#this is a vague post about some hydrangeas I saw and also about our neighbor’s blackberry bush just going ham #blackberries all over the hostas in the grass in the wood chips no sign of stopping #thinking about those trees that experience superfruiting events en masse on purpose to such numbers #that it just satiates all predators / threats to the seeds being sewn. so much that it is literally impossible for none to be successful #we watched a video about it in a bio lecture once in college and I cannot remember which species it was #but it was so much that the squirrel population had like. circular boom/bust years where way too many squirrels would be born #but the trees wouldn’t do another superfruit for years. which then created squirrel bust years #creatures just experiencing stuff I guess

I find the way that BBC Merlin set up Merlin's powers in the first episode to be quite funny. I mean, we see this sort of lanky guy and it is established that he is Merlin and (according to our own common knowledge) therefore he is the most powerful warlock ever. Okay, cool. One might assume that he has come to Gaius to develop his powers, that maybe he's only in the beginning of his magical journey. But instead the exposition shows Merlin, in the pilot episode of this 5 series show, stop time and employ levitation to save someone's life with magic, and then it is announced that prince Arthur is essentially his soulmate, and their joint power will create the most glorious age Camelot has ever seen. Quite an exciting set-up. And then for the rest of the entire show this man who we know possesses TIME-ALTERING POWERS mostly uses them on-screen to do common chores and annoy and prank THAT SAME Arthur. Like that one post said, "All of it's destiny and all of it's his fault." :p

#i also think something tragic comes out of this #he thought things would go as destiny said they would so he did not really try to contradict arthur at all #also poor morgana - but that's a whole other topic #perpetuating repressed queerphobia metaphor? never #he is set up as an almost-god almighty and loving and kind #and both merlin and us imagine this beautiful kingdom #but then even when arthur is king nothing really changes #and it's for many factors one of which is that nothing changes without a fight (queer metaphor? never)#and another is just the heartbreaking fact that merlin is too compassionate for radical action #merlin loves arthur in one way or another #but still his love doesn't compete with his kindness #so at least firstly he can't bring himself to sacrifice someone in the present for an abstract future arthur #a god cannot afford to be too kind #especially not when it comes to time #and even in the pilot his godly powers are attached to a kindness #an obvious one like saving a life #but still a kindness that perhaps not everyone would have employed #bbc merlin #merthur #i'm sorry merlin - you deserved more

They are gentle creatures. And many are very endangered.”#don't get me wrong here; I love this scene a lot. LWJ's string technique is one of my favoyrite things.#We do get a fair amount of LWJ fighting but I always loved how the theme of strings comes into play.#There is actually a lot to unpack with LWJ being associate with 'strings'.#The musicianship: Of dedication and rigor in one's practice.#The tension between following along a path or composing your own way forwards (playing what has been written vs composing)#A string is a tightly coiled/taunt entity; The same tension that makes it sing so beautifully can be it's downfall if pushed too hard.#And as a non-musical string - something that binds. Be it to his sect and family or how he binds his fate to WWX -#LWJ cannot exist without his binds. It is not something which ties him down though. It keeps him together.#And he himself *is* a bind. He 'ties wwx down' in ways that are initially negatively viewed ('come to gusu' - feels like: come be trapped)#But later it is shown how (despite being introduced as a free spirit) WWX truly wants to be bound to something and someone.#Marriage is a bind he wants. He wants to be tied and grounded by LWJ.#It's starting to sound like innuendo. Let's call his fondness for being literally tied up smart thematic writing.#Finally. Sex scenes that are important to the plot and characters

#amphibian #frog #frogsona #self #actaully i used a toad for reference i like their shape most #so i guess my frogsona is technically a toad (which is just a more specific frog but. you know)#also i cannot stress enough everyone has been so kind throughout the years it's been a pleasure to know my art has brightened your days :)#ok one funny thing is #i've been looking through the old art reminiscing. seeeing if i can pick a favorite per 100 days (the art is sorted in folders of 100 each)#and every single folder i look through i can't pick a favorite because i like so many of them #and every tsingle folder i think to myself 'oh that was a good 100 days there's lots of great ones'#even the earliest days where my anatomy was pretty terrible and my style was so different from what i like now. it's sitll great #it feels really great to be able to look back at my art and think that :)#and my favorites range from ones that are technically skilled to just cute or funny ideas #i think it's a good reminder to myself that art doesn't have to be perfect to be good :)#another important thing im realizing is a majority of my favorites are the ones that tell a story or joke in some way #a scene and/or background do SO MUCH for my own enjoyment of my art #even just some shapes and color in the background elevate it imo
