I wasn't going to give my opinion on this but I actually think making Ripleys tragic backstory include Trent was great because it makes all those old c2 memes about how veth should've just pulled out her gun and shot him thematically relevant and that's all that matters to me honestly
#considered saying sorry about making everything about veth but 1. i get to be extra annoying when shes back tonight#2. you followed me what are you going to do next get mad dairy queens got to much ice cream?#tlovm spoilers#when you think about it its actually a really serious dilemma#on one hand veth deserves to do whatever she wants and win every fight on the other hand ripley deserves to never succeed ever

TOP 10 personal Favorite Manga.
Here's just a couple of manga that I love & just think are top-notch.
NUMBER: 1 : TOKYO GHOUL
A series that means a lot to me in many ways. When I first got into Tokyo Ghoul it was by the very first season of the anime during 2014 and upon hearing the opening theme of Unravel and seeing the first episode, I was hooked and went into the manga series right after. A nuanced morally compelling storytelling with an array of so many cool and great characters and narratives, incredible art progression from Ishida Sui, and overall just a satisfyingly great conclusion to boot.
NUMBER: 2 : J NO SUBETE
On the surface, looks like a regular BL series, but underneath an emotional-roller-coaster and pretty heavy story about a transwoman named J. Set in the 40s /50s, you fellow J childhood and the awful, rough bullshit she deals with in life as well as her love & massive admiration of Marilyn Monroe. Really such a good story that deals with some real heavy shit...but still so good.
NUMBER: 3 : MONSTER
Not only one of my favorite anime adaptations but also equally as wonderfully engaging & just as well done as a manga as well. Monster is such a captivating, intense story and truly one of my favorites from Urasawa's works. Following Dr. Tenma, a talented neurosurgeon who has grips with the moral dilemma of either saving the Mayor or saving a young boy who was shot in a murder. Tenma chose to save the boy instead and while it costs him being demoted he still believes he did the right thing. Unfortunately years later discovering the boy he saves...turns out to be a killer. This series is such a banger from its storytelling to the characters and just one of the best from Urasawa's.
NUMBER: 4 : GOODNIGHT PUNPUN
At first glance of this manga, you might think of it as something of a cute slice-of-life story about a cute cartoony bird. But actually when reading it...IT'S WAY MORE DARKER and GETS A LOT MORE FUCK UP! For real Goodnight Punpun is one of those series that's start-up pretty light-hearted and a little bit goofy with Punpun being a cartoony-drawn bird amongst very average-looking humans as a young kid in the first volumes of the series. But as things move forward within the story as Punpun gets older and his family situation gets more unstable as well as his life, the tone gets more depressing as a whole. Love the dark psychological storytelling, although it definitely the type of story you can only read once in awhile or in a good headspace because it definitely can be a hard read.
NUMBER: 5 : BERSERK
Seriously, what can I say about Berserk that already hasn't been said on some level. But this manga is seriously, I feel one of the most top iconic series within manga as well as one of the most engaging, moving, fantastic, epic storyline I've read thus far. I know the series itself is still ongoing, and I've been keeping up-to-date with this story since reading the very first chapter. Hearing about Kentaro Miura death....was tough, I knew he had serious health issues, which is why volumes would tend to go on pretty long hatiuses... but man. Another influential iconic figure in manga gone, Berserk is definitely a series any manga-lover or anime fan should read once in awhile.
NUMBER: 6 : SHOUWA GENROKU RAKUGO SHINJUU
Not only one of the most beautifully mature, well-written, compelling storytelling I've seen thus far in an anime series. But as a manga, even more so, a well-crafted story on the life and times of a sad, burden-ridden, slightly bitter, depressed, old man known as Yakumo Yurakutei, who is a highly skilled and experienced master of Rakugo, which for those who don't know is an traditional Japanese verbal form of entertainment. Think of it as something like a form of Improv done by only one person playing different characters to tell a story, This series has many layers to its storytelling that's is done so well dealing with Yakumo and those in his life that has impacted him as to the type of pained almost broken old man he is within the present time. Just a overall good & bittersweet but fantastic story that's deserves to be check out more.
NUMBER: 7 : INNOCENT
It is one of the most beautifully drawn manga series that I have read so far while also being equally gruesome as well. Innocent is a fictionalized historical manga set during 18th century France about the story and legacy of Charles Henri Sanson (actual real historical figure), who is the fourth generation of a family of Executioners known as the Sanson family who are the royal Executioners of Paris. The story follows Charles rough journey towards his path of becoming the Monsieur De Paris. This absolutely such a fantastic piece of work, both in terms of the visually amazing stunning artwork and along with the historical storytelling of Charles coming to terms with his hated lineage and becoming Executioner of Paris but also showcasing the societal/political chaotic changes and upheaval of France slowly leading up to the French revolution. Although some historical aspects are obviously fictionalized, but still such a good series.
NUMBER: 8 : THE PROMISED NEVERLAND
While my feelings on the anime are highly mixed due to really, really, really not caring for the way they handled parts of the storytelling from season 2 of the anime series. But the manga, on the other hand, is a totally different story. Seriously, reading this series was a blast and just an enjoyable experience from beginning to end, as well as seeing Emma and Ray also Norman grow & and develop throughout each arc was great to witness including seeing the rest of the kids thrive and survive the outside world. For this manga was a great read, and definitely, I'll say at least personally to me was done far better then the second season flimsy adaptation.
NUMBER: 9 : HOMUNCULUS
Truly an mindfuck of a manga in more ways than one. But still a pretty damned good and wild story, Homunculus is a story about a homeless man named Susumu Nakoshi who ends up meeting a seemingly antagonistic young medical student named Itoh Manabu to do a little experiment on him by drilling a actual hole in his skull for a total of 700,000 ¥en. Itoh, who is very fascinated with studying the human minds and amongst other things such as ghosts and the occult, but ultimately he thinks he can unlock the hidden psychic potential of Susumu brain. Nakoshi goes through the process, and at first, nothing seems to happen after going through the the operation. Until he closes his right eye and starts seeing otherworldly nightmarish monsters and shapes with his left eye when he looks at other people. This series is truly a weird but also such a highly intriguing and fascinating psychological read while at the same time being a bit of a downer, but still an excellent but messed-up good story.
NUMBER : 10 : ATELIER OF WITCH HAT
Okay, so I just recently started reading this manga series not that long ago, about a couple of weeks ago, and now I'm so freaking hooked. Atelier of Witch hat has truly captured my heart and mind with its engaging and creatively fascinating world-building involving witches and magic to the just as highly interesting characters and storytelling. Which centers around our young protagonist Coco ( the girl on the cover) who is this super adorably passionate girl who has such a huge love for all things magical /witches and deeply wishes she could become one as well, but unfortunately normal people or "outsiders" can't become witches, you have to be born into it, but that's doesn't stop Coco from trying her hardest to still wanting to be a witch. One of the things I love most about this world and how it handles dealing with magic and witches is that magic is really normal within this world and how witches tend to uses it to help and serve regular people in need or even for lighting up a cobblestone pathway also I really like how the magic system is structured in this series, such as instead of casting spells or any from of magic with words or a phrase, magic is casted by drawing, Coco here ends up in a pickle with accidentally casting magic that ends up turning her mom into stone & thus Coco journey towards witchood begins.
Seriously, even though I've just recently gotten into this manga & and its ongoing tale it's already has captivated me on so many levels and I just can't get enough of it so far wonderful storytelling and amazingly beautiful drawn artsy apart of it which really adds a lot of this series fantastical elements. Definitely a must to check out!!
Wanted to do a list of a couple of some of my most top favorite manga series and ones were I feel other's should give them a shot at checking out if there into any of these stories. (^ _ ^)

hi im putting all my asks in one post again. these are from like the past month and a half approx? some digimon thoughts some tmnt thoughts some art musings u know the usual
@waywardistics YAYY thank you so much for ordering! I'm glad it got to you & that you are enjoying it!
this is kind of a missive to everyone who ordered but: I am very nervous about pre-orders whenever I do them... nervous that not very many people will order, nervous that there will be supply chain or production dilemmas and I won't be able to get copies out to people in a timely fashion, nervous about having people's money but having an indeterminate amt of time where i have not yet "held up my part of the bargain" etc etc SO. THANK U GUYS...FOR ORDERING and being patient and im so glad it got to y'all
@seanonthemoon (idk why i cant tag u BUT) interesting... i gotta be honest I don't think abt the crests that much. i agree that they're very much like heres the "girl" crest heres the "nerd boy" crest etc to the point that it becomes almost meaningless. but i think what makes them even more meaningless to me, and is probably the reason they kind of designated girl/boy crests etc is that i think like the digivices they're toys and merchandise more than they are actual narrative tools LOL. I wouldve loved something with cody and mimi! theyre both so deeply empathetic and sensitive.. theres a lot they share but i think because they look so different on the surface it would make it difficult to market that merch...booo capitalism boooo toy marketing its all sexist bullshit at least here in the u.s. idk if japan is that different though.
I'm actually a little frustrated with how often 02 and 02 related media squanders cody in general lol. he feels like a parallel of izzy, joe, and TK(season 1 tk) while also being kind of none of those and suffering through lackluster characterization as a result... and then once ken joins the team it feels a little redundant. there's a couple cody-centric eps of 02 I remember really liking but then i think abt how he's been used since in like post-series content and 02:the beginning where they made him type on the computer even though obviously that's yoleis thing but because he had nothing else to do and aghh... my blood boils. i feel like the youngest but most serious anime achetype even at its bare bones is actually rly interesting idk why they don't play it up. UM. Once again my opinion is that he should be taller LOL and maybe they should play up his kendo martial arts honorable training stuff more idk. tallest + youngest + most serious just seems like a recipe for success for me. well. theres still time. and theres always fanfic.
THIS IS SO NICE TO SAY and not the first time someone has said it but i appreciate it everytime because i really admire the mm art style so much. It's like part of why I got really into the movie because I really recognized my own artistic sensibilities and aspirations in the way they stylized everything.
UM And i feel like since watching the movie and looking at all the concept art and making my own art i do feel like its only become more obvious how much my own art is lacking LOL LIKE when you see something that feels so similar I think the differences only become more stark. those artists are definitely on a different level than me. But it's nice to hear people say it doesn't look so different from their pov. thank u ^^
thank u!!!!!!! i love mundanity and naturalism... there's something so beautiful abt it to me lol... I feel like my anatomy needs work actually but ive been feeling better abt it this year so it's good to hear! thank you!
DLKGDSGDLALSNDF WAS IT TOO FAR..?? firstly, yeah I was thinking late teen/young adult ages for both of them ie 18-19ish, definitely not the age the kids are in the movie lol.
but also they arent DOING anything in that pic it is literally just a confrontation + some innuendo... I think teens should be allowed some less than subtle innuendo.. its like one of the top 3 classically teen pastimes...
this is such a funny ask to get because i feel like i haven't been able to do thin lineart until like. this past year or two maybe LOL. UM having a line-centric art job helped I think. I started on craig of the creek back in 2022 and thats a show where we spend a lot of time inking so I had a job where I was constantly moderating my line weight 40 hours a week every week for over a year. disappointingly, much of improvement is simply horrendous amounts of practice.
Here's a tip though: I think a lot of thin lineart boils down to confidence. I think instinctively we read thick, bold, fast lines as confident but theres actually a lot of obscuring you can do with a thick line. if you're not sure whether the nose on the face or a browline should be a little more left or a little more down you can hide that with a thick line and pretend its a shadow. or hide it with a bunch of quick lines and the eye can kind of approximate where looks best among the mass.. whereas a thin line is rly singular and stark and hides nothing, it needs to be precise. so anytime i know i want thin lineart i spend a LOT of time sketching, making sure i know exactly where i want my lines to go. so im not second guessing by the time im inking...
ok thats kind of a broad tip lol... here's one thats more applicable: IF POSSIBLE, lower your pressure sensitivity on your device. most devices have some way to edit your pressure sensitivity curve. I use a surface pro at home and this is what my pressure curve looks like most of the time.
When I work on a wacom it looks even more like a reverse L shape LOL. I'm naturally a really heavy-handed artist and I use a "light" or "hard" pressure curve to compensate for how hard I'm always pressing on the pen lol. if you're like me and you struggle with going too hard with the ink too fast... this will probably help a lot!
SFHASLDFH I LOVE THIS ASK this is like the type of question a person gets asked when chalk drawing on the sidewalk at recess LOL. but i understand because I've been struggling also for like. months. I think I'm finally starting to nail it down though so here's some of my observations.
[feel free to save this img but **please do not re-post it or share broadly**. my biggest fear in the world is to spend 30 min on some notes and become a widely proliferated art tutorial im not even kidding. i made it low contrast and difficult to read on purpose.]
my other tip is to just look at and study a lot of reference because that's all ive been doing. the tmnt are really cartoony so its difficult to use like actual anatomical reference unless ur going for that look BUT theres been so many adaptions in so many different styles that there's a real treasure trove of stuff to look at for how to simplify, stylize, and dissect these characters while keeping the recognizable essence. so theres lots to pull from.
If you want to expand further, it's also good to have 5) something sci-fi 6)something fantasy 7)something mundane/slice of life. a bedroom is a really good go-to. And of course some bgs can be two or more of these things at once.
I've definitely answered asks abt bg tips before but here's one specifically for if you want to do bg design for a job:
Your portfolio should probably have at least one of each of the following 1) an interior 2) an exterior 3) a cityscape 4) a nature scene. Just to cover kind of the basics of what you'd be asked to draw on any given project.
I actually feel like I don't have that many cityscrapes in my portfolio... this is something I'm gonna try to work on in the coming year LOL. OH ALSO. This is a very basic tip and people will tell you it all the time but its worth repeating: look up portfolio websites of artists who have the job you want. An easy way to do this is to go onto imdb for any cartoon or movie you like and to find the names listed as "bg/background designer" or whatever then just google that name +"art" or "animation" most artists have some public facing internet presence so it's not hard. spend time studying their work and hold those images in your head! it's a good way to get a good idea of what "industry standard" looks like and comparing ur own art to it... I know people sometimes get bummed comparing their art to others but if you can keep your head up lol.. it'll help you figure out what you need to work on!
.
.
.
ok thats all i have to say sorry for typing so much. happy new year everybody who read this far LMAO!!!!!

I’m confused as to why so many people on Tumblr (and elsewhere) see this as situation where you have to pick a side. It’s possible to think that two groups are both doing bad things to innocent people, to varying degrees at various times. The people losing in this conflict are the civilians of *both* countries who are at the whims of their governments and bear the brunt of the poor (and sometimes horrific) decisions made by those governments. This “Good Guys” versus “Bad Guys” mentality is not sufficient for a conflict as long and complicated as this one and, again, the people who will suffer from that mentality are the civilians they claim to be standing up for.
Maybe the reason I like history is that if you follow a story for long enough it gets very hard to define anything that happens as 100% good or bad. The reasons for a war, how a war is fought and how a peace is made can all be - independently - better or worse.
This war is being fought because Hamas took hostages. A lot of hostages. Too many to ignore. And that was a strategically good for them because it gave Israel no options, just dilemmas. But for everyone chanting for a ceasefire, they need to remember that this war didn't need to start, and could be stopped, at any moment by returning those hostages. All this terrible, pointless death is on Hamas' hands. Israel's best hope at this point is to truly root out Hamas, but even then finding peace will be a difficult task.
But that's the proximate cause for the war. There are also bigger wars being fought.
Islamists form the majority of the world's extremists right now. I can name a dozen major Islamist movements happening, and this war unlocked a huge victory in their PR strategy that works better on the Western audience than live beheadings. As long as you make white people feel bad about colonialism, and say the rights words like 'liberate' and 'decolonize', you will be able to manipulate millions of useful idiots to make apologizes on your behalf and support your naked grab for power. Hamas invaded Israel 3 times in the last 8 years, but only now got the attention it craves to stay relevant in the 21st century. I hope everyone really enjoys watching mass murder, suicide bombings and terrorist tactics, because there's plenty more where that comes from and now they know the right words to say to appease you while they do it. Prepare to be amazed just how many ground invasions, property seizures and destruction, kidnappings, mass murders and violent suppressionare actshually acts of liberation resistance that empower freedom-loving indigenous people to resist neocolonial oppression - even if not a shred of that is believable. I'm serious. This is one of those times when peace ceasefire movements are actually creating the perfect conditions for everlasting war.
This is also a non-nuclear nuclear war. The U.S. doesn't normally announce where they have sent its nuclear submarines but it notified the world that it sent 4 of them to the Red Sea in November. It's part of deterrence to have these beasts in undisclosed locations and able to quickly response to any attacks. Move them close and the response in even quicker - a clear message. Eliminating the advantage of a surprise attack really is important in holding off nuclear war because of mutually assured destruction (MAD). One problem with MAD is that it assumes that the attacking party don't want to die which... if you watch even a little jihadist propaganda you might get worried about how the death cult vibes undercut that deterrence. Now... as unmanned rockets get better and smarter and faster without those pesky human pilots, it's raising concerns about whether countries like Iran can develop its nuclear capability. Even if they can build a warhead, delivering it to its destination has always been a limiting factor, this is why the US dropped them from planes in WW2. In this war, Iran is (getting the Houthis as their proxy) testing out their latest weapon developments. The Houthis/Iran tried to attack Israel with a ballistic missile (it didn't have a nuclear warhead but is the kind of missile that could be equipped with one), which prompted Israel to test drive their brand new and unproven missile defence system called Arrow. It shot the Iranian missile out of the sky. This is huge. I can't stress this enough - technically speaking, humanity's first space battle has just been fought and Israel won. This is what Reagan's 'Star Wars' program was all about - essentially stopping a bullet by shooting it with another bullet. Because this favors defence (if your surprise attack might not penetrate the defenses but you still find yourself on the receiving end of a nuclear counter attack - you are less likely to want to strike) much more thoroughly than mere mutually assured destruction. It means an attacker will face the risk of being turned into carbon while their enemy yet survives - not easy for even the most dedicated fanatic to swallow.
On top of that, Israel has also developed a laser beam - as yet untested in this conflict - that could potentially address the ammunition supply and reloading problems that plague air defense systems. To overwhelm Israel's Iron Dome on Oct 7, Hamas fired 3,000 rockets in about 20 minutes. There are simply limitations to how quickly a defence system can target, fire and reload a physical rocket, plus they are disproportionately expensive compared to the homemade rockets that Hamas fires (that didn't cost anything except redirecting international aid that was supposed to be for water pipes and fertilizer, because civilians dying of thirst and hunger doesn't appear to be an issue for Hamas). A laser beam will speed everything up immensely. You see, when the Soviet Union fractured and collapsed, about a million Jews fled to Israel and since Jews are very experienced with the fleeing-the-country routine, they brought with them the greatest of riches - knowledge. Those Jewish scientists and engineers brought the electronic warfare and rocket development capabilities of the Soviets into the development pipeline of western military doctrine. This is a good, good thing not just for the West but for everyone. The war in Ukraine was demonstrating that lifting the fog of war was absolutely deadly - good communication platforms like drones means that targets well behind the front line are in view and within reach of missile and drone attacks. The only way, it seemed, to win a war was a surprise attack because once the defence was mobilized, any ground assault would be pinned down to a stalemate on the battlefield. Effective air defence turns the tables on the effectiveness of that first strike advantage. The odds of human survival have possibly extended beyond my lifetime again, and I'm grateful for that.
This is also a global local war. We've seen interest in the Russia-Ukraine war ebb away as a younger, hotter war emerges. But what about a war between Venezuela and Guayana? If the US gets involved in one, two, is that three different conflicts... can it cope with that? How are Taiwan's defenses going to hold with 1/3 or 1/4 of American military support? Israel doesn't need help of the U.S. to win this conventional war, although the U.S. could potentially help create a winnable peace to follow this, but Iran and its allies would love to drag the U.S. more directly into the conflict. So far, it's resisted.
But I don't know how this conflict evolves, that part of the story is not yet written. I pray for more good, and less bad, to come and hope peace can be found in time.

Saw someone say that Nia keeping secret was validated by Tyrils whole dilemma and shit behavior about it and yeah soooo true but also I think that. It shouldn't have been part of MCs plot. Like what if it wasn't MC who was told to keep her shadow secret but MAL.... like they have spent most of the year together they worked closely on the ophranage so plenty of time to build more trust between each other and Mal acting weird and closed off would be at least somewhat justified... as well as his sort of immunity to shadow attack like what if Nia had the ability to shield him bc he knew about her powers and didn't need explanation. Like I'm actually so pissed off that they created unnecessary drama for MC when the set up was already there that would have had deepened two LIs arcs and test their bonds with the group and MC.. but no its always annoying variation of liar reveal
I read this ask yesterday I think and have really been contemplating how I want to respond to it because I have so many thoughts and don’t want this to turn into a lengthy, disorganized mess 🤦🏽♀️ But anyway, from an objective standpoint this does make sense. And I do hate that MC was held responsible instead of Nia. (Although it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. I thought everyone would be angry with us, which would’ve put me off Mal specifically even more considering his behavior so far — more on that later though. But it was really just Tyril if you picked one option and Nia herself if you picked the other based on some screenshots I saw. Which bitch, how is MC betraying your confidence when you’re literally standing in front of everyone looking like lit charcoal on a damn grill??? The secret’s already out! But I digress…). However, I know that Nia being coddled is a part of her arc and is contributing to her current shadow state and overall growth regardless of how annoying it is.
Back to your main point though, on a personal level I don’t think I would want Mal to be the one hiding Nia’s secret because I feel that would create a lot of potential for romantic undertones and he’s already been showing less genuine concern for MCs who are romancing him than he should anyway imo. He keeps saying he thought we were dead/going to die, he’s happy we’re back, things were so hard without us, etc., yet his actions don’t actually align with that. He wants to protect everyone so much to the point he’s willing to “sacrifice himself”, but he barely reacts to MC continuously being placed in near death situations? Idk it just feel like we’re priority #974127 on his list.
And then there’s the whole “you slept through it” situation, which I know I keep bringing up but is so serious in my eyes! He gets to diminish and dismiss what MC went through — something we don’t get to do when he’s crying about how hard it was throughout that year and us being ripped from the group was what caused the hardship in the first place! Like imagine if we were like “You didn’t have it that hard, Mal. You got to move on, continue to rob the rich, and open an orphanage while I was strapped down getting my blood drained and no one came to save me” 😐 And the sad thing is that I know it will never be addressed because it was something they used as a throwaway line to punish people who didn’t have the Inspire skill. (Which why you would make a character say something that damn cruel to the MC who is his friend or love interest as a throwaway line is beyond me, but whatever). Either way, my point is that it’s already bad enough that MC still feels like an outsider in the group (to me at least). So Mal being so closed off because he and Nia were keeping secrets on top of everything I just mentioned would be even worse imo
#choices bolas#choices blades#blades of light and shadow#mal volari#playchoices#and I know this is basically only talking about his route in relation to people who are romancing him#people who aren’t or who are romancing multiple LIs probably feel differently#but I can only speak on how I view the story from the lens of a person who is solely pursuing him#and I know this got a bit off topic so I apologize for that#but as I said I have a lot of thoughts#I actually still have more to say but I’m ending it here because I don’t want this post to get any longer#and I also have to cook dinner 🤦🏽♀️#but I’m just gonna make a new post to expand on everything later#choices#choices stories you play#choices app#choices ask

longass monster high liveblog: season 2 edition lets gooooooo
rule school
very first thought of the new season: i want a doll of clawdeens wereruler armor so bad. also im excited for more worldbuilding lore stuff, and more varied werecreature designs! part of me gets a little irked sometimes that there seems to be disproportionate attention payed to werecreatures and the inner workings of their society over other monster species, but i cannot deny, i love a funny lil furry.
especially this side character bear dude who keeps showing up
rly feels like there should be a clause in were-society for what to do if ur wereruler is a fuckin kid. she should not have to be doing all this.
when she finally gets that armor off its gonna be like rock lee with the weights
i love these cunty old werewolf ladies ngl
damn speedreader clawdeen
that painting of foxford is soo cute clawdeen i loove u
toralei!! toralei HUG!!!!!!!! hug AND a pun!!! shes sososososo cute
oh and shes maaaad that she showed affection where other people can see lol the Dynamic.. it is unfolding before my very eyes..
oh damn the fox guy is a sneaky motherfucker? who could have foreseen this....... granted the whale plushie is unexpected
new witch in town
draculauras gay lil witch friend <333
lol is humans using monster slang a microaggression? much to think about.
im really interested in this developing plotline about draculaura being pressured to be like the model of Good Witchcraft. it works well with her established character and arc of like trying to live up to her fathers reputation and status in the monster world. poor girl never seems to be able to just fucking relax.
skelita! i love that shes trying out witchcraft, and the art-based magic is a fun angle too! i can totally see where this is going tho. drac is super serious about magic because theres all this pressure on her while skelita is just trying it out in a casual way so theyre at odds. its an interesting dilemma because i can def see both sides.
im really happy the writing seems like empathetic to both positions here. skelita deserves to try magic her way on her own terms, but its also totally understandable draculaura would feel protective over witchcraft when any misuse of it is ultimately going to reflect on her since she was the one working to legitimize it. respectability is a double edged sword fr!
play it again clawd
aw clawd is such a sweetiepie mamas boy. i def feel a little bad for him. imagine if ur little sister became the queen of ur entire society and ur just like. hangin out there.
oh were doing a groundhog day? im not a big timeloop plot person but ill try not to be too biased
this is also how me and my roommate act when theres a fly in the house
aw im rly glad they acknowledge that selena had like a whole life in beheme that she had to leave behind when she came home.. idk if theyre planning to actually do anything more substantial with that but yea when you think about its kinda fucked up! they probably had friends and stuff! clawd was *born* there! i get why theyd choose to stay here with their family and all even if they could easily go back, but like, its gotta be sad at times!
ok not bad as a timeloop ep goes. still not my fav but like clawds so cute and its so nice seeing him do stuff with his family <3
thats all for tonight i think! see u next time!!

1. First of UNRELATED but FUCKKKKKK MY STIMACH HURTS SO MUHC KILL ME NOWWWWWW N E ways I so saw that after interacting with relatively normal people for the first time in a WHILE post covid (let’s be serious post middle school… like wow I was a loser emo.) and how people can actually LEARN from others instead of intense ridiculous ostracism for any minor differentiation, being online feels like this suffocating circus of charades to fit into any single community, entire ppl’s lives are online to compare to yourself and the comparison is just something that got so so heavy on me, to feel worthy in an internet landscape I had to jump through the hoops of regular teen identity dilemmas while also being out to adult standards of experience education and other standards I simply can’t or don’t give a fuck about achieving I could actually blab on about this forever so I’ll practice some discretion and zip it but thanks for the advice and experience!! Once I’m in physical college classes I hope I’m able to actually make irl friends for the silly reason of wanting to have fun. Human nature ig
2. INCOMIGNG BLABFEST OOPSIE but this made me think about how having a diary is truly the samsara (circle of life - also omg my dumbass had to Google it bc I forgot the name 😭) where in the moment the author can realize by embodying posterior perspectives while writing and in ongoing rumination about the finished product in order to cultivate a matured perspective on a topic, and how that rumination extends WELL WELL after the initial writing experience through memory recollection, and how this recollection is made unique through stimuli from one’s personal writing process, and even if memory fails you the archive of your writing from the inception of the ability to write and OMG THIS WAS SO PRETENTIOUS IM SORRY 😭 but like the ability to blab on about stupid drawn out shit and having the excuse of ITS MY DIARY don’t like don’t read teehee!! Is so fun and like idc everyone who is mad about that is so miserable and not as untouchably smart and superior as they think like how did you even become this ‘above’ us peasants, by WRITING. READING. Whatever. Also THANKS AGAIN YOURW WAY WAY TOO SWEET and also what accomplishments do you hope to achieve this year or in some eventuality?
3. This goes for all of Europe like Europe is so not real I can’t even imagine how tiny it is like it’s literally the size of FUCKING TEXAS and it’s supposed to be a ‘continent’….? Like what. How is it real that these geeks can go to France to turkey in the amount of time it takes to walk from dennys to your Honda civic in a Kentucky strip mall parking lot, like these people need to stop being as pompous about their public transport no matter how effective it is (it’s still really good and way better than the automobile market but let’s be serious ofc it’s easier to establish when your country takes five minutes by hopping on one foot to go from border control to border control)
4. Omg is there any sort of Union that could prompt lobbying for any type of repairs? Ofc it’s extremely doubtful it would get any sort of actual improvements bc MUH PROFITS but I hope the work environment there engenders some sort of small scale solutions by the workers like a really kind worker bringing in a fan…
5. UGH I WISHHHH canvas is too sophisticated NAURRR and also omg this school is making me feel SO stupid and inferior like I want so badly to be a scholarly and motivated student but I’m growing absolutely horribly and getting faced with failure from every direction I hate it so much

Dot’s Flower Problem ❀
Dot: boys I have a dilemma (。•́︿•̀。)
Wakko: oh boy. what did you do?
Dot: I found some of those cute little flowers by the bridge.
Yakko: you can't be serious… they're poisonous! You could die if you eat them! (*゜ロ゜)
Wakko: i’m sure they aren't poisonous to us Animaniacs… (¬_¬)
Yakko: well, it's just as likely you won't live long enough for them to help you either.
Wakko: yeah… but don't we have an antidote kit?
Dot: yeah, but this is my first time trying it out and I don't wanna take any chances with my life! the first thing I did was sniff one of the petals. It smelled okay. Then I got close enough to take another whiff, and all hell broke loose.
Wakko: …you know this could very well be poison right?!
Dot: that’s why I didn’t tell you about it until now!!
Yakko: are you sure? it might actually kill you.
Dot: well at this rate I will be dead already!!!
Wakko: …i hope you’re not lying because you’re really gonna regret eating anything that smells even slightly like flower pollen.
Dot: I’m not joking, boys.
Wakko: you seriously expect us to believe that? (╥ง°o°♡╥ง)
Yakko: i’ve heard worse… besides, isn’t a death wish usually a sign of being overjoyed to be alive in this world?
Dot: yeah, but you know what else? This flower pollen is really weird… I’m kinda worried that someone has taken advantage of its beauty or something! (๑✧ڡ◆ڡ๑)
Wakko: i mean… it doesn’t hurt to check anyway, does it?
Dot: maybe… it wouldn't hurt too much either.
Wakko: let me just grab the antidote kit then…
*Wakko is now finding the antidote kit in the Gag Bag*
Wakko: Found it!
Yakko: okay.
Wakko: it’ll probably look weird on the outside, but trust me when I say, it works like a charm.
Dot: wow Wakko… that’s… actually pretty impressive. Thank you.
Wakko: no problem!
*after Dot drinks the antidote, the siblings teleported back to the water tower*
Yakko: okay, good news: Dot isn’t allergic to flowers anymore. (˃ᴗ˂)
Dot: thank god…
Wakko: so how was the antidote?
Dot: pretty much fine. I think it tasted okay, too. My stomach started feeling funny again after drinking it though.
Yakko: sounds like the poison has gotten back into your system, kiddo. ʕ•̫•ʔ
Dot: yeah, it did… I thought my throat felt really dry but it didn’t.
Wakko: maybe it was that you were going to try the rose petals… the pollen from them can be toxic in general. That’ll explain why there were petals in that particular cupid’s arrow tattoo.
Yakko: maybe it had something to do with it, too.
Wakko: what? why do you assume so?
Yakko: it was a pretty common poison in the early 20th century. And I read up on it. The only difference is the name; it's a lot harder to get to, but… you should drink more water. (⌒▽⌒)
Dot: yep, that sounds good… I think I’ll make myself a cup of that hot chocolate you made yesterday. Do you want any?
Yakko and Wakko: YES!!!

I see complaints that Barbie wasn't a great feminist movie and they're right. Barbie is instead a movie about a doll's relation to the meaning of being human. To go into the movie expecting a call to action for feminism meant you did not watch the trailers. Or the movie lol
This is actually my tweet (or... xeet), but I kinda wanted to expand on it here instead of on... xitter...
The reason being, Barbie is imperfect as a feminist movie. Its female empowerment message is brief, not very clear or logical or offering any real solutions that could work in the real world, and treating a serious subject so lightheartedly isn't effective or sensitive. What Barbie is about, from the trailer and from the very first scene, is a doll that represents to girls all of the exciting possibilities of their future.
Feminism follows behind Barbie, because Barbie is marketed to be an independent adult and not a baby to be taken care of, and Ken is an afterthought, and Barbie doesn't have kids, although she does take care of her sisters and other kids. But feminism isn't what Barbie is solely about and definitely not what the movie is solely about.
Cut below for vague spoilers
Barbie the movie is about how a doll experiences the sorrows and joys of humanity for the first time and how they deal with the question of identity, and to a lesser extent, how humans are able to rediscover themselves through the world of dolls and play pretend. Barbie represents imagination and dreams and possibilities to a girl (child), but once a girl (child) grows up and has a job and family and relationships and responsibilities, what happens to those dreams? Can dreams and reality coexist? Barbie doesn't want to change or become human, but she decides to enter reality anyway because the dream world isn't enough to contain the humanity she gained; is that what adolescence is about? Ken and CEO Will Ferrell represent the patriarchy's toxicity to uhh America Ferrera's character and her daughter, but even there, there is more to Ken and the humans- finding out what they really want to do in life, defining their relationship to others, forging a new identity, learning from past mistakes, being honest with their feelings and expressing them.
As a movie about a toy, an unwilling Pinocchio, a combination of Woody and Buzz Lightyear, that movie about androids, it's a very relatable story that speaks to girls and women much more than Pinocchio or Woody or Buzz Lightyear or creepy android children could. There are real questions and dilemmas within the humor and parody, and the conclusion is as honest and uncertain as real life is. As any other type of movie... it would require like another hour of exposition to hold up to scrutiny, and my bladder is not that strong. That's what I meant when I said the bad parts of the movie come back around as good. The silliness of the characters' actions, doll and human, the self-awareness that the writers have that this is a very nonsense plot, somehow makes the movie more relatable, at least to me. I think if they tried to overexplain or make the moral of the story extra clear and super serious, it would feel try-hard and preachy and take away from the production and acting and the essence of Barbie.

182 Days of TPN - Day 11
Chapter 11: “Traitor, Part 1”
I got mixed feelings about this stairs scene. The anime gave us that first person p.o.v. as they walked up with no conversation at all, which was okay as it added to the eerie mood of the house when it’s quiet, but I feel like the silence just lasted a bit too long? But then I understand that most of what the trio discusses about whether or not Don & Gilda will believe them has been mentioned briefly before (and after library scene), so there’s no real reason to listen to it again. I wish they could’ve combined elements of both versions somehow, if only for one moment that I’ll mention at the end.
...Y’all think she had similar thoughts after what happened in the Seven Walls and during ch178 or what? Because now I do. And I dunno whether to be proud or cry.
Could be just my personal preference that I like how the anime had Ray sit up on the second floor of the library instead of stand with everyone else down below, not only because I think it suits him (somehow), but also for the reason that he knows so much more about this house and its secrets than the rest of them, so it makes some kinda sense to show that distance between them and the advantage he has over them as well.
After the meeting in the library, we get this moment between Norman & Ray. The last panel of Ray wondering how & when Norman will reveal the truth to Don & Gilda, along with if he’s even capable of doing so in the first place, reminds me of Ray’s big dilemma in his special chapter. He was so concerned with how he should break the news to everyone, but struggled with the idea and contemplated doing so since knowing they’re all raised to be food for demons is such a heavy burden. He ends up keeping it all to himself so the others could at least live a normal life free of worries. It was a roundabout way of Ray protecting them (or at least their innocence) and while telling Don & Gilda the secret would’ve seriously crushed their reality, giving them false hope and placing targets on their back with a twisted truth isn’t much better. Sure they might agree to assist with the escape plans more easily, but keeping them in the dark about the serious danger they could be in if any part of the plan fails is too risky, hence why Ray gets so mad at Don in upcoming chapters for swiping Isabella’s key to the hidden room. If he and Gilda really did get caught, that move could’ve very well cost them their lives, instead of “sell them off to bad people” as Norman & Emma made them believe. Had the duo known the real story at the time, I doubt they would’ve acted so recklessly. So while Ray knows fully well that telling the true secret is a double-edged sword, I’m sure he would’ve much rather told them nothing than a white lie, especially since he’s very aware neither Don or Gilda are actual spies.
Norman mentions before (during the stair scene) that if they don’t know the full truth, perhaps they wouldn’t get shipped out if their plans fail, which is a valid idea, but I don’t think someone like Isabella would be that lenient. Granted, mom isn’t interfering with them directly during this time, but that’s because her sheepdog is doing his job at keeping everything under control, so she doesn’t necessarily have to make any drastic moves. Then you got Krone to worry about too as she’s off trying her own crazy schemes.
Favorite panel/moment:
The real reason I wanted the stairs conversation animated..

AO3 has been kicking me out for around 10mins bcs of pages loading too slow on wifi and data both so it wont let me post a comment on ch 7 (i think) SO HERE IT IS i will not go to sleep till i send it to you PUBLICALLY ! (gonna also paste it into ao3 tmrw but i need to send it now and then pass out for at least 3 more hrs xD):
REMYYYYYY AAAA i literally firgot everything i was gonna say when i figured out its gambjt j'fucking adoreeeee 🥰🥰🥰
one bad mutant for eric one food mutant fir charles. theyre just playing chess at this point. assholes. also with the like killing and mystiques comment abt another talk between erik and charles i had a thiught there... hmmmm.... i wish i rmbrd what kt was. OH YEAH. it hink i said this a while ago somewhere that its like. Its a draw, and impasse, and until either one of them crossed any of the arbitrary lines they drew in the sand nothing will change
Also scott is a dumbass and katja is so extremely like. Idealistic. I love that for her bcs she still has enthusiasm amd has that righteous anger that comes off as either annoying or hopeful to someone whos been fighting a war for so long such as scott. And i love that part of the convo where scott is like we cant save the whole world. It made me think of schindlers list and that quite - the man who saves a life has saved a world entire. Which is ironic given that its eriks goons doing this, which AGAIN brings me to erkis hypocrisy this time and like. Him and charles are just two sides of a same coin arent they?
The encounter with that girl yesterday had left him more confused than he had experienced in years. - side eyeing you for this 👀🤨😤😹❤️
With this weapon, we can turn all of New York into mutants in a few days and all of humanity in six months - oh i rmbrd now! (I cooy some quites to clipboard not to forget to comment on them xd) - what i wanted to say here is that i have all the love and none of the respect for cartoonish villain plans ised to attract the attention of your ex boyfriend xD "imma turn the whole new york into SHARKS and i'll be the SHARK MASTER" like dude chill ffs just text him its okay its cool xD.
❤️
It sent, actually! But yeah, everything's lagging there right now including my answers to you and I'm getting unnerved bc AO3 GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER. So I will answer here :D And then I will send you to bed BECAUSE REASONS.
And hey, there's a definite advantage to posting here: You can include visuals :D.
I needed my red eyed Cajun baby in there :D. I mean obviously, since the team is what it's like in the 90s cartoon plus one additional weather-witch, but also because Remy is too fucking cute (and Taylor Kitsch was too fucking hot playing him).
Yeep, exactly. Charles and Erik love each other far too much still for their own good. This whole thing would long have been over with everyone dead if they didn't hold their respective people back. With how it's going, there's just more and more collateral damage on the way, and those two still will just fuck it out and cry on each other's shoulder in the end, and they deserve all the shade thrown at them for it.
Uuugh now I get emotional about Schindler's list again, never managed to rewatch that, it broke me so much the first time already. I think it's really the hardest part about this job? Getting to terms that you can't be everywhere at once and that making as much of a difference as you can is what counts and not saving everyone because that simply won't work. And my girl is still at the beginning of learning that sigh. It's really chilling seeing Erik walk around killing off random people in this franchise just because they're normal people bc like. This is what happens when someone's been on the receiving end of this and then gets the power to turn the tables on the fascist assholes. The moral dilemma of the whole thing ugh.
Oh god, I'm so sorry for this storyline already LOL. Poor Ororo really needs better taste in men …
thanks, now I can never take that plan seriously again LOOOL. I mean, when Erik finally gets up to get this plan up and started, Charles will indeed be there in person, so I guess in the end the plan worked? :D
#sometimes stormy gets asked things#effervescentdragon#x men#everything after x2 didn't happen sue me#x men original timeline movies#ao3 get your shit together#i'm sorry but that part just broke me#erik risking killing ten thousands of people and starting a war#just to get charles' attention#WHERE'S THE FUCKING LIE THO#writing#of course NOW ao3 is down

You'd think a big, spiked behemoth like the Future Shock Cerberus would have packed some serious firepower, wouldn't you? Nope. You and your passenger each got nothing but a dinky flamethrower that barely reached beyond the chassis and couldn't singe the wings off of a mosquito. In fact, the Cerberus' weapons were more prone to damaging itself than its aggressor, and you couldn't even switch to handheld weapons as a backup. Nevertheless, it still looked totally badass, especially flying through the sky at the hands of someone who had mastered the shunt boost.
Sasquatches were a common sight among friends and crew, because a giant jumping monster truck is something everyone can enjoy. I went with the Apocalypse variant, because the Future Shock was a little too weird, even for me. Strangely, GTA monster trucks were never much good at crushing cars, typically pushing them around and occasionally toppling over instead, but at least the Sasquatch could jump on top of them like Goombas. I wonder if it was a subtle metaphor for IRL monster truck shows moving away from car crushing and shifting to racing and stunt-themed events. As long as I can still BUY THE WHOLE SEAT BUT ONLY NEED THE EDGE SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY
The Wastelander was such a goofy thing. It was used in scripted missions as a vehicle transport, but there was no way to actually transport vehicles with it in regular gameplay, so you were just left with this oversized hauler that took up two lanes. When we pulled it out of the garage, it was usually to ford one of the western rivers or to bring an obnoxiously huge vehicle to a car meet.
Sometimes I thought about buying a Technical just for the fun of it, but I could never justify the purchase, because I didn't need it and the Insurgent did everything it could do. Then the Technical Aqua was introduced, which solved the dilemma cleanly. Once it was in the water and not getting the barrels hung up on streetlights and pieces of geometry, it was a good time. The game really could have used more things to do in the water on the main map.
Most of the special vehicles that came with the Import/Export update were used to test and try out new features on cars, like the Phantom Wedge's plow, or in this case, the Rocket Voltic's jet engine. This car was literally just a Voltic with a rocket engine installed in the back. It took a little while for it to recharge, but back then, we didn't care and just had a good time with it. Even after newer and better vehicles with rocket boosts were released, the Rocket Voltic still had a niche in baiting griefers hiding in passive mode into taking a ride and being forcibly ejected without a parachute 400 feet above the ground.
To this day, the Ruiner 2000 remains the single most expensive land vehicle in the game at 5.7 million GTA-bucks, or 4.3 million with the trade discount. That's on top of the 2.5 million you needed for the office and warehouse to store it. All those millions didn't really seem worth it until years later, when it was discovered to be one of the best ways to bully Oppressors. The Ruiner 2000 was nothing special by today's standards, with only eight missiles, a jump function, and a parachute, but owning one opened up access to the Fully Loaded VIP job. Fully Loaded gave the player who started it a unique Ruiner 2000 with infinite missiles, Mobile Operations Center armor, and immunity to missile lock-on, in addition to turning off police for everyone in the session for 20 minutes. Seeing those two words pop up was like hearing Gabriel blow the trumpets, and every crew member in the session knew it was time to bring about the griefer's personal Götterdämmerung.
The last Ruiner in my collection is this one here. The ability for muscle cars to wheelie was added to the game a few years after it came out on PC, breathing new life into the class by adding a traversal option, so I needed a Ruiner that didn't date back to 2015. Much more care was put into its appearance, with true white crew paint, glass t-top panels, and a drink in the cupholder for that extra lived-in touch. It was my daily driver for quite some time and eventually retired to a place of honor next to my nightclub's office, where it could still be part of my GTA life up until the very end.
One of my all-time favorite IRL cars is the Ford RS200, a 600HP monster masquerading as a quirky '80s grocery getter to the untrained eye. GTA paid respects to its Group B origins with the GB200, and the conversion was pretty darn faithful. It was a little pokey at the top end because it was released during the developers' obsession with "advanced" handling flags that only served to hamper performance, but that didn't stop me from throwing it down the dirt roads and beaches all day.
The Brawler was another obscure off-road sports car that only a game like GTA would feature. It was based on the Local Motors Rally Fighter, a lifted limited-production car powered by a Corvette motor. It was just as fast as its real-life counterpart, but in a twist of fate the Rally Fighter is likely much safer to drive as the Brawler was infamous for having brakes made of gas station toilet paper. You needed a co-driver to watch the trail well in advance or you'd be parking it in a ditch, which was a fate worse than death in the dark ages of 2015, well before the ability to dismiss personal vehicles was added.
Sometimes you just want a truck. The Caracara 4x4 was added to the game well after the original Caracara failed to sate demand for an F-150 Raptor, and it was an apology well accepted, with great aesthetics and capability. I'm not really a fan of CCSB trucks in real life, but the four seats were welcome here because I drove this thing everywhere. Lots of other people did too, and the Caracara 4x4 was a regular sight in public lobbies well after it faded out of being the new hotness. Flying in the face of memes about American truck owners, people who drove trucks in GTA were almost always total bros and very chill. It spoke volumes about someone's personality when, in a game full of multi-million-dollar exotics and futuristic wondercars, they chose to drive a good ol' pickup truck.

We Must Dismantle Capitalism Unless I Get Really Rich First
Our world has become an unequal and unfair place to live, thanks to the unchecked power of capitalism. Wealth, and in turn, power, have been concentrated into fewer and fewer hands, and opportunities are increasingly hoarded by the few at the expense of the many. How we answer these injustices is the moral dilemma of our time, and thus it’s imperative we dismantle the capitalist system unless of course I were to get really rich first.
In simple terms, capitalism is when individuals are allowed to own property, which can involve physical property, like a good, or even their own labor, like a service, and then sell that property as they see fit. When you break capitalism down this simply, it’s easy to see what its inherent problems are. First, who decides who can own what and why don’t I personally own more of those things? And second, how do we decide how much something is worth and why aren’t we saying that I am worth more?
At its core, capitalism is a system that rewards selfishness: it encourages people to act on their self-interest even at the expense of those around them. Done in the aggregate, this creates an entire way of life that places profits over people, but that honestly doesn’t seem so bad if I were to be the one doing it. I actually think I would probably still keep the people in mind sometimes, even while I was the one accumulating all of the profits.
When I had those profits, I would probably do a better job of sharing them with everyone else than what’s being done currently. We should all be outraged that the top 1% of the world controls 50% of the world’s wealth. If I was part of that 1%, I would make sure that number was way lower, like 40%. That seems fair.
Because nothing about capitalism is fair! The great lie is that the free market gives us all an equal opportunity to achieve success and accumulate wealth, when in reality the game is rigged from the start to favor those who already have an advantage. The rich lie and say that they deserve their privileges, that they earned them fairly through an open competition, but we all know that’s not really true even though it sounds like something I would probably say if I got rich. Honestly, if I were to become wealthy, it probably would be for something I did, like invent a cool new toilet or something, and so in that case we could be confident that the system actually WAS fair and we wouldn’t even need to dismantle it, after all.
If we’re not going to have a serious discussion about dismantling the entire system, then we at least need to start asking the wealthy to make some serious concessions. After all, all of the most important checks and balances into our system have come from concessions made on behalf of workers. We need to make these concessions, such as a higher marginal tax rate and a more robust corporate tax and an actual estate tax, sooner rather than later, before our inequality explodes any further. Also, we should make these before I might become wealthy, because once I become accustomed to that lifestyle I really can’t see myself giving any of it up.

I’m in a bit of a moral dilemma. I think I’m decently left wing I think. The only belief that really would be relevant to share is that I’m anti capitalist. Capitalism has also affected my race very badly. However, my f/o is capitalistic to the maximum. He might be caring and sweet and wonderful, but he’s pretty much the embodiment of and does everything negative to come with capitalism. He also kidnaps people a lot, and is part of a company who wants to turn the main characters’ home into a business district. Obviously I do not like him for this. I think it’s important that I make sure I don’t condone his actions. I purposely made my s/i flawed (and even less left wing) for liking him and I love to spin him around in my head and ask him “what the actual fuck is wrong with you. Why are you such a boot licker. What goes on in that brain of yours”. But sometimes when I imagine my selfship and feel genuine love for my f/o, I feel really guilty for that. I’m currently going through a very difficult situation that has been lasting for almost 2 years. I’ve been affected by depression and intrusive thoughts throughout that time too. My f/o is typically the only thing that brings me happiness and joy when everything else fails. I love him a lot. He’s wonderful really. But I feel like a bad person for finding that comfort within him and I worry not only my fandom sees me that way, but also the selfship community as well as potentially more left wing mutuals. Am I in the wrong? Also I get very serious about this but at the end of the day it’s a kids game. It’s a game designed to emulate kids games. The only serious lore moments are like few and far between or are going to be cut from canon soon.
TLDR: my f/o is a very very bad person, and I feel bad for loving him. Am I in the wrong?
Well, I don't have a say in this since I dont give a damn about politics but let's say don't bring political views when it comes to f/os & attraction since its not a good idea./lh

Thaggu Ke Ladoo: This Sweet Shop in Kanpur Has Been 'Cheating' its Customers, But Why?
The variety of sweets prepared and enjoyed in India is startling and of all, ladoos are probably the most common and also most loved. Ladoos are also considered to be God's beloved sweet offering - be it Lord Ganesha's favourite Motichoor or the famous Besan Ladoo served as prasad at the Tirupati Temple down South. Back in the day, the Coconut Ladoo was packed for warriors and travellers as a symbol of good luck while they embark on their journey. Here's another interesting tale of ladoos that comes from Kanpur - a small, industrial city in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Remember the Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukherjee starrer movie Bunty Aur Babli from 2005? The movie was a super hit but it also brought into limelight a small sweet shop in Kanpur called Thaggu ke Ladoo where one of the important scenes of the movie was shot. The sweet shop did enjoy a lot of star attention, but that's not its claim to fame. It has a very fascinating journey that will compel you to pack your bags and head out to explore - just like we did.
Adarsh Pandey, who belongs to the third generation of the family that has been running the sweet shop, tells us, "My grandfather, Ram Avtar Pandey, ran away from his house and landed in Kanpur about 60 years ago. He started selling ladoos on a plate to earn a living and was later inspired to open his own sweet shop. Our shop gained popularity because our ladoos are not like any other normal ladoo. We have a secret recipe that distinguishes us from the others."
What's in the name? So, the word, 'Thaggu' in Hindi comes from the word 'Thug' which means to cheat or a person who cheats you. Now, one wouldn't dare to promote their venture claiming that their intention is to cheat their customers but surprisingly, the gimmick seemed to have worked for Thaggu Ke Ladoo! Over the years, their business has flourished, despite the strange name and their tag line which says - 'Aisa Koi Saga Nahi, Jisko Hamne Thaga Nahi' that literally translates to "There is No Relative or Person Who We Have Not Cheated!" The catchy one-liner became so popular that it was even borrowed by renowned lyricist Gulzar for a song in the movie 'Bunty Aur Babli'. We're curious to know why someone would keep such a risky name for their sweet shop that is sure to drive customers away. "There is actually a very serious story behind the name of our sweet shop. It's not just a marketing gimmick. My grandfather was a huge follower of Mahatma Gandhi and once he attended his speech in Delhi where Gandhiji remarked that sugar is 'white poison' and it can lead to several deadly diseases. But people were still consuming it and paying a lot of money for it. Thus, they were being tricked by the British. This put him in a dilemma because he wanted to avoid using sugar but there was no way to prepare these ladoos without it as sugar was very easily available back then and also cheap. Therefore, he decided to call them 'Thaggu Ke Ladoo' to hint that the customers were being tricked and warn them about the side-effects of consuming refined sugar. Over the years, it became more of a joke," shares Adarsh Pandey.
An old glimpse of the shop when it started The sweet shop is popular for selling only two items - Ladoos and Badnaam Kulfi (another weird name which means kulfi with a bad reputation) as they don't want to compromise on the quality by keeping more sweets. "We have to provide the same taste that we've been offering for all these years and so, it's best to keep limited items, else, people might really think that we have cheated them," says Mr. Pandey. They have six outlets in Kanpur at present and have expansion plans to other cities, perhaps Delhi/NCR in the coming months. Finally, what are these ladoos made of? "Our ladoos are made with the right blend of pure khoya and suji and come in two variants. One is plain and the other is infused with dry fruits like kaju, pista and badaam," says Mr. Pandey. A box of ladoos could cost you anywhere between INR 420 to INR 600 while a bowlful of Badnaam Kulfi (ek dona - 100 grams) is priced at Rs. 44. The whitish-brown ladoos are rich and delicious while the kulfi is super creamy and will simply melt in your mouth.
The oldest shop is located in a noisy, chaotic lane with a bustling crowd at Bada Chauraha in Kanpur. In their book, 'Highway on my Plate: The Indian Guide to Roadside Eating', famous food gurus Rocky Singh and Mayur recommend it as 'a must-visit place' and also share having a conversation with Mr. Ramavatar Pandey (founder of the sweet shop) who was a great poet and a man of much humour.

Bearing in mind that my ideal version of MASH is a show that is critical of systems of power:
Mulcahy stays the exact same. He remains polite, kind, tolerant and "jocular". I'm not critical of him possessing these individual personality traits, or even the fact that those traits happen to be possessed by a Catholic priest. And in this "ideal version of MASH" it's important to me that he also remains a Catholic priest.
What I would like to see changed is how he's framed. I would like to see "Love thy neighbour or I'll punch your lights out!" not as ironic coming from Mulcahy, but as fitting coming from him because that phrase could be the slogan for the Catholic Church. I'm obviously not the first person to say this but there is a well-documented history of violent organization presenting themselves as being loving, nurturing and really just wanting you to think of the children/the future/the voiceless etc. I don't actually think the Catholic Church needs additional assistance from a primetime television show to sanitize its image because the general reception of the Mulcahy character is indication enough that it's doing just fine on its own.
Another specific example: I would like this scene from Letters, where Mulcahy genuinely provides heartfelt comfort and guidance to a spiralling Hawkeye play out the exact same way. Hawkeye comes to Mulcahy cognizant of the fact that he's "just a cog in the war machine". Mulcahy tries to placate him by telling him he "saves lives". We know from War of Nerves that he sees a parallel between that work and the work he does "saving souls". MASH does intentionally frame him as being a medical-adjacent colleague in "best care anywhere" more than once, Hawkeye's asked him to assist in surgery, and Mulcahy does a tracheotomy in Mulcahy's War.
There's even a direct parallel to the thing Hawkeye is agonizing over in Letters, "I fix people up so they can go out and get killed. Or kill other people.". In Identity Crisis Mulcahy does the exactly this but without the subsequent moral dilemma. Hawkeye struggles to see himself as a good guy. Mulcahy does not. And in my opinion, he shouldn't, though that should be challenged at some point by the narrative.
The criticism I'm making is of MASH for refusing to tackle organized religion as a system of power. It's practically a hard limit for this show and I think that's worthy of critique. If you're asking audiences to question misogyny, nationalism, racism, militarism (with varying degress of success) and not only ignoring the role of Christianity in upholding those belief systems, but casting a Christian leader solely in a positive light, then that's a pretty serious rhetorical weakness.
That weakness becomes laughable when audiences are expected to root for Mulcahy to achieve a higher rank in the military. On MASH? Someone had to be asleep at the wheel for a show to forget itself like this.
But to be clear I don't have a problem with the fact that he seeks advancement in a patriarchal structure. That's perfectly in character. What's a Catholic priest to do but that?
If the various members of army brass we see on the show never question their faith in the organization they belong to and I'm asserting that there's a parallel between that and Mulcahy, then it's right that he's never shown to question his affiliation with the Church. But it's wrong that MASH never does - and though I do happen to object to that on moral grounds, this post is about my practical objection. If MASH was a show about how great the military is and how righteous it was for a foreign entity to assert its political and moral belief systems in Korea and elsewhere, then this objection wouldn't hold.
p.s. I don't think there's a single instance of me doing Mulcahy meta where I haven't included this disclaimer but here it is again: If Mulcahy is your blorbo, I'm happy for you. I am not saying anyone is a bad or immoral person for liking him or being interested in him, even if you're solely interested in him exactly as he's represented on the show.
In YOURR ideal version of MASH, does Father Mulcahy lose faith? Is he critiqued? Cast as a villain? A fool? What are your thoughts
