Tip for non Hispanic ppl writing Spanglish
*I initially wrote this at 1 am so like, keep that in mind as you decipher this lol
*context is key when speaking Spanglish, if your character is in a professional setting they probably won’t speak Spanglish unless it’s to a fellow co worker who also speaks Spanglish. It’s more of a casual way a speaking yk?
Also parents, I avoid Spanglish with my parents unless we’re switching from just speaking Spanish to just speaking English. But that’s depends from family to family.
It’s typically like switching sentences and not dropping in random words.
Example “ es Que fui a la tienda, and they were out of milk”
Example “ te ves cansada, did you sleep last night?”
“La neta” is and extremely common Mexican slang term, typically means, honestly. It can also be used to mean ‘really?’
Honestly example:
“La neta, Im tired”
Or “La neta, estoy cansada. Im going to bed”
In the case it means “really?”:
ex.) “Neta?! They said that?!”
I personally say “ de que” which is basically saying “like”, it’s a filled term, before saying a sentence in either English or Spanish
example “ de que idk it won’t work”
I’m Mexican so I use “ósea” a lot in both languages. Another substitute for words like:
“I mean,” “it'd be,” ”like,” “so,” “that is,” “therefore,” and “or.”
Ex. “ ósea, it looks weird idk”
The famous “ pero like” I personally don’t use a lot but an example of how it’s used in Spanglish is “ pero like, how did it happen?”
Sometimes I Just say “ fuck” but like in my Mexican accent or in a sentence.
“ fuck, perdí mi pulsera”
When I get startled I cuss in both English and Spanish but a Spanglish example would be
*insert random startling noise
“ ala verga! That scared me” or “ hijo de tu puta madre!” when something REALLY scared the shit out of me lol
“Chingada madre, where did that come from”
Rlly insert any cuss word in there and it probably works in Spanglish.
Edit bc I thought of this the morning after
In Mexican Spanish for whatever reason the word “madre” can be used like kinda like a cuss word lol.
Example “ Me vale madres”
Which in English would translate to “I don’t value mothers” but in practice means “I don’t give a shit” or “I don’t care”.
Another Mexican deep cut is the word “pedo” which yes, means fart but we’ve really given the word so many alternative meanings like
“ no es mi pedo “ = “not my problem”
“Estoy bien pedo” = “in rlly drunk”
“Vas a la peda?” = “ are you going to the party/kickback”
There’s more but that’s like the basics lol.
Also another Mexican term is “Aguas”… which literally translates to “waters” but it’s used as a warning.
“Aguas, there’s car coming”
The most famous of Mexican slang has to be “wey” or “guey” depends on how you spell it. But it just means dude. Another term that goes in hand is, “no mames” which basically means “are you kidding me”.
*men for whatever reason hate when the girl they’re dating or are into calls them wey. I think it’s because it’s seen as either improper or as like friend zoning.
“Wey, you’re not gonna believe this”
“No mames wey, look at this”
Another term is “equis” which basically means whatever
“How was the party?”
“Estuvo equis”
Another example
“ now was she dressed?”
“Equis, nothing crazy nothing wow”
*I recommend for Mexican characters looking into the words, or you can just ask me I just don’t wanna make this longer than I already have lol, “mamar”/“mamo”/“mamon”, each you would think is the same but no, no they are not and using one in the wrong context could be catastrophic lol. They are vital words to our vocab
If you’re writing to a character from a specific country, take the time to learn some slang. Sometimes slang crosses over, sometimes even we use slang we learn from each others dialects. Personally I love “joder”/“no jodas” because of the shows from Spain.
But take the time because if you write a Colombian character using most of the slang I’ve used above, you’d get a lot of hate from Colombians lol.
Some bad Spanglish examples would be
“ why didnt you eat your comida?”
Like no. Just no. Inserting a random Spanish word doesn’t equate to Spanglish, at least not in most Latin peoples lives
“ you look cansada” also just no.
*Edit I saw someone post abt this and I felt like adding it in
If you do insert a random Spanish word or vice versa it’s because you forgot the word but that involves a lot of blanking and being annoyed you can’t dig the simplest word out of you sub conscience lol
Example: “ you look, FUCK what’s the word! You know when you’re cansada…TIRED. You look tired”
Another commenter addition I’ll be adding is using “eh” as a filler instead of “um”. I use both but even in English I default to using “eh” or “ehmmmm”
The worst is when you don’t remember the word, only to have it appear in your subconscious hours later lol
Another fav filler word is “deste” which equates to another more Central American term “vaina” but a less refined way of saying it. Essentially they mean “thing” but that thing can be anything. It’s kinda a word when you’re to lazy to say the actual word.
“Pásame el deste”
*passes them x ítem
“No I meant the remote”
*trying not to kill the person because they could’ve said remote the whole time but chose not to
Sometimes we use bad Spanglish on purpose just to be funny
“Que sad” “Que cute”
* i personally love inserting the word cute into my vocab in Spanish just cuz so to each their own
Something I do is like say something in English and immediately say the exact same thing in Spanish. Or like I’ll say an exclamation in one language then end in the other.
“ GO GO GO, VÁMONOS APÚRATE”
“Que asco, gross”
“WOW, que bueno”
Also if you’re writing like couples tbh nicknames in Spanish would be reserved for when you’re speaking in Spanish and same for English, but each couple is different so if you rlly want to leave a nickname in Spanish in go for it. If you rlly want the endearment to be “ mi amor” please remember that after like the first or second time the Spanish speaker would probably just refer to their S/O as “ amor” or switch between the two.
Which brings me to the terms “mami/mamita” and “papi/papito”. Now, while they Can and are by some used in a sexual manner, they can also be used as general terms of endearment. My mom will sometimes call me mamita or my brother papito.
Amongst couples though it’s just kinda said, I saw someone describe it was you just give motherly energy so “mami” is said lol which I get oddly enough.
Once a couple is well established or just comfortable the woman can refer to her S/O as “ viejo” which is old man lol, but it’s like cute. On the flip side idk it’s typically seen as offensive when a man calls his S/O “vieja” but that depends on culture to culture.
Again mami and papi don’t have to be sexual but can be.
Another simple thing you can do is look up nicknames for certain names.
Examples:
“Mike” pronounced “Mique” for Miguel. Some people like to use “Mickey”, that gained popularity from an old Mexican singer lol.
“Ponchó” For Alfonso
“Ale” Can be used for Alejandro/Alexandra/Alejandra
Another thing I thought of is amongst siblings when referring to our parents we will say like
“Haz visto a mi mamá”
Which means have you seen “my mom” even though she’s both our mom… idk it’s weird but a nice little touch you could add to your writing lol
I get rlly annoyed reading bad Spanglish, sometimes it’s just painfully cringe and just obvious a non Spanish speaker wrote it, and I realize it’s bc most of y’all didnt grow up with it so like this is just what is typical Spanglish most Hispanic ppl grow up speaking, obviously not everyone speaks like this but figured I’d give tips from someone who actually speaks English and Spanish and switches between.
If I missed anything feel free to add on or if you disagree add examples

I've noticed you tend to post about how you are not a big fan of the heartstopper show and its casting and I was wondering if you could give some insight into why you don't like the show very much? Everyone is allowed to have their own opinions but I was just wondering? Wanting to see your pov on this. Not trying to send hate whatsoever!! 💜
Well personally I feel like the show kinda watered down the characters… Charlie specifically. In the comic Charlie is very confident and pretty popular guy- not like nick Nelson popular but he’s well liked yk? But in the show he seems to sorta get more put down by Harry and his friends.. I wish we saw Charlie sticking up for himself rather than tao do it for him.
UGH SPEAKING OF TAO. literally what happened?? In the comic he seems pretty protective over his friends but in the show BRO IS OBSESSED.. Like I get your gay friend has fallen for a "straight guy" but that’s none of your business!! Also assuming ppls sexualities but ur the token straight ally?? Right… also he blames Charlie at the end for what happened with Harry as if he wasn’t the one creating more drama. Overall I HATEE show tao. I also DIDNT appreciate the fact that elle outed nick.. like girl.
The only characters I actually enjoyed were tara, Darcy, tori and the teacher. Even I was disappointed with Nick.. like the show allowed a whole ass slur but not a "happy fucking birthday." ??? What the fuck??? Nick just seem more soft in the show and I didn’t like it.
moving on to the casting… Nick is fat, kit Connor is not.. Charlie and tori are Spanish and well, jenny and Joe are pale ASFF!! (And yes ik Spain is very diverse but this isn’t the point of this post) And ppl always hate when I bring this up but idc. YES IK THEM BEING SPANISH ISNT A BIG DEAL IN HEARTSTOPPER BUT ITS STILL PART OF THEIR CHARACTERS!!/!/!/$:$
Anyway… um. Joe locke and Charlie do NOT look alike like whatsoever. Jenny is a little bit better but why would they srsly cast a grown woman in her late 20’s to play a young 15 yr old teenage girl.. this is not the 2000’s we don’t need 30 year olds playing teens anymore thanks! Back to nick, like I said nick is fat. He’s a chubby man. Yet he’s played by a kinda skinny-buff guy.. ik kit is like making it up by working out to gain weight but now nick nelson is gonna be a buff guy. Which in the comic he is buff ik that but he’s also chubbyyy!!!!
Oh my god tao. Again WITH TAO. WHY WOULD A TALL GUY TO PLAY TINY TAOOO… bro. USGSHSJSU. AND THAT AWFUL HAIR IM SO GLAD THEY CHANGED IT.
Dracy got an okay cast, although Kizzy doesn’t have that long pointy head shape irdc lol. And same for Darcy, I think corrina was a good match for Tara
I think I’m gonna stop here bc I don’t wanna get attacked even more than I probably will, sooo!! Anyway I hope this answered ur question!!

okay so keep in mind i was a rma fan who didn't really follow psg or kylian until the world cup so i was only getting the salty rma fan perspective on kylian which was that all his teammates hate him because he's arrogant and blablabla.
people were saying that ramos hated mbappe because he disrespected messi and basically the narrative was that kylian was so arrogant and rude that ramos sided with his "old nemesis" messi over him and was getting payback for him by bullying him. it all sounds ridiculous now that i say it but the kylian hate was so popular that i never even questioned it. i tried to find some of the clips. there's probably more but idk what to type to find them.
this is the main clip that was used. he shouldered him at training and people were saying it was revenge for "disrespecting messi" https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMYobXvQW/
this one ramos is "choking" him and messi is laughing at it and people were saying he was threatening kylian and that messi was happy about it. it sounds so stupid as im typing it but it sounded more believable when you only hear about kylian through spanish media https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMYog8HQ7/
the first clip from this video they were just saying he's bullying him because he doesn't like him. i hadn't seen the other clips where they're laughing just the first one where he's "kicking him" and mbappe looks mad  https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMYogfsQy/
same thing with this one https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMYogSRSR/
anyway i was dumb for believing that but in my defense a lot of people who didn't follow them enough to know about their friendship thought he hated kylian too. to end on a positive note, here's a cute clip I found while looking for those of kylian running across the whole field to jump in his arms :) https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMYogemTu
o m f g
ANON THANK U SO MUCH FOR THIS IM DYING OF LAUGHTER 😭💀. i already knew how bad the spanish media tried to portray mbappe but i didn't think they took him being treated like a little brother to mean ramos or messi hates him. or that they'd attack him for literally just standing there. damn they should never see how my brother and i rough house then... like all the clips r just them having fun it's insane 💀💀.
as a fellow rma fan how were any of the clips different to him annoying ozil, marcelo, modrić, and pepe in rma training (or torres/pique on intnl break)💀💀. some ppl are so fucking gullible (good thing u realized ur mistake anon!). "revenge for messi" be soooo fucking fr rn😭😭. messi and ramos r both too grown and too solidified in their careers for that type of petty bs. it hurts me as a ramos fan to see those types of things bc like?? is this how u (general u not u anon) remember our capi?? as a bully of young players on his team?? as someone who doesn't make a safe environment for his team?? it's honestly an insult to the legacy he's built at rma.
Tumblr media
oh man but the comment section in some of those vids do NOT pass the vibe check. a good rule of thumb that i use to navigate media is the second i see mostly racist comments or comments w racial undertones (especially if it's about black/immigrant athletes) i do my own research. saves me a LOT of trouble w rumors and media lololol. i also ask the questions: where is their source coming from? how old are these men to be acting like this? should i be taking facts from a country (england, spain, france, etc.) who's known to let racism and bias run rampant in leagues, media, and officials? and finally the most important question:
is this an opinion a cis male football fan would agree with?
anyways to end this on a positive note thank you for the comedic material! and for reminding me that the hug exists.

OKAY HI FIRST OF ALL ANOTHER AUTISTIC PERSON WHO LIKES NSR THAT'S REALLY COOL BUT ALSO I SAW YOUR POST ABOUT SMALL DIFFERENCES IN JP NSR DUBBAND I WANTED TO DO ALSO SMALL COMPARING BUT WITH ( god forgive me ) RUS TRANSLATION.....
uh just before I start, i am a native speaker of russian ( though not russian myself ) and it's...sucks in general ? it's not good. mid at best but it has some moments ( not all ) i want to point out . so,
first of all, due to avoiding swears ( bc in rssian , you can't escape them so easily as ppl do in english ) characters can sound a little bit ruder than in english, like tatiana calling mayday an impudent girl ( more correctly would translate as a brat ) or outright idiots and stupid after the battle with her.
second, when kliff notices goolings poster and they talk about kul fyra, zuke first says that instead of can of worms, kliff opened a pandora box. oh and also mayday says she adores kliff here. and he calls her my dear ( I think that's the closest thing i could think of as to translate. He also means it in platonic way. They only good thing out of this translation / j). and also they butchered the sayus and yinus names. the more correct way to say sayu in rssian i think would be сайю but they just wrote it as it sounds ( саю ) . same with yinu ( йину - more correct imo and ину as they wrote it there. )not a big deal but it annoys me </3
that's not all but pretty much some of the parts my sleep deprived brain could think of so yeah !!
THANK YOU FOR THE INFO 🙏🙏🙏 will store this in my mind
ALSO !!!! that reminds me that . the spanish dub of nsr isnt that good either ?? 😭 it might be because im mexican and i speak in latin american spanish (? i think thats the name) and the nsr dub is in SPAIN spanish. it really bugged me to the point i couldnt even finish sayu because her accent BUGGED me so bad. also, in the djss fight they kept.. talking over eachother and i think it would also happen in the other cutscenes if it happened in djss'? but also i didnt get that far.

question! i think the kingdom of aragon and catalunya/catalan countries were together histrically, right? let's say (hopefully in the near future lol) spain dies and the catalan countries became a country, would aragon be included, or be independent alltogether? i must say i've never seen an independent/nationalist movement for aragon, but perhaps it's bc i've never interacted with aragonese ppl
yes, historically, the kingdoms of aragon, majorca, and valencia, and the principality of catalonia made up the crown of aragon in what is currently the spanish state, with the kingdoms of corsica, naples, and sicily also making up the kingdom for a good chunk of its existence.
the thing is that many aragonese people feel iffy with the terms catalan countries, because it includes the aragonese parts of la franja that speak catalan (and "takes them away" from aragon). i do think its a good term for catalan speakers to feel unity, because we do need it, but i dont believe it would work out as a political entity. if independence of any kind is (hopefully) ever achieved, it would be catalunya on one part, and aragon on another, ideally with a sort of union between us (and the valencian country, balearic islands, etc), because god knows we fucking need it. i also have to clear up that many of the reasons that aragonese people dont like the term "catalan countries" is because, you guessed it, anti-catalanism! so in order for a more widespread nationalist movement in aragon, i think many people would have to get over that first, because many times people compare any type of independentists to catalan ones, as if it was a bad thing.
im not surprised you havent encountered the aragonese independence movement, its quite a small movement, and even within aragon it isnt extremely welcomed, people have given in to the main culture in the spanish state, i guess. the main independentist parties i can think of off the top of my head is puyalón de cuchas (which is, btw a terrible translation from aragonese meaning "leftist uprising" or "leftist rise". when it literally translates to "uphill of the left hand") and purna. for one of the sort of fathers of the modern aragonese independentist movement, there is gaspar torrente, who founded estado aragonés in 1933. the modern party estau aragonés takes its name from there.

i’ve came across ur page a couple months ago and im finding it so educational and fascinating so first of all thank you for all u r sharing! now i have a question about catalan history if thats okay, i came across a post from u from a year ago or so that explains a bit why ppl from catalonia dont consider themselves spanish (being invaded and so on) but from what i read when i was in school, spain became kind of what is today bc of a marriage between the queen of castilla and king of aragon? could u point me in the right direction to learn more about spanish and catalonian history bc the last thing i want is to be disrespectful and im starting to think that i read was v biased and generally i just would like to leant more about the peninsulas history. again, thank u sm for everything u are sharing!
Thank you very much!
What you heard is true but only partially.
There are two moments that can be considered the "birth" of Spain, though the one you mention had less historical significance at the time it happened, it is more of a symbolic moment, while the one I was referring to in that post is the moment when Catalonia-Aragon stopped being independent for real.
Moment 1: the Catholic Kings
The first is the one you mention: the marriage between Isabela of Castile and Ferdinand of Aragon (known as the Catholic Kings) in 1469. This marriage means that both kingdoms (Castile and Catalonia-Aragon's confederacy of kingdoms) united their monarchy in one king.
This marriage is called a personal union. This is how Wikipedia defines it:
A personal union is the combination of two or more states that have the same monarch while their boundaries, laws, and interests remain distinct.
A real union, by contrast, would involve the constituent states being to some extent interlinked, such as by sharing some limited governmental institutions. Unlike the personal union, in a federation and a unitary state, a central (federal) government spanning all member states exists, with the degree of self-governance distinguishing the two.
This was a personal union, not a real union. So each kingdom was still independent. Think for example how England, Canada, and Australia have the same monarchy nowadays but each of them is independent from the others.
Tumblr media
In brown, the territories of Castile. The little bit in purple in the south of the Iberian peninsula is the Kingdom of Granada, which would be conquered in the next few decades and incorporated into Castile. After Christopher Columbus's trips to America and the following colonization of the continent, the American colonies also became part of Castile (ONLY Castile, not Aragon, because they remained separate), as was stipulated by queen Isabela's will. In green, all the kingdoms of the Aragonese confederacy. It includes Aragon, Catalonia, the Kingdom of Valencia, the Kingdom of Mallorca, the Kingdom of Naples, Sicily, and Sardinia.
The kings united, forming a single monarchy. But the countries stayed independent. There was never the intention of breaking their independence, as you can see by the fact that each kingdom still kept making their laws separately, had their own laws and customs, administration, etc. This agreement is not unusual at the times: dynasties united and splinted often. It means that the king of Aragon, Castile, Naples, etc etc etc added these new titles to his title, but it did not mean the kingdoms had become one (that's why it was important to keep listing them). But it does not mean a unification, it does not mean anyone lost their independence.
This is an interesting moment, because Castile and Catalonia-Aragon had very different understandings of monarchy and power. Castile was an absolutist monarchy, which means that the king held immense power and was the one to take decisions. On the contrary, the kingdoms of Catalonia-Aragon had a parliamentary monarchy, where the king had little power and who took the real decisions and, most importantly, who had the money to make them happen, was the Courts (a parliament comprised of representatives of the nobility, the clergy, and the citizens) and later also the Generalitat, which was formed by the Courts. In fact, this practise called “pactisme” (“agreement-ism”, distribution of power) was a central element in Catalan feudalism, if not the single most important one. Castile’s absolutism was the opposite of it. The Courts stayed active between the 13th and the 18th centuries, they were dissolved after Castile's invasion of 1714.
Now, two monarchies becoming one when they have such different ways of working, different powers, and different customs in the territories they rule was bound to bring problems. In fact, the monarchy became centred on Castile, since that's where they had more power. With time, the kings understood their power more and more in the Castilian way, that they were appointed by God and should have the power to take decisions by themselves. In Catalonia-Aragon this was seen as a danger and caused revolutions, wars (such as Corpus de sang, the Reaper’s War, the 1641 Catalan Republic, or the War of the Brotherhoods) and political confrontation with the Courts. Castile was slowly trying to impose their model based on a centralized absolutist power as the same time as they became an imperial global superpower. Despite their insistences, the kingdoms were still independent both de jure and de facto, with their own Constitutions, laws, etc.
The marriage of the Catholic Kings, as seen, was not “the birth of Spain”, because “Spain” as a state still didn’t exist. (At the time, Hispania was a geographical name that meant what we now call the Iberian Peninsula). However, this moment was used by Spanish nationalism as a “birth” moment, particularly in the 19th century’s nationalism, and it was given most importance by the education system of Franco’s fascist dictatorship, who forced all schools to teach Spanish patriotism as a subject and whose curriculum for other subjects was also heavily drawn on Spanish-Castilian supremacy.
Moment 2: the War of Spanish Succession
This is the event that led to the unification of the kingdoms and created the state of Spain.
In the year 1700, the king Charles II the Bewitched died with no heir, as a result of being highly inbred. This same reason made him be disabled in many ways, including mentally. That’s why he couldn’t take many decisions by himself and was often a puppet of his ministers.
The court saw that he would die without descendants and two sides formed:
Those who wanted Philip, Duke of Anjou. He was from the Bourbon family, in fact he was the grandson of the king of France Louis XIV. France was the most authoritative, centralist, and absolutist monarchy, so this is how the kingdoms of Spain would be ruled under him. It would be beneficial to have the House of Bourbon rule both Spain and France, which were the two biggest empires in the world. Their power would be absolute internationally. This was the side chosen by Castile.
Those who wanted the Archduke Charles of Austria, brother of the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire (aka Germany and its surroundings). They were from the Habsburg family, same as the king who died, so them being relatives meant he had a claim to the throne. This king vowed to keep the independence of each territory, respect their laws, customs, and languages, and keep things as they were. This was the side chosen by the Catalan-Aragonese confederacy. Other countries such as England, Portugal and the Netherlands showed support to this side too, because they wanted to avoid one single dynasty ruling most of the world, as would be the case with the Bourbons.
Right before dying, the nobles of Charles the Bewitched’s court managed to make him sign a will saying his successor would be Philip of Anjou, who then became Philip V of Castile and Philip IV of Aragon. The emperor of the Holy Roman Empire reminded the court that his family was the one who had the dynastical right to be the heirs, and so a war started.
This was soon became a desperate war to keep a political system, not only about the king. And then (especially after the Battle of Almansa in 1707) it became a war of invasion. Castile won the war, occupying all the territories and massacring populations. The war ended when Barcelona surrendered after a terrible siege on the 11th of September 1714, though technically some places resisted until 1715.
When Castile occupied each kingdom of the Catalan-Aragonese crown, they released a Decree called “Nueva Planta” (which means “New Plant”). These decrees state that the king Philip V eliminates the governments of each kingdom, and now all of them will be ruled by the laws of Castile. This means the end of the independence of all these kingdoms, the end of their administrations, their traditional laws and customs. The decrees also impose the Spanish language, the Spanish centralized monarchy, imposed Castilian gobernadores (colonial governors) in the occupied territories, forbids the Catalan-Aragonese population from things like owning knives, makes them pay taxes to cover the costs of the war, changes the names of cities to Spanish names, among many other things. We explained the decree better in this previous post.
For this reason, the War of the Spanish Succession was the moment when Spain started to exist as a political unity. Don’t take my word on it: take the world of Charles V himself. Now there was a Spain, created by the expansion of Castile.

Why was Lorenzo such a jealous bitch nd why does this fandom treat him like he's a good person😑
okay so i know that this is a rethorical question but i've actually thought about this a lot so i'll take my crack at answering this - WHY is lorenzo such a jealous bitch?
the only thing he's said about why he hates magnus - that i remember of, at least - is the line "he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. his fame is not based on talent, it's all nepotism"
now, anyone who knows anything at all about magnus knows that not a single fucking word of this is true. magnus was born poor in a recently colonized country under a lot of oppression, there was no damn silver spoon in his mouth, and after that he was thoroughly abused by his demon father. his fame is also absolutely based on talent - he invented portals, for fuck's sake! and the "nepotism" comment barely makes sense. i assume he means it's just that magnus' power is all due to the fact that his father is demon royalty, which makes magnus more powerful than most warlocks
so, that explains what lorenzo is jealous of - magnus' power and prestige among warlocks (such as having been HWoB for decades) - but not what the fuck lorenzo's deal is (i mean, we've met plenty of other warlocks in the show, many of which weren't really fans of magnus, but no one other than lorenzo has this idea that magnus doesn't deserve his fame), or why magnus (because while like, yes, magnus is very powerful, i assume he's not the only son of a prince of hell, considering asmodeus is not the only prince of hell and these guys get on the loose, like, weekly. and lorenzo is obviously OBSESSED with him, he deliberately went out of his way and abused his power as HWoB several times specifically to antagonize him, and also, you know, TRIED TO KILL HIM)
lorenzo talks about magnus almost as if magnus took something from him. it's not just that magnus is powerful and that he supposedly doesn't deserve it, lorenzo obviously feels as if antagonizing magnus is some sort of vengeance. i know plenty of jealous people, but going as far as forbidding anyone other than himself from giving magnus a magic transfusion, specifically saying that if it went wrong he wouldn't help, and then refusing to take back the magic when he KNEW perfectly well that would kill him, is to me very obviously a thought out plan TO kill magnus. lorenzo had been hoping from the start that magnus' body would reject his magic and the transfusion would kill him - why else would he specifically say, the second he agreed to the transfusion, that if it went wrong magnus would be on his own?
and it's not like lorenzo even gains anything from that, other than killing magnus. and humiliating him, which lorenzo has said explicitly was something he wanted to do (i believe the term he used was "breaking his spirit", but potato potatoh). if it was about magnus' position of power, he already had that - lorenzo literally already had the HWoB position. if it was about magnus' magic, he had already lost it. lorenzo had absolutely NOTHING to gain from magnus, so his personal vendetta against him doesn't even make sense from JUST a jealousy standpoint. he had already "won" over magnus. the only explanation is that he wanted some kind of revenge
but revenge from what? well, we know that magnus and lorenzo don't like each other, but magnus never really TOOK anything from lorenzo. considering how he wouldn't miss an opportunity to talk about how much he hated him, i think lorenzo would have brought it up if that had been the case. and magnus is just not the kind of person to pull the rug from under other people's feet - look no further than the whole show for evidence of that. he literally puts the others above himself at all times (which is unhealthy but that's another story and something i've talked about plenty of times already)
so why does lorenzo feel so much resentment towards magnus? why does he act as if magnus' power took something that was rightfully his?
i think lorenzo feels that he was entitled to be the most powerful, to have the most prestige, to be above magnus, and he resented magnus because that was simply not true
why?
let's go back to the only thing we know about lorenzo's backstory - the baby painting. yes, it's a huge meme, but think about that for a second. lorenzo has a huge ass painting of himself as a baby that he displays proudly in his home and that's, like, his #1 stop at the house tour. the baby painting. "needless to say, being born in spain during the siglo de oro was quite the experience". is the first thing he said
let's make this abundantly clear: this line makes it canon that lorenzo is a colonizer. the siglo de oro ("golden century" in spanish) started (roughly) in 1492, year of the """""discovery""""" of the americas, and ended (roughly) in 1659, the year when spain signed a treaty and lost a bunch of their territories to france (link to source). altho the term is usually used to refer to the boom of the arts in spain, it's obvious, just from these historical landmarks, that the siglo de oro is about colonization. it's about the fact that at the time spain was at its peak colonial power, and could afford to exploit what later became third world countries, and put part of that money (in fact, the literal gold they were stealing from latin american countries) into arts and other luxuries (because in the renaissance portraits were a luxury item and a symbol of status - link to source) for the ultra rich that benefited from colonization
so, lorenzo is not only a colonizer, but he's a part of the elite. the fact that his family could afford to have a painting of him as a BABY (portraits were almost exclusively adult portraits, and usually of the whole family, unless you were even richer than the rich. and even then individual portraits were usually to celebrate important achievements such as a marriage or acquisition of state - a baby being born doesn't qualify, especially because at the time most babies died not long after birth anyway), and a HUGE painting on top of that, shows that they were just. loaded in an incomprehensible way. im talking jeff bezos level of riches. they were the elite of the biggest colonial empire of their century. so, ironically, lorenzo was born with a silver spoon in his mouth - everything that he had, he was born having, and he specifically had because it was being stolen due to a dramatically violent process of genocide and slavery, that he believed to be entitled to simply because he was born a spaniard/white. that is all canon, because in the shverse mundane history is the same as in real life. EVERYONE who was born in the colonial elites was taught that they were entitled to shit from other countries, that they were superior not only to other ppls but also to their own people - let's not forget that this was way before the advent of republics, those were monarchies. the ppl who were part of the elite straight up believed they were superior to others by virtue of god
"woah woah woah but lorenzo is played by javier muñoz who's brown" yeah, which is unfortunate, but he is still canonically a colonizer. first off, because it's not like they wanted someone to be lorenzo and were looking for brown people - they were looking for someone javier could play because he's a bigshot broadway actor who was also a fan of the show, and then they picked lorenzo. probably because the sh showrunners don't fucking know the difference between a latino and a spaniard. or maybe they do, but they thought, "eh, close enough". either way, lorenzo is a spaniard, and he was born a colonizer - ergo, he is white, regardless of what race his actor is, regardless of even what he looks like. there are plenty of white spaniards with similar skin tones to lorenzo, because what today is spain used to be a territory occupied by middle eastern ppl, and there was mixing. what makes whiteness is not skin tone, it's context, and the context of being a literal colonizer directly benefitting of the oppression of black and brown people is as white as it gets
so, to recap: lorenzo was born a white colonizer, and he was RAISED believing that everything he had, he was entitled to. he was entitled to it by virtue of god, because he was born a part of the rich elite in the richest colonial power in the world, and he had access to everything he could possibly want. and he wasn't just entitled to riches and power - which he still has, look at his fucking mansion, dude - but specifically to superiority to his peers. especially black and brown people, the source of his riches, the people who owe him the wealth he takes from them
and then he joins the warlock world, and not only is he not royalty (because presumably he is the son of a regular demon, not too high up in the hierarchy) but some brown guy is. and this guy is in a position of power over him (high warlock) and he is better than him (at magic, specifically, but also at everything including being a human being, but lorenzo doesn't care about that). and lorenzo is fucking livid, because he believes himself to be entitled to be the best, entitled to be treated as a superior, entitled to admiration and to servitude, especially from people like magnus (let's not forget that the philippines - colonized by spain during the siglo de oro - are right next to indonesia [link]). instead, magnus is, politically speaking, his superior
and it's not like it even means much because the high warlock position is implied to be kind of like, the mayor, and it's not like magnus ever abused his power (unlike some people - and sidenote, i think this backstory is also why lorenzo was so comfortable using his power to antagonize magnus: because he was raised in a context where political power was pretty much boundless and politics and the personal feelings of the ruler were not separated). so in practice its really just that if lorenzo had a problem, he could go to magnus, and if magnus made a decision that referred to all warlocks, lorenzo was supposed to follow it. it's nowhere near like, actual subservience. but it's way too much for someone who was raised to be entitled to the level that lorenzo was
so that's why he has this feeling that magnus took something from him - because in his head, everything magnus has, lorenzo should be entitled to. because in his head, any and all power rightfully belongs to him, and if magnus has it, then it has been stolen. and that might not even be conscious of his part or whatever, altho i doubt lorenzo doesn't think in explicitly racist terms at least in private, but that had been ingrained into his head for centuries on end. if it's still ingrained into the heads of white spaniards born TODAY, imagine one who was actually born at the fucking height of racist exploitation
so. yeah. that's why lorenzo is such a jealous bitch. that's why he hates magnus so much - because he feels that magnus having anything at all lorenzo doesn't is theft, and ironically, he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, but believes that he earnt what he has whereas magnus didn't. it's not just jealousy, it's a profound feeling of racist vendetta, and i'm sure the sh writers didn't mean it that way, they were just writing a big villain to bring malec together, but death of the author, baby! and this explanation actually makes sense without having to change anything in canon, so, i feel very comfortable saying that's why lorenzo behaves the way he does
THIS POST IS NOT ABOUT THE BOOKS

Okay i haven’t seen the whole spaniard vs radfems thing but all i have to say is that those spanish people defending themselves and forgetting about latam 😭 and then being racist 😭 towards you 😭 shows that they don’t really care about hispanic people, just themselves. Radfem latinas are nothing like those Spanish radfems 😭 trust me hehehe, we do actually care about woc. But i do apologize in behalf of them because they’re also hispanic and you might not know who is Spanish and who is latina… (spaniards are soo racists and think that they’re marginalized, that’s why latinos don’t really like them all)
ill try to summarise tho im biased for obvious reasons but basically the lady made a post saying that school shooting jokes r necessary to make bc americans have no culture to mock, then when americans took offence and explained why, she was repeatedly dismissive. then she justified it by saying that it’s because everyone’s expected to tune in to America’s problems and be aware of america (as if Spain isn’t one of the countries that gets way more media coverage than most of us but w/e). when ppl didn’t say “oh ok i see, u hate UScentrism so school shooting jokes are necessary, makes sense!” she brought up that a latino anon doesn’t like that americans joke about weed when there’s horrible drug cartels in Latin America & was also complaining about American imperialism. and then kept saying that americans are unempathetic to issues other than their own and used them not responding to the weed discourse as proof of that. then i came in and was like uhhh but ur literally a white spaniard 💀 ur country is colonialist too and extremely racist as well etc so this is the pot calling a kettle black. and the rest… ig u saw the rest.
but ofc latinas are diff from spanish women!! also latina radfems are so hardcore most of us don’t match up to them fr

( forgot to post from my drafts ) It’s Pride🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈 and Juneteenth; 🤎🖤if anyone feels like giving reparations to someone from a very forgotten group of Afro-diaspora people; I am Afro chicano/Mexican 🇲🇽 (AfroNative ) gay & trans masc 🏳️‍⚧️ and I have autism 😬& im in diaspora & I don’t have family just relatives ; I am very much poor here (and in my motherland I ain’t got no connections like that ) my indigenous ancestry is from the southwest Texas region/ 🇲🇽 ; I’m intergeneration-ally Afro indigenous ; currently I am a free lance artist ; who is trying to become financially stable ; so I really just try my best to get by.. and I wanna use this moment to spread awareness about black peoples in Mexico ; from a poem that I wrote :🎀🌺💝💖✨
Our 2nd president was a black man who freed us from Spain; yet tell me why my peoples are still in pain? 2015 is when blackness was legally recognized; all because of your white washed ego and pride; your ego is what makes my people flee yo ; so we gotta leave to a savage place that took a word for “black” and used it to degrade us n*gros ; we go from little villages without water to getting minimum wage dollars ; distressed displaced oppressed ; thinking when we come here we gonna be blessed; only to find out weve barely stepped up; still bottom of the barrel can’t fill our cups; hyper visible ; but invisible none the less; you ignorant to think we treated any better bc we “Latinx “ Spain enslaved 80% of the slave trade thats a fact : went from being ignored ; to being criminalized for being black... who do we turn to when the people that are supposed to be our community don’t has our backs!!!!!!??Latinx is a cult by default ; it never was a race; if you act too ethnic they’ll put you in your place; if We can’t exist safely with them? Where do we go? African Americans have tend to have our backs but don’t get it twisted it tho ; xenophobia & classism is so pervasive and so is fetishization; so it causes divisions & isolation, if my people have ptsd & aren’t in they right minds; why you keep asking for them to speak all the time ? Hyper visibility was just a coy to make African Americans into the white mans toys; given you the mic so you look like a tool ; so when you speak white people think all black ppl look like we fools. They take our words coming from a place of hurt acting like it’s from god; using it the venom to manipulate others ; even when we tell them to stop. I know what they’re doing ; I know their tricks; I grew up here so I KNOW they ain’t slick ; the Spanish made the Blueprint for racism ; just because I’m an immigrant; don’t make me dumb. I know how they think ; I know when they’re in synch; both using my peoples as indentured servants is sadistic don’t you think? ; my black ancestors stolen from their motherland; now their descendants are picking fruit and selling it tourists in the side of the road to feed their fam.

do you understand spanish when you hear it? i understand english when i hear it just fine except when ppl speak too fast OR WHEN THEY'RE BRITISH LMAOOOOOOO i can't understand a word you're all saying i'm convinced it's just gibberish to fuck with me sadajskdasd i love you but why are you guys like this
it highly depends on the situation fhjdksdksz like ok so i understand enough to watch youtube in spanish right. but then sometimes when i watch documentaries in spanish and its just normal ppl talking to each other without a mic its hard to understand. just noises and the rolled rrrrr and it’s so fkn fast 😭 and theres sooo many different words for the same thing bc of the different dialects and countries. chilean accents r difficult to grasp love them but idk what the fuck is going on!! spanish from spain is also p insane with the lisp first time i heard it i had no clue what was happening. i would prob have to go really slow talking to a spanish speaking person irl, but i would mostly understand and get the gist i think. if they were patient w me lmfao. GOD jdkaksz i can imagine how crazy the english accents sound to non native speakers. we must sound insane?? idk i cant even conceptualize it.  search up a strong scouse accent if you really want to lose it. i am so sorry i have legit no explanation lmfaoooo other than maybe the US american accent sounds more normal to you bc you were exposed to it more in the media. i’ve had ppl think i’m speaking norwegian with my accent even other english native speakers 😭 sometimes i hear myself speak and im like this is not english is it. we’re just making things up i reckon

hiii i hope im not bothering u !! simply ever since u made fun of argentinans i havent been able to stop thinking about this...(shhhshh...waterfall😭?!) if someone wants to learn spanish which countries spanish would they learn?? i know in my school they taught spain spanish 😶 but we‘re also european so ... is there like a discernible differnece when u start learning or is that more of an advanced learner thing.. sorry u dont have to answer! i just thought u might know 💓💓💓
hiii ur not bothering at all dfkjbsskdkf sorry it took me a bit to get to this ask and also this turned out to be very long dldjdkdk hope u find it interesting and helpful 💖
i think in general there isn't much of a difference between all the spanish-speaking countries like the only one who decided to make things complicated is spain w the vosotros shit.... wait i think in argentina they also say vos instead of tu? so like that's different. here in venezuela in my city some people use vos sometimes too but it's more of a colloquial/informal thing? i don't use it Ever.. most ppl just say tu
but anyway besides that.. .. in spanish the pronounciation rules are much more clear and precise than in english. like all the vowels are ALWAYS pronounced the same way i can't think of a single exception. some consonants have some exceptions sometimes i thiiiink, but it's mostly with words taken from other languages?
i think the differences in pronounciation from country to country in spanish are mostly noticed when it comes to informal settings. when it's more "formal" people play by the general rules of pronounciation and u only notice slight differences in the intonation.
when the setting is more colloquial, the differences in intonation are more pronounced, some countries omit the last letter of the word (like turning vamos to vamo'), or even omit syllables (para -> pa'), some caribbean and caribbean-adjacent countries turn their Rs to Ls (my country is caribbean-adjacent and in some areas ppl do that but actually in my city ppl turn Ls to Rs), argentinians (and i think uruguayans?) have their shh thing (they would pronounce yo lloro like sho shoro when absolutely everyone else pronounces Y and LL like the J in joy), spaniards have their lisp, chilean spanish is the equivalent of scottish english
NOW TO YOUR QUESTION‼️ about which country's spanish is better when you're learning. reiterating what i said when it's more formal, there isn't much of a difference. i think if u look for teachers or educational youtube vids they will speak as neutrally as possible without making it unnatural ofc, so there really isn't that much of a difference. you should check out easy spanish on youtube, their.. hosts? are from different countries (even spain) and they speak very clearly and somewhat neutrally. they also interview ppl on the street and that way u can also hear the more pronounced/colloquial accents
to actually answer your question about countries now cuz i still haven't given you a clear answer:
-colombia is usually said to be the best, and yeah, maybe it is. there are like 20 different colombian accents tho dldjdkdk but overall they speak very clearly
-venezuelan is very close to being perfect in my venezuelan opinion 😌 we do the omitting the last letter thing a lot tho, one time i saw a vid that said we like... do a big exhale thru our mouths when we finish a word/sentence and i can't stop thinking about it cuz yeah....
-i think the way mexicans speak is good to learners too but honestly they sound like a cartoon to me... most children's cartoons are dubbed in mexico so i associate the way they speak with cartoons skxjdjekdn
WHEW anyway that's all hope it helped 💖

BIOGRAPHY !
*** . FIRST . tw : abandonment, alcohol, drugs
angel was born in cordoba - no not in spain, but in argentina ! her parents were two teens that weren’t ready for a child, so what did they do ? they gave her away, and they decided to call her angel because she was born in a church. her relatives found this a good thing, maybe it would give her some kind of spiritual help - and in some way, maybe it did ?
through the years, she was passed between relatives, living in different parts of cordoba, until she got into her pre-teens, hitting different parts of south america. at some point she was living in mexico with her tio - and then returned back to argentina, but in buenos aires to live with her paternal abuelito. it’s funny because she knows her relatives, but she never actually ended up having a relationship with her mom and dad. they just sent money, some clothes, but never bothered to call and text. bouncing between places distracted her, but of course it always felt like something was missing.
living in buenos aires, angel started going by gigi - it was a much less masculine name than her original name, and people have already been calling her angie. gigi just fit the cake !
hennyways, she started a youtube channel, posting dancing videos of herself, that eventually led to vine, that went to youtube ---- that eventually led to tiktok. that’s right, she’s a tiktok-er, and she got really famous for being so, not just in argentina, but all around latin america.
at 21, she joined a latin american tiktok group, where they’d post videos of themselves doing dumb isht - not just that, she started posting cover videos onto YouTube as well, so while she was famous on TikTok, she was earning notice for her vocal ability that she got recognized by sony music latin and w.k. entertainment. she was signed and asked to move to miami, florida. this was a step into the american market !!
now, her lito was COMPLETELY against it. he didn’t want her to be americanized. it sounded ridiculous to him since she barely spoke english, and everything she had was in argentina. except gigi had money in the bank - so what did she do ? have this big fight with her lito, and family. she’s ambitious and she’s gonna go whether anyone said yes or no.
because of this fight - her entire family ended up disowning her. literally, she left her home after the fight, and came back to all her stuff tossed on the street. whenever she tried to go to anyone in her family, they all shut the door on her. there was no turning back, and gigi really ... didn’t have a choice at that point. she knew she was never wanted, but it hurt to know it was a reality from those you made a home with.
from that point on, gigi doesn’t talk about her family.
she did go to miami. the first flight out with whatever she could stuff in a couple bags. gigi lived in miami for about a year, staying in the united states on a work visa - so yeah, she’s not a citizen. during her time in miami, she learned a bit more english - though her accent is still very much present and a lot of things are very surprising to her in comparison to back home.
so far she has released one song with ana mena and nio garcia called el chisme. gigi still works hard on all her social media accounts while working in the studio, and constantly networking with those in the same industry as herself - even outside of it !
she moved to LA just before she turned 22, deciding she wanted to know a different place. staying in a place for too long was never her thing, but her manager thinks it’s a good idea anyway.
PERSONALITY / WHO SHE IS !
what you’ll notice when first meeting gigi is that she always smiles - she has this thing about her where even if her life really does suck - some parts of it - she tries her ABSOLUTE best to be positive, and just giving off positive vibes. i mean of course if you piss her off, different story.
if you annoy her, she’s passive aggressive - not even that, she’ll just straight up tell you you’re being annoying or something. it’d take a lot for her not to like someone - actually i lied, if you give off a bad vibe, she’d give you a look, pretend to be nice and walk away DKFJHGJDKFGH
sarcastic brat. nuff said.
gigi isn’t really aware of her “fame” which is so funny. she’ll be out, and if there are people taking photos of her, she’d be very confused, telling them something like “guys im not famous, stop.” even tho ?? sis u r thriving what do u mean ????
she gets brain farts a lot - mainly because she thinks in spanish, and has to speak in english. catch her speaking in spanish randomly forgetting the other doesn’t understand. it’s just in her personality to forget sometimes, especially if she gets super excited.
clumsy ass bitch. NUFF SAID x 100. she is the type to be talking to someone, and then find herself crashing into a door, or almost walking into a busy street.
she’s your go to if you want spontaneous fun - not just partying, but even just to hang out. you’re bored ? gigi will take you to a painting class.
she’s clumsy, not stupid ! which a lot of ppl will confuse. especially in clubs, where people will try to take advantage of her, and gi will play dumb up until she’s the one playing the game on them. a devil in an angel’s costume to pit it plainly.
she has issues, like many people ! especially because of her family. it’s a sore spot, and the only way to really forget is when she’s out in the club at night - and well, you know, all the bad things come out to play during those times. she looks to alcohol and drugs to keep her sane sometimes, even when it shouldn’t. it’s not something she talks about either, and prefers it to stay as hidden as possible due to her image being the sweet girl kinda type.
i really hate that she falls in love 14987348957439 times a day. its cos she tries to see the best in people, and then gets hurt and DKFGHJFDKJGHDF GIRL NO, UR BETTER THAN THIS. it gets her into a lot of drama, i want to push her into a door.
her happy place is by the beach when it’s quiet with a bonfire and maybe strumming an acoustic guitar. that’s where she’d go to get away from everything.
she’s never seen snow, and doesn’t know if she’d like it. so that’s something.
gigi has a fear of seagulls. they’re demons with wings. prove her wrong. i dare you.
she doesn’t like being called by her real name - not even angie. only close friends call her angie since it’s more personal. her brand is gigi, therefore prefers to be called that.
if you call her anything besides that, she may actually just punch you - doesn’t matter if she’s small !!
THAT’S ALL FOR NOW FOLKS !
i’d add a connections part, but im a hoe for everything you got. let’s brainstorm together !

Language in Argentina
Although Argentina’s official language is Spanish, Argentinian Spanish is different from the Spanish spoken in Spain.
that’s true, ours is better ;)))
In some ways it sounds more like Italian than Spanish.
porteños and ppl from cuyo and maybe patagonia have a similar accent to that of italians due to the great number of italian immigrants in late 19th early 20th century, however, we speak only spanish. there might be very few cocoliche expressions. (Lunfardo, mentioned there is… not at all like italian)
There are also many other languages spoken in Argentina, including Italian, German, English and French.
especially english, but everyone’s first language is spanish. portuguese is quite common, too!
Indigenous languages that are spoken today include Tehuelche, Guarani and Quechua.
also toba qom and mapundungún/araucano!!
Argentinean Society & Culture
Europeans or Latin Americans?
latines.
Most Argentines are primarily of European descent, which separates them from other Latin American countries where European and Indian cultures are more mixed.
lie.
Culturally and emotionally, Argentines often seem more European than Latin American.
how in the fuck are you emotionally european!? what does that even mean? “oh im feeling quite european today, i’m gonna kill my neighbours and steal their houses”.
Argentinean Family Values
oh boy
The family is the centre of Argentine life with extended families still having prominence.
The heads of powerful families command widespread respect, but with this comes a responsibility to care for others in terms of security, jobs, etc and to maintain personal and family honour.
no, you’re thinking of the film the godfather.
Honour is in all respects the be all and end all and it routinely affects day-to-day life at home, in the community and in business.
LAHFSKJADSHF we’re fucking snakes.
Religion in Argentina
The Argentine constitution guarantees religious freedom.
Roman Catholicism acts as the official state religion.
Other world religions, notably Islam, are gaining a foothold within the country during the last ten to fifteen years.
judaism, too
Expressive Communication Style
Argentines are on the whole open, blunt, and direct, yet are able to remain tactful and diplomatic.
Argentines are a warm peoples and their unreservedness brings to the fore their passion and sentimentality.
In addition they are close communicators physically so will often touch each other when speaking and maintain little physical distance between speakers.
those are actually accurate!
General Etiquette and Customs
Meeting Etiquette
Initial greetings are formal and follow a set protocol of greeting the eldest or most important person first.
no, you greet the person closest to you first, and go in that order. closest to farthest
A standard handshake, with direct eye contact and a welcoming smile will suffice.
Maintaining eye contact indicates interest.
In general, Argentines prefer third-party introductions, so you should wait for your host or hostess to introduce you to others at a small gathering.
if you expect me to just talk to someone idek then... you’ll be fucking dissapointed. this one’s true.
When leaving, say good-bye to each person individually.
yes, and be ready to get a kiss on the cheek, from men and women
Gift Giving Etiquette
If invited to dinner at an Argentine's home bring a small gift for the hostess.
or host??? give something regardless of gender??? also you don’t give just anything, it’s usually a bottle of wine, or something for dessert, etc. something that can be shared during that dinner.
Since taxes on imported spirits are extremely high, a bottle of imported spirits is always well received.
not... necessarily lmao you don’t have to be a pretentious fuck
Do not give knives or scissors as they indicate a desire to sever the relationship.
corto mano corto fierro y que te vayas al infierno. nah, idk who’d think to give knives or scissors but. i dont think this is true lmao, if you’re weird and want to give someone scissors then do it.
Gifts are opened immediately.
yes!!!!!!! gifts are fun and they must be opened ASAP.
Dining Etiquette
If you are invited to an Argentine home:
Dress well. Men should wear a jacket and tie. Women should wear a dress or a skirt and blouse.
WOMEN SHOULD WEAR WHATEVER THE FUCK THEY WANT. IF THEY LIKE PANTS THEY WEAR PANTS. THIS IS NOT THE 50s.
Arrive 30 to 45 minutes later than invited for a dinner party. Arriving on time is not the norm.
arriving on time is fucking rude. not even the host will be ready on time lol.
Telephone your hosts the following day to thank them.
dude. no. that’s weird. just send them an email or text if you really have to, or thank them before leaving the house lmao.
Watch your Table Manners!
please, for the love of GOD, watch your table manners.
Wait for the host or hostess to tell you where to sit. There may be a seating plan.
if it’s your first time at that house, you sit last in the unoccupied sits. simple as that.
Table manners are Continental - hold the fork in the left hand and the knife in the right while eating.
yes... i mean.... doesn’t everyone who uses forks and knives do it like that?
Do not begin eating until the hostess invites you to do so.
no, do not begin eating until the HOST OR HOSTESS sits down and starts eating.
also, this was so written by a middle aged man.
Always keep your hands visible when eating, but do not rest your elbows on the table.
also your elbows are not wings. keep them close to your body.
Wait for a toast to be made before taking the first sip of your drink.
that’s annoying but yes. either wait for the toast, or until you’ve started eating.
It is considered polite to leave a small amount of food on your plate when you have finished eating.
no. as a matter of fact, that’s considered rude. you eat everything on your plate unless you have like an allergy or a health problem that means that you can’t eat something. “wah i don’t like veggies!!” suck it up and eat  your salad, you’re not five.
When you have finished eating, place your knife and fork across your plate with the prongs facing down and the handles facing to the right.
uhh it should look like this:
Tumblr media
Pouring wine is beset with many rituals and cultural taboos. If at all possible, avoid pouring wine.
yeah. the most common ones are: 1) the host is served a small ammount first, and tastes it to see . whatever people like about wine idk i dont drink it. 2) if they approve, wine is served from “most important” to “least important” person. 3) you wait for the mf toast before drinking. there are also many “taboos” but i never pay attention to those so idk them lmao.
Business Etiquette, Customs and Protocol in Argentina
Relationships & Communication
Argentina is a relationship-driven culture, so it is important to build networks and use them.
Argentines maintain and use an intricate network of family and friends to call upon for help, favours or assistance.
again, you’re thinking of the godfather. we call friends for help or assistance, but we don’t trade fucking favours, we’re not the mafia.
If a favour is done for you, you will eventually be called upon to re-pay it.
NO!!!!! people will expect from you the same they have given you LIKE IN ANY TYPE OF RELATIONSHIP!! if you trusted me enough to ask for my help, that means i can trust you to ask for yours!!!
Name-dropping and nepotism do not have the negative connotations as it has in the West and can be used to your advantage.
yes it does??? i mean nepotism is quite common esp in public positions but like. everyone hates it and like.. if your dad’s the boss and  you get hired despite being underqualified EVERYONE will openly hate you.
Above all Argentines like to do business with people they know and trust.
uh doesn’t everyone? but yes.
They prefer face-to-face meetings rather than by telephone or in writing, which are seen as impersonal.
Once a relationship has developed, their loyalty will be to you rather than to the company you represent.
i mean, yes. i know you, i have worked with you, i know what to expect of you. your company is not a person, you can only be loyal to people
Looking good in the eyes of others is important to Argentines. Therefore, they will judge you not only on what you say, but also on the way you present yourself.
a thousand times this, especially for business
Avoid confrontation. Argentines do not like publicly admitting they are incorrect.
i dont like the implication that we’d be on the wrong???? also nobody likes to be called out in public???
It is imperative to show deference and respect to those in positions of authority. When dealing with people at the same level, communication can be more informal.
Ye
Be alert for nuances and hidden meanings. It is a good idea to repeat details, as you understand them to confirm that you and your business colleagues are in agreement.
Yes
Business Meeting Etiquette
Appointments are necessary and should be made 1 to 2 weeks in advance, preferably by e-mail or telephone.
Mail is better
Avoid January and February, which are their vacation times; the middle weeks of July, which is when many go skiing; and during the two weeks before and after Christmas.
Awanta gato
You should arrive on time for meetings, although the person you are meeting may not be punctual.
Yes haha
In some older, more bureaucratic organizations, the more important the person you are meeting, the longer they keep you waiting.
Bitches
Do not immediately begin discussing business. Small talk helps establish a rapport.
The person you are meeting with may accept telephone calls and attend to other business while you are there.
No????? Unless they are v rude?!!!!
Have all printed material available in both English and Spanish.
Dude my boss' boss took literal chinese classes to be able to Talk w a chinese client. We're not troglodytes. Also we have google translate.
Decisions are not reached at meetings. Meetings are for discussion and to exchange ideas.
Yep. Decisions are very burocratic ,sigh.
Business Negotiations
Argentines expect to deal with people of similar status.
Yeah like would u send an intern to deal w a ceo lol
Hierarchy is important. Decisions are made at the top of the company. Business moves slowly because it is extremely bureaucratic. Decisions often require several layers of approval.
Ya
Argentines have a difficult time disagreeing, so do not think that things are going well simply because no one is challenging what you say.
Its considered rude to contradict ppl u dont know lol
What to Wear?
Business attire is formal and conservative, yet stylish.
Men should wear dark coloured, conservative business suits.
Women should wear elegant business suits or dresses.
Good quality accessories are important for both sexes.
Dress well if you want to make a good impression.
WASH UR HAIR!!!!
Business Card Etiquette
Business cards are given without formal ritual.
Have one side of your business card translated into Spanish.
Present your business card so the Spanish side faces the recipient.
We're not stupid lol we can turn them around ~mod ara
