Unwanted Attention [Hotch x Reader]
Prompt: Having to travel to the middle of nowhere Ohio for a serial killer was bad enough, add to the fact that the local LEOs are looking a little too hard at JJ, Emily, and _y/n_ was seriously testing Aaron’s resolve. Lots of protective Hotch here! This is another @imagining-in-the-margins inspired fic for her Meet Cute Writing Challenge. I’m using the dialogue prompt: “Watch where you’re going!” “… You ran into me?!”
Category: Angst/comfort - (mostly comfort I think).
Word Count: 5.8K
Content Warnings: Canon typical violence (serial killer - kills via strangulation but nothing explicit) unwanted physical touch (groping of the behind and pubic area) misogyny, sexism, the U.S. police, language, brief mention of intimacy.
A/N: Hi friends! I am very pleased with this one. I love writing Hotch with righteous anger. It just looks too damn good on him. I also love the duality of this man because one moment he is ready to bite someone’s head off and the next he only has eyes for you and he’s checking in and feeling guilty. You could read this story as a standalone or as a prequel to my story, Life can be Terrible, but At Least You're In It. (linked). I want to shout out @criminalskies for hyping me up while writing this. Last, if you enjoyed reading this, likes, comments, and reblogs are appreciated! - Levi

Walnut Creek Ohio, who on the team had heard of it? Well apart from Spencer, because apparently he’d read a United States Atlas Map one night when his insomnia was bothering him, and he had retained all the information about nearly every tiny town that existed in the States. Spencer was rambling off facts about the tiny town stating, “There are 908 residents in the town as of 2017. It’s shocking that a serial killer would target such a small community where everyone has to know everyone else.” y/n, JJ, and Reid were all at the coffee station filling up cups. y/n pulled out her _f/c_ thermos. She always made sure that anyone who wanted coffee got to go first because her reusable metal container took about half the pot. y/n had finally wisened up after Emily and Spencer kept complaining about the coffee getting lukewarm, or worse, cold while sitting on the plane. Now her coffee stayed hot for hours if need be. She had bought the teammates that relied as heavily on caffeine as she did as Holiday or birthday gifts and the thermoses were stored away in one of her closets of her apartment, ready to be taken out and wrapped at the right moment. Spencer’s comment pulled her back to the present moments and she replied, “Nothing can stop a person going bad I guess. Not even a small town.” This stopped Spencer's comments on the location of the team's most recent case, and he shifted gears to talk about the psychological development of those raised in rural environments versus those raised in urban areas. y/n continued to listen to Spencer as he spoke, even if she couldn’t always keep up with his mile-a-minute commentary. She listened because Reid was a fount of knowledge and often a comment he made and maybe didn’t even remember would be helpful later on in the case. She also listened because sometimes the other members of the team didn’t when he spoke. It wasn’t that they didn’t think that what he was saying was important, it was just that they were trying to come up with their own thoughts and theories about the case. y/n was also guilty of tuning Reid out sometimes, but when she could listen to him, she did.
y/n had always been more of a listener than one to contribute to the conversation early on. y/n felt better about talking once she had more information and that normally wasn’t until the team arrived at the case's location or even saw the first crime scene. Once y/n had the bigger picture, she was ready and able to hope in and give her thoughts. Before that time came, she would listen and think about her prior knowledge. Although it might be less exciting than guessing and formulating theories, she found that often some basic information or past cases or criminals was useful when leads dropped or the case seemed to go cold. In her process, she was thinking about the future. As she had integrated into the team full-time at the beginning, Derek teased her for writing so much down in a notebook. She highlighted any relevant information the team stated or facts that seemed relevant. Morgan had joked in good humor but as the first few cases came to a close, the whole team slowly realized that she was approaching these cases from another angle, one that proved to be highly valuable at important points.
y/n settled next to Emily at her desk and pulled her go bag from underneath the space. The sound of Aaron’s door closing caught y/n’s attention. He was wearing that maroon tie she liked so much. She hadn’t told him that yet, it felt too trivial, but she really liked that tie on him. Aaron caught her eye for a moment and there was a small twinge in her chest before they quickly, discreetly looked away. Nobody knew that they were spending time together outside of work. They had to be discreet because it was mixing work and pleasure and in a place like the FBI, that didn’t just fly. y/n was sure Hotch knew everything about the rules and consequences of breaking those rules, but he hadn’t filled her in on those details. She had looked at the employee handbook but it was all legalese and it hurt her head. If she and Aaron did become more serious, and committed, she would ask him to interpret the confusing language for her. Thankfully they weren’t having a hard time keeping their work and private lives separate, yet.
Aaron felt the normal thrill of heading out to a new case. He considered the word, ‘thrill,’ thinking it wasn’t the perfect synonym for the arrival of yet another slew of murders, but it certainly wasn’t excitement either. Excitement meant something happy, something to look forward to. ‘Energized,’ his brain offered. Mentally Aaron nodded along, That would work for now. He had to be energized for this work. He wasn’t a young man anymore but there had to be a strength and calmness with him. He was the leader and even with Rossi being on the team for over a year, his agents still looked to him to make this all work. His eyes found y/n’s and there he found the look of thrill. This was still so new to her, even though she had been on the team for a while. He looked away as always, not giving into any desires that lingered when he was paying attention to his newest agent. He was grateful that y/n was professional and polite and had the utmost decorum even though outside of work they hadn’t been entirely professional. The thought of their last non-work meeting at her apartment and her heavy breathing and soft sounds on her lips, as he worked over her clothed body with his hands brought a momentatry flush to his face.
Hotch sobered as quickly as he had flushed as Dave came up beside him and said, “You ready for this?” Aaron looked over to his friend and bluntly replied, “As ready as possible, but it's still never easy.” Rossi nodded along as they both moved down the stairs and toward the parking lot. This line of work wasn’t easy. Aaron knew that every time his team left for a new case there was a chance that someone might get hurt, or even killed and no matter how good everyone was at their job, that possibility still worried him. y/n’s face popped up in his mind as he found his seat in the jet and he pushed away the thought. His relationship with her had shifted to something he wasn’t entirely sure he had under control. They hadn’t made anything official and hadn’t even said, “I love you,” yet. However, Hotch wasn’t a man who moved quickly, but as long as he and y/n had an open, honest conversation about where their feelings were headed, he wasn’t going to fight it. He had fought so many things, and people in his life that he didn’t have the desire to fight this too. Being around y/n felt good. It felt safe and he rarely got that in his life, so he was embracing it where he could. As JJ went over more of the facts and details regarding the case involving a serial killer wreaking havoc in the tiny town in Ohio, he shifted his full attention to what his media liaison was saying.
As the jet landed on the tiny airstrip, everyone got out and into the waiting SUVs. Aaron drove with Emily, Spencer, and JJ while Rossi took y/n and Derek. Spencer and Emily were discussing the need to work well with the law enforcement in the town as they were likely ingratiate into all aspects of the community. Meanwhile, JJ was preparing a statement for the media. In the other car, Derek turned from the front seat and asked, “So what are we thinking in terms of prior knowledge _y/n_?” y/n turned her gaze to Morgan’s and said, “Well strangulation is such a common signature that we’re going to have to look for something more specific to get traction here. The photos do look like this guy is strangling people from behind and the unsubs killing fit men someone who doesn't want to face what they’re really doing? Or it could be that they despise their victims so much they can’t stand to see them again, even while killing them?” Morgan nodded and elaborated on the idea that the killer might see these men as a competition of some kind. As having something the unsub lacked. This information allowed those in Rossi’s car to start to form a physical profile of the unsub. As the team made it to the small local police station, everyone got out of the parked cars and a man who appeared to be in his fifties who was balding badly came out to greet them.
Aaron stepped forward and extended his hand. The man took it and gave it a firm shake, saying, “I’m Officer Bronson. Thank you so much for you folks from coming out here.” Aaron nodded, replying, “I’m Agent, Hotchner and this is my team.” He indicated to the team, quickly introducing them. First, he gestured to JJ stating, “This is our media liaison, Jennifer Jareau.” JJ stepped forward and took the man’s slightly sweaty hand. Aaron moved through the rest of the team quickly, wanting to get the introductions over with and the real work started. He motioned to each of his agents saying, “This is David Rossi, Derek Morgan, Dr. Spencer Reid, _y/n_ _l/n_, and Emily Prentiss.” Each member nodded as Hotch said their name and Officer Bronson replied, Well welcome to Walnut Creek. I wish it was under happier circumstances. I’ll let you all get inside and out of this heat.” As the team moved into the small building, Aaron asked, “Is there a space where we can get organized and look at the evidence more easily?” Bronson nodded and led the team to a table at the back of a very small station and said, “Sorry it’s nothing fancy. I’ll have someone clean off the files and stuff off for you.” The man turned and semi-shouted, “Anderson, can you clear your junk off this table?” Anderson, a thirty-something-year-old moved around the team and got his things saying, “Sorry Chief.” Bronson looked to Aaron, almost for approval, and asked, “Will this do?” To which Hotch simply replied, “It’s fine.”
As the team settled a little y/n looked at JJ with a ‘Are you kidding me?’ expression and then looked at Anderson who was placing his numerous files on another table. JJ rolled her eyes in return. The fact that one of the officers had open files possibly containing sensitive or private data out on a table for anyone in the room to see displayed the station's lack of professionalism. The team worked up a preliminary profile and Aaron told Officer Bronson that they were ready to address his unit. Bronson called his team to the side of the room and as the officers sat down, Aaron moved forward saying, “Good afternoon, everyone. Thank you for your attention. My name is Aaron Hotchner and I’m the Unit Chief of the Behavioral Analysis Unit of the FBI. This is my team, and we’re here to coordinate with you to try and stop these killings as quickly as possible. If you have any questions please hold them to the end. We appreciate you working with us, and now I’ll let Derek Morgan deliver our preliminary profile to you.”
Aaron stepped aside to let Derek deliver the profile. Hotch had asked Morgan to deliver the profile because something about the officers sitting in front of him didn’t seem like they were convinced that they needed the team's help. Given the fact that Derek was the closest in age to many of the officers, and he could be just as intense as Aaron if he wanted, Aaron thought that the men would respect Morgan over someone like himself or Rossi. It helped that Morgan also looked more like the policemen now listening with unveiled trepidation about the profile. This was another part of the job that Aaron disliked. He not only had to profile the unsub but the law enforcement officers as well. His team and the local authorities had to work together due to bureaucratic rulings and sometimes the officers didn’t want the Bau's assistance. The idea that the team was ‘taking over’ or ‘standing on their turf’ often caused conflict. Aaron always tried to nip this conflict early. His team didn’t need to worry about that and quite frankly they all had better things to do. Aaron looked at the ten seated men, as he listened to Morgan. Most of the officers were looking at Derek, but one or two were consistently looking over at JJ, y/n, and Emily. Aaron clenched his jaw and resisted the urge to sigh. He could tell whatever conflict his team and this police unit were going to have would be an uphill battle.
Hotch noticed when the men he was working with paid a little too much attention to members of his team. Hotch couldn’t deny that y/n, JJ, and Emily were all beautiful, intelligent, and capable and that combination was attractive. However, that did not give these men a right to act lewdly or leer at them. As Derek wrapped up the profile, he fielded a few questions from the assembled crowd. With that, Chief Bronson dismissed his men. Aaron gathered the team and they broke into smaller units to look for any clues that might bring them closer to finding the unsub. Aaron, Spencer, and y/n were headed to the high school which was the scene of the latest killing. Rossi and Morgan were headed to the hospital to see the bodies of the victims to determine if there was more to the signature than just strangulation. Lastly, JJ and Emily were going to go to the press to provide a statement for the townspeople who were panicking and holding up the police phones making those who really needed help unable to get it.
In the evening as the team regrouped at the station, there was the kind of frantic energy they got once the case had really started. y/n had lots of thoughts and was ready to see what the rest of the team had discovered. She knew she wasn’t going to see much sleep tonight, so she moved to the break room where the coffee pots normally were in police stations. As she approached the room she began to overhear a conversation going on inside. The snippet she heard was, “So who are you picking, Blondie, Brunette, or _y/h/c_?” There was a laugh before the other man in the room began saying, “What about all three?” There was more laughter at this and as the unseen man began saying, “But if you’re really making me choose…” y/n walked quickly away before she could hear the answer. As she moved back to the team she thought, ‘These guys really have no standards.’ She felt slightly repulsed but did her best to ignore the feeling. As she stepped back to the table, and Aaron looked over at her, he could see that something was wrong. A few minutes later, when he was finished listening to Spencer’s geographic profile, Hotch moved to stand next to y/n. In a quiet volume, he asked, “Is everything okay?” y/n looked up at him. His expression had the smallest hint of worry, and she alleviated that fear by saying, “Yeah. It’s nothing.” Aaron nodded and said, “Okay. Tell me more about what you were saying to Derek about the point of impact, we might be able to get a height on the unsub with that information.” y/n nodded and jumped into the conversation. Aaron could tell that something was off about y/n, but he wouldn’t push it. He trusted her to handle things herself and if she needed to, he knew she would ask for help.
The night wore on and eventually, the team moved to the tiny hotel the town had. There were barely enough rooms to fit them all. The town was very cozy and picturesque in its quaintness. y/n thought about this as she drove Derek and Rossi to the hotel. She assumed it was a nice place to grow up in. To grow old in. y/n wasn’t sure where these thoughts were coming from, but she chalked it up to tiredness and the case. Because for seven men there would be no growing old here or anywhere. The sadness of that realization only made her want to solve this case more badly. There were always a lot of emotions tied to the cases they worked on, and to protect herself, she had to try and stay disconnected from the pain and hurt that the victims and the victims' families went through. But she couldn’t always hold back those emotions and now was one of those times. As everyone settled in for the night and said their goodnights, which just meant ‘I’ll be sitting up in bed reading over the same evidence as you one door down,’ Aaron walked over to y/n and said, “Goodnight, y/n.” His brief interaction with her at the precinct from earlier in the day flashed in his head. He didn’t like it when she looked upset. It made him feel nervous, so he asked, “You’d tell me if something was wrong? Wouldn’t you?” The question came out of left field and y/n blinked for a moment, not really knowing why Aaron was asking. At this point, she had sort of forgotten the rude comments being made by the officers, so she replied, “Of course I would Aaron.” At her response, Hotch infinitesimally relaxed and the two headed for the elevator together. Rossi had seen the interaction between them. He didn’t hear what they said, or that y/n had used Hotch’s first name, but he couldn't help but feel that something was there between the two agents. Perhaps it was the way Aaron leaned down a little bit to be in earshot, or the way y/n looked at his friend like nothing else around her mattered. David wouldn’t say anything yet, but he was sure he was going to start paying more attention to Aaron. Rossi wasn’t against whatever was happening between his coworkers. Aaron had had a rough few months, and he thought the man deserved some comfort.
In the morning most of the team was out hunting leads. Derek and y/n had stayed back for a minute because _y/n_ thought she had seen something new in the geographical profile. They would both head to the sight of the first body once she had looked at the board again. y/n was standing, looking at the map, engrossed in the pins Spencer had pushed into all the significant locations thus far. She just barely acknowledged when Morgan said he was going to use the men’s room. She also didn’t notice when one of the officers came up behind her. The man extended a hand and grabbed her ass giving it a squeeze. At the unwanted touch, y/n whipped around saying, “Hey!” The phrases echoed around the nearly empty office. She looked at the man, clocking his name on his badge, Monroe. There was a moment of silence before y/n incredulously said, “What was that?” Monroe gave a laugh and said, “Sorry, babe. I thought you were interested.” With that, the officer quickly left, as he noticed Derek coming back from the bathroom. Monroe nearly brushed shoulders with Morgan as they both tried to fit through the door at the same time.
When Derek got into the room, he noticed that something was off about y/n. She was standing still with a look of shock and disgust on her face. y/n tried to fix her facial features back to normal, but Morgan had seen and quickly strode into the room next to her. Derek looked her over quickly and asked, “y/n, what’s wrong?” y/n looked to the floor for a second, biting the inside of her cheek. She couldn’t really believe what had just happened. For a moment she thought about lying but knew that Morgan would keep asking until she gave in. She sighed and looked up at Morgan’s worried face, saying, “That guy just groped me.” At hearing this, Morgan turned on his heel, but Officer Monroe was halfway out the door with Officer Anderson. They were both laughing at some unheard joke. It took everything in Derek to not go over to the two men and give Monroe an unadulterated piece of his mind. However, he knew that wasn’t his place really. And he wanted to make sure y/n was okay. He turned back to _y/n_ and asked, “Are you alright? Did he hurt you?” y/n nodded her head no, saying, “No. I was just shocked, I guess.” Morgan nodded along and said, “It shouldn’t have happened, period. You need to tell Hotch.” y/n’s widened at the suggestion. It made sense of course. Issues like this were under his purview, but for some reason telling him about this made her hesitate. Before she could think about it too much Morgan repeated himself saying, “Hotch would want to know.” y/n put her palms up and said, “Fine, fine. I’ll tell him when he gets back.” Morgan gave her a look that made her say, “I promise I’ll tell him.” After a second of picturing that uncomfortable forthcoming conversation y/n said, “He’s gonna be so mad.” Derek could understand what y/n was saying but noted, “Maybe, but not at you, y/n.” There was another awkward silence before Derek finally said, “Do you need a few minutes, or would you like to head out?” Desperate for a distraction y/n, almost too quickly replied, “No. let’s go.”
At the supermarket where the first victim had been found. Morgan and y/n took notes and got the security footage. It seems like they had a real lead by finding the license plate of the van that had dumped the deceased man in the alleyway near the store's load bay. However, the footage was too grainy to make out. After finishing watching the video, y/n moved to call Garcia and see if she could enhance the video quality while Derek asked the security guard who had found the victim in the morning some questions. When she wrapped up her call with Garcia, y/n briefly slumped against the outside wall; closing her eyes. She tried to think about why talking to Hotch about what had happened with Monroe was bothering her so much. She knew that Derek was right. Hotch wouldn’t be mad at her, at all. Maybe it was a feeling of embarrassment? y/n’s logical side of her brain said that she didn’t need to be embarrassed. She hadn’t groped anyone, but the feeling persisted. Maybe because talking about the incident meant being vulnerable in front of Aaron which was all fine and good when they were alone in her apartment. But having to do so at work was entirely different. y/n let out a breath deciding to push all her feelings back for a moment. She would deal with it later. For now, she moved back inside the rendezvous with Morgan.
‘Later’ came as it always did. It was around five o’clock and the whole team was reconvening at the station. As the SUVs arrived one by one in the parking lot, everyone got out. y/n looked over the team. They all looked a little tired, but when didn’t they on a case? y/n felt the fatigue pull at her, but she knew she would find a second wind once she heard what everyone else had found out. She knew this unsub was here lurking in this little town, ready to kill again. She looked over to Aaron who was speaking to Emily about something. y/n desperately wanted coffee and she walked toward the front door as she got close, Officer Monroe walked out the door. His badge was off and it was clear that he was headed home for the day. y/n wondered if the man had a wife? Kids? The idea of it only made her more disgusted. As they neared each other she refused to make room for him on the sidewalk. She’d make him move aside for her. She wasn’t, however, going to look at him. y/n planted her gaze on the sidewalk. Much like Monroe’s unwanted touch that morning, she didn’t expect to walk into him full force. When she turned her face to the man he said, “Hey, watch where you’re going, sweetheart.” y/n could see that Monroe was actually enjoying this and she replied, “You ran into me!” Monroe smiled at seeing this woman like this -- uncomfortable. He had enjoyed the rush of her skin under his hands, and now he hoped for a repeat performance. Hardly thinking that there were others looking on, he quickly and forcefully placed a hand on her navel and then brushed downward. y/n stood stock still as this happened because she thought that it couldn’t possibly be happening. Not here in public, in broad daylight, in front of the whole team? It just couldn’t be happening.
Aaron was chatting with Emily about the profile as he looked over the team to see how they were doing. As he looked at Morgan, and Morgan returned his gaze with a facial expression that said, ‘We need to talk.’ Aaron gave the man a nod and Morgan looked over to y/n who was walking forward the precinct. Her shoulders seemed pulled tight under her shirt but in a way that hid that she was trying to hide her stress. He watched as she walked into one of the police officers from yesterday who had been overly enthused by y/n, Prentiss, and JJ’s presence. Aaron could barely hear the brief conversation between the two and as the word, “Sweetheart,” was thrown out, Aaron stiffened. And then it happened. He couldn’t fully see where or how far down the officer’s hand had landed because _y/n_ was blocking his view, but Aaron observed y/n stiffen, and that told him all he needed to know.
Before y/n could find her voice and tell Monroe to ‘get the fuck off of her,’ Aaron’s clear sharp voice addressed the officer like a whip. Like a wound aimed at the man who dared to touch y/n. Aaron was over to y/n in an instant. He placed a hand on her shoulder, firmly but gently pulling her frozen body back and behind him. Aaron towered over Monroe, and he felt his blood boil. Aaron let a harsh breath out and said, “If you value your job, and your pension you will get your hand Off. My. Agent.” Aaron highlighted each word that evinced his anger. Behind him, _y/n_ felt a wave of relief from being pulled out of that situation. Quickly Spencer and Emily were pulling y/n farther away from the scene, but she could distinctly hear Hotch say, “Get in your car and leave. Now.” Derek watched as Monroe slinked away to his car looking defeated and small. Spencer and Emily walked with y/n into the precinct, asking if she was okay, and the team as a whole huddled around her to make sure she was really alright. When she had reassured them, everyone except for Hotch moved away from y/n. Aaron placed a hand on her forearm and led her to a chair. She sat and let the exhaustion of the case, disgust at Monroe's actions, and the feeling of his hand on her body overwhelm her for a moment. A shiver ran through her. Aaron knelt down on one knee to be more on eye level with y/n. If his words before had meant to intimidate and accuse, his tone now was one of reassurance and comfort. Aaron spoke professionally but with a hint of something more that spoke to their relationship outside of work. He asked, “Be honest with me. Are you okay? Are you hurt or bruised?” Aaron’s voice helped still her thoughts and she assessed her body before saying softly, “I’m not in any pain.” She didn’t answer his first question because she didn’t particularly feel alright, but she knew she was safe now. Especially now that she was with Aaron. Aaron registered this and asked, “Has this happened before while we’ve been here?” y/n swallowed and replied, “Yes, this morning right after everyone headed out for the day.” Aaron gave her that look that said, “Elaborate please.” y/n bit her bottom lip, wondering how to phrase what had happened. Not finding any more polite or dignified terms, she said, “Morgan had stepped out and I was focusing on the bulletin board and he, um, came up behind me and grabbed my ass.” She could see the anger, the controlled rage fire through him again and she wanted to say something to reassure Aaron that she really was alright, even if she wasn’t. However, he stopped her as the Chief of Police entered the building. Aaron turned his head back to y/n and said, “Excuse me for a moment.” Then with a tone of reassurance, he said, “This conversation isn’t over.” Hotch stood and looked at Emily who understood that he was asking her to sit with _y/n_. Prentiss moved to sit next to y/n. When this was done, Aaron turned his attention to the officer who had just entered the building and said, “Chief Bronson, your office, now.” His intonation left no room for questions or delays and the older man nodded and walked into his cluttered office with Aaron on his heels. Once the door was closed Hotch turned and he felt the anger bubble up to the surface again. As Bronson asked, “What seems to be the problem?” The man sounded nervous.
From outside the glass-walled room, the team listened as their leader said, “One of your officers just assaulted a member of my team.” Bronson’s response was inaudible, but Hotch’s reply of, “What do I mean?” Could be heard clearly. At this, the team flinched, knowing that the man inside with Hotch was about to have his soul ripped from his body and handed back to him. Everyone listened as Aaron said, “What I mean is that just a few minutes ago, Officer Monroe had his hands on a member of my team in a private area. And that wasn’t the first time this has happened today.” Aaron took a steadying breath before continuing, “As much as I respect law enforcement and what you do, I’m highly concerned about what’s just happened. If someone under your authority thought they had the right to touch a federal agent, I fear what’s happening with normal residents of this town.” Bronson stumbled to find words and said, “Well I certainly don’t condone that behavior.” Aaron let out a harsh scoff, not truly believing the man saying, “Perhaps not, but that doesn’t change the fact that your officer felt entitled to do what he did. And I don’t think Monroe thought he was going to face any consequences, and I can only imagine that he assumed that because you’ve let him get away with behavior like this before.” After this, Hotch’s voice dropped lower so the team outside could no longer hear him. Derek said, “Well I think Officer Bronson has had his ‘Come to Jesus’ moment.’” That comment actually made y/n laugh and she felt a little better now that she could laugh at this whole situation. Hearing Aaron stand up for her like that made her feel warm inside in a comforted sort of way. Aaron finished unloading with the warning, “You’ll be receiving an ethics complaint from the Department of Justice as soon as I’m back in Quantico. You might consider cutting your losses before then.” With that, he got up and left the office.
Later that evening in y/n’s room, she and Aaron sat. She was sitting on the edge of the bed facing Aaron who was in the only chair in the lamplit space. This was to be a continuation of their conversation from before. y/n looked over at Hotch and saw how perturbed he looked. She felt a tug in her chest seeing him like this. He already had to deal with so much and now there was this. She started the conversation in an attempt to soothe this new hurt by saying, “Hotch, it really wasn’t that bad. He didn’t hurt me, it was just unexpected.” At her words, he dipped his head and said, “It never should have happened, y/n. He touched you without your consent twice, and I couldn’t prevent it.” y/n frowned and felt that Aaron had to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders with this job. She said, “It’s not your fault, Aaron. I know you see how they look at JJ, Em, and I.” Hotch lifted his head and placed a warm hand on her knee saying, “Of course I see, and it bothers me more than I can say. Having these men look at you is bad enough, but when one of them starts to act on those feelings, it's unconscionable.” y/n saw that she wasn’t going to make him feel any better, so instead she put her hand over his and gently rubbed over his knuckles with her thumb. She said, “I’m going to be okay Aaron. And if I’m not, I’ll let you know. Thank you for looking out for me.” Hotch let out a breath at her touch and words, simply replying, “Always, y/n. I’ll always be here.” He wanted to lean in and press his body to hers. To cover her from unwanted attention and hands. But there was still a case, and she looked tired, but he promised himself when this was solved that he would be spending a considerable amount of time either on his or her couch with y/n on his lap and his arms settled around her; as long as that was something she wanted of course.
The case wrapped up a few days later and the team headed home. On the plane ride back, y/n crashed on the couch facing Spencer. Emily, Rossi, and Morgan watched with a small amount of surprise, then a soft understanding as Hotch quietly took off his blazer and placed it over her curled, sleeping body. And when Rossi left his office and walked toward his car he stopped and made sure Aaron and y/n didn’t see him as Hotch held y/n and leaned down to kiss her forehead. As Hotch wrapped her in his arms, y/n’s hands moved to his chest, and after everything that had happened on top of the case, at least she knew that she was always safe with him.

Alright so it turns out to do the marriage thing in Rune Factory, I'd have to do a lot more than I actually want to, so...I'm good. I'm done. We're leaving now. Good show everyone, time to pack it up. Which means it's time for general thoughts! I'm sleepy, but I can do this one, I've had enough time playing it by now.
Believe it or not, this is the second Rune Factory I played. The first was Frontier, way back in...god, 2012. I got really invested in that one too. I just kinda take to these micromanagement systems. That said, there's not much I could directly tell you about that game. The things I remembered are effectively two points: (1) the farming and combat systems feel entirely disconnected, and (2) this one specific part of the game where I desperately needed Gold to upgrade my farming equipment and adventuring gear, but the only place to get it was this one (1) room in the second dungeon I think, so I had to spend hours just reloading the same room for the rare spawn of Gold.
So going into this game, I expected to find myself going through two different games that are stapled together, and to find myself eventually facing mind-numbing grinding for resources. A bit presumptuous, but series don't tend to change that much over time. It seemed a safe estimation.
On the first point...that is exactly what it's like. A lot of the things going on in this game are completely disconnected, for better or worse. Farming and gathering gold is one task, but your development of equipment is another. You can aim to be mostly self-sufficient as an adventurer and largely disregard farming, and still be fine on profit if you ship off valuable materials as well. It's flexible in that way...but on the flip side, I think that trying to keep up with both can often come into open conflict.
If I'm looking at getting through a particular dungeon to progress things, the last thing I want is for this to be a day when all my crops grew in. But, that happens. And on those days, you instead spend a huge chunk of time dedicated to harvesting, re-tilling the soil, planting new crops, etc. It's a bit frustrating at times, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't at least partially a me problem. There are others games where, when I get into the aspect of, say, exploring, the last thing I want is getting caught up in cutscene dialogue with characters in town. Which...happens in this game too. But sometimes their dialogue is warning you of a typhoon but you're so used to skipping through to keep gameplay flow that you miss it.
On the second point...for main game, it's actually not bad. There's really only two points where I felt like I needed to grind something out, and unfortunately it's rare drops off general monsters. Things like finding Gold were a lot more standardized, with guaranteed locations in set places that kept things flowing well. Balance doesn't really feel like it breaks apart until you can get the Wind Vest. At that point, you're looking for two rare materials - Wind Crystal from Ruby deposits, and Black Feather from a particular monsters. Acquiring those and knowing this recipe creates a better piece of armor than you'll have the entire rest of main game, and you will be invincible. Right up until Cloudheim, at which point you start taking real damage that gets significantly more real over the SEED Fortress and Calamity's End, at which point things feel dire. I am certain you can win, you just need to be better about how to play the game. But what's odd is all equipment through this part of the game is objectively worse. There's nothing better to make, so if you missed how to get these materials, you're gonna have a rough time. And the upgrade that happens at Calamity's End comes from the rare drop of the Garmr enemies, which makes a new absurd armor that's so strong you will take 0 damage from the final boss.
The grind isn't really bad, but the balance is by late-game. There's no real sense of "just right" difficulty. You're routinely either shitstomping everything, or in a rare slump period where you can't make better stuff and are close to getting stomped yourself, if not outright getting slapped shitless. Heinz' rotating stock can get you out of this, but that's a random way to have to get past a roadblock. And it was also the only way I could get past the Yellow Dragons in the postgame dungeon, because I didn't know fist weapons could bypass defenses and were a possible solution, I just knew my big swords dealt no damage and it hit for 2/3rds of my life per swing. I had to get Dangerous Scissors out of Heinz on accident to make progress.
That's really where things start getting rough. The further you go, the more you need to rely on rare drops. And by rare, I'm talking things going down to like 0.5%. There are ways to improve this up to like 19%, but those methods are unknowable in game. Through upgrading a weapon with a rare can, upgrading any equipment with 4-Leaf Clover, and keeping a Happy Ring on, you can boost item rate. Only the last of those three mentions this as an effect. The other two are, on their surface, useless. It tells you nothing. What's extra baffling is that the effects stack if your three companions on an adventure also have these buffs. Never explained, no reason to suspect it works that way. It is a wildly different experience, knowing that. But without it, the best equipment may as well not even exist, and most of the mid-tier stuff doesn't either, because drop rates are so unreliable.
And even with it, 19% isn't great odds either. There is a metric ton of soft-resetting to get equipment. And the sickening part? I beat the final superboss, who couldn't even hurt me, with only two pieces of armor. The other three weren't done. They were way behind the power curve. And we destroyed that fight no sweat. This game has options for equipment that go way beyond anything that's ever going to be needed.
Which is fine, I don't entirely mind that, even if I think it's a bit goofy. I think the bigger problem is that my equipment wasn't done, not because I didn't know how to make it, but because RP costs were ridiculously high, because crafting and forging levels improve so painfully slowly that I couldn't reach that goal. It's really bad. I'm talking "forge like 80 platinum hoes for one (1) level" once you reach level 90. Anything else that high level requires such rare items it's not worth it, because the best you'll ever see is maybe 25% of a level. It absolutely sucked. Especially because the base RP costs being so high means any hope of doing it without the recipe means needing more RP than can ever be acquired.
For odds and ends, it's probably worth noting I didn't do marriage. I couldn't justify the slow grind of friendship points to ten from where I was. I did one date. I did not finish all quests. I got to a few that were all about giant flowers and giant golden veggies, and the Autumn Grass quest showed the day after mine bloomed but it didn't count the ones I already got, and those take like 31 days to harvest, which was the breaking point that got me to stop. This also may be a Switch-specific thing, I'm never sure, but load times were brutal. While soft-resetting for drops, I swear I spend more time in loading screens than I do playing the game.
I'd be lying if I said I came away from this game feeling negative about it, but I can't say the experience is 100% positive either. There are a lot of faults, but I do enjoy things like this. The building up of your own equipment, the lopsided balance that lets you get ridiculously overpowered with weird difficulty spikes, the getting to know a cute cast of characters, the combat mixed with creation style gameplay; it all feels very reminiscent of a series I absolutely adore: Atelier. And I think that comparison really puts a light on why this game comes out on the positive end, but much more lukewarm.
Atelier, when it reaches endgame, becomes addictive to the point I get mad about having to go to work. It's wildly engaging, because so much of its system is on charting a path from one item to another, in a chain to the final product. Depending on the game, a lot of this involves passing along skills and skill combinations, which are easily understood because it's just two values of the same type combining to bigger effects. The need to gather materials, while specific, often comes down to knowing where to look rather than farming drop rates, and there are more assured workarounds when drop rates are the primary source. More often than not, you're looking for item categories rather than something specific, and because traits are largely inherited and crafted materials can cycle, there are myriad ways to achieve a goal for the innovative.
Rune Factory's system lacks this. Most of its crafting and forging materials are very specific in what they need, and while upgrades can transfer certain effects, the game often doesn't tell you what they are. At most you know some stat numbers, but equipment outright contradicts itself in places, like the Diamond Brooch showing Poison Res +100% alone, but stating it negates all status. It needs specific, high-end materials; am I really supposed to make this and just trust it does what the words say, or do I trust the numbers and skip? There are a lot of issues on that front. Moreover, the level discrepancy is severe. While Atelier games can deny creating items based on synthesis level, this is often easily overcome by just making some stuff before it, and depending on the game, there are methods to increase your odds of success to a near-guarantee regardless of how low the starting rate is. In RF5, even being one level below the target for postgame equipment means needing more RP than you can have without Relax Tea, and unless you hit that threshold, it fails. Given how tedious the grind is to make those levels, it's...a serious problem.
All this to say, Rune Factory's problem feels like it just stalls out too often as you look for ways to get those rare materials via soft resetting, or have to look up how to boost drop rates because holy shit this is untenable, and finding out there's too much going on that's impossible to know without external input. It's just not particularly streamlined. The main game works just fine, I have zero qualms with that, but postgame is horrid. It does not hold up, and that's where quite a few of the Atelier games started to really take off for me. I guess what I'm really saying is, I had a generally positive time, but if I were in the mood for this style of game and had the choice, I'd sooner reach for Atelier. And maybe you should too. Did you know the Arland, Dusk, and Mysterious trilogies are on Switch e-shop? Maybe check those out. I promise, there's only one progress-annihilating bug, and the work-around is more outrageous than you could possibly imagine.

Young Rock, Episode 2.8: Dwayne hits the big time, with lots of locker room beefcake
Young Rock is a fictional autobiographical series about the childhood of Dwayne Johnson, the Rock, bookended by his presidential bid in 2033 (the U.S. could do worse: Dwayne is a gay ally), Miles Burris (Titus in The Righteous Gemstones) plays Hunter Hearst Hemsley, a flamboyant blond wrestler. He is probably a parody of Gorgeous George (1915-1963), who riled up the audience by pretending to be gay. I'll review his first appearance, in Episode 2.8.
Scene 1: Johnson Family Ranch, 2033, three days before the election. Dwayne's bromantic partner, Randall Park, and his staff are waiting in the kitchen. The doctor comes out of his room and says "I don't think he's going to make it...to his campaign event tonight!" (Har-har). He's got food poisoning from bad clam chowder. "And he's asking for his boyf...best buddy."
Scene 2: Dwayne tells his boyf...best buddy Randall that he's going to the event anyway. When you face a challenge, you meet it head-on, like he did in 1996 when he got a call... flashback....the WWF is taping in Corpus Christi, and they want him for a "dark match" (before the main match, to get the crowd revved up). His first professional wrestling gig! He just needs to quit his job at the gym and borrow some wrestling gear.
Scene 3: Dwayne (Uli Latukefu) arrives in Corpus Christi, and is picked up by his opponent, Steve Lombardi (Scott Colton), The Brooklyn Brawler, a 32-year veteran who broke his dad into wrestling years ago. So this guy is over 50 and still wrestling? The arena is sold out -- 15,000 fans.
Scene 4: Back in 2033, bromantic partner Randall asks if Dwayne was scared. "No -- I was where I wanted to be."
Next Dwayne meets the man in charge of his match, ex-wrestler Michael P.S.Hayes (Brad Burroughs). The PS stands for "Purely Sexy." His advice: "Follow the Brawler's lead, and keep it simple. You got six minutes. "But how do you want me to go over (lose the match)?" Hayes and Brawler both laugh: "Kid, we flew you here to win."
Dwayne is shocked. Winning is unheard-of for your first match! He wants to call his parents, but there's no time. Anyway, they're getting the scoop on a WWF chatroom on America Online (if you remember AOL, you're getting brochures from the AARP).
Scene 5: Locker room. While dressing (or undressing), Dwayne is greeted by The Iron Sheik (Brett Azar), a retired "heel" (bad guy) who has moved into heel management. He promises to call Dwayne's parents. during the match to give them updates. Gee, these wrestlers are a big happy family.
Dwayne also meets Stone Cold Steve Austin (Luke Hawx) who will one day revolutionalize wrestling, but now is stuck in a non-speaking persona; Downtown Bruno (Ryan Pinkston, below), The Undertaker, Mantaur, and Mankind (Brock Dunstan), his future tag-team partner. Mankind thinks that winning his first match is a bad idea, since if he wins and the crowd doesn't like him, he'll be finished as a wrestler.
Finally, a long-haired blond in a fancy suit, carrying a cane (he "looked like he was late for a fox hunt"), introduces himself as Hunter Hearst Hemsley, or Triple-H ( Miles Burris). He will become world champion 14 times, one of the Rock's most important heels, and off-stage, one of his closest friends. They spar with each other, but without using any feminine-slurs. Ok, so not a parody of Gorgeous George after all, a real wrestler. He built his persona as rich-snob rather than feminine-gay.
Scene 6: Showtime! Everyone gives Dwayne encouragement: "It doesn't matter if you wrestle for ten years or ten minutes. You make this moment happen!" He walks out, waves to the crowd, ignores the heckler who asks "Who the hell are you?" The Brooklyn Brawler comes out, threatens the crowd, and gets booed. "Six minutes to change the course of my life," Dwayne thinks. Of course he's going to win, but he has to do it in a way that excites the fans.
They wrestle; Dwayne actually throws the Brawler into a somersault! I thought it was impressive, but the crowd jeers. Back stage, Triple-H laughs. Hey, are you still playing a character, or are you actually a bully? The Iron Sheik suggests Dwayne show his legs, get some sexiness going on.
When the Brawler starts pulverizing Dwayne, the crowd is silent. Uh-oh, they're supposed to sympathize. "What do we do now?" Dwayne asks, panicking. "Just sell it for awhile. If the crowd cares about you, they'll respond."
So Dwayne plays at being in pain, and the love of the underdog kicks in. The crowd starts encourage him to fight. As if strengthened by their encouragement, Dwayne bounces back and uses amazing acrobatic moves to finish off the Brawler. Everyone backstage is ecstatic. The kid has showmanship!
Scene 7: Back in 2033, Randall wants to talk about his first stage experience: in college he starred in an all-Asian version of The Hudsucker Proxy. This puts Dwayne to sleep, so Randall says "Sweet dreams, Big Prince," and leans over to kiss him. Dwayne wakes up, and he backs off. I take it you're hoping to move the bromance into boyfriend territory? The end.
Beefcake: Lots. Half the episode takes place in the locker room, with those muscle studs walking around in those skimpy little wrestling tights.
Heterosexism: None. Young Dwayne has a brief telephone conversation with someone who may be his girlfriend. Only one insult about someone's lack of sexual practice. No homophobic slurs.
Gay Characters: None that I know of. There are wikipedia pages for 48 "openly" gay professional wrestlers, but none of the guys in this episodes.
Gay Subtexts: Deliberate, with Randall Park being in love with Dwayne.
The Inside Scoop: The inside look at pro wrestling was interesting, and the pop-ups useful in figuring out who these guys were. Dwayne is a little too quick to tell us the moral of the story, but after all he is supposed to be sharing his wisdom.
My Grade: A-

So I beat the mech bosses in master mode melee (with a bit of summoner) terraria
After I beat queen slime, I went back to the ice biome to try and get a frozen turtle shell. I didn't get that, but I did finally get myself a frostbrand!
I also did the torch god event in a tiny granite biome. Probably not the best place to do it but it worked.
The twins showed up one night so I decided to try out my bananarangs against them. It actually went pretty decently until I got to the living trees part of my skybridge which didn't have enough space to dodge.
I wanted to get a bladetongue and some ichor so I bought some crimson seeds and tried to get some blocks for an artificial crimson.
It... took a while for me to get anywhere with that.
While waiting for that to happen, I fought the goblin army a couple times and finally got the warlock to drop a shadowflame knife instead of that dang hex doll! Now I could set my enemies on 4 kinds of fire at once >:)
I decided to give the twins another go with the knife, and died really fast. This happened a few more times.
Back on the grind I finally had enough crimson to set up a nice fishing spot.
I got a bunch of good stuff from it, but I still couldn't kill the dang twins.
Eventually I got annoyed and decided to restock on potions and summoning items from a free items server to save time. I actually killed spazmatism this time, but I'd run away so fast that retinazer had despawned. The next time I tried, however...
I got the mini twins first try too! I killed them again and got safeman's set!
I needed to kill them another time to get full hallowed armor, but that wasn't too much of an issue. I'm starting to run out of room for more trophies...
I decided to go look for some life fruit in the (hallowed) underground jungle. It took a while but I found some!
My first fight with the destroyer went decently, even though I just sat in the air in my pirate ship for most of it. I got it's health down really low before I was overwhelmed by lasers. Skeletron prime went a lot worse, so I was going to do destroyer first. I'd just need some bulkier armor and more health regeneration.
Before I killed the twins, I'd farmed the old one's army tier 1 to get the defender medals I'd need to afford full squire armor and a ballista cane asap. I'd then gone and completely forgot about that plan. I remembered it now, and went to buy all the stuff from the tavernkeep. Then I decided to give tier 2 old one's army a go. It was intense, but I was handling myself decently until wave 6. I tried to take on too many flying enemies at once and died. Surely it was over. I ran back to my arena as wave 7 began. I pelted the ogre with shadowflame knives. It got to the crystal and promptly died. Had I won? Not quite, apparently. I had another ogre to fight. I was sure the crystal would run out of health before I killed this ogre, but it hung in there and I won first try.
I realised the squire armor would be perfect for the destroyer. It had high defense, nice regeneration and I could back myself up with 4 piercing ballistas.
This probably would have been fine, but I wanted to give myself as much of a chance as possible. I built myself a nice sky platform with some blocks to shelter and plenty of honey pools.
The fight was trivial. My ballistas rained down bolts and I rained down shadowflame knives when I wasn't dealing with the probes as they flew up. I was even able to kill it twice in one night.
Now, I just needed to beat skeletron prime. But first, I wanted to farm the destroyer to get its master mode pet! Unfortunately the game said no, you're fighting skeletron prime tonight. With plenty of buffs and a lot of flying around, I took down the last mechanical boss with help from my destroyer arena's honey pools.
I had to start mining out a new row for trophies!
Fortunately, my life fruit jungle farm also served up a plantera bulb. Now it was just a matter of gearing up for that big fight.

If any of you are ever approaching finals week and are feeling panicked, just reassure yourself that there is a very small margin of "worse" you could reach when taking your test compared to what happened to me tonight.
Alright, so I had this history final tonight and let's just say shit went real sour real fast. I had class at 5:30pm and I knew it was going to be a really long night from the get-go because we had to get through half of the class's project presentations, whoever didn't present on Monday when we were supposed to go but ran out of time, plus four group presentations and then the final exam. Because my jaw's been bugging me a lot in the past week, I decided to take some ibuprofen in hopes that it'll dull some of the pain and I'd actually be able to enjoy dinner tonight before class. It's my mom's 50th birthday so she decided she wanted Philly cheesesteaks for dinner which is great 'cause they're one of my favorite meals. So anyway, I took two ibuprofen tablets, had some dinner, and then finished getting ready and headed off to class. We took care of the group presentations first, and my group went second which was great. It meant we wouldn't have to sit around waiting for very long. We got it done, it went well, we did a really good job, whatever. It wasn't until after the fact that I felt it: my anxiety was starting to hype up. I tried sitting through the rest of the group presentations and the individual presentations afterward but my panic was escalating rapidly and I started feeling really funky. My heart rate was rising and my hands were cold and clammy and my stomach was churning, I kept feeling like I was going to throw up. I was dizzy, the room felt like it was spinning. I kept trying to tell myself I had nothing to worry about, that I had already done my group presentation (I did my individual presentation Monday night), all I had left to do was the test and I was prepared so it shouldn't be a massive deal. I had nothing to worry about. And yet my anxiety kept hyping up. I ended up leaving the room three times in a row: once to go the bathroom and try to regroup, another time to get some fresh air, and yet another almost immediately after, making it look like I was pretending to get a phone call so it would give off the illusion that I had an excuse for slipping out a third time and then I proceeded to call my boyfriend in hopes of gaining some reassurance through a quick pep talk. He told me just to take deep breaths and focus on what I needed to get done tonight and nothing else, which I tried really hard to do but even afterward when I went back inside that small auditorium, I still couldn't get a grip on myself. I ended up going up to my teacher at the end of whoever was presenting's presentation and telling her "I don't know if I can make it through the rest of the class, I feel really sick. I want to try and stick it out but if I can't, would there be any way I can make up the final exam?" to which she said I'd have to go visit the testing center to see if I could reschedule a make-up final. I told her I'd try to stick it out and she said okay. So I went back to my seat and struggled through the next person's presentation but I was obviously struggling, hyperventilating and visibly shaking. After that person went, my teacher called me out into the hallway and basically told me to just go home, that she'd find someone to proctor my make-up at some point in the next week. I thought that was really generous of her and I was grateful she was willing to work with me around this unexpected and massive panic attack but on the other hand, I felt horrible knowing I'd have to make the damn thing up. I'm moving clear across the state bright and early Friday morning so my schedule is insanely tight and having to make up the exam just further complicated things. And I was also mad at myself. I was angry I didn't have the strength to stick it out and get it over with. I called my mom once I left the auditorium and told her what happened, on the verge of tears both in anger at myself and fear that my dad would be mad at me for skipping out like that. She said my dad was on his way down to campus to pick me up and she agreed to stay on the phone with me until she got there. I didn't hang up until I was out at the front of the campus and saw my dad's car parked in the parking lot and my dad himself walking up the walkway towards me. I thought he was there to just pick me up and take me home but nope, he said he wanted to sit down and talk with me a bit to see if we could get me to calm down so I could go back in and take the test tonight. I was a little pissed he was so stuck on me doing the thing tonight-- I mean, obviously I was very shaken up and my teacher already told me to just go home, that we'd reschedule for me to make up the exam, whatever, but i wasn't exactly in a state to argue so I sighed and obliged. My dad and I sat on campus and talked a little bit during which I realized that even if I didn't have much strength to walk back in that classroom and tell my teacher I wanted to try and get through the test, I didn't have much of a choice. I didn't have time to reschedule. Making up the test would be cutting things far too close and I knew that. That was part of the reason why I felt so angry with myself for getting dismissed and essentially giving up in the first place, because I knew we were running on a tight schedule here and I felt like I was ruining everything, setting us back, whatever. So with this realization fueling me, I basically stood up and grabbed my bag and told my dad "Come on, I'm gonna go back in there." I did have to stop a couple times just to kind of take a breather and swallow back massive waves of nausea but I did what I had to do. I walked in there and went right up to my teacher and told her, "I think I want to try and take the test. I don't think I have time to make it up. I've had a lot on my plate and I'm moving to the other end of the state on Friday morning so I don't have time to make it up." You'd think from here everything would be super easy, smooth sailing, right? Nope. Turns out she said she ran out of tests so she had to think of a different way for me to take the test. What ended up happening was she projected the word document of the test onto the projector in the auditorium and had me sit at this table in front of it and basically do the whole thing on notebook paper which was...interesting, to say the least. I pretty much almost threw up three times during the entire duration of the test. My hand was shaking uncontrollably to the point where you might guess I was a Parkinson's patient just by my scratchy handwriting. My other hand was gripping the edge of the table the entire time as if I was gonna fall off the edge of the earth if I didn't white knuckle it. My entire body was still shaking so hardcore that it looked like I was having a seizure or was in the midst of my own personal little earthquake. It was terrible. But I had studied for this exam and was so ready to get it over with. My teacher didn't post the final exam review until a few hours before class was supposed to start so I spent a good portion of the afternoon basically cramming, meaning all the information was still fresh in my brain, I just needed to dump it all out onto the page (without dumping my dinner out with it). So that's what I did. I barely even read all the questions out before knowing the answers right off the bat and just jotting them down. Doing the test on notebook paper made things a bit tougher, especially with handwriting as horrible as mine was tonight, but it wasn't until I was a little more than halfway through the test that a girl came up to hand in her test only to discover that the missing exam was stuck between the pages of her own so I was able to pick up where I left off on the notebook paper on the actual test. I got the whole thing done in about ten minutes which was miraculous since I was shaking the entire room and holding back from vomiting the entire time but I got it done and that's all that matters. I apologized to my teacher for how awful my handwriting was and she told me it was fine and told me she hoped I'd feel better. My dad was waiting outside for me when I came out, surprised I had actually taken the test because of how quickly I was in and out. I almost broke down in tears once I got out and he gave me a big hug and told me he was proud of me, that he knew I'd get it done, then carried my bag for me as we walked back to the car. It wasn't until I got home that I realized one of the big culprits behind why I had spiralled into such an intense and overwhelming panic attack, though: it turns out the medicine I took earlier wasn't ibuprofen. It was acetominophen and the two big tablets I gulped down before dinner had a combined caffeine content of 130mg. For someone who never consumes caffeine, has a lower-than-normal BMI/weight, and has IBS on top of that, no wonder I was fucked up. I was accidentally high. I may have even faced a slight caffeine overdose, who the fuck knows? Either way, all I know is that despite all of that, I still took the test and am pretty sure I aced it (or at least god, I hope I did. It'd be funny if I got a perfect score or something but we'll see what happens.) If nothing else, at least my drive can be considered admirable. Took an entire final exam while high off my ass and shaking like there's no tomorrow. God fucking dammit.
#so in a nutshell#tonight was motherfucking wild oh my god#i feel way better now at least#still a little off but the majority of the high has essentially worn off#but i think it's safe to say this is the second worst testing experience i've ever ahd#the first still being that time in sixth grade when i puked down the entire hallway before a standardized test#that will always take the cake as the worst experience ever#but still#oh my fucking god tonight was awful#jfc#so yeah#when you're gearing up for finals remember: it could be a lot worse#you could be sitting there mildly overdosing during your exam#it's real fun#that was sarcasm#it was not indeed fun at all#ramblings

May I request something with pining naruto characters (you're choice) or having a huge crush on reader? But the reader is oblivious, they can be so smart yet so dumb at the same time 😅
I like this! I hope this lives up to your standards!!!! 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕 thanks for the request!

CRUSHING HARD
Ft. Shikamaru Nara
SHIKAMARU NARA
“And with that, I win. And you, for the first time in a long time, you lose.” Taking the final piece, you poked his chest, leaning over the game table. He grimaced and rolled his eyes. His heart raced a little as you hovered over him, and he did all he could not to let his face turn red even when he held his breath. No blood flow, no blood flow! He scoffed to cover his exhale and faked a yawn. “Yeah, yeah, whatever.” He frowned.
He loosened up as you returned to your stance and spot. “I won, so that means you have to describe the person you like.” That was part of the stupid deal the two of you had made before starting the game. “Damn it, are you kidding me?” But remember, Shikamaru was smart. He could make this cool. It was the perfect confession. And if she didn’t reciprocate, he’d pass it off as a joke.
“She has the most unique personality that I’ve ever found in a person. My age, shorter than me, with nice legs and a kind of aloof but intelligent face, to match her mind. Not too high maintenance and she loves to hang out no matter what we are doing. Is good at a lot of things I am and always poses a competition. “ Shikamaru thought he had cleared most all the bases, but your blank expression told him otherwise.
Meanwhile, your heart was dropping as you listened like a withering rose drained of moisture. Though, you felt like you wanted to cry.
“She’s always a little bit tired, but she gets shit done, she’s trusted around the village and she has a big heart and love for the people in it. She’s respectful of people’s boundaries and yet she isn’t afraid to push them to be their very best. She’s my best friend and-“
“She sounds awesome, Shikamaru.” You stopped him, a tear fell down form your face and you cursed yourself for not catching it. Unable to fathom it could be you, you wondered why you put yourself through the grief of asking the question. Maybe you had originally hoped he would win and then you could tell him and get it over with, but now you were here with a broken heart.
You stood up and slipped on your vest. “I’m gonna go. I’m really happy you’ve found someone that you like.” You hated this. You hated yourself. Was this manipulative? Being sad about it? You should be happy for your best friend, but the fact that he wouldn’t be your boyfriend- it blocked you from that.
Shikamaru changed gears the second he saw your eyes gloss, then he saw the tear. When you stood, so did he. Fuck, did he give too much away? Was she into someone else? Or did she… did she not get it was her. On the verge of losing you, Shikamaru came forward to take hold of your shoulders. “Hey, what’s this crying for, (y/n)?” He asked, tone stripped of any snark and replaced with genuine concern.
“I just… I just… I’m sorry I-“ Now you were crying worse. There was no hiding, no fixing it now. You just had to tell him. “I was hoping maybe… maybe you liked me.”
Shikamaru paused. He resisted the urge to laugh in your face. “Oh boy.” He sighed in relief. You really were so smart and so dense at the same time. Though, he thought the same way.
Then, with nothing to speak, Shikamaru did something that wasn’t calculated or planned. He kissed you. He was pushing you back against the wall of the outside of his family home, one hand on your jaw, and he kissed you.
The world was spinning and all of konoha around you two disappeared as his soft lips touched yours, and it felt as if you were dreaming.
He parted from your mouth but did not leave from your face, propping his arm up above you. “Did you not just hear all that stuff I was saying about you?” He chuckled.
You blinked. “I thought you were talking about someone else.” He laughed again at your answer.
“Are you kidding me? All these other broads pale in comparison to you.” Pulling away completely he began to pick up the shogi board. “Now don’t be a drag and dry your face. I’ll take you out for a date.”

hi!! are your reacts still open? if not please ignore this lmao. i was wondering if i can get nv companions reacting to a courier suffering chem withdrawal?
also, i adore your writing!! you characterize everyone so accurately and well, by far my favorite fallout writer ❤️❤️
Thank you, anon 💙💛 I strive for good characterization in all of my works, so it means a lot for you to point it out
TW: Bodily fluids, physical illness
After returning from their latest excursion, the courier didn't leave their suite in the Lucky 38 for nearly two days. While the Securitron forces in the casino went about their routines as usual, the courier's companion grew restless. There were only so many times they could wander the Strip, look through Robert House's possessions, and ride the elevator before they found themselves staring out the penthouse windows, wondering what was keeping the courier isolated. It had been a routine package delivery, or so they thought... had something gone wrong?
Near the end of the second day, the courier's companion finally convinced the Securitron that guarded the presidential suite to stand down. They found the courier in the master bedroom: Ashen-faced, shaky, curled into a ball of blankets, and clinging to a metal bucket for dear life. They offered their companion a weak, pained smile once they caught sight of them. "De... detox," they said, by way of explanation. "I decided... I decided it was time."
Arcade Gannon: "Oh, Six." Arcade sank onto the bed next to them and took in their disheveled appearance. Their posture suggested stomach cramps, and the sweat on their forehead and hands were hallmarks of fever. By the looks of the bucket, nausea and vomiting were on the menu, too - they were well into the worst of the symptoms. "I told you to tell me, if you ever wanted to get clean."
"I know." The courier turned a little more green and buried their face in the bucket in anticipation. Their mournful voice bounced along its aluminum sides. "I just didn't want you to see me like this."
"Hey." Arcade steadied the bucket for them, sliding his fingers over theirs. They were clammy, trembling. "I've seen you in worse conditions. Remember that time you got between a night stalker and her pups?"
Their response was a fresh round of puke and some coughing. Arcade rubbed their back and sighed. "You know, I told you to come to me because there are chems that can help you work through this a little easier."
"Chems to treat the chems." The courier wiped their mouth and sniffed. "Doesn't that defeat the purpose of the whole thing?"
"Not if the chem's name is literally 'Addictol,' and it's been used to ease addiction symptoms since before the Great War." Arcade gently began to unwind them from their blanket cocoon. "Come on. You're lucky enough to have a shower and a wardrobe full of clothes. We can go visit Julie together, I know she has some doses hidden in her desk at the fort."
"Can't we just send a Securitron?" the courier moaned.
"Nope. Get up. You shouldn't be doing this alone, anyway."
Craig Boone: "Good." Boone grabbed a nearby chair and turned it around, facing the courier over its back as he took a seat across from them.
"What are you doing?" the courier asked, resigned. "Just watching me suffer?"
"Do you need water?" Boone asked.
When the courier nodded, Boone got up from his chair and retrieved a glass of water from the adjacent bathroom. Noting the courier's shaking hands, he steadied the glass as they drank from it.
"There was always one, every round of training," he said when they were finished. He set the glass on a nearby nightstand and sat back down in the chair he'd claimed. "New recruits looking for gear and meals. Not knowing they'd lose everything they came in with, and that chems are hard to come by in the NCR elite forces. We sat up with them, until they made it through. Or didn't."
"Swell." The courier wretched into their bucket a bit. "I've made it two days already. Think I'm cut out for the NCR?"
When Boone didn't answer, the courier made a face at the contents of the bucket. "I always thought this would be a breeze. I'd pop some Med-X and come down easy, prove I was invincible like everyone says I am. Would you believe me if I said this was me using Med-X, and that I'd probably be long gone if I hadn't?"
The corner of Boone's mouth turned up sympathetically. "You're stronger than most, Six, but you aren't invincible. No one is."
"Will you stay with me?"
In response, Boone settled deeper into his chair.
Lily Bowen: "Dearie, why didn't you say anything?" Lily demanded. "If you aren't feeling well, Grandma can make you chicken noodle soup and find you some crackers and peanut butter."
"Even if you did manage to find chickens or peanuts, I don't think I could keep anything down at this point," the courier replied. They tilted their bucket forward to illustrate their point. "All I've had today is water, and even that's giving my stomach a rough time."
"Broth, then." Lily caressed their clammy face and began writing a grocery list out loud. "Maybe some fruit, some tea... not the sugary kind, the hot kind, for your throat... you like melons, pumpkin, don't you? Grandma can go get some melons from the marketplace in Freeside, make some ice pops from the juice."
"What's..." The courier coughed, a dry wheeze. "What's... an ice pop?"
"Oh, you'll love a good ice pop," Lily assured them. "Stay right here. Grandma will be back in a bit."
About two hours later, the nightkin was back with a hot mug of bone broth and some very dry Potato Crisps, and she coaxed the courier into trying a little of both. To the courier's surprise, they were able to keep it down, and they munched and sipped at the salty food in moderation. Lily cleaned their bucket out while they ate and unearthed a thermometer in one of the Lucky 38's first aid kits, which she thrust upon them at frequent intervals to monitor their fever.
By the time the melon ice pops had frozen in the presidential suite's refrigerator, the courier was asleep. Lily watched over them lovingly as they tossed and turned, and when the Securitron guard came to check on the pair, she frowned so ferociously that it spun right around and didn't come back until morning.
Raul Alfonso Tejada: Raul put a hand to the courier's forehead. Even through his ruined, twisted knuckles, he could feel they were burning up. "Te duele la cabeza?" he asked.
The courier nodded under his fingers. "Like I have a cazador buzzing around in there."
Raul screwed his mouth up in concern. "We should get you to a doctor. If you can't keep things down, you're probably all dried out. Like me, if I'm left in the sun too long."
That earned him a slightly wider smile. "Like a raisin?"
"Sí, like a raisin." Raul smiled back at them. "Might as well bake me up con queso en la capirotada. You're dehydrated, Six. Let's get you to Julie, or Arcade if she's not around."
"I can't move," the courier whined. "Does Julie make house calls? Casino calls? Arcade has to, and he owes me-"
Rather than argue, Raul slid his arms under their frame and lifted them free of the bed. The courier yelped in surprise, but the old ghoul crushed them against his chest and eased their weight around until he could stand comfortably. "You're heavy," he said reproachfully.
"Put me down," the courier insisted. "Or get one of the Securitrons to do this, viejo."
"'Viejo' this, 'viejo' that." Raul shook his head and headed toward the elevator with them. "I'll probably outlive you, too, Six. Consider that, next time you decide to detox all on your lonesome."
"I was, that's why I didn't tell you I was going to."
"Pendejo."
Rose of Sharon Cassidy: "Shit, Six, why would you do a damn fool thing like this?" Cass asked, clearly nettled.
"I thought..." The courier grimaced. "I thought you'd be... happy."
"That you're kicking that poison? Absolutely." Cass rolled her eyes. "That you tried to do it without telling me first? Not in the least. Better people than you have died, trying to ride their demons out alone."
She seized the bucket from them and disappeared into the suite's bathroom to rinse it out. When she returned, she had a wet washcloth in her hands and the worn copy of Tales of a Junktown Jerky Vendor that usually sat next to the toilet. She slapped the washcloth onto the courier's forehead, plunked the bucket down in front of them, and settled into a nearby armchair with the magazine. "If you're coming off that stuff for good, you need someone to make sure you don't choke on your own sick, and you need a distraction," she explained. "Normally I'd say the best distraction is a stiff drink, but seeing as you are where you are, it might just make things worse."
"So why the magazine?" the courier asked, settling the bucket back between their knees.
Cass flipped it open and paged around a bit. "Because there's a quiz in here that they ripped straight out of some other pre-war book, and I want to know what your results are."
"What's the quiz?"
"'What Are You Best Fitted For: Love or a Career?' I took it a while back, and it told me I'm cut out for love, but only just by a hair - it was practically a tie. Dying to know what it has to say about you."
"Oh, fucking hell, Cass..."
Cass cleared her throat and shook the magazine theatrically. "'Question one: Would you be inclined to look down on your partner if they made less money than you?' Now, I said yes, but only in the sense that I'd find it funny."
Veronica Santangelo: Before the courier could protest, Veronica had climbed into bed with them. She seized their face in her hands and peered deeply into their eyes. "How's your focus? Sense of balance? Can you see me okay? Did you take anything for pain, or try to go out with a bang and use everything in the medicine cabinet up?"
"God, no." The courier tried to push Veronica away, but their arm was weak on her torso.
"What did you do with the rest of the chem stash, then?"
"I sold it." The courier coughed a few times. "On my way back. Got rid of it all over in Westside."
"Good." Veronica released them and sat back on the bed covers. "You know I'm going to rummage through the whole suite just in case, right? Probably the rest of the casino, too."
"I know."
"Oh, Six." Even though the courier looked like they'd been dunked in Lake Mead and wrung out by an angry yao guai, Veronica beamed at them. "I'm proud of you. This sort of thing isn't easy, at all."
"Tell me about it." The courier smiled back, between coughs. "I can't get warm, and I feel like I swallowed centaur acid or something."
In response, the Brotherhood Scribe crawled under the blankets and snuggled up to them. "I can help with one of those," she said. "Here, get under my arm."
The courier obliged, sinking down to settle into her embrace. Veronica squeezed them tightly. "I've got body heat to spare. We can send the Securitrons for drinks, snacks... once you can keep things down, that is. And if this doesn't help, I can go get some of the Followers to help you work through it. Okay?"
"Okay."
ED-E: ED-E cooed its concern and floated over to the bed, hovering just within reach of the courier's fingers. They brushed the bot's chassis gently as it scanned the room, taking in the courier's increased body temperature and ragged breath rate. When ED-E finished its assessment, it slowly lowered itself to face level and let out a disappointed blat.
The courier pressed their burning forehead to its relatively-cool metal plating and sighed. "I know, I know. Please don't be mad at me. I know you would've gone straight to the Old Mormon Fort or something, if you knew I was like this."
In response to ED-E's questioning blips, they made a face. "You know how Arcade is. If I told him I was on chems at all, I'd get such an earful... I thought maybe I could, you know, get it mostly out of my system before I went down there. But now I can barely move."
With a whistle and a beep, ED-E whizzed off and out the door again. The bot returned with the Securitron guard in tow, its flexible arms outstretched. "Prepare for transport to medical care, honored guest," it said in its usual, no-nonsense tone.
The courier eyed it with misgiving, then struggled to the edge of the bed. "No... no thanks. I'll walk. Somehow."
Rex: The scent of the courier's illness overwhelmed Rex's nose, and the faithful dog whined. He leaned over the edge of the bed as far as he could reach, and the cold point of his muzzle pressed into their blanket bundle.
"It's okay, buddy." The courier patted the mattress next to them. "Come on up. Just this once."
Rex whined a few more times before he finally jumped onto the bed. The frame creaked a bit from the added weight - German shepherds were heavy, and cyberdogs were even heavier. Rex padded around in a tight circle before curling up next to the courier, placing his chin in their lap.
The courier stroked his ears, careful not to bump the brain dome that was nestled between them. "I feel like absolute shit, Rex," they admitted softly. "But I think... I think it's for the best. For you and me."

The Perfect Fit | Bucky Barnes x reader (part 2)
(part 1)
summary: after getting fitted by you, bucky’s going to try on the custom-made suits he’s bought. unless he makes his move now, he may not get to see you again, and he can’t let that happen.
word count: 6.5k
warnings: smut!!, fingering, oral (m and f receiving), a little d/s energy, mirror kink, stomach bulge kink, slight pain kink?, creampie kink, pussy spanking, light bondage, bucky being jealous
Bucky had a bone to pick with Tony, which was usually true but this wasn’t work-related for once. It wasn’t hard to find him in the same place he’d seen him last— eating his lunch in the kitchen, with Sam nearby chowing down on lo mein with a spring roll.
“Hey lefty, what’s cracking?” Tony greeted, mouth full but talking loudly anyways.
"I went down to that tailor you recommended—" Bucky began, but Tony was quick to interrupt.
"You went there? Dude, it's a really nice place, you can just call and she'll come to you instead, way more convenient."
"So now you say 'she'?"
Realization dawned on Tony’s expression. "Ahh, I get it. You're not used to a female tailor. Adds a little spice to getting fitted, huh?" he grinned, elbowing Bucky playfully.
Bucky’s throat felt a little dry when he heard that. "Don't tell me that's why you use her…"
"Hey now, I'm not a creep, I use her cause she's the best, and those house calls are great for discretion— you know, being a celebrity and all. The eye candy part is just gravy."
"Gravy candy sounds disgusting," Sam chimed in, missing the point entirely.
"Yeah, well, she mentioned some stuff that sure made you sound like a creep."
"Okay, well, you can't blame me for getting caught staring when I'm surrounded by fucking mirrors. Makes it hard to be stealthy."
"You could try not staring,” Bucky suggested flatly.
"Is that what you did?"
Tony smirked when Bucky failed to reply immediately. "Okay, so it's easier said than done,” Bucky admitted with a frown, “but still, I hope these house calls were strictly professional."
“What’s it to you, man? I think somebody’s jealous,” Tony purred.
“What? No, it’s not that,” Bucky denied.
“You love her,” Tony sing-songed, completely ignoring Bucky. “You looooooove her!”
"You are so immature," Bucky rolled his eyes, even though his heart was racing and he was pretty sure he was blushing.
"No, it's good for you! She's a catch, you're all brooding and stuff— maybe she can melt the Winter Soldier's frozen heart, hm?"
Sam laughed heartily. "Stark, you read too many comic books."
"You're saying you don't wanna see Icy Hot here shoot his shot with my tailor?" Tony asked, turning his attention towards Sam.
Sam pondered that, much to Bucky's dismay. "Depends. How hot is she?"
"Mega," Tony smirked confidently. "Legs for miles, and she wears these skirts that make her ass look—"
"I think I've heard enough," Bucky groaned. "I'm leaving. And don't ask when I'm going to see her again," he instructed, interrupting Tony just as he'd opened his mouth to speak, "because I won’t tell you.”
As Bucky left, he could hear Tony calling out into the hall: “But I’d be such a great wingman!”
//
Truth be told, Bucky had put off mastering the use of his smartphone. It wasn’t just that new technology made him feel old, but that he knew nobody would be calling or messaging him anyways; if the phone didn’t work, he would spare himself the embarrassment of waiting up for nothing.
But once he knew you were going to call? Suddenly, he was motivated to figure the sucker out.
A few hours later and now all he had to do was stare at it to make sure he wouldn’t miss you. Luckily, you didn’t make him wait too long. He recognized the number and decided to let it ring a few times before picking up, so it would seem like he had other things to do besides talk to you.
“Hello?” Bucky asked when he answered, so it would seem like he had other people calling him besides you.
You introduced yourself so formally that he was a little afraid that all that fun energy between you two would be gone. Thankfully, once he asked what you were calling about, you were back to being cheery and casual again.
“I was just calling to schedule when I could come by with your new suits!” you explained, sounding chipper.
His fingertips were a little tingly just from hearing you talk, nervousness making him antsy (in a weirdly good way). “I know you said it’s a one-person operation,” he responded smarmily, “but I figured you would outsource delivery.”
You scoffed, though it sounded more amused than irritated. “It’s not just delivery, I have to check the fit and make sure everything’s exactly to your liking.”
“Oh, well, I’m free all day tomorrow— and I think you already know my address.” Was it too forward? Too obvious? And why did Bucky spend half the time when he was talking to you second-guessing himself?
“Yes, Stark Tower is a relatively common destination for me. If he doesn’t mind us using it, Tony has a dressing room with plenty of mirrors so you can get a good look. But, I’d be happy to just go up to your quarters if that’s easier.”
He was not at all ready for you to see his room. No way he could clean it enough in the next twelve hours; and even then, lots of the team had made fun of how empty and plain it was, so he knew it would just make you think he was boring.
“I’m sure Tony won’t mind you using his dressing room, but he might mind me using it,” Bucky chuckled.
“Well, if he makes a fuss I’ll be sure to set him straight,” you decided confidently. Somehow, imagining you cursing out Tony was almost hotter than imagining you doing anything else. “Be sure to bring down your dress shoes so you get the full look and everything.”
“Uhhh…” he trailed off as he scratched the back of his head, trying to remember if he owned anything other than combat boots. “Not sure I still have those, to be honest.”
"Okay, you'll need shoes too,” you noted aloud, your voice a little distant; he figured you were writing things down, which was why you sounded distracted. “What size are you?"
"Thirteen."
"I'll bring a selection tomorrow,” you announced firmly. “And socks, of course. And some watches, maybe? And pocket squares."
"Is that it?" he asked sarcastically.
“Oh right, I’m bringing the ties you picked out, too. I’ll throw in some alternates in case your original choices don’t match the way you were hoping.”
“You really are full-service,” he chuckled.
“I get that a lot,” you replied, a hint of coyness to your tone.
There it was again; that jealousy. He hated it because he knew it was wrong, but he couldn’t stop it either. As much as his mind was completely aware that you were an independent, modern woman capable of handling herself, his heart was equally determined to protect you, and spoil you, and do whatever was necessary to make sure you were safe.
Worse, his gut was less innocent. Mine, it demanded, all mine. Nobody else’s.
He pushed it down and just tried to get through the rest of the call without saying something he’d regret. You confirmed the date and time with him, and he tried not to be too aggressive when he said he was looking forward to it.
He hung up his phone and sighed, staring off into space. Now all that was left to do was wait, and be overwhelmed with anxiety. Thankfully, he was good at the second thing.
//
"So, what do you think?"
I think you look so damn good from every angle. I think I might spend all my money on suits just to be sure I can see you again. I think you need somebody to love you the way you deserve. I think you’d look like an angel waking up in my bed.
You waved your hand in front of his face for a moment, calling his attention back to reality. “Helloooo?”
Drawn out of his trance, Bucky finally looked in the menagerie of mirrors surrounding him and admired his reflection, amazed by the perfect fit of his first suit. The difference in quality between this and something off the rack was beyond apparent. Most of all, your talent was undeniable. "I think it's beautiful."
You smiled proudly. "Of course it is, but do you like how you look in it?"
"Honestly? I feel a bit… out of place. I'm obviously not classy enough for a suit like this."
"Oh, nonsense," you dismissed.
He frowned, convinced this was all flattery. "No, seriously, this is… maybe I should just wear tactical gear to every event."
"Well, you'd still look good, but you're not always a soldier. Sometimes you're only a man. And every man should own a fine suit."
It was much too profound of a thing to say while you casually straightened his jacket, only to pop out from behind his reflection to smile at him in the mirror.
“Let’s get the next one on you,” you decided, helping him lose the jacket but having him move into a private dressing room to switch trousers and shirts. “I put a turtleneck in there instead of just a regular button-up,” you explained through the door as he changed, “in case you wanted to see it that way.”
Once he’d put it on, he stepped back out and you were looking at him so proudly— well, you were looking at your handiwork with pride, really, but he could pretend it was for him and hope actually impress you that much one day.
“I went with a shawl lapel on this one, as opposed to the last one which was notched,” you explained as you traced the line with your finger. “Spoiler: the next one has a peak lapel. But enough about that one: what do you think of this one?”
“This looks like something my friend Sam would wear,” Bucky decided as he looked at himself in the cranberry suit and black turtleneck. The shoes you’d had him try on with this were intricate as well, with subtle stitching in the leather and a shine so immaculate he could almost see a reflection in them.
“Well, is your friend Sam stylish?” you asked.
“He would certainly say so,” he smirked.
“I’m inclined to agree, because you—” you gave him a thorough glance up and down, so thorough in fact that he felt a bit exposed under your gaze, “—look marvelous.”
“Not pretentious?”
“No, no, it works on you,” you assured, “you’ve got the looks for it.”
“And what looks are those?”
“Um… good? Good looks?”
He definitely remembered a time when that seemed like the obvious answer, because he had relied on being good-looking for a lot of things in life, but that felt very far away now. Maybe it was just that people who didn’t know what he’d done could still think he was good looking, but everyone else saw the evil within beginning to leak out the way that he did.
But you knew what he’d done, didn’t you? You had to. You knew Tony, you were here at the Tower… unless you were intentionally not up-to-date on current events, you must have heard of the Winter Soldier.
“Don’t act so surprised,” you huffed, “as if it’s a big secret or something. You’re obviously very attractive.”
Bucky cleared his throat nervously. “Uh, thanks.” He wanted to return the compliment, but thought it might be inappropriate or rude somehow. You broke the silence quickly as you held up two pocket squares in front of him.
“Which of these do you prefer?” you prompted. He selected the solid gold one, making you smile. “I knew you’d pick that one.”
“How?”
“I dunno, just fits you,” you shrugged as you folded it and gently placed it in his pocket. Even through so many layers, your touch on his chest made his heart flutter. Your fingers brushing over his as you slipped a watch onto his wrist was enough to cause palpitations.
He looked better in this ensemble than he expected. This version of himself looked much more likely to be invited to parties than any other version. If only he actually wanted to go to parties.
You put him in the pinstripe suit last, after putting a few pins in the cranberry suit to indicate minor changes you would make later, and stepped back to ponder your work.
"Hm, unbutton those top two buttons for me?" you requested with a raised eyebrow.
I will if you do, he thought to himself, but silently unbuttoned his own shirt anyway.
"I mean, it definitely works like this, but I wanna see you in a tie. And I've got juuuuust the one," you smiled. Soon you were approaching him with a red paisley tie, and helping him button up his shirt and tying the tie for him— you explained something about how it was a unique knot he likely couldn't do himself, but he was too lost in having you so close to notice. It would be so easy to just reach up and grab your waist, pull you into a kiss, finally tell you how bad he wants you.
Well, it would be physically easy, but it would be very scary. Just imagining it had his heart racing.
“I heard from Tony this morning,” you informed him suddenly, slipping the tie around his neck and popping his collar up for him.
“Really? Is he in need of a wardrobe update?”
“Yes, but he hasn’t realized that yet so that wasn’t what he called about.”
He laughed a little at the jab, though it also made him a little worried what secret opinions you held about his own style (or lack thereof).
“We talked about you, actually,” you added.
“O-oh,” Bucky stammered, “uh, he’s not exactly my biggest fan. So whatever he said probably isn’t true.”
“He said that you have a crush on me,” you replied nonchalantly, not even looking up from your work on his tie.
Bucky gulped, and he knew you saw the bob of his Adam’s apple because you were staring right at his neck.
“Like I said, Tony isn’t a very reliable source,” Bucky replied, but his voice cracked in the middle and he cringed internally.
“I’ll write it off as another one of Tony’s off-color jokes then,” you dismissed, perfecting the knot of his tie and stepping back to observe him. He always felt nervous when you looked at him like that, like he couldn’t hide anything from you.
“What… what did you say, when he told you that?” Bucky asked nervously.
“I asked him what he was smoking and if I could have some,” you laughed. “I thought it was totally impossible— and don’t worry, I didn’t tell him that you got hard when I did your inseam.”
Bucky’s throat became dry at the same moment that his palms got clammy.
“I— um, I was just—”
“Oh, it’s fine,” you dismissed quickly, still talking about this all so casually which only made him even more confused, “you’re not the first, it happens.”
“I’m not the first?!”
“Yeah, if anything you were one of the few who didn’t say something creepy about it, which is always appreciated. It’s just a bodily reaction, you can’t control it.”
“Did Tony ever say something creepy?” Bucky pressed, his hands involuntarily tightening into fists— another bodily reaction he couldn’t control.
“You know, Tony said you were really worried that he had been inappropriate with me, or even that he and I had a fling or something,” you added as you stepped back, giving him a quizzical look, “and now it’s sort of sounding like he was right.”
“No, no, it’s not that, I just—”
“Was he right about anything else?” you pressed, raising an eyebrow.
“I was being nosy, I’m sorry,” he sighed, “it’s just that… and I know it’s none of my business, but the idea of him and you… it isn’t a pleasant mental image.”
You laughed a little, in a way that made him feel kind of small. “Why not? You know how he is. Definitely has a wandering eye… and occasionally a wandering hand.”
Bucky winced. “I swear, if he ever put his hands on you, I’ll go find him right now and beat him senseless.”
“What if I wanted him to?”
He nearly saw red, but he knew he had no right to be angry. You were a grown adult and he had no ownership over you… he just sort of wished that he did.
“So it’s true then? You and him…?”
“No, Bucky,” you laughed, “it’s not. Nothing’s ever happened between us. I generally don’t get involved with clients like that.”
“Generally? Is there an exception?”
You chewed your lip, seemingly a little thrown off by his question. “Uh, I mean, no— I’ve never been involved with a client, no, if that’s what you’re asking.”
“Why would you say ‘generally’ then?”
“Uh, I guess I just… I wouldn’t want to rule anything out, that’s all. Never say never.”
And for a moment he almost wondered if you were flirting with him. Certainly not, with him having come across as both a jealous hot-head and a bumbling dweeb who pops a boner faster than a randy teenager, but just for a second the way you looked at him was… questionable.
“I mean, who knows,” you continued, “what if, hypothetically, some gorgeous guy walked into my store one night— a sensitive guy, who made me laugh and put up with me rambling about ties for the better part of an hour— and I was supposed to dress him up when all I wanted to do was undress him?”
Your finger started to trail down his chest lightly, tickling his skin through the dress shirt.
“I wouldn’t want to think he was off-limits just because he’s a customer… right?” you asked quietly, looking up at him and biting your lip.
He was afraid to make the wrong move, but he really really hoped this was flirting.
“I don’t think anyone would object to being dressed or undressed by you,” Bucky responded, hoping he could stay neutral until he was sure what you were talking about.
You chewed your lip, looking away as if you were thinking about something.
"I know I certainly haven't. And wouldn't," he added, feeling the need to say something.
You nodded, placing his tie inside his jacket and seeming happy with your work.
“You know, the fit looks great," you announced, "but I’m a little worried that one of the measurements was wrong. Mind if I do your inseam again?”
His throat was dry all of a sudden, but he responded quickly anyways. "Uh, go ahead…"
You looked up at him as you started to sink to your knees, very slowly. That little move looked real good in the mirror behind you. “Last time I did this, there was something getting in the way, made it difficult to know if I was doing it right…”
"M-my apologies," he whispered.
"Oh no, I'm not complaining," you purred as you slowly began to run your fingers up the side of his leg, keeping searing eye contact until his knees felt a little weak.
When your hand reached the top of his inner thigh, the back of it brushed against his balls and he shivered. Delicately, and so excruciatingly slowly, your hand moved higher and gently rubbed his erection through the fabric.
“Fuck,” he whispered under his breath.
It must have been all the anticipation that made it so intense, made shivers run up his spine every time your hand moved over his length, made his toes curl inside the ridiculously fancy shoes you’d put him in.
“I’m gonna take it out now, okay? I promise I won’t measure you here,” you winked.
"You can if you want," he shrugged, deciding now was the time for feigned confidence if there ever was one. “I mean, if you’re worried about fit…”
You bit your lip, and he was proud to see the effect his words had on you. “I’ll be honest, I am a little worried it won’t fit…” You were quick with his belt, but slow with his button and fly, apparently having more fun teasing him. “Fuck, Bucky,” you groaned softly as you took his cock out.
“Don’t look so excited, doll, you’ll give me an ego,” he purred.
“Can’t help it,” you sighed, “looks delicious.”
You licked a long wet stripe up from the bottom all the way to the tip, making a show of licking up the bead of pre-cum before taking his head into your mouth, and Bucky blinked a few times to be sure that this was actually happening.
"Been wanting to do that since I first saw you," you admitted, grinning as you stroked him right beside your face, which only helped to illustrate how big he was compared to you.
"Dirty girl," he praised with a smirk.
Flirting, he wasn’t so good at. Conversation in any form typically stressed him out. But this? This he was still pretty good at. And he’d never wanted it so bad before.
When you took him in your mouth again, you didn’t stop until you started to gag; he couldn’t stop himself from moaning through his teeth when you did it.
"Look up at me, princess," he instructed softly, grinning when you obeyed quickly. "Now look over there at that mirror. Look how good you look on your knees for me, choking on my cock."
You moaned around him when you made eye contact with your own reflection, and it felt so fucking good he almost lost it right then and there. He held your jaw, almost too tightly, and guided you as your head bobbed on his length. Your mouth was so warm he thought he would burn up— and it only got warmer the deeper he managed to get. God, he was so ready to pump his load right into your throat, but he wanted to do so much more to you first.
In one quick motion, he pushed you off of his cock, pulled you up to face him, and flipped you around, holding you to his chest with the metal arm and letting the flesh one start rubbing your thigh. This way, both of you were looking at the mirror in front of you, and he loved watching you gasp and moan as you felt and watched his fingers move higher and higher.
“I think it’s time to find out if you really are ‘full-service’,” he purred right against your ear, making searing eye contact with you in the reflection. “You’ve seen so much of me, but I haven’t seen nearly enough of you yet. Been daydreaming about what you could be hiding under these tight little skirts.”
As he pulled up the plaid-patterned fabric, he saw that you were wearing white, lacy panties and he groaned deeply.
“What are you wearing these for?” he teased, rubbing along the edge but never getting where you wanted— and he knew you were getting desperate, because your hips were starting to buck up into his hand. “Were you expecting something would happen today, sweetheart?”
“I— I was hopeful,” you stammered; instantly, he slapped you right on your barely-covered pussy, just hard enough to make you yelp and squirm in his grasp.
“You’re so shameless,” he chuckled darkly, “and I love it. I just hope this isn’t your usual routine— acting all innocent and batting your eyes so your clients will fuck you.”
“No, I swear, it’s just you, Bucky,” you whimpered, “there’s nobody else, please…”
“Please what? Tell me what you want.”
“I want you to… to touch me more,” you whispered, as if it was a secret and not patently obvious.
He slipped two fingers underneath the thin fabric, finding your clit right away (not difficult at all with how swollen it was) and rubbing it in gentle circles.
“Oh god,” you sighed, “Bucky…”
WIth his hand on your hips, it wasn’t hard at all to push you back into him so he could rub his aching cock against you.
"What material is this skirt made of?"
"It's a silk blend," you answered breathlessly, "about 30% cotton."
"It's soft," he purred before yanking your skirt up higher and pressing his cock against your ass instead, "but not as soft as you."
Next to go was your blouse, which he tore open to the sound of buttons flying every direction and bouncing off of the mirrors and floors.
"Bucky!" you yelped, but he could see your nipples harden through the lacy white bra. If there was any doubt that you had intended to seduce him today, the matching undergarments dispelled it.
After teasing your nipples between his fingers for a moment, he reached back down between your legs— and when his fingers slipped through your folds and moved down to your opening, he actually moaned just from how wet you are.
"Fucking hell," he growled, "you are drenched, princess. You liked sucking me off that much?"
"Not just that," you clarified, "you look really good in my suits."
He gave you a toothy smile in the mirror, using it to nibble on your ear a bit. "You deserve most of the credit for that," he purred.
"No, no, I don't," you whined, "you'd look sexy in a paper bag, honestly… you turn me on so much, Bucky."
“Did you… think about me? After I left your shop the other night?” he asked playfully, already foreseeing your answer from the way your thighs clenched and your lips let out the subtlest gasp.
“Yes,” you whimpered.
“You’re smart enough to know I want you to be more specific than that,” he chuckled.
“I thought about you that night… after I got into bed…” you elaborated slowly, clearly distracted by the way he was moving his fingers: delicately, but with obvious intentionality. “I thought about what it would’ve been like if you had grabbed me and kissed me, shoved me against the wall, fucked me right there on my desk… in front of the glass wall, where anyone could’ve walked by and seen you claim me…”
His cock was throbbing, and he wasn’t sure if it was from the image itself or from the knowledge that you’d been fantasizing about it. “Were you touching yourself?” he growled.
“Yes,” you sighed, your thighs starting to visibly shake, your knees bending towards each other in the mirror.
“Show me how,” he demanded. “Show me exactly how you were playing with your needy little pussy while you thought about me.”
Your hand found its place on top of his, your fingers starting to move his to the specific place, guiding his movements to be faster and rougher.
“Oh, I see,” he grinned, “you don’t like to tease yourself, do you? You like to jump right into it, come as many times as you can and rub yourself raw in the process?”
You nodded feverishly, panting and whining and writhing in his grasp.
“You’re so desperate, honey… such a shameless cockwhore for me.”
“For you,” you repeated through your trance, “Bucky, ‘m close… keep touching me, please…”
He kept his thumb on your clit but gently slid one finger inside you, both of you gasping at the sensation (if for different reasons).
“So tight,” he hissed, already pulling it back out, “fuck, and just for one finger…”
“More, please,” you begged mindlessly.
“More? Sure you can take it?”
You bit down on your lip as you nodded, and he pushed a second finger in beside his first. He felt you struggling with it, both in your walls and in the way you winced a little, but you softly begged him to keep going so of course he couldn’t stop. You adjusted quickly, your wetness starting to run down his hand.
“Fuck me,” you whimpered, “now, please, can’t wait anymore.”
“Yes you can,” he encouraged, “and you will, cause I need to taste you first.”
Pulling his fingers out of you, he flipped you around again, finally kissing you the way he’d been dreaming of since he first saw you. It was intense but not too dominating— in spite of everything. It was a romantic sort of kiss, maybe too romantic for the situation (that being his cock out and hard and pressed against you, and his fingers covered in your arousal) but perfect nonetheless.
“That’s not what I thought you meant when you said you wanted to taste me,” you giggled when he pulled away.
“No, I meant it the other way,” he smiled, “I just wanted to do that first.”
He picked you up suddenly, making you gasp a bit, but knelt down to lay you on the floor pretty soon after. You looked up at him with wide eyes as he lifted your leg and kissed his way up. He could smell your need, and he worried it would drive him wild before he reached his destination.
Pulling your soaked panties aside, he realized he could probably come just from looking at you. “Such a gorgeous pussy,” he growled his praise, leaning down to plant a few more teasing kisses over the inside of your thighs. Finally, he started with one long lick, just like you had with him, but you weren’t so patient to tolerate it. Nearly instantly your fingers pulled his hair, clearly trying to guide him to tease you less, but he couldn’t be swayed to go easy on you.
“I hope you’re not forgetting who’s in charge,” he smiled hungrily.
“And what if I am?” you returned, clearly looking to get on his nerves so he’d get rough with you. He was happy to oblige.
Bucky sat up and loosened his tie, slipping it off of his neck with a smirk. "Now, this is 100% Venetian silk, so it should feel nice around your wrists," he cooed. You offered your hands willingly, and he got a chance to show off a few complex knots of his own. "Now be a good girl and keep those hands above your head, alright?"
You did as he asked, freeing him to hold your legs open as he devoured you, alternating between teasing your bud with the tip of his tongue, and fucking you with it.
"You taste like heaven, doll," he growled when he came up quickly, "and the way you moan when my tongue's inside you? I swear I could die happy right now."
"I wish you wouldn't though," you whimpered.
He laughed a bit before he got back to it, letting his tongue focus on your clit while he filled you with his fingers again. Your walls clenched down on him occasionally, and when it became more frequent just as your moans became louder, he knew you were close.
"Stop, stop," you sighed suddenly, pushing him away.
"Are you alright?" he asked, nervous he'd done something wrong.
"No I'm fine, I just… I don't want to come yet. I want you inside me first."
"And what about what I want, hm? What if I want to watch you come just from my tongue?" he offered instead, though he was definitely still very persuadable in this regard.
"I know you wanna fuck me, Bucky, don't make me wait any longer,” you moaned, your back arching up a little from the floor.
Not needing to be told twice, he flipped you onto your elbows and knees, making sure you could support yourself with bound wrists before letting you go. His hands running over your exposed ass and thighs made you shiver, and he smiled down at you. At this point, he was probably more desperate than you were, but he was doing a much better job of hiding it, even taking the time to reach up and undo a few of the buttons of his shirt, because wow suits are warm and not meant for his level of physical activity.
Still, he figured he had waited long enough— he needed to fuck you while he still had at least a shred of patience left. He was going to need it if he was going to give you time to adjust to him.
Holding his cock and rubbing it through your folds, he chuckled when you whined and dropped your head down in a pout. He loved watching your expression shift into a gasp as he pushed in.
He went slow, but he didn't stop either. He wanted to test you just a little. He wanted to stretch you open.
"Fuck," you cried, "god, you're so… you feel so…"
"Look in the mirror," he instructed coldly, although the coldness was just a front for the way he was holding himself back as your body swallowed him so beautifully.
You moaned again, higher-pitched and weak, just as he finally got all the way in. He waited until he felt your body relax a bit before he asked if it was okay for him to move yet. You answered with a quick nod, a breathy "please," and he didn't need any more encouragement.
It was probably too fast to start off with, but god, he'd been waiting so long to fuck you like this.
"Baby," he whispered, "you're so perfect."
He held you steady and thrusted deep, so deep that it made you gasp each time. You looked incredible, and you felt incredible, but the way you sounded was just… divine. He could never have imagined the beautiful way you would sound when he was bringing you pleasure like this. Having heard it, he wanted to make you sound like this as often as possible from now on. Technically he couldn’t even be sure he’d get another chance to, but surely sounds this perfect meant you had to be having a good time, right? Ideally a good enough time to call him again?
He was snapped back to focus when he saw your eyes flutter shut with pleasure.
"Don't look away from that mirror, honey," he growled, "don't close your eyes. Look how pretty you look like this."
He could tell you loved it from the way your channel fluttered and flexed.
"You like watching yourself get fucked, princess?"
"Yes," you sobbed as he grabbed your hips harder, hoping to leave a bruise, "it feels so good, Bucky, please don't stop!"
"I won't stop, pretty girl. Not until you cream on my cock," he grunted.
"Fuck, I'm close," you whined, "Bucky, I'm gonna come— oh god right there!"
And he was sure it couldn’t be fake from the way your body tightened and released so many times, the way you quivered and your breathing seemed to stop for a moment. Even though he could barely take it, he kept fucking you through it until you were shaking so violently that he worried about your health.
“You feel so goddamn good when you come, princess,” he moaned softly. “Tryin’ to milk my cock for all it’s worth, aren’t you?”
You laughed a little, sounding exhausted, but as he kept fucking you he could feel how sensitive you had become. When he reached down to push your skirt back up to your waist after it had started to fall down a bit, he felt his own movements in your gut and it took so much not to lose his cool in that moment. Instead, he pulled your upper body into his so that you could see in the mirror the way your lower stomach was bulging a bit each time he pushed in all the way.
"F-fuck, Bucky," you whimpered.
"Anybody ever been that deep inside you before?"
"No, not even close," you moaned.
"Am I hurting you?" he asked gently, kissing up and down your neck slowly to match his lazy, teasing thrusts.
"A little," you admitted, "but it feels good. Don't stop."
He wasn’t so brutal with his thrusts, still deep but with a patient, measured pace. It staved off his orgasm a bit longer, and it made you moan all slow and throaty which was not better or worse than the needy, high-pitched moans, but enjoyably different. You didn’t sound as desperate anymore (probably because you’d already come), instead seeming relaxed and calm— if still arching your back and biting your lip nonetheless.
"I wanna come inside you," he whispered right against your ear; he could feel the way you shivered as a result.
"Please," you whimpered.
"Is that what you want? Wanna be full of my come?"
"Yes," you sobbed, "yes, please Bucky I need it so bad!"
"Fuck, gonna fill you up so good, doll," he promised gruffly. "Want me to make you mine, beautiful?"
He knew it was a risky thing to say, but his risks had paid off so far, and he wasn't in his most cautious mood.
"Already yours, Bucky," you sighed, "I'm yours, please come in me…"
It hit him suddenly when you said that, and harder than he expected. He hadn't come like that in… he hadn't come like that ever. He preferred not to think about the sudden, wavering moan he let out in that moment because he wondered if it sounded unsexy, but thankfully his mind was distracted by the overwhelming sensation of his softening, sensitive cock still within you.
He managed to maneuver you in the way he needed as he pulled out, leaning you back into him and holding your legs open to the mirror in front of you.
"Look in the mirror, sweetheart,” he instructed, his whisper a little labored as he was still catching his breath, “watch my come leak outta your pussy."
You seemed to be in awe of it, despite it being the obvious outcome of what had just happened. To be fair, he was in awe of it in a sense, too; a thick, slow stream of sticky white come dripping down from your swollen hole and onto the floor… it was mesmerizing.
Your body was limp in his arms as he finally allowed you to rest, your eyes falling shut as you melted into his embrace. He took a moment to untie your wrists, tossing the garment aside with an exhausted sigh. “Bucky…” you mumbled sleepily, apparently just to say his name.
“Was that… sort of what you were hoping for today?” he asked softly, kissing your temple.
“And more,” you giggled. “Oh my god, I… I don’t even know how to describe that… you’re so… fuck, I don’t know, my brain is totally jelly right now.”
“In a good way?”
“In the best way.”
He smiled, admiring your vacant-yet-pleased expression and feeling satisfied with his work. You turned over to lay your head on his chest, and he gladly draped his arms around you in response. Holding you like this felt so purely right, in a way so few things did to him. Funny enough, even just having fucked you on the floor and already holding you afterwards right now, he felt nervous again that he would say something wrong. You were a modern woman, after all, and maybe this was this ‘hook-up culture’ he kept hearing about.
“Was that true what you said, doll?” he asked gently, feeling you stir a little and slide a leg up to rest over his. “Did you mean it when you said that you were mine? Or was it just, you know, the heat of the moment…?”
You smiled a little, looking kind of embarrassed. “Um, yeah, I meant that… I’m yours, if you want me to be.”
He didn’t feel as guilty for feeling so possessive over you now. Clearly it was appreciated, in the right context. And he was now at least 75% sure that this wasn’t a hook-up. “Well, I’m yours, too,” he replied with a soft laugh, “whether you want me or not.”
“I want you,” you confirmed.
You laid in silence together for some unknowable amount of time, but it was a purely unawkward silence. A peaceful silence, and one filled with possibilities, but not uncomfortable. Maybe it was uncomfortable in the sense that the carpet, while still being very plushy and expensive, was still the floor and not as forgiving as a bed… but it was completely worth it.
Part of him feared to ruin the moment by speaking, but much more of him feared that you would slip out of his grasp if he didn’t say something. "This may be the wrong time to ask this— or maybe just the wrong order to do this stuff in— but I wanted to ask if you'd like to join me for dinner sometime."
You laughed, but cuddled deeper into his chest. "Um, yeah, that would be nice."
"I just hope I'll find something nice to wear," he grinned.

fragment in time
↬ Reincarnation/Soulmate AU
—Wherein past lovers would always find each other in a different life.
↬ Pairing: Levi Ackerman/Reader
↬ Word count: 4.4k
↬ Synopsis: Perhaps in another lifetime, you and Levi would finally be together.
↬ not proofread, capn’ :’)
The smell of blood wafted through the air. Screams of terror of fallen soldiers plagued your senses as man-eating-giants unhinged their jaws, their large teeth sinking down into the soft flesh of your comrades. Their blood splattered around, your terrified eyes watching each and every one in your squad being eaten alive by the titans.
It was a simple mistake, an error created by the supposed messenger from the other squad of soldiers reporting in to inform you of the titan wreaking havoc amongst the lands to the west. You took them upon their word, heeding into the information, and as such steered the squad towards the east to avoid the chaos.
But they were supposed to say east. East was where the giant beasts are.
Which brings you back to today's scene, wherein you are badly injured—and perhaps internally bleeding—with an aberrant titan desolating your men.
Biting down your cheeks, you groaned in pain as you adjusted yourself into a sitting position. Hands flying down to your stomach in attempts to stop the bleeding caused by a titan that caught you earlier. You were in death's door—a foot in the grave you have dug yourself in ever since you signed up to be a soldier in the Survey Corps—ready to embrace the sweet release of death that would finally rid you of this hellish world. That is until one of your men saved you, slicing the fingers that are wrapped around your torso and harshly tossed you to the side and out of harm's way.
You froze in horror, unable to recover your mental state after being a hair's width to cessation.
"Lieutenant (____)! Take my horse and esca—" was their last words before the titan bit of their head. The beast looming over their figure, a sickening grin adorned their face as saliva trickled down its chin. It let out a small grunt of pleasure, gulping down the severed head of your comrade. Their lifeless body slowly slumped down until they fell with a thud against the grass. Dirt mixed with fresh blood dirtied their pristine white shirt they wore along with the Survey Corps uniform.
You felt so useless. . .so powerless.
The scene played inside your thoughts like a broken record playing in repeat. Over and over again. . .
It was a nightmare much worse than those you have in your sleep. No. . . this is reality. This was actually happening right before your eyes. With a shaky hand, you brought it up to cup your cheek, smearing blood all over it as you lightly pinched yourself to confirm that you are actually awake and are not simply dreaming.
You wanted to save your squad—your friends whom you trained and joked with back inside the walls. The very same people who were assigned to you by Erwin. But you couldn't bring yourself to do it.
Your body wouldn't budge.
It was as if fate was tricking with you—letting time slow down for you to witness the horrific scene before you. You wanted to take a break, just a brief moment to recollect your thoughts and congregate yourself to fight back against the titans. You wanted to fight back; to slice the nape of the titan that killed most of your squad. But you find yourself unable to. Shoulders slumping down in defeat, eyes swimming with salty tears, and mouth so dry like those desserts Armin spoke of.
As the titan's hands hover above, your life flashed before you. Recounting your most joyous moments from childhood to adulthood. Like that one time your mother gave you a hand-sewn doll for your birthday. Or when you got accepted to the Survey Corps despite your family's protests.
You'll die a terrible death, they say. It's safer inside the walls.
But you defied them, enlisting your name the moment it was announced that the military branch was recruiting a new set of soldiers for the next expedition happening in a few months. Your first time outside the walls was different.
Instead of puking everywhere and shaking in your horse, you felt strangely calm and excited. Not only that but you also easily killed the titans coming your way. Which in return shocked the higher-ups and eventually gave you your own squad a few months later due to your pure skill.
But perhaps the most memorable event in your life was meeting your fiance, Levi Ackerman. You met him a few years back—when he was still a fresh new recruit just like you. His skills with the 3d maneuver gear were no joke. The male looked so graceful whilst swinging from tree to tree. Moving as fast as sound as he sliced off the napes of giant beasts that dared come close to him.
You idolized him at first—looking up to him in astonishment and hopes that one day, you would also possess the same prowess as him. Perhaps being on par with him in speed and killing titans was your goal. And so you set out to accomplish that ambition of yours; training every day until you pass out from exhaustion, harnessing your skills in hand-to-hand combat, and of course, improving your technique in using the 3d maneuver gear.
That surely got his interest, because months later Levi started to acknowledge you more. Whether it was a simple nod and greeting when both of you passed each other in the hallways. Visiting you in your room when he knew a friend of yours died during the expedition. And of course, Levi bringing you tea to your office in the wee hours of the morning whilst you are drowning in piles and piles of paperwork.
Before you knew it, you and he confessed to each other one night. You remembered it as clear as day. There were no clouds that moment, letting the moon shine brightly and provide light to the dimmest corners of the base. The stars were also out, glimmering in a rhythmic pattern that you grew to love.
I think I have feelings for you. . .romantic ones, you first confessed to him. Your hands bawled up in a tight fist, your eyes screwed shut, and heart hammering against your chest in anticipation of his answer. Much to your delight, he reciprocated your feelings.
That's good to hear, you swore there was a small smile. I feel the same way.
You relish in the memories of you and Levi inside his office. Every activity with him makes your heart swell and heat rush to your face. Being with Levi makes you forget the horrors of the world offers and instead replace it with comfort and blissful moments. Whether it was a simple trip downtown, spontaneous cuddle sessions when no one was around, and of course the pleasure-filled occasions with him behind the closed door of his office.
You treasured every moment inside your heart. And you would do whatever it takes to experience those once again.
What you were going to do was obviously a suicide mission—you should've just taken a horse just like what your comrade said. But you are one stubborn one.
Despite your body screaming in pain and agony, you won't die in vain. No, you'll stand up and fight back. Levi is expecting you to return back home intact and alive. You fired the hooks in a nearby tree, reeling yourself towards it before releasing it. There was a brief moment you're flying in the air. Everything was silent save for you hearing your own clamoring heartbeat against your rib cage. You've managed to escape in the nick of time, the titan's fists closing in the area where you once were. You could've died right then and there if it weren't for you acting quickly.
Your eyes clouded with rage, you fired the hooks once again, only this time to the nape of the beast. In one fell swoop, its nape detached itself from the rest of the body. A grunt escaped past your lips, an electric-like shot of pain coursed your veins. Air whistled past your ears as your velocity pushed you towards the side. Somehow in the process of killing the titan, its blood splattered on your face as well clothes.
With immediate effect, mind you, as small wisps of smoke emerged from your clothes. A sign that the blood is vaporizing. You kept your eyes low, staring at the gaping mouth of the now-deceased beast. Within a few minutes, its once strong skin would disintegrate. Turning into piles of bones that, if given more time, would also fall apart. Like a bubble bursting into nothingness once in contact with air.
You let out a small sigh of relief, letting your knees buckle and come in contact with the ground. It was a miracle that you could move despite your wounds.
Though, you celebrated all too early.
A shiver went down your spine as you heard the loud thumping behind. You whipped your head to the sound, eyes widening as a titan much bigger than the one you have killed was making its way towards you. Their mouth was stretched in an eerie smile, body covered with blood—with what you presumed was human's from another group of soldiers. Perhaps it heard the commotion and as such ventured towards the sound.
"Shit. . ." you cursed, finally realizing that you were out of gas and the blades are dull. The horses, as you observed earlier, were injured and some ran away. Even the one your comrade left for you was long gone, nowhere to be seen.
You imagined death so much it feels like a memory. Is this where it gets you? On your knees while the titan several feet ahead of you. You see it coming as clear as day, the surroundings a blur as you fixed attention on the beast. Do you run? Do you scream? Do you close your eyes and accept death? Though, you knew all too well that with your cracked ribs and injury, you wouldn't run as far.
You chose the latter.
Hands releasing the blades, you closed your eyes as you embraced the impending death.
When the titan wrapped its fingers around your finger, you kept your mouth shut. Not even a scream escaping past. Your breath hitched, breathing in the godawful stench as the beast opened its mouth. Perhaps salivating at the thought of gnawing at your flesh.
A choice with no regrets, that is what Levi said. True, you had a lot of regrets throughout your life, but you would never regret meeting him and enjoying every moment with him. Even if it was brief and shortcoming, you cherished it. Though, you truly did hope you would see his face once again. To relish under his touch. To hear his voice once more. Oh, how you wished you bid farewell before you take your final breath.
You cried in pain as its teeth slowly sunk into your flesh, your lower half of the body bit by bit being detached from the rest. Tears streamed down your cheeks. This was finally it. The moment wherein you would take your last breath and leave this hellish reality.
That is, until a strong gust of wind passed by.
"(____)!!" you knew the voice all too well. It was Levi's.
You opened your eyes, realizing now that the male had successfully killed the beast and is now carrying you in his arms. He was breathing heavily, his chest rising up and down vehemently. "You—" he started. Fear danced in his eyes, perhaps tears clouding his vision despite his attempts to keep it at bay. It was a rare sight to see Levi crying, usually, only a handful of people get to witness it. That said, you were always the one to comfort him in his darkest nights.
Levi carefully set you down, letting you lay down on the grass. "Don't you dare close your eyes, (____)!!" he pleaded. Hands clasping your shoulder blades.
"The others are coming this way—" he fought back a sob. "Just—just keep your eyes open long enough."
But you and he knew all too well that the deep gash in your abdomen as a result of the titan sinking its teeth is far too severe to be treated. The damage has already been done, it would be magic if the medic could heal you. Still, Levi clung to that hope that you would survive. That you would be back in the walls with him just in time for the wedding to happen after the expedition.
Levi was frantic. Unsure of what to do in seeing you in such a state he knew would be far-fetched to heal.
A minute.
He deduced that with your injury and blood continuously pouring out, you would still have a minute or two with him before you leave for good. Levi hated the thought of losing you. He blamed himself for letting you separate from him for this mission. So when he was informed that a titan wreaked havoc upon you and your squad, Levi did not think twice in changing directions in order to check up on you.
If only he was fast enough. If only he could turn back the time so Levi could save you in the nick of time before the titan drilled its teeth unto your flesh. But he knew all too well that what has happened has already been done. So for one last time, he'll make sure that the time spent with you would leave no regrets.
In contrast to him, love and mirth danced in your eyes, sparkling like a radiant summer sun glistening and being reflected on a puddle of water. Carefully and somewhat sluggish, you raised your hand to cup Levi's cheeks. Your thumb caressing his skin that you love oh so much.
"I'm glad I could see your face one last time. . ." you murmured under your breath, too weak to raise your voice.
Levi tightened his grip on your shoulders, this is it. The moment he'll lose another loved one yet again. "Save your energy. Don't you dare leave me," he spat.
"Levi. . ." you chuckled despite the pain. "You and I both know that I wouldn't make it in time. . ."
His broken expression made you wish this was all a dream.
"So. . ." you trailed off. "Just hold my hand, please?"
You blinked as black spots danced in her eyes. You were getting sleepy though ironically your body can't rest. The pain in your lower half was gone but when you tried moving, the pain emerged again. It somehow finds a way to wake you up. It was as if fate knew to keep you awake just to have one final moment with your beloved.
Levi closed his eyes, finally accepting reality and abiding by your request. With shaky hands, he clasped yours quite harshly. He was not ready to lose you.
"I'll see you in another time. . ." he slowly spoke. "We'll meet each other again and I'll find you."
One tear slid down your cheek, "Yeah. . . See you."
You woke up with a start, eyes flying open and you gasping for breath.
The room was dark, save for the small light given by the sun which was shielded by the floral curtain. A blue vase etched with gold ethnic marks and aster flowers in it sat at the windowsill. The first thing you registered was the feeling of cotton against your skin and the dark surroundings of your room. Slowly, you moved into a sitting position, your body feeling light as if you are floating in thin air.
That dream of yours had been reoccurring more often, plaguing your thoughts every night as you hit the haystack and welcome the sweet embrace of sleep—as if some outward forces want to tell you something.
You were in a trance—fog clouding your brain as you recalled. Distantly, your fingers ran over the soft cotton blanket, you can't help but feel like you were forgetting something.
Something important.
It was odd enough that giant naked men are desolating the lands; eating every human that comes across its way. But the thought of actually fighting it using a device far too technical for you to understand is what makes it absurd. That one particular scene keeps replaying over and over again when you sleep. You are confused—flabbergasted even. Though, it could only point to one answer.
It was a hand maiden's tale. A story passed down from generation to generation that the person constantly reappearing in your dreams was your soulmate. Though you wanted to believe that, it was a slim chance that it could actually be true. For starters, you were not a superstitious person—you believed in facts and data instead of made-up tales by who knows who. Still, something deep inside you was screaming that the male in your dreams was your destined beloved.
So as you strolled down the halls of the campus, you can’t help but let your thoughts drift off to the dream that incessantly appears at night. It was yet another day of you visiting the library to check if there are any new books added to the catalog. It may seem a nerd-ish move, but who could blame you? Thousands upon thousands of books right at your fingertips that you could easily access for free. Who wouldn’t want free books?
The soft beep of the monitor lets you know that your ID card has been scanned and as such recorded that you have, yet again, visited the library. As you stepped inside the room, there are a couple of students slumped over the tables. Their laptops opened, notes sprawled out, and multiple pens scattered around. Despite the obvious studious set-up, half of them are on their phone or sleeping. Talk about slacking off.
Shaking your head, you opted to walk straight into the fiction section where you spend most of your time scouring each shelf in search of a new adventure. Though, you halted momentarily as an unfamiliar figure came into view. They were searching for something—at least that is what you presumed given their furrowed eyebrows and the occasional curse underneath their breath.
It is such a rare sight to see someone other than you in the fiction aisle. Mainly since most students would be in other sections searching for biographies, dissertations, and old literature stuff that would aid them in their studies. At first, you thought it was Arlert, the freshman you met a couple of months back when both of you happen to stumble upon each other. The male happens to be searching for a specific sci-fi book. Luckily, you had practically memorized each shelf in the fiction section. As such, you helped him find the novel he desires. Before you knew it, you and he had become close friends that would occasionally talk to each other about books both of you enjoy.
But that isn’t the case this time. Armin’s iconic blond hair wasn’t in sight. Instead, onyx black in an undercut hairstyle is what greeted you. Wait a minute—he exactly looks like the male in your dreams.
You stepped closer, quiet as to not disturb or startle him. When you got close to the figure, you concluded that, indeed, he is the male in your dreams; quite literally and figuratively.
True, he is the exact spitting image of the male you’ve been seeing every night when you’re fast asleep. But also he is exactly your type; sharp jawline that could probably cut your finger, steel gray eyes that look oh so mysterious, and saints, the way you could see small veins on his pale hand drives you crazy.
“Uhmm. . .do you need help?” you voiced out without thinking twice. You had to slap yourself internally when the male turned around to glare at you.
He rose a brow, eyes trailing from head to toe as if questioning you what are you doing.
“Ah—uhm. I didn’t mean to startle you but I am quite familiar with this section so maybe I could help you with what you are looking for.”
The male narrowed his eyes at you, lips pressed into a thin line. Both of you shared silence, the distant hum of the air conditioner was the only thing you could hear. “What happened to Lori,” he abruptly spoke which perplexed you.
“What. . ?”
“I am looking for the second book of ‘What happened to Lori’. Do you know where that is?”
Your mouth fell open in realization as to what he was pertaining to. It was the exact book that you bought a week ago after finding out that the library doesn’t have the second book to the duology. It was a hefty price, but all was worth it since the story is all too intriguing to be left behind in book one. You needed answers and a continuation, and as such bought the second book online.
“The second book isn’t actually available. . .” you explained. The male cursed under his breath, something about the library being a useless piece of shit that was stupid enough to not buy the second book considering it was a duology.
The very book he is looking for is inside your bag. Frankly, you only finished it halfway so you were not too sure if you want to let him borrow it. But, with one look at the male, you can’t help but be amazed at how he is the carbon copy of the person that keeps appearing in your dreams.
You weren’t a superstitious person, but could this male be your soulmate?
He was about to leave you, that is until you called out to him. “But I have the second book with me,” you stammered. If it means that you would get to see him again and perhaps know some answers, then you are more than willing to lend him your book. “You could borrow it if you want. . .?”
The male looked at you from the corner of his eye, observing the way you fidget in your place and how you refused to look at him directly in the eye by continuously letting your gaze shift from book to book on the shelves.
“If that’s fine with you, then sure.”
With shaky hands, you frantically fished inside your bag in an attempt to look for the book. He was silent as you pulled out the said item and handed it over to him. The male, with astonishment dancing in his eyes, took the book from your hands and examined its cover and pages.
“Have. . .have I seen you somewhere before?” you dared ask, eager to confirm if you were plain hallucinating or perhaps the soulmate-thing is indeed true. That, suppose, you also appear in his dreams every night. It was far-fetched, but you were ambitious to find out answers.
The male let out one drained sigh, irritation washed over his features. “Look, if you are trying to hit on me then I’m not interested.”
Wait, what? You weren’t—
“I-I’m not!” you stammered, hands flailing around. “I just thought you look familiar.”
He opened his mouth to respond but was cut short when the deafening clap of the thunder followed by a flash of light interrupted him. Both of you looked out the window to see the sky as black as tar, clouded by dark gray nimbus clouds as small drops of rain fell to the ground. Then it gradually got heavy all too soon.
The color drained from your face as you realized that you forgot to bring an umbrella today. Not only that but you were totally unprepared for the sudden change in weather given that you were wearing a thin shirt.
You bit your lip, brows curling up at the thought of shivering as you wait for the rain to dissipate. If anything, you totally despise the cold and how it makes your nose all runny and hair stand. Internally scolding yourself, you made a mental note to always check the weather update before going out of your dorm.
“Tch. . .” the male clicked his tongue. “Here.”
You were surprised to feel the soft fabric of his jacket draped over your shoulders, giving you warmth. Did he just—did he just gave you his jacket?
“You’re shivering like a fucking wet dog,” he explained. “So wear that. . .”
A flush crept up your face as the musky scent of his cologne with a hint of artificial fragrance from what you presumed is the smell of cleaning products wafted through your nose. You’ve got to say, this jacket of his truly is comfortable. With it being lined with cotton on the inside, the thick wool serving as a second layer for warmth, and the exquisite color combination of forest green and gold of the clothing. Slowly, you slipped your arms inside the sleeves and tucking your hands deep inside its pockets. Oddly enough, it fits you just well given—not too big nor small.
The male turned on his heel, about to take his leave, again, without bidding you farewell. But you grabbed onto his sleeve just in time before he could leave the vicinity.
“When—uhh—when can I return this?”
He looked at you with a confused expression, as if asking if you are dumb or whatnot. “Isn’t that obvious?”
“What I mean is, oh gods, I don’t have any ways to contact you whatsoev—“
“So you want my number?”
Someone please kill me right now, you whimpered.
“What? No, I was ju—“
“Yeah, yeah I get it. Hurry up and give me your phone,” the male pulled out his phone, expecting you to do the same.
The audacity of this guy. He has to be a lady’s man or whatever to be this haughty.
With a shaky breath, you and him both exchange numbers. Mind in a frenzy at the thought of seeing him again and perhaps that wouldn’t be the last time.
“Uhmm. . .So I guess I’ll return the jacket to you once you’ve finished the book. . .?”
Ah, there is that feeling again that keeps pestering you—a thought on the back of your mind.
"Yeah, I'll give the book back to you eventually," he spoke. "I'll see you in another time. . ."
"Yeah. . .” you breathed, calming yourself to prevent blood rushing to your cheeks. “See you.”
A hunch that you have already met him in the past; a fragment in time.

This is an ussop x male reader
This is my first time writing something like this so please take it easy on me but other then that please enjoy
Background info: - pronouns he/him -no devil fruit powers -you and usopp have been together for a couple months by now -you like to jump off of a lot of shit no matter how high sometimes you do get hurt but since you've been doing it for so long it doesn't faze you and doesn't hurt that much anymore
This will not be going in the same timeline or path as the anime/manga sorry kiddos
(S/t) skin tone (p/c) position on crew (y/n) your name (m/n) male name (h/c) hair color (h/t) hair type
Warnings: lil bit of angst
POV No one (author POV)
Y/n was chillin in the crows nest and then he realized that he never jumped off of it (he made it a point to jump off of everything in and on the sunny). Screaming "here I goooo" y/n jumped off onto the grassy portion of the Thousand Sunny. He tumbled and rolled as he hit the grass, then layed flat on his back. He sighed contently, but his head hurt a little and his was a bit dizzy too. Most of the straw hats (zoro was napping) ran towards the (s/t) boy frantically asking if he was ok. Luffy was the exception who went around screaming "SUGOI!" Even though y/n had been with the crew for sometime now, they couldn't seem to get used to the (h/c) boy jumping off of anything and everything he could. Poor Chopper-he had heart attacks every single time. He was always running after y/n with his little medical gear to make sure the poor boy wasn't on the verge of death.
Usopp POV
I ran up with the rest of the gang worried for my boyfriend. I got irritated with Luffy, because he just kept screaming "SUGOIIII!!! ✨✨✨" I ignored him and tried to get to y/n to see if he was ok but everyone crowded around him. They pushed me out of the circle and talked over me. I was so over it, so I yelled louder then I have ever before, "COULD YOU ALL SHUT THE FUCK UP!?! GOD I JUST WANT TO SEE IF MY DUMB BOYFRIEND IS OK!!!" The rest of the gang moved out of the way shocked at my tone. I stomp up to y/n and he smiles and waves and says "Hiiiii babyyyyy" in a kind of loopy voice. "How are you dummy?" I ask. "My head hurts some and I'm kinda dizzy" he replies. I sigh, then start talking softly "ok well bubba let's take you to choppers room and he can fix you up. Then we can spend the rest of the night cuddling. How's that sound?" Y/n tried to get up but I stopped him with my hand, and he says "yessirrrr".
Nobody POV
Usopp then proceeds scoop up y/n and take him to Choppers room, Chopper follows them.
Time skip (brought to you by Sanji's one eyebrow
After Chopper gave y/n a diagnosis Usopp took him back to their shared room. Usopp then layed y/n down in bed and straddled him pouting (it ain't goin that way ya nasties 😤). Y/n looked at Usopp confused, "what's wrong my little sharpshooter?" Usopp blushed but still pouted, "You have a fucking concussion! Why? Cause your dumb ass decided to jump off the crows nest like a fuckin dare devil!" Y/n started to get a little upset, "ITS NOT LIKE I'M FUCKING DEAD! I'M STILL ALIVE AREN'T I?!" Usopp finally let his anger out, "YOU COULD BE DEAD!! YOU'RE NOT LIKE LUFFY OR ZORO OR SANJI!! THOSE GUYS ARE SUPER CRAZY POWERFUL MONSTERS!! THERE'S ONLY ONE OF YOU! WHAT IF ONE TIME IT'S WORSE THEN A CONCUSSION" Y/n felt insulted that Usopp had tried to compare his strength to those three. He screamed, "FUCK YOU I MAY NOT BE AS STRONG, BUT I CAN HELP AND DO THINGS THEY CANT!! I CAN HANDLE MYSELF!! DON'T THROW YOUR INSECURITIES ON ME-JUST CAUSE YOU'RE WEAK DOESN'T MEAN I AM!"..."I GET IT... I know, I'm weak. I know that when it comes down to it I can't even protect you... I mean look at you... you're hurt and I can't even help... I can't do anything to make sure you're ok y/n..." Usopp had tears in his eyes. As he turned away to get up y/n grabbed his wrist and pulled him into a hug. "Whatcha talking bout silly? You've saved me so many times with your amazing sniper skills. I'm sorry about the insecurities thing, I lashed out, and that wasn't ok. But remember no matter what, you'll always be my Sogeking" y/n gave a warm smile. Usopp smiled back "I'm sorry for yelling at you. Just don't scare me like that anymore please?" Y/n nodded "got it boss" Usopp kissed y/n's cheek. "Now my lovely first mate, as per the doctors orders-you need to stay in bed." Y/n laughed "nahhh I'm fineeee". Usopp shakes his head, "if you don't I'll tell Nami and Chopper and they'll give you more then a concussion" Y/n sweat dropped "jeez Sogeking is scary sometimes".

Whumptober Day 4 - Pushed
While it was clear that Ethan was relatively new to combat, he managed to keep up with Chris better than most. Of course, that mainly meant blocking Chris's attacks from properly landing, until he eventually ended up on his ass, but it was still impressive. He'd seen plenty of recruits spend their first few years getting their asses completely handed to them whenever they had to go up against the legendary Chris Redfield. Despite how well Ethan was doing, Chris harshly chastised him immediately following every bout. There was no mention of what he did right, just what he needed to do to improve.
When he began to see the edges of frustration beginning to poke through Ethan's determined facade, he finally pushed off the wall to interrupt their training session. They were on the verge of gearing up to go another round when Chris noticed him out of the corner of his eye. His stance instantly went from tensed in preparation to fight to relaxed. The sudden change drew Ethan's attention to him as well, but he didn't relax like Chris.
“Why don't you get some water? I need to talk to Chris for a minute.” Without a word, Ethan went to the opposite side of the room to grab one of the water bottles on a bench. “You're in a mood today.”
“What does that mean?”
“He's doing an amazing job for how new he is, and you're constantly snapping at him.”
“He needs to learn.”
“And you think drilling into him is the best way to do that? If that was your normal style, I wouldn't be questioning it, but I remember you being much more patient with me when you taught me how to fly.”
“The circumstances weren't the same.”
“What are the circumstances?”
“I can't tell you that.”
He snorted humorlessly and crossed his arms over his chest. “Why? Because your higher ups said so? Everyone knows that we tell each other everything. What is the real reason you don't want to tell me?”
“It's not my information to share. He doesn't even know.”
“That sounds dangerous. Why exactly doesn't he know?”
“Look, his wife asked me not to tell him.”
“You're keeping whatever this is from him because his wife asked you to? It's reason enough you feel the need to rush teaching him how to defend himself, but not enough to tell him. If it were me, would you hide it?”
“Leon...” The slow slump of Chris's shoulders as he wilted in on himself reminded Leon of all the times the weight Chris bore nearly crushed him, but he didn't let that thought dissuade him from standing his ground. “There are a lot of unknowns, and it would just stress him out. Mia's already stressed out of her mind because of it. There's nothing they can do for him. I don't know what's going to happen to him.”
“That doesn't mean pushing him like this is the answer, especially when he's not like you. He's not a wall of muscle. He should be training with someone that can teach him how to use what he does have.”
“I'm trying.”
“I know, but I'll take it from here for today. Even if my style doesn't work for him, I'm sure he'll appreciate the change of pace.”
“Yeah, that's probably a good idea.”
For a long stretch, they fell into silence that Leon broke by taking Chris's hands in his own and speaking in a low voice. “Things like this always come out eventually. You can keep pushing him-emotionally and physically-without explanation or you can tell him the truth and be there for him. I've found that the lies that hurt the worse are the ones by omission if that makes a difference.”
“I love you. You know that, right?”
“Yes.” The arms that wrapped around his waist pulled him in for a crushing hug that he returned with a light kiss against Chris's temple. “Of course, I know that. You tell me every single day. How could I forget?”
“I know you wouldn't. I know.”
“I love you, too.”
“Yeah. I'm going to be in my office working on some paperwork, so when you're done here.”
“Don't worry, I haven't forgotten where your office is. I'll meet you there.”
“Thank you.”
“You can thank me later by letting me pick dinner.”
“Deal.”
After stealing a quick kiss, Chris exited the training room leaving Leon alone with Ethan for the first time since they met. Most of what he knew about Ethan came from reports and conversations with Chris about work. The few times they spoke when Leon dropped by to see Chris, he had been polite and on the quiet side. That didn't mean he would be this time because Chris had a unique way of pissing people off that got so severely under their skin all rational thought went out the window. Hopefully, Ethan hadn't reached that point yet.
“Hey.” Ethan looked up from staring at the bench like it held the secrets of the universe, showing obvious confusion when he noticed Chris missing. “He's got some paperwork to handle. If you're still up for it, I might be able to teach you a few things.”
“Sure.”
With an intense focus, Ethan shifted his stance and waited patiently for Leon to make the first move. Experimentally, he dropped down to sweep at Ethan's legs, which he barely managed to stumble backwards to avoid. While Ethan was getting his feet properly back under him, Leon launched forward to catch him on the left side. His attempt to recenter turned into struggling to stay on his feet as his body twisted forcing his left foot off the ground. He quickly spun around to take advantage of Ethan's momentum by turning his spin into a flip over Leon's back.
A groan forced its way out of Ethan's chest as he pushed himself onto his knees while struggling to catch his breath. With a huff, he dropped back onto his bottom and stared up at Leon, obviously waiting for him to say something. Instead of immediately speaking, he dropped onto the mat across from him with his legs crossed and hands behind him to lean back. After a moment of quiet, Ethan took his casual posture as a sign to relax into a similar one.
“You're used to fighting a bigger opponent than you. What works against Chris isn't guaranteed to work against me.”
“You're faster than he is.”
“Not all of us can be built like tanks. If push comes to shove, Chris can brute force his way out of most things, but that's not how we're built. What do you rely on?”
“I don't know.”
“That's fine. It's something that take time to figure out. Fighting against people with different styles will help you do that.”
For a quiet moment, Ethan considered Leon's words, then he rose to his feet with a hand extended to help Leon up. “Can you teach me how to flip?”
“As long as you promise not to slam me down too hard, I'm not as young as I used to be.”
“Why do I get the feeling you're just saying that to lure me into a false sense of security?”
“It's important to understand your opponent.”
“How am I doing so far?”
“Good. You should never underestimate your opponent. Now, ready to learn?”
“Yes, but I just... thank you for whatever you said to Chris. All of this has been a lot.”
“When I first got into all of this, I was just a rookie cop going in for his first day. I had some training, but B.O.W.s are something else entirely.” Before his thoughts could sink further into old memories, he quickly moved on. “Getting thrown in the deep end is difficult, especially when people set high expectations for you. Luckily, I can give you some advice.”
“What advice?”
“Don't let Chris push you past your limits. If he starts to be too much, tell him you're done and walk away.”
“Really?”
“Trust me, it'll work.”

As re-entering a link from herzeleid.com never seem to work (??) I usually copy and paste the actual text. Remember a transcription of Flake chatting with fans that I posted from early 00'? Before this Paul had a similar if not the same chat. I have already too long post in tumblr now so it will be broken down in 2 parts!
PAUL CHAT WITH FANS part I
Transcribed by Jeremy Williams
Taken from Rammstein.com chat
October 26 , 2005
_____________________________
Mod: Hello to you all. Thanks for coming out. Paul will be here in just a few minutes. And then we're going to get started.
Paul: Let's go!
niti: +++
Mod: Sorry, there was a technical problem. But the chat will start soon.
niti: +++
**atomrt: how do you chose the sounds for each song because all of them fit perfectly?**
Paul: Thanks a lot! Sometimes that works out well, sometimes not so well.+++
**maria: Your album covers have always sparked a lot of controversy. Which cover is your favourite and why?**
Paul: The cover for Sehnsucht was the most dramatic in my opinion.+++
**Benzramm: What was coming out of the fake penis during the live act "Bück Dich"? **
Paul: That was water with Ouzo to make it milky.+++
**Beurgueur: Good evening, Have you ever thought to write a metal-opera based on rammstein’ story?**
Paul: Hopefully not. We have enough theater elements already.+++
**MafiUndomiel: I was at River Plate Stadium in Argentina, 1999, when you toured with KISS. You did almost surpassed KISS music and show with your impact, and many people was really impressed. I still remember the silence during Du Hast, as Till was singing the refrain. What do you remember of Argentina, of this show? **
Paul: Yeah, that was unbelievable. It's a shame that we can't play in South America this time. Flake was seriously ill.+++
**MafiUndomiel: Did Till write Te Quiero Puta on his own, or had some kind of external help? I know it's not very complicated, nor elaborated in the lyrics, but it's not easy to put two or three sentences together if you don't know the language... believe me! I'm still trying with German!**
Paul: He had some help from his girlfriend and from Flake's friend from Chile.
Paul: But Till can already speak Spanish so well that he only had a few questions about grammar.+++
**monkeyman: What type of gear do you use when recording in the studio?**
Paul: This would take two hours to list. Too much for now. Sorry.+++
**Hugo: Why did you choose almost the same cover for the japanese version of Reise, Reise and Rosenrot? **
Paul: Because we thought it would be a shame to use the cover only for the Japanese edition.+++
**MafiUndomiel: There are many bands that edited DVD and VHS with the footage they got when they recorded their albums, the creative process and all that stuff. Since many R+ fans are really interested in knowing "Rammstein's kitchen", have you considered releasing something of that kind?
** Paul: I filmed some of the footage during Reise, Reise and it will come out sometime on a DVD as bonus material.+++
**blastedop: What happened to Live DVD? It was delayed? **
Paul: Yeah a little bit, but we're going to try to do it this year.+++
**MafiUndomiel: I wanted to know how did you put your setlists together when you go to a country you've never been... you mix old and new material, or you prefer to show your new material above all, and play only the "classics"? **
Paul: We play a mix of both old and new.+++
**Jenna: As you are possibly the most successful band from Germany (singing in German) that you are expected to represent German music and culture to the rest of the world? **
Paul: It was never our plan to play all over the world.
Paul: Sometimes we wonder ourselves how this all happened.+++
**beurgueur: what american film director would you enjoy to make a ckip with **
Paul: Tarantino.+++
**Benzramm: Did you ever get hurt when you were working with fire on the live acts ? **
Paul: Sometimes.+++
**aeon: One Rammstein member said you had a movie project with Werner Herzog. Do you think this project will be carried out and would you like to act in something different from Rammstein videos ? **
Paul: It's been awhile with WErner herzog. Maybe it will work out, there's still a plan to do it.
Paul: +++
**Rammsteinizied: Dear Paul: What is your favorite live performance effect? (like the flamethrowes in Feuer frei or the bow in DRSG) **
Paul: The nose flame throwers that we use in Feuer frei!+++
**MafiUndomiel: Which was your first guitar? Do you still own it? **
Paul: It was a Telecaster copy. A cheap one. I gave away my first guitars at an auction for a good cause. No idea whether it worked out.+++
**Straya: This has been in my mind for a while now, and I must ask. From the sample songs on the official site, it seems Rosenrot might be your 'hardest/loudest' albums, the songs seem 'hard', in a way, like Ich Will, Feuer Frei, and Mein Teil; what do you think of this? **
Paul: I don't think so. There are fewer sequences so the guitars come out better.+++
**Synthema: Do you still feel that being in Rammstein is almost like being in a six-way marriage? Does the band still function as a tight a unit or have things drifted apart? **
Paul: Yeah.
Paul: We're still together. Knock on wood. We've been together for 10 years and now that we've gone through our crisis, we feel better than ever.
Paul: We've got money, success, beautiful women and all the rest.
Paul: Things can only get worse.+++
**Jenna: Do you think your videos help to stop you taking yourselves too seriously? **
Paul: We've always taken ourselves less seriously than many people think. our best friends know this.
Paul: At the moment, we don't feel like making any humouress videos.+++
**whiskeypapa: When writing a song, how many/what kinds of revisions does the song go through before finally making it onto an album? **
Paul: Some songs make it out directly as we conceived them. With other songs, we make 20 versions and they still don't make it.
Paul: +++
**Noora: HI! I'm a fashion and design student from Finland and I was wondering about your stage costumes...How much do you participate in the designing and making of the outfits that you use on your tours? I understand that every album has its own look. Do you first design the outline of the look as a band and hen consult a designer and maker? Thanx and welcome back to Finland! :)**
Paul: Most ideas come directly from the band. For the last outfit, we had the idea to combine Bavarian folkloric outfits with industrial.
Paul: Because Bavarian folklore is not very cool and we like to mix things that you're not supposed to.+++
**Beurgueur: Have you ever thought in what your life would be now if rammstein never was created?**
Paul: No. We don't think that way.+++
**minx: It’s been stated in several interviews that the band has two pyromaniacs in the group, but is there anyone who is not so fond of fire?**
Paul: Everybody in the band has a different specialty.
Paul: Each of us is really equally important.
Paul: It doesn'T matter what each does, it could be better when two are on vacation during preparation and actually help us to make a good video this way.+++
**Badeend: Who thinks of the titles of the cd's? Is it some kind of democraty or is it 1 man that decides?**
Paul: We make the decision as a group but it's not really a democracy. More like a board of directors.+++
**Biz: How have older industrial bands (such as Laibach or KMFDM) influenced you?**
Paul: A lot.
Paul: Also Ministry.+++
**minx: What is the oily black/brown liquid that you are all covered with on stage? Is it a fire retardant liquid?**
Paul: No.
Paul: That's a secret.+++
**minx: Why did you wear a paper bag over your head at the concert in Tallin, last November?**
Paul: I wanted to display an Iraqi prisoner.
Paul: There's a photo of a guy behind barbed wire and he's holding his son but he has a bag on his head.
Paul: That photo really had an impact on me.+++
**aeon: Why do you only do signing sessions in London and Paris? Why not in other big cities f Europe or even Germany? Or is anything planned? **
Paul: Actually we've only planned for Paris. London snuck in at the last minute.
Paul: I don't know any more signing sessions details right now.+++
**Badeend: Did you take gitar lessons or did you teach it on your self?**
Paul: Self-taught.
Paul: +++
**minx: I am going to be at the signing in London on Sunday. Do you enjoy doing those types of promotional events or are they just ‘hard work’?**
Paul: Sometimes it's a lot of fun but other times it can be exhausting.+++
**Synthema: It could be said that the "Rosenrot" photos are quite a departure image-wise from what one would expect from the band. Was this something that was decided by the band for a particular reason, or is this the sort of decision that is out of your hands? Does your management or record label have much control over how you present yourselves, or is that left to you?**
Paul: We don't like to repeat ourselves.
Paul: Usually the band always has the last word on these amtters. But weR'e not always interested in all of the details.+++
**Badeend: What is the new instrument you used in the song Te Quiero Puta?**
Paul: Trumpet.+++
**beurgueur: do you think you'll be on stage again when you'll be 60? (like rolling stones for example...)**
Paul: Hopefully somebody will die first. Then we won'T have to worry about that.+++
**minx: Do you do you all do own make-up for the shows?**
Paul: Yes.+++
**OK-River: Will Rammstein play again "Bück Dich" in a concert, or it is something of the past?**
Paul: I wouldn't say no.+++
**blastedop: Rosenrot is so diferent from Reise Reise. How is this possible if these songs are from Reise Reise recording season?**
Paul: I don'T think so. Listen to the whole album.+++
**Benzramm: Are you a sort of scared when flake is going with his boat in the public ? **
Paul: No.
Paul: But it was always Oli last year.+++
**whiskeypapa: Which of your songs invokes the most emotion from you?**
Paul: Seemann.+++
**MsBehaviour: Greetings from Finland and good evening! My question is, you have been playing together as a band for quite a many years now, and there is a big difference in the sound of Herzeleid and the sound of Reise Reise. Does this "evolution" come naturally to you, or do you make conscious decisions as to where to direct your sound? How do you feel about the change?**
Paul: There are some of us who want to stay the same.
Paul: There's some of us who want to always change.
Paul: These parties fight each other and the result is a new album or a black eye.+++
**MafiUndomiel: Have you heard a cover version of Keine Lust made by a Russian guy called Miguel? What did you think about it?**
Paul: Not yet, unfortunately.+++
**Badeend: Do you have a private jet or do you have to rent a plane?**
Paul: When the record company pays, we fly Business. When we have to pay, it'S Tourist class. Sometimes, when the connections are difficult, we rent a litlle jet.+++
**luna: First "Snow White" now "Rose Red". Do the members of Rammstein have a fondness for fairytales?**
Paul: Who doesn't?+++
**Synthema: Do you still enjoy performing live after all these years, or is it more of a chore now?**
Paul: If we didn't like it, we wouldn't have been around so long.+++
**Benzramm: Is there a double meaning in the songtexts of your songs ? **
Paul: Yeah. But the subtleties and double-meanings get lsot in translation.+++
**Badeend: What is your favorite song or cd?**
Paul: Kill Bill 1.+++
**DRS2G: Is "Hilf Mir" inspired by a Heinrich Hoffmann's tale?!**
Paul: Yes.+++
**Synthema: Have you ever felt that the success of Rammstein has been a negative thing for you in your personal life? That it makes it difficult to decide who to trust and who not to?**
Paul: It is difficult to stay normal despite money and success.
Paul: We fight this on a daily battle but we usually win.+++
**Beurgueur: from a viewer: what guitar do you use for your c tuning, and what guitar does richard use for this?**
Paul: I play a Gibson Les Paul and Richard plays ESP guitars.+++
**Benzramm: Did you really go to the mountains for the videoclip "Ohne Dich"?**
Paul: Yes. The was the funnest video of them all.
Paul: The thin air up there was difficult.
Paul: I'm impressed by mountain climbers who go even higher.
Paul: It was difficult for our crew and us.+++
**MafiUndomiel: how did you and richard decided who was going to be lead and who rythm guitars?**
Paul: Good question.
Paul: We're both stubborn.
Paul: It's a fight every time but we're still doing alright up to now.
Paul: Actually, the winner is supposed to be the one who plays the best solo.+++
**Badeend: Do you still have to take guitar lessons to play better?**
Paul: No.+++
**blastedop: Do you visit fansites? How about a Top 10 Fansites in the official page?**
Paul: From time to time.+++
**Badeend: Why did you pick just that girl for the Texas vocal in Stirb nich vor Mir?**
Paul: It was our producer's idea.+++
**MafiUndomiel: Paul, is there any country that you´d like to visit or going on tour, and you haven´t yet? Why?**
Paul: Yes, we would love to go to Turkey, Mongolia, Iraq. We know we've got lots of fans there.+++
**Jenna: Which current musicians (Not youselves, I'm sorry) do you think are creating the best work at the moment?**
Paul: System of a Down, Muse, Snoop Doggy Dog, Eminem, Slip Knot, etc.+++
**Rammsteinizied: Dear Paul, How do you feel about us fans?**
Paul: It's an honour.+++
**Minx: Do you have a favourite guitar part in a particular song you really enjoy?**
Paul: +++
**DRS2G: Will "Rosenrot" be the 2nd single from your new album?!**
Paul: Yes.+++
**Straya: I'm wondering how this question has not come up yet... but, plenty of people are asking if you guys will tour in America and Canada. I don't mean for this to be one of those annoying questions. But, has anything be talked about?**
Paul: I'm certain that we'll tour North and South America with our next album.+++
**rammsteinuk: I read in a recent interview that there were some arguments within the band during the production of 'Mutter'. Have there been any more strong disagreements like this since?
**Paul: Thankfully not. There's always stress when six stubborn people meet, but nothing serious.+++
**minx: Most influential musician on yourself?**
Paul: Laibach, Ministry, Metallica, Nirvana.+++
**blastedop: Did you like Benzin video? Schneider didnt.**
Paul: I don't think it's that bad.
Paul: We've had three really good videos in a row, so it'S hard to keep the standards so high.
Paul: I'm glad that there's some variation, next time we'll improve.+++
**whiskeypapa: First, Reise Reise saw a "country moment" with Los, and now Rosenrot has Te Quiero Puta. If you could make a fusion of Rammstein and any other world music (for fun), what would it be?**
Paul: Yes, I interested in all combinations of things that don'T fit together.+++
**Biz: Are there any downsides to being famous?**
Paul: We're famous but we can still buy groceries in Berlin without bodyguards.
Paul: We've got nothing to complain about.
Paul: Our band is famous around the world but we still have normal lives, thank God.+++
**minty: Paul are you looking forward to the world cup next year? who will win?**
Paul: Yes. It doesn'T look good for Germany right now.
Paul: I hope that a miracle happens.+++
**aeon: Do you hope your music will still be appreciated in many years from now or it doesn't matter to you ?**
Paul: I think that we're relatively timeless.
Paul: But that'S probably what every band thinks and two years later nobody cares ...+++
**DRS2G: Was it good to be directed by Jonas Akerlund?!**
Paul: Yes, he's just a cool guy.+++

Break A Leg: Chapter 11
Masterlist
***Author’s Note: Hey everyone, I am so sorry that you’ve waiting this long for this story to finish out. I happened to come on here after I haven’t been on Tumblr for almost two years. I honestly thought I had posted the last chapter but realized it’s been sitting in my drafts this whole time! How freaking lame!! Anyways, this got an updated edit and without further ado, the last chapter to Break A Leg! I hope you like it!***
Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction. I do not own, possess, or have any links to Chris Evans, nor do I profit off of this work. Any claims otherwise are grossly misleading. This work is not to be posted anywhere else without my explicit permission.
If you would like to be added to any future tag list, reply here or send me an ask. I’d be happy to add you! Happy reading!
Word Count: ~2,500
The Beginning
“Sooooo. . .you've been talking to your mom about me?”
Chris begins to turn crimson as he tries to explain away anything Lisa may have overshared.
“Oh god, what did she say? I only told her the good stuff, I promise. I will talk to her about being nosy. She’s a sweet woman. I love her to death and tell her everything.” he says with a shrug of his shoulder.
“I could tell that, yeah.” I say, not being able to hide the smile that beams from my face in listening to him talk about his mom.
“You have no idea.” He chuckles, and I can visibly see the tension leave his body as he realizes I'm not mad.
"Don't worry Evans, I think it's sweet and I don't mind. Just a little taken aback I guess. I don't know, she seemed really excited to meet me. I want to meet her too, don't get me wrong! It's just…" I take a small breathe as I meet Chris eyes as he waits for me to find the words. "… Is she that excited to meet all of your friends?"
"Well, I mean. C'mon Y/N, you're not just anybody! You're…you're you."
Before I can push him further on what he means, he presses on.
"Y/N, about in the hallway before Sandra came out…"
"Yeah… I think that maybe we should talk…" Now its my turn to be nervous as it's not clear where he's taking this.
In the middle of Chris beginning to speak, my phone goes off. We both laugh uncomfortably, the nerves of the new subject getting more frazzled at the second interruption since being alone. Saved by the bell again!
I pull my phone out of my back pocket and I see that it's ringing for a reminder with my date with Jessie. My face drops. How could I forget about… Shit!
When Chris sees the change in expression, he can tell there's a problem. "What's wrong?"
"It's um…it's a reminder. I have to go, I'm sorry." I get up and walk away back to my cabin with conviction in my step. To my surprise, Chris doesn't follow me, but the separation is good. I need time to think.
How the hell did I not remember I told Jessie we could go on a date tonight? It completely slipped my mind. If I never set my alarm, I would not have even batted an eye staying at the dock longer with Chris. Confusion continues running through my mind as I check the clock on my phone again as I reach my porch. Had it already gotten that late? We couldn't have been out there that long already could we? And I rush back here to go on a date?!
I can only think of one thing do at a time like this. With a little under an hour before Jessie shows, I dial Hannah's number. On the second ring, She picks up.
"Hey love, love!"
"Oh Hannah, thank god. I need to talk to you, and I don’t have too much time." I explain to her everything that's happened since I got here and the current predicament. She's listens patiently, and understands my dilemma.
"Hannah, what do I do? With Jessie, and all the old feelings… It's just so easy to fall back into it but Chris…he's something else entirely. I can't get him out of my head or heart. I see small glimmers here and there that maybe he fees the same but I don't know what he wants. It's a risk to lay it all out there not knowing. What do I do? Jessie will be here any minute and I'm so confused."
Hannah is quiet while she thinks everything over for a few moments.
"Y/N, your heart knows what you want. I know it's scary, but that's why you should go for it. Lean into the fear and trust that it would work out. Given everything you've told me, I would be hard pressed to think Chris doesn't have feelings for you. You know what you need to do. I know you gotta get ready or whatever, but I love you. Call me later if you need to talk, okay?"
"Ugh, okay. I hate it when you're right sometimes. I love you, too. We'll talk soon."
Thinking to myself as I get ready with 8pm quickly approaching, I'm finding butterflies beginning in my stomach. The nervousness of what's ahead sinking in more. Before long, I hear a knock on my door, and open it to see Jessie standing there with a bouquet of wildflowers. I welcome him in while I place them in a vase with some water.
"You look great Y/N! I have some fun stuff planned for tonight…" he trails off as he realizes something is off as I don't make eye contact with him or say anything. "Y/N, is everything ok?"
I take a deep breathe as I sit him down next to me.
'Jessie, look. Given our history, I think that it's very important that I be as open and honest with you as I can right now. All day, I've been completely distracted… and you weren't on my mind even once. I forgot about our date until my alarm went off to remind me to get ready. And then, once that happened I began to get butterflies and so nervous, but - " Before I could finish, Jessie speaks up.
“Listen, I know we've never gotten the timing right with this, but I can’t help but feel like fate has brought us together this time. Like….things have finally matched up and we can, I don’t know, give us a try? Before you say anything, can we agree to take some time this week to feel each other out. No expectations, just getting to know each other better again. It’s been awhile, and I know some things must have changed….I know they have for me.”
Giving thought to his words, my mind can’t help but wander to Chris.
Chris said it himself. TWICE. You guys are just friends. What if I go for it and he still feels that way? But Hannah was right, there is something there…something that feels beyond what I can even put into words. The almost kiss, the comfortability on the dock, him being so trusting and open with me? Why not lean in to it? And this, with Jessie? This is just…..safe. Hannah said I need to lean into the fear if that's what my heart wants…
Gathering my resolve, I think to myself for a moment, trying to figure out what the hell to say. Looking at Jessie, I can feel the right choice planting itself even further in my heart as my nerves continue to grow until the words reach my lips.
“You know what? Under normal circumstances, I would probably say yes to that but…I don't feel like I can right now. I did get butterflies before you came because I know what my heart wants. Falling back into this would be easy and low-maintenance…safe. But I don't want that, I want fireworks and passion. I want to feel electricity from a knowing stare across the room or my heart pounding from an almost kiss. I-I just…we don't have that chemistry anymore, Jessie. I have it with someone else, and I don't know what's going to happen but I know I have to at least try, or I'd never forgive myself. I'm sorry. You're a great guy and you deserve to find someone who feels this way about you, but that's not me anymore. It just wouldn't be fair to you if my heart isn't in it. I hope you understand.”
After some time of silence, the tension releases from my shoulders, and I can see him process my words.
"I guess that settles it then, Y/N. I appreciate your honesty, and to be honest, I could see the chemistry between you and Chris as soon as you guys arrived. I always told myself that if I ever saw you again, that I would try again but I understand now that I just got wrapped up in the past and I'm sorry for that."
At the mention of Chris, my eyes shoot up to meet Jessie's. "But I didn't say who it was..."
"You didn't have to. It's obvious and there's been a lot of talk since you guys got here. I shouldn't have even tried to get you back, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity for us to actually have a shot at what we kept failing at for years. Listen, he's a great guy, and if he's the one for you, I'm happy for you. Truly. You could do worse than him. Just be careful. His lifestyle and career… it's no joke."
We both fall silent for a moment at him verbalizing something I hadn't even considered yet, the fame that Chris has to bear. Where would that leave me if this goes any further?
Seeing the gears turning in my head, Jessie interrupts my thoughts thrown into overdrive. "Have you talked to him about your feelings yet?"
"No, I've been trying to deny them for many reasons…I don't know what he wants. He says we're friends, but I feel like there's more there. I know I want more, but it's scary to approach it without knowing."
"Only one way to find out kid. Follow your heart, and your gut. He'd be crazy not to go for it with you. You're a catch, Y/N."
I walk him to the door, and give him a hug on the porch.
"Thanks Jessie, and thank you for being so understanding"
Pulling away, I see that Chris has walked back, and is just getting to his porch. He waits until Jessie leaves to say anything.
"That's what all the rush was about? Him?" I can hear slight frustration in his voice as he says this to me while crossing the distance to his door. Is Chris…jealous?
"I-I, Yes it was, but I made it very clear to him that it wasn't going to work. My heart isn't in it…it's with someone else."
At hearing this, Chris comes to a halt, key at the ready.
"I had to be honest with him. I Couldn't…not when…" my words trail off as Chris' eyes meet mine and I can feel all of the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
"Not when what, Y/N?" he says, walking towards me on his porch, and I can see uncertainty dance in his expression.
I feel my anxiety and fear build up inside of me. Tears begin to well in my eyes and I know what I need to say but getting the words to come out is proving difficult.
I take in a shaky breath to gather myself. Y/N, you can do this. Tell him you're worth it. That you both deserve to give this a real shot.
My pulse quickens as my breathing begins to saw in and out of me, but I hold my ground "Not when...my heart is with you. I want you."
I look at Chris and in a matter of seconds, I see confusion and frustration fade from his face to be replaced by the biggest smile I have seen of his to date.
In seeing the change in his demeanor at my admission, the tears begin to spill over, clouding my eyes to point of blurring my vision so when I begin to feel steps on my porch, I was a little startled.
I wipe my eyes and see Chris standing before me. He reaches for me and pulls me into his arms with no words, knowing that I need a minute to compose myself.
I take in a deep breath, his scent settling around me, and I feel myself starting to relax.
"Chris, I'm.....let me explain....I-"
"No Y/N, it's okay. I'm just happy you're less of a chicken shit than I am."
I feel his laughter vibrate our bodies as he lifts his head, and pulls back to see my confused expression.
"Wait-"
"I feel the same way, and clearly you're scared but Y/N, you're one of the most kind and caring people I have ever met. I would be crazy to NOT to be interested in you! Ever since I dumped my coffee all over you and you threw your panties at me, I knew I had to keep you around by any means necessary." I slap his chest as we recall the haphazard way we met a couple months ago.
"Hey, HEY…" he says, as he shields himself from any more of my attack and we continue to chuckle. "What I'm trying to say is that you're amazing and I have feelings for you too. I don't know when it happened but you burrowed your way into my heart and I…I love having you there "
Listening to this, I am overjoyed. I grab Chris and I pull him in close, resting our foreheads together.
"Oh Chris, that makes me so happy to hear. I was so scared that I would ruin this if I said something and you didn't feel the same way but I couldn't ignore it anymore. You're in my heart too, and there's so much we need to talk about and discuss… a lot to figure out but I want to face all of that with you."
"I know Y/N. I know being with me has it's own challenges that a normal relationship doesn’t have to endure but I will do everything in my power to protect you while giving you the world because you deserve it…WE deserve it. You feel that too, right?"
"Yes, I do. I really do. There's a lot a stake when you lead with your heart."
"There always is but you're worth it, what we will build together will be worth it." He holds me to his chest again as I begin to full out cry, the emotions of it all overtaking me. After a few moments, I can feel his tears beginning to mingle with mine, and the realization hits me that this is real. This is my life and he's not going anywhere.
After we both compose ourselves and have calmed down, I embolden myself and look up into his eyes. "I guess there's only one thing to worry about right now then…to finish this."
The question forming behind his eyes before it reaches his lips, "Finish what?"
"The beginning of us."
Recognition falls over Chris face as I pull him in so our lips to finally meet for the first time, and I can feel in my soul; this is the moment I realize he's the only one that could capture my heart.
As we share our first kiss, I feel the world settle around me. This feels right, here in each other's arms without a care in sight. There's no place I'd rather be and to think it all started with a chance encounter.
~The End~

Mystic Sisters- Ch.18 On the Run
Materlist🌙🌹
Hikari's Pov
I sat next to Yua on the train headed towards Yokohama. We left the church early this morning. Neither one of us knew where we were going. We decided to go somewhere so we can figure out what to do. We just had to be away from our parents. That night after everything that happened Yua still tried to reason with Dad.
"Dad" Yua pleaded, grabbing his shirt sleeve. "I just want you to listen to me for once. There's weird things happening to Hikari and I-."
'Go to bed. I'm too tired to deal with this." He deadpanned, snatching his shirt from Yua's grip. There was no emotion on his face and no sincerity in his voice. I watched him walk past her up to his bedroom.
"Too tired to care about your kids huh? It's like you don't want us here." Yua whispered.
"It'd be easier wouldn't it?" He snapped from the top of the stairs. Maybe things would be easier if we didn't adopt you two. You were suspicious about living her since day one. If it wasn't for you mom I would have given you back."
I shook Yua, waking her up from her slumber. She opened her eyes and yawned. The train stopped and we quickly got off the train. We found a small hotel nearby that was next to a convenience store. We stopped there first to stock up on food and water. Getting back to our room I plopped down on the bed. I took my phone out and stared at the wallpaper. There were no new messages or missed
"No calls or texts?" Yua asked, laying down next to me. I shook my head tossing my phone beside me.
"We left yesterday and our so-called parents don't even care. I would say I'm shocked but I'm really not."
Yua and I ate breakfast that consisted of juice and pancakes. After we ate I took a shower. I took off my jacket and shivered because of how cold the room was. I pulled off my beanie and tossed it in the pile of my clothes on the bathroom floor. Something about it felt off. I quickly turned back and picked the beanie up. This wasn't mine. It was Akio's. I guess when I was packing I grabbed his hat and not mine. I shook my head, placing Akio's beanie on the bathroom counter. Yua isnt gonna let me hear the end of this is she? When I came out of the shower Yua was under the blankets snoring loudly. There was a chair by the window so I decided to sit there and read for awhile. Well attempt to read over my sister's snoring. The sky was gray and cloudy. It looked like it could rain or maybe even snow. A few minutes later it started to rain. I watched the rain fall down and leave droplets on the window. I ran my fingers over the cold glass turning the water into frozen ice. Placing my palm on the window it started to heat up and immediately melt. The window turned hot making me move my hand back. What don't tell me I have fire powers now? The room was cold so I grabbed a blanket off the bed and wrapped myself in it. Before I knew it I had fallen asleep.
Yua's pov
I sat at the edge of the lake watching the ducks take a late night swim. The moonlight beamed down on the water beautifully.
"Yua you're gonna freeze" Haru said from behind me, making me jump. He wrapped his jacket around me and sat beside me. He was still dressed in his training gear meaning he must have just gotten back.
"What are you doing out here anyways? It's late."
"Feeding the ducks." I told him handing him the bag of bread crumbs. He tossed a hand full and the ducks gathered around. It was silent between us but it was a comfortable silence. The only sound came from the ducks happily eating.
"Still thinking about what your mom said?" Haru finally said. I nodded bringing my knees to my chest.
"It's a lot of responsibility. Taking care of my sister and one day taking over the kingdom. I don't know if I'm ready for that yet.
"Well I know once you fully turn you'll be ready. I can already see it when we train?
"Yeah?" I questioned turning to look at him. He nodded. "Your parent's see it too. You've already learned so much. Don't stress about it. When it's time you'll do fine. Plus you have Hikari and I." He smiled.
"Yeah but you're the only one that Will remember any of this" I laughed. "Even when I do see you again I won't know who you are."
"You'll remember one day too. Once you get your memories back you'll remember everything. Including this moment now. that part was true. One day we'll all be able to come back to the castle. There won't be people coming after Hikari and I. Well if they do we'll be ready for them.
I woke up to the sound of rain hitting the window. It was pouring rain. Checking the time on my phone it was 4:52pm. I closed my eyes trying to process the dream I just had.
"Hikari?" I called out. She didn't respond so I sat up and noticed she wasn't in bed with me. I saw her sleep in the chair with the blanket falling off. I picked the blanket off the floor and wrapped her in it. She stirred a little in her sleep mumbling something.
"Hm?" I asked.
"Akio..." she mumbled again.
"So first you steal his hat and now you're having dreams about him" I smirked.
I laid back in the bed starving up at the ceiling. This dream was just like the last one. This time everything was more clear. Maybe what I was seeing was a memory. Everything about it seemed real. Plus Haru and I talked about me not being able to remember. What wouldn't I remember? That night? Or was there more? The last time I tried to talk to Haru about it he got defensive. Maybe that's why. He mentioned that I would start to remember. Did he not want me to? I knew then but now I know he's not telling me something. It would make sense with the way he's been acting lately.
"I knew he was lying."
"Who?" Hikari asked. I opened my eyes and she was standing over me. I grabbed the pillow next to me hitting her in the head with it.
"Why are you watching me sleep?"
"Why'd you hit me?" She pouted.
"Why are you having dreams about Akio?" I shot back.
"What?"
I cocked my head to the side grinning at her, she rolled her eyes and picked up the pillow hitting me with it. After hitting me she sat down across from me. I sat up while Hikari stared at me.
"Why are you staring at me?"
"I'm hungry" I signed, grabbing my phone. "You're always hungry
"Sushi"? She nodded smiling happily.
Riyoshi Pov
"Where the hell are they?!" Haru growled giving Akio and I a death glare. He tried his best to be intimidating but he wasn't. Honestly I don't know what Yua sees in this guy.
"We told you we don't have them.'' I said, stepping closer.
"I don't believe you. Now tell me or get your ass beat."
I chuckled and looked back at Akio. "Do you hear this guy."
"Yea he's pretty delusional and persistent." The younger one said in an annoyed tone.
"Aye! I'm right here and I can hear you." Haru walked up to me grabbing my collar. "Tell me where they are." he demanded.
"So you're like the bodyguard? You suck man, Like legit who trained you?"
I must have pissed him off as his face scrunched up and he launched me as far as he could but his throw had no aggression whatsoever. I landed on my two feet easily. "Now you pissed me off."
"Yo Riyoshi we are really wasting our time on this dude. I kicked his ass like a week and a half ago so imagine what you could do."
I sighed in irritation. "Don't ruin this man I need to let off a little steam anyway." Akio put his hands up and backed up as if I needed more space.
"Ahh lil tough guy huh. Your mommy teach you that?" Haru taunted.
"What are you 11." I said as I pulled at least 5 daggers out of my weapons belt "Any Last words buddy?"
"Yea. I'm not your buddy" Haru spat.
"That attitude makes me wanna shoot you instead but I have no wooden bullets for you today."I sucked my teeth mad at myself. "Too bad you'll die slower I guess." I shrugged then launched all 5 daggers at him. He dodged a couple of them but since I'm savage I threw a few extra that he didn't see. Hitting him in both legs, his Right ankle, his chest and face.
These hits weren't fatal but he won't realize that till later. I ran up and kicked the dagged further into his chest and watched him fall to the ground groaning in pain and eventually passing out. "Damn that was quick"
"He might get back up, he had more fight in him when I was up against him."
"You didn't launch 5 daggers into his pressure points though. And the one in his face will definitely leave a scar.
"Did that one for fun."
"You really scare me sometimes man." Akio said with a straight face "he's not dead tho. I thought you were gonna kill him."
"Nah I really wanna shoot him so he'll have to wait till I finish carving bullets for that."
"Why do you wanna use weapons so bad?"
"Because I cant use them on Levi and I really wanna shoot him."
"Makes sense." Akio nodded in understanding and turned his attention to the knocked out vampire.
"That is just sad. Imagine being that weak Amelia would have our head for a failure this bad."
"You're thinking about Amelia, I'm thinking about our big boss, imagine that."
"You're right. That's worse."
"Let's go find those girls. It's about time we get your favorite hat back." I told him in a stern voice.
"Why is your anger suddenly directed at me?"
"No reason. But if you fuck this up just remember." I motioned my arms as if they were around his neck. "Remember this?"
Akio gulped "That's not right."
I tapped him on his shoulder. "You make the final decision so don't be scared yet." before walking away like I didn't just threaten to put him in a death hold while he stared at me in disbelief.

Back 4 Blood Beta
It's not good. I don't recommend buying or playing this game. Avoid it. If you like it, you're actually wrong.
I'll be directly comparing Back 4 Blood to Left 4 Dead because it's the same development team (supposedly). I'm also in an especially unforgiving mood, so this will be an outwardly hostile discussion of this terrible product. If you think I'm just being overly negative and want the game to fail because I'm an asshole, well, yeah, I am, but this shoddy product deserves considerable ire and I won't be convinced otherwise.
Some publications and individuals are calling it good, a worthy successor to L4D. They're wrong. L4D was a charming, polished, streamlined game. B4B is passionless, janky, and complicated. It makes mistakes that L4D solved or cleverly avoided, and introduces critical issues that ruin the experience.
Game Feel
Shooting feels weak and unresponsive, slows your movement speed, and requires aim-down-sights to have any accuracy.
Basic movement is slow and plodding. Sprinting drains stamina almost instantly, and is barely faster
Melee attacks rapidly drains stamina and has dubious reach; shoving enemies provides almost no benefit unless you have a specific perk card.
Zombies (or Ridden, a terrible, thoughtless name for zombies) shumble at you like they're competing for the Jank Olympics. One zombie can drain your health bar in seconds through sheer jankitude.
Players will regularly be yeeted, and it will seem like you just experienced an unintended bug or glitch rather than a deliberate force.
You're constantly taking damage from random, unidentifiable sources.
In summary, the game feel of this particular game is woeful.
Characters and Monsters
I hate the player characters. Well, that's a lie. HG, the prepper guy, or whatever his name is, is the only one I don't hate. He doesn't say cringeworthy lines, and he has a definable personality beyond broad emotional traits or bog-standard tropes. Player animations are also jank
The Ridden, which I will reiterate are named terribly, are indistinguishable from each other, players, and the environment. The common zombies are of the same color and height as players, so you're gonna probably be shooting teammates a lot, especially when everyone's covered in blood effects. Special zombies are awfully designed, to the point that I have to complain about them for the rest of this section. They:
are unpredictable, in a bad way
have entirely too much health with easily missed weak points
do far too much damage from unreasonable distances
move faster than the player's default speed, and can charge for extended distances
often appear in multiples and crowd chokepoints
The Hocker operates like the Smoker from L4D, but can lock down multiple players at once, chunk your health from great distances, and repeatedly jump from vantage point to vantage point at random. Its name is also stupid.
The Snitcher calls more zombies if you shoot it, which isn't obvious at all until you end up shooting it and call more zombies. It's also a key mistake that the developers of L4D avoided through rigorous playtesting, which allowed them to see that a similarly designed enemy was completely unfair, resulting in it being cut from the final release. Its name is also stupid.
The big fat guy can douse you in health-draining bile from 50 meters away, is difficult to kill, and has a variant that charge you and explode. This like they took the Boomer and made it worse in uniquely awful ways, just to see if they could. I don't remember the name, but its probably stupid.
The big arm guy can thwack you for 50% of your health bar, pin you in place, is also difficult to kill, and has a variant that is even more difficult to kill. I don't remember his name either, bu its definitely stupid.
The final one I can remember is the one that sits in a flesh pod and ambushes a player that gets too close, pinning them exactly like the Hunter would. The flesh pod blends into the environment in an especially egregious way, and the enemy itself looks stupid. Its names is also probably stupid.
Difficulty
I've cut my teeth on L4D and other coop shooters. I've beaten all the official campaigns on Expert. This game is stupid hard and unforgiving to such a degree that I fully believe that the developers do not understand at all what made L4D fun.
As players lose health, they also accrue trauma, which reduces maximum HP, potentially down to 40 HP. This cannot be recovered, even after respawning at a safe room or midround, unless you find a special medicine locker, which costs copper to use.
Levels are far too long, and there is never, ever any room to breathe. Players are constantly assaulted by zombies from all angles with no sense of rhythm or dramatic tension.
Levels also have no flow. Players will feel as though they are randomly wandering with no sense that they are being led in a particular direction. In L4D, the player characters would constantly be making observations about the environment (i.e. "Up that ladder!" or "We can use X to get across"). While L4D used tooltips to point out important objects, B4B relies entirely upon them.
Players have an elaborate inventory and currency system that is confusing and unreliable. Instead of providing healing and ammo at the start of each level, players have to buy it with copper. Like, literal in-game microtransactions. Each player has a unique wallet, though any copper picked up is given to all players equally. The copper system is an unnecessary addition that serves to slow down the start of a round.
Players can hold one offensive, healing, and support item. Medkits are not given a specific item slot, but instead compete with bandages and pills for inventory space. Guns and melee weapons also have tiers and ranks that are ill-defined. I have an extensive list of gripes I could go on about with this system, but I'll list some key issues:
There are too many items of each type, and they are too plentiful in the environment to be worth spending copper on
Ammo is broken into 4 types, which can leave you with lots of ammo for a weapon type you aren't using and no ammo for the gun you're actually using
Weapon attachments and ammo upgrades do nothing but provide confusion and force you to stop and stare at a stat screen to understand what it is you're adding to your gun. You also can't transfer them between guns, so you'll eventually have to swap a lower-tier gun with great attachments for a higher-tier gun with no attachments
Some offensive items do not behave in the way you expect them to, or provide so little value that they aren't worth using
Bandages and medkits operate identically, offering no interesting decision-making opportunities
The efficacy of healing items in general is needlessly reduced by players being able to heal by killing enemies, as well as trauma reducing max HP to the point that they don't provide any value
The Legacy of Left 4 Dead
Left 4 Dead provided a tightly packaged experience that nearly anyone could pick up on, and has a satisfying core loop that kept me coming back for years in spite of its many obvious glaring flaws. It was not bogged down by unnecessary progression systems or overly complex mechanics.
Since Valve allowed the series to shrivel and die, there has been no refinement of the mechanics that give L4D its magic, only inferior imitations that do not understand why things were they way they were.
Warhammer: Vermintide fails by being too complex, with vast differences between player characters, and an awful gear system that locks players out of higher difficulties with an arbitrary power system and random lootboxes
PAYDAY has zero polish, an unfathomably dull progression system, uninspired characters, awful artificial difficulty, and generally wastes the player's time with crushing amounts of busy work and waiting around
Back 4 Blood could have been great, but it completely misses the point. I'm going to try and play more of it while the beta is open, since I'm a miserable masochist, but also because some small part of me still wants to like it.
I'm sorry that this was so long and uncoordinated. I also apologize if you do enjoy the game. I just hope that I was able to provide a unique perspective of some small value to someone.
Thanks for reading. Sorry there's no interesting art to look at. I only put that comically small cover image there because it made me feel slightly better.

House Isekai: A Realm Reborn - Part 2, Through the Maelstrom (3 of 3)
House Isekai ARR Masterlist Here
—
Client: Hilda Valentin Goneril
Refusing to work with the newly reformed House Isekai due to Class VII, Duvalie takes her orders and storms off to Goneril territory, trying to get home faster. Not wanting to leave Duvalie completely alone, Raelyn and Fireteam Alpha-Nine accompany her.
Reports indicate of a giant serpent-like beast terrorizing the ocean trade routes near Goneril territory, and an unknown entity accompanying it…
--
[Respite and Sunlight - Fire Emblem: Three Houses OST]
The carriage carried a group of knights as it made its way towards the fishing town.
As the horses leisurely drew the carriage forth, the dirt kicking up on the path, the driver turned his head and shouted out.
(Driver) "We're almost there, milady."
Hilda sighed as she stretched, putting her head back onto the carriage.
(Hilda) "Finally. That took forever."
She looked around and noticed the two knights accompanying her were calmly sitting still, not saying a word.
(Hilda) "Am I seriously the only one who noticed?!"
(Knight 1) "No milady, we feel the same. Now isn't the time to be lax, however."
(Hilda) "Percy, I remember you being the one telling me that this town wasn't anything to be concerned about!"
(Knight 2) "It was, until that letter came in. We only put the request out three days ago, how could mercenaries possibly have responded that fast? And I do not like the descriptions of them either..."
(Percy) "I agree with Jonas. Tech that looks too advanced for random mercenaries to have? This seems like it's a trap..."
(Hilda) "I sincerely doubt the Separatists would cause any trouble for the Alliance. And what strategic importance would a fishing town like this have?"
(Jonas) "I think that's all the more reason to be wary, milady. Besides, orders from Lord Holst were specifically to-"
(Hilda) "Yeah yeah, I know, make sure I'm safe and everything. It's when we get out to the ocean, you guys can start doing your jobs properly."
Jonas looked at Percy, in which his response was just a shrug.
(Percy) "Hmph. I wonder what those mercenaries are like..."
...
Duvalie woke up and quickly looked around before her shoulders relaxed. They were still inside the building the Class VII members led them to.
Duvalie noticed the ODST's were already awake.
Dutch was near the window, looking at the small blue device curiously.
(Dutch) "Hell is this thing?"
It was making a small static noise, Dutch poked at it until Mickey came close and examined it himself.
(Mickey) "Looks like a jamming device of some kind."
(Buck) "Yeah, it's messing with my helmet's visor a little. You think a fishing town like this would have something that'd warrant a jammer?"
(Romeo) "Oh, you're finally awake."
The ODST's turned to Duvalie who picked up her sword and shield.
(Duvalie) "No one bothered to wake me up?"
(Mickey) "Hey, Fie's orders. Not ours."
Duvalie rolled her eyes and noticed Raelyn and Class VII were gone.
(Buck) "They said they were going out to patrol the area, wanted us to stay in here in case someone tried snooping around."
(Duvalie) "Guess that's fair enough."
Duvalie stood next to Buck, both of them not saying a word while Romeo cleaned his sniper and Mickey and Dutch were still examining the supposed jammer.
(Buck) "So...what exactly is your problem with those kids? If you don't mind me asking."
(Duvalie) "Ugh, we were enemies during a war, then we fought alongside each other and thats IT. Don't wanna talk about it. And we're NOT friends."
(Buck) "Alright, I believe ya. Dunno why you have to say it so forcefully."
(Duvalie) "Because it doesn't go through THEIR thick skulls! I DON'T LIKE REAN EITHER!"
(Buck) "Listen, Duvalie. I am right next to you. Stop frickin' screaming."
(Dutch) "Plus, you're making it harder to figure out what this is."
Duvalie and Buck turned to Mickey and Dutch who were still staring.
(Duvalie) "What in the hell is so fascinating about it that you two are still looking at it?!"
(Mickey) "Because, I don't think it's just a jammer. It's something else..."
That caught everyone's attention.
(Romeo) "...What makes you say that?"
(Dutch) "It's making some static noise, and it's sticky too. What kind of jammer is this small?"
(Duvalie) "Huh. I don't think we had anything like that in our world, so where did those brats...?"
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK!
(Raelyn's voice) "We have returned."
The door opened with the members of Class VII and Raelyn.
(Fie) "Coast looks clear, and looks like we already got someone to help out with the Serpent problem."
(Buck) "Damn, that was fast."
(Raelyn) "I recommend we hurry, lest we make the townsfolk angry again."
Everyone grabbed their equipment and left the house, Class VII leading the way.
(Mickey) "Hey, so those blue things you put in the house, what exactly are those?"
(Laura) "It's best we not say just yet."
(Dutch) "That's...reassuring."
(Elliot) "Anyways, we visited the tavern from yesterday and he said someone wants to see us there."
(Fie) "And you can leave your weapons down, it won't be a fight."
(Duvalie) "What makes you say that?"
As they were walking to the tavern, Hilda and her two knights exited and saw them.
[Musica Universalis - Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers OST]
(Hilda) "Oh my gosh!"
(Elliot) "Ha, aren't you a sight for sore eyes?"
(Laura) "It's been quite a bit hasn't it, Hilda?"
(Fie) "Yo."
Hilda smiled as she ran up and grabbed all three of them into a hug.
(Hilda) "It's so good to see you guys again!"
(Percy) "Hey...you were with the professor when you came to Derdriu all those years back!"
(Jonas) "Don't think we've seen their friends though."
Hilda noticed the new group behind Class VII and raised an eyebrow.
(Hilda) "These your friends?"
(Raelyn) "Raelyn Amuto, at your service."
(Duvalie) "...Duvalie."
(Buck) "Call me Buck. Squad behind me is Mickey, Dutch, and Romeo."
(Elliot) "Hopefully, we just got here super recently ourselves. Though, Rean and the others can watch over them."
(Hilda) "Wait, everyone else is here?"
(Raelyn) "Not exactly."
Raelyn quickly caught Hilda and her knights up to speed.
(Hilda) "I see...So it's happening again?"
(Laura) "That's what we're here to investigate. Originally we came here to see what was blocking communications from Sitri to us, and find out what teleported this group here."
(Elliot) "After a day of investigating, we think it may actually have to do with the serpent problem you're having."
(Buck) "Huh, isn't that convenient."
(Duvalie) "When exactly did this problem pop up anyway? We only got here three days ago."
(Hilda) "Hm...I think it was about a week ago. Same time Claude let us know something was coming from the Tower, actually."
(Romeo) "...Too convenient."
[Briefing Time - Trails of Cold Steel 3 OST]
(Raelyn) "It seems to line up with our arrival. Has there been anything in the past House Isekai and your Houses have fought that can cause this amount of trouble?"
(Hilda) "Too much to count..."
(Laura) "It wouldn't be the first time for us."
(Fie) "I think we can kill two birds with one stone here then. We can investigate that Serpent and determine if it has anything to do with our problems."
(Hilda) "Sounds good to me."
(Dutch) "So...how exactly are we going to fight a giant water monster? Our gear isn't equipped for aquatic fights."
(Percy) "We have that taken care of. We're going to use a boat and investigate it the old fashioned way."
(Duvalie) "...That is the worst idea I've ever heard."
(Buck) "Inclined to agree with the lady. That seems a good way for our asses to get eaten out there."
(Elliot) "I'm kinda drawing a blank on what else to do. It's not like they have any high tech boats."
(Jonas) "Unfortunately, he's right. All of our efforts on expanding our sea travel has been fruitless, or its too early to tell. It only has been two years before we began these projects."
(Raelyn) "Us Space Marines are engineered to breathe underwater."
(Romeo) "Damn, is there anything you guys can't do?"
(Raelyn) "Have good luck."
(Duvalie) "Was that a joke?"
Raelyn's head slowly turned to Duvalie.
(Raelyn) "It is the last thing I would joke about. You all being near me already carries a risk of a violent death, including myself."
(Dutch) "What, your gun malfunction on you in battle a lot or something?"
(Raelyn) "It is a curse our Chapter seems to suffer. For one reason or another, something unfortunate happens, and I guarantee you it will happen when we attempt to hunt this beast."
(Hilda) "Jeez, quit that downer talk, we'll be fine! We've survived plenty worse than just some monster. Heck, it's not even our first monster we've fought!"
(Laura) "If that is the case, where is this boat?"
(Percy) "This way."
Percy and Jonas led the way to the docks, everyone following them.
Fie looked behind them and saw a small boy and girl staring at them. Specifically Raelyn.
She noticed an older girl walk up to them, she couldn't be older than 15. Fie put a mental pin on them and quickly followed along.
The older girl knelt down to get on their eye level.
(Older girl) "Hey, why are you staring at them so intensely, they didn't say something to you, did they?"
(Young girl) "Nuh uh, Mila! The big yellow man was super nice!"
(Young boy) "Yeah, he helped her out and everything!"
Mila had short brown hair and a small stature, carrying two daggers on her back.
(Mila) "Did he now...?"
...
The group took an Alliance controlled ship out into the coast, being helmed by the local garrison.
They set out to the last known location to where this Serpent had been reported, which fortunately was only an hour away from the town.
The day was bright and the winds were strong, and not a cloud in sight.
They skipped across the waters with relatively little trouble.
Hilda stood next to Class VII while everyone else was scattered.
(Elliot) "Man, I can't remember the last time we've been out by the sea."
(Laura) "A shame it wasn't for a more pleasant reason."
(Fie) "Oh, hey Buck."
Buck walked up to Hilda, followed by Raelyn and Duvalie.
(Buck) "Mind if we ask you something, miss Hilda?"
(Hilda) "What's up?"
(Buck) "Who exactly are these Separatists your townsfolk are so quick to anger about? An insurrection?"
(Laura) "I remember hearing about it while we were investigating the area as well."
Hilda frowned and looked back out to the sea.
(Hilda) "After House Isekai left Fodlan, our three nations decided to form a temporary pact in order to fix the damages done by Those Who Slither and the Church. It...hasn't been easy.
For the first two years, the Empire and Kingdom were at war, until it suddenly stopped with the Church to be the ones on the offensive.
The Battle of Gronder had all our blood shed, and its nothing that everyone can easily forgive with how recent it was.
So when news that we'd all be fighting as one, it made our citizens outraged. The only people who knew the truth about Zanado and Byleth was our militaries..."
(Elliot) "So, these Separatists...-"
(Hilda) "They've been wanting us to split up and leave each other be, just like it's always been. The Alliance has a mixture of Imperial and Kingdom Separatists, and Claude has been doing his best to keep the neutrality. It hasn't been easy, in addition to the Zanado Tower acting up again."
(Raelyn) "Which is why you sent this letter of the Serpent to Garreg Mach, correct?"
Hilda nodded.
(Hilda) "And if it requires House Isekai's help again, I fear the worst..."
(Laura) "Rest assured, we will do everything in our power to help Fodlan."
(Buck) "Not sure how long we'll be staying but, might as well. It's either that or be stuck here."
(Duvalie) "Wait a second, if you guys were stuck here before and got out, then how did you get in?"
(Fie) "Teleportation with the help of the Doom Slayer."
(Hilda) "Wait, he was the one that set you guys up with that?!"
(Raelyn) "I am not sure who he is, but perhaps he can teleport us out of here."
(Buck) "With how troublesome everything sounds, I sort of doubt it'd be that easy to get out of here."
(Fie) "Only one way to try."
Fie reached out a small crest of House Isekai's logo and pressed the center.
...Nothing happened.
(Fie) "Uh oh."
(Duvalie) "W-What does that mean?"
(Elliot) "Huh? That's how we were able to teleport from our world to the base! Why isn't it working?"
(Hilda) "Does that mean you're stuck here too?"
(Buck) "Well, that's fantastic..."
Dutch, Mickey, and Romeo were listening into the conversation.
(Dutch) "They got Insurrectionists to deal with too?"
(Romeo) "Great, that means we'll be here even longer."
(Mickey) "Their teleportation isn't working, so what is the cause of-"
(Percy) "Hey, we need everyone up here!"
[Dark Clouds Gather - Fire Emblem: Three Houses OST]
The groups looked up and went to the top deck where the wheel was. Percy and Jonas stood near the captain.
(Hilda) "What's the problem?"
(Jonas) "The skies in front of us are suddenly starting to darken."
(Captain) "The weather the way it was, this was too fast for it to suddenly darken! Something's about to happen!"
(Buck) "...Motion tracker's picking up something!"
The ODST's turned on their visors, blocking out their faces while Raelyn silently looked at his tactical display.
(Raelyn) "I am detecting something as well."
(Romeo) "Hey, remember that conversation about your luck from earlier? Suddenly beginning to believe it..."
Everyone drew their weapons as the crew of the ship shouted, readying cannons and bows.
Hilda drew out her relic axe and looked in the water.
(Hilda) "Where exactly are you sensing this thing?"
The ODST's had their weapons drawn, slowly looking to their left. The movement was quickly circling around them.
(Elliot) "U-Um, how big is this Serpent, exactly?"
(Percy) "Not sure, reports are inconsistent."
(Raelyn) "If it is as big as we expect it to be, what's stopping it from tearing this boat in half?"
Raelyn readied his Bolter and quickly turned around to the back of the ship, finally seeing a shadow.
(Buck) "ON OUR SIX!"
Only the ODST's and Raelyn turned to the back at first.
It took everyone else a second to realize what Buck meant, turning around and facing the same direction.
[Wreck to the Seaman - Final Fantasy XIV OST]
The shadow quickly vanished underneath the ship, making everyone nervous of what its about to do.
The ODST's and Raelyn paid attention to their motion tracker, and realized it was suddenly in place.
(Romeo) "Why the hell's it stopping?"
(Raelyn) ...!!! "It's not! CAPTAIN, TURN YOUR SHIP TO THE RIGHT, NOW!"
The captain quickly got on the wheel and steered right, the wind forcing the ship to make a hard right.
From the waters emerged a massive serpent, the water splashing onto the ship and blowing back some of the crew members.
The waves rocked the ship violently, almost tipping it over.
(Elliot) "AGH!"
Elliot lost his footing and was about to go overboard before Dutch grabbed his arm.
(Dutch) "Hang on kid!"
The ship barely managed to balance itself, throwing itself back with a force that made everyone lose footing again.
Duvalie was the first to stabilize herself when she realized the serpent was staring at them.
As the serpent opened its mouth, it was about to strike before Duvalie leapt forward and hit its face with her shield, making it stagger back and roar in anger.
Duvalie used the force of her attack to launch herself back onto the ship, twirling her sword.
(Duvalie) "Little help?!"
(Percy) "FIRE THE CANNONS!"
Crew mates rushed to the cannons and lit the matches.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The cannons opened fire, most of them missing their mark while only one managed to hit the torso of the beast.
Raelyn and the ODSTs rushed to the side and held the triggers of their guns, the bullets rushing towards the head.
The serpent dove underwater to dodge the gunfire.
(Crew) "IT'S COMING AROUND THE OTHER SIDE!"
Its head emerged from the water on the opposite side of the ship, its head about to strike into the heart of the ship before Laura ran to the middle and swung her sword upwards, the blow knocking it away.
Fie used her gunblades to fire at its head as well, but the bullets deflected off the scales and it dove back underwater, this time no one being able to see where it went.
(Buck) "Dutch, Mickey! Heavy weapons, NOW! Romeo, crow's nest and snipe that son of a bitch!"
The ODST's nodded and quickly did as they were told, Raelyn going to Duvalie with his Bolter still raised.
(Duvalie) "Hey, Amuto, got any ideas?"
(Raelyn) "One, but with my luck-"
(Duvalie) "Grr, SHUT UP ABOUT YOUR BAD LUCK! It's either that, or we let the ship get torn in half!"
(Raelyn) "If that is the case, please hold onto this."
(Duvalie) "...Wha-"
Raelyn put his bolter into Duvalie's arm, almost making her tip over from the weight.
(Duvalie) "HUARGH!? H-HEY...W-WHAT TH HELL?!"
(Raelyn) "I will be right back."
Raelyn pulled out a knife and looked over to the side.
(Hilda) "H-Hey, what's the yellow guy doing?!"
(Elliot) "Huh?"
Elliot, Fie and Laura turned around and saw Raelyn peeking over the edge.
(Fie) "What is he...?"
(Laura) ?! "WAIT, ARE YOU GOING TO?!-"
(Raelyn) "BROTHERS, SISTERS! PREPARE FOR ITS RESURFACING!"
[Through the Maelstrom - Final Fantasy XIV OST]
Raelyn hopped over the ship's edge and dove straight into the water.
He quickly looked around, and noticing a shadow emerging from the depths as it was rushing upwards at him.
He did everything in his power to swim away from the ship and-
(Buck) "The hell is he-"
Everyone saw Raelyn shoot upwards as the Serpent's mouth grabbed him, the Space Marine now in its teeth.
Although it tried to devour him, the armor's weight and size made it extremely difficult to do so.
(Elliot) "OH AIDIOS!"
(Percy) "Is he insane?!"
(Romeo) "QUIT STARING AND FIRE DAMN IT!"
Romeo cocked his sniper's handle back and pulled the trigger, the shot ringing out across the air as the bullet attempted to hit the wildly flailing serpent.
Raelyn was being thrashed around, the teeth unable to go through his armor. He swung his knife into the beast several times to no effect despite it piercing the scales.
(Raelyn) "INCOMING!"
Having no option, he grabbed the beast's upper jaw and slammed his fist onto it, the force of the blow knocking the beast's head onto the ship.
The ship almost submerged itself into the water from the sheer weight of the serpent's head.
Everyone managed to keep their footing, letting Duvalie, Hilda, and Laura strike fast.
Duvalie dropped the Bolter and let it slide onto the floor as she stuck her sword into the teeth, breaking a few off and letting Raelyn awkwardly roll out of it's grasp.
Hilda smashed it's skull with her axe overhead, Laura swinging her sword sideways to strike at its mouth.
It recoiled back in pain, tipping the ship over again.
Raelyn was about to get on his feet before the cannons from the right side slid over and hit him back into the water.
(Hilda) "Wow, he wasn't kidding!"
The Bolter slid over into the water and landed near Raelyn, which he quickly grabbed and looked for the serpent again.
It was coming through the other side, but it was only now he realized how huge it was.
The tail was coming near him, and he rushed over to grab it as the tail violently dragged him along the water.
Dutch grabbed a Spartan Laser while Mickey had a rocket launcher, both of them checking their motion trackers.
(Buck) "Right side!"
Romeo reloaded his sniper and quickly spun around, being the first one to see the serpent emerge and fly towards the boat.
(Romeo) "It's gonna ram us!"
(Dutch) "Like hell it is!"
Dutch's Spartan Laser began to form a red line as it whirred up making a high pitched activation noise.
Mickey fired first, the rockets flying off and trying to lock onto the serpent. They went into the water as it nimbly swerved to the left and right, the waters catching the explosion.
Raelyn held on as the water's currents fought against him, using one hand at a time to climb up the serpent until he got near the eyes.
The pupil looked directly at Raelyn and widened, realizing he was there.
Raelyn's hand with the knife stabbed directly into the eye, making the serpent thrust upwards into the air, roaring and shaking into the air.
(Dutch) "GOTCHA!"
With another second passing, the Spartan Laser shot out a force even stronger than the cannon, a burning red beam of death searing through the Serpent's skin, making it drop into the water dead.
(Buck) "Good work, gentlemen."
(Elliot) "Whew, is everyone okay?"
(Percy) "Check on the equipment and for any wounded!"
(Jonas) "Captain, get us closer to the body we need to-"
Jonas stopped midsentence when he looked up.
Percy noticed it and turned around, seeing what he was staring at.
[Blinding Indigo - Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers OST]
"An assassin from our homeland? Or a foolish trespasser upon these waters?"
(Jonas) "What in the hell?!"
(Percy) "SOMETHING'S UP HERE!"
(Buck) "OPEN FIRE!"
Fie and Buck pointed their guns and pulled the triggers, the bullets passing through the aquatic creature's body, letting them drop onto the floor, water splashing from the impact.
"Very well. Then Her power shall crush the miscreant that dares pollute these waters."
The creature began glowing, making the clouds above them start pouring rain and the water glow as well.
The Serpent Raelyn was still attached to started glowing a pale blue, the wound quickly regenerating. He was quick to aim his bolter and open fire on it, but had no effect.
Hilda and Laura ran up to it with their weapons swinging overhead, it quickly teleporting away as it vacantly stared at them.
Elliot was about to cast a spell with his staff until he realized the rain was forming puddles on the ship, slowly bubbling.
(Elliot) "Uh, guys?!"
Birds made of water emerged from the puddles and flew at Elliot, the force of the impact making him fall onto the floor.
Romeo immediately turned his attention to the bird and pulled the trigger.
The bird exploded into water, it calmly splashing down onto the ship.
Hearing something behind him, he reached for his pistol and spun around, pulling the trigger.
The bird exploded, and it was then he realized a puddle was beneath him.
From the puddle emerged a wolf-like creature that leapt up, knocking Romeo off the tower.
Before he could land, Duvalie caught him and set him down to the floor and raising her shield as the wolf leapt on top of her.
Its teeth was made of water as well, but Duvalie didn't want to find out if it hurt just as bad as a real wolf, so she plunged her sword into its body making it explode.
Mickey switched to an SMG and opened fire on the other puddles before anything else could show up, Buck and Fie joining in while Hilda, Laura, Jonas, and Percy fought other wolves.
Dutch was about to switch weapons before hearing the water explode behind him.
The Serpent was glowing the same blue as the winged creature, Raelyn still on top of it, stabbing it with his knife.
(Dutch) "Oh for the love of-"
He aimed his Spartan Laser at the Serpent again, only for the shot to be taken and hitting birds that flew in the way.
Elliot rushed over and healed Romeo of any injuries, making him push away the staff.
(Romeo) "Stop healing me and get to killing these things!"
Romeo reloaded his pistol while Duvalie dispatched of another wolf that was trying to attack from behind.
(Duvalie) "They just keep coming!"
Meanwhile, Raelyn lost count of how many times he stabbed the head of this beast, it would not stop moving.
It tried ferociously to be rid of Raelyn, eventually dunking its head back underwater and using the tail to swipe him off.
Raelyn flipped several times underwater, trying to steady himself as the Serpent bit Raelyn again, this time half his body inside it's mouth.
He said nothing as he remained calm, putting his bolter into the mouth before he was thrown out of the water and into the air.
Raelyn broke through the top deck and landed onto the bottom, creating a massive hole on the top part of the ship.
The Serpent's tail slammed onto the side of the ship as it wrapped its head around to the front deck of the ship.
Dutch aimed the laser at the head, until realizing it was too close to the ship.
(Dutch) "Damn it, I'd just rip this ship apart if I took the shot!"
Fie hopped onto the Serpent's back with both her gunblades anchoring her onto it, making it twitch only a little.
She pulled the triggers several times as the bullets went into its body.
It loosened up its grip on the ship, Laura using her sword to chop off part of the tail, making it roll over and tripping some of the crew and water-formed creatures.
Buck picked off one target after the other, struggling to reload.
A wolf jumped onto him, the teeth scraping against his helmet's visor as he grabbed his knife and plunged it straight into its neck, making it disappear.
As he got up, he noticed that the winged creature only staring at them.
(Buck) "The hell is this thing?!"
Elliot tried to heal any injured crew member he could while Hilda, Percy, and Jonas covered him.
Slamming his spear into a wolf, Jonas turned to HIlda.
(Jonas) "What do we do?! There are too many of them!"
The ship slowly began to crack loudly as the serpent's grip refused to let go.
(Captain) "At this rate, the ship is going break!"
(Percy) "Wait, wheres your yellow friend?!"
(Duvalie) "Think we saw him make a hole into the lower decks!"
(Dutch) "Then what is he-"
Cannons fired onto the serpent's side that was directly next to the ports, before an entire cannon was thrown out, a rope attached to it making the serpent drop from the weight.
It finally loosened its grip and struggled to get the attached cannons off of it.
(Raelyn) "The rope will not hold, TAKE THE SHOT BROTHER DUTCH!"
(Dutch) "GOTCHA!"
Dutch grabbed his Spartan Laser and charged it, aiming at the head.
Multiple puddles formed around Dutch before the others rushed to it and stuck their weapons inside.
As several birds were about to fly into the shot again, Raelyn emerged from the lower decks and opened fire with the bolter, the shots thundering out and completely shattering them into droplets.
Dutch's Spartan Laser kicked back as the beam hit his target, its head being completely blown off, making the serpent's body go limp and dissolve into the water.
The winged creature suddenly stopped glowing, making the ODST's spin around and open fire, the bullets going into the creature.
Hilda, Fie, Laura, and Duvalie swung their weapons at it, the streaks of their weapons severing it.
Elliot's staff formed into a violin-like shape as he casted a spell that formed a circle of light, blasting upwards and making the creature finally dissipate into the air.
[End Song]
The weather finally began to clear above them, everyone now trying to catch their breath.
(Dutch) "Lord, can you please get us out of this ocean now?"
The ship began to making an uncomfortably loud screeching noise before crewmates were on it, trying to fix the damages.
(Dutch) "...So was that a yes or no?"
An explosion occured where the serpent's body was, a mixture of the rain and saltwater pouring down onto them. A tiny rainbow formed from the storm in sight of the direction back to the town.
(Dutch) "...Amen."
(Fie) "Ugh, finally."
(Elliot) "That wasn't like anything we fought before..."
(Hilda) "Whew...to be fair, don't think we ever had to fight in the ocean."
(Duvalie) "So, do any of us have an idea of-AAAAAGH!"
Duvalie suddenly fell to one knee, grabbing her head.
(Buck) "H-Hey, what's-URGH!"
Buck quickly followed suit, then the ODST's fell to one knee as well, mimicking her action.
The members of Class VII and Raelyn were soon to follow, their heads pounding as their vision suddenly faded to white.
...
...
It was an empty lake with a strange platform in the middle, the sun was bright and the skies only had a few clouds.
And going towards that platform was a blonde-braided man and a small floating companion.
(Paimon) "Hm...Is it a good idea to mess with this?"
(Aether) "It's where the villagers told us that this...thing was, so it's not going to get rid of itself.
(Paimon) "Yeah, but still-"
Before they could continue their conversation, they heard something appear behind them.
It was a small floating creature with a staff, laughing maniacally.
(Aether) "Damn it, why now?"
Aether's sword materialized into his hand and was about to swing before a bright light appeared in front of them, catching the both of them off guard.
(Abyss Mage) "Eh?"
(Aether) "What the?-"
The bright light made the both of them step back, Aether accidentally triggering the platform, and the weather suddenly clouded up.
(Paimon) "Uh oh!"
(Aether) "Damn, now we have to deal with this-"
Before he could finish, the bright light exploded and made the air push them back, before slowly pulling them in.
The Abyss Mage and whatever was summoned with the platform was sucked into the light.
Aether and Paimon came dangerously close to before he shot a powerful gust of wind out of his hand, making him fly further back as the light quickly disappeared.
The weather returned to normal as he got up trying to catch his breath.
(Paimon) "What the heck was that?!"
(Aether) "I...I have no idea..."
Everything started to turn into a static mess as Aether and Paimon slowly faded out of view...
...
(Hilda's voice) "Hey...HEY!"
Everyone's vision returned to them as they looked around confused.
(Percy) "What was that about?"
(Buck) "Alright...we all saw that too right?"
(Duvalie) "Agh...you mean that lake platform thing...?"
(Laura) "I...saw it too!"
(Raelyn) "As did I...None of us possess any psychic abilities I am unaware of, correct?"
(Mickey) "If I had the ability do that crap, I would've in that fight!"
(Hilda) "What are you guys talking about?!"
Everyone turned to Hilda and her knights. It seemed they were unaffected.
(Fie) "You...didn't see that?"
(Hilda) "No, you guys just all reached for your head at the same time!"
They all looked at each other now.
(Elliot) "Was that some kind of dream?"
(Dutch) "Looked more like a memory to me."
(Romeo) "Memory of what? Who the hell were they? And what was that winged bastard we were just fighting having to do with that?"
(Jonas) "Captain, take us back to port."
(Captain) "No need to tell me again. RAISE THE SAILS, LET'S GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE!"
Everyone slowly rose up, with Raelyn helping Duvalie up.
They all remained quiet on the ride back.
An hour passed as they finally reached the shore, reaching for their heads.
(Laura) "If we go to another ocean, it will be too soon..."
(Fie) "Let's go head back to the building and-..."
Fie frowned as her ARCUS unit was now beeping.
(Fie) "...Someone's been inside."
They all reached for their weapons and slowly approached it, including the door.
Percy and Jonas quickly scattered the townsfolk, Hilda drawing her axe and joining them.
The ODST's went near the door and silently held up their weapons, turning to the others and nodding.
Duvalie raised her shield and was the first one in, kicking down the door and drawing her sword.
(Duvalie) "WHO THE HELL ARE YOU?!"
(Mila) "AAAAAGH!"
The young girl fell backwards, completely terrified of all the weapons suddenly pointing at her.
Romeo and Raelyn looked around the room to make sure no one else was present.
(Fie) "Hey...you're that girl who was talking to those kids."
(Mila) "I-I'M SORRY! I DIDN'T MEAN TO MAKE YOU ANGRY! I WAS JUST CURIOUS!"'
Fie turned to the blue devices she stuck on the walls and back to the girl.
(Mila) "U-Uh, I was just wanting to talk to the big yellow guy!"
Everyone turned to Raelyn, who looked back at the girl.
(Raelyn) "...What is it?"
(Mila) "I-I was just wanting to thank you for helping those kids? From yesterday?"
(Raelyn) "...Ah. I do not believe she means us harm."
Everyone slowly put away their weapons while Raelyn took off his helmet and knelt down.
(Raelyn) "Why did you break in here?"
(Mila) "The door was open, promise! At first I checked to see if you were home and...well, then I got curious."
(Elliot) "You could've gotten hurt! You're lucky it was just us, I don't think other mercenaries would be nice enough to let you go unscathed!"
Mila was about to say something before noticing Hilda.
(Mila) "M-MILADY!"
She quickly scrambled to get on one knee before Hilda sighed.
(Hilda) "Hey, come on kiddo. Get up, no need for that around me."
(Mila) "Are...are you guys just mercenaries?"
Raelyn cleared his throat to catch her attention.
(Raelyn) "Yes, we are. Do not mistake our intentions, we were just for the coin. But...give the children my regards. My name is Raelyn. Yours?"
(Mila) "M...Mila."
Raelyn nodded.
(Raelyn) "Then I will see you home. Everyone else we should prepare to get moving."
(Buck) "Right. Pack it up ladies, let's get ready to move."
(Dutch) "On it."
Mickey and Romeo nodded and checked around the house for leftover equipment.
Duvalie shrugged and stood in the corner with the members of Class VII. Hilda stayed with them as Raelyn walked out with Mila.
Fie activated her ARCUS unit and checked the screen.
The blue devices started to beep rapidly, making everyone turn around to see what the noise was.
(Mickey) "So...now can we know what that is?"
(Fie) "Yup. First we just gotta get away. No evidence and all that."
(Mickey) "...Oh, that explains why it looked familliar."
(Duvalie) "Huh? W-What is it?"
(Buck) "...Are we safe-"
(Fie) "I gotta push the button first. We're fine. We put these here last night in case we had to leave early."
(Elliot) "We made sure this building was abandoned and out of the way of everyone."
(Hilda) "Uh...what are they talking about?"
(Laura) "We have our things, let us get moving."
...
Raelyn walked alongside the girl, his helmet underneath his arm.
(Raelyn) "Mila, do your parents know you like to snoop around like this?"
(Mila) "Hah...y-yeah. It wasn't for anything bad, I promise!"
(Raelyn) "Hmph. Those children, who are they to you? Siblings?"
(Mila) "Nah, they're orphans. From the war..."
(Raelyn) "War?"
(Mila) "You know...the Five-year war? The one with the Church and Empire?"
(Raelyn) "Ah. My apologies, it seems I forgot."
(Mila) "Are you really mercenaries? Figured you would've remembered that at least."
(Raelyn) "...I am. My age is getting the better of me is all."
Mila raised an eyebrow at Raelyn's half assed excuse.
(Raelyn) "Regardless, you did not answer my question."
(Mila) "Oh, right. Well they were kids that were on the streets for a while. None of us really knew what to do, so I became friends with them! They ended up following me around everywhere for the past three years."
(Raelyn) "Then you have a good heart it seems. What are their names?"
(Mila) "The boy is Emil, and the girl is Lena."
(Raelyn) "Well then, take care of Emil and Lena. They are going to need you for the coming times."
(Mila) "Yeah..."
Raelyn stopped following when Mila approached a door, assuming it to be her house.
(Raelyn) "Take care then, Mila."
(Mila) "W-Wait, where will you guys go?"
(Raelyn) "I cannot say. Wherever the wind takes us I suppose."
(Mila) "Will...we see you again?"
Raelyn put on his helmet and turned to her.
(Raelyn) "If the Emperor wills it, then yes."
(Mila) "Emperor? Like, Emperor Edelgard?"
(Raelyn) "Er...different one."
KABOOM!
Raelyn turned to the source of the explosion, seeing his group semi-casually walking away from it.
(Mila) "What the?!"
(Raelyn) "Get inside. I will investigate."
Mila nodded and quickly went inside while Raelyn walked over to the group.
(Citizen) "Good goddess, the building collapsed on itself?!"
(Citizen 2) "No one was hurt, were they?"
(Citizen 3) "N-No, just-" cough cough "Some dust!"
(Fie) "Aaaand that's your answer to what they were."
(Duvalie) "Bombs?!"
(Laura) "We wanted to cover our tracks."
(Raelyn) "Would that not make them suspicious of us even more?"
(Elliot) "No more than they already were."
Buck's visor picked up signatures to their side, quietly watching them.
(Fie) "There's been people watching us ever since we arrived."
(Dutch) "Think it's those insurrectionists?"
(Hilda) "Too early to tell. We'll investigate things from our end."
(Mickey) "Well, good luck to ya then, ma'am."
Hilda nodded and went joined Percy and Jonas who were looking at the collapsed building.
(Buck) "Well then, mission accomplished on our end. Wonder how the other kids are doing."
(Duvalie) "More importantly, I want answers to whatever the hell's going on with this talk of separatists and that vision thing."
As they walked away from the town, Mila watched from the window.
(Mila) "Just who are you...?"
