hopefully tumblr doesnt eat this up again 😭
i was wondering how the batfam would reacted to getting caught watching edits of celebrity!reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m just going to put them in a relationship with Celeb! reader just to make things easier for myself.
Dick doesn’t give a fuck if he’s caught watching edits of you! You’re his spouse of course he’s going to save each and every edit there was of you because it’s be a crime if he didn’t.
He’ll even show you the ones where he thinks you’re the hottest in shamelessly with a smile. He honestly can’t get enough of the edits that his FYP is filled with them and snippets of interviews that transition to the edits as well.
Dick has no shame in being caught because why would he? You deserve to have a thousand of edits in your name and Dick has one too many edits saved in his phone, so much so that your surprised his phone still somehow has storage for the next wave of edits that he’ll be saving should he deem them worthy.
‘Babe come look at this edit of you! You look hot!’ Is the most often used when Dick is showing off an edit of yourself to you in hopes of getting your opinions on it. You don’t mind people making edits, especially didn’t mind them now when Dick would shout ‘my spouse is fucking gorgeous! God damn’ out of seemingly nowhere.
You’re not even surprised when his Lock Screen is a live wallpaper of the edit itself, dick really didn’t have any problems showing you off in any capacity at all.
Jason is either calm with being caught or he’s wanting to strangle Roy because who else is going to rat him out to you about watching edits of you other than him?
‘Chipmunk I can explain-‘ Jason would start.
‘There’s no need, I know you watch edits of me sweetheart there’s nothing to be ashamed of at all.’ You tell him as you cuddle up to his chest. ‘It’s complete fine I’m not going to shame you in watching them, I think it’s flattering that you do.’ You add and Jason couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief as he held onto you, kissing your forehead.
‘It’s not my fault you’re perfect and the edits happen to capture that beauty sweetheart.’ Jason replied and you couldn’t help but chuckle as you looked at him sweetly, not knowing how much more you could possibly love this beautiful man as much as you could, especially when his cheeks flush with a red colour while he scratched his nose sheepishly.
You didn’t mind that he was watching edits and while he was glad about that he was more than certain to watch them elsewhere, more specifically away from Roy before he can rat on him…again.
Tim is terrified the moment you catch him watching edits of you, so much so that he completely forgot to pause the edit as you stare at each other, accompanied by music playing in the background.
It’s hilarious to you but embarrassing to poor Tim who believes that you’d see him as a weirdo for watching them, but all you do is laugh and kiss the side of his head before fiddling his hair affectionately. ‘Watching edits of me are you? And here I thought you couldn’t get more adorable Timmy.’ You tease as you kiss his cheek.
‘You’re not weirded out?’ He’d ask, holding his phone to his shirt, not wanting you to know that he was more or less the one making them rather than watching them. He’s literally got several usb drives worth of edit material to make, no joke.
‘Nope just flattered.’ You replied before leaving Tim be before he passes out from embarrassment. Little did you know he’s making about ten more edits as we speak, all of which have to be perfect and he’ll watch them ten times over if he must, for no specific reason at all.
Bruce is just admiring his beautiful/ handsome spouse. That is all.
Alfred would’ve most likely told you that he’s been watching edits of you when you’re away. It’s adorable and you couldn’t help but smile at how your handsome boy has an hidden file on the bar computer dedicated to your edits. (Dick and Tim found it by pure accident and dick couldn’t hope but tell you about it.)
Needless to say you won’t see him watch the edits but you’ll hear from everyone else that he watches them and that about the closest you’ll get to catching him in the act of watching edits honestly. However don’t be surprised when you see a video from Stephanie of her filing Bruce somewhere as he watched the edits of you on the big screen of the bat computer, his eyes filled with pride and awe of his pretty/ charming spouse looking so effortlessly ethereal.
While you might not have caught him in the act yourself, you still found yourself smiling at Bruce smiling up at the edits of you -and sometimes him because you’re a power couple- as a warmth encased your whole being, buts that’s more than enough for you as it can act as your own little secret.
Damian is good at keeping his little secret safe, so you seeing him watch edits of you were slim to none, and even if you did you catch him in the act you would have to have been blessed by Lady Luck herself.
He’s a little embarrassed that you caught him in the act, mainly because he thought he was better than this to let his guard down to be caught in an act like this, then he’ll become irritated at the fact that you had came into his own room just to catch him watching edits of you.
‘You’re watching edits of me.’ You said.
‘And? Did you seriously come into my room to tell me that? What happened to respecting my privacy?’ He retorts, arms cross over his chest. He didn’t care that you caught him, he’s just more or less annoyed with his privacy being violated.
‘Sorry my sweet I should’ve knocked, but you haven’t answered my question.’ You apologised with a little hug and a kiss to his forehead and Damian found himself forgiving you in an instant as he brought you back into a short lived hug, hiding his flustered face in the depths of your neck, tightening his grip on you.
‘Tim hacked my phone.’ He says in response and you just let it slide, knowing that he’ll admit to it sooner or later and not when he’s being cornered into talking. You knew he watched the edits because he’s totally infatuated with his spouse and Damian knew it too, but wouldn’t dare tell you until this moment has passed you both by.
So until then he’ll watch the edits in secret because he can’t get enough of how gorgeous you looked in them.

chapter 166 thoughts
As of chapter 166, Oshi no Ko has finished a roughly four-and-a-half year run started back in 2020. While there's some speculation about an epilogue or some extra content in volume 16 when it drops, this is where the main story ends. And you know what that means!!!
OSHI NO KO HAS OFFICIALLY ENDED WITHOUT ADDRESSING OR ACKNOWLEDGING THE FACT THAT RUBY KISSED HER BROTHER IN CHAPTER 143
please understand that this is FUCKING BOGUS
I'll probably do a longer post on this subject specifically, but my main critique of 143 when the chapter dropped was that while I liked the individual beats in it and I was really glad to see Akasaka finally addressing this tension bubbling underneath Aqua and Ruby's relationship, the immediate swerve away from showing us the aftermath of that kiss felt to me like an admission that the story was going to needlessly draw this out even more. Now that the story has ended and we can see that moment had literally no impact on the plot or even the character dynamics, I'd like to revise that statement - it feels like an admission of compromise. It feels like crumbs thrown to AquRuby fans to tempt them to keep reading and to stir up the waters of the ship wars, so people would keep reading and stay invested in the manga right to the very end. But most of all, it feels deeply disrespectful to both Aqua and Ruby as characters. Rather than exploring their feelings and giving both of them interiority and complexity in relation to incest or even just fucking acknowledging that the kiss had happened and letting their dynamic evolve, the series just memory holes the entire event and asks that you do too. Rather than letting Ruby have any development whatsoever as pertains to that relationship or, god forbid, let a female character move on romantically from the male lead, the series ends with her feelings so up in the air that I literally could not tell you what she thinks of Aqua by the time he dies.
ANYWAY… FINAL CHAPTER. BREATHES OUT VERY HARD.
I really can't believe it's taken us until the final chapter to actually deal with Ruby's grief over Aqua lol. We got a snippet of it last chapter but it was so brief that it really just felt like a tease. I also just think it's kind of bizarre that we're spending this little time on Ruby having feelings about Aqua's death to the extent that I have no idea how or when she found out about it.
It's also kind of hard to feel particularly strongly about Ruby's grief when the chapter doesn't really bother to explore it all that much. It's just a montage of Ruby quite literally Screaming, Crying and Throwing Up while Akane dispassionately narrates it all. The art also doesn't really help in terms of connecting with the emotions at play - I usually really like Mengo's expression work and the way she depicts extreme emotions but this all just felt like of… I don't know how else to put it. Goofy??? Is that an insane thing to say about Ruby grieving her brother???
Idk, something about both the panelling and just the extreme on-the-noseness of Ruby, again, literally Screaming, Crying Throwing Up while she's wearing a Burning cosplay Just In Case You, The Audience, Didn't Get It only for her to abruptly be done crying with no exploration or insight as to what's going on in her head that allows her to move forward.
Honestly, this is kind of the issue with everyone in the cast. The resolution is just sort of "Aqua died and we were sad about it but then we stopped being sad". I know what the story is trying to go for here - it's trying to express that even when you're in pain, life goes on and so you have to find a way to go on with it. But the result is that we spend all this time oogling at their pain without spending equivalent or even meaningful time on their recovery process.
It feels both excessive and undercooked at the same time and I'm left with the same icky, voyeuristic feeling I got from Aqua's funeral last chapter. This should be the point in the story at which we empathize with Ruby the most, but she remains a frustratingly distant figure right to the final pages. Part of this is an unfortunate consequence of Akane's narration directing these final chapters meaning that we're hearing about Ruby from an outsider's perspective and thus don't really see what's going on in her head… but if I can be frank, this has been an issue of Aka's with Ruby in particular basically nonstop since chapter 123.
As others & myself have noted, despite the absolutely catastrophic downward spiral Ruby is in at that point, Aqua revealing himself as Gorou basically flips it all off like a switch. There's some mild lipservice paid to the idea that Ruby is just using her dependency on Gorou to prop herself up and it's pointed out that the issues that contributed to her breakdown haven't actually been resolved - but none of these issues are ever even acknowledged again, let alone resolved. So, functionally, that reveal does fix all Ruby's problems in the space of a single chapter and the result is, again, that we spend multiple chapters gourging on depictions of Ruby's absolute rock bottom only for her to ping back to normal like a lightswitch. As such, the depictions of her pain feel less like explorations of Ruby's interiority and more like voyeuristic oogling at Ruby's misery and trauma and the effect is that the resolution to it all is both unsatisfying and a little gross. The result is that it feels like Akasaka is just indulgently mining the imagery of cute girls suffering because it causes simple thoughts neuron activation but doesn't respect these girls enough as characters to build them back up.
It doesn't help that this is basically the in-universe excuse for Ruby's career further skyrocketing. Instead of Ruby becoming a star on her own merits as the story keeps insisting she was supposed to, she's artificially buoyed by the public's morbid fascination with her tragedy. If I was feeling charitable towards the story right now, I would say this is an avenue of intentional critique but… well, I don't feel super charitable about the story right now lol
I WILL say that the one part of this chapter I did just uncomplicatedly like was the beat of Mem trying to suspend activities (presumably in the wake of her grief for Aqua) only for Kana to basically immediately explode into her room and help her get back on her feet. It's a beat that would've been much more effective if we'd, you know, seen it, but I otherwise enjoyed it and I thought it was sweet.
But. pbbbbtttt. I guess I can't talk around it any longer… let's get into the Dome concert.
To start things off on the immediately worst note possible, Akane describes Ruby performing at the Dome as being 'everyone's dream', including Aqua's. I'm reminded once again of the strange turn the story took in insisting that um, actually, performing at the Dome was totes Ai's dream all along (even though she literally didn't give a shit even a week before she was due to perform there herself) so Ruby performing there is fulfilling that dream for her!!! and I can't help but wonder if this abrupt shift in focus is an attempt to make readers forget what Ai's actual dream was - to see her beloved children grow up happy and healthy. Hell, it wasn't even really Aqua's dream, until the story suddenly had to try and convince us that his entire purpose for existence was to kill himself so Ruby could be an idol for slightly longer than she would've otherwise. The only people whose dreams she's textually fulfilling are Ichigo and Miyako and Ruby herself, but…
Honestly, is this really Ruby's dream anymore?
Who is Hoshino Ruby? What does she want? Why does she want it? These should be the very least of what we can concretely say about not only a protagonist but a character who has become a central figure of the entire story as Ruby has, but with the way Oshi no Ko has warped and distorted her, I find myself increasingly unsure of what the story wants her to be or how I should answer those questions. What does Ruby feel about Aqua? Was she still in love with him? Had she moved on, romantically? Was she still waiting for a response to her confession? Did she finally realize it was probably kind of shitty to respond to her brother going "lowkey wanna kms" by sticking her tongue down his throat? I Guess We'll Never Know.
This extends to whatever the fuck Ruby's relationship with idols and being an idol is. Almost the entirety of Ruby's time in the story has been spent reiterating over and over that Ruby cannot just be an idol who imitates Ai and that to truly shine, she needs to step out of her mom's shadow and shine in her own way. Ruby even literally tells Kana in no uncertain terms in 137 - "I'll be a star in my own way. I won't be like Mama."
While this has always been the text of the story, as I've pointed out before, the actual art with which Ruby's idolhood depicts her basically just as Ai 2.0. It relies so heavily on mining the imagery of Ai's charisma and personality as an idol and using them as the measure of Ruby's success as an idol that Ruby essentially has no visual or conceptual identity of her own as an idol. She's just Ai, But Arbitrarily Better, For Reasons The Narrative Fails To Actually Establish But Hopes That You Just Accept Anyway. This was always kind of annoying, but now that friction seems to have been resolved by… just making her Ai 2.0, But Arbitrarily Better (etc, etc) in the text as well. The fact that we're given no further insight as to Ruby's feelings and continue to just have Akane Explain Ruby's Character Arc to the camera also doesn't help.
All this combines to make the Dome concert and the final few pages feel exceptionally cold in a way I really don't think was intended by Akasaka. Yes, that splash page was nice and flashy but… I just felt nothing. I have no idea if or why Ruby cares about this. And even though the Dome concert has been hyped up through the entire story as the peak of Ruby's achievements as an idol, I feel no sense of accomplishment in her finally being there - not just because her journey to it was basically sneezed at us across two panels, but because it just feels hollow as a victory lap for Ruby. Again, she feels so distant and abstracted as a character that I can't bring myself to feel very strongly about her good or bad.
I think the perfect encapsulation of this are the final four pages of the story. Ruby's words here are very clearly intended to be a callback to Ai's words to Gorou in chapter one but as @all-of-her-light pointed out in our initial discussions of the chapter, Ruby very much does not have an equivalent to Ai's conclusion that she nevertheless wants and values the opportunity to find personal happiness and fulfillment outside of being an idol. Are we supposed to believe that simply being an idol is all that Ruby needs to achieve a similar degree of happiness and fulfillment? Is there no more to her than that?
I've seen a lot of people interpret this ending as exceptionally bleak and, as usual, gleefully predicting Ruby's immanent suicide because her beloved oniichansensei isn't around but this is indulging in, if you'll allow me to be frank, some pretty transparently ship-motivated flanderization. Despite what certain sections of the fandom would like to believe, Aqua and Ruby's lives, past and current, have never revolved around each other to the exclusion of every other relationship in their life. Ruby has a massive support network of people who love and care for her and actively want her to get back on her feet. I can one hundred percent believe that she does not need Aqua in her life to be happy and content.
The issue is that we don't see enough of Ruby to understand that ourselves. Again, she has become such a distant figure with so little insight into what she's thinking and why that this ending is basically a Rorschach test in which you can interpret basically whatever the hell you want or assume because we have so little canon basis to support or debunk our assumptions.
and yes. don't think i didn't see them. it IS both grimly hilarious and weirdly tonally appropriate for this ending that ruby has a bunch of oshi goods of ai and aqua including their fucking autographs set up to say goodbye to every day.
AND…… WE'RE DONE!!! THAT'S OSHI NO KO, BABY!!!! well, technically, there's going to be a 20 page extra chapter in volume 16 but I don't see it being big or substantive enough to meaningfully change my feelings about the ending so… I guess we're leaving it here. Damn. Feels crazy to be done with it.
I'll probably do a bigger post down the line about my thoughts on the ending as a whole but in terms of just How This Chapter Made Me feel, I guess the word is just… meh! It's definitely not an ending I like and I think the execution is sloppy and rushed but I also just don't really have the energy to feel angry about it. Maybe that's sad in its own way but tbh… I still really love Oshi no Ko! I still find it engaging and I find the characters I enjoy rewarding to talk about. I like the artistry of the anime adaptation. I don't blame anybody else for being so turned off by this ending that they're done with the series but for me, I like what I like about OnK too much that this ending could retroactively ruin it for me. Whatever else happens with the OnK franchise, whatever directions the anime and live-action take, this will always be the series that gave me Ai and the Hoshino family and. look at me. look at what she's done to my brain. could I really ask for anything more than that?
That being said, I'm definitely not done with discussing the series! I have fics to write (including a VERY exciting large scale project lined up with some friends), my Ai analysis post to finish and I also want to do a re-read of the series and finish my anime rewatch. I'll be here to discuss Oshi no Ko as long as I have things to say about it and as long as you guys will have me! Despite how the series ended, I've had a genuinely wonderful experience in the fandom and I really don't want to let go of the little community we've built together just because the series is done. I'm Ai's fan for all eternity!!!

From Loaves to Love -BuckTommy (one-shot)
Summary: Set during 8x07, Eddie sends Tommy a picture of Buck's baked good filled fridge. Fix-it fic. A continuation for the snippet I posted this morning. Words: 2.9k Read on Ao3
-
Tommy receives a picture of a fridge full of baked goods. Mostly, from what he can tell, loaves. The picture comes from Eddie without a caption. It takes a while for him to realize that the fridge is familiar because it belongs to Evan.
Eddie texts him a few minutes later:
Every time he thinks about calling you, he bakes something instead.
Tommy has a little bit of a breakdown about that because maybe in his mind he'd thought that Evan would already be over it, over them. He'd been not hoping for it, but expecting it, even while he knew that he would probably have a few more cries about it and that any reminder of Evan was enough to make his heart hurt.
The thing is that Evan isn’t really a baker. Or at least, he hadn’t been in the six months that they were dating. He’d been busy from the looks of it. He’s still looking at the picture when Lucy plops down next to him.
“What’s happening there?”
Baked every time he thought about calling Tommy. He doesn’t even fight when Lucy grabs the phone out of his hand and scrolls back on his texts with Eddie.
It’s been the only form of communication he’s had with anyone from the 118. He was thankful for Eddie and for the way that he’d reached out the day after the break up not to demand anything of Tommy, but to ask how he was doing.
Tommy had texted him back after some consideration. In all their back and forth, they hadn’t discussed it or Evan. Tommy hadn’t allowed himself to ask, not sure if he wanted an answer.
“What are you going to do?” Lucy asked.
“What do you mean?”
Lucy fixed him with a look. “Tommy, you’ve been moping for days. Clearly he is too. Neither of you wants this.”
“It’s for the best,” Tommy said and he didn’t even know if he believed that anymore.
He’d believed it in the moment, had been so absolutely sure that it was the right move for both of their sakes and yet…
“You’re running,” Lucy said. “I know…I know you’ve been hurt before, but this time you’re not just hurting yourself. You’re hurting Buck too.”
“He’ll get over it. I’ll…I’ll get over it.”
Her eyes bore into him even as she handed him his phone back. “Thomas, you’re in love with him.”
Buck had bought all the baking supplies when he’d decided he’d take a stab at making Tommy a birthday cake. That had been before his heart was wrenched out of his chest and given a few stomps for good measure. That was before Buck decided to Buck things up by pushing for more too quickly and before Tommy decided that it was better if they ended things before Buck could end it in the future.
He didn’t bake a birthday cake.
Instead, he baked a banana bread with the bananas that were going spotty. He discovered that being busy and having to pay attention to something like the recipe kept his mind off Tommy. Except that Tommy came rushing back into his head afterwards.
Buck almost called him. Wanted to. Wished he could hear his voice and his laugh and that they could fix it.
Fear stopped him. Fear that Tommy had blocked his number. Fear that he wouldn’t pick up. Fear that he would and that he’d tell Buck not to call. Fear that he would call him Buck again instead of Evan. Fear that Buck would be sent to voicemail and that he would say something he couldn’t take back.
So, he didn’t call.
Instead, Buck baked a pumpkin loaf. Then an apple loaf. Then a walnut and date loaf. That was when he realized he was out of flour and also that hand mixing was not ideal.
He called Eddie.
It had taken him hours before he told Eddie what happened. Eddie hadn’t said much, but he’d offered Buck the couch and then went out and got them breakfast the next morning. Eddie was the one to tell the rest of the 118 and when Buck begged for Eddie to check on Tommy, Eddie just hit his shoulder.
“I already did,” he’d said.
Buck didn’t talk about Tommy again.
“What’s going on, Buck?” Eddie asked over the phone.
“I need you to come to Costco with me.”
“Costco?” Eddie asked and after a pause. “Yeah. Alright. I’ll even drive.”
Eddie didn’t say anything when Buck bought the twenty-five pound bag of flour or the bottle of vanilla extract, or the sugar, or the bags of nuts. He did raise his eyebrow when Buck picked up a Kitchen-Aid mixer.
“What is all this, Buck?”
“I just…I need to do something.”
So you’re starting your own bakery?”
After they got everything up to his apartment, Buck sent Eddie home with all the bread he’d made the night before. Eddie didn’t say a word, but he did look like he wanted to say something. A few days later, Buck thought that he’d gotten quite good at making different types of loaves. He’d even branched out and found more interesting and complicated recipes.
He did have to take a second trip to Costco to get more eggs when he got it in his head that he should attempt a baked alaska.
Buck did think he saw Eddie take a picture of the contents of his fridge the night he came over to play video games.
Maddie and Chim both didn’t seem to get it. When she said the universe would give him someone special, did she not realize that it had already happened? That Buck had somehow still managed to blow it and that Tommy wasn’t leaving his heart anytime soon? That not calling him was Buck trying not to push where he wasn’t wanted? That not calling was Buck letting Tommy have what he wanted.
And yeah, Buck had been thinking about what Tommy said after Buck not being his last and how he needed to explore. It was bullshit, but if that was what it took…if he could prove to Tommy he’d tried to find whatever it was he was supposed to find with other people then…
The logic was dumb.
After they left, making him promise he’d cut back on the baking, Buck went back to baking. He made brownies and took them right into work the next day alongside a banana bread, a walnut loaf, a zucchini bread, and a pumpkin spice loaf.
The knock on his door was in a quick rhythm and Tommy almost didn’t answer. He’d been wallowing a bit because they’d had plans for tonight. Plans to celebrate his birthday, no less.
Tommy hadn’t celebrated many birthdays in his adulthood. There had never been much of a point, but Evan had wanted to plan out a date for them and now…now Tommy was all alone in his house wallowing. Moping. Rethinking his whole life.
“Coming,” he called out when the knocking started again.
He was not expecting Hen and Karen. No kiddos in sight to see the state of him at least. Tommy was a mess. He’d changed into sweats and a tank the moment he got home. His hair was a mess. His eyes probably looked red rimmed and exhausted.
“Hi,” he said. “What are you—”
“Happy Birthday,” Karen said.
“Oh? Uh, come in.”
Tommy didn’t even realize they had a small box with them until Hen plopped it on his kitchen counter.
“What is that?”
“You broke it, and suddenly we’re all on the verge of becoming diabetics and it was just Halloween so we’ve all had more than enough sugar. But it’s your birthday and we figured you should get a taste of what you’re created.”
“What?”
Out of the box came bread loaves. Muffins. Cookies. Brownies. Hand pies. Were those meringues? No cake, though.
“He bought a Kitchen Aid. He’s becoming some sort of baking machine,” Hen said. “All because he can’t bear to think about you.”
That went right to his chest. Lucy wasn’t wrong. Tommy did love him. Tommy was in love with him.
Looking at Karen and Hen, he wondered if they would understand where he was coming from.
“I was his first boyfriend,” he said.
“We’re aware,” Karen said.
“So, then…then you know what that means. He’s been out for…for six months and he doesn’t have any other experience except for with me. How is that fair to him? To me? One day he’ll realize and then that’ll be that.”
“You’re a dumbass for thinking that,” Karen said.
“My wife is usually right about things,” Hen said.
Tommy groaned. “He put me on a pedestal. He doesn’t know it, but he sees me as his gay mentor and he’s confusing that with…with, I don’t even know. I just — I had to put a stop to it before—”
“Before you got hurt,” Hen finished for him.
“Looks like you didn’t avoid that,” Karen offered. “Did you talk to him about any of this? You guys were together for six months, what was the point if you were always going to just leave in the end?”
Tommy hadn’t even realized he was crying, but he was. “It’s not like I planned it. It was…it surprised me too. He asked me to move in with him and he was talking getting engaged and married and—”
“Wait…wait, he asked you to move in? How do you go from that to breaking up?”
Tommy couldn’t explain about the Abby thing and he couldn’t explain about how he wasn’t the guy that got forever and how he wasn’t the guy that deserved someone like Evan. He couldn’t explain about how much it freaked him out to think that Evan could jump right to moving in together before they had even said that they loved each other as if Tommy were just some kind of place holder until Evan found someone else. Someone better. Explaining that would make him be seen and Tommy…he didn’t know that he wanted to be seen even if Hen and Karen could understand where he was coming from.
“Look, talk to him. Please,” Hen said.
“This is just a bump in the road. The two of you, you’d never looked happier than you have in the last six months,” Karen added.
“I…I don’t know.”
Buck ran out of sugar.
Jee was partially to blame because she’d spilled some the night he had her as a helper. It was 3am and Buck supposed that there was probably somewhere open that he could get some sugar, but he was down to just his underwear and the plaid shirt Tommy had left behind that didn’t even smell like Tommy anymore and wasn’t that just unfair. Plus, his oven was on and Buck didn’t want to leave it on while he went out to get sugar. It would be just his luck that he’d be back and his apartment was one fire.
Eddie probably had sugar. Buck didn’t want to bother him.
Chim and Maddie would judge.
Bobby might bring some over or he might just tell Buck to go to sleep.
He couldn’t sleep. Couldn’t stop thinking about Tommy. Missed him. Wanted him.
Buck grabbed his phone and he went right to messages and typed:
Ran out of sugar. Do you have any?
Sent it to Eddie.
No response.
He wandered over to his couch and…Tommy had slept there just a few weeks ago because he didn’t want to leave Buck on his own. No one had ever done that for him before, cared enough to stay and cared enough to give a damn. Buck wiped at his eyes. It wasn’t fair.
When he broke up with Natalia he had felt free. When he broke up with Taylor he’d felt like he was finally choosing himself. Ali leaving had been clouded with so much else that Buck had hardly been able to think about the break up because his leg was in a cast and his future was in question. Abby…well that had been devastating and yet this…this was worse. So much worse.
His phone pinged.
He fished it out of his pocket and oh no…he…the text hadn’t been sent to Eddie. He’d sent it to Tommy.
Yes.
Oh no. And he was typing. And not typing. Typing. Then…nothing. No message. No more typing. No call. Tommy was bubbling him again.
Buck dropped onto the couch with a groan. At least Hen and Eddie weren’t there to try and steal his phone again. This time, Buck didn’t even want to call.
After all the times he stopped himself from reaching out, that was what he sent? A text asking for sugar?
When the knock came at his door, he went to open the door, reluctantly. A part of him almost didn’t even expect it to be Tommy but of course…of course it was Tommy standing there in his pajamas with just one of his flannels open over it all, in each hand a container of sugar. Brown and white.
“You didn’t have to,” Buck began.
“It sounded desperate,” Tommy said. “Hi, Evan.”
“Come in,” Buck said.
Tommy stepped inside and Buck closed the door, trying to gather himself. In the light of his kitchen, he could see that Tommy looked if nothing else tired. The skin under his eyes was dark, like he hadn’t been able to sleep. Buck could relate. Tommy was taking him in too and that made him feel the tiniest bit self conscious about his lack of pants.
“So, you’ve taken up baking.”
“Yeah.”
“That’s not a normal response to a break up.”
Buck laughed. He laughed because he might cry if he didn’t.
“Do you want me to be like you, then? All unbothered at the end of the best six months of my life? Is that it? Oh, wait…no, you want me to go find myself or something? Sleep around and what, go back to being the himbo that Abby dated after you left her? Except I guess now I can sleep with men and women, somehow I don’t think it will go any differently.”
“Evan,” Tommy said and his voice was gentle and sad and there were tears in his eyes.
“I can’t do that,” Buck said and his voice broke. “I can’t. I can’t. I miss you. I want you. I wanted to bake you a birthday cake and since I couldn’t do that I baked everything else and it still isn’t enough.”
“Oh, Evan,” Tommy said and he set down the sugar and opened his arms, giving Buck the option.
Evan rushed into his arms, burying his head in Tommy’s shoulder, tears and all. His arms clutched at him and Tommy didn’t think that Evan was likely to let him go any time soon. It didn’t matter, because Tommy wanted to hold onto him too.
“I’m sorry,” Tommy said. “I’m so sorry. I did this to us.”
Evan nodded against him. “I didn’t help,” he muttered.
“When you texted me tonight…the thought of you up at this hour baking, I got worried and I’ve been literally doing anything possible to stop myself from driving over since that night. I had to come. I had to see you.” He took a breath and couldn’t hold it in any more. “I love you, Evan.”
“You love me,” Evan said back, pulling back, staring at him with that amazed look in his eyes like he couldn’t quite believe it.
His hands reached for Tommy’s face. “I guess it’s a good thing I love you too. And I am never letting you go, again.”
Their kiss was reminiscent of the first. It was even happening near where that kiss had happened. It was gentle, soft, full of so much wonderment and feeling. Neither of them willing to push it into more because this was what they needed. There was so much to talk about and so much to consider and work on and yet, Tommy wasn’t afraid of that as much as he was afraid of giving up on this. On them. On Evan.
He’d lived a little over a week without Evan and even that was too much.
“I’m still not moving in with you,” Tommy informed Evan after a few more shared kisses.
“Oh. Yeah, I jumped the shark on that a little.”
“You also forgot to consider that I own my house and you rent,” Tommy said.
“So, how about this, nothing changes and we communicate more. You decide when you want us to move in together because we will. One day. You may be the first dude I’ve ever dated, but I think you can be the last too.”
He kissed Evan again and Evan moaned into the kiss. They were interrupted when the oven timer went off.
“I thought you ran out of sugar?” Tommy asked.
“I was going to make apple pie,” Evan said. “That’s cupcakes.”
He let Evan go take them out of the oven and out of curiosity began to look around. Opened the fridge. He couldn’t even begin to count how much Evan had managed to bake.
“What are you planning on doing with all of this?”
“I have no idea,” Evan said. “Donate it?”
Tommy just laughed. “Yeah, Evan, I’m sure someone will appreciate it. Those cupcakes are mine, though.”
“Yeah,” Evan said. “Happy birthday, by the way,”
Tommy ate the first cupcake before it had cooled and without any frosting. “Hmmm. Delicious.”

Hey! Any advice on writing multi chaptered fics or just longer stories?
I feel like I'm okay for like snippets but have no idea how to write the middle of a story or move a character or story from point a to point b.
And asking you because you're writing is phenomenal and I'd love some advice.
(But if no brain space for advice I totally get that too and feel free to hide this ask or something)
(Anyway great updates on boundless and the one shot Brimbrond)
Sorry for taking so long to respond to this! I just wanted to take some good time to gather my thoughts because oh man oh boy I am a bit of a nerd about plot structure, even if I pants it a lot of the time -- because middles and structure absolutely plagued me when I was a beginner and so I spent a long, long time studying it and breaking it down.
I'm going to start with some very, very basic advice and then get into some more specific stuff. So let's talk first about how to structure a long-form plot first.
DISCLAIMER: this is how I personally structure plots. More often than not I veer off my own track. And this is a very western way of structuring a plot. It's well worth looking into how storytellers from around the world structure their work because it can vary wildly (Miyazaki is a great example of this). Take this with a grain of salt. It's a guideline which I find helpful. This is going to get very, very long. Bear with me:
Tumblr media
When I'm first thinking about how to create a plot around a story I want to tell, this is the process I walk myself through, and it tends to work about 75% of the time for the stories I like to tell (I'm not much of a thriller or mystery writer and those tend to have different kinds of structure). Main recipe is as follows:
Status quo - establish the setting and the character. Do this by the middle-to-end of chapter one, preferably. You can get away with drawing it out a bit in sci-fi or fantasy works that require more worldbuilding, but try not to.
Inciting incident - I won't tell you to start in media res, as that varies from writer to writer and story to story. Generally you want to have this somewhere in chapters 1-3. Say we're talking about LOTR - I'd say the inciting incident is when Bilbo goes invisible at his birthday party and leaves for retirement. Everything sort of snowballs from there (Gandalf confirming this is The One Ring, the Ring being passed to Frodo, the adventure beginning, etc. etc). This is where your character can lose something, or be confronted with a huge problem, or gain some new information. This is the point where your story really picks up.
Point of no return - your character has been presented with a problem or is put in a situation and now they have to decide what to do about it. Sometimes characters choose to run away, or choose inaction. It's up to you and your character as to what they do next.
The annoying part - the most helpful way I've ever found to think about middles is in terms of a series of decisions and consequences. Your character must decide what to do (or try to get what they want), and this will then come with consequences to those decisions. I ignore a lot of writing advice because writers seem to be very cagey about how they compose middles and plots for some reason, but the one piece I heard that helped me was: "What does my character want, and what stops them from getting it?" -- and this can be anything, right? Frodo wants (has to) take the Ring to Mordor. Luke wants to learn to be a Jedi like his father. Inspector Poirot needs to catch the murderer. Odysseus wants to return home. Each of these characters are going to make a series of decisions toward their goal, and they may be working from incomplete information, or bad paradigms, or racing against the clock, or against impossible odds. They're going to make mistakes. Over and over and over again. The middle is a series of decisions, consequences for those decisions, and obstacles (more on that later).
Point of no return 2, electric boogaloo (i.e. the actual midpoint to the story) - the part right before the climax -- the climax IS NOT the midpoint of your story, nor is it the end. This is your midpoint where Everything Fucking Sucks. Your character's back is against the wall. They have to change, or fail.
Paradigm shift: your character learns something new, or develops in some crucial way that leads to:
The climax/confrontation: 3/4 - 7/8th of the way through your plot. Frodo decides to keep the ring. Luke uses the force to blow up the death star. Anakin's fear and the manipulation from Palpatine overtakes him and he turns to the dark side. Inspector Poirot gets his last crucial piece of information and gathers everybody together for the Big Reveal. Odysseus gets home and chases the suitors out of his house. Etc. Etc. This is that Big Point in the story we all think as the most important or crucial point (but it's not. That's the key here. THE most important point is the whole middle of how we got here).
Consequences and paradigm shift 2 electric boogaloo: varies from story to story, but this is the fallout of the last decision or confrontation. Your character may reflect on what they've learned. The killer goes to jail. Frodo returns to the Shire and it's saved, but not for him. The journey your character has been on has irreparably altered them, or the world around them -- for better or for worse.
Resolution: the place where you land the story ;) what is the final impression you want your readers to have of your character, or this world?
Alright so that's all kind of nebulous. Let me give you a slightly more specific form of this plot structure that I use pretty often, because I almost exclusively write character and relationship-driven stories since that's what interests me most:
Tumblr media
So most of this looks much the same (the inciting incident is some kind of meetcute. The characters then have to decide if they want to have some kind of relationship -- I like to name this part the callback). Then we have a whole weird squishy section of building interest and tension, before once again we have The Big Fight (darkest before the dawn or what have you), before one or both characters have some kind of paradigm shift, they confess their feelings (or resolve the fight or whatever), and the security of the relationship is established -- happy go lucky times, everything is beautiful and nothing hurts.
So the middle here is of course still squishy and nebulous, but the focus here is still on "What decisions are the characters making? What are the consequences of those decisions? What are they learning, and how do they respond to it?" Maybe the tension is in one character being more reticent, while the other is more open. Maybe the tension is a sexual tension (will they, won't they?). Maybe a character is working off of incomplete information, or a misunderstanding, and that needs to be cleared up before the relationship (or even their own personal growth) can progress (both Elrian and Thalionel in Stars and Boundless Sky follow this pattern). The middle is a push-pull between your character's desires and outside forces that are stopping them from getting what they want, or achieving what they want to achieve.
So okay, that's all well and good. That's basic plot structure. Let me get into my thought process about middles specifically:
Begin with your ending in mind. I do not mean that you need to have like the whole resolution to your story fleshed out. If you're that kind of writer, great! But if you're more of a pantser like me, then that can be a big ask. Instead, ask yourself: what do I want my character to have learned by the end of the story? How do I want them to have changed, or grown? Do I want it to be for better, or for worse? Is there a specific plot goal you have in mind? (saving the world, or catching the murderer, solving the mystery, exorcizing the ghost, the couple getting together at the end, the found family finally gelling with each other, or whatever).
Once you have that thought in mind, now start to think about what your character might need to get from their starting point to their ending point. If it's a murder mystery, this is your information gathering section. You can lead your character to wrong or right conclusions. Have them make mistakes. Etc. etc. If it's a romance, this is where you create a string of scenes where the characters have opportunities to interact and learn more about each other (works for platonic slowburns, too). If this is a traditional hero's journey, this is where you plop in your actual journey.
Not to repeat this ad nauseum, but your middle is all about getting your character to your end goal, but in the most difficult way possible lmao. Let them make mistakes. Let them make bad decisions -- and then follow through with the consequences of those bad decisions. Give them bad information. This is where understanding your character's fundamental flaws becomes extremely important. Your entire plot, imo, stems from your character's fundamental flaws -- because ultimately that is what is going to slow them down the most from reaching their goal. Sure, you may have the big bad evil guy (bbeg), but we're not worried about him. That's an external factor and that's easy to drop in when you need a quick problem to place in front of your protagonist -- but that problem needs to be in service to your character or your worldbuilding. Teach them something. Give them an opportunity for growth. Aragorn needs to lead at Helm's Deep so he can inhabit his leadership role. The mountain pass of Caradhras needs to force the Fellowship through the mines so that Gandalf falls fighting the Balrog and comes back leveled up and ready to fight, and other characters in the fellowship have a chance to grow into their roles without relying on Gandalf for leadership. Your middle is all about crafting little opportunities for character growth, always while moving toward your end goal -- whatever that may be.
The paradigm shifts are crucial, and they can shift for better or for worse. It's up to you and your characters and the story you want to tell as to which it'll be.
If you're bored, your reader is bored. Only write what excites you, skip all the rest, and make it make sense at the end -- I'm so serious. Yes you need to add in breaks for pacing (like the whole Rivendell section in LOTR), but in those breaks still make sure that you're either expanding your worldbuilding, or giving your characters and opportunity for growth.
If you want to tell a really long (novel length) type of story, sideplots and alternate POVs are your best friend. They are structured exactly the same as a regular plot, they're just simpler or smaller and generally work in service to the main plot. Maybe there are side characters or side relationships you'd like to develop. Maybe there's a smaller mystery or a part of your worldbuilding you'd like to explore. Action plots can be side plots to romantic or platonic slowburn plots, just as much as it can be the other way around. And this is not something you need to structure out the gate. Just be curious and playful. Find points in your story that interest you, and explore them a bit. You'll find that they expand the story.
Biggest and best tip I can give you, when all is said and done, is to decide what kind of story you want to tell and then examine how other people are doing it. If you want to write a superhero story, pick out your favorites and look at how they're structured. If you want to write a mystery, same thing. If you're writing a romance or a drama, again -- same thing. Look at the pieces of fiction that you like, figure out what you like about it, and then apply it to your own work.
That's all the general advice off the top of my head. IDK how helpful this was lol. If you want more tips on middles I can try to look at it a bit more in depth, but to be quite honest middles are really what defines a genre. Romances have different middles to thrillers. Thrillers have different middles to mysteries. Mysteries have different middles to dystopian sci-fis. Etc. Etc. So take the general advice with a grain of salt and look more specifically at the genre of story that you're looking to tell.
Thanks for coming to my tedtalk <3

a/n: i think abt matt and karen's date in that restaurant all the time. such a perfect scene! i wanted to capture that energy. i've always wanted to write a matt x librarian! oc fic. but times are tough and i can never commit to things lol. here's a snippet of what could have been. also, i am not from new hampshire. but oh my god, how pretty!!!!! im jealous.
warning: matt murdock x librarian! reader
Tumblr media
matt didn't think his night could go any better. in front of him, he's got the most beautiful girl of his dreams. she told him that he is wearing a white cardigan and light blue dress, the fabric reaches the ground. she told him that the kids from the library tell her it reminds them of when the sky is clear of clouds, only sunny and blue.
matt takes a sip of his wine. "you got family in new york?"
"no," she shakes her head, taking a sip of her water (when he first asked her out, he wanted to take her to drinks. but marianne has sworn off drinking for life). "moved here three years ago."
matt's eyebrows raised. matt realized just how little he knew about her, despite how marianne was the common thread in nelson & murdock. "where are you from?"
"new hampshire." said y/n, a small smile peaking through her, like the first ray of sunshine. "it's beautiful there, so much color and life."
"god, it's hard to describe it," she said. matt loved how she described things, down to its smallest details. she talks in such a cadence akin to deep flowing rivers to morning birds. she can make her grocery list sound like a love poem. "it's hard to capture that beauty... sense of awe at the life around you, you know?"
matt smiled, so hard his cheeks started to hurt. he was sure he'd grow smile lines by the time he's forty if he keeps this up. maybe it was worth it. for y/n. "yeah," he muttered, almost lost in a trance.
"why'd you come to new york, then?" he's genuinely curious, his head titled to the side. "i mean, you make new hampshire seem like another planet next to new york."
she laughs, a giddy and joyous thing. "new hampshire's home. but new york, it never leaves you know? even with the grim and grit, there's something or someone that just makes you want to stay. when I interned here in hell's kitchen, the only thing that kept me moving was the kids. story times, their little faces, their constant questions. all of it. it gave me purpose."
matt hears her heart race, the kind that spoke to one's sense of passion. it was almost melodic, the rapid yet enchanting rhythm of muscle.
"nobody truly understands that they're the future," she said. "our future. i want to give something to them, something irreplaceable."
"like reading?"
"yeah," she sighs, like talking about the children of hell's kitchen filled her with such fervor, she couldn't contain it. "exactly."
"but working with the best lawyers in new york is a definitely a bonus," she adds, holding up her glass of water, the ice swirling against the glass.
y/n narrates what she's about to do, matt chuckles as he does the same, their glasses clinking.
"what about you?" she rested her head on her hand, her heartbeat starting to race as she met his eyes. though their gaze would never be able to meet, his dark gaze became her favorite shade of brown. it wasn't like hers, like earth's dirt in new hampshire's wilderness-- it was gold, shining like embers.
"me?" matt raised his eyebrows.
"yeah," she says, tucking a piece of hair behind her ear, her vegan samosas long gone by now. "what made you want to be an attorney?"
"it was my father really," said matt. "he was a boxer. . . caught up with the wrong people. and when i was nine, he died. i tried giving him justice, but no luck. i guess i just don't want any nine year old matt's to feel the same way i did."
"like what?"
"helpless."
her gaze softened. "you're a good man, matt."
"i think you are good, too, marianne," says matt. "better than me."
and he meant it. for years when darning the suit of daredevil, he feels as if there is a twisted part of him taking over his soul. every punch felt one step closer to that. being matt murdock, keeps him grounded-- but that wouldn't be possible without foggy, or karen, or y/n.
she seems like she doesn't have to try. she is effortlessly good and pure. and maybe there is a twisted side to her that she hasn't shown to him. but he's hanging out the hope that this is who she truly is. a person who is kind and good at her core, even if she had to eat through the rotten parts of herself. maybe that's what makes her truly good.

[wip wednesday] MLC fic snippet
soooo I'm not dead I just got eaten by a videogame, but I've been slowly chipping away at a new fic (all the old fic is still being written, too, never fear).
have a snippet from a time travel dfs/lxy thing I've been rolling around. li xiangyi wanders into the future, di feisheng is searching for li lianhua and—finds him, in the strangest way. angst and smut ensue.
Di Feisheng comes up from the kiss as if from a prolonged dive, his breathing echoing in his ears, struggling to get his bearings. Li Xiangyi has dug insistent hands into his hair, a fist curled at the nape of his neck. A tight grip, keeping him there. Would Li Lianhua have kissed like this, with such fervent hunger? That thought will close over his head like black water, if he lets it. He pulls Li Xiangyi close enough to feel his heaving gasps against his own chest. "Tell me," he says, perhaps more bluntly than is needed. "Have you ever fucked before?"
He sees Li Xiangyi's eyes widen in surprise before he averts them. Then, "A—a girl in a music house, once. She played the guzheng. Beautifully." Di Feisheng stifles a spark of irritation. "I do not want to hear about girls or their guzheng, Li Xiangyi. Have you been taken?" "Is that what you want, Di-mengzhu?" That tone is familiar, the haughty lilt that cuts through Li Xiangyi's fluster. "To fuck me like a wife?" This audacity is a thing Di Feisheng remembers, ten years later. Li Xiangyi fought like he could not be caged, could not be cornered. Even on his knees, he looked up with the gaze of a conqueror. "No, because you're not a wife, mine or otherwise, and I do not fuck women. I can take you like a man is taken." "Oh." Li Xiangyi blinks his spring-dark eyes. Li Lianhua's eyes. No fight in them now, no fire of victory. "Then what are you waiting for? You already took off my clothes." He was soaking wet from the rain, but Di Feisheng doesn't say that. Rather, he tugs on the soft thread of teasing in Li Xiangyi's voice and decides it holds. When Di Feisheng kisses him again, Li Xiangyi sinks into it anew, his hands tearing at the clothes still between them. He does kiss like he fights, like he can't conceive of losing, like the messy slide of their mouths is his only purpose for existing. What if, says that cruel voice Di Feisheng thought he'd smothered long ago, the one that speaks only in the echoes of things lost. What if you had done this ten years ago? What if you'd kissed him then, when he looked at you across your blades and your heart almost stopped? Di Feisheng gasps against Li Xiangyi's bare throat. The smell of sweat and rainwater on his skin. Strands of hair cling to his shoulders. He's shed the robe Di Feisheng wrapped him in, but his shivers do not come from the coolness of the room. Di Feisheng pushes him from his lap. In the twilight, he seems more shadow than flesh: lean arms, slender throat, the still-wet tumble of his hair. The words nearly stick in Di Feisheng's mouth. "Get on your hands and knees."

hello! What are your rules exactly for writing prompts? Can I ask for prompts containing your specific story and it's characters? Like, in this case I want to do a prompt asking for the reactions of Tango and Welsknight to learning just how little time their hel counterparts actually have. The fact that no, they don't have forever unlike the hermits do. Or is that too spoilery or not the kind of prompt your supposed to ask? This is my first time asking for this kinda thing lol
Also, can I just say how amazing your writing is? Like damn your writing is so beautiful. So many sentences that describe things so eloquently, and your characters so full of personality. They feel so real. I live your fic Redstone and skulk. It's been stuck in my head these last few days dangit.
Ah! Thank you so much for the kind words 💜
I'm glad you're liking RnS! It's my pride and joy [even if I'm struggling with it a bit at the moment].
I have no stipulations on what people can request as far as writing prompts and asks [though, given yours is a part of a larger question, I would recommend sending it again with just the prompt, so if I answer, I can answer the ask direction with the snippet!] I pick and choose which ones I work on when I have the inspiration for it, so there are many I haven't gotten around to. But I try my best to get a lot of them written! If they're too spoilery or will get handled in the main fic at some point, I will generally speaking, tell you instead of answering the ask.
[this one will get tackled in the main fic, but from the main characters' POV, so I think doing it from either Wels or Tango's POV would be interesting.]
But yeah! Don't be shy. I love prompts. I just sometimes can't get to them is all.
[Edit] Wait! One stipulation. I cannot write suicidal ideation and self harm. That is not what you asked for in your ask, but I don't think I've stated it in awhile so, for future reference for anyone else who would submit a prompt: my hard no boundary line is suicidal ideation/self harm. I cover it when it's relevant for characters, but I can't take prompts for it.

Tidbit Tuesday
I was tagged by @divine-victory (you’re so nice to me 😭 — thank you!) to post some wip snippet I guess but I have nothing except the new chapter of Glass doors I’ve been working on for ages so I’m posting a bit of that for y’all.
“Can I make a confession?” Eddie whispers, breathing Buck’s smell in.
“Mhm…”
“I kinda hate your parents.”
Eddie says that almost conspiratorially, in such a way that Buck can’t help but laugh, leaning back and looking at him with shiny eyes.
“I love you,” he mumbles, feeling a little bit too pathetic but so, so honest.
“Yeah, love you too, Buck.”
Eddie keeps rubbing his back until they both silently decide to go back to bed and now it’s Buck who cuddles up on Eddie’s chest. More specifically, Buck puts his head on Eddie’s shoulder, his arm thrown across Eddie’s middle and their legs tangled together.
“She said I don’t have to bother with coming back at this point…”
Buck leaves that hanging in the air of Eddie’s dark room, cocooned by Eddie’s arms and his presence, while his heart breaks and heals at the same time. Eddie audibly gulps, recoils at the admission. He can’t even begin to imagine telling his own son such a cruel thing.
“I’m sorry, Buck, I- I really hate that. You don’t deserve any of that,” he tells Buck, turning around to have a better hold of the other man.
That’s when he notices the silent tears on Buck’s face and he goes to dry them with his thumbs. “Buck, hey,” he pushes him. “Look at me.”
“I’m sorry, I’m a mess, I’m-” Buck wiggles away from Eddie’s embrace, fully intent on getting out of his bed, out of his hair, on taking his leave.
“No, Buck, hey- hey, stop that.” Eddie grabs his wrists, dragging him into his chest and that’s Buck’s last straw. He breaks down and cries, sobs until his eyes hurt and his face is swollen, while Eddie pats his head and combs his hair with his fingers.
“Shh, you’re okay, baby, you’re gonna be okay, I’m right here,” is one of the things Eddie finds himself babbling over and over, in the desperate attempt to help his boyfriend feel better.
Buck shakes his head. “I just-” he sniffles. “Just want a family who loves me.” Eddie holds him a bit tighter. “Why’s that too much?”
Cause you’re too much, a voice reminds him.
“I… I don’t know, Buck. Bu- but I can be that, I want to be that, for you… if you want me,” Eddie tells him. And God. This is everything he has ever dreamed of. Being chosen. Being loved. Being respected. Cherished. Accepted. Eddie’s fingers on his cheek burn. Buck wants to drown in this man, crawl into his skin. How did he get so lucky?
“Eddie, I- I- you can’t-” He’s cut off with a searing kiss that leaves him breathless.
“I know you want your parents to love you. Everyone wants that. Even I want that… but, I just,” Eddie takes a moment, as though he is really contemplating his next words. “I want to be yours, your best friend, your boyfriend, your-”
He hopes that one day he will be able to say husband and he stops.
Too fucking soon, Diaz.
“Whatever you want,” he settles on. “I love you, for real.”
tagging only the lovely @pinkpeachteay cause I’m scared of tagging people I haven’t talked to in case they think I’m weird lmao

Please please please can we get a snippet of wild winds?
Yessssss
Read Wild Winds Here!
18+ MDNI | Flirting, language, beginnings of sex aka Rafe has an oral present for Logan, season one spoilers.
Tumblr media
Logan heard the sound of a car engine before she heard the knock on the door. Part of her assumed it was JJ, back from doing whatever it was he and John B needed to go do, but as she moved quickly to the door she wasn’t surprised to see Rafe through the peephole, dressed in his tuxedo. Logan flipped the flimsy lock on the door and hauled it open, resting her hip against it as she took him in.
“A bow tie? Really?” Rafe tugged at the accessory and Logan wasn’t sure if she was impressed or amused as he slowly untied it with one hand. “And it’s not a clip on…”
Rafe scoffed, bow tie hanging undone as he ducked his head in, eyes sweeping the house, “JJ here…?”
“No,” Logan glanced over her shoulder as if to confirm that the dark and quiet house was all hers for the night, “he and John B are off doing something.”
“He was at Midsummers,” Rafe lifted his hands to undo the buttons along the points of his collar, sighing in relief when he could finally breathe just a little better. “Are you going to invite me in?”
Logan hummed, arms folded across her body as she continued to block the doorway, “I don’t know. What’d you do to JJ?”
“Nothin’,” Rafe lifted his arm to rest it on the doorframe, taking her in from head to toe, liking how soft she looked in her oversized t-shirt and shorts. “Just reminded him he was crashing and that he has a hot sister, that’s all.”
“I’ll hear that tomorrow,” Logan rolled her eyes and Rafe smirked back at her. “Is he going to tell me anything that might surprise me tomorrow?”
“Nah, Kelce roughed him up a bit, I think,” Rafe said, “but he got out without a scratch. Just a bruised ego, I’m sure.”
“Did he say why he was there?” Logan felt her face warm when she caught his eyes drifting down to stare at her bare legs.
“John B’s hookin’ up with Sarah.” Rafe tapped his knuckles against the doorframe, “So you gonna let me in…?
“John B and Sarah?”
“That’s what Topper says,” Rafe lifted a shoulder, “I don’t know. Topper’s pretty pissed off, wanted me to ride with him to try to find them or something.”
“And you said no?”
Rafe ducked his head to better see her, his eyes searching hers, “It’s bad enough I had to go to this shit tonight, you think I’m gonna miss comin’ here after just to get in the middle of Topper’s shit?”
Logan took a step back, hand reaching out to push the door the rest of the way open, watching Rafe step into the house before closing the door behind him. She’d been getting ready for bed, a handful of candles on throughout the house to help it not feel so lonely and as she stepped around Rafe to move to the kitchen, he caught her around her waist and pulled her into him.
His forehead met hers and Logan stared into his eyes, her heart beating harder in her chest when he whispered, “Happy Birthday, Lo.”
“Thank you,” Logan lifted her hand to smooth down his tuxedo shirt, fingers brushing across the pearled buttons.
“Did you have a good night?”
“Amy treated me to a nail date,” Logan lifted her hand and Rafe glanced down at it, his hand taking hers to inspect the fresh color, not willing to admit how his body instantly responded to her black French tips as he imagined how they'd look wrapped around him, “and then we had some pizza on the dock.”
“Mmm,” Rafe leaned down to kiss her knuckles before he slowly brought her into his arms, hands running down her arms and sides. “Sounds better than my night…”
“What’d they have at the club?” Logan unbuttoned the first few buttons to his crisp shirt, enough she could scratch at his bare skin, sending goosebumps down his body.
“I don’t know, didn’t eat,” Rafe looped his arms loosely around her, gently walking her around the couch towards the hallway, “thought I’d have some cake with you.”
“I don’t have any…”
Rafe cut her off with a slow kiss, hand flattening out at the small of her back before he lifted his other to cup her jaw, the couple pausing halfway down the hall as Rafe turned and pressed her into the wall, his mouth moving from hers down her throat, tugging at the stretched out collar of the shirt she wore to kiss her collarbones, hands fisting the material as he mouthed his way down her covered chest and stomach, the man in front of her getting to his knees.
He pushed her shirt upwards, kissing the soft skin of her stomach and hips, tongue dipping into her bellybutton as he hooked his index fingers into the band of her shorts, his lips chasing the band as he pulled it down until the material pooled at her ankles.
“Found some,” Rafe’s breath fanned out across her, Logan sighing as she leaned heavily against the wall, her fingers gliding into his hair as he pressed a very light kiss to the space between her legs, glancing up to meet her eyes as he dove in, his own groan rolling into her after his tongue when she tugged on his gelled stands, “pull it harder, baby—tell me how you want it, birthday girl.”

Guess who wrote all that before watching ep 17! Guess who immediately had to write more after watching episode 17 and drying my tears! Which I suppose makes this snippet for @echo-story as well^^ Just like last time I'm still taking prompts! Unlikely last time I will actually move on to the prompts people have sent already 💜
Since he showed the scars on his back at the gates to Kunlun mountain, Zhao Yuanzhou has never once tried to hide them. He has also not breathed a word about them since that they, simply acting like they are not there at all.
Eight scars.
Eigh long years.
Those same eight years have left their marks on Yichen, but all those marks were left against his will, not by choice. To choose that reminder, not once but many times? Zhou Yichen wonders at the strength behind that, fears for the pain behind that.
Words are hard for him, always have been, but he hopes that his actions have at least shown that he is willing to accept, even if forgiveness is not (not yet) something he can offer. As they prepare for bed he catches another glimpse of those scars, this time in a mirror behind Zhao Yuanzhou, and he cannot help but stare. (Preparing for bed tonight involves fighting off repeated attempts at teasing kisses, as they have better things to do tonight than playing around– tomorrow will be an ungodly early start, and Zhao Yuanzhou is hard enough to wake even after sunrise. Only threats of dunking iced water on him to wake him tomorrow have made him cease his bothering. Which of course means that he is now trying to tempt Yichen to continue what he just made Zhao Yuanzhou stop doing.)
"Enjoying the view, Xiao Zhuo-daren?" Zhao Yuanzhou teases, probably assuming Yichen is staring at his indecently uncovered chest instead of his back. He is in his inner robe, just barely, draping it from one shoulder in an impractical fashion he probably thinks is alluring. Yichen will not be admitting that he is right. Few things escape the demon's notice, and for anything else Yichen would assume he was posing in front of the mirror on purpose as well. But not for those scars.
"No," he answers absently, and gets to see Zhao Yuanzhou pout in a way that is more adorable than he has any right to be. He turns a shoulder to him when Zhou Yichen steps close, pretending that his answer hurt him. It gives Yichen the opening he needs, and he wraps an arm around the demon's waist to pull him close, his naked back close to Yichen's chest, the heat of him obvious even through Zhou Yichen's clothing.
"Don't think that I will forgive you so easily, daren–" his breath freezes in his mouth in a quiet gasp when Zhou Yichen leans in close and presses his lips, his acceptance, against the closest scar he can reach. Under his lips the skin is heated, the texture of the scar unusually smooth against the demon's already smooth skin. He bites the small ridge of it, softly tests it with his teeth, and is rewarded with another gasp from Zhao Yuanzhou.
"Zhou Yichen-!"
"Tell me to stop," he murmurs, an earnest offer. He's not even sure what he's doing, why the evidence of his demon's repentance pulls on him with such force, but he doesn't want to harm Zhao Yuanzhou– not this night. Absentmindedly he moves down the scar, alternating bites and kisses, receiving more little sounds from Zhao Yuanzhou in return. No request to stop follows. Those soft little sighs are his only answer.
Zhou Yichen takes it as acceptance.
ZYZ + ZYC = 20. Kiss on a scar ♥️
Amazing choice, thank you! This one went a little maudling...
I'm still taking prompts! You can find the full list here, or feel free to make up a fun addition to the list~
Zhao Yuanzhou forgets at times how easily humans scar. How they carry the visual, visceral evidence of their defeats or their victories on their bodies for the entirety of their short lifespans. He shudders at the thought: if one had to wear one's scars for life, at his age he might be covered in scars. It's probably for the best he can heal himself as well as he can.
Next to him on the bed Zhou Yichen sleeps on, unaware he is being watched so carefully. He claims he sleeps better when someone is with him, and to his credit Zhao Yuanzhou hasn't seen him have any nightmares on any of the nights they spent together. If he makes sure to thoroughly exhaust Zhou Yichen before he falls asleep, well, one does what one must to help a friend avoid nightmares.
The sweat they worked up together has since dried on Yichen's skin, but the smell of them still lingers in the room. These quiet moments feel like a luxury, and he would wake Yichen to share the moment, but waking him would break the moment too, and Yichen would not appreciate being woken for anything other than an emergency.
So Zhao Yuanzhou luxuriates in the peace alone, remembering the scars that cross Yichen's shoulders, the one round arrow scar next to his navel, the barely-visible scars on his hands. To say Zhou Yichen isn't self conscious about them would be a lie, but he forgets to hide himself between moans and sighs as they spend an evening in each other's company. It is only afterwards that he remembers, and they both pretend Zhao Yuanzhou hasn't long seen the past Yichen carries with him on his skin, like he didn't kiss the same expanse of flesh moments or hours ago.
Zhou Yichen rolls onto his side, his back now to Zhao Yuanzhou. Normally Zhao Yuanzhou would take this opportunity to lie down beside him, to pull him close, and fit them together in a way that will help him trap Yichen in bed come morning. Tonight, instead, he sits up, leaning on one hand as he reaches out and slides Yichen's shirt off his shoulder.
Lean muscles shrug in response to the cold, but Zhou Yichen doesn't wake. Instead he curls in on himself, pushing his back closer to Zhao Yuanzhou's warmth. In the moonlight the visible scars gleam like pearls, like treasures instead of imperfections.
Zhao Yuanzhou can't help himself– and why should he? He is a demon, after all. He leans in close, running a hand under Yichen's arm and to his chest to hold him in place (to hold him close), and presses a soft trail of kisses along one ridged scar, and down another. Zhou Yichen stirs, but wakes only slowly. Still languid from their earlier efforts, he only moves far enough to open one eye and stare balefully but sleepily and Zhao Yuanzhou.
"What are you doing, you ridiculous demon?"
"Hmm, I'm having my wicked way with you, can't you tell, Xiao Zhuo-daren?" Zhao Yuanzhou teases, lips barely releasing the marked skin under them to form the words.
"Why do you like them so much?" Yichen doesn't even respond to the teasing. It's no fun, except for the fact that Zhao Yuanzhou vividly remembers how he caused his current exhaustion. He finally relents his kisses, and settles down with his chest to Yichen's back, head propped up on one arm to lean over him- to be able to kiss him properly.
"I find it fascinating, the way you humans carry your past with you."
Judging by his frown, Yichen is not moved by his kiss. "And must you enact this fascination in the middle of the night?"
"Would you prefer I do it during the day instead?" He replies in mock-surprise. They both know the answer to that, and Yichen pulls him into a rough kiss just to shut him up.
"No. Now sleep, you great ape."

I'm once again thinking about the missed opportunities to have Klaus and Kol bond more. Part of Klaus' whole motivation as a vampire is to get his werewolf part back and to finally be stronger than Mikael (sort of, I'm simplifying) both of which can be obtained by breaking his curse. But Kol? Kol is the only other original that can relate to having a fundamental part of themself ripped away from them. Klaus might not have known he was a werewolf until he killed, but he likely still had a connection he couldn't explain, as evident by him going to watch the wolves transform. And something he'd never been able to explain was now gone. He might only be able to realise the connection afterwards through its absence.
Kol though. Kol had grown up with magic, a connection to nature and the world around him in a way the rest of his siblings supposedly didn't have. And then he gets turned. And not only has his baby brother died, his father has just murdered him and the rest of his siblings after forcing them to drink human blood, which he'll later learn. Now, not only does he have to deal with the grief of Henrik's death and also his own but also the loss of his magic. A loss that's likely only worsened by Kol being a self-proclaimed child prodigy.
Kol is pretty much the only one who could understand what Klaus is going through with the binding of his wolf. We know Kol searched for ways to get his magic back/carry on practicing magic in the same way that Klaus was looking for ways to break his curse. While Klaus likely could still feel his wolf there despite being bound, Kol has no access to his magic anymore. I just think they should've been able to bond or connect over their shared loss of an intrinsic aspect of their selves at the hands of their parents
#TVD#The Mikaelsons#Kol Mikaelson#Klaus Mikaelson#briefly back on my the originals shouldve gotten to be a family goddammit and as someone from a big family im personally offended bs#i did right a lil snippet about them bonding over this that i havent posted yet for the joml verse but still think its an unexplored concep#need more witch!kol acknowledgement honestly. just need more content of my boy#anyway. klaus having a fascination with the moon and kol telling him about celestial events and how it affects his magic when theyre boys#klaus losing that connection to the moon feeling lost & extra tempermental feeling his wolf claw at its binds and vowing to break his curse#kol determined to get his magic back at any cost relating to that devasting loss and promising to help him find a loophole for his curse#kol who becomes extra reckless and determined when he learns that theres a way to break klaus' curse so maybe he can get his magic back too#that knowledge and recklessness combined with his loss of magic driving him to become the volatile vampire that we see#that leads to him being daggered repeatedly but that first time breaks something in that bond between him & klaus that never fully recovers#it makes him bitter and resentful only fueling his reckless behaviour particularly when there seems to be no leads on reclaiming his magic#that he becomes distant from his siblings in the process especially with finn still daggered but that distance only cements the idea#to his siblings that hes a danger and cant be trusted that he needs to be daggered if theyre to stay safe from mikael#the loss of his magic leading to his spiral as a vampire and him being ostracised by his family > actual tvdu kol canon#klaus being trapped in a room staring at the corpse of his little brother knowing he never repaired that relationship with him#and now he never can so he refuses to look away as penance and a reminder of his failings to his little brother#*edit: one of the reblogs on this post is the author of big bad wolf and honestly she does an amazing job at portraying the mikaelsons#as actual siblings if you havent read it its one of my favourites for characterisations but we need more 😭 i want it to be the norm

Voted for Bumble bc of course but also if you think Alex would not pspsps Bumble you are wrong. If they could communicate they would go to therapy together /s
If then could communicate they would go to therapy together
/GEN
Kyle/Green Lantern resurrects her but then he becomes convinced that she's not the same person she was before the incident, OR SOMETHING SOMETHING Black Lanterns aren't ACTUALLY bad they're just misunderstood Grim Reaper types, in either case Alex ends up breaking it off with Kyle because they've become very different people.
And then Bumble's there
And then they go to therapy or Alex adopts Bumble, and then uhhh Bumble's like one of the superpets. Like Krypto the Superdog. Free premise go forth and play with it if ur a DC fan
#bone babble#Again I don't actually know a lot about the DC universe besides what my friend tells me#But also from reading into the Black Lanterns having them be evil sound like a WHOLE wasted opportunity#Lanterns are supposed to be emotions yeah? so why the hell are we downplaying the emotion of GRIEF?#There's a whole lot you could do with that actually. Death doesn't deserve to just be a villain of the week#And hell. You could explore some WILD emotions here about Alex becoming so much more than Kyle's tragedy#Can I still mourn you when you aren't dead?#What does it mean for me that the worst thing that ever happened to me has become an opportunity for her?#And... does this make me selfish for not being happy for her?#For not trying to understand the person she has become? for only thinking of how this impacts myself#RE: THIS IS NOT A DIG AT DC FANS#BUT I want to share that like... a reason I've kinda had a hard time getting into comics is because like... really interesting premises--#like that often get turned into Monster-of-the-Week struggles for the heroes to punch into submission#I've probably just seen really bad summaries or not found the editions that would appeal to me specifically#But it's kinda why the only DC hero I'm really interested in is Superman#Because a lot of his thing is that he's a good GUY#And that creates a lot of interesting moral questions#Like YES he's a good guy. YES he has no ulterior motive. But what if he DID?-- how can EVERYONE ELSE in the universe truly know that-#for sure?#And that's cool and I really like the snippets I've seen especially between him and batman#But anyway. so much fridging and misogyny in the world of comics has kinda turned me away from getting into it#because. VERY often. Misogyny can be... *tied* to a bit of a lack of imagination. Or empathy on behalf of a particular writer#RE: There is good stuff in DC PLEASE understand im not trying to be insulting

anyway because the inspiration and oneshot list grows every day here’s the updated list, in no particular order (all rayllum focused unless stated otherwise)
non rayllum
less: Claudia learns from Viren that Rayla was the one who killed him. She looks back on her decision to hand over the coins in a new light. Terry POV, Terry/Claudia, angst
pre-s4 (set during timeskip)
a frightening thought: Soren thinks he may be falling in love with Corvus. This is a problem for more reasons than one. Soren&Callum with equal Sorvus and Rayllum focus
Breathtaking: Ezran visits the Storm Spire three times. Callum does not.
i think i am finally clean: Rayla decides to go back to Katolis.
during s4
blink and you miss it (ch2-4; angst, hurt/comfort, some fluff)
i’d kill just to watch as you’re sleeping (ch2): Rayla tends to Callum post-possession until he wakes up, and a little bit afterwards. Also features Rayla&Zubeia talks (in between 4x04 and 4x05)
still left with his hands (ch3): Dolling out bedrolls in the Drakewood is easier said than awkwardly done. Missing scene from 4x05
i fell onto love like a sword (ch4): Thoughts once Callum comes back to rest after their “you need to kill me” conversation in 4x07.
post-s4
The Snitch: Ezran acts as Stella’s translator and Callum learns a little more about just how much Rayla loves him. Fluff
and if you find me, will you know me?: Callum finds out why Soren and Rayla were separated in the Drakewood, and Rayla has some reckoning to do. Angst hurt/comfort
out damned spot: Callum finally learns why Rayla came back and wishes he hadn’t. Angst, hurt/comfort
(you’re) a crisis of my faith: As Stella’s connection to the Star arcanum grows, Rayla is haunted by dreams of the lives she could’ve had in contrast to the one she does. Possible three-shot depending on length
speculative s5
(this fall) might just kill me: At Rayla’s prompting, Callum goes to the Sunfire elves to attempt to purify himself from dark magic. It doesn’t go as planned. [Fluffier than it sounds I promise]
i could dive so deep i never come out: Season five, featuring talks and Callum and Rayla on a boat. Fluff, hurt/comfort co-written with thosefiveadoraburrs
if it’s not you, it’s not anyone: Their Tidebound elf guide is a little too friendly towards Rayla. Callum doesn’t know how to feel about it, never mind what to do about it. co-written with thosefiveadoraburrs

About 400 words written today -- still in Read Book mode today but hit the point where the books were driving me crazy and I remembered why I was two books behind on this series, which I've been doing a full reread of. I am now one book behind on this series but hey. I probably do need a change of pace after going through seven books in three days. (And I went through the first five books last month and had to take a break because because those are the five that were written before the series went off the rails in what is, frankly, one of the most blatant bait-and-switches I've ever seen and which I really resent as a reader. Though obviously I kept reading.)

“Do you think we'd be lovers in every universe?”
“But of course, McCoy my love.”
but that was simply a lie coated in sugar to hide his motives from McCoy. Of course he didn't think so, and he'd hate if they were.
