You know, I often watch bad movies and read bad books on purpose so I can criticize them or laugh at them or both. Besides the unintentional hilarity of "so bad it's good" media, I enjoy the intellectual challenge of picking apart why something doesn't work and how it could be better. I've reviewed live-action remakes of animation several times before, and of course on this blog I've talked at length about my issues with HTTYD: THW.

But the live-action HTTYD is too much even for me. Even if I were to pirate it to avoid shelling out for a movie ticket, it's just so gross (both artistically and visually/literally) that I don't think I could make it through the first five minutes without throwing up.

I still have some morbid curiosity about plot changes and the like, so I'll keep an eye out for other people's reviews. But rather than watching it myself, I think I'll re-watch HTTYD 2 and try to analyze that instead -- I haven't watched it beginning to end since its initial release in 2014, so I'm sure I'll notice more and interpret things differently now as an adult.

So. Liveblog and/or review coming within the next couple months? Stay tuned...

its been bugging me for a while and i do think its weird that you can only buy anime on bluray. i see the "if you dont want physical media to disappear then buy physical media!" posts and yeah i sure would like to. even with the insane shipping cost i would. and i do have an older type laptop that still has a dvd player. cant play bluray tho. i checked and bluray players are expensive + my rental doesnt have a tv. so what now? i just spend a huge amount of money to have physical media that i can never watch? when did bluray even become the norm? i want to support and own the art i love and my options are exploitative rancid streaming service (which may also remove it anytime) or costly unplayable disks. they quite literally leave no choice for me but to pirate it even when i'd be willing to pay and i think thats wild
