“Mu Qing is too logical for his own good” is such a real problem that he deals with and as tragic as it makes his life I also think it’s really funny when someone is accusing him of something and instead of telling them to shut up or leave him alone the first thing he does is pull out the 95 fucking theses detailing every single thing wrong with their argument WITH historical evidence and additional considerations from scholarly psychology articles, MLA format works cited and completely annotated. #these aren't all of them just a random collection but just thinking about how much him not talking is such a strong part of his character#which is. well i think some of it is just that he's naturally quiet but some of it is definitely something that's grown in him over time#like when we first see him in digne he talks a Lot more than when we see him again in montreuil. which is probably bc he then has something#to hide but the way that him having something to hide ends up bleeding this sort of silence over into the rest of his life. hh.#there's more of these particularly there's a lot where it goes like. someone says something to him. he does something in response. they say#another thing. he does something in response. they say something else. he does something in response#<- so it's like a dialogue except actually they're the only ones talking#there's like whole sections of text that are just like this. whole conversations he's in that only really have one vocal participant#anyways. uox faucibus haesit coded of him for real :(#thoughts#les mis#also thinking abt how i think this is a big part of why he comes across differently in the musical. which is not the fault of the musical#bc it's just not possible to do in that medium i think . but it does chance things impression wise#Also this paralleled with all the places cosette is described as quiet/not talking when he first goes to get her

it's so wild to look at s1!buck compared to s7!buck
#obvs he went from fuckboy to loveboy (rather quick but thats what happens when he realises he wants something bad enough)#which can be paralleled to his bisexual speedrun in 7x04 and 7x05 and also a bit of 7x06. but i'm actually#talking about how he went from the big strong selfless hero protector archetype for abby (but also as a firefighter identity) in s1#to s7 where he's being taken care of in his relationship with tommy and being prioritized by his partner (who also happens#to be a firefighter) which is new and wonderful but there's also no imbalance of care; tommy is open and honest about how he#feels and buck meets him with open honesty in return - they meet in the middle! - it's just so cathartic for buck's storyline to see#how much he opens himself up to love in s1 and yearns to be wanted as much in return but it doesn't happen (and continues not to)#but with tommy he finally has someone who wants him just as much in return- and moreover we see buck being himself (evan!)#with tommy which is so freeing that he doesn't have to put on the buck persona: he can be goofy and dumb and vulnerable + needy#and tommy wants all of it all of him. i know we haven't seen much of their relationship so far and obvs they're still in the#honeymoon phase - which is why i'm so excited for the more settled phase of their rship (we saw a bit of it in the finale)#to see continued proof of them meeting in the middle. and also more instances of tommy caring for buck and wanting all of buck#but yeh just gimme more of buck being comfortably himself and all that means bc he feels seen and safe and wanted by tommy#.txt#parallels#evan buckley

#lmao#like everyone in the notes im like. how do you apply disco elysium’s narrative power to a story about… nothing?#disco elysium is a deeply political story set in an extremely allegorical world#every choice in the story/characters/worldbuilding/etc ultimately contributes to the depth of it. that’s WHY it has an impact#martinaise is not a generic grimy setting. it’s the forgotten ugly child in the corner of revachol#exploited for its commercial value in a city whose entire purpose for the rest of the world is to be exploited for its commercial value#if u dig for two seconds into the information you get to learn about revachol’s relationship with the rest of the world#and martinaise’s relationship with revachol#do you KNOW how much insane symbolic meaning you get out of that???#and that’s just one thing. the actual beauty of this game is that almost everything has something like that#there are symbols and parallels everywhere. the kinds of things that wouldn’t work if you took the politics out of it#it’s not a mistake that harry is white. it’s not a mistake that he can say racist & fascist things#it’s not a mistake that addiction is such a huge part of his story#if you replaced him with anything else the story would not be the same. it’s SUPPOSED to be uncomfortable#this goes for all of the other characters too. Joyce is a rich white woman on purpose. Kim is an Asian man on purpose. etc etc#this interconnectedness and intentionality is what makes disco elysium have the narrative power it does#you couldn’t make such an expansive story without first building a world w consistent internal logic#and with believable conflicts and forces fighting each other#you can’t make a game with this many choices without accepting that some people will want to make heinous choices#and accepting that giving them those options is a statement of itself in the game#a game about a young witch investigating the disappearance of a pet — not even a person. not even HER pet — isn’t the same#where is the emotional hook? where is the conflict? how many choices can you reasonably make over the course of that story?#and in a small village there’s so much less room for worldbuilding. disco elysium takes place in a small part of town but it’s for a reason#it’s bc martinaise is a microcosm for revachol and revachol is important. you need to understand it to understand the world#a small village in the alps sounds… disconnected. it isn’t the center of the world. it isn’t even a PIECE of the center of the world#unfortunately in order to write something as narratively interesting and strong as disco elysium you also need to understand what makes it#uh. good?#and we all know that what makes it good is the ick of it all

the difference between my amy and my maria is that amy has the rough and tumble experience and the boldness to go 'yeah, that person's a creep' while still acknowledging them as a person. hasn't exactly been fucked over by anyone on a personal level but she's seen plenty of other people go through it herself.
maria on the other hand - completely sheltered mindset, thinks everyone could be her friend, mild cognitive dissonance because she's not fully come to terms with what happened on the ARK with the G.U.N raid and it's very traumatic to unpack. similarly, has a bit of a people pleaser mindset due to wanting to stay strong for her family despite being very ill.

( ooc. )#they both were also just socialized differently too i think#amy started out living in the woods under a kitchen witch's roof and then eventually set off to be their own independent person#so they have a pretty strong sense of 'i can do this if i set my mind to it' outlook#theyre a sweet girl with a spunky and sassy personality. a very 'i want and i got it' attitude#maria on the other hand has porcelain doll syndrome and never got to be independent and develop that proper backbone#yet they both ultimately share the same exact belief that people in general are deserving of a chance to be happy - because theyre people#as seen in the parallel flashback of sa2 where amy reminds shadow of his true promise to maria#anyways i think they should get to be friends fhdjfd
