off her comedy chops again. The film received generally positive reviews, but I have questions for those who weren't on board. https://389065b186015edddebace3e1e4c5a84.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-40/html/container.html?n=0
11 of 20
Worst: 'Ghosted'
Apple TV+
Ghosted was a film everyone was excited about, most likely due to Chris Evans being Chris Evans, but it didn't receive the best reviews from critics. Although the action-packed rom-com fell a little flat, it is certainly one of Apple TV+'s more popular films to date, as it is the platform's most-watched film premiere. Its only redeeming qualities are, quite possibly, the Marvel cameos.
12 of 20
Worst: 'Fast X'
Universal Pictures
Somehow, there are 10 Fast & Furious movies, so it's no surprise that Fast X wasn't necessarily considered a masterpiece. The only factor that seemed to keep critics from giving primarily negative reviews was Jason Momoa's performance, and we cannot fault them for that.https://389065b186015edddebace3e1e4c5a84.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-40/html/container.html?n=0
13 of 20
Worst: 'Your Place Or Mine'
Netflix
Your Place Or Mine was not the worst film to come out of Netflix, but it was obviously not the best (and I'm sure it won't be the last). In a perfect world, it should have worked; we had Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher. It would have made for a cute movie, but ultimately, audiences just weren't buying their connection.
14 of 20
Worst: 'You People'
Netflix
You People should have been a great film, given its cast, but it kind of just made people a little uncomfortable, and not in a good way. It had its funny moments but could have been so much more, even with the message it was trying to convey.
15 of 20
Worst: 'Hypnotic'
Relativity Media
Hypnotic, starring Ben Affleck,is not Gigli bad, but oh man, it was not good. The film was poorly marketed and, unfortunately, boring to those who did see it, with critics agreeing that it was like a Christopher Nolan knock-off. There, there, Ben.
16 of 20
Worst: '65'
Sony
65 isn't the worst movie to come out of 2023, having received generally positive reviews from audiences compared to critics who found it lacking in originality. If you're in the mood for a sci-fi thriller or Adam Driver, give it a watch, but don't expect too much.
17 of 20
Worst: 'Magic Mike's Last Dance'
Warner Bros.
The general consensus between audiences and critics seemed to be that the dancers were great, but the film was once again lacking in plot. While Channing Tatum and Salma Hayek are great, I'm still unsure how Magic Mike got another sequel.
18 of 20
Worst: 'House Party'
Warner Bros.
This is one of those movies you either love or hate, but the remake of the 1990 film seemed to have more haters than admirers. While it has its moments, I think most agree that House Partyshould have been left alone.
19 of 20
Worst: 'Knights of the Zodiac'
Sony
Knights of the Zodiac seemed to disappoint critics and fans of the manga series. Although the visuals were occasionally appealing, they were not enough to make up for the film's weak storytelling.
20 of 20
Worst: 'Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey'
Altitude Film Distribution
I'm sure I could have just posted this image with zero explanation, and everyone would completely understand. Why was this film made? Despite its poor execution, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey was a box office hit, and a sequel is currently in the works.

Whiterose Masterpost
Hello dear followers, here is a new review of RWBY and I must say that I am going to make this new review based on a small debate that is forming online after this season.
First of all I really like the Bumbleby but I am very objective in the subject, they will be aware that the BB is about to be canon or probably already is and this was confirmed by Kerry in the last RWBY Review.
But what about Whiterose?
Lately I was reading that the Bumbleby was planned "from the beginning" But what about Whiterose?
Do you remember Monty video about LGBT characters and relationships?
Look, he did not refer to characters like Ilia, Terra etc. Do you know why? because those LGBT characters that were established did not have "development" they were simply there ... because the LGBT characters that Monty referred to were from the main caracther someone they were going to develop and their response reveals a lot:
"Sure, the best part of that ... is that maybe they are already there, because they are children (Lol what Ozpin said) ... they are on a way to try to help themselves discover themselves, not even we have to make the decision quickly because as we write these characters we learn from them, so they discover it is very real for us, there are many cast members who say that these couples would be great ... but we can not push it, but it has to be won and that's the best way to do it, we try to see more of his gender ".
Basically in those moments the Staff and Monty of all the things that they planned were debating. What would the "LGBT Couple developed" be? (Whiterose or Bumbleby) because it is obvious that this does not refer to the "secondary" since those are not developed yet, while the other principals Jaune was already hooked with Pyrrha, Ren and Nora either (so there is no debate in which he refers to the protagonists)
Although seeing everything rwby apparently they are developing both ship
Weiss x Ruby and Yang x Blake
If I'm honest, I think they both had signs although it's impossible not to see how in the first 3 volumes the Whiterose surpassed the Bumbleby.
Why do I affirm this? the reason is that in the first volume the approach that the Whiterose received is too much compared to the Bumbleby.
In fact the greatest dynamics of the first volume was Arkos and Whiterose
The meeting of Weiss and Ruby was much more important than the Bumbleby and that is a fact
The dynamics of them were so funny because they were so opposite, but it is obvious that Monty liked to address every aspect of his dynamics.
The phase of accepting as partners was great
is the classic dynamic of silly-adorable girl with noble girl-tsundere
As I said before in this volume the Bumbleby was not even focused on any measure.
But instead the Whiterose already presented us with a new stage (the leadership) the fact that Weiss did not accept Ruby as a leader is quite important... because when the conflict is resolved gives Ruby a unique confidence and development as a protagonist
I think the next scene is one of the most tender and emotional ... The first thing we see is that Weiss is surprised to see Ruby asleep from studying so much
It's great how they approach all kinds of dynamics and if there is a problem it is solved in a brilliant way ... Ruby's smile towards Weiss is undoubtedly one of the sweetest and at the same time the kindness of Weiss stands out a lot.Ruby's smile when Weiss says something about her pass is a very nice detail
As they saw their team dynamics was developed and they have many funny moments and the one that stands out the most
Vol 2
Even at the beginning of Vol 2 in the middle of jokes always Monty put the Whiterose ... in fact that scene inspired a famous gag of the manga, I must say that it is logical (it is almost a Japanese cliche yuri)
Again in the food fight instead of pointing out the Bumbleby, the Whiterose sticks out, what makes me laugh is that Ruby treats Weiss in a more "special" way
again there is almost no focus on the Bumbleby, instead the Whiterose:
The difference between the rival ship of WhiteRose and Bumbleby
For example, the scene in chapter 3 where the girls have their infiltration plan but the handsome boys appear.
Ruby automatically joins Sun-Blake and Neptune-Yang ... but Neptune is flirting with Weiss and she wants to go with him, the funny thing is that Ruby does understand but her reaction was "Fuck you come with me"
His tsundere attitude is always nice, even when she is upset with Ruby because of what happened with Neptune ... she was disappointed that Ruby left her because of Penny.
I love that narrative of how she would have preferred Ruby to be there
something that makes me laugh at that scene, is that Yang does not say anything about Blake and Sun that contrasts with the other dynamic ... to be something "Planned from the beginning" this was weird
Did you see the difference? Is very evident
In fact part of the function of Neptune was that Jaune stopped trying to conquer Weiss, that's why Neptune personality never really changed and it was not going to be anything important for Weiss
Even when Neptune returned to the party with Weiss because of something that Jaune told him, this did not help them to develop them or anything, in fact they do not do anything.
they did not even bother to focus it
Again many elements that the Bumbleby owns appeared with the Whiterose such as the "Secret Language"
To summarize things at the end of the Vol there are scenes where you could say that all the "pairs" of the series are together and it is obvious that the Whiterose is included
It was a great volume for the Whiterose as always
Vol 3
Whiterose chapter 1-4
I must say that the vol 3 is one where there are very few moments of "ship" whatever your ship ... but I think the Whiterose highlighted on the others (even though the Bumbleby was planned from the "Start")
I love that Ruby always wants to be aware of how Weiss perceives her and the writers do a good job in that.
As mentioned before the Whiterose really did not have "rival ship" because as seen in chapter 2 of Vol 3 instead of even joining them so that the audience says "hey there is a possibility" they show us that they will not be together.
It even contrasts with Sun and his friendly flirting with Blake
Even before the chapter ends, the writers make Ruby stay close to Weiss as an advancement that both will see the "mentor" of Weiss.
It is an irony that a chapter after the ship of Weiss and Neptune failed, the Whiterose took a very big step to make Ruby meet the only family to whom Weiss has great appreciation and respect
I always laugh at this scene, the way it is written is phenomenal: Weiss presents Ruby, that Winter says "you took interest in my sister" is an interesting selection of words ... besides that the attitude of Ruby all uncomfortable is parallel to that of Sun when he is with Blake parents
The fact that the role models of our girls fight in that scene says a lot
Chapter 5 was about an interaction between Penny and Ruby that is basically an advance of the future misfortune, in addition to the team fight of Yang and Weiss
Chapter 6 was about Phyrra decision and Yang duel against Mercury
Chapter 7 was a Flashback to understand the situation
Chapter 8: After 8 chapters recently, they give us a little Bumbleby moment, but even so it was a group thing, although if it counts, the other part was occupied by Pyrrha and Ruby, each one following their story separately.
Chapter 9: Cornered Ruby, Cinder plan and Penny death, Grimm attack in addition to Roman release
Chapter 10: Battle of the hunters against the Grimm, Ruby goes to meet Roman and the meeting of Blake against Adam
Chapter 11: Battle of the hunters against the Grimm, Clash of Ruby against Roman and Neo, death of Roman, then the Adam-Blake-Yang moment (Bumbleby's biggest moment so far) ... Cinder gets the powers of one of the Maiden.
Chapter 12
What can I say about this chapter? Apart from the obvious, the Whiterose interaction is very good
It's always funny to see how Weiss dedicates that little smile to Ruby is something exclusive of both
It's funny how in that chapter in the middle of the chaos of the battle the "couples" stand out, although I think the most obvious is that at that moment Ruby and Weiss made a parallel opposite to Jaune and Pyrrha
As you saw here the Whiterose was a pretty complete ship and was really following a slow development, I mean compare it with the Bumbleby:
-It was not just a ship that had more development -It has the same number of important moments -It had 3 times more time on screen
Whiterose crisis (Vol 4 and 5)
After the great development of Ruby and Weiss in the first 3 volumes, what could go wrong?
Monty unfortunately died and his friends continued with his legacy ... but it is not the same, something that many began to notice was that Ruby lost a lot of prominence and of course they squandered the opportunity to develop it in parallel with Jaune
This being honest is a volume that I like very much except for the development that Ruby was given ... in general Ruby in the first chapter was more joking with Team RJNR and that's fine but the moments in which it should be used in develop Ruby as a character were wasted
In chapter 2 of that Vol, do you remember the scene where Ruby looks at Jaune sad about Phyrra? That was a great moment for Jaune as a character, but it could also have been for Ruby ... but nothing was done and it was left to the air.
Literally the most I saw of "Development" is when I attack Tyrion aggressively to save his uncle ... but it was a short scene.
One of the biggest complaints of that Volume was that Jaune stole everything that should be the development of Ruby questioning, the grief and basically the elements of the protagonist ... in addition to his connection with Weiss that is quite focused on the previous ones volumes
the last scene where Ruby character could have been given more depth before focusing on Ruby made Jaune give him a 1 minute speech and then the whole end of the season to be focused on Ren and Nora ... basically Ruby's development It was a total crap .., in fact Jaune had to say this is so stupid.
Weiss in Volume 4
As with Ruby, weakening the great dynamics between Ruby and Weiss made the Weiss saga a bit lower than it would have been ... do not get me wrong, its part in the volume is very good but it could have been exceptional, in that Weiss volume has 24 minutes of screen
Something I noticed in Vol 4 is that even if Weiss was very dissatisfied with his situation, there is really no scene where she misses his teammates or anything like that..(although he left it understandable in a scene I think it was better to execute it in a better way)
Chapters where Weiss appears -Episode 2 -Chapter 6 -Chapter 7 -Chapter 9 -Chapter 11
The only thing that we can appreciate of this arch was the idiots that are the rich, the crisis of Atlas touched by General Ironwood, the rules of Weiss father and his general discontent since she does not want to be like his father ... but in if it was a regular arc and what I highlight is that he learned to invoke ... although the consequences of the writing of Kerry and Miles affected Weiss in Volume 5.
Vol 5 (Weiss the Bumbleby Shipper)
I think it's no surprise to anyone that the Staff had a taste for Bumbleby in fact in Vol 4 they put quite subtextual scenes between them even though they were separated ... but they forgot the Whiterose a lot and this is reflected in this volume (which as you know it was the worst of all)
Ruby narrative at the beginning of the volume literally does not exist...I mean, she is there with her friends and everything. But does something relevant happen? Does she question something? She have any development? unfortunately she does not have it ... The only thing she did was to become friends with Oscar and even if that is not possible, it could be considered a "protagonist" action since in the end everyone did it
One of the things that really bothered me in this Volume is that they decided to have Weiss approach Yang so she can be a builder of the Bumbleby plot. What do I mean?
When Weiss is captured (for no reason) because she should be with Yang and then have more confidence in having the "talk" with her.
I remember the scene where they both embrace and I said "what a nice scene" but then I said to myself, really? ... if some in the fandom keep saying
"But Yang does not have many scenes with Blake in the first 3 Volumes" which part this is true ... but now ask
How many had with Weiss? The truth is that their interactions were very vague. In fact, Weiss interacted more with Blake because of the White Fang incident, the only time they had a long interaction was in a Vol 3 combat but more of that I did not understand because they decided to make that scene between those two.
but is fine
What bothers me about that scene is that when Weiss meets Ruby, instead of making a more intimate scene between the two of them it was something group and again that's not bad ... but:
Why did Miles and Kerry prefer to make a lonely scene of Yang and Weiss? he is too stupid as if Pyrrha revived but Kerry and Miles put a very significant scene with Ren ... but when she meets Jaune (There is only a group hug)
Makes sense? Obviously not ... but I'm going to say the reason why this narrative bothers me a lot.
While Ruby is still relegated in this volume, our beloved Weiss with no apparent reason was much closer to Yang, while relegating his interactions with Ruby many say "What is the problem" well this is simple.
Not only this is the reason why Ruby lost a lot of prominence in this Vol in particular ... but the reason for bringing Weiss and Yang closer was only for it to drive the Bumbleby and it is like ignoring past volumes
In this scene basically Yang is doing his drama for Blake of how he "needs her, who was there for her and blah blah blah" that parallels Ilia ... well it's good writing if you want to push the Bumbleby ... now that I think it even when I love the Bumbleby the only thing that irritates me that thanks to this we lost good interactions between Ruby and Weiss ... that for some reason they refused to offer us, I mean after the Phyrra did neither of them have a talk? although the damage was already done from Vol 4
In that scene Weiss shares something very intimate with Yang, but as I said it's a bit empty that the writers decide to do this with the two of them ... it's as if Jaune did this with Nora (something fucking weird and the worst thing is that it would be for boost another ship) ... literally the narrative relegated Ruby too much.
Continuing the narrative of Weiss and Ruby, we can appreciate how in the conflict against Cinder not only is not something of great impact on Weiss and Ruby but it is decided to make one of the most stupid scenes of all RWBY (Make Jaune the protagonist) ... make a drama between Cinder-Jaune-Weiss where the narrative focused on Jaune's emotions when Weiss is wounded.
Where was Ruby? pulled out of the plot when they were about to kill Weiss.
The importance that they gave to the interactions between Weiss and Yang was very strange if not forced, those of giving focus to those of Jaune with Weiss were much rarer and literally the dynamics of these is the least developed of all. But do you know what is the worst?
That Yang does not do so much "drama" for what happened with Weiss I'm not saying that she does not "worry" but really did almost nothing with that dynamic...Vol 5 is supposed to have made them "closer"
Why not keep focusing on them? ... Because obviously give more prominence to Jaune and of course since Weiss was not going to boost the ship of Yang and Blake ...why give them more scenes with Yang?
Weiss is one of my favorite characters and I mean it but in this volume it was crap.
The worst climax of Vol 5 is that literally Weiss neither thanks Jaune nor has any "link" with him after that, not even a small gratitude scene (I made a meme of that) ... but going back to matter, Blake comes back and that just happens
(Weiss remembers that Ruby exists) For what reason? because it is no longer necessary to boost the Bumbleby xDD ... I mean it's hilarious how Miles and Kerry destroyed what could have been a big volume for these two but obviously it was the turn of the Bumbleby ... shit like I hate what they did in this volume, even when I'm happy for the BB (it should be done differently)
the looks that Weiss gives Ruby are the most loving in all rwby (a pity we had to wait too long for this)
The way in which Weiss looks at Ruby in that scene is the same as that of Yang to Blake and that can not be denied
Weiss and Ruby in Volume 6 (The rebirth of Whiterose)
Do you know one of the main reasons why this Volume was great?
If you can not guess, I'll tell you that the Whiterose came back stronger than ever, even though the Staff was going to focus the Bumbleby ... the Whiterose narrative was not going to be affected.
The scene of both in the opening is so cute (besides that it is literally a cliche yuri) I love that the opening also shows us that Weiss is the closest person to Ruby and his greatest support
Many focus on the teamwork of Yang and Blake but I think the most remarkable thing was the dynamic of Ruby and Weiss was simply a genius.
All this in the first minutes (as a bonus)
I loved the scene in which Weiss dedicates that smile that only has reserved for Ruby ... a pity that those hunters interrupted the moment
Besides, I want to remind you that again the Staff brought Neptune who was still the same idiot as always, besides the fact that they do not bother to spend a moment between him and Weiss.
Many talk about the Bumbleby moments of chapter 5 ... but I think the Whiterose moments are just as good.
Weiss feels tired, sad and wants the company of Ruby and our foolish protagonist does not even notice it, it's just cute
I like the fact that while the Bumbleby there is a lot of "drama" the Whiterose is developing without needing that focusing as both complement each other
I like how Narrative makes Weiss the first person to appear after they tell Ruby to think about the people who love her
this also happened in previous chapters, in the same scene where Yang focuses on Blake and Blake focuses on Yang ... Ruby first thinks of Weiss and Weiss only focuses on Ruby (a great parallel)
Again in chapter 8 Weiss is full of insecurity and Ruby is there to give her support ... Weiss dedicates that little smile again, to be interrupted by Qrow
Vol 6 chapter 11-13
What can I say about this? I just loved it, there were Renora moments, team work ... but the scenes of Weiss and Ruby stood out
The scene where Ruby almost claims that she just wanted Weiss to be by his side in the battle was great
more scenes of dynamics together
Although the most significant scene was in which Ruby almost died and Weiss rescues her.
The expressions of the "ice queen" are great, her fear that something happens to Ruby is tender and even more so if we consider that she still does not let go of his hand ... Ruby makes a joke to relieve attention to the once showing his absolute confidence in Weiss with "I knew you would"
Ruby expression at Weiss discomfort is very funny but I liked the fact that Weiss is still angry about Ruby imprudent actions.
It's almost a couple fight
Although the thing does not end there, the next scene next Ruby is together with Weiss separated...but for some reason the Staff decided that both are clinging in a tender way in the middle of the fight when it was not necessary.
It is obvious that they were put together and I must say that I love it (besides that it is more suspicious when this chapter stood out the ship of the series)
I saw some post about how in the memories of Ruby the Bumbleby focused, it is debatable ... but really the same thing was done with the Whiterose
The memory of Weiss and Ruby from Vol 1 was one of the most beautiful and coming back to the scene is really quite significant
The Vol 6 can be considered correctly the saga "Bumbleby" for all the necessary development between Yang and Blake ... but this Vol also had a lot of Whiterose but in preparation for the Weiss arc that directly involved Ruby ... it was a great volume for the Whiterose
Bonus
Something that I always noticed that the Bumbleby had a lot of external support from the Staff ... but in the additional material the support was regular. How does the Whiterose compare?
The Whiterose is the third most popular ship and still has a great focus on all the Anthalogias and in fact the element "yuri" is stronger than with the Bumbleby in these adaptations
Many talk about the flirtation that Yang does to Blake ... but it does not compare to the flirting that Ruby does to Weiss in these sleeves
It's not to say anything, but the Japanese understand the yuri signals of this ship
RWBY official manga
If this is not enough, I think you should see the adaptation to RWBY manga in the Shonen Jump.
The focus of that manga is directly on the Whiterose even though Bumbleby and Arkos give more obvious signals ... but the Whiterose stands out above all of them
also it should be noted that Monty liked Whiterose a lot, I still remember his art of both and clearly retweeted several fan art from this ship
Conlusion
It is evident that the Whiterose was established as "End game" as well as the Bumbleby in fact a little more, so Whiterose companions do not get discouraged because the Bumbleby is canon, since when opening that door ... it leaves a world of possibilities and thanks to the Vol 6 that left many things to develop between Ruby and Weiss as the Vol 5 left many things pending for the Bumbleby.
That said, I'll finish the review with something obvious to everyone "Whiterose best ship"

5 Questions
I was tagged by @tortuosity-writes. Thank you! I’m going to answer about my current WIP, Temperance , which is my primary writing focus at this point!
1.) What was the idea that started the story?
It all started with an angst prompt of “Going somewhere?” which I filled and which involved me throwing a wrench into the relationship between Alistair and my Warden OC, Lucia. To summarize, Luce goes to Amaranthine without Alistair and he assumes the worst. Once I did that terrible thing, I immediately had to write a fix-it fic in which I put them back together (It’s here, although its no longer completely accurate). Now, as part of this fix-it fic, I created a Cousland OC with the express purpose of being another wrench in Alistair and Lucia’s relationship. I did not even bother to come up with a unique name for her, as I expected to use her once and toss her to the side after a squished my OTP back together angstily. Unfortunately, the unforseeable happened. Elissa, or “Liss” as I had begun to call her endearingly, developed this charming little personality, and quickly became a favorite character of mine. She was equal parts kind, funny, and strong, and I just knew that I could not end her story with her being tossed to the side. She deserved better!
Prior to writing the story, I had just begun another playthrough of Dragon Age Awakening, and I developed an obsession with mild interest in Nathaniel, and so he ended up becoming Lucia’s main companion in her quest to Denerim to repair her relationship with Alistair. I originally intended, right until the middle of the story for him and Anora to have A Thing. However, as the story was drawing to a close, and as I became to Liss, it hit me. A Nate/Cousland pairing would be really fun and solve my problem. Not only would it let me do something with my new OC, but it also gave me a reason to explore Nathaniel’s character further, and to write a story that allowed me to explore themes I love like coming of age, resilience, and intimacy that defies any typical sense of the word. Thus the fic was born.
2.) Did you make an outline? Did you stick to it?
Back in March of 2019, I sat down for three hours and mapped out the fic. I knew that I needed some semblance of structure because my one previous attempt at a long fic failed miserably due to my lack of plan and direction. Also because I intended to jump back and forth between the past and the present, with certain key moments mirroring one another. I knew that it would take some forethought to make that work. I started out with 25 chapters to complete the story, and estimeated a wordcount of about 72K. While I stuck to the original pattern, I realized that there was so much more of the story (particularly the past) that I wanted to tell, and so I ended up adding chapters. My chapters also grew in length. So now I have 41 chapters plus an epilogue planned, and I just finished up Chapter 30.
3.) What’s the favorite part of your story?
It’s really hard to say what is my favorite part of the story since it is in progress, but I do know that there are certain types of scenes that I have enjoyed writing the most. I’ve really loved delving into platonic relationships, especially the relationship between Nathaniel and Fergus, which is something that just organically developed as I was writing. I loved delving into family dynamics and the different relationships that these characters had with one another.
Outside of that, proably my favorite part(s) so far have been when Liss and Nate first met, Nate’s last summer in Highever, the reunion, and the most recent chapter that I based off of Nate’s entry in World of Thedas Vol. 2. It’s all been fun, but those were the funnest! ;D
4.) Who is your favorite character and why?
I have several favorite characters, some of them expected (Nathaniel and Liss, of course), but others that surprised me that I enjoyed writing them so much. Fergus Cousland is one character that I have written that I just absolutely adore. He often acts as the voice of the writer (as well as the reader from time to time), and so he gets to say the things we all want to scream at the main actors in the story. Another character that I’ve developed such a fondness for, even in his incredibly small role, Benedict “Ben” Kenric, one of Bram Kenric’s “unnamed” siblings that I gave a name and a personality, and who is just an absolute puppy dog of a human. He’s a fellow squire of Nate’s in Starkhaven and a really close, loyal friend. A real Ride or Die kind of person.
5.) Did anything happen that surprised you as you were writing?
Loads! I think some of the more surprising “huh, Allison. Didn’t expect that one,” things include: retconning Thomas Howe’s death, a thing that wasn’t a thing with Sebastian Vael, and the fact that I absolutely LOVE writing Rendon Howe (even as much as I want to kick him in the stomach every time he shows up in a chapter). One surprise that is not related to the actual writing of the story itself has been the immense outpouring of encouragement and support that I’ve gotten since I started writing. I’ve been very fortunate, and it’s made the journey so much fun!
I’ll tag @ravenqueen89, @chaotic-good-hawke, @darlingrutherford @bitchesofostwick , @laurelsofhighever , and anyone else who sees this and would like a reason to talk about their projects, both complete and WIPs. (No obligations of course!!)

Reading Long - March 2019
Volume’s read: 12
As per usual, no spoilers unless otherwise tagged and I obtained all of these volumes in Japanese from Bookwalker.
Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata 8 by Fumiaki Maruto
A welcome breather after the last few volumes of non-stop drama. It felt a lot more like the early volumes but I enjoyed it anyway. I swear Katou’s relationship with Eriri is the true love story of this series. Even though it’s only been a couple of months since I read the first two volumes, I couldn’t help but be nostalgic about the events in them along with the characters, as if a year had really passed for me too.
Sword Art Online: Mother’s Rosario by Reki Kawahara
Since I read the interview with Kawahara Reki where he talks about wanting to write a proper yuri series someday, my interest in this series was renewed. I rewatched the anime and genuinely enjoyed the first two seasons, though I still dislike Phantom Bullet arc (mostly because GGO just doesn’t look like much fun to me) so I wanted to read some of the light novel and figured I’d start with my favorite arc.
Even though this volume doesn’t hit me as hard as it did when I read it in English as a teenager, I still really like this volume. I’m one of those people who was annoyed by how little presence Asuna has in Fairy Dance and Phantom Bullet so I always liked that this volume gives her a lot of focus. And I LOVE Yuuki. One of Kawahara’s strengths has always been his ability to make the reader care about a character with only a couple of pages. Despite how little time she has, Yuuki still means a lot to me and I love her relationship with Asuna so much. One issue I did have with this book though was how many pages at the beginning were dedicated to recount the events of previous volumes. I already know all this and I doubt there are many readers who didn’t know all this. The other issue I had with this volume is how the last chapter tries to tie the arc into the main story. It didn’t need to and I think it shifts the focus of the arc away from Asuna and Yuuki’s relationship too much. And, as much as I enjoyed reading it, I think the anime surpassed it. Aoi Yuuki’s performance as Yuuki is breathtaking and the action scenes are so brilliantly animated. I did like having more insight into Asuna’s thoughts though so if you liked this arc in the anime, definitely check out the light novel!
This volume was published in English by Yen-Press as Sword Art Online: Mother’s Rosary so check it out if you’re interested!
Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata 9 by Fumiaki Maruto
I’m not sure what to say other than that this keeps up the quality of the series? It was a good volume.
Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata: Girls Side 2 by Fumiaki Maruto
Well this was a surprisingly satisfying read. Like the first volume, this volume is split into two parts with the first part taking place after volume 8 and the second after volume 9. The first part has three stories in it all focusing on characters and relationships that don’t get much focus in the main series. For example, the first story focuses on a conversation between Michiru and Utaha who I don’t think have had a real interaction since vol. 4. Even though these stories aren’t very plot relevant, I enjoyed them anyway. The second part is much more plot relevant and has some really good character moments for Izumi, Eriri, Megumi and Michiru and also includes a guest appearance by Mayu (from Koisuru Metronome manga)! The stories here were really good and the epilogue really tied them together nicely. I’m not sure whether this volume will be necessary to understand the story of future volumes but I get the feeling that the events that happen in the volume will be necessary to understand the characters and their relationships with each other.
Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata 10 by Fumiaki Maruto
Once again, Maruto takes a typical light novel volume premise and quickly turns it into a dramatic affair. The cover and the colour illustrations are a lie! This isn’t a beach/swimsuit volume but it is an Utaha volume and a good one. It made me remember why I loved Utaha in Koisuru Metronome and why I still do. I’m a bit anxious about vol. 11 given that the cover and the colour illustrations show Megumi being embarrassed which is very out of character for her.
Saenai Heroine no Sodatakata 11 by Fumiaki Maruto
Welp, Maruto finally did it. He finally made Megumi into a boring heroine for me. I can’t get into too much details about what I disliked about this volume without spoilers but I think one thing that was really missing was scenes without Tomoya in them. I get that he’s the protagonist and the narrator but in the first few volumes, there sections that were just dialogue that showed Megumi interacting with people who weren’t Tomoya. I think we haven’t had a scene like that since vol. 7 and GS doesn’t fully replace it. Those scenes made Megumi feel like a full character and they were needed here. The reader needs to be shown that she has a life outside of Tomoya.Without that, she’s boring.
This is the last volume in the series that I own so I won’t be reading the last four volumes (including FD and GS) until Bookwalker has them on sale again.
Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu 1 by Mizuhito Akiyama
A few years ago I read The Picture of Dorian Gray. It was the first time I had read any novel that was written before I was born and I remember being so amazed at how paragraphs could last an entire page. Reading Iriya gave me a similar feeling to that, even if it’s not nearly as old as Dorian Gray. It’s amazing to see how much the light novel medium has changed since the first volume was released in 2001. There were so many descriptions of settings and movements and some of these lasted for more than a page. Due to this, I had a tough time reading this volume. There were a few times where I lost the plot and had to go back and read the scene from the start again. The writing style is smooth and the relationship between the two leads is cute but I can’t say I found the plot very interesting. I don’t quite understand what most people find charming about this series yet but I’m looking forward to possibly finding out in volume 2.
As for the anime, I saw it a long time ago and barely remember it and don’t have easy access to rewatch it. Looking at the episode summaries from Wikipedia, the first episode adapts around 170 pages so I’d imagine it’s pretty rushed.
Torikago Miko to Seiken no Kishi by Izuki Kougyoku
A short ~90~ page story from the author of Mimizuku to Yoru no Ou. It’s a pretty standard fantasy story about a legendary knight and I can’t say I cared for it. I didn’t really buy the relationship between the two leads but I did really like the ending. Even if I didn’t care much for it, I’d still recommend it to people who liked Mimizuku.
Kidou Shitsuji by Takeshi Matsuyama
Well, this was a pleasant surprise! This is by the author of Ame no Hi no Iris and Koori no Kuni no Amaryllis and the English title is Robot Butler but the titular character is not the funniest thing about it. Instead, most of the scenes I found humorous involved the female lead, Liese and her attempts to get Bel to notice her through the use of shoujo manga tropes. Of course, they all backfire on her. She tries to wink flirtatiously at him and he just asks if she has dry eye. She tries to run into him with a piece of toast in her mouth… only, they’re in the middle of a hallway and he catches her effortlessly when she tries to run at him. Liese’s cluelessness when it comes to romance is genuinely charming and of course I loved her relationship with her best friend, Flora, who introduced her to the concept of shoujo manga in the first place and encourages her every step of the way. The other notable character is Flora’s robot butler, Victoria who seems to be the only one who knows how much of an idiot Bel actually is. In addition to how funny it is, the volume has some surprisingly tight world-building and chapter six is truly awesome. There are so many things that get revealed and there’re big epic fights! I liked it a lot. Unfortunately, I didn’t care for the ending. I thought it was a bit of a cop-out though I suppose it did end it cleanly in the way that I am not desperately wanting a second volume. Anyhow, I’d highly recommend it and I’m looking forward to reading more of Maruyama’s works in the future.
Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu 2 by Mizuhito Akiyama
Despite my lukewarm opinion of the first volume, I actually quite enjoyed this volume. Surprisingly, Iriya isn’t in this volume much and the volume instead gives the reader some insight into some of the side characters thoughts, particularly Akiho. My favorite part of the volume was when we got to experience the school’s cultural festival through the eyes of the Asaba parents. It was an interesting choice and one that I quickly got behind. Rather than being just background dressing, Asaba’s parents are actually pretty interesting and fun without being too eccentric and silly. One thing I think this series does really well is that I never feel like the author is treating the characters like adults. A huge issue with a lot of fiction is that they tend to think of teenagers as adults instead of just a pile of people who are still growing and learning how to make decisions. (Saekano has this issue too, btw.) But these characters are still in their first year of middle school and they act like it. I think I’m starting to get the charm of this series now. This volume was very fun to read and I enjoyed it enough that I started volume 3 right away.
Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu 3 by Mizuhito Akiyama
I’m starting to realize that I like this series the most when it’s not being told from Asaba’s POV. I still like his character and a lot of the impactful scenes come from his POV but the most memorable part of this volume was chapter 1 where Akiho and Iriya have an eating competition and become friends. I liked it a lot, especially since Akiho kind of becomes Iriya’s “Mum friend” afterwards and Kiyomi starts affectionately calling Iriya “Kana-bu” which I thought was pretty darn cute. One thing that I really like about the dynamic between Akiho and Iriya is that Akiho is never portrayed as a straight-up bitch trying to get between Asaba and Iriya. Instead, she’s just a girl learning how to deal with her feelings. And Iriya is never portrayed as just a victim of Akiho’s attitude. Iriya is strong in her own way and can be very determined when it comes down to it. But enough about them, this volume had a lot of character development for Asaba. I really liked that he asked Iriya what she wants. Does she want to keep things the way they are? Or does she him to help her? He asks and I really liked that. I also think the way he runs to the bathroom in uncomfortable social situations is hilarious and adorable. In general, despite this volume having pretty heavy plot developments, I just found all the characters to be really cute. Anyway, I’ll be taking a short break before reading the final volume but I am really enjoying this series so far.
Ankoku Kishi wo Nugasanaide 1 by Shinichi Kimura
From the author of Kore wa Zombie desu ka? this story starts when a high school student called Najima’s class gets a new transfer student who just looks like a suit of armour wearing a female uniform. Honestly, I found it boring which is why I’m not putting much effort into the premise summary. It was fine, I guess, but I didn’t laugh at all and I found the characters to be bland. But I bought the first three volumes when they were first released so I kinda have to read them.

ship meme (ahoy)
Tagged by: @sad-goomy, thank you so much for sending this fun meme XD
List 10 of your favorite ships, in no particular order. Don’t cheat by scrolling down to see the questions yet, either!
Lonashipping (MoonxGladion, Pokemon SM)
Specialshipping (RedxYellow, Pokemon Adventures/Special)
Yuri/Estelle (Tales of Vesperia)
Zelos/Sheena (Tales of Symphonia)
Lambda/Sophie (Tales of Graces)
Ferriswheelshipping (NxTouko)
Fakir/Ahiru (Princess Tutu)
Naesala/Leanne (Fire Emblem 9/10)
Franticshipping (RubyxSapphire, Pokemon Adventures/Special)
Oldrivalshipping (GreenxBlue, Pokemon Adventures/Special)
1. Do you remember the episode/scene/chapter that you first started shipping 6?
Actually, I hadn’t played much of the game when one of my best friends was shipping it really hard XD; At that point in my life, I wasn’t really playing Pokemon games, so she spoiled me with a description of the ferris wheel scene and the premise of their working relationship. I thought it was interesting then, but it wasn’t until I was reading them in Pokemon Special that I thought, hey, this ship has so damn much potential (even though the manga seemed to be actively trying to ship White with Black, the tension and relationship development between N and Touko still felt far more natural and well-written to me).
2. Have you ever read a fanfic about 2?
Quite a few, thankfully, and off the top of my head, I remember the one called Magikarp Jump XDDD
3. Has a picture of 4 ever been your screensaver/profile picture/tumblr screensaver?
I think they were a wallpaper on my old computer years ago! ...For the past two or three years, it’s been alternating between Gladion + Pokemon and Tales of Vesperia ^^;
4. If 7 were to suddenly break up today, what would your reaction be?
THEY DIDN’T EVEN GET A HAPPY ENDING. I MEAN. SHE TURNED BACK INTO A DUCK. //SOBS PAINFULLY//
5. Why is 1 so important?
Honestly, I don’t know. When I first played Sun and Moon, I loved Gladion, but I’d not thought of shipping them until one of my best friends mentioned she did. At that time, I was reading the SM arc of Pokespe, and the characterization of Moon there very much supported the very small hints of the Protagonist’s personality in the game (which were honestly so few that she ultimately felt almost like a blank slate, but not completely). I loved this characterization, and the more I got to know this Moon and think about her in context of the original plot, the more I realised that the two of them would make a wonderful ship. And somehow, the moment I began to start shipping them, I began to sink deep into an abyss I didn’t even consider dangerous. Due to life and lack of motivation/inspiration, I hadn’t really been drawing or writing very much for a few years, but when I began to draw and write Lona.... I couldn’t stop. I’ve been throwing out Lona art constantly (at an alarming rate; at least, alarming for me) for over a year now, and I don’t seem to be able to stop. ^^; Lonashipping seems to be the largest reason why I’ve gone back to drawing and painting so much, and spending hours poring over references and painting and dying over environments. It’s been a crazy, but awesome fun year, and I’m really grateful for it. I still have much to learn, but I feel like I’ve really improved compared to how I was art-ing a year or two ago, and I hope to be able to progress steadily from now on, too. Now all I have to do is get my writing to the same level of progression..... *laughs unsteadily*
6. Is 9 a funny ship or a serious ship?
BOTH.
7. Out of all the ships listed, which ship has the most chemistry?
D O N ‘T MAKE ME CHOOSE
8. Out of all your ships listed, which ship has the strongest bond?
They’re all strong ok if they weren’t strong I wouldn’t ship them aosijeoaisjeoia But as far as what actual canon goes.... Fakir and Ahiru are probably the closest to actually having admitted their feelings for each other Even if the ship still isn’t canon in the end BECAUSE SHE TURNED BACK INTO A DUCK.
9. How many times have your read/played/watched 10’s fandom?
Since this is based on the Pokespe incarnation... I’ve read vols 1-9 at least 20 times over by now, I think, while the RSE arc up to about 3 times over? And everything else after that once or so.
10. Which ship has lasted the longest?
Probably Specialshipping, since it’s the oldest one in that list XD
11. How many times, if ever, has 6 broken up?
At least once, when N decided to leave and poor White had to chase after him (evidence in BW2).
12. If the world was suddenly thrust into a zombie apocalypse, which ship would make it out alive, 2 or 8?
Naesala and Leanne, because Leanne would just sing her galdr to bless and heal all the zombies while Naesala kept her safe XDD
13. Did 7 ever have to hide their relationship for any reason?
They never had a proper relationship because SHE TURNED BACK INTO A DUCK------
14. Is 4 still together?
They always will be, in my mind <3
15. Is 10 canon?
Technically.... no.
16. If all 10 ships were put into a couple’s Hunger Games, which couple would win?
Probably Lambda and Sophie, because they’re literally immortal aliens with all the powers that come with that.
17. Has anybody ever tried to sabotage 5’s ship?
The game plot itself. HAHAHAHAHA
18. Which ship would you defend to the death and beyond?
Lona, Yustelle, Zeroshii, and SoDa, I think.
19. Do you spend hours a day going through 3’s tumblr page?
No, because unfortunately, I’m not completely fond of the way most of that ship’s fans characterize them :< But sometimes I go on pixiv and run through their tag ;w;
20. If an evil witch descended from the sky and told you that you had to pick one of the ten ships to break up forever or else she’d break them all forever, which ship would you sink?
I suppose Ahiru/Fakir since they’re pretty much sunk by plot with no real possible comeback unless you use canon divergence or headcanons ;w;
tagging: @artpharos and @yume-x-hanabi and @sylsnon @aerial-ace and whomever else wants to do it I guess?

Hi can you tell me some Latona superhero’s from DC Thanks :)
I assume you mean Latina so all go off that but if I’m wrong I’m sorry. And sorry this took so long!
The Question (Renee Montoya): Originally made to be a cop on Batman: The Animated Series but she migrated to the comics where she eventually became a superhero. She is also one of the most prominent lesbian superheroes in comics which has caused her family to disown her and caused trouble in her job. But she is nothing if not a survivor and BA. Victor Sage, the original Question, picked her to be his successor as he was dying of lung cancer. Renee has also had a romance with Batwoman.
I’d recommend reading
Gotham Central mainly Volume 3 Half a Life ( issues #6–10) where she is outed to the whole police station.
52 (the series not the relaunch) where she becomes the Question
DC Comics: Bombshells (2015-2017) #45 onward. It’s an alternative universe but its a fun one. I mean Renee gets to fight Nazi’s what not to love.
I haven’t read but I’ve heard is good
The Question # 37
Question: The Five Books of Blood
Question: Pipeline
Detective Comics Annual # 11, 12
Batman Annual 27, 28
The Question # 37
Birds of Prey # 11,12
Convergence :The Question # 1, 2
More under the cut
Green Lantern (Jessica Cruz): She is a Mexican American who was traumatized after her friends were murdered. This left Jessica Cruz with anxiety issues which would make her role as a Green Lantern hard. Especially since she was forced to accept the ring, unlike most Green Lanterns who accepted it willingly. Even with such hardships she had grown into her role as protector of earth and has formed a strong connection with her fellow Green Lantern, Simon Baz.
Haven’t read but heard is good
Justice League Vol 6-8. (Forever Evil and JL Vol 5 for more context)
DC Super Hero Girls: Spaced Out this is definitely
Green Lanterns: Rebirth She and Simon Baz team up to.
Aquagirl (Lorena Marquez): She is from San Diego and found herself was submerged with the city after an Earthquake. Instead of dying she found that she could breathe underwater. Lorena then proceeded to help Aquaman locate other survivors and take down the man responsible for this a Scientist named Geist. Eventually, she became the second Aquagirl.
I’d recommend reading
Aquaman #15-20 [2004] This storyline is the first appearance of Lorena (specifically issue #16) and it has been collected in Aquaman (2003-2006): Sub-Diego
52: #35-40 [2007] these issues are mainly about Steel (Henry Irons) but she helps.
Haven’t read but heard is good
Teen Titans #17-19 [2004]
Aquaman #26-28 [2005]
Teen Titans #34 [2006]
World War III: The Valiant [2007]
Teen Titans #69 and Teen Titans Annual 2009 where she officially joins the Teen Titans.
Teen Titans #99-100 [2011]
Fire (Beatriz da Costa): She has two main origins that I know of
#1 Her parents were surveyors of the Amazon River Basin. Due to this, she was born among a tribe of people known as the Ge and it was foretold that she would be given powers from the Sky Spirit. Her family was skeptical of this but when she turned 15 she got superpowers which she used to fight crime. She eventually became the head of the Brazilian branch of Wayne Enterprises.
#2 She started as an amateur model in Brazil before becoming a showgirl, stage performer, and an undercover secret agent for the Brazilian government. An unusual career path to be sure. While working as a secret agent she was caught in a pyroplasmic explosion which gave her fire-based super-human powers
Regardless of the version, she is known for her long stint in the Justice League (mainly the Justice League International) along with her friendships/partnerships with fellow league members Tora (Ice) and Sigrid (Ice Maiden).
I’d recommend reading
Justice League International (1987-1989) #14 onward or Justice League International Vol. 2 and Justice League International Vol. 3 onward
Formerly Known as the Justice League (2003)
Haven’t read but heard is good
Justice League International (2011-2012) Vol. 1: The Signal Masters
Super Friends #25
Hawkgirl (Kendra Saunders/ Kendra Munoz-Saunders): Okay there have been several Hawkgirls who tend to be reincarnations of the first one so it can be a little confusing. Kendra Saunders is the semi-reincarnation of Shiera Hall. Kendra was her Grandniece but when she committed suicide Shiera’s soul walked in but she retained no memory of her previous lives and refused to believe that she was Shiera. Then three years in one line of dialogue in “Hawkman #1” that Kendra’s mom had been a “beautiful Hispanic woman.” While Kendra Munoz-Saunders is from an alternative universe where she a treasure hunter has wings permanently grafted to her back. And she is definitely latina.
Many different kinds of media have embraced Kendra as Latina even though it was a rocky start. Such as DC Superhero Girls and the CW superhero shows.
I’d recommend reading
JSA Secret Files and Origins #1
DC Comics: Bombshells (2015-2017) #58 onward. In this version, she was raised in a Mexican orphanage.
She makes several appearances in Birds of Prey my favorite is #104. It’s barely any screen time I just find it funny that after dealing with the Secret Six, Oracle gives her with a car a for her troubles.
Haven’t read but heard is good
Earth 2 #2 onward
Empress (Anita Fite): She is the daughter of Donald Fite, of the All Purpose Enforcement Squad (APES.), and his wife Oshi. Oshi was the daughter of a powerful Voodou priestess. Anita’s grandmother preformed a ritual where she asked the Oya, goddess of the wind, fire, and thunderbolts, to “sponsor” Anita and serve as her “Gros Bon Ange” (Big Guardian Angel). Anita Fite grew up displaying considerable athletic abilities and learning Vodou from her mother and grandmother. Her mother was killed when she was young by the villain Agua Sin Gaaz. Anita would join the Young Justice team. However, she was written out when her father was killed and her parents reincarnated as babies that she would end up raising. Which isn’t weird at all…
I’d recommend reading
Young Justice #16 onward even if she ends up raising her own parents
Haven’t read but heard is good
She apparently made several minor appearances in the Wonder Girl miniseries in 2007-2008
Wildcat II (Yolanda Montez): Yolanda Montez was born with meta-human powers due to the genetic manipulation and had retractable claws. Yolanda became the god-daughter of Ted Gran (Wildcat I), a close boxing friend of her father, “Mauler” Montez. She died but has made a come back on Earth 2.
Haven’t read but heard is good
Infinity Inc. #12 onward
she makes appearances in Earth 2
Black Orchid (Alba Garcia): A former army private whose arms had been amputated during her time in a magical alternate dimension which gave her powers as Black Orchid. Currently, she is a member of both A.R.G.U.S. and Justice League Dark.
Haven’t read but heard is good
Justice League Dark (2011-2015) Vol. 2: The Books of Magic
Catwoman (Selina Kyle): Pretty I don’t have to give a backstory on this one. She is half Cuban (as confirmed by Catwoman #81), however, that regularly ignored. But I’m bitter and you can pry her being Cuban from my cold dead hands
I’d recommend reading
Catwoman (1993-2001) #81
Catwoman (2002-2008) Vol. 1: Trail of the Catwoman onward. There is no mention of her being Latina but it is a good series (would have been better if she was confirmed, Latina)
Wonder Woman (Maria Mendoza): The daughter of a local judge in Peru, she was an activist protesting against the brutal excavation of an ancient holy site. The man in charge, Armando Guitez, wanted the power of the runes within the site to gain enough strength to rule the world. When he kills Maria’s father is she sneaks onto the site to get revenge but stumbles upon two runes. The second rune, one of light spirits, is accidentally shattered and she is whisked away by the Sun God of the Incan people. She was gifted with magical powers which she uses to defeat Guitez.
She came from a story written by Stan Lee and it’s not that good to be honest (you can watch Linkara’s review here: X) but I’m a sucker for her design and the idea of a Hispanic magical girl Wonder Woman.
I’d recommend reading
Just Imagine: Wonder Woman
Ya'Wara: When she was a child her plane crashed in the Amazon Rainforest but she was saved by the Forest Mother who would then give her special powers so she could protect the forest. She became a member of the Tapirape tribe. She would later go on to join The Others, who wanted to gather the Seven Artefacts of Atlantis to keep them from falling into evil hands. They would split up the relics with Ya'Wara who took the Globe of Transportation.
I’d recommend reading
Aquaman #7 - The Others, Chapter One onward
Aquaman and The Others
These are the one that comes to my mind and there are probably great (or better) ones that didn’t make it to the list. And a few of these characters I’m not super familiar with so there may be mistakes. Also, some of these are or have poor representation (‘big surprise’). Even so, I hope these helped you.

Amazons Attack! - part 5
Previously! Circe and Fake Sarge Steel orchestrated an Amazon invasion of DC. Diana, newly escaped from her imprisonment, has just come face-to-face with her resurrected mother for the first time. Except she hasn’t, because continuity means nothing any more.
I dunno, guys. I'm not even at the halfway point and I’m so tired.
Part 4: Wonder Woman vol. 3 #9 — Jodi Picoult (writer) and Terry Dodson (artist)
Two issues ago, we ended on a cliffhanger, with Diana coming face-to-face with Hippolyta in the ruins of the Lincoln Memorial.
Last issue, we rewound a few hours to see the way the invasion of DC unfolded from a range of other perspectives, before arriving back at that same moment in time — Diana, Hippolyta, and the smouldering wreckage of an iconic national monument.
It would stand to reason, then, that this issue would give us some payoff on that cliffhanger. That we’d get to, you know… find out what happens next. How Diana’s first, emotionally-charged encounter with her resurrected-mother-turned-mass-murderer goes.
But ‘Amazons Attack!’ cares nothing for reason.
So instead, we open on this.
Later, at the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC.
The first time I read this page, I genuinely thought I’d opened the wrong issue. I spent a couple of minutes flicking back and forth between comics, trying to find the missing chapter in between Wonder Woman #8/Amazons Attack! #1 (which are concurrent) and Wonder Woman #9. There isn’t one. Not only does Picoult skip right over Wondy and Hippolyta’s reunion on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, as we will see in a few pages, she acts as though it never happened.
I'm starting to suspect that the editors on Wonder Woman were afraid to so much as touch Jodi Picoult’s scripts because they were intimidated by her bestselling author status or something. I’m imagining the behind-the-scenes conversations going something like
‘So... Diana and Hippolyta are meeting for the first time in this issue, right?’
‘Yeah, looks like.’
‘But didn’t they already meet for the first time last issue? In a cliffhanger? Is that not going to be... addressed?’
‘...well, uh. Huh.’
‘You know what, don’t worry about it. She’s a New York Times bestseller, I’m sure she knows what she’s doing.’
So, okay. For some inexplicable reason, Hippolyta is now hanging out in the National Air and Space Museum, surrounded by antiquated fighter planes that are still centuries ahead of the Amazon army’s chariots and catapults. She prays to Athena to grant her wisdom for the battle ahead.
Athena tells her that waging war on humanity is a super unwise idea. Cut to Hippolyta striding out to her waiting army, all, ‘OKAY NEW PLAN: WE DON’T NEED THE GODS TO FUCK THIS CITY UP.’
Random Amazon: My queen — will the gods aid us? Hippolyta: We don’t need their help.
Then she commands her army to destroy the Washington Monument, which… hoooooo boy.
This is the Washington Monument at the end at the end of WW #8, when Diana confronts Hippolyta. It’s still intact, as you can see, so no problems there.
Except… this is the Washington Monument at the end of AA #1, when Diana confronts Hippolyta. This panel depicts the same moment in time as the panel from WW #8 — but in this version, the monument is in ruins.
And now, “later”, in WW #9, a conspicuously undamaged Washington Monument gets toppled by Amazon catapults.
Essentially, through some combination of poor coordination and abject incompetence, Jodi Picoult and Will Pfeiffer managed to accidentally have the Amazons destroy the same iconic monument twice.
While Superman prevents buildings from being crushed by the falling obelisk and Tom saves a civilian from being flattened by rubble, Wonder Woman… saves a cat?
At least the art is cute.
Also take note of Tom’s line: “Great— Hero Tutorial 101 from the face that launched a thousand pissed-off Amazons.”
Tom does not know that the Amazon invasion was prompted by Diana’s incarceration. Nobody knows that the Amazon invasion was prompted by Diana’s incarceration. At this point in the story, the only people who have that information are Circe and the Amazons themselves.
(That said, even if he did know the reason for the Amazon invasion, blaming Diana for it — and citing it as evidence that she’s a shitty hero — would be a dick move. She didn’t ask to be kidnapped and tortured by a villain masquerading as a government agent, for fuck’s sake.)
With Tom in tow, Wondy flies over to a waiting Superman, Batman and Canary for a quick exposition dump. Superman and Batman get Diana up to speed on the Amazon invasion; Diana gets them up to speed on how she was wrongly imprisoned. Somewhere in the intervening issues, she’s forgotten that Fake Steel explicitly told her that she would be imprisoned and tortured until she handed over the Purple Death Ray technology, and she instead frames it to her friends as ‘well, he said he was arresting me for Max Lord, but I dunnooooo, he was asking a looooot of questions about the PDR, guys, I’m starting to think that something might be up.’
Make a note of that PDR reference, by the way. That will become relevant shortly.
Diana is certain that Hippolyta is an impostor or something, mostly because Hippolyta’s being written so wildly out of character.
Black Canary ignores the entire conversation and instead chews out Tom for almost landing on her when he flew over with Diana. This isn’t technically his fault, because he wasn’t the one driving, but it doesn’t matter because the whole argument is just a pretext for Tom to be a sleaze to Dinah.
Dinah: Why don’t you watch where you land? Tom: Well, you’re probably softer than Superman, sweetheart. Dinah: Call me sweetheart again and I’ll kick your butt so hard you’ll be gagging on my boot until Christmas. Tom: Will you quit focussing on my butt? I know it’s sexy, but we’ve only just met.
At least somebody in this comic recognises Tom Tresser for the gross, sexist creep that he is.
Noticing what Tom is up to, Diana hastily drags him away while announcing that that she’s going to confront her “so-called mother”.
Diana: “Sweetheart”? We’re at war, and you’re flirting with Black Canary… Tom: Sometimes it’s easy to believe you were raised on a remote island populated only by women.
Ho ho! It’s funny because men are slaves to their sexual urges who literally cannot stop themselves from making unwelcome advances towards women!
They arrive at the Air and Space Museum and are met by a pair of Amazon guards.
Amazon: [Hippolyta] has been expecting you. The man must be left behind. Tom: I’ll wait right here… sweetheart.
Fifty bucks he says something to get himself stabbed in the face before Diana has even made it through the door.
Picoult continues to completely ignore last issue’s cliffhanger confrontation, treating this scene as Diana and her mother’s first face-to-face meeting since Hippolyta’s resurrection.
So, blah blah embrace. Blah blah conflicted internal monologue. Blah blah ‘join me and help kill all the men’.
Hippolyta: Those “innocent people” want our weapons technology! All they crave is power! Diana: Who told you that? Diana [narration]: Sarge Steel was alone when he questioned me about the Purple Death Ray…
‘HUMANS WANT TO STEAL OUR ADVANCED WEAPONRY’, Hippolyta shrieks, while swinging around a sword.
And a second mention of the PDR. Followed immediately by…
Hippolyta: Circe did not just rescue me from Hades. She brought us a secret weapon, with which we will win this war. […] A poison, which affects those of human blood, but not those who are Amazon. With it, we will be safe.
There is. just. so much stupid in this page, I don’t even know where to begin.
‘Humans want to steal our advanced weapons technology, including a LITERAL DEATH RAY, so we have come to fight them with spears and catapults! That’ll sure show ‘em!’
‘The surest way to protect ourselves from the humans who want to steal our LITERAL DEATH RAY is to poison… anybody who happens to be out of doors within a ten-block radius… using these killer bees that our enemy gave us.’
They didn’t think to deploy the killer bees (or, you know, just maybe the LITERAL DEATH RAY) before launching the full-scale ground invasion?
Or just extract Diana and then deploy the… you know what, I can’t even say it again, it’s too embarrassing.
‘The only way our unreachable, extradimensional island will be safe is if we kill all these humans who have no way of reaching us!’ At this point in canon, even Diana can’t reach Themyscira.
Look, if you’re going to have an army attack DC with pointy sticks and swords, maybe just… don’t keep mentioning all the futuristic weaponry they are conspicuously choosing not to use?
This culminates in a hamfisted stand-off in which Diana is challenged to choose between humanity and her own people. Blah blah ‘you’re a disappointment’, blah blah ‘don’t you love me?’, blah blah ‘should we be allowed to defend ourselves from these humans (who are defending themselves from us)’.
Hippolyta: You could have been the greatest queen the Amazons ever had.
Uh. Sure. Maybe. I guess. If you hadn’t personally abolished the monarchy in favour of democratic governance.
Outside, there’s a confrontation with DOMA agents, led by Fake Sarge Steel. Tom — who’s somehow figured out that Fake Steel is, well, fake — decides that two can play at that game and, in a moment of confusion, uses his still-never-actually-explained disguise tech to impersonate Steel himself. When the dust clears, there are now two Steels, each insisting the other is a fraud. Both are taken into custody until the situation can be straightened out.
Naturally, Tom can’t pass up one last chance to creep on Diana before he’s escorted away.
Diana: [whispering] Tom? Is it you? Tom: [whispering] Birthmaaaaaark! [winks]
Circe shows up, and there’s another tiresome scene where Diana demands to know what Circe did to Hippolyta, and Circe gloats that maybe Diana just doesn’t know Hippolyta as well as she thinks she does, and they fight.
In a minor continuity fluff, Diana throws her tiara at Circe in one panel, and in the next panel Diana is still wearing the tiara.
Circe speechifies about how everybody is really an impostor and nothing is real “except love and murder”. Boo. BOOOOOO.
Meanwhile, the two impostor Steels are being interrogated, side by side. Seems like it’d be far more sensible to interrogate them separately, and maybe bother to handcuff them to prevent what Tom’s about to do next, but the DOMA agents are clearly struggling here. For a government agency that polices metahumans — including people with various powers of deception, illusion, shapeshifting and mind control — and employs at least one person whose specialty is impersonation, they’re curiously ill equipped to deal with infiltrators.
Rule of cool, though — and Tom’s next move is, I’ll admit, pretty cool. He points out that the real Steel lost his hand years ago, as everybody knows from the mechanical prosthesis he uses. Then, before anyone can react, he grabs a pen and slams it down through Fake Steel’s supposedly prosthetic hand, eliciting blood and a scream of pain.
Everyman is unmasked as the Fake Steel and — because nobody expects there to be two impostors, and because, again, DOMA is incompetent — Tom is presumed to be the real deal.
Tom, still as Steel, interrogates Everyman, who says that shit’s about to go down and then disappears right out of his cell. Oh, sure, they have a cell that Wonder Woman can’t break out of, but they can’t contain a friggin nobody like Everyman.
Steel!Tom races to the control room to discover that DOMA is preparing to launch a nuclear warhead at Themyscira.
Back to Diana and Circe, who are still stuck on the same repetitive ‘that can’t be my mother!’/‘lol, u sure about that?’ argument.
Of course, Picoult is never one to pass up a chance to make a crack at how much Wonder Woman sucks:
Circe: I’m thinking that when this whole thing is over, we can go into crime fighting together. Travel the globe, saving women from oppression… what a team we’d be! I can be the funny, sassy, sexy one… and you can be the dorky square one who says dorky square things like “Great Hera!” Diana: [mutters] I rarely say that anymore…
Tom arrives on the scene to warn Diana of the plan to nuke Themyscira, and Circe gloatingly reveals how she’s going to achieve this. Themyscira is in another dimension, but Circe can open the portal — which she will, the moment the warhead is launched, enabling it to destroy the island. The Amazons will be left homeless and at the mercy of the humans.
Then a spear plunges through her chest from behind, because guess who was standing right behind her and is pretty pissed off about being betrayed?
Before teleporting away, Circe tells Diana to usurp Hippolyta’s throne and call off the war. “Usurp her throne?” Diana gasps. “To do that, I would have to kill my mother!”
That is not the only way to usurp a throne. As Amazons Attack! #2 will make explicit, not all Amazons support Hippolyta’s war, and already her top generals are questioning her judgement. By AA #3, Artemis and Philippus outright say that Hippolyta is not fit to lead. Theoretically, if Diana had the support of the Amazons, she could overthrow Hippolyta without resorting to murder.
THERE IS NO THRONE THEMYSCIRA IS A DEMOCRACY YOU IGNORANT FUCKSTICKS
The issue ends on Diana and Tom facing down a hail of spears.

Top 10 WORST Movies of 2017
This year’s been interesting to me in terms of bad films. I seem to have avoided the main bad ones, with the likes of ‘Transformers: The Last Knight’, ‘Fifty Shades Darker’, ‘Geostorm’, ‘The Emoji Movie’ and a few others, so even though I’ve heard they were terrible, I cannot put them on this list for I have not seen them. However still the following list are the films that I found to be most displeasing to me nonetheless, and I apologise to anyone who likes any of the following movies, for I am just sharing my personal opinion on them. And I feel like I definitely will make some people unhappy with some of my choices here, as some films on this list are actually fairly liked (especially the top 2 worst films on this list will cause some discomfort for some), but for me they just didn’t work.
DISHONOURABLE MENTIONS: Goodbye Christopher Robin, Ghost in the Shell, Fast & Furious 8.
10) ALIEN: COVENANT - Alright, so ‘Alien: Covenant’ is not a terrible film, it’s just the definition of mediocre and Hollywood running out of ideas. Ridley Scott takes aspects from the first two ‘Alien’ films as well as ‘Prometheus’ and rehashes them without adding anything majorly new, which ends in a lazy sloppy film that, even though visually looks good, feels completely lack-luster and pointless. What makes me more sad is that I know that Ridley Scott has the talent to do better. In fact, his last film ‘All the Money in the World’ is a very well made thriller based on a true story where Scott really shines as the director, which make it even more disappointing how he cannot bring the franchise that he originally created back on its feet. And for anyone who wants to see ‘Alien: Covenant’ for James Franco, don’t. Just don’t (unless you are planning to switch the film off 5 minutes in, in that case do go watch it for Franco!). Full review: http://agentnico.tumblr.com/post/160697767214/alien-covenant-2017-review
9) THE CHIPS MOVIE - I didn’t actually finish this film, and that is because I got bored. The jokes weren’t funny, and this is supposed to be a comedy, so that pretty much sums up why this film is bad. Honestly, I don’t even know what I was expecting. Full review: N/A (I did not review this film on the blog)
8) THE GREAT WALL - The Great Wall of China was built to defend against weird CGI’d monsters. Well okay, it’s a fantasy, I can accept that. But boy, even for a fantasy this film does not make any sense. And, at the end of the day, this film is just too damn stupid. I mean, I appreciate that this is a big budget motion picture about China, but at the same time a bad film is a bad film. Full review: http://agentnico.tumblr.com/post/159233230134/the-great-wall-2017-review
7) THE MUMMY - I kind of feel sorry for Universal. They are really trying to make this Dark Universe cinematic universe thing happen, and it’s just not working out for them. They began with ‘Dracula Untold’ and that failed, so they rebooted again with ‘The Mummy’ which failed also, and now it seems like they will be starting from scratch again. At this point I think they should simply drop it. ‘The Mummy’ was a big-budget mess, and there’s not much more to it. If you want a good Tom Cruise 2017 film to watch, look no further than the very enjoyable ‘American Made’. ‘The Mummy’ on the other hand should be forever forgotten. Full review: http://agentnico.tumblr.com/post/161654366954/the-mummy-2017-review
6) PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: SALAZAR’S REVENGE - Disney, stop making ‘Pirates’ films. Just stop. They are getting worse and worse. This one is no exception. Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow is officially a caricature of each Jack Sparrow from the previous films. Now, I hope you realise that ain’t a good thing! Also, for the budget that this film had, the visual effects are honestly speaking simply embarrassing. What did you spend all that money on, Disney? Oh yeah, that’s right, funding Johnny Depp’s island! Full review: http://agentnico.tumblr.com/post/161123151399/pirates-of-the-caribbean-salazars-revenge-2017
5) THE BELKO EXPERIMENT - Interesting concept, bad execution (pun intended). What could have been a great social study turns out to be more of a guilty pleasure flick, only without the pleasure part. The movie never really knows what it wants to be, and the very forced sequel set-up is nothing but annoying. Full review: http://agentnico.tumblr.com/post/159644906714/the-belko-experiment-2017-review
4) BAYWATCH - I mean, look, there will be many out there who will have a lot of fun with ‘Baywatch’. Unlike ‘The Belko Experiment’, this can work as a guilty pleasure flick, however it’s not for me. The level of comedy was too dumb for my liking, and with the very funny trailers the final product was even more disappointing. Full review: http://agentnico.tumblr.com/post/161235915729/baywatch-2017-review
3) RESIDENT EVIL: THE FINAL CHAPTER - At the end of the day I don’t know what I was expecting. A surprisingly good film in a franchise that so far has been terrible? I should get my head out of my ass. Also, it was a January release. And its sort of a rule now that somewhere in my worst films of the year list there is a January movie, since minus the late Oscar-releases, January is kind of a dump month for studios. January of 2017 we had the likes of ‘Underworld: Blood Wars’, ‘xXx: The Return of Xander Cage’ and ‘The Bye Bye Man’ were amongst those dumped movies, yet I tend to give January films some slack, but one always makes the list, and this year it was ‘Resident Evil: The Final Chapter’. Full review: http://agentnico.tumblr.com/post/156930554774/resident-evil-the-final-chapter-2017-review
2) GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 - This was is going to cause probably the most disagreement, since I am aware that a lot of people enjoyed this film. In fact a lot of good friends of mine liked it, which is fair enough, but for me it did not work. Easily the biggest disappointment for me this year. I love the first ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ film, however this was a big step down. To be honest, this movie isn’t the worst thing ever, the reason why it’s 2nd worst on my list is simply because it was indeed the most disappointing 2017 movie for me. I was really excited for it, and it was everything I did not want it to be and more. Instead of a proper story, the film felt more like ‘a day in a life of’ kinda deal, which took any proper stakes away. All the characters became more caricatured, and the soundtrack was nowhere as good as from the first film. The ending was done nicely but the rest of the movie is all over the place. This is possibly an example where a director for a studio film had too much creative freedom. I think there needs to be a sort of right balance between creative freedom and studio interference, it’s only a matter of finding that balance. Full review: http://agentnico.tumblr.com/post/160115869259/guardians-of-the-galaxy-vol-2-2017-review
1) JUSTICE LEAGUE - Out of all the movies on this list, there is only one that I truly hated. An here we are. The DC Cinematic Universe is a trainwreck by this point (minus ‘Wonder Woman’ respectively), and ‘Justice League’ is worst of the lot. With no knowledge of what pacing is apparently, this film rushes through all of its scenes and jumps to so many locations within minutes trying to throw so much at us without actually giving any substance or character work, that I was baffled at how Warner Bros. actually let this movie be released. And don’t get me started on the villain; he looks like a PS2 character! He’s fully CGI’d, and looks terrible for it, and he has the most generic plot line possible. For all my issues with this film, check out my full review where I go more in-depth, but this was easily the worst cinema experience I had this year. I was bored during 70-80% of it. There are a few redeeming qualities, but they are overshadowed by the list of negatives. And Henry Cavill’s upper lip is something to behold! Full review: http://agentnico.tumblr.com/post/167589149664/justice-league-2017-review
And with that I can now forget all these movies (finally!). I still have my Best Movies of 2017 list coming up, and its a good one, as 2017 was a very strong year in film, that’s for sure. So keep a look out for that list and then my reviews for 2018 films (here’s hoping for a good year!) and thank you for reading my blog!

Bookshelf Briefs 9/5/17
Super mega briefs!
Aho-Girl, Vol. 2 | By Hiroyuki | Kodansha Comics -This is a 4-koma gag comic, so does not really rely on character or plot development. You just need funny gags. In this case, the gags rely on the main cast being absolute idiots. And to the manga’s credit, they are. If the cast were even a tiny bit less dumb, the whole series would merely be tedious. But everyone, especially the title girl, quadruples down on the stupidest possible outcome to any situation, and it just works. We do see a new girl here, who seems to like cute girls but may simply be as eccentric as everyone else. As for Sayaka, even given the fact that every gag comic needs a straight man, you still feel bad she’s in this series. Maybe she can go hang out with Nanase from Book Girl. – Sean Gaffney
Anne Happy, Vol. 6 | By Cotoji | Yen Press – Once again, there are hints that while the rest of the class has some random bad luck, Hanako’s bad luck—as well as her terminal case of Pollyanna optimism—may have a more sinister origin. I also get the sense, given the various hints we’re given in this volume, that their teacher is a former student of the unlucky class. In any case, we get the usual vague mixture of amusing and heartwarming, as Hibari thinks too much, Botan tries a bit too hard, and Hibiki is an absolute mess. I admit that I’m grateful for the hints of an ongoing plot regarding Hanako, mostly as otherwise this series doesn’t quite get along entirely on pure charm. You want it to be going somewhere, and for now I will trust that it is. – Sean Gaffney
A Centaur’s Life, Vol. 12 | By Kei Murayama | Seven Seas – Once again, I get the feeling that A Centaur’s Life is just a thin excuse for the author to do whatever he feels like doing every chapter. We get more action-packed dramatic flashbacks with death and maiming, framed as the cast visiting a natural history museum to look at their ancestors. We get romantic comedy hijinks, with crushes on guys and the like. We get more chapters that examine how typical Japanese events would work in the Centaur’s Life world, such as idol groups and faked ghost stories (or is it fake?). The best chapter in the book involves the cast having a mostly serious discussion on the concept of heaven, and why if you try to dig too deep to analyze heaven it just gets disturbing. As variable as ever. – Sean Gaffney
Chihayafuru, Vol. 4 | By Yuki Suetsugu | Kodansha Comics (digital only) – I love how Suetsugu-sensei uses Chihaya’s continued passion for karuta to get Arata to admit that he still loves the game. When they were kids, he was the one who introduced her to the game, and now she’s the one who brings him back to it, first by sending him updates on Mizusawa High’s progress through the Tokyo qualifiers, which has him refreshing his inbox every ten seconds for the results, and then by moving on to nationals at a venue that brings up memories of his grandfather. We learn more about what happened with his grandpa’s health, and it’s awful and sad, but learning that others look forward to seeing his grandpa’s style through him begins to clear up his guilt somewhat. Perhaps he can honor his grandpa best by continuing to play? I love this series so much. – Michelle Smith
Drifters, Vol. 4 | By Kohta Hirano | Dark Horse Comics – It has been three-and-a-half years since the last volume of Drifters came out in North America. That said, with a series like this I’m not sure it matters much. Sure, I’d forgotten literally everything going on in the previous books, and we don’t even get a ‘what has gone before’ page at the front. But I mean, this is Kohta Hirano. Is there lots of fighting? Oh yes. Some bloody killings? Definitely. Insane grins? By the bucketful. The whole manga is just an excuse for all of those things, and therefore it seems churlish to criticize the fact that the plot doesn’t really go anywhere, or that female characters are either absent or objectified. Recommended if you loved Hellsing, otherwise easily skippable. – Sean Gaffney
Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma, Vol. 19 | By Yuto Tsukuda and Shun Saeki | Viz Media – This volume is interesting, but it does give off a bit of a sense of filler, as we slowly advance through Azami’s plan to remake the school in his twisted image. Much to my surprise, Ryo’s battle does not go the way I assumed it would, and this leads to a number of satisfying scenes. There’s also the confirmation, which I think most readers have guessed by now, that Alice was in fact trying to contact Erina all along, and her letters were blocked all these years. The most dangerous battle may be the new one Soma has with #1 seat Tsukasa. They turn out to work very well together, almost like a well-oiled machine… which leads to Tsukasa offering to let Soma join Central. Some, of course, refuses… but will he regret it? Always good. – Sean Gaffney
Giant Killing, Vol. 5 | By Masaya Tsunamoto and Tsujitomo | Kodansha Comics (digital only) – East Tokyo United has lost the first several games of the season, and fans and management are starting to voice their displeasure. Now ETU is facing Nagoya, a team with three talented Brazilian players. But Tatsumi has spotted Nagoya’s one weakness and worked out a plan to exploit it. Seeing the team working together and their defense holding strong is a lot of fun, but their faces when they finally manage to score are the best bit. Tsubaki has talent, but he’s been inconsistent so far. Now, he seems to be playing without hesitation, and when he scores first ETU’s first goal, his expression conveys both his relief and a sense of atonement for past mistakes. There just seems to be more on the line than is usual in sports manga, and I was thoroughly caught up in the action until it was abruptly over. Highly recommended! – Michelle Smith
Kimi ni Todoke: From Me to You, Vol. 27 | By Karuho Shiina | VIZ Media – Inspired by Sawako’s ability to honestly discuss her thoughts and feelings, Kazehaya tries a similar approach with his gruff father concerning his university plans. The situation remains unresolved until Kazehaya’s mother tells him about a special drawer wherein he discovers that his father has saved everything Kazehaya ever gave him. “You do make your dad happy. You really do. He just doesn’t show it.” Sniff! I didn’t know I needed to see them achieve an understanding, but apparently I did. After Sawako makes her decision about where she’s going to school, the focus shifts back to Ayane and her heartache over Pin, who she is convinced will never look at her romantically. It’s great to see her feeling love, after she doubted that she could, whatever the outcome. This is still such a great series! – Michelle Smith
Kiss and White Lily for My Dearest Girl, Vol. 3 | By Canno | Yen Press – Shiramine and Kurosawa have entered their second year and evidently still aren’t a couple, despite the occasional smooch that transpires between them. Shiramine is still not particularly likable, but she’s a bit more tolerable this time around, and has managed to defeat Kurosawa by one point on an English exam. There’s some question about whether she herself is special, or whether Kurosawa would take anyone who could make her feel like a regular girl, but this question is answered when Kurosawa is roped into the gardening club due simply to sheer proximity and not for her talents. She ends up staying, and dragging Shiramine into it, but mostly the second half of the volume deals with the other two members of the club. Although it’s still not as good as some schoolgirl yuri I’ve read recently (Bloom Into You), I think this series might be improving. – Michelle Smith
Kuroko’s Basketball, Vols. 13-14 | By Tadatoshi Fujimaki | Viz Media – Seirin vs. To-Oh is the main thrust of this volume, and it’s just as exciting as you might imagine, even if it’s tough to find words to describe it. As with most sports manga, you tend to define it as “good sports happens in these pages,” so even in an omnibus I struggle to say much more than “wow, he really got stronger!” or “did you see that shot?”. There is a hot springs section at the start of the book, which gives the teams a chance to casually taunt each other before the game, and also some primo fanservice, exactly the sort that young boys will want to see. There’s also some flashbacks to Kuroko’s middle-school days, mostly to give more depth to Aomine. Basketball happens. But it’s really good basketball. -Sean Gaffney
Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic, Vol. 25 | By Shinobu Ohtaka | Viz Media – Well, we do get some Morgiana, my wish from the previous brief, but not a lot. Instead, Harukyuu is the focus of this 25th volume, which is both good and bad. Bad in that he turns to darkness, letting his anger rule him, mind-controlling soldiers and deciding murder is the best solution. Good in that the way this is handled turns out to be some of the best writing in the series, and a highlight of the volume. And honestly, if you’re going to try to murder someone, it’s hard to go wrong with his mother Gyokuen, who is smug in the best possible way, and even gets a few Higurashi faces here. (That’s her on the cover.) As for Alibaba, well, he’s headed over there, and I expect he and Harukyuu are going to clash horribly next book. – Sean Gaffney
My Love Story!!, Vol. 13 | By Kazune Kawahara and Aruko | VIZ Media – There are many shoujo romances that end with a reunion after a long separation, but My Love Story!! tackles this a little differently, showing us how tough the time apart was for Yamato and how hard she and Takeo are working to be able to get into the same college. Their romance stuff was nice, but honestly, the hero of the volume is Sunakawa, who keeps Takeo on track with studying, personally taking charge of his tutoring, and making good on a promise to smack Takeo if he ever does something really stupid. I loved that the creators took the time here at the end to emphasize what a special friend he is. I’ll miss this series, but Kawahara-sensei did say “it might be nice to write more of this story someday” in her final author’s note, so make of that what you will! – Michelle Smith
Pandora in the Crimson Shell: Ghost Urn, Vol. 8 | By Shirow Masamune and Rikudou Koushi | Seven Seas – Not as many amusing cameos this time around, and wrapping up one plot and starting another means there’s a lot of awkward transition in the middle. Also, we get more than one “activation” sequence, because kids these days can’t get enough of faux vaginal fingering. Still, I would hope kids these days would not be allowed anywhere near Pandora. The main cast does get to show off, and Nene in particular shows that she’s really something special even among this cast that seems to have a lot of special people and/or machines. Oh yes, and we also get a glimpse of the big bads, who combine Nazi imagery AND Illuminati imagery. If you like saying “wtf?” a lot, Pandora is for you. – Sean Gaffney
Vampire Knight: Memories, Vol. 1 | By Matsuri Hino | Viz Media – I will grant you that Vampire Knight left some open endings, and it’s nice to see those gone into. Still, when you see an author’s next series after their huge hit cancelled after two volumes, and then they return with a spinoff of that old series, it’s hard not to cringe. The best part of this book, even if it’s really bittersweet, is between Aido and Wakaba. It’s clear they both have deep feelings for each other, but it’s also clear that Wakaba does not want to be a vampire, and therefore this romance just isn’t going to happen. It’s an interesting look at the issues semi-immortality brings. The chapters with Yuki interested me less, mostly as they deal with her post-vampiric personality. VK fans will like this, most others will find it superfluous. – Sean Gaffney

State of the Wall: 6-2-17
You know the drill! A bunch of stuff coming up, some questions for you guys, and a few general announcements!
Schedule of Upcoming Episodes 6/5 – Babylon 5 #1 6/12 – The Star Wars #5 6/19 – PATREON: All-New Ghost Rider, volume 2 6/26 – Miller Time: Robocop vs. the Terminator #2 7/3 – Superman vs. the Terminator #2 7/10 – Tandy Computer Whiz Kids: News By Computer Foils Kidnappers 7/17 – Ultimate Power #4 7/24 – PATREON: Delicious in Dungeon, vol. 1 7/31 – Batman: Odyssey #1
As always, the schedule is subject to change for any reason I see fit, particularly if it is not funny, though the Patreon-sponsored episodes are a pretty safe bet (although Delicious in Dungeon may only be a chapter or two depending on length).
Storyline 90% of the remainder of the storyline is written, it just comes down to filming it. I’m trying my damndest to get this all together and barring real-life emergencies or unavailability of actors, I should be able to start pumping out more storyline stuff over the next several episodes, hopefully concluding ASAP. There are about 10-11 more storyline segments if I counted correctly (some of which will be both beginning and end of episodes) and getting them done is my highest priority aside from just making videos.
Player Changeover Progress As you may have noticed, there are currently A LOT of videos still down. The problem is really just that I have to collect the embed codes for those videos… and there are over 1,000. The good news is that most everything has youtube links, so there IS still a place to view them. The first 300 or so Atop the Fourth Wall episodes have been updated and while progress is slow, it IS happening. However, there’s a new snag there.
I replaced the History of Power Rangers embeds… and they are now not viewable. About twenty of the videos have been taken down from Vid.me by DMCA takedown notices. These are a real thing and different from a youtube copyright strike. The good news is that, from all accounts, Vid.me is MUCH better about talking to content producers about resolving these things, so I will work on getting them back… but I promise nothing – they may be unwilling to restore the videos that were taken down and frankly I’m not exactly enthusiastic about utilizing MULTIPLE video hosts on the site JUST to accommodate History of Power Rangers… and any other platform that hosts them may just have the same issue. I haven’t had a chance to try contacting them yet – just been too busy with other projects, mainly finishing the DVD and Event Comics Month, but I will be doing so and I’ll try to update you all when new information becomes available.
I might need to simply go with the youtube versions for the videos simply because the old videos don’t hold up to scrutiny for players. I’d LIKE to keep the old versions up for posterity’s sake, but the simple fact is that if they’re just going to keep getting taken down off of other platforms, there’s no point it continuing to try to save them, especially when the youtube versions have (for the most part) worked fine.
Longbox of the Damned I regret to announce that there will be no Midsummer’s Nightmare this year for Longbox of the Damned. I considered all my options, but simply put the kind of work I WANT to do with it would occupy a great deal of my time and distract me from getting other work completed, most especially the storyline. October will indeed still have regular Longbox videos, but this year we have to cancel the additional summer theme ones. My apologies to anyone who was looking forward to it – I hope to be in a better place to do it again next year. I’m also planning on having another bumper contest for this year’s Longboxes, so feel free to start thinking up ideas for that early!
History of Power Rangers It’s probably going to be a while before I get to the In Space youtube videos, mostly because of other the other projects. And of course you won’t be seeing a Ninja Steel video until that’s all done and released on video. That being said, Dino Charge’s views are… pretty low right now, which I ascribe to the fact that it, much like the Samurai and Megaforce videos, are Unlisted on youtube. A lot of my audience has shifted to mostly youtube-based stuff and because the videos are unlisted, they don’t get viewed as often.
I’m going to ask for you guys’ opinions here. The reason they’re unlisted is because I want stuff to be released in order, just as much to avoid people constantly asking “why is THIS being released and not In Space/whatever other season is next?!” However, as I continue to build more of an audience and get more revenue, there is something to be said about just having the videos out there anyway. So here’s the question: should I just make them all public anyway, even though we’ve still got a dozen series to be revamped for youtube?
Let’s Play Pokémon Omicron The next Pokémon Omicron stream will be Monday, July 17th at 7 PM Central time! We’re nearing the end and while the sessions will probably start consisting more of grinding than anything else, we might have something special in store for when we get to the Elite 4 – which I’m considering the end of the Let’s Play simply because of how long it’s gone on. I’ll try to get back to work releasing more episodes ASAP, since I’ve certainly got plenty of footage now to work with.
DVD Volume 3 Released! In case you somehow missed the announcement, Atop the Fourth Wall vol. 3: Character Reboot is now available for sale! As a reminder, volumes 1 and 2 have now gone down in price!
You can buy the DVDs via credit card HERE!
You can buy the DVDs via Paypal HERE!
Release Date/Time Change? So Event Comics Month finally concluded… aaaand the videos were late. All but Secret Wars came out late… but only just, because Secret Wars finished up a minute before 10 AM Central time on Monday, which has been the official release time for new episodes for the last several years. To be perfectly honest, I’ve been slipping when it comes to getting stuff finished ahead of time. I don’t know if I’m being lazier, if it’s a matter of taking on too many projects and thus continually rushing to finish stuff later, or simply that Atop the Fourth Wall ITSELF is growing larger and larger, with more and more episodes getting longer and thus TAKING longer to finish.
While of course I know my fans are very patient with me in releasing episodes, I take great pride in getting episodes out on time and I want to see that happen again. As such, I’d like to open the floor to the possibility of changing the release day and time. Why would this affect thing? Well, sometimes stuff in my personal life is what prevents me from getting stuff out on time – I have to go somewhere, meet with people, etc. And the fact is that a lot of the time this happens on the weekend, when that’s also supposed to be crunch time trying to get the video done with. As such, shifting the release date to later in the week might help. On that same note, changing the time of release. Originally, the videos were released at 4 PM on Mondays. That changed a short time later because ThatGuyWithTheGlasses needed their videos scheduled by 10 AM to be up that day on their site. That’s still the case, but I could simply have it released there the next day instead of on the same day it’s uploaded.
The original logic of Monday at 4 PM was that Monday was the most stressful time of the week, since it’s the beginning of the work/school week, so releasing something around the time people generally got home from those made sense to give something to people to de-stress with. Do you guys prefer things the way they are, with occasionally lapsing release times, or would you prefer another day of the week and time for videos to be released?
Conventions Sadly, Wausaubicon has been cancelled, so I will not be making an appearance there.
Anime Midwest – I’ll of course be at Anime Midwest again at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare in Rosemont, Illinois on July 7-9!
Conbravo – I will of course be attending ConBravo again in Hamilton, Ontario on July 28-30! Doug Walker will also be there and a slew of other people!
Geek.Kon – I’ll be going to Geek.Kon in Madison, Wisconsin for the first time on August 25-27! Other guests include Brad Swaile, Jeff Nimoy, and Robert Axelrod!
That’s it for this time! Tell me what you think of all this in the comments and I hope you enjoy the next two months!

Sooo... instead of waiting for people to send me the numbers to answer, I just copied the whole list and am going answer it, because I feel like it.
..... and because I only got 1 ask the last time this was going around anyway.
20 RWBY Questions
1. Favourite RWBY character? Tyrian. (Although before vol.4 came out, it was Cinder.) 2. Favourite RWBY team? Is WTCH officially a team? Can I say them? fuck it, i’m gonna say them. 3. Top 3 favourite songs from the RWBY soundtracks? Red Like Roses pt 1, I Burn Remix, I May Fall 4. Which Huntsmen/Huntress Academy would you attend? probably Shade 5. What would your own semblance be if you could choose one? something air/wind-based 6. If you could chose another character’s semblance which would you pick? Glynda’s. 7. Which RWBY ship would you like to see become canon? Taiyang/Raven. Yeah, it’s alreayd canon, but I legit want them to get back together. 8. If you could form a team with any RWBY characters who would you pick and what would your team name be? Cinder, Tyrian, and Roman. CLRT (claret) 9. Do you have a favourite type of Grimm? If yes, which is it? NUCKELAVEE 10. Which volume and/or chapter has been your favourite so far? the first episode of vol1. The Cinder vs Glynda fight will always be one of my favorite moments from the show. 11. Which character’s backstory would you like to know more of in upcoming volumes? Tyrian 12. Describe what your own RWBY weapon would be. Is it also a gun? A staff and short sword (normally separate) that can be combined to form a glaive. It’s NOT also a gun. 13. If you could wield another character’s weapon which would you pick? Ruby’s, tbh. Polearms are my jam. Scythes are cool. 14. What are three of your favourite quotes from the show? (might be misquoted since it’s been a while since I’ve watched any episodes) “I still don’t think that’s what a sloth sounds like.” | “History is the backbone of society, and the liver, and probably the kidneys.” | Aw, she sent the kids again. Reminds me of the divorce.” 15. What type of faunus would you be? Do you have a favourite faunus character? Shark faunus or snake faunus. Kali & Ghira are probably my favorite faunus characters. 16. Do you have a favourite RWBY villain or nah? Yes. (if you read the other answers, you know who it is.) 17. Out of all of the professors and headmasters we have seen, who do you like the most? Glynda. Although Oobleck is a close second. 18. What are your thoughts on RWBY Chibi? It’s cute and funny. 19. Do you have any RWBY OCs? I’m up to about 20 now. 20. Do you drink milk? Asking for a friend. It’s not Ruby. I don’t drink it very often anymore. We don’t keep it around the house in general and it’s something I specifically think to buy for myself.

Tumblr user Nina nspx’s star wars fic rec vol. 2
An anon asked me for an ahsoka/anakin fic rec and i accidentally deleted the ask (i’m dumb!!) BUT because i love ahsoka and i love anakin and i love their relationship and how they helped each other, i’m gonna do a completely separate fic rec for the anon (i hope u see this lmao sorry for deleting the ask).
but anyway, since the last time i did a rec i had 22 bookmarks on ao3 (i did the last one on october 19th 2015?? how time flies) and now i have like 80+, i decided to do much more than just an anakin/ahsoka rec, but a general star wars fic res
DISCLAIMER: none of these fics feature anakin/ahsoka in a sexual relationship because i am Not About That BUT they do feature other pairings. anyhow.
These are fics u need to read. need to. sorry, i don’t make the rules. this is gonna be so long. i’m sorry (not)
AHSOKA/ANAKIN
A River Flowing by Barkour
A shadow has left the force, but other threats remain as Padmé and Anakin prepare for the birth of their child.
Part 2 of Peachy
The only issue i have with this fic is that it hasn’t been updated in forever. It’s so good tho!! i’m pretty sure i read this one at least four times. anakin doesn’t go evil (which is something the anon asked for!! here u go) but not everything is perfect - duh, it is a star wars fic, we don’t know what happiness is here - and AHSOKA IS SO WELL WRITTEN!! so good. it also dives into life after the jedi, being a civilian, being dirt-poor and living on coruscant and ALSO!! padme/ahsoka is well developed in this. so good. so great. 10/10 must read
Assassination Attempt No. 23 by pieandsouffle
Tatooine's only senator (or, indeed, one of the only people from that desert planet who is capable of reading and writing, or actually understands what the word 'politics' means), Anakin Skywalker, seems to be one of those rare individuals who attract bounty hunters like flies zero in on a bantha corpse.
The senator!anakin au. what more do u need in life? shenanigans ensue
Old Shadows by Sildae for Windona
Ahsoka asks Anakin about his past after the events on Kadavo and Zygerria.
My babies. My poor heart.
Obi-Wan and the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad (Life) Day by wreckageofstars
It's Obi-Wan Kenobi's life day, but good luck telling the galaxy that.
Anakin and Ahsoka are little shits. obi wan and padme are drinking buddies?? sign me the fuck up. the end
hold on to me, 'cause i'm a little unsteady (ws!obi-wan au) by QueenWithABeeThrone
the one where Obi-wan falls off a ship and gets the Winter Soldier treatment, Anakin doesn't fall to the Dark Side but still loses his limbs, Ahsoka can fly with a one-of-a-kind wing-pack, and Padmé gives birth to twins and a Rebellion.
TBH. SO GOOD. ANAKIN AND AHSOKA ARE AWESOME IN THIS. ALSO IN THIS SERIES BY THE SAME AUTHOR:
angels choking on their haloes QueenWithABeeThrone
Anakin hadn’t been lying, when he said he could never kill Obi-wan like he was being asked to, no matter what Obi-wan’s become.
or: Mustafar, in reverse.
Part 1 of hold on to me, 'cause i'm a little unsteady (ws!obi-wan au)
GO READ THIS. it’s unfinished (hasn’t been updated since early 2016, i weep) BUT. still worth a read. really worth it. the second part of this verse ends on the nastiest, most delicious cliffhanger. I WEEP
and hey, a honorary mention, since i haven’t actually read this fic but it was in my ao3 history
Perturbations by the_dragongirl
Anakin makes a different choice, the day Ahsoka leaves the Jedi Order. His actions will determine which of the many possible points of balance in the Force will become the new equilibrium
Part 1 of A Shift in Equilibrium
this has a lot of kudos so?? what the hell. give it a read and tell me what you think
this is it for the anakin/ahsoka part of the rec
OTHER
Fundamental Force Carriers by tanarill
The Sith Lord Darth Vader lived his life. He probably didn't live it well, but he lived it as well as he knew how. At the end there, he'd even managed to woman up and kill Sidious. But he was dying, and at peace with the past.
The past wasn't at peace with him.
Part 1 of Probability Matrices
honestly, this fic is just SU CH a delight. it’s well written, it’s got some real cool science facts for your everyday nerd needs BUT IT’S ALSO THE CRACKIEST CRACKFIC TO EVER CRACK. like. vader dies and goes back in time and he’s got 0 fucks to give about the jedi’s opinion?? he’s here to make things right whether the jedi like it or not??? such a funny, amazing fic. 12/10 on this. nice.
Echoes of Mortis by wreckageofstars
Post-Mortis Arc AU. In a universe where the Father failed to take away Anakin's vision of the future, the Hero With No Fear struggles with the knowledge of what he will become and the knowledge of who, exactly, is responsible. Drastic steps are taken and in the process things go a little bit...sideways.
tbh. so good. also a post-mortic fic (i’m a hoe for mortis). i won’t say too much about this one because i don’t want to spoil anything. i was on the edge of my seat while reading this fic AT ALL TIMES. AT ALL TIMES. I HAD TO READ THE LAST CHAPTER BEFORE READING ON TO MAKE SURE ANAKIN WOULDN’T GO ALL EVIL. i was so pleasantly surprised. it’s just so - poetic. anakin really does a lot of growing in this, i think. brilliant fic
those immortal dead by notbecauseofvictories
I care more for that long age which I shall never see than for the little of Time that I hold
Padmé Amidala is forgotten, not gone.
This is a five times padme amidala’s legacy lived on, basically. it’s got poe in it as well!! and rey, my daughter. what more do you need from a fic? so well written, so poignant, so beautiful
Palpatine Ad Portas by izzythehutt
When the Emperor Palpatine moves the Empire Day Celebration to Naboo, Darth Vader is forced to confront a past he had thought better buried and forgotten. Admiral Piett becomes the reluctant confidante of the monarch, caught in the middle of a deadly Sith cat-and-mouse mind game. Meanwhile, the young Rebel who blew up the Death Star returns to his mother's home world to pay his respects on the anniversary of her death--unaware of his father and the Emperor's presence on the planet and the very grave danger he is in.
Part 2 of In Loco Pirates-Verse
fucked me up really bad, tbh. vader goes to naboo. luke is there. it’s brilliant, but so painful. read at your own risk (but do read it)
Hello From the Other Side by DarthNickels
Kylo Ren is destined to take up the mantle of Vader. The Force can be incredibly literal.
MY FAVOURITE IMPERIAL OFFICER PIETT IS IN THIS!!! and he hates kylo so much, he thinks he’s such a pale imitation of vader, he’s so disgusted by him. i live for it. 10/10
The Sith Who Brought Life Day by ophelia_interrupted for Binder-lover
An Imperial officer loses a bet and has to get Darth Vader a present for Life Day.
i feel like this is such a star wars fic classic that everyone’s already read ages ago except me. the style on this feels really like. (don’t judge me if i’m way off on this lmao) catcher in the rye. reminds me old american classics. that type of feel. it’s so good!!
Into the Archives by skygawker
After hearing the legend of Darth Plagueis the Wise from Palpatine, Anakin decides that his best chance to save Padme is to break into the restricted Holocron Vault of the Temple Archives to search for information about Plagueis. Predictably, all does not go according to plan. Revenge of the Sith AU.
My tiny son anakin is such a mess in this. and you can tell this is au because anakin and obi wan actually talk about anakin’s feelings?? what?? what are those?? anyway. so good. it hasn’t been updated since feb 2016 but like?? my fics havent been since july 2015. figures
for a hundred miles through the desert by wreckageofstars
[“There's no water, on Tatooine,” Luke said finally. “I mean, no large bodies of water, like you have on other planets. Pools, lakes. Oceans.”
“Well, yeah,” Han said, eyebrow raised at the sudden change of subject, tone still sharper than he meant for it to be. “Place is a dustball. So?”
The kid still wouldn't look at him.
“So,” he said, face carefully blank, like it so often was these days, “I never learned how to swim.”]
Han has a hard time coming to terms with Luke's fall to the dark side during Dark Empire; so does Luke.
This is some serious EU shit, but it’s pretty good on its own as an AU scenario. I LOVE the meta on this. love
and rise, rise in the desert sand by hollytrees
Padmé and Anakin keep in touch after TPM.
(Or, the author has started writing Fialleril's Pen Pals AU, possibly because they hate themselves.)
THIS ONE IS SO PAINFUL AND HAS SO MUCH POTENTIAL!! it’s got one chapter but it’s so worth it
Never Heed by dogmatix, norcumi
The Sith Emperor is dead.
A clone visits one more pyre in his long life.
Part 4 of Ghosts of 66
This is Rex coming to Vader’s pyre. fuck mE UP. like HONESTLY. THERE’S ONE BIT IN THIS THAT MAKES ME WANNA CURL UP AND CRY EVERY TIME. actually two bits. three bits. the whole damn story. anyhow
Mercy is the Mighties' Jewel by akathecentimetre for TheCrackedKatana
They've chased each other all over the world - yet somehow, they will always end up here. Modern-day spy!AU with illustration by JakartaInn.
The Obi-wan and Ventress spy au of your dreams. what more do i need to say?
TFA FIC
to lie with your soul in the grave by plinys
Poe casts a glance at the door, he can see their mothers through the semi-transparent glass, it’s too quiet to hear them talk, but he knows whatever it is it can’t be good. The kid sitting next to him seems to have the same idea.
“So, who talks first?” Poe says, breaking the silence between them.
Tbh.. don’t judge but when tfa came out i liked kylo (i’m more.. conflicted about him now) and i read a lot of kylo fic in that time period. i was never a reylo, so i read a lot of other kylo fic, which was mostly either kyhux or kylo/poe WHICH THIS FIC IS ABOUT. THEY KNEW EACH OTHER GROWING UP. THEY WERE IN LOVE. all i remember from this fic is that it’s so well written. give it a read if you’re into this sort of thing
I read like three more kylo/poe fics that are also very good, so. anyway. here goes
saying that I love him but I know I'm gonna leave him byselenedaydreams
“This could be us one day.” Poe whispers half to himself as he finally turns towards Ben, finding a curious expression on his face. “This could be us.” He repeats, this time with more excitement. “You and me. Pilot and copilot. Traveling the universe together.”
Poe has never seen Ben smile at him the way he’s smiling now but Ben’s reaching for his hand and lacing their fingers together so it must be good. “Together.”
Lost To Me by red0aktree
Poe met Ben Solo when he was too young to even know what it meant to meet someone.
Poe met Kylo Ren years later.
Separating the prince of the First Order from the boy he grew up with proves more difficult than the pilot could ever imagine.
Melting Away by SF2187
Before he was Kylo Ren, he was in love with the best pilot in the Republic.
what i like about these fics is that (from what i remember) they don’t erase the fact that kylo is a raging asshole now. nice
excavate me (from all the girls I've tried to be) by Shadows_of_a_Dream
“Rise, Skywalker.”
“I told you,” Rey hisses through gritted teeth. “He’s gone.” Like everyone else. Like all the girls I’ve tried to be. Like all the girls I might have yet become, because I’m going to die alone on this unknown sea.
The mask returns his lightsaber to his belt. And like a crashing wave, like a renewed flame, like the weight of a planet falling squarely upon her shoulders, the mask looks at her and says, “I was talking to you.”
Part 1 of I never asked to tread the skies (but if I shall, I suppose I'll fly)
This one is so... intense. so intense. and so good. 20/10
need somewhere to begin by doubtthestars
Anthology of the War
1//The first time she officially meets Poe, she divulges secrets that aren't hers to tell. 2// If he had been born in any other family, Ben Solo would have been a soldier. 3// When she sees Rey, Leia only has a brief moment to reflect on all of their wrongs.
Read. That is all.
Trial by nymja
Kylo Ren kneels in the snow before her.
“Do it,” he demands.
Rey breathes in through her nose. Her hands are shaking. Her blade starts to burn the skin of his exposed neck. Do it for Han.
--
Luke takes Rey to face The Cave.
Part 4 of Do or Do Not
So cool.
Lessons Learned by nymja
“You’re never going to get anywhere if you don’t learn patience, first.”
“I’m the strongest knight here!”
The Jedi looks around the room, eyeing the skull of his grandfather with pointed distaste. “Yes, well. Good work.”
Part 1 of The Sad Grandpa Trilogy
Forceghost!obi-wan is so disappointed in kylo. it’s great. READ THE WHOLE SERIES BECAUSE IT’S GOLD!! it’s so good!! the next one is about rey and forceghost!anakin in the desert and that fic is so interesting because in it, anakin isn’t really as much of a grandfather figure as he is a friend figure and one of his corporeal forms is a warning to rey. like a mirror in the force (to her, to ren, it’s so brilliant). honestly i could talk forever about the next fic in this series because anakin is SO WELL WRITTEN. SO WELL WRITTEN.
THE CLASSICS
tbh @fialleril‘s Double Agent Vader verse gets the biggest shoutout (love u fia you’re my inspiration) for sheer amazingness. i won’t list any of the fics in the verse because u need to read all of them. yes, all of them. get to it
ACTUALLY. you should read all of fia’s work. all of it. (on the offchance that fia actually reads this, i can’t wait for anabasis i am so pumped)
ALSO!! another must read is @phil-the-stone‘s pocket full of sand 'verse. it’s such an Iconic piece of star wars fanfiction!! like bye, everyone needs to read this
ALSO another one of hers because?? why not. nursery ‘verse!!! i’m so heart eyes over nursery verse. i’m forever flattered because some of my headcanons are in this!! best thing i’ve ever done. (phil writes mostly b99 and ouat now, but still check it out, her writing is so good)
other fandom must-read authors include:
1000-alshain
actual-leia-organa
threadsketchy
star-vault-ofthe-heavens
darthnickels
cadesama
ygrittebardots
@anghraine
@izzythehutt
FF.NET MUST READ AUTHORS ARE:
Mathematica
irnan (all of their work, i’m not kidding, writer goals)
frodogenic (they wrote darth vader’s limplet and other hilarious fics, honestly, star wars humor at its finest)
motchi
a bunch of others, though you might find more in my previous rec
Now. Since we’ve come to the end of this ridiculously long rec, it’s time for me to shamelessly plug my own blog. you can find more tumblr fic in my tag here, you can find my writing here and on ao3 *whispers* leave me a comment, you can find my bookmarks here (and find fics i did not include that are also very good)
have fun reading!!

the stupid arrogance of a small part of the Bumbleby fandom
hello dear followers of RWBY Do you remember the small incident of BB and WR? Many said "the anti are trying to make those 2 fandom fight"
But the reality is that there is a small part of the Bumbleby fandom that feels superior and believes that it can say any stupidity and since they are now "canon" they like to give their "arguments" and when you contradict them, they become the victims ... but I just saw a post and I think it's a great opportunity to address this issue that has been bothering me for 1 month
First, who the hell is she to say something like that?
It is rare that these fans keep saying that the Whiterose fandom wants to be compared to the Bumbleby and the "Try to blame us" so that we "force" them to match the WR.
I'm going to clarify something and I think I speak for all the fandom WR (We do not give a shit to be compared with the Bumbleby) in fact I'm very happy that we are separated because giving the same development to everything is stupid... for God's sake personalities of Ruby and Weiss that would be impossible they have their own little drama and it works well.
Do you really think they are one of the best lesbian romances of animation? by God that's so arrogant ... obviously I do not deny that the Bumbleby has some development is good, but...Do not you know that there are more than 50-60 lesbian couples or ship yuri that are better built, more time on screen and explicit in the animes, manga or Manhwas?
In fact I just saw the chapter 1 of an anime and really there was more lesbian subtext than in 3 volumes of pure "Bumbleby" (this is not fanservice ... if you have heard of Carole and Tuesday is a very serious project)
Vol 1 Bumbleby vs WR
It is rare that I speak of the "great development" because again if we go back to Vol 1, was there Bumbleby?
The reality is that there was nothing and his fandom can not deny this reality, in fact until Weiss had more development with Blake and that is sad
They have the scene of chapter 3 ... where Yang makes Ruby talk to Blake (a scene of 1 minute that eventually turned into a friendly fight between sisters) it is rare that I read about how it was "undoubted" that Yang had in love with Blake ... but let's be honest (that's nothing from there)
chapter 6-7-8
The reason why I put these 3 chapters is because they literally had scenes of 30 seconds in each chapter ... I think the most relevant thing is that Blake chose Yang as his partner. But again this is "Indication of romance"? I mean, do you really blame a part of the fandom for "doubting" of that ship?
If we compare it with the Whiterose in the First Volume the comparison is ridiculous.
as I mentioned earlier in a review where some of these Bumbleby shipper complained that I pointed out something true (that the Bumbleby had almost no screen time in the first 3 volumes)
Again you can not compare (3 minutes, where Sun spent more time with Blake in only 3 chapters) with 22 minutes of Whiterose and 18 minutes of developing the initial Arkos friendship
All the development that the Whiterose received in the first volume (in addition to screen time ... I repeat it to Bumbleby worshipers) can not be compared.
In fact, even the meeting of Ruby and Weiss took a more special approach than that of Bumbleby, Ruby's expression is so evident in that detail
the conclusion of her initial problems as teammates and Ruby desire to want Weiss to accept her was a genius, again the BB did not have anything
even the development given to Ruby as a leader thanks to Weiss in his conflict over the issue of "Leader" was again more focused than the Bumbleby ... so again say that the BB was the "Best" since the beginning is ridiculous, because there really was no argument to support the ship but there is fun.
cof cof The Whiterose was the most popular ship of that time cof cof
they had their intimate moment in the Vol 2x6 before the Dance ... even though it is remarkable, they really left it very "Random" because again Who would have said something if all the night of dancing had been between Yang and Blake)
Before they say anything it is obvious that it was an important moment for Yang character
It's strange to talk about the Dance because really Blake and Yang only got 20 seconds of "Dance" and really there was nothing at all ... I mean she literally stayed with the end with Sun (I mean if they really wanted to focus the Bumbleby like them they mention ... why all that stupidity with Sun was necessary)
It's so foolish to mention that Ruby did not do anything with Weiss at the dance for 3 reasons:
The first one (She did not want to go, she did not know how to dance, she felt uncomfortable in the dress ... it literally was in the worst place) but if we go back to the scene of chapter 4 of that Volume (Ruby did not let Neptune and Weiss connect, because she wanted to go with Weiss ... besides that there if she felt comfortable) I mean it's character consistency
which Yang did not give a shit
The second: Unlike many characters, the dance did not have anything important for the character of Weiss and Ruby ... with Weiss it was only for Jaune to have character development so that he would approach Pyrrha ... with Ruby apart from what she said before, she had to follow Cinder and be out of the party
Did you see the foolishness of that anti WR argument?
It's strange how Weiss narrative instead of more "Straight" does not have any development with the boys, unlike Blake
even here they destroyed the ship of Weiss and Neptune (never to use it again) because they really only did it to develop Jaune as a character
Whiterose in this volume also received more screen time ... which is funny according to the arguments presented by these Bumbleby fans.
Again the Bumbleby was only focused on chapter 8 of Vol 3 (before that he did not get any screen time in that volume and even the Blakesun received a very good blush)
I do not dismiss the Bumbleby moments because of its importance ... but really there is very little time on the screen and that's why I say that the Bumbleby really started to develop from here but that's not why it's the "best romance" or the "Only path".
In fact there was still nothing romantic in the scene and do not come with the "destroy everything you love" because again all the fandom knows that the BB did not have anything romantic until then and that phrase works for everything.
that it has become romantic is one thing, but it could have been used in any context and it works (in fact I'm glad they took that route)
Chapter 12 Vol 3
It is rare that they also mention that "the Whiterose did not receive focus" in the fall of Beacon ... when the reality is that all the main dynamics were focused
Obviously the Arkos received the best ... because there was not going to be another time to do it (now or never) ... but the others received the same time (obviously from the moment where Adam cut Yang arm, you could say that just started the Bumbleby ... but before that they did not have material to be a ship destined to the "canon" because nobody really knew what they were going to do and their "development" is not the best because there is no time on the screen
The difference between the Blakesun and the Whiterose
It's so silly to say that they did not focus on the separation of Ruby and Weiss unlike the Bumbleby ... but it's odd that she did not mention that in Vol 4 (in Yang entire argumentative line she did not mention Blake, there was only one small scene to the interpretation where she sees the books and if you know deduce you can see that she misses Blake ... that's all)
What I find hypocritical here is that they really are the same scene (both miss someone) and again the scene is easy to interpret ... but here they only see "Bumbleby"
The Blakesun became a friendship for the simple fact that Blake had linked more to Yang because of what happened with Adam ... that's all that turned his old dynamic into a new ... it's called development)
Not to mention that the show was betting on the Bumbleby
The scene where really focus the fact that Yang misses Blake and that she "needs" is in the 5x8 ... where he spent the entire half of the chapter ... it served much to awaken the fandom.
Weiss narrative in that volume was divided between Yang and Ruby but leaning to Yang in the first half of that volume because she had to be the bridge so that Yang could understand and forgive Blake the moment she saw her (in addition to that to develop their friendship, because Yang-Weiss had very few interactions, that is evident before Vol 5) ...the funny thing is that again they do not focus on them in Vol 6 because it was not necessary anymore) so that argument is very bad
I must admit that I get quite angry that they say "there is no change in Ruby to see Weiss almost die"
which is a lie, in fact a rather detailed approach was given to Ruby concern for Weiss (in addition to the detail that she pulled Jaune's hands away from our beloved Weiss)
Speaking of Jaune (it is not ironic that the show and the Staff did not want to focus some of Weiss-Jaune dynamics that almost does not exist and did not take advantage of the best opportunity for that)
The end of Vol 5 is a clear example where Weiss did not dedicate 1 minute of his time to Jaune (or even to thank him)
I love the hypocrisy of that little part of the Bumbleby fandom when they say "hey look for a moment Bumbleby" but when they see another moment literally the same ... they like to deny it
This scene between Weiss and Ruby was one of the sweetest, in fact Weiss never dedicated this look to anyone else ... the experience of "almost dying" brought her closer to Ruby and only a stupid could not see it.
The Bumbleby received his moment as well ... but then they went back to the group dynamics, I mean, do they really bother with that?
Whiterose in the Vol 6
Returning to his argument that "there was no change" this is false from the start.
I love that the opening 6 showed Ren and Nora with Ruby and Weiss as the most “affectionate and supportive” dynamics
What is the only thing these Bumbleby fans saw? ... yes, this was
It's pretty hypocritical like those Bumbleby fans who claim that Ruby already "defined" her relationship with Weiss by calling her her "Best friend" in Vol 3 but they really ignore all the development of her emotions towards her in the next volumes and of course (Blake also saw Yang as a friend at the beginning ... she did not fall in love with her from the beginning, in fact she liked Sun)
With Weiss the same applies ... in fact they ignore all of Weiss development with Ruby and his contrast with other characters, which other characters called his "family" relationships .. but let's move on to his next argument
They mention that "Yang and Blake tend to make it more personal"
This is partly true ... but it is evident because Yang and Blake had a traumatic event that involved both, not because their dynamic is full of "drama" means that the other is not worth it, I mean the drama is fine (but not everyone likes that kind of development)
In fact it's funny that she mentions Ruby phrase ... but she forgot to mention that that volume focused on the dynamics of Ruby and Weiss from the beginning...besides they brought Sun and Neptune (sinking both ship with the RWBY team girls)
They love to focus on how the Vol 6 focuses the Bumbleby up on its combat dynamics (when literally the Whiterose stands out much more)
They love to point out how Blake focused on Yang when they both disappeared... but when it comes to the Whiterose (they did the same thing) ... they say "Do not count" jajajajajajaja is ridiculous
Again the show instead of focus on group dynamics, focus both ship separately and intimately ... the scenes of Weiss and Ruby do not have the drama of Yang and Blake (but that's not why there is no development)
Besides that it's obvious how Yang does not highlight anything next to Ruby when it comes to Weiss
The happiness and the conford that Ruby gives to Weiss is unique in its dynamics, this volume focuses more, it is called "Development" when you live many experiences with someone (without needing to be, super dramatics...eventually the feelings change and they become closer)
Even in this scene the show focused primarily on Weiss and even mentioned it in RWBY (Review) which was a topical in the "ship" discussions in this volume ... so again its "Little approach" is ridiculous
Besides that it's obvious how Yang does not highlight anything next to Ruby when it comes to Weiss
There were so many moments in which the show could do the "group dynamics" that they mention so much ... but really the show ultimately focuses on Ruby and Weiss on how these small events make them closer, as Weiss emotions towards Ruby are unique.
Again Blake and Yang do not stand out in anything in their interactions
Even when the Bumbleby was focused on this volume (there were several episodes in which nothing happened) Is this bad? no ... but it is understandable, this happened with other relevant ship
With Ruby and Weiss it was the same, the ship received a lot of time on the screen, a more dynamic dynamic and had its breaks in the Volume ... then in the end having great moments
The scene where Ruby wanted Weiss to be by her side for emotional support and her presence comforting her is simply a genius
His dynamic excelled over the others (except for the BB who were fighting against Adam)
The worry and anger of Weiss by the risky of the actions of Ruby giving a funny moment and at the same time very intimate between both (does not count according to the Bumbleby) because there is no "drama" ajjajajajajjaaj
Even though the Bumbleby was the main focus of the final part of Vol 6 (the Whiterose stood out in a great way ... they gave them so many scenes together and very "shipping") that you would have to be a hypocrite and hater to deny it
The Bumbleby had its best moment and conclusion in this volume and that is very good.
it is obvious that the Bumbleby has to be the main development in this Volume (because not even the arc of Weiss has started that will be given in Vol 7 that obviously will be given together with Ruby) ... all those "arguments" are idiots and easy to deny)
As you could see the arguments to "disprove" the Whiterose are very ridiculous and really say that "They have no bad intention" even when they label it with "Anti WR" is really absurd... but then nobody can tell them anything because they change the story and blame the Whiterose.
Seriously, what the hell did the Whiterose fandom do to the BB on the Vol 6 that are bugging a lot?
which brings me to the last part of the text (which is the most absurd)
As I mentioned before, who the hell wants to "force" them to ship the Whiterose? I hate that stupid arrogance, we do not need them or anything like that ... our fandom from before is already one of the biggest and we never did anything to them, besides that the Whiterose has a different development and that makes it better (because I dont want to see BB 2.0).
Ruby is the protagonists
Another thing that I realized with these "critics" is that they do not understand that Ruby is the protagonist ... her development is different, everything with her has to happen later on.
For something, the dynamics of Ruby and Weiss develops more slowly, has more time on the screen and in the next volume began the Weiss arc that will literally involve Ruby in something much more dramatic, this is not "speculation" of Vol. 6 and the whole narrative is ready ... it's something that that small part of Bumbleby fans do not understand or do not want to understand
Because both Blake and Yang have less relevance than Ruby in the first volumes, they have less screen time in their dynamics before Vol 6 and their ship recently had a satisfactory conclusion in this volume (I do not deny the symbolism or the "parallelism") but I will not go through the negative side that many see in the BB.
This is understandable because they are not the main protagonist, they do not have the dynamics with more time on the screen is obvious...the character of Ruby covers more, there is no time just for ship and even so his dynamic with Weiss is the best developed of his character
The matter with the RWBY Manga
Something quite hypocritical is that really that small part of BB fandom gives relevance to all the moments of his favorite ship in these mangas ... but as you know, the Whiterose has even more moments in the manga and there they close their eyes saying "this it's nothing canon "
even in the new official RWBY manga (published in the Shonen Jump) that many in the fandom, even the Haters have praised for their good narrative, has as its main focus the Whiterose ... literally here is a person who has more knowledge of how to write a story and his favorite dynamic is the Whiterose where he makes it clear that he pairs them and his moments are not few, so again, why give more material to a ship ... that does not make sense? but to the Bumbleby that is the "canon" there is very little in that manga (but there is) because the author also understands that there is yuri
know that manga will follow the official history of the Vol but clear with details of the author and as we see (remains excellent) and RT gave his full permission, it is obvious because they do not give ship material between Weiss-Jaune-Jaune-Ruby or other ship unimportant to the future
Conclusion
Since the recent Vol 6 ended and the Whiterose became much more "relevant" as ship because now you can get a consistent narrative of all the development of both girls ...some Bumbleby fans feel the need to "discredit" because .. .they are "the canon WLW" and it is very stupid.
Bumbleby fans do not complain about stupid couples like Sun-Weiss who has no fucking sense (not even the WR complain about that) (do not complain about Jaune-Weiss who does not have a minute of development in this volume)
They want to have a "unique" narrative in which Blake stays with Yang because this is something "revolutionary" ... but they want to match Weiss with a boy with whom she has no development in a pathetic cliche ("because she is straight" ) when actually until Blake had more Focus on that unlike Weiss... that there is literally 0 development with guys.
As of the end of this volume, they are beginning with their "inoffensive" arguments to try to discredit Whiterose.
-First they started with "pedophilia" (which is stupid) -Then they followed that a "vocal" part of the Whiterose fandom sexualizes Ruby (which is funny because Yang is the most profaned character in all RWBY and with more parodies and material in the Rule 34 hetero-lesbian) without mentioning that this argument is very silly because it's internet and a popular series will always have porn of all kinds (you have to live in a bubble if you think only lesbians like BB)
Then they say that "we force them to shippear" which I explain here is ridiculous (Also again ... you stop labeling your post with "Tag" from Renora, Arkos or other ship ... many times, but nobody tells you nothing, here the Whiterose does not do that almost never and when does it is to focus a point ... but apparently this Bumbleby fan are fucking elitists)
I think I said what I had to say and for every member of the Whiterose fandom that reads this (Do not let this little part of the Bumbleby fandom tell you that nonsense, then they are complaining "there are all hating BB because they are homophobic" ... now I understand why they hate them, they want to annoy another fandom that does not do anything to them ... although at the end of the day, they do not know a shit about what might happen in the series and their arguments are so unimportant that it has no relevance) .. But it's always good to bring out your nonsense
I like the ship Bumbleby I made several reviews in their favor (but that 5% of their fans have me getting tired with their hypocrisy and believe themselves superior when they come out with those pathetic arguments)
Having said this I say goodbye and until the next

NAOKI’s (FANTASISTA/ex-Kagrra,) Live your life one way or another ♡ Vol.1 Takahashi Makoto (JET SET BOYS/ex.BOØWY)
ROCKPRESSTokyo’s new serialization begins. Bassist NAOKI (FANTASISTA/ex-Kagrra,) has frank discussions with celebrities, artists and athletes he wants to meet while drinking their favourite alcohol. It’s titled “NAOKI’s (FANTASISTA/ex-Kagrra,) Live your life one way or another ♡” ! The guest in the first part is, somehow, a person NAOKI has admired since his student days: drummer Takahashi Makoto (JET SET BOYS/ ex- BOØWY)! The deep conversations vary from anecdotes from the BOØWY era to private matters.
Chapter 1 part 3
Chapter 1 pt 1 / Chapter 1 pt2 / Chapter 1 pt 3 / Chapter 1 pt 4 / Chapter 1 pt 5 / Chapter 1 pt 6
Takahashi: Disneyland already existed in NAOKI’s youth (lol)?
NAOKI: It did (lol). Afterwards we went to Harajuku for sightseeing. There were nothing but new things we didn’t have in Hokkaido, and I was like “Uwa, cool!”. At the time, rockabilly fashion was hugely popular.
Takahashi: Is that, PINK DRAGON?
NAOKI: Yes. Later CREAM SODA and such. Then, when I was waiting for everyone while they were buying souveniers, I got extorted for money (lol).
Takahashi: Was that because you were wearing gakuran or some other uniform..? They target students, right.
NAOKI: I was wearing a blouser. A group of three youths came to me and asked, “Where’re you from?”, and at the instant I replied “Hokkaido!”, they took me along to a less crowded spot... After they had taken my money, they shouted, “Don’t ya move from here until we’ve disappered from your sight!”. They guys left and I was telling my friends that Tokyo was serious business when about 30 seconds later a police officer on a bicycle went past ringing a bell (lol).
Takahashi: Fool! Hide money in your underwear (lol).
Everybody: (roars of laughter)
NAOKI: Anyway, when I moved to Tokyo when I was 18, I suffered from the humidity and heat. At that time I lived in Saitama area and I remember the summer was really hot. Kaggra,’s Izumi (drums) is also from Hokkaido and he had come to the metropolitan area earlier to study at a vocational school. He contacted me asking if I played bass and that way I ended up moving to Tokyo. His relative owned a ramen shop which had a vacant second floor where we lived together. We visited the ramen shop’s fridge in the middle of the night as we pleased and ate pork cutlets, and when we got caught, it reached the point that they installed a lock in it (lol).
Takahashi: That’s funny. When you’ve lived in Tokyo since you were 18, you’re not the same person as you were in your hometown.
NAOKI: Certainly, maybe (lol). From there I started doing music, and after Kagrra, dissolved in 2011, I started solo bassist activities. Have your thoughts and awareness changed after BOØWY’s break-up?
Takahashi: Let’s see... It hasn’t particularly changed but I used to think that the past brought along annoying things (lol). [?]
Everybody: (roars of laughter)
Takahashi: When I dispatched to work solo, I listened to a sound source and occasionally went, “I think that’s not my rhythm..!” among other things? But when you say those things too often, it limits your freedom (lol). Afterwards, because my nature is very plain and simple, I only kept thinking that after quitting the band, reflecting the things from the past was good, so the following year after the break-up, when each member had announced solo activities, I remember being surprised (lol). After other members had properly retired from BOØWY, I seriously pondered what I should do. It’s natural, though (lol).
NAOKI: Makoto-san... That’s amazing, I’m the same (lol).
Takahashi: Until then, people at the agency had planned my schedules half a year to a year in advance, and if I had stayed, in a sense it would’ve been secure. However, after the band had broken up, when I had to properly consider such things by myself, I realized that I had to take care of myself. Talking about the break-up, in the final concert of the tour right before the break-up, Himurock, who always called out to the fans “I love you!”, became quiet little by little on the stage. Well, we had decided amongst ourselves that we were going to quit, so we couldn’t say stuff like “We’ll come again!”. At that time, he was almost solely in charge of MCs, so as expected, seeing his appearance was painful.
Notes:
PINK DRAGON: a fashion brand by Cream Soda, from what I gather.
Gakuran: boys’ school uniform (typically a black blouser and a pair of black straight pants).
「東京、半端ねえなぁ」: I think normally “hanpa” is written with kana only? If there’re other ways to interpret this, I’ll gladly take tips.
Himurock: Kyosuke Himuro, vocalist of BOØWY .
I translated Takahashi’s two last replies quite loosely. I still struggle with very long sentences and often become impatient = I start skipping nuances.
