Also reading the lore, Anubis was created to be in charge of ecological balance. With ALL the crap ow's humanity was doing, it can be inferred Anubis was forced to sacrifice entire species for humanity's survival. When humanity kept squandering healthy change, Anubis did what it was programmed to do: keep earth's ecological systems in balance. The biggest threat WAS humanity. Declassified stated after yet another round of global conservation talks that went no where, Anubis' monitoring team was taken out by limiting the air vents. (<We don't know what caused the ventilation shut down to occur. Could have been Anubis, could have been an outside actor aiming to sabotage Anubis.)
Then Anubis went 'rogue'
^ But I don't think Anubis went "rogue" -- Anubis was doing exactly what it was programmed to do. Balance the ecological systems of earth. And if there was any non human species causing a mass extinction event like humanity was doing, anubis would prune it. Logically, it HAD to have pruned species before.
Bc of what Anubis did, it implies ow humanity was statistically likely to end up killing earth, so Anubis determined it was worth the risk of causing some eco damage vs complete eco destruction if humanity kept it's course.
But Anubis lost, and now earth is severely damaged PLUS it doesn't have a god ai to oversee the entire systems PLUS the ecopoints have become more and more disjointed, with unsettling new weather anomalies and seemingly energy spikes out if no where (it's confirmed anubis had created secret omniums like in the east China sea, so I guess that there are more secret omniums, one could be in antarctica to match the unsual readings Mei discussed in the PVE codex.)
All this to say, by technicalities... #AnubisWasRight lmafo. Yet ow portrays Anubis as 'rogue' but like. Humanity made a stupidly designed tool, and was punished for hubris.
But then we look at how Ramattra disagrees with Anubis. And I find that really fascinating. We know it's in part of Ramattra disagreeing with how Anubis sent omnics to thier demise, but that's hindsight for the Awakening. So what could it be? ...I genuinely think Ramattra disagrees with the purposeful extinction of humanity. Ramattra is fighting humanity, yes, but only for omnic liberation from humanity's oppression.
I think his view is that trusting humanity as a species is dangerous bc humanity is not a hivemind like omnics can be. Humans cannot unilaterally organize, which causes violence and no assured generational safety. And omnics NEED assured safety throughout the generations bc if one human generation grants omnics liberation, only for the 3rd human generation to deny it again? Omnics are FINITE. They can't afford humanity's wishy washy organization when it comes to omnic's right to exist. Ramattra admires ant colonies: an ant colony is a super organism. He admires the things they build together, and how they cooperate when threatened.
I think this is why Ramattra is fine with individual "helpful humans" but not humanity as a whole bc humanity isn't a superorganism. I'm not sure where OW is going with Ramattra, but having Ramattra default like Bastion did with Anubis coding, and become the very thing Ram was terrified of becoming is a really wild take, doomed by the narrative fr. Narratively it's nature vs nurture question but uh... omnics are not organic? Omnics are so ingrained to 'nature'(omnic coding and anubis coding) it can be hard to seperate thier nature even with Aurora's gift of free will. So imo it becomes awkward to portray a "nature vs nurture" question with omnics, bc it implies nature(omnic: coding. organic: genetics) is the true influence. Bastion only became "safe" after Torb removed Bastion's anubis coding. So. Erm.
All this to say, well. Depending on what subjugator helmets do (we know removing a helmet incorrectly causes the subjugated omnic to die :( but what does it do exactly? It's SO ODD that Null Sector targets omnics, but then leaves the subjugated bodies lying around? I really hope it's not actually memory wiping or making omnics brain dead...) Ramattra might ALSO be technically a #RamattraWasRight.
If Ramattra is aiming to preserve as many conciousness of omnics as possible with the helmets, or possibly trying to create a new awakening to solve the finite generation issue. Well. Can you blame him? He will fight for omnic's right to exist, and doesn't aim to cause the extinction of humanity, but IF humanity does go extinct, well. Anubis technically deemed ow humanity on track with destroying all of earth. I think that's Ramattra's logic?
Sorry for rambles, and NO I DO NOT THINK HUMANITY SHOULD GO EXTINCT IN OVERWATCH LOL. But if u could save all life on earth if u prune one species, I think it's logical for robots in ow to choose to sacrifice one species to save earth's future LOL. And I think Ramattra is fully in his rights to defend omnics from extinction with violence because omnics cannot reproduce and ARE facing violence. Ramattra can either sit back and watch omnics go extinct, or step up and fight for survival (ow writes Ram as hasty and unprepared which.... imo is too human/ooc but ig that creates conflict but also like. Wtf he is litterally a commander robot why would he be incompetently hasty).

Virion Sol species and worldbuilding thoughts
Please don’t look under the cut if you’re trying to avoid spoilers of Prime Defenders, minor ones at that! (Also these are all my headcanons, and some aren’t based on any existing canon because I’m silly goofy)
Elves are a species of tall humanoids, covered in a short layer of fur all over. They were the original inhabitants of Fauna, and to adapt to the temperature and gravity anomalies, they evolved to have long, non-prehensile tails for balance, and natural weapons such as Teeth to handle the hostile monsters and environment.
The average height for Elves is actually 6’6”, as a result of the same gravity anomalies mentioned before. Virion is rather short for an Elf, it’s just he’s a giant compared to the other PD (William who is 5’8” and Dakota who is 5’4” respectively)
Elves reach physical maturity at about 14, but take longer to mature mentally. This is because more fully formed, working hands is needed to survive in Fauna, and mental maturity can be taken at a slightly slower pace. (Because of this, Dakota and William probably looked extremely young to the other elves when visiting Fauna)
Fauna is situated on the back of a massive sky god. It resembles an astronomically large bird that flies throughout the world and causes wind to stir, and weather to be a bit more intense. When I get Lich attacked, its presence caused the Sky God to become ill. The people of Fauna will have to spend hundreds of years aiding its recovery
Elves are elemental creatures, and typically have the natural element of Fire. This is because the god they killed (something mentioned by Vyncent in s1) was one of fire, and after its death, its power spread and granted fire manipulation to everyone there when it fell.
Due to the sky god’s magical presence, gravity tends to act in unexpected ways. This can result in random chunks of land, items, people, and more suddenly experiencing it differently. In some places of Fauna, “floating parkour” is very popular, which is partially the reason they have tails for balance. Before constructing structures that don’t get immediately destroyed by odd gravity, jumping around on floating structures was a large part of life and survival (partially based on this movie)
The language of Fauna is easiest spoken by species with the ability to make more dynamic sounds with the throat, as much of it is consisted of “growls” of various types

Why Hill Top Road is most certainly not the only portal:
A theory I didn’t type out because I had thought to eventually write a fanfic about it, but here you go because it’s the last possible day for me to post a called shot with my tma theory without tmp lore being involved.
Section 1 - The Tree
When we’re first introduced to Hill Top road in MAG 08, the statement giver provides us with his gut-check instinct about the tree on the premises, which cast odd shadows and “creeped him the hell out”, culminating with him feeling the need to destroy it.
This tree, as we all understand by the end of MAG 196 - This Old House, is a symptom of the crack in reality seeping out from underground, but let me draw your attention to MAG 127 - Remains to be Seen, where Jonah hires Doctor Jonathan Fanshawe to visit Albrecht von Closen in the Schwartzwald, otherwise known as the Black Forest in Germany. When his carriage arrives, what does he see but some absolutely heinous tree that absolutely must be killed:
and then, later on:
A single tree so inexplicably foul, it inspires the urge to kill it dead. Section 2 - Underground In MAG 59 - Recluse, the orphan Ronald Sinclair wanders into the basement of Hill Top Road, and recounts his observations of the room:
Compare this with Anya Villette’s description in 114 of the unlisted HTR basement, involving unfinished masonry and damp earth
As a curious parallel, in Albrecht Von Closen’s experience descending down the strange, isolated mausoleum in the Schwartzwald, the tree-punctured, decaying stone stairway yields to a room with books touching walls so weather exposed, the statement giver is unable to tell if the books are truly touching walls at all, or are in fact bordered in with bare soil.
And what item did Albrecht find conspicuously on the floor of Johann von Württemberg’s mausoleum, the subtler mystery detail hidden by the much thematically larger mystery of the books? Section 3 -The coin anomaly Inside this strangely placed, isolated mausoleum in the Scwartzwald, Albrecht von Closen found a coin, dated the year the count Ulrich II of Württemberg passed away.
Interestingly, in both our universe and the in-fiction one, Eberhard I succeeded Ulrich II, and not any bastard named Johann. Our dear Archivist comments on this in the same breath as dismissing it as coincidence, which historically means it definitely isn’t.
Preposterously familiar for anyone who’s spent any amount of time thinking about the obvious HTR-based disappearance/reappearance/time skipping of Anya Villette (MAG 114) and Anne Kasuma nee Willette (MAG 08). Kind of curious how this absolutely cursed book collection shows up in proximity of a cursed tree that people are urged to kill, in a weird mausoleum nobody has any record of, alongside a coin of a man who may not have existed and definitely wasn’t a lord or any sort of royalty and yet there’s currency commemorating him? This is not the end of the Scwartzwald anomalies, though. You see, this coin…went missing. Section 4 - Profound violence, and an eyeless man It’s unclear the circumstances of how Albrecht lost this coin, though given that he wrote his statement in 1816, I suspect it fell out from a pocket during Albrecht’s very next encounter which causes him to flee the Black Forest entirely. The encounter where the guy who keeps creeping around the outside of the mausoleum, issuing vaguely intimidating warnings, decides to accost Albrecht and reveals himself to have empty eye sockets, and the ability to “see” regardless.
The identity of the Eyeless man remains unknown definitively, as he runs off as if he was startled by some sort of predator, but in some Absolute Hunt Bullshit that seems to follow pretty much immediately, there was a murder that same year that investigators briefly thought was committed by Albrecht’s host and nephew, Wilhelm.
An eyeless man, a cursed tree, the profound violence of a hunt, the man who doesn’t belong with a history that couldn’t be true. And that’s not to mention the incredibly cursed vibes of both locations. To wit, in MAG 196 regarding the nature of these cracks in the universe:
Compare this to Albrecht’s description of the Schwartzwald:
AND ALL THIS IS TO SAY, in my heart I know it’s true that there are more portals, because as a patreon subscriber I got to submit a question for the Q&A And do you know what they did? Do you know what happened to my question? They reworded it beyond recognition, to a thing that was NOT what I was on about at all. I asked about the potential for other Cracks in reality to exist currently, like the hints for Schwartzwald or The Eschatology Door in Paris, and do you know what they rewrote the question to be about (but still put my name on so I KNOW it was supposed to be mine) (also please dont go find it, it’s embarrassing how they butchered my ask and also it has my human name on it and I don’t know yall like that tbh, so just take my word for it)? The question they answered was if different places and countries had their own regionally specific fear domains, like Paris for example. Which like, obviously?? I forget how exactly they rephrased it, I was on a walk listening and my ears went hot and my eyes went wide and I KNEW I HAD SOMETHING WITH A MELTY HOT CORE OF TRUTH TO IT. Pure adrenaline, sign me up for the Fucked Up Red String Tower where People Judge Marble Domain I guess, but I feel it in my GUTS now. And you know, maybe the question was rewritten by a staff member before they ever saw it, any number of things could have happened along the pipeline. It seems bizarre to me that they’d even leave it in after choosing to rework it that hard, though. But I’ll tell you what, the question posed was about cracks in reality, not fear domains. And I feel CLOSE to something. In Annabelle’s own words,
Indeed, few have ever thought much of it at all. Perhaps there are many such places across the Earth. Perhaps it is unique. Certainly, no-one has known either way.
(PS don’t get me started on MAG 134 - Time of Revelation, DON’T GET ME STARTED ON IT)
Transcripts lovingly taken from https://snarp.github.io/magnus_archives_transcripts/ All the screenshots have alt texts with the contents in plain text. Mainly, the goal I set here was to get it out there before TMP, so I can feel very very clever if they ever address it. Also, this is my first effortpost using this editor and BOY YA'LL WEREN'T KIDDING.

Research projects protect national security assets from space weather
Space weather is a double-edged sword: It's capable of delivering majestic phenomena like the auroras near Earth's poles, but it can also have more alarming consequences with significant national security implications.
In 2014, for example, researchers at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Laurel, Maryland, discovered that plasma bubbles connected to space weather partly contributed to communications outages during a major battle in the Afghanistan War, during which three Navy SEALs died.
APL researchers continue to work on applications such as atmospheric models and new sensors and instruments not only to aid in discovering anomalies caused by space weather but also to investigate how to keep critical national security assets safe both in space and on the ground.
"Society has such a dependence on space now," said Ben Estacio, an APL researcher who supervises a team that investigates how space systems can work within the space environment. "Most people don't realize how much of their daily lives rely on space."
The sun's Influence
A powerful solar flare or a coronal mass ejection—events where plasma bursts away from the sun into space and possibly toward Earth—can potentially disrupt power grids, affect railroads or harm astronauts operating in space.
But space weather events can also affect national security in various ways, such as disrupting GPS, radio and satellite communications; affecting radar performance and capabilities; and creating drag on satellites, knocking them off course.
For example, in radio communications, space weather can cause ionospheric scintillation, a phenomenon during which subtle changes in the ionosphere alter how radio waves travel. In some scenarios, radio signals sent at the appropriate frequency typically bounce off the ionosphere. When space weather events occur, those signals can bounce in unexpected directions or escape through the ionosphere.
"If you're broadcasting on the ground through a disturbed ionosphere, other spacecraft may receive radio signals you're trying to send securely," said Bob Schaefer, an APL space physicist.
Space weather events can also lead to a loss of assets and could leave national security capabilities vulnerable. "Strong space weather events can adversely affect one system or a combination of systems," said Pat Dandenault, a physicist specializing in space weather research at APL.
"When that happens, other people can take advantage of critical systems and networks. The ability to forecast these dynamics and the potential impacts of space weather phenomena in near-real time is critical."
Assessing space weather's impact
APL experts have developed a myriad of research areas and applications aimed at helping the Laboratory's sponsors better understand how space weather impacts the nation's assets.
Initiated in 2020, the NASA Center for Geospace Storms (CGS) is developing a holistic, predictive space weather simulation that will estimate how space weather events impact Earth. In April, CGS made this model available for simulations upon request through NASA's Community Coordinated Modeling Center (CCMC).
"The availability of these simulations at CCMC marks a significant step forward, empowering the scientific community to work together toward deepening our understanding of how space weather affects the near-Earth environment," said APL's Slava Merkin, director of CGS.
Multiple APL efforts aim to measure and model space physics properties to specify and forecast ionospheric behavior, uncovering when disruptions in the upper atmosphere might happen and monitoring changes in atmospheric satellite drag conditions caused by space weather. These include:
Special Sensor Ultraviolet Spectrographic Imager (SSUSI): A series of APL-built instruments that power more than 20 space-weather-related products in near real-time for the U.S. Space Force to help describe the state of the ionosphere, thermosphere and auroral zone environments
Next-generation Ionosphere Model for Operations (NIMO): A predictive, assimilative model of the ionosphere that can use data from ground GPS receivers, radio occultation from satellites, ionosondes and SSUSI data
OVATION Prime: A predictive model of auroral location, boundaries and energy flux used operationally by the Space Force and NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center
High-Latitude Ionosphere Specification: An ensemble of models that have been combined with data assimilation capabilities to generate detailed, near-real-time ionosphere specifications for use in multiple Department of Defense applications, such as radar systems in the high northern latitudes
Having these resources is especially beneficial to national security sponsors as they troubleshoot and mitigate problems that may impact critical assets, Estacio said. "Understanding if something was done to your spacecraft intentionally or was just the result of natural high-energy particles is a crucial distinction to be able to make."

Stranded & explosive
Cathrine x Haku (pre-established)
Cathrine calls for help.
Fluff
The night was peaceful as Cathrine sat underneath the dying tree, nervously biting at her nails as she scrolled through her phone awaiting for someone to get back to her.
She had been on some stupid mission for Romeo, sent to obtain a special powder from some shady agent in the middle of nowhere. When she asked how he managed to get the school to agree to allow her out by herself he simply grimaced at her and said a ‘BB’ like herself isn’t on the need to know basis…
So It was definitely Hyde.
Hyde who also didn’t answer her calls as she desperately tried to get in contact with literally anybody, Hyde being a last resort right next to the chancellor who she most definitely wasn’t going to be calling.
She glanced over at the flames that licked the fields around them, sighing as the mechanical bull sparked even more, a sign that the previous explosion wasn’t finished as she quickly ran a bit further out, sighing as she realised there’s one person she actively avoided calling.
Haku.
She just knew the scolding he’d give her wasn’t worth the call for help but…desperate times.
She dialled his number, impatiently waiting for the priest to answer his phone as she paced, flinching when another explosion set off as she narrowly avoided a piece of steaming metal that landed right next to her burning her knee as she was about to walk right into its place, she hissed in pain checking the small burn with a mixture of disappointment and resignation.
“Princess!!”
A joyful voice called through the phone as she quickly pulled it up to her ear, someone finally fucking answered.
“Haku listen-“
The flames roared in the background, interrupting the peaceful countryside and making itself known in the background as she winced at Haku’s concerned laugh.
“Princess…this is a bit late for a phone call, unless you’re calling for a late night visit?”
A flirtatious tone tried to cover the edge in his voice as she could already feel the gears turning in his head.
“You have to promise not to be mad.”
She glanced helplessly at her exploding creation, mournfully sighing as she sat back on the ground.
“I…what did you do?”
She could already hear the disapproval in his voice, it’s not like she broke any of the rules, but Haku loved to subtlety remind her to always stay on guard with that sort of thing.
“You didn’t promise.”
She sang through the phone, she could hear Zenji in the background claiming they must save the damsel in distress causing Cathrine to giggle at the poets antics as Haku hissed something at him, she couldn’t quite make out what he said as another small explosion sent pieces of her creation flying across the field.
“I’m not promising-but I will help.”
She sighed at his compromise, it was better than nothing and by nothing she means it’s literally her only option.
“I’m on a job for Romeo- long story short I had to travel to some shady shack in the woods to pick something up-the dude had a mechanical bull and offered it to me-turns out it’s a machine mixed with an anomaly and it did not like the upgrades I made to it…it’s currently exploding in the middle of a field.”
She took a selfie of her and the exploding bull and sent it to Haku.
“I can’t leave as the suitcase with the powder in it is in the fucking middle of the explosion-I can’t call the train for some reason and literally no one else is answering the phone so please help me or I might end up murdering the weird shack man due to being driven in-insane.”
She flopped onto the mildew grass, letting out an exaggerated growl of annoyance as she could already feel the damp seeping through her back. Romeo told her this was an easy job and should only take a couple of minutes…so she just came in a cropped jumper and short skirt. Which she now deeply regrets, the freezing weather doing nothing to ease her increasingly irate mood.
“…how can I help Princess? Besides being a conspirator of a murder plot.”
Haku teased through the phone, making Cathrine sigh as she wasn’t really sure how Haku could actually help.
“I don’t know…it’s not like you can come here, urgh…”
She threw her arm over her eyes not wanting to see the disaster before her, she could hear Zenji proclaim shouts of ideas as both her and Haku debated their options. Before she could think of something, another phone call came through, Cathrine threw a silent mini tantrum kicking her legs out before taking a deep breath and throwing her arm out to check who’s calling her.
Fucking Hyde.
“One sec Kusa.”
She put him on hold before he could say anything else as she answered the call.
“What did you do?”
Hydes cold voice chimed through the phone, sleep encompassing it as it seems it’s not just Cathrine who’s irritated.
“There’s-I ltwas the fucking shady shack guy-“
A sharp sigh interrupted her.
“That would be Arato.”
Fucking Arato…
She now has a name for the person she’s going to murder.
“Anyway he gave me this mechanical bull that turned out to be an anomaly and everything exploded and I can’t call the galaxy express for some reason and…the suitcase is fine-it’s just in the fire but it’s okay. but could you give Haku Kusanagi approval to come get me please I’m on the phone to him and it’d be great to have another pair of hands.”
She heard Hyde hum thoughtfully to himself through the phone.
“The express app might be down on your phone I think it’s an issue at the moment but…Sure I can give your boyfriend the approval, I’ll send it to you now…though, you’re gonna owe me for this, Kusanagi too.”
Cathrine let out a strangled noise as she shot up into a seated position.
“No…not Kusanagi, I’ll owe you double favours but leave him out of it.”
Hyde noted how she didn’t deny the vice captain being her partner.
“Three favours from you and I’ll leave him alone…for now.”
Cathrine sighed but knew if they kept going she’d end up owing a million favours.
“Fine.”
She whined out with resignation, hanging up as the form came through, she took Haku off hold, hearing him and Zenji bicker about saving the ‘damsel in distress.’ As Zenji kindly put it.
“Yo, I got you approval to come help me.”
She cut through them, grinning at Haku’s light laughter as he realised they’d been caught.
“How’d you-do I want to know?”
Haku paused as she heard shuffling in the background, she heard a loud metallic clunk as the sound of Haku speed walking through Hotarubi echoed out of the phone.
“Don’t worry about it…”
She sighed out, the three of them started quietly chattering as Cathrine tried to distract herself from the freezing cold and the continuous blazing fire that seemed to enrage anytime she tried to come near it, forcing her further into the field and further into the cold…
She just hoped they’d get here soon.
———————————————————
Cathrine was freezing.
Now she wasn’t one to be dramatic…
But she might be freezing to death.
Haku and Zenji will find her as a curled up ice cube surrounded by a weirdly freezing fire, as if the anomaly sensed her predicament and actively wanted to make things worse for her.
“Well well well! If it isn’t our fair maiden asleep in the cold breeze, a whirlwind of flames surround her as she fans the flame of your heart-“
She shot up, trying to hide her shivering and failing miserably as Haku wanders over to her and drapes a thick brown leather jacket around her. The jacket was one of her favourites to steal from him, despite the two of them nearly being the same height it was still oversized on her and it was extremely warm, which she could’ve cried happy tears from the feeling of warmth slightly enveloping her, her fingers sore from the cold as she snuggled as deep as she could into the jacket, clutching it close to her as she tried to wrap herself up.
“Hey princess~ thought you could use this as well.”
He kneeled down next to her passing over a travel mug, which Cathrine swiftly swiped, taking a tentative sip as the most beautiful hot chocolate she’s ever tasted burned her throat.
“This is the best hot chocolate I’ve had in my life.”
She was almost In awe as a mixture of cinnamon, chocolate and sweet syrups (and baileys) thrummed through her.
Haku chuckled as he brushed a hand through her hair, tucking a loose strand behind her ear as he watched her down the hot chocolate. He had it prepared already, planning to surprise Cathrine with hot chocolate at the cathedral before she called him with the current situation. Her hands were shaking, cheeks red from the cold and teeth chattering with blue lips, she was trying to pretend she wasn’t almost freezing to death, stubbornly clamping her mouth shut as she clutched at the mug for dear life.
“Anything for you princess…I brought a fire extinguisher and hmmm-“
A bit of hot chocolate was at the corner of Cathrine’s mouth, Haku grinned to himself as he swiped it off of her with his thumb, licking it as he watched in amusement as Cathrine’s eyes went wide and her face flushed a deep red as Haku leaned in.
“It does taste pretty good.”
Before he could do any more damage to Cathrine’s heart, Zenji popped his head between the two.
“Our charming Haku, shall we distinguish these flames and then you two can set alight your desires.”
Zenji teased the two, Cathrine forcing herself into a standing position despite the chill in her legs making it almost impossible to stay up. She grabbed the fire extinguisher and forced herself to make her way to the bull. She almost didn’t make it if it wasn’t for Haku wrapping an arm around her, helping her over as he then wrapped both arms around her with the excuse of keeping her upright, resting his head on top of hers as they both set off the extinguisher, the flames slowly dying out as the bull slowly turned to them, blowing out steam as it angrily spun towards Cathrine.
Zenji stood in front of it, playing a gentle song on the biwa as he sang to the fuming beast. She leaned into Haku, sighing to herself as she watched the anomaly calm from Zenji’s soft and soothing song. It trotted over to Cathrine, huffing out as it pressed itself close to her looking up at her in contentment as Zenji looked at the two proudly.
Cathrine looked at him in amazement as he nodded encouragingly at her, continuing to play his song as Cathrine reached her hand out to pat the smooth head of the animatronic, gasping as glowing red eyes closed and the anomaly purred happily as it slowly shrunk. Shrinking into a small bee sized creature as Cathrine watched in wonderment, Haku held her close in fear that it was all a ploy before relaxing as the bee flew over to Zenji’s biwa, sitting on the tuning section. Cathrine was trying to unravel the mystery of what just happened in her head as she stared at the anomaly. Haku could see the gears turning as she flicked through her internal catalogue of known anomalies.
“It’s a pixie-like anomaly Cat~the shack guy must’ve trapped it in the mechanical bull form and whatever you did to it must’ve unlocked its cage…”
She held her finger out as the bee landed on it, buzzing happily as it got up and flew around them.
“It was burning away the cage that held it…”
She hummed happily to herself as she spun around the bee following her as she grabbed onto Haku’s hand, clasping them together as she dragged him in the direction of where the station should be. Haku just smirked to himself as he tugged his shivering princess towards him, enjoying the shriek she let out as he scooped her up and started going in the opposite direction.
“Cat, it’s this way…”
She let out a strangled noise as she huddled closer to Haku, wrapping her arms around his neck as she greedily slipped her hands onto his back, taking as much warmth as she could as Haku tried to suppress a shiver, pouting at Cathrine as her cold hands sapped his warmth.
“You’re cruel.”
Haku murmured out as Zenji snickered at the two, going off onto a soliloquy about love and soul mates as the two rolled their eyes at his dramatics.
“I’m cold.”
She pressed her hands to Haku’s cheeks as he leaned into her touch, pressing a kiss to her palm as she quickly snatched them away, the cold hiding her blush as she slumped her head onto his shoulder, hiding her flustered state.
“My poor angel, I guess that means I need to warm you up ey?”
He pressed a kiss to her closed eyelid causing Cathrine to cover her face, hiding the small smile as Haku continued to pepper little kisses over her hands and any parts of her face he could reach.
“This reminds me of a poem…”
Zenji floated beside them, ignoring the aching in his heart as he watched the two, reciting his poem as a furiously blushing Cathrine avoided their gazes. Haku seemed extremely pleased with himself as he held Cathrine as close as he possibly could, grinning as she slowly fell asleep against his shoulder as they continued their journey.
“It seems your plans to have a devious evening with Cathrine still came to fruition, she always knows how to electrify the night.”
Zenji announced as Haku nodded in agreement. Haku’s original plan was to bring hot chocolate to the overworked Cathrine and sneakily make his way to staying the night and forcing Cathrine to catch some sleep, but now instead he gets to hold his princess close and have her snuggle up to him, something she rarely did even when they shared a bed, so he’ll take the win and keep his mini lecture for tomorrow…
“She always does, our princess.”
Zenji gave a hearty chuckle as he glanced adoringly at the now lightly snoring girl, they were approaching the train and escaping the cold, something Cathrine seemed to desperately need…
———————————————————
They were stretched out on the train chairs, the cushioned sofas making a half suitable napping space as Haku got trapped between the wooden partition on the train and the crashed out Cathrine who was using him as a pillow.
Cathrine had her arms around him, snuggled into his chest as she laid between his legs with her favourite jacket draped over her. Haku was fighting sleep as Zenji did everything he could to keep him awake, they didn’t have long left of their journey but the now mini radiator that is Cathrine and the rickety train were sending him to sleep.
He started plaiting Cathrine’s hair, the bee had been watching them as it buzzed around her, seeming to enjoy watching him braid her hair. It consumed his time as they reached Darkwick before he could blink, the train stopping had jostled Cathrine awake as she shot up in a startled state.
“dove sono?” (Where am I?”)
Her owl like gaze met Haku’s perplexed look as she shook her head before sighing as she muttered to herself.
“Sorry-where am I?”
She awkwardly coughed, feeling disorientated after having one of the best naps of her life and slightly embarrassed at the fact it was most likely due to Haku’s presence.
“We’re back at the academy princess…let’s get you home.”
Haku cooed at her bringing a hand to cup her cheek gently as he ran a thumb across her cheek, leaning forward as she watched him slightly mesmerised. He smiled as their faces were inches apart, he couldn’t help himself as he pressed a kiss to her other cheek. His heart hammering as he couldn’t resist giving her another peck as he heard her let out a short gasp at the contact, her eyes fluttering as he pulled her back onto his lap, arms slyly snaking around her as he easily lifted her up and carried her out of the train.
“I can walk Kusa.”
She grumbled but didn’t resist his hold as she tried to look anywhere except at the man currently carrying her. They’ve never fully kissed but he has dotted kisses around her face, it flustered her to no end and she has no idea how to handle it when he starts, she didn’t hate it-in fact she adored it when he did that sort of thing but she just didn’t know what she should do in response…
She sighed as he made his way to the cathedral, obediently carrying her as she tried to check her phone to update Hyde and Romeo that she had gotten back, yet, life was cruel so that meant her phone battery had to be dead. The suitcase was sitting pretty in her lap as they made it to the cathedral, the cold and stress of the situation had drained any energy she had and despite having the best nap of her life, she was still extremely tired and ready for bed; Hyde and Romeo probably have eyes on them anyway and know that they’re back…they’ll just have to wait.
Zenji left them when they got to the cathedral claiming he had to update Subaru with what happened and ensure the other wasn’t too stressed about the situation and he wanted to pop by Mortkranken to see Jiro. Haku nodded gratefully to him as Cathrine leaned out of his hold to unlock the door, she waved goodbye to Zenji who graciously bowed and quickly made his way back, leaving the two alone in the cathedral.
“You can put me down, ya know.”
She folded her arms grumpily as Haku just hummed out a noise of amusement as he started clambering up the stairs, huffing out a laugh at the squeak she let out as a stair creaked a bit too loudly.
He placed her on the bed unceremoniously as she let out a loud oof, before going to grab some pyjamas for her and make some more hot chocolate for the grumpy cat who was sitting cross legged on the bed tracking his every movement.
Cathrine sighed as she got up pattering her way over to Haku unable to sit still if she has nothing to do. Haku who was still trying to chose out what pyjamas he’d like to see Cathrine in, deciding between shorts and one of his stolen jumpers or cute cat joggers with one of his other stolen jumpers.
How she keeps getting them, he’s not sure.
They’re not even the ones he leaves behind, they’re even some of his favourites…
“You staying the night?”
She leaned onto him, pressing her cheek against his shoulder as he smiled down at the girl.
“Should I princess?~”
He sang at her as she reached the shorts and jumper choice before grabbing the left behind hoody and joggers for Haku.
“Sure.”
She yawned as she answered, closing her eyes slightly in a sleepy state.
“Hmmm…I dunno Cat~ you don’t sound too enthused, do you want me to stay?”
She frowned peeking up at him, she chewed at her lip before wrapping her arm around his, humming thoughtfully to herself.
He wanted her to say she wanted him to stay, needed her to say it, almost desperate for her to confirm what they keep dancing around.
“Please stay.”
Her voice quiet and shy as she tried to grapple with the right words.
He wrapped an arm around her, guiding her to face him as he leaned forward pressing a kiss to the crown of her head.
“I’m gonna have a bath and get changed, did you want one as well?”
She asked sighing as she wrapped her arms around his waist as she rested her chin on his chest so she could look up at him, smiling gently.
“Only if we could share…”
She rolled her eyes as she gently pushed him away, trying to hide the widening smile and slight blush as she took the pyjamas and run away to the bathroom.
“No.”
She poked her tongue out to him as she closed the door.
Haku sighed as he quickly got changed and started preparing the drinks.
———————————————————
Cathrine had kept the braids in that Haku had previously done, she was way too tired before her bath to realise what’d he done but as she done her skin care routine (something enforced by Romeo.) A soft smile graced her face as she gently traced a finger over it, humming to herself as she exited out of the bathroom, to see Haku huddled in her covers, a hot chocolate in hand as he patiently waited for her, the chill of the cathedral setting in as she started regretting picking the shorts option. The boss was asleep on the pillows hogging her side of it as Cathrine swiftly made her way over to them.
Haku opened the mini duvet fortress he had created, gesturing for Cathrine to come sit on his lap as she shyly scrambled her way to him.
Haku silently and sleepily grabbed a mug from the side, steam floating from it as he handed it over to her. Cathrine settled herself in his lap as she calmly sipped at her drink, the two settled into a comfortable silence as Haku rested his head on top of hers, drawing shapes on her thighs as she tried to resist crashing out.
She waited to finish her drink before gently pushing Haku down as he flopped onto the mattress, she placed her drink on the side as she collapsed on top of him. She sighed trying to get comfortable as she tossed and turned trying not to let the onslaught of thoughts disturb her, Haku watched her amused before she let out a strangled noise as she dramatically sat up.
“You alright there princess?”
He sat up, lazily dragging her onto his lap as he wrapped his arms around her.
“What happened to bee?”
She spun around, haku’s eyes widening as they become face to face, a slight blush covering his face as he pulled her slightly closer.
“Hmmm…right here pretty.”
He pulled out a bee hair clip from his front pocket, smoothly handing it over to her as she inspected the piece. Bee buzzed happily in her embrace as she looked at Haku confused.
“They saw me playing with your hair and I’m guessing they liked the idea of it?”
He was more than distracted as he dragged his hands across her soft thighs, eyes darting from her lips to her eyes as he tried to concentrate as she started going off on a tangent on the adaptability and evolution of the anomaly, only stopping when she realised he was not listening to a word she said and his hands have somehow made it underneath her shorts, drawing small circles on her thighs as she sighed cupping his face and giggling as a sheepish grin spread across his face.
“You weren’t listening.”
He shook his head, smirking as he slid his hands further up, resting them on her waist and enjoying the way her eyes fluttered at the feeling.
“Sorry princess.”
He murmured leaning forward as he pulled her closer, their noses brushing against eachother as he heard her take a sharp intake of breath.
“You look really pretty when you take about science stuff.”
She snorted at the cheesy line, eyes fluttering shut as he was oh-so near to finally pressing his lips against hers.
Yet, of course life was not on their side as the now half charged phone let out a shrill cry, she knew it would either be Hyde or Romeo so she had to answer. Cathrine sighed leaning away as she grabbed it, Haku groaning as he leaned back stretching his hands over his eyes in exasperation.
He could hear Romeo shrill shouts through the phone as Cathrine dramatically rolled her eyes.
“I’ll bring it to you tomorrow chill, it’s safe it’s fine…no, the anomaly got destroyed.”
The anomaly had made its home in her hair, transforming into a hair pin that slides through the braids, bees and chains decorating it with a snake wrapped around the pin.
She wrapped an arm around Haku’s neck, playing with his hair as she waited for Romeo to finish his monologue….
———————————————————
1 hour and 45 minutes…
Haku was resting his head on Cathrine’s shoulder, half asleep as Cathrine finally finished the phone call. Sighing heavily as she flopped her arms over his shoulder, Haku let out a light cheer as he flipped them over.
Hoovering above her as she looked up at him exhausted.
“Princess…”
He collapsed on top of her, clasping their hands together as his eyelids felt heavy and Cathrine felt insanely soft and warm-it was too tempting to crash out when he so dearly wanted to carry on what they were previously doing before Romeo interrupted.
“Haku…c’mere please”
He tiredly lifted himself up as he stared down at her, she lifted herself up cupping his face as she pressed a light kiss to his lips, she lightly tapped his face as she pulled away.
She flopped back onto the bed, arms wide as a blushing Haku fell into her embrace.
“That’s all I can give you for now Hakuuu, but now I must rest, Romeo said he’ll be here to collect bright & early…we have just two hours to get some sleep.”
Haku let out a low groan of annoyance as he sighed burying himself into Cathrine’s shoulder as sleep came swiftly to the two of them…
When Romeo broke into the cathedral he wasn’t expecting hotarubi’s vice captain cuddling into his explosives expert, he looked at them in disgust as he brushed a hand through the Boss’ fur before he swiftly yanked the covers off the two.
“Noooooooooo~”
Cathrine threw a pillow at Romeo as Haku continued to sleep on top of her.
“Where’s the brief case BB?”
She lazily pointed a finger to the kitchen, Romeo leaving her to the cold as he marched over taking the briefcase and checking over the contents. His gaze flickering back over to the pathetic display as Cathrine struggled to grab the covers back.
“You have strange taste in men.”
He announced grabbing the covers and tossing it over the two.
“Shut up, like you don’t?”
She shot back, grouchy from being awoken so early as Romeo simply rolled his eyes and briskly left leaving a very annoyed Cathrine as she tried to cuddle into Haku and crash out once again, she was just about to fall asleep when…
“GOOD MORNING DEAR LOVE BIRDS, MY HEART SINGS AT THE SIGHT OF THE TWO ENTWINED…”
Zenji cried out as he flew through her window, both Haku and Cathrine cried out as they were fully awoken by the insanely loud wake up call that is Zenji.

Bad Situations ❄️ - trapped outside in a blizzard / snowstorm
It feels like being plunged into a bucket of ice, the second they pass through the ley-line, and his first thought is FUCK as ice finds its way against his neck and down the line of his back, and cold starts dampening his socks at the ankles. The second is immediate regret. Fuck--- fuck, why'd he ask Sal to come with him?
Not that she can't handle it, probably. Honestly she might be fine in the cold? Given some of her abilities as a death knight, it'd make sense. A body can get used to being in frigid temperatures too, if properly trained, and she spent a fair time in Icecrown and other frozen wastes. So really, this might be nothing to her.
Of course, that point might also be moot, given her status at the time was kind of....dead to the left.
Shaking his head, he focuses on their situation. He'd found something supernatural might be going on, since he'd heard about weird anomalies like wailing and something humanoid with long white hair that seemed to drift above the ground, approaching hikers at higher elevations in the mountains. He had invited Salena as a precaution since the data was vague, with the intent they'd either find nothing, or deal with whatever it was before things escalated too much. There had been mentions of some cold spots, but that was par for the course for some entities. And the mountain wasn't high enough to even see snow. He packed a thicker jacket in his bag, just in case, but there wasn't any evidence there'd be anything like this.
And they'd used the gas station ley-line for pain-free travel. Because they weren't trying to cross to Cadence exactly, they weren't guaranteed to land at the door of another ley-line when they were spit out. Which means they had to be near one, but that could be anywhere in at least a mile or two radius from here. And right now, the whole area was blanketed in deep snow, that definitely shouldn't be here.
So... priority one couldn't be an immediate exit. It had to be shelter. But that meant they were stuck here, not fully prepared for weather like this, given he hadn't found any info on any storms in the area. His skin tingled, both from cold ice brushing against his exposed arm, and where snow pelted the basin of his hoodie, but also with something electric. There was no doubt this wasn't a naturally occurring storm. Whatever was around here could be causing it.
Not that they could do anything about that, now.
"Salena!" He yells, so his voice carries over howling wind. He can see flakes already caked to his lashes, and frosting the tips of his hair. "Can you make a portal back?!"
#rp#salena#ask meme answers#Snowed In#bad situation meme#talesofnovembria#so i was thinking! maybe it's some kind of creature (probably spirit based) that can manipulate the weather obviously#but also maybe one that's strong enough to basically block magic from being cast by others in the area? so they can't just like- pop out lo#and have to contend with the situation itself#artair does have some supplies in his bag and since it's coming in already magic it might work but they could work together to surivive#and then deal with the entity in whatever way we think is best xD#ic Artair

The Last Star
It happened on the night of August fifth last year. Or, more likely, it started long before that, but it was first noticed that fateful night. The sky was clear, and those with a passion for charting the galaxies had their sights up.
I was among those few, glancing off at the many constellations that freckled our atmosphere. It was a night unlike any other—a clear view of the heavens across the horizon. Every single one of the countless stars had been up there, blazing away at us.
Or so we thought.
Nearly two hours into that particular night, one of the stations on the other side of the country called to tell us that a star in the Orion constellation had all but disappeared with no warning. We chalked it up to poor eyes or poor weather conditions until we found the same through our own telescope.
The middle star of his belt had gone missing.
We all had realized the truth at that moment: the death of the star, Alnilam, had taken two thousand light years to make its display in the Earth’s night sky. Maybe the most notable of stars to have gone missing in the history of astronomy.
And so we prepared statements and bulletins discussing what we knew about the blue star, and not long after headed home to enjoy some sleep for the rest of the night. Come the next morning, the world would know of Orion’s missing belt buckle.
And so it was. The Greek hunter no longer had a way to hold his pants steady, and astronomy was in the public eye for nearly a week. All the while, nothing notable had happened, curled away each night in our observatories.
That was, until the second star in the belt disappeared. On a cosmic scale, an event like this was unheard of. Even my wife had an interest in what we had to say. A fluke? A mystery? One destroying the other? It was impossible to know for sure. But Mintaka was the one that remained, furthest west, and stayed in the night sky for the moment.
Another week had passed, and after extensive scannings of the sky, our computer printed out a very interesting display highlighting a string of anomalies nobody was prepared to see. The two stars of Orion’s Belt were far from the only masses missing in the night sky. There were a potential forty gone, each having been there a previous night and a previous year and a previous million years, but gone the next.
This research had been done to view the true rate at which stars died out, and in a sky of roughly 4,500 stars at any given moment, forty disappearing was worrying.
Our friends in the southern hemisphere had reported findings almost the same. None of the other major constellations had missing stars yet, but a cluster most visible from the South Pole had gone inky over the span of three days.
There was a long conference I attended that would normally have been way above my pay grade discussing the implications of this and whether the public should know. Worst-case scenarios were a dime a dozen, spelling out everything from aliens harvesting hydrogen to the universe dying out abruptly. In the end, it didn’t matter what decision the talking heads came to, as it was leaked the next morning to the presses.
Despite the talk from politicians, words from experts, and cries of the end times, the stars kept on pace, and we lost anywhere between ten and forty a night from the hemispheres. Sometimes it was random, and other times clustered. The moment we thought of a potential cause, a set of stars would disappear that threw the theory out the window. I don’t even remember when we lost Mintaka.
And so it continued. We woke to our new normal, after having seen less than one hundred in the sky last night, and sat waiting on the front porch outside. It’s all anyone could bother to do anymore. I sat for three hours with my wife, trying to find a way to stare at Her. The sun.
It would be my last chance.
The light flickered at first, as if an eclipse were happening, before completely consuming us in darkness. At the same moment, the Earth shifted beneath our feet, tottering us a little.
Complete and utter darkness welcomed my eyes. A darkness you could not adjust to. One that knew what sort of somber, lethal change it brought. As the air grew colder, I scanned around, unsure if anything was out there, and found my wife’s hands, embracing her deeply. We had long been prepared for the moment. It was almost peaceful.
And then I saw it. There was one last star. If I hadn’t known any better, I might have thought it was the North Star, or any star of significance to us. One given a name or constellation. But it was just as likely to be nameless.
It hadn’t winked out yet when my eyes closed, and they stayed that way, savoring one last victory over the empty Universe before the cold became too much.

ALLATRA: READ THIS TILL THE END!!!
Planet Earth, our common home, is cracking at the seams under the pressure of the climate crisis. Record temperatures, deadly fires, devastating floods - these are all signals that we are on the brink of a climate catastrophe.
But there is a ray of hope - ALLATRA International Public Movement, which has become the voice of reason and action in the fight to save the planet.
ALLATRA - A Bridge to Unity:
ALLATRA, a non-profit organization that unites people from all over the world in the name of creation and peace, is actively working to combat the climate crisis.
ALLATRA doesn't just warn, it acts!
Global Partnership and Dialogue:
Last month, the President of ALLATRA engaged in a constructive dialogue with Pope Francis, discussing climate change.
She presented him with the climate report 'On The Progression Of Climatic Disasters On Earth And Their Catastrophic Consequences'.
This is a clear testament to ALLATRA entering into open dialogue with world leaders, seeking to draw attention to the critical nature of the situation.
Scientific Data and Facts:
Recent data on rising sea temperatures in New Zealand clearly demonstrates the acceleration of climate change.
Sea water temperatures in New Zealand have risen twice as fast as the global average over the past 20 years. The Guardian reported this.
Previous marine heat waves have already been linked to mass bleaching of sea sponges in New Zealand, the extinction of southern brown algae, mass fish stranding, and penguin deaths.
This may be related to the presence of the giant mantle superplume Hikurangi, which triggers increased seismic and volcanic activity in the New Zealand region. The North Island sits on the largest volcanic outpouring on Earth. Scientists also note the uplift of the ground above the magma reservoir of the Taupo supervolcano, which is caused by the approaching magma to the surface.
As some scientists have pointed out, we need to be sure that we are all well-informed, so that we can push the powers that be to make decisions that will benefit our planet.
This issue arises from the facts and observations of people concerned about the future of humanity. Every day, millions witness natural disasters, weather records, and natural anomalies. What’s next…?
Such facts and observations are forcing ALLATRA to sound the alarm, calling on the entire world to take action.
Seeking Solutions and The Creative Society:
ALLATRA is not limited to warnings. It offers specific solutions based on scientific analysis and social practices. The Partner Project The Creative Society is a concept of living in harmony with nature and with each other.

Earth Records 12 Consecutive Months of Unprecedented Heat, Marking a Staggering Climate Change Milestone
Experts unanimously agree that human-caused climate change is primarily responsible for the rising temperatures, but a complex mix of additional factors has created a perfect storm of heat.
According to European scientists, May 2024 marked the twelfth consecutive month of record-warm temperatures for the planet, as announced on Wednesday. This represents the second-longest streak of such records, based on data from the Copernicus Climate Change Service.
“It is shocking but not surprising that we have reached this 12-month streak," stated Carlo Buontempo, director of the Copernicus Climate Change Service. "While this sequence of record-breaking months will eventually be interrupted, the overall signature of climate change remains, and there is no sign in sight of a change in such a trend.”
Weather Forecast For Iowa:
This new milestone is even more alarming than the record set in January, which identified 2023 as the hottest year on record. That meant the calendar year was the hottest overall, with many—but not all—months setting records. Now, for an entire year, every month has been the hottest ever recorded.
While Earth experiencing high temperatures is not new—our planet has seen over 550 consecutive months with temperatures above the 20th-century average—this uninterrupted run of all-time temperature records starting in June 2023 is particularly unusual, perplexing, and concerning.
For the past 12 months, our planet has experienced unprecedented levels of heat. Climate scientists, speaking to USA TODAY, attribute this relentless warmth primarily to human-caused climate change. However, they also express a degree of confusion and concern regarding the consistent breaking of temperature records. While human activities remain the main driver of this trend, scientists acknowledge the influence of various other factors.
Zachary Labe from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) highlighted some of these factors, including the pattern of sea-surface temperatures in the equatorial region of the Pacific Ocean, known as El Niño and La Niña, as well as volcanic eruptions, changes in aerosol emissions, and solar activity from the sun.
While some of these factors may fluctuate, providing temporary relief from record heat, the underlying issue persists. Labe emphasized, "The primary reason for this remarkable stretch of record-breaking warmth around the world is due to human-caused climate change."
Several factors have converged to create a perfect storm of heat over the past year, intensifying the already elevated temperatures of a warming world. While some are natural cycles inherent in the planet's climate, others represent scientific anomalies that have puzzled researchers.
Climate and Average Weather Year Round in Idaho:
https://www.behance.net/gallery/196212927/Weather-Forecast-for-Idaho
One significant contributor to global temperature spikes is El Niño, a natural phenomenon characterized by the warming of tropical Pacific Ocean waters. El Niño not only elevates global temperatures but also alters weather patterns worldwide. The recent occurrence of a strong El Niño, often referred to as a "super El Niño," played a role in driving up global temperatures in 2023, resulting in the warmest year on record since the late 1800s when accurate weather records began.
Zeke Hausfather, a scientist at Berkeley Earth, explained via email to USA TODAY that while the primary driver of the recent extreme warmth is the significant El Niño event coupled with the long-term warming trend caused by human activities, there remains some mystery surrounding the unprecedented warmth observed in the summer and fall of 2023. This anomaly occurred before the current El Niño event had fully developed, leaving scientists seeking further explanations.
Shipping regulations may have inadvertently contributed to warming, according to some experts, creating a perplexing situation in the fight against climate change.
The theory posits that efforts to reduce shipping pollution by switching to cleaner fuels in 2020 may have had unintended consequences, potentially exacerbating warming. As ships adopted cleaner fuels with lower sulfur content, the reduction in pollutants led to clearer skies over the oceans. This, in turn, allowed for more sunlight to penetrate the atmosphere and warm both the oceans and the air at a faster rate.
Carbon Brief, an online climate news site, reported last year that the reduction in sulfur content weakened the masking effect of pollutants, effectively amplifying warming. Consequently, any anticipated long-term benefits of adopting less-polluting fuels may have been overshadowed by the immediate impact of accelerated ocean warming.

https://weatherusa.app/zip-code/weather-35035
However, not all experts agree with this theory. Michael Mann, a meteorologist at the University of Pennsylvania, dismissed the notion as unfounded. He argued that attributing increased warming to new shipping restrictions lacks support from mainstream climate research.
The eruption of the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai volcano in Tonga in January 2022 may have had some residual impact on recent warmth, but experts are divided on its significance.
Meteorologist Michael Lowry suggested that the increase in stratospheric water vapor resulting from the volcanic eruption could have been a contributing factor to the record warmth. However, Michael Mann disagrees, citing recent peer-reviewed research by Andrew Dessler and colleagues from Texas A&M University. According to Mann, this research indicates that the Hunga Tonga eruption might have even caused a slight global cooling effect.
Mann emphasizes that the primary drivers of the current warmth are ongoing human-caused warming trends, combined with the influence of a significant El Niño event. In his view, attributing the warmth solely to these factors is straightforward and does not require consideration of the volcanic eruption.
Despite various explanations proposed by scientists, the extreme warmth experienced over the past year remains somewhat puzzling.
Zeke Hausfather expressed this sentiment, highlighting factors such as the unusual behavior of El Niño, changes in marine fuel sulfur content, the Tonga eruption, and fluctuations in the 11-year solar cycle. However, even when considered together, these factors do not fully account for the magnitude of the record-breaking temperatures observed last year.
See more: https://devpost.com/software/weather-forecast-for-north-dakota
Zachary Labe also acknowledged the complexity of the recent warmth, noting that it will be a focal point of scientific investigation in the coming year. He emphasized the need to understand the contributions of these factors to the unprecedented warmth of 2023 and 2024. Labe anticipates that ongoing research will shed more light on this issue, suggesting that the combined effects of various factors may have intensified the warming trend observed atop the long-term climate change trajectory.

A Look at Snow Totals in Voorhees, NJ and Deptford, NJ
For many of us living in snowy climes, the arrival of winter forecasts poses a powerful question mark over the next few months. Faced with the potential for inches, or even feet, of snow, how can we prepare, and what should we expect? This is particularly pertinent in locales with notably varied and sometimes extreme winter weather, such as Voorhees, NJ, and Deptford, NJ, where snowfall is not just a meteorological event, but a pivotal part of the community's annual narrative.
From the anticipated flurry of routines that change with snow days to the intricacies of snow removal engineering, understanding snowfall isn't just about looking back; it's crucial for looking forward, both in preparation and policy. Local residents turn an analytic eye to weather stats and reports, seeking patterns and predictions to guide their actions. In response, we’ve rounded up snowfall data, historical context, and community perspectives to paint a comprehensive picture of how snow totals deeply impact our local lives.
Understanding Snow Totals
Snowfall—measured in inches or centimeters—is more than the scenic draping of white over trees; it informs a cascade of reactions, from the pragmatic to the celebratory. But what causes these winter cascades? Snow is the product of precipitation in cold weather. Atmospheric elements must combine in just the right way to form those crystalline structures. The method by which we calculate snowfall is a combination of art, math, and science, fittingly called “snow water equivalent,” which translates the depth of fallen snow into the amount of water it would displace.
Yet, despite meticulous measurements, snowfall can be notoriously difficult to predict. Why? Mainly because its creation requires several layers of specific atmospheric conditions, all subject to subtle shifts. This means one city can be dusted with light snow while another is blanketed in a heavy sheet.
Within the microclimates of snow total Voorhees NJ and Deptford, variables such as distance from water bodies, elevation, and temperature inversion play roles that residents, businesses, and local governments respect. Precise forecasts matter; botch that anticipation, and you risk incidents from a surprise snowstorm.
Historical Snowfall Data
Over the last decade, snowfall has carved a varied portrait in these two cities. Voorhees, a suburb west of Boston, and Deptford, a modest drive south from New York City, have both seen their fair share of wintry weather. However, they exhibit a stark contrast in their annual snow averages, underscoring the distinct experiences of regional climate.
Voorhees, nestled close to the freezing waters of the Atlantic Ocean, has experienced an average annual snowfall of 57 inches, while Deptford, positioned further inland, tallies a more moderate 25 inches. These numbers reflect not just a geographical ‘snow shadow’ but a tale of local climates shaped by their position relative to major waterways and topographical features. Ironically for some, the less snowy backdrop of Deptford may be a conscious choice over its more northeasterly competitor.
Yet within these averages, the meticulous observer will spot anomalies and emerging patterns. In Voorhees, for instance, there's an unmistakable increase in heavy snowstorms over the years, likely tied to the warming of ocean waters, which fuels more turbulent atmospheric conditions. Meanwhile, Deptford's consistency is testimony to the inland control of its climate, a stable (relatively speaking) canvas for predictable snow patterns.
Impact on Daily Life
Looking out the window at a white landscape can elicit a mixture of emotions, but it also heralds concrete changes to daily life. The private and public spheres alike must adjust when snow sweeps into town. Schools close, public transport halts, and local businesses prepare for fluctuating demand. The battle cry for snowplows and shovels is sounded, as roads and sidewalks become battlegrounds against the isolating nature of deep snow.
The impact of snow isn't just felt in the hassle of the morning commute. Lurking beneath the snow banks are potential hazards that, if left unattended, can disrupt life for days. The headache of navigating roads around piles of snow morph into the dire scuffle against potential flooding as the snow melts, itself a would-be antagonist were it not for diligent preparations. In Voorhees, where higher snowfall is more common, the community orchestration of tackling these challenges is a well-rehearsed symphony, with local heroes stepping forward during each act.
Preparation and Response
In these communities, the narrative of snow is not just experienced passively—it's a dialogue, an improvisational drama. Meteorologists, public works departments, emergency responders, local officials, and residents are all part of the cast, and their roles are as rigorously rehearsed as they are subject to sudden changes. Preparing for snowfalls isn't simply a checklist; it's a cultural benchmark, an immutable event that binds neighbors and authorities in common cause.
In Voorhees, for example, routine winterizing includes not only stocking up on supplies but also checking in with neighbors, especially the elderly and infirm, to ensure their safety. Meanwhile, in Deptford, the focus lies in equipping and training emergency response teams for snow-related incidents, despite the lessened regularity of such occurrences. The key understands that while snow may fall and accumulate, the risks related to it are what communities must collectively reflect upon and mitigate before the first flake takes flight.
Community Engagement
What's an annual snowstorm if not an opportunity for shared experiences and enduring memories? Within these communities, the individual stories of snow days weave a tapestry of resilience, camaraderie, and the simple joy of a common obstacle overcome. Whether it's the impromptu sledding competitions in Voorhees or the snow-clearing volunteers in Deptford, the community's response to its weather is a testament to the very fabric that unites it.
Residents of Voorhees and snow total Deptford NJ have learned, through snowfall, to listen to their environment and each other, to adapt and to overcome. From business owners who must adjust their hours to families who transform snow into art and recreation, every snowflake is an opportunity for the community to flex its collective muscle, remind itself of its cohesion, and demonstrate its triumph over adversity.
Looking to the Future
Rising temperatures are reshaping the climate, yet the long arm of snowfall still reaches across our landscape with its fundamental impacts. How we measure and manage this snow, as well as how we brace ourselves for its unpredictable nature, will continue to be a barometer not just of meteorological conditions, but also of our community's resiliency.
The coming years aren't just about dealing with the snow we've already predicted. They're about preparing for the changes in the patterns we've come to expect. With a thoughtful eye towards historical data and a proactive stance on response and mitigation, Voorhees, Deptford, and other snow-burdened cities can continue not just to weather winter, but to thrive within it.

trying to request a ride for half an hour but still no driver has picked up the order, the driver looking down and finding that the order assigned
the passenger, discovering that the system is abnormal and trying to cancel the order but still can't...
Of course, some drivers also encountered an "unexpected surprise": they woke up after a night's rest and found that the HE Tuber income in their account exceeded 60 billion... You know, Cheng Wei's total personal wealth whenwent public was only 29 billion.
If Didi’s outage remains popular because online ride-hailing is very close to people’s lives and is used frequently, then the impact of the large-scale Alibaba Cloud outage on November 12 is even worse. Already: Alibaba’s Alipay, Taobao, DingTalk, and Alibaba Cloud Disk are indispensable applications for mobile payment, online shopping, online office, and cloud storage scenarios respectively.
When these applications are all paralyzed, people’s work, life, and Shopping may have to be paused.
What is even more worrying is that on November 27, Alibaba Cloud's cloud database console in some regions experienced access anomalies again, only half a month after the large-scale outage on the 12th. Two outages occurred in a short period of time, which is a serious problem for the entire cloud computing industry.
Even if the timeline is further relaxed, outages among major Internet companies have occurred quite frequently in the first half of this year.
On March 29, QQ and WeChat failed one after another, and many functions such as payment, voice calls, Moments, and QQ Space were used abnormally. Tencent characterized this as a first-level accident, including Lu Shan, President of the Technology Engineering Business Group, and WeChat Business Group Several senior executives, including Vice President Zhou Hao, were criticized internally. Coincidentally, Vipshop also suffered a P0 level outage on the same day, and the head of the basic platform department was dismissed as a result.
Secondly, the simultaneous occurrence of frequent outages, long-term cost reduction, efficiency improvement, and large-scale layoffs inevitably makes people suspect that there is some subtle connection between the two.
To judge whether this statement is reasonable, we must first understand the cause of the cloud server outage.
Generally speaking, the reasons for server downtime can be divided into two categories. One is human failure, such as system failure, design loopholes, and short-term overload operation. The other is non-human factors such as extreme weather and temporary power outages in the area. The outages of Vipshop, Tencent and Alibaba Cloud are typical human faults. The direct cause of the three incidents is that the abnormality of the cooling system in the computer room caused the equipment temperature to heat up rapidly. This is also the most common cause of failure in the industry.
Generally speaking, no or non-human factors can be completely avoided, disaster recovery and disaster preparedness plans are necessary. Alibaba Cloud also admitted in its subsequent response that the failure to handle the accident site in a timely manner caused the sprinkler system to be triggered, and the failure to release fault information in a timely manner were important reasons for amplifying the impact of the outage.
It was this response that led some people in the industry to uncover problems: downsizing staff
laying off high-paid senior programmers, and relying too much on young people. no emergency and preventive measures such as dual-machine hot backup plans, backup computer rooms, and multi-node clusters. , are one of the reasons for exacerbating the impact of downtime - and are also the sequelae of cost reduction and efficiency improvement.
In response to the above speculation, major manufacturers have not responded positively, but there may be no reason for the groundless speculation. And coincidentally, Didi, which just experienced a "frightening night", also experienced a round of layoffs last year involving almost all departments such as product technology and ride-hailing teams. It is reported that the number of employees involved is about 3,000, and the proportion is as high as 25%. .
One thing is certain: senior technicians not only have guaranteed professional skills, they can identify system vulnerabilities more accurately and quickly, and have more experience in handling on-site faults. Frequent outages are believed to have made major manufacturers realize the importance of improving infrastructure, increasing disaster recovery and
preparedness plans, and cultivating high-end technical talents. However, the impact of two consecutive years of cost reduction and efficiency improvement and several downtimes on its reputation, as well as the negative impact on customers and upstream and downstream partners in the industry chain, may be difficult to completely eliminate. It is still unknown whether major manufacturers will change their cost reduction and efficiency improvement policies as a result.
3. In 2024, can cost reduction and efficiency improvement come to an end?
The impact of cost reduction and efficiency improvement by large manufacturers on customers and partners is multifaceted.
First of all, of course, downtime events seriously affect the daily operations of corporate customers, especially those small and medium-sized enterprises that do not have the financial resources to make their own disaster preparedness and emergency plans.

After analyzing the temperature data from 2023, NASA has concluded that it was the hottest year on record. This will surprise almost nobody. If you live in one of the regions stricken by drought, forest fires, or unusually powerful weather, you don’t need NASA to confirm that the planet is warming. NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies produced the analysis that led to this conclusion. They looked at temperature anomalies rather than strictly at temperatures. Temperature anomalies show how much hotter or colder than normal it is at a specific place and time. In this case, normal means the average over a 30-year period between 1951 and 1980 for a time and place. The analysis, which makes use of extensive satellite data, showed that 2023 was the hottest year on record. In fact, every month from June to December 2023 was the hottest month compared to the same months in previous years. Not only that, but July was the hottest month ever recorded. This image shows the global temperature anomalies for July 2023. Image Credit: NASA’s Scientific Visualization Studio How much hotter was 2023? “Global temperatures in 2023 were around 2 degrees Fahrenheit (1.1 degrees Celsius) above the average for NASA’s baseline period (1951-1980),” NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) said. Anyone who follows news from around the world knows the world is facing more severe weather. In the USA, a mega-drought meant that parts of the Southwest suffered from a water shortage. Reservoirs were reduced to historically low levels. In Canada, massive, numerous, and stubborn forest fires dominated the summer, with smoke moving south and enshrouding some of America’s largest cities for days. Many of those fires are still burning as zombie fires that will spring back to life after this winter. The Donnie Creek fire of 2023 in British Columbia, Canada, was the largest-ever fire in that province. It covered over 600,000 hectares. Image Credit: BC Wildfire Service. In Asia, a record-breaking heat wave struck India, China, Vietnam, and other countries. In India, major cities exceeded 45 Celsius, schools and other places were shutdown, and rolling blackouts, triggered by air conditioner use, made things even worse. In the desert kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the temperatures reached 49 C in some places. In Europe, the Cerberus Heatwave brought temperatures above 40 C to many countries, including Spain, where temperatures reached 45 C. Hundreds of millions of us faced extreme temperatures during the summer of 2023. Millions of us watched helplessly as forest fire smoke clouded our skies and damaged our lungs. Farmers struggled, and food prices rose. But climate change isn’t just about heat, smoke, and fire. It’s also about extreme rainfall, flooding, and hurricanes. Whatever the consequences, it’s not something humanity has seen before. “The exceptional warming that we’re experiencing is not something we’ve seen before as a species,” said Gavin Schmidt, director of GISS. “It’s driven primarily by our fossil fuel emissions, and we’re seeing the impacts in heat waves, intense rainfall, and coastal flooding.” Most of what the Earth is going through is due to human-caused climate change. But other things still contribute to the climate, like El Nino and El Nina. Climate scientists consider all these things when trying to understand what’s happening. This image shows how the El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) affects global temperatures. There are three phases in the South Pacific’s ENSO: El Niño, La Niña, and neutral, or average. El Nino is a weakening of trade winds that blow from east to west in the South Pacific, allowing the sea surface to warm up and rise. La Nina is the opposite: the winds become stronger, and sea temperatures become cooler than normal. La Nina can help offset some of the effects of climate change, but only temporarily. Image Credit: NASA But we have no control over El Nino. Our carbon emissions are the only thing we have control over. Vegetation and the oceans only absorb about 50% of our emissions, and the rest persists in the atmosphere. This visualization shows the atmosphere in three dimensions and highlights the accumulation of CO2 during a single calendar year. It’s not just Earth’s atmosphere that warms. Our oceans absorb most of the heat trapped by greenhouse gases, about 90% of it. The oceans are a gigantic heat sink, and they’ll continue to warm as the atmosphere does. That changes the biochemistry and the overall health of the oceans and also accelerates the melting of our major ice sheets. “Just like global temperatures, ocean temperatures are on the rise,” said Josh Willis, a climate scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. “They have been rising for the last century or more, and they are not slowing down. If anything, they are speeding up.” This image shows anomalies in the sea surface temperature. These temperatures reached new record highs in 2023. Image Credit: NASA. The world will keep warming for the next several decades or more, no matter what changes we make today. But the future is still in play. Scientists still need as much detailed climate data as we can gather, even though we know we’re responsible for the warming world. We can still prepare for the worst of it while developing and implementing solutions. “We are very interested in the weather and extremes of any particular year because those are the things that impact us,” said GISS Director Schmidt. “But the key difference between this decade and the ones before is that the temperatures keep rising because of our activities, principally the burning of fossil fuels.” NASA’s results show the future we face. More heatwaves, more devastating forest fires, more pressure on agriculture and food prices, and a bleak future for some of the world’s poorest people. But it’s not foreordained. There are solutions, and they’re being implemented. Renewable energy use is on the rise, for example, and people around the world are demanding that governments implement more changes. And while arcane scientific arguments about atmospheric chemistry and physics are not that impactful for many people, extreme heat is a much more effective alarm bell. So are the things that extreme heat brings, like flooding, fire, smoke, heat waves, rising sea levels, and higher food prices. Let’s hope the next generations and the politicians that accompany them don’t keep pressing the snooze button like we have. The Camden Cloud
In 2017, a bizarre weather anomaly descended on Camden, London causing mass confusion.
Possibly as a result of the forgotten invasion, evidence for which only exists in the form of destroyed monuments and data-scraped social media posts, a cloud of some kind descended on the London Borough of Camden, with the public inundating the emergency services and met office with bizarre calls about strange happenings within the cloud. Ghosts, aliens, missing time, excess time - all kinds of paranormal activity was reported, and then abruptly stopped. By plotting the reports on a chart, it became apparent that people in inner London lost or gained roughly eight months relative to the rest of the world.
Coincidentally, perhaps, Torchwood began operating in Cardiff again for the first time in eight years. Cardiff is believed by some to be built atop some kind of space-time rift. There are also rumours of a Torchwood office in London that is built near a similar anomaly. Could these rifts be responsible?
Of course, the mass media and the government deny all of this and place the blame on a form of mass-hysteria. Isn't that excuse getting a little dry by now? If you believe the government, large pockets of the UK fall into a state of delusional hysteria almost every year.

bark /bɑːk/ noun; archaic・literary a ship or boat.
With the formalities out of the way, Laniaitte ushered Sora and Yiune into a treetop house with a great view of the rolling clouds on the horizon, which also served as the command room for the Rose Knights. In the middle of the cozy interior was a large rectangular table covered with a map. Some charting equipment scattered across the surface with a handful of dried leaves, the latter which Laniaitte swept off to the ground with a graceful wave.
“I shall get straight to the point,” Laniaitte began, moving a chess piece to the only other aetheryte marked on the map. “Even without the threat of the primal Bismarck, we have been maintaining the peaceful relationship with the Vanu Vanu tribes in the Ok’ Zundu village. ’Tis an oath I swore to Ser Syndrei when he came and aided my brethren to end the thousand-year bloodbath—and one I will keep at all costs, with my pride as both a knight of Ishgard and a member of House Haillenarte. And that I did.”
Laniaitte then shifted the pawn towards a small floating island marked with a red scarf. “The Redbills, however, is another story. Though their contributions to stop the ancient voidsent Diabolos from destroying the world were no small feats, these pirates view modus operandi like a poison to the freedom of the clear skies they seek.”
“So they prefer to stay in the gray,” Sora murmured, nodding slowly as she listened to Laniaitte. “A color that’s neither black nor white, its shade changing freely along the spectrum as they see fit.”
Shadows stretched across the room as the sun began to set, the rays streaming through the windows and lighting up the world map with a fiery glow. “Your brother had assured me that the Redbills were no threat—and I am more than happy to keep the current status quo. Aside from coming down to our camp to purchase supplies from time to time, we do not meddle in each other’s affairs unless absolutely necessary.” Laniaitte moved the chessman to a white space marked with an X. “Until this.”
Crossing her arms before her, the lady commander gazed out of the window, the solemn expression on her refined face plain in the setting sun. “Umbral wind is a common occurrence here in the Abalathia’s Spine, but the weather has suddenly taken for the worse in recent times.”
“Something unnatural must have happened,” Sora reasoned, her eyes locked onto the spot marked on the map. “And you believe that the cause is located there?”
“It began when the Redbills came to us one day about a strange sighting,” Laniaitte turned to face the young envoy and replied. “At first, they thought that the Void Ark was reactivated by unknown forces and moved on its own. They flew to the site where the Mhach ships were originally located and found no signs of foul play. Then, the Vanu Vanu tribes from Ok’ Zundu came to us about the story of ‘Tirpitz,’ an entity they believed to be related to Bismarck.”
“And you think they might be connected in some ways?”
Sighing, Laniaitte picked up a spyglass and twirled it in her hands. “I admit that I was skeptical about tall tales—I told my men to stay vigilant, and they were to report to me immediately if they notice any anomalies. It was a moon later when we finally saw it.”
“I-It?” Emmanellain spluttered, accidentally spilling some tea down his front. He had been watching the lady captain silently with unfocused eyes the whole time, and Laniaitte had forgotten that he was even in the room. “What… did you see?”
“The Howling Bark.”
Laniaitte smirked at the fear on Emmanellain’s pale face. She then kicked open a chest and pulled out some fur coats. “It’s going to be a long night, so I suggest that you all should keep yourselves warm. An umbral snowstorm usually accompanies its appearance.”
Sora’s face wrinkled at the winter clothes that Yiune was helping her to put on. “Well, I guess we aren’t able to escape the Ishgardian cold, after all.”

Ocean water temperatures around Maritimes reaching record highs for July
A remarkable warming of ocean waters this July has some of the Atlantic marine districts reaching record highs.
Data provided by Peter Galbraith, a research scientist with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO), shows the average sea surface temperature in July is reaching record highs for eastern areas of the Grand Banks, the waters off the South Shore of Nova Scotia, and parts of the Bay of Fundy.
The waters off the South Shore of Nova Scotia, including parts of Lahave Bank and the Scotian Slope, are particularly remarkable. There the expected average for July 2023 is 17.4 C. That currently exceeds the standing record of 15.5 C set in 2022 by nearly 2 degrees. The Bay of Fundy is sitting at 14.85 C which is just over the record of 14.81 C set in 2022.
There has been a marked turnaround in sea surface temperature anomaly from June to July for our ocean areas. While North Atlantic water temperatures were found to be at record highs in June most of our marine districts were actually sitting at or slightly below average for the month. Now halfway through July, according to data from the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Association and DFO, most of those districts are sitting at 1 to 4 degrees above the monthly average.
What is the cause of the turnaround? According to Peter Galbraith sea surface temperatures in the western Atlantic are primarily influenced by atmospheric conditions, in other words, the weather.
From June into July the northern hemisphere has experienced several stagnant ridges in the jet stream. Those ridges have allowed heat domes to form allowing for extreme heat that has broken records in the southern US, southern Europe, and parts of the Middle East and Asia.
While the Maritimes isn’t under one of those heat domes we have had a persistent ridge that has run up the eastern seaboard of the US and north of Atlantic Canada. That has allowed for a persistent southerly flow in the atmosphere moving very warm, humid air up from the subtropical Atlantic. The presence of that subtropical air warms the surface waters under it.
Waters could cool in the event of a cooler round of air arriving or, in the case of near coastal waters, a strong storm to create upwelling. Upwelling is the movement of cooler water at depth toward the surface. Neither of those scenarios look likely over the next several days and so the expectation is that by the end of July, our ocean waters will continue to be well above climate averages.
