I feel like there is a distinct lack of the marauders just, being idiots while at Hogwarts because god help me they were definitely idiots.

Like, they absolutely tried to hide under the marauders map once when it was just hitting past curfew because it was Sirius’s turn to bring the cloak and he forgot the cloak.

And Remus and James were arguing with him because “Dude !” and he got pissed, took the closest object - the map - and exclaimed ‘We can use this !’

This stupidity stunned all of them so much that there was just silent for a solid beat drop until-

Lupin collects the groups braincells,

“We can barely all fit under the cloak at this point you think THAT will hide us, which one of us can eve-“

Peter transforms into Wormtail and goes “squeak squeak !”

and Sirius bursts out laughing so loud remus has to be like “Shut up !”

and he’s like “BUT HE- he- AHAHA.”

and James just, takes the map from moony and throws it at peter and points and Remus is like “Okay fucking point taken one of us can but I want to see you try it James.”

James looks back at Remus like “Touché.” and Remus just snatches the map back from pete like “Turn back wormtail you can’t even move with the map on you.”

and Peter does but then he’s like “actually I do think I have a better chance of getting away like that.” and remus is like “Dude, Mrs.Norris.”

and Peter blanches, remus holds all the braincells truly.

And then after a few more moments of silence,

Sirius is the one who puts up his hand at last and is like

“Do we solemnly agree to fucking bolt back to gryffindor tower.”

And Remus looking frantically at the map and the approaching teachers just growls and goes

“Yeh-“ and in surprise to all of them, fucking takes off immediately around the corner, skidding back to call

“LAST ONE OF YOU THERE GETS DETENTION.”

James catches him saying “god I hope it’s Sirius.’ before he really picks up his sprint again - they all know Moony needs the head start - and sirius is shock rooted onto the spot like “HEY-“

and pete is like “oh no oh no oh no-“

and James is already leaving them like “LATER LOSERS.”

And whoever around the corner, filch or snape if he was a prefect who knows just barely catches sight of Sirius’s face and a pet rat at his feet (Peter has a terrible habit of unwillingly transforming when he gets scared.) before Sirius snatched up the rat and turned running around the corner too, shouting insults and making little squeaky noises respectively.

Aside from the head start, the only reason Remus made it back first AND without anyone seeing is because he took the map, the cheeky boy.

The rest of them were jumping in and out of turns and secret passageways trying to avoid the horrors that are Mister Filch and his cat and several house prefects.

James (to later go with his story when he inevitably ended up in detention)

DID actually run head first into Lily who he swerved around and ran backwards (knocking into a random suit of armour) winking at her “HEY EVANS !”

Regulus fellow prefect got to witness this because he was just going after Evans and James just NEARLY missed bumping directly into him,

Regulus was just blinking and siddling up to Lily murmuring “what was that about.” before Sirius sprinted past him, shouting “OH MY GOSH REGULUS !! I FORGOT YOU GOT A BADGE GOOD LUCK.” and Regukus was just like “and there goes my idiot brother.”

Lily didn’t even look at him to be able to say “Yes this is normal, no they’re not usually screaming and running for their lives but I am surprised about that now this seems fitting.” that was the first time she heard Regulus’s enchanting little chime of a laugh and it made her smile, they continued on their way chatting and wondering where exactly Remus had gotten to.

“Was my brother carrying a pet rat.

I don’t recall mothe- oh who am I kidding mother would never get him or I a pet rat.”

And Lily is just like

“Oh yeh ! I’ve seen that a couple of times with each of them, I really don’t know where they keep him, they each have an owl, or well I think Pettigrew might have a toad but not a rat.”

they chalk it up as one of those marauder mysteries until they learn abt their animagi forms at which point both Lily and Regukus look at each other and point at Peter like “THE MYSTERY RAT.”

Anyways I bet you 5 galleons Sirius tripped James up btw that’s how he out run him.

OR ACCIOD HIS GLASSES, shouting “SORRY MATE I WILL GIVE THEM BACK.”

and James was like

Some up late 6th years didn’t even bat an eye anymore when Remus stumbled into the common room supporting James on his shoulder.

Anyway James gets detention, Remus begins to learn the skills of bullshitting with a straight face because Mcgonagall looked him straight in the eye when he brought James to be given said detention and went :

“So you are telling me only Mr. Potter snuck out last night?" "Yes professor." "And none of you accompanied him, and you even gave him detention?" “Uh- yes professor, that is exactly what I did.”

Mcgonagall is pushing her glasses up like

The only reason Remus even made it out of her class is BECAUSE the one he got in detention was James.

Sirius would gladly drag any of his friends down with him into detention if he could, even Moony.

troublemaker as he maybe he’s a bros dude and his greatest strength lies in his love for his friends so the moment he sees Moony flush red in embarrassment under Mcgonagall’s gaze is the moment he immediately, without hesitation decides to lie, voice clear

“No he’s telling the truth professor !”

“Oh ?”

“I was out alone, I was trying to catch a sight of Lily Evans you see, they do prefect duties together.”

He presses on, ignoring Moony’s astonished stare on the back of his head.

“So I thought Remus would do me a favour and help me out but, as you can see, he put his prefect duties above his friendship to me and put me into detention.

Just as you would have wanted him to Professor, so don’t question him.”

And if you imagine James as head boy then this is definitely one of the key moments that lands Mcgonagall choosing him as head boy.

Because he’s lying through his teeth, she knows it but he’s doing it for a friend and it’s the first time she witnessed Mr.Potter in such a light so the moment stuck.

Anyways to round this silliness off :

Sirius makes fun of Remus the moment he’s out of her class and Remus seeing his stupid grin is like “Not a word !!” “awee but Moony aren’t you doing such a good job *silly voice* putting us in our places at long last, Dumbledore would be proud.”

Moony’s just muttering under his fingers, exasperated like “If you don’t shut up Sirius I will put you in your place.” He doesn’t realise that Sirius stopped walking and he nearly walks into a first year by consequences “what ?” “What.”

RIPTIDE!!!!! - really long animated series

not an anime though, no matter how much grizzly wants it, it would be an animation style where the characters could have very clearly different nose, face and body shapes, really pushing my riptide nose agenda here sorry, each episode would be like 20-40 minutes long and instead of coming out in seasons there would be massive gaps in between episodes, from 2-6 months long, to leave time for writers and animators to get stuff done (massive team of animators btw, i feel like it would be pretty successful)

PRIME DEFENDERS!! - comics

literally nothing else they could be, just really well made, well performing comics (i’ve already talked about this before you can stalk my talk tag if you really want to find it lmao), the comic company making them would be keeping well away from movies n shit btw

i had to ask my friend and she said anime which i don’t agree with but i can see it, i think maybe a short book series where each book is 150 - 300 pages and is about a different god they have to kill/a different episode, i think that works but if anyone has any better ideas please tell me :D!!

BLOOD IN THE BAYOU!!! - i hate to say it, i really do…

bitb would be a really long really good 80s horror book with strong homoerotic undertones, a satisfied fanbase and lots of active members in the community making fan comics, films, writing, theories and art ect… until well after the book came out……….. and then it would be made into the most egregious and awful live action movie you have ever seen, the most awful casting (like chris pratt as officer dudes….. throws up) and even worse sfx, oh yeah and the characters would be ruined and the story would become so butchered it wouldn’t make sense, they would do some shit like cut out becky so kian just kisses some random lady (removing both a really good and well written character and a layer of kian’s character that i think is super important) and make rolan really be an evil bug spy the whole time so rand has to kill him to save the town also add in a whole new sub plot that never existed like the rand family is secretly a long line of bug alien hunters or something fucking stupid like that and the entire fanbase would murder whoever thought re-writing the story was a good idea (ahaha can you tell ive been through something like this before ahahaha, character morals and motives being removed and whatnot ahahahhahahaha.)

I love the super powerful but easily spooked wooden sword wielding Mt. Wangcheng disciple, kid you *really* don't need to try study under Master Li, just because he's "the" shifu doesn't mean he's better. He will teach you nothing and isn't batting an eye at his exam candidates dying right under his eyes. Srsly, Mt. Wangcheng, the Lei family and Changfeng's Medicine Shifu's Valley seem to be the only places suitable to bring up well-adjusted, grounded kids in this universe.

Well I suppose Dongjun's first shifu was a great guy but 1. He didn't have enough time 2. Even if he did he was dying and sustaining himself in a contained bubble and what he could teach Dongjun about the world was quite limited.

Baili Dongjun gotta be the naivest ML I've encountered in a while, and by naive I mean beyond the levels of your average innocent, inexperienced teen full of sunlight and getting jaded overtime such as Fang Duobing, Wu Xie, Zhang Chulan etc.

Dongjun has grown up so sheltered and full of positivity, he doesn't seem to register the gravity of things even when they are right in front of his face almost to the point of stupidity.

He provides a stark contrast against his friends, Sikong Changfeng who's been the sweetest but also most down-to-earth kid to begin with and Ye Dingzhi who's been dealing with the weight of the whole world since childhood.

That part where Dongjun saw the arrest warrant for Dingzhi who also turned out to be his long lost bff, was told by his elders that they'll take care of the matter and will bring Dingzhi to him, Dongjun was just like "Ok cool! That's settled then! I'm gonna just chill and have a drink with my new girlfriend then!" was almost funny but sad because,

Kid, you are going to be in a WORLD of hurt VERY soon. You trust strangers way too much!

I mean in BoY you see how severely Dongjun has crashed to the point of wanting to create a broth of oblivion..... I can totally see how that happened.

Changfeng chose the most comparatively normal and mundane romance arc too. She's the top courtesan for sure but still, for many young gentry she wouldn't have been anymore worth than a fling, but Changfeng just went ahead and offered her the most genuine, authentic companionship ever without a second of hesitation. And walked out head held high, with ZERO idea about how suave and sexy it made him and I'm like:

Your compliment sends Robin reeling. He gives you an odd look, running a gloved hand through his hair self-consciously. Did he smell nice? He had changed his shampoo recently, he supposed.

Why was he so concerned about what you thought?

He frowns and dismisses it with a shake of his head, heading back into his room to do further research on the man (or creature, you didn’t know which) that called themselves Slade. You sigh from the large couch you sat on in the living room, slumping against a cushion Cyborg provides for you.

“Look Y/n, you should just come out and say it at this point. Nothing’s getting through that birdbrain of his.” Cyborg advises before yelping, smashing buttons on his controller to prevent Beast Boy from winning.

The green shapeshifter was in a panic, gritting his teeth and trying his best to beat Cyborg in the game they were currently playing. Unfortunately, it results in a loss for Beast Boy and he transforms into a green dog, barking at Cyborg.

You grab the cushion you were slumped on and throw it at Beast Boy who narrowly dodges it with a screech, reverting into his human form and landing on the ground with a groan.

“I’ve tried,” You complain, your attention back on Cyborg who’s starting up another game, “And I’ve made it so obvious for him too. I’m constantly complimenting him, and I even made that huge dinner that one time, remember?” You grouch, crossing your arms across your chest with a grimace at the memory.

It was the day the Titans had managed to subdue Warp, and they had come back to the tower with oddly cheerful smiles and eager to celebrate Blorthog, the festival of friendship. They had entered their living room, surprised to see you already there and cooking up some homemade tacos. You had even set aside a special filling composed primarily of tofu and other spices, in consideration of Beast Boy’s diet.

Cyborg’s eyes practically turned into hearts once he saw the tacos, sniffing the air hungrily as his stomach growled. Raven nodded to you gratefully, while Starfire swept you up into a hug as you scrambled to catch the spatula that fell from your hand. Robin had swiftly moved to catch it just in time, handing it back to you with a gentle smile.

Starfire quickly releases you with a squeal, humming as she moves away to grab a plate. You wheeze, catching your breath when she sets you down. Sometimes the alien girl tended to forget she was several times stronger than you and could easily crush you with a simple hug.

Robin waits patiently for you, and you take the spatula from him with a quick "Thank you". 

“No problem,” He had replied, “it’s been a crazy day, and I’m glad we could’ve come home to a home-cooked meal.” 

You had raised a questioning brow at this, and Robin guides you to the couch where you sit down and he fills you in, having handed over your apron and spatula to Beast Boy who was very particular about how his tofu was cooked.

That night, you celebrated Blorthog with the Titans, remaining beside Robin the entire time. When it was time for you to head to bed, Starfire walks you to her room and sets you down, her eyes shining with an all-knowing glint.

“What’s going on?” You complain, alternating between rubbing your shoulders and arms with a wince, the muscles aching from how much you had exerted them that day with all the prep work and chopping, not to mention shopping for ingredients.

“Friend Y/n, why do you not confess to Robin?” 

“I’m sorry?” You stare blankly at Starfire who looks just as confused at your response. “What’re you talking about?” 

“It is obvious,” she teases you with a grin, the both of you laying down on her bed. She turns to face you and you do the same, your nose creasing in scepticism. “You like him, do you not?”

You sit back up abruptly, heat creeping up your neck and into your cheeks. You stammer, at a complete loss for words. “N-no I don’t!”

Starfire hums, looking up at the ceiling. “Do you really think so, Friend Y/n?” 

You lay back down with flushed cheeks, laying on your back with your hands on your stomach.

Starfire’s casual question had shaken you to your core, much more than you had expected.

Well, he was good-looking, you muse; toned, too. His hair was one of your favourite things about him. It was raven black, and somehow still incredibly soft and fluffy despite all the wax he put in it regularly. You had a chance to feel it when he had dozed off in the living room, his head landing on your shoulder.

You suppress a giggle at the memory. He was incredibly mindful too and cared for all his friends, especially the Titans. He always made sure Beast Boy had spare tofu in the fridge, and that Cyborg had all the equipment and tools he needed. He constantly checked on Raven and made time to introduce Starfire to Earth’s technologies and slang. 

And with you…well, your smile fades when you realise how much you’ve been enjoying your gym workouts with him, and the recent self-defence lesson you had started to take from him. Not only that, but he was the first to reach out to you after a horrible discovery about your best friend for three years, stabbing you in the back.

You didn’t know where you’d be without him, honestly. Sure, it was Beast Boy who had introduced you to his friends, but it was Robin who caught your eye the first time you met them, and it was him whom you liked to spend the most time with.

You liked to think you knew him like the back of your hand. Maybe you did, judging from how every time any of the team fought with him, they’d always send you to talk to Robin first.

You close your eyes, picturing his warm smile. 

You liked it.

You tried to imagine what it’d be like if you two had a massive fight. You start to frown, your brows furrowing.

You hated that thought.

Next, you tried to imagine him with someone else. Someone whom he had a special smile for, someone that brightened up his day with just their presence alone. Someone whom he was in love with.

Someone who wasn’t you.

Your eyes fly open, surprised at how nauseous you felt at the thought. Beads of sweat had formed on your forehead and you used your wrist to wipe them off, coming to the groundbreaking realisation that you liked Robin.

Now, you stood outside your door, heading to the kitchen for a glass of water. After Cyborg’s gaming session with Beast Boy, you had all gone out for dinner where you dropped hint after hint, almost getting frustrated by his obliviousness.

Raven had just looked at you with pity.

Starfire had insisted you sleep over after dinner, and after a quick phone call to your parents, you spent yet another night in the tower.

“You’re up too?” You’re surprised to see the very boy you’ve been pining over for weeks, standing in the kitchen with his glass of water. He grabs an empty glass, setting down his own and filling it up with water from a jug. He hands it to you and you accept it gratefully, taking a sip and following him to the glass windows that stretched from the ceiling to the floor.

“Sometimes looking at the city from here, reminds me why I’m doing this.” He suddenly speaks softly, almost as if he was confiding in you.

A moment of comfortable silence passes between you two, and you take another sip of water before parting your lips to speak.

“I think it’s honourable. The fact that you’re doing this with your life on the line all the time is scary, but you don’t ever hesitate. It’s admirable.” 

“Thanks.” He grins at your encouraging words before realising his hair wasn't in its usual hairstyle. He runs a hand through his hair, trying to subtly style it somewhat. You turn and face him.

Did you dare?

You hesitate before gesturing for him to hold your cup. He obliges, bending down with confusion on his face when you beckon for him to come closer. You subconsciously hold your breath, starting to run your hands through his hair gently. You comb out every lock and tangle delicately, restoring his hair to its natural state without the hair wax he always had in.

You notice the redness that painted the tips of his ears and you grin, gnawing your bottom lip with a mischievous glint in your eyes. 

Maybe there was hope for you after all.

You take a step back, making sure that your eyes meet and give him a soft smile. “You should keep your hair down more often. I like it.”

You hear the hitch of his breath, and he ducks his head away, handing you your glass still half-full with water. You watch in amusement as his cheeks flush a baby pink.

Robin’s not sure how to deal with the sudden compliment, not having received many of those of that nature. 

Surely it wasn’t…was it?

“Are you flirting with me?”

“You finally noticed?”

You did it. No going back now. You look down at your fingers that gripped your glass tightly as if your life depended on it. Your mouth was suddenly dry.

He was taking too long to respond.

You gulp down the rest of your water down hurriedly, rushing to set it down in the basin and giving Robin a hurried ‘goodnight’ before practically sprinting down the hallway back to Starfire’s room.

Robin’s left in the living room, the dim city lights illuminating the spot where you stood in front of him just before. He stares at it dumbly, still processing your words.

You were flirting with him?

You were flirting with him.

He leans against the glass window, deep in thought and rethinking every single remark you had ever said to him, and every action you did. His eyes linger on the space where you stood moments before.

The constant compliments. When you notice he changed something subtle in his routine. The small things you did for him, like buying him a refill for his hair wax before he even realised he needed a restock, or mending a torn cape in your spare time.

But that could only mean…

Did you like him?

Did he like you?

He blinks, startled at the sudden thought. Sure, you were a great friend, and someone he enjoyed talking to. You were always there for him when he was frustrated or when he was down, and you talked him through many conflicts with his team. 

He thinks back to just moments before when you had asked him to hold your cup for you. At that moment, he couldn’t help but notice the small flecks of soft yellow that reflected in your eyes from the city lights. He was enraptured as if your eyes held the entire galaxy in them; and when you asked him to come closer, he was all too happy to oblige.

When you combed out the tangles in his hair, he almost let out a blissful sigh at how nice it felt as your fingers threaded through his thick locks. He had wanted to lean his head on your shoulder, but he forced himself to focus on the glass in his hand instead.

Then you admitted to flirting with him.

Sure, he was taken aback, but his heart started to race in his chest, making him both breathless and speechless. 

After all, he wasn’t sure how to respond. But strangely enough, he felt neither embarrassment nor dislike at the admittance. Instead, he felt almost…glad.

But he didn’t like you in that way, did he?

I only ever watched the first twenty minutes of this a couple of years ago so I'm watching this today (yes, for my fic ahaha) and will note my thoughts:

"they're AGAINST so many things but are they FOR anything?" I mean, ....some of them were

The opening scene where he's walking down the street and a bunch of hippies start walking with him and grinning is hilarious

There's a shot of a young woman who is supposedly having "a freak out" (a bad trip) being dragged into the hospital by cops, and she sounds somewhat lucid to me ("do my friends know where I am? where are you taking me??? where am I??") but also, I don't think putting her in a cop car and dragging her to the hospital was likely to improve her mental state. (All they can do is give you a bed, keep an eye on you, and maybe sedate you; tho I suspect they also just restrained people sometimes.)

they interview a doctor who says "there's no way to predict who will have a bad trip [on LSD]" but we sorta did know how to prevent them?? Set and setting was talked about for years already. That said: a lot of people of that era did in fact use it very irresponsibly, or did stupidly high doses, and even gave it to people without their consent.

"They try to live without money but still beg" I mean. yeah the problem is that you can't live without money. But some of them were trying to make money obsolete to some extent (like the Diggers).

Watching a scene recorded at the offices of the San Francisco Oracle, I can't help thinking "man those would be worth money now" (I checked ebay just now--actual print copies of original issues are in the $100 range)(I have scans on DVD, which is by far the cheapest way to own/read it)

They interview a guy working there and he says "life should be a joy, and it's a drag!" and he talks about the "absurdity" of people driving to work every day in metal boxes by themselves, and like, he's not wrong. He also mentions the "alienation of middle-class life" which again: not wrong, especially at the time. Suburban life was just so much more stifling.

"They want a group of mutual support and affection to belong to" Well yeah that's. a normal human desire?? Does Harry Reasoner think that's a bad thing?

Oh hey they cover the Diggers feeding people in the Panhandle once a day: "This feeding typifies the hippie ideal of standing apart from society by means of mutual help and love. It contains its own ironies, for the daily feed is itself dependent on the food being offered by the very society that is being rejected" jfc so much of this just has big "And yet you participate in society!! Curious. I am very intelligent" energy lol

Okay so a doctor dude calls out how hippies say they love everyone in a very general sense but are incapable of loving another specific person that "might make demands of them," and tbh I think that was sometimes true. He also talks about how many of them seem to be using LSD because they struggle with managing negative feelings (especially anger), and again: not entirely wrong. (It's worth noting that in interviews with people who'd been teenagers during the Summer of Love, there were a LOT of stories of people escaping abusive homes, including numerous accounts of CSA, which imho puts the "they do LSD bc they can't deal with negative emotions" in a very different light)

A couple of hippies point out: Y'know we do drugs in part just to increase our sensory experience, right?? Like it's great listening to music on it. You know that, right????

"LSD will damage your chromosomes!!" Thankfully, that one was disproven.

So they interview a young guy in a psych ward about his experiences with LSD, and this poor kid describes what was obviously severe social anxiety, and that taking LSD a few times cured it--he was no longer anxious that other people would reject him, because LSD gave him that (very common on LSD) effect of feeling "at one" with all people/living things/the universe, and instilled in him the concept that all humans are beautiful. "I'm not afraid of people anymore, because even if they reject me, they're still beautiful." Harry Reasoner is like "but it's fake" my dude shut up. oh my god. Harry: "but what about dangerous people?" Kid: "yeah, there's dangerous people, but they're still beautiful." Harry' just like "okay but you SHOULD be afraid of other people" and the kid's just like. Nah.

Like, they're researching using hallucinogens for treating things like anxiety NOW. Because it sometimes works!

Tbh this kid seems pretty lucid and smart. And the reason he's in there is that he "talked about God too much" so his mother had him committed.

Harry: "So tell me what God's like." Kid: "First of all God is everything, so he's like everything. He is everything. There's nothing that he isn't." This kid doesn't seem crazy to me. He's saying shit tons and tons of people have said!! Someone give him a copy of Julian of Norwich's "shewings." He's not alone.

Holy shit they interviewed this kid's mom and wow. Yeah she's just. Refusing to actually validate anything her son has said to her. "I can't describe to you the feeling that it gives you when your son says to you, 'Can't you feel it, God is everywhere...' But I told him, 'You don't see God until you die!'" Your son is saying the same shit mystics have said throughout history, lady; and he's expressing himself very clearly for a teenager. I'm not going to quote all the bullshit she says but she clearly just has a very sensitive son who had anxiety, and LSD gave him a sense of wonder at the universe, and she thinks that means he's crazy. (She does mention that drug use should be a medical issue and not a criminal one, so points to her for that; but based on what they showed, her son shouldn't have been locked up.)

They also interview a teenage girl who is there after multiple suicide attempts. She was on LSD when the people she was with sexually assaulted her, and shortly after she first attempted suicide. And again they interview the mom...who describes a textbook case of major depression after a traumatic event: "She lost interest in herself, she was very lethargic. She didn't want to do anything, even things she used to do." The girl attempted suicide two more times. Mom is trying to do the right thing, here. But again, this wasn't the fault of LSD?? It's the fault of the people who assaulted her?

God, this is heartbreaking: "When I found out, I didn't know what to say. And she asked me, 'Are you angry at me?' and I said, 'Why would I be angry [at you]?' I just didn't think this would happen. I wanted something better for her." ;_;

They bring on some doctor of neuropsychiatry who says absolute word vomit ("This is really a very serious malignant form of modern civilization which means that we no longer have the stamina to really hassle with our youngsters in a purposeful way of learning," and he keeps going! Sir, are you DRUNK?)

They go to a crash house run by the Diggers and act like giving homeless kids a place to sleep and food to eat is harming them. But you see this even NOW in cities with high homeless populations--the idea that housing/feeding them is only enabling them. (Don't even get me started that shit it makes me furious.)

They admit the hippie movement sounds real attractive to young people and openly list the reasons: "The way they dress, the way they advocate love as opposed to hate, peace as opposed to war, self expression as opposed to inhibition. All these things put them in the role of courageous and warm-hearted rebels against cold stiff square old-fashioned authority." I mean. Yeah????? I know people hate on boomers a lot, but for real, they were rebelling against pretty hardcore "conform or die" messaging from the 50's, plus the Vietnam War.

"Doctors see a universal danger in use of LSD: they feel that normally rebellious young people may be turned into emotional cripples. At a time when they should be meeting and solving problems of sexuality and personal identity, they deaden their drives with a magic pill which solves nothing. They may never grow up." This is at least half "suffering is good for you" rhetoric. Also by "sexuality" they don't mean "figure out if I'm gay" lol they mean "realize you might want sex, and therefore get married and have children."

The talk to a few people at one of the Digger crash houses. One of them is like, "I like it here. I have my own room and I cook food for everyone." She literally just....found a sense of meaning by helping people out and being around people with the same ideals as her. This is not a bad thing.

They admit plenty of the hippies are hard workers trying to create a better world--but because that better world is at least partially inspired by their experiences on LSD, those ideas are completely dismissed.

Anyway the members of the Grateful Dead talk about how they do want a more peaceful world and a simple life (hahhhhh) and that, yes, most people decide to be hippies after doing LSD, but that plenty of people do it a few times and stop, because they've learned what LSD had to teach them.

They show people at a rock show, dunno where, but there's a liquid light show projected onto the stage and people are dancing, and ironically this is SUPER useful for my gd fic because I couldn't find any CROWD SHOTS from the original Fillmore or Avalon! Anyway apparently said theaters didn't sell alcohol, useful to know.

More scare-mongering about bad trips--which they admit could be brought on by being hungry and sleeping outside. (but giving them a warm place to sleep and food to eat is bad??)

OH HEY they talk about the Haight-Ashbury Free Clinic. (I looked it up and TIL: They didn't close until 2019.)

Some discussion of how other drugs were starting to come onto the scene--and they show a guy slumped over on the couch at the clinic. (On a related note: for real, heroin is bad. Like the anti-drug people are actually right on that one. Don't do heroin.)

The guy who started the clinic said that a lot of the older doctors who volunteer there, themselves have kids who are hippies. So there's this need to understand their kids better and a drive to help people like their own children. "The attitude [towards hippies who need healthcare] of 'let them die' changes when it's their own kid." Yeah I bet it does.

More from the guy who started the clinic: "One thing that people don't realize is that the Haight-Ashbury is a symptom, not a cause. And that the kids are attracted to the Haight-Ashbury because of some deprivation, primarily intellectual deprivation, in their former mode of life. And I think this is why [kids from] the middle class are so intensely involved in the Haight-Ashbury: because it is a product of the middle class. It's not a peripheral movement, it is a direct reaction against the forces that control the United States. And it's not an anarchist movement*, the hippies aren't interested in any philosophy, including communism! They just want to live their own life."

(*Some of the Diggers might disagree on that one lol)

Back to Harry Reasoner: "The way the hippies want to live seems in the end to consist of childish postures. They claim they want to be left alone, but they are masters at setting up public occasions which are bound to draw attention if not interference. Just as an unruly child will act up in a way that attracts adult intervention, and then complain about it." LOLOL this is literally just "they're having fun in public and it's not to my tastes, so I don't like it." Like their example is a band playing on a fire escape and people on the street dancing. That's Wholesome, my dude; you just don't like the music or the kind of dancing. But they BLOCKED TRAFFIC OH NOES. The cops show up, the band stops, the crowd starts singing "God Bless America" at the cops, lolol. Oh and then the Grateful Dead announce they're gonna play in the Panhandle, so the crowd wanders off. The Dead then play Dancing in the Street, which even Harry Reasoner admits is funny.

"They object to the ills which beset society: social hatreds, money-grubbing, spiritual waste. But their remedy is to withdraw into private satisfactions." ....okay he's not entirely wrong there. Like, it's difficult to talk about hippies as this monolithic group that all want one thing, because that absolutely was not true. But for plenty of them, the goal was just to have a good time.

Finally, he lays out his theses:

"You can say three things about them. They, at their best, are trying for a kind of group sainthood. And saints running in groups are likely to be ludicrous. They depend on hallucination for their philosophy. This is not a new idea and it has never worked. And finally they offer a spurious attraction of the young: a corruption of the idea of innocence. Nothing in the world is as appealing as real innocence. But it is by definition a quality of childhood. People who can grow beards and make love are supposed to move from innocence to wisdom."

I.....what does that mean. Why are saints in groups "ludicrious." When was it tried before that didn't work. How the fuck does this guy define innocence and wisdom and why are they mutually incompatible??

And boy oh boy would he hate to find out that a very common idea among these people's kids/grandkids is going to be "I'm allowed childish pleasures and whimsy, as long as I pay my bills etc., if they make me happy and I'm not hurting anyone." Like, I watched this thing because I'm writing fanfiction about a cartoon (theoretically) aimed at children. Daci is downstairs playing a video game. This house has dozens of stuffed animals in it. We go to comic conventions.

iiiiit's that time of year again folks! sliding in sorta late with mine, but its before new years, so it counts.

artwise the year was rather dry. another one of those "creating or being 5000% dead" years. plenty of fic writing! and i sure am breathing! but... eheheh. if it weren't for my commissioners, i wouldn't have anything a lot of these months X] ah well, the personal pieces i did do were either big and experimental or just character silly times to help me fall back in love with art. i'll call it a win since i had at least one thing every month!

i got covid the last week of january, first of all. that was awful and i wouldn't recommend it at any point. honestly? kinda set the tone for the rest of the year. i went through 3 different jobs lmao. that's gotta be the thing that shaped most of my mood and time. first job was overworking me, second job literally ground me into the dust, and the third job (which i'm still working at) has helped gently get me back on my feet. i actually LIKE going to work most of the time again. really relieving when u gotta work to live X] tho i'll be honest i don't remember a lot of the year aside from work ahaha :,) leaning on my daylio mood tracker/diary app for a lot of this review ;_; money's been tight and circumstances have been up and down and all around... plenty of mental health bullshittery to compliment getting worked to death. got to meet and vibe with friends new and old on a few scattered vacations tho! nd i took the time to tend to friendships in general as i was able. when i wasn't... y'know. just Trying To Exist tm. sometimes i feel like i wasn't there enough this year. like it kept slipping through my fingers. time was slow and too fast all at once. energy was very hit or miss. but... hey, there's gonna be those times when u just survive. i'm ok that the year was spent just getting by. next year should even out a bit- or at least present new problems rather than dragging out the old ones LKDJFS oh! and there were some good things in there for sure! went to an owl city concert, started hanging out with my new work friends, saw the mOTHERFUCKIN FN/AF MOVIE HELLO???? and renewed the lease at my apartment! so, hey! another thing i'll call a win.

time plods on and so do i! into the new year i go, armed with headstrong plans of hope, new roommates (yet longtime friends) on the horizon, and blorbos ready to spin faster than any twister.

so idk if it was that that made the show feel exceptionally good, and I find it difficult to rank the BC shows I've been to in any order of excellence, but I'd say this one would go pretty high on that list; their energy was unmatchable and, as always at BC gigs, I truly had the best fun I've ever had 🥺

(which is why I'm still a little dumbfounded and emptyheaded and will probably spend the entire tomorrow crying because I miss them so much and have no idea when I'm gonna see them again jdkdkfjkfkfkf can't they just drop some tour dates for next year soon or at least the "big show" they keep teasing us about so I can experience the serotonin boost of buying another BC concert ticket and have something to look forward to in my sad little life ahaha)

but yeah anyway I am so fucking horny for Aleksi y'all. Wanting him carnally was NOT on my bingo card for this year but here we are 🪦

I waved at Aleksi one time when he came over because yes that's how desperate I was for an interaction with him and he mercifully acknowlwdged my efforts by looking at me and giving me the tiniest nod. So yeah I think I'll name our first-born son Tapio & y'all are invited to the christening 🥰

got to witness many many many cute Olli/Allu moments (mostly touches) with my bare eyeballs, I feel so blessed and nourished I think I'll live on this for the rest of the year 💗 (she says, knowing very well she will indeed be sobbing her eyes off tomorrow and the whole next week most likely)

I think they all were genuinely impressed by the audience's energy (or at least the first row was fucking fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥) and I know they praise the audience at every show but I'm still gonna go ahead and take their every sweet word as a personal compliment <3

I loved seeing Niko so much? He's a tiny guy and loves crouching so it's not always easy to see him from farther away lol and he was wearing sunglasses the entire show (it was cloudy) but behind the glasses I like to believe he looked at me/us many many times Niko Niko Niko I love Niko 🥰

And Joel was so happy too 😭 happy Joel = happy me, automatically and every time, I need to know when I get to make him happy again by going to see their show, he deserves it and I deserve it 😭😭😭

So yeah, once again BC did what was said on the can: made me forget all about my pathetic little problems and I kinda need that in order to survive so if you need me I shall be refreshing their social media like a junkie asking random passers-by if they happen to have any speed on them, eyes red and visibly shaking because that's how bad I need my next fix

ok so i think because of a lot of things all at once i am… slowly reentering my creative self and WOW it has been a wild few weeks just for that alone but anyway

have been playing So Much minecraft and reading marvel comics like that is pretty much my whole life rn (living the eight-year-old boy life i was meant to). and a lottt of my minecraft playing right now is just making a huge-normous map lmao (which, side note coral reefs my beloved wow boating over those at night makes me just like wow!! the world is beautiful!! and it is literally not even the world). but so last night honestly idk what nuerons fired but ig im making a world map for an.. entirely new world? and ofc thinking about life on that planet etc etc.

tl;dr i think im doing my own world building finally. but HOW do you not do all of it all at once. part of me is going “what if you just focused on Part of this planet” except i dont know if i can do it like that?? like instead of building the story out from a characters im finding it much easier to instead build the world around them first (thank you sims?? ig?? cannot ever play that game fully because i never know what to do after i finish building the house 💔). and then. play around w some people in this world like dolls or something until there is a story

unfortunately because of this i dont feel like i can go into one specific area of the map, like ursula leguin does (which, lets be honest, shes where this is all coming from). i am finding myself needing to know how planets are formed and how sun exposure changes climates over time and how tectonic plates move which i fully may never need for this in the end but i need to know it so that i can properly organize the climates and uh well. biomes for lack of better word lmao. but also at the same time im already figuring out the culture and its like… can i just focus on one at a time 🧍

and like. thinking about turning this into an actual story because i finally caught up on the penumbra podcast and i fear they have yet again rewired my brain or at least relit a flame. or like. the final domino fell? mixed metaphors something something a culmination of all the things ive been doing lead me to this moment

TL;DR (for real this time) my brain is going alllll over the place like a bajillion miles an hour in all directions and idk man i just wish i could simplify it all a little bit except that i am a detail hoarder and it all feels equally as important as the other thing so its just this big wall of Things how do you do it

U HAVE UNCOVERED THE GOLD MINE it's so much fun and so complex and so Much. in general. how is it going dude i love worldbuilding tell me about the biomes and tectonic plates literally any time... imo culture and climate affect each other equally in worldbuilding like you can go with vibes of the culture first and then build from there and keep going or u can start with the climate and go what kind of people would live here but usually it is Both at the Same Time and it is. it is a lot. i miss worldbuilding tbh dude this is FANTASTIC for you <3

this is a journal of sorts where i talk about my sprickets! theyre greenhouse camel crickets (Tachycines asynamorus), an invasive east asian species thats a very common household visitor where i live (new york, USA). i caught these dudes in my apartment, ahaha. i started keeping them on 12/6/2022

i mostly keep this blog for myself, but id love to bring other folks happiness with the antics of these lil guys. im very new to invert husbandry of any sort (my only real area of expertise is cats, ahaha), so if youve got any tips id be super grateful if youd share. theres so little info out there about T. asynamorus irt care.

Pincushion ♀️

on the phone with my mother only one night after having caught Donut, i was telling her how i was happy with having 4 sprickets and didnt feel id keep any more at the moment... not long after the call ended, i spotted Pincushion, only about a month old, and... well, who can say no to a baby?

she's grown into SUCH a character, oh my GOD. she's one of those spricket with such a big personality you wonder how it even fits in that little bean-shaped body. she's active and spunky, and definitely quirky: theres this little purple cave i made with my 3d pen which i gave her when she was still baby and, while she's long since outgrown it, she still seems to have a fixation on it. she often can be seen sticking her head inside it, just standing there, as if she's confused why its gotten so small, ahaha.

i love this lil goofball so much. she's also single and ready to mingle, so any hot young spricket bachelors hmu ;)

In no particular order. Most of them I have been obsessed with ever since I was a kid. 

Nie Huaisang (CQL/MDZS) - The only reason it took me so long to do this was because I couldn’t decide between NMJ and NHS. Alas, I relate to NHS the most, he’s also an incredibly intricate character that lives in my head rent free. 

Hatake Kakashi (Naruto) - Contrary to most people, I actually watched this show/read the manga until 2020 and I've been obsessed with this tragic overpowered ninja ever since. I think he is the character I have written/drawn the most about. I relate way too much to him, which is...strange. I am in love with his story and character development through the show. 

Louis de Pointe du Lac (Interview With the Vampire) - I must confess I haven't yet read the book, but I watched the AMC show and I FELL IN LOVE. I have Ana to thank for introducing me to this amazing, complicated mess of a man. 

Thranduil (The hobbit) - When I watched all LOTR movies, I was a kid and my aunt was babysitting and obviously I started obsessing over him and the elves when I read every Tolkien book I could get my hands on. I haven't written much about him but I do have a whole AU-Canon divergence for Oropher, Thranduil and Legolas half written on AO3. My version of Thranduil, Oropher’s line and the Greenwood elves is VERY different from the hobbit movies, though.  

Ned the Pie Maker (Pushing daisies) - Tall, sensible, caring, harmless man who loves to bake and is also an accidental necromancer? YES, PLEASE.  

Yue (Sakura Card-captor) - Imagine you are this super powerful supernatural being whose world gets turned upside down when the person you considered your everything dies. Imagine you get sealed inside the back cover of a book for 100 years and then inside the body of a teenager without being asked for consent and without being able to get out to live a normal life. You are also left without much of your power for a long time, and then you are given a ridiculously short amount of time to get used to everything that is going on around you while your twin and your other brothers and sisters get months to understand and process what happened. AND THEN it turns out that the dude that you loved so much didn’t died, instead reincarnated into some annoying bitch (who is now a different person than he was in his past life so meh) because he had some cosmic realization when he turned like 800 years old because being the most powerful magician in the world makes your common sense disappear, apparently...and then this annoying brat creates a cheap copy of you and your sibling, yikes. Imagine you really want to slap everyone but you dont want to set a bad example to the nice, cute girl who you depend on now, BUT DAMMIT IF YOU COULD YOU WOULD. Yeah. He's That Bitch™ and he deserves it. I support you, Yue. 

Azula (Avatar: The Last Airbender) - She is definitively the character I relate to the most, like she was 14 and learned very soon what happens if you get on your father’s bad side. She's a prodigy and what she needed in the end was some psychological help and then the throne, bye. 

Captain James T. Kirk (Star Trek) -  I want to be a Starfleet captain so bad, ISTG. He’s so much, a drama queen, the voice of reason, a disaster waiting to happen, a feminist, queer, The Captain, a nuisance, the smartest person in the room, mister daddy issues, mister “bones get that hypospray off my face”, mister I am in love with this Vulcan, mister I am in love with this doctor, “Dammit Jim!”. Yeah, him.

Crowley (Good Omens) - I read the book when I was in high school, it was the first book I read in one sitting without getting distracted. I loved those two. I love Crowley and the fact that he is always trying to cause havoc through elaborate schemes that inconvenience the human race. Ahaha, he’s the best. (Yes, I loved the TV show).

Dorian (Almost Human) - HE JUST WANTS TO BE SEEN AS SOMETHING MORE THAN JUST A MACHINE. He’s sometimes more human than all the humans he works with. I love Dorian and Kennex, you bet I have read every single fic centered on him or both of them on AO3. I’m forever sad they cancelled that show.

1 : who is your favorite character in the game?

Unironically I'm a Sara liker, i think she's both the biggest failure and the biggest bossgirl. In reality I think the way she's so geniuenly compassionate and kind of a dork. She's so self-conscious in a way I find actually so cute but also so reletable and it's been so fun to see how the death game affects character but more importantly how the other characters influence her. I also like that she sometimes can say the dumbest things.

4 : whats your favorite moment ingame?

OHH I GOT A FEW. This is gonna get spoiler-y but!

Not exactly one specific moment but Gin wanting for Sara to hang out with him in exchange for the tokens. He really is so well written it's insane but honestly this is also such a good way for making the player (us) get closer to Gin for the final attraction. Also it's just so sweet when he decides to trust Safalin with Mew-chan because Sara said so.

Moment number two is when Alice decides to erase his memories of Reko. Like! This is a moment that shows the major differences between Reko and Alice as well as Alice's true nature, which is obviously being a coward. It's also the moment when I both want to yell at him so sooo much for doing it but partially I understand.

THIRD IS THAT ONE VERY VERY SHORT SNIPPET OF NAO IN THE AFTERLIFE. Especially in the Reko dies route. I think that one is mostly self explanatory. It makes me so insane to think that those two care about each other so deeply that death can't do them apart.

5 : which character did you change your opinions on the most?

Joe and Q-taro.

For Joe I'll have to be honest, I didn't care much for him at the beginning. His death mostly hit me by the way Sara reacted to it. I think Joe is a character who grew on me the more he was gone?? His dynamic with Sara is just so good and he's just such a sweet guy. I more or less went from indifference to liking him a lot.

And so sorry Bas but I really disliked Q-taro at the beginning. He didn't seem to be doing much at the beginning of the game and was hella distrustful. Which, fair, but it was also so damn annoying. The final attraction didn't do much in my eyes for him either. Like, irc he let Gin be stung twice. Like. Dude. His later relationship with Gin and Mai did change that a lot to me. I think he also kinda needed that experience of the final attraction to tone him down a little and be one of the main driving forces behind trying to resist AsuNaro.

6 : which character do you think has the most death flags?

EZ. Keiji. I was convinced this man was gonna die in 3b instead of Q-taro. At this point if he does live through the death game I'm going to be disappointed.

14 : whats your favorite joke from the game/fandom?

Homophobic Midori & everybody hates Shin. Sorry not sorry.

24 : in YTTS, which fondness events are your favorite?

Oh I don't think I've gotten all of the fondness events so far. I still haven't even finished Kai's route ahaha--

But! Even if there are all of the events that are so emotional and dive deep into the characters I will have to choose Kanna's fondness events with Mishima. This girl just cracks me up. She insists her bucket is a damn hat and then outs her sister. Iconic. Legendary.

It's also so fun to see Kanna happy and not haunted by Kugie's death. Her character really shines in YTTS. Pun intended.
